Aquarium

Museum
Enoshima Aquarium, situated near Katase Beach, is a Pacific Ocean and Sagami Bay-themed aquarium showcasing diverse marine life. The concept of the aquarium is centered around 'enjoy learning' and offers various programs including a touch pool for up-close encounters with creatures from Sagami Bay. One of its highlights is the 'Sagami Bay Zone,' featuring a large water tank where approximately 8,000 sardines swim.
One of the strategic places for family and kids, where you can spend a whole day excursion: explore and learn about sea creatures, followed by playing at the beach. Mount Fuji can be seen if the weather is nice. Sunset time on a clear day can be a relaxing yet mesmerizing moment to end the trip.
Edwina T — Google review
It was awesome! There's lots to do and see, the jellyfish display was probably my favorite...but there were 2 capybara. seaturtles and a place you could touch fish if that's your kind of thing. I loved the little teddy lottery they had, I think it was whales, dolphins or otter plushies you could win. Overall, it was amazing but very very busy. Perhaps because we went during summer of what I now know is a tourist town, but it was very busy.
Jasmine F — Google review
Our daughter loves aquariums so we’ve been to a few, in the US, Mexico, Vietnam, but this one in Enoshima was by far the prettiest. I don’t know how to describe it but each tank was spotless, all the fish and animals were well taken care of and happy, and the place was just sparkling clean, didn’t even smell like sea water, even though it sits right on the beach! Affordable parking, easy access, and just a wonderful, active day for the family. Easily spent 3hrs, could have spent an hour or longer! Plan accordingly.
Tak O — Google review
Super cool aquarium! Plenty of stuff to see. Only down side is that there wasn't a lot of English translations of signs. It would have been great to be able to actually read about some of the animals. They at least had the animal names in English.
Bilford W — Google review
This is a very nice aquarium with a wide variety of fish and other animals to view. It's a good event to experience with a group.
Jonathan M — Google review
A really large and beautiful aquarium with a large variety of things to look at and interact with. The surrounding area is so beautiful. It's one of the most beautiful aquariums that I have been to.
Jason R — Google review
Nice aquarium! Just a bit messy to navigate through. You can buy tickets on spot as well, has a stamp near the ticket station AND! Thrashcans infront of toilets 🤣 I really liked the jellyfish exhibit
Petra Z — Google review
Such an amazing experience with diverse fauna and the science behind protecting our environment and how the animals are cared for. The bonus was seeing the dolphin show!

Enoshima Shrine is a renowned mountaintop complex featuring three ancient shrines, picturesque grounds, and stunning panoramic views. Dedicated to Benzaiten, the goddess of wisdom and music, this Shinto shrine is among Japan's most famous. Located just a short walk from Katase-Enoshima Station, it includes Hetsunomiya with its octagonal pavilion enshrining Benzaiten.
We visited this Shrine and really liked it. The shrine has a nice atmosphere and beautiful views. It’s a peaceful place to explore while walking around Enoshima Island. I enjoyed the visit a lot!
Laloena A — Google review
It is a typical shrine as others. If you have spare time to kamakura, can spend an hour or two. Take the escar to the top.
Simon W — Google review
Enoshima Shrine – Hetsunomiya is a peaceful and beautiful spot on Enoshima Island. The walk up through the vibrant shops and red gates is really fun and colorful. The shrine itself is calm with lovely traditional architecture and a nice spiritual vibe. It’s a great place to take a break and enjoy some quiet time after exploring the busy island. Easy to reach from the station, and definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area!
Giftzy_nana — Google review
It’s a beautiful shrine with a long history and lots of interesting activities if you’re familiar with the culture. They also hold many small daily events. I bought a cute dragon omamori and noticed this shrine, like others on Enoshima island, has a sigil reminiscent of the Deathly Hallows!
Natasha M — Google review
Beautiful area with a lot of interesting stuff. The shrine is the first you encounter as you access the island through the bridge. From here you can climb up following the stairs or just pay a fee for the escalator. We took the stairs and it was a great experience. Overall we spent around 3 hours on the island and we got as far as we could at the entrance of the cave but we decided not to visit it as it did not seem worth it. We even met a small raccoon which was a welcomed surprise!
Alessandro B — Google review
This place is a nice temple, but the tourists are too noisy here. My trip started off with a lady cutting in front of me for the Esca tickets. I told her I was waiting and she just ignored me and walked forward to buy tickets. Not sure what the worker is there for. Then I made it up only to hear constant yelling from other tourists. It's just people trying to take photos everywhere. I tried to get some peace/quiet and went to the corner of the garden where there's a view. Ahh, nice. Then some guy with a camera thought I found something and came over and called his family over. I was done. It's more peaceful at a packed Starbucks. I wonder how bad it is at the top of the tower. If you want to come here, come either super early or really late.
Kenjiro Y — Google review
Hetsunomiya (辺津宮) — the first stop on the path up Enoshima. This shrine marks the entrance before climbing toward the Sea Candle. In summer, the sun can be strong, and walking all the way up without using the escalator is quite a challenge! You can take the escalator (paid) on the left after passing the Torii , or walk up the traditional way. The path is long and steep, so be prepared — if you’re not used to walking uphill, you might feel it in your legs by the end. (…or maybe I’m just getting old 😅)
Aho B — Google review
Definitely recommend visiting. Don’t take the escalators up if not in a hurry as the climb isn’t too long and it even has a few viewpoints that you might miss. Pay the 800Yen for the evening ticket if you think you might end up leaving at 5:01pm as otherwise you end up paying a thousand. Definitely go up to the non-glasses deck and try to witness the sunset even if not from the observation deck. The accompanying garden was majestic even in January.

Enoshima Sea Candle is a modern lighthouse and observatory built in 2003, offering stunning panoramic views of Sagami Bay. Located just off the coast west of Kamakura, this resort area features not only the iconic Enoshima Sea Candle but also beautiful gardens, the famous 'Love Bell' for couples seeking good luck, intriguing caves to explore, and several shrines collectively known as Enoshima Shrine.
Nice views overlooking the city and Mt. Fuji on a clear day. Grounds leading to the top were well-tended. P.s. The walk up isn't too bad, but if you aren't feeling it then just pay for the elevator. Do note that the elevator is only one-way so you'll still have to go down by the stairs.
Ethan — Google review
Beautiful view of the ocean and Mt. Fuji on clear days. The area is well maintained with a nice atmosphere. No long wait to enter, you go up by elevator and can walk down the stairs if you like. Definitely worth a visit.
Filip B — Google review
Rather cloudy when we went but nice views of nearby buildings and beautiful sunset. Saw a tiny glimpse of Mount Fuji haha. There is a floor that has glass windows and the floor above which has an outdoor area with some seating.
JX — Google review
I was there on a week day, please consider this when planning the visit. I assume there is significantly more demand during weekends. This tower is an absolute highlight of my Enoshima visit. I like high places, but this tower is more special. The elevator offers a good view already when bringing you up. At the top an excellent view and sitting possibilities await. One can also see the birds of prey flying around the island and follow them visually. The walk down was also a joy, but note that it is actually closed, so one needs to use the elevator to come down. In my case the door was open and since I can't read Japanese I went down the stairs only to discover a locked door at the bottom.
Walther X — Google review
The Enoshima Sea Candle is a must-visit if you’re in the area — especially at night. The illuminated tower becomes the centerpiece of a stunning light show that feels both peaceful and surreal. The view from the top offers a sweeping 360-degree panorama of the coastline, and on clear days you can even spot Mt. Fuji in the distance. Do note that access to the Sea Candle itself requires a separate ticket from the main Enoshima area. It’s well worth it, though, especially if you’re timing your visit for the evening light display. The wind at the top can be quite strong, so bring a jacket or dress warmly — especially in colder months. If you have extra time, make sure to stop by the Enoshima Aquarium below the island. It’s a surprisingly well-curated experience with engaging exhibits, including deep-sea creatures and jellyfish displays. Pairing the aquarium with a walk up to the Sea Candle makes for a great half-day adventure. Overall, the Sea Candle is one of those experiences that combines nature, design, and atmosphere in a way that leaves a lasting impression.
Dave W — Google review
Well worth the visit , unfortunately we missed the candle show a few days back but the views were still awesome. Would recommend sunset/night
Avalanche — Google review
Great day trip outside of Tokyo. Worth visiting the 'Sea Candle' and everything else it has to offer such as little cafe's, shops, underground cave networks, floral gardens, etc. Came here in early October, weather was great!
Daniel D — Google review
Good place to see the whole view of Enoshima. I went there near sunset, and it is still good even with many clouds. Definitely better when it's sunny. You can even walk down the lighthouse using the stairs. A great challenge especially at night.👍🏻 You can have the 1 Day Enoshima Pass ticket (which includes the Sea Candle) at the Escar ticket booth. A great deal for just around 1100 Yen. Also includes the Escar service and the caves.

Enoshima Samuel Cocking Garden is a historic Meiji-era garden that blends Japanese and Western influences, boasting a variety of seasonal blooms. Originally established by British merchant Samuel Cocking in 1862, the garden is now maintained by Fujisawa city. One of its main attractions is the renowned winter illumination event called The Jewel of Shonan, which features enchanting displays including winter tulips and a tunnel of Swarovski crystals.
Enoshima Samuel Cocking Garden is a fantastic spot to catch a beautiful sunset with stunning views of the coastline and Mt. Fuji. To reach the observatory park, you need to purchase a ticket, and there are paid escalators available to take you up to the observation tower. The view from the top is incredible, especially during sunset when the sky is filled with vibrant colors. The garden itself is peaceful, and it’s a great place to unwind and enjoy the scenery. Highly recommended for a relaxing visit!
Javed_mate — Google review
I think we missed the excellent night view of the garden. And there were not much flowers also this time. It is an organized nice garden with nighttime lighting.
Shahed S — Google review
Well worth the ticket for the garden and the sea candle. Sea candle offers fantastic views of the coast, especially if you go to the open air deck (which will be freezing in winter, so bring a coat and some heat packs) You’ll spend most of your time at the garden itself, which features fantastic viewing points of the coast, various restaurants, cafes, food stalls, and pubs. In winter there are spectacular light shows.
Christian — Google review
We went there for the lantern Festival and it was magical! The lights were amazing and although there was a lot of people we still managed to enjoy it!

A botanical garden located on Enoshima Island in Fujisawa, Kanagawa Prefecture. Established in 1880 by British merchant Samuel Cocking, the garden features a variety of tropical plants and seasonal flowers. Highlights include the Enoshima Sea Candle, a tall lookout tower offering panoramic views, and a restored 19th-century greenhouse housing tropical plants. It's a scenic and peaceful spot for nature lovers. 🌿🌸
Yang — Google review
I was there in the evening to take advantage of the Shonan light festival (10,000 candles) in there. I believe it runs until early November. It was really cool and nice to see. I really enjoyed my evening there. Just a reminder when you're buying tickets to enter. You'll need the same ticket to exit, so remember where you put and don't throw in the garbage after entering.
Db2 A — Google review
A great place to visit and definitely one of multiple excellent sights to see on Enoshima Island. It’s pretty big with a couple of cafes and nice seating to relax and take in the views. The flowers are beautiful and there are many different types. I would recommend paying the ¥1000 fee to use the escalators and it will give you access to other venues so it pays for itself.
RTrev3 — Google review
A surprisingly timid park at first if you visit in December, but it lights up and becomes a true LED wonderland at night. I highly recommend coming around 5PM when they have the countdown for the sea candle lights starting. It's a real spectacle.

Enoshima Island Spa, also known as Enospa, is a popular destination for tourists of all ages. It features attractions like traditional hot spring baths and indoor/outdoor pools with stunning views of Mount Fuji. Families can enjoy the Enoshima Aquarium along with the spa facilities. The gender-segregated hot spring baths and various pools make it an ideal spot for relaxation and rejuvenation while taking in the beautiful coastal scenery.
This was such a wonderful experience. My husband and I are on our fourth trip to Japan and we are staying in Enoshima. Since it's raining today, we decided to try this onsen and since it's a short walk from where we are staying. We got there around 11:30 and we had no wait at all. I only wanted to do the onsen while my husband got the package that included the onsen and the pool. My package was only for two hours and his was for the whole day. Two hours was more than enough. I was able to try all the different types of baths. My feet also feel and look completely revived. It was also mostly empty, probably due to the rain. At one point for a while, it was just us in the whole place. Unfortunately, we were unable to fully see the bay since it was pouring rain but it was quite calming to watch it through the window. We are halfway through our trip and this was the perfect midway boost.
Jan-Kristòf L — Google review
The onsen is so clean and the clientele is polite and nice, but the pools on the second and third floors, they take the cake. Instagram-worthy.
Mayflower T — Google review
The sunset, looking out into the ocean in a pool was beautiful. The staff was also helpful. However the facilities are definitely dated, from the pools to the changing rooms. There was a shower that was broken (literally the glass was shattered) so we opted to shower in the Onsen instead. The combination of dated, parts run down and a public pool made the place feel dirty. For example in the photos there’s supposed to be a waterfall and that wasn’t there but a safety tarp was by one of the pools. Looking up in the ceiling the details of the roofs was filthy. Top floor has music blasting, bottom floor had a cave like pool & the “waterfall” pool that did not work (with the safety tarp). I came on a weekday but I can imagine it being a bad experience if it’s super busy. Overall it’s not that bad, it’s still Japan and definitely cleaner than most other countries but not the nicest place I’ve been to.
ItsHelenKayy — Google review
I had a great time at Enoshima Island Spa. As an American, getting around was a bit challenging since most of the staff don’t speak English, but knowing a few Japanese words definitely helped. The spa itself is quite large, with multiple floors and both gendered and coed sections. The gendered areas are traditional — clothing is prohibited, and there are several onsen baths of varying temperatures, including a cold bath and a sauna. Everything was very clean and well maintained. The coed section requires swimsuits and has a variety of pools with different temperatures, offering a more relaxed and social atmosphere. The main reason I came was for the view, and it did not disappoint. From the onsen, you can watch the sunset over Mount Fuji, which is absolutely stunning — even better while soaking in the warm water. If you’re visiting Enoshima, I highly recommend stopping by during sunset or on a clear day, when you can catch a beautiful glimpse of Fuji-san. It’s a memorable and peaceful experience that’s well worth it.

Tattoos are not allowed. Please grow up and start living in the 21st century. I understand the history with Yakuza, but that is just not up to date anymore. Plenty of people have tattoos nowadays. It's discriminatory. Even the Japan Tourism Agency encourages to relax no-tattoo policies.
Jenny — Google review
I visited this spa with 19 overseas visitors without reservation. However, we have communicated through its webpage and it said it was not necessary to book in advance. When we visited there, a male clerk took care of us. His attitude towards us was extremely rude and we didn’t feel any hospitality at all. The facility itself was excellent and we could enjoy a lot. But what was really disappointing was his attitude.
Macky H — Google review
Came today to walk the island. We got hungry so came to the Spa restaurant to have lunch. They have a buffet and also a la carts menu. We had the tofu salad and this delicious seafood bouillabaisse. As well as surprisingly OK Japanese sparkling wine. And it’s not at all crowded! Surprise!!

When traveling from Shinjuku to Enoshima, the easiest way is to take the Odakyu Enoshima line and alight at Katase-Enoshima Station. Consider purchasing an Odakyu Enoshima-Kamakura Freepass before boarding a stylish Romance Car on this route.
This station should have been an attraction itself. For FFXIV players, it is giving Shisui of the Violet Tides vibes. The facade of the station is designed to look like the Dragon Palace, an opulent castle in the Urashima Taro folklore. There's a jellyfish tank that gives a preview to your visit to the Enoshima Aquarium nearby. If not, you can just get mesmerised by their elegance. Take a closer look at the details of the building and you will notice sculptures of dragons and sea creatures We didn't stay until nightfall for some dreamy feel. So what happened here? When we were about to return via romancecar, we were notified that there had been a 人身事故 and the romancecar service will be delayed for some time. Hence we have to find an alternate way home. My heart! 😢 I will return and I will take the romancecar one day!
Alvin L — Google review
Very nice station. The design is very unique and picture worthy. It is the terminus for the Odakyu Enoshima line, and the station is the closest one to Enoshima. They view coming out of the station is also very nice, and you could see enohshima as soon as you walk outside

Beautifully lit station at night. Restaurants and convenience stores next to it so you can relax while waiting. Took the Odakyu Romance car back to Shinjuku from here.

I arrived at Katase-Enoshima Station to visit Enoshima Island. I got the Eno-Pass, a 1-day "passport" that includes all the main attractions. The station isn't very big but is well-organized, making it easy to quickly understand where you are and how to get to your next destination. This made my journey smooth and hassle-free. I came back here in the afternoon to go back to Fujisawa Station.

Enoshima, a small Japanese island just off the coast and connected to the mainland by a bridge, is a popular tourist destination. It features the Enoshima Shrine, an English-style garden, and caves. The island also boasts an observation tower with a 360-degree panoramic view that includes sights like Mt. Fuji and Ohshima Island.
Nice island to visit. Suggest to go early and after visiting, seeing the sites and work your hunger, you arrive in time to try all the street food or restaurants the Enoshima proposes. I also early morning and on a beautiful day, more chances to see Mount Fuji like we did

A wonderful summer getaway spot for those living in or visiting Tokyo! It’s only a short train ride away, making it perfect for a day trip. One thing to watch out for is the weather—clear days give you the best experience and views. The island is full of delicious food options, and if you want to save energy, there’s even an escalator that takes you up toward the Sea Candle faster. With so many scenic spots and attractions scattered around the island, you can easily enjoy Enoshima from morning until night.

Eva L — Google review
A romantic day trip and awesome place to go chasing sunsets. I always make sure to take friends and family so that they can experience it. On the weekends, it gets quite busy but never too crowded to enjoy. The variety of people is also enjoyable.

Lovely little island: beautiful shrines, good cave experience, observation tower, beautiful candle garden, nice little shops….
Sari A — Google review
Had a brief afternoon visiting this beautiful island and it was so worth it! Totally came for the cats (as the island was acclaimed as a cat island) but there weren’t that many cats indeed. I still encountered like 8-9 kittens around the island and they were soooo cute/felt relaxed. I guess you couldn’t really look for them but instead let them bump into you. Anyway just having a walk around and enjoy the local seafood l was still enjoyable!

Ryuko-ji is a serene 14th-century Buddhist temple located in Kanagawa Prefecture, built on the former Tatsunokuchi Execution Ground. It features a remarkable five-story pagoda and main building, both recognized as top architectural pieces in the area. The temple holds historical significance as it marks the site where Nichiren, an outspoken critic of the Kamakura Shogunate, narrowly escaped execution.
i loved everything in this Buddhist sanctuary. its not only 14th Century Temple with all traditional items go along with it: Solemn and Mysterious Solemn Main Hall, Statues and holy items but absolutely remarkable Pagoda - hidden above in forest hills from where you can see Pacific Ocean and enjoy the moment of mind calmness and relaxation.

Beautiful old Buddhist temple not far from Enoshima station. The view from the top is absolutely stunning - one side you can see the sparkling ocean, the other side the city. On a clear day you can also get a great view of Fuji-san. There are different levels you can walk up to see the temple, pagoda, cemetery and large gold Buddha. Definitely worth a visit if you like temples and shrines.

Absolutely beautiful Nichiren temple with a pagoda and a statue of the Buddha donated from India. Buddhist monk and order founder Nichiren was to be put to death by the Kamakura shogunate when lightning saved him, and one of his disciples later build a temple on the spot in 1337. They do a fantastic bamboo lantern lightup the first weekend of August with over 5000 bamboo lanterns. It is conveniently located next to the bus stop and only a short walk from the monorail and Enoden Station.

Shinbayashi Park is a nature-rich city park located near Fujisawa Station, offering a picturesque setting with cedar and laurel trees. The park features Kawana Oike Pond, serving as a bird sanctuary where visitors can observe various wild birds, including the kingfisher. Additionally, an old house from the Edo period adds historical charm to the park's landscape. With hiking trails, playgrounds, and hidden observation points, it provides ample space for leisure activities.
Really cool park. Lots of space and great play area for kids. The old house is a nice feature, but favourite part is the picturesque walkway. Also recommend checking out the hidden away observation point which you can access by going up the big flight stairs into the playground area and then up the next flight of stairs into the hiking area.

Small museum but good performance. If you want to take a relax around Fujisawa and find something new Japanese experiences. Here’s highlights recommend. You can try your own printing with Japanese teacher in 5 minuets. Teacher can’t speak English but it’s easy to understand it. Inside museums have English sign . Very well for foreigners.

This is a fantastic little museum that tucked away in a building near Tsujido Station. It’s easy to miss and we passed it so many times our way to and from the station and the Terrace Mall. It was quiet, no wait, and no bells and whistles. It’s a simple setup and an interesting look into the history of ukiyo-e in the Fujisawa area, and along the its coastline. It’s small - we spent a solid hour here and felt good about it!

Fujisawa Station, located in Kanagawa Prefecture, is a convenient starting point for exploring the stunning coastline and historic sites of the area. Just an hour away from Shinjuku Station by the Odakyu Line, it's a great option for a day trip from central Tokyo. The Enoden Line provides easy access to nearby Kamakura and its major tourist spots. Additionally, there are bus lines connecting to the Enoden and JR Odakyu lines.
Perfect station to began your kamakura trip. The sun is particularly perfect around the area, like the station since it was busy but still charming at the same time.

Light spills across the city like laughter. Surfboards clatter on sidewalks; café doors open to sea wind. Fujisawa hums with youth and salt — a gateway to freedom where trains meet tides. Tourist Tip: Transfer to Enoden Line for Enoshima and Kamakura. Walk 20 min or take local tram to the beach. Great for sunset photos and seaside snacks.
Stray L — Google review
I traveled to Kamakura and used Fujisawa station as a connecting one, transferred from Tokkaido line to Enoshima line. Easy to navigate and travel. Not very busy nor crowded.
Lê K — Google review
Good transfer station for many lines in the Shōnan area, but that's about it. I had to use the information staff for help (for myself or others) more than a couple of times and they are just so rude and incompetent that it hurts. The older guy in his 50s or 60s especially has a mocking attitude and salty face towards children and senior citizens alike. The girl beside him smiles a lot but has the same bad attitude. I want him to quit already! It feels he's been there forever and forgot that his job is to help passengers. So ok, you don't want to help me, but what about lost items that are found at the station? Is it the unknown person's fault he/she dropped an umbrella, or a credit card? One time i found a credit card on the platform and tried giving it over at the information booth, and he said "we do not keep gifts for your friends"... What?!?! And proceed to close the window in my face? 🤡 So I hope that he loses his credit card on the platform and someone kicks it onto the train tracks! 🤮

I eventually came back here to get my train to Hiroshima in the evening.

Kamakura Hasedera is a historic Buddhist temple and garden complex dating back to the 8th century. It is renowned for its colossal wooden statue of the deity Kannon, standing over 9 meters tall, as well as a golden statue of Amida measuring 3 meters. The temple's grounds are adorned with numerous Jizo statues, known as protectors of travelers and unborn children.
Wonderful, peaceful and quiet temple. I especially liked sitting in the garden and listening to the gentle streams of water. I would recommend arriving early to avoid crowds as the location would lose its charm with more people . The entrance costs 400 yen and you can pay only with cash.
Gaurav R — Google review
Beautiful temple with amazing sea views and peaceful gardens. You can pay by card at machines (cashier is cash-only), and even the charms can be bought using a credit card — first time I’ve seen that! Inside there’s a small cave with tunnel-like passages and carvings — really unique and worth visiting. Come early in the morning before it gets crowded.
Julia P — Google review
I had a great time wandering around the temple in May this year. This was totally worth your time to nourish your mind and body with the beautiful zen garden, stunning Japanese architecture, and as a Buddhist, I am stunned by the large Buddha statue sitting in the main temple. I used to practice meditation but somehow lately have not been actively doing so, but there I could feel the steadiness and peace in the air flowing through my mind. Highly recommend this temple if you are going to Kamakura.
Cheryl L — Google review
This temple overall was a very nice place with gorgeous views. I was happy that they took credit card to gain entrance into the temple (note many places in Kamakura take only cash). I was a bit disappointed that there were so many places/vendors charging for everything once you entered. I never thought I’d have to pay for a prayer or blessing. It was nice to visit and experience.
Ayanna K — Google review
If Kamakura were a mixtape, Hasedera would be the “chill vibes only” track. Officially, it’s a Buddhist temple complex famous for its eleven-headed Kannon statue (yes, eleven...because apparently one head wasn’t enough). Unofficially, it’s a mash-up of zen gardens, koi ponds, bell towers & enough moss to make any landscaper cry with envy. The grounds include the 1000 Jizō statues, which look like a stone army politely waiting for instructions. Spoiler: they don’t move, but they do photograph like a dream. There’s also a cave with carvings if you want something moodier, and a terrace view that reminds you why the Japanese built things on hills. Helpful bit: it’s about a 5–10 minute walk from Hase Station on the Enoden line. Go early if you want quiet; go later if you want to test your patience with crowds. Either way, bring your camera & maybe a coin or two for the donation boxes. This place is serene, photogenic, and just spiritual enough that even atheists leave feeling oddly refreshed.
Jim R — Google review
This temple differs from others mainly because of the stunning location. Being able to see the sea is quite lovely. This temple has multiple different outdoor spots to discover. There are also picnic tables in the shade to cool off, and ice cream.
Rosalie C — Google review
We were they in May 2025. The temple is quiet and peaceful. I love the cute little monks statues there. Try to get there early then you will have the whole place to yourself.
Narumon E — Google review
This place was absolutely stunning and completely worth the entrance fee. Just a heads up,it’s cash only, so be sure to bring some with you. I adored this temple. The vibe was immaculate: peaceful, beautiful, and incredibly relaxing. One of the highlights is the gorgeous lookout point at the top, where you get a breathtaking view of the ocean. It’s such a calming place to pause and take it all in. Down below, there’s a small cave area with a tunnel you can walk through. I highly recommend doing that, it's a really cool experience and adds something unique to the visit. The entire area is beautifully maintained, with clean, immaculate grounds. If you’re visiting during the summer, bring an umbrella and some cooling spray because it does get hot. Still, even in the heat, this temple was a 10 out of 10 for me. Truly one of the most memorable and visually beautiful spots I’ve visited.

Kencho-ji is a vast Zen temple complex located in a peaceful setting with beautiful gardens and a trail that offers stunning views of Mt. Fuji. The temple boasts impressive wooden gates and features cultural treasures such as the Buddha of the Tibetan king, the 1000-handed Guanyin, and an ascetic statue of Sakya from Pakistan. The solemn atmosphere and noble architecture create a sense of reverence for visitors.
Love this temple. It has a nice route to walk the complex and if you are up for it you can climb the mountain to the observatory. It has a great view and on a clear day you can see Mt. Fuji.
Max M — Google review
Established in 1253 by regent Hōjō Tokiyori, Kenchō-ji is the first Zen monastery in Japan situated in Kamakura. Deep both spiritually and historically, this is Kamakura's first of the Five Great Zen Temples. The temple complex is roomy and peaceful with its classic Zen architecture, grand Sanmon (main gate), and beautifully landscaped garden built by Musō Soseki. Among the highlights are the monument of Jizō Bosatsu in the Butsuden (Buddha Hall) and the tranquil Zen garden behind the residence of the chief priest for introspection. Especially in autumn when the colors are amazing, Kenchō-ji offers a unique setting by blending seriousness with natural beauty. Since real Zen peace is less crowded than some Kyoto temples, it is ideal. Highly advised for those drawn to meditation, history, or simply a peaceful retreat.
Manpreet S — Google review
There's an entrance fee of 500¥, the complex is big enough that you can spend a good hour plus just walking around. Further in you an hike up for an amazing vantage point
Sadaf F — Google review
A great temple area that's connected to a series of trails that lead to a beautiful view! The climb to the top is about 15-20 minutes at a good pace and then the trail continues. The temple at the bottom is really beautiful and has multiple buildings to view and go into.
Claudio L — Google review
They don't tell you the Buddha hall is closed for renovations until you've paid. Construction everywhere, not remotely peaceful. (Aside from the giant building next door.) Don't waste your time.

Beautiful temples with a magnificent Japanese garden. The site is quite spread with many different temples. We can also hike for 15 minutes and have a view of the city of kamakura and the sea. Also, this temple is not as crowded as the others located in the city centre.

Beautiful even on a rainy day. There weren’t many buildings but each one was very interesting. There are seats gazing out the garden in the back and a trail up to a viewpoint. They say you could see Mount Fuji on a clear, sunny day. The entrance fee was 500yen.

Meigetsu-in, also known as 'Hydrangea Temple,' is a Rinzai Zen temple established in 1159. The temple boasts a large round window and beautiful hydrangeas on its grounds. It's conveniently located near other popular attractions in Kanagawa, such as Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine and Kotoku-in Temple.
Very sacred and very strict for non-photography area, because it's actually a shrine and there is garden inside. Even not allowed for pics in the restaurant. No blooming on August 12th 2025. Ticket is ¥500 and get a brochure. There is mini souvenir near to the shrine. Less people so it's good to enjoy and relax.
Patricia — Google review
Day of visit: 26-06-2025 at around 13:30 When I got there the flowers were just starting to wither, but there were still some to see. Probably because of that I did not have to wait for the ticket, and the flow of visitors was not crowded as usual. However, you still need to wait just a little bit to have nice photos without other people. Apart from the main path which is famous and usually crowded, there are smaller pathways on the side as well. If you are not someone who can beat the crowd or queue from early morning during the peak period, then I highly recommend visiting on a weekday in late June, just as I did.
Quỳnh L — Google review
Meigetsuin is mainly famous for the circular window view. The view in October is pretty but I believe it would be prettiest during autumn with the foliage turning red. There is a tiny bamboo grove too here.
Chhanda B — Google review
My purpose in visiting this temple was to see the hydrangeas during the rainy season. It’s within walking distance from a local station, and along the way you can enjoy the natural scenery. The only concern is that too many people were waiting for the round window (丸窓).
Cozcoz — Google review
Again overhyped. Nothing outstanding about the temple. There is entrance fee as well. The round window looks less majestic in reality.
Kingsuk S — Google review
The best temple in Kamakura with its own unique charm. Recommend to visit during flowering season when the hydrangeas are flowering and to visit the hidden garden. Its a bit out of the way but it was very tranquil. I really enjoyed it's unique figurines and statues. The garden behind the window of enlightenment was absolutely perfect & tranquil. With respect to the temple it's smaller compared to the other ones, but seemed to be better designed with points of interest along the way & especially with respect to crowd control and traffic flow.
Vignesh M — Google review
‘With flowers in hand and a quiet smile — even a stranger’s heart softens gently in that silent grace.’ This quote from the temple summarised it perfectly. It’s a temple with theme: bright moon 🌕, rabbits, and flowers.

bills Shichirigahama is a beachside diner located just 2 minutes away from Shichirigahama Station. This branch of the famous Sydney-based "bills" offers a delightful morning meal with its renowned scrambled eggs and ricotta pancakes, considered to be among the best in the world. The restaurant provides an ocean view from every seat, and on sunny days, guests can also enjoy terrace seating.
Gotta love the location and their ocean view patios. I had a reservation but wasn’t sure if that was required as I was told to stand in the queue to be accommodated. I was originally sat inside but was pleasantly moved to an outdoor seat when I requested it. Sadly it started raining soon after but the staff offered to move me to another dining area at a table right next to the window, which I thought was a really nice gesture and good service. Food was not cheap but overall it was still a nice experience!
PAUL C — Google review
The best thing about this place is it's perfect location right at the beach front, with a wide view of the ocean, its surrounding islands and the local life. But you have to get a balcony table for this. We had toast with omlette and their ricotta pancakes. The pancakes are soaked in butter and i didn't enjoy it. But the omlette was really good. Hot coffee is okay (nothing special) and cold coffee had a weird undertone flavour to it. Its really over priced for the quality of the food.
Anjali T — Google review
You pay for the location and the sea view. Food and drinks were expensive, portions were small and taste was average. It did not justify the price.
Taha H — Google review
Pricey. Long wait for food during off-time. Food comes out strangely too, as they brought our dessert out first. Other issues in translation and custom when asking for modifications and takeaway box, but not much to be done about that. There were some positives: the server proactively re-sat us at a larger table after seeing how much we ordered. Also, the Fuji and Enoshima views from the outdoor balcony are spectacular.
Omar ( — Google review
Good food. Good atmosphere. Good service. Staff were helpful. The only reason to give a 4 star when everything was good is because it took a long time to get my food. The others at my table finished eating and I still had not got my lunch. But the staff were very kind and attentive. So I cannot give service 4 stars. My burger was delicious and so was the fried chicken and fish curry. I liked the restaurant and the food and if I'm back in the area, I will visit again.
Dinyar G — Google review
Looking at their menu took me right back to Australia. I was expecting a nice Aussie-Japanese fusion cafe, but the food was just average and nothing exciting. My omelette, for instance, was overcooked. I think their highly tourists focus not enough on food.
Jerry D — Google review
Food was bland, nothing special. It was meh at best. Coffee was nice but not worth it for the price. Pancakes took ages to be served, nearly 30mins, i got the aussie breakfast which was okay. The food were pricey for what you get. Definitely not worth it of the price. We were just here because nothing else was open.
Bia N — Google review
This café seems to be quite popular on Instagram, with most people opting for outdoor seating. However, due to the cold weather, I chose to sit indoors. I ordered the famous ricotta pancake and the wagyu beef burger—both tasted good, and I liked the wine selection as well. The prices are slightly above average, but I found them reasonable given the quality. The only downside was that my seating area had a lot of food flies, which was a bit annoying. Overall, it's a nice spot for a meal, especially if you're after an Instagram-worthy experience, but the flies could be a huge turn-off.

Enoshima Iwaya Cave, consisting of the 152-meter Daiichi Iwaya and the 56-meter Daini Iwaya, was naturally sculpted by ocean waves. Once a site for Buddhist rituals, it now features stone statues, a small shrine, and historical exhibits. The mysterious ambiance is linked to the legend of the Dragon God. Visitors can stroll through with candles provided for an atmospheric experience.
Mystical, moody, and full of ocean whispers 🌊🕯️ Enoshima Iwaya Caves feel like stepping into an ancient legend. Carved by the sea and shaped by time, these caves are dimly lit, echoey, and dripping with mystery. You walk with a candle in hand, following narrow paths while waves crash just beyond the rocks — it’s eerie, exciting, and surprisingly peaceful. There’s a quiet spiritual vibe here, with statues tucked into the stone and the scent of sea spray in the air. Not just a cave – an experience. 🕯️ Candle-lit cave walk = main character moment 🌊 Epic ocean views right outside ✨ Great stop after exploring Enoshima Shrine or the Sea Candle
Steven D — Google review
Really cool! Interesting history and folklore; you are surrounded by natural beauty! Our 8 y.o. son enjoyed the experience and discovering the dragon’s lair! Crowds weren’t too bad for a Saturday in June. But be prepared for a lot of walking/hiking up and down steps. Give yourself the whole day to fully explore and see the sights. Lots of little snack shops and restaurants to try out for quick bites. We were too tired to hike to go see the lovers’ bell. Take your time and take breaks. We bought the tickets for the escalators going up-sooo worth it!
Blia Y — Google review
Interesting cave accessed by a coastal walkway with lovely views of the sea. Inside the cave the concrete path provides safe access, but somewhat detracts from the experience of being in a cave. But there's a lovely small shrine at the end with a great roaring demon (clap your hands loudly to make it roar - see my video attached to this review). You have to crouch sometimes, so tall people beware!
Alistair C — Google review
Enoshima Island is such a fun place to explore on foot. The walk around the island is full of small shops and food stalls, each offering something different to try — it’s easy to spend hours just wandering and snacking. The Enoshima Iwaya Caves were also a nice surprise and worth the visit. The mix of ocean views, local food, and relaxed seaside atmosphere makes it one of those spots that perfectly captures the charm of coastal Japan.
Christoph P — Google review
1. Sacred caves meant for prayer purposes in the old days 2. Be prepared for long flights of downward stairs from the shrine (hill top) to the cave. Going there is not tough, going back to the entrance of the island means long upwards flights of stairs which will be difficult for Elderly or those lack of stamina 3. Nice scenery and cooling tunnel of caves.
Vincent Y — Google review
It's a relatively small cave system with a 500 yen entrance fee. It's pretty chill, very nice and has a lot of history to it. The fun part is the stairs to get there!
Kevin T — Google review
I wish I read reviews before going! Only recommended for people with strong connection to the local religious beliefs and those who love walking down and back up steep stairs. The caves themselves have been excavated to the point of removing most of their interest. There are cultural/religious points of interest. Most non-Japanese people I heard say things like it wasn't worth it. I recommend going to the Candle tower (for the view) then making your way down the steps to the main street. Another hot tip - the local bus will save you a walk back into the main town at only ¥290 to the main station. A photo of the "pay off"! (My fellow Australians, honestly, it is not worth it!)
Megan B — Google review
You need to traverse about a dozen steep staircases to reach the cave. Some interesting sites to see, but it can get crowded. Would not recommend if you are claustrophobic. The ocean views are very nice though.

Nestled near the Zeniarai Benten Shrine, Sasuke Inari Shrine is a serene Shinto shrine with a rich folklore. According to legend, it was established by Minamoto no Yorimoto next to the Hidden Village of Kamakura after he received guidance in a dream. The shrine is famous for its striking red torii gates and features miniature stone shrines and moss-covered Inari statues. It is associated with personal success, particularly in one's career.
Delightful serene shrine focused on Inari. As such it is covered in thousands of tiny fox stateuttes. There is a small building selling amulets and goshuin. Echoing the much larger shrine in Kyoto Tori gates line a circular path up a hill. Certainly worth a visit if you are in the area. When we were there it was very peaceful and beautiful. There is a very small little cave to you can sit at contemplate.

The Statue is easy to reach from the railway station, maybe 15 Minutes Walk, including the short hill distance and some Steps (not to much). The Head is worth a stop from your railway journey. The Entrance fee is 300 Yen, you will throw in the donation Box at the entrance. And you can buy also Decent sticks (and more) at the statue. There is a automatic lighter direct by the sticks.

A very simple temple for the goddess of mercy. There's not much besides the statue but the way her face appears as you ascend the stairs alone makes it a perfect experience. You can enter this small colossus and leave a prayer. It takes some effort to reach the temple as the path is fairly steep.

Kannon or the Goddess of Mercy temple in Ofuna. The temple is across from the south side of Ofuna station. One can enter the place on google map and follow direction after walking down stairs from the station to below street. There is a up-slope pathway to the entrance. After paying visit fee, follow leading stairs to go up to the platform of the bust.

Beautiful area. Very large Kannon statue! Just outside of Ofuna station, there are a lot of uphill stairs to get here. Temple ground are very nice and the monk is friendly! I received a Goshuin here after prayer and donation.

A wonderful temple!!! Not very big but exquisitely well kept. Not very old but it has some beautiful monuments and also a few monuments to remember the A-Bombs being dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima. It was very peaceful and comfortable. A shrine and other rooms are located inside the goddess.

Cool area not a lot to see but a cool temple and some cool shops and stores around Ofuna. Worth a day trip, take the JR train to Ofuna then to Enoshima and make a nice day trip out if it, could even go to Kamakura on the way too.

On the way to kamakura, we can visit this ofuna kannon-ji, from station it’s just 5min walk to this shrine.. it’s very beautiful and detailed statue in top of small hill. We can relax or meditate at top of hill. Perfect weekend gateaway place from tokyo. Near by there’s one cave which I’ll recommend must to visit .

Breathtakingly beautiful. Clean, plenty of space to sit and relax. Plenty of bathrooms. People often go there to exercise - especially from the nearby schools - so it's a good place to go jogging, etc too :)

Super big park with grass area, park area, a small amusement park rides area and the "Jumbo Pool." Lots of parking but many surfers use this parking, too, so it could get full early on especially during the weekends and holidays. Events with food trucks happening almost every weekend (more during the warmer seasons). Great to bring kids and/or just chill. Lots of vending machines for drinks and lots of decent public restrooms.

Awesome place to spend a day with kids. Bikes are free to ride within the course; there's a section for little kids too. The little pedal-coaster was ok, tiring for adults but the kids enjoyed it. Since it's a paid ride, at least have the attendants wipe the handles after each riders to make it safer from the pandemic...

Nestled in the serene landscape of Kamakura, Kamakuragu is a small yet historically rich Shinto shrine that marks the site where Prince Morinaga was imprisoned in the 14th century. Often referred to as the 'Dish-breaking Shrine,' it attracts both local visitors and international tourists exploring nearby Kenchoji and Zuisenji Temples.
Nice temple with few interesting spots. You have turtle statue. If you pet him it is believed that your health could improve if am not wrong. It has red weird things as you could see on the photos and also the Torii was which is obviously rare for the temple.
Beyond B — Google review
This is a lovely small shrine but just one of many, with nothing to distinguish it, in particular, from so many others. There is an “altar”where you can make a donation and receive a tiny symbolic “sakazuki”or cup for drinking sake into which you can then blow your troubles, subsequently smashing the cup on a rock nearby, whence the god of dissolving troubles will relieve you of your burden. Make sure the cup is broken, though. If not, repeat until the cup actually breaks. Worth stopping in if you’re nearby but, unless you have a concern specific to the offerings of this shrine, hardly a destination worth seeking out.

It is very convenient to go by car (just used the expressway to avoid traffic). There are parking lots nearby and cost 2,000yen per day. There are toilets on the beach area and paid shower rooms (about 500yen). You can also rent parasol, body boards and floaters. The beach has great and big waves perfect for surfers. Surfing is allowed before 8:30am and after 5pm so people can enjoy swimming on the beach. There are nearby cafes, convenience stores and restaurants if you don’t want to bring food. Came here as a foreigner with a few of my friends. With the limited Japanese I knew, I approached the lifeguards to ask where we could get a beach tent to rent. To our surprise, they gave us one for free to use! That was the highlight of my day ! The atmosphere was warm and friendly. There are some restaurants on the beach that are good for drinks mainly lol. I'm not used to certain tastes of foods so it will take some getting used to. We had a great time and as Jamaicans, we are spoiled with our beaches but this was a good experience! Thank you once more to the lifeguards. Sorry I didn't get their names but we are so appreciative!

Nestled in the serene landscapes of Kamakura, Chokozan Myohon Temple is a remarkable 13th-century Buddhist sanctuary that invites visitors to explore its tranquil gardens and rich history. As one of Japan's oldest Nichiren temples, it stands alongside notable sites like Kuon-ji and Ikegami Honmon-ji. The journey to this ancient temple begins at the station, leading you through charming shrines before ascending into lush forests.
Myohonji Temple is located about a 10-minute walk from Kamakura Station, in a quiet, green area away from the main streets. Visitors can enjoy seasonal flowers in a peaceful, less crowded setting, making it a hidden gem among Kamakura’s temples. The temple is situated in the Hikigayatsu Valley, once home to Hiki Yoshikazu, a retainer of Minamoto no Yoritomo. In 1203, the Hiki clan was destroyed by the Hojo in a power struggle. Hiki’s youngest son, Yoshimoto, survived and became a follower of Nichiren, founding Myohonji Temple in 1260 on his family’s former estate.

Yugyo-ji, also known as Mt. Fujisawa or Seijokoji Temple, is a significant Buddhist temple with a rich history dating back to the Kamakura Period. Founded by Priest Ippen and designated as the headquarters of the Jishu Buddhism Sect, it holds cultural and religious importance. The temple town of Fujisawa developed around this site, becoming a vital posting station along the Tokaido Road during the Edo Period.

A very nice beach with the express train only an hour from Tokyo, ideal to escape the today so hot Tokyo. Sunbed and umbrella were affordable at 2500¥. Definitely get here before 11am, there are not many and the beach offers no shade otherwise. I was here during the week and there was little going on, which is probably different on Saturday and Sunday. The almost black beach with "golden" tinsel is very hot. Be sure to bring flip flops. I will be back👍👍👍👍👍

Pretty wide and big beach, water was not the clearest but it was doable, water temperature was very nice though, not too hot or too cold. You should bring parasol, sandals and such so that the sun and the sand not burning you, if you don’t have one you can rent them at the beach huts everywhere along the beach. You also need to use the restaurant’s or shop’s service (eating or drinking or resting) to have a shower. Sand was piping hot during peak summertime daytime, but I figure in other seasons it would not be, so you can take a nice troll along the shore during other seasons anytime of the day. Or in summer but after sunset, you get the idea.

(Translated by Google) This is a small municipal art museum located in a residential area. It's surrounded by greenery, giving you the feeling of being in a different world, but it's not that big. The exhibition focuses on works by artists and writers with ties to the region, so it may be more meaningful to visit for regional development or other purposes rather than to appreciate art. Maybe make it a theme for independent research for elementary and junior high school students. However, although it is small, the building has a good taste, and it does not give the impression of a run-down municipal art museum, so I think it is a good place to stop by on a walk, or before heading out to the beach.

(Translated by Google) I'd been planning to go to Chigasaki for a while 😃 and one of the most popular tourist spots was the Chigasaki Museum of Art 🎨, which I approached from a slightly faraway bus stop 🚏 😅 Of course, because of the heat and my natural lack of sense of direction, I ended up going in the opposite direction 😨 But I still couldn't give up, so I persevered and headed there 😌 It was in a lush park ⛲️ 😊 I wondered if this was really the place, so I looked for the sign and found the Chigasaki Museum of Art 🎨. There weren't any particularly eye-catching shops, but I did find a postcard of my favorite fox 🦊, so I bought one 🎵. I was very satisfied 😸 Inside the museum, there was an exhibition of the collection of Yoshida, who was close friends with Kitaoji Rosanjin 😄 He was also a talented artist, and he would paint lifelike pictures on boxes and store them in those boxes. It was a way to enjoy life in other ways, too. 😉 Upstairs there was a coffee shop ☕️. I took a break and ordered some Amaou macarons 😋. The vibrant pink color and not-too-sweet taste really relaxed me 🙆 (Original)

I was grateful for that. 💭💓 (However, I did leave for a while because I was worried I might be disturbing the view.) The architecture was amazing, and although I wasn't able to go at the time, the attached cafe looked lovely too.

Chigogafuchi Abyss is a renowned spot in Kanagawa, offering breathtaking views of Mt. Fuji and stunning sunsets. It's listed as one of the 50 Best Scenic Places in the area. Visitors can enjoy fishing or exploring the seashore on the rocky stretch when the weather is good. Accessible via a walking trail or a boat ride from Enoshima station, it's an ideal location to witness sunrise or sunset with Mount Fuji clearly visible.
It was a magnificent and comforting sight after all the climbing and walking. For the best experience, visit on a clear day to catch a glimpse of Mt. Fuji. Unfortunately, I couldn’t stay long enough to see the sunset.
Oh S — Google review
I found this gem through using Gemini and asking where we should go to watch the sunset in Enishosha - and WOW. This had to be the best experience of my entire trip and the best sunset ever. The walk there isn’t for the faint of hear but let me tell you; it is SO worth it. Absolutely unreal. It was so peaceful, serene as we watched the sunset over the water and with Mt Fuji in the background: I highly recommend anyone to go and you should get there at least an hour early to enjoy the time before it sets.

We visited Enoshima in November 2025. The abyss is on the opposite side of the bridge and it takes around 1 hour to go all the way from the bridge to the abyss. It seems there is also a boat directly from the bridge to the abyss, but when we were there the boat service was not working due to weather related reasons. The island of Enoshima is nice bad can be visited for around half a day, either before or after Kamakura. Be prepared to walk a lot and enjoy all the sightseeing in the island. If the weather is good, one can see the Fuji mountain as well.

Excellent area for a sunset! We had an amazing view of the sun going down with Mount Fuji clearly visible. It was awesome sitting by the oceanside watching people fishing, taking pictures, and watching crabs dart between the rocks. The caves below were also really cool, naturally carved by the waves. Definitely worth a walk through!

I felt really lucky that day because the weather was so clear I could see Mt. Fuji against a breathtaking sunset. It was a magical 20 minutes that I’ll remember for a long time. If you visit Kamakura, I recommend staying until sunset—or even booking a night nearby to really enjoy it.

What a stunning place to visit. There are temples and shrines. There are also cute restaurants, shops, and amazing views. There is an escalator to go up. Don't feel bad if you pay to use it. You will still get your steps in. A lot of steps. It's also where the 1964 Olympics were partially held at. It's said that a lot of cats live here. Well I saw 1 cat in a house. I saw so many beautiful hawks. Is that where the cats went?

One of a few shrines in the area. They have escalators that you can take to the top (charged) but I didn’t take them. It wasn’t that hard getting up there. But it’s a very nice shrine with a great view at the top. Check out this and the others if you’re in town. May be crowded around the new year time period.
Kelly J — Google review
Great shine and surrounding area. Lots of walking, so wear good shoes. Lots of stairs if you walk from caves to end of shopping street. Love bell and sea candle along the path from start to finish. You could spend all day here really. But we did everything at a relaxing pace and it took us around 4-5 hours maybe. Could be done quicker for sure. Good snacks and restaurants along the way too.
Caitlin M — Google review
Beach goers destination. The Shrine is just part of the tourist destination. There's aquarium, beach surfing and a small hill to climb to spend your 1 day trip breakaways. Now in mid May still rather nice weather coupled with sunshine and beach nothing is better than that of course not forgetting the fresh seafood Japanese style meals. From Japan is just a short 2 hours drive if not a train ride may save u the hassle of finding parking lot and traffic jam. Very Hawaiian of Japanese seaside.

Shonandai Cultural Center Children's Museum is an ideal destination for families seeking indoor activities during rainy days or outdoor exploration on nicer days. With a nostalgic 70's atmosphere, the facility showcases antique toys, instruments, and games from around the world that children of all ages can enjoy. Multiple stations cater to various interests, including a popular face painting station. The museum offers free parking for up to two hours, but it is unclear if charges apply thereafter.
If you're looking for a place to take the kids when it's raining this is the place! It would also be nice to explore the outside on nicer days. My kids could have stayed here all day. I have a 6, 3 and 1 year old. The facility had a 70's vibe with antique toys, instruments and games the kids could play with from around the world. There were multiple stations they could explore. The face painting station was also a hit among many others. It's definitely worth the drive! We were there for 2 hours and parking was free, not sure if they start charging after a certain amount of time. It's 300 yen per Adult and my 6 year old cost 100 yen. The others were free.

This is a science museum. It was built in the early days while Japan's economy was still booming. The architecture is quite impressive given the age of the building. It is still beautiful, and it's a place you can spend time with your children.

The visit to the museum was a lot of fun for us (even as adults). You should be prepared for the museum to be a bit noisy, but it was worth looking at the toys, clothes, books, and musical instruments. If you have children or are interested in these topics yourself, you should visit this museum if you are nearby. I was also able to see a sumikko gurashi movie there and I had a lot of fun.

Staff are helpful. There are clear indications for tickets, QR-codes for exhibits, and facilities are generally clean. Workshops and planetarium shows have good presentation. On weekends, holidays and during special times (mornings or just after opening) you’ll see more people. Still, even on busy days, many report you can move around and enjoy the exhibits without feeling overwhelmed. Parking can be full, so arriving early helps. Very reasonable. Entrance fees are about ¥300 for adults, ¥100 for children for the exhibition hall; planetarium costs more (¥500/¥200 for adult/child). Very convenient. ~5 minutes walk from Shonandai Station (Odakyu Enoshima Line / Sotetsu Izumino Line / Yokohama Blue Line) to east exit. Parking available (underground), and parking fees are partially waived/free for first 2 hours if showing museum ticket.
ハナさん — Google review
If you're planningto spend a ton of time here, you'll be disappointed. The exhibits on the bottom floor are easily tired of within an hour, with most of them either being basic toys or board games from around the globe, or simple science exhibits. The floor above hosts a computer lab with some learning games, and a host of T.V.s all playing childrens programming. We didn't go to the planetarium. All in all we spent approximately 2 hours inside and that was only so we felt like we got our money's worth, despite admission being quite inexpensive.

Be careful, as there are anatomical specimens (viewer discretion is advised) at the back of the exhibition room on the second floor. *Exhibitions on the second and third floors are only open on Thursdays and Saturdays. 2025/6/12

(Translated by Google) Although it was closed to the public due to the coronavirus pandemic, it will be open to the public again from Monday, April 3, 2020. However, advance reservations are required, and you must make a reservation using the web form 10 to 1 day before the tour, and then register at the gatehouse on the day of the tour to receive a tour badge. In addition, due to the recent situation regarding Nihon University, the security system on the campus where this museum is located is extremely strict, and even after visiting the museum, non-school personnel are not allowed to enter the cafeteria, shop, library, etc. on campus. Visiting is strictly prohibited.

(Translated by Google) On Sundays when the campus is open, the general public is allowed to enter without reservations, so I took a tour.I had seen skeletal specimens of elephants, giraffes, and lions at museums around the country, so I didn't have any particular impressions. It was a little surprising to see that there were skeletal specimens of dogs and cats in addition to domestic animals. Fortunately, there were a lot of people there. I might have felt a little sad if I was alone and looked at the bones of a cat. It's such a unique museum!

Nihon Heiwa You can get pretty close to the exhibits, and the explanations are written about the characteristics of the skeletons, so it's educational to be able to look at the actual items while looking at them. There were also specimens of living creatures collected in the area, and the explanations were very enthusiastic. I thought it would be very fun to compare the skeletons of apes with human models, even if they were just models.
