L'incontournable is a French restaurant with a small menu, which makes the dishes refined in taste. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the location in the heart of Aix-en-Provence with three bottles of roses in the fountain makes it special.
We had an absolutely amazing experience at L’incontournable! From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was welcoming and elegant, and the staff was incredibly attentive and professional throughout the entire evening. The food was nothing short of extraordinary. We ordered the sea bass, the lamb, and the daily special, a perfectly cooked salmon and each dish was beautifully presented and full of rich, balanced flavors. The quality of the ingredients and the care put into the preparation were evident in every bite. We also tried the dessert, which was equally impressive, refined, delicious, and the perfect way to end an exceptional meal. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a top-tier dining experience. We’ll definitely be returning!

A very nice restaurant in the heart of Aix-en-Provence, with outdoor seating and beautifully presented French or fusion dishes. The complimentary gazpacho was refreshing and delicious on a hot summer day, and I enjoyed it even as someone who is not a big fan of cold soups. The fish dish had typical Mediterranean flavors, whereas the beef dish was clearly influenced by Japanese cuisine, both very fresh and tasty. The side salad was great as well. Price is a bit higher compared to other restaurants nearby. Service was friendly but a bit slow as they get very busy in the evenings.

Excellence all around. So happy that we were able to celebrate my wife's 60th birthday here. The food was so good it begs for many returns. The staff was professional and very friendly. If in Aix, this is a must do restaurant
Drew S — Google review
This was on the list of must try for me. Went there without reservation at noon and was surprised it was not crowded. I took the suggestion of the day and it totally blew my mind!! The quality for that price was really amazing!! The staff were very friendly, quick and helpful with top service. I can totally recommend it!
Ekachai M — Google review
In the centre of town is an amazing market selling fresh local produce, pears, cheese, veg and meat. Given that excellence it’s strange not to find that quality in the restaurants. L’Incontournable was a surprise find. Located in a picturesque square north of the market its menu is diverse and inventive with dishes and wines that are both local and delicious.
Gee T — Google review
A great experience! I dined in the evening and the service was incredibly friendly, and I wasn't made to feel rushed at all, which isn't always the case for someone eating alone. The food was amazing and the location and atmosphere couldn't be beaten in the centre of Aix-en-Provence. Highly recommend.
Mark H — Google review
Food was excellent, really glad we came. Though it felt like the manager wasn’t too pleased that we only ordered mains and wine. Noted that there are limited choices in the menu.

Le Petit Verdot is a charming and cozy wine bar and restaurant located in the heart of Aix. The small, comfortable interior invites guests to relax and savor traditional Provencal cuisine paired with wines from its extensive list. The menu features hearty dishes rooted in Provencal flavors, with occasional nods to Italian influences. Guests can enjoy succulent meats like Camargue bull or braised leg of lamb, accompanied by wines mostly sourced from the South of France.
I saw this place down a sidestreet and was intrigued. The menu sounded authentic and the inside looked just as authentic. So I made a note to come back. I just had a fantastic meal. Local, authentic ingredients made with passion and care. All the staff, from the girls serving to the chef coming out to ask how was the food, to the wine recommendations, were superb. Left feeling very happy to have explored this gem on a sidestreet.

We stumbled upon this little gem of a restaurant in the charming alleys of Aix en Provence. We were blown away by the quality of the food served. We had the Artichokes with lemon and vinegar, and the Chicken stew and the Lamb Shank (cooked for hours 😋). It was by far the best chicken stew we’ve ever had. Every morsel of chicken thigh was lovingly seared and enrobed with the simplest yet most velvety of gravies that the chef clearly put his heart into creating. The lamb shank was fall off the bone delicious yet tasty and flavourful. The mains were artfully played with fresh and cooked vegetables on a bed of mashed potato. Dessert was well torched and caramelised creme brûlée which had a snap crack when tapped with a spoon. We were so happy to end off our meal with such a delicious Provençal meal for our last night in Aix en Provence. The restaurant far deserves a 5 and not the 4.4 listed.

We were recommended this spot by family, and it totally exceeded our expectations! It’s the cutest little authentic French restaurant with a thoughtfully curated menu. The food was absolutely delicious, and the staff were fantastic; they even helped us find local wines that matched our taste perfectly. Highly recommend if you’re after amazing food, a lovely atmosphere, and great drinks!
Alessandra T — Google review
We came across this place as we were walking but it had previously been suggested to us by ChatGPT so we recognized the name when we walked past and we are SO happy we gave it a go! Such a nice hidden gem. Food was amazing and service was even better. The Foie Gras with vanilla is a must try!! You wouldn’t think it would be good but it was exceptional. So glad we tried this place. And the class jazz music and the ambience perfect. Such a great chill evening dinner in Aix.
Jayne C — Google review
Unbelievable spot for dinner, a highly recommended spot for intimate, personal experience. The service from Matthieu was incredible from the moment we stepped inside the door. The explanation of drinks and food was highly commendable. The drinks and food came out incredibly quick for a 2 man show. I am so glad we stumbled upon this place and for the people we met inside. Do yourself a favour and not skip this spot!
Gerry B — Google review
Friendly staff and great wine selection, the pork (pata negra/ iberico) was very good, but the artichoke and chicken were just ok.
Jonathan L — Google review
Amazing truly French cuisine! Reasonably priced for the incredible offerings. We had the pâté, the onion and turnip tart followed by the duck in mushroom sauce. Really one of the best meals we’ve had in a long time. Aix is full of pizza and tapas locales, but if you want a truly French experience, this is a great choice!
Paul S — Google review
Had dinner at this restaurant tonight and loved it! The food was excellent with terrific service. The menu is not extensive but it is quintessentially Provence - food done well and with an unexpected twist. Lovely starters and main. I had the fish of the day that was a sea bass that was well done. I’d eat here again and again if I could. The service was superb. Warm and welcoming with spot on pairing of wine with the food. Highly recommend.

Nestled in the stylish passage Agard, La Fromagerie du Passage is a delightful haven for cheese lovers. While you can't sample all 600 varieties of French cheese here, you'll find an exquisite selection of around 20 handcrafted cheeses made by the acclaimed Laurent and Herve Mons, celebrated as Meilleurs Ouvriers de France. The knowledgeable staff passionately shares insights about each cheese's origin and texture while recommending perfect wine pairings to enhance your tasting experience.
Twice we have been during our stay and the wine and cheeses have been amazing, our waiter was extremely knowledgeable with our wines and spoke good English. Oh and the Honey with Truffle is to die for. Thank you very much.

Exquisite wine and cheese lunch. We ate upstairs which is simple and elegant. We had the 5 cheese plate (which you can select) and they were all superb. It comes with small salad, bread, breadsticks, honey and fruit preserve. Our young lady service us was professional friendly and very helpful. Unrushed and very relaxing - highly recommended. 10/10

Fantastic! Great experience, service and very good food! Place is neat and clean! The charcuterie board is delicious, great cheese variety and cold cuts. The honey truffle is out of this world. I got a burger and everything was excellent! Will definitely come back!
Poliana P — Google review
A real gem in the heart of Aix! We received a warm and friendly welcome, with excellent advice from Michael, the assistant, who guided us perfectly in our choice of wine and the cheese–charcuterie board. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. The shop is spotless and tastefully arranged, offering a superb selection of fine cheeses, wines, and spices. A place full of flavor and passion — and Michael was truly exceptional!
Meriem B — Google review
My husband and I each had a fantastic lunch there the other day. Emaline was a great waitress and spoke English very well. Do try the truffle honey everyone loves-it was delicious and we bought a little jar to go. Wish we didn’t live an ocean away. We would go every week I think.
Stephanie P — Google review
EDIT: tried the restaurant upstairs. The cheese platters are amazing and the truffle honey will absolutely blow your mind. The service is fast and friendly, and the atmosphere is terrific. *** Delicious cheese and meat platter, plus a selection of wines. It was a terrific way to experience a number of cheeses. The platter for two is quite big (we couldn’t finish it) and they’ll refill your bread when you ask. There’s also a restaurant upstairs if you prefer a sit-down experience.
Kahmen — Google review
For cheese lovers - one of my favourite restaurants in Aix - have been coming here for several years. Food, wine and service consistently excellent. Good vegetarian options available. Good for a meal (group or couple), or for cheese and charcuterie platters with wine.
Sheila M — Google review
Loved this place ! The atmosphere was really nice, the raclette was big enough for 2 people for sure but I didn't really like the accompanied cold cuts to be honest. We also shared a Caesar's salad , which was nice with a generous portion of grilled chicken. We tried 2 different white whines, one from Aix and another French. The stuff was kind. I recommend booking a table before going, cause a lot of times that I have passed outside it seems a bit crowded, however when we went there it wasn't. I will definitely visit again.

Drôle d'Endroit is a casual restaurant with a bohemian atmosphere, located in an unusual spot down a narrow alley. The interior features industrial bare walls adorned with art exhibitions and an eclectic mix of seating arrangements. The menu offers homestyle meals made with carefully sourced produce, including tasty salads, meat and fish dishes with flavorful sauces influenced by local food as well as North African and Asian cuisines.
My grandmother and I had an exceptional meal at Drôle d’Endroit. The hidden alleyway made my grandmother slightly weary at first until she realized it is all part of its charm, on top of the funky decor! The food was creative, full of variety, made with fresh ingredients, all served with a beautiful presentation. Our server, Nico was very warm and thoughtful - and a talented photographer as well (his art was exhibited in the restaurant). This restaurant is a true treasure, one of a kind in Aix! Ps. Very veggie friendly if you are a fellow non meat eater x Pps. Extremely well priced/ good value. We left full and satisfied.
Lucie A — Google review
A really interesting menu, influenced by local food and North Africa and Asia. The space is open and modern. Service is amazing. Staff walk each diner through the menu, which is on a blackboard. That was helpful because many of the dishes are exotic creations. Some feature Thai-style curry, but with a local flair. There are a few interesting vegetarian options too. I chose the crab and beetroot "tiramisu" to start. I was very good, but rich because of the cream. The slow cooked lamb, for the main, was spectacular. Tender and delicious and the sauce burst with intense, concentrated flavor. Great choice for a taste of the region.
Greg S — Google review
a charming restaurant hidden in an unassuming alley. menu changes frequently. we got the chorizo creme brûlée and lamb to share. enjoyed both! creme brûlée was the perfect blend of savory and sweet, very memorable and definitely the star of the night. we loved how the menu is brought around to each table. staff was also extremely helpful with translating!
Ct — Google review
The food is correct. They change the menu daily. The entries were nice:burratina, gratin and chevre. My plate needed salt and pepper. The main: “agneau” - ok, “pintade” - good but a little but fade, vegetables - ok. The dessert: soup - surprising, clafoutis - low sugar, ok for me. We took a “carafe” of red wine. Correct. The place is small and live. We shared a long table with many people and it was pleasant.
Marius B — Google review
This was really my type of restaurant. Serious food with an unpretentious atmosphere. The whole staff was extremely accommodating and attentive, and everything we had tasted excellent. The price also can't be beat, being significantly less than restaurants with similar fare. Highly recommended!
Nicholas K — Google review
Food was good but a bit overpriced for what it was. Ordered 2 cocktails, a fish terrine, zucchini tartare and the vegetable plate and spent $150 CAD. Nothing was bad just weird food combinations, service was good, and friendly to translate to English. They also charged us $13 EURO for a bottle of tap water, which we thought was insane!
Lacey S — Google review
Absolutely amazing food, came from a recommendation from a local on the plane. A great atmosphere, lovely staff, and the food is incredibly tasty! We had the tub and the lamb, both were unreal!
James S — Google review
Cool bohemian restaurant with a great vibe. Don’t be put off by the very unprepossessing, dark and isolated side street location just off a main street. Staff are great and very helpful to non native French speakers. The menu changes daily according to availability of produce which is wonderful. Really fun experience. Attempts to veer experimentally with dishes sometimes misses the mark.

"Il Etait une Fois" is a chic and understated eatery located near the Cours Mirabeau in Aix. It offers seasonal menus featuring refined meat and fish dishes, as well as set lunches. The restaurant is known for its small but delicious selection of upscale French classics, such as crusted lobster with feta and coriander, squash samosas, homemade goose pate, and roasted veal giblets with gouda-cauliflower and black truffle.
A delightful experience! We had the tasting menu and it was delicious. The menu is creative and plated beautifully. The chef did an amazing job of using seasonal ingredients throughout each course. The wine menu was excellent. The servers were very helpful and attentive as well.

Original flavours and great service. You can tell that the chef seeks out quality products. Friendly and accommodating service in the old city of Aix en Provence. The tasting menu was delicious and great wine too. Loved the asparagus panna cotta with aged compte starter and the mango tartelette dessert. Hope to come back soon !
La D — Google review
We had a memorable dinner at Il Était Une Fois, where every detail felt thoughtfully orchestrated - from the ambiance to the plating. The evening began with lavender gin and tonics, delicately fragrant and just the right amount of floral. A small pastry with olive tapenade served as the amuse-bouche - simple and savory, a perfect nod to the region. We shared the asparagus velouté to start, which was light yet velvety, fresh and spring-like in flavor. For mains, I chose the fish - cooked to perfection with a balance that felt effortless. Nigel’s lamb was hearty and deeply satisfying, evoking the richness of a stew simmered all day. Tasting both together was a revelation. Dessert was a Mille-feuille, impossibly crisp and creamy. We paired the meal with a lovely Burgundy rosé that held its own across courses. The only misstep was ours… We poured the wine ourselves early on, unintentionally signaling the waiter to step back from service. He obliged, perhaps a touch too much. We hope to redeem ourselves on our return visit this weekend with a friend. The ambiance was exactly what we hoped for: cozy, quiet, and intimate. A perfect evening, and a new favorite in Aix!

Good food, at a reasonable price for the quality. It's clearly a well-run good quality restaurant. Highlight was the fried foie gras

Exceptional experience! We had lunch here and both the food and the service were fantastic. We were also grateful as we were very delayed due to a car problem but the team was kind enough to hold our booking. Every dish was perfectly balanced, a flavour bomb and just the right amount. Also my companions raved about it from start to finish. My personal highlight was the fish of the day with polenta and kumquat jelly - such a unique combo that delivered! The millefeuille was also to die for. Overall 10/10!
Florina V — Google review
Superb meal, exciting food and flavours beautifully presented and expertly served by professional, knowledgeable friendly staff. My vegetarian starter of "L'oeuf parfait" was just that, perfect! So delicious and creative: poached egg in a potato and sage mouseline, crispy baby corn, it really was pure pleasure to the palet. My mushroom Risoto was also exciting and served with a saboyon which added a sour element to the overall taste. The duck was superb. My desert of Ile Flotante rekindled childhood memories of this French classic was served, as it should, with the most delicious crème Anglaise and toasted Pecan nuts. The Mirabelle tarte was equally delicious with its crumbly case of pate sablée and crème pâtissier. An absolute must, please reserve, prices are very reasonable too. I understand from reading the excellent and deserved reviews that the menu changes regularly which makes the place all the more exciting. A true find. Highly recommended. Top marks.

We walked in and was fortunate to secure a table for 5. Had their set lunch of entree and main. The entree of perfect egg in a creamy soup and cured fish was excellent. Our mains were salmon and pork with sides. All the dishes were excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch.

Le Môme is a highly praised restaurant located in Venelles, just 20 minutes away from Aix-en-Provence. It offers delicious and generous Corsican cuisine, making it a favorite among locals and visitors alike. The cozy space exudes charm and is tucked away in the charming Old Town of Aix, creating an intimate dining experience. With its contemporary interior and beautiful terraces, Le Môme provides a warm welcome to all guests.
The food was excellent! I don’t have a picture but the gnocchi was the best thing I’ve eaten in a very long time. Soft, pillowy. Perfectly stuffed (have never had it stuffed before). Squash blossoms and steak were excellent as well. The service was great and the atmosphere was calm and relaxing. We drove up right before sunset and it was so beautiful. Truly a perfect meal.

Make a booking, if it’s going to be a nice day, suggest requesting a table outdoors. Fab food, generous servings. My husband and I went for lunch and shared a charcuterie and cheese platter, we had to take leftovers home as we couldn’t finish our main meal. Lunch is fab, good service and atmosphere. You won’t be disappointed if you go here!

Super restaurant, acceuil, atmosphere and food. We came recently and all the staff were really lovely, helpful, the food delicious and fresh, we even got a daury free dessert for my husband. Don't hesitate, we will be back. Thank you so much, we had a wonderful night.

One of my absolute favourite places when I’m back in the Aix-en-Pce, the food is always incredible, staff is lovely, the cocktails are amazing, and definitely go for the Corsican wine!
Mathilde M — Google review
Disappointing overall experience. The food was hit and miss: the burrata was fine but lacked the creaminess you’d expect, and the chicken my husband ordered was dry, paired with a bland green purée that didn’t add much. Dessert was decent, but nothing memorable. What really brought the experience down was the nearly one-hour wait between our starter and main course, especially since our order wasn’t particularly complex. The waiter was friendly, but didn’t acknowledge the delay or the underwhelming dishes. Perhaps we caught them on an off day, but sadly, it didn’t live up to expectations. Response Edit: Thank you for taking the time to respond. We did actually mention both the long delay between courses and the issue with the chicken dish during our visit. While the waiter expressed that he was sorry to hear this, unfortunately it didn’t change much in terms of our overall dining experience.

Vintrépide is a hidden gem of a restaurant tucked away in the narrow backstreets, offering an excellent dining experience for those who appreciate good wine and food. The modern decor and impressive wine cellar set the stage for a menu that changes every two weeks, featuring dishes crafted with excellent produce sourced from local producers. Chef William Aubert's creations include pure-bred Bigorre pork, Aubrac beef, and vegetables from Aix's renowned market.
Food is very good. Beautifully presented and all unique flavours. It felt like a good bridge between traditional and modern French style food. The menu is a little limited but we went as a large group and got the set menu with 4 courses. It included an amuse bouche, starter, fish course, meat course and dessert, all of which were fantastic and very good portion sizes. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. My only negative is that the restaurant is quite quiet, no obvious music playing and it is very hot inside in the evening.
Francesca — Google review
Really wanted to like this restaurant, but I don't think the food or wine were up to expectations on the occasion we visited. I asked for a medium-bodied red and was given a bold Bordeaux. Entrees were decent (one was a little undersalted), but mains just lacked polish. The bread did not live up expectations of a true French restaurant. Overall one of the weaker meals we've had in France.

High expectations for this cute little restaurant with maybe 8 tables. It has an amazing and diverse wine list. A la-carte and prix-fix menu. We chose 2 entees and 2 plats. Asparagus and Tuna entrees were very good. Both main dishes were not. Duck was too tough and "lamb Wellington" was too dry and needed more jus. At the end we were overcharged for drinks we didn't have - this shouldn't happen at a restaurant this small. Go elsewhere 😞

I have been passing by this place for years telling myself I should try it one day, and I finally did. Fresh food, amazing wine pairing and great service. I had Rolle and Ugni white wine from Provence with girolle mushrooms, Roussane and Cinsault light red wine from Roussillon with monkfish, and dry Gewürtraminer from Alsace with cheese. A real feast. The restaurant name is a perfect match to the experience with a wine selection out of the beaten path but without being too experimental. And an excellent ratio quality/price (the generous glasses are 9 € a piece). Vintrepide, Aix-en-Provence, France

My wife and I had a wonderful lunch at this charming restaurant that is away from the touristy area, in fact of all the patrons we were the only non-French speaking. Our server was nice and was helpful with the menu as it was in French. My wife opted for the full menu of the day which consisted of a appetizer that had a great tasting fish called mullet that we had never tried before, a very tender and flavorful beef with scalped potatoes, and a fig dessert. I had the shrimp and avocado starter which had a little too much citrus for my taste, followed by Iberian pork with vegetables and a grain that I think was faro all which were seasoned and cooked very well, and finished with an excellent assortment of cheeses. The wine list had a wide selection and we went with a 2019 from the Chateauneaf du Pape that we enjoyed.

Les Vieilles Canailles is a cozy wine bar with a passionate chef who sources the best local ingredients for dishes like roasted octopus salad and succulent lamb. The wine selection focuses on small natural and biodynamic producers from all over France. The menu changes frequently based on seasons, weather, and daily catches. The bistro offers traditional French cuisine in a warm and welcoming atmosphere, where the team takes pleasure in describing each dish in detail.
What an amazing find. We read about this in Le Fooding, and it did not disappoint. 7.30 sharp seating, fabulous theatre from Frederico, who really knew the wines and dishes, starting a bi-lingual detailed description. Amazing food, very different wines with each course, and despite being out by 9.30 for a second service we did not feel rushed at any stage. Definitely one to go to!

An absolute highlight of our visit to Aix. A tiny spot and a French owner with a huge personality and fantastic taste in wines. From the bone marrow to the mains (paired with Domaine Overnoy’s Savagnin 2022) to the French dessert cheese and Paris Brest (paired with the incredible Les Grains des Compains Jurancon 2022), the food was all beautifully done. Definitely reserve in advance as there are only two seatings per evening— probably the earlier one as we ran over as well. Don’t miss this gem!

You have to go to this restaurant when in Aix. It’s truly one of a kind. The chef is very entertaining, the vibe and the atmosphere amazing and the food - outstanding. Very well balanced! Also have yourself another glass of wine per course.

On a day trip from Marseille to Aix, we were looking around for a place to eat, after numerous menus, with nothing particularly standing out, we came across this place. Luckily were able to book which turned out to be the last table for lunch. The restaurant is small, and everyone packed close, but that is part of the ambiance. Great service from the owner and staff, and fantastic local dishes. The wine list is extensive and full of quality, and the owner doesn't force you into expensive choices , but recommends 3 or 4 mid priced bottles. The whole experience was top notch, and we will cetainly go back.

We fully enjoyed the dinning experience - an intimate, energetic and positive vibe! The owner introduced what they had for the night and we chose two entrees, two main courses, and a dessert. Before the meal, he let us know what wines he had to pair with the dinner and he also has a very wide range of other wines you can choose from. The dinner has two sections - one at 7:30 and another at 9:30. There are only about 20 seats so it’s best to book ahead of time. Ouf of the courses we ordered, we love the beef tongue main course the most - it’s a creative way to pair the beef tongue with olive, mushroom and cucumber. They blended perfectly. The owner, I think he’s name is Frank, was super passionate about food and wine. We absolutely love his energy!

My favorite meal in France. The service was outstanding. Each dish was clearly prepared with such thoughtfulness and care. It was intimate and friendly. Cannot recommend enough.

If I could give this a 6* rating I would - it's an experience like no other! First thing to note is that it is a very small restaurant (I think I counted 22 covers) and they do two sittings so booking is essential. The food is delicious and well presented with a MASSIVE wine list - they will happily recommend what to drink with your food and they got ours spot on. The main event is FRED - he is flamboyant and the star of the show, describing the menu in great detail to the whole restaurant in what can only be described as 'live theatre'. Thankfully, he also speaks great English so helped my wife and I out afterwards as we were having throwbacks to struggling in school French exams! If you only go to one restaurant in Aix - make it this one! It is truly memorable and like no other.

We had a beautiful outdoor lunch at Gaodina in August and it was one of the highlights of our trip. Farinoman Fou Aix is a renowned bakery located in Aix-en-Provence, France. Known for its exceptional bread varieties, including baguettes, pain du coin, olive breads, and fruit and nut-studded loaves, this bakery stands out among the many options in the region. Despite the abundance of bakeries in Aix-en-Provence, Farinoman Fou is highly recommended by locals and visitors alike.
The moment you enter the shop you are confronted with the most amazing smell of a large variety of warm breads. Everything we bought tasted divine. The olive and cheddar roll was perfection.
Braden H — Google review
Bread is decent. I personally don't think evokes the French standard but the bread isn't bad or anything. Just not what I've gotten in other cities. For Aix, it's probably a good bet but I'm not as impressed like others. I've had way way better bread in other cities. One this doesn't have the total feel in the baguettes, it's way too soft and chewy on the inside not aerated, this guy is maybe quebecoise but it's no where near the superb qualities of true French bread (not that French bread is say on par with German einkorn or anything but still).....
A B — Google review
Best bread I've ever tried. Try the one with olives and the multicereal.

I heard about this Quebecois who was crazy enough to open a bakery in Aix-en-Provence. I had to try it. I bought the olive bread and it was heaven. I ate the entire loaf myself while walking around town. I wish I had the time and appetite to try more.

Exceptional bread, though expensive. The variety of breads, flours, ingredients is quite impressive. I find this to be the best bakery in Aix en Provence. Having said that, it is quite expensive, hence the “value for money” is not great.

Such an amazing bakery in the middle of the city. You're bound to walk away with more than what you need as there are so many things to try. They have sweet, to savory to your basic bread goods.

Whether you choose to sit on the lively terrace or inside amidst chandeliers, ornate mirrors, and vintage decor, you can savor the local flair while enjoying a perfectly balanced espresso or sipping chilled white wine.
A very quirky French café and brasserie with a very, very long history. The prices are excellent 👌 and I recommend the Baignat or the Croque Monsieur/ Madame! The mannerisms of some of the waiters is just funny and tbh quirky. Don't believe half the stuff you read re: reviews. If you want to take pictures inside (particularly Les cigales ceramique!) and the interior- you should ask permission, they told me that people usually don't. One for the entomologists for sure!! A busy place on the corner of the Cours Mirabeau but great service, really good food - plat du jour salade gourmand and merguez couscous then very good desserts. A lively atmosphere - quintessentially French - and lovely decor.

Pretty authentic French bar. Orders are shouted by the servers to the kitchen the old school way. The whole place will know what you are ordering at your table The service was good specially that Le Grillon was pretty packed and people waiting for tables.

Stay away…The food and drinks were horrible. Pina Colada tasted like sink water. Asked to get something else and was told I had to still pay for the drink. The Bacon on the Club Sandwich was grey and eggs were green. Couldn’t eat it. The rest of the food didn’t have much taste. Decided to cut our losses and left. Wish I would have read the reviews… my bad.
Keith F — Google review
If you’ve had good food before, you’ll know the food here is bland, tasteless, and does not live up to French standard. Even the salt wasn’t salty. The silverware was not clean. I went through three since the first two had food remnants on them (see napkin in picture). There was also a piece of foil baked into my mozzarella that I bit into (see plate in picture). If it wasn’t for the fact that we were turned away from three different restaurants for not having reservations and having been very hungry from traveling all day, we wouldn’t have eaten here. The power also went out but that is normal. Lovely location. If you want edible, this is your choice. Or maybe for a quick drink?

The restaurants located on Cours Mirabeau are not just the places to eat but are the representation of what Aix en Provence provide as an culinary experience. One will expect the same with such a quality experience. This was not the case when I visited the Bar Le Grillon. We just had the café Gourmand and tarte de pomme. It was not at all tasty. Not fresh, not well prepared and not well presented.

Château La Coste is a futuristic wine producer that offers more than just tastings. It's a place where you can immerse yourself in the world of modern art while enjoying delicious dining options at the café. The summer program at Château La Coste includes musical evenings, cinema nights, and concert events set amidst the beautiful vineyards.
We spent the afternoon exploring the grounds and art and then enjoyed a meal and wine at the Terrace. What a special experience!! Give yourself time to really explore, the staff said 2-2.5 hours of walk and they were not wrong. Wear comfortable shoes! The art is extremely well curated and engaging. We ate the Terrace afterwards and had a wonderful time! Live music, delicious, food and refreshing wine!

We had an incredible tour with Guillaume yesterday. He showed us around the winery and then led a tasting - he was extremely knowledgable, passionate and enthusiastic about wine. He answered all of our questions and taught us so much about the entire process. What an excellent tour guide, if you can book with him, then do! The grounds and restaurant were also absolutely stunning. A 10/10 day and must do in the area!

Magnificent and so poetic. It reminded me of the open-air museums you can find in the Hudson Valley (north of New York), except even better. Thank you for bringing this concept to France, thank you for letting people have their own journey. Also love that signage is brought to its minimum, this is how art should be experienced. <3

We stayed at Auberge La Coste in October. It was a transformational experience. It’s maybe the most gorgeous of properties not even considering the accommodations. Great visit to Chateau La Coste. Outside walking path of 2-3 hours with grandiose art installations and stunning views. It can get a bit steep but otherwise a comfortable hike. Enjoyed a small lunch on their terrace and a small visit to their wine shop. Highly recommend a visit!
Niels R — Google review
Okay, so there is a disconnect here for me... The spaces are magnificent, they setting pastoral and charming, the architecture modern and somewhat brutalist, and staff extremely kind and knowledgeable. Where there is an issue is the art, the "art-tour" through the grounds, amd how they orchestrate the way in which you view the art, and the absolute lack of basic amenities such as available water, toilette, and basic safety items for guests. The art for the most part left me wanting more, and more of it. The Richard Serra "sculpture" I would say is am insult to hardworking metal and steel tradesmen around the world; overly simplistic and poorly placed. The Foxes by Michael Stipe were very nice, inviting and well placed, well done. The Liam Gillick "Multiplied Resistance Screened" was a lovely addition to his body of work and very inviting and situated perfectly. The shining star for me was the Tadao Ando "Pavillion of Four Cubes..." exterior was stark and brave, the entrance creepy and inviting, the darkness of the path to the interior of 4 illuminated cubes resting inside was sublime. So welll thought out and put into action. LOVELY The Prune Nourry " Mater Earth" was as expected; beautiful and large, and appropriately placed. The Frank Gehry Pavillion was very nicely done, comfortable audience seats in a natural setting, and looks like it has great acoustics for performances, but in a weird way it seemed out of place to me, but i saw it in the daylight, nighttime may have an entirely different effect. Now to some sore points. As a museum and installation fan, I am accustomed to different places and configurations for display spaces. This layout took it to another level. Spread over many acres, on trails that for some would be difficult or impossible to traverse. Couple this with the lack of ANY drinking water, at any point on the entire trail system, coupled with NO bathroom facilities save for those in the main building, these things seemed to scream a lack of respect for the customer who has paid a fee to do the long, and for 7+ months a year, HOT trail walk. I was told I could purchase a 19 Euro glass Damian Hirst water bottle at the shop and fill it up for my walk...my how generous of Lacoste! As someone who has lived part time in France for many years, would recommend this place for a visit, but I myself would not return with them for the visit. Very disappointing, because it seems as though ABSOLUTE creature comforts, and frankly safety, have been eliminated for the profit of the owners.

We had a wonderful experience at Jacquou le Croquant! The service was warm and attentive, and the chef was not only incredibly kind but also an excellent cook. We tried the foie gras, the duck breast with porcini mushroom sauce, and the chicken supreme with morels, all of them were absolutely delicious. Was expecting a bit more, the side dishes were poor as the main courses were good. The cream brulee was average at best. Apple tart was very hard to cut on the bottom, apple flavors were nice, as a bit more cream on the side would have been nice. The salads were very good.

Old traditional restaurant in Aix en We had a lunch, onion soup, Margret du canard, and cassoulet. The soup was good. The duck was well done despite of we ordered medium. The cassoulet was tasty but it wasn't duck, maybe turkey thigh. Average service. We were disappointed..

Most of all, we were treated magnificently. Both the waitress and the owner were super nice to us. The waitress could've sold us any dish. After such a treat, everything else was an extra. But even then, the food was also very nice, both the aiguillettes de canard and the salads proved to be very well prepared. The same can be said about the deserts. The interior terrace was fantastic.

Quality of food, and presentation is Lower than avreage. It s a Tourist trap. The waitress suggested us to try Paella since the chef comes from Spain.... it was a huge mistake. The palla was grey and looked more like a risotto. The rice used was round and not long, the cuttlefish was old and safferan was missing. The service was ok. The location was messy and not as clean as we like. Bad experince.

Restaurant Dan B offers avant-garde French cuisine in a contemporary setting with countryside views from the terrace. Located on the hill of Ventabren, this establishment by chef Dan Bessoudo, also known as Dan.B, showcases exceptional dishes featuring local vegetables, fruits, and mushrooms. The Experience Menu takes diners on a culinary journey through eight distinct and masterfully composed dishes. The restaurant's commitment to excellence is reflected in flawless service that expertly enhances the dining experience without being intrusive.
Wow! What an experience to visit and dine at Dan B. Our party of 5 (two couples and 1 child) recently enjoyed the tasting menu on our last night visiting the beautiful region of Provence. We were greeted by exceptionally friendly and welcoming hosts who were very accommodating to our specific dietary needs (child, vegetarian, and I’m expecting). The tasting menu was phenomenal and expertly curated by the chef - who was so kind to greet us near the end of our meal. The views of the sunset are also breathtaking! We will cherish our memory of this dinner for many years to come!

Absolutely stellar restaurant, tucked away at the top of the hill in the historical centre of Ventabren. Beautiful modern architecture, framing a stunning view - sympathetically blending within its medieval surroundings. Simple, elegant furnishings laid out the canvas… We had decided prior to arriving that we would be opting for the “Expressions” - a full tasting menu - showcasing local produce, outstanding skill and execution as well as the wit, humour and personality of Monsieur B! Although there wasn’t a specific “wine flights” - we were treated to some exceptional pairing recommendations by the flawless service and sommelier staff! I really couldn’t fault any of the dishes - and wouldn’t wish to ruin the surprise for anyone - so shall not go into great detail about each individual plate, however I was blown away by the Sole with pistachio - and especially the rice pudding (served with cloudy sake) !! Michelin marvel - don’t hesitate, if you can get a table!

What an idyllic venue perched high in this gorgeous village in Ventabren. You are greeted with spectacular views of a verdant Provençal countryside amidst the serene atmosphere in the well-thought-out minimalist-designed restaurant. You are offered the choice of 4 (blind) tasting menus, ranging from 81€ (for 4 courses) to 149€ (for 8 courses). Vegan and vegetarian menus are also available. We started ours with an amuse-bouche of a refreshing elixir of melon gazpacho, followed by a tomato salad in different textures and a superb tomato sorbet (while my husband had watermelon with smoked aubergine purée), Maigre (fish) for main course, choux topped with peach and a peach espuma and petits fours. Top-notch cooking by the chef patron, Chef Dan Bassoudo, creating magic using top quality fresh produce. Excellent service by the staff (who spoke English), attentive, courteous and described the food well. We would love to go back one evening when they open the glass doors (which are concertinaed to one side). Check out my Instagram @yippielovesfood for more restaurant reviews.

Lunch was delicious, with an excellent view. They were accommodating to us being late to our reservation. However I'm taking 2 stars off as they straight off recommended an appetizer set that ended up being 125 euros, without informing us of the price. Usually you don't expect an appetizer to be more than 20-30 euros. I think it's just a really distasteful thing to do to guests. Good restaurant otherwise!

Located 14 miles northwest of Aix on the famous Nationale 7, Le Mas Bottero is a gastronomic restaurant run by chef Nicolas Bottero. The restaurant emphasizes using seasonal and locally sourced ingredients to create refined yet unpretentious cuisine. In the fall and winter, diners can expect dishes featuring squash, wild game, and local mushrooms, while in the summer, the menu showcases the bounty of Provence. The restaurant has garnered praise for its relaxed atmosphere and exceptional dining experience.
What a spectacular treat for the soul the mind and the pallet it was incredible each dish was a world in itself as the whole was a journey to paradise. An ordinary place from outside also is very much nicer inside and better the staff was irreproachable attentive in many minute details I loved it our waiter waitress and sommeliere did really know what they talked about and most of all were pleasant effortlessly. Thank again for that marvellous Sunday we all appreciated.

We had a wonderful dinner at Le Mas Bottero. Every dish was absolutely wonderful and showed great attention to detail in plating and in flavors. They even "referred back to one another" slyly. The dessert -- a deconstruction and rebuilding from the ground up of strawberry-rhubarb "pie" -- was just amazing. They were extremely helpful and careful for our one diner who is truly gluten allergic and made her several different dishes which were safe for her, yet still delicious. The wine list is medium-sized and outstanding. We got expert assistance in choosing a reasonably priced Burgundy, which was a superb wine. I was disappointed to see the room only half full on a Thursday, given the great quality of the food. It is so good that if they can bring up the service a notch (we found ourselves pouring our own wine and water, as our charming but inexperienced waiter seemed a bit overwhelmed; fine from my point of view, but not something the Michelin guide appreciates) -- if not for that, then I would think this would deserve a second Michelin star.

A disappointment, though it was recommended by a culinary critic friend. Nice restaurant. Good service. Very competent wine list. We had the Menu Saison. The starter was literally inedible - artichoke was so hard, it tasted like plastic. Even though we left most of the artichoke on the plate, nobody asked us if something was wrong. Such a dish is a disgrace for a restaurant with a Michelin star. The salmon was very good. Chicken pie had barely any chicken, mostly dough. The strawberry dessert was excellent, light and not too sweet. So at the end, the restaurant is not worth a 20-30 minute trip from Aix. Not recommended!

Our experience at Le Mas Bottero was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment we stepped in, the ambiance exuded elegance and warmth, setting the stage for a remarkable evening. The menu was meticulously crafted with each dish it’s own culinary delight and work of art, beautifully plated and thoughtfully prepared. The service was impeccable, with the staff's knowledge and enthusiasm elevating our dining experience. It was truly an unforgettable evening. We look forward to returning in the future!

Worst Michelin experience. It was all downhill after the starter. So-called ‘risotto’ was so dry it was almost impossible to swallow, one course was literally just a piece of goat’s cheese, and to top it all off, we all left with stomach aches. As vegetarian guests, no thought or effort went into our menu. Dull and extremely low energy service, where even after expressing our disappointment(sending full plates back), even a simple coffee was not offered for our troubles. It was made clear no one cared. Poor example and standard of French Hospitality which we fortunately had better experiences of!
Priya J — Google review
We had a very pleasant lunch. Each dish was perfectly prepared and beautifully presented. Very good value for money. This restaurant has a well deserved reputation. We only have two minor criticisms- in the winter months the Chef should offer a potage/soup; and the smell from the washroom near the front entrance should be corrected.

We had a memorable and enjoyable meal at Le Mas Bottero. The food was beautifully presented, seasonal and delicious. They graciously accomodated our dietary restrictions. The staff was warm, friendly and charming without any pretension or stuffiness. We appeared to be the only Americans in the restaurant, which was nice.

La Brocherie is a charming and rustic eatery known for its grilled meat and seafood. The restaurant features an open hearth and wagon-wheel chandeliers, adding to its cozy ambiance. Visitors praise the excellent service, food, wine, location, and overall feel of the restaurant.
Such a lovely place with warm service. The food is just incredible! The veggie soup was so tasty, and the steak! Oh… so perfect done! And I couldn’t get enough of the lavender creme brulee.

If you are in Aix, this restaurant is a must! We shared the vegetable soup to start. Fresh and flavorful! We also got two different meat plates. The meat was so flavorful, melt in your mouth amazing. They cook all the meats and fish on an open grill so the aroma inside is amazing. They also have a selection of local wines!

Amazing food, really classic French and delicious. We’ve had a chance to travel quite a bit and this is one meal we will never forget. Service was excellent, helpful but not annoying. The price was so reasonable for the meal. Definitely recommend.

One of the best meals we had in Provence — we came back twice! We were in Provence for four nights and ended up eating at La Brocherie twice — that’s how good it was. The first night completely blew us away. The food is absolutely delicious, super fresh, and the portions are huge. Prices are very reasonable, especially for the quality you’re getting. Highly recommend starting with the seafood salad or the soupe de poisson — both were incredible. For mains, the carbonara and the veal T-bone were next-level good. The whole place is run by a lovely husband and wife — they were so friendly and made us feel right at home. Honestly, this was one of those unexpected finds that becomes a trip highlight. If you’re anywhere nearby, don’t miss it.

Grilled meat is the best. Fish soup and and salad won’t disappoint either. Dinner place for two nights for our 3 days’ short stay. Full every night. Booking essential.

I ordered the cold dish platter but didn’t realize it was actually a self-service salad bar, so I waited quite a while before figuring it out. Once I understood, the staff kindly offered to cancel it since I hadn’t taken anything — they were really nice and understanding! I also had the mixed grilled meat platter, which was absolutely delicious and very generous in portion. I especially loved the lamb and the veal kidney — both were flavorful and perfectly cooked. Highly recommended

This had good reviews and was by far the best meal we had during our week-long stay in France. We made a reservation which we realized was a good thing as it filled up fast. It was cozy with rustic look and feel including a large fireplace where they actually cooked the meals. We were served a delicious olive tapenade with the bread. Then we had the grilled seafood salad and Foie gras for appetizers. The seafood salad was amazing. It had more seafood than I have ever seen in a dish like this…muscles, scallops, calamari, shrimp. It was divine! My partner loved the Foie gras. For our main dishes, we had the John Dory fish which I had never had before. It was delicious, soft and delicate and full of flavor. My partner had the kidneys, a dish he recalls fondly from his childhood in Europe but difficult to find the the states. He loved that too. We topped it off with profiteroles which were Devine. The vanilla ice cream was real vanilla. The best I’d ever had. The owners were lovely and we learned a lot about their time running the restaurant. I can’t recommend this restaurant enough.
Katy O — Google review
In my opinion this is the finest restaurant in all of Aix-En-Provence (based on my limited experience). They were very kind to me after I made a mistake and booked the restaurant two nights in a row without realising it. I added back my Saturday night reservation over the phone. Wow, what an experience! Bone in ribeye grilled to perfection, the best gin and tonic in the world according to my waiter (and he wasn't wrong). A delicious glass of house red wine, chocolate mousse and an espresso. Very reasonable as well, in terms of cost. Amazing tapenade. Go here. You'll have a great time. It made my last evening in this wonderful city a night to remember. As I left, one of the staff encouraged me to go to the main avenue and listen to the music, as there was a DJ. Nice to get a hot tip about nightlife on the way out.

Jardin Mazarin is a chic and elegant restaurant located in Aix-en-Provence, situated on the corner of a square adorned with a beautiful dolphin fountain. The restaurant offers fresh and seasonal Italian-influenced cuisine with a gastronomic touch. While the terrace in the lush courtyard is unfortunately closed due to neighboring constraints, the interior provides a cool and quiet dining experience.
Best meal I’ve had in Provence so far - family-friendly, lovely service, great menu , UNREAL FOOD, sophisticated atmosphere but not pretentious. Could not recommend enough. Thank you for such a special meal

Good food & great service! I had a nice meal of their version of Caesar’s salad, then scallops and asparagus followed by the chef’s special dessert of the evening, made of raspberries and creams. All were excellent. I was eating solo and my waiter, Salah, made me feel welcome & gave great service along with all the staff. The location is very close to Cours Mirabeau, but on a quiet street near the four dolphins fountain. I recommend this restaurant.

Went here for a family lunch through Voyage Privé. The restaurant is nice and the service great but wouldn’t recommend doing it the VP. The quantities were smaller and the choice selection very restricted. Main dish was either a pasta (without any fish nor meat) or a chicken w. potatoes. So really nothing fancy compared to the rest of their menu. Would recommend going there outside VP if you really want to go. Also beware that it is called “jardin (gardens)” but it’s only an inside room nothing outside.

I was greeted with impeccable service by the waiters, one of whom us called Lucca. I had a starter of mushrooms in a delicate sauce with soft boiled egg. My main course was saddle of rabbit with saute potatoes. It was superb. The rabbit was tasty but oh, the potatoes. They were cooked in a vibrant spice which astonished my taste buds. Wonderful. I warmly recommend the restaurant.

Lucca is the star of the restaurant, we have never had the experience of such a helpful and friendly waiter who recommended to me the lobster and went out of his way to reassure me (as I had never tried lobster before ) that if I were not to like it, he would take it away and I could order something different. Needless to say the Lobster was delicious and it definitely is the best restaurant in Aix-en Provence and we will be back again. Merci Nigel and Dagi

If you’re looking for a lovely restaurant in Aix-en-Provence with a beautiful decoration, le Jardin Mazarin is probably what you’re looking for. However, we have been a bit disappointed by the cuisine, which wasn’t as fine as we expected to be. The fish was delicious, but the meat in both case was lacking of vegetables and wasn’t the best piece of meat.

Aux Petits Oignons is a cozy spot that takes pride in crafting gourmet hot dogs with authentic Alsace Knack sausages, and even offers a vegetarian option. What sets their hot dogs apart is the use of homemade buns baked fresh every morning on site, paired with a selection of top-notch French cheeses. Additionally, they serve gluten-free options such as veggie hot dogs, cheese fries, and pastries.
Best hotdog ever! Creative in flavour and the taste blend in nicely. I enjoy the Brooklyn (avocado) so much that I even came back (which is not easy to make a picky eater like me to come back). The fries are homemade, very fresh. The owner is a couple (I guess) and the lady is super nice and speak English well.

Had a wonderful meal here on our last night in Aix. I know it may seem simple, just hot dogs & fries, but everything is made with local ingredients and is really delicious! The homemade onions are the star of the show! So good. And the couple running the restaurant are so sweet. You can make a reservation by SMS, which we did, but others walked up just fine. But a few people were turned away when the small amount of tables were full. Really cute atmosphere and just a great local meal!

Mickaël Féval, a young and acclaimed chef who trained many Michelin-starred chefs in Paris, brings his considerable skill to this casual-elegant restaurant tucked away on a picturesque Aix side street. The menu boasts masterful and flavorful dishes that have made the restaurant a local benchmark. Olivia Féval charmingly oversees the dining room to ensure impeccable service.
We had the “passion menu”, and the food was very good, right on point - as you would expect, even tough it was very “safe” in my opinion (I would like to have seen more creativity). The service was polite, of course, but would also like to have had more explanations and context about the plates and the chef.

I was looking forward to a magical evening of great food at this Michelin starred restaurant. The food was not impressive and I’m really wondering HOW they got their star. We had an assortment of different waiters and were never sure who was supposed to be waiting on us! Most of the food was cold. The duck was so chewy, I had to spit it out into my napkin. I have only had duck a couple of times in my life—- but I’m pretty sure, it’s not supposed to be chewy!! The timing was all off. I had one glass of wine that I sipped very slowly waiting for the dish that was supposed to accompany it. I was nearly finished before my dish finally arrived. At nearly 100 Euros a person, I was not impressed!

One of the best pastry and lunch spot in town. Whenever I visit Aix en Provence, I have to pass by this little place. Always crowded and sometimes you will have to wait from 10-15min to order, but trust me it’s worth it ! The only thing I don’t like about this place is that it’s just too narrow, so when it’s crowded, you don’t really know where to stand. But beside all that, love their pastries and the food ! Definitely should try at least once !

A very pretty and atmospheric spot in the old town. Their specialty is desserts - dessert menu is huge and really delicious! A perfect place for an afternoon tea or for a breakfast. I’m taking one star for the “mess” we have here often when sitting for food - some of the ingredients are sometimes missing and the quality of service could be improved. And be careful with planning a visit in a busy hour - the place is small and you may be unable to find a free table.

The restaurant features an expansive terrace perfect for leisurely lunches or evening gatherings, as well as a stylish dining room with white leather banquettes and retro wood paneling. We spent a very good time at the restaurant for a lunch en route in Aix. Service made great efforts to make us feel welcome. Food was excellent and the whole setting was very charming and cozy. The meals we had were both delicious and creative. The value for money you get for their lunch menu is outstanding in my point of view. A nice treat at affordable rates if you ask me. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ How I rate: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ = Awesome! You need to try it! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ = Very good. Not outstanding. I’d come back any time. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ = Good. Nothing special. ⭐️⭐️ = Slightly disappointing. But still okay. ⭐️ = Don’t go. Save your money!

We were really looking forward to this highly recommended dining experience and it mostly did not disappoint! It was a slower night for the restaurant so we felt like the server was very attentive, which we appreciated. We ended up opting for the pre-fixe menu and our highlights of the menu were the sardine and bell pepper puree amuse-bouche, sea brim fish main, and chocolate dessert! So delicious! The steak was nicely cooked and seasoned but didn’t love or felt it worked with the pairing of mashed aubergine with a curry flavor. The cheese selection wasn’t my favorite but I did enjoy the harder cheese with the bread service. Also the poached egg with asparagus lacked in flavor for me. But otherwise an enjoyable and relaxing dinner experience! Left us full and satisfied for sure.

I read the reviews and decided to try this place! I loved it! The staff was very welcoming, which is not always true as a single diner. The server plus a man who may have been the owner were very attentive to my every need. I like rose wine and they offered two types of local rose wine by the glass. Both were good. Then, I had the cheese, prosciutto, vegetables and hummus starter plate, the sea bass and veges plus an amazing strawberry pistachio cake. I was so full I couldn’t finish the cake and the possible owner immediately asked me if it was ok! I explained it was awesome! The setting is beautiful, with a nice patio overlooking a small private park which is part of their property. The only slight issue was it is off the beaten path, tucked back in a nice neighborhood, and about 20 minutes walk from my hotel which was near Cours Mirabeau, the main tourist area. But, I enjoyed the walk. I recommend you try this restaurant when in the area!

Incredible . Owner came by many times and helped with wine pairings. OWe wanted to try several items so they offered to split the portions so we could share more easily. They made us feel very welcome and comfortable. Like visiting family that you like. A simple setting outdoors which was cool enough despite the heat. Not fussy. Focused on the wonderful food and creative combinations of the flavors of Provence. Highly recommended. Would give a higher rating if it were allowed. The best meal that we have had in France , including several Michelin starred in Paris.
Jonathan H — Google review
Waiters were excellent. However, service was very slow and there was just something missing to make the food more cohesive and a touch better on the palette (besides the fish and desserts) I think a better quality check would also benefit the plates. The way that the ingredients combined together was slightly off. Small things like the cheese plate: better presentation and eye to details like cutting cheese straighter, or a better looking plate to match the rest. Stinky cheese is not my thing, however — it did not match the rest of the tasting menu with its aggressive taste. As others mentioned, the owner’s dogs were wandering around the kitchen and dining area towards the end of service. If I was allergic to dogs, this would have been problematic. The location is nice. It is in a quiet neighborhood which is unique.

A spot away from the busy city, this place was a recommendation from a fellow restauranter in Provence. Food was brilliant and the service was great too. Sadly was a little quiet when we were there but it was early compared to the time the locals eat!

My favourite of all restaurants we visited during our four days in Aix-en-Provence. Menu is bilingual (French and English) and our server spoke fluent English. She was very helpful and kind. Food was outstanding. My partner was blown away with her Noix de Saint-Jacques which came with a very light and airy sauce that accentuated the scallops rather than overpowering them. My Filet de perdreau was excellent - tender and flavourful. The menu warned that it may contain shot from hunting and indeed, I found two pellets. I did not mind this at all since it assured me this was indeed a locally hunted partridge. Overall, an outstanding meal. My only complaint is the dark parking lot. Installing some lights would be helpful in finding the entrance and not tripping in the dark.

My favorite crepe stand. So worth finding and waiting for a fresh crepe made while you watch!

This place has FANTASTIC crepes for the best price I’ve seen. I went there 3 times in 4 days. I’m obsessed!!

Crepes a gogo is my go to quick lunch spot in Aix en Provence. The crepes are delicious and very reasonably priced. No where to sit down but you can take your crepe up yo the rotonde and eat while you watch passers by.
Kelly B — Google review
Literally the best crêpes in Aix ! It may seem like a sketchy place (since you need to go under the road) but it is totally not. The lady at the counter is always nice. They have an extensive selection of choice and you can even buy raw dough. They have milkshakes in the summer. Completely recommend that place, so worth it!!
Syrah — Google review
So many options - sweet or savory. Highly customizable. I like the ham, cheese, and egg one a lot - very filling too so perfect for lunch on the go. Service is fast and you can watch the master crêpe-maker (?) at work. Plus you can eat and walk around at the same time... not very french but very efficient. In a very unexpected place in an underground passageway but don't be put off by that.

Brasserie

Located near Red Soul and Vents Sauvage, Le Forum is a popular brasserie known for its fresh shellfish and lively terrace. It offers a selection of well-priced bulk wines to pair with succulent oysters and daily specials. Seafood enthusiasts can indulge in platters featuring oysters and sea urchins, as well as the chef's delicious mussel recipe. Despite weekend crowds, the vibrant atmosphere, friendly staff, and delectable food make it a favorite spot for many.
It is epresentative of the french brasseries at least as far as atmosphere and drinks are concerned. Three stars for service are actually pretty good for a french premise and the real grade would have been 3.5 stars... The waiters were fast and efficient and tried their best to understand the terrible little french I could utter. Did not try the food so I don't grade it.

I ordered beef tartar and rose. Side French fry and bread were rock hard😭😂French fries seemed like it was already made while back and re-fried when I ordered. it was not warm so I guess double fried before and then left. Rose was great. Service person was good. It should not be your first choice in the area…❤️‍🩹

I had one of my best meals in France here, and that’s saying something. The server was very friendly, and the meal, which was fillet mignon of pork with au gratin potatoes was absolutely fantastic.

We enjoyed very much on the food, service and vibe here. The freshness on seafood, the friendliness of staff, and tables outside are located really the centre of town. Long queue in lunch time. Sure no seafood left for late comer. Highly recommended.

An ideal restaurant for seafood lovers. You can order platters with oysters and sea urchins. I tried the mussels - chef's recipe and they were delicious. It was quite crowded in the weekend and we waited about an hour for the food. Pay attention that the ribs are fat.

Surprisingly good. Service was furst rate. Relaxed, friendly and efficent. Food we very tasty (Steak Tartare and Salmon) for the price. Lacking some of the ambiance of some other local offerings, but ahead on all.other counts.

The reception was incredibly warm and inviting, with an attentive waiter providing helpful suggestions. The meal itself showcased exceptional quality, all at very reasonable prices. It was truly an enjoyable experience overall. Specifically, the Cheese & Burger side (featuring the delectable Big Butcher tea) and Fresh Box (highlighting the tantalizing Lok Lak beef) come highly recommended. This American restaurant effortlessly combines great food and a fantastic atmosphere to create a memorable dining affair.

(Translated by Google) A Gourmet Stopover in Aix-en-Provence While passing through Aix-en-Provence as part of my school trip, I had the chance to discover this restaurant, and what an unforgettable experience! The homemade beef burger was a true culinary gem. The meat, grilled to perfection, barbecue-style, offered an intense, smoky flavor, enhanced by a soft bun and fresh, perfectly balanced ingredients. Each bite instantly transported me back to my childhood, to those authentic meals where taste and quality prevailed above all else. The fries, golden and crispy to perfection, accompanied this feast with an almost insolent perfection. An explosion of flavors that proves that simplicity, when mastered, can be magnificent. I felt like I was transported back to my tender childhood, with a deep and positive sweetness! Add to that the exceptionally kind, welcoming, and admirable staff, who made this meal a most enjoyable experience. If you're passing through Aix, look no further than this place, a must-see for all lovers of exceptional burgers. A big thank you for this gourmet experience! The Cocktails are very good, but the billing needs improvement, our group is lacking 30€ in change. A Diskussion couldnt clear this up. The personal and additional people from the neighboring Restaurant became unfriendly and reacted considerably more unfriendly after realizing that some of us were german. Addendum: We have not made any excuses for alleged mistakes on our part, as mentioned in another review.

This Bar resides at a square surrounded by some lovely architecture. It is the first opportunity entering that eye candy of square to sit down, have a drink while enjoying the view. Having found a cosy looking place in front of the bar, one realizes, that the bars in the center of the square have cheaper drinks in greater variety and more comfortable seats with heating in the evening. The Cutback has just one waiter at a time that seems to be not the most geniuous Mathematicion when it comes to calculating changes. So you wait for at least 45 min. to get served in an unfriendly and harsh manner before having to argue with that stressed waiter who returns you a far too small amount of change. No one would call him a liar but collecting money from different people and distributing the correct amount of change to the costumers seems not to be his strength. The drinks they make are just acceptable, certainly not outstanding. Having experienced that, one could think about the word tourist trap here. But there are enough better alternatives on this square and a gorgeous city to discover.

This is a great little bookstore/coffee shop in Aix en Provence, particularly if you’re looking for some English books. It has a really nice atmosphere and has been busy every time we have stopped by. We bought a number of books for teaching and they ordered some others that were not in stock. The books arrived in about ten days which was perfect for us. The staff were also quite friendly and helpful with ordering the books we needed. I definitely recommend if you want a cool place to have a coffee and browse the shelves.

Bistrot des Philosophes is a charming restaurant located in a lively square. The food and wine are delightful, and the staff is attentive, even going as far as bringing ice for tap water on hot evenings. While the cuisine is delicious, it can be pricey if you opt for multiple courses. This cozy bistro offers unpretentious and friendly service, making it welcoming even for those with limited French skills. Guests can enjoy fantastic desserts like chocolate cake in a casual and warm atmosphere.
Wonderful little Bistrot that is open on Sunday. Service was unpretentious and welcoming, especially with our poor French skills. Chocolate cake dessert was fantastic. Atmosphere is casual and warm. We sat inside on a cold spring night. Loved this place!

A lovely restaurant placed in an buzzing square. The food was yummy, as was the wine. The staff were particularly thoughtful, bringing over ice to go with our tap water due to the hot evening. A bit overpriced for what it offers. The food is solid. Good ingredients, and a few things that hit the spot (such as the tomato ice cream and the creme brulee), but overall, it felt like a tourist offering. The tomato tart fine lacked tomato taste (way too much cheese) and my main (fish) was good but not really improved by the chef's efforts. Nice ( though busy) location and great service but would have been 3 stars but for the fact that others in our group liked the food more than I did.
Thomas M — Google review
This restaurant was recommended to us by an Aix local. First impression was a bit negative due to a cold and a bit rude greeting by the staff -- which we later learned were tending to the entire restaurant between just the two of them. However, once we got a table we enjoyed a wonderful meal with nice wines. Menu is classic and simple but the food is beautifully presented. The dining space is traditionally decorated in a cosy and tasteful way.

Service was terrific; I think the owner was there visiting all of the tables. We had eggplant to start and St Pierre (Jack Dory) plus a fabulous créeme brûlée. All of it was cooked perfectly and the presentation was delightful. Will come again.

Came here looking for the meat I saw in the reviews. Was very disappointed to find they didn’t have it, or any of the other items I was craving from the pictures. The disappointment didn’t last long because the vibe of the place and service was incredible, when the food came I couldn’t believe how good it was. Hands down one of the best meals of the trip, was not expecting it at all. Every single thing that we were served was spectacular, made with care and purpose.
Victoria M — Google review
Our 2nd time here and not yet disappointed! It’s a challenge to find consistently well-thought out, delicious food in Aix. This is definitely a place to go to again and again. We shared the pan con tomate, their version of a Spanish classic: rice flour toast, garlicky tomato purée, roasted portobello mushroom, and grated manchego. The scallops and octopus were tender, accompanied by a nutty, sweet carrot purée to complement the briny lobster jus. And what I expected to like the least, I loved the most. Their stuffed cabbage had the such an herb-y pork filling and slightly acidic veal jus. So much umami in that dish! Don’t forget the wines, which are plenty in variety - many natural and organic. We decided to take a bottle of La Mongestine’s Georgette thinking we would take the rest home. Instead, we shared some with the neighboring table after they had offered some of their delicious El Pop with us. When you find yourself in the enchanting region of Provence, indulging in a glass of rosé wine or savoring a pastis—an iconic anise-flavored aperitif—is an absolute must. This area is renowned for its protected appellations like AOC Chateauneuf-du-Pape and Côtes de Provence, but there’s so much more to explore!

The Specialty Pastis shop is a must-visit for anyone interested in the quintessentially Provencal drink. This unique store offers a wide array of pastis brands, including the famous Ricard, and also features an assortment of paraphernalia such as glasses and other branded merchandise. Visitors can explore the world of this anise-flavored liqueur, which is a staple during aperitif hour in the south of France.
Wide array of pastis brands and a lot of paraphernalia too - glasses and other branded merch.

Pastis was fine. However I came into the shop carrying heavy bags and the owner got caught up with another customer so I decided to leave after sampling one Pastis. I genuinely wanted to return the next day but was accused of treating the shop “like a bar” for not making a purchase after one sample. Would have happily paid to try a few more and made a selection rather than buying something I didn’t like. Thanks for ruining an otherwise pleasant first afternoon in Aix.

The shopkeeper is undrinkable... we almost apologize for disturbing him, buying him a bottle, running his business, we have to change jobs my good sir!!! Don't you know? It will end up knowing that you are infected!!! I will go to another pastis seller because you are not the only one selling them and it will probably be good and cheaper with a seller happy to do his job!!

(Translated by Google) We came today, we were asked if we had reservations even though the place was empty and there was no one there, when they told us everything was reserved. We came back and took 2 drinks, the music was very loud and we couldn't hear each other talking. 5 people from the service stood in front of us and stared at us and made us understand that we had to leave quickly even though the room was empty (I would like to point out here that we were speaking Russian with my friend and we had the impression that It was because of this that we were observed even though we are French and only speak Russian). They didn't offer us anything for wine, they were very unpleasant, no warm welcome and their wine list is mediocre (and I know a little about wine). I live not far from this bar and every time I pass by it's empty! In Aix there are many very nice wine bars so avoid this place. The wine pairing proposed by the sommelier was also perfect. The menu really took us on a journey. So a very big thank you to all the staff and the Chef. Food was quite good BUT pricing was terribel. 8 EUR for a bottle of water AND we ordered canneloni for our daugther (9 years), suddenly on the bill there was 23 EUR for her meal (a complete menue of 2 dishes althouh she only ordered and consumed 1 dish)- After claiming the lady told us that a reduction is not possible (invoicing the canneloni only). NOT to be recommended for people who have kids and who like to consume their bottel of wine with water. NOT AT FAIR DEAL AT ALL!
