The Basilica of the Holy Blood, located in Bruges, is a renowned minor basilica that is famous for housing a phial believed to contain a cloth stained with Jesus Christ's blood. This 12th-century Romanesque basilica is situated in the Burg, an architectural center of Bruges. The basilica features an ornate reliquary and a double-spired chapel, making it one of the most well-known Christian places of worship in the city.
STUNNING!!!! There is a long line for people who want to kneel before the vial containing the relic of the Holy Blood, a phial believed to hold a cloth with the blood of Jesus Christ. The relic is presented on a reliquary and can only be viewed by visitors at specific times, often following a veneration ceremony. I didn't realize this was happening on the day/time I visited. But if you want to only see the basilica it is easy to get in and see the stunning ceiling.
Irma Z — Google review
If you just looked at it from the outside, it’s kind of dark. It’s kinda old. It’s kind of scary. But inside, is a beautiful piece! Visiting the Basilica of the Holy Blood is a two-part experience. The lower chapel, dedicated to St. Basil, is a striking contrast to the upper one. It's a rare example of Romanesque architecture in the region, featuring a dark, somber atmosphere with heavy pillars and stone vaulting. Climbing the staircase leads you to the vibrant upper chapel, a dazzling display of colorful Gothic and Neo-Gothic art. This ornate space is breathtaking, with intricate stained glass windows, rich tapestries, and beautiful paintings. The main attraction is the revered relic of the Holy Blood, housed in a magnificent golden reliquary. The transition from the austere lower chapel to the glittering upper chapel creates a powerful and memorable journey.
Steven C — Google review
It’s easy to miss the Basilica of the Holy Blood, as it’s tucked away in a corner of Burg Square. The basilica has two chapels: a lower chapel and an upper chapel. The lower chapel, dedicated to St. Basil the Great, is a beautiful example of Romanesque architecture that has remained largely unchanged for centuries. The upper chapel is built in the Gothic style and was renovated in the 19th century, offering a stunning contrast to the simpler, historic lower level. Admission to both chapels is free, making it an accessible and rewarding stop. Adjacent to the basilica is a small museum (entrance fee €5) that traces the fascinating history of the chapel and the relic of the Holy Blood. In my opinion, this is an absolute must-see when visiting Bruges—a place where history, art, and spirituality come together in a remarkable way.
Adrian V — Google review
Visiting the Basilica of the Holy Blood was one of the most emotional and memorable moments of my trip. Nestled on the historic Burg Square, this church may look modest from the outside, but once you step inside, it reveals an atmosphere filled with reverence, history, and beauty that truly takes your breath away. I felt incredibly special and grateful to be there. to stand in such a sacred space and even take a quiet moment to pray for something deeply personal. The basilica consists of two chapels: the lower Romanesque chapel of Saint Basil the Great, built in the 12th century, and the upper Gothic chapel, which was later renovated in the 19th century with vibrant paintings and intricate decorations. The church is believed to house a precious relic of the Holy Blood of Jesus Christ, brought to Bruges from the Holy Land around 1150 by Count Thierry of Alsace after the Second Crusade. This relic is displayed in an ornate vial, and during certain times of the day, visitors can approach it closely to pay their respects or say a prayer. The interior is breathtaking, richly painted arches, colorful mosaics, and stained-glass windows that glow with biblical scenes when sunlight filters through. The details on the wooden ceiling and the patterns on the columns are exquisite; every corner seems to tell a story. I couldn’t help but feel humbled and moved, surrounded by centuries of faith and devotion. Even though it’s a popular site, people speak softly, adding to the peaceful, sacred feeling of the place. It’s not just a historical monument, it’s a space where you can truly feel a connection to something timeless and spiritual. Visiting this basilica was a profound and unforgettable experience.
Chlochlo — Google review
This Basilica is amazingly calm and peaceful. Whether you’re religious or not, you can feel it in the ambience. The relic was on display at 12pm, after the 11AM mass downstairs. (My husband and I attended on a Wednesday.) The stuff are nice and friendly. You can take pictures of the Chapel but not of the relic. Come & pray, and be respectful. This is such a sacred place ❤️
Angelizm — Google review
My family and me Visited from Florida, USA. The Basilica of the Holy Blood is absolutely beautiful and peaceful. It’s a stunning Roman Catholic church in Bruges that holds a relic of the Holy Blood, which makes the experience even more meaningful. A must-see when exploring the city!

This small basilica is located in Bruges, Belgium. It's claim to fame is the fact that it is alleged to house a vial of Christ's blood which is on display. The Church itself is beautiful with it's medieval decor. It can be regarded as an important stop for those interested in religious history.

The Groeninge Museum, located in the charming town of Bruges, is a treasure trove for art enthusiasts. It boasts an extensive collection of Flemish primitive artworks, 18th and 19th-century pieces, and modern works. The museum is built on the site of the medieval Eekhout Abbey and showcases masterpieces by renowned Flemish painters such as Jan Van Eyck, Hugo van der Goes, and Lancelot Blondeel.
Loved our visit to the museum! Lots of Flemish paintings in the collection, and a section at the end about the Book of Hours. To follow along the rooms I recommend scanning the QR code before you enter the museum which provides a digital tour of each room in your preferred language. You can click on each painting in each room and it’ll give you a comprehensive explanation of the painting or the artist. We spent around 1.5 hours here doing the self guided tour.
Tanya G — Google review
Very nice art museum with an interesting exhibit about medieval books. Lacked a bit of variety because you can only see so many paintings of Jesus on the cross before it gets boring. The highlight for me the Boschs tryptic. Stunning. Overall for the price it was pretty good.
Brendan S — Google review
A museum of the history of Flamish art starting with the primitive artist until today. A must see in Bruges if only for the Jan van Eyck masterpiece! Very well organized, flows chronological from room to room, with good description for the period and the highlilighted pieces.
George O — Google review
Lovely museums with very friendly staff and incredible collections. After a busy day enjoying Bruges with its beautiful canals and old buildings, this is such a nice and quiet escape from the crowd. It might not be as big as other big museums in Belgium but I still feel like it’s one of those that is worth to visit.
Cita W — Google review
I had the best time visiting the Groeninge Museum today. Epic masterpieces and so many of the fun creepy depictions of demons from the renaissance art that keep you guessing. The audio guide was helpful and they have a great gift shop with postcards and trinkets from the collection. Would recommend if visiting Bruges!
Lauren C — Google review
A small yet truly remarkable collection of paintings. The staff were incredibly friendly and really enhanced the experience. The entire venue is laid out in a clear and logical manner, so you never feel confused or overwhelmed. It's simple to navigate through the exhibition and genuinely appreciate each piece without feeling drained. A fantastic place to view works by Flemish artists in a quiet, well-organized environment.

A very nice museum of fine arts. Sufficient explanation to help a layman like me to get around. Didn’t have time to finish as I was too hungry. Will definitely visit again to finish it.

The Church of Our Lady, located in Bruges, Belgium, is a stunning example of Gothic architecture with a soaring tower that reaches 115.6 meters high. Dating back to the 13th century, it holds great historical and artistic significance. The church is home to several notable art pieces, including Michelangelo's 'Madonna and Child,' a rare work that left Italy during the artist's lifetime.
A trip to Bruges usually conjures images of colourful centuries old buildings, the most popular of which are found in The Markt or Market Square. However, for my 2nd visit to the city, I requested a friend to bring me to the statue of the "Madonna of Bruges" located in the Church of Our Lady. This Michelangelo sculpture was prominently featured in the movie "Monuments Men" as one of the art treasures looted by Nazi Germany. The moment I entered the church, I was super excited as it has been on my bucket list since 2014. To pay homage to the Virgin Mary is part of the Devotion of a Catholic. To see the sculpture of Michelangelo is an art lover's cherished desire. To be near an object with historical significance is top wish for every student of history. Thus, it was truly a dream fulfilled for me to see the Madonna. The Church of Our Lady (Dutch: Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk) is a Roman Catholic church  in Bruges, Belgium, dating mainly from the 13th, 14th and 15th centuries. Its 115.6-metre-high (379 ft) tower remains the tallest structure in the city and the third tallest brickwork  tower in the world. The tower can be nicely seen from the canals during a boat tour. Just like in any gothic church, the interior is splendid. The stained-glass windows are beautiful with ornate decorations and with a sense of mystery. I was surprised to see open burial stone coffins with paintings or markings inside. Truly bizarre. In contrast, the ornately decorated resting places of Mary of Burgundy and her father were pleasant surprises. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, especially for Catholics, lovers of history, and the arts. #CatholicChurch #Bruges #Belgium #MadonnaOfBruges #Michelangelo

Stepping inside this church is an awe-inspiring experience. The scale of the architecture is simply breathtaking, with soaring ceilings and a real sense of historic grandeur. The church is filled with incredible works of art, from masterpiece paintings to intricate sculptures. The stained-glass windows are particularly beautiful, filling the space with colored light and creating a truly peaceful atmosphere. A must-visit for anyone who appreciates history, art, and stunning architecture.
Bird — Google review
Amazing artwork - paintings, exquisitely carved wooden pulpit and confessionals and the treasure of Bruges, Madonna and Child. Worth every penny to get into the paid area. Even if you are not strongly religious, the artwork is awe inspiring and worth it for the history and the beauty.
Dad — Google review
Beautiful church. Peaceful when you visit. Nice well maintained architecture. No ticket needed. Good place to take photo of whole church are on the museum close by. Enjoy !
Supakij K — Google review
This is a must-see see church when visiting Bruges. The church is famous for housing a Michelangelo sculpture of Madonna with child. Entrance into the church is free but you have to purchase a ticket to view the sculpture. The church tower is the tallest structure in the city and 3rd tallest brick tower in the world. Take time to admire the flying butresses that support the massive tower.
Richard T — Google review
One of the most exquisite Gothic churches I've visited. I also appreciated seeing their impressive art collection both old and new.
Irma Z — Google review
This is one of Bruges’ most iconic landmarks and a masterpiece of Gothic architecture. Its soaring brick tower, reaching 115.5 meters (379 feet), is the tallest structure in Bruges and one of the tallest brick towers in the world. Construction began in the 13th century and continued for two centuries, resulting in a harmonious blend of architectural styles. The church is especially famous for housing Michelangelo’s Madonna and Child, the only one of his sculptures to have left Italy during his lifetime. Inside, visitors can also admire ornate altarpieces, medieval tombs of Burgundy nobility, and beautiful stained-glass windows. The tombs of Charles the Bold and Mary of Burgundy are particularly noteworthy for their historical and artistic significance. The Church of Our Lady is both a spiritual sanctuary and an artistic treasure, offering insight into the religious and cultural richness of medieval Bruges.
Tiago C — Google review
Beautiful and iconic church to visit while in Bruges. A rare opportunity to see a sculpture created by Michelangelo. The details in the Madonna of Bruges marble sculpture are astonishing! You will pay €6 per adult to see the sculpture but it is worth the opportunity. The church is in a beautiful location and near the most popular tourist locations.

Choco-Story, Chocolate Museum is a small museum that offers a fascinating journey through the history of chocolate. Visitors can explore exhibits on the origins of chocolate, its journey from Mexico to Europe and finally to Belgium. The museum provides demonstrations, samples, and even a gift shop for those looking to take home some sweet treats. Additionally, guests have the option to participate in a master class where they can learn about the process of making chocolate and indulge in chocolate tastings.
Great place to visit! Good price for the visit too, which we were particularly happy with (given that Brugge is an expensive place). Good tour- you get a little radio thing to carry round with you, which you can activate facts / bits of dialogue by activating numbers on the wall next to the exhibits, which is cool and means you can do the tour in your own time and focus on things you are interested in. Different dialogue and explanations for the kids too. Also - they have learning video game stations for kids (and big kids!). The visit was finished off by some free chocolate and a chocolate making live demonstration, which was great! Well worth a visit!
Autumnblueskies — Google review
We went to Choco-Story with kids on a Sunday. The tour is a lot of up and down on stairs, so we had to part our stroller and carry the little one. There is a an elevator but not sure when it is used and it makes it possible to tour in a stroller/wheelchair. It was crowded so it was a bit hard to enjoy the various displays/interactive games etc. in the museum. There is an audio device provided which can be used to point at various points in the tour and listen to the information. The displays were interesting as it went through the various time periods of chocolate making chronologically. It also had an area which described the step-by-step chocolate making process followed in Belgium, but it would have been better to show things more physically than on a screen. There were various interactive games which adults and kids could play which was great, but a few of them were not easy to use properly or were not working. There is some chocolate to taste in the end (each type: dark, white, milk, amber) and also if you are able to time it correctly, some live chocolate that's made in front of you. The chocolate figures in the end were nice to see. Overall, an interesting tour which could have been even better with a little less crowd and a little more chocolate making.
Kartik S — Google review
wonderful spot for chocolate enthusiasts, offering plenty to see, taste, and learn. The experience is rich in flavour and history, making it a treat for the senses. However, be prepared for lots of stairs throughout the visit—something to keep in mind if you’re bringing small children or anyone with mobility concerns
Chathu S — Google review
Seriously overpriced and poor museum. Was a running joke of the weekend how poor this museum was. 100% a tourist trap. Only redeeming factor was some free chocolate buttons at the end of the museum and that there a couple of models made from chocolate. Entry should be €4-5 euros max. Even the chocolate isn’t made locally. Might be half decent for kids. All the artefacts in the museum are fake. You get given an audio guide to go around listen too.
Nathan M — Google review
This was a good museum, but it’s not cheap. Overall, for me, it just about represents value for money. We arrived right on opening at 10am, when there was already a large number of people waiting. The slightly chaotic opening was hampered by a large group being ushered through ahead of everybody. There are some interesting facts about chocolate that I learned from the Museum and it took us just over an hour to get everything we wanted from our visit.
Toby B — Google review
Decent experience, a bit pricey. Don't have many demonstrations & you can't smell the chocolate like I'd expect. Great to learn about the history of Belgium chocolate & interactive features throughout the museum.
Ryan A — Google review
The chocolate here is delicious, and the visit is both fun and educational. It’s very interesting to learn about the origin of cocoa beans and the chocolate manufacturing process. A great experience for anyone who loves chocolate.
FA — Google review
At the end they show how basic chocolate is made and you get to eat some for free. The thingies you use to go around with the audiobook don’t work perfectly, sometimes you need to swipe across four times before it works but they have fun little mini games you can play as you go room through room and collect points!! If you take a photo at the end, give them your email otherwise you won’t get it, the people in front of us apparently didn’t notice A Bit inaccurate about how everything between Hernan Cortez and Moctezuma went down tho

Historium Bruges is a unique museum that offers a captivating journey through medieval Bruges. It provides an entertaining walk-through exhibition with film, multimedia, and interactive displays, making it an ideal introduction to the city for children. The museum's historically-themed rooms cover various aspects of Bruges' Golden Age, including its port, toll houses, medieval streets, and bathhouse. Visitors can enjoy a multimedia experience that transports them back in time to explore the city's rich history and culture.
It was a pleasant experience that started with a virtual reality show (I highly recommend it). It is not a museum per se but rather an educational history spot. It is entertaining with lots of videos to watch as you walk through the various "rooms" telling the story. The bar in the historium has a very nice patio to enjoy a beer or two!

Finally, I made it to Bruges! This magical little town has been on my bucket list forever, and being there felt like stepping into a fairytale. The cobblestone streets, charming canals, and storybook buildings were even more beautiful in person. I spent hours just walking, exploring quiet corners, sipping hot chocolate, and enjoying the crowd. The same taxi driver who picked up from the train station, was the same one to drop us too hahaha it was a funny story behind it .. but it made a good ending of a raining day there. It’s one of those places that stays with you. I’m so glad I finally made it, and I already know I’ll be coming back!!
Salama D — Google review
Really enjoyed the interactive nature of the Historium. The Virtual Reality experience was a fun addition that made you feel like you were actually sailing into the old port. Also, the view from the Historium Tower is one of the best spots to see the whole Market Square. Great value for the full experience.
Arunbhaarat — Google review
A top place to visit when in Bruges, great for families, couples and individuals alike. The facility and concept is just fantastic and is executed with precision. Take a moment, whilst on the tourist trail, to step I side this venue and learn about the historical Bruges and what an economical and political centre it was in the middle ages. Great staff, the VR part is a part you will not want to miss and access to the upper balcony, you will have some of the finest views out onto the Grote Market. I hope this continues to enjoy the success it deserves and help us appreciate how and why Bruges became the aesthetically pleasing city it is.
Richard P — Google review
A fantastic experience in the heart of Bruges! The Historium blends storytelling, multimedia, and virtual reality to take you back to the 15th century. You follow the journey of Jacob, an apprentice of painter Jan van Eyck, through beautifully designed rooms that recreate medieval life with sights, sounds, and even scents. The VR experience is a real highlight — flying over historical Bruges was breathtaking. It’s well-organized, family-friendly, and engaging without being too long (about 1 to 1.5 hours). The optional tower visit also gives you a great panoramic view of the city. It’s not a traditional museum with ancient artifacts, but more of an immersive experience — perfect if you enjoy interactive history. Slightly pricey, but worth it for the quality and creativity. Highly recommended if you’re visiting Bruges for the first time!
Leandro H — Google review
Historium Brugge was such a fun experience and a highlight of our visit to Bruges! It’s right on the Markt (main square), so it’s super easy to find and makes a great stop between other sights. They offer a few different packages, and we chose the one that included both the Story and the VR experience. The VR part was one of the better virtual reality experiences we have tried. The storytelling experience takes you through a fictional tale set in 15th-century Bruges. You walk through beautifully designed rooms that recreate the atmosphere of that era, with clever effects and great attention to detail. The story itself is lighthearted, which we appreciated—when you’re traveling, you don’t necessarily want heavy drama! I won’t give away any spoilers, but the way each room is set up and transitions into the next was impressive. We especially liked the special effects in a couple of the rooms. The staff were all very friendly, and the whole place was clean, well organized, and easy to navigate. The visit took about an hour, which was perfect. There’s also a lovely beer hall with a balcony that overlooks the main square—a perfect spot to relax after your visit. All in all, Historium Brugge is a great experience—family-friendly, beautifully designed, and absolutely worth trying if you’re in the city.
Mahsa T — Google review
We did the VR and tower version. On the VR part you sat down on a bench and then it told a story of Bruges in its heyday. Wasn't bad. Then you were given a headsets and you went in seven different rooms where a story was told about Jacob and Anna. It was interesting. Then there was the museum part which you could get information through your headset by putting a number in. Amazing thing was normally you finish in the obligatory shop but here you went into a bar. Well it's Belgium .
Stillapatmike — Google review
Where do I start? What even is this place and who is it for? The VR part was solid--would recommend. The next part was these 9 rooms where you follow the most boring story. Like who wrote this and why? It was so bad. The 9 rooms felt like the line for a Disney ride, yet you get to the end and there's no ride. At the end, there's a cool view and beer tasting room. However, the expensive ticket didn't even include a beer sample (at least, if it did, it wasn't posted). Super lame experience. I really just don't get why anyone would want to see this! Do the VR and skip the rest!

Market Square, located in the heart of Bruges, is a bustling traffic-free square that underwent renovations in 1996. The square is home to the impressive 13th-century Belfry and surrounded by other captivating buildings such as the Provincial Palace and a statue honoring heroes from the Battle of the Golden Spurs. Visitors can also enjoy delicious fried potatoes from nearby vendors.
I visited Market Square in Belgium and found it to be a truly beautiful place. The architecture is stunning, and the overall atmosphere is very welcoming. There was an event happening when I went, which made the visit even more enjoyable. I joined briefly, and there were a few fun things to see and do. It’s a great mix of history, culture, and local life. Highly recommended if you're in town.

A beautiful and historically important place. The Grote Markt is lined with beautiful medieval buildings. There are a lot of restaurants and cafes around. You can also just stay in the square and amaze at the buildings and soak up the atmosphere. But beware, you will not be alone here as the square is packed with people - even in low season - it is never quiet here. A must visit place when in Bruges.

Bustling charm at Market Square 🏰🛍️🐎🚤 The Wednesday market is a must-see—full of local goods, vibrant energy, and great finds! Enjoyed carriage rides, boat sightings, and other fun activities that bring the square to life. Beautiful and lively square in the center of Bruges! Surrounded by charming medieval buildings, cafés, and horse carriages – it truly feels like stepping into a fairytale. I loved the atmosphere, especially the sound of the bells from the Belfry tower. It’s the perfect spot to relax, take photos, and enjoy the city’s historical vibes. Highly recommend visiting in the morning for a peaceful walk or in the afternoon to enjoy a drink on a sunny terrace. One of the most iconic places in Belgium – don’t miss it if you’re in Bruges

Huisbrouwerij De Halve Maan is a family-run brewery located in Bruges, the only one in the city. It offers guided tours that provide insight into old brewing techniques and include a visit to the museum. The brewery produces popular brands such as Brugse Zot and Straffe Hendrik, which are widely available in bars around town.
If you are visiting Bruges for a day or more and love beer and history…this is the place for you. Sign up for a brewery tour to learn the deep history of this beautiful place. Your tour is about 50 minutes and you get to enjoy a beer at the end by redeeming your ticket at the bar. Be careful not to pregame too hard before the tour…the stairs through the tour are not for the weary, but everything was worth it! The food folks were munching on outside under the umbrella tables looked fantastic. Definitely take the time to come here and enjoy the history!

My husband had previously visited here years ago with his best friend, so when we came to Bruges for a family day out, he was keen to bring us here, especially as I come from a brewing town. As the outdoor seating area was full, we found a table and although the rest of us stuck to soft drinks, my husband enjoyed reminiscing with a few beers. Lovely place to spend a few hours and there is a good shop too

Huisbrouwerij De Halve Maan in Bruges is a must-visit for beer lovers. The brewery has an incredible history and is still family-run, which makes the experience even more special. The tour is fascinating — not only do you get to learn about the brewing process in detail, but you also get to see their famous *beer pipeline* (“cerveceducto”) that runs under the city to connect the brewery with the bottling plant. The quality of their beer is outstanding, and tasting it fresh at the source is unforgettable. The staff and tour guides are excellent — knowledgeable, engaging, and very welcoming. The restaurant is also quite good, with hearty dishes that pair perfectly with their beers. That said, it’s a very popular spot, so it can feel a bit touristy and busy at times. Still, the overall experience is absolutely worth it — great beer, rich history, and a unique piece of Bruges culture.

Multiple friends (local and travel buddies) recommended this brewery as a must-visit. It did not disappoint. The unfiltered Belgian beers were stellar. The beer is piped in from the brewery 3.2km away. The vibe is chill and fun. Waiters are always circling around, checking on you. Definitely one of my favorite spots. I didn't get to try the food, but glancing at other peoples tables, it looked great too!

Really nice brewery with a great vibe! Always easy to find a spot, and the draft beer tastes fantastic. There’s a lovely outdoor area to sit and relax, and you can also join a brewery tour if you’re interested. Definitely worth stopping by for a pint (or two)!

We didn’t go on the tour or visit the museum — instead, we just wanted to sit and enjoy some local beer. The place has a lovely small yard with its own unique atmosphere. There were quite a few waiters, all very polite and attentive. The beer tasted great, and we also tried the spretzels — they were incredibly fresh!
Наталья Г — Google review
The tour of the Brewery was okay.We didn’t really understand the English Guide, but it was acceptable. When you buy tickets for the tour you also get a beer that is not filtered and it’s natural. It was very good,I loved the new flavor! The food was pretty expensive for how it tasted. The beef stew made in beer was bitter, but the melon and prosciutto salad was okay..but pricey. After all it was a great experience..but not worth eating there.
Rebecca S — Google review
The insightful guided tour gave details on beer processing and the unique tube transport method! The place shows the dynasty of the owners along history by having both very modern equipment and also keeping the old equipment highlighted in every corner as a reminder of their heritage.

Beguinage 'Ten Wijngaerde' is a serene complex that was once occupied by the Beguines, a group of religious women dedicated to their faith. After the last Beguine passed away in 2013, the movement ceased to exist. Today, visitors can explore the grounds featuring open green spaces, gardens, a 17th-century church, and a small museum showcasing the life of these women. The tranquil convent garden is now inhabited by nuns of the St.
I’ve been here several times during spring and also summer. To be honest, spring is munch prettier as you will see flowers blooming instead of just green grass in summer. It’s very peaceful historic Béguinage. We will be surrounded by those white houses so it make you feel calm and make it’s quite popular to take pictures. There is a few signs to keep silence and not step on grass. Let’s follow those rules so everyone can still enjoy it.

This place is a true oasis of peace and quiet. It's incredible how you can be in a busy tourist area one minute, and then step through the gates into this serene and tranquil world. The noise and crowds just melt away. It's a beautiful, historic spot with its lovely white houses and tall trees. The perfect place to slow down, walk peacefully, and enjoy a moment of calm. A must-visit to experience a different side of Bruges.
Bird — Google review
Begijnhof in Bruges is a peaceful courtyard tucked behind a simple gate, offering a quiet serene walk through their gardens. It was originally founded in the 13th century as a community for Beguines lay religious women who lived together in devotion without taking formal vows like nuns. These women led independent lives, often working as nurses or teachers, and the Begijnhof gave them a safe and structured place to live. Today, the whitewashed houses and tranquil garden still reflect that sense of simplicity and reflection. A small chapel sits at the heart of the grounds, and swans drift quietly along the nearby canal. It is not just a historical site, it still houses Benedictine nuns.
Kristen — Google review
came here twice, once on my own, then once as a tour group. -If you are in town for more then just a day trip, then i recommend coming in the morning, before 9am, its completely empty. After 9am the tours start and there is massive crowds as this is one of the closes "attractions" to the train station, so its a first stop for most walking tours. I even saw one of the 3 nuns still remaining in the morning. -Its interesting how the trees are all on a angle from the wind.

Located near the Papageno statue in Bruges, the Frietmuseum is a unique attraction dedicated to the history of potato fries. Visitors can explore exhibits that showcase the origins and evolution of this beloved food, including its association with chocolate. Alongside other culinary museums in Bruges, such as the Beer Museum and Choco-Story, the Frietmuseum offers an informative experience for those interested in Belgian delicacies.
Very interesting museum about the history of the potato and in this case the most important ingrediend of fries. I liked the build up of the museum and the partly nostalgic vibes. At the end there's a small snack bar, where you can order fries for a taste test. Unfortunately I'm vegetarian and couldn't taste some, because there was no other option than beef oil.
Jakob T — Google review
I'd highly recommend this museum as a must-do when in Bruges! It takes 1- 1.5 hours to comfortably cover the entire museum. My family and I loved it! We bought our tickets in advance and there was a short queue when we arrived that moved fast. We were cleared and gained entrance in less than 5 mins. If you speak English, French or Dutch, you can make it through without the audio guide. There's a lot of hidden gems and facts. Be sure to walk through every room from corner to corner. Pros: The cartoons (Fiona and Peter's) interactions were a hit for my kids. They remembered their story all through the visit. The play area in the restaurant is also a nice addition. Some additional signage about it at the door or marked on the wall would be good. Kudos to the restaurant team! Their service was prompt and the frites were delicious. For the adventurous tasters, select the sauce platter-all the 5 sauces are worth it! Cons: The bathrooms got messy very fast. It's understandable since we visited in the afternoon which seems to be preferred by families. I'd advise better management of this space. Recommendation: We had a "pomme pomme" sing along...perhaps the cabaret can be an entire karaoke! Perhaps adding Peter and Fiona's respective moulds at the cabaret can make it more fun for kids.
Assunta B — Google review
I visited the Frietmuseum with high expectations, but unfortunately, it was quite disappointing. The museum is small and lacks engaging exhibits—most of the displays are old, outdated, and not very interactive. For a place dedicated to fries, I expected more fun facts, tastings, or at least some entertaining activities, but it felt more like a dull history lesson with very little to see or do. The admission price is too high for what you get, and the overall experience just wasn’t worth it. Unless you’re an absolute die-hard fries enthusiast with nothing else to do in Bruges, I’d recommend skipping this one. There are much better attractions in the city to spend your time and money on.
Faleh A — Google review
Being the curious person that I am, I had to visit this. It's mainly about potatoes that's fries, but that's fine. Potatoes are amazing, anyone who disagrees is wrong. You're given a little device that you scan various numbers and get a small audio presentation about a certain topic. There's also plenty of interactives. A shooting game where you have to shoot down evil pests with potatoes, singing animatronics and plenty more. There's traditionally made fries in the basement that was rather lovely. Rather big portion too at that, I couldn't finish mine! Oh, and plenty of potato based products in the gift shop. The only thing preventing a 5 star review is the price as it was rather high for what was presented. But at the same time I understand why, rent at such an attractive spot cannot be cheap.
Kenny A — Google review
Save your money and don’t go. This place is not worth the money. At the entrance you’ll receive a coupon for 10% off fries at the restaurant at the end of the museum but those fries were plain gross. The people serving them were not very friendly and were on their phones. The museum is nothing impressive and a lot of listening with the little machine they provide you. You can get some cute pictures but it’s really not worth it. I don’t recommend this place.
Maggie R — Google review
It’s a versatile place and feels okay to visit. You do get the chance to try freshly made fries, which is nice. Not exactly a must-visit, but worth checking out if you have some free time.
Narashima P — Google review
Entertaining and funny, we spent a little bit more than an hour here and learned quite a lot about potatoes :) Of course we had to buy some fresh fries at the end. My husband was in love with your mayonaise :)))
Teresa S — Google review
Nice. Quite a lot of facts about origin of potatoes, how the fries are made and how the mass production started. 3 stars... because local school kids were very loud and i could not hear the audio, there was no staff member /teacher around to remind that its public place ... and some awareness about others should be reminded Bit narrow as well but its very old building so cant complain. .There are toilets, small shop on site.. ...

The Bruges Beer Experience is a must-visit museum located in the heart of Bruges, offering an immersive journey into the world of beer. Unlike traditional brewery museums, this modern and interactive destination provides a comprehensive look at the history and culture of beer, with a special focus on Bruges' brewing heritage. Visitors can enjoy learning about the beer-making process and uncovering entertaining historical anecdotes through a self-guided tour using tablets and headphones.
Wow, what a great place to visit. The entrance is like a giant man cave. There are beer signs from all around the world as you climb the stairs. We decided to do 1 x tour and 3 samples at the end and 1 x adult only. We were given ipads and headphones, and you just have to pit the camera in the direction of an object, and it tells you all about it. There is a quiz as you go around and good for games between family members to see who gets most right, 20 questions in all. I loved the layout of the museum and kept you engaged all the way round. You get to be hands-on as you walk around, picking up grain, hops, and being able to smell all the ingredients for making beer. The staff here were great too, explaining all the beers when we got to the bar, we took a seat, and it looks over the square. If im ever back here again, I will definitely revisit.

Worth the climb to avoid the crowds but still get views over the square! Plus it was only 10 euro for a fight! Only weird thing is they won’t sell you the chocolate they have unless you buy it with the specific beer pairing…even if you pair it yourself. So bring your own chocolate.

Wow. Great conversation. Staff is fantastic here, all around conversation about beer, bourbon and Rum. About 14 beers on tap, you can select 4 for 10 euro. Cornet was refreshing even when it was oaky beet similar to bourbon. Stop by if you want to have great chat and decent amount of local beer.

Saint John’s Hospital, located across the street from the Church of Lady, is a museum housed in one of Europe's oldest preserved hospitals. The museum recently reopened with a new exhibition showcasing 900 years of care and hospitality. It features an extensive collection of paintings by Flemish primitive painter Hans Memling, as well as contemporary art by various artists. The hospital displays medieval surgical instruments alongside religious artworks and offers insight into its history as a place for pilgrims and travelers in need of medical attention.
The Old St. John’s Hospital in Bruges truly caught my attention with its fascinating history and unique architecture. It also houses a historic pharmacy museum, adding to its charm. This ancient hospital complex offers a captivating glimpse into medieval medical care
Uğur A — Google review
The building was beautiful and hard to bel it was a hospital in it's day. More like a church (part of it was a monastery and the hospital was 'staffed' by nuns 100s of years ago. A lot of the displays were of art pieces from the time with a some amount of info relating to the care of patients. Well presented, though and an audio guide was available. Purchased a ticket that included the apothecary.
Heather M — Google review
I was supported by kind staff during a sudden nosebleed, of which the volume could be demonstrated from the elevator scene from the shining. Regardless, the kind staff rescued me by fast tracking me to a neighbouring museum to access the toilet and sink. The museum was also worth visiting, with an excellent exhibition.

Gorgeous old building featuring beautiful courtyard that makes you feel like you've been transported back to medieval times. The price is reasonable for the experience you receive. The exhibits are well-organized, and the stories behind them are really engaging - the hospitality theme and the layout of the exhibition guide you easily . And let's not forget the star of the place, Memling. The pieces are truly remarkable, and just the collection itself is worth the trip.

Located in a grand 15th-century residence next to Bruges Cathedral, the Gruuthusemuseum showcases a wide array of historic furniture, sculptures, and tapestries. The exhibits are predominantly labeled in Flemish and include Belgian antique furniture, silk tapestries, and various art pieces. The museum is named after the unique blend of herbs and flowers used to brew traditional Belgian beer known as 'gruut'.
The Gruuthusemuseum is a fantastic, historically interesting, beautiful art filled experience that is attached to the amazing Church of Our Lady next door. The art house here is interesting in the architecture and design is splendid. It’s hard to fathom having so much money that the Catholic Church allows you to build your house adjoining your chosen place of worship, but that’s exactly what happened here. I for one I’m glad that it did. Visiting both of these historical sites on the same day makes perfect sense. This museum and the adjacent church are included on the Bruges city card. To get this card, you can go to any of the places that it gives you access to across the city. Wait to activate the card until you’re ready to go to multiple attractions. The card is 24, 48, or 72 hours depending on the length of your stay and the amount of sightseeing you wish to do. I’ve added lots of photos for your window shoppers out there!

Excellent example of how wealthy landowners and merchants would have lived. Beautifully preserved, multiple floors, and loads of period furniture, artifacts, and exhibits with explanations in English. No elevators may discourage the non-climbers. Don’t miss the restored chapel inside the home on the third floor with the secret windows that overlooks into the church next door. This area allowed attendance in your pajamas without the lower classes noticing.

Fascinating and magnificent museum in the former home of a wealthy brewer in Brugge from the 15thC. It has recently been extensively restored. Great insights (available in several languages including English) on society, business, and lifestyle of the times. It is important to note that there are no elevators that I was aware of so for anyone with mobility issues accessing the higher floors will be difficult.

So much information to learn about the history and the city of Brugge in this museum. It is well organized and presented professionally. I enjoyed going through all the rooms and reading and seeing century old books like the first city ledgers, the agreements between political heads. All very fascinating. Some of the views from this museum are absolutely magnificent- the balcony has the best view. There is a lot more and if you enjoy history and have the time to peruse all this museum has to offer, 2-3 hours would be sufficient. Take note that the spiral staircases are a little steep and narrow.

Get the Brugelge museum pass! I suggest not getting it until you're ready to dedicate the time for the museums. You can get it at any participating location. Ok this place was AMAZING. Built in the 1400's by the advisor to the king, the family was so wealthy, they had their house connected to the church as well as their own chapel area so they didn't have to leave their house technically. Weird flex, but ok. The artifacts that are kept in this 17 room manorhouse/museum are bar none. Tapestrys, paintings, lace, books, ledgers, coins, pottery, embroidery, statues, silver, you name it! Theres also a part where you can stand on a balcony and have an amazing view! The house itself is magnificent. Well worth a visit.

Rosary Quay in Bruges is a picturesque spot that perfectly captures the historic charm of the city. Named after the place where nuns used to sell rosaries, it offers stunning views of canals, bridges, weeping willow trees, and medieval architecture. Visitors can stroll through a passageway under the Palace of the Liberty of Bruges to reach the canal and embark on boat tours.
It’s as cute as the photos you’ve seen and another delicious highlight of Bruges. The late afternoon reflections on the canal were just gorgeous. It’s a busy place understandably as bus loads of tourists roll in all day every day to take photos of this spot but if you’re staying in Bruges in summer, I’d just visit after 5pm when they’re all gone. It’s a much nicer photo too.

A magical way to see Bruges! Taking the boat tour was one of the highlights of our visit. Cruising through the canals gave us a totally different perspective of the city—peaceful, romantic, and full of charm. The guide was informative and added a touch of humor while explaining the history of the buildings and bridges we passed. It’s a short ride (about 30 minutes), but absolutely worth it. Great for photos and soaking in the fairytale vibe of Bruges!

The Belfry of Bruges is a medieval bell tower that stands at an impressive 83 meters high, making it a striking feature in the city's skyline. It is a cherished landmark with a treasure chamber and houses a 47-belled carillon. Climbing its 366 steps rewards visitors with panoramic views of Bruges from the top. The unique chimes of the carillon add to the experience as you ascend.
This is a gorgeous, fascinating piece of architecture. We bought tickets to climb to the top during the weekend carillon performance. You can't see or hear much of the music while you're in the stairwell, so I'd suggest taking in the music from outside and going inside before or after that. My husband and I aren't athletic at all, so we paced ourselves. There are some exhibits along the way, which made for a couple of nice breaks. The climb was pretty exhausting, but well worth it! The view from the top is incredible, and it was also nice to see the bells up close. People with chronic knee pain, back problems, or vertigo should not do the climb. Be sure to buy your ticket in advance and arrive at your scheduled time. This place can get very busy! Even so, it's worth the wait and the cost of admission. You will not regret it!

Wonderful experience climbing the belfort tower, the view from the top is magnificent. It is also nice to see all the bells, everything so well preserved. The hike to the top isn't that bad, there are opportunities to rest throughout. It is advisable to buy your tickets in advance as is a very popular tourist attraction. It's absolutely worth the climb. Highly recommended.

Climbing the Belfort Tower was one of the most memorable and fun experiences of our visit. This iconic bell tower, standing proudly in the heart of Bruges, dates all the way back to the 13th century! making it even older than the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Knowing that we were walking inside a structure with such deep history made the climb even more special. The Belfort has 366 steps leading to the top, and while that might sound intimidating at first, the journey upward is absolutely worth it. When we first saw the sign warning that visitors should be in good health to climb, we felt a bit nervous. But once we began, we realized it was not too difficult at all! more like an adventure! The staircase is narrow and steep, so you occasionally have to pause to let people coming down pass by. These little breaks actually make the experience nicer, giving you a moment to catch your breath and take in the medieval atmosphere of the interior walls and beams. Halfway up, we reached the room housing the automatic bell system, which was fascinating to see up close. The giant drum mechanism that controls the bells is like something from another era , a perfect blend of art and engineering. When the bells start ringing, the sound is beautiful yet incredibly powerful, echoing through every stone of the tower. Finally reaching the top feels like a true reward. The panoramic view over Bruges is absolutely breathtaking, rows of red rooftops, winding canals, and the bustling market square below. Standing there, feeling the cool breeze and hearing the faint sound of bells, you truly understand why the Belfort Tower is such a beloved symbol of Bruges. It’s a climb one I’d recommend to anyone visiting this magical city.
Chlochlo — Google review
So so worth it. Great view and if you stay long enough you can hear the bells ringing. The walk up was not terrible, but it’s a lot of stairs. With mobility issues you’ll struggle. Gets tight near the top, but less scary than most of the towers we’ve climbed over the years in Europe. Read the info cards, they are super interesting. Has a lot of languages. Very cool story, and the views are killer. Make sure you get there an hour or so before you want to go up, tickets are sold in a small electronic kiosk inside the main door off the square on the left. Only so many tickets are sold per 40 minute chunk.
Adrian N — Google review
Amazing experience climbing to the top of the tower. Steep, narrow steps but worth it! Amazing view. The tower; from the ground, is amazing to admire, especially at night!
Ryan A — Google review
I recommend buying tickets online ahead of time or at the kiosk out front where you can select what time you want to visit. Otherwise you may have to wait a few hours. The climb to the top is quick, with several points of interest on the way. It’s unfortunate there is netting up to which obstructs your view and photos on the city. Also the cost at €15 is a bit extreme. €5-8 would be more reasonable
Christine P — Google review
Absolutely stunning experience! Climbing the tower was one of the highlights of my trip. The panoramic views from the top are simply breathtaking — you get the perfect perspective of the city’s historic skyline. The exhibits inside are also really well done and give a fascinating glimpse into the tower’s history and the role of the bells. Don’t miss it if you’re in Brugge
Марта С — Google review
The Belfort in Bruges offers a stunning view both day and night. Climbing the tower is a must—once at the top, you can see the entire city, its canals, rooftops, and the surrounding countryside. The experience is both historic and breathtaking, giving you a real sense of Bruges’ medieval charm. The atmosphere around the tower, with its bells and architecture, adds to the experience, making it unforgettable.

Step into the enchanting world of Bruges City Hall, a Gothic masterpiece dating back to 1376. Adorned with statues of Flanders counts and countesses, the exterior boasts ornate arches and lavish details. Inside, the Gothic Hall features a stunning neo-Gothic polychrome vaulted ceiling and historic murals from the 19th century. This medieval marvel offers a glimpse into centuries-old council meetings and whispers of history within its grand interior.
It is a nice, big museum, and there are many places to visit in this square. It’s a huge area. There is an entrance fee for the museum, but some places are completely free. Just take a full day to explore. Bruges Town Hall (Stadhuis), one of the oldest in Belgium, dating back to 1376. Its Gothic architecture, stunning vaulted ceiling, and historic murals make it a highlight of the square.

Beautiful building with a rich history. The ground floor has free access. The first floor is paid and also gives you access to the neighbouring building. You get a good historical explanation of Bruges and its port. The staff was super helpful and had good recommendations.
C. C — Google review
SPECTACULAR. Also note this is still an active town hall (it is also Belgium's oldest town hall) and city leaders still meet at the table on the upper floor that I have in one of the photos. It is one of the oldest buildings in the entire region. The city has been governed from here for more than 600 years.
Irma Z — Google review
I'm not commenting just on the City Hall, but Bruges in general. A beautiful historic city. Full of charm and elegance and although part of a bigger tour for my wife and I , a city easily accessible from the UK. We spent two days here exploring the city streets , marvelling at the architecture and culture of the city . The Beer and chocolate has to be sampled but to just take in the sights is pleasure enough .

Such a cool museum! Highly recommend. The medieval architecture is beautiful. There’s a room with a map of the area and video overlays that go through the history from 500 AD to present day of the area. Very cool

For 10 euros the self guided tour is good. You get access to the town hall and a small side room with a 3d projection map of the history of the city. The town hall is absolutely stunning. You are provided a big card to read that described the murals around the hall.

Awesome spot to really get in the vibe of the city. The hall itself is stunning, and there's this AR exhibit that goes deep into the entire history of the city, complete with narration in three languages through headphones. Plus, it's affordable too - totally loved it!

The Bruges Boat Tour is a must-do activity when visiting this picturesque city, often referred to as the Venice of the North due to its winding canals. It offers a unique perspective of the medieval city and provides a relaxing 30-minute escape from walking on cobblestone streets. The canal network allows visitors to see the city's beauty from the water, making it an essential part of any Bruges itinerary.
We take train from Brussels to Bruges. It was convenient and traveling time is alright….enjoy natural views. From Train station, we walk to Bruges…so magnificent traditional town. Love much boat tour along the canal across this town. Need at least 3 hrs for visiting this nice place …by walking or by the carriage. Many shops , restaurants, out door market.. recommend
Kanokenath S — Google review
For the price its pretty decent. About a half hour boat ride through the canals. Tour guide was just there. The information given out is by pre recorded audio tracks in 3 languages including English and Spanish while the boat driver pointed quickly at things. They also pack you onto the boats. So overall for the price you get a decent boat ride through the canals.
Brendan S — Google review
The canal tour is an enjoyable way of seeing Bruges. The boats are quite crowded but the seats were comfy and we had great views of everything. The commentary is very basic, it starts in English and then repeated in French. The tour lasts 30 minutes and is a great way to see the Bruges from the canals.
Val B — Google review
Absolute highlight of our visit to Bruges. The boat tour was the perfect way to take in the beauty of the city from the water. Cruising through the canals gave us a fresh perspective on the medieval buildings, ivy covered walls and quiet courtyards. The guide shared just enough history to keep it interesting without taking away from the experience. It was peaceful, scenic and surprisingly intimate even though it is a well known attraction. If you are visiting Bruges, do not skip this. It is a memory that stays with you and gives you some of the best photos from your trip.
Kristen — Google review
Unfortunately, I did not enjoy this boat tour at all. The audio from the speaker was unpleasantly loud with way too much bass. More importantly, the driver failed to warn us to mind our heads before going under a low bridge, which felt unsafe. The driver also struggled to navigate, having to go back and forth just to get under a bridge. Overall, it was a poor experience, and I cannot recommend it.

August 2025: 'Dirk' our boat Captain was fantastic. Very engaging. €15 for 30 minutes and well worth it. Very historic, factual and informative. Even suggested his favourite bar down a 600 year old street (De Gerre) where they serve cheese with the house beer (Tripel van De Garre) and only play classical music. Dirk.would make an amazing walking tour guide and spoke many languages. He was engaging and took his time talking to us all.
Mike773 U — Google review
I had a really disappointing experience on the canal boat, and honestly, it felt like a waste of money. The captain was quite rude and made me sit in the middle, which resulted all my photos ended up with other people faces. It felt the company was more interested in making money than in ensuring we had a good time. I couldn’t even taking a picture of myself in this ride.
Rashid A — Google review
A very positive experience. It's a great way to have a look and feel of Bruges. The captain acts like a tour guide too with interesting facts about the city and a great sense of humor! Absolutely recommended

Apotheek Sint-Janshospitaal, originally an infirmary and refuge in the 12th century, evolved into a fully functioning hospital for over 800 years. The former hospital now houses a small exhibition featuring the pharmacy where medicines and patient aids were once produced on-site. Visitors can stroll through the beautiful gardens with medicinal herbs and admire a statue of two monks. Despite its quick visit, it's described as a splendid place to experience.
Worth to visit only if you have the Museum Day Pass, as it’s really small, can be finished in 5 minutes. Part of the Saint John Hospital, this is the Pharmarcy.

The gallery offers an immersive experience, inviting visitors to explore the wonderfully whimsical world of Salvador Dalí's surrealism. From mind-boggling paintings that defy the laws of physics to thought-provoking sculptures challenging the essence of reality, this exhibition promises a truly unique and surreal journey.
Very impressive. I learnt a lot about Dali & the immersive was a wild experience. A must do.

Only ten euro in, good value given the quality and quantity of material on display. There's an extensive audio guide available for two euro, which is worthwhile as most pieces don't contain titles or explanatory notes. The content is obviously exceptional, but my main criticism here is that the light is just too bright. Some better lighting would really help pick out more detailed items, Additionally, the signs and audio descriptions don't always seem to match with what is displayed nearby, although the audio descriptions are good in most instances. In all, great content and really friendly staff, but some better finishing touches would really boost this.

It’s an ok museum, spent a while there. You have to buy an audio guide as there’s not really much text plus it’s only €2. Learnt a lot about Dali.

Surreal experience dedicated to works of art by Salvador Dali. Even from the start, the use of mirrors adds that surrealist effect. Then while wandering, one can see the Spanish painters drafts, thought processes, and statues as visualizations of his works. It costs 10€ to enter and there isn't as much as I would hope to see inside, but I would recommend paying tor the audio guide if one wants to learn moee

The exhibition was interesting, but I strongly recommend changing the interior. The gold paint, all those patterns like even leopard-print and neons are not the best idea for art background. It’s definitely distracting attention from real art. Except of that the visit was very nice and everyone should consider going!
Julia — Google review
Rather small exhibit. There's not that much pieces to see and the pieces that are there could be better showcased. There isn't much explanations given next to the pieces, and while there are spots to use an audio-guide, I wasn't offered one (apparently you need to pay 2€ for it — the receptionist did not make me aware of this). Not worth the 10€, in my opinion.

Boniface Bridge (Bonifaciusbrug) is a charming early-20th-century pedestrian bridge that offers romantic views of the canal and the town. Located near the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, it is one of Bruges' most photographed spots. The area around the bridge, including Arents Courtyard, provides picturesque scenes with its historic buildings and horse-drawn carriages.
The Bonifacius Bridge (Bonifaciusbrug) is one of the most charming and romantic spots in Bruges, tucked away behind the Church of Our Lady. Despite its medieval appearance, the bridge is relatively recent, dating back to the early 20th century. Its quaint stone structure, ivy-covered surroundings, and views of historic buildings and canals give it an enchanting, timeless atmosphere. The bridge crosses a peaceful canal where swans often glide, framed by old brick facades and overhanging trees. It’s a favorite stop for photographers, couples, and tourists seeking that fairy-tale feel Bruges is known for. From the bridge, you can admire the picturesque rear view of the Gruuthuse Palace and the canal-side architecture that defines the city. Though not grand in size or age, Bonifacius Bridge captures the magical essence of Bruges—quiet, beautiful, and steeped in the illusion of history.
Tiago C — Google review
Beautiful, picturesque bridge overlooking part of the city, however was absolutely swarmed with tourists when I visited. There were around thirty or so people trying to get on this tiny bridge all at once. Kinda makes you feel sorry for the locals that this is what they have to deal with on a daily basis.
Luke B — Google review
It is a subtle but romantic gem of Bruges, built in the early 20th century. Although it is one of the newest bridges in the city, exudes an air of an older romance — brick and stone, historic architectural elements and scenes that look like they came out of a fairy tale. The surrounding area — with channels that reflect the beautiful old houses and the majestic Cathedral of our lady — gives a unique photographic moments. A special element is the local tradition: they say that whoever you see first passing the bridge, is the one with whom you marry — a charming element that intensifies the magic of the visit It is no coincidence that it is considered one of the most photographed bridges of Bruges, and is often referred to as 'the central romantic spot' of the city. A piece of advice; Visit it early in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the crowds and enjoy the magical light of the city. At the same time, the bridge though small and narrow, passes unnoticed for the age of the — the simplicity, however, makes it perfectly fit the medieval setting of Bruges. It is a point where the romantic atmosphere, the story, the photogenic beauty and the sweet local traditions meet. In addition, the location — between the Cathedral of the Virgin mary and the area of Gruuthuse — makes it a perfect stop on walks, but also ideal background for yearbook pictures from Bruges.
Dimitris — Google review
If you go there early you can avoid the crowd. During the day time there usually is a line up for taking pictures.

Boniface Bridge (Bonifaciusbrug) is truly one of the hidden gems of Bruges. Nestled right in the heart of the city. Located over a quiet river and surrounded by houses and trees, the view from the bridge is absolutely breathtaking. It’s a peaceful spot despite being in the center of Bruges, and it offers one of the most picturesque scenes in the city. Perfect for photos or just a quiet moment. If you’re exploring Bruges, don’t miss this bridge, it’s one of those places that captures the spirit and charm of the city perfectly.

Sint-Janshuismolen is a historic windmill located in Bruges, originally built in 1770 and still grinding flour to this day. It is one of the four original windmills remaining in the region and stands as a testament to its economic significance in the 19th century. Visitors can explore this local monument, with the chance to witness it in action on windy days.
One of the 4 beautiful windmills of Bruges, the Sint Janshuismolen is the only one where grains are ground to this day! Established in 1770, it was associated with an important economic function. Visually captivating, with serenity all around. After paying a nominal admission fee, one can see the mill in action (provided the winds are favourable). The thrill of climbing up the steep stairs, and experiencing the sway of the structure when the winds are strong and the blades are rotating is absolutely awesome. The millers are kind and professional. It's another educating experience to watch them setting up the machinery (just before the opening time). A must must visit for sure!

The Diamond Museum, located in Bruges, Belgium, is housed in a modern building and showcases the city's rich history with diamonds. It delves into the medieval diamond industry of Bruges and its significance as one of the earliest diamond polishing centers in the world. The museum features unique attractions such as tiny diamond sculptures that require a magnifying glass to appreciate fully. Visitors can also witness daily demonstrations of diamond polishing, which draw enthusiastic crowds.
Found about the museum from an old tourist book, and had just the time to visit while on a short tour around beautiful Bruges. Exhibition is a nice introduction to fascinating history and technology of diamonds craft. The most fun part was the presentation of the machining and polishing. The young lady was very knowledgable and passionate about the process, and made the visit a memorable experience.

This is a very well laid out interesting museum about diamonds at which we learned a great deal about the subject and felt we got very good value for money. After the self guided tour we attended the polishing demonstration and felt that this was the most interesting part of the trip. Well worth a visit. It was not crowded at the time of our attendance and felt much less of a tick box tourist money earner than some part of the city.
Toby B — Google review
It is not a big museum, rather a kind of boutique museum, but it offers a very interesting and informative tour about the history and value that Diamonds acquired for humans through history. It is very important to attend the cutting and polishing demonstration provided only at 12.15 every day, which is the only place where you are allowed to take pictures during the visit. At the souvenir store, I found a nice book : " Diamonds ", written by Marijan Dundek, with a lot of verified information and many nice photos.

The Old Chocolate House is a charming family-run shop and tearoom in Bruges, known for its homemade hot chocolate, truffles, gingerbread, cookies, tea, and coffee. Started by Francoise Thomaes, the cozy atmosphere is adorned with photos of family members and regular patrons. With about 20 varieties of hot chocolate to choose from, it has become a go-to spot for locals and visitors alike.
This was such a cute find in Bruges! We were able to customize our hot cocos: %s of white, milk and dark chocolates. All the material came in a tray and we were given whisks ti mix it into a large cup of milk. We also tried 2 of their waffles and tea- everything was delicious.

Kayleigh W — Google review
We ordered two hot chocolates: Costa Rica (for my husband, since he is lactose intolerant) and Venezuela for me. Honestly, this was the best hot chocolate I’ve ever had in my life – rich, smooth, and so comforting. It gave me such a warm and cozy feeling. What makes this place truly special is that they let you make your own hot chocolate step by step. Mixing the chocolate into the hot milk myself was such a unique and fun touch. It made me appreciate what I was drinking on a deeper level, almost like a little ritual. The chocolate itself is high quality and full of flavor, though I did notice a high amount of cocoa butter, which makes it feel a little heavy after a while. Still, it was absolutely delicious and worth it. The atmosphere is very inviting – somewhere between a luxury café and a family kitchen – and it felt authentic, like stepping back in time. Overall, I highly recommend this place if you want to experience authentic hot chocolate in a cozy but elegant setting. It’s not cheap, but the quality and the experience make it worth every cent.

We visited this place with high expectations as it’s said to serve the best hot chocolate but honestly we didn’t like it that much. It was just ok ok. You have to place at least one order per person. Gentpoort is one of the four surviving medieval city gates in Brugge, Belgium. These gates not only served as defensive structures but also regulated trade and traffic in and out of the city. The massive scale of these gates provides a glimpse into the grandeur of the ancient city walls that once enclosed Brugge. A visit to Gentpoort offers a fascinating insight into the historical significance and architectural marvels of old Brugge.
This magnificent guard tower from the 1200s still holds a dominating presence! Recommended to see at night as it’s so wonderfully lit up, just remember it is actively used so bikes and cars are going through and around it. A shame you can’t go inside, but it’s a wonderful thing to go by as part of a tour around the ring of Bruges.

Once a monastery garden, it now features romantic walkways, shady trees, and beautifully manicured gardens. The park boasts picturesque ponds with fountains and is adorned with kiosks and statues. Visitors can relax on comfortable benches while admiring old tall trees and observing ducks and swans in the pond.

This place features in the film ‘In Brugge’. It’s a wonderful and small open area, with playground, bandstand, fountain with pond and ample green space to have picnics and a good amount of benches if you just want to relax and not chase the world. Located centrally it was very peaceful.

A peaceful park away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. You can find some peace and quiet here. It has a bit of a romantic feel to it. With the ornate gazebo and the fountain with the bronze statue in the pond. Lovely place to have a picnic or little can enjoy.

Not only is this beautiful park mentioned in the iconic movie In Bruges, it’s serene and hosts some of the most wonderful events featuring local food growers, gift makers and beer brewers. They also sometimes have musicians but check out the park whether or not there’s an event as it’s beautiful even all on its own.

A peaceful and well kept garden in the heart of the city. It features benches, shaded corners, and open green areas where people can rest, read, or simply enjoy some quiet time. Concertgebouw Brugge is a modern venue with sleek architecture that hosts a variety of events including concerts, dance performances, plays, and art exhibits. The large red concert hall was completed in 2002 during Bruges' time as the European Capital of Culture. Despite its controversial modern design, the venue is known for its high-quality programming.
Stunning architecture. From the acoustics to the architectural details, this building is truly a magnificent piece of work. Almost every angle, every picture window, every square hole, materials used, architectural details were carefully thought out. The people of Brugge and its concert visitors are extremely privileged to have this concert hall accessible. I highly recommend for anyone interested in music and architecture to visit, attend a performance or take the tour. This is truly a gem and wish that it be part of the top 5 must-see in Brugge.

Great venue for a concert. I went there to appreciate a classical music concert and my experience was very good. The venue has multiple rooms and plenty of space.
Deric ( — Google review
we attended a performance of beethoven’s 9th and it was powerful and absolutely lovely. the acoustics were decent, though i personally wished the sound had been a bit louder to really feel the full impact. the concert hall itself is sleek and modern — a bit too modern for my taste, honestly. i’d have loved something with a more vintage charm and warmer colors. but that’s just me, of course :)
Anna ( — Google review
We went to the Kim Wilde closer concert and the audio balancing didn't do justice to her voice and band with the acoustic environment being so much louder than her voice. What a great disappointment. Kim wilde was great though make no mistake.
B J — Google review
Nice place, good location, huge car parking. Building itself is modern, not impressive at all in my opinion. Interior boring. Seats are, comfortable, the level between raws is good, can see everything.
Sandra — Google review
Good modern concert hall, there is an interesting tour around it for adults and for children and there is the access to the roof with the best view to the old city (I have climed all the towers in Bruges, so I tell this with all my experience and responsibility).
Dasha P — Google review
The minimalist concrete architecture and interior will not suit everyone's taste, but the acoustics of the concert venue are excellent and amongst the best Belgium has to offer. Highly recommended if you care for sound dynamics. Be aware this is a large venue and central seats on the 2nd balcony are far away from the stage. The best seats are central on 'parterre' which is the ground floor, hence these seats are also the most expensive ones.

Castle Loppem, a stunning neo-Gothic structure located just 10km south of Bruges, offers visitors a fairytale-like experience. Built in the mid-19th century, it boasts original interiors adorned with religious-themed decorations and impressive artwork. The castle's English garden features a captivating hedge maze that adds to its enchanting ambiance. Once home to King Albert and even hosting Queen Elizabeth in 1918, the castle has a rich history.
Really beautiful gardens and view from the outside. It’s free if you just explore the gardens, didn’t go inside. Worth viewing from the outside. There’s safe parking area. Would definitely recommend visiting if you’re wanting to do something for free. You do have to pay to go inside though. Very peaceful here.

Seemed an innocuous castle but once we got in we learned just how involved it was for WW1 history. Also a great demonstration of what happens with successive generations, and what must be done. Beautiful grounds, wonderful castle, and an excellent recording of the human condition over multiple centuries.

Amazing castle. Great family history. Well preserved and run museum and collection. Nice gardens worth spending an hour or so.
AZ — Google review
We recently visited Castle Loppem and were struck by its beauty. The grounds are lovely, and the outside of the castle in particular is stunning — it really has that fairytale quality you hope for when visiting a historic site. Inside, we found things a little underwhelming, though that may simply come down to personal taste. What really stood out, however, was the thoughtful touch of allowing children to dress up as knights, kings, or princesses. Our child absolutely loved it, and it added so much liveliness and fun to the visit. One thing we missed was the option for food and drinks. With such a charming location and atmosphere, a small café or terrace for tea would elevate the experience enormously. The only real sour note was the lavatory, which was unfortunately in a state that can only be described as “historically authentic in all the wrong ways.” A bit of attention here would make a big difference. Overall, a beautiful castle and grounds with a lot of potential to become an even more magical outing.

Jan van Eyckplein, also known as Jan Van Eyck Square, is a charming medieval square in Bruges named after the famous Flemish oil painter Jan Van Eyck. Jan van Eyckplein is a picturesque square in the heart of Bruges, Belgium, named after the renowned Flemish painter Jan van Eyck. The square is situated at the intersection of Academiestraat, Spiegelrei, and Spanjaardstraat, and is renowned for its historical significance and architectural beauty. At the center of the square stands a statue of Jan van Eyck, created in 1878 by sculptor Hendrik Pickery. This statue commemorates the artist's contributions to the Northern Renaissance. Surrounding the square are several notable buildings: the Poortersloge (Burghers’ Lodge), a late 14th-century building that once served as a meeting place for Bruges' elite merchants. It later housed the Academy of Fine Arts and currently hosts art exhibitions. The Tolhuis (Old Tollhouse) is a late Gothic structure dating back to 1477, originally used to collect tolls from goods entering Bruges. The building features a distinctive polychrome coat of arms and is now part of the city's architectural heritage. Jan van Eyckplein offers a serene atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for leisurely walks and photography. Its blend of historical architecture and artistic heritage reflects the rich cultural tapestry of Bruges.

On a recent visit in late March 24 it was very quite and plenty of time to admire the views and architecture of this wonderful place. Bruges is certainly the Jewel in Belgium's crown. This statue is of Jan van Eyck. He was a pioneer in use of oil paint, very detailed and realistic work. The square is surrounded by many eateries and there are plenty of lanes and avenues to explore at your leisure. Im sure in the height of summer there are stalls, tables and chairs everywhere and very busy so i was fortunate to go on a quite day. There is a bus stop right next to the statue and a water fountain for free water.

Sint-Salvatorskathedraal, also known as Saint Saviours Cathedral, is a Gothic masterpiece located in the heart of Old Town. This 1300s cathedral boasts a mighty tower and cavernous interior adorned with noted Flemish art. Inside, visitors can marvel at unique organs, historic tombs, and a rich collection of Flemish paintings. The cathedral's Neo-Romanesque and Gothic architecture is complemented by tall stained glass windows and beautiful side gardens.
Amazing architecture, great interior and such huge cathedral. One can see paining dated back 1625 and so. Altar is fantastic too. Great stained window patterns and very nice ceiling and chandeliers add beauty to the church . Light choir playing in a ground makes the surroundings more divine . A must visit place !

Kruispoort gate is one of the four remaining medieval city gates in Bruges, Belgium. Dating back to the early 15th century, it has been well-preserved through various renovations. This historic structure was a vital entry point and played a significant role in the city's defense system. The gate is situated along a canal that once served as both a moat and a connection to the sea.
This and the area around it are picture perfect. Not a usual touristy place in Brugge but a must place to go to. Two windmills nearby on top of small hillocks and the river flowing by. It was a bright and sunny day and we thoroughly enjoyed going there. Highly recommended.

I went for a walk when i arrived in town, and i came to this gate. -One of the old gates of the city across the canal. -The gate itself has only one lane of car trafic going through it, and its not large enough for a pedestrian to walk inside too, but there is sidewalks around the outside. -looks great from all sides, and there is 2 windmills nearby -There is a outdoor urinal there too.

Kruispoort is one of the historic city gates originally built as part of the second ring of ramparts surrounding the city near the end of the 13th-century. It is located on the east end of the Historic Centre of Bruges and is open to pedestrian, bicycle and vehicle use. Kruispoort is in good condition and is a nice example of Medieval architecture on display in Bruges. Historically, the original gate was destroyed by the Ghent Militia in 1382 and then rebuilt in the early 14th century with front turrets, two heavy towers and narrow centre passage. This is how you see Kruispoort to this day. Interestingly, in addition to the Gentenaars, Napoleon as well as the German army both entered Bruges through Kruispoort during their respective eras. In the end, Kruispoort is a nice historical structure from the Middle Ages and is worth spending time to visit, especially if you have worked your way through the famous attractions and are looking for less visited places around the historic city centre. Note that you can also see the 4 windmills of Bruges before or after seeing Kruispoort. These start just north of the city gate.

The Lumina Domestica museum is an interesting place that explores the history of interior lighting. There are many medieval and modern lamps on display, as well as a great collection of lamps from all over the world. The exhibition could be improved though with more details on oil lamps and less focus on electric lighting.
Lumina is housed in the same museum as the Chocolate Museum in Bruges. It only costs an extra €4 which is a real bargain. The museum takes the visitor through the history of lighting and consists of one man's collection of over 6,500 lamps from the earliest rough stone prehistoric lamps through to highly decorative candlesticks and oil lamps from the 20th century. There are also very early light-bulbs and lighting-related advertising. When you think about it, the ability to light our homes probably changed human lives than almost anything else, so it's fascinating to see how technologies (and lighting efficiency) changed over the centuries, thus allowing us to do more in the dark hours. Now we enjoy bright light 24 hours a day if required, so imagine what it was like for people when they were first able to bring a dim and feeble glow into their homes that allowed them to extend their leisure and working hours. The collection is extraordinary and will appeal to anyone who loves archaeology, antiques, the history of interiors, product design or technology. There is an extensive display of Roman oil lamps, and wonderful medieval lamps in various styles and designs. The displays are well-presented in this modern museum that is located in one of the historic buildings of Bruges. If you're feeling a bit overwhelmed by the busy city streets and local attractions then you should wander round Lumina as it's a rarely visited gem. When we went, the part of the building that is The Chocolate Story was nicely busy, however we looked round Lumina all by ourselves - not one other visitor was to be seen. When we mentioned this to the woman at the reception desk she told us that the chocolate museum routinely had about 500 visitors a day, whereas a good day attendance at Lumina was only 5 or 6 people. Yes, you read that right... 5 or 6 individuals. Very sad. We do hope it won't have to close.
Alison J — Google review
One of my favourite museums in Bruges - underrated. Several floors displaying different eras of lamps and lighting. Very informative with a vast interesting selection. This is part of the chocolate museum which was really busy, therefore it was good having the whole lamp museum to ourselves.
Nilvanta K — Google review
Great collection of lamps from all over the world. Fascinating to see. It could be improved though with less of the exhibition on oil lamps and instead more grouping and details on the decorative art eras of modern lighting. Looks like exhibition hasn't been updated since 2014 as the section on fluroescent, LEDs, lasers is very rushed at the end.
Emmanuel G — Google review
Really great museum hidden inside choco story. I enjoyed looking at the different styles of lamps and some of the early electric lighting that was on display.

Waste of time. Bizarre place that seems to exist solely to indulge in the owner’s hoarding habit. Creepy mannequins hidden throughout are completely out of place, unnecessary and just plain odd. There are so many more places to go in Bruges, skip this one.

But we highly recommend a visit. Theres so much to see and the info is so interesting.. light through time from fire to modern day sources. Great if weather isnt so good. It was empty when we went which was such a shame as we found it more interesting than the very good chocolate story. We are older so that may have a bearing on our likes. Great visit.

Huidenvettersplein, also known as Tanners Square, is a charming and intimate medieval square located between the Fish Market and the Rosary Quay in Bruges. It offers a delightful atmosphere with its many terraces where visitors can enjoy delicious meals and drinks. The square is popular among tourists who stroll along its historic cobblestone paths.
So many wonderful delights in the Huidenvettersplein. Great shops for lace and chocolate, restaurants with pleasant outdoor seating in the courtyard, even a statue reminiscent of a mercat cross. Beautiful, historic, iconic area of incredible Bruges. I never did discover the identity of the extraordinary edifice across the canal, but it was breathtakingly beautiful and I simply have to include photos. One photo shows large numbers 1614 and I will assume that is the date of the construction. The "corner" of the canal with the massive trees is quite possibly the most iconic view of all of Bruges. Such an incredible scene!

Huidenvettersplein is an atmospheric small square situated at the turn in Dijver Canal. The square dates back to the middle ages and was the site of leather processing until the 15th century. Today the square is lined with restaurants, many with outdoor seating, creating more of a courtyard feel to Huidenvettersplein. An interesting monument to see here is the very old stone column which is topped by the figure of two lions behind a shield. Huidenvettersplein is located just a few minutes from important sightseeing areas of Markt and Burg Square. You can easily include a walk through the square while wandering this beautiful area of Bruges.

De Burg, also known as the Burg Square, is a historic cobblestone plaza in Bruges surrounded by grand Gothic buildings, stores, bars, and eateries. It served as the administrative center of medieval Bruges and showcases stunning Gothic architecture that reflects the city's magnificence and wealth during that period. The square is home to significant landmarks such as Belgium's oldest town hall, the Stadhuis, which has retained its original 1376 design.

De Burg is one of the oldest and most historically significant squares in Bruges, located just a short walk from the famous Market Square. Once the site of a fortified castle dating back to the 9th century, it became the political and administrative heart of the city. Today, De Burg is surrounded by a remarkable collection of architectural styles, reflecting Bruges’ long and rich history. Highlights include the City Hall (Stadhuis), a stunning Gothic building from the 14th century, the Basilica of the Holy Blood, which houses a relic believed to contain the blood of Christ, and the Old Civil Registry, a fine example of Renaissance architecture. The square’s peaceful ambiance, intricate facades, and historic significance make it a must-see for anyone visiting Bruges. The Torture Museum Oude Steen Brugge is located in one of Europe's oldest prisons, De Oude Steen. It has been transformed into a museum showcasing over 100 torture and execution instruments from different historical periods. The museum offers a spine-chilling look into the ancient practice of torture, providing insight into the city's history of law and order. Visitors can wander through the exhibit to learn about the origins of torture and reflect on the balance between justice and violence.
If you're into medieval history, this museum is for you. It's quite a short visit, probably an hour if you read all the descriptions. There are many different torture devices, from your classic stocks to the iron maiden. The models look terrifying as well, like you almost feel their pain. At the end, there's a torture cell that turns you into the prisoner for a split second, with a dripping sound of agony echoing within the walls. The ticket was not expesive at all. 9€ per person. There's also a witchcraft extension to the museum. And if you visit in January, you'll be alone in the museum.

Great way to learn about the history of torture! We spent a good 2 hours reading the information provided with the displays.
Amy W — Google review
This collection is absolutely captivating, filled with lots of background info about the items and their stories. The price is reasonable, and you can easily spend about an hour checking it out. My main concern was the cramped space - when they allow too many visitors at once, it turns into a total bottleneck in front of each display. You can't move around, reading anything becomes a challenge, and you end up just shuffling from one piece to another, hoping someone will move aside. Nevertheless, the actual content is truly intriguing.
Fazil B — Google review
I visited both this museum and the wichcraft one, the cost was 12€ for both with a student ID. It is fun if you like morbid stuff like this, they don't have the best statues demonstrating but it is quite fun
Sara R — Google review
Very nice to experience. We went to a torture museum in Amsterdam but this one is much better. Very educational with easy to read plaques that are detailed and informative. The wax sculptures are very life-like. We also received a student discount which made it even more worth the price of admission.
Jessica G — Google review
Fun and educational. Mannequins are great. Not a huge museum, takes about half an hour. Witchcraft museum which was attached was not worth the money at all, mostly just information written on the walls, hardly anything to look at.
Ellie O — Google review
A very interesting experience. I went in not really knowing what to expect; I was hesitant to begin with as I was unsure if the experience would be scary or not. It turned out to be quite the opposite, it wasn't scary at all. It was great getting to learn about all the different types of torture devices, some of which were unbelievably cruel and inhumane. This is definitely a very different museum, in a way though it's refreshing to see a museum take on a much darker subject that people deserve to learn more about.

Boudewijn Seapark, located in Bruges, is a family-friendly theme park offering a variety of attractions and entertainment. Visitors can enjoy dolphin and seal shows at the dolphinarium, as well as experience old-time carnival rides and a wild river adventure. The park also features Bobo's Indoor, an indoor playing paradise with numerous attractions for children under 12. Additionally, there is a mini-golf course, playgrounds, and an outdoor attractions park by the large lake.
I’m not sure why there are so many negative reviews. It’s a nice park, lots of green space and very relaxing to enjoy the day. The shows are great and there are some fun rides to enjoy with your family. There are things being updated which is nice. I took my son both days this weekend to enjoy it and he had an amazing time. I was really happy we made it before the end of the summer season and look forward to coming again. Worth while buying the annual pass, it’s the same cost as 2 visits so why not. There’s also a fun water park open in the summer for kids to enjoy. No waits for many rides, which often ruins your time when you visit an amusement park. There is a cost difference between here, Plopsaland, and Disneyland Paris so you can imagine the quantity and investment in the park. I don’t want to come across negative but you can’t really compare those to here. But this is a nice place to go to not have to stress about lines, costs and overcrowded areas. Really friendly staff, I found it to be a really relaxing and pleasant weekend here. Worth coming to visit, especially during the summer season!
Andrew M — Google review
Not a great attractions park, especially for children bigger than 12. The dolphin show was really good, otherwise the parking looks like in need of some refurbishment.
Cezar N — Google review
We really enjoyed with the kids , nice park with outdoor playgrounds for kids, nice shows , and nice walk around the green areas. Recommend it for any travelers visiting Brugge with kids 👦
Zahra A — Google review
It’s a nice way to spend the day, perfect for kids of any age . The shows are great and the personal very kind . Only thing that I didn’t like it’s that tha toilets are not so clean .
Ionut E — Google review
Great day with Grandparents and a 5 year old, everyone had fun. Animal shows were really good, large indoor soft play and rides area perfect on a rainy day. Also fun outdoor rides when the weather breaks. Great looking outdoor water play area too if you hit a sunny day. The indoor area is new and in great condition, as are the show areas. Wouldn't be good with older kids, but for, I'd say up to 8, the rides are great, and the shows are good for the adults. Food was also OK and reasonably priced.
Iestyn M — Google review
Older park, but still very fun. Sealion and Dolphin show are the highlights of the park Very nice park for a family day. The shows are the main events of the park. Very nicely done and with great respect for the animals. The themepark rides are also a lot of fun, but don't expect too much. It's like a good old funfair. Staff was really friendly and the prices for foods and drinks are comparable or cheaper than what you would pay at the coast. The park might have lost a bit of it"s glory, but for children under 5, it's really a very fun day out. (Not that many attractions for children older than 6) Try to go when you can get a reduction code or something. We will probably go again when we're in the area
Nigel F — Google review
Good shows / education with dolphins, seals and sea lions. Rest of the amusement park great for kids up to 10 yr, but in need of maintenance.
Tony W — Google review
The ticket price is far too high for what the park offers, especially compared to similar places. The food is very poor in quality and overpriced. The few attractions in the park are only suitable for children under 8–9 years old. You can see and do everything in at most one hour. The presentation is a joke — it lasts 10 minutes and nothing actually happens. The only attraction worth seeing is the dolphin show. We visited once, and we will certainly never return. It’s a waste of both money and time.

Ezelpoort is one of the four remaining medieval city gates in Bruges, each strategically positioned to control trade and traffic. These gates, including Ezelpoort, not only served as defensive structures but also regulated the flow of goods in and out of the city. The grand scale of these gates offers a glimpse into the imposing city walls that once encircled Bruges. Visitors can admire the picturesque surroundings, with serene waters where swans gracefully glide despite mild weather conditions.

Nice spot for a walk, nothing more. You’ll see ducks and geese, and it’s a good place to take some pretty photos.
Olga K — Google review
It is one of the most magical and peaceful places in the city. The combination of the graphic of water, the stone bridge and the rich vegetation creates an atmosphere of tranquility and romance. It is the ideal place for a leisurely stroll, away from the crowded tourist spots, offering unique opportunities for photos and relaxing. Historic, authentic, and just fabulous – definitely worth a visit.

Great location, very cool historical building along the outskirts of Bruges. It's near the canal that leads out to the sea. Cool spot chill if you have been walking around the parameter of the city!

I have been to Bruges twice and this gate always is a welcome to me. Although there is not much around, it is a beautiful site and great to see the waterway with wild animals; such as geese.
Gabriel G — Google review
Ezelpoort (Donkey's Gate) is a historic city gate situated at the end of Ezelstraat in the northwest section of the Historic Centre of Bruges. It is open for pedestrian and bicyclers but not to vehicles. Originally built as part of the second ring of ramparts at the end of the 13th century, Ezelpoort was redesigned and altered several times over the centuries. This entry gate was last restored between 1991-93. It is mostly surrounded by water and makes for beautiful photographs, especially when sky conditions are good. In the end, Ezelpoort is a bit isolated from the main sightseeing area in Bruges. However, it is an interesting attraction to make time for if you've done the rounds and are wanting to see lesser known places to visit around the Bruges.

LAGO Brugge Olympia is a fantastic destination for both families and individuals looking to cool off in Bruges. The facility boasts a 50-meter pool with ten lanes, catering to swimmers of all ages. Additionally, there are water slides for kids and saunas for adults seeking relaxation. Visitors can also enjoy an indoor and outdoor Olympic-sized pool along with a wave pool, making it the perfect spot to beat the summer heat.
Clean and tidy. It is a little crowded on Fridays because a large number of children come to the sports pool. I was only in the sports pool, which I recommend.

Amazing! We visited with my kids whilst on holiday. They have a log flume, rainbow slides with lights, slides with inflatables, a wave machine, mermaid outfits with flippers, inflatable floating assault course in the big pool, family changing rooms and clean facilities with modern lockers. Awesome.
Chris T — Google review
It was a great experience for us. We went there a little early, around 12 PM as it gets very busy in the afternoon. There are big family lockers (near toilet/shower area) but very limited family changing rooms. Overall the water experience was great and kids enjoyed it a lot. It was mostly indoor, even the big slides were accessible from inside and they bring you back inside, so no need to worry about the weather. We also used the sauna and steam rooms and those were quite good for relaxing. Large Olympic size swimming pool if you want to swim laps. The inside cafe is very small and it takes a long time to get your order ready. There is a baby diaper changing tables near the cafe inside so you don't have to go to the changing rooms. Overall great experience and highly recommended.
Bharat B — Google review
I visited the swimming pool with a friend. Right after arriving, we found out that the showers don't have hot water, only cold water. In dry saunas you have to have a towel, which makes no sense at all, because the seats are wet with or without a towel, but they still kicked us out of the sauna because we didn't have towels. Attractions like the wild river and water slides are more for children only. The water temperature in the bathtubs and pools was quite low. After a long time in the pool, we were cold. You won't find a pool with a rest area, because there are children jumping and splashing everywhere, so we searched in vain for relaxation there. The only advantage was the steam sauna, where you didn't need towels and it was warm. This swimming pool miss a relaxation pool, where you should not jump into the water and splash water on people who have come to relax.
Radoslava P — Google review
We came from Germany to visit this place but they didn’t even let us enter because we had burkinis on. Even after we tried negotiating they still insisted to not let us in. This is very disappointing and not acceptable as burkinis are swimsuits too. We‘ll never be coming back even if he had bikinis on!!!!!

I came a year ago so this post is quite delayed… but forgot about this wonderful pool until I heard a friend was coming to visit Brugges. It is a really nice facility for children. My two children enjoyed the water slides and the waves. We had a lot of fun on the one slide trying to beat the high score of the day.
Carleen P — Google review
We had a great time here. I loved the three different water sides. I loved the one in which you had to hit the targets. The large yellowish open slide was really fun, too. It was actually my favorite one and we did it several times. They have lockers included with the admission. There is a hot tub and sauna outside as well.

Smedenpoort, also known as the Blacksmith's Gate, is one of the four surviving medieval city gates in Bruges. Dating back to 1297-1299 and rebuilt in 1367, it has undergone numerous changes over the centuries. The gate played a crucial role in controlling trade and roads into the city and served as a defensive bastion.
A typical historical building in Bruges/Brugge : one of the original, medieval entrance gates to the town centre.
Pascale S — Google review
The Smedenpoort is one of Bruges’ historic city gates, dating back to the 14th century. Located at the end of Smedenstraat, it has undergone several restorations over the centuries. A notable feature is the bronze skull above the left passage, commemorating a thwarted betrayal in 1691 during the Nine Years’ War. In 2012, pedestrian bridges were added to enhance accessibility while preserving its historical significance.
Dani B — Google review
Impressive entrance to our visit to Bruges. There is an information panel nearby there provides the story why there's a skull on the side facing the town, which makes a useless resting place for local pigeons. Free to view.
Elizabeth B — Google review
The walk around the city where there used to be the walls is breathtaking, just thinking that such a relaxing place exists in a big city is awesome. Plus, all the gate are so nice for a quick break.
Emanuela P — Google review
Lovely to look at. Shame you cannot go in. Walkway is confusing, nearly got ran over by a motorcycle!

The gates of Bruges gave access to the city in medieval times. And today are still there as tourist attractions.

The Smidsepoort, Smedenpoort in Dutch, The Blacksmith's gate in English dates back from 1297-1299. the current gate was built on the remains of the old gate in 1367. The gate has undergone many changes over the centuries. The bronze skull above the left-hand passage recalls the execution of François Vander Straeten, who wanted to let enemy French troops into the city at the end of the 17th century. The severed head of this traitor was attached to the gate. There is no public transport available nearby, the main bus station is at 'tzand square which is on five minutes walkaway. The gate is surrounded by beautiful green park which has walking, jogging and cycling track. The canal flows under the gate and gives a lovely view.

Hans Memling, a German-born master painter, is prominently featured in the Groeninge museum alongside other Flemish Masters like Jan van Eyck and Gerard David. The museum offers a perfect rainy day activity with its sumptuous collection of dramatic works capturing the cosmopolitan nature of Bruges in its medieval heyday. In addition to his representation at the museum, there is also a square dedicated to him in the German Quarter of Bruges.
Found out about this artist via geocaching and the very wonderful and super fun Geocaching series set up by the local council and other passionate people, which I recommend all do! This little spot was really peaceful and the statue is nicely made. A great corner of Brugge with ample seating and history.

The former hospital has been transformed into an events center that regularly hosts cultural exhibits and events. Visitors can admire works by modern artists such as Picasso, Miró, and Chagall while also exploring remnants from the 12th-century infirmary including medical equipment, hospital rooms, and the pharmacy.

Didn't really know what to expect from this museum but I was really pleasantly surprised. It was super quiet when we went so no dodging tourists :) one of my highlights of Bruges. Lots of history, interesting pieces of art and all in a historic building. We paid extra to see the Warhol work but not sure I'd recommend that as much.. It's very small in comparison to the work of Picasso.
James C — Google review
It is on the pricier side around €2/hr. But very close to the streets of Brugge. If you don't mind walking 1-2km more, then there are cheaper places around. Easy to get in. The payment station is at the back of the parking.
Abhijith M — Google review
Great museum exhibiting Picasso's lesser known works and passions, including pottery, drawings, etchings, and collaborations. Housed in a former hospital. There is a coat rack if you need but do know that you will need to go outside very briefly to walk between rooms.

One of the oldest hospitals in the world and one of my favourite spots in Bruges. Quietness in the courtyard year round as many tourists (luckily) just keep on walking straight in the parallel 'souvenir' street. As a museum it's magnificent (and the book shop on of the cheapest).

In my opinion the best museum in Brugge! The interactive nature of the museum allows the kids a little freedom to learn and enjoy the history! We play with the old games and enjoyed a beer in the garden! This was our first museum here and it set the bar that all the others couldn’t quite reach!
Chris O — Google review
The museum was great and interactive. We were also greeted by a cute little cat called Aristide!! He was the best part of the museum and loves to climb on shoulders. I’ll definitely come back just to see him again. So cute
Pearl H — Google review
Fascinating museum with excellent installations depicting the lifestyle and businesses of the area from earlier years. The day I visited a school group was there so it got a bit chaotic but definitely worth checking out if you're interested in history and how people were living on the day to day. It includes a lot esoteric items as well e.g. the kind of games people played (I. love backgammon and they had a set there that was used by a family locally in the 1920's). Also, the kinds of pipes men smoked back in the day. It's very extensive.
Irma Z — Google review
In my opinion it’s the most underrated museum in the whole of Bruges but it’s the best one. We unfortunately were in a rush and couldn’t admire the collection properly. If you have some time, please visit this museum! Especially if you have kids; the whole tour is enriched with activities for the small ones, and it’s super interesting historically speaking. I highly recommend to combine this museum with the visit in the windmill, 5 minutes from here
