Portuguese restaurant
Restaurant
Adega São Nicolau is a cozy and unassuming restaurant that serves up traditional Portuguese dishes with a homestyle touch. Owned by the same people as Taberna dos Mercadores, it embodies the warmth of Portuguese hospitality. The menu features classic favorites like bacalhau a Narcisa and veal steak from Arouca, but the real highlights are the seasonal specials, such as capelin stuffed with Alheira and rabbit in red wine.
Iconic location with an atmosphere that feels truly authentic. The food was exactly what you’d hope for in Porto — fresh, flavorful, and generous. The shrimps were outstanding: perfectly cooked, fresh, and rich with flavor. The grilled sardines were the ideal first-night meal in Porto — simple, traditional, and absolutely delicious. Service was excellent — quick, efficient, and very friendly. A small tip: make sure to put your name on the waitlist when you arrive, as there is almost always a queue. The system runs smoothly, and the short wait is well worth it. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to dive straight into genuine Portuguese flavors and a great dining experience in the heart of Porto

My companions and I had an excellent meal here! I tried to make reservations via phone but my call wasn’t answered. So we just went there for a late lunch, and had a wait of 20 minutes. The staff is efficient and they try to sit you asap. Once you have your table, the staff is really helpful and answers your questions. The food comes in quite fast. The octopus rice was splendid and the octopus fillet was unbelievably tender. The tripe was the highlight for me though. It was so rich, complex, and tender. I hope it was easier to get reservations, but it’s worth the wait. It was an amazing meal for our last day in Porto!

If you want to eat something near the river side, I would pick here! Prawn was good. Sauce was with deep seafood favor. Octopus was pretty ok as well. Staff were nice. We went there for just simple food and a glass of wine then liked prawn so ordered more food to just have dinner there!!!!!

Adega São Nicolau remains one of those Porto institutions where you walk in expecting a pleasant meal and walk out feeling like you have survived, or perhaps enjoyed, a minor historical event. Tucked beside the Douro, this old school tavern still dishes out enough tradition to qualify as a UNESCO carb site. We dove into the octopus rice, which arrived like a warm ocean hug. Rich, comforting, beautifully seasoned. If Neptune ever opened a restaurant, this would be his signature dish. Truly excellent. The cod, however, pulled a small plot twist. Tasted good, smelled right, looked heroic, but chewed like it had just completed military service. Not terrible, just a bit on the tough side, as if the fish had opinions about being eaten. Service marched at its usual brisk medieval tempo, and the atmosphere remained a delightful blend of locals, lost tourists, and people pretending they reserved a table three months ago. Final verdict: come for the vibe, stay for the octopus rice, and approach the cod with the same caution explorers used when opening unknown treasure chests in the year 1500. After all, legends are legends, but fish have moods too.

This was our first dinner place in Porto and it did not disappoint. You may have to wait a bit for a table, but it would be worth it. It’s close to the river but tucked away on a little narrow uphill street that lends a quaint atmosphere of authenticity to it. The portions of the mains is pretty big, I’m a hearty eater, I can really eat a lot, but the servings for one main would be good for two people, particularly if you would be doing an appetizer, and dessert after. My partner and I made the mistake of getting one main each. We tried the Tripe stew and the veal stew. Both were very rich. The tripe was tender, not gamey, and was stewed with white beans and some carrots making it a very filling dish. The veal was also very tender, perfectly seasoned, and had a moderately thick sauce perfect for sopping up with bread. We also had the croquettes for starters which were a bit too creamy inside (the outer shell was nice and crispy, and the jesuit crackers which were light and fluffy. We were very full in the end so the climb/walk up the hilly parts was a wee bit challenging but kinda welcome. Pro tip: just really think about whether you need to have two mains, best to share one.

What an amazing find! The inside is like you're in a wine barrel. The wait staff was attentive and knowledgeable...and fun. The food was amazing. I had the Lagareiro Octopus and it was one of the best things I've eaten over my 2 weeks in Portugal. My sister had the Lagareiro cod, which was also delicious, but the octopus was outstanding. Go there - you will not be disappointed

We had the final meal of our short break in Porto here, and a fitting finale it was. Superb food, with a friendly service in a really nice atmosphere. We shared Codfish croquettes and Octopus salad to start, both fresh and flavoursome. For mains it was Octopus fillet which came with Octopus rice, across the table it was Oxtail stew with rice. Both dishes were superb. We stumbled across this place earlier in the day, and said we'd go back later, and weren't disappointed, I would recommend anyone to try this small restaurant which is slightly off the beaten track.

Fantastic spot, not as touristic as the restaurants on the river. Great spot in Porto. Very nice food. Tip: go really early otherwise the waiting list is long.

Nestled in the charming Ribeira neighborhood, Taberna dos Mercadores is a cozy and intimate restaurant that offers a delightful dining experience. Despite its small size, the place is always bustling, so it's advisable to make reservations well in advance. The attentive staff adds to the warm and inviting atmosphere. The menu features delectable dishes such as octopus specialties and grilled sea bass, complemented by an extensive selection of high-quality wines.
We had to wait for about 30-40 minutes before we got a table. The staff came out during this time and told us they can’t guarantee a place for us and that larger groups might have to sit separately. If you can reserve a table as otherwise you might not be able to taste their delicious food. We had the octopus with its rice as well as the steak with the sausage rice. We shared a mixed salad for a starter. The food arrived in time and was delicious. It was worth the wait. The staff is very friendly and polite. It’s worth a visit and with just 16 seats one of the smaller restaurants we have been. Highly recommend but be prepared either to wait or reserve a spot.
Marc S — Google review
This is a very touristy place. The space is very small and at a time only 16 people can be seated. We arrived 45 minutes before opening and were 6th in line. We tried the oven-baked octopus rice and the salt-crusted seabass. The seabass was excellent, 10/10. The oven-baked octopus rice was 7/10. The people working there are very nice. The lady who took our order told us our initial order would be too much food, which was such a kind gesture. Overall, if you have an hour to spare, I would say try this restaurant.
Samiul A — Google review
By far the best restaurant in Porto. There will be a wait so be prepared but it’s well worth it. My tip is be there early. Restaurant seats 14 people. Reminds me of the quaint restaurants in the Boston North End. The food was stunningly and delicious. I ordered the garlic shrimp, Seafood Açorda and Apple Meringue pie. All amazing and all suggested by the owner who is amazingly kind and attentive. I was a single traveler and made to feel right at home and welcomed.

This was my favourite meal in Portugal, the food was so good! I liked the octopus rice and sea bream best, followed by the seafood rice. They have very limited seating inside (~16 seats) so there was a long wait. They opened at 12:30 and our group arrived at 12:05, and we barely missed entering in the first wave. We ended up waiting over 1.5 hours. They don’t guarantee group seating for groups larger than 2 so our group of 4 ended up getting split into 2 groups. They accept credit card.
Ellen H — Google review
I arrived around 1:30pm ish and I waited about 30 mins to be seated. I was by myself and the staff/owner was so accommodating and friendly. I got the octopus dish with rice and the portion was way too generous. Apple pie was really good, nostalgic and had the right balance! Worth the wait 😊
Jisu K — Google review
The signature salt-grilled fish was really fresh, and the flame grilling was quite a show. The garlic clams were just average. We waited almost an hour and a half for a table—there are only eight tables with sixteen seats. The place doesn’t really have much of an atmosphere, but the food came out pretty quickly.
Patricia T — Google review
I would say it's a must-try if you come to Porto. The taste of octopus rice is unforgettable. The crunchy flavored rice is lovely and the octopus is soft and slightly firm with a pleasant chewiness. The size is suitable for 2 people. My friend and I had waited for an hour, and it's

Tiny restaurant with only 16 seats! It does take reservations (4 weeks in advance), but we didn't know. Just missed the first seating when we arrived around 6pm and waited around 1hr30 to be seated. The food was great, lots of seafood. However, as the restaurant is completely open, you did feel like those that were queuing were staring and hoping you would hurry up! Would recommend to arrive before opening time to get the first tables or booking in advance. Otherwise, the wait is too long for what it is.

Restaurant
Tucked away in the Bonfim neighborhood of Porto, A Cozinha do Manel is a beloved traditional restaurant that has been serving up delectable dishes for over 30 years. The cozy dining room, adorned with granite and tiles, offers a warm welcome to patrons. The menu features mouthwatering starters like alheira assada and queijo da Serra, followed by hearty mains such as wood-fired lamb and fish.
Absolutely amazing! A little bit of a stroll from the city centre of Porto but well worth it. Best Codfish dish I've ever had and the tenderloin was absolutely perfect too. Very nice staff and great atmosphere. Would highly recommend to anyone who wants to try authentic Portugese food when in Porto.

Great traditional Portuguese food. Went here for lunch on a Sunday without reservation, got a seat at the bar. Service was very friendly and efficient. Had the roast lamb with potatoes and rice - so good! Lamb was juicy and full of flavour.

What a delicious experience! We were lucky to have come upon this restaurant as it was next door to our hotel. The menus offered just enough options and variety. Delicious wine and exceptional food and service. You will not want to miss you on this dining experience when in Porto! Reservations needed!
Hayley W — Google review
Off the hook amazing food atmosphere and service! Go. Just stop reading and make reservations. Veal is fantastic. Enough for two. Duck rice is also great. We order red wine from Douro, salad, cod app and Milk from heaven with cookie. Not sure what else I could possibly say than just go here and find out what real Portuguese cuisine and hospitality is like. Love this place!
Marcus H — Google review
A quaint, well-maintained restaurant with traditional azulejo tiles and frequented by locals, a sign of quality. The service is friendly and helpful. The menu features characteristic dishes, beautifully presented and generous portions, and the wine list is excellent. Prices are in keeping with the ambiance. The veal is exceptional, and the hake is incredibly fresh. Although it's not in the city center, it's located across from the subway.
Daniele C — Google review
Great local food. You’ll leave with a full belly. Just know that the appies and garlic toast are not free and will be charged to your bill so you might as well eat it.
Tyo M — Google review
The famous goat was a disappointment. The three person portion was mostly bone, meat tasted a bit bitter, otherwise rather tasteless. Texture wasn't as soft as i would expect it to be based on roasted goat experience i had elsewhere. Not worth the price

Casa Guedes Tradicional is a beloved spot in Porto run by two sets of siblings who have created a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The highlight here is the famous smoked pork loin sandwich, best enjoyed with a glass of the local green wine called espadal. Additionally, homemade french fries are also recommended. Recently, Casa Guedes expanded with a new location that offers traditional Portuguese dishes and signature cocktails alongside the iconic sandwiches.
I’ve eaten here several times and it never disappoints. The roasted pork sandwiches, cod cakes, and croquettes are always tasty—especially when washed down with a cold Super Bock. Sitting outside is perfect for people watching. Life is good!

We are not experts on bifanas, but definitely their bifana sandwiches here are great! Great quality, combinations and taste! The menu is exactly what should be. Overall excellent experience. This restaurant is a "must" for anyone visiting Porto!

We serendipitously had lunch here. This is one of the finest restaurants in Porto. The personnel were amicable and well-informed. They patiently elucidated the diverse dishes. The cuisine was undoubtedly superb and delectable. You should sample the abade prisco at least once to explore the flavors of Portugal.

This was the first time we ordered patatas bravas on this trip and they were delicious. We ended up getting them every place we went and by the end of the trip the ones here were still my favorite. My friend loved the pork croquettes and actually asked for me after our meal because she loved them so much. Friendly and helpful staff. The menu has a lot of options!

Sofia recommended me local tastes.I had traditional soup, codfish cake, octopus with potato and espresso and desert. Terrace is a chill place with music. I really enjoyed my visit.

I first visited Casa Guedes back in 2017. We came to Porto now, our priority was to return to Casa Guedes - specifically this restaurant. Casa Guedes did not disappoint- the pork sandwiches are beyond delicious. Out of this world. What made the experience perfect was Paolo, who made us feel so welcome. Love this place.
AAR — Google review
Food was okay, Pork knuckle was really tasty, falling out of bone, do delicious, however side dish that you get with it was also good but portion is very small and not in proportion with the meat where you get really good amount of it. Other dish however, was nothing special, bacalar with egg and vegetables. It had some tomato taste which is fine but overall lacking some spices or something. Position of restaurant is nice, on the street.

DOP is a modern and spacious restaurant located near the Ribeira in Porto, run by renowned Portuguese Chef Rui Paula. The elegant interior design and well-stocked wine cellar create a sophisticated atmosphere. The menu, which changes frequently, features dishes like monkfish with Mondego rice and seafood or suckling pig with potatoes and cider sauce. Guests may have the chance to interact with Chef Rui Paula himself.
Had an epic experience here! Was able to get a reservation the day of and was so happy I did. Went for the 14 moments and it was perfectly portioned - was never too full or too hungry. Loved the variety and creativity with the food. It was visually stunning + delicious. I also got the wine pairing with the moments and that was so fun. The staff was so helpful with teaching me about Portuguese wines and explaining more about the wines on the map in the menu. I’m still thinking about this experience months after my trip! Highly recommend DOP.

Cozy place with amazing foods and services! Love all dishes there. Even the fresh chocolates they gave us as a gift after meal were super yummy. Beautiful and high end restaurant. The chef created great vegan options. We had unforgettable experience in DOP Porto. Must try! Highly recommend and definitely want to come back if we visit Porto again.
Huyen D — Google review
In summary falls short of what is promised, OK but overpriced. I will explain. The staff are very welcoming and attentive, from start to finish. The decor and atmosphere on the ground floor looked very nice, unfortunately we were placed on the first floor which is nothing special, and where the air conditioning was blowing too hard (despite it having been reduced to a minimum on asking the staff). Now to the food: The amuse bouche served in the reception area was delicious. A little Thai inspired shrimp seasoned and wrapped in a leaf, accompanied by a small coup of white rum with lime juice and jalapino oil. As described just to awaken the taste buds... We selected the 6 dish option, with me taking the wine pairing in addition. Whilst waiting for the first dish we had a glass of sparkling wine, which was quite nice, slightly yeast nose, light and crisp on the palate. The first dish was a trio of (with the ordering in which to eat given by the waiter): small cones of cod, very nice; trompe l'œil oyster shell which was edible and to be spread with the ball of oyster infused butter served as a small ball in the center of the "shell", this was greasy, the shell lacking flavour, so not a success; and finally spinach and wild garlic puree with a fried thin potatoe disk on top, the flavour of the puree was good, but the disk moistened by the puree was difficult to cut through so I folded it up to eat it, it added nothing other than frustration to an otherwise lovely dish. While waiting for the next disk we were served a sesame cracker (nicely spiced) with an artichoke puree, with olive oil and sourdough bread. All of this was delicious, the olive oil exceptional. The second dish was their "standout dish" (guide Michelin terme) of squid carbonara, squid tagliatelle, quail egg yolk, and smoked squid cubes. Indeed this dish stood out from the others, refined flavours, great textures. The third dish, langoustine with yellow Thai curry sauce and kafir oil drops, cauliflower toasted disk and cauliflour puree, this was lovely. Bright distinct flavours, just the cauliflour puree that in comparison was bland and added nothing other than volume to the dish. The fourth dish of cod and a vegetable spaghetti topped with shell fish and served with a spinach sauce was a dish of contrasts, the vegetable spaghetti was superbly seasoned, so much so that the cod in comparison whilst perfectly cooked was bland. A shame. The the fifth dish of quail, nicely cooked with a delicious sauce and lemon flavoured rice shaped pasta, was spoilt by serving it with fried cake which completely overpowered the other delicate and sumptuous flavours. The sixth course desert of chocolate with a vanilla and black garlic ice cream was excellent. And the wine pairing, of a sweet desert wine excellent. Thus in contrast to the wine pairings of the other dishes, not that they did not complement well, but that there was so little flavour in the other wines that frankly I would have been better off with water (I do not recommend taking the wine pairing offer because of this and the very small servings with each dish). And after that we were served a pair of sweets (chocolate truffle and an almond cake?), very good.

Oof - wish I had read the reviews and paid attention to the cancellation policy in the restaurant before booking. We were seated at one of the nicest tables in the restaurant (round window on the ground floor) but that is where it ended. Sadly one of the worst fine dining experiences I have had anywhere in the world. They have plenty of staff but its chaos - it takes them ages (40min+) to refill your drinks, Half of what we were served as vegetarians was actually inedible (neither my teeth nor my knife could make it through one of their courses). Underseasoned food and bizarre combinations. No protein anywhere for a vegetarian of course. Worse still - as soon as the feedback is not over the top complimentary (and we were very soft and kind in giving the feedback) - the service levels drop immediately. It is simply outrageously expensive for the quality of food and service they provide and I cannot honestly recommend it for anyone - especially not if you are vegetarian. By the end of the evening as we did not leave a tip for the total lack of service on our 300eur bill - we showed ourselves out of the restaurant. We took it as fun and a learning experience - but I wish we had listened when warned by our Portuguese friends that this a total tourist trap. I hope this review helps others avoid the experience we had XD. Plenty of other wonderful restaurants in Porto (Oma, Seiva, Em Carne...) that we tried - go there instead lol.
Kavita J — Google review
We enjoyed our experience here, but i will say it was good not great. Some dishes were really delicious, like the one with the red prawns. Others were unremarkable or had a strange pairing. I think they still have a few things to work out before they could be considered really great. Unfortunately, it was also the most expensive meal we had on our trip.
Renee S — Google review
In my life, I have never experienced a plate, mud, and pot served in a so-called gourmet restaurant. DOP Porto completely ruined my evening with my wife on her birthday eve. I will never return to this place. The only saving grace was my lovely wife, who remained calm and smiled despite the staff’s shocking ignorance about the food. Needless to say, the dishes were inedible. Forget Michelin stars—DOP Porto rates a solid minus five in my book.
Jagdish B — Google review
Michelin Star? A dinning experience where the chef choices your food. From 6, 10 or 14 moments. There is no disputing the creativity, preparation and work that went into the dishes. Supposedly a fusion of tradition Portuguese food with an Asian hint. In reality a confusion of textures and flavours. There was no ‘Wow’ factor with the dishes, no moments where the flavours hits your tongue and you nod in appreciation. It was all rather ordinary, nothing outstanding. The recommended wine a ‘sparkling wine’ tasted like a cheap cava. The staff, while professional and knowledgeable, seemed transfixed in their service, there was no eye contact, no smiles, not very welcoming and not adding to the experience. Very functional. Overall, a disappointing, ordinary and expensive experience. There are so many fine dining restaurants in Porto. I’d suggest you look around and go to one of those. I’m sure you will have a far superior flavoursome meal, at a venue with a better atmosphere, more cheerful staff and save yourself a lot of euros. Overall a disappointing dining experience with many ordinary moments.

This is my fourth time coming to this restaurant, and it will also be my last. The restaurant aims to get a Michelin star, and they’ve changed the menu to a tasting menu. Having been to Michelin-starred restaurants, I can regretfully tell you that at your current level, it’s impossible for you to earn a Michelin star! 1/ The biggest issue is the service attitude. The server attending to our table made me feel more like I was being addressed by a school principal than a server. When we made the reservation over the phone, we had clearly specified which table we wanted and received confirmation. However, upon arrival, we were not given the table we requested, and there was no apology. Instead, the server casually pointed to two undesirable tables and said, "These are the only two available; choose one." 2/ Our table was made up of two single-person tables pushed together. When the bread was served, the server placed it on one side of the table. My husband asked for an additional portion of bread for the other side, and she astonishingly replied, "No, we only provide one portion of bread. You can get more once you’ve finished! Just put the bread in the middle!" Such a response and service are truly infuriating! In the first picture, you can see the bread. We’re paying 85 euros per person, 100euro for the wine, and they make us wait until we finish the bread before they’ll bring more! How do they expect to earn a Michelin star with service like this?! 3/ Billing trap! In Porto, tipping is not mandatory, and many restaurants don’t even show a tip line on the bill. If service charges are suggested, they’re listed separately, as an option, even at Michelin-starred restaurants. However, this restaurant sneakily included the tip as part of the itemized bill and calculated it as 10%! This is the first time I’ve ever seen such a thing in Porto! It’s completely taking advantage of tourists! With such a level of service, I don’t think I want to pay the tip. We informed them of our decision not to pay, and they agreed. Michelin inspectors don't just focus on the food itself; service, atmosphere, and attention to detail are also very important. It’s clear that this restaurant still has a lot of room for improvement in these areas.

Salta O Muro is a hidden gem among the fish and seafood restaurants in Matosinhos. The ambiance is unassuming, with old plastic chairs and a handwritten menu, but the real treat is choosing your fresh fish from the counter to be expertly grilled right outside. Specialties include fried European pilchards, grilled largehead tail with green sauce, and anglerfish stew.
This is a family restaurant serving a variety of fresh grilled fish. The potatoes were well seasoned, the vegetables well prepared and flavourful. The grilled fish options for 1 or 2 people were great. Highly recommend for a casual, family style experience. It is a quick Uber ride from downtown.

Salta o Muro is a hidden gem in Matosinhos that captures the essence of Portuguese coastal dining. This family-run restaurant offers an authentic experience, serving fresh seafood in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The menu is a celebration of the sea, featuring daily catches prepared with simplicity and care. From grilled sardines to octopus rice, each dish showcases the natural flavors of the ingredients. The accompanying sides, like the well-seasoned potatoes and fresh vegetables, complement the main courses perfectly. What sets Salta o Muro apart is its commitment to quality and tradition. The staff, including Sr. Moreira and Jorge, provide exceptional service, making guests feel like part of the family. Their knowledge and passion for the cuisine enhance the dining experience. While the prices reflect the quality of the seafood, the value is undeniable. The generous portions and exquisite flavors make every euro well spent. It’s advisable to visit more than once to explore the diverse offerings on the menu. In summary, Salta o Muro is a must-visit for anyone seeking genuine Portuguese seafood in a cozy setting. The combination of fresh ingredients, traditional recipes, and heartfelt hospitality ensures a memorable meal every time.

I walked around the entire block checking out all the restaurants and eventually landed here because it was recommended to me. At first it did not appear to be interesting because their grill is not in front of the street like the other places. However, it’s been the best meal out of my 8 days in Portugal. I wish I could have eaten here everyday. The fish is incredibly fresh and delicious and juicy but very simply prepared. I also appreciated that it was a no frills type of joint unlike the other restaurants that invested in fancy dining. In that sense, I found this restaurant to be very charming. Finally, our meal was very affordable adding up to about 30ish euros. Our server was very kind which I appreciated a lot.

This restaurant was a little difficult to navigate as the waiters spoke limited English but it was more than made up for in hospitality and willingness to help. The food though was insane, the grilled sea bass was nothing short of perfection. Seasoned just right, immaculate crisp with super soft meat inside. The side of green turnip rice was something new and unexpected. The peppers were also great - especially the smaller ones - nice char, well salted. The bread here felt unique to me compared to all the other bread we tried in Portugal, they gave two kinds: one with salted meat embedded in it and another that was insanely dense, slightly sweet and just different. I’ve never had bread like that one. We also got the small fried sardines which were super soft and totally worth it as an appetizer. The chef came out and checked on us and although we don’t speak any Portuguese and she didn’t speak any English it was clear that she was so happy to have us and expressed her gratitude over how we cleaned our plates (nothing was left)

We were given a recommendation from Pão da Terra Cafe and so happy we asked! This little place served us grilled peppers, fresh sea bass, cooked cabbage and to die for potatoes! Paired with a vinho Verde. The servers were friendly and very professional. I don't mean this in a bad way but this place is not fancy, but don't let that fool you, it was one of the best meals we had!

Our favourite meal we had during our Porto trip. Felt like an authentic experience as everyone around us was local. Simple fare but executed perfectly. Our waiter spoke some English and was able to recommend his favourites to us.

Tucked into an otherwise touristy strip on the beach is this familial restaurant run by a small staff and a matriarch in the kitchen - at least that’s what I picked up when I was there. No matter, the food was exquisite - simple, singing, fish dishes with unadulterated vegetable sides dressed in olive oil. The service was beautiful - even if little was shared in terms of language. To put it simply, it was a whole vibe.

Salta o Muro was exactly what we were looking for — authentic, family-run, and full of local flavor. Fresh fish, friendly service, and a lively atmosphere without any tourist fuss. Highly recommended if you want the real Matosinhos vibe. We had the grilled sole, house wine and mousse au chocolat.

Meia-Nau Porto is a renowned restaurant located in the heart of Porto, offering an exquisite selection of fish and seafood dishes. With its charming nautical decor and efficient service, it has quickly become a favorite dining spot for locals and visitors alike. The menu features delectable options such as fried fish with fish egg and bread puree, as well as sumptuous seafood rice abundant with shrimp and mussels.
This restaurant is very popular among Chinese social media users, so you’ll often see Chinese and Taiwanese guests here. Their dining style is a bit different – sharing main dishes instead of the starter–main–dessert order, and usually not tipping. But the staff remain very friendly. I had clams and a one person seafood rice, both tasty and generous. It’s great that solo travellers can request single portions, and the wine is reasonably priced at around €4 a glass. Even the restroom was impressively clean.

We loved this place so much that we unusually ate here three nights during a five-night stay in Porto. The food quality was exceptional. Compared to UK prices the value was amazing. The choice of menu is varied and the choice of totally fresh fish was excellent. Most evenings we could choose from 6 or 7 different fish. The staff are knowledgeable, friendly yet courteous and highly efficient. The wines are good quality and great value . This should be on everyone’s radar if you like seafood. Absolutely brilliant!

We first tried to go to sister restaurant Mare by Meia-Nau, but there was a big line and it doesn't take reservations. So we reserved at Meia-Nau (reservations required). The menu is extensive and the decor is nice. The food was good but not exceptional for the price. We had the grilled sardines, the fish soup and the seafood rice. The soup was good but small, the seafood in the rice was overcooked and the sardines weren't as good as others we had in Porto. Service was average. The highlight was the fondant cake for dessert, which takes 20 mins to prepare. The cake was decadent with a rich caramel flavor and served hot right from the oven. Overall, I believe there is better seafood in Porto.

The seafood rice and the grilled octopus were both delicious. Fresh, flavourful, and perfectly cooked. The service was outstanding. When the staff found out it was my daughter’s birthday, they surprised her with a little cake and lit a candle to celebrate. It was such a sweet and memorable gesture. Warm, attentive service and great food, truly a wonderful restaurant.

The restaurant has a good design. The food presentation is also good, although the taste itself was just okay for me. The seafood rice was warm and comfortable especially during the cold, but I felt that I was looking for more flavor (but maybe that’s because I’m Asian). Make sure to reserve as it was very full. Service was friendly, although when we arrived for our reservation, our table wasn’t ready yet.

Food was good, reasonable price, and people there are friendly, welcoming and attentive. They do not pushed for more, and instead told us to stop when it might be too much for us to eat, everything was great! Would definitely revisit when returning to Porto :) book before hand or visit during lunch, as they are always full every evening!!

The hotel we stay is 2 minutes walking distance away from the restaurant and we had been there three times! The fish soup and seafood rice are delicious, the grilled green peppers are tasty too. The staff is friendly and courteous. We have enjoyed our experiences there very much, three times!

We can highly recommend the clams and the sea bass — the charcoal-grilled flavor was excellent. The atmosphere was lovely, the staff were friendly, and the food offered great quality for a fair price. Possibly the best meal we had in Porto.

We had a wonderful lunch right in the center of Porto. The food was delicious – we tried the Francesinha and Goat salad. It absolutely lived up to the hype. Rich, flavorful, and really satisfying. The service was also lovely – the staff were very friendly and welcoming. A great spot to relax and enjoy a traditional Portuguese meal. Highly recommend ⭐️

What an incredible experience! This place is truly amazing, with a fantastic and cozy atmosphere. We were seated on the upper floor – just watch out for the low ceilings ;) From there, we had a great view of the bustling waiters and all the tables filled with happy guests. The pleasant hum of conversation created a unique, vibrant energy. For our appetizer, we had the mushroom and asparagus dish with an egg. It was a flavor explosion—an absolute must-try! As a main course, we chose the classic Portuguese dish, francesinha, prepared in the traditional way. The portion was huge and incredibly filling, and we regretted not ordering the half-portion, as we had no room left for dessert. We didn't have a reservation, but we arrived just before the afternoon opening time. We waited for a short time in line and were given a table for an hour, which was more than enough thanks to the quick service. It was a truly fantastic dining experience! Thank you!

we were very lucky to take the last available table walking in at 6:45pm. portion of food is large and the staff was very nice of reminding us. innovative cooking method of onion, the beef with mushroom is fabulous that not too salty. the signature dish - francesinha are mix of meat, cheese, toast with homemade sauce: recommend to order half of size to leave room for more food. drinks are decorative and with good taste. overall is a pleasant experience as our first meal in Porto!

Apparently, this spot is known for having one of the best Francesinhas in Porto—and it truly lived up to its reputation! The meats were of great quality and tasted premium, with generous portion sizes (you can even opt for a half Francesinha if you’re not too hungry). We really enjoyed the cozy atmosphere and the attentive service. The restaurant was full, so be sure to book a table in advance!

I am visiting Porto for almost 3 years, at least 3-4 weeks a year. The best food for me is by far Francesinha. Every time I take an uber ask then what francesinha he thinks is the best, so you can imagine I ate a lot of them already. However tonight I found the place, where I can say with confidence that has the best. You need to order with bife do lombo & egg and just enjoy this magical meal. I am a Man of perfection and so was this Francesinha. 10/10 recommended
Jan M — Google review
Great restaurant with a delicious Francesinha! Unlike many other places, the cheese was nicely melted and the sausage was full of flavor. The only downside was the beef, it was quite tough and hard to cut, which spoiled it a little. Other than that, the service was friendly and fast, even without a reservation we got a table for an hour. Keep in mind that one Francesinha is easily enough for two people.
Vagner F — Google review
Excellent restaurant and service. I had a reservation for 10 pm, but they helped me get a seat at 8:20 pm. The wine was excellent, and the food was delicious. But without a doubt, the ribs are on another level; the 48-hour wine marinade makes them exquisite. We ordered half a pica, but it's really spicy. For those who don't tolerate it well, it ends up being a nuisance to finish the dish. The accompaniment was orange salad, simply fresh, juicy and sweet. The attention from the entire staff was magnificent; everyone treated us with such love. I would definitely come back.

This restaurant has a very bad service, especially the black waitress. I’m Chinese and she is very rude to me but towards the other people she is polite, which is a bit racism. The food was horrible, the dish Francesinha it taste very salty can the beef inside is totally raw, also the beef sandwich l ordered well done and when they served it, it is over cooked it tastes like rubber and l refused to pay for these two dishes, but they said if it tastes bad l have to talk to them while I’m eating it which is unbelievable. This restaurant should never get good reviews, but it turns out they have lots of good reviews which it is not understandable. Over all l don recommend this restaurant, they have bad service and disgusting food.

Tapabento S.Bento is a cozy restaurant located in Porto, offering a mix of Portuguese and international cuisine in a laid-back atmosphere. The menu features delicious tapas such as wild prawn risotto, wild tuna tataki, and ceviche, along with popular dishes like Black Angus spare ribs. While the wine list may not be extensive, it offers good examples from different regions. The restaurant's owners are passionate travelers who aim to create a welcoming environment for guests from diverse backgrounds.
We arrived right when the restaurant opened, and it was clear that this place is extremely popular—getting a table without a reservation seemed quite difficult. Luckily, thanks to the kind host, we were able to get a seat even without a booking. As the host was showing us to our table, he asked where we were from, and it turned out he wanted to give us a menu in our own language. I was pleasantly surprised by this thoughtful gesture—usually, even when visiting non-English-speaking countries, you have to ask for an English menu, but this place had menus available in so many different languages. That alone made me feel warmly welcomed. The napkins and tablecloths were beautiful, and the interior decor was unique and charming. Our server, Alberto, was incredibly friendly. We’re from Spain and Korea, and he even used a mix of Spanish and Korean while speaking with us, which made the whole experience feel even more special. His kind and attentive service truly elevated the meal. The wonderful lady owner, Isabel seemed to be walking around the restaurant making sure everyone was having a good time. She personally served the dishes we ordered onto our individual plates and explained how to enjoy them—it felt like being a guest at someone’s home, with a loving mother serving the food she made herself. She speaks Spanish, French, English, Italian, and German fluently! And of course, the food was absolutely delicious. We were so full we thought we might burst, but still didn’t leave a single bite behind. It was a truly perfect meal—from the delicious dishes to the positive energy of the staff. If any of my friends visit Porto, I will definitely recommend this restaurant to them.

Literally one of our favorite meals in Portugal! Was recommended this place by my friend back at home! What you find here is delicious asian fusion with a Portuguese flare and beautiful flavors! We approve (and we are from California with a lot of great Asian restaurants)! We wish we had this restaurant back at home! We were greeted by the sweetest owner who treated us like old friends! We loved the following: 1. Chicken noodles 2. Nasi goreng 3. The duck medium rare (beautifully cooked, with crispy skin) 4. Peanut dessert (just do it, so good!) We recommend making a reservation ahead of time! But if you have to wait, it’s still worth the wait! Obrigada, until next time!

The food and ambiance was fantastic. Excellent and sincere service, with the owner welcoming you and working the tables, friendly team. Engaged and helpful, and as they say in their welcoming text, make you feel like at their table. We had the fish soup and thai mussels and both were very good, fresh, tasty. Other dishes on tables also looked very good. Would come back either way no hesitation. The location is gorgeous entering by the main lobby of the historic train station. The space is tall and tables well set apart.

From the moment you enter Tapabento you feel at home! The staff is so welcoming, taking time to really know their guests which makes the entire experience unforgettable. Hidden inside the train station, the restaurant’s design is quirky and full of personality. The food is DELICIOUS! The flavours lingered long after I had finished, and I cannot recommend the fish soup highly enough. If could literally eat at Tapabento every day the food is that good! Thank you Isabelle and team for making my last day in Porto such a great one, I will definitely be back! ❤️

We went without a reservation, and the restaurant was really busy so we had to wait quite a bit. But the staff worked so hard to accommodate us, and it truly paid off. The food was absolutely delicious! There were so many different dishes to choose from, and everything we tried was full of flavor and clearly made with care. I had seen so many good reviews beforehand, and honestly, I was a bit nervous that the wait might lead to disappointment but they absolutely did not disappoint. The owner and staff felt like a close-knit family, and even in the middle of the chaos, they were all incredibly friendly and welcoming. They really created a warm and positive atmosphere and it felt good to be there. Highly recommend!

A sole traveller, only had half of a day left in porto before leaving at 3pm. I was looking for a good reasonably priced tapas place for lunch before flying off , chanced on Taoabento. Knowing how popular the place is and it was already 11pm I dropped a letter thinking no luck ..But no, Isabel replied to say no problem reserved a spot next morning..So surprised, got there on time was slightly hard to find, hidden within the train station/beside the platform ! Food was fabulous, Isabel came to recommend her own preference...I was a fan of mussle she was willing to change it with clams. I overheard the waitor's recommendation on ox tail "dim sum". Tempted added to order, and I did not regret of making that choice ! Was not the cheapest, but for the quality , freshness and creativity , taste of food was worth every single cent. Thanks for your hospitality. Hope to come back soon again to try the other dishes, not alone!

Café Santiago is a laid-back dining spot renowned for its delectable egg-topped sandwiches and hearty comfort fare, along with a selection of beers. The star of the menu is the Francesinha, Portugal's take on the croque-monsieur, featuring layers of cured ham, smoke-cured pork sausage seasoned with garlic and paprika, chipolata, roast meat smothered in melted cheese and sometimes topped with a fried egg.
We had the steak sandwich and had it split into two portion just add €1+. I can’t remember. But you’d get extra eggs and fries as it’s split to two plates. Well worth it as we’re not big eaters plus we then get to order another dish! Service was fast and prompt. We were early so no queue for us.

I visited this restaurant hoping to enjoy an authentic francesinha, but unfortunately, the experience was quite disappointing. The biggest issue was the service: the staff was unprofessional and overly familiar, calling me "my love" and touching my arm, which made me uncomfortable. I don't know if it is part of portuguese culture but a more respectful and professional attitude would be greatly appreciated as a tourist. As for the food, while I understand that francesinha is a local specialty and many people love it, it wasn’t to my personal taste. However, I respect that this might just be a matter of preference. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this place based on my experience, mainly due to the service.

Good afternoon, I had dinner here today. And I am very disappointed. At first glance, the food looked good. But the reality was completely different. The meat smelled slightly off, but more importantly, it wasn't cooked through. I didn't finish my meal and reported everything to the waiter. I was asked if I wanted the meat cooked further. I said no, because there wasn't much left. Then the waiter took the food away and that was it. I find it really outrageous to serve someone raw meat and not even apologise, let alone make the customer pay the full amount. I understand that this can happen sometimes, but the staff's reaction must be different!!!!

Francesinha is a Porto classic, and around Café Santiago you’ll find several places specializing in it. This restaurant, with entrances from both Rua de Santo Ildefonso and Rua de Passos Manuel, clearly takes its Francesinha seriously — it’s offered in several variations. As one reviewer said perfectly: “I’m glad I tried it, but I don’t need to try it again.” It’s definitely an acquired taste, but hearty and filling — arrive hungry. My wife had Bacalhau à Braga, which was nicely prepared, and we finished with Aletria — a dessert made from thin noodles simmered in sweet milk and dusted with cinnamon. Service was friendly and quick, rounding out a solid local experience.

Tried the famous francesinha at Café Santiago and it delivered. Rich, hearty, and indulgent, with a perfectly balanced spicy beer sauce. The portion is generous, the meat is tender, and the melted cheese blanket is pure comfort. Service was quick and friendly despite the crowd. If you are in Porto and want to try the city’s signature dish, this is the place. Go hungry.

The night before I was searching on YouTube for authentic and signature eats in Porto. Found this place and was impressed by the portion size. Walked from the Hilton which took me 30min. I thought going there right after the lunch rush would land me in a close to empty restaurant. I was wrong. 3pm still packed both inside and out. The no nonsense server just pointed to the bar which I sat. I ordered the staple with fries as well as a tomato salad. All meat and zero green in sight. The gravy was a tad bit salty but the bread balanced that out. Was nice that I could try a Porto speciality. Glad I didn’t add more carbs with a beer because I was pretty full after meal. The vibes of the restaurant were fast paced and pretty much eat and scram. Good experience all in all.

The restaurant Chez Lapin is well-known for its beautiful terrace right next to the Rio Douro. The chefs recommend ordering the baked octopus and cod or the rabbit entree. It's an emblematic restaurant that has been serving the city for 70 years.
Top notch food. I have the pork cheeks every time I go. Delicious. Knowledgeable Wait-staff. Make sure to walk behind the promenade along the Douro River to see the interior space of this restaurant which has an amazingly decorated ceiling, and ancient timbers that formed part of the old wall of the old city of Porto. Good wine list, And a waiter to guide you through it all.

Mediocre food but great location right by the river. Really nice atmosphere at night. Service was quick although they were busy. Not so attentive though. Food was alright, nothing special. Steak was just not good quality. The chicken dish was pretty good. The sausages had a good presentation but taste wise lacked flavour. Overall would not recommend. 5/10

Great location by the river. We sat outside and were able to order quickly. Everything was generally ok, however the rabbit was very tough. We couldn’t cut it with knives and had to resort to fingers in order to eat it!! Rabbit should be cooked until it almost falls off the bone and is tender and sweet. The gravy however was divine! The wine was very good too. Service was efficient. I feel this restaurant caters more for tourists, but the view is beautiful.

Service was top match wonderful view. My wife’s fish and the sausage was really good, my pork loin was a little bit dry.

This was the worst dinner I’ve ever had, without question. First, the hygiene was appalling: some staff handled food directly with their bare hands, went from carrying slop buckets straight back to cooking, and even placed receipts right on top of prepared dishes. Absolutely unacceptable. Second, the food quality was dreadful. The paella was served cold, as if the rice and seafood were just carelessly mixed together. Almost all of the clams were closed, which means they had already died before cooking—clearly not fresh, and truly concerning. I would strongly advise against coming here.

We had the cod "Bacalhau a Brás" , vegetarian risotto and dessert. I can definitely recommend the creme brulee. The wine pairing was perfect and the food was amazing. When the food first arrived I thought we would still be hungry but by the end we were completely full. If we had more time I would definitely return.

PRO'S: Cantinho do Avillez offers Michelin star quality food, wine & service with excellent value pricing. After our first visit we returned two evenings later to try delicious Duck, Curry & Rice with a range of starters, all excellent. We rave about 100% Portuguese white, rose & white wines. Beware, no car parking in old city section of Porto. CON'S: Absolutely none. SUMMARY: Cantinho do Avillez delivers quality food & wine worth a special night. We will return.

The restaurant isn't too spacious, but the food we ate was good. Made a reservation and glad we did. Even after finishing dinner, we saw people lining up to go inside. The string bean tempura, and veal curry were really good. The vegetables cooked with the veal dish were really yummy. Cod dish was a bit too simple for us. Would have loved to try the duck!

Had an early dinner at 6pm for a special occasion - I’m pleased to say the service and food were so lovely and quick:) Thank you to the servers for being so attentive and even preparing a beautiful complementary chocolate fondue cake for my boyfriend’s birthday. The most popular dish seems to be the scallops and mushrooms risotto (delicious) and we saw many people ordering the octopus, which looked gorgeous. The only thing I would say is the music is very pop-y and English, it would be much more romantic to have some Portuguese or more fitting music:) Additionally, the tables were quite close together. Overall, a successful experience on our first night in Porto.

Great meal with friends - delicious tempura green beans and cod bites starters and delicious veal risotto and chicken salad with avocado. Avillez Rose by the glass was stunning and very good value. Fabulous atmosphere and great staff

I visited the restaurant on a whim and had lunch without a wait. The octopus tartare and marinated scallops I ordered as starters were excellent, and the main dishes, scallop risotto and flaked scallops, were also of exceptional quality.

Recommend the green beans and cod dish. The almond dessert with raspberry sorbet was lovely to finish. Thought the wine was expensive at €9.50 a glass but overall good value & well presented. Nice setting and efficient staff

I made a last minute 10:00 pm Saturday reservation & was seated right away. The service was amazing by the manager the whole time. I ordered veal cheek with curry gravy and Thai rice. I also got the shrimp tacos (2) as appetizer - I was perfectly filled & will recommend this restaurant to others

ODE Porto Wine House is a charming boutique nestled on the Douro River, offering a genuine experience of Porto's charm and historical beauty. The city's passionate locals are known for their love of The North and its gastronomy, making it an important destination in Western Europe. The wine bar-come-restaurant takes pride in sourcing local organic produce to pair with its wines, offering meticulously crafted dishes in a beautiful setting.
Ode Porto delivered on every level. The service was attentive and knowledgeable, with excellent wine recommendations that perfectly matched the meal. The food was top-notch across the board, but the steak with 3-day cooked sauce was next level—easily one of the best I’ve ever had. Perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and paired with a series of great wines. To top it off, the chocolate fondant was rich, perfectly gooey, and balanced by the bright, homemade orange ice cream. A perfect finish to an incredible meal. If you’re in Porto, this place is a must.

We had our first dinner here, in Porto and it was great! Delicious food and great service! Their sommelier was a fun guy, very helpful with the wines and also let us experience what Porto's wines are like!

Ode Porto is an absolute treat. We were here at the end of May and the experience was unforgettable. You step in from the hustle and bustle of the streets and immediately everything slows down. The staff was fantastic from beginning to end and the owner makes you feel like a guest in his house. The love and care for what they do here is apparent. Each dish was fantastic and wine offerings were just as good. I wish we could have tried it all. A standout dish for me was the Cabidela Rice. A dish that seems rustic but was so complex in flavors. Highly recommended this gem when you are in Porto.

What a beautiful and intimate evening at Ode Porto Wine House! I joined my friend for his birthday dinner, and from the moment we entered, it was clear this wasn’t just another restaurant — it was a place where care, detail, and soul are put into everything. The food was exceptional, the wine selection was on point, and the ambiance… simply perfect for a memorable celebration. A special thank you to the owner, Mr. Cristóvão Sousa, for his generosity and warm hospitality — the surprise at the end was so thoughtful and added a heartfelt touch to the night. Highly recommended for those who appreciate authentic Portuguese flavors served with love 💫 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I cannot express how special my time was at ODE. First of all, I had single handedly the best food I have had in Portugal. We had the tripes as an appetizer which was so good that my finance and I thought about just ordering more orders of that as our entire meal. But then the main courses came out which absolutely stunned. I had the octopus rice which was perfectly seasoned and not at all too heavy. My partner got the Iberian pork ribs which literally fell off the bone and melted in your mouth. Dessert was the owners own mothers pudding which had us savoring every bite. We were introduced to our new favorite champagne - the entirety was more than we could have hoped for. The history behind this place is moving and the devotion to family, tradition, culture, quality, and food was very touching. The owner wrote us a handwritten congratulations on our engagement on a hand painted parting gift. What an experience- I hope each and every person at ODE knows that they have given us a once in a lifetime production!

Tucked inside a centuries-old wine cellar in the heart of Porto, Ode isn’t just a restaurant — it’s a love letter to heritage, hospitality, and the kind of soulful cooking that lingers long after the last bite. From the moment you step through the doors, you’re met with a welcome note that immediately sets the tone: a tribute to the chef’s mother and grandmother — the original culinary muses — whose recipes, warmth, and spirit still guide the kitchen today. The space itself is intimate, rustic, and rich with history, the stone walls echoing with the quiet clink of wine glasses and the soft hum of conversation. But what truly sets Ode apart isn’t just the setting — it’s the people. The owner/sommelier treated us like family, offering expert wine pairings with heartfelt conversation and the kind of hospitality that feels instinctual, not rehearsed. And then, the food. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender, glazed in something sweet and smoky that made silence fall across the table. The chicken — deceptively simple — was cooked to perfection, juices running, each bite layered with warmth and care. Every plate felt personal, as if it had been made just for us. Ode is a place where time slows, stories are shared, and meals become memories. It’s the kind of restaurant you wish you could take home with you — but instead, you carry it in your heart (and on your taste buds) long after you’ve left.

Wow! We celebrated our anniversary here in October 2025, based on a recommendation from a friend. Cute and great food, wine and port. My dish was outstanding. My wife liked but did not love her dish. The owner visits every table to ask how things are going. When he heard she liked but did not love her dish, we were totally surprised and charmed when he volunteered to replace it. Her replacement was one of her favorite dinners in a 3 week journey throughout Portugal. I had a great colheita from 1982 (our anniversary year)....expensive but the best ever. One minor vignette....we were seated downstairs near some doors/windows...very cute. Some guests stepped out for a smoke, and smoke wafted in. Yuck. We mentioned to owner, and he skillfully and diplomatically asked the others to step away. They had no idea their smoke was wafting in, and they quickly and apologetically moved further away. Problem solved. Kudos to owner for handling.

The restaurant is known for its quality, authenticity, stellar service, and affordable prices. It's conveniently situated about 10 minutes from the city center on the Riviera.
Fantastic family run restaurant offering traditional Portuguese cuisine. We were seeking seafood and were tempted to order a bunch of appetizers, but the waiter recommended the Seafood rice and it was delicious! Flavourful, packed with clams, mussels, shrimps, calamari… it was an enormous portion for 2. We didn’t need anything else. Waiter also recommended a great glass of red to go with our meal which was perfect. All the other dishes going out looked incredible, we wish we had time to come here again.

I was in Portugal in April for a short Erasmus course and, coincidentally, ended up celebrating my birthday alone while returning home through Porto. When I asked the staff for a cake and a candle, they discovered it was my birthday and spontaneously sang "Happy Birthday” for me. Needless to say, I shed a tear or two! The food and drinks were outstandingly delicious, and I’m so happy I stumbled upon this place by chance at the end of the day. You made my 23rd birthday unforgettable, obrigada! 🇵🇹❤️🇺🇦

This place is a must if you are in Porto. It is a beautiful family run business. We started with the spicy mussels and garlic butter octopus. We ordered extra bread go these as the sauces were amazing. We then shared the grilled seafood, again, delicious and so fresh. For dessert, I had the cheesecake with red fruit and my boyfriend the cookies and cream dessert as recommended by our waiter. 🫶🏻

We had dinner in this lovely restaurant, and the food was really good. We didn’t want to enter at first, because we didn’t see anybody inside. But all the diners were on the second floor. We started with a seafood soup, which was such a good surprise. For main course we had fish, which was fresh and tasty. The desert was cheesecake, with a topping chosen by the waiter 😃. O Buraco is a traditional restaurant in the heart of Porto, near the famous Bolhao market. With over 50 years of history, this establishment offers authentic Portuguese cuisine at reasonable prices. The menu features classic dishes such as boiled cabeca de pescada, carapaus de escabeche, and figado de cebolada. Additionally, daily specials like feijoada a Buraco and tripas a Buraco showcase regional flavors.
probably one of the best restaurants in Porto. If looking for genuine Portuguese cuiscine, this is the absolutely place. serving hours are 1200-1500, 1900 -2300, it is always fully packed, need to queue up for tables. It can seat about 70 guests, but got very few waiters so they are really busy and rushing all the time. But the kitchen is very quick. First time I went, not knowing they only serve tripa fridays and saturdays. So ending up I had the famous Portuguese sausage Alheira, which is not my cup of tea. Went again and finally had the awesome Tripas a Moda do Porto. Incredibly tasty and tender, even the rice is flavorful and well cooked. I will return again. On the 3rd visit, I had duck rice. O Buraco is definitely the best..

Incredible food. Literally the tastiest most filling chicken and salad I’ve ever had. The service was outstanding and so was the food/drinks. The highlight was the cheesecake recommended by our server, which I have thought about loads since eating. This was definitely worth the queue (only a short one).

Got this recommendation after putting into Gemini: authentic, value for money, Portuguese traditional restaurant. This restaurant came up on top. So popular we had to wait outside to get a table. Service is better than it seems. It was full so we got a corridor table which was fine. There were more tables in the basement. Food was great. Tasty and efficient. Waiter recommended that we didn't over order as portions were generous. Ordered soups. Had the biftek and the cod buraco. Both lovely. Topped up the vinho verde with some tawny port after dessert. Came to be €65 for 2

Great food, good price and good portion size. The menu is not big but everything we had was very good. They serve mostly fish and some meat dishes. I did not notice anything with crab, shrimp, clam or mussels. Come before 7:30 if you can or you might have to wait outside.

Came here 3 times because I can’t find another place with better price/quality. Duck rice, fried sardines were great. Wish they can make the Wednesday special (meat and bean stew) available everyday. Service is average not that welcoming, but at least efficient.

O Buraco offers authentic, local Portuguese cuisine that truly delights. Their bean rice and sardines are standout dishes we absolutely love. The prices are very reasonable, making it the perfect spot to enjoy genuine flavors while avoiding typical tourist traps. Don’t miss their special sangrias, available in sparkling and berry varieties, which set them apart from other places.

Restaurant
Culto ao Bacalhau is a restaurant in Porto, named after the famous salted cod dish that's essential to Portuguese cuisine. Located next to the Douro River, it offers a variety of cod-based dishes with unique twists like dried fruits or spinach and chestnuts. The restaurant is known for its friendly staff and peaceful ambiance. Visitors have praised the generous portions and tasty roasted cod served in clay pans.
I had an amazing dining experience at Culto Ao Bacalhau. We arrived right as the lunch crowd was leaving, so the restaurant was quiet. From start to finish, everything was excellent. Our server, Anderson Filipa, was outstanding — knowledgeable, attentive, and made great recommendations. I ordered the Bacalhau, which was lightly fried then oven-roasted — the flavors were outstanding. My dinner companion had the medium-rare steak, and it was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Anderson also suggested a white wine that paired beautifully with the meal. We finished with a decadent sponge cake that was the perfect ending. The atmosphere was elegant yet comfortable, and the chef’s opening gift — fresh bread with accompaniments including a delicious crushed olive dip — was a lovely touch. Truly a five-star experience. It’s no surprise they’ve earned their Michelin star. I highly recommend!
TC C — Google review
Food is extremely overpriced. Very poor menu, mostly contains cod fish as a base. Awful so-called “sponge cake”, it’s not sponge at all, it’s disgusting and undercooked. We tried almost all the menu, and pretty nice was only octopus salad (if it was octopus without salad). The service, though, was very good, but it was a very bad idea to go there and spend that amount of money for so bad tasting experience. You should think twice if you still want to go there. I wouldn’t recommend this place at all.
Maryna V — Google review
If Porto has a temple dedicated to codfish (bacalhau), it's Culto ao Bacalhau. This restaurant takes Portugal's most iconic ingredient and elevates it into an unforgettable dining experience. Every single dish we tried was creative and delicious. Cozy modern atmosphere, great wine list, and super friendly and professional staff. We are looking forward to going back to Culto ao Bacalhau on our next trip to Porto.
Guillermo M — Google review
Culto ao Bacalhau is a fantastic spot for anyone who loves Portuguese cuisine and, of course, cod! The service was outstanding—our server was so friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was also great, with a warm and inviting feel. The food was good overall, but after a few dishes, the focus on cod became a bit overwhelming. Still, it’s a great restaurant, and I highly recommend it if you’re a big fan of the ingredient.
Paul L — Google review
Huge let down. The food was very mediocre for how much it cost. Water costs as much as a glass of wine. Service was terrible. I’m not sure if the waiter was a little standoffish towards me because I was a solo diner or for other cultural reasons. I saw him talking warmly and explaining dishes to other parties but not me. He was sarcastic and abrupt with me. When I asked for the bill, he forgot about it. I was patient and waited 15mins then I saw him getting into the lift across from the market. Definitely not worth it. At all.
Constance L — Google review
Stunning restaurant in the market. We had the cod fillets to start and the steak and cod and prawns as the mains and it was delicious and just perfect! I’m amazed by this place. Ask for port at the end and witness the huge bottle. Wonderful service too. Fantastic!

The food here is absolutely amazing! We had the cod au gratin which was really tasty and very filling, and the 🍅 tomato and tuna 🐟 salad 🥗which was very fresh and delicious. The service was excellent and the restaurant has a warm ambience. 💡
Rani — Google review
This place is pretty good, but nothing too exceptional. The fish was tasty but too much olive oil for my taste. Starters were really good, though, and it was nice that they gave us a small cake for free for takeaway when we were leaving. Service was good, but we waited maybe like 30 mins for the main meal. Also, it's a common area, so they don't have toilets in their restaurants there; you have to go outside to the toilet. 4/5

This wonderful restaurant, recommended by a good friend of ours, was well worth the 30 minute Uber ride from Vilanova de Gaia. The food quality was extraordinary, the fish and shrimp were swim-fresh and cooked to perfection. We had boiled bouquet shrimp (camarão da costa) and clams as starters, followed by a deliciously grilled wild seabass. The waiter insisted on serving us the home-made almond tart as a desert, accompanied by a 10-year old Madeira (verdelho). We picked a delicious sparkling wine from the Bairrada region to accompany the entire meal: “Agua Viva”. Prices were very reasonable considering the quality of food. A memorable dinner for sure. Will be back! Highly recommended!

Beautiful restaurant in Matosinhos. Service is really old school (older waiters, limited English but they’re doing their best). We wanted to know how many oysters are in 1kg and he actually brought us the oysters on a platter to see how many are there. I think it’s expensive by local standards but we enjoyed it. Got some fresh oysters (1kg), 2 big prawns, one portion of clams and cod plus a bottle of house white wine. Total damage: 120Eur

The most delicious prawns ever. We had some really delicious and fresh seafood. Every plate had its own unique flavour and the restaurant was quiet and very relaxing. A little more expensive than all the other places we went in Porto but it's worth it if you are a seafood lover.

**NOTE: Was invited for a wine tasting dinner so did not pick up the check. Based on what we ordered I would say it was about 40€ per person. Additionally I didn’t want to be rude to our hosts or the establishment so I didn’t immediately take photos are usual. With that being said, everything was fantastic. The service was attentive, fun but not intrusive. Started with oysters which were a perfect balance of salinity flavors and freshness. Having spent some time on Nantucket, I will say they stand up to that competition. We enjoyed a huge chilled seafood platter with some of the best prawns and crab dip I have ever had. After that we enjoyed the clams and lobster rice soup. Both were great with well balanced flavors but the lobster soupy rice took it for me. We finished with an assortment of desserts with my favorite being this little almond crunch bite. All of this paired with some amazing Ramos Pinto white wines. I would definitely go back when in the area.

Visited off the back of a recommendation and were not disappointed. What an amazing, cosy and friendly place. We had the 10 moments menu, which was exquisite. The food was totally original, wine was superb and topped off with perfect port. The team were unbelievably helpful and friendly. Brilliant place.
Martin E — Google review
We had an incredible lunch experience at Almeja, opting for their 10 Moments menu, and it did not disappoint. Every course was meticulously crafted, bringing out bold and refined flavors that showcased both creativity and technical skill. Each dish felt like a thoughtfully curated experience rather than just a meal. The service was truly exceptional—attentive without being intrusive. Small gestures, like ensuring our water glasses were always full and even bringing me a purse hanger when they noticed my bag had fallen, made a lasting impression. It’s these details that elevate a great restaurant to an outstanding one. We also chose the wine pairings, spaced out every 2-3 courses, which complemented the food beautifully. The selection was well-balanced and enhanced the experience without overwhelming the palate. One of the biggest surprises was the second dessert—a curry and coconut ice cream. We weren’t sure what to expect, but it completely shocked us in the best way possible. The balance of spice, creaminess, and sweetness was unexpected yet absolutely delightful. For the quality of food, service, and overall experience, Almeja is very reasonably priced, making it an excellent choice for those looking to enjoy a special meal in Porto. Highly recommended!

The food here was incredible! I only wish I was hungry enough for the tasting menu when I went. The octopus rice dish was perhaps my favorite octopus dish I’ve ever had. I'm not qualified to comment on how traditionally Portuguese this food was - but I really enjoyed it. Texture, flavors, presentation. I would happily dine here again.

Non touristic place, you can find only locals eat here - that is a great sign. They are offering both fish and meat. You need too try veal meat and goat meat that is typical. Nice list of wines. This time service a bit too slow but usually this is not a case. Stuff is nice & kind. The place is known for many years and recently got renovated with some Scandinavian interior touch (that is not common in Porto), prices are fair.

Service was really nice. The food was amazing, and I really recommend giving the "pastel de nata" as a dessert a try. The only downside is the price, as it's a bit too high for my liking. However, I will for sure return one day, as the rest makes up for it!

Casa Guedes Progresso is a Portuguese restaurant located in Vila Nova de Gaia, Porto. It's known for its delicious food, great service, and age (dating from 1899!). The interior of the restaurant is interesting and it feels like stepping back in time.
I really enjoyed the food, and I have to highlight that the pork sandwich is a must-try at this place. As a starter, I ordered a codfish croquette with sheep cheese, which was also very good, but I have to say the sandwich was outstanding. It was absolutely delicious. I was served by a guy named Sydney, and the service was excellent. The atmosphere was also great, and overall it’s a place where you can eat very well.

We visited this place yesterday and had an amazing experience! Our waitress, Marriana, gave us the best service we’ve had in all of Portugal. She was approachable, always smiling, kind, and gave us genuine recommendations. We tried the passion fruit sangria, octopus, and sandwich #14 (with Brie and caramelised onions). Everything was excellent! The sangria was rich in citrus and fresh fruit, the octopus was perfectly cooked and impressively served as a whole (not just a few tentacles like in most places), and the sandwich was absolutely delicious—even though we had initially hoped to try Bifanas, but Marriana’s recommendation did not disappoint. The prices are also on point. The only small suggestion would be to serve lemon wedges with the octopus. Highly recommended!

GOTTA TRY THE ICONIC SANDWICH. (Get the beef version with an egg on top) Got recommend by the taxi driver who brought us to our hotel, so local street cred is definitely there. Food was great, sandwich + pardon peppers + Picanha steak (fries was 10/10) + Pint of SB and Pint of Somersby. Really lovely environment, great how it’s not too loud so you can still hear from people on your table. Staff are great, despite my liability of Portugues, everyone was super helpful and was a great vibe. Coming back for sandwiches next time, ate logo🫡

Words can’t properly describe how much I loved sandwich no.8 . It was absolutely amazing, the pork was so tender and all the ingredients of good quality. Service was always fast and nice at the 2 locations I’ve been to ( Progresso& Tradicional). I will be coming back for sure each time I will visit Porto.

Honorable mention to the staff, they were all amazing and made us feel really welcomed. The food was amazing too. They have lots of different options so it was amazing. Every dish was spectacular. Would definitely recommend and give the carrot cake and chocolate mousse cake a try.

The food was amazing! I ordered Salmon with tomato rice and it was really really good, also the duck risotto. I saw so many octopus dishes coming out and I felt bad for not ordering it because it looked out of this world. Can’t wait to come back and try it

While in Portugal, trying a Bifana is a must. The Bifana here at Case Guesdes were good but not as good as the ones we had in Lisbon. This restaurant does have other Portuguese dishes on their menu besides Bifana so it is a great place to stop by and have dinner especially after a long day of walking.

Good place to try the Francesinha, ours came loaded with lots of meat, it was great value for the money, in addition to a $3 euro gigantic plate of fries. The gravy it came with was also delicious and made the dish so much better. I have to admit we were skeptical of the francesinha but glad we decided to try it here! We also ordered the octopus but could have given it a miss as it was a bit mushy and not very fresh, although it came with a large portion of spinach that was seasoned well.

Gruta is a charming and smaller restaurant in Porto that offers incredible food. Visitors have raved about the mushroom ravioli and knifefish dishes, as well as the bisque with lemongrass flavor. The restaurant is known for its exceptional service, ambiance, and perfectly paced meals. It's located in the central shopping area of Porto, making it a convenient spot after exploring the city.
My daughter had researched this restaurant as a treat before starting the Camino Portuguese. Everything was flawless, from the location, to the friendly, helpful staff and, of course, the delicious food. The plates were perfectly executed and the food was amazing. If I am lucky enough to return to Porto and I will definitely make a bee line back to Gruta!

Truly excellent. This was by far our favorite meal of our entire trip. I recommend making a reservation. The food was remarkable, especially what they do with the red shrimp! FANTASTIC!! Staff was incredibly friendly and professional. We had an amazing time, I would highly recommend this place.

We have a Wonderful dinning experience at Gruta last night. From the reservation to the foods and main dinning room atmosphere, everything is great. From Appetizer to main course to deserts, they are presented excellently. The seaweed with fermented butter match well with focaccia. Low temperature cooked Scallop SCALLOP, TUCUPI & TANGERINE are very tender. We order the CARABINEER RICE and FISH MOQUECA. Both are exceeding our expectation. For deserts, we were very full so we ordered the Gelato with wasabi. OMG, the sweet, spicy and tangy complex but smooth gelato are the best one I have ever tasted . The dinning experience at Gruta put a perfect ending to conclude our tours at Porto. We definitely will come back whenever we come back to Porto.

Dining at Gruta was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The meal began with prawns sautéed with cashews, garlic, and chili. It was a perfectly balanced starter that was both aromatic and full of flavor. For the main course, I enjoyed grilled croaker served with a rich coconut milk and dendê oil sauce, accompanied by basmati rice. Mixing in the cashew nuts and toasted cassava flour added a wonderful texture and depth to each bite. To finish, the wasabi ice cream was a surprising highlight. It was unique, refreshing, and incredibly flavorful. Gruta’s Michelin recognition is clearly well deserved, and reservations are highly recommended to secure a table at this outstanding restaurant. You won't be disappointed.

We were visiting Porto for a few days and Gruta was so good we ate there twice. The food is innovative without being contrived, resulting in interesting and delicious dishes. The menu is small but perfectly formed with an enough choice for everyone. That is if you like fish as there are no meat options on the menu. There is also an excellent selection of Portuguese wines all reasonably priced. The atmosphere is relaxed and the service friendly and attentive without being in your face. If we were staying longer we’d go a third time.

All the food are fantastic! The services are very good. I like the seafood dishes especially the raw fish! Another highlight is the homemade brioche. That is really nice if you are a fan of bread!!!

Wonderful. Reservations highly recommended. This smaller but comfy establishment serves up amazing seafood dishes. The staff are very professional and accomodating. Decor is simple, clean and inviting. Our server offered up some suggestions and we opted for 2 starter plates which comforted our hunger perfectly. The clam dish and prawn plate coupled with a green salad fit our tastes perfectly. The suggested red wine paired nicely with the formentioned. Well worth the visit if you enjoy seafood.

As described by other guests, the ambiance is quite lovely. From the entrance way to the different dining areas this was all very aesthetically pleasing. I had read other reviews before making our reservation and was really looking forward to our evening here. Positives—friendly staff, beautifully plated and presented food, dishes were spaced out so we didn't feel rushed in any way and had the time to really taste and enjoy the food. Unfortunately a few things I would have appreciated was if the music was turned down it was way too loud for a fine dining establishment. We had a very hard time hearing and understanding our waitress (because of the volume of the music) We had to constantly ask her to repeat herself. It certainly didn’t help that our waitress was so so so soft spoken and spoke almost in a whisper-I felt bad for the number of times we had to say pardon me. The food was beautiful very beautiful but we both felt that it was just ok in taste. In fact I would even go as far as to say it was a bit anticlimactic. Portions are small, which we expected as this is considered a fine dining restaurant. We just felt it just didn’t hit the mark for us. Would we return? Probably not. Sorry:(

Restaurant
Restaurante Cantina 32 is a laid-back and popular spot among the trendy locals, offering two sittings to reflect the Mediterranean way of life. The restaurant features large communal tables as well as smaller spots for more intimate dining. The menu includes large terracotta sharing dishes such as roast octopus with sweet potatoes and modern twists on classic Portuguese plates like fresh pink tuna with pineapple and seafood and chorizo stew.
Excellent. Squid and portobello appetizer is excellent. The bread with banana butter is very good. Octopus is a must. We ate here 3 times. Everything we tried was great. Reasonable prices. Make a reservation as they fill up fast. They open at 6:30 and the line starts at 6:15. Reservations are at 7. The sangria is great and a lot of wine choices. Felix and John were very helpful. Make sure to save room for wonderful desserts. We liked the chocolate cake, cheesecake, and carrot cake. Cappuccino was very good. Bathrooms were very clean.

Dropped by for lunch. We were just walking around Porto soaking in the atmosphere and saw that this restaurant had a decent rating. There was a line to get in , but that was because they were just opening. We were not so hungry so ordered the Portugese stew of Squid and Shrimp. The quailty of the ingredients was fine. But the sauce was brought in a separate jug and poured over. This left the squid and shrimp tasting very bland .The menu said the dish was for two persons but we were still hungry. A little pricey for what we were served. We went down to the Mercado and had something to eat and drink there! We wanted to order dessert but decided to go somewhere else.

Excellent octopus! Very tasty. Nice presentation. Price quality for octopus also good. The othet things were a bit on the expensive side. Especially the tuna appetizer. And the salad (lettuce) which was literally a quarter lettuce with dome cheese but almost 4€. The alheir crockets on the other hand were very nice and tasty really like alhier sausage. The banana butter, olives and bread were part of the curvert (2.50 pp). They were of good quality but we were a bit dissapointed that we got the same amount of bread butter and olices with the 5 of us as other people that were with a party of 2. (The banana butter tasted really like banana and was tasty as well.) We couldnt order a big bottle of water to share (nor still nor sparkling) only small bottles. The ambience was very nice. All in all. Nice restaurant for octopus. A bit on the expensive side. Service could be a bit more generouz looking at the water and the curvert.

Every visit to Cantina 32 was an absolute delight. The food is delicious and carefully prepared, and the service is truly exceptional – attentive, kind, and professional. We returned three nights in a row because we felt so welcome, and by the second evening, the staff even greeted us by name, which was a wonderfully personal touch. A special mention goes to John, our waiter, who was always polite, attentive, and truly professional. We wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a refined and welcoming dining experience in Porto.

Great location, first and foremost. Staff were welcoming but waiter then seemed surprised - even a little disappointed - that we both went for the small francesinha rather than the large. However, it was delicious in a tremendous, slightly spicy, sauce. Wife had a large glass of green wine while I just had a delightful 0.4l of very cold beer- the ubiquitous super-bock. You couldn't beat the view or the light bite.

After arriving late from Lisbon to Porto, I found this restaurant and decided to visit after reading reviews on Google. I visited with my child and ordered grilled octopus, seafood rice, grilled shrimp, and sangria. Overall, it was a bit salty for our family's taste, perhaps because it was meant for seafood. However, it wasn't bad when paired with the accompanying garnish. The sangria was 15 euros for 500ml. It felt quite expensive, but I ordered it just to try it. Is this typical Portuguese sangria? (See photo) It was unbelievable... It was expensive, but it was worth experiencing at least once. While taste buds vary, everyone in my family agreed it was salty. Again, it's best enjoyed with garnish. Not recommended for those sensitive to salt. I also tried the seafood rice for the first time, and while it wasn't quite what I'd seen before, it was a decent experience. (If I were to visit again, I wouldn't order it.) Also, we had a table on the first floor and on the terrace. Since there were no seats on the upper level, we gave up on the view and went to the second floor. While we didn't experience any special service, we had a hard time paying. They were demanding a tip. We didn't add any, but... if we had experienced exceptional service and a unique taste, it wouldn't have been a waste. It's important to serve something from the heart, but... It was frustrating when we had to pay. They persistently asked for a tip for two or three minutes, but we never added one. We won't be back again when we visit Porto. I hope my review was helpful.

We wanted to order the barnacles but were told that its not in season. The young gentleman next to us kindly explained to us that right now the weather is dangerous for the percebeiros (professionals whose job are to harvest percebes or barnacles on the rocks). We got to chat a bit about the seafood culture in Portugal. We ordered stuffed edible crab and grilled tiger prawn. So fresh and delicious. Just before we were about to get the check, we were told that the young man actually was one of the bosses and he sent us a sweet desert! Thanks!

It really worth waiting for a table here as the food is authentic and delicious. The staff welcomed us warmly making sure we were happy with order (food didn’t take long to be served!). Very yummy tapas style food! Definitely a bit more of a gastronomic experience than some of the other restaurants on this street. The octopus with squid ink pasta was very good but my personal favourite was the shrimp - so flavorful! Service was pretty good but it definitely takes quite awhile for your food to come.

A cozy little place and friendly service. The food is ok, definitely not the best tapas around. The mushroom risotto was the best part of the meal and the portion was quite large. The shrimp tasted ok but were a bit overcooked. The pumpkin appetizer was decent. Overall, nothing special but not bad either.

Do yourself a favour and don't eat along the Quayside that's where all the tourists go. Venture up a side street and you come across this amazing restaurant. We had lunch at Jimao back in April 2018 and loved it! We made sure to stop by for dinner on this trip (Mar 2024). The service nor the food has changed- its as good or better than I remember!!! Everything we had was delicious!! Wine, tapas and desserts. Definitely recommend this place. We didn't think March would be crowded in Porto but, we were wrong. Its a small but charming place. So, make reservations to guarantee a table. We tried without one and couldn't get in but returned the next day.

Great food! One review mentioned they didn't like the shrimps, but it might be a result of bad translation in the English menu. I see they aren't shrimp, but prawns. Slightly different but closely related and have different flavors. I loved it. The codfish was amazing as was the octopus and pasta. Bread and olive oils was great quality. Try and make reservations beforehand as they fill up.

The person that owns this restaurant went out of her way to show us the very best of what this restaurant had to offer. Without a doubt, this was the best meal we had in Portugal! I’d happily return to Porto just for their seafood. The sardines were the best I’ve ever had—simple, incredibly fresh, and full of flavor. We also tried the seafood rice, which came in a huge portion packed with generous amounts of seafood. The service was friendly and quick. Highly recommend booking in advance or arriving right at opening time, as this restaurant is quiet popular!

Underwhelming!! I really, really wanted to like this place, but the food just wasn't very good. The service was good, food presentation was nice and the inside of the place was pretty. But the food was just not that good. The fish soup was salty, octopus salad didn't seem fresh. The octopus was rubbery and really had no flavor even though it was smothered in onions and olive oil. The monk fish rice tomato sauce was so bland and the rice was crunchy, the fish wasn't bad though. The sangria was very plain too ( tasted like the local grocery store bottle with some chopped fruit in it). Even the bread was just mediocre. Thankfully it wasn't terribly expensive! One other thing that isn't a huge deal; but even the type of chairs that were used for outside dining were horribly loud when trying to sit. Overall, NOT a great experience. At least the sunset was nice when I walked to Foz on the boardwalk before heading home so the evening wasn't a total loss.

Without a doubt my favorite restaurant in Matosinhos and one of my top picks in northern Portugal. I’ve tried (almost) every single dish on the menu, as I come about once a month, and each one is better than the last. Generous portions, delicious flavors, and not a single item that isn’t excellent. The ingredients are top quality, the fish is incredibly fresh and perfectly prepared. My highlights are the carapaus (horse mackerel) and the prawns, but the meat is also great. And the desserts? Every single one is amazing. The natas do céu is a treat. The staff is extremely fast, friendly, and attentive, and they seem to understand you instantly. Prices are excellent with unbeatable value for money. Keep up the great work! 🙏

The best fish and seafood I've ever had, and all for a very reasonable price. The reservation system is bit tricky for a foreigner visiting Porto for the first time. You must have your name put on the list in the notebook and then you can wait wherever. First time we only figured it out after 30 min of waiting and only because some pople who came after us started getting tables (so don't be shy, ask if there is a list).

Conga is a down-to-earth restaurant in Porto, known for its pork sandwiches, draft beers, and wine. The eatery offers a variety of gastronomic treasures, with specialties like tender pulled pork marinated in garlic and spice served in bifanas buns. The menu also features steaks accompanied by potatoes and thin dishes that leave patrons more than satisfied without emptying their wallets.

Update: I ended up coming here 4x during my 3-day trip to Porto. It was really addictive. Lovely bifanas! This was a great accidental find. We came here after having a racist experience at the Piri Piri chicken store opposite and were very heartened by the impartial service here. It turned out that Conga is actually very famous. Bifanas were absolutely delicious - salty, soft meat with a slight tinge of spice, I could have eaten two in a go. We tried different combinations - with rice and fries, but decided that the original style of having the meat with bread was the best as it soaks up the meaty greasy spicy goodness. Sangria is also fizzy and great in the heat, but slightly sweet. So good we came back twice in a day!

Authentic Portuguese food and experience. Came recommended from host and was worth the visit. Had Bacalhau and Steak as options on day I went. The Cod, rice and bean/greens dish were excellent! Quick for food and service was great, and best yet not a tourist trap with all locals. Will visit again.

We went here for a traditional bifana and we got it! The broth was so flavorful and a little spicy. Seriously delicious. We also got the veggie soup and the caldo verde - both were very bland, but hot and fresh. The atmosphere was a standard, sports place, nothing special. The water closet was a bit messy and smelled strongly of urine. Really great value, it was the most affordable meal we had while in Porto.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Iconic Porto Flavors at Their Best! Conga is a true Porto institution — the kind of place every local knows and every visitor should experience. Famous for its bifanas, this spot serves up sandwiches that are simply out of this world — tender pork simmered in a spicy, flavorful sauce that’s both addictive and unforgettable. The atmosphere is lively and full of character, with that perfect mix of tradition and energy that makes Porto so special. Service is quick, friendly, and efficient — even when it’s busy (which it often is!). Pair your bifana with an ice-cold beer or a glass of vinho verde, and you’ve got one of the best meals in the city for an unbeatable price. Conga isn’t just a restaurant — it’s a Porto experience. Simple, delicious, and absolutely essential for anyone who loves authentic Portuguese food. 🇵🇹🔥

Ostras & Coisas, a renowned seafood restaurant in Porto, is known for its diverse menu of shellfish and fish dishes. Despite some past disappointments with certain items, the restaurant remains an essential reference for seafood dining in the area. The name 'Ostras & Coisas' translates to 'oysters and things,' hinting at the house favorites. Oysters are a highlight, available in various preparations alongside a wide selection of shellfish such as crabs, barnacles, and shrimp.
We were recommended from our hotel to this place. At the beginning, I saw that their rate is 4.3, but after eating the whole meal, I think they deserve the 5 points. Oysters were good, civiche tasty, the two fishes that we took were very well done on the grill, and the best part was the desert. Have a look at the pictures.

If you want to step into the magical world of fish and seafood all in one place, this restaurant is waiting for you. Very friendly staff do all their best to give you best advices and explain everything in details. Special starter with huge glass jug of icy water was waiting for us on the table, this was surprise for us. We ate 4 different dishes and all of them were super tasty. Have no words.

This place came highly recommended and it did not disappoint! I was craving a paella type dish, and the seafood rice was what I was told to order. It's delicious and a big portion too. Do yourself a favor and order the oysters, also very fresh with a good brine flavor. The staff is very polite and professional also, I'd definitely come back.

We first ordered fish. Waiter brought the raw uncooked fish to our table show us. Then we got told the fish had been sold to another table, which was unfathomable. We had to pick another one. Eventually the fish took 1.5 hrs. Food itself tasted good. While eating, there were a few flying insects around. Not totally abnormal for seafood, but this is an expansive restaurant.

I enjoy the seafood there especially the stuffed crab! Perfect dip for roasted bread! The seafood rice is also very tasty with a lobster soup flavour and there’s really so much seafood inside, clams, shrimp, mussel, you name it!

All the food are nice and great service, but a bit pricy. Online booking is not real, I could only book a table for 4, but I am a party of 6, so I tried to book another table for 2 but it said it is full whole day. So we called the restaurant and they could change the reservation for us.

Whether you're in the mood for a light bite like their delightful cheese and smoked meat platter or craving something sweet such as their rich chocolate pie, Intrigo has you covered.
We came here on our first night as we arrived in Porto in the evening and it was only a minute from our apartment. We were welcomed by the lovely hostess and the service was excellent. The food was really nice and was served in a sharing style, which we like. The views were amazing across the river even though we sat inside the restaurant at the back!

Lovely food, book early if you want a seat on the edge of the terrace (we were there at 6:30-9:00pm). Our only complaint is that there should be a way to show the relative size of the dishes - we ordered 5 dishes, where the first 2 were small and bite-sized, the next 3 were almost all full portions for a single person! Also, Fernando did a great job looking after us (he said it was his first day, but we wouldn't be able to tell!)

Nice dinner with a beautiful view! Service was friendly and quick, and the wine was excellent. We ordered four dishes for two, but the portions were much more generous than expected. We had too much food at the end. The pumpkin dumplings were the surprise of the night, super flavorful. The risotto was a bit salty, but otherwise everything was great. Perfect spot for a dinner date. Bring your sunglasses!

I can’t believe I had never found this place earlier! I’ve been in Porto for a year now and I’m speachless- this place has the best view of any restaurant I’ve been to. The food is incredible, reasonably priced, and our server, Alen, was extremely kind and attentive. Will be back every week!

Wow, the food, the service, the views, the ambiance are all amazing. Highly recommend. Favorite was the black pork cheeks. Home made French fries are great for sharing too.

This place came highly recommended by friends who had been a few years ago but this meal did not live up to the hype. The decore was plain tables and chairs, nothing to add to the ambiance. Yes, gorgeous river views, but in cloudy, rainy, October, it didn’t amount to much. Service was curt but officiant. The food was the real let down. The portion sizes were an average sized for tapa but nothing stood out as truly delicious. However, 2,5€ a person for two small pieces of dry baguette (the “fresh bread and butter”) and 22€ for a vat of over cooked and under seasoned risotto was near criminal. There were also flies and moths buzzing around the whole time which like, why though? Bright spot was cocktails, though, those were nice.

Visitors can enjoy their meals on the outside terrace while soaking in the city's ambiance. The desserts, including Natas do Ceu and cheesecake, are mouthwatering.
The food was delicious and had very good selection of drinks. We had grilled prawns for starters and it was very delicious and the seafood rice was amazing. Very welcoming, lovely and friendly staffs. Pedro was the one who was serving us and he was very helpful when choosing your food. Would love to go back again.

We saw this place walking around and decided to try it for lunch. I had sea bass and my wife had the grilled octopus. Both were phenomenal. The desserts were also tasty. Almost e everyone in the place seemed to know the owner. Mostly locals. Kind of a no frills local hangout that is all about the food. The house green wine was a little sweet for me but it went well with the food.

Order the Seafood Rice, it's for 2 people, however, our growing 16 year old son, helped himself, after eating the grilled salmon dish, so technically, 3 people can share this dish. Y'all it was sooooooo good! The flavor! I think they let this bad boy simmer for a few hours because it was hitting on all the notes! My daughter got her vegetarian dish and Papi and I got the Sangria, which by the way, had a bit more alcohol than the previous one we'd tried...a little tipsy! LOL! Come here, eat, drink and be merry! It's all good! Make a reservation and enjoy the service from the attentive staff! 👍🏾

Very, very good food. The Bacalhau à brás was amazing. The waiter, Pedro, was a very nice guy who made sure the night was a success. The only downside is the busy road next to the restaurant.

Unfortunately, this place was not anything that we expected. We should’ve left when we still had the chance. The service was absolutely unfriendly and showed up occasionally. The octopus portion size was very small, a starter at best. The codfish was horrible. Rubbery texture, heavily salted and didn’t taste very fresh. This place felt more like a well placed tourist trap than an authentic Portuguese seafood place. We will most definitely never see that place again.

Taberna do Largo, opened in 2013 near Ribeira at Largo Sao Domingos, aims to showcase the diverse flavors of Portugal by collaborating with small-scale producers from different regions. The restaurant offers a tapas-style dinner featuring traditional dishes such as olives, alheira sausage, Portuguese sliders with salami and cheese, baked cheese with honey, octopus salad, and sautéed mushrooms.
We were off season ( Feb) and well after lunch so had no issue getting a table. I suspect this changes when it's peak season so keep this in mind. A lot of well rated restaurants in Porto did seem to require a booking so if you have a specific cuisine and place in mind, book it! We wanted to try some tapas as we planned to have dinner a little later. My other half had the Portuguese sausage as well as olives and the bread basket , though it technically comes in a paper bag. I had the tomato , cured ham and basil sandwich and we shared an almond tart. Everything was delicious and hit the spot. Would definitely recommend a visit

Lovely cosy causal dining, prices reasonable considering the location. It's small with two tables outside. The cod dish was a bit dry but the mushrooms were delightful. Lots wine and pretty to choose from.

More of a drinks and snack kind of a place, the octopus salad was nice, quite small portion for the price though. The grilled chorizo was burnt and bitter and a bit too salty for me. Overall it was okay, nothing special!

We were lucky enough to grab the last empty table outside. Service was friendly and super fast. The Taberna is at the perfect distance to where people do live music; its just at the right volume. The food was very tasty, possibly the best we had in Porto.

We really enjoyed our dinner here. We arrived to Porto a bit late in the evening, so we went for dinner 10 pm and they still served us delicious food! We had the octopus salad, canned sardines, And Portuguese sausage. We like all of them. If you haven’t tried portuguese sausage before: it’s a little softer than other sausages and has a strong smoked taste. We really liked it but can be a strong taste for some. The atmosphere was also nice. Even though we arrived later, we had a great service. All in all recommended!

Food was not fancy but delicious. We had Becalhau (not the dumplings), Rojoes and Pork shank sandwich. Becalhau was super good, must try if you like fish. Rojoes was a hearty, home dish but not too amazing. The sandwich was in decent portion, with flavourful, meaty pulled pork shank. For drinks we had sangria in port wine and somersby. The Sangria was quite sweet but its expected, quite refreshing indeed, I do recommend. Our waiter and waitress (Gustav and Alexandra) were very friendly and responsive. Had a great night here.

This was our first meal in Porto and what a great way to start! We had the steak special and the rojões along with sangria and beer and then the cheesecake ice cream for dessert. The sandwiches were delicious. The meat was so tender. Chips went with it perfectly. The ice cream was yummy. Prices are very reasonable too. Lots of tables available. It was full even at 2:30-3pm. Located behind Praca da Riberia, Escondidinho do Barredo is a small Portuguese restaurant that specializes in fried cod fritters, octopus, and cuttlefish. The atmosphere is warm and cozy with wooden benches and tables, traditional Portuguese tiled walls, and friendly staff. The food is delicious with prices that can't be beat. Great place to have little snacks and a few beers after a big day of touring around town. Run by two grandmas, other than the normal fare- sardines, cod, octopus … we were able to try out caul, gizzards, intestines. The prices are great. There’s a wrong picture on google maps that’s really classy. It’s a mistake because this place is definitely hole in the wall. An old time treasure in the midst of a super glitzy part of town.

Very authentic, run by two local ladies and has only 6 tables. Worth the wait, very tasty and fresh. I recommend the octopus salad (verde) and sardines. As a finish off i got the bifana sandwich. Dont miss this gem!
Isil E — Google review
Quite a fine mood set in the restaurant as I liked the stone wall, but the food was as typical as any other in the area. I went to the restaurant and stood by the door for almost a minute. There was a staff member staying by the archway playing with his phone the whole time, I wasn't sure if he was a staff member here, so I didn't call out to him. Even other clients stared at me and then him several times during my wait. I got bored of seafood after staying in Portugal for a week, and none of the main courses interested me, so i ordered a couple of appetizers for the meal instead. One surprise was that I was able to locate the coin from my country right next to where I picked to sit.

Highly recommended!!! Homemade dishes from the owners and everything was superb!!! 💯 We had trouble looking for the place at first as they open the doors just right before serving but the wait was super worth it! I suggest coming before opening hours, and wait. There are only few table and you might risk to wait for a long time.

So this very old lady was just sitting in the back, next to the tower of cases of drinks, not eating, just watching. I thought it was weird; turns out she was the owner. Well, tells you how long this place has probably been around. Although it was mostly full of tourists, we were all there to eat some authentic Portuguese food. Everything was very good, I’m guessing they were the old lady’s recipes. Simple, fresh, tasty.

Francesinha Café is a popular spot known for its delicious francesinha with a unique sauce that combines spiciness, sourness from tomato, and rich flavors possibly from red wine. The layers of bread, ham, and meat are perfectly executed. The cheese is melted to perfection and the beef is of high quality. The friendly staff provides efficient service in this cozy establishment. While the price may be slightly higher than average, the overall experience makes it worth it.
After many years and even more restaurants, I can confidently say that this is the best francesinha I ever tried. First place undisputed! The most tender beef, the sauce with the right level of spiciness (enough to be noticed but not too much that it overwhelms the remaining flavours), and crispy and homemade fries. What else can one ask? To top it off, the staff was super friendly with us.

I’ve been travelling through Spain and Portugal on my motorcycle for the past 5 weeks and this restaurant has served the best meal so far on my journey. Appetiser of garlic bread was delicious and then the main course of the most delicious Francesinha and golden fries (outstandingly good) and then finished off with a delicious salted caramel cheesecake and excellent coffee. The service was also excellent. Make sure to dine here if you’re in Porto - you won’t regret it👌🏽

The best franceshinha I have ever tasted! The people who work there are very nice, very polite. And the food is delicious. Every time I go to Porto I ask my boyfriend to take me there. It's a small place but it's always full. So don't forget to make a reservation before you go.
Nihan A — Google review
I discovered Francesinha Café through some buzz on social media, intrigued by their unique spin on Porto’s iconic dish. The café offers its own distinct version of the Francesinha, yet stays remarkably faithful to the dish’s essence. The flavors were perfectly balanced, and the quality of the meat selection stood out immediately. Not only did the food arrive quickly, but it was also surprisingly light compared to other francesinhas in town, leaving me comfortably satisfied rather than overly full or bloated. Francesinha Café is definitely worth the visit-an excellent choice for anyone looking to experience a fresh yet authentic take on this classic Porto staple.
Francisco S — Google review
Yes, when you visit Porto, you have to have some of the namesake fortified wine. But you'll really be missing out if you don't try a Francesinha. It's a local specialty sandwich, typically with ham, sausage, some kind of beef, melted cheese, and a fried egg, served in a bowl of spicy tomato sauce. If that sounds like a lot, it most certainly is. Of course, a bowl of fries to dip in the sauce is recommended as well. The neighborhood near the Marques metro station is a good one to stay in, with a pleasant downhill walk to the main sights, and a direct subway ride back. Francesinha Cafe cements this as a great place to visit. The physical space was a couple of notches nicer than I expected a sandwich joint to be - it turned out to be a very nice little restaurant with a limited menu. We weren't sure if we should split a sandwich and fries between two people - it turned out that a whole sandwich each, and splitting an order of fries worked out well for us. Porto is a terrific place to visit, and the Francesinha is the icing on the cake.
John K — Google review
This is my new favorite food, this Francesinha is ridiculously good. The sausage steak and ham are perfectly done, the melted cheese is perfectly stretchy and flavorful, they were so kind and welcomed us for our anniversary day lunch with smiles and loving words. They are so fantastic here, it's with the wait, make a reservation, chat with them ahead of time. Get yourself here for their food, and leave smiling for their friendliness and generosity.

TBH this dinner was so good NO CAP! The service was jacked. They brought the food out RQ. The food was fire and the desserts were gas. The wine pairings were incredible and we got to meet the sous chef. Would definitely cop some food from here again. we basically took a trip through Portugal with our mouths.

Worst dining experience I have ever had. Presentation is good but that's where it stops, the taste of the food is horrible. I've been to many Michelin star restaurants around the world. This is the most expensive dinner at over $800 for 2 people and the worst food sadly. We're so disappointed. I did the wine paring and even the wines were disappointing especially for the price, which it tough to accomplish because there are so many incredible wines in Portugal. The Cuddle fish was chewy and long, it got stuck in our throats, the lobster was under cooked, hard to cut and chewy and the veal was overcooked and tough to cut. I mentioned this to the waiter, he mentioned it to the chef, the chef even came out and I said the above and he said thank you and would talk to the team and nothing else happened. I also mentioned this to the front desk upon checkout as they asked and they said they would inform "someone" and again nothing happened. Not that I was expected anything. Just lack of caring to go with the poor quality food. Again if you want a 14 course of good looking plating, this is for you but if you want to enjoy the taste, don't go here! The service team was exceptional though, it's not their fault I didn't enjoy the food.

This was one of my favourite dining experience in a Michelin Star restaurant! The food was exquisite, the wine pairing by Carlota was excellent & well studied :) The whole journey orchestrated by Edouardo & his team was a wonderful voyage through Portugal ❤️ The deserts didn’t disappoint & taste amazing, much care & thought had been put into it & it shows. Thank you for this amazing experience & special thanks to the chef Julien Montbabut.

Enjoyed our tasting menu here at Le Monument during our visit in Porto. What standout for us was their super professional services and staff. Very accommodating and friendly. They took the time to explain the dishes and the attention to details. Tasty and delicious from the chefs including the desserts and pastry. We would have enjoyed more if the lighting was brighter so that we can see well of their wonderful dishes (just a personal preference) We chose the shorter menu around $200 per person and were really fulled at the end while we enjoyed the closing tea. Highly recommended!

I have been to many Michelin star restaurants, but this one rises above all others. My fiancé and I got the big journey with wine pairing, and it was worth every euro. I have not had a culinary journey like this before, but the food was impeccable. The staff were so kind, knowledgeable, and made us feel like home. Eduardo toured as through so many amazing flavors of Portugal and made it such a special experience. 10/10 would recommend for anyone looking for a one of a kind dining experience.
Braden H — Google review
Disappointing ending to an otherwise pleasant evening We had dinner at Le Monument tonight, and overall the experience started off well — the restaurant has a beautiful atmosphere, and the staff were polite. The food was decent, though not particularly memorable compared to other Michelin restaurants we recently tried in San Sebastián in last stop. Still, since it was our last night in Porto, we were happy and ready to enjoy a relaxed evening. However, the experience ended on a disappointing note when we received the bill. Here’s what happened: We had booked the Big Journey tasting menu (€180 per person). Shortly after being seated, a waitress came and asked whether we would like champagne or Porto wine — without showing us any wine list, or asking if we would like to see one. Naturally, we assumed this was a complimentary aperitif offered as part of the dining experience, as many fine-dining restaurants do. To our surprise, the final bill included two aperitif glasses for €50 in total(around maybe 150ml each). When I questioned this, explaining that we were never informed these drinks would be charged separately, the waiter Eduardo simply smiled and said “No”, offering no further explanation and let us pay the bill. Suddenly felt so uncomfortable. It’s not about the price, we understand this is an upscale restaurant, but about transparency and respect to customers. At a Michelin-starred establishment, guests should be clearly informed of any additional charges and always be given the choice to see a wine list before being served something that will appear on the bill. This small moment changed the tone of what could have been a wonderful last night in Porto. I truly hope the restaurant will take this feedback seriously and improve communication with guests in the future.

FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE. No spoilers, but loved the start. The staff became friends in an instant. Eduardo was *chefs kiss*. The food was a wonderful experience, so dynamic and well balanced. We did the 10-course paired with wine…and the wine I CANT! WOW, those pairings just rocketed the dishes into outer space. This place is such an excellent reflection of Portugal in 10+ bites. I’d love to come again in a different season after a menu change. Would highly recommend. XOXO

The Michelin guide rarely disappoints but unfortunately Le Monument was one of those times. The concept sounded promising but the execution was poor. The food was beautifully presented but it just didn’t taste very good—definitely did not compare with the other Michelin star (or Bib Gourmand) restaurants we ate at in Portugal. It’s confusing to me that it even has a star in the first place. The flavor combinations often didn’t work and seemed like the chef was trying too hard to be avant garde. We got the 14 course tasting menu and the pacing of the courses was weirdly slow. We were at the restaurant for over 4 hours, and after waiting over 30 minutes for the last course (an infusion prepared table side—not sure why it took 30 minutes for them to bring some boiling water and tea to our table) we were basically falling asleep in our chairs. There are so many better restaurants in Porto, save your money and time and skip Le Monument.

Portuguese restaurant
A Capoeira is a popular restaurant in Porto, known for its traditional Portuguese dishes and attentive service. Located off the beaten track, it's a favorite among locals. The menu features classic offerings such as grilled cod, squid, octopus fillets with rice, and beef tenderloin. One of their specialties is the cod à la bras and octopus rice, which are highly recommended. The portions are generous and perfect for sharing with friends.
Absolutely amazing. Food is simple and simply great. Atmosphere is very authentic and the staff and service just perfect. If you’re looking for a local, non-touristic restaurant where to eat fish, this is the place!
Francesca P — Google review
Thousands of stars for the service. Hands down, the best hospitality I’ve ever experienced. The grilled sea bass with bean rice was bursting with flavor, perfectly paired with a glass of Douro River white house wine. The staff even showed me how to enjoy the fish properly, such a thoughtful touch. And the pão de ló? That cake was the kick. Unforgettable.

Great place, with real hospitality, one of the best services I ever experienced 💛 The food is also nice, we ate here 2 times during our one week stay in Porto. Fresh fruit as a dessert and chocolate mousse are a must if you like sweets 😊 Thanks to the staff for the welcoming athmosphere, even if we were just tourists, we felt like local, old friends 💛
Noémi B — Google review
Incredibly lucky to have found this gem. We planned a walk from Porto to the lighthouse at Foz do Douro. We didn't know to call ahead for reservations, but we arrived when they opened and they seated us anyway. Exceptionally warm people. Clearly a key part of that community and we felt honored to be included as the only out of towners. The food was wonderful. The highlight of our day.

I would give this place 0 reviews only because of the experience with one of the server. Me and my husband travelled all the way because we heard about this place from a friend. We reached 10 minutes after the place opened and when we reached we saw all the tables had reserved signs .. understandable but when we asked the server he said he will have a table for us in half an hour , he neither wrote our name just kind of brushed us off but we trusted him and decided to wait for half an hour … when we can back after half an hour … he said half an hour more he still did not take our name… again to brush us off.. for us it would have been totally fine if he said it is not possible today … but the sheer ignorance is something we did not understand …

Having walked all day, we were famished, tired, and fancied something a bit traditional. This little restaurant is set back from the main tourist thoroughfare but given its solid reviews, we decided to give it a try. It was just opening, so we went in, to find tables already occupied. We hadn’t booked, but they gave us a table. The restaurant is very traditional, and my guess, based on the decor, is that it has been around for a long time. Service is VERY efficient, and friendly! We had a salad and Portuguese sausage for starters. Both decent. Our mains were both fish (given where we were!). Again, both decent. We had an Alvarinho as the wine list is very limited. It too was decent. The restaurant is not going to set the world alight in culinary terms, but the food is traditional, solid, good value and enjoyable.
P D — Google review
Very authentic and local food. I do not recommend sausage as an appetizer. Cut into rounds and grilled so that it was burnt and tasted like coal. Otherwise, fast service, wonderful environment, good prices.
Jiří B — Google review
Capoeira is one of the oldest restaurants in Porto. Family atmosphere, house made food and a reasonable wine lsit. Very popular for the tourists but most important for locals! Excellent sign of quality. PS: please book a table!

Mito is a centrally located restaurant in Porto with a cozy atmosphere and a neighborhood vibe. It offers a fabulous lunch menu at an affordable price, featuring dishes like juicy burgers, fish tacos, and pork belly. The restaurant stands out for its sophisticated vegetarian dishes and modest approach. The menu includes options like beetroot, cured duck, beef fried balls, octopus with vegetable tempura, beef tartare with puff toastadas, and tender steak with amazing fries.
Dinner at Mito was an amazing experience. The staff was super welcoming, professional but friendly. The atmosphere is cozy and nice. The food was great, we shared three starters and one main dish. Special mention to the monkfish with rice and shrimps. Unfortunately there was no room left for desserts so we hope to come back and try them. Also, on top or the food being great, we can confirm cocktails are good too! we had a revisited Margarita and was great. Very much recommended!

Wow. Simply amazing. Each and every dish I tried here (including the dessert) was delicious. Most of the dishes were very light but packed with flavors. The tuna dish was very refreshing and sweet and salty. The bacon doughnut was also really good- so much so that I got 2 of these. Service was a bit slow once the restaurant got busy but still out was not a deal breaker. Very reasonably priced. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Ayush K — Google review
The service was efficient and accommodating, and knowledgeable in the food they serve. Our server gave very good suggestions. The black pork steak was more than enough to share and the sidings were right size. The beef tartare was delicious, as well as the been croquettes. For dessert , the french toast was wonderful! Worth recommending to visitors of Porto.

An absolute must-visit! I had an incredible experience at Mito in Porto. The food was truly outstanding – every dish was even better than the last, full of flavor and beautifully prepared. One highlight was the carrot in misosuke, which was surprisingly delicious and absolutely worth trying. But what really made the evening special was the service. I’ve honestly never had such friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable staff. Their recommendations for food and wine were spot on, and they even gave us amazing tips for cocktail bars in the city. A truly memorable dining experience – I’ll definitely be coming back!

We had a lovely meal here on our first night in Porto. Got a mix of starters and mains to share between 4. We also started with a cocktail and shared a bottle of wine. Overall food was very good. Beef croquettes were great. Side salad of tomatoes was excellent. Pork chop was pretty good but onion rings that came as a side were raw and doughy. Cauliflower tart was ice cold and didn’t really taste of cauliflower. It was a lovely meal but we all left questioning the value for money here.
Peterconstant — Google review
The atmosphere is very nice. It is on the more casual side of fine dining which I found very welcoming. The food was tasty and well executed. The only gripes I would have are tiny nitpicks that I have to look for. Overall a very nice experience, definitely recommend for visitors and locals alike

Delicious! We will be back. They welcomed us with a drink because we were celebrating our anniversary- very thoughtful and nice touch. Impeccable service (polite, patient, attentive, great recommendations). We had the beef croquettes, the beignet, the tartare (!!!), the carrot (A MUSTTTT), the pork (so good!) with the tomato salad. We also had the gnocchi.

Delicious food and great, warm service! The tuna with watermelon was particularly amazing! 🐟🍉 Not a great selection if you're vegetarian, but plenty to eat if you're pescatarian.

Casa Expresso is a charming, budget-friendly eatery with a simple and ever-changing menu displayed on a board. The atmosphere feels like enjoying homemade meals at your mom's place. The staff is accommodating, even if you don't speak Portuguese. The food is described as generous, home-cooked, and of high quality without any frills. It's popular among locals for its authentic Portuguese dishes at affordable prices.
The best meal we had in Portugal. If you know you know good food, this restaurant is not to be missed. The environment is rustic and lively and the service is prompt with great recommendations from the staff. We had the pork roll, soup with meat and blood (surprisingly amazing) and the homemade wafer cake for desert (which I wouldn’t normally go for but was recommended and incredible). We’ll be coming back again tomorrow.

This! Still my favourite eat in all of Portugal. This humble tavern serves a range of traditional Portuguese fare but the true star of the show is the slow cooked Rojoes. I've been here multiple times now and it's the place I look forward to visiting most when I'm in Porto. Expect a long wait for a table if you're coming for dinner especially if you're in a big group. The best time to come is at the end of lunch service. If I'm not just grabbing one of the face-melting Sandos I'm ordering a full portion of the stewed pork, a side of patas fritas and a couple of beautiful fried eggs. All is accompanied by fresh crusty bread and a banging home made hot sauce. There are multiple dining areas, one at the bar, one in front of the kitchen and main room. The atmosphere is as local as it gets so expect to wait your turn. Hopefully they don't stay closed for long!

The best sandwich we had in Portugal! This little hidden gem is more of a local coffee shop where people stop by for a quick bite. If you’re after a unique experience, this is the place to be! The meat was tender, juicy, and flavorful, served on fresh bread—everything you could want in a sandwich!
Shabrina H — Google review
Food was great and so were the workers, Just too nice and kind. I higly reccomend the codfish, everything was fresh and the portions were huge with a very Little price. I would love to go back
Terella — Google review
Wow, what a bifana! Arrived early (around 9:30) and they only had bifana on the menu. Which is not an issue because it's the best bifana I've had in Portugal. The place is kinda anonymous and there's not really a sign outside. It's the one with red doors and white ceiling. They accept card.
Fredrik G — Google review
The restaurant was recommened by the locals and it was worth it! The pork in bun (the most famous dish from casa expresso) with chesse is something mandatory to try in Porto. The place is simple but with local vibe.
Gastro P — Google review
Authentic place recommended by serveral youtubers. It was well worth it ! The pork just melts in your mouth and the marinade that the meat is cooked in is so flavourfull ! This place is a must visit ! (And it was very affordable at 3,50€)

Now this is TRUE Portuguese food!!!! Incredible food and service, of course there is a huge line to eat here usually but it’s totally worth it! Probably the best food for this price in Porto. Highly recommended.
