Campground
Two Medicine Campground is a picturesque camping site located in Glacier National Park. It offers around 100 sites, including 10 for RVs, along with amenities such as restrooms and a store. The campground is situated amidst the breathtaking wilderness of the park, providing access to stunning natural features like evergreen forests, glacier lakes, and snowcapped peaks. Visitors can embark on a scenic 50-mile drive that winds through the national parkland, offering panoramic views and opportunities for wildlife sightings.
Absolutely stunning views! Perfect spot to dip your toes into the lake. We went on opening weekend and although it was crowded we still really enjoyed our campground and hanging out on the lake. Bonus gift shop with small coffee shop/breakfast options.

Nice campground and base for a couple days of exploring and hiking in eastern Glacier National Park. Clean bathrooms. Some of the campsites can be a little tight so pay attention to descriptions when booking. Good hiking right out of campsites. Short hike up to store/cafe on lakeshore. Options for boat tours.
The Y — Google review
Fantastic campground! Everything in Glacier is beautiful and wonderful. Two Medicine has its own charm as it's less busy and a little more laid back than other campgrounds like Many Glacier. Sheep with their babies come down into the campground from the mountain to eat daily, they walk right by you very comfortably.
Jonathan J — Google review
Beautiful campground in a great location of the park. Just got back from a Montana Wyoming trip. Stayed 2 nights at glacier, first at fish creek and second at two medicine. Two medicine was by far our favourite site. There’s a pretty lake right beside the campground with clean swimming water and a great view. We preferred staying on east side of the park because driving on going to the sun road from east to west is prettier. Sites don’t have individual bear lockers. There are communal bear lockers around the campground. We stored food in our car for this reason.
Will M — Google review
Not big rig friendly and there is a low bridge getting to road that reads 12.8 FYI for some RVers. This is the most beautiful place if youre lucky to spend a day or two here to go hiking the many trails around these Two Medicine Lakes. You will enjoy the views all around. General store near boat ramp has some ready made food items and souvenirs etc. The boat trip takes you to other side of lake and lets you out for a guided hike short to two falls.
Jojo G — Google review
This is one of the best campground we’ve been to. It is serene, peaceful and so close to nature and wildlife. We truly enjoyed our stay here and would love to come back again!
Su P — Google review
Beautiful spot! Great place to fish and paddle. We caught a ranger talk on apex predators, and while it was certainly child-focused, we learned quite a bit! Great trailheads nearby. The bathrooms were in pretty good shape too.

Absolutely amazing!!! Located next to the lake with lots of parking areas and camping. We used reservation.com to secure our spot. Highly recommended due to season conditions

Campground
Many Glacier Campground is a well-liked 13-site camping spot that offers amenities such as potable water and showers. It is situated within the vast wilderness of a 1-million-acre national park, offering stunning views of evergreen forests, glacier lakes, and snowcapped peaks along a 50-mile drive. The drive leads to Logan Pass, where visitors can marvel at the breathtaking scenery of the Continental Divide. This area is known for its abundant wildlife, including grizzly bears.
I almost gave this 4 stars, but I couldn’t bring myself to do it. The only critique is how crowded and close quarters the campground is, but other than that, this place is perfect. In some ways, it’s TOO nice haha. The bathrooms were pristine and there was fresh water, both of which we didn’t expect. We don’t need much after a long day of hiking, so to come back to a beautiful site is all we need. It’s right by various trail heads which made exploring a breeze. We saw 4 moose right next to the campsite and we saw goats every night on the hill.
Connor M — Google review
The temporary campground is behind of the parking lot, we spent few hours in the hotel lobby, gift shop, enjoy the sunset, even though it’s super cloudy!
Tianyi Z — Google review
This is a huge campground ⛺️. From what I’ve seen it’s quite popular, but that doesn’t interfere with your experience as the space is huge and there are a lot of trees, so it feels quiet. The lakes around it provide you for a nice wildlife sporting experience. Lots of trails around would keep you busy for days. I recommend this campground. P.S. no showers, but the toilets are clean and look brand new (women’s).
K C — Google review
My heart is bursting with joy as I reflect on the epic adventure I recently experienced in Glacier National Park and our stay at Many Glacier Campground. We hiked to Iceberg Lake, paddle boarded all over the local lakes and creeks. We had coffee with moose, celebrated happy hour watching grizzlies (from a safe distance) and a couple of black bears made an appearance. Pretty epic! Practice bear safety and put food away and always carry bear spray.
Heather C — Google review
I camped at many glacier campground in Glacier N.P. for 5 nights. It was great that many hiking trails are available. But to get to West Side of N.P., it takes 50mins+ drive. At the nearest lake from this C.G., deer or mooses are visiting almost every day, so you may want to stop by to quietly watch.
Tomoko N — Google review
Heaven on earth !!! Campground is clean and located at just about perfect spot, host was very friendly and suggested few motorcycle riding routes to me along with hiking suggestions. I was little late and probably made a little noises while setting up my tent but neighbors were polite except 1 person ( they follow me 😃 ) Walking distance to restaurant and hiking trails made it ideal setup for my trip on motorcycle, i wish i could stay few more days. Please remember currently this campground is online only.
Hardik P — Google review
Wow, hiking to a Glacier. Shop, Restaurant, wifi where Laundry is, great stuff. Has a garbage dumpster problem. There are 6 stinking dumpster,s inside the campground attracting bears. 3 dumpsters outside campground is enough.
Harold B — Google review
One of our favorite campgrounds. Just minutes away form so many beautiful hikes, with no shortage of wildlife. We had access to showers and laundry facilities, and a restaurant, and gift shop with fresh coffee within walking distance. We will be back.

Apgar Campground is the largest and most popular camping spot in Glacier National Park, conveniently located along Going-to-the-Sun Road near the west entrance. It offers tent and RV sites on a first-come, first-served basis with amenities like running water and easy access to gift shops, stores, and restaurants. Situated close to Lake McDonald, it's a great base for exploring the park's attractions.
Love the campground. Stay here every year when we come with family. The campground hosts are always great. The bathrooms and showers are awesome and usually pretty clean. There can be a wait for the showers but not to bad. Easy access to the lake, short walk into apgar village to get food, ice cream, or shop.
Kiaha P — Google review
Nice campground with fire rings. Water available about every 6 sites. Shared bear boxes about every 12 sites. Only a few showers available in the entire campground. Dish wash station in bathroom buildings. Tent pads are gravel and nearly impossible to stake tents. Large RVs are going to struggle in these sites and traveling through the campground. Read site and campground notes carefully before booking to ensure your site can accommodate your tent or RV size.
Shilo K — Google review
This is one of our favorite national parks. The campgrounds are walking distance to trails, small shopping area, and lake. At night the Park rangers have great presentations in the amphitheather. Plus the price is reasonable. Only complaint are the bathrooms. They are falling apart. Looks like they were built in the 1970s. Most of the fixtures were not working. Since there is no power in the campsites, it would be nice to have power near the bathrooms so I could heat up water in the morning.
Greg K — Google review
This is a great campground and a great area! We stayed for one night in B066 on our Glacier and Icefields Parkway camper van vacation. The spot was very pretty with a wooded surrounding area and close to the lake. The only issue we had was being there during the government shutdown so it was a bit of a free for all with people coming in with no reservations and trying to take spots that were reserved. There was a couple vehicles in our spot when we arrived and we had to wait for them to return to get them to move. Not at all the parks fault though and no harm because we found a neat gift shop and Eddie’ Cafe, which was great food and service! I’d absolutely stay here again!
Kimberly K — Google review
Some good... Lake McDonald is beautiful and the village is pretty neat. We rented paddle boards and got ice cream. The bad. Camp staff & park rangers are not awesome. We got fined for leaving items out that we've camped with in bear country several times before while watching the camp site across the street leave their cooler open all night. This campground is LOUD! Quiet hours are a joke. I was lucky to get 5 hours of sleep. There are showers. Three of them. And you will stand in line for at least 30 minutes to use them. While we were there the bathrooms were also frequently clogged. Least relaxing campground I have ever stayed in.
Benjamin J — Google review
I want to start by saying I blame this review on the sad state of our national park funding right now, not the wonderful staff doing their best at this campground. Bathrooms were very dirty, smelled horrible, and had no soap and often no toilet paper. One of the showers didn’t work well. Keep in mind there are 3 showers for all loops of this campground, so it’s a big hit to have one not be in great service. I loved our time in Glacier Park but the rangers and staff here need more resources and assistance. It’s sad to see
Dan R — Google review
Nice campground and I really liked that there was an rv dump there and a place to fill up with water. I didn't like that you still had to get a pass for the Going To The Sun Road. Had I known that I would have stayed at a place with full RV hookups. For me it was also not convenient that we couldn't use a generator to cool the camper down at night. All in all it was good though.
James G — Google review
Great campsite, path to the village, close to Lake McDonald, bikes, skateboards and scooters friendly, my kids favorite campsite on our trip. We had group site 10 I think, no one around and quiet, if you get to close to the road you get a lot of traffic noise from people going to Road to the Sun. Avalanche lake hike was wonderful. Showers are fine, grungy, but fine. Bring a bucket or something to put your clean clothes and towel on and be prepared for a walk or drive if your not close. I took one shower and then opted to rinse off the other days in the lake. Cell reception mobile wasn't great.

Campground
Nestled about 2 miles from Apgar Village, Fish Creek Campground offers stunning lake views in Loops C and D, along with shower facilities in Loop A. While it may be a bit snug for travel trailers, the campground accommodates rigs up to 35 feet long and provides a dump station for RVers. Additionally, it features wheelchair-accessible sites and a designated generator-free loop for tent campers.
We stayed on the B loop and found it was a perfect fit for our Glacier trip. We had easy access to bathrooms, water, flat ground, and appreciated the ranger-led hike and evening programs offered. Cell connection was spotty but definitely possible at times. We used a 2 person tent while many in the loops were in RVs, but overall the immediate area was quiet. People seemed responsible with trash to mitigate bear incursions and the provided food lockers helped as well.
Brady Z — Google review
Great campground in Glacier National Park. Quiet and away from crowds. Sites are close together but still offer a little privacy. Bear boxes are shared between 6-8 camp sites & when I arrived, the one near me was full. Every site should have their own since there are active bears in this campground. Showers only available in loop A & there's no parking there. I camped in loop C and we only had outhouse toilets due to restrooms being closed. I probably won't go back to this campground. The Fish Creek day use area is nice for lake access & clean restroom.
Christiane W — Google review
This is an older campground shaded by tall cedars. Beautiful … but tight for RVs. The individual campsites are large, but driveways are narrow and short. These sites are ideal for families with two tents and two cars. These dump station does not have water to rinse the tanks. And the drinking water has a high level of manganese.
Jack R — Google review
This campsite is in West Glacier. To get to Sun Road, you need to either go through it before 7 AM or after 3 PM. The campgrounds were clean. Loop A has showers but only 2 of the 4 were functioning. These showers were for all of Fish Creek campers. The bathrooms would often run out of hand soap and it took about 2 days before more soap was added.
Ha N — Google review
Campground is in Glacier National Park - so you need a park pass for access and you need reservations (early - fills up fast). Campground was ok - campsites were well set up. However, the C loop restrooms were out of order (porta-potties available) and showers were only on the A loop (first come first served). Some late evening arrivals were a bit noisy, but overall, the camping was good. Ranger programs were all very good, available each evening.
Gwenn R — Google review
We loved everything about this campground! The peacefulness, the shade, and the proximity to Lake McDonald. Only issue is could think of, would be to put parking spots near the showers or build more showers, maybe at the amphitheater bathrooms since there's already parking there.
Joshua T — Google review
Well-located campground with flush toilets in each loop. The campsites are well maintained and have a campfire setup we didn't use. Because the campground is in a dense wooded area, each campsite has it's own space a little into the trees and feels private. Voices do carry though from inconsiderate campers if they are being noisy and talking loudly at night. There are several bear boxes to store food within proximity of every few canpsites. Each campsite has a bench and table as well. Unfortunately, the toilets in our loop (Loop C) were down and out of service the 3 nights we were there during the Labor Day weekend, so we had to use the toilets in Loop B, which were not too far from our campsite. Porta-potties were provided but we didn't check them out as the flush toilets were close enough. The only showers are in Loop A and a good walk from other loops (no parking allowed at the showers).
Naveen V — Google review
Nice campground. Normally good facilities, but bathrooms near our area were closed. Bummer. Site are tight together. Vehicle size limits are legit.

Nestled amidst towering peaks and offering breathtaking views of a gorgeous lake, Bowman Lake Campground is an ideal destination for nature enthusiasts seeking tranquility. The remote location provides a peaceful escape, with amenities including potable water, pit toilets, and a day-use picnic area. Whether you're planning a serene camping trip or considering it as the backdrop for your special day, this campground offers an idyllic setting.
There is zero chance I'd take my RV to this campground, but it is an absolutely delightful place to visit and tent camp. I highly recommend making the trek. The road had more traffic than expected for a week day in September, but make an adventure of it.
Camp C — Google review
What a great place to go visit and camp. Plenty of large campsites, complete with picnic tables and a fire ring. There are primitive restrooms and NO showers. There are a couple of trails that go along the lake and lots of lake front viewing area. It is off the beaten path, and there are ZERO cell phones services at the lake, be aware of this.
Tony R — Google review
Absolutely beautiful campground! I went up for the evening to check out the lake for sunset. As you can tell in the photos, the smoke from the fires was pretty intense but it was still absolutely gorgeous. Parking was easy and plentiful. The lake was extremely peaceful. I wish I had a paddleboard to be able to go out onto the water to get the full experience. Note that the single road up to the campsite is narrow, dirt, and windy as hell. If you're from south florida, be ready for a bit of a challenge if you're a nervous driver. If you're from mountainess areas, you'll be fine. Be sure to start your navigation PRIOR to losing service or download offline maps as the road from the park in is a little strange since it cuts through some private residential areas if you enter from the west gate of the park first. 14/10 recommend at least stopping by lake Bowman.
Ryan D — Google review
The views here are top tier! Very highly recommended even if you spend 5 minutes soaking up the view after a short walk from the parking lot. There is one disabled/handicapped parking spot near the lake so everyone can see the view. I did not experience any bugs/mosquitoes except for seeing a few tiny houseflies and an occasional butterfly. You won’t be disappointed.
Tim H — Google review
Great place in Glacier NP to camp and spend time! The lake is super nice and perfect for paddling or swimming. Campground is well maintained and a bit out of the way so it's less busy than the main Glacier campgrounds. There were still a few spots open on a Saturday night in mid July. The road to get there is somewhat bumpy but pretty good compared to most forest service roads.
Tim W — Google review
Beautiful. One of my new favorites in glacier. Rough road to get there, 6 miles of bumps, dust, tight tree lines, switchbacks, hills, and potholes. Wish I would have brought a kayake or something because this lake is just gorgeous. Consult the visitors center before choosing a hike because oh my God we made a mistake by taking a "short" 6 mile hike that was extremely strenuous. Pit toulets available. Water pumps throughout. 2 tents per campsite. Ranger station very close and were present during waking hours. Bring your own firewood as gathering is not permitted here.
Katie F — Google review
This was the most amazing, beautiful and tranquil places I've ever been to in my life. My trip there in 2014 is a core memory I'll never forget with my dad. He passed away this year but me and him made the drive from Kalispell to Bowman Lake one day while I was in town from Louisana. We camped under the stars for one night with a couple of lean-to tents. It is absolutely worth the trip. Not to mention the pastries from the Polbridge General Store before the long drive to the campground.
Roger C — Google review
Such a beautiful scenic campground. Wonderful trails nearby, crystal clear lake (awesome for kayaking), wildlife everywhere, good fishing, etc. It's one of the most remote campgrounds in Glacier that requires a 1hr drive on an unpaved bumpy dirt road. Mosquitoes/bugs are dense in the area, so insect repellent is a MUST. This place is spectacular if you can handle the remoteness, which isn't that bad especially considering that my girlfriend and I took our 10-month-old son with us and we did just fine. Definitely will be returning here in the future, we took a risk with this campground and it paid off. I recommend it to anyone contemplating which campground to go to. This one is amazing.

Rising Sun Campground, situated just west of St. Mary and overlooking the stunning St. Mary Lake, provides a picturesque setting for campers to enjoy breathtaking sunrises against the backdrop of Red Eagle Mountain. Serving as a convenient base camp, it offers easy access to numerous captivating day hikes located east of Logan Pass.
You can't beat staying in the park. This is the closest campground to Logan Pass which helped us get there early in the morning before it got busy and the parking lot turned into a madhouse. We saw plenty of wildlife, even a bear. That means you have to keep a very clean camp. We kept everything in our car except our clothes which we kept in the tent. The park service is very protective of its bears and for good reason. Don't give a bear any excuse to be sniffing around your campsite. The sites are a little close and a little small, but we spent most of our time hiking and exploring the park so that wasn't a big deal. We also appreciated the showers behind the nearby camp store. You get 8 minutes of hot water for $2.50. I would definitely recommend this campground, and I would stay again. I posted some pics of the view from our site.
David S — Google review
Our family stayed in 2 small but nice cabins that were built in 1941. We had our own bathrooms and a large wooden storage cabinet. The whole area was quiet with great views of the mountains. Rising Sun has a good restaurant called Two Dog Flats with very tasty and healthy food options with moderate to high prices. The picnic area across the road was closed because a mother bear and cub had been visiting there. There is a camp store with some basic food, camping supplies and gifts. All of the prices in the store are extremely high! So be sure to stock up on everything before hand. The staff at Rising Sun is very helpful and friendly.
Tom S — Google review
It was great. We reached there at 4 in the morning. Luckily someone was leaving. We didn't have to wait in the gate as we were there so early, we directly went to an empty site on Saturday morning. The site was clean. Restrooms have water and it's fairly clean with paper towels. Our campsite was right next to the mountain so the sunrise and sunset was very pretty and dreamy. The price was only $20 per night so very cheap compared to other places.
Prithvi A — Google review
Great campground if you are working your way from the west side of the park to the east side as we were doing. It's close to Logan's Pass and the hike to St. Mary / Virginia Falls. It's also not as difficult to get a spot as is the case of Many Glacier. The only negative is while our campsite was nicely tucked in off the road, it did directly back up closely against another site.
David R — Google review
Awesome campground with good views. A close drive to many popular things including Logan pass and going to the sun road. Come early for the best chance at getting a spot. Bathrooms are nice. If you want to shower you gotta but tokens at the gift shop near by
Bigsmoke — Google review
Great location, only a few miles from the east entrance and within walking distance of the general store. Variety of camp sites. Bear boxes. Potable water. Lots of trees and shade. Spectacular view of the mountains. Great ranger talks in the amphitheater in the center of the campground. Bathrooms were okay - flush toilets, cold water only, leaky sink, loud door hinge, not well lit or ventilated. Included a waster water dump station.
Lauren V — Google review
Amazing hosts and beautiful campground. We think it is prettier than the one at Many Glaciers (which is much harder to get into). We arrived early and got in line and were able to get a spot by 9:30am). The host helped us move to the loop which allows limited generator use for our 2nd day. Wonderful views and plenty of wildlife nearby.

Rising Sun was a great campground and pretty quiet compared to the others we stayed in. Beautiful views of the Sun rising and setting. We were here for a super moon and were able to get amazing views right up the road from the cliff overlook.

Lake McDonald, the largest lake in Glacier National Park, is a picturesque alpine lake that offers various activities such as kayaking and canoeing. The surrounding mountains provide a stunning backdrop for landscape photography during sunrise or sunset, with the calm waters of the lake reflecting the vibrant colors of the sky. Additionally, it's a popular spot for fishing and hiking to nearby attractions like Hidden Lake and Avalanche Lake.
Beautiful! We loved taking out a motorboat on this lake! Another time we did kayak/SUP. And we also liked to come eat some huckleberry ice cream and sit out on the benches to watch the sunset over the lake
Leah P — Google review
Beautiful lake, super clear water when the wind isn't making waves. The rocks have amazing colors. There are many different turnout spots where you can walk down and see the lake. It has great swimming opportunities as well as beaches to just lay and relax in the sun. I would recommend taking time to stop and walk down to the water for a better view when looking for a great reflective shot.
Jason D — Google review
An extremely beautiful spot! We came here as our last stop on the way out of the park. There weren’t a lot of people, the views were amazing, and the sound of the water was peaceful. A great view of the mountains with the lake and colorful rocks
Maham B — Google review
Amazing views. Super clear water. Not too crowded when I was there but definitely could be during peak season as the beach is pretty small. Brought my inflatable kayak. All watercraft must be inspected and tagged by NPS before being allowed on the lake

Bowman Lake, located in Glacier National Park, is a picturesque destination for kayaking and camping. As the third largest lake in the park, it offers stunning mountain views and a serene atmosphere. Accessible via a six-mile unpaved road from Polebridge, MT, this remote location provides opportunities for hiking and enjoying the natural surroundings. While popular among recreational visitors and wedding photographers, there are still plenty of spots to find seclusion along the shoreline.
Beautiful. I took a kayak out for a couple of hours. It was beautiful. And, we saw a couple of eagles!

This lake is amazing but is flooded with people. It is tough to find parking and the campground is filled with people kayaking, Professional Photographers, People who are just on vacation like us. It's pretty crazy how many people traveled down those gravel, windy roads for that long to see this lake but it is pretty nice

Yes, yes, yessssss! This is an absolute gem from mother nature herself. There is an abundance of wildlife, picnic area, bathrooms and a postcard panoramic view that is a must see for all. It's way out off the beaten path, but totally worth the drive up the unpaved road. Don't forget that you will NOT have cell service once you've made it to the lake.

I think this just might have been my favorite lake view in the park. The surrounding facilities were well maintained, even after the close for the season. Campground and picnic area... as well as a boat launch. They even had a large fire pit.

It was an amazing sight to see. Rough road to get down to the lake, but a must-see if you are in the area and well worth it. If you love nature this place is for you.

A little out of the way but totally worth it. This is a part of Glacier that you must see for yourself. Pristine mountain lake with no development around it. Truly God's country.

Incredibly beautiful lake surrounded by mountains. It is worth driving on gravel roads to get there. I wish I had my kayak, but we just went for the view. The water was cold but guys were in the water fishing and some were kayak. It is crystal clear. You have to drive past Polebridge Mercantile, so be sure to stop there for a bite to eat. The place is peaceful and views are incredible.

Most beautiful lake in the world. Loved the general store you encounter before heading up the unpaved road to the lake. Be sure to get a huckleberry bear claw before you start.

Campground
Saint Mary Campground in Glacier National Park is a spacious and picturesque camping site with stunning mountain views. It's one of the few campgrounds in the park that allows reservations, so it's advisable to book early for the best spot. The campground offers flushing toilets, running showers, and access to amenities like a visitors center and camp store. RVers will find suitable sites for larger vehicles, while tent campers can enjoy a generator-free area for peace and quiet.
No hookups campground. Water and dump station are available during the Spring and Summer, but not during fall and winter. Smaller sites, but still a good base location. Good views. Glad to have gotten a site since competition is fairly high. Worth the money. Sept 30, 2025.

We were in loop C site 145. The views of the mountains were awesome but hazy due to the Canadian wildfires. All sites are pull-through and adjacent to the road with many providing limited space for campers. Our site was tight and did not allow us to put out the awning on our camper. There is a nice shower building with four (4) gender neutral showers with easy access from all sites. There is potable water throughout the loop and at the dump station across from the campground entrance. A camp host was in the loop, frequently making rounds to welcome new guests. The staff were friendly and informative. The ranger at the campground entrance provided a good overview of what to expect and what to avoid. You cannot forage for wood but can purchase dry firewood from the General Store at the Rising Sun campground a short drive up Going to the Sun road. Generators are allowed in loop C from 8-10am, noon-2pm, and 5-7pm daily. We had 4-bars of 5G Verizon service throughout the campground.

This is an amazing place with a nice view and it’s a cozy little campground. During this time of year though you’ll have to bring more water because it’s pit toilets (really nice by the way) and no water but that’s as expected during the colder months. It’s really a neat spot because of the view of the mountains and stars. I highly recommend this campground for its really cool and quiet! 😃

My wife and I enjoyed our stay as we met our family here. We stayed in loop B and there are bathrooms but no showers in this loop. You must go to loop c for showers and there are only 4 showers, so it can be a bit busy. For as many campers as there were, the campground was pretty peaceful and quiet and didn't feel quiet. I enjoyed our site as there were a few trees so it separated our site from others which I enjoy!
Taylor W — Google review
A nice campground for tenting and trailers. RV camping is welcome. Motor Coaches are a little challenging. No electricity but generator usage is available in loop B and C. The restrooms are updated and clean. Clean showers too. Close to great hiking and sightseeing.
Wayne M — Google review
We booked 5 nights online and there was no announcement that the campground would go into primitive status. On our first day, restrooms and water were available, but starting the second day everything was shut down with no running water and no restrooms, only pit toilets. We were camped right in front of the restroom area and it was extremely frustrating to wake up and find it closed without warning. A lot of campers around us were also upset. Imagine reserving, expecting basic facilities, and suddenly being left without water or bathrooms. Because of this, we had no choice but to cut our stay short and move to another campground. We are very disappointed with how poorly this was handled. At the very least, there should have been a clear notice online before booking or an announcement at check-in. This campground really let us down.
Mark — Google review
Shut off water when we were there 9/17 because they can I guess. So there was one, single pit toilet for entire campground. Always a line. Lock on porta potty by ranger station at entrance. Ranger never there. Only C loop open. This is most likely how it has been since Labor Day since they seem to want to shut down after Labor Day. Its still summer, hello!! Given misinformation at visitor center about extending stay. You can do so by modifying reservation on recreation.gov upto 14 days. Rising sun and two medicine closed because they can. Website information also contradicts itself saying the same campground is open in one spot and closed another spot on the website.

A rustic campground with vault toilets and water. No electric. Sites are pull through. It is not close to restaurants or stores. The location is convenient to hiking trails...about 20 minutes drive away.

Nestled in a national park, Avalanche Campground is a serene retreat for both RV and tent campers. With 50 sites catering to different camping preferences, it offers a comfortable stay amidst hemlock and cedar trees. The campground's proximity to captivating day hikes like the Trail of the Cedars and Avalanche Lake makes it an ideal base for nature enthusiasts. Whether visiting in winter or summer, this campground provides access to stunning natural beauty and wildlife sightings.
Very quiet small campsite with adequate amenities. The main upside is that you do not have to fight for parking to go to the avalanche lake trail, you can simply walk from your campsite.

Great spot in the middle area of the park. More basic amenities than other campsites, with no showers. Campsites were for the most part spaced out enough. It was nice to have easy access to avalanche lake hike and was easy to get to Logan pass and apgar areas for hiking

This campsite is very well kept and relatively quiet given it is right next to a very active trailhead. Restrooms were actually toilets, no showers. There was no trash laying around and they have multiple shared bear boxes. We got lucky and got a spot here when I looked the night before arrival. There were tons of open sites that people never showed up to. I'm glad whoever had my spot actually dropped their reservation to make it available to us.
Jason W — Google review
Camp service people were absolutely horrible. Intrusive to us and nearby campers and going through campsites searching for "things that can attract bears" while threatening to call the park rangers if people stay up past 10:00. Would not recommend this campground.
James R — Google review
Hands down one of the best camp grounds in a national park! I was in B57 across from bathroom with only a a single campsite on either side of me. ⛔️ no cell service passed west park entrance! No internet cell service in Apgar village! Only access is a hot spot at apgar visitor center which can be slow Due to a lot of people using it. August 7-13 2025 #1. New bathrooms/ additional bathrooms have been built within the last 1-2 years (2025). So disregard older complaints regarding bathrooms. #2. ❤️ the bathrooms have no light. This makes sleeping in my rooftop tent crazy amazing and for any dark sky national park enthusiasts this also gives a pure camping experience free from light pollution. Excluding the ignorant campers who like to idle their vehicles with their headlights blaring into neighboring camp sites all so they can charge their phone at the expense of others! #3. Yes the toilets are flushing not vaulted and there are sinks with running water. There are areas to dump dish washing water. Signs say NOT for dishwashing!! So come prepared with a dishwashing basin of your own and wash your dishes in your camp site. ⚠️ NO shower facilities ⚠️ No laundry Facilities within the park #4. There are potable water spigots all throughout the camp ground. This made filling my 4 gallon Jerry can extremely easy as one was right next to the site. #5. Extremely limited generator hours ❤️. This is probably one of the best camp grounds in a national park where you can tent camp and not be choked out by generators. The hours are limited ton2 hour time blocks three times per day posted hours are at the camp info board. #6. This is a heavily treed area so most camp sites do not see full sun long enough to recharge a deep drained battery. If relying on a solar panel system plan ahead for bringing a generator back up or alternative. I managed a 6 night stay only powering up a 12v arb fridge and nothing else and I struggled and had to use my pseudo generator back up system. #7. Garbage trucks Large Garbage trucks came through the camp twice during our 6 night stay and they arrive before 7am! Extremely noisy! #8. Despite pictures online The camp sites are extremely close to one another and often share the same pull through parking areas. This is also bad if you are a roof top camper as smoke from every single camp fire will funnel up and choke you out and pollute your tent etc. #9. The shuttle system The shuttle system is not typical! So if you want to catch a shuttle heading east bound from Avalanche shuttle stop then you can expect a 1+ hour wait for 2 people and longer for larger groups. You can get extremely lucky and catch a shuttle sooner but this is not normal so plan accordingly!! This is because the shuttle busses, starting 2025, can only carrying 12 people max and they often give priority to people getting on at Apgar and McDonald lake stops. The drivers will radio to let other drivers know how many people are waiting at each stop so they can plan and adjust reserving seats or making room. Often though you can expect the drivers to tell you they have no rom and that you will need to wait! #10. Bear boxes Are few and in between! This is not like yellow stone where you get your own bear box. The boxes are shared amongst 3-4 camp sites! Be prepared to store your food in your own vehicle etc.. #11. Portable toilet dump station! This is a first I have ever seen in a national park! An area where you can empty a composting toilet!

Cool campground, little Rude park ranger host. Arrived late 10 pm, first time camping Glacier. Did not know my site number as reservation was made 3 months prior. Spoke with two different campers at the grounds and they both told me just pick an empty spot. Seemed logical as most campgrounds NP it's just pick any open spot. Got 7 am wake up call from ranger at my van door. I explained that my reservation receipt is on my computer with site number. Guy insisting I am doing something wrong and I just ask him to find my name of his list. He refuses to look and wants me to wake up my 2.5 year daughter and move. Only after protest he finds my name #3 on his list. I tried to explain more and apologize when I saw him again at 11 am. Jerk wants to lecture me and tells me to leave the site which I have to remind him that I have paid till 12 pm. America's best and brightest, please use some common sense. I will be waking you up at your campsite next time I arrive late to find my assigned spot

A beautiful campground in the middle of Glacier National Park. Lots of spacious spots. The camp sites feel secluded and private. There are fun hikes accessible from the campground itself. Also, you can access the shuttle system from the campground. We were easily able to hop on a shuttle up to the top of Logan Pass without having to drive up or park in the parking lot.

Situated on the northeastern shore of Lake McDonald and near the picturesque Going-to-the-Sun Road, Sprague Creek Campground offers an intimate and peaceful camping experience. With a restriction on towed units and RVs over 21 feet, this small campground ensures a tranquil atmosphere amidst the sheltering trees. The shaded spaces provide relief from summer heat, making it an ideal spot for nature lovers seeking a refreshing escape.
Great little campground in Glacier National Park. It is about a mile south of Lake McDonald Lodge and situated between Going To The Sun Road and Lake McDonald so you do hear the road traffic but you have amazing views of Lake McDonald and access to the lake. The bathrooms are clean and there is potable water. The campsites are nice, some better than others. The other half of the campground is a picnic area. It has a couple of kayak/canoe/sup launch sites. Overall a very laid back and quiet campground. And the camp host, Jane, is very friendly, helpful and wonderful. So far it is my favorite campground in Glacier!

This campground is wonderful! We stayed for 3 nights and had the time of our lives. Getting a campsite here is HARD! It’s a very small campground and it’s beautiful so demand is really high. It’s a bummer that some people don’t show up to their reservations and don’t cancel them so the campsites end up empty. We saw a few like that during our stay. The campground is really shaded and if you’re lucky enough you can get a campsite right next to the lake. We stayed in campsite 15 and had our own little private walkway to the lake. The campsites are really close to each other and not a whole lot of privacy between neighbors. Again, it’s because the campground is very small. The campground has potable water, shared food storage containers, dump station, and flush toilets. No showers, or hand soap in the restrooms. We had easy access to the lake and went there every day. The sunset is beautiful and the lake is stunning. It’s also very private bc that portion of the lake is only used by people camping for the most part. There is a day picnic portion in the other side of the campground but it has access to a different part of the lake. We saw deer in the campground. Keep in mind that bears are also around. We didn’t see any but bear spray is recommended. We took the shuttle to hitch stops right across Sprague to Avalanche trail, lake McDonald lodge/village, and Logan pass. It was SO worth it and free! You also don’t need a car reservation for going-to-the-sun road if you stay here. We went to shop at lake McDonald lodge and their coffee was really good! I would absolutely love to stay here again.

I absolutely loved this campground! Great location and beautiful area. Our site was wooded and perfect! There was a little trail that lead down to the lake from our site. The campground host was sweet and knowledgeable…you could tell she loved what she did! I will definitely be back to this campground!

Wow, what a great campground!! Perfect starting location to explore the park, even has its own shuttle stop which turns out to be a huge plus during the busy summer months when lots are already full. My campsite #16 had its own little trail down to Lake McDonald which was perfect for cold plunging in the cool waters on a hot day while watching the sun set behind the mountains after hiking all day. Those sunsets are truly magical. The Lake McDonald lodge is also close by which came in handy for last minute supplies, ice, and a large pizza when my camp food just wasn't cutting it. I really enjoyed my stay here and preferred it over my campsite in St Mary, but that's more of a personal preference than anything. Stay here and you won't regret it!! Ohhh and if you have paddleboards/kayaks bring them, you can launch them here too!

A beautiful area with small pebble beach. There is day use parking available. Make sure you carry a bear spray. A grizzly bear had been encountered prior to us arriving there. Day use area closes at 8 pm
Julian M — Google review
Small campground next to Lake McDonald. You will have quite a bit of road noise and the bear boxes are awkwardly spaced, making it feel like you are in a neighbor's spot and using their box. Lots of shade and a trail down to the lake for easy access.
Jackie D — Google review
A nice site that is well kept and clean. There are dedicated car camping sites ($20/night) that are ALL first-come first-serve, so make sure to come super early to secure your site! There are also 3 sites dedicated to those without vehicles (bicyclists/hikers) and those are only $5/night. This is right on the edge of Lake McDonald which is a nice cool temperature, and there are dedicated bathrooms and portable water pumps. Furthermore since there are no electricity hookups and no areas for RVs, then it's also nice and quiet!
Eric — Google review
The Sprague Creek campsite where we stayed gave us privacy and great views of Lake McDonald. It’s just a short drive north of the visitor center and is unique in that it does not offer RV access which provides more peace and quiet. If you plan on staying there during the summer months you need to arrive early to ensure you find a spot. On the campground website they will list when the campgrounds fill each day which is helpful. This site along with others is based on a first come first served basis only so be sure to plan ahead and arrive early to get a good campsite. This location also offers a nice private beach behind the campsites which is a great spot to look at the sunset across Lake McDonald. Since it still sits on the lake it also makes it convenient to get around since it is close to several attractions! - @wanderingwithustwo

Cut Bank Campground is a secluded and peaceful camping spot located in a quiet corner of the park. With just 14 sites, it offers a sense of solitude and tranquility not found in larger campgrounds. Situated among trees that provide shade and privacy, this primitive campground is ideal for tent campers seeking a peaceful experience. Accessible via a 5-mile dirt road off U.S. 89, it's recommended for tent camping due to its layout and road conditions.
We came up for day use at the end of August. It was only about 1/4 full. There is one pit toilet (clean) with TP and hand sanitizer. Lots of bear proof food lockers available. The location is great to get away from crowds.

Really nice campground on the eastern side of Glacier and great the NPS runs it with no reservations. Road in wasn't too bad, and the vistas from the campground were beautiful. Glacier National Park is home to a unique feature known as a triple divide, where waters potentially can flow into three drainages. The creeks and streams in the southeast section of the park feed into the Birch and Marias Rivers, then the Missouri and the Mississippi and empty into the Gulf of Mexico. The water in the northeast section feeds into the St. Mary River that joins the Saskatchewan River Basin. From there, some of the water flows into Lake Winnipeg, then into the Nelson River which drains into the Hudson Bay. All water west of the divide feeds into the Flathead River, which then flows through Flathead Lake and empties into the Clark Fork which joins the Columbia River to the Pacific. NP WEB

This campground is very nice if you want to get away from all the noise in Glacier. It is still technically in glacier but it comprises on about 15 campsites and they never even got half of them filled (we were there in August). It also is a gateway for those who are planning on going back country camping, there are about five parking spots specifically for that reason. No potable water, so make sure to bring your own water storage, as well as being your own wood because they don't sell any. Great view of the mountains!

Spectacular spot, very secluded, 5 miles down a gravel road off Hwy89 on the east side of Glacier. It’s a primitive site so bring everything including water, but enjoy the solitude.

I was here on September 14-16, and couldn't find a spot. It's a nice enough site, but it's just as crowded as the others and lacks amenities. It could be a gem if it wasn't busy, but when I arrived at 6 AM on Saturday it was packed. I chose this site based on old reviews that said it was relativity unpopular, but those days are long gone. Choose this site if you like it's location, but not if you want privacy. Don't count on finding a spot.

Cracker Lake, located in Glacier National Park, is a stunning .6-mile-long turquoise lake fed by Canyon Creek. The glacial silt suspended in the water gives it a vivid color that captivates hikers. The trail offers breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks and the sunlight striking colorful waves at the far end of the lake. Backpackers can drop their gear at one of three backcountry campsites and enjoy a mountainous panorama from a rocky outcrop overlooking the shoreline.
This is one of the best hidden gems in the Park. Jaw dropping lake, can't really describe its beauty in words. It's a 12 mile moderate hike. I kept my legs soaked in the cold water for about half an hour 😉

Beautiful hike in Many Glacier. We first wanted to hike Grinell Pass, but we where there end june so it was closed because of snow. Did the 13 miles (21.5km) walk up to Cracker Lake from the hotel parking. Parking lot was ful at 6.00am because of the construction work. The walk was okay, not to much height. We walked up to the bump of a grizzly within the first mile. Luckily it was walking away from us. At the top at Cracker Lake we've got charged by a 500 pound grizzly mom with two small cubs. We where lucky that there was a group of 6 other people right in front of us. One of them went in front of the bear and chased it away. The adrenaline was pumping. No one was harmed. Good to know the path is full of bears! Especially in summer when the berry bushes are out. We where there end of june, there was no berry at all and still spotted 2 grizzlys. When we drove back out of the park, we also saw a black bear grazing next to the road.

12 miles total with 1500 feet of vert. The views start to show after 4 miles and it is stunning. Cracker Lake is a beautiful shade of glacial turquoise. Saw a few dozen people but not super busy.

Guys, if you have not been here, you have to come. This was one of the funnest hikes we did in Glacier. It is relatively flat, 12 miles, but the end is amazing! The water is really cool and you can even jump off the cliffs into the water if it's a hot day. I would recommend coming here for sure if you have time. Great spot to picnic and there is a campsite as well.
Ben R — Google review
Not a very hard hike at all. Finding parking in July is awful but parking anywhere in Glacier is abysmal. Trail starts out around the reservoir. I literally almost stepped on a sow and cub black bear while getting to the first creek crossing, luckily she was content munching vegetation. The trail then switchbacks up a ridge, eventually climbing up into fields of millions of wildflowers. We camped there, and it felt like there was a tornado going on. Huge gusts that actually collapsed the tent on us multiple times. First time that's ever happened. Reguardless, well worth the hike.
Adam N — Google review
This has to be one of the most unique lakes I saw while at Glacier and well worth the somewhat lengthy hike. The trail wasn't terribly strenuous with long switchbacks on places where you did have to climb. We also saw a bear right of the trail during this hike, the only time during our visit in the park that we saw a bear while hiking. It was also fun to find the old mining equipment, and even find that it was manufactured near my hometown in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Incredible!! Yes it’s just as amazing as described. There is a great write up on the national park site that will guide you mile by mile practically. Very doable - don’t get deterred by the distance, it’s worth it. Late summer offered incredible blooms. Round trip was about 6 hours. ***Bear spray is a must! Lots of sightings of black and brown bears throughout the year on miles 2-4ish.

Kintla Lake, located in the North Fork Area of Glacier National Park, serves as a stunning gateway to the park's remote wilderness. This picturesque lake is approximately 14.5 miles north of Polebridge Ranger Station and offers access to breathtaking hiking trails like Boulder Pass and Hole In The Wall. The journey to Kintla Lake involves navigating a rugged gravel road, so it's wise to check with park rangers about vehicle suitability.
Down a long, one lane, dusty dirt road through forest and meadow, lies a lake near the most remote corner of GNP, and it is pretty! The campground was full yet quiet, except near the lake, and the restrooms were surprisingly pleasant. The water was clear and cold, and the lake bed was covered in pebbles that were great for skipping on the glassy surface!
Brian B — Google review
Beautiful, peaceful, and an adventure getting there. What’s not to love? The lake is blue and pretty clear. The vast majority of the tourists don’t make it this far. The road is a very rough gravel road that will beat your vehicle to death but it was worth it. A 4x4 is nice but not needed. I thought having some ground clearance was an absolute but saw a minivan and a few small cars up there so it can be done. The campground is remote and small but perfect in that it’s in such a peaceful place. I hate to tell people how beautiful it is because you do t want it to get busy and touristy. Also visit Polebridge and the little store Polebridge Mercantile before heading to the lake. It has a very cool vibe and the local snacks are made in the community right next door with local ingredients.

This one of the most pristine lakes I have ever seen or stepped foot in. Kintla Lake is well worth the 15 mile dirt road drive. The drive is pretty scenic and an adventure through meadows and evergreen forests with a mountain backdrop.. I would recommend Kintla Lake over Bowman Lake. It is more secluded and less crowded. The view is also better. I visited in August 2021.
Paul W — Google review
Very beautiful and remote. Limited parking available so get here early. We had to wait for 30 minutes until someone left. Great place to get away from the huge crowds of Apgar village. It is a slow going, long drive and one lane road. One camper said they caught a few lake trout.
Scott M — Google review
Beautiful lake way out of the way of the hustle and bustle at lake McDonald. Road in is long and gravel with plenty of potholes but manageable. Hike along side the lake is level with minor ups and downs. Views are wonderful, with little to no other people around. But as previous people have said there isn't much parking. I'd highly recommend for the lake, hike, and adventure to get here.
Anthony K — Google review
Practical advice - Kintla is 15 miles from the Ranger station near Polebridge. Parking is very limited. The dirt road has gravel, exposed rocks and a few slick areas when wet. Yes, a car can make it but be mindful of some of the sharp rocks along the way to avoid a flat. Also, if taking a car, a higher ground clearance vehicle is recommended to avoid bottoming out on a few rocky or rutted sections. Remember to pull over for faster vehicles and when meeting oncoming vehicles. Enjoy the scenery along the way as well.

One of the more remote places to camp in Glacier National Park and campsite are very close to the lake. If you are lucky, you may get to see the black bear roaming the area North of the lake.

Very remote campground with basic services. It's difficult to get to, but well worth it to get away from the crowds. Pro tip: This is real bear country (I saw several within a few miles of the campground), so be sure to secure your food, practice good bear safety, and carry bear spray.

Always enjoy spending my mornings getting my permits in Apgar!

Easy to find and rangers were very knowledgeable and welcoming. Just be sure to arrive early as sites tend to go quick
Nick R — Google review
The ranger that I spoke with was so rude and condescending that it ruined my entire day. The trail that my group had a permit to backpack was closed due to bear activity, so I asked for an alternate recommendation. He rolled his eyes and replied "it's not my job to plan your trip for you." Isn't offering suggestions and information about the park a park rangers job? The woman who was a volunteer was sweet and tried to help, but the male ranger was rude and dismissive. We ultimately left without our permit because he had no interest in helping us.

Fifty Mountain Campground is a popular spot for hikers exploring the northern circuit of Going-to-the-Sun Road. It offers stunning views of Glacier's high alpine backcountry and is known as prime grizzly bear territory, so proper food storage is crucial. The campground provides a few well-sheltered sites, but some were affected by previous fires. Water can be scarce, but the ranger ensures hikers' safety in this beautiful yet potentially risky area.
Beautiful camp site. While we were there we had a grizzly stare us in the face from 40 ft. Extremely important to store your food properly in the provided boxes

We got huck'd up on Fifty Mountain. Grizzly spotted 1/2 mile from camp. Bear hang. Open Pit. Flowing water behind farthest camp site.

Logan Pass is a breathtaking 6,646-ft.-elevation pass on the Continental Divide, offering stunning mountain views and featuring a visitor center. The Hidden Lake Trail starts at the Logan Pass Visitor Center and takes hikers through diverse terrain, from forested areas to alpine meadows teeming with wildlife and colorful wildflowers. The trail leads to the iconic Hidden Lake Overlook, where visitors can admire Bearhat Mountain towering over the twinkling alpine blue lake.
🌄 Breathtaking Beauty at Logan Pass! 🌄 Logan Pass is truly the crown jewel of the Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park! The drive itself is spectacular, but reaching Logan Pass feels like arriving in a whole different world. Towering peaks, lush alpine meadows, and sweeping vistas in every direction — it’s picture-perfect at every turn. The Hidden Lake Overlook trail is a must-do if you visit. It’s a relatively short hike with incredible rewards: wildflowers, mountain goats, and panoramic views that make you stop and just take it all in. Parking can be a bit of a challenge, so get there early or take the shuttle — it’s absolutely worth it. Whether you’re here for a scenic drive, wildlife spotting, or hiking, Logan Pass delivers a truly unforgettable experience. Don’t miss it!

Beautiful area for hiking and sightseeing! Driving is a little steep and road is narrow. Parking is hard to get in the day time.

What a PLACE!!! Absolutely stunning. Be sure to plan ahead and get the right passes. You need a pass to access the road and parking fills up fast. But the gorgeous hikes, views and wildlife sightings are unlike any others. It’s worth it to get up there early and watch the sunrise!
Rachel R — Google review
The short (about 3 miles round-trip) hike captures the majestic beauty of Glacier NP. More often than not, Bearhat Mountain & Hidden Lake are graced by the iconic mountain sheep with pure white coats. The toughest part of the trip is finding a parking spot at Logan Pass. Best plan is get to Logan Pass before sunrise or simply roll the dice. One plan is drop one couple off, return in 1.5 hours, and second couple takes the hike and pictures.

Have visited a few times. Incredible views at Logan Pass which is about 6,400'. Trails here a little strenuous yet if you take your time, you'll likely find it was worth it. Since the park is open 24/7, we came back at midnight and took some cool night sky pictures. No light pollution at all. Glacier National Park is a splendid awe-inspiring view of nature at it'la finest.

Avalanche Lake is a picturesque destination surrounded by dense woods and mountains, offering scenic hiking trails and abundant wildlife. Visitors can embark on the Western Alpine Tour to explore the park's highlights, including cedar and hemlock forests in Lake McDonald Valley and the breathtaking views from Logan Pass. The area is known for its famous hikes such as Iceberg Lake, Grinnell Glacier, Highline Trail, Swiftcurrent Falls, and Avalanche Lake.
6-11-25, Sunny and warm, started after 9am. Plenty of parking in the campground. Scat on the trail but no bears. Dry trail except near the water. We hiked past the Trail Ends sign to the snow field. About 4-5 falls past the lake are in view depending on your location on the lake edge.
Gerard E — Google review
Avalanche Lake was absolutely gorgeous and worth the hike! The trail is about 2 miles each way and not too difficult—shaded, with streams and waterfalls along the way, so it stays interesting. When you finally reach the lake, the view is stunning: turquoise water surrounded by tall cliffs and multiple waterfalls cascading down into it. It felt peaceful and refreshing, even with other hikers around. Tip: Go early to avoid crowds and bring water/snacks—you’ll want to stay and enjoy the view for a while. Definitely one of my favorite spots in Glacier National Park!
Elena I — Google review
Beautiful, well-maintained trail with stunning views from start to finish. The hike winds through lush forest along Avalanche Creek, and ends at the breathtaking Avalanche Lake — crystal-clear water, towering cliffs, and waterfalls. We even spotted a deer and marmot along the way. A must-do in Glacier National Park!
Oleksandra S — Google review
We combined this with the trail of the cedars. My alltrails said 7.1 miles and my wifes apple watch said 7.5 when all was said and done but I had heard it was 5.9 beforehand. Either way, all ages and sizes were accomplishing this hike although most everyone we saw were taking breaks. We were able to do this without taking breaks besides photo ops and spent some time at the lake, exploring. The incline is slow and steady, totaling around 600-700' when done, with barely any of it on the way back. I highly recommend hitting the fishing trail as soon as you see the lake, but also walking to the other side of the lake. The views from both ends are breathtaking. We got here around 630am on a Wednesday morning in early August, the lot was over half full with cars parking every few seconds. This is one of the more popular hikes. The lot is always full after 7am and you have to wait for spots.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely Worth the Hike Avalanche Lake was one of the highlights of our trip to Glacier. The hike is about 2 miles each way—super manageable—and the trail is well maintained with beautiful trees and shaded spots throughout. You follow a creek for a good portion of the trail, and the sound of the water makes the hike feel peaceful the whole way. Once you reach the lake, the view is incredible. Crystal-clear water surrounded by massive cliffs and waterfalls pouring down in the distance. It’s the kind of spot that makes you want to just sit down and take it all in. Definitely recommend packing a snack and staying for a bit. Easy to see why it’s a favorite—don’t skip it.

Located in Apgar Village, the Apgar Visitor Center is a small cabin built in 1929 and offers park maps, books, ranger programs, and displays of flora and fauna. It features interactive activities for kids such as feeling a grizzly bear's fur and identifying birds by their 'songs.' The center also showcases educational displays about plants found in the park and habitats of wildlife. Additionally, visitors can take advantage of the Glacier Park Express to reach the center during summer months.
The visitor center is at Logan Pass, one of the most popular stops on the Going To The Sun Road in Glacier National Park and at the continental divide. The visitor center is okay. Has interesting information about the area which what I want from it. But as for the gift shop, the selection is limited. Yet the most important reason to visit the center is the GORGEOUS scenery at Logan pass. I recommend taking the short hike to the hidden lake if you are physically able to, Wow. And anyone you talk to about Glacier Park I am sure will agree, I can't miss National Park.

Apgar visitors center is located on the southern end of McDonald Lake. Its a great starting point for your trip into the park area. There are canoe rentals along with paddle board. Campground are located in and around the area but permits are needed along with you park pass. This also has a shopping area with lots of shops and coffee. Views are awesome and the lake is crystal clear. Make no mistake, this a great place to start your adventure.
Tracey/Len T — Google review
The Apgar Visitor Center at Glacier National Park was great. Very organized, you could tell where you were supposed to catch your Red Bus tour, a lot of rangers available for questions, great store with lots of hats, shirts, and souvenirs. Unfortunately, their parking lot is pretty small for the amount of people that show up. But if you wait on the hour for a tour to end, then parking is more readily available. Just get there early and be patient with parking.
A M — Google review
Glacier is a beautiful park with incredible views. The visitor center is a good stop before you head into the park. They have a good shop inside with good prices. The park rangers were helpful with questions. There is also a large trail map inside so you can preplan your trip into the park. Keep Your eyes open for grizzly bears. They are not easy to spot in the mountains but super cool when you do see one.
Robert G — Google review
I visited the Apgar Center the day before Glacier National Park "opened" for the summer. It wasn't overly busy, which is good because it's not a very big place. I imagine during the busy summer months it can get very crowded. The rangers were stationed outside in front of the gift shop. The gift shop is large with a wide variety of souvenirs to choose from. Behind the center is a short trail that goes to the shore of Lake McDonald, which is stunningly beautiful.
Chad S — Google review
Very nice facility with helpful park service employees and rangers on hand. Make sure to visit the gift shop to help support the park. This is one of the pickup points for Red Bus tours and you will see them lining up on the side of the building. We were at the Center in September and parking was available. Would imagine parking will be very limited in high season. As a side note you do not need a timed permit to visit the center. One is needed to go further into the park at certain times.
Tim F — Google review
Park rangers are knowledgeable and ready to answer all your questions. There is a Junior Randers program and you can get the book from the rangers. It's a fun way to encourage kids to learn about the park. Gift shop inside. Shuttle bus stop outside.
Louise B — Google review
The visitor center is inside the park so you need your park entrance fee, but this visitor center is free. It was the only place that had any parking and wasn't completely swamped with people. Restrooms were clean and the Rangers were very helpful. The Nature Conservancy runs the gift shop where the National Park passport stamp is located so don't forget to get you stamp!

Nestled at the base of the east side of Glacier National Park, St. Mary / East Glacier KOA Holiday is a picturesque campground offering stunning views of nearby mountains and St. Marys Lake. The recently renovated and expanded site provides various amenities including a pool, kayak rentals, dining areas, bocce courts, putt-putt golf, and a hot tub complex for relaxation after exploring the park's trails.
1st time traveling to MT. We had a sleeper cabin that was perfect. The fact that it had a mini fridge and microwave were an added bonus. The bathrooms were shared but individual at the same time (only one person in at a time and never needed to wait to get in). Also always clean. It has heat (didn't use it) and screens on the windows to let the fresh air in. Plus it smelled wonderful inside of it. I spent more money in the store with the cute gifts and the coffee....yummmm. We did a red bus tour and it picked us right up from the office. We will definitely stay here again.

We visited this campground last month and stayed four nights. It is a large campground offering a variety of lodging for all. They have cabins, yurts and luxury cabins and of course camping sites ranging from tent site, water/power, to full hook-up and back-in or pull-thru sites. There is an exceptionally large dog park and a trail which is one of the best trails that we have seen at a campground and our dog really enjoyed this since the trail leads to the lake too, where there are kayaks if you want to rent one. We also enjoyed the pool and jacuzzi after our hikes and the grounds are well-maintained. You are literally just five minutes from the East gate of Glacier National Park. At this entrance there is a large Visitor Center, a shuttle which takes you to various drop offs to access trails with the final drop @ Logan Pass. We highly recommend this park as the staff and amenities were great.

We stayed for 5 days or so. Great location for the going to the sun road. No grocery stores, the closest is about 30 minutes away in Browning and only 2 very expensive gas stations about a dollar a gallon more on diesel. Go prepared. Beautiful views, quiet, nice laundry room and the red bus tours pick up at this location. The West side of the park may have a bit more stuff, although not a lot more. The east entrance to Glacier National Park is the best to me.

Editing the review down to 4 stars after our second visit. The second time we went for showers, we encountered two separate employees who were very unwelcoming. They made it clear they didn’t want our business, i probably wouldn’t go back unless it’s the only option. *This review is only for the showers and laundry* Showers available to the public for $15, and totally worth it!! I think it was the best campground shower I’ve ever had! Tons of hot water, good pressure, and very clean!! Laundry is coin operated, and they have a change machine. Prices were reasonable (2.25 for wash, .25 per 4 minutes in the dryer - less than $5 to wash and dry a load). The machines seemed clean and were efficient. On the first visit, service at the front desk was friendly and helpful.

Our stay at the KOA at St. Mary’s was absolutely wonderful! The cabin was cozy and comfortable, and I especially loved relaxing on the swing. The staff was so attentive and welcoming, making sure everything was just right for our stay. One of the best parts was the incredible night sky—no light pollution, just a breathtaking view of the stars. We had such a great experience and would definitely recommend this KOA to anyone visiting the area!
Lee R — Google review
Great location for those going to Glacier! Not a ton in the surrounding area as far as restaurants go. This KOA had significantly less amenities than the West Glacier KOA, but was well maintained. Tent sites needed a lot of work as there was no designated spot and our two sites were very muddy and rocky. Picnic tables are also falling apart and very unstable. Bathrooms and showers were clean but not close to the campsites. The hot tub and pool were always packed, but it was nice to have. Laundry is also available here for $2.25 to wash.

Stayed here a week July 2025. Rumors were that it changed management for the 2025 season so this was first with new management. Great location easy access to GTSR, Two Medicine, Many Glacier. I would always stay east side for location and give up west side conveniences. There is a teeny tiny grocery in the town but best to get groceries in Browning before arrival. We paid extra for a patio site. We were on the side of the campground without a Mountain View, bummer coming from FL. Our patio site was overgrown with grass and it was nice to have a table and chairs and a grill but the grill door had fallen off and was just laying around. Site was not level side to side or front to back. We pulled to far forward so had a hard time draining our tanks since sewer hook up was uphill. Our bad for not paying better attention when we set up. Bath houses were clean. Stored well stocked. We didn’t eat from their cafe. Didn’t used pool either.
Faith B — Google review
Most I paid for a camper çabin. It had electric, refrigerator, and, microwave. The outlet was in wrong place to run my CPAP so I ran it off my battery. No toilet or shower. Longer walk to facilities. I think there were similar cabins closer to bathroom I wished we stayed in. During day not bad but at night it would have been more convenient. Close to St Mary entrance to Going to the Sun Road.

Apgar Village Lodge & Cabins is a seasonal hotel located in the stunning Glacier National Park, offering rustic rooms and cabins just steps away from the southern end of Lake McDonald. The lodge provides various accommodation options, including modest motel rooms, cabins with or without kitchens, and spacious family cabins. Guests can enjoy outdoor activities such as swimming in the lake and hiking nearby trails.
Our stay at Apgar Village Lodge & Cabins was absolutely wonderful! We spent two nights there and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. From the moment we arrived, the service was top-notch—friendly, welcoming, and attentive. Our room was incredibly cozy and quaint, with everything we needed to feel right at home. Staying within Glacier National Park made the whole trip feel even more special, and we loved being surrounded by the stunning natural beauty of the area. The stores and restaurants in the village provided great amenities, and everything was just so convenient and comfortable. It was the perfect base for exploring the park, and we couldn't have asked for a better place to relax after a day of adventure. We highly recommend Apgar Village Lodge & Cabins for anyone visiting the park. We’ll definitely be back!

Rated the room a little lower because it was not cleaned very well and few amenities, but did love our cabin old style feel. The area has a classic camp like feel with gift shops, a restaurant, ice cream place and boat rental. Located on Lake McDonald we loved staying here. We did white water rafting which was nice but very tame with low water levels this time of year. Took a motorboat out on the lake and saw Bald and Golden Eagles. Our favorite hike was Trail of the Cedars and walking to Avalanche lake, about 5 miles through a beautiful forested landscape. There are bear in the area but we missed them at the lake being about an hour late

We stayed at an Apgar Village cabin in mid-September 2025. The location right on Lake McDonald is truly unbeatable — beautiful views and convenient access to the park. The cabin itself was clean, but definitely showing its age and in need of some updates. If you’re deciding between the two, I’d recommend booking a room in the lodge rather than the cabins for a more comfortable experience.

This place provides cute little cabins for stay. I was overall happy with my stay here but the only complaint I have is these cabins don’t have ac and when the temperature hits high 90s , like in July when I was there it was 96 , the fan which is provided in the cabin doesn’t do the trick and makes your stay a bit uncomfortable. I understand global warming and when these cabins were built the weather was different but they should think about ac now in there. The front desk was very helpful. I have had absolutely no other issues for the time I spent there. Location is also great but keep in mind you would still need a timed entry to enter the “Going to Sun Road”.
Amit S — Google review
I honestly liked most things about our cabin. It was clean, has a kitchen and bathroom. The cabin has enough room for six. The location is great. The lake is steps away and all the shops and food are right there. There is a grill in the yard to use which we did. It cooked our huckleberry chicken to perfection. The kitchen also has just about everything you need. We also rented a boat right there at the lake which I would recommend. Only issue I had is the bathroom is really small especially the shower. I hit my head on the shower or the curtain bar every single time and I tried to be careful. It’s not great for anyone over 5’5. The pressure is also super weak. A shower head from the year 2025 will solve that problem though. As for the shower head not as easy of a fix. Hopefully someone doesn’t knock their self out because I almost did. Other that that it’s an amazing place to stay while visiting West Glacier.
MrDjdoughd — Google review
Do not stay in any of Apgar Village lodging if you are allergic to cedar, mold, mildew or musty smells. Bedding was also stained & there were specks of stuff on the mattress cover which I hope were not bedbugs. The location was beautiful but the accommodations were rough. If you want something nicer, book a year out & stay at McDonald Lodge or Many Glacier Hotel & maybe they’d be better but we didn’t book far enough out. We stayed in Yellowstone & Grand Teton lodging & this was the worst park lodging by far.

The Location is the WINNER here. The beauty and hometown feeling is also here, excellent for kayaking, or boarders, decent parking. There is food but expensive. Your paying for the access and its seasonal so be aware of this. They have apparel and equipment for those who forgot, lost or broke something.

Apgar Village Lodge & Cabins is all about the location! The rooms are very small and pretty basic, but they’re clean and comfortable enough for a stay. Highline Trail Trailhead is a popular 11.8-mile seasonal trail offering breathtaking panoramic valley views, wildlife sightings, and a ledge with a hand cable for added safety. During summer months, vibrant Montana wildflowers adorn the surroundings, adding to the picturesque landscape.
Wow. What amazing views. This was a tough trail. After hiking several hours, we arrived at the Grinnel Glacier portion. We opted not to go up to the glacier views. It was just too much for us at that point. We took the loop trail down because it was "faster". It's almost a straight decent, brutal on the knees. Waited on the shuttle for about 45 minutes back to Logan's Pass. You might have better luck trying to hitch a ride and give up your parking spot if you started at Logan. As tough as it was, I'm still giving all stars. The beauty is incomparable.

Beautiful trail with stunning views and wildlife viewing opportunities. The glacier overlook is challenging but so worth the challenge for the reward of one of the most stunning views you will see in your lifetime. It’s very worth the hike. But may be challenging for some individuals.

I’ve been to 28 national parks and hiked all around the PNW, this is my all time favorite hike so far. Views are incredible! Pictures do not do it justice. Make sure to check the cameras at Logan pass before driving up. The first day I drove up it was completely socked in with fog and not able to hike. Second day cams were clear but dense fog halfway up that lifted right before Logan pass.
Stephanie H — Google review
This hike was so challenging but so worth it! Postcard-worthy views with every step you take :) I was scared to do this because I’m a little afraid of heights, but honestly it’s such a thrill and I very rarely felt anything less than secure on the trail. If you don’t want to make it all the way to the Granite Park Chalet, the Haystack switchback is a very scenic place to have a quick lunch and turn around! Make sure to wear waterproof shoes and bring your trekking poles - you’ll be crossing a few waterfalls!
Jasmine W — Google review
Roughly 14 mile hike from Logan Pass to the Loop including the Grinnell Glacier overlook. It is strenuous. Grinnell glacier overlook is an out-and-back spur off the main trail that ascends 900ft in .8 miles... then you have to come back down and begin a fairly steady ascent to the Granite Park Chalet. Good place to rest, buy additional water, Gatorade, snacks. Then begins what is, in my opinion, the toughest part of the hike...a 4 mile decent to the loop that is brutal on the knees. Descending sounds easy, it most definitely is not. It is STEEP and uneven. Bring your hiking poles, they saved me. And don't believe google maps estimated time to traverse this. Took us 11hrs to complete this 14 mile hike with sufficient rest breaks, lunch, etc. Start early, it will also help with parking.
Kevin S — Google review
This hike was, of course, highly recommend and reviewed. It definitely lived up to the hype. First, be sure to get to Logan Pass by 6:30. At 7:00, almost all spaces were gone. There is a ledge early on with a cable, but it's not that narrow. We went on an overcast, windy day, and we only made it to Haystack, about four miles away, versus Grinell Glacier overlook like I had hoped, and it was still one of myself top ten favorite hikes. We even saw a mountain goat closer than we would have liked as it ran down the mountain near us.
Dennis E — Google review
Super picturesque, pretty easy although long. Way busier than I would have hoped for a weekday in October, but the crowds fade out after the first half mile or so.
TF — Google review
This was one of the most challenging hikes but so worth it. It was very cloudy and foggy the day I went, but still loved the hike. Make sure you arrive at Logan's Pass by 6:30 in order to get a spot for parking or even earlier if the weather is sunny. The drive up in the fog was crazy. I went out and back about 11 miles and it took about 5 hours. I was alone a lot of the hike, but had bear spray. Didn't see any wildlife but a ram up on the rocks. I would highly recommend this hike, if you want a challenging hike and are not afraid of small ledges and heights.

Foot Elizabeth Lake Campground is a popular backcountry site in Glacier National Park, known for its stunning views and convenient location near the lake. However, it has gained notoriety due to high bear traffic in the area. The campground offers five large spots, a food prep area, bear boxes, and a pit toilet close to the lake. While it provides easy access to water and picturesque views of Ptarmigan tunnel, visitors should be cautious of potential wildlife encounters.
Great campsite central to several hikes. Tons of trout for fishing. Beach access close by and great views. Camp gets crowded at times due to the central location and expect pack mules to walk by mornings. There are two bear boxes here.
Justin D — Google review
The campsite is actually pretty great. Best part was there were bear boxes so you do not have to worry about hanging your food. I only had a rough experience due to a storm had rolled through when I was 2 miles from the campsite. What made it worst was the “foot bridge” was actually a cable bridge. I could not cross the cables because I had a service animal with me, therefore I had to suck it up and walk through horse ford and the water was shin/knee deep and about 30 something degrees all while carrying a dog.

Very pretty campground looking up to towards Ptarmigan tunnel. Near the lake for easy access to water for filtering. Additionally, the food prep area has plenty of space for multiple groups.

5 large spots, a food prep area, 2 bear boxes and a pit toilet. All located close to the lake. Going there starting from the Belly River trailhead, the suspension bridges were put down. That means wading (knee deep) through cold water

Nestled in the heart of nature, Medicine Grizzly Lake is a serene backcountry gem that beckons adventurers to pitch their tents and explore. You can opt for an easy hike of just a couple of miles or challenge yourself with a moderate trek to Triple Divide Pass. The lake is framed by stunning mountains, with Razoredge Mountain dominating the view and a picturesque waterfall cascading from nearby glaciers into its tranquil waters.
This lake and valley are achingly beautiful. I highly recommend visiting for some rare solitude in this part of the park.

An incredibly beautiful and peaceful backcountry lake surrounded by spectacular mountains. The view across the lake is dominated by Razoredge Mountain and a waterfall feeding the lake from one of the glaciers just below the top. Towards the north is Triple Divide Peak and Triple Divide Pass. And on the south you will find Medicine Grizzly Peak watching over the valley. The approach to the lake is through an open meadow that lets you experience the grandeur of the scenery. The trail follows the northern shore of the lake from the outlet on the east side almost all the way to the head of the lake on the west side.

Triple Divide Pass is a breathtaking viewpoint located at the end of a challenging climb along Mount James' southern flank. From this vantage point, hikers can enjoy stunning vistas of Razoredge Mountain, Medicine Grizzly Lake, and Medicine Grizzly Peak to the south, as well as views across Split Mountain and Norris Mountain to the north. The area is often covered in snow below Norris Mountain even during the summer months. Triple Divide Pass also serves as a starting point for ascending Triple Divide Peak.
A stunning viewpoint at the end of a strenuous ascent along the southern flank of Mount James. Triple Divide Pass offers amazing vistas south towards Razoredge Mountain, Medicine Grizzly Lake, and Medicine Grizzly Peak, as well as north across Split Mountain and Norris Mountain. Snow usually persists through the summer below Norris Mountain. The pass is the base for scrambling up the slope to Triple Divide Peak. You will often find bighorn sheep, mountain goats, or hoary marmots in the vicinity.

Like all the hikes in Glacier National Park, this one is amazing and unforgettable, but has the bonus of being a very easy hike compared to most in Glacier. Also arrived at the parking lot around 9 a.m. on a Saturday and there were plenty of spots.

It is one of the most popular hikes in Glacier National park, Montana. Lots of stairs & it is an uphill trail to the beautiful lake. The trail of hidden lake starts behind the Logan pass visitor center. The view is amazing. We saw five big horn sheep on the trail. The lookout wooden platform is well maintained. The hike is moderate but worth it. You have to park your vehicle in Logan pass visitor center. Finding a parking spot is very difficult.

This is an amazing spot with a beautiful lake. It’s mostly boarded so easy to climb up. It is all up most of the first half but not a difficult hike. Fairly short. We saw mountain goats and rams. A beautiful experience. It does get very busy and the parking lot is fairly small so expect to wait for parking or have to leave and come back at another time
Diana S — Google review
While parking is a major challenge at Logan Pass, this is a hike worth taking. One of the best, if not the best, in Glacier National Park. It’s a boardwalk for much of it, so very easy, with only moderate elevation. The non-boardwalk parts are easy dirt trails. You can’t get lost. The “lookout” is a 1.5 mile straight shot and gets you to about 8000 ft. So 3 miles round trip. You can hike down another 1.5 miles down to the lake, but that obviously makes the hike an additional 3 miles. This is a must do hike, at least to the lookout. VictorB

What can I say. This is the most beautiful lake scenery in the whole Montana state. I love the hike and the sights all around the trail is just amazing. Anyone in the area must see this place. One of the beautiful alpine lakes in Glacier National Park. The start of the trail is through Logan pass. The trail takes you to the overlook and through the overlook there’s another trail that leads you down to the lake. Since the trail starts from Logan Pass, finding a parking spot is very challenging, so make sure you leave early. Chances of seeing wild goats on this trail is quite high. Also bear spotting is high when you walk down towards the lake from the overlook. During our time, the trail to the lake was closed because of the bears, so have your bear spray ready.

The hike was SO worth it. The view and experience you get up there is unreal. We went swimming while we were up there. The hike going up is almost all uphill, so coming down was much easier. We are new hikers, but it was really manageable. We saw a moose super close to the trail. I recommend doing this

One of the most beautiful places at Glacier National Park! Absolutely worth the hike. It’s a very busy trail so prepare to wait or squeeze by other hikers coming the other way in spots and expect plenty of company at the lake. There is often a lot of bear activity on this trail so it does get closed periodically for that so you may wanna check before heading out so you don’t get halfway there and get forced to turn around. Fortunately no issues when I went and had a beautiful, sunny day. Epic!
FFKDTP1 — Google review
The lake is well worth the long hike. Lots of people were swimming and my 6year old fell in when trying to retrieve a chunk of snow. We also saw a moose just on the edge of the lake.

Great hike, lovely view throughout the trail and lots of beautiful wild flowers. The hike itself is moderate, but take lots of water with you. If you want to avoid the crowd and find a parking spot, try to be there as early as you can. We reached the parking spot at 8 and most of the spots were almost gone, however, the iceberg lake wasn’t much crowded so we were able to get a good spot. Also make sure you have bugs spray, cos there definitely was a lot of bugs.

This trail was awesome! Got to the trailhead around 1030am and it wasn't too packed since it's up in Many Glacier. This hike is long but the ascent is gradual just make sure to bring plenty of water and check the weather. This is a great hike for the solo photographer. Definitely recommend!

Easy but beautiful trail. We completed this hike on Sep 12, 2022. This trail is on eastern Glacier. The lake is serene and grand. We were told the trail was closed the day before our visit due to grizzly. Found wild berries and a bear paw print alo g the trail.

We came over to this area of the park for a long day of hiking and it did not disappoint. On our drive in, we saw a grizzly bear cub on the side of the road fairly close which was cool. We stopped at the information center and found out that the Grinell Glacier trail was closed part way up because of snow. Because of that, we decided to do the Iceberg Lake trail instead. The start of our hike was quite foggy so we couldn't see the tops of the mountains. Right as we approached Iceberg Lake the fog lifted to reveal gorgeous views. The lake was absolutely stunning. The hike back revealed great views of the surrounding mountains that we couldn't see on the way there. The hike itself was about 9 miles round-trip, a little shorter than the signs said. It started out pretty steep, but it leveled out pretty quickly. The way there was almost all uphill, but it was a fairly gentle climb. I would absolutely recommend this hike and I'm sure there are many others that are great at Many Glacier as well.

The lake is amazing. The water is a beautiful turquoise. It's a must see if you are in the Many Glacier Area of Glacier National Park. The hike can be considered challenging. It's a 4 8 mile hike to reach the lake and it's a lot of elevation gain. The entire hike is beautiful. There are amazing mountin views. As you get closer the trail overlooks a very scenic valley. There are plenty of spots to sit and rest once you reach the lake.

Derrick S — Google review
Saint Mary Lake is the second-largest lake in Glacier National Park, after Lake McDonald. It's located on the east side of the park, and as you drive along the Going-to-the-Sun Road, you will also be driving along it's northern shore. Saint Mary Lake's waters are cold and clear; they rarely get warmer than 50 °F and are home to various species of trout for fishing. The lake is almost 10-miles long and 300 feet deep. During the winter, the lake is often completely frozen over and the Going-to-the-Sun Road is closed. We found a pullout where we could park and walk down to the water along a narrow dirt path in a field of wildflowers. The pullout also had a picnic area, but it was too cold and windy for that. From the water, you can see Little Chief Mountain standing guard over the west end of the lake, and Wild Goose Island in the near distance. I remember visiting this place as a child and many memories flooded through my mind as I walked there. In 2015, wildfires struck the area and the damage from them will be for always. Please be careful. Despite all that it is still a very lovely place to pull over, listen to the silence and enjoy the view.

Hard to beat Saint Mary Lake in Glacier National Park. Located on the east side of the park along the Going-to-the-Sun Road, the 10-mile long lake provides numerous pullouts with opportunities to explore many hiking trails, see Jackson Glacier, and meet friendly and helpful staff rangers at the St. Mary Visitor Center. This is one of the picturesque parts of Glacier National Park and, no offense to any other place we saw, one of it's best lakes. Plus there are plenty of trails and overlooks for you to enjoy.

For experienced hikers, there's an additional 3.2-mile roundtrip hike to Bullhead Lake from the same trailhead. The area is known for frequent moose sightings and is also grizzly territory, so caution is advised.
A beautiful waterfall that is easily accessible via a scenic, fairly flat, and well maintained trail. The trail is 1.8 miles to the falls. There is lots of parking at the visitor center and campground, but the parking lot may be full during busy times and you may have to park outside on the street. Plan 3 or 4 hours to do the out and back trail.

This is a gorgeous place. The hike to it is relatively mild, our 8 year old complained some but, we made it there and back. We saw a deer but not much else in terms of wildlife. Natural beauty however is never ending gorgeous: landscapes, lakes, mountains all of it. It helped that it was sunny and warm when we hiked in mid June.

Came out here with the family last week and was well worth it! Easy trail for families with kiddos, had ages 5-10 and no problem! We did not see much animals we went during day hours. Forums say to go early morning around 5am or later day 5pm if your looking for wildlife. Supposedly that is when the trails die down. Secret, if there is no parking sneak over to the iceberg ptarmigan trailhead side!

This was an amazing hike. The trail was in great condition. Along the hike to Red Rock Falls we heard of a big bull moose at the first lake and took the detour. From what the rangers told us it is common to see them in the area feeding in the lakes. This was such a great animal to see. The falls had several areas to sit and watch the water make it way down towards the lake. We found a nice spots for lunch and I took a VERY COLD swim after right at the bottom waterfall. I highly recommend a dip in this water. It will leave you feeling great for the rest of the day.

Really fun and easy hike! The falls are just a short distance off the trail and easy to find. Water flow really depends of rain or snowmelt. There’s a couple spots to get a good view of Redrock Lake on the way. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Perfect way to spend an afternoon! Mostly easy trail for those with some mobility issues. Gorgeous views. Lake and reflections are beautiful, and falls are not large, but are picturesque. Fall foliage was lovely as well. Mountains are stunning.

We visited this place in July 2022. This waterfall trail is located on the Many Glacier Entrance side of the park. There are 3 trails that begin in the same area. So watch out for the one you want to go. This trail forn the most park is easy. You walk though thick forest area which means not great panoramic views of the vast park. There are some overgrown areas but aren't that intrusive. You can take your kids on this trial, we did, since it was just 1.8 miles one way from the parking lot with an elevation gain of just 200 ft. Once you make it to the falls, there is plenty of places to sit and enjoy the view and the sound of the water hitting the rocks. The kids loved to explore the area and walked around the top of the waterfall fall where you can go as well and see a nice clean turquoise pool. The kids let us there lol. I woul say this waterfall is the one where the kids really explored. I would recommend this to the entire family. A bit long but not bag of elevation gain.

Although there's no campground on-site, it's just a short distance away from camping facilities. The hike to the lake is family-friendly and perfect for spotting wildlife like moose and deer. We came here on our first day to the park (9/12/21). As reviews say, this is the spot to see moose. Sure enough, the first thing we see at the far west end of the lake is a moose! That was awesome and a great start to our trip. Also, it’s a beautiful lake just by itself.

A great place if you are into wildlife and specifically looking to spot a moose. You are more likely to see them in the morning, but if you don't see any the first try, don't hesitate to try again a second time, which is what it took for us to get some amazing views of a moose playing in the lake.

The bakery operates from April to November and provides a quaint atmosphere with spectacular mountain views.
Beyond impressed with this place. We stopped by on our way to the North Fork entrance of the park. In my opinion an absolute must for any Glacier trip. Pastries were great, everyone was incredibly nice, and they have a wide selection of other items if you need anything. The road here along the west side of the park is not paved, and it’s quite the bumpy ride. I’d recommend entering the park on the going to the sun road and then driving north through the park as far as you can to get here.

Such a fun place after a long drive on mostly unpaved roads. The food is absolutely incredible (try the Huckleberry Bearclaw and the Pizza Rollie) and the staff in there are so kind and helpful. The cat sleeping on the merchandise was also a big hit for me. Check this out if you are in the area on the way to the North Fork entrance to Glacier National Park.

IMO it's worth the drive. The bumps on the gravel stretch weren't horrible, but DO expect points where the clouds of gravel dust take the visibility down to 10 feet or so. The Polebridge village is tiny but interesting. The views of the mountains are gorgeous. There is nothing unique about the store offerings and the prices seem extremely high even given how far off the beaten path this place is. Any staff I dealt with was polite but seemed to be "done with it" this late in the season.

Found out about this place on tic tok. Took about a hour drive north from Columbia Falls. Mostly going 35 mph down an unpaved road. All that was there were some cabins you could rent, small restaurant/bar and a mercantile store. Store was small. The main thing that was raved about were the Huckleberry bear claws. Spend over $15 for two. They were so dry and essentially no flavor. Not good and not worth the drive. Spend your time elsewhere.

Tourist information center
The Saint Mary Visitor Center is a stylish hub offering information panels, hiking maps, souvenirs, and history displays with stunning mountain views. It provides helpful information on the local Blackfeet tribe and hosts public programs on various subjects like astronomy and backcountry trip planning. Located near the far end of the lake and entrance station, it serves as a convenient stop for visitors to gather park information and pick up the free Going-to-the-Sun Road shuttle.
We visited on a day that was covered in wildfire smoke, but the visitor center really saved our entire visit! When we arrived, we unexpectedly got to see a native American dance presentation with some of the local Black Foot dancers wearing their traditional dress. We absolutely loved it! They even had the entire audience join hands and do a social dance at the end. Such a well done and informative show with such talented young people dancing. The center also had some nice displays and a small shop. We were thankful to have a distraction inside that day and it was much needed!

The St. Mary Visitor Center is an absolute must-stop when visiting Glacier National Park. It’s not only the gateway to the east side of the park but also packed with information, amenities, and breathtaking views. Inside, you’ll find knowledgeable and friendly staff ready to answer questions, provide maps, and suggest hikes or scenic routes that fit your schedule and ability. The displays are excellent — offering insight into the park’s history, wildlife, glaciers, and Native American heritage. There’s also a small gift shop with books, maps, souvenirs, and essentials. Also make sure to take advantage of the theatre because they do show some shows every half an hour. The center has all the conveniences you’d hope for: clean restrooms, water refill stations, and plenty of parking. Outside, the views of St. Mary Lake and the surrounding peaks are stunning, making it a perfect spot to start your Glacier adventure. From here, you can easily access the famous Going-to-the-Sun Road, as well as nearby hiking trails and scenic overlooks. Rangers also host programs and talks that add even more depth to the visit, especially for families or those wanting to learn more about the park’s culture and ecosystems. Whether you’re gathering information, resting, or simply soaking in the scenery, the St. Mary Visitor Center is a highlight of the park experience and a wonderful starting point for exploring the east side of Glacier.

This is a great visitor center. They have a cool feature of the whole park with lights to see where different features of the park are located. They also have a theater with a good informational movie that they play. Its a great stop on your way into the park. The park Rangers are helpful in answering any questions you might have.
Robert G — Google review
Very nice visitor center! Great information and helpful service. The gift shop is small but with a great selection if gifts. There are restrooms but fairly small for the ammunt of people that come through. Overall a wonderful place to start your journey from the east into Glacier NP.

08-30-2025. I visited the Saint Mary Visitor Center it’s one of the main and largest ones in Glacier National Park. I usually collect National Park stamps and tokens, and this place had a great variety of them along with nice souvenirs and gift items. The theater is spacious and offers great information about the park’s history, wildlife, and trails. If possible, try to attend the stargazing program at night it’s a fun and beautiful experience! Don’t forget to bring blankets and switch off your car lights for the best view of the stars. Parking can be a bit tricky during busy hours, so plan some extra time. ⭐ Bonus tip: The visitor center staff sometimes hand out junior ranger activity books for adults too ask for one if you enjoy learning little facts about the park! I hope you’ll like my review I tried to give you a heads-up and a quick glimpse!

Visited all Glacier National Park visitor centers and Saint Mary is the best one. Friendly rangers but not as crowded than Logan Pass and Apgar VC. View is stunning and is close to the Rising Sun Motor-in and Cabins where we were staying. We hopped on a Red bus tour from there for a full tour to Macdonald Lodge back and forth and super glad we started there as apposed to the west side. Why? It was just so quiet and calm and no long lines of grumpy visitors waiting for the shuttles like at Apgar. As for the VC, bigger than Logan Pass and less busy than Apgar. Had time to watch the short movie about GNP and it was good, done fairly recently (2010ish). Kids did their junior ranger thing there. Found parking but it gets filled up quite fast but not as fast as the other one VCs.

Swiftcurrent Mountain offers a challenging yet rewarding hike with breathtaking views. The trail, starting from the Swiftcurrent Pass, takes hikers through a series of lakes where they may spot wildlife like moose. The summit provides panoramic views of 48 peaks, four glaciers, and nine lakes. Hikers can also explore nearby attractions such as Apikuni Falls and Apukini Mountain for varying levels of difficulty. Despite its intensity, the stunning scenery and diverse terrain make it a memorable experience for outdoor enthusiasts.
Great hike from Swiftcurrent Inn. It took us 8h and the hike is about 28km both ways, so it's a bit more challenging day hike. Worth going to the lookout on the sunny day to enjoy the best views in the Many Glacier area.

Hiked in from Many Glacier. Strenuous but it has beautiful views!
David S — Google review
Amazing views from the top! Started at 6:15pm and trail ran it in just under 3 hours from "The Loop" trailhead. Absolutely stunning lighting at 8pm at the top. Saw zero people on the way up from just before the Granite Park Chalet and then from the fire lookout all the way back to the loop trailhead.
Matthew F — Google review
Swiftcurrent peak and fire lookout at 8436 ft. The lookout was occupied by service personnel, to my surprise. Unfortunately it was hazy, no clear view at the summit :( . We had a good workout from the climb though.
S C — Google review
A hard hike up from the swiftcurrent pass trailhead, but you are rewarded with views of many different glaciers and peaks from up there. No ranger was staffed at the lookout when I summited.
Brian B — Google review
Awesome hike yesterday. Experienced three seasons in one day to get up to fire tower. Glad we brought rain gear, gloves, hiking poles and stocking caps. 17 miles RT from Swiftcurrent Motor Inn, per Garmin. 9am to 6:30pm hike with 30 minute delay due to 2 moose munching casually along trail in morning.

Historical landmark
Granite Park Chalet is a rustic backcountry accommodation located in Glacier National Park, offering stunning mountain views and a true wilderness experience. It is one of the remaining structures from the Great Northern Railway developments within the park. Accessible only by hiking trails, visitors can enjoy no-frills lodging and must bring their own food and water. Optional linen and bedding services are available for an additional fee.
We had a great trip. It was so close to many trails you normally can't reach in a day. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The only downfall was walls were paper thin, so you heard all your neighbors. Wearing ear plugs at night was a must, but the views were breathe taking.
Ray H — Google review
It's a historic Chalet in a wilderness! Gorgeous views, amazingly friendly staff. The kitchen times are bit early (4:30-6:30p), but having a kitchen is a luxury! There's a 7:30p evening program for all hotel guests where hot water, coffee, tea, and cocoa are offered. The pit toilet is an absolute hazard. It's being used by all hikers and guests all day long, and it's ripe. Riper than ripe. Bring a mask and don't stand downwind. As other have mentioned the walls are thin. Like thinner than thin. I have never experienced anything like it. "There are no secrets in the chalet" was said by staffmember while offering ear plugs. Wear them. Our room was outfitted with 2 bunk sets, sleeping 4. The $40 offered bedding was a treat! I stayed nice and warm, and the beds were fairly comfortable. Personally, I slept really well. Extra blankets and flashlights were also offered. We even got to witness the pack mules on our way down!
Cabryn T — Google review
Walls of the chalet are paper thin. Neighbors brought a baby with them to the chalet. Baby cried off and on all night long. The chalet should have age restrictions so people who can remember the experience can enjoy it. I also thought the staff there were not particularly helpful and did the bare minimum. I also stayed at Sperry Chalet this summer and the staff there went above and beyond to be accommodating and helpful. What a difference in attitude and professionalism. The only plus is the location-which is spectacular. It could be better with a little tweaking.
Lori H — Google review
Not a review on the lodging. I hiked the Highline Trail to Swift Current Pass to Many Glacier one day on my Glacier NP trip a few summers ago. They had Gatorade bottles here for a surprisingly reasonable price. Was a godsend right after the hike up to the Grinnell Glacier overlook.
Connor W — Google review
Obv great location - u don’t need these reviews for that info. The staff are amazing as are their backstories. The chalet is more a hikers hostel to manage expectations. But clean and safe. Specially the bunk beds have comfortable and firm mattresses, so folks with iffy backs, feel good about this. The floor is not flat (rock slabs etc) so those planning any stretching etc consider requesting staff either in advance or on the day of, for extra blankets and perhaps a sheet for hygiene.
Venkatesh P — Google review
You have to earn it by lining in but that makes it even sweeter. Unmatched beauty and always provides great conversations with others staying or hiking through!

Iceberg Ptarmigan Trailhead is the starting point for a connecting trail that leads to Trail 167. The trail offers stunning views of Mount Wilbur, Mount Henkel, Atlyn Peak, and the Ptarmigan Wall. There are 20 parking spaces available at the trailhead. Hikers can enjoy the steep climb to Iceberg Lake and witness icebergs floating in the water.
It is a pretty serious hike, but I made it with one leg and my 6 year old. Iceberg lake is awesome, my boy fell in while wading in the water, also saw a moose along the way. We rented bear spray, but the trail is pretty busy, so probably didn’t really need it.
Jacob K — Google review
Beautiful hike that takes you to Iceberg Lake. There are great views all along the trail. The lake was still frozen when I did this hike in May, but as it melts it forms icebergs that float in it during the summer. 10/10 recommend this hike!
Jaiden A — Google review
Beautiful hike offering gentle elevation gain. Beautiful wild flowers, great views and the destination is just amazing! Almost 10mi Roundtrip from Iceburg lake and back from Swift Current Motor Inn
Chirag M — Google review
The trailhead is at the swift current motor inn and we got out early at 5:45. We were probably the first people out and it was still dark when we left. We saw a grizzly and two moose on our hike to the lake. The hike was a gradual uphill and very doable. The views weren’t great throughout the hike like some other glacier hikes but there was some great shots - would definitely hike again!
Matt H — Google review
Both Iceberg lake and Ptarmigan tunnel/lake are well worth the hike. We combined the two in one hike and it was a bit much (14+ miles) but we still really enjoyed it. The hike to Iceberg lake is steep at first but then levels off and follows a ridge. It's really beautiful to see the icebergs floating in the lake. Ptarmigan pass is a bit more strenuous with a continuous climb to the lake and then a very steep section of switchbacks to get to the tunnel. We also saw a grizzly along the way (see video)
Frank M — Google review
Such a great hike. The lake is beautiful at the end and the trail has pretty views. Not a lot of overhead cover so I’d recommend bringing a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and lots of water. Out and back hike - it’s pretty easy to do and the trail is well kept, just a bit long. We saw two bears, but carried bear spray and made lots of noise as we hiked so no issues.
Krishna K — Google review
The views are spectacular and you can take a break at the hotel next to it. We got to see moose on that day.

The Loop Trailhead is a popular starting point for the iconic hike in Glacier National Park, offering sweeping views along the 7.6-mile trail to Granite Park Chalet. Hikers can choose to start from the jackknife parking area or from Logan Pass on the Highline Trail and descend. While challenging, it provides access to the glacier overlook and offers beautiful views, although not as stunning as The Grinnel Trail.
Loved hiking this trail. Took the more difficult route to Logan's Pass. Highly recommend you fuel up with a hefty meal and hydrate hours before the hike. Snack during the hike to keep up your energy. I know the park pushes bear spray but I have had more success using a rescue or emergency whistle. They work well so maybe carry that as well as bear spray. This was our encounter almost 3/4 of a mile in.
Mark K — Google review
Cons: Wish someone told me this before: 3.4 miles straight uphill and mediocre view. Not much shade. Absolutely only for experienced and ambitious hikers looking for fitness. 0/10 enjoyable Pros: more animals and lots of fresh animal feces if you love NATURE Admire all dads carrying their babies on shoulders
Zihan ( — Google review
Loved this trail up to Swiftcurrant mountain. Only saw one black bear from a distance. I hike a lot so I thought the entire route was moderate, but many would find it challenging. The switchbacks to the summit are UP. Bring enough water or better yet, a water filter. Was asked at the chalet by a group who ran out of water. Also met some CDT thru-hikers and stopped to chat with them and gifted snacks. Definitely will be coming back.

We rented some bicycle's and did road to the sun as it has not been opened for vehicle traffic yet. It was quite a trek getting up there and I would say it was the better way to travel as I can only imagine how busy it can get during high summer.
Pieter J — Google review
A lot of nice wildflowers creeks along the way. Go during a light rain and you'll have it to yourself compared to a sunny day.

We hiked to the chalet. At 8:10 am there was plenty of parking still available. Good place to start a hike. It is all uphill and beautiful. For June 24... Lots of wildflowers, snow last 0.6 miles on and off. The chalet is closed but plenty of picnic tables. Great hike. Took us about 6 hours round trip at a leisurely pace. Enjoy!

Nestled below Pumpelly Pillar and Mount Helen, No Name Lake offers a serene and less-traveled wilderness hike from Two Medicine/Pray Lake. The trail presents some challenges but rewards hikers with stunning mountain views and encounters with wildlife like moose, mountain goats, and bighorn sheep. The lake's green waters peek through the ice in winter, creating a surreal atmosphere. Backcountry camping is available with prior booking, providing an opportunity to immerse in the beautiful surroundings.
Visited here Sep 25, 2022. Did not camp here. It was a short detour from the Pitamakan-Dawson loop. The color of the the lake is very surreal and mistic.

Nice hike without too much elevation gain. The pit toilet is the cleanest one I've ever seen. The wild flowers and berries along the hike are beautiful. Not a lot of beach area or shade once you make it to the lake, but it's offers a beautiful view.

A beautiful lake tucked away just below Pumpelly Pillar and Mount Helen, shielded through towering walls of rock. Great hike from Two Medicine.
Tilman G — Google review
A great hike from Two Medicine/Pray Lake to here at No Name Lake. Some challenging sections, but this trail is a lot less traveled than others, so it is much more of a wilderness hike. Be sure to bring along plenty of fresh water, or the ability to filter the lake water. Backcountry Camping sites are available here, but must be booked ahead of time. Don't hike here without bear spray.

Gunsight Lake, located in the Lewis Range, is a challenging yet rewarding hike with approximately 12 miles of trail and an elevation gain of 1,500 feet. The route offers up-close views of Blackfoot and Jackson Glaciers. Surrounded by towering mountains on three sides, the lake provides a picturesque setting for a day hike or as a stopover while crossing Gunsight Pass.
Beautiful lake with backcountry camping spots that must be reserved. This lake is pretty cold, I could only stay in for a few minutes when it was 75* outside in August. I posted a picture of a trail sign with the distances from the lake. The lake has very little rocky beach area. It can only accommodate about 12 people. There were some flys that bite and mosquitoes that were a bit annoying. There are 2 enclosed toilets in the camp area and a pole to hang bear bags.

There are numerous excellent remote campsites to choose from along this route, but my preferred one is located at the base of Elizabeth Lake (ELF). Apart from offering a pleasant camping area, it provides the added benefit of enjoying the sights and sounds of Elizabeth Lake on a pebbly shoreline. As dusk approaches, the water takes on a mirror-like quality and mirrors the majestic mountains in the background. To reach this picturesque scene, you will need to undertake a challenging 9.
Hiked over Red Gap Pass and stayed at Elizabeth Lake Head (ELH) and then 3 nights later at the foot (ELF)
