Ancient Ruins
Diocletian's Palace, located in Split, Croatia, was built for the Roman emperor Diocletian in the 4th century AD. Although referred to as a palace, it is more like a massive fortress with half of it serving as Diocletian's residence and the rest housing a military garrison. Today, this ancient site is part of Split's historic core and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
This is a must see on split. Drink up the atmosphere and engineering that has made this place last for so long. Great views from the Bell tower of the whole old town and across the bay. Very well priced and signage in English as well as other languages. Can be busy when cruise ships are in but this is just the part of the hustle and bustle of life now in the city of Split.
Lee E — Google review
VIATOR tour on October 6, 2025. Guide was excellent and well informed local.. He willingly answered questions and kept the tour at a decent pace. He also gave updates on Game of Thrones film locations which was an added surprise. There are many stairs and walking can be a challenge. From the cruise port you can see the Palace structure. It is about a 20 minute walk. Follow the waters edge. We were rushed and had to take a cab at a ridiculous gouge of 20 Euro. We had lunch inside the palace walls. Very reasonable and good. We walked back to the cruise shop, no problem. The promenade (Riva) is filled with restaurants, …nice way to spend the afternoon. Recommend that VIATOR have an option of Adult +18, or a Family Tour. The children on our tour were highly distracting and uninterested in this historical tour, otherwise it was a very good 90 minutes.
Brad S — Google review
This was the most beautiful experience! For history nerds, to influencers, to everyday tourists I'd highly recommend the palace. We absolutely loved it! Take advantage of the package deals to see all the sites like the bell tower, crypt and more. Otherwise, incredible food is found inside and outside the walls
Laura W — Google review
If you love old architecture this is for you.The down side is it gets very busy. There are parts that you pay to go in but only if you want. Guided tours are available. Partial wheel chair access. Accessible parking is near by. Market stalls and restaurants also plentiful.
Kevin S — Google review
Beautiful spot in old town of Split. You can spend a few hours walking around, many shops and good restaurants. Use the King's gate and touch on the toe of the statue of the King for good luck.
Vipasiri N — Google review
This palace is a perfect place for your day out if you are willing to witness the amalgamation of history & modernity as this beautiful roman architecture (built in 12th century) has various restaurants & cafes serving lip-smacking food & beverages. Highly recommend 👌🏻
Manish S — Google review
Diocletian’s Palace is a fascinating glimpse into Split’s history and an absolute must-see. We were lucky enough to be staying right next to it, which made exploring the site incredibly easy. Hard to believe this was once the Roman Emperor Diocletian’s retirement home before the empire fell. The Roman influence is still strong throughout the complex, blending beautifully with the Croatian character that came later. The underground ruins are particularly intriguing, but watch your step—the stone stairs are smooth and can be slippery. Climbing the bell tower is another highlight. It’s a bit of a workout, but the panoramic views of Split from the top are breathtaking and well worth the effort. Throughout the palace grounds, you’ll find charming courtyards, little shops, and inviting cafés that make wandering through the area even more enjoyable. Whether you’re a history enthusiast or just love exploring unique places, there’s plenty here to keep you captivated. If you’re visiting Split, make sure this is at the top of your list. It’s not just a historical site; it’s a journey through time with some of the best views in the city.
Regis K — Google review
As someone who loves history, it was very underwhelming. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice bit of history... But, definitely not worth paying for. Not much to see once you do pay, most of the rooms are the same and are mostly empty. See my photos below and you've seen the best parts.

Bacvice Beach in Split, Croatia is a popular destination known for its sandy shore and shallow waters, attracting sunbathers and swimmers alike. The area also offers various dining options such as Caffe-restoran Dvor, Konoba MATONI, and Taboo Beach Bar. Visitors can also explore nearby attractions like Emperor Diocletian's Palace, Sustipan, and Klis Fortress.
A beautiful beach to swim at. If you want to stay on shore it gets full, but there is a huge amount of space in the water at all depths. The beach is sandy so easy to get into and no pain for the feet. As per all Split beaches there are no life guards, but no riptide either. People do jump off the rocks at one end, but note I saw a boy fall and taken to hospital. So be careful.
Antony C — Google review
Our favourite sand beach in Split. Quite crowded but great for families with children (shallow waters). Perfectly refreshing and easy walk to or from the oldtown. Parking available nearby, but can be crowded in the summer / high season. Also, across the street there's another playground for the kids.
Fredrica B — Google review
The beach is very dirty - covered in graffiti, and smelt strongly of urine. The only reason to give two stars is that any coastal view in croatia is pretty. But you're better off sat by the harbour or going elsewhere (like to one of the islands).
Lucie P — Google review
We went early in the morning to avoid the crowds and bring our own coffee just to enjoy the sound of the waves. Black beautiful sandy beach. Showers and shops/bar around. Safe shallow water level and good for family with small children. <3
SYLVIA N — Google review
Was nice that the beach is sand not pebbles but the beaches further around by Marjan are prettier. We arrived pretty early so had plenty of spots to choose from. I imagine it gets packed in the height of summer. There is a cafe/ bar if that's what you're after. There was a changing area and loungers and umbrellas for hire
Rachael T — Google review
The beach is okay, not super pretty but it has sand. It was crowded of course but that’s expected during the high season, there is still enough space to sit and swim. You can rent just a parasol for 15EUR and a bed for 10EUR. A bit expensive but cheaper compared to other beaches in Split. There is a cafe with toilet, the prices of the drinks were reasonable. And a few snack bars just before entering the beach.
Alexandra G — Google review
Sand beach with clear water. The sandy part is a little crowded, but there are stone places with banks where you can enter the sea by stairs. Not many facilities, so bringing your own food and drinks is wise
Irmak Y — Google review
Bačvice Beach is where Split really comes to life. Just a short walk from the Old Town and the ferry port, it’s the city’s most famous beach — lively, family-friendly, and always full of energy. A group of young lads kept flinging sand at me and my kids when we were here, which kind of ruined the vine and almost destroyed my expensive camera. The sand is soft (a rarity in Croatia!) and the shallow water stretches far out, making it perfect for kids to paddle and play safely. Locals gather here from morning to night — swimming, chatting, and playing the traditional game of picigin in the shallows. The atmosphere is relaxed but buzzing, with cafés, ice cream stands, and plenty of space to sit and watch the world go by. It’s not a quiet beach, but it has a wonderful sense of community — a place where tourists and locals blend together under the sun. Ideal for a swim, a stroll, or a lazy afternoon soaking up Split’s seaside spirit.

Forest Park Marjan, located in Split, is a beloved natural oasis offering a serene escape from the city. With its lush pine forests, peaceful walking paths, and breathtaking viewpoints, it perfectly showcases the beauty of the Dalmatian coast. Whether you're into hiking, cycling, or simply admiring the scenic views, Marjan provides a harmonious blend of nature and urban life.
An absolute must-do while in Split if you’re able to walk up hundreds of steps! Loved the gorgeous trees while hiking up to the top of this mountain! Early June was quite hot, however there’s plenty of shade from the trees and a fountain for fresh water at the chapel (half way point) and there’s a lovely beach on the other side to cool you down. There seemed to be a road for those wanting to drive up as well. summer

What a place. Very steep slopes and many, many steps leading up. We were very presently surprised by a ditto train at the peak waiting to take people down to the old town. We hopped on that for the decent, saved a fair walk. If able, it's wonderful lots of nature, plants, and birds to see topped off with a stunning view at the top.plenty of stop breaks and places in the shade. Take a bottle of water with you.
Harri F — Google review
Nice experience, nice view of the city, we had a good wether conditions. Easy to walk with kids, they have also a playground.

A park worth to walk. Olease reserve drinking water and some snacks. Dista nces are not far, but You'll have up and downhill and it's demanding in heat of the sun. There are some water posts (at the old zoo etc.) and the water ia drinkable. There was a modern sightseeing tower and it was free to visit up! And there is a lift You can use, so it' s accessible by wheelchair and baby trolleys! Worth to visit!

Wow! A beautiful park literally 5 minutes from the centre of Split. A church, a zoo, and stunning views over Split as you go. I am sure alot of travellers miss this natural treasure. Grab your self a luch to go in town and walk to the top to eat your lunch overlooking this beautiful city, background music will be provide by the crickets!

The Archaeological Museum in Split is a treasure trove of diverse artifacts housed in an estate-like space with a garden. It features primitive jewelry, tools, mosaics, and historical sculptures from nearby Solin, the precursor to modern-day Split. The museum's collections offer insight into the evolution of technology and enduring human ideas.
Wonderful place for anyone interested in the Roman archaeological finds in this area. An impressive but randomly organised collection of stone carvings displayed around the sides of a quadrangle. Sarcophagi, Headstones etc some as old as first century. A small indoor collection of artifacts in the main building is less interesting with French but no English descriptions. I understand this is because it's sponsored by the French government. In the interior of the quadrangle are reproduced Roman stoneworks; less interesting than the original pieces around the sides. I was amazed to be the only person there during my visit. There are labels on many of the items in English, but for more detailed information you can scan the QR codes for audio.
Miles M — Google review
I loved this place and want to give it five stars but most of the information inside is in Croatian only and not English. The outside takes as much time and is filled with excellent archeological finds from the area. Inside, various rooms are divided into eras and themes. One of the rooms is dedicated to caves that served as retreats and meditation centers which I wish had the information provided in English. I had to use my phone to get an idea of some of the information. Upstairs there are some more modern pieces and history of the building.
Thomas W — Google review
Quite a bad museum to be honest. Their collection is impressive as the nearby roman site is of some significance. Yet, nothing is contextualized and very little is explained. The building housed a small exhibition which when we were there was the best part. Otherwise it's just scattered objects and parked electrical scooters.
Floris H — Google review
The museum currently has a temporary exhibit of burial artifacts inside the building and hundreds of Roman artifacts outside in the main courtyard. The free audio guides (website via QR codes) are very informative and interesting. €8 per adult to enter or €10 for both this museum and the Salona Archeological site.
Chris Y — Google review
Well... When you are used to Italian museums this one has not much to offer. It's just a small garden and 4 rooms on the ground floor. Maybe for the real hardcore fans of Croatian B.C. burial grounds... But always nice to give a small contribution (€8) to the local culture.
Al R — Google review
Interesting place, but some of the exhibitions lack some kind of direction and explanation. Especially the one about the tombstones, an explanation about its content (if they only talk about the person or how they died, why there are no dates, etc.), or the shortcuts like HMHNS or DM. The Medusa exhibition corrected this mistake, but it seemed like it lacked funding. The exhibitions would be nice if they had more depictions, simply showing broken pieces of amphorae and vessels seems lazy. But I believe this is due to the lack of funding. I wish that such important subject that Archeology is ok gets better funding and people have more space to execute finer ideas in the discipline of museum showcasing.
Karel Č — Google review
8 euros is too expensive for such a small museum. Almost nothing inside. If you are interested in Latin inscription and Roman Dalmatian history, it’s a good place. If not, let it go.
Henry Z — Google review
Mixed feelings, the Roman artefacts in the garden are interesting but only some of them are well labelled. The building itself is beautiful but the temporary exhibition inside was small and boring.

Marjan is a popular recreational area located just west of Split, offering stunning city and harbor views from its forested hilltop. It's a favorite spot for locals to take long walks, go biking, or even engage in alpine climbing on the south side of the hill. The area provides a peaceful escape from the bustling city and boasts beautiful viewpoints, ruins, and small churches to explore.
Marjan is a large forest/park in Split. It has a lot of hiking paths on which you can cycle, jog, run, walk and so on.It is truly beautiful and large. With a lot of viewpoints and attractions it is a must to in Split! (Pictures presented are from the top path of Marjan not the bottom)

Marjan Park is a true gem for nature lovers and those seeking a tranquil escape, often referred to as the "lungs of the city," this area offers a serene retreat from the bustling city center. The beaches around Marjan Hill, such as Kašjuni Beach and Bene Beach, are less crowded compared to other popular spots in Split. The secluded coves offer a peaceful environment where the sounds of cicadas can lull you into a state of relaxation better than any lullaby. One of the best ways to enjoy Marjan Beach is by setting up a hammock between the trees, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the natural beauty. For those who prefer a more active holiday, the park is perfect for jogging, cycling, and hiking, especially in the early morning or late evening when the temperatures are cooler.
Miloš R — Google review
The highlight of visiting Split, beautiful place with amazing views all around. It's possible to get there using the Marjan Steps or through the beautiful mountain park surrounding the place.
Muhannad A — Google review
An interesting walk of around 3kms one way to the small church (turn left) just after after the pathway joins the paved road. Although it's not marked in any way this area was where the old zoo was once located some decades back.

Marjan in Split is a beautiful park with cycling trails, walking & running trails. From most sides it is surrounded by Adriatic sea. Some plants which are beneficial for humans & animals can be found there. Ranger is present as well at park!

Marjan hill is a wonderful place to get a panoramic view of the city of Split. The climb is quite easy and the view is worth it. The park is huge and one can spend a lot of time here! Definitely something to do while in Split ! Don't forget to carry food and water and wear comfortable clothes and shoes as Split is quite hot in the summer months !

Froggyland is a unique museum featuring 507 stuffed frogs in 21 scenes, each depicting human-like scenarios. Created by taxidermist Ferenc Mere between 1910 and 1920, the collection showcases everyday situations such as playing sports, attending school, and engaging in various professions. The detailed dioramas portray frogs participating in activities like circus performances, photography, painting, and music.
They were closed for the season, but it looks nice from the outside. I had emailed them and asked if they were open and they let me know we were a day late from visiting Froggyland. Oh well. You can’t win them all. Just most of them. Maybe next time I’m in Croatia!
Keegan R — Google review
Cute spot to visit. Takes about half hour to see and you'll get some chuckles out of it. No pictures allowed inside. Wife and I walked right in and bought tickets (they take cash & card).
Philip S — Google review
Such a whimsical froggy experience! Brilliant taxidermy skills are on display. My favourite was the circus pyramid of frogs. I wish you were allowed to take photos of the exhibit.
Barry C — Google review
We stopped into Froggyland and to say it was a very unique experience would be an understatement. So many unique frog taxidermy scenes - truly unlike any other tourist spot I’ve ever visited. Worth it if you’re looking for a quick activity to do while staying in Split.
Jessica S — Google review
Didn’t go in,the entrance fee is a little expensive €15….weird but cool
Gerry — Google review
A very cool place. No pictures allowed, but lots of really cool displays. Price of entry is a little bit steep as it’s 21 displays of frogs so not huge (it’s €15, but €13 in cash!) but it was really fun to walk around, I had a great time! If I’m ever back in split, I would return…
Eve — Google review
I'm a bit torn on this one. It is absolutely a unique venue - never saw anything like this in all my travels. At first I thought it was going to be a bunch of different frogs in habitats, but whoa was I wrong hahaha. A taxidermy museum solely of frogs in different dioramas through the early 1900s of Croatia (???). If you have small kids, this will have them hopping, seeing frogs doing all the human things. It is done very well, and I will say the only drawbacks were that you cannot take pictures 🤔 and the price may be a bit steep for the attraction. It may have been a major attraction 5-10 years ago, but this place may be losing its edge against other things in the area. I will say, if you want to visit something nowhere else on the planet, this is it hahaha. Thanks.
Troy C — Google review
Ridiculous little place, I loved it! I don't think it was worth the €13 entry free (€15 if by card), and it would have been nice to have more information about the taxidermist who created this collection over 100yrs ago (there is zero info about him in the exhibition, only a small amount on the website). But overall a fun experience! Also pointless that no photos were allowed, as if you didn't use a flash you wouldn't damage the specimens.

The Meštrović Gallery, located in Split, Croatia, is a cultural gem showcasing the works of renowned 20th-century sculptor Ivan Meštrović. Housed in a neo-classical villa built by the artist himself in 1931, the gallery offers a comprehensive display of his sculptures, including statues and portraits reflecting Classical, folk, and Modernist influences.
Lovely garden and sculptures. Unfortunately the building is being renovated so you can’t enter the building. But tickets were half price, and included entry to the church just down the road. The sculptures were well worth a look.
Antony C — Google review
Nice decent price unfortunately a lot of the gallery was closed when we visited but the tickets were discounted. Spacious and tranquil, really helpful and friendly staff who directed us to the church down the road which had a beautiful coastal view. And nice toilet’s probably some of the best in Split.
Pippa W — Google review
What a gorgeous location. During my visit the gallery was closed due to renovations, so I was only able to visit the gardens featuring about a dozen sculptures. Nothing was labeled (or I completely missed this), probably can buy a guide at the ticket office/gift shop. The architecture and gardens are beautiful, it was very serene with a few visitors around. Stunning views of the Adriatic and a reasonably nice view of the Marjan hill (the cross and the flag) due to construction work. The tickets were discounted and also included entry to Crikvine-Kaštelet, located a 10-minute walk up the road.
Iva Q — Google review
A short walk from Split is this imposing gallery. Well worth the effort and not overwhelmed with tourists. Plenty of artworks to suit all interests and in all materials. Ivan Metrovic had his workshop here and lived here, the building itself is impressive, but not overwhelming. And the view from is something not many tourists enjoy. There are steps to navigate but once inside it is cool and relaxed with space to stand back and enjoy these examples of Metric's creativity. The building is surrounded by a Mediterranean garden and serves as a popular wedding venue. Check what is on before you plan your visit. Not an expensive visit with accessible toilets too.
Nigel H — Google review
An interesting building with a small garden populated with some of the artist"s bronze sculptures. The staff were up front about the fact that the building was closed for renovations meaning most of the exhibits were unavailable, and the price was discounted accordingly. The ticket also includes the former church a little further along the road. Watch out for the cute little tortoises in the garden
Nigel M — Google review
The gallery was closed for reconstruction, so we were only allowed to visit the garden area and then the small church ~400 meters away by the sea, but overall experience was pretty pleasant, people working there were nice and it's a great location to take some memorable photos to bring from your vacation

The gallery was closed because of the renovation. Only the garden and Chapel were open fir visitors. I really enjoyed the sculptures in the garden.
Oleksandra B — Google review
Advertises as 'open' but currently closed meaning you're limited to see the 9 statues in the gardens currently. They should be more upfront about this. Ended up paying to see this and then realised they were setting up for a wedding which made us feel rushed and in the way.

Ancient Ruins
The Temple of Jupiter, located within the grounds of Diocletian's Palace in Split, Croatia, is a significant ancient landmark dating back to the 3rd century. Dedicated to Jupiter and featuring an Egyptian sphinx sculpted from black granite, this well-preserved Roman temple is a must-see attraction. The temple was once supported by massive columns, with only one remaining today.
Located in the western part of Diocletian's Palace near the Peristyle, the central square of the imperial complex. Built between 295 and 305, during the construction of the Palace, and was probably turned into a Baptistery of St. John the Baptist in the 6th century. Don't miss the intricate carvings around the entrance.
Vadim S — Google review
It's interesting but it's just one room with a statue, so as long as you see it as part of the combined ticket then fine, otherwise I don't think it's worth it. If you do go in then make sure you look at the interesting ceiling.
Pawel M — Google review
Whilst this Temple/Babtistery has great historical importance there really isn't much to see here. The information board gives the historical context to this building, but it wasn't the small vaulted ceiling that left me breathless, it was climbing the nearby Cathedral Bell Tower. If you doing it as part of the five attractions of the Cathedral complex then worth the visit but I think the three best attractions come with the "Green Ticket" €12 and include the Cathedral, Bell Tower & Treasury.
Miles M — Google review
Wonderfull!! It is dedicated to the Ancient Roman god Jupiter and was built between 295 and 305, during the construction of the Palace, and was probably turned into a Baptistery of St. John the Baptist in the 6th century. The Temple has one of the twelve sphinxes brought from Egypt by Emperor Diocletian in the entrance.
Nida Ö — Google review
It’s part of Split’s UNESCO World Heritage area and open to visitors — you can step inside, admire the ancient vaulting, and see the blend of Roman and early medieval art. The Temple in Split is one of the best-preserved Roman buildings in the city and a small but fascinating remnant of Diocletian’s Palace, built around the year 300 AD.
Cristian G — Google review
I was a little under whelmed by this site. There is not much inside although the ceiling is interesting. It is old and dates back to the Roman time when the had statues of the god Jupiter, but that doesn’t exist. You can skip this one and save a little money on the ticket price.
Simon R — Google review
Actually, almost nothing truly interesting to see. It makes sense only to buy the bundle of different locations passes (such as treasury, cathedral and crypt). Don't forget to mention your student status, if you are one (costs half the price of the adult ticket).
Andrej T — Google review
The temple may look small and insignificant but if you know the history behind the temple then you appreciate the details and what it was.

Sustipan Park is a hidden gem nestled on a cliff above the water, adjacent to Marjan in Split. This lush green oasis is adorned with pine trees and holds historical significance as the site of the Middle-Aged monastery of St. Stephen and a former burial ground for Croatian Kings. Visitors can stroll along stony paths while taking in panoramic views of the surrounding islands and cityscape.
Beautiful park overlooking in split harbour and the city of Split. Great place to walk while enjoying the views. There's St. Stephens church, and a gazebo type structure. Many large pine trees providing shade and lots of park benches to sit and relax. Worth a visit - entrance is free. Plan to spend up to an hour.

Sustipan is a peaceful park just outside Split’s center, with breathtaking views of the Adriatic. Once home to a Benedictine monastery and later a historic cemetery, today it’s a serene place for a quiet walk among pines, a visit to the small chapel, or simply enjoying the sea breeze and sunsets.

Kasjuni Beach is a top choice for those seeking a stunning beach experience in Split. Located on the western shores of Marjan, it offers a picturesque view with cliffs surrounding the deep bay. Visitors can enjoy various amenities such as a cafe bar, restaurant, cabana and lounge chair rentals, massages, and water sports activities like parasailing and stand-up paddle boarding at Joes Beach & Lounge Bar.
This place is just amazing. I went here during August in weekday and the crowd was okay, so not too many people. The beach is actually clean and the water as y’all can see from the photos is wonderful. The place has a bar with music too (maybe kinda expensive, but this is Split :/
Michael P — Google review
A large, free pebble beach with crystal-clear water and no waves. There are two bars with loungers and umbrellas, few restrooms, a small free parking lot near the beach and another small one uphill. The bus stop is a 10-minute walk from the beach. One side is protected by nature, offering some shade, while the central area is completely open for sunbathing. Bring the essentials: water and food, snorkeling gear, shoes, and possibly a tent for sun protection. In early September, it's not crowded, and the blue water temperature is perfect for bathing. There's a small dog area on one side and a nudist area on the other.
Jefferson A — Google review
The most beautiful beach in Croatia. We found a starfish, jumping fish, an octopus and ducks all swimming a good distance from us. The water is so clear and clean. We went around 8am and it was EMPTY, I definitely recommend going early if you don’t want to be around the crowds.
Jj B — Google review
It is 15 minutes drive or an hour walk from old town. We went on a weekday when it was not very crowded. We easily got sun beds at Joe's Beach Bar. The beach has got rocks and there is almost no sand only pebbles therefore water shoe is highly recommended. Parking was not a problem for us since we went by taxi. Joe's bar had all the facilities as far as drinks and food was concerned with excellent service and ambience. Those who need more privacy could go little further but no facilities. No doubt one of the best beach around Split.
Balkrishna S — Google review
Nice beach, not too big but stretches on a long palm trees and mountains’ views. You must bring your sandals as this not a sandy beach. You can also bring food as there are only 2 restaurants and they aren’t the cheapest but you would have possibility to eat and drink something, you would also need cash Parking is free but needs some parking skills
Souhir B — Google review
Wonderful beach just a couple minute drive from the center of Split. The water was crystal clear and the overall atmosphere was also amazing. The views were great, and overall just a good spot to escape the city. Just beware, it gets crowded pretty quickly.
Krzysztof S — Google review
It’s a pretty beach it’s just incredibly crowded as it’s only a 5 minute drive from downtown. Like literally every spot along the entire stretch of beach had people on it. You’re much better off going to one of the nearby islands if you want a more private/relaxing beach experience, but if you’re just in Split for a day it’s okay.
Maddy A — Google review
Very busy and drama with parking. Beach is nice but nothing special. And look out for your stuff. I forgot to leave my jewelry at the car and everything got stolen from my bag in less then a minute because that's the time I looked away. And saw a guy walk away around my bag,he was pretending to make photos with his telephone but in between time he took all my jewelry out and disappeared quick. People definitely see it and didn't say anything.

The Split Ethnographic Museum, established in 1910, offers a fascinating insight into the traditional costumes, crafts, and culture of the Dalmatian Coast. The museum's collection originated from the Split Craft School and features ethnographic materials gathered by Kamilo Toncic. Visitors can explore exhibits showcasing local women's products, folk costumes from various parts of Dalmatia, and works created by pupils of the school.
Free entrance with your (free )Split Card. Beautiful part of the old town. Exhibits are in Croatian and English and feature mostly traditional clothing, jewelry and furniture. Worth an hour of your time. The building itself is gorgeous.

Become immersed in the clothing, lifestyle, work and culture of the region and the country with an hour's visit to this well organised Museum. Most exhibits have translation into English. The staff are friendly and entry is free if you have the Split tourist card, which is itself free if you are staying for 5 nights. It is a huge space inside the historic walls of Diocletian Palace, so, even if it's busy, you won't feel crowded.
Nigel M — Google review
Very quiet when I visited, I guess more tourists go for the boat trips, but I came to Split for the history & culture. I've been to Ethnographic museums in many countries around the World. The emphasis of the exhibition here is on the traditional costums worn by dalmatian & coastal people in previous centuries. But I would like to have learnt more about how people lived and worked in those times.

We spent a few hours exploring Split Old Town and were truly impressed. The heart of the city is Diocletian’s Palace, built in 305 AD, with its Roman temples, cathedral, and narrow alleys that now host lively cafés and restaurants. The mix of Roman remains and later Venetian architecture creates a unique atmosphere where history and daily life blend beautifully. The Old Town is full of charm, energy, and architectural treasures. The only drawback is the limited access to public toilets, usually paid (1 €). Still, it’s a must-see destination that leaves a lasting impression.

The Old Town Hall is beautiful. The area has many shops and restaurants. But most of the shops were not open on the weekends. I saw many shops that had items I wanted to purchase but couldn't because we were there on Saturday. However, almost all the restaurants in the Old Town Hall are open for business.
Michael W — Google review
The Old Split Town Hall (Croatian: Stara gradska vijećnica) was built in 1443 as the city started growing and kept expanding outside the palace. It was built in Gothic style and later rebuilt in neo-Gothic style in 1890, retaining the triple arcade. During the Middle ages, it was the seat of government in Split. Between 1910 and 2005, it housed the ethnographic museum, but today the old town hall hosts exhibitions of works of art by the city’s painters as well as many events. The Old Town Hall is located on the Pjaca square (Narodni trg), right next to the Iron Gate of the Palace and the City Clock. It’s surrounded by many palaces belonging to noble families that used to live on the square around it.

Vestibul is a significant stop on the free Split walking tour, situated in the old town near Diocletian's Palace. This domed room made of stone was once an entrance reserved for Diocletian's esteemed guests. Today, it attracts photographers and Instagram enthusiasts due to its picturesque circular opening to the sky and its proximity to the cathedral. The acoustics of Vestibul also make it a favored spot for local singers and a cappella groups.
The Diocletian Palace area of Split is full of surprises, and one of the best is this entryway into the original 4th century Palace. Designed much like the Pantheon of Ancient Rome, it still maintains enough of the architectural skeleton to give you a sense of what the original might have looked like. You can see the top of the bell tower through the ocular space in the roof and musicians play at various times through the day. It's just a place to pass through, but it leaves a lingering effect
Nigel M — Google review
The Vestibul in Split is a beautiful space to walk through where history wraps around you in stone and echo. The circular walls and open sky above create a moment of calm right in the heart of the old city. It is not a place where you linger for hours but one that stays with you long after you pass through. The mix of ancient architecture and soft light gives it a quiet magic especially early in the morning or late in the evening. A short visit full of feeling a passageway between centuries worth slowing down for.
Mia V — Google review
There is no way you are coming to Split and not stopping by to see this fine example of ancient dome engineering. My only regret was I never had the opportunity to hear some local singers in this area - other videos seemed amazing. Do not miss the opportunity to grab a picture from above - go through the dome from the square. You will see a museum straight ahead, but make an immediate left - pay 2 euros each and make you way up the stairs. When you get to the top, walk freely for some amazing photos. Thanks.
Troy C — Google review
Diocletian's Palace is a rather arbitrary name. The palace itself hasn't survived in its original form, but some of its rooms have been preserved and are quite interesting. This includes the vestibule, which is remarkably well-preserved and boasts superb acoustics. The impression is spoiled by the concert bands that sing in the center of the vestibule and the "Roman legionnaires" who stalk gullible tourists and offer to pose for photos with them.

15 eurow for 4 rooms filled with badly made figures and books, this place is saved by the high quality props and detailed kroatian history on display. As a game of thrones fan, I liked it, but felt dissapointed comparing it to any other GoT museum.

A great little museum. Plenty of props and facts about the show, and it's cheap enough to enter. Worth a visit if you're in the area.
Aidan Q — Google review
If you’re a big GOT fan, it’s worth the visit although it’s very expensive for what it is. The museum is very small and there’s not much indication that the props throughout were used in the making of the show. If you read through everything, it’ll take 40-45 min to get through. MAX. The woman at reception was really quite lovely and friendly and since we went before tourist season, we had the place to ourselves to explore at our leisure. If it was busy, I don’t think we’d have enjoyed it as much as we did as it would be quite cramped. It was great for that nostalgic feeling but definitely something that could be passed up. If it wasn’t so costly, it’d be worth the price of admission. I’d say it’s worth about 1/2 of what they currently charge for entry. The associated gift shop has lots of great items however our experience with the service there was the opposite of what we had at the museum. I’m not sure that there was a more miserable person in all of Split! All-in-all, great for the die-hard GOT fans but others might not get the value out of it.

It had just started to thunder and lighting we darted in as we didn't really know what to do, so we thought why not. I had seen game of throwns my partner hasn't so for him, he found it boring and a waste of money. I enjoyed seeing photos of the area as a film set. Was it worth the money... no, but it was interesting. Very small. Not 100% sure any of the props were the real deal.
Harri F — Google review
For the price, we expected a larger experience, I guess. There were a fair amount of costumes and "weapons" but an even larger amount of pictures. The scale models of certain locations were very cool, though.

It is a tradition for audiences to dress up for the occasion. The largest theater in the region was constructed under Mayor Gaj Bulat's order and has an interior designed by Italian artist Eugenio Scomparini. Friendly staff, easy to figure out especially if you don’t speak much of the local language! I was confused about doors vs start time, but for my event, the doors were at the time stated on the ticket (20:00), and then the event started 5 minutes later (20:05). There wasn’t much info online about dress code, but I recommend not wearing shorts or anything above the knee, as most were wearing trousers and longs dresses. Definitely smart/smart casual. I hope this helps some fellow travellers out :) great performance!! Would visit again!

The Croatian Maritime Museum, nestled in the courtyard of the historic Gripe Fortress, offers an intimate look at Split's seafaring tradition. This almost hidden gem showcases maritime relics and art, including model ships and images of sailing boats from ancient times to the age of steam. The museum's collection highlights the deep connection between Split and Dalmatia with the ocean, featuring exhibits on ship development and nautical equipment.
Very reasonably priced entrance. 7.0 euros for 2. IT didn't disappoint. Great maritime history with some information boards in England. A vast amount of history to enjoy not much reading. Did the whole museum I an hour. You could take longer if you stopped at each item. Was split into civilian, military and outside. Outside had part of a huge ship you could get on perfect opertunity for a photo. And the ship was made in the isle of white. Lovely place, no cafe or anything but it was air conditioned so we didn't mind :)

Must see museum in Split, suitable for all audiences. The VR experience is interesting and immersive. All the exhibits are charming in their way, but the ship replicas take the cake. Just for 3.5€ it's an amazing experience. Don't miss the ship outside! P.S. free parking is available in the courtyard if you're lucky and find a spot, it's mostly used by the locals
Stefan-Simion S — Google review
Very interesting museum showing history of both military and civilian shipping along Croatian coast. Just outside of historic centre of Split so not crowded. I enjoyed my visit.
David H — Google review
Wonderful museum which I had almost to myself. One of the staff "Petra" spent a lot of time with me explaining some of the historical events that shaped modern Croatia, her time, knowledge and passion was very much appreciated. The museum covers many aspects of Maritime history with scale models of ships, paintings, engines/motors and many items related to seafaring traditional. Coming from England I was particularly interested in the room dedicated to the development of the first self-propelled torpedo perfected by the British engineer "Robert Whitehead" working in Rijeka. A small outdoor exhibition includes examples of traditional boat building, you also get good views across Split from the Fortress walls. Finally the self-operated VR show is not to be missed. An instruction manual is provided. A bit tricky to get going but once you've got the hang of it, well worth it. With the Stuka, submerged aircraft you really feel your underwater exploring the wreck and moving in three dimensions. For everything you get with this free VR show and exhibitions this museum is excellent value for money, and even a discount for Seniors.

Plenty to see. Much much better than the Maritime museum in Dubrovnik. Plus the AC works here as well. Pity that there is a limit to the amount languages describing the exhibits.

The museum is interesting. We spent two hours there. Many exhibits were truly fascinating. With the Split Card, you get a 50% discount. I highly recommend visiting this museum.

Wonderful museum. 1.80€ for students. Very worth it. Interesting exhibits with a Lot to learn about croatian shipbuilding.

Small, quiet, cool, and super interesting with exhibits on deep sea wrecks, virtual reality visits to underwater sites, the role of women in ship building, naval warfare, commercial seafaring and, of course, torpedos. We came here to escape the heat and are so pleased we did.

Gallery Emanuel Vidovic is a tribute to the renowned Croatian painter Emanuel Vidovic, who is celebrated as the pioneer of modern art in Split. Situated within Diocletian's Palace, this gallery showcases Vidovic's remarkable works in a contemporary setting. The exhibits are displayed chronologically, allowing visitors to witness the evolution of Vidovic's artistic prowess. As Split's beloved artistic figure, his obsession with capturing the beauty of Adriatic coastal life is palpable throughout his pieces.
Interesting artwork from a famous painter
Lukasz Z — Google review
I would pay a visit if being near Deocletian Palace. Nice museum presenting mostly the work of Croatian artist - Emanuel Vidovic , but what I was more fond of was the temporary exhibition. I also liked the artist's room setup with interactive illuminated pieces, it was fun. A downer for me was the fact that not all pieces and information presented had an English equivalent, which made it harder to be fully and truly an enjoyable experience.
Bogdan F — Google review
Dark art and poor lighting. But I like the temporary exhibition at the ground floor. I thought that was what the gallery was about.
Jim R — Google review
My rating is mostly for the place itself, not for the art which it contains, as the exhibition was really nice and Vidovic was a really outstanding painter. However the place was really badly lit, it was really hard to see 80% of his works, honestly never seen this bad lighting in a galery ever. I beg you to give more light for this masterpieces. Besides this the painter itself was really interesting with some really good pieces and it was quite well made a film about his life as well which gave some background knowledge about him. Also would like to note that the entry fee was only 5 euro, so definitely worth to check it even with the current lighting conditions. I'm just hoping that the owner maybe will read this and will make some upgrade after a 2 stars review.
Szilard H — Google review
Interesting and slightly interactive museum! And for free with the Split card! We enjoyed ourselves here for about an hour. Nice to learn something about Vidlvic and his paintings
Anne M — Google review
Really interesting to visit the gallery as it was left 50-odd years ago when Vidovic died. Top floor puts the exhibition into perspective and explains why the works are a touch dark…
Robert B — Google review
Vidovic was a significant Croatian painter. The gallery is mainly devoted to his output. There is an informative video concerning his career. There are also temporary exhibitions. This is a beautiful gallery in a renovated Romanesque house.

Public beach
Super public bath
Ovcice Beach is a small, pebbly cove located near Bacvice Beach in Split. It is popular with families and offers a more peaceful atmosphere compared to the busier Bacvice. The beach has limited amenities, including a single cafe called Ovcice Cafe, changing cabins, and a jet ski rental nearby. It features a simple promenade and play equipment, making it suitable for families with children.
Excellent place to cool down. Good thing with the beach is it is very shallow: great if you have children or want to throw ball to each other, or sit in the water etc. Also, has 'sand' which is a great alternative to concrete and sharp stones so common at Euro beaches. If beach is too full, then walk around to your east (to the left looking out to sea) where there is a diving board and deeper water etc. Around there is only concrete to lie on.
Simon C — Google review
Such a nice little beach tucked away from the bigger more public beach nearby. Bring water shoes both for the rocks and lots of sea urchins in the shallows where people were walking. Changing rooms and fresh water shower nearby along with a restaurant. Good to relax, quiet and nice for a swim. You can follow the promenade along to another beach in the next cove. There are sunbathing spots (taken up by lots of people) on the concrete so watch where you step!
Hannah — Google review
Nice and clear water, pebbles and stones make it hard to enjoy. Next beaches on both sides offer sand beaches, yet here is less windy comparatively. You can sun bath at the park benches or play chess with locals. Bonus: Cute cafe available
Şuayp E — Google review
After 3 days enjoying quietness and sun beds, a group a 3 peoples have started to ruin the ambiance by putting loud techno music. Croatian haven’t get us used to this type of misbehaviors… totally unacceptable when sunbeds are 25€/person. Avoid the place if you want to have a good time (look for this cabana when the music comes from)
Arnaud45160 — Google review
Beautiful beach, has bars so you can grab a beverage or a bite to eat. 25€ sunbeds or just lay on the concrete. The water is crystal clear. Recommend this beach.
Portland G — Google review
I can't say this was my favorite beach in croatia, while it's still beautiful and breathtaking, I was not a fan of the pebbles, or the cement. Perhaps it was just the time of the year that I was there or the time of day, but there was very little in the sense of Sun beds and umbrellas. If you do decide to visit, bring your own waters, juices, refreshments, lunch and snacks, as the beach has very little to offer. While the water was very clean and very blue, the whole experience left me wanting for something a little more.

The Museum of Croatian Archaeological Monuments, also known as the Archaeological Museum, is a must-visit for those interested in Dalmatian history. Located in the Krizine Palace, it offers a diverse collection of artifacts dating from prehistoric to medieval times. The museum showcases cultural relics such as jewels, weapons, stone monuments, and other historical items that provide insight into the region's past.
We had a wonderful family visit to the Museum of Croatian Archaeological Monuments. The exhibits were fascinating and well-maintained, offering a captivating glimpse into Croatian history. Our sons thoroughly enjoyed the children's activities and were engaged throughout our visit. The staff were incredibly polite and helpful, making our experience even more enjoyable. We highly recommend this museum to anyone interested in history and culture.
Stipe M — Google review
It’s free and worth a visit if you have time to kill in Split. The museum is about a 20 min walk from the main centre of Split and contains interesting artefacts such as ancient coins and sarcophagus. Learn about Queen Jelana, King Justin and lots of other interesting people throughout history. The museum could do with a renovation and there was a lot of space for the number of items on display. There wasn’t any air conditioning so it was very warm inside, but we were the only people in there and there was a lot of space so it wasn’t so bad. The top floor doesn’t have any English translation. Overall, an interesting place to visit and better than some places where I’ve had to pay an admission fee.
Belinda B — Google review
Firstly, it's a free museum, so worth a visit whatever reviews say! It's in a very large building, but it feels a bit empty. What's there is interesting. Most of the explanations are in English so you understand what you're looking at. Mostly medieval coins, armour and pieces of buildings.
Adam T — Google review
Do not confuse this with the similarly named “Museum of Archaeology” which is still open.
Shannon R — Google review
Worth a visit, and the cost was free. Not very many exhibits. The building was hit repeatedly by the Serbs during the war of succession, and the permanent collection was relocated to Belgrade early on, and never returned. The garden on the upper level was nice, and not as warm as the interior, as the air conditioning wasn't on. No other visitors when we were there, so an escape from the crowds.
Philipp' P — Google review
Unfortunately the museum is almost empty only a few big objects in te main hall(picture) and a very small exhibition. Very underwhelming and sad to see so little of Croatian history. Also there is no explanation what so every about the objects that are there.
Erik — Google review
Beautiful space with some important artefacts from Croatia's turbulent past. The coin collection is quite impressive. And the reconstruction of the medieval warrior's head is fascinating. The building deserves a cafeteria and specialist shop.
Godfrey B — Google review
I’m a huge fan of museums wherever I travel, but this one had given up the ghost awhile back. Large empty exhibits, handwritten notes on the walls, a piano in the middle of the main hall and a strange American woman sprawled out relaxing. On top of this no air conditioning in the middle of summer.

Matejuška is a small cove near Split's Riviera, historically used as a boat dock by local fishermen. Nowadays, it's a popular hangout for both locals and tourists, especially young adults who gather to enjoy drinks and music against the backdrop of the sea. The area also hosts a fresh fish market on its western side, open from early morning until late evening.
An easy going promenade where people of Split relax, drink beer (bought in a nearby liquorshop), enjoy in the sun, chatting and people-watching. The views of the old city centre and the harbour are priceless.
Mirko S — Google review
Very walkable and pleasant. Lots to see and enjoy while taking in the fresh air by the waterside.
Philip S — Google review
Lovely place for a walk outside the Riva, it's a small harbour area with many boats and tour cruises. There's a few monuments, and you can get a phenomenal panorama view of Split.
Mat B — Google review
Matejuška is the quieter, more calm side of Split’s waterfront. Once a traditional fishing harbor, it still keeps that local charm with small boats, fishermen, and a relaxed vibe.

The Saint Domnius Bell Tower in Split offers a stunning panoramic view of the city from its top, making it a must-visit attraction. Climbing to the top is worth the effort, as visitors are rewarded with breathtaking views of Split's Old Town and beyond. The ticket price is reasonable at only 20 kunas, providing great value for an unforgettable experience.
The Saint Domnius Bell Tower in Split offers one of the best views of the city and the surrounding areas. It’s part of Saint Domnius Cathedral, and though the climb is a bit steep with narrow steps, it’s totally worth it once you reach the top. From up there, you get breathtaking panoramic views of Split, the coastline, and even nearby islands. The tower itself is quite impressive, with its Romanesque design and beautiful stonework. The bell at the top adds to its charm and history, and it’s cool to imagine how much the area has changed since it was built. Though the climb can be a bit of a workout and you are not allowed to bring your water with you (they make you place it outside the steps before going in), the scenic views and the sense of history make it a highlight of the visit. Definitely don’t skip it if you’re in Split!
K E — Google review
The bell tower of Saint Domnius is the city's main symbol. You can climb the steps all the way to the top of the bell tower, where a wonderful view of the entire Split awaits you. There is paid entry, but it's not much and worth the walk up!
Mat B — Google review
Excellent 360 degree views across the city and port. The initial part of the climb is a bit tricky with deep stone steps and no hand railings on part of it. However once you get past these steps, the tower opens out and you have a good broad metal stairway to take you the rest of the way to the top. Definitely worth doing.
Miles M — Google review
GO FIRST THING to beat crowds! Well worth the climb up the steps for the view. Note that some passageways up are extremely narrow and very steep. This is not accessible at all if you struggle with stairs.
Danita B — Google review
Climbing the bell tower is a highlight of any visit to Split. The ascent is steep and narrow, but the reward is sweeping views over the city and coast. It’s a tight climb, but the sense of history and the photo ops at the top make it absolutely worth it.
Karl W — Google review
Amazing experience, loved it.great views and quirky staircase leading to the top. Good price at 7 euros. However students get access for 3.5 euro.
Kieran W — Google review
The views from the top of the bell tower are the highlight of the cathedral visit and definitely worth cutting the multi-site ticket that includes the tower. It is a climb up but the view of the city and port make it all worth while.

Great 90min walking tour especially if you want to learn some of the 4,000 year history of Croatia and this complex & fractious region. Antoni was our guide and she was fantastic- she provided so much information and insight. The tour is an absolute bargain at just €15 pp, for a 90 tour with a group of 18. The Old Town get absolutely packed with group tours and crowds in the middle of the day, but it’s relatively quiet in the morning an hour before the tour starts, and again from 3pm onwards. It’s a visually stunning place so absolutely worth taking the time pre or post tour to wander around for an hour.

It was a busy day in Split with a lot of tour groups, a big cruise ship arriving and a film crew on the main square all at the same time, but our guide navigated us to all the quiet areas so we were able to enjoy in peace. Gave some good tips on what else to to and see around Split. Would recommend!

26Blue Lagoon with Gray Line Croatia

Embark on a journey to Trogir by hopping on a bus from Split or opt for a more adventurous route by joining a boat tour to the stunning Blue Lagoon. This idyllic spot offers crystal-clear waters perfect for swimming and basking in the Adriatic's natural beauty. The 8-hour trip is well worth it, with friendly guides, delectable burger options, and unlimited drinks including wine, juice, and water.
We found this tour directly on a map (at this point), I ordered 2 tickets using the Gray Line website, and our tour was on 1st of September 2024. We had a tour called "3 islands with Blue Lagoon". The tour was from 9:00 to 17:30 (check-in at 8:30). Actually, all was as planned. The ship is not very big, but quite comfortable to include about 100-130 persons, I guess. We had a first stop not far from shoreline, where we could swim for about hour in a clean water. A mask (no pipe) could be rented from the staff for free (with small insurance deposit, which returns in the end). Also, there are some swimming stuff like swimming rings and boards, which could be taken during the swim. We had also a free burger (to choose - beef, tuna or vege) at around 11:00. Free drinks like water, juice and wine were available at the ship. The second stop was an island called "Maslenica" - which has its beautiful views and places to see or to eat/drink. We visited it and also swam a bit at some quiet place. The last stop was private Gray Line "Blue Lagoon" beach. There is just a beach with some drinks shops, with some sun loungers: you can swim near the beach (but there are stones - should be careful), but also near the ship - where is deeper, but has its advantages. The most remarkable part: our guides - the crew members of Gray Line who informed us - Anja and Marko. Anja is a very positive person, who in details explained us what to expect next, and overall making the very pleasant atmosphere on the ship. Marko is a great guy, his energy is really uplifting the mood. Thank to all you, guys - excellent job! Overall, we definitely excited the journey and will remember it as a thing we enjoyed a lot. Thanks!

My boyfriend and I took part an adventure cruise on the 15th of August. We bought our tickets to Blue lagoon three island and shipwreck program in Split. We really disappointed because we didn't spend as much time in the places related to the adventure that the company promised and planned. The captain wrecked a boat in the harbor on one of the islands, then he pushed another one. He did not handled this situation. The crew did not informed about anything. We wrote a complaint email to Gray Line Croatia, but our complaint was not taken seriously. I really don’t recommend Gray Line Company.
Andrea J — Google review
Our experience with this tour was quite disappointing due to misleading information about the Blue Cave. When we booked, it was stated that there was a 99% chance we would visit the Blue Cave. However, on the same day when we booked, other tourists in our group received emails indicating the Blue Cave will be closed This was frustrating, as we had asked other trip guides beforehand, and they confirmed the Blue Cave would not be accessible. On the day of the tour, we ended up only covering four islands during to high tide, which did not feel worth the money given our expectations. But crew on the boat were good and helpful
Dhananjay S — Google review
Terrible experience. This trip is advertised as a snorkelling tour with included snorkel. I was so excited to explore a shipwreck however was told they had run out of snorkels. The boat was so crowded and felt unsafe. Do not book if you are keen to snorkel as you might not get one. Also, I paid a lot extra for a sunbed, the remaining sunbeds were just given away to whoever was closest resulting in me laying next to a sunbed shared by 3 people. Not the relaxing and fun trip I was hoping for.

Poljud Stadium, built for the 1979 Mediterranean Games, is a top sporting arena in Split with seating for around 34,000. It's also a great place to stay if you're in town for a game or any of the city's events and cultural attractions like music festivals. Located just outside of Old Town, it offers easy access to the city center without the noise and crowds. The neighborhood surrounding Poljud Stadium also features Park Mladosti, home of the popular Ultra Festival.
Visiting Poljud Stadium in Split for a league game was an unforgettable experience! The atmosphere here is absolutely electric—home team fans are incredibly passionate, creating an energy that’s contagious. Yes, the stadium logistics might be a bit outdated, but the incredible vibe more than makes up for it. The chants, the cheers, and the unity of the fans make you feel like you’re part of something special. We thoroughly enjoyed the game and the overall experience. Radić Brothers Square, also known as Fruit Square, is a historic square located just outside the western walls of Diocletian's Palace in Split. It was once a bustling fruit market and is now home to various shops and attractions. The square features the 15th-century gothic Old Town Hall, the Art Nouveau Nakic Palace, the Palace of Cipriano de Ciprianis with its heksaforas windows, and a Romanesque clock tower.
Great historic square in the middle of the old town. They had an amazing open air concert concert on a Saturday to celebrate World Music day , and well done to the authorities and local area representatives for putting this on. It was a fantastic free event with great music and vibe and got everyone involved . The bands that played were awesome especially Rose and her band. An irregularly shaped square that features the statue of Croatioan national poet and the remnants of a Venetian castle. It has the typical croatian look, i.e, stone built, white and kind of austere. Not a whole lot to do here, one restaurant and thats about it. Nice to look at though.

Fruit Square is one of those spots in Split that feels like a hidden gem, even though it’s right in the middle of everything. It’s got a cool mix of history and chill vibes—surrounded by old buildings, a statue of Marko Marulić, and even a Venetian tower. Great place to sit down, grab an ice cream or coffee, and just watch the world go by. It’s super close to Diocletian’s Palace, so it’s easy to swing by while exploring. Definitely worth a quick stop or a longer break if you need to rest your feet.

This might have been our favorite place in Croatia!! Such a gorgeous square, just inside the gate of Diocletian's Palace. Great food, drinks, and shopping right here. Our VRBO overlooked this square, and it was perfect looking out the windows every morning and evening.
Dana G — Google review
Such a gorgeous square, just inside the gate of Diocletian's Palace. There is great lace to sit down by the sculpture of Marko Marulic 1450 - 1524.
Sabrina M — Google review
An open area with some welcome shade from the sun and some interesting buildings and a statue. The Square of Radić Brothers is called “The Fruit Square” because it was once home to the bustling and colorful market where women from the surrounding villages came to sell their fruit. Nowadays, in the middle of the square, you can find the statue of Marko Marulić, the father of Croatian literature, sculpted by Ivan Meštrović, the most renowned Croatian artist.

Outdoor Activities
Žnjan City Beach is a hidden gem nestled within the Marjan Hill Forest Park in Croatia. It offers a wild and rocky coastline with a small area of sand, making it an ideal spot for all generations. The beach boasts a large pebble stretch and ample free parking space, which sets it apart from other beaches in Split. Despite ongoing construction, visitors can enjoy free sunshades and sunbeds as well as the convenience of nearby amenities like supermarkets.
A wide pebble beach with many new features, including bars, shops, and parking; some areas are free, while others require a fee; suitable for singles, couples, and families. In early September, it's not very crowded, and the blue water temperature is quite pleasant. Dogs are not allowed on the beach.
Jefferson A — Google review
The beach infrastructure is still under construction. There is a part that is finished, wheel chair access ramp to the water, paved walking areas, parking, and a large shade structure with solar panels on its roof. I don’t understand why there aren’t solar panels everywhere, given how sunny it is here most of the year. There is even a bouncy castle in the water for kids. A huge draw back is there are NO PUBLIC TOILETS. That is beyond ridiculous for a beach in the middle of the city.

Beautiful spot to have a bath in Split. I went during an intense summer period but there were many parking lot available (obviously on payment). The beach is amazing and the water has an incredible color splitting in many blue tones. There’s a beach bar close by, but the prices are quite high
Michael P — Google review
The best beach in Split, recently renovated and some parts are still under construction. The water is clean, the beach spacious and there's a little beach bar. Overall, a very enjoyable experience.
Tanja T — Google review
Zjan Beach is a relatively new spot that impresses with its natural beauty and cleanliness. The water is crystal clear and perfect for swimming, although it gets deep very quickly — something to keep in mind, especially for families with young children or less confident swimmers. The facilities are a bit limited. There are no permanent restrooms, only portable toilets (Dixi), which can be inconvenient. On the bright side, the showers and changing cabins are clean and well-maintained. Food and drinks at the beach are on the pricier side: a Coke costs €5, and a cappuccino is €3.60. It's worth planning ahead if you're spending the whole day there. Overall, Zjan Beach offers a pleasant seaside experience with clear waters and decent amenities, though there’s room for improvement in infrastructure and pricings.
Enes D — Google review
This place gives ‘going to the beach’ a whole new level: you can play basketball, volleybal, pingpong and a lot of other playground, also with waterfeatures. There is the “traditional beach” and also covered areas. And plenty of beachbars (large and small). We visited Znjan once and that was on a regular Thursday and found it rather quiet. Rent for a beachbed was €20,-, including the parasol. Pizza was from €10,-. A dayticket for the bus was €4,- (going there and back probably could have been cheaper). Busline 15 has it’s own busstop. Due to construction works this one seems a little bit hidden and Google Maps wasn’t that helpfull either. But having seen the quality already built, I presume this will be fixed.
Edwin P — Google review
The beach was nice, with a jumping platform and a playground. It’s still under construction, but once it’s finished, it will definitely be a great spot.
Masterko — Google review
Experience was good and yes it's close to SKATEPARK. Like 3min walking. Although needs more shades but it's ok.

Park Josipa Jurja Strossmayera is a charming green space located just outside the Golden Gate in Split. It features the Gregory of Nin statue and hosts a weekend flea market, occasional summer concerts, and even sightings of Roman soldiers due to its proximity to Diocletian's Palace. The park offers a peaceful retreat with lush greenery, benches, fountains, and a playground for children.
Small green space near the Golden Gate and the Gregory Nin statue. The park has some large trees that provide shade on sunny days, and some flowers that provide some color. There are a few water features in the park that are fun to watch or use to wash your hands Nice area to sit and enjoy the cool shade.
Jamie W — Google review
A nice little park located just outside of the Golden Gate. Its home to the Gregory Nin statue and a flea market on weekends. There are also occasional concerts held there in the summer. Sometimes you'll also see roman soldiers walking around because of the proximity to the Diocletian's Palace.
Bobby C — Google review
It's a small strip of grass with graffitied walls in front of the golden gate.
Tim W — Google review
A green city park. A place suitable for tourists to rest.
Anna — Google review
Small compact park with plenty of stone bench seating and shade from the trees. The centre piece is a statue & fountain. No dogs allowed which keeps it clean & safe.
Miles M — Google review
Popular Park in Split with lots of trees. Water to drink is also available. However there is a popular Singing bug there, that can get very loud
Jawad A — Google review
Nice park near northern entrance to Diocletian palace. Venue for various events like watching football World Cup this summer or carnival with local TBF I was enjoying.
Tonko L — Google review
Bad: Dirty benches, needs more trash bins! Great: public gatherings during summer or for associations like today Fountain, lots of trees make great shade, birds singing... It is a great green refugee in the heart of Split centre.
