The Tsukiji Outer Market is a bustling hub of fresh seafood and local delicacies. While the wholesale fish market has moved to a new location, the outer market continues to attract visitors with its wide variety of seafood, sweet treats, vegetables, and pickles. In addition to food, visitors can explore knife shops and kitchen supplies. The market also features restaurants where guests can sample delicious dishes. It's a popular spot for tourists seeking an authentic culinary experience in Tokyo.
So many things to eat and shop here. I loved the variety of food! Tried lots of different dishes and everything was delicious. Even lined up for the sweet egg, and it was totally worth the wait of everything. Such a fun foodie spot to explore.

Definitely not a cheap venture it is still a must try experience. It's just hard to know what to get and from where without knowing a local. The sashimi choice is phenomenal as is the stalls offering everything from giant grilled scallops, sea urchin, fresh oysters and Okonomi-age which is my new favourite street snack. Best to walk the market (it's not huge) then decide what you like the look of and at what price and then go back to eat. The Whale Sashimi was nothing like I'd tasted before - an acquired taste that was best described as the kangaroo of the sea! And I opted to try the Tuna Sashimi from Sushizanmai as price vs value was the best. However, if you are a sushi aficionado looking for a top-tier experience it is a little less “magical” than the smaller, specialized sushi shops or high-end omakase spots. I loved the Mitarashi Dango and I prefered the hot Tamogayaki on a stick better than the cold pre-prepared options. The Wagyu Beef Tacos from Wagyu Jyu Jyu was also a win and are a tasty, budget Wagyu fix — not as luxe, but worth it for the salsa onion. To wash it all down do not go past a Muscat Grape Smoothie, my newest addiction! And a hidden gem are the Pork And Chicken Dumplings from Suga Shoten and as an added bonus are one of very few that take card.

An absolute paradise for food lovers! The freshest seafood you can imagine — I tried some incredible tuna that just melted in my mouth. The market is full of colors, energy, and amazing smells, with stalls offering sushi, oysters, grilled scallops, and all kinds of snacks. Don’t miss the delicious ice cream — perfect after a seafood feast! Great place for photos too — every corner is full of life and color. A must-visit when in Tokyo!

The Tsukiji Outdoor Market is an amazing experience! So much incredible fresh seafood, delicious street food, and a lively atmosphere. The vendors are friendly, and there’s a great mix of traditional and modern Japanese snacks and gifts. Perfect spot to explore, eat, and soak up the local culture! 🐟🍣

# 🇯🇵 Tsukiji: Early Morning Charm Meets Tourist Traps Tsukiji is rather worth an early morning visit—there’s something quite authentic about the old Japanese atmosphere that lingers in the narrow lanes. However, do tread carefully. Establishments charging 5,000 yen for a single beef skewer? That’s what one might call the textbook definition of an “intelligence tax” aimed squarely at tourists 😅 A reliable rule of thumb: Stick to spots where you see Japanese locals queuing up. If the clientele is entirely tourists, well… your wallet will thank you for walking past. 💡 Quick Tip Early mornings offer the best atmosphere, and following the locals never steers you wrong.

• The Tsukiji Outer Market (築地場外市場, Tsukiji Jōgai Shijō) is the area that remains after the wholesale inner market moved to Toyosu. • It’s a lively, working market district where both professionals (chefs, restaurateurs) and tourists shop. • The streets are narrow and filled with a mix of seafood stalls, restaurants, dried‑food shops, and kitchenware / knife shops. • There’s a real “market” feel: corrugated roofs, old signage, and a history that goes back many decades. What to Eat • Seafood Bowls (Kaisendon / Donburi): One of the biggest draws — many shops serve fresh kaisendon (rice bowls with raw seafood). Live Japan notes bowls with uni, tuna, ikura, etc., usually between ¥1,000–¥2,000 for good quality. • Street Food: There are lots of snack‑type stalls: grilled scallops, whole prawns, seafood skewers. • Non-Seafood Options: You can also find tamagoyaki (rolled omelet), tempura, ramen, and traditional sweets. • Kitchenware & Knives: Tsukiji Outer Market is famous for its professional-grade knives and cooking utensils — great spot for culinary gear shopping. • Authentic Market Feel: Even though it’s very tourist-visited, it retains real working-market energy. • Wide Variety: You’re not just limited to seafood — lots of food variety + shopping. • Fresh Seafood: Because many shops still deal in real wholesale or “trade‑level” seafood, the quality can be very high. • Early Morning Charm: The best time to visit is early morning — many shops open very early, and you’ll avoid some of the crowds. • Expert Advice Available: Some vendors are very knowledgeable; if you’re buying ingredients or knives, you can ask for tips. • Great for Photography: The old-style market architecture, narrow alleys, and food stalls make for very “Tokyo market” photo • Crowds: It gets very busy, especially mid‑morning (around 9–11 am) when tourist foot traffic peaks. • Limited Afternoon Hours: Many stalls close around early afternoon (some shops close by ~14:00). • Not All Shops Open Every Day: Some shops close on Sundays and some Wednesdays. • Touristy Prices: Some visitors feel that food, especially sushi or donburi, can be more expensive than what locals pay. > “Food at the Tsukiji outer market is not a good deal … it’s not a place to go for a bargain.” • Photo Etiquette & Space: The market is crowded and narrow — be careful when taking photos, don’t block walkways, and ask before photographing shops. • Luggage & Bags: Large bags and strollers can be cumbersome; the official site advises storing large items to keep lanes clear. • Go Early: Aim for early morning (around 7:00–8:30) to catch the market vibe, good food, and fewer crowds. • Bring Cash: While many shops accept cards, smaller stalls may be cash-only. • Sample Before Buying: Many food stalls let you try small items; and for kitchenware, vendor staff often give advice or show how to use tools. • Plan What to Eat: Make a “food crawl” — pick a few must-try stalls (seafood bowl, grilled scallop, tamago, etc.) rather than trying to eat everything. • Check Shop Open Days: Because of varied closing days (especially Wednesdays and Sundays), check the market’s website or shop list before going. On the flip side: some say “food is good, but make sure to go early – otherwise you’ll hit crowds and limited selection.” • According to Good Luck Trip, there are about 400+ shops, making it an excellent place to both browse and eat. • Definitely Worth It If You: • Love seafood and want to try quality fresh Japanese seafood bowls. • Enjoy food markets, street food, and culinary culture. • Are an early riser and don’t mind navigating narrow alleys. • Want to combine shopping for food + kitchen tools + souvenirs. • Maybe Skip / De-prioritize If You: • Only have a short trip to Tokyo and don’t care much about food markets. • Don’t like crowded tourist spots. • Prefer “budget-only” food — it’s not always super cheap for what you’re tasting. Beware of overpriced shops, as 90% are foreign tourists.

Tsukiji Fish Market is a historic market in Tokyo that has also become a popular tourist attraction. Fortunately, they still have a market selling fish, in addition to restaurants and shops selling souvenirs. Additionally, the food and drinks at Tsukiji Fish Market are very reasonably priced. All the stores and restaurants are bustling, with hundreds of customers lined up outside. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and look forward to returning to Tsukiji Fish Market next time I visit Tokyo.
Michael W — Google review
Crowded but a staple when visiting Japan for tourists. We enjoyed our time at the Tsukiji fish market, but be prepared for long lines and crowded walkways if you go near ~9 AM, even ~8 AM and after. Most vendors only take cash. And a lot of places you can’t sit and eat, you have to stand. For most trashcans, you must eat at the location in order to throw away your trash. If you are visiting Kyoto, I feel like the Nishiki is comparable, and a lot less busy (unless it’s a rainy day in Kyoto).

St. Ignatius Catholic Church, named after Saint Ignatius of Loyola, has a resilient history that saw it destroyed during World War II and rebuilt four years later with further renovations in 1999. Located near Yotsuya Station, the multinational church offers Sunday prayers in various languages to accommodate visitors from different backgrounds. The elliptical main sanctuary is a symbol of the church's unity and warmth, attracting people seeking blessings and inspiration.
St. Ignatius Church in Tokyo is an architectural masterpiece, featuring a striking round shape and high side windows that create a bright, stunning space focused on the altar. The expansive compound offers a variety of activities, adding to the church's vibrant atmosphere. English Mass is held every Sunday at 12 pm, providing an inclusive experience for English-speaking visitors. A serene, beautiful place to reflect and connect.

Beautiful church. We came to listen to English mass on a Sunday. It was a peaceful atmosphere, with a thought-provoking sermon, and the congregation was lovely and diverse (it was our first time hearing African praise and worship and we absolutely loved it. We even searched for the songs when we came back home. Much love to our brothers and sisters). We will come back on our future visits.
Coreen G — Google review
Great experience here. The architecture was very unique compared to must churches since it's designed to withstand a magnitude 7 earthquake. It is a subtle, understated beautiful design with an amazing ceiling. We were also impressed with the number of participants ts and sheer size of the mass. We attended on a hot July Sunday and there were easily 800 people in attendance. Kudos to my wife for suggesting we actually attend mass during vacation!

St. Ignatius Catholic Church (Kojimachi) is such a peaceful and beautiful place. It’s spacious and surrounded by greenery, and also one of the Porta Sancta churches. What really stands out is the architecture — the ceiling is shaped like a flower and partly transparent, letting in soft natural light while keeping the place cool and calm. Truly a serene spot to pray and reflect.

Here’s a detailed overview of St. Ignatius Church in Tokyo: its history, what you’ll experience there, and things to keep in mind if you plan to visit. Easy access from Yotsuya JR station. 📍 Basic Information • Official name: Kōjimachi Catholic Church, but commonly known as St. Ignatius Church. • Address: 6-5-1 Kōjimachi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo 102-0083. • Nearest stations: JR Yotsuya Station (Kōjimachi exit), Tokyo Metro Yotsuya Station (Marunouchi / Namboku lines). • Entry: Free of charge. No ticket required. 🕰 History & Architecture • The parish traces its origins back to 1936 when a church under the name “St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus” was established. • In 1945, during a massive air raid, the predecessor church burned down. • The Jesuit order (the Society of Jesus) was entrusted with reviving the parish, and the dedication to St. Ignatius of Loyola took place in 1949. • The current church building was completed in 1999. • Architectural features: The main chapel is oval-shaped (symbolising life and resurrection) and the building includes 12 columns representing the 12 apostles, along with stained glass windows with nature themes. ⸻ 🙏 Masses & Services • Weekday Masses (in Japanese): 7:00 am, 12:00 noon, 6:00 pm. • Sunday Masses: • Japanese: 7:00 am, 8:30 am, 10:00 am, 6:00 pm. • English: 12:00 noon every Sunday. • Spanish: 1:30 pm every Sunday. • Additional languages: Portuguese, Vietnamese, Polish, Indonesian services at specific times. • Other sacraments: Confession is offered (times vary depending on day) and there’s mention of home communion for the sick. ✅ Why It’s Worth a Visit • Central location in Tokyo, easy to reach from major metro/train lines. • Architecturally interesting building with symbolic design and ample space. • International parish: multilingual Masses make it welcoming for non-Japanese speakers. • Free entry, so you can visit whether or not you plan to attend Mass. • Good for both worshippers and visitors interested in religious architecture or quiet reflection. ⚠ Things to Keep in Mind • As with many active churches, it is a place of worship first—so during Mass, dress modestly and maintain respectful silence. • If visiting outside Mass times, check their official website or bulletin for any changes (holidays, maintenance). • Photography: Generally not allowed inside the churches, but during services or in restricted areas (altar, tabernacle) you should be discreet and follow any posted rules. The sources I found don’t guarantee unrestricted photo access. • If you plan to visit for a Mass in a specific language (e.g., English or Spanish), arriving a bit early is wise to secure a seat. • Although the building is modern and well-equipped (wheelchair access, etc) check for current accessibility features if you have specific needs. If you’re in Tokyo and have even a bit of time, St Ignatius Church is a solid choice: you’ll find a welcoming environment, interesting architecture, and the ability to attend Mass in English or other languages if you wish. Whether you’re religious or just curious about cultural/religious landmarks, it’s a visit that can fit in easily with many itineraries.

This was the first time I had  visited this church. They have Vietnamese mass on Sunday  at 3:30 p.m. A large number of young people attended the  liturgy, and the church was  beautiful. Specifically, the  roof is shaped like a flower.

This is one of the church that being chosen by the Archdiocese of Tokyo as 2025 Jubilee pilgrimage sites. I love the architecture of this oval-shaped church. It serves masses for several languages, such as Japanese, English, Vietnamese, and also Indonesian (biweekly). The air conditioner worked even if there was no mass.
ALG87 — Google review
Attended mass here with my wife and 3 children. It’s a huge church, very spacious and gets packed on a Sunday 12pm English Mass. We had attended this Mass after experiencing Mass at the Franciscan Centre in Roppongi the week earlier which seemed more like a Disney musical performance. You can imagine how relieved we were to experience the normal order of Mass here at St Ignatius. The priest was calm, prayerful and had a good sermon. The only negatives was that there seems to be random lay volunteer women at all these Japanese churches who take their jobs too seriously. The moment our child approximated a cry, they come up to us insisting it’d be better if we took them to the cry room. All in all, a beautiful church

Ochanomizu Station is located in a vibrant area known for its educational institutions and musical instrument district. On one side, you'll find prestigious universities like Sundai Prep School, Nihon University, Meiji University, and Chuo University, while the other side boasts Yushima Seido, University of Medical and Dental Sciences, and Juntendo University.
The scent of guitars, coffee, and church bells fills the air. Bookstores lean toward the river as if to listen. Musicians and students cross bridges where wind hums softly. The yellow train glides through — the city’s melody given shape. Tourist Tip: Visit the Holy Resurrection Cathedral and the many music instrument shops. Great for café hopping or riverside sketching.

Yasukuni Jinja, situated in Kudankita, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, is a Shinto shrine honoring the souls of Japanese military personnel who perished in conflicts and wars since the Meiji era. The shrine pays tribute to approximately 2,466,000 spirits who sacrificed their lives for Japan.
Founded by Emperor Meiji in June 1869 to commemorate those who died in service for Japan. The shrine contains names of almost 2,5 million men including one thousand war criminals there of whom 12 were charged with class A crimes. Because of this controversy the last two emperors never visited the shrine. There's also a military museum adjacent to the shrine.

A beautiful and vast shrine with a presence. The large tori gate greeting you as you enter the shrine makes this temple unique among the temple in Tokyo. When you enter the temple, you are greeted with a large public area with many sections to explore. Going near the end of the day is unique as you get to see the sun setting over the tori gate and the temple.

It's beautiful. The shrine is dedicated to the respect of all those who died fighting for Japan from the Meiji Era onward. There is the shrine proper, the Yushukan a museum to preserve the memory of the kami, an archive, a beautiful garden and several monuments. The shrine is very important and there is a lot of people there during the day. The best time to be there is very early in the morning.

Very big temple with - parking, vending machines, museum, food stalls and largely many festivals and ceremonies held very frequently. One of the best places to visit and experience the difference - pleasant and lively location with lot of Ginko trees and tree shades to beat the heat while in summer, beat the cold with fantastic views in winter, thrilling views during autumn with the color changes … a place one should never miss.
Atchut K — Google review
Very beautiful and peaceful place. They were doing construction before an event so there was scaffolding, but even that was pretty. Inside the museum is a nice gift shop and a pretty public toilet. Quick note, if you want to take a photo of the shrine, take it from the side near the gravel (or the guard will politely remind you).

Very beautiful shrine. The yearly Mitama Matsuri is a must see in Tokyo. Japanese people honor the spirits of the dead on these days. The shrine is decorated with 30,000 lanterns during this time.

This place is a sacred place for Japan. The spirits of the dead of Japanese solders from ww2 are deified here since the end of the war. They devoted themselves to their sweet homeland. Respect here and never be impolite. You all can come here! This is open for everyone and good park with greens! There are huge gate and Shrine. You would feel very sacred atmosphere! You can buy fortune stuffs here. And there are museum for Japanese ancestors who devoted themselves to Japan!!!

True to its reputation, this shrine has some interesting galleries and exhibitions on the more sensitive topics. But otherwise, it’s a pretty huge shrine/park with seats every couple of steps for you to rest and enjoy the atmosphere.

Kanda Shrine, also known as Kanda Myojin, is a revered Shinto shrine located in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo. It has a rich history dating back over 1,000 years and is considered the collective guardian deity for 108 neighborhood associations in areas such as Nihonbashi, Akihabara, and Marunouchi.
Went to Kanda Myoujin Shrine, and it was such a pleasant experience. Despite expecting it to be crowded, it wasn’t as busy as I thought it would be. There was a festival happening at the time, adding a vibrant touch to the experience. I also tried some delicious street food nearby, which was a fun bonus! The combination of the beautiful shrine, the festive atmosphere, and tasty snacks made for a wonderful day out. Highly recommend checking it out if you’re in the area!

Lovely shrine with a large main building with many smaller buildings around it. A visitor centre is built to the side and a museum can be found at the back of the shrine grounds. It seems like wedding ceremonies can also be arranged here. However, this place feels very commercialised. I'm not sure how I should feel about a place of worship being commercialised to this extent...

This shrine is open 24 hours a day, so you can come to worship at any time. It also appears as a setting in anime, making it a must-visit spot for travelers who love Japanese animation and history 😊😊😊

As there was an annual festival there, I went there with friends. Due to light rain, there weren't so many visitors as expected. With some money offering, I prayed to its god for the success in my business. There were some music performances, beating Japanese drum playing old Japanese music with Japanese guitars and bamboo flutes. Make sure to buy the famous Amazake at the entrance for 350 yen.

An interesting temple situated in the middle of tall office and residential buildings. It doesn't seem to be as touristy as other similar temples which can be considered a good thing for most visitors. I'd say its worth a visit if you are in the area.

A lovely shrine, especially at night. It gave me the feeling of Spirited Away, like stepping in the spiritual world. (I accidentally came across it when I was walking back to my hotel at night)

In close proximity from akhihabra this is a beautiful shrine. Very peaceful. There is a bit of Climbing stairs as it’s on elevated ground.

Hie Shrine is a significant complex of Shinto shrines and gardens located in Akasaka, Tokyo. Established in 1478, it was once situated within the grounds of Edo Castle before being relocated to its current location in 1659. The shrine features a torii path that offers an alternative to the famous Fushimi Inari in Kyoto, providing a picturesque spot for photography with its red gates.
Beautiful shrine. Located on the hill but they have escalator for you to get in and out so don’t worried. Famous for lucky to the people. Enjoy !
Supakij K — Google review
Surrounded by modern buildings, the shrine feels especially charming. Clear signs guide you from the subway exit. An escalator at the main entrance saves many people's knees. The omamori is a monkey, the first time I've seen one like this.

A very beautiful shrine in the midst of all the big concrete office buildings. Really bringing to life the duality of the old and new japan. Unfortunately, we arrived just after the goshuin area was closed despite it saying it closes at 5 on google, but was shut after 4. There was also quite a bit of construction near the shrine, but it is still open.
Frederik F — Google review
What a surprising place right in the middle of the urban area of Akasaka. It's an important and very beautiful Shinto shrine. What stands out the most is the staircase at one of the entrances (west side), with dozens of red torii gates, which looks like a smaller version of the famous Fushimi Inari in Kyoto. It's perfect for photos. Another curiosity is the monkey statues guarding the site, instead of the traditional lion-dogs, as they are considered the messengers of the local deity. There is even an escalator at another entrance to facilitate the ascent to the main courtyard. Admission is free.

We saw the place from the hotel room we stay. So we decided to check it out one morning. Pretty creepy when learned about the origin of the shrine but i love creepy!!!!!! Cool stories and artifacts in the museum room though. Not a religious person but i love to know about cultures and places

During my time of visit there was a lot of people on the month of December which i understand, but definitely a peaceful place to come and pray before the end of year. One thing I dislike is when the non locals or people who are not from Japan crowding up the line just to a picture in the exit way I understand the background is nice with the tori gates but please be respectful and let the people pass instead making them wait

Quiet and peaceful. It was not crowded, only visited by local prayers and a little amount of tourist. The sunset from the shrine area was beautiful. Keep in mind that we can't take photographs of the shrine building itself.

Meat dish restaurant
Kobe Beef Kaiseki 511 is a renowned restaurant that offers A5-quality Kobe beef, known for its exceptional taste and marbling. The menu features various preparations of this top-grade beef, including steak, sushi, and shabu-shabu. While the dining experience comes at a price, the establishment also provides a special lunch deal to accommodate budget-conscious diners.
Service: Chen was fantastic! The service was very attentive and of the highest quality. She explained all of the menu and even how to eat everything. The rest of the staff were very on point too. We felt a very elevated level of service and it started from when we walked in the door Food: The food was all just absolutely amazing! The flavors were all very well balanced and you could tell that everything was very well prepared and thought out. The beef itself was sublime! The fat and meat were so well balanced that everything just melted in your mouth. 11/10 and a great way to end the trip to Japan for us!
Robin R — Google review
The reservation process was seamless and efficient, facilitated through Google. I arrived approximately ten minutes prior to my scheduled time and was greeted with a warm and welcoming reception. Ms. Chen, my server, demonstrated exceptional professionalism and provided valuable assistance in selecting my dinner. The presentation of the meal was impeccable, transforming the dining experience into a culinary journey centered around Kobe beef, which I thoroughly enjoyed. While the pricing was somewhat elevated for the specific dish, the exquisite taste of the steak fully justified the cost.
S J — Google review
We visited this high-end restaurant in Tokyo to try their renowned Kobe beef. While the service was truly impeccable and the staff spoke excellent English, which made the experience smooth and pleasant, there are several points worth noting for future guests. They offer an exceptional wine selection, including prestigious labels such as Château Pétrus, Château Margaux, and Dom Pérignon champagne. The atmosphere is elegant and refined, clearly catering to a luxury clientele. However, the menu prices are very expensive, especially in the evening. Prices range from ¥26,000 to ¥38,000 per person, plus a 10% service charge. We ordered two menus at ¥33,000 each. Surprisingly, basic items such as rice (¥400) and even a small piece of bread with butter (¥400) were charged separately — something I personally find quite unusual for this price point. The food presentation was refined, but in my opinion, the taste and quality did not justify the high cost. The total bill came to ¥90,000 (around USD $600) — equivalent to a meal at a two- or three-star Michelin restaurant in France. The Kobe beef itself was good, but not extraordinary. Honestly, I’ve had better steaks for a fraction of the price, both in Japan and abroad. In conclusion, this is a luxury restaurant with top-tier service and fine wines, but the culinary experience, while decent, did not meet the expectations set by the price. It was worth trying once, but I would not return. Be aware that you’re paying for the prestige, not necessarily the flavor.
Alexandre B — Google review
This spot is a great place for couples and maybe families with older children. You a private booth to yourself. The food was amazing, the space between course/dishes was perfectly timed. Of course the Kobe was on point!!! Delicious. The service, the presentation and atmosphere were spot on. Our server Taisei was extremely well mannered and had great conversations with him after every course/dish. The other staff as well. Really good concept for sure. If you are ever in the US Taisei look me up.

Kobe Beef 511 is exceptional. From the moment you walk in, the calm elegance and genuine hospitality set the tone. The beef is extraordinary, tender, perfectly marbled, and cooked with precision. Every bite is rich yet delicate, complemented by beautifully balanced sides and sauces. Service is attentive, discreet, and thoughtful throughout. A truly memorable experience for anyone who values genuine quality, craftsmanship, and quiet excellence.

Tokyo Daijingu is a bustling 19th-century Shinto shrine in Tokyo, established during the Meiji period as a substitute for the distant Ise Jingu. It's immaculately kept and known for its role in starting Shinto wedding ceremonies. The shrine is popular among those seeking help with love and romance, believed to bring good fortune in relationships. Located just a 4-minute walk from Iidabashi Station, it's easily accessible by various train lines.
A small gem near Kagurazaka, Tokyo. The temple is calm but charming. I went there in the evening when the temple was lit up with small amount of visitors. This traditional temple is surrounded by modern office and residential buildings which shows how well history blends in with the local community in Tokyo.

Very cool Shinto Shrine in central Tokyo. Many smaller shrines here too. Many people visiting durning the day. There is a shrine office. Well kept and easy to find. Nice wooden Tori gate. Check it out if you’re in the area.
Daniel S — Google review
Small temple, surprisingly long line. I’d probably skip this one next time unless you’re into spiritual speed dating. Apparently, people come here to pray for love—and judging by the crowd, most are very single and very hopeful. Honestly, it feels less like a sacred site and more like Tokyo’s most polite singles mixer. If you’re looking for romance or just someone who also believes in divine matchmaking, this might be your place. Otherwise, bring patience… and maybe a dating app.
Dave H — Google review
Quite a nice shrine. Just be aware that it is mainly for singles looking for God’s help to send them love and a partner in life. If you are coming with your family might not be exactly appropriate to stand on the same queue as the singles who are walking towards the altar and making their love wishes. We stepped away from the queue and took a few pictures. Beware of mosquitoes. We have all been bitten by them in the same moment. It can get pretty crowded especially in the evening and during weekends.

**東京大神宮 – An Authentic Spiritual Retreat Favored by Locals** Tokyo Daijingu is one of Tokyo’s most revered Shinto shrines, known especially for enmusubi (縁結び) – prayers for love and strong relationships. Founded in 1880 and dedicated to the sun goddess Amaterasu, it was the first shrine in Tokyo to offer traditional Shinto weddings. Unlike some of the city’s more tourist-heavy shrines, this is where **locals come for sincere prayer and reflection**. Be sure to **toss a coin** (usually a 5-yen coin for good luck) at the main hall, bow twice, clap twice, make your wish, and bow once more respectfully. If you have old amulets or bracelets from previous shrine visits, there’s a dedicated place here to **return them respectfully** for ritual recycling – a thoughtful Shinto practice. For a deeper experience, you can **write a personal wish (ema) on a wooden plaque** – each for 5000 yen – which will be included in a special blessing ceremony by the priests. A calm, deeply traditional place perfect for those seeking a more intimate spiritual moment in Tokyo.

The Holy Resurrection Cathedral, also known as Nicholai-do, is a significant place of worship for the Orthodox Church in Japan. Its history is closely tied to Saint Nicholas, who established the cathedral to spread the Orthodox faith from Russia to Japan. This spiritual beacon holds a pivotal role among approximately 60 Orthodox churches in Japan. The cathedral's exterior is magnificent and visitors can enter by paying or donating 300 yen.

Mick J — Google review
The church looks well designed and well maintained. It was an interesting place to visit for somebody who is from a primarily Orthodox country. I give 4 stars because the visiting hours are too short and because it is necessary to pay a donation to go inside. Its such an unorthodox concept for an orthodox church.
Marko S — Google review
A nice orthodox cathedral in the centre of Tokyo. Although they took most of the religious icons and representations from the Russians, they didn't do a very good job in copying them in my opinion... The time we visited, they were performing a nice service in Japanese which was interesting.
Evelyn K — Google review
A stunning piece of architecture and peace in the city, you feel that it is more than a cathedral, the Byzantine style design and dome are striking and make it stand out in the middle of modern Tokyo. It's peaceful and solemn inside, offering a nice place to reflect or learn more about Orthodox Christianity in Japan. Staff and volunteers are welcoming, even if you're not religious, it's worth a visit for the architecture and cultural history, and I would recommend to visit on palm Sunday, and Easter to get the full experience🙏🏻

As an orthodox Christian, i was surprised to feel this was my favorite church and service to visit in the world, even in a far away and foreign country. The people working here are very caring and professional to the liturgy and I felt right at home. I will miss Tokyo now even more because of this wonderful church.

My wife is Catholic, I am orthodox. The church “had” a book store, and was open at one. My wife went in to take a look as it was “open” and they said no photos allowed, I’ve been to dozens of Orthodox Cathedrals in my life and not a single one has basically charged someone to go in, and not one I’ve been to didn’t allow photos. The JOC needs to figure this out, as the Saint the cathedral is dedicated to is an amazing Saint, and I believe his relics are even there

Sushi Yuu, located in Roppongi, Tokyo, offers a traditional sushi dining experience known for its extensive three-hour meal. The menu features a variety of dishes such as sake, sashimi, crab and uni rolls, fried ayu fish, and grilled octopus. The restaurant is conveniently situated near public transportation and allows bookings up to a month in advance. With only ten counter seats available, guests can enjoy watching Chef Daisuke meticulously prepare each course while engaging with them.
SushiYuu is an excellent choice for anyone looking to experience high-quality sushi in Tokyo (especially for foreigners). The entire staff is fluent in English, making the experience welcoming and accessible. They are also happy to answer any questions about the menu, ingredients, and preparation, which adds a great educational aspect to the meal. For those new to this level of sushi dining, this is a fantastic place to start. The chefs are not only skilled but also open to sharing their craft, making the experience engaging and memorable. I highly recommend reserving a spot in advance to ensure seating at the counter, where you can watch the sushi master prepare each piece with precision. The Omakase meal is 23,000 yen (excluding drinks), which is well worth it for the outstanding flavors and top-tier sushi quality. An unforgettable dining experience, highly recommended!

So good I went twice! Daisuke is a wonderful sushi master and host. You’ll find that many people come here from word of mouth. Recommendations from other friends around the world. You can now add me to that list of advocates. This is an omakase restaurant so you’ll be served by Daisuke himself over multiple courses… who will make his way around the 12 seats or so. There are a couple of private rooms I believe, but the counter is where I’d recommend you sit. You’ll then get to interact with Daisuke and the other patrons. As for the food, all of it is fresh from that morning with every single piece and course being better than the last. The core items (like tuna) will remain the same but they will mix it up depending on what is fresh that day. The drinks menu is Japanese and thorough… no menu per se, so just ask. I had beer, whisky high ball and hot sake… all good! Price wise… it’s omakase so not cheap. With the number of courses, the quality and the service I’d still consider it great value. I’ll return when I’m next back in Tokyo!!!

From start to finish Daisuke delivers an outstanding experience. We learned about and tasted many different types of sushi and the dessert was delicious too. I will be sending all my friends to his restaurant for sure. Daisuke is the man!

I went here during my Japan trip in April. The food was phenomenal, the explanations for each dish were lovely, the atmosphere of the place was great. I was able to make quite a few friends during this tasting as I was alone. I looked around for a while searching for a good omakase and I am beyond happy I chose this place, will definitely go back. The drinks were lovely and I loved trialing the different Tunas.

Spellbinding sushi experience! The food and atmosphere are exactly what you are looking for when you’re thinking about really good sushi. Daisuke is Chef/Owner/Host and he delivers again and again. Bring a solid appetite as you’re going eat well. Try some saki and the Suntory Masters Dream beer that is really good. Daisuke will handle the rest. If you’re going with a mixed crowd, vegan, or finicky sushi eater- don’t worry you will be catered to and made most welcome by this master sushi Chef and his group. Really delivers here. Enjoy a night out here you won’t regret it.

We came here on a recommendation from a friend and were so glad we did - this is the best omakase we had on our trip and the most delicious sushi we've ever had. There is a LOT of food, so please come hungry. The staff is all very friendly and fluent in English, so they took time to explain all the dishes and origins. The highlight was definitely the tuna prepared four ways from leanest to fattiest - super delicious and so interesting to learn a bit more about tuna! *Unfortunately, we came here after a horrible case of food poisoning a few days ago and were just recovering - this was actually the first post-food poisoning meal we could have and I was still feeling a touch nauseous so I wasn't able to eat a much as I normally do, which I felt super badly about (so sorry, chefs!). However, they were very kind about it and made smaller sushi bites for me (as you can see in photos). This just means we will NEED to come back next time we are in Tokyo!
Hugo K — Google review
I’m aware that there are better and more expensive omakase places, but I really enjoy the whole experience here. I like the diversity of the sushi they have here, and the tuna and yam was interesting. The owner is really attentive and friendly. We came as a group of 3, when I said I would like no wasabi and one of my friends said he wanted less wasabi, the chef immediately made it accordingly. The overall experience is great, and it’s definitely a must try if you like omakase. Reservation (can be weeks in advance) is a must.

This church has a beautiful architecture. Relatively small, but you can feel the presence of God in this church. This place is appointed by The Archdiocese of Tokyo as one of Jubilee 2025 pilgrimage sites. I was confused when I was there, and I asked the secretariat for help, and she helped me with her kindness. For the handicapped, there is a ramp available for entrance to the church, but the mechanism is a little bit complicated.

An impressive architectural masterpiece! This is a diocesan church named after St Francis Xavier, one of the first companions of St Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus, whose members are known as Jesuits. The present pope, Pope Francis, is a Jesuit. This church has only 350 parishioners. The stained glass windows are equally impressive.

I want to my Jubilee pilgrimage 2025. It is a very beautiful place that inspired spirituality , this church is dedicated to Francisco Xavier who came to Japan before even being canonized as a saint, so you're familiar to Japanese Catholic history or the hidden Christians of Nagasaki or if you read Silence by Shusaku Endo or saw the movie versio o Martin Scorsese you will relate to San Francisco Javier mission in Japan. I was fortunate enough to go on a Friday morning when they were celebrating Mass and partake of the Eucharist. I particularly liked the natural acoustic, the unique relics, the tasteful design of the stained glass and the spacious benches with kneelers which are quite rare these days.

The Old Cathedral of St. Joseph, Tokyo's first Catholic Church established in 1877, has a fascinating history and underwent renovations for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. The church currently holds mass services once a week and may see potential changes in the future. Its Greek-style wooden pillars reminiscent of the Parthenon contribute to its unique appeal. Visitors can admire the statue of St.
This is the oldest and survived Catholic Church in Tokyo first built in 1874. It was a Cathedral until 1920. It is noted that 50 Catholics were killed for their belief in Edo( now Tokyo) in 1623. There must be older Catholic churches in Tokyo. There is a concise exhibition in the right of the main entrance showing the difficult time for the Catholics before this church was established.

A nice little parish that was very welcoming to visitors. Mass was in Japanese, but there were guides with Japanese romaji, English and Tagalog and it wasn't hard to follow along. The priest repeated several prayers and the homily in English after saying them in Japanese. Everyone seemed friendly, and we enjoyed seeing their historic building and collection of items from Catholic history in Japan. Would definitely go again if I'm ever in Tokyo!

This beautiful church is not big, but it has simple and awesome architecture. It has small museum at the corner that explain about the history of christianity in Japan and about the Tsukiji church itself. It is also chosen by the Archdiocese of Tokyo as one of the Jubilee 2025 pilgrimate sites. There is a western style bell next to the main gate. The church has wooden floor, so be careful to not make some noise here.

A wonderful church steeped in the echoes of countless prayers of the many who have worshipped here. This is also an appointed Church of the Holy Doors of Jubilee year 2025 under the Archdiocese of Tokyo While not grand, it’s very simplicity and the solemn atmosphere induce a feeling of warmth and prayerfulness. The little chairs in front of the statue of the Sacred Heart to the of the altar indicate how children are early on encouraged in prayers at this church. The little history corner in a little room is full of educational and interesting tidbits about Catholicism in Japan with anecdotes about how they hid the Blessed Virgin’s image under the guise of a deity
Marie C — Google review
This modest yet historically significant church, with a seating capacity of approximately 200, served as Tokyo's first and only Catholic cathedral until 1920. A small section of the church is designated as a historical museum.
Andrew B — Google review
The church celebrates its 150th anniversary this year. In preparation for Christmas, there are two concerts planned. See brochures for details. The concerts are really good and provide a welcoming atmosphere for Christmas. As in all Catholic Churches, the church provides a peaceful environment for interaction with God among its worshippers. Accessible via a 5-8min walk from Tsukiji Station (exit 3B) on the Hibiya Line and a must visit if you plan a day visiting the Tsukiji Fish Market and a walk around the area.

Nihonkirisuto Kyodan Hongo Central Church is a striking Gothic-style Methodist church that stands out with its standout-white exterior. This registered Tangible Cultural Property is renowned for its classic organ, which immediately captures the attention upon entering the chapel. Although general entry is prohibited, the prominent location of this 1929-built church makes it easily identifiable.

The first pipe organ in Japan was brought to this church by Welsh musician Edward Gauntlett. This historic church also appears in Natsume Soseki's novel "Sanshiro". I only saw it while passing by, so I don't have any photos of the inside. It seems that you can only visit the inside during times when there are no services and when there is someone to guide you. Ando Memorial Church is situated in the embassy district of Azabujuban, and its exterior is adorned with lush vines, giving it the appearance of a hut nestled in a jungle. The founder, Tadao Ando, who was once the Japanese ambassador to Hawaii, has left his mark on this unique church. Visitors can explore the Oya stone chapel and admire Ogawa Michi's stunning stained glass.
(Translated by Google) Ando Memorial Church is located just off the five-way intersection of Minami-Azabu and Sendai Sakagami. The small chapel seems to be a historical building, so I received an explanation of the details of the building from an architect friend. The exterior is covered with ivy in summer, making it very impressive. At the time I visited, the attached kindergarten was just getting out of school, so parents were waiting in line in the garden to pick them up. When I told the gentle-looking woman standing near the church entrance that I had come all the way to see this building, she opened the door for me and asked me to come inside. All the lights in the empty chapel were turned on, and although they were out of pamphlets, I was politely asked to come next time the pastor was there, and I left the building in a good mood. With an altar in the northwest-northwest, stained glass on the southeast-southeast gable, and a penthouse that doubles as an entrance hall at the southwest-west corner, the church employs timber-framed stone construction, developed in the early Meiji period, with Oya stone stacked on a Western-style wooden framework, and Komatsu stone used in key areas such as the buttresses and drains. The surface of the soft gray-green Oya stone (tuff from Tochigi Prefecture) is engraved with the powerful "pickaxe marks" characteristic of stone from the hand-excavation period (Edo period to the 1950s). St. Paul - Catholic Asakusa Church houses a statue of St. Peter, which survived the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923 and serves as a reminder of the catastrophe. Unlike most Catholic churches in Tokyo, it is only open before Sunday masses, but visitors can still offer prayers outside if they arrive at other times. The church is located about 1km from the nearest station and offers an English mass on the fourth Sunday of each month at 2:30 PM.
church was small but peaceful and beautiful still. i found this wanting to visit a Catholic church here in japan and i went to a japanese mass since i won’t be able to attend the sunday one (i went on a friday.) there were 7 other people, it was 30 minutes long as a weekend mass is. even though i understood none of it, i enjoyed it. and the people were very kind. the Mother Mary statue outside was like the church: small but beautiful. would recommend highly :) there are also pamphlets one in english about the history of the church, and also a postcard that i took.

A rather plain and austere exterior set in small but very green garden surprises with one of the most welcoming churches I’ve ever entered as a practicing Catholic. As soon as you enter the church, a most warm and welcoming feeling envelops one starting with the welcome sign by the door to the lobby as you enter. It helps that the parish priest is all smiles and welcome demeanor too. The chapel itself is simply but beautifully appointed giving off again a warm and welcoming vibe. We also dropped in at the most opportune time because English masses are celebrated here every 3rd Sunday of the month at 2:30pm.

The parishioners are friendly and helpful. It’s a very small church, so do try to come early to get a seat. They have English pamphlets to help you follow along with their Japanese masses.

We went to the Japanese Mass at 10 am on Sunday. With the help of Google translate, we could understand part of the homily which was good. Some parishers were very kind and gave us a pamphlet on the history of the church. There's a stone plate at the back of the church to commemorate the beheading of 28 Japanese martyrs who "did not succumb to the Shogunate's persecution and maintained a pure heart for God".Praise to the Lord!

Yotsuya Station is a bustling transportation hub located in the heart of the city. It features multiple gates both around and across the station, which can be a bit confusing at first, but visitors will eventually get the hang of it. The station tends to get crowded due to its central location, but it's worth exploring for its variety of shops and restaurants. One unique feature is the presence of station booths for quick office work, as well as English signage for easy navigation.
The iconic frames from Your Name (Kimi no Nawa) are at the far right (station sign, currently under construction as of 2024) when you exit from Akasaka Exit 1, and the immediate left down the bridge from that same exit.

The JR Office at this station told my group we needed to book our Shinkansen tickets at the Tokyo station. Yotsuya holds its breath between hills and history — stone walls guard stories of samurai and scholars, while university bells drift above the tracks. Beneath cherry blossoms, time folds into itself; the Marunouchi Line pauses here as if to listen to the city remembering. Tourist Tip: Stop for a peaceful walk in Sotobori Park or the Sophia University area, especially in cherry blossom season.

Yotsuya station has different gates around the station and also across it, on the other side of the road. So in this sense, yes, it can get confusing, especially if you don’t know which side of the station you are in since the train is long and if you happen to be on the “wrong” end compared to where you should be, then you might just get lost by exiting at the wrong gate. Eventually you will figure it out though. Hopefully easily XD

The Franciscan Chapel Center, also known as Roppongi Catholic Church, is a beautiful Roman Catholic church located in Tokyo near Roppongi station. It is run by Franciscan monks and offers multiple English mass timeslots on Sundays. The community feel at the church is strong, with friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere for newcomers. The Christmas Eve and Christmas day masses are particularly special, providing a beautiful experience for those looking to pray and celebrate the holiday season.

A very warm and welcoming parish community, led by Fr Clifford. I attended the Sat sunset mass here and was grateful for the opportunity to receive Christ during my time in Tokyo. Father also hears confession before mass. I also appreciated the choir who sang beautifully. Father gave a thoughtful homily which not only broke the Word but also got me to reflect. Overall, a spiritual experience.

Stepping into the Franciscan Chapel Center in Roppongi was like discovering a hidden oasis amidst the vibrant, ceaseless energy of Tokyo. I was so incredibly happy to find a place where I could truly find peace and solitude to pray, especially in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Roppongi. The location itself is surprisingly accessible yet feels wonderfully set apart from the commercial clamor. As soon as I entered, a profound sense of calm washed over me. The chapel, while not overly grand, is beautifully maintained and exudes a welcoming, reverent atmosphere. The soft lighting, the quiet hum of serenity, and the sense of devotion from those present all contribute to an environment that truly fosters reflection and prayer. It's a testament to this place that, even in one of the most bustling districts of Tokyo, you can find such genuine tranquility. For anyone seeking a quiet space for spiritual contemplation, whether for Mass or just a moment of personal prayer, the Franciscan Chapel Center is an absolute gem. It's a truly invaluable resource for both locals and visitors alike, offering a much-needed respite from the urban rush. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a spiritual anchor in the heart of the city.

Brought my wife and 3 children to mass on a business trip to Japan. The mass felt like a Disney on Ice performance. It was really strange. I’ve never felt this way about any mass in any country throughout the world. Also, as we entered, some ladies separated my family and a few friends we were with and made us sit in the spot designated for families only. The moment my 4 year old made any sort of noise during mass, I could see and feel the tension of these parishioner ladies who you could tell just wanted us to leave. They then gave in to the pressure and asked us to enter this random kids room where you can watch the mass live while kids run around, play with toys and read books. Very very strange. Then I happened to walk past the priest right after mass and he didn’t even pretend to be nice to us and kind of ignored our ‘good morning’. We went to St Ignatius parish the following Sunday. Some similarities in terms of random lay women taking their volunteer jobs too seriously by instructing us where we can/can’t sit. But at least St Ignatius church stuck to the order of the mass and weren’t interested in a Disney performance.

(Translated by Google) Today was my first time attending a service at this church. There is an entrance when you go up the stairs, and a reception desk when you go inside. At the reception desk, you can receive a weekly report (a program that describes the flow of worship) and a printout of the Bible passages to be read during today's worship. You can get something to read during the service at the reception, and hymns are placed in front of your seats, so I don't think it's a problem if you come empty-handed. Worship begins with a hymn, and everyone in attendance reads the Psalms and the Lord's Prayer, sings a hymn, and reads the Bible. Then, the pastor will preach on today's Bible passage. The flow of the worship service is a typical Protestant church style, so if you attend the service at this church, you will be able to understand what a Protestant church is like. The inside of the synagogue is quite spacious, with seating up to the second floor, making it large enough for many people to attend. In fact, many people attended today's service. I got the impression that the church was large, as it was located in a prime location in Tokyo. Also, there were about 7 people, including myself, who attended the church service for the first time today. It may have been a coincidence, but I got the impression that there were a lot of new visitors. I think this is a church that is easy for people to attend, including those who come from far away to the Ginza area for business.

(Translated by Google) First of all, I should state that I'm not a Christian. So why did I go out of my way to visit a Protestant church? Well, it was for personal reasons. Small churches don't often have a pastor or priest on site, and it's not uncommon for them to be closed, but this one is located in the heart of Ginza, so it's always open. I'm sure that just seeing the Ginza bell next to the entrance would make a believer's heart flutter. Now, going up to the second floor, the small chapel is immediately on the left. Apparently, Sunday school and other classes are held here. The main chapel is on the third floor. Because it's in the heart of Ginza and is part of a building, it feels a little cramped, but it can accommodate about 300 people at full capacity. Currently, seats are spaced out, so the capacity is about half that, around 150 people. That's all I learned from the guide. Because it's so large, a guide will accompany you, so if you have any questions, why not stop by?

A great little stand serving good speciality coffee. Takeout only, but with a great variety of drip and espresso options. And you can buy beans too!!

Tiny coffee stand with good coffee bean selection. Coffee is delicious, bean available for sale. Small bench at front for 2 people. Good service. Best for grab and go.

Super cool little stand pop-out serving unreal coffee in the city. Must try.

While cafe hopping, I stumbled upon this place. It seems to be a coworking space that would be popular with the local workers in the area. I can say that it would be if it were brought over to where I'm from. You can order your coffee from the side window. It seems like you can sit inside if you ask. I got a latte and it was heavier on the coffee side than the milky side.

It was a quick takeout, but I was satisfied with the friendly and courteous service and the well-balanced and delicious cafe latte. (The canelé that came with it was also good.) Since I did not use the inside of the store, I gave the atmosphere a rating of 3, A simple and spacious space, Looks like it would be good for using a PC while drinking coffee. Personally, before going to a nearby movie theater, etc. A coffee shop that I would like to stop by again. *This photo was taken with the permission of the barista. Suidobashi Station is conveniently located near Tokyo Dome, a popular entertainment venue in downtown Tokyo. The area attracts a diverse crowd including thrill-seekers, sports enthusiasts, students, and music fans. Notably, the Dome is home to the Yomiuri Giants, Tokyo's beloved baseball team. With its proximity to Korakuen Station and various attractions, Suidobashi Station serves as a gateway for visitors looking to experience the vibrant atmosphere of this bustling area.

(Translated by Google) Suidobashi Station on the Toei Mita Line is also served by the JR Sobu Line, and its greatest appeal is its extremely convenient access to major stations in central Tokyo. As it's the closest station to Tokyo Dome, it gets very crowded during events like baseball games and concerts, but is relatively quiet at other times. The area around the station is home to universities, office buildings, and Tokyo Dome City, with plenty of restaurants and shopping facilities. The station is also barrier-free (elevators, etc.), making it easy to use. While the crowds during events can be a bit of a drawback, overall it's a station that's "satisfying" considering its convenience.

If you're going to Tokyo Dome⚾️ or Korakuen Hall🥊, it seems that Suidobashi Station on the Toei Mita Line is closer than the JR line.
