The National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth, England is a modern art deco-style attraction that opened in 1998. It's the UK's largest aquarium and part of the Ocean Conservation Trust, focusing on research and conservation. The aquarium features a variety of marine life from Devon to the tropics, including fish, sharks, turtles, and jellyfish. Visitors can enjoy feeding sessions, an underwater tunnel experience, and a cafe with panoramic harbor views.
The most fantastic Aquarium I have ever been to which includes the largest fish tank in the UK. It even has a small sunken bi-plane within the tank, (which tells you how large we are talking here) The sharks, and massive sea turtle (called Friday) were incredible. I have not been to another aquarium in the UK that includes sharks! Staff have an incredible amount of knowledge about the animals in the aquarium all the way down to their behaviours and how each of them interact with the divers that feed them. At various points you get to see the divers go into the water. This is by far the largest and most impressive aquarium I have seen, if you are into your marine animals this opportunity is certainly not to be missed! Definitely check this place out if you are ever visiting Plymouth!

We visited this place with our 5 year old son and were a bit disappointed that extra attractions, like soft play, were unavailable. We enjoyed the big aquarium and watching the team of reaserchers at the lab. If you have an autistic child like we do I'll advice you to be there first in the morning as it becomes busy later on. The tickets can be used for the whole day which is fantastic as we didn't have a chance to see everything in our first round. Our son just runs like a Flash😆 Lovely, friendly staff. X

A great place to visit for young and old. You can spend a few hours just wandering around at your own pace looking at the vast array of fish, turtles and sharks. My children loved this place. This is my second time here and would definitely return for a third time.
A K — Google review
Lots of information and big fish. We took about an hour to go around, we did not read the information boards which could easily add another hour. There are a couple of places to sit and watch which is a pleasant way to spend some time. They offer a year's entry for the price of a day; £26 per adult, which is quite pricey if you only visit once. However visit again within the year and it becomes fantastic value!
Jason H — Google review
I have read the reviews before I went to this aquarium so I knew what to expect. To be honest, the staff are quite friendly and helpful, and I wish I could give it a higher point, but the fish tanks are too small, and the so-called biggest fish tank could have come with a bit more fish or more impressive fish. I think perhaps because the major visitors of this aquarium are kids and their families these days, they stick too many stickers with words and scientific facts on the wall, yet put too few fish to see. The best room is the room with the lecture, the curvy glass helps us to see the animals more clearly. The lecturer was very enthusiastic when she talked about sharks, rays, and the green turtle. I do not mind that they make the Aquarium more educational, but I hope they prioritize the fish rather than people. Whether bigger or smaller fish, they need more space to swim. For the size and the reputation of this museum, they could have done better.
Etheria H — Google review
So much too see. There was 2 school parties here when I went and they looked intrigued by the big tank while they were at a talk. I loved it,my daughter in law showed us the way luckily else I'd have been going in circles. Didn't see any seahorses which were there last time and the sharks were not that big but my fave were the mantas and stingrays. There were some really big starfish,a turtle and lots of strange looking fish and anemones. Got a years pass on buying entry tickets so will be returning soon.
Sar P — Google review
Excellent. You get to see so much. You can even go round again and again. The cafe has very limited seating, food looked good but seemed overpriced. Toilets are located throughout. Easy to get round with pushchair, lift however is very small. The view you get of the animals is amazing.
Clare R — Google review
Visited recently and this place truly blew me away. As the UK’s largest aquarium, it effortlessly lives up to the hype with its four themed zones: Plymouth Sound, Eddystone Reef, Atlantic Ocean, and Blue Planet; all packed with vibrant marine life and fascinating exhibits. The Atlantic Ocean exhibit is mind-blowing, housing a colossal 2.5-million-liter tank filled with sharks, rays, and tropical fish, viewed through thick acrylic walls that make you feel submerged. The Ocean Drifters jellyfish display in the Atlantic zone is also stunning; perfect for taking a moment to marvel. Kids (and grown-ups) will love the interactive corners; rock pool touch tanks, storytelling sessions, behind-the-scenes tours, and crafts that bring education to life with fun. I especially appreciated the thoughtful accessibility touches like lowered viewing panels, stools for young visitors, and staff who are knowledgeable and welcoming. Extra perks: a café with harbour views, a lovely on-site gift shop, and seamless entry options (standard and fast-track). Plus, if you nudge the ticket cost with gift aid, you could score a year’s free return visits which is definitely great value for money.

Royal William Yard is a historic site in Devon and Cornwall, featuring imposing Royal Navy buildings from the early 1800s. Once a naval victualling yard, it now houses restaurants, shops, and apartments with stunning sea views. The Grade-listed buildings date back to 1828 and are said to have been built by former prisoners from the Napoleonic wars. The area offers easy access to beaches and attractions like Plymouth Hoe and the Barbican.
I did not know about this place until April 2025. Very nicely set out historic buildings by the sea. Lots of food and drink options and good walking around and about.

Great place to go for a walk around, coffee, beer or food. Stayed at the bistro Pierre and went across on the ferry to edgcumbe . Nice spot for micro brewery beer, interesting history to the yard. It was originally built in the early 19th century for the Navy
Tim P — Google review
A stunningly restored Victorian victualling yard. The buildings are impressive in their size. It gives an insight to the size and enormity of the RN in the age of sail and what it took to keep it supplied. The restaurants a top class, our favourite being the food and service at Wagamamas.
Andrew M — Google review
Royal William Yard is undeniably a splendid waterfront destination—rich in history, teeming with culture, and architecturally captivating. It shines as a day-visitor or leisure hotspot, offering a memorable mix of relaxation, gastronomy, shopping, and artistic flair. However, if you're considering living there, tread carefully. The high cost, logistical challenges, and lifestyle trade-offs mean you might enjoy it more from the outside than as a daily home.
Gurpreet S — Google review
Arrived on a Sat afternoon. A few restaurants / bars are opened. But generally the place is very quiet. Very few shops. Nothing much to do if you are not there for a drink.
D A — Google review
A Must-Visit in Plymouth – Royal William Yard We spent the day at Royal William Yard and it honestly exceeded expectations. It’s one of those rare places that blends history, scenery, food, and accessibility so perfectly that there’s something for everyone – whether you’re here with kids, friends, or older family members. History & Atmosphere The Yard is steeped in history — originally built in the 1820s–30s to supply the Royal Navy. Today, the beautiful Grade I listed stone buildings have been restored and given new life as restaurants, cafés, shops, and even a cinema. You really feel the history as you walk around — but it’s alive and buzzing, not just a museum piece. Things to Do There’s so much on offer: • Restaurants & Cafés – from Bistrot Pierre to Hook & Line, Wagamama, Seco Lounge and more. Coffee stops, wine bars, even a brewery — it’s food heaven. • Everyman Cinema – luxury cinema with sofas and food served to your seat. • Walks & Views – stunning coastal walks, sea views across to Cornwall and Mount Edgcumbe, and lovely lawns for picnics. • Activities – paddle boarding, sea swimming, yoga on the lawn, and a marina for boating. • Events & Markets – from food festivals to art shows and outdoor cinema nights, there’s always something happening. Accessibility We visited with my mother-in-law who is wheelchair-bound and were so impressed at how friendly and accommodating the Yard is. Parking is good, routes are mostly level, and staff in the restaurants and cafés couldn’t have been more helpful. Yes, some areas are cobbled or uneven (part of the history!), but overall it’s one of the most accessible historic sites I’ve been to. For Families & Adults Alike Kids will love the open spaces, the boats in the marina, and the chance to explore the history trail. Adults can relax with great food, drinks, and those unbeatable sea views. Whether you’re here for a lively evening or a peaceful daytime stroll, it’s got the right balance. The Highlight For me, it was simply sitting with a coffee, watching the sea and taking in the view across to Cornwall. The combination of majestic architecture, open water, and welcoming atmosphere makes Royal William Yard unforgettable. ✅ Summary: If you’re visiting Plymouth, don’t miss Royal William Yard. It’s more than just a spot to eat – it’s a full experience of history, leisure, and beauty by the sea. We’ll definitely be back.

Recent trip to Plymouth we stumbled across this place and so glad we did, we had an amazing afternoon into evening spent here. The amazingly restored buildings and architecture is well worth a visit just to walk around with a coffee but we booked into the Le Vignoble for a jazz and wine afternoon, then we went to the fabulous Movie theatre (Everyman) and what a place well worth it for the novelty purposes! Then we had dinner at Pierre restaurant which was lovely then to finish the evening off one last little stroll around to take the area in

Heritage building
The Royal Citadel is a 17th-century fortress with a baroque gateway, garrison church, and historic weaponry. It served as a defense against the Dutch and continues to operate as a military base. Visitors can explore its history and architecture while being mindful of strict entrance regulations due to its active military status. The citadel's strategic location offers spectacular views of Plymouth Sound, making it an ideal spot for a picnic after immersing in historical tours.
Quite an impressive building, I only walked around the perimeter as this is a working base, but I think it is a English Heritage property and you can book to tour it.
Amy F — Google review
Access is closed for bookings knly and closed for winter. Also English heritage membership card is useless here because u have to pay extra to book. Here is some background: The Royal Citadel in Plymouth was built in the 17th century to defend the city against potential naval attacks. Commissioned by Charles II, it played a key role in military defense during various conflicts, including the English Civil War and World War II. The citadel’s robust design features impressive ramparts, bastions, and views over Plymouth Sound.
Anthony C — Google review
Reputed to be the longest continually 'manned' military base in Great Britain, originally built around the time of the English Civil War, there is a date stone (1660) in the lower wall on the West Sally Port. They still do guided walks only see website for up to date information. Outside the main North entrance you can find a Fairbairn-Sykes Commando Fighting Knife memorial.

I had the honour to be a guest of a meeting function inside the citadel. It feels really good being indoors. Food and service were really good.

Nice place, pretty and scenic however, the Military personal inside didn't take kindly to me taking an afternoon jog across the main plaza, found myself in the ER with 3 bullet holes to the chest very fast. Overall, nice bed and breakfast.

Plymouth Gin Distillery, situated in the historic Barbican area, is the oldest working gin distillery in England. The building itself dates back to the early 1400s and features a medieval hall known as the Refectory, which boasts a remarkable hull-shaped timber roof from 1431. Visitors can partake in pre-booked tours that provide insight into the craft of producing Plymouth Gin and indulge in tutored tastings of their renowned range.
FANTASTIC!! Every single second. Pippa our guide was the most amazing woman and made the experience second to none. We booked on to the masters upgraded tour and it was honestly the most enjoyable afternoon I can recall. I would highly recommend paying the extra for the experience we received. Thank you to Pippa for hosting us. You are a gem to the company

An absolute must-do! Really enjoyed the distilling tour and tasting experience, Kirsty was an excellent guide and kept us entertained and engaged throughout. I will never view or taste gin in the same way, very enjoyable and excellent value for money. Highly recommend!
Alichia Z — Google review
Another distillery visited. I got my pin badge and a navy strength bottle of gin to go in my bar. Thank you very much. Some great details on the building. Lots of history. Amazingly strong cocktails. Hubby loved the whisky he had in the bar, he wishes he'd of taken the name. If we ever visit Plymough again, we will definitely drop in.
Carey C — Google review
I went on an upgraded masters tour with five friends and family yesterday and it was just exceptional. It's such a fun experience. Our guide Karly was so knowledgeable and engaging. We had a wonderful tour, learnt about the history of gin, had a gin tasting, made our own gin with an amazing array of botanicals to choose from and had two cocktails in the beautiful upstairs bar, which is also steeped in history. A magical day I would highly recommend. What a treat!
Laura H — Google review
Had a fantastic time, lived in Plymouth for a while and was the first time we went on the tour. Kirsty was a brilliant tour guide and made the whole experience memorable. Highly recommended taking the time to visit, you will not be disappointed.
Jase L — Google review
I’d give this a miss. I’ve done a fair few distillery tours and this was by far the worst one I’ve ever been too. It’s relatively informative but the tour guide we had was rough. She basically yelled at us the entire time like she was leading an outdoor river cruise with no microphone. There were “jokes” in the script and it felt almost like she was trained to do a high energy tour, but has been imprisoned here for decades and it has drained all life and energy out of her. So now, she regurgitates the words but emotionless. Like an animatronic animal from an 80s theme park. The tour finished in about 40 minutes. The bar is fit out beautifully and the bartender was lovely. The gift shop was underwhelming and was manned by two ladies in the middle of a d&m and were all consumed. I get that these tours are feeders to buy more stuff (booze, bric-à-brac, etc) but whoever is in charge needs to revamp this entire process.
Some G — Google review
We had some time in Plymouth, so wanted to do the Distillery Tour, which was really good, an hour with the very entertaining Kirsty, talking us thru the history of Plymouth Gin and the Distillery, very educational learning about the botanicals, then finished off with a refreshing G&T in the bar, well worth the £15
Neil S — Google review
We went on the Upgraded Gin Tour, explaining the history of the building, the distillery and gin in general. Our guid was Karly, who was knowledgeable and enthusiastic throughout. We saw aspects and elements of the process and got to try making our own micro batches of gin, using some of their fantastic supply of botanical. On top of the different samples we tried on the tour there were drinks at the Refectory Bar afterwards. A brilliant day from start to finish!

The Mayflower Steps Memorial, located in the Barbican area of Plymouth, is a significant historical site where the Pilgrims are believed to have departed England aboard the Mayflower in 1620. Although the original steps no longer exist, a granite block and commemorative portico with a Doric column mark this pivotal moment in history. The memorial is adorned with British and American flags, symbolizing the departure of 102 passengers on their journey to North America.
Yep, they are steps. Enshrined with a literal and figurative doorway. You can’t go down the steps, but they’re there. It’s pretty much a guarantee the mayflower did not leave from here. But it’s a nice photo
Some G — Google review
As a family historian, with many ancestors who emigrated from England to the USA, I found this memorial interesting and nearby there is a list of passengers who sailed on the Mayflower. I have watched Genealogy programmes where descendants have been traced of those who set sail from near this point and it would be fun to find my own family connection. This will be of interest to those interested in the Mayflower story and there is a museum nearby. Free to visit.
Elizabeth B — Google review
Could not visit Plymouth without taking a look at this memorial, which stands in front of a viewing platform near to the place from where, on 16th September 1620, the Mayflower set sail with 102 Pilgrims on board, families hoping to find a better life and religious freedom in the New World. A bronze artwork tells the story of their experiences on this perilous voyage into the unknown, through illustrations, historical information, and personal accounts. The steps leading down into the water are relatively modern (the original ones no longer exist). There's a museum about the Pilgrims and the Mayflower close by. I did not get time to visit it, but there's a tourist information centre on the ground floor where I found helpful staff, and was given a free map of Plymouth. Well worth coming here to learn about this significant event in British and US history.
Valerie H — Google review
This is a great memorial to the Pilgrim's voyage but not the place where they actually stepped aboard the Mayflower. This part of the harbor was not there in 1620, the actual steps are across the Barbican road on Castle Street. There’s a black plaque on the side of the Pilgrim's Ice Cream shop. pilgrims who set sail. That was where the edge of the harbour was back then.
Kevin G — Google review
Extremely historical! I wish both countries would clean and maintain it better. Both flags should be replaced, as well as lighting and pavers.
V N — Google review
Bit let down by this place it's such a big part of nautical history but I didn't feel there was enough attention brought to it,maybe because the weather wasn't with us that day so the crowds weren't there but the Arch looks good after the renovation and the plaques set up around the walls give a good insight into the history, the battery is also really close by so hopefully it will get more American tourists because it's a very important part of American history
James ( — Google review
Found this memorial during a walk around Plymouth Harbour. It's amazing to think the Pilgrims were brave enough to leave for a new, unknown world from this very spot.

Smeaton's Tower is a landmark lighthouse on Plymouth Hoe that offers amazing views of Plymouth Sound and the city. The 93 steps up to the lantern chamber offer an adrenaline rush for some, while others may enjoy just watching people and enjoying the sunshine on Plymouth Hoe. A must-see tourist attraction in Devon!
Have walked past thousands of times but not been in since a child. It was 10 am and they had just opened, £5 admission and I had the whole tower to myself. The climb is not too bad, two low doorways to duck under and four sets of ladders. The views from the top are spectacular and a nice place to catch your breath in the breeze and take in the views. Staff were friendly and helpful. Well worth a visit if not been before 👍

Smeaton’s Tower, Plymouth – A Must-Visit Historic Gem! As a Google Local Guide and an explorer of hidden gems, I highly recommend visiting Smeaton’s Tower if you're in Plymouth. This iconic red-and-white lighthouse offers not only a fascinating dive into maritime history but also one of the best panoramic views of Plymouth Hoe and the coastline. Climbing to the top is a bit of a workout, especially through the narrow spiral staircase, but it's absolutely worth it. Each level has well-preserved displays showing how the lighthouse keepers lived and worked — a real glimpse into the past. The top viewing platform is the highlight: the fresh sea breeze, stunning vistas of the English Channel, and the sense of history make it an unforgettable experience. Staff were friendly and informative, adding to the overall visit. Pro tips: Wear comfortable shoes, and don’t forget your camera! Whether you're a history buff, architecture lover, or just in for the views, Smeaton’s Tower is a Plymouth treasure you shouldn't miss.

This is a nice opportunity to see what it is like inside a lighthouse. This decommissioned lighthouse still has artefacts inside showing its history. It has low ceilings and narrow stairs but you get great views from the top.

The Box is a newly opened cultural hub in Plymouth, offering a diverse range of exhibits and activities throughout the year. The multi-million pound museum and arts center features fine art, cultural artifacts, and multimedia exhibitions. Its flagship exhibition, Mayflower 400: Legend and Legacy, showcases new artifacts from around the world related to the Mayflower journey.
I discovered this place when putting in a Google search of things to do in the area on a rainy day! It was indeed a very wet day so we headed over to The Box and as I love a museum with local history, I was looking forward to the visit. Very good natural history display and excellent video showing the history and development of Plymouth through the ages. Plymouth's place as a major world port was the subject of another of the rooms. There is a cafe and shop, and this is free to visit. Highly recommended and very child friendly.

Featuring galleries dedicated to art, history and natural sciences, one can spend quite an enjoyable day taking in all the exhibits and contents of this museum. If feeling peckish, the restaurant in the entrance lobby is not only roomy but also serves good food. Don't forget to pop into the building across from the entrance as it is part of the museum and also features exhibits.

This was a brilliant museum to visit, showcasing the history of Plymouth and its surrounding areas throughout centuries! The exhibits about ships are really interesting with displays of different ones that sailed from the city, particularly the one heading to the North Pole. Information is also shown about how people followed their career paths from Plymouth and model of the city's planning is well-crafted, creative imagery of outdoor areas is admirable itself too! Various cameras and their usage in theatres are delved into, television promotional aspects are revealed also. Artwork section is very creative with the likes of a pram holding up a twig with leaves, multi-headed women and a tree with unique branches off of it!

The Box is a great immersive/interactive museum which provides all ages a great way to experience history from in and around Plymouth and surrounding areas. It’s a real eye opening experience which provides different rooms full of unique information. I’d strongly recommend this to University students or people who are passionate about history. Although families or younger adults may also enjoy certain sections of the museum and of course the gift shop! There is also a small cafe downstairs which provides a variety of drinks and snacks if you plan a longer visit!

So much to see and do. Took my 9yr old Granddaughter and we both loved it. Cafe was reasonably priced and good food too.

In this eautiful building from 1910 you can find an interesting " for all the family" exhibitions about Plymouth's history and prehistoric history, a small nature museum style exhibition which is very interesting and a modern art one too. Free admission, nice cafe, pleasent staff , absolutely perfect. Highly recommend visit.

Modern museum, presenting the history of Devon in an interactive layout. The buildings themselves add to the experience and have been well integrated to suit the different display spaces. Easy to spend a whole looking at the exhibits and talking to the friendly and knowledgeable staff.

Tinside Lido is a remarkable outdoor saltwater swimming pool situated along Plymouth Hoe, boasting an iconic 1930s Art Deco design. This beloved attraction offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy a refreshing swim while taking in breathtaking views of the sea. Whether you're a serious swimmer or simply looking for a unique spot to relax and bask in the sun, Tinside Lido combines architectural splendor with seaside leisure.
On a hot sunny day, this has to be one of the best days out! Affordable tickets for Plymouth residents and only £2 to hire a sun lounger for whole visit. Lifeguards were attentive and staff were friendly. The pool is great, it isn't heated but is refreshing once you get used to it. Would 100% recommend and re-visit :)

It's a beautiful pool, but 60° outside and the water is not heated, means everyone needs to wear a wetsuit and that's no fun. The other thing I didn't like is that they charge to enter the pool. It was paid for by citizens and should be free to the public. It's not fair to the poor. Add insult to injury, everything has a cost: chaise, wetsuit, toys, etc. I felt bad for the families who didn't have enough money to swim in this hoity-toity pool seemingly restored only for those from the hoity toighty neighborhood. I felt so bad that I was seriously looking to see where I could donate some money for the less fortunate. They should also be able to enjoy this fantastic pool, but I doubted that they would actually get it. This is a very rich town. They can afford open it up to everyone.

First visit, took grandkids while staying with us in Devon. Staff friendly and helpful, place was clean and tidy, change rooms good, toilets good, cafe good, chairs and sunbeds cheap to hire. Pool was amazing, clean and in good condition. Good life guard cover. Had a great swim with views over the Sound. Well worth a visit.

Spent a lovely few hours here in the sunshine. Nice to see a pool kept so clean. Good size changing rooms and facilities. Plenty of room for sunbathing and swimming, great selection of pool floats for kids. Lifeguards were on the ball and watching everything and rotated every 20 minutes or so.

I loved visiting this Lido, water cold and choppy as the weather was varied, but great once you were submerged. And the hot shower afterwards got the blood circulation up to 11. Well recommended.

Crownhill Fort, located in the heart of Crownhill, is a well-preserved Victorian defense that offers a unique setting for various events. Managed by the Landmark Trust, it is open to the public on specific days and hosts special events like Firepower Day where visitors can witness historic artillery guns in action. This fort is part of Lord Palmerston's Ring of Fire and is known for its underground tunnels, cannon tunnels, massive dry moat, and ramparts.
We stayed for a week through The Landmark Trust. What an amazing experience and week we all had. Excellently equipped. Fantastic surroundings. Being able to call a fort home and be able to explore for a week. Wow. Was a week that memories were made.

Closed to the public when I visited unfortunately. Looked really intriguing and would’ve liked seeing inside but apparently the residents have closed it until March 2024. There was a footpath around the outside but it was quite treacherous - slippery after rain and occasionally going right up to the edge of the moat(?) around the fort which is at least a 15 foot drop. There is a fence around the fort but no guardrail by the moat(?).

A truelly amazing experience. A great example of a Victorian fort. Amazing tunnels to explore with history to take you back to a bygone Era. We stayed for 3 nights and had the entire place to ourselves. Go to the landmark trust website for more info.

This early Victorian Fort, operated by the Landmark Trust, is well worth making an effort to visit. They have open days throughout the year, but it is not open on a daily basis. They have live firing of cannons and rifles (all using blanks of course). There are tunnels and rooms aplenty, and two barrack rooms are presented in the 1890's and 1940's style. There are toilets but no catering facilities as such. They even have volunteers who dress up in Victorian clothing. UPDATE: Since posting this, CF now have catering. These are usually outside suppliers who operate from purpose built vans.

The former home of the Earls of Mount Edgcumbe, it is surrounded by Grade Cornish Gardens within an expansive 865-acre country park. Visitors can explore five different walks, each offering unique views and attractions.
Lovely walks and amazing veiws of Plymouth sound. Nice place to spend the day taking in the sites and history. We only walked around the gardens and popped into the cafe for a spot of lunch, but still worth it for the gardens.

What a Beautiful Place idyllic for a Picnic .. A Walk and bonus find Cycle Path 2 signposted though it (gravel bikes) Scenic and tranquil .. will be going back as it's overlooking Plymouth which is set out for Armed Forces Day .. It's easy to get to off Cremyll Ferry (2.50pp) lovely pub nearby the Edgcumbe Arms serving All Day Carvery. The house isn't or wasn't open to visitors (Lady Edgcumbe not in residence) but there is a little café set behind it. A must on a lovely day to admire the gardens and view points 👌

You have to ring to book a guided tour if you want to go inside the house. Tour guide gives an excellent talk in the downstairs rooms (takes about an hour so young children maybe bored) then you're allowed to wander on your own upstairs. You can take photos but no flash. Lovely side garden to the house and garden walks a little further out. Beautiful views over the River and you can walk down the steep hill to the waterside where you'll find beautiful formal gardens and cafe at the Orangery, views across the river over the sound where you can follow to the ferry or the other way along to the little stony beaches. There is a 2nd cafe at top of the hill near the house. Also toilets at both locations too.

Drake's Island in Plymouth has been off-limits to the public for a long time, but now you can take a boat across Plymouth Sound and explore the island. There are family activity days with various activities like airsoft, abseiling, and survival camps. The tour guides are knowledgeable and engaging, providing insights into the island's history. It's a great place for history enthusiasts and offers a mix of natural beauty and built history.
The tour guide/custodian we had was very insightful and engaging and more than happy to answer any questions. If you're at all interested in history (not just Plymouth's) this is well worth the trip. We had gale force winds so strong we could barely walk and it was still one of the best days of our trip here. Children will love it (especially the dark tunnels and the cannons) and the few dogs on our tour were thoroughly enjoying exploring. This may be tricky for those with limited mobility as it's a decent walk and very uneven but long term plans for the island sound like it will be much improved as time goes on. We will definitely be heading back over if we're ever back in Plymouth to see the next part of this island's history. In short though Views: 10/10 Staff: 10/10. There are toilets on the island but these are the only facilities I recommend bringing a snack and a drink with you or even better a cup of tea. The boat ride over is relatively short but pleasant and takes you past a lot of the landmarks.

The Mayflower Museum in Plymouth, Devon, England is a captivating tribute to the historic voyage of the Mayflower in 1620. The museum offers an immersive exploration of the ship's journey and its impact on history, including the Pilgrims' story and their enduring legacy. Located in the picturesque Barbican area of Plymouth, it is easily accessible by public transport or car.
As we are interested in the cultures of the UK and USA, this museum was on our list. We were not disappointed. A compact overview of the emigration/settlement of the east coast of the USA. Very nice exhibits and picture/multimedia information. Pleasant price/performance ratio. Friendly staff who were always available to answer our questions. Thanks and best wishes again. Well-stocked range of souvenirs, including about Plymouth and Devon. Visiting with dogs in a dog buggy was possible without any problems. Criticism: Unfortunately no public toilet available, but this is due to the structural conditions of the building. Greetings from Germany.💐😀

A brief but educational museum, positioned just across the road from where it’ll tell you the mayflower steps probably weren’t. There are interactive elements suited to younger children, and wall panels of text for the adults. All in, it did a good job of bringing the history to life and positioning it within an appropriate context.

A museum that provides a narrative of what happened before the Mayflower departed, its voyager and ultimate arrival in North America. With a focus on not on those colonists, but those tribes that were ultimately colonised. The museum is inexpensive, with a lift to all levels. You start at the top and work your way down. Due to the nature of the Mayflower, you won't see any primary exhibits (as few items would still be arouns from ordinary folk, with scant resources). Instead it will be from letters of the time, providing a narrative for the era and its impact to this day. I did hear an old boy complain about how the museum doesn't say about all the good things the colonisers did. Even saying those tribes would want reparations. Considering 90% of the Wampanoag died because of the colonisers, mainly from disease, I don't think that is a pat on the back moment for England. He seemed like the type of person, that this sort of narrative displayed in the museum could open up other point of view.
Tom ( — Google review
A small museum, plenty of interactive things for kids. Most of the displays are written text with few other exhibits. I found the timeline showing the journey the “Pilgrims made before actually setting off from Plymouth most interesting. Probably very interesting for visitor from the US looking to tracing their roots.

The Elizabethan House in Plymouth, built in 1599, has recently undergone a significant restoration as part of the Plymouth Mayflower 400 commemorations. Despite surviving the challenges of slums and the Plymouth Blitz, it has been strengthened to ensure its longevity. The house now offers an immersive visitor experience with guided tours that provide insight into the history of The Barbican. This historic property is a prime example of 16th-century architecture and is furnished to reflect its Tudor-era origins.
The place is fascinating taking you back in time. Family friendly as children are allowed to touch and trails are available. What made it extra spectacular was the staff who are knowledgeable, friendly, and engaging. They made our visit really memorable

The Elizabethan House offers a fascinating journey through over 400 years of history, with its origins dating back to 1599. As you explore, you step into the lives of the many people who once called it home, gaining insight into how the house has evolved alongside the community around it. The experience not only brings the past to life but also highlights the building’s cultural importance in its historical context. I would highly recommend this to anyone with a love of history. It’s an enriching experience, surprisingly affordable, and operated through The Box.

Visited on Friday. Very enjoyable and interesting, recommended highly. I think the level of theatrical interpretation is just right and brings it to life. A lovely restoration job. My only suggestion would be maybe just a teeny bit more light in the rooms as the interesting objects weren’t always easy to see clearly, but that’s just my opinion. 5* attraction.

Located in the heart of Plymouth, Drake Circus is a modern shopping mall featuring a striking glass and steel design. With over 70 shops including top UK brand names, visitors can indulge in retail therapy and explore a variety of dining options. Additionally, Plymouth offers other shopping destinations such as the Royal William Yard, a historic naval provisions storage facility transformed into a vibrant hub for restaurants, art galleries, and independent boutiques. The area also hosts open-air events like live music and art exhibitions.
Drake Circus Shopping Mall, Plymouth 🛍️ Located in the city centre this Circular layout mall houses popular brands such as Levi’s, Pandora & Mango, buzzing Primark, H&M , M&S , New Look , River Island , Boots , Superdrug and lots more. There’s no shortage of food spots either, whether you want something quick inside the mall or prefer a bite from the newly opened eateries on the streets. Plenty of parking available and easy access to The Box museum and The Barcode Cineworld, perfect for shopping and exploring.

All the main shops, probably the best car park system I've ever seen too. Yet the complex has no soul, no decent food or coffee shops, it's just very generic. Decent Next mind you.
Martin ( — Google review
I recently spent a full day at Drake Circus Shopping Centre in Plymouth, and overall I was pleasantly impressed. Situated right in the heart of the city, the centre brings together more than 70 familiar high-street and independent brands under one roof — it’s definitely one of the main retail hubs for the region. From the moment I arrived, I found the layout convenient and easy to navigate. The signage is clear, escalators and lifts work smoothly, and the clean, airy interiors made walking between shops comfortable. I also appreciated the free BT WiFi throughout, which made checking options and comparing prices on the go effortless. The retail mix is strong: I found everything from fashion, accessories, tech, to beauty and gift shops. Big names like Next and Primark anchor the centre, which helps draw a wide customer base. For a break, the adjacent Barcode entertainment complex adds real value — it offers a modern cinema (including IMAX), various restaurants, indoor mini-golf, and more, which is perfect for combining shopping with leisure. In terms of practicalities, the parking is generous, though the rates can mount up if you stay many hours. Shopmobility is available, which is a helpful inclusion for those with mobility constraints. My only minor critiques: during peak times, some corridors get crowded; and while the centre is modern, some areas feel a bit generic in design. But the positives far outweigh these. Cleanliness, accessibility, variety, and the integrated entertainment options make Drake Circus very worthwhile. I’d rate it 4.5 out of 5 stars, and I look forward to returning.

Drake Circus is a fantastic shopping destination right in the heart of Plymouth. The mall has a great selection of stores, from popular high-street brands to beauty, tech, and lifestyle shops – making it easy to find whatever you’re looking for in one convenient location. The centre is modern, clean, and well-maintained, with a spacious layout that makes for a relaxed shopping experience. It’s also beautifully decorated during festive seasons, which adds a really nice touch. There are plenty of food and drink options available, whether you’re after a quick coffee, a light lunch, or something more filling. The café and restaurant area on the upper floor offers a good variety and a nice spot to take a break. The staff across the stores and the mall itself are friendly and helpful, and there’s a strong sense of safety and organisation throughout. Parking is convenient, and the location is easily accessible by public transport. Overall, Drake Circus is a great place to shop, meet friends, or spend a rainy afternoon in Plymouth. Highly recommended for locals and visitors alike!

Usual culprits in her for shopping centre. M&S, Next, primark, Water stones, boots ect. Has public toilets and parking (tho spaces are in my opinion too thin for modern vehicles) so that's a a semi win. Walk ways always feel cramps and busy wich there wasn't pop up stall in the central corridor so there's space for foot traffic to be a less clostrophobic experience. Altogether has staple shops but would love to see some more unique shops.

The Devonport Naval Heritage Centre, previously known as the Plymouth Naval Base Museum, is a maritime museum that showcases the history of The Dockyard and Plymouth's significant support for the Royal Navy since 1300, including its role in major conflicts like World Wars. The center features interactive exhibits and a submarine display depicting the dockyard's involvement with the Royal Navy. Run by knowledgeable volunteers, it offers insightful discussions about the exhibits and operates on a donation basis.
A thoroughly fascinating place crammed full of memorabilia and ephemera about the Royal Navy and the dockyard at Devonport. It's a surprisingly large place, with exhibits over several floors and across different buildings. What it lacks in slick modern presentation it more than makes up with heart and enthusiastic volunteers who are more than happy to talk and explain the exhibits.

Several knowledgeable old boys in attendance who are very keen to share their knowledge, with considerable humility, I have to say. Naval history from 1600s to recent past. The model ships get biggER and BIGGER as you go round. No sub available in August 2024, but there is a fully working periscope through you can look across Plymouth, pick a target and shout 'Close torpedo tubes' & 'Fire!!' At least an hour's fun and education.

There is nice reception area where you can get tour guide of the centre. It is fascinating to see the historical exhibits presented by passionate and very knowledgeable volunteers. Only problem is lack of signs on the main road to point you to right place. The best guide is as if you are heading to Torpoint ferry, go over the set of traffic lights and than turn towards industrial estate. Than just follow Vivid approach and you should be there. There is also parking area if you are coming by car.

Great marina, friendly staff, coffee available in the marina office and they're always happy to have a chat. We have great neighbours on the well-placed pontoon at West Pier. Our berth is against the water rather than near the land and we wouldn't have it any other way. Very happy, thank you!

The Barbican is a historic area in Plymouth, featuring cobbled streets lined with 200 listed buildings of Tudor and Jacobean architecture. It's a popular spot for leisurely strolls, shopping, and dining at various restaurants and cafes. The neighborhood exudes a vibrant atmosphere during the summer, offering opportunities to explore the local history, purchase souvenirs from gift shops, and enjoy meals at family-owned restaurants serving fresh fish dishes.
Old part of Plymouth by the harbour, during the day, narrow cobbled streets with an eclectic mix of shops and pubs, it’s even got Plymouth Gin Distillery! What more could anybody want? Buzzing on the Saturday night I was there (I don’t know if it’s only Saturday nights) but plenty of bars and music to choose from.

The menu features modern cuisine, pub classics, and traditional cream teas that have received high praise from visitors.
This is perfectly located on the seaside so you get beautiful view. We visited for lunch on weekday in March so it wasn’t crowded. We enjoyed fish and chips, salmon and prawns fish cake, steak baguette; everything was good. I love the ambience but service was okay. They have plenty of sitting space inside and outside. I would recommend this place for seafood with good food 👍🏼

The Tamar Bridge, a toll-charged suspension bridge, has connected Plymouth and Saltash since 1962. It was built to address the increased traffic between the two areas that ferries were struggling to handle at the time. The 335-meter-long bridge offers spectacular views of the River Tamar and is accompanied by the iconic Royal Albert Bridge designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Visitors can learn about both bridges at the Visitor and Learning Centre, which interprets their heritage.
What can I say a beautiful bridge ! It’s amazing to drive over you pay a fee when your driving back ! Taking you into the beginning of Cornwall or you enjoy Plymouth! We sat under the bridge as well and took some amazing pictures as you can see ! A bridge in history a fantastic build ! Enjoy the views while you’re driving over !

It now costs me £3 to get over the same bridge I paid £2.60 to get across last month. Still can't work out what exactly the tens of millions of pounds a year this place makes goes to. Gets a second star as I have used the toilet facilities a couple of times and they are well maintained.

What a bridge from civilisation to the barbaric other side. However you can decide which way is which. From the atmospheric fog bound river that clears as you leave the tunnel to the bright blue crystal waters to the life giving driving rain. It is all avaliable on the bridge. However you will still need a small mortgage to cross regularly.

The Bank is a charming pub located in Plymouth, housed in a historic building that survived World War II bombing raids. The elegant interior features original details and a welcoming atmosphere. The pub offers a wide selection of beers and delicious pub food, drawing in locals and visitors alike. Its heated garden is a popular spot for patrons to enjoy during the summer months. Live entertainment and karaoke nights add to the lively ambiance of this former bank turned pub.
Absolutely lovely staff in here, the blonde haired lady I assumed to be the manager is the life and soul of the place, very friendly to the customers, walking around very much involved with the place and the customers, was always smiling and has a bubbly personality! Whilst the gentleman behind the bar was also very friendly and professional. The atmosphere is welcoming and enjoyable by everyone who was in there. I ordered the Cheese Burger Spring Rolls which I didn't even know was a thing 🤷🏼‍♀️ and they were so tasty and fresh and came with a cheese burger sauce, I will definitely order them again! The whole place is very clean as well as the toilets. There's 3 floors and with plenty of seating for a different amount of customers at each table.. Theres 2 TVs which were showing different sports on both... Many different Deals on meals.. The service was fab! 👌🏼 Thank you 😊

Nice staff. The blond guy w glasses remembered my order from 20 minutes previous. A 40-something blond waitress I teased was quick witted. The Philly sandwich was good but sloppy. I liked it. My son only ate half, but I don't think he'd like any Philly sandwich. The decor is quaint and fancy from American eyes. It was too noisy but that's a hazard of the game.

The food offering was pitiful; a hot dog or a pasty, each costing £5. They refused to take cash. The bar was poorly stocked. Once inside the auditorium, all was fine. The staff were very helpful & polite.

Good venue which brings popular music to Plymouth. I had an issue with booking the incorrect seats, the pavilion booking office went above and beyond to rectify my mistake. My only criticism of the place is the bars - spent over 40 mins queuing which isn’t uncommon. This has been an issue for quite a while, there are plenty of solutions available, it would be great if this was looked into. How about vending machines for softs and water, pre poured pints on dedicated tills to name but 2 ideas.

During the recent lockdown, they revamped the garden area into a stunning Turkish-themed oasis with cozy seating and eye-catching gazebos. The couple also manages the nearby Kapadokya restaurant. Upstairs, the cafe exudes comfort and character with quirky decor that adds to its unique charm.
I stopped off here for a coffee and couldn't resist trying the sarma (stuffed vine leaves). Delicious food and the three sarmas and the side salad were a good meal. The dip was creamy and tasty. The coffee was good quality, and I ordered a second cup. The garden location is gorgeous and tranquil. An oasis from the bustle of The Barbican. I will be back to try the cake.

Sooo good! I got a dirty chai and it was perfectly spicy and a hint of sweet. And their Menemen and it revived me. It was so juicy and piping hot and I could probably eat an entire loaf of their homemade sourdough The vibes were good too! The owner works everyday and his cat and dog just chill in the garden and pick who they wanna sit next to. Plus the dog has a purple Mohawk so it really doesn’t get any better than that

This cafe is truly a hidden gem of Turkish delight. Set in Plymouth old town (curiously called New Street) just off from the hustle and bustle of the Barbican, along the old cobbled street, this looks like a traditional English tea house. The interior is quite enchanting - the garden even more so! Sitting in the warm summer sun you could almost believe you were in Turkey itself surrounded by a traditional Turkish decor and Turkish waitresses. We had a fabulous lunch of Mad Merchants Turkish Delight and Sourdough Smash and a pot of Granny's Garden fruit infusion. We also indulged in the marvelous cakes! Such a wonderful alternative and so relaxing. All the staff were so courteous and engaging. We will definately return and recommend to all our friends. Amazingly good!

Just back from a fantastic visit to this place. A lovely welcome from all the staff we encountered then offered water while we looked at the menu and a bowl of water and a gravy bone biscuit for the dog. We sat in the garden on the beautiful covered seating. A good selection of cakes to choose from. I highly recommend the coffee and walnut cake. So many different teas to choose from and a savoury menu of lunches that start at noon, plus you can get breakfast too. Will definitely go back again to sample more goodies. Really recommend.

I have had very very bad experience in this store armada Plymouth subway.. I’ve ordered 4 footlongs here I’m allergic to fish and first he used the fish knife for my veggie infront of me even then i asked him to change his gloves I’ve asked very politely the server to change his gloves because he was serving fish to another customer and he just got mad, and he been literally so rude to me i asked him to put some salad in my sub but he goes im not gona talk to you and not going to serve you, he was white skinny guy as he didn’t wear the name badge, I’m warning everyone whoever has allergy or vegetarian don’t go to this store as they mix everything. Such a bad service..

Feel hard done by giving them a 1 star. Ordered a meal online. Got the footlong, no drink, no side, no cookie. 3 items missing. Ring the shop to tell them… customer service worst I’ve experienced. No care in the world, laughing to her friends whilst on the phone. 75% of the order missing no apology or attempt to put it right just laughing with her mates “report it on the app” Abysmal. Would recommend anyone to avoid the Armarda way subway at all costs. Go somewhere you get your food or customer service. Either would be nice.

Plymouth Guildhall is a historic and versatile events venue located in the heart of Plymouth, England. The building, which dates back to the 19th century, has been beautifully restored. The main hall is particularly impressive, with high ceilings and ornate architecture. It can accommodate up to 600 people. There are also several smaller rooms available for more intimate gatherings. One of the best things about Plymouth Guildhall is its central location. It is within easy walking distance of the city's main shopping and dining areas, as well as public transport links. The staff at Plymouth Guildhall are highly professional and attentive. The only limitation I felt is that the toilet and wash room facilities are not baby friendly. In summary, Plymouth Guildhall is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a historic and elegant events venue in Plymouth. With its range of spaces, central location, and professional staff, it is sure to impress your guests and make your event a success.
Sibu K — Google review
Although both the Guildhall and the nearby St. Andrew’s Church had both been badly bombed in the war, the Guildhall was remodelled and redeveloped in a particularly 1950s style rather than being faithfully restored like St. Andrew’s. Designed by the new City Architect Hector Stirling, the Guildhall had its entrance relocated to face the new civic square. Inside, one of the best interiors of the 1950s was created. Marble, terrazzo, bronze, leather, and mahogany abounded, and a stunningly patterned ceiling was created. The undulating entrance canopy shape can be found echoed in the Pannier Market design, as can further artworks by David Weeks who created ‘The Labours of Hercules’ sculptures mounted on the Guildhall ceiling.

Here for the SW Philharmonia Choir and Orchestra, who are a good as ever. However, my visit was rather marred by the amount of people (who admitted themselves they had no disabilities) who were in the queue for the disabled toilet! For some of us who struggle to walk and even stand, this was pretty disgusting to see. Thankfully there is a lift to both the first floor (main room) and balcony, where my seat was. Unfortunately, there was no signage at all in the lift to know that the balcony was on the second floor. This meant getting out on the first, realising it was the wrong floor but making my raffle etc purchases there across the room before walking back across the long lobby to get the lift to the second floor. Ah, no signage and no seeming access to the balcony, just different rooms that appeared to be locked, one even with a chain and padlock! Back down in the lift, across the lobby again. Up all the stairs to the balcony, down the stairs to the front row seat, up a few songs later because the complete and utter lack of any legroom whatsoever meant my arthritic knees were in so much pain I was nearly in tears. At least they would match the face full of sweat from "running" around the building just trying to find the seat in the first place! Then the embarrassment of disturbing everyone to leave that seat and then also of walking back up the balcony steps to reach the very height of the gods, where there was thankfully a spare freestanding seat. I dread trying to leave. Please, for the love of all that's holy, put some simple signage in the place!

There are various activities for children and is informative. The museum also provides fantastic views over the Barbican and Plymouth Sound. Entry to the museum is very cheap. If you are already on the Barbican it is worth a visit.

Mary Newman's Cottage, situated in Saltash, is the historic grade II listed residence of Sir Frances Drake's wife. The cottage offers a glimpse into life during Elizabethan England and is furnished with items from the Elizabethan and Stuart eras. Visitors can explore the well-preserved twelfth-century cottage and learn about the history of ordinary people through the centuries. The property features a charming herb garden showcasing culinary, medicinal, and household herbs used throughout history.
Completely fascinating, beautifully preserved cottage c.1480 that survives only by a quirk of fate, but would otherwise have been lost to Saltash. The volunteer guides are welcoming & incredibly knowledgeable. A tranquil, well tended herb garden with a small garden café offering tea/coffee & delicious cakes. Step through the front door & back into history. Though bear in mind it was lived in by council tenants until 1974, without interior utilities with only the flushing toilet out back! Run on a voluntary basis, donations are always welcomed & appreciated. Opening hours are limited so check the Tamar Protection Society website https://www.tamarprotectionsociety.org.uk/ for information. An absolute gem & not to be missed.

Visiting Mary Newman’s Cottage feels like stepping straight into a storybook. The 15th-century thatched cottage is in Saltash. It's bursting with features such as low-beamed ceilings, quirky little rooms, step staircase with row banisters and a sense of history that makes you imagine who might have walked through the door centuries ago. The volunteers were friendly, knowledgeable, and told tales of fascinating tales about how the cottages survived compulsory purchase and demolition, Mary Newman, Sir Francis Drake, and the life and times of Tudor England. The V&A have loaned some period pieces of furniture to help to see how the rooms would be furnished. The gardens were well maintained and you can sit for a leisurely cup of tea. It’s not a huge place, it is intimate, cosy, and completely enchanting. It doesn't take long to get around it, but it is so worth it to see such a fascinating building. It's free to visit but please remember to leave a donation to help keep it open.

Beautiful twelfth century cottage - furnished with pieces from Elizabethan & Stuart eras. The guides are tremendously knowledgeable & clearly full of love for the place. It's a fantastic place to learn about the history of normal people and how they lived their lives in the 7 centuries since the cottage was built. There is a lovely little herb garden illustrating culinary, medicinal & household herbs used by housewives through the ages. And a plant sales area selling traditional cottage plants. Cream teas are served in the garden. Entrance is free & donations are welcome. Run by a small local charity - staff are volunteers. The cottage is a short distance from the train station. Open Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays & Sundays, April to September. At Christmas they host carol evenings.

I only saw the outside, but it has an informative board outside that explains the history.

This tiny jewel in Saltash shows the Saltash's people dedication to preserve the past. It's run by volunteers. This Grade 11 listed cottage is managed by the Tamar Protection Society and is the oldest building in Saltash, dating from around 1480. The cottage is furnished with period furniture which is on loan from the Victoria and Albert Museum and private collections which, along with utensils on display give the interior a truly atmospheric feel. Visitors can wear period clothing and play Elizabethan games during their visit. The garden is laid out in authentic Elizabethan style, showcasing the plants and herbs which were vital to a household of the period. The garden has extensive views over the Tamar below.

We love it and have been a few times and sat in the garden having coffee or tea and cake. It's so lovely and old fashioned there. Some good exhibits in the cottage. Very nice friendly helpers. Some plants for sale. We would definitely recommend it. It's on a steep hill but easy to park around there. Visited Sun 25 Aug.

Lovely place, a little gem. Beautiful tranquil garden, historical building. Set under Brunel's railway bridge. Free street parking outside. Sit out and have a cream tea or cake 👍. Such friendly volunteers will talk you through the history from Pre- Tudor times.

Nice little cottage. Friendly volunteers run this tucked away historic home of Mary Newman who was married to Sir Francis Drake. They are open from spring till the end of September. There is also a small friendly cafe with reasonably prices hot drinks and cakes. They also have a lovely cosy Carol service at Christmas time with mulled wine and mince pies.

Located in Plymouth, Devon, the Bridging the Tamar Visitor Centre is a new and free attraction that offers an informative look at the Tamar Bridge and the Royal Albert Bridge. These two impressive structures connect Devon and Cornwall over the River Tamar. The visitor center opened in 2019 and provides historical insights into these bridges, which were built in the 1960s and 1850s respectively.
This is a small but very full and interesting exhibition about the building of both the Albert Bridge by Brunel and the present day Tamar road bridge. There is free parking and it is free to enter the exhibition. There is a small coffee van next to the car park which was very busy when we were there. We combined the visit with a walk across the bridge and back. There are some fantastic views from the bridge.

Lots of interesting, hands on exhibits, fascinating facts and information. Loved the chance to view and control the bridge cams. Well worth a visit

Parking free walked across bridge had lunch walked back high light of my day trip
Sellalot S — Google review
Arrived by train at Saltash station. The walk back across the Tamar bridge is as advertised at about 15mins, is a nice walk and provides some good views. The visitor centre is well signposted, was clean and tidy. We attended on a day when there was a school trip there, although timed it just right that the group was at lunch. The displays are pretty good, with a fair amount of history of the area and other designs for what became of the Royal Albert Bridge. There are a couple of bits from the renovation of the bridge and a bell from a previous ferry. Probably spent 45mins - 1hr there. Once you have read all of the displays there isn't much more to look at. It looks more oriented to children as there are a few options on building the different types of bridges, CCTV camera station and period clothing to try on. There was not anyone around to ask questions etc..., But they were probably taking a break at the same time as the school party. Disappointed that there was no cafe or gift shop of any sort, there are a couple of guides available but with a sign saying to speak to someone or order online. There are some cafes in Saltash but on the day they all turned out to be full and so cut the day short and got back on the train.

Fantastic place to take little kids. An SC the adults might like it’s history to. Lots of activities and insight into the area and the bridge build. After take some time to go down and see the bridge in action or walk over for a cheap, free parking no entry fee, day put.

What an interesting exhibition about the Tamar Bridge! Lots of history, and practical demonstrations of how bridges work. My son was over the moon to top the leaderboard for speed-building the model of the Tamar Bridge. Controlling the security camera was brilliant! Really nice spot for a picnic as well - great views of the river and bridges.
