Park
Yugawaramanyo Park is a charming green area near Tokyo that features a stream, waterfall, and foot spas with unique designs and temperatures. Visitors can reach the park via Tokaido Line and explore various natural sites such as forests, waterfalls, and wildlife. Additionally, during the right season, fireflies can be spotted in the park. A Tanuki shrine is also located nearby along with a foot onsen for those seeking relaxation (300yen per person).
Beautiful river walk and the foot bath was at the entrance (or exit idk) of the park. It’s not a big park so it wont take too long to walk along
Jupiter N — Google review
Glorious park full of bamboo, ginkgo, kaseki elms accompanied by bubbling river. There’s a footpath and places to eat and drink and - randomly - free WiFi through. Hence the review! Very lovely
Ben D — Google review
A great place to wander around - the waterfall and 'rapids' are pleasant, and there's an easy walk. There are seats at various points where people were relaxing, reading books or snoozing within sight and sound of the water. The signs warning of bears and wild boar were somewhat alarming, but I assume that spotting one of either is rare (there were many oeople wandering around without a care). The area is well-preserved, with a pleasant visitor area. Best of all, it's free to enter (via a tunnel from the carpark). Buses run in both directions from just outside. A very relaxing place.
Jeremy F — Google review
Footspas were pretty good and the scenery walking through the park along the river is quite beautiful. Downside is the horrible plastic sandals you have to wear to use the spas, other than that the variety of spas with different tiles to stimulate, sooth or punish your feet in each of the seven separate baths was excruciatingly pleasant. 😬
Danny S — Google review
Enjoyed the short riverwalk in the park. There was a lot of shade that proved helpful in tolerating the summer heat. Numerous small waterfalls along the river. Didn't see any monkeys or wild boars even though there were warning signs. Enjoyed some espresso, a sandwich, and juice at the park cafe. Food was better than average and reasonable in price. Would definitely come back.
Gerry W — Google review
Loved this park so so beautiful liked the terrain the green the water the light there’s a small coffee shop and a co working space which are beautiful too
Neha J — Google review
Nice park, but pretty overrated. You can walk through it in about 10-15 minutes. The shrine inside is a bit rundown. Not a highly recommended tourist destination, but alright to stroll through if you’re in the area.
Fox G — Google review
If u happen to be a tourist around Tokyo, and have time to kill, go book urself an onsen resort in Yugawara. U can get there via Tokaido Line. Once in Yugawara, by city bus, u can get around different places, including Yugawaramanyo park. Yugawaramanyo Park is filled with various sites to see. Natural life, forest, waterfall, etc... U might even get to see fireflies if come at the right season. There's is also a cute little Tanuki shrine (with a touching story if can read Japanese). Closeby is a foot onsen (300yen per person) if u like some relaxation too. Highly recommended if u like nature. Park is free to enter, but surround site may need to pay, such as foot onsen.

Nature & Parks
Makuyama Park is a hillside park that comes to life in February when thousands of plum trees bloom, creating a stunning display. The park offers BBQ and picnic areas, as well as trails leading to the grove of plum trees. Visitors can enjoy the lovely scents and take a hike up the mountain for some exercise. Additionally, there are playgrounds, river access for fishing, and various trails available from the park.
Makuyama Park spends 11 months out of the year essentially dormant and uninteresting, but in February it puts on its full dress in the form of a wide variety of plum blossoms. Now is the time to visit. For those in the area on the last week of February, I highly recommend visiting. For details ask at the visitor center next to Yugawara Station.

Lovely spot. We caught it as plum trees were beginning to bloom. Lovely scents too. We hiked up the mountain a ways for a nice bit of exercise. We spent about 3 hours there. Easy 15 minutes bus ride up from Yugawara station.

(Translated by Google) On Saturday, March 1st, I rode my bicycle up the sloped road from Yugawara Station, and the plum trees were in full bloom. Climb the mountain trail to the highest point in the plum grove, and the scenery is beautiful. There are many rocks and the descent can be slippery, so we recommend wearing hiking shoes. During the Plum Banquet, there are stalls and you can eat there. On the way to the park, there were several places that seemed to be famous for mandarin oranges and were selling mandarin oranges.

(Translated by Google) While most reviews seem to focus on the plum grove, I'd like to share that the autumn foliage is actually quite beautiful as well! 🍁⠜ While most people probably visit between January and March, Yugawara's warm climate means the autumn foliage peaks in early December, allowing you to enjoy it until late into the day. At this time of year, the air is dry and the skies are clear, making the autumn foliage photogenic. I'm not sure how many people visit here as a hiking trail, but the Niizaki River trail, at least partway along, isn't too steep and the views are expansive, making it a wonderful spot for a hike. There's even a sacred place, with a mountain god enshrined there. There are a few people rock climbing in the plum grove, which is interesting to watch from the sidelines. These photos are from 2019, so I apologize, but since it's natural, they probably haven't changed much since then.

(Translated by Google) I come here every year on the second day of my stay at Yugawara Onsen. This is the third year, and in 2025, the full bloom was delayed, so it was in full bloom and I was able to enjoy it. By the way, I went last year on the last day of the same plum party, but the crowds were mostly scattered and there were very few tourists. It was crowded this year! This was the first time I had to wait more than 20 minutes for a shuttle bus. Also, the Yugawara ware (ceramic Mukaiyama kiln) that I buy every time I visit here is wonderful, and is the reason I come here. An old lady who serves customers in the cold every year♪ I will be shopping again next year, so please stay healthy! Outdoor bath
Kogome no Yu Onsen is a simple outdoor hot spring located in an onsen town famous for its spring cherry blossoms and autumn foliage. The facility offers various baths, including an indoor bath and open-air baths of different sizes. Visitors can enjoy the soothing hot springs while taking in the scenic surroundings. The water is known for its skin-smoothing properties, making it a popular choice among guests. Additionally, there are relaxation areas where visitors can unwind after their bath.
Nice place. They take care of one cat, many people like this and take pictures. It gives good vibes.
Anas X — Google review
We enjoyed staying at this onsen for a couple hours. Our sense is that it is an onsen popular with Japanese families. Each side includes an indoor and an outdoor hot pool. The views, at least in summer, were not quite as pretty as the advertisements online would make them seem. But we still enjoyed the experience.
Alex B — Google review
The staff were very friendly. The open air hot spring was at a good temperature, not too hot, and the water made my skin really smooth. The only thing I was disappointed in was the lack of a view of any sort from the hot spring, given the scenic surroundings of the location. But at ¥1000 and lots of places to relax after the bath, I'm very satisfied with my experience here.

Nature & Parks
Fudo Falls is a hidden gem nestled in a forested enclave, offering a serene and picturesque setting. The waterfall is surrounded by modest shrines and complemented by nearby hot springs. Visitors can enjoy a short hike to the falls, passing by a shop and cafe where they can indulge in foot onsens using captured hot spring water. While access to the base of the falls may require climbing experience due to the lack of an established path, it offers an adventurous opportunity for those with such skills.
This place is a neat waterfall tucked into a forested nook. The waterfall has some modest shrines built around it and there is a hot springs nearby. Also, there is a shop and cafe along the very short hike to the falls. The cafe captures hot spring water for guests to enjoy a foot onsen.
Luke M — Google review
The Fudo waterfall is easily accessible by bus in about 20 minutes from the Yugawara train station. It’s the second stop from the end of the bus route leaving riders off right beside the falls. The waterfall itself isn’t spectacular but the setting is nice. There is a small tea house and shrine directly near the falls. Lots of beautiful moss and bamboo trees make for nice pictures.
Wolf M — Google review
Quaint little waterfall with a hole in the wall cafe run by an elderly lady. Lovely place for a matcha with mochi, and foot onsen for just ¥500.

Beautiful location. Food available, foot spa as well :)
Adam K — Google review
This review is not indicative of the falls, I'm mostly just writing it to warn others of what happened to me. I took a walk up to the falls from Yugawara. The last 500m or so is pretty much directly along the highway and is clearly not intended to be walked as there is no sidewalk (sorry to the traffic that had to deal with me being a hazard). When I arrived at the location indicated on the map, there was a parking lot which seemed to be the entrance, but it was gated off and appeared to be closed potentially into perpetuity. If you're planning on coming, be sure to double check that it's open and accessible at the time, and just take the bus like others here have recommended.
Eden S — Google review
This place is boarded up and closed also do not trust google maps location of it, that will just take you to the side of the highway.

(Translated by Google) There aren't many tourist spots in Yugawara (sorry!), but I found something that looked like it, so I decided to drop in. To be honest, I thought it would just be a waterfall, but it was quite charming. There was also a tea shop. They sell souvenirs. I wasn't prepared, so I passed it up. I'm sorry. The lush trees and the sound of the waterfall falling were beautiful. I recommend it. You can get there by taking a bus bound for Okuyugawara from bus stop number 2 at Yugawara Station.

Gosho Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in Kyoto, Japan. It was constructed during the Heian period and is dedicated to Emperor Konoe. The shrine features several buildings, including the main hall, which houses a statue of Konoe. Many visitors come to Gosho Shrine to offer prayers for good fortune and success in their personal lives. The shrine also holds several annual festivals that attract large crowds of people from all over Japan.
Very fun to visit here. Try to find "Shichi-fukujin," sevenlucky gods. And you will be surprised to see very old and spiritual giant trees here. Enjoy!
Google review
An old Shinto shrine which is a 'powerspot' apparently. It's certainly very humbling with its three massive trees that are about 800 years old. One of which you pass under to enter the carpark. Inside they have statues of the 7 gods of fortune which are fun to find and pose with for pictures. (There is one across the road. Don't forget about him!) Up the top is the main shrine area, with a couple of cute shishios guarding the deity there. It's well shaded, has easy access and is a relaxing place to visit.
JG T — Google review
I stopped by on my way back from visiting Yugawara Onsen. The bus bound for Yugawara from the hot spring gets off at the Gosho Jinja-mae stop, and you will see the first torii (first shrine gate) in front of you. There are many old trees in the shrine grounds, including an 850-year-old camphor tree, and you can feel the power of the shrine. It is fun to look for the Seven Deities of Good Fortune. The shrine office is open from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, and the red seals are available only for 600 yen per set. The shrine office is open from 10:00 to 15:00, but it seems to change depending on the season, so it would be better to check the website before visiting. It was about a 15-minute walk to Yugawara Station on the way back.

Yugawara Plum Grove, also known as Makuyama Park, is a sight to behold from early February to mid-March when around 4,000 red and white plum trees bloom in a mesmerizing display of white and pink. The sweet fragrance fills the air as visitors enjoy the stunning view of Sagami Bay and Manazuru Peninsula from the top of Mount Makuyama. In autumn, "Momiji no Sato" features 540 maple trees turning red.

I've been coming here for 15 years on and off. This time the blossoms looked great from the rest area, but you couldn't relax there because this time they booked a dj playing loud music which ruined the ambience. This place is getting busier every year too. Better off gong to the plum orchard at Shuzenji now I think.

There is a free shuttle bus from Yugawara Station, but the departure time and number of passengers are limited, so we recommend checking the Yugawara Bairin website. Makuyama (626m) features in the list of famous 100 mountains of Kanto region It is a beginner level hike with no difficult parts and can be attempted by all with average fitness level. Best season to go is February- March when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom in the park at foot of the mountain. The peak offers view of Sagami bay and on clear day Oshima island is easily visible.

The starting course was Kajiya bus stop - Makuyama Park - Yama no Kami - Oishigadaira - Nangoyama branch - Makuyama (lunch) - Azumaya - Makuiwa - Makuyama Park - Kajiya bus stop. The weather was cloudy and the temperature was just right. Unfortunately, the mountain trail was covered with bamboo, making it difficult to walk. I hope that the mountain trail will be in place around the time of the "Plum Banquet" festival. It took about an hour to reach the summit from the trailhead next to the Yugawara Plum Grove stone monument. The mountain path at the start of the climb required pushing through unkempt, untamed pampas grass and weeds, and the climb took me up an area resembling a unkempt, scrubby mountain behind a forest, teeming with bees, flies, horseflies, and grasshoppers. Huge boulders were scattered everywhere. The summit was also overgrown with pampas grass and weeds, with no wooden tables or benches, and the view was poor. I was surprised by how many people there were, although most of them were elderly. My wife was very happy with the little snowy mountain climb. It's nice because it's easy to climb and safe. (Translated by Google) If you go from Nangoyama, it will take about 40 minutes. The mountain is round and squat, and the summit is spacious, offering a good view of Sagami Bay. There are no dangerous spots overall. The Manazuru Peninsula appears to be at a dead end. There is a circuit at the top of the mountain that takes you through deciduous trees. If you look at it from the neighboring Toi Castle ruins, you can clearly see that it has a cute, perfectly round shape. However, the mountains are lonely because they have no special features other than the scenery. If it's plum season, be sure to stop by Yugawara Plum Grove at the foot of the mountain. It is also nice to see plum blossoms from the top of the tree. Nestled in the coastal hills south of Odawara City, Enoura Observatory is a stunning fusion of art and nature that invites visitors to explore Japanese culture through the lens of contemporary design. Created by renowned artist and architect Hiroshi Sugimoto, this outdoor museum features a series of thoughtfully arranged structures that harmonize with their natural surroundings.
An amazing experience. Not a museum in the traditional sense. More of a walkthrough experience reflecting on historical pieces laid out in a beautifully constructed space with the most gorgeous views of the sea. Went in early December, mikan and yuzu trees were in full bloom. Must buy tickets in advance. Would advise going on a sunny day.

It is difficult to categorize this facility with anything. The facility itself is art, the location is art, the ancient Japanese artifacts are art, and the fusion of these elements makes for a special experience. The cherry blossoms and rape blossoms were in full bloom, creating an Amazing landscape. The three hours are in the morning and afternoon, but the three hours go by quickly. Reservations are required through the website.

This place is tucked away in the countryside about 1.5hrs drive from Tokyo. It's best to book in advance for admission and free shuttle bus or parking permit, 3300 yen each person. It's closed at 4:30pm and the access to the bamboo forest is closed at 4pm. Some very exquisite architecture details, as well as spaces (Mies and Philip Johnson glass house vibe), displaying works by the designer/photographer himself. It's quite a little gem esp. if you can manage to visit during a cooler day.

Calm, zen oasis for those wanting a break from Tokyo. Imagine art but in the form of land-based installations and structures. Visited on a Saturday and it wasn’t crowded. Take your time to walk around the grounds, sit on any open benches and just soak in the moment. Wonderful views of the ocean, but like many others mentioned, pray your day of visit is bright and sunny. A leisurely walk around the entire ground would probably take 1.5-2 hrs. There’s a cafe right at the entrance that sells citrus-based drinks (since there’s a citrus grove there). Directions: definitely reserve your tickets online, together with the shuttle bus that will pick you up from Nebukawa Stn. Don’t get confused by the other shuttle bus which is for the Hilton Resort. Not advisable to walk from the train stn to the observatory since the road is narrow, hilly and it’s quite a distance away. If travelling from Tokyo Stn, can take the Shinkansen to Odawara Stn (33mins) before changing to a local train to Nebukawa Stn - this would be the fastest route but pricey due to the Shinkansen ticket.

Amazing art experience! Only wish i could have stayed longer as the session is only 3 hours and I go slowly. Brings art and architecture together dexigned by hiroshi sugimoto. Elements of japanese garden throughout and one of my favourite art places - reminded me of naoshima and chichu. There are 3 shuttle bus for each entry from the closest JR station and make sure you book online 2 days in advance to get the discount. I was not so organised and called up on the day for walk up ticket which was 3850 yen but very easy. The cafe is also great i enjoyed the orange gelato with amazing Views

Hiroshi Sugimoto’s genius has culminated in an incredible demonstration of his talent in architecture and art. Subtle movements in nature that often backdrop experience are framed and offer a perspective upon nature as art, and as fundamental to understanding beauty. A highly recommended, moving and thought provoking experience. To enjoy the entire exhibit, arrive on time as the grounds are extensive and a slow pace is desirable.

Choritsu Yugawara Museum is situated in the charming town of Yugawara and features a diverse collection of artworks. Visitors can explore pieces by artists who once had studios in Yugawara, as well as admire the works of contemporary artist Reiji Hiramatsu, known for his traditional Japanese painting style. The museum also offers a tranquil rest area overlooking a beautiful Japanese garden, providing seasonal views of blossoms and autumn foliage.

(Translated by Google) I wish I had known about this museum sooner! I like visiting museums, but I've found some that mainly exhibit works by Japanese artists, and I've found some that I'm satisfied with, but this is one of the museums that I've been quite satisfied with. The good places I've been to so far are the Yokoyama Taikan Museum, the Yayoi Museum, the Obuse Museum, and the Iwasaki Chihiro Museum, which I think have works by Japanese artists that I'm satisfied with. I didn't know that Hiramatsu Reiji painted Yugawara, and I didn't know that he even had an atelier, and I wish I had visited the museum when he was a student. There's a garden, a cafe, and the atelier is open to the public, and it's fun to see other old and new painters who are related to Hiramatsu and who are all creating great works. Photography of Hiramatsu Reiji's works was prohibited, but photography of the atelier and works by new painters was allowed, and they were also on sale at the cafe. First, I saw the garden, which was open to the public for free, and the atmosphere of the trees around the pond was really wonderful, and it was a space where I could stay forever. I had planned to take my time looking around the merchandise on the first floor, but I forgot about it after relaxing at the cafe and left. What a shame! I wish there were more of Hiramatsu Reiji's works on display. There are so many wonderful pieces, such as Mount Fuji of Small Flowers, so I would like to see those as the main permanent exhibit. I was also thrilled to see his studio. There were dolls on display from his visits to various countries, which made me feel enriched. The new exhibits were also good, and the works, which were made in a style similar to Hakone marquetry, were very unique and delicate, and the explanations of how they were made were very satisfying. I would like everyone to come here, not just think of it as a rural art museum, but as the one to visit when you come to Yugawara! The cafe was Jyuunian, which serves tofu dishes. There was also a foot bath. Even so, you can still get a sense of the full extent of the castle, which stretches from east to west. The castle has a simple structure, separated only by a horikiri and a cliff, and the ruins are difficult to discern due to the mountain path, but if you walk while looking around at both ends of the ridge, you can also make out the horikiri. The Toi clan was a powerful ruling family in the early Kamakura period, and there appear to be several ruins related to Minamoto no Yoritomo on this mountain. Nestled in the scenic landscapes of Japan, Shitodo no Iwaya is a captivating destination that combines natural beauty with rich historical significance. This hidden cave, once carved by ocean waves and now elevated due to geological shifts, served as a refuge for the legendary Minamoto no Yoritomo after his defeat in 1180. Visitors can explore this intriguing site while also enjoying nearby attractions like Fudo Falls, which cascades impressively at 15 meters.
This little gem is worth a visit if you are in the area. For those considering making the trip, the interpretive sign out front reads: "The Shitodo-no-iwaya Hidden Cave was carved into a rock by ocean waves. It was once at sea level, but the land has been uplifted by a large earthquake. After the Shogun Minamoto no Yorimoto was defeated in battle in 1180, he wandered the mountains of the Hakone area and id from his pursuers in Shitodo no iwaya. Today the entrance to the cave is small and the cave does not extend far into the mountain, yet at the time of the Shogun Minamoto no Yorimoto the cave was about 130m deep."

Lord Yoritomo, who fled from the battlefield of Ishibashiyama to Sugiyama in Toi Province, relied on Hakone Gongen, but returned to Toi Province (present-day Yugawara Town), relied on Sanpei Doi, set sail from Manazuru Rock Coast, and crossed to Awa to make a comeback. It is said that Minamoto no Yoritomo hid in the caves at this time, but there are two locations. This is located in the mountains of Toi-go Sugiyama (current Yugawara-machi blacksmith shop). It is also said that the seven masters and servants of Minamoto no Yoritomo, including Morinaga Adachi, Yoshimi Okazaki, Tadauji Shinkai, Munen Tsuchiya, Sanpei Doi, and Nobutsuna Tashiro, hid together with Minamoto no Yoritomo, and the story was later performed as a Noh play called ``The Seven Horsemen of Minamoto no Yoritomo.''

Jōganji Temple is a significant site where the Doi clan, who governed Yugawara in the Kamakura Period, are interred. It gained fame as the Bodhisattva Temple of the Doi clan, known for supporting Minamoto no Yoritomo. The temple features attractions such as the Seven Knights Hall and graves of historical figures like Sanehira and the Tsuchiya clan.

(Translated by Google) Starting from JR Yugawara Station in Kanagawa Prefecture at around 9:20 on a Saturday in late February, 16 friends and I enjoyed climbing Shiroyama (Toi Castle Ruins), which has an altitude of 563m. On the way, we first stopped at Joganji Temple, which is about a 10-minute walk from Yugawara Station. Jogan-ji Temple is a Soto sect (Zen sect) temple, and its main temple is similar to Eihei-ji Temple in Fukui Prefecture and Soji-ji Temple in Yokohama City. In addition, this Joganji Temple is said to be the family temple of the family of Doi Jiro Sanpei, who helped Minamoto no Yoritomo in establishing the Kamakura Shogunate. And the juniper, a nationally designated natural monument with an estimated age of 850 years and a height of 20m, was amazing. It is distinctive in that there is a twist of wood at the top in a spiral shape. This was impressive. This tree was hand-planted by Dohi Sanehira, the feudal lord, and has a history of watching over Minamoto no Yoritomo and Sanehira warlords as they marched to Kamakura to subjugate the Heike clan on August 23, 1180. What's more, this tree is the largest tree in Kanagawa Prefecture and was selected as one of Kanagawa's top 100 trees in 1984. There was also a stone on which Sanpei Doi was said to have sat. In 1920, the princes of the then Emperor Taisho, Emperor Showa (12 years old) and Prince Chichibu (11 years old), apparently visited this place to study history. Also, inside the temple, the pink plum blossoms were in full bloom and it was amazing!

(Translated by Google) It's close to the station, so the slope is steep, but I definitely recommend you go. It seems that Doi Sanetomo's mansion was located around here. The area around the town hall in Yugawara is called Johori. It seems that Doi Castle was located about 3.6 km away from here, but this was not the moat of that castle, and I think that it was not the moat of the Doi mansion, given its location. Has research progressed since the historical drama "The 13 Lords of the Kamakura"? There are more signboards that were put up in January this year. When you go up the stairs at the bright temple, the air suddenly becomes cool and clear, and the scent of flowers begins to drift. The chirps of the birds suddenly get louder, and behind the gate, a famous sacred tree stands majestically. It is obvious that this is a power spot, and I was fascinated by its appearance. On the left and right are Sanetomo's and Yoritomo's sitting stones, and behind them, the Shichikido Hall was built. There is a song about eight people boarding a fishing boat prepared by Sanetomo from the rocky coast of Manazuru to Awa Province, and Sanetomo's son being taken off the boat because eight people were not enough, and there was an explanation of the song on the monument. It was good that the son was safely rescued by Wada! That's why it's called Shichikido. There are various explanatory signs at the entrance to the Toi family graves, and in front of them it is written that Ino Tadataka also visited after measuring the map of Japan. The Toi family graves are located at the top of a flight of stairs. (Yoritomo's grave is about the same size as the graves of famous people in the Kamakura period!) The two in the middle are said to be those of Sanetomo and his wife. He became close with Yoshitsune and seems to have been less mentioned in historical records from around 1181. It is said that he went to Shikoku or Chugoku region, and his graves are found in various places. Tenshozan Shrine, established in 1931, is a hidden gem nestled within the serene mountains of Japan. The journey includes traversing narrow paths and enjoying stunning views along the way, including nearby Shiraun Falls.
