The Church of Our Lady, located in Bruges, Belgium, is a stunning example of Gothic architecture with a soaring tower that reaches 115.6 meters high. Dating back to the 13th century, it holds great historical and artistic significance. The church is home to several notable art pieces, including Michelangelo's 'Madonna and Child,' a rare work that left Italy during the artist's lifetime.
A trip to Bruges usually conjures images of colourful centuries old buildings, the most popular of which are found in The Markt or Market Square. However, for my 2nd visit to the city, I requested a friend to bring me to the statue of the "Madonna of Bruges" located in the Church of Our Lady. This Michelangelo sculpture was prominently featured in the movie "Monuments Men" as one of the art treasures looted by Nazi Germany. The moment I entered the church, I was super excited as it has been on my bucket list since 2014. To pay homage to the Virgin Mary is part of the Devotion of a Catholic. To see the sculpture of Michelangelo is an art lover's cherished desire. To be near an object with historical significance is top wish for every student of history. Thus, it was truly a dream fulfilled for me to see the Madonna. The Church of Our Lady (Dutch: Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk) is a Roman Catholic church  in Bruges, Belgium, dating mainly from the 13th, 14th and 15th centuries. Its 115.6-metre-high (379 ft) tower remains the tallest structure in the city and the third tallest brickwork  tower in the world. The tower can be nicely seen from the canals during a boat tour. Just like in any gothic church, the interior is splendid. The stained-glass windows are beautiful with ornate decorations and with a sense of mystery. I was surprised to see open burial stone coffins with paintings or markings inside. Truly bizarre. In contrast, the ornately decorated resting places of Mary of Burgundy and her father were pleasant surprises. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, especially for Catholics, lovers of history, and the arts. #CatholicChurch #Bruges #Belgium #MadonnaOfBruges #Michelangelo

Stepping inside this church is an awe-inspiring experience. The scale of the architecture is simply breathtaking, with soaring ceilings and a real sense of historic grandeur. The church is filled with incredible works of art, from masterpiece paintings to intricate sculptures. The stained-glass windows are particularly beautiful, filling the space with colored light and creating a truly peaceful atmosphere. A must-visit for anyone who appreciates history, art, and stunning architecture.

Amazing artwork - paintings, exquisitely carved wooden pulpit and confessionals and the treasure of Bruges, Madonna and Child. Worth every penny to get into the paid area. Even if you are not strongly religious, the artwork is awe inspiring and worth it for the history and the beauty.

Beautiful church. Peaceful when you visit. Nice well maintained architecture. No ticket needed. Good place to take photo of whole church are on the museum close by. Enjoy !

This is a must-see see church when visiting Bruges. The church is famous for housing a Michelangelo sculpture of Madonna with child. Entrance into the church is free but you have to purchase a ticket to view the sculpture. The church tower is the tallest structure in the city and 3rd tallest brick tower in the world. Take time to admire the flying butresses that support the massive tower.
Richard T — Google review
One of the most exquisite Gothic churches I've visited. I also appreciated seeing their impressive art collection both old and new.
Irma Z — Google review
This is one of Bruges’ most iconic landmarks and a masterpiece of Gothic architecture. Its soaring brick tower, reaching 115.5 meters (379 feet), is the tallest structure in Bruges and one of the tallest brick towers in the world. Construction began in the 13th century and continued for two centuries, resulting in a harmonious blend of architectural styles. The church is especially famous for housing Michelangelo’s Madonna and Child, the only one of his sculptures to have left Italy during his lifetime. Inside, visitors can also admire ornate altarpieces, medieval tombs of Burgundy nobility, and beautiful stained-glass windows. The tombs of Charles the Bold and Mary of Burgundy are particularly noteworthy for their historical and artistic significance. The Church of Our Lady is both a spiritual sanctuary and an artistic treasure, offering insight into the religious and cultural richness of medieval Bruges.
Tiago C — Google review
Beautiful and iconic church to visit while in Bruges. A rare opportunity to see a sculpture created by Michelangelo. The details in the Madonna of Bruges marble sculpture are astonishing! You will pay €6 per adult to see the sculpture but it is worth the opportunity. The church is in a beautiful location and near the most popular tourist locations.

The Basilica of the Holy Blood, located in Bruges, is a renowned minor basilica that is famous for housing a phial believed to contain a cloth stained with Jesus Christ's blood. This 12th-century Romanesque basilica is situated in the Burg, an architectural center of Bruges. The basilica features an ornate reliquary and a double-spired chapel, making it one of the most well-known Christian places of worship in the city.
STUNNING!!!! There is a long line for people who want to kneel before the vial containing the relic of the Holy Blood, a phial believed to hold a cloth with the blood of Jesus Christ. The relic is presented on a reliquary and can only be viewed by visitors at specific times, often following a veneration ceremony. I didn't realize this was happening on the day/time I visited. But if you want to only see the basilica it is easy to get in and see the stunning ceiling.
Irma Z — Google review
If you just looked at it from the outside, it’s kind of dark. It’s kinda old. It’s kind of scary. But inside, is a beautiful piece! Visiting the Basilica of the Holy Blood is a two-part experience. The lower chapel, dedicated to St. Basil, is a striking contrast to the upper one. It's a rare example of Romanesque architecture in the region, featuring a dark, somber atmosphere with heavy pillars and stone vaulting. Climbing the staircase leads you to the vibrant upper chapel, a dazzling display of colorful Gothic and Neo-Gothic art. This ornate space is breathtaking, with intricate stained glass windows, rich tapestries, and beautiful paintings. The main attraction is the revered relic of the Holy Blood, housed in a magnificent golden reliquary. The transition from the austere lower chapel to the glittering upper chapel creates a powerful and memorable journey.
Steven C — Google review
It’s easy to miss the Basilica of the Holy Blood, as it’s tucked away in a corner of Burg Square. The basilica has two chapels: a lower chapel and an upper chapel. The lower chapel, dedicated to St. Basil the Great, is a beautiful example of Romanesque architecture that has remained largely unchanged for centuries. The upper chapel is built in the Gothic style and was renovated in the 19th century, offering a stunning contrast to the simpler, historic lower level. Admission to both chapels is free, making it an accessible and rewarding stop. Adjacent to the basilica is a small museum (entrance fee €5) that traces the fascinating history of the chapel and the relic of the Holy Blood. In my opinion, this is an absolute must-see when visiting Bruges—a place where history, art, and spirituality come together in a remarkable way.
Adrian V — Google review
Visiting the Basilica of the Holy Blood was one of the most emotional and memorable moments of my trip. Nestled on the historic Burg Square, this church may look modest from the outside, but once you step inside, it reveals an atmosphere filled with reverence, history, and beauty that truly takes your breath away. I felt incredibly special and grateful to be there. to stand in such a sacred space and even take a quiet moment to pray for something deeply personal. The basilica consists of two chapels: the lower Romanesque chapel of Saint Basil the Great, built in the 12th century, and the upper Gothic chapel, which was later renovated in the 19th century with vibrant paintings and intricate decorations. The church is believed to house a precious relic of the Holy Blood of Jesus Christ, brought to Bruges from the Holy Land around 1150 by Count Thierry of Alsace after the Second Crusade. This relic is displayed in an ornate vial, and during certain times of the day, visitors can approach it closely to pay their respects or say a prayer. The interior is breathtaking, richly painted arches, colorful mosaics, and stained-glass windows that glow with biblical scenes when sunlight filters through. The details on the wooden ceiling and the patterns on the columns are exquisite; every corner seems to tell a story. I couldn’t help but feel humbled and moved, surrounded by centuries of faith and devotion. Even though it’s a popular site, people speak softly, adding to the peaceful, sacred feeling of the place. It’s not just a historical monument, it’s a space where you can truly feel a connection to something timeless and spiritual. Visiting this basilica was a profound and unforgettable experience.
Chlochlo — Google review
This Basilica is amazingly calm and peaceful. Whether you’re religious or not, you can feel it in the ambience. The relic was on display at 12pm, after the 11AM mass downstairs. (My husband and I attended on a Wednesday.) The stuff are nice and friendly. You can take pictures of the Chapel but not of the relic. Come & pray, and be respectful. This is such a sacred place ❤️

My family and me Visited from Florida, USA. The Basilica of the Holy Blood is absolutely beautiful and peaceful. It’s a stunning Roman Catholic church in Bruges that holds a relic of the Holy Blood, which makes the experience even more meaningful. A must-see when exploring the city!
Carolina J — Google review
This small basilica is located in Bruges, Belgium. It's claim to fame is the fact that it is alleged to house a vial of Christ's blood which is on display. The Church itself is beautiful with it's medieval decor. It can be regarded as an important stop for those interested in religious history.

Sint-Salvatorskathedraal, also known as Saint Saviours Cathedral, is a Gothic masterpiece located in the heart of Old Town. This 1300s cathedral boasts a mighty tower and cavernous interior adorned with noted Flemish art. Inside, visitors can marvel at unique organs, historic tombs, and a rich collection of Flemish paintings. The cathedral's Neo-Romanesque and Gothic architecture is complemented by tall stained glass windows and beautiful side gardens.
Amazing architecture, great interior and such huge cathedral. One can see paining dated back 1625 and so. Altar is fantastic too. Great stained window patterns and very nice ceiling and chandeliers add beauty to the church . Light choir playing in a ground makes the surroundings more divine . A must visit place !

This church is well worth the time to visit. In addition to the beautiful architecture and stained glass, they have a large collection of art and a museum. There is not an entry fee. The original parts of the building were built in the late 1200s.

Absolutely beautiful cathedral. Parts of it almost felt like being in an art gallery as there are lots of old works of art. Also of interest are the splendid stained glass windows, which were particularly vibrant on this sunny day, and the memorial stones. Free to visit but donations appreciated, even if donate via lighting a candle.

I have been there on Saturday and there was no entrance fee! The inside is both art and history museum! Definitely worth visiting! The voluntary worker was quite friendly and extremely eager to help me to learn about the Cathedral and art pieces in it.

As a five organist I was very happy to walk into happen to hear a full recital which sounded very nice from the new pipe organ near the entrance. I noticed also a second one on the side so at least two pipe organs in this church another one had three pretty neat, pretty impressive and the church is nice as well

Another beautiful cathedral in the centre of Gent. Amazing architecture and richly adorned. The pulpit (at least I think it was the pulpit) in itself is quite incredible. Free to enter

Sint-Annakerk is a charming church located on a serene square in Bruges. Despite its unassuming exterior, the interior boasts exquisite Baroque architecture, adorned with beautiful art, intricate wood paneling, and a striking marble rood screen. Unlike other churches in the area, Sint-Annakerk is meticulously maintained, evident from the polished brass fittings. Visitors can admire captivating paintings and tapestries within this tranquil setting.
From the outside, this church doesn't seem so special, but inside you are welcomed with beautiful art. Interesting painting and intriguing architecture. Worth a visit!

The Groeninge Museum, located in the charming town of Bruges, is a treasure trove for art enthusiasts. It boasts an extensive collection of Flemish primitive artworks, 18th and 19th-century pieces, and modern works. The museum is built on the site of the medieval Eekhout Abbey and showcases masterpieces by renowned Flemish painters such as Jan Van Eyck, Hugo van der Goes, and Lancelot Blondeel.
Loved our visit to the museum! Lots of Flemish paintings in the collection, and a section at the end about the Book of Hours. To follow along the rooms I recommend scanning the QR code before you enter the museum which provides a digital tour of each room in your preferred language. You can click on each painting in each room and it’ll give you a comprehensive explanation of the painting or the artist. We spent around 1.5 hours here doing the self guided tour.
Tanya G — Google review
Very nice art museum with an interesting exhibit about medieval books. Lacked a bit of variety because you can only see so many paintings of Jesus on the cross before it gets boring. The highlight for me the Boschs tryptic. Stunning. Overall for the price it was pretty good.
Brendan S — Google review
A museum of the history of Flamish art starting with the primitive artist until today. A must see in Bruges if only for the Jan van Eyck masterpiece! Very well organized, flows chronological from room to room, with good description for the period and the highlilighted pieces.
George O — Google review
Lovely museums with very friendly staff and incredible collections. After a busy day enjoying Bruges with its beautiful canals and old buildings, this is such a nice and quiet escape from the crowd. It might not be as big as other big museums in Belgium but I still feel like it’s one of those that is worth to visit.

I had the best time visiting the Groeninge Museum today. Epic masterpieces and so many of the fun creepy depictions of demons from the renaissance art that keep you guessing. The audio guide was helpful and they have a great gift shop with postcards and trinkets from the collection. Would recommend if visiting Bruges!

A small yet truly remarkable collection of paintings. The staff were incredibly friendly and really enhanced the experience. The entire venue is laid out in a clear and logical manner, so you never feel confused or overwhelmed. It's simple to navigate through the exhibition and genuinely appreciate each piece without feeling drained. A fantastic place to view works by Flemish artists in a quiet, well-organized environment.

Saint John’s Hospital, located across the street from the Church of Lady, is a museum housed in one of Europe's oldest preserved hospitals. The museum recently reopened with a new exhibition showcasing 900 years of care and hospitality. It features an extensive collection of paintings by Flemish primitive painter Hans Memling, as well as contemporary art by various artists. The hospital displays medieval surgical instruments alongside religious artworks and offers insight into its history as a place for pilgrims and travelers in need of medical attention.
The Old St. John’s Hospital in Bruges truly caught my attention with its fascinating history and unique architecture. It also houses a historic pharmacy museum, adding to its charm. This ancient hospital complex offers a captivating glimpse into medieval medical care
Uğur A — Google review
The building was beautiful and hard to bel it was a hospital in it's day. More like a church (part of it was a monastery and the hospital was 'staffed' by nuns 100s of years ago. A lot of the displays were of art pieces from the time with a some amount of info relating to the care of patients. Well presented, though and an audio guide was available. Purchased a ticket that included the apothecary.
Heather M — Google review
I was supported by kind staff during a sudden nosebleed, of which the volume could be demonstrated from the elevator scene from the shining. Regardless, the kind staff rescued me by fast tracking me to a neighbouring museum to access the toilet and sink. The museum was also worth visiting, with an excellent exhibition.

Gorgeous old building featuring beautiful courtyard that makes you feel like you've been transported back to medieval times. The price is reasonable for the experience you receive. The exhibits are well-organized, and the stories behind them are really engaging - the hospitality theme and the layout of the exhibition guide you easily . And let's not forget the star of the place, Memling. The pieces are truly remarkable, and just the collection itself is worth the trip.

Market Square, located in the heart of Bruges, is a bustling traffic-free square that underwent renovations in 1996. The square is home to the impressive 13th-century Belfry and surrounded by other captivating buildings such as the Provincial Palace and a statue honoring heroes from the Battle of the Golden Spurs. Visitors can also enjoy delicious fried potatoes from nearby vendors.
I visited Market Square in Belgium and found it to be a truly beautiful place. The architecture is stunning, and the overall atmosphere is very welcoming. There was an event happening when I went, which made the visit even more enjoyable. I joined briefly, and there were a few fun things to see and do. It’s a great mix of history, culture, and local life. Highly recommended if you're in town.

A beautiful and historically important place. The Grote Markt is lined with beautiful medieval buildings. There are a lot of restaurants and cafes around. You can also just stay in the square and amaze at the buildings and soak up the atmosphere. But beware, you will not be alone here as the square is packed with people - even in low season - it is never quiet here. A must visit place when in Bruges.

Remarkably interesting church and museum. We got a great tip on an evening walking tour, which enticed us back to visit the next morning. Beautiful and captivating church and very informative self tour. Highly recommend and we'll surely be back

The best hidden gem of Bruges! We found out about it during our night tour. A private chapelle from the 15 century, always owned by the same family for 17 generations. Quiet and majestic, with an interesting history that is presented in a small museum

Anselm Adorne was a complete renaissance man, a mover and shaker, who travelled from Genoa to Scotland to Bruges to Jerusalem . He's a major character in Dorothy Dunnet's Nicolo series. We were delighted by the maps, artifacts and descriptions. Then we had coffees sitting in Anselm's garden.

Beautiful Family domain and private church, full of history and maintained thru several generations. Visited at least three time while visiting Bruges, brought my sister and her husband too and they were impressed. One of the quiet nice places to visit in town!

If our host is to be believed, this is the only privately owned church in Bruges (run by the 17th generation of the original family who built it!) - we almost missed it but are so glad to have seen this beautifully preserved place in a city full of history.

Quiet Oasis a short walk from the busy centre. The estate is 17th generation family owned, with a little museum, the Jerusalem chapel and a garden. Around the corner from the lace museum, it's easy to connect visiting both.

Begijnhofkerk Sint-Elisabeth, also known as St. Elisabeth Church, is a serene and tranquil area within the Beguinage in Bruges. It serves as a religious center and offers a peaceful escape from the bustling city. The church itself, dating back to 1245, features a simple yet charming interior with a central nave and two side chapels.
So intresting place! Turns out Begijnhof is a word for those women whom have decided to live in castity without the formal noun vows. And this place was their home from 1245 Brugge until 1927. So awsome, you will find a place of quiet right here.
Yeyo R — Google review
This area of the city is quiet and peaceful as it is still occupied by a religious order. Audrey Hepburn's "The Nun's Story" was filmed here.

Found this church as we were walking along this peaceful passages. This church is surrounded by trees and quiet atmosphere where one can relax and pray in silence. Very close to the centre of Bruges. It's free to enter the church. A painting of the Visitation of Holy Mary to St Elizabeth is located inside this church.

Step into the enchanting world of Bruges City Hall, a Gothic masterpiece dating back to 1376. Adorned with statues of Flanders counts and countesses, the exterior boasts ornate arches and lavish details. Inside, the Gothic Hall features a stunning neo-Gothic polychrome vaulted ceiling and historic murals from the 19th century. This medieval marvel offers a glimpse into centuries-old council meetings and whispers of history within its grand interior.
It is a nice, big museum, and there are many places to visit in this square. It’s a huge area. There is an entrance fee for the museum, but some places are completely free. Just take a full day to explore. Bruges Town Hall (Stadhuis), one of the oldest in Belgium, dating back to 1376. Its Gothic architecture, stunning vaulted ceiling, and historic murals make it a highlight of the square.

Beautiful building with a rich history. The ground floor has free access. The first floor is paid and also gives you access to the neighbouring building. You get a good historical explanation of Bruges and its port. The staff was super helpful and had good recommendations.
C. C — Google review
SPECTACULAR. Also note this is still an active town hall (it is also Belgium's oldest town hall) and city leaders still meet at the table on the upper floor that I have in one of the photos. It is one of the oldest buildings in the entire region. The city has been governed from here for more than 600 years.
Irma Z — Google review
I'm not commenting just on the City Hall, but Bruges in general. A beautiful historic city. Full of charm and elegance and although part of a bigger tour for my wife and I , a city easily accessible from the UK. We spent two days here exploring the city streets , marvelling at the architecture and culture of the city . The Beer and chocolate has to be sampled but to just take in the sights is pleasure enough .

Such a cool museum! Highly recommend. The medieval architecture is beautiful. There’s a room with a map of the area and video overlays that go through the history from 500 AD to present day of the area. Very cool

For 10 euros the self guided tour is good. You get access to the town hall and a small side room with a 3d projection map of the history of the city. The town hall is absolutely stunning. You are provided a big card to read that described the murals around the hall.

Awesome spot to really get in the vibe of the city. The hall itself is stunning, and there's this AR exhibit that goes deep into the entire history of the city, complete with narration in three languages through headphones. Plus, it's affordable too - totally loved it!

Located in a grand 15th-century residence next to Bruges Cathedral, the Gruuthusemuseum showcases a wide array of historic furniture, sculptures, and tapestries. The exhibits are predominantly labeled in Flemish and include Belgian antique furniture, silk tapestries, and various art pieces. The museum is named after the unique blend of herbs and flowers used to brew traditional Belgian beer known as 'gruut'.
The Gruuthusemuseum is a fantastic, historically interesting, beautiful art filled experience that is attached to the amazing Church of Our Lady next door. The art house here is interesting in the architecture and design is splendid. It’s hard to fathom having so much money that the Catholic Church allows you to build your house adjoining your chosen place of worship, but that’s exactly what happened here. I for one I’m glad that it did. Visiting both of these historical sites on the same day makes perfect sense. This museum and the adjacent church are included on the Bruges city card. To get this card, you can go to any of the places that it gives you access to across the city. Wait to activate the card until you’re ready to go to multiple attractions. The card is 24, 48, or 72 hours depending on the length of your stay and the amount of sightseeing you wish to do. I’ve added lots of photos for your window shoppers out there!

Excellent example of how wealthy landowners and merchants would have lived. Beautifully preserved, multiple floors, and loads of period furniture, artifacts, and exhibits with explanations in English. No elevators may discourage the non-climbers. Don’t miss the restored chapel inside the home on the third floor with the secret windows that overlooks into the church next door. This area allowed attendance in your pajamas without the lower classes noticing.

Fascinating and magnificent museum in the former home of a wealthy brewer in Brugge from the 15thC. It has recently been extensively restored. Great insights (available in several languages including English) on society, business, and lifestyle of the times. It is important to note that there are no elevators that I was aware of so for anyone with mobility issues accessing the higher floors will be difficult.
Irma Z — Google review
So much information to learn about the history and the city of Brugge in this museum. It is well organized and presented professionally. I enjoyed going through all the rooms and reading and seeing century old books like the first city ledgers, the agreements between political heads. All very fascinating. Some of the views from this museum are absolutely magnificent- the balcony has the best view. There is a lot more and if you enjoy history and have the time to peruse all this museum has to offer, 2-3 hours would be sufficient. Take note that the spiral staircases are a little steep and narrow.
Anna M — Google review

Get the Brugelge museum pass! I suggest not getting it until you're ready to dedicate the time for the museums. You can get it at any participating location. Ok this place was AMAZING. Built in the 1400's by the advisor to the king, the family was so wealthy, they had their house connected to the church as well as their own chapel area so they didn't have to leave their house technically. Weird flex, but ok. The artifacts that are kept in this 17 room manorhouse/museum are bar none. Tapestrys, paintings, lace, books, ledgers, coins, pottery, embroidery, statues, silver, you name it! Theres also a part where you can stand on a balcony and have an amazing view! The house itself is magnificent. Well worth a visit.

Not worth the 7€ entry in my opinion. The ‘museum’ ist just a few paintings and things and the church is not among the most beautiful I’ve seen. If it was free or just a few euros, I’d say it’s worth it, but not for that entry fee.

The Provinciaal Hof (Provincial Court) is a grand neo-Gothic building located on the Markt square in Bruges, Belgium. Originally constructed in the late 19th century on the site of the former Cloth Hall, it served as the administrative center for the province of West Flanders. The building’s impressive architecture features intricate stonework, pointed arches, and decorative spires, reflecting the Gothic revival style popular at the time. Inside, it houses elegant meeting rooms and halls that were used for provincial government functions. Though it no longer serves as the seat of government, the Provinciaal Hof remains a significant historical and architectural landmark in Bruges. Its location on the bustling Markt square, near the Belfort, makes it a popular spot for visitors admiring the city’s rich heritage and stunning architecture.

Heilige Magdalenakerk, designed by British architect Thomas Harper King in 1853, embodies neo-Gothic principles. The church offers a deeply spiritual experience and welcomes everyone with open doors, focusing more on humanity than religion. Inside, visitors can find artistic installations, a swing, and a sand pool. Some describe it as less of a traditional place of worship and more of an art and architecture project that changes its interior depending on ongoing exhibitions.
I love these old churches and Brugge doesn’t disappoint with how many they have and their different states. This one is used more as a gallery space, which personally I think is fine. As it still allows you to worship and have meditation if wanted, just in a different non traditional way. The swing makes you feel like you’re almost floating and is really quite special. The people inside seemed friendly and smiling. If this isn’t for you then there are many places of traditional worship around.
Caïna V — Google review
If you're into contemporary art, this is a must-see spot. What I also found interesting is that this is NOT a decommissioned church. Instead, it is described as an "activity-based church" offering contemporary spirituality through art.

The exterior is perfect, but...its not a church, but a home for "installations" and new age stuff that do not have anything to do with Catholicism and/or tradition or art. I was guided to...the toilets which had an abstract....Madonna and child ... Its completely sad that in such a beautiful city with a tradition of centuries and nice museums this situation is accepted, but...welcome to Europe of 2025...

One of the weirdest yet the nicest thing I saw in Brugges. From outside it appears as a normal church but inside... - artistic installations - a wonderful swing - a sand pool Outside there is a statue called "the homeless Jesus". I think that this is not a church anymore but more like an event venue. Absolutely recommended.
Jomin N — Google review
Some people call this the crazy church. It's less of a house of worship and more of an art/architecture project now. The interior changes often, depending on the exhibition that is going on. It's really interesting inside. They have a swinging chair dangling from the ceiling.

Very beautiful inside and many beautiful areas on the outside as well. The staff is so nice and accommodating. They are willing to help you in any way possible. Great experience!

Well organized small museum. Many elegant art works.there are detailed multi-language descriptions for almost all the exhibited art works. 7 euro ticket is well worth. The beautiful sculpture of Michelangelo is as also here, it’s the only sculpture outside Italy in his lifetime. Amazing

Visiting old churches is always worth it when visiting old cities in Europe. The artwork is beautiful. The architecture is beautiful. I do love statues of Jesus, Mary, Joseph and any other saint. It was no cost to visit this church in Bruges.

The museum access allows you to explore the other side of the church. Beautiful Madonna statue.

Church
Jeruzalem Kerk, also known as Jerusalem Church or Chapel, is situated in the Sant Anna Quarter near the Volkskundemuseum. Modeled after the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, it was inspired by the Adornes family's visit to Jerusalem. The interior features a tomb and a relic of the Holy Cross. The church holds a rich history related to the Adornes family and hosts changing exhibitions in an adjoining gallery.
Unique architecture and part of the Adornes Domain in Bruges. Built in the 15th century by Anselm Adornes. The chapel is inspired on the Church of Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. A museum, Almshouses and Scottish lounge are part of this historical site. Certainly worth a visit, take a stroll down the Balstraat and enjoy the impressiveview from the back!
Eveline D — Google review
The Jerusalem Church in Bruges feels less like a historic site and more like a vanity project for a wealthy family. The entry fee isn’t justified by what you get: a narrow look at the family’s story with little context about the time or place they lived in. The church itself is more a shrine to the family than anything religious. The garden is just a plain grass field, nothing special. There was also a temporary exhibit on garden paintings, but it featured cheap reproductions and actual bugs crawling on the canvases. It might look intriguing from the outside, but I wouldn't recommend going in.
Fabian — Google review
It's only partially open at the moment (some restorations are being done). But the chapel is open as are the gardens and you can wander around the complex. The day I was there they had reduced the admission to 5Euro so definitely worth wandering around. And the Sint-Anna Quarter is a fabulous area to explore - very local and while I was there barely a tourist in sight so that's cool too.
Irma Z — Google review
10€ entrance fee and closure on Sundays? This is also not included in the Bruges museum pass! An historical religious temple can't be this expensive, especially these times. It's simply unethical. All attractions are already crazy expensive in Bruges, and the least they should do is list themselves in the museum pass. Otherwise, they should reduce the price
Alessio L — Google review
Totally unique and special local experience. To explore an ancient estate that has been in the same family since 1400s is incredible. There are historic artifacts and fascinating history - it helps that it has had continuity since the medieval period. Highly recommend as something unique in Bruges.
Matthew G — Google review
Great little museum that tells the story of Anselm Adornes. The estate and chapel have been in the same family for over 500 yeras
Richard G — Google review
All cathedrals in Brugges, even including the Basilica of the Holy Blood are for FREE, and they ask 10€ entrance? This is just unethical. Time for Divine Justice won't be long...

If you're planning a trip to Belgium, make sure to include Bruges on your itinerary. This enchanting city is renowned for its picturesque canals, fascinating museums, and stunning medieval architecture. A great way to kick off your adventure is by visiting the iconic Markt square, dominated by the impressive belfry, and the Burg square, which showcases some of the city's most remarkable buildings. For an unforgettable experience in Bruges, consider booking a guided cycling tour with Crusade.
We did the “scenic bike tour through countryside” with Xavier. It was such a beautiful trip and he was incredibly knowledgable. If you’re looking for a countryside break from Bruges, this is it! You’ll get to see the windmills, the lover’s bridge, the village of Damme and many other sites along the way. Xavier was extremely kind and made sure to make us feel comfortable at all times, he went at our pace and we did not feel rushed at all; he answered all questions we had as he is extremely versed in his History and you will definitely be getting what you pay for! This was by far our favorite activity to do in Bruges! We wish we did more tours with him!! Thank you Xavier!!!
Fay F — Google review
We had a spectacular tour with Xavier- we saw areas of the city that would have been hard to get to in the few days we were there and the countryside and Damme were beautiful! Xavier is quite knowledgeable and our family loved learning the history of the area from him.

With a group of international colleagues we had a guided tour in Bruges by Crusade.be. After a welcome drink Xavier took us through the city and told us many stories about the buildings and its history. Xavier is a very passionated guide and kept everybodies attention during the >2hr walk. We ended up in a local pub with beer and tapas. Thank you very much Xavier for the excellent organisation. We really recommend it.
Marcel M — Google review
Our tour guide was great and really showed us a lot of the city. He focused on the history of Bruges along with four tasting from some of his favorite places in the city. The meat and cheese were delicious, the fries were the best we had in Belgium, the beer was at a really cool brewery along the canal, and the chocolate was so good we had to buy some to take home. That being said he also told us that he has a purely tasting tour with 8 tasting but doesn't have as much about the history of the city. He even made a special stop at the basilica of the holy blood for us since we discussed missing seeing it earlier in the day. The tour is about 4 hours but there is plenty of stops during the tour to stop and take photos and eat and drink. We took the tour at 2pm and ended up just having some tapas later that night at our guides remediation since we had so much on the tour. Highly recommend. We are already talking about taking the 8 tasting tour next time.

We had a wonderful bike tour with Xavier in late March. Easy to schedule and coordinate our meet-up location. We had a delightful private tour with 2 adults and 2 kids (age 9 and 12). Total ride was about 13 miles and very manageable for everyone. Quality of bikes was excellent and fit well for kids. Xavier also provided helmets which was much appreciated. Our tour started in Brugge and we biked around the outer edge of the city and then a beautiful ride to Damme. Biking felt very safe - 90% on bike only paths and Xavier is very deliberate in where to cross any busier streets. Many stops along the way where Xavier shares interesting facts and history of Brugge, Damme and Belgium. We greatly enjoyed our ride and highly recommend Xavier for any of this tours.

Xavier's knowledge of the art, architecture, history and culture of Bruges is outstanding. He is skilled at conducting tours and conveys a lot of information in a relaxed manner . He customized the tour experience to incorporate both popular and less known (but significant) sites. Xavier: Thank you for a memorable introduction to the wonderful city of Bruges!

We were a large group of 5 lecturers and 50 students from Reading UK who are all studying culinary arts. We had an amazing visit to Bruges And were taken on an amazing tour sampling local produce with great detailed explanations about Bruges and all the food stops that we visited. The local guides were amazing with their knowledge and would highly recommend to anyone visiting. We will definitely be back for another trip in the future. 5 stars all round.
