Zoo
Outdoor Activities
Nandankanan Zoological Park, located in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, is a sprawling 437-hectare zoo and botanical garden established in 1960. It's home to over 1,500 animals including white tigers and pangolins. The park offers various attractions such as boating, safaris featuring white tigers, lions, bears and herbivores, a reptile park, zoo museum, orchid house and an aquarium.
A Wonderful Experience at Nandankanan Zoological Park! Nandankanan is truly one of the best places to visit in Bhubaneswar. The zoo is very well maintained, clean, and surrounded by beautiful greenery. It’s not just a zoo but also a botanical garden with a peaceful environment and a natural lake inside. You can see a wide variety of animals, birds, and reptiles — especially the white tigers, lions, and elephants which are amazing to watch. The toy train and boating facilities add extra fun for families and children. The staff are polite and take good care of the animals. It’s a perfect place for nature lovers and a great spot for photography too. Highly recommended for a day trip with friends or family — a place where you can enjoy nature and wildlife together! 🌿🐅🦜

Visiting Nandankanan Zoological Park was an incredibly refreshing and memorable experience for me. Situated on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, the park felt less like a traditional zoo and more like a sprawling natural forest, offering a rare sense of openness and tranquility. From the moment I entered, I was struck by the abundance of greenery and the spacious layout, which allowed the animals to roam freely in environments that closely resembled their natural habitats. Unlike many crowded zoos, here the animals appeared genuinely cared for, and it was heartening to see them move around comfortably rather than pacing anxiously behind bars. One of the most unforgettable moments for me was seeing the white tigers up close. Having only seen them in photos before, watching their powerful and majestic stride in real life left me in awe. The lion safari and herbivore safari added an adventurous dimension to the visit, making me feel immersed in the wild rather than merely observing animals from a distance. Additionally, the aquarium and reptile house were fascinating, especially for someone curious about aquatic and exotic species, offering insights into the diversity of life beyond terrestrial animals. What impressed me the most was the serene atmosphere. The park was clean, well-organized, and calm, allowing me to enjoy long, leisurely walks while soaking in the beauty of nature. Nandankanan Zoological Park was more than just a zoo—it felt like a peaceful retreat into the wilderness, leaving me with lasting memories.

Visited after 5 years and so much has changed in a good way. Will recommend getting the electric ride ( for group) and the guide (Aditya). The guide actually made the whole day a very fun experience. Such a chill guy and very knowledgeable about each species of animal. Overall the environment was clean with no litter anywhere. Will recommend visiting after December 21st as some new animal enclosure are being constructed at the moment. Do not miss the bird sanctuary hidden away behind the chained doors.

Nandankanan Zoo is an amazing place to visit! I got to see a wide variety of animals like tigers, lions, crocodiles, elephants, giraffes, deer, snakes, and even a honey badger. The zoo is well-maintained and offers a great experience for both wildlife lovers and families. Apart from the animals, I also tried some adventure activities like the train ride and zip-lining, which made the visit even more exciting. It’s a perfect mix of fun, learning, and adventure. Truly a must-visit spot in Bhubaneswar!
Biswobhusan M — Google review
We visited this zoo recently and had a really nice experience overall. The entry ticket cost was ₹50 per person. We also booked a private safari vehicle for ₹1600, which was for 1 hour. A guide accompanied us throughout the ride and gave clear and interesting explanations about the animals and the zoo. During the safari, we got to see tigers, lions, birds, reptiles, and monkeys — it was a beautiful and memorable experience. 🐅🦁🦜🐍🐒 I also bought a fridge magnet for ₹150, which I personally felt was a bit expensive. Parking charges for a 4-wheeler were ₹50. Overall, it’s a great place to visit with family and friends, especially if you love animals and want to learn more about them. The guided safari made the trip even more enjoyable! 🦓🌿✨

Nandankanan Zoological Park is a must-visit destination in Bhubaneswar! The park's naturalistic habitats and conservation efforts are truly impressive. The tiger safari,Bear safari and lion safari are thrilling experiences, while the crocodile park and botanical garden are great for learning and relaxation. The park's cleanliness and maintenance are noteworthy. A great place for families and wildlife enthusiasts. Highly recommended!

Takes 4-5 hours. Better to go on your self if alone. It takes 80 for Battery Vehicle and 120 for AC Safari bus. Staff is helpful to make you understand how to manoeuvre through. Don’t overly trust the guides. Entry ticket can be bought online but Safari and others have to booked at the gate only. No plastic bottles etc allowed inside.
Proshanto K — Google review
It's a huge one, so be prepared to have and exhaustive walk, if possible day selection should be suitable in terms of climate and have suitable clothing to avoid any dehydration. Free RO water is available at every corner. But remember any disposable item is not allowed inside. We were having usual fridge bottles which is allowed for bisleri bottle I guess they charge some amount or deposit to make sure you don't throw them inside. And snacks in plastic wrappers to be converted into a paper bag 5rs/ paper bag. Traim ride was not available during our visit but ropeway was fun. They have safari in bus (sort of 30 seater) which I find unusual and probably not so fun. We bought the ticket but skipped the safari as the place was overcrowded and safari in a big bus is not so encouraging. You can see all sort of tigers in the captivity including white one. The best thing we like is Giraffes

The Udayagiri and Khandagiri Caves near Bhubaneswar are a must-visit for history and nature lovers. These ancient rock-cut caves, dating back to the 2nd century BCE, beautifully showcase Odisha's rich Jain heritage and King Kharavela's legacy. The carvings and inscriptions at Udayagiri, especially the Rani Gumpha and Hathigumpha, are truly fascinating. The view from the top of the hill is breathtaking, especially during sunset. The site is well-maintained and offers a peaceful atmosphere surrounded by greenery. Perfect place to explore history, architecture, and spirituality together. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Bhubaneswar!
Amit P — Google review
Udayagiri and Khandagiri Caves, just on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, was like stepping into a quiet conversation between history, spirituality, and nature. These ancient caves, carved into hills more than 2,000 years ago, once served as dwellings for Jain monks during the reign of King Kharavela. But today, they offer much more than just a glimpse into the past — they offer an experience that’s both humbling and inspiring. I started with Udayagiri, which is slightly more developed and archaeologically significant. The moment you enter, you’re greeted by stunning rock-cut facades and intricately carved reliefs depicting royal processions, animals, and symbols from Jain mythology. The Rani Gumpha (Queen’s Cave), with its two-storeyed structure and detailed carvings, completely captivated me. It’s amazing to think how such precision was achieved so many centuries ago, using the simplest tools. Climbing through the caves felt like a spiritual trek — not just physically upwards, but inward as well. As I moved from chamber to chamber, I could almost imagine the monks meditating in the cool, dark interiors, surrounded by silence and stone. Across the road, Khandagiri is less elaborate but offers a raw, natural charm. The climb to the top is a bit steep, but absolutely worth it. From there, you get a panoramic view of Bhubaneswar — modern city life unfolding below a hill that holds echoes of ancient wisdom. What made the experience even more memorable was the peaceful atmosphere. The soft rustle of leaves, the chirping of birds, and the occasional sound of a temple bell in the distance made it feel like time had slowed down. It’s a place that encourages stillness and reflection — a rare gift in today’s fast-paced world. Whether you're a history lover, a spiritual seeker, or simply someone who enjoys scenic places, Udayagiri and Khandagiri offer a rich, quiet beauty that stays with you long after you've left.
Vinod S — Google review
Khandagiri and Udayagiri caves are not only significant for their historical and architectural value but also for their spiritual importance. They offer a glimpse into the lives of ancient Jain monks and their practices. The site is surrounded by lush greenery, providing a serene and peaceful atmosphere for visitors.

The best time to visit this place is early morning because it’s peaceful, less crowded, and the sunrise looks amazing. It’s a must-visit for art lovers, architects, artists, historians, and anyone interested in mythology. I love this place not only for its beautiful ancient caves but also for the lush greenery that has been wonderfully preserved around them.

We simply loved visiting this architectural marvel. The caves themselves with their intricate work were breathtaking. to think that such constructions were carried out during the ancient period baffles us. The Odisha government seems to be taking sincere efforts to maintain the structures. the footpaths and conveniences for tourists were also good. a must visit place if you are a Bhubaneswar

We recently visited Udayagiri in Bhubaneswar, and it was a wonderful experience. The place is rich in history and offers a deep insight into India’s ancient heritage. The rock-cut caves and carvings are truly impressive and worth exploring. Our visit was made even better by our guide, Mr. Mitra, who explained everything beautifully. He shared the historical background of each cave in an engaging and easy-to-understand way. He was courteous, patient, and ensured we didn’t miss any important detail. Thanks to him, we were able to appreciate the true significance of Udayagiri. Overall, it was an excellent experience, and I highly recommend both the site and Mr. Mitra’s guiding service to anyone visiting Bhubaneswar.

A must visit for anyone interested in Indian heritage , history and architecture . These caves excavated on two hills for use of Jain monks were commissioned in 1 BC and were in use till the time of Somavamshis ( 10 -11 CE) . The rock cut caves are amazing for their artistry and efficient layout . The Rani Gumpha is notable for being a two storied structure . The Hathi Gumpha Inscription found in Udayagiri gives historical details of wars win by King Kharavela ( in 1 BC) and grants and public welfare projects made by him . The monuments are very well maintained . Plenty of Langur monkeys around . Vehicles can only stop for drop and pick up , parking is at a different place . On week ends it gets very crowded . Entrance is ticketed , currently Rs25 for Indians. Separate ticket only for Video Cameras . Open from 8am to 5pm . At the base , one can find dozens of bustling snack kiosks . For safety , there is a police outpost close by .

Historical landmark
Nestled atop the serene Dhauli Hills in Odisha, the Dhauli Shanti Stupa, also known as the Peace Pagoda, is a stunning white structure that radiates tranquility. Constructed in 1972 through a collaboration between Japanese and Indian Buddhist organizations, this remarkable shrine serves as a poignant reminder of Emperor Ashoka's transformation from a conqueror to an advocate for peace following the Kalinga War.
The Dhauli Shanti Stupa, located near Bhubaneswar in Odisha, holds great historical and spiritual significance. It is believed to be the site of the Kalinga War (261 BCE), where Emperor Ashoka witnessed massive bloodshed that changed his heart. Deeply moved, Ashoka renounced violence and embraced Buddhism, spreading messages of peace and compassion. The Japanese Buddhist Sangha later built the white Peace Pagoda (Shanti Stupa) here in 1972, symbolizing harmony and non-violence. Surrounded by ancient rock edicts of Ashoka and serene landscapes, Dhauli Shanti Stupa stands as a reminder of transformation, peace, and the universal message of brotherhood. Experience: Not much to explore, but it is a peaceful and pleasant place to visit. The four statues of Buddha each depict a story. I am not sure if private vehicles are allowed near the temple, as we traveled there on a small government bus. The four Buddha statues at Dhauli Shanti Stupa (Peace Pagoda), Odisha represent the four significant stages of Lord Buddha’s life. Each statue is placed facing one direction of the stupa, symbolizing peace and compassion: Birth of Buddha (Lumbini) – Depicts the moment of Siddhartha Gautama’s birth. Enlightenment (Bodh Gaya) – Represents Buddha attaining enlightenment under the Bodhi tree. First Sermon (Sarnath) – Symbolizes the "Dharmachakra Pravartan" (Turning of the Wheel of Dharma) when he first taught the path. Mahaparinirvana (Kushinagar) – Depicts Buddha’s final departure from the world, symbolizing eternal peace. These statues together narrate Buddha’s journey and convey the message of non-violence, compassion, and universal peace.
Sankalp A — Google review
I recently visited the Dhauli Shanti Stupa as part of my Puri tour, and it was truly a serene experience! The peaceful surroundings and stunning architecture of the stupa are breathtaking. The white and gold color scheme is visually striking. Highlights: - Peaceful Ambiance: Perfect for meditation and relaxation. - Beautiful Architecture: The stupa's design and colors are impressive. - Buddha Statue : The statue is beautifully crafted. Suggestion: - Accessibility: There seems to be no clear entrance or option to explore the inside of the stupa. Consider providing clearer signage or access for visitors. Overall, Dhauli Shanti Stupa is a must-visit for its tranquility and architectural beauty.

The 36 Yogini Temple in Hirapur, located about 15 km from Bhubaneswar, is a unique and serene heritage site known for its circular, open-air structure and tantric significance. Built in the 9th century, the temple originally housed 64 Yogini idols, though only around 36 remain today, giving it its popular name. The intricate stone carvings, peaceful surroundings, and spiritual aura make it a fascinating spot for history enthusiasts and those seeking quiet reflection. Though not grand in size, the temple's distinct architecture and mystical charm leave a lasting impression. However, facilities around the site are minimal, so it’s best visited as part of a short, well-planned heritage outing.

This a small temple but very beautiful and free from over commercial nature of big temples of Bhubaneswar and Puri. And it's also unique temple and may have some importance for people believing in tantric powers. Garden and a pond is beutiful. A handicraft shop near to the temple on access road is also very nice, the offered rates for real handicraft is quite reasonable.

A mesmerizing historical gem just outside Bhubaneswar! The Chausath Yogini Temple in Hirapur is a rare 9th-century circular shrine, dedicated to 64 divine Yoginis—feminine energies of Tantra. Its open-air, roofless design instantly sets it apart from other temples, creating a serene, mystical atmosphere that’s perfect for quiet reflection and spiritual connection. The intricate stone carvings and powerful goddess statues, many still beautifully preserved, echo the temple’s profound heritage. You’ll notice each Yogini depicted in unique poses and expressions, symbolizing the diversity and strength of the feminine divine. The narrow, low entrance adds a sense of awe as you step into this sacred mandala. Although modest in size, the temple’s peaceful ambiance, artistry, and deeply rooted history make it a must-visit for anyone interested in Odisha’s unique cultural and spiritual legacy. The entire site is well-maintained, and its aura feels far removed from the noise of the city. Highly recommended for seekers of art, history, or tranquil places to meditate and feel inspired by ancient wisdom.

Yogini Temple in Hirapur, Odisha (also called the Mahamaya Temple), a rare and evocative example of hypaethral (open-air) tantric architecture from the 9th century CE. Situated about 20 km south of Bhubaneswar, this circular temple is one of only four surviving 64 yogini shrines in India Dedicated to the Cult of the Yoginis—64 powerful female deities associated with Goddess Durga/Mahamaya and tantric practices involving worship of the five elements (bhumandala) Found in the rural village of Hirapur, beyond Bhubaneswar—best reached by taxi or private car . • There’s no entry fee, and an ASI caretaker can act as a guide for a small fee (~₹50), often selling a booklet with detailed information . • Ideal visiting time: around 9 AM, after morning puja ceremonies and when guides are available. Avoid monsoon season (June–September) due to flooding risks near the nearby pond and river

Chousathi Yogini Temple at Hirapur, Odisha is known locally as Mahamaya Mandir. There are a lot of goddesses worshipped in this circular temple. During my time as an academic, I only encountered the female form of Ganesh at this temple. Two figures with necked mail resembling Niganta (necked monk) are present. The land is kept clean and in good condition. Visiting in the evening is preferable.

Ananta Vasudeva Temple, located on the eastern bank of Bindu Sarovar in Bhubaneswar, is a prominent 13th-century Hindu temple. It is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and features idols of Lord Krishna, Balarama, and Subhadra. The temple was built by Queen Chandrika of the Chodaganga dynasty and renovated by the Marathas in the late 17th century.
A spiritually enriching experience! Ananta Vasudeva Temple is one of the rare temples in Bhubaneswar dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The architecture is stunning, similar to the Lingaraj Temple, but with beautiful Vaishnavite carvings. The temple's traditional kitchen serves delicious Mahaprasad, cooked in earthen pots — a must-try! A peaceful and divine place that blends devotion, history, and culture perfectly.

Nestled amidst the cultural heartland of Odisha, this historic temple stands as a timeless testimony to the region’s rich architectural and spiritual heritage. Carved intricately from stone, the temple reflects the unmatched craftsmanship of ancient artisans. Every wall, pillar, and sculpture speaks a silent story from centuries past, showcasing depictions of gods, celestial beings, animals, and mythological scenes with breathtaking detail and symmetry. The temple’s towering spire reaches towards the sky, symbolizing a bridge between the earth and the divine. As sunlight falls upon its surfaces, the carvings come alive with shadows and light, creating a magical atmosphere that enchants every visitor. The structure is not just a place of worship, but also a remarkable example of engineering and design from an era where tools were limited but imagination was boundless. Surrounded by natural beauty and calmness, the temple complex often fills with the soft sounds of bells, chants, and the fragrance of incense. Pilgrims and tourists alike are drawn to its aura — seeking blessings, inner peace, or simply to witness the marvel of its existence. The spiritual energy around it is powerful, yet deeply comforting. Despite the passage of time, the temple remains well-preserved, echoing the glory of a bygone civilization that valued devotion, art, and architectural excellence. Whether one is religious or not, standing in the shadow of this grand monument stirs a deep respect for history and heritage. It is a living relic of faith, devotion, and timeless cultural pride.

The Ananta Basudeva Temple of Bhubaneswar stands as a rare symbol of Vaishnavite devotion within a city otherwise dominated by temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. Erected in 1278 CE by Queen Chandrika Devi of the Eastern Ganga dynasty, the temple was envisioned as a sacred abode for Lord Krishna in his form as Ananta Basudeva, accompanied by his siblings Balarama and Subhadra. Its architecture closely resembles that of the grand Lingaraj Temple situated nearby, reflecting the classic Kalinga style with its towering spire, ornate carvings, and stone craftsmanship. Yet, while the Lingaraj Temple resonates with Shaivite chants, Ananta Basudeva echoes with the mellifluous hymns of Vishnu. One of the most distinctive aspects of the temple is its ancient kitchen tradition. Unlike most North Indian temples where offerings are symbolic, here food is cooked in large earthen pots over wood-fired stoves, much like the Mahaprasad of the Jagannath Temple in Puri. This sacred food, known as Abhada, is prepared not just by priests but often with the assistance of local women, turning worship into a communal act of devotion. The aroma of steaming rice and vegetables mingles with incense smoke, giving the temple a warmth that feels both spiritual and homely. Beyond its historical legacy, the temple is enveloped in fascinating folklore that deepens its mystique. Local legends claim that this very site marks the place where the mortal remains of Lord Krishna were cremated after his earthly departure, as narrated in certain vernacular retellings of the Mahabharata. This belief transforms the temple from a mere place of worship into a shrine of cosmic closure—a final chapter in the divine saga of Krishna. Another popular tale speaks of celestial serpents that once guarded the sanctum; it is said that when invaders tried to desecrate the temple, mysterious illnesses befell them, forcing them to retreat. Even today, devotees point to stone carvings of serpents as silent sentinels of that legend. The temple continues to be a vibrant center of culture and faith. During Janmashtami, the birth of Krishna is celebrated not only with rituals but with playful dramatizations drawn from both scripture and village imagination. Worshippers narrate stories of young Krishna stealing butter, teasing gopis, and dancing on the serpent Kaliya—all retold with laughter and reverence in equal measure. Thus, Ananta Basudeva Temple is not just a repository of history; it is a living tapestry where devotion mingles with myth, and stone meets soul.

🙏Har Har Mahadev 🙏 Jay Jagganath ji Jay Sri Lakshminarayan Vishnu. Ananta Vasudeva Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Krishna, an avatar of Vishnu located in Bhubaneswar close to Lingraj Temple and infront of Bindusagar . The temple was constructed in the thirteenth century, and the complete murtis of Krishna, Balarama and Subhadra are worshipped there. The temple dates back to the period of Chandrika Devi, the daughter of Anangabhima III of Eastern Ganga ruler, during the reign of the king Bhanudeva.

Ananta Basudev Temple Located in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, the Ananta Basudev Temple is a rare and beautiful shrine dedicated to Lord Vishnu, locally known as Basudev. The architecture reflects classic Kalinga style, and the peaceful surroundings make it a serene spiritual stop. The temple is also known for the sacred Anna Prasad (temple food) prepared in traditional earthen pots.

We visited Ananta Basudev Temple, located beside the sacred Bindu Sagar Lake in Bhubaneswar, to offer Śrāddha. The experience was deeply spiritual and peaceful. The temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu (Ananta Basudev), carries immense historical and religious significance — one of the few Vishnu temples in the Ekamra Kshetra surrounded mostly by Shiva shrines. The priests were very cooperative and guided us well through the Śrāddha rituals with devotion and care. The calm surroundings of Bindu Sagar, with the temple reflection on the water, create a serene atmosphere perfect for prayers and offerings to ancestors. Cleanliness around the temple and the disciplined arrangement by the pandas made the visit comfortable. If you are visiting Bhubaneswar for spiritual purposes, especially for Śrāddha or Pinda Dāna, this is one of the most auspicious and peaceful places to do it. Truly a divine and memorable experience.

Park
Nicco Park is a sprawling 25-acre outdoor amusement park in Bhubaneswar that has been entertaining visitors since 1998. Partnering with Nicco Japan, the park offers a wide range of old-fashioned rides, a water park, and even a 10-pin bowling alley. It's a popular destination for families and friends looking for an exciting day out.
Its a good place to enjoy with family and kids ... atmosphere is nice and your time will pass once you enter . But now maximum rides not available.. everything is under maintenance for which price is cheap. No fooding counter available right now. Maybe within 6 months it will be completed with a new design and new looks, I believe. You can now just enjoy the peace & get some breeze there by paying 50 only. Kids 2 rides available.
James A — Google review
It's currently known as BDA city centre. It's in very bad condition. Most of the rides are closed now. They charged ₹100 for three ride which is not worth it. Water body is filled with sewage water & smell from it is very bad. It makes it difficult to near by play area. It's a place not to visit. Waste of money & time.
Durga — Google review
The place is not maintained at all, don't waste your money going there. Most of the rides, or almost every ride is wrecked. The ones which are working are in the worst state possible. The garden is not maintained, cleanliness is far beyond imagination. It's better to sleep at home than visit this place.
Harsh M — Google review
Not recommended due to the unpleasant smell from a nearby drain. Many of the rides are in a dilapidated state, and the park lacks proper maintenance, leading to a disappointing experience. It sets a clear example of how poorly managed facilities can destroy the potential of a prime location in the heart of the city.
Tuna R — Google review
Terrible experience as not maintained by authorities. Hardly 2 or three rides are available which was not working due to power failure. Required to improve by authorities. Ticket price is 100 per person but not worth it. Timings of the park is changed to 11.30AM to 8.00 PM, but not updated in website.
Subrat S — Google review
Once upon a time this park used to have so many working rides. But now the ticket itself is stamped for only 4 rides. Out of three are functional. Rs. 100 to me seems a little too high for a govt. managed park. Staff is cooperative, but what can they do if the park itself is very poorly managed. Very few attendance even on a Sunday afternoon. The area reeks with the stench of a nearby drain canal. Being centrally located, most of the earnings probably comes from wedding receptions and functions like that. I hope the area is developed to provide a good place for kids to play and have fun, especially in present times, where most of them are glued to the screens.
Anurag S — Google review
Only if I could give 0 stars . Pure waste of money. This park is in shambles and completely worn out. There is nothing to see or enjoy here. Only 3 rides are working - water coaster, striking car and votex. Even these rides are in poor condition. Visitors will be welcomed by nasty drain smell and lot of mosquitos. For an entry fee of 100 rupees , only God knows where this money is being spent.there isn’t much crowd like it used to be several years ago. Now it is mostly deserted( visited on a Sunday morning). Hardly 20 people were there . Not worth it .

A very different kind of Kalinga temple , built in two levels to accomodate a very huge Lingam . A doorway in the lower level gives a view of the base , while the portal in the upper level allows darshan of the top . A flight of steps takes one to the upper level which has the koshta murtis or Parshva Devatas - Ganapathi , Karthikeya and Durga . The site is archeologically important because Mauryan age relics have been found here . There is a theory that the Lingam itself could be the stump of an Ashokan pillar . Premises is very well maintained and peaceful as not many visit this 12th century temple .

A must visit to discover and understand the tribal culture in Odisha! The museum is air-conditioned and covers different facets of the lives of various local tribes - clothing, weapons, household objects, food, painting/art, etc. The staff were very knowledgeable and provided insights into all the artefacts. Then there are many types of huts - each constructed at scale. Inside each are various object that the people used. It was interesting find a motion based audio description system inside each hut which played a recorded description upon moving the palm over the sensor! There's ample car parking space and the restroom was clean.

The Brahmeswara Temple, constructed in the 9th century under King Udyotakesari of the Somvasi dynasty, is a renowned Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Its elegant Kalinga-style architecture and ornate carvings make it a popular attraction for tourists and historians. The temple complex consists of a main shrine surrounded by four similar shrines, with doorways adorned with intricately carved figures and depictions of the nine planets in Indian astrology.
This is one if the most elaboratedly done temple in Bhubaneshwara. It has one main Shiva temple and four other small temples around it. The main temple has very breathtakingly beautiful carvings, which are mostly in good condition. As its a bit far from city center, many tourist do not come here, but you should not miss it.

The Brahmeswar Temple in Bhubaneswar is a masterpiece of Kalinga architecture, standing as a testament to Odisha’s rich heritage. Built in 1058 CE by Kolavati Devi, the mother of Somavamsi king Udyotakesari, this temple marks an important transition in temple design, showcasing intricate craftsmanship and artistic excellence. Carved out of sandstone, the temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and features breathtaking sculptures of celestial dancers, musicians, and mythological figures. The introduction of iron beams in construction and the first use of surasundaris (heavenly maidens) on temple walls make it a significant milestone in temple architecture. Surrounded by smaller shrines, Brahmeswar Temple’s sanctum enshrines a powerful Shiva Lingam, drawing devotees and history lovers alike. The temple’s rekha deul (curvilinear spire) and the exquisite nagara-style carvings tell stories of devotion, art, and cultural grandeur. Even after nearly a thousand years, it remains a serene and spiritual landmark in Bhubaneswar, the City of Temples.

A temple complex that'll take you back in time. Beautiful sculptures. Extremely peaceful place. Suggested visiting time would be golden hours or if you're going there during rainy days then you can visit in noon also. Also Do check my ig-atul_something as i have covered all the ancient temples of Bhubaneswar there & made sort of a catalogue.

The Brahmeshwar Temple, located in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, is a 9th-century temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Built in Kalinga-style architecture, it features an elaborate rekha deula (tower) and intricate carvings of divine figures, musicians, and dancers. The temple marks the transition to more elaborate Odishan temple designs, influencing later structures like Lingaraj Temple. The presence of tantric symbols suggests tantric worship was practiced here. Surrounded by smaller shrines, it holds deep religious and historical significance. Situated about 10 km from the city center, it is easily accessible by taxis, auto-rickshaws, and local buses, making it a must-visit heritage site.

It is situated near Acharya Vihar square. Here you can watch shows in three languages i.e.English,Hindi and Odia. The theme is mostly related to the Universe. Though they are charging money yet they are not paying attention for the renovation of the planetarium. The screening wall or display is working partially. Seats are not comfortable. Many seats are broken. The seating capacity is not for many people. So tickets are easily sold out

I did visit the place, but I saw a long queue for tickets. I didn’t think I’d be able to get one, so I just explored the surroundings and returned.I haven’t been inside, but I heard that the half of thr screens are broken, and the seats are damaged, which is an issue. However, the outside area is nice, and you can take a walk. For me, it’s just an okay place.

The Pathani Samanta Planetarium offers an okay, but dated, experience, excelling with its immersive space shows and suitable for families and young children interested in astronomy, but suffering from uncomfortable and damaged seating, weak presentation, and partial operation of exhibits. Visitors should confirm show languages, as shows are available in Odia, Hindi, and English, and enjoy the astronomy park with a sundial in the campus. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5] Pros • Immersive Shows: The planetarium provides shows that can feel very realistic, taking you on journeys through space without the need for 3D glasses. [1, 3] • Educational Focus: It's a great place for children and anyone interested in learning about space, planets, and the universe. [2, 6] • Astronomy Park: The campus features an astronomy park with a statue of Pathani Samanta and a sundial, offering something to see outside the shows. [5] • Multi-lingual Shows: Shows are available in Odia, Hindi, and English, making them accessible to a wider audience. [3, 4] Cons • Outdated and Neglected: The planetarium appears to have fallen into neglect, with broken seats, partially defunct displays, and a lack of renovation. [3, 4] • Uncomfortable Seating: Many visitors find the seating uncomfortable and old, making it difficult to stay awake during the shows. [2, 3, 6] • Weak Presentation: While the visuals can be good, the overall presentation of information is often described as weak or boring, leading to a lack of engagement for some viewers. [3, 6] • Limited Activities: Beyond the main show, there are few other activities or updated exhibits to experience. [5, 6] Tips for Visitors • Confirm Show Language: Before buying tickets, confirm the language of the show to ensure it's one you can understand. [3] • Go with Kids: The planetarium is best suited for children and young families who will enjoy the space-themed content. [2, 6] • Consider Alternatives: If you are looking for a fully updated and immersive scientific experience, you might find better options elsewhere. [1, 6]

Its a good planetarium with some small issues which can be fixed. The planetarium is quite old and need immediate maintainance. The chairs are wooden one might feel like it break when u push it back, it always create sound. Whole 30 min i heard chair sound more then actual show voice. Overall the show was good and informative, i felt they can increase the brightness little more. The show time is from 2 to 5 pm. But they sometime increase the shows as per demand. Ticket u will get only from counter in cash. No online booking. Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Park, located near Gundamunda Chowk in Bhubaneswar, is a serene and less-visited park that offers a romantic ambiance with its sprinkling fountains and flower beds. Couples can enjoy quality time together amidst the beautiful gardens. The park also provides spaces for yoga and meditation, making it an ideal spot for relaxation. Families can have a great day out here, as the park features play areas for children and quiet spots to unwind.
Out of all the parks in Bhubaneswar, this is the best, it is very clean. This is the best thing. Not many people visit this place and it is situated in a very good location.Whenever I feel like passing the time amidst nature, I come here. There are very good tracks for walking here and there is also a gym for kids to play and exercise which is very good.

This park is beautiful. When I visited for my morning walk, it seemed it was still under construction. There are walking trails, open gyms, swings and activities for children too. It has two walking/running trails. The longer one is approximately 700m and another one which is about two thirds of it's length. Cleanliness was maintained and the crowd was family friendly in the morning.

Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Park was created to honour the memory of one of the greatest freedom fighters of our country, Subhash Chandra Bose. The pathways, light systems, jogging tracks, sprinklers, play areas, benches, spaces for yoga and meditation India The Netaji Subash Chandra Bose Park in Bhubaneswar, Telegraph pictures Bhubaneswar, Dec. 19: Spread over 17 acres of prime land, Netaji Subash Chandra Bose Park in Gandamunda had everything that could have made it the ultimate destination for the city’s young and old looking for a place to recreate and do some physical exercises. In reality, however, the park, which seems to have gone to seed over the years with unkempt lawns, a badly eroded jogging track and generally unclean surroundings, hardly witnesses any footfall. The poor lighting and the absence of boundary wall on the one side of the park have only made matters worse. Established in 1998, the park once had grand plans for installing a statue of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose with a fountain around it. Now the entire area is covered with wild bushes with venomous snakes hiding here and there. Md Sarfaz Alam, an electrical contractor who lives in the area, said that such is the fear of snakes that people don’t dare to enter the park during summer and the rainy season. The gates of the park remain closed almost always and the only security man guarding the place has not received his salary for the past two years. “The park opens according to his whims,” Alam added. etc. provide added beauty to the park. The pathways, light systems, strolling tracks, sprinklers and so on. Admitting that the park was suffering on account of indifference, the official said that some of the installations like fountains had stopped working as repairs did not take place on time. Large benches are located for the duration of the park to permit human beings sit and revel in the environment of the park. The clean air of the vicinity mixed with the desirable greenery could make all and sundry’s coronary heart wander and force him to stay lower back a touch longer inside the park. For many of us in Bhubaneswar, Janta Maidan is more than just a green space; it's a landmark we've grown up with. As kids, we might have run around its open grounds, enjoying the simple pleasure of space in a developing city. Even now, it remains a popular spot for morning walks and evening strolls, offering a breath of fresh air away from the urban bustle. The park is dedicated to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, a towering figure in India's independence movement, and it's a fitting tribute. The well-maintained pathways, the trees providing shade, and the benches scattered around offer a peaceful environment to reflect and perhaps remember his contributions. The gentle lighting in the evenings adds to its charm. However, Janta Maidan's identity extends beyond just being a park. It's the city's go-to venue for large-scale events. I've attended numerous trade fairs, cultural melas (like the Toshali Mela), and exhibitions here over the years. During these events, the atmosphere transforms completely. The grounds come alive with vibrant stalls, bustling crowds, and the sounds of commerce and celebration. It's a place where you can find everything from traditional handicrafts and handlooms to the latest consumer goods. The annual India International Mega Trade Fair is a particularly big draw. It's interesting how this space seamlessly transitions between a tranquil park for daily recreation and a dynamic hub for major city events. This versatility makes Janta Maidan a truly important and recognizable place in Bhubaneswar. While it might not have elaborate landscaping or amusement rides like some other parks, its open expanse and its role as a central event ground give it a unique character and a special place in the hearts of the locals. We see it not just as a park, but as a vital part of Bhubaneswar's social and cultural fabric.

Ekamra Kanan Botanical Gardens is a sprawling 500-acre park located just 2 km from the city center of Bhubaneswar. It's the largest botanical garden in the city and offers a diverse range of attractions, including a rose garden, cactus collection, musical fountain, and a picturesque lake where visitors can enjoy paddle boating.
One of the best parks in Bhubaneswar, this spacious park has recently undergone several upgrades, especially in the children's play area. It now features multiple slides and swings, making it a great spot for kids. A water fountain has also been added, which typically starts operating after 4:00 PM. Another highlight is the newly inaugurated Cactus House, opened by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha, Shri Mohan Charan Majhi. The park has an entry fee, which likely helps in maintaining a peaceful and less crowded environment. Inside the park, you’ll also find a Koraput Coffee outlet that offers coffee, millet cookies, and millet cake at reasonable prices. Entry Fees: Car Parking: ₹40 Adults: ₹40 Children: ₹15
Santanu B — Google review
It's a large park. The day I went it was raining. The lake is in a poor condition; needs cleaning. None of the flower specific gardens were in bloom which is okay since they are seasonal. Some gardens were in a state of disrepair. The cactus house was okay okay - needs more color and variety. The hyacinth pond also needs maintenance and it could be a really good photo spot. The trees are the best part and the birds too. There's a coffe place inside but it was closed the day I went. Entry fee is 40/- rupees per person. It can really be much better than what it is. Gardens and parks are a must in cities and should be diligently maintained by government and civic bodies.

The Botanical Garden is spread over 200 to 500 acres of area with beautiful surroundings and scenery of flowers. Great for families, solo trips and couples. The surroundings are very silent and peaceful, which makes it one of the best spots for solo trips. The ticket price is also minimal and extra charges for the plastic bottles(in cash only). I have visited this park quite a few times and there is always an ice-cream guy & a panipuri guy outside the park. The park is well spacious, very friendly for walks, adults and teenagers. It normally would take 15-18 mins for a complete walk. Although won’t suggest going there, extra late nights since it gets a little darker but the perfect time would be the evenings. People living nearby should visit this place at least once! 💯

In the mornings, connecting gates between Ekamra Kanan and RPRC are opened, allowing visitors to take long walks that can span 2 to 3 kilometers through a beautifully maintained natural setting. The park is especially popular during its annual flower exhibition, which showcases a stunning variety of blooms and attracts many visitors. One of the unique aspects of Ekamra Kanan is its proximity to the Bharatpur Forest area. Because of this, visitors occasionally spot peacocks roaming freely and, on rare occasions, even elephants can be seen near the forest edge. Though boating was once available in the small lake inside the park, it has been discontinued for now. Still, Ekamra Kanan remains an excellent spot for morning walks, light exercise, picnics, and spending quiet time in nature.

The Shree Mukteswara Temple in Bhubaneswar is a remarkable 10th-century Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is celebrated for its stunning Kalinga architecture, intricate artwork, and ornate carvings depicting various Hindu deities. The temple's architectural features include a beautifully arched entrance and exquisite stone sculptures adorning the walls.
We were pleasantly surprised here. The temple complex is so beautiful, a nice garden and pond makes the setting so charming. The carvings of temple are well maintained and surprisingly this place is not overcrowded and have no con artist.

Mukteshwar Temple is one of the most beautiful and historic temples in Bhubaneswar, truly living up to the city’s title of “Temple City of India.” The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is a stunning example of ancient Kalinga architecture. The intricate carvings on the walls and the elegant torana (arched gateway) are absolutely mesmerizing — it feels like every stone here tells a story. The surroundings are clean and peaceful, making it a perfect place to spend some quiet, spiritual time. The temple is not very crowded, so you can really enjoy the serene atmosphere and detailed sculptures. It’s also a great spot for photography and for anyone interested in history and architecture. Located near other famous temples like Rajarani and Parsurameswar, it’s easy to explore all together. Overall, Mukteshwar Temple is a must-visit for anyone coming to Bhubaneswar — calm, sacred, and artistically breathtaking! 🙏✨

The temple is historical and the garden is well maintained. The shoes are kept outside the Temple Gate and then you can see the temple and the idols kept inside it.
Shikha S — Google review
Mukteshwara Temple in Bhubaneswar is one of the most beautiful and artistically refined temples in Odisha, often called the **“Gem of Odisha architecture.”** Built around the 10th century, this temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is a masterpiece of the early Kalinga style. Though small in size compared to temples like Lingaraja, it stands out for its stunning carvings, elegant structure, and iconic **arched torana (gateway)**, which is considered one of the finest stone arches in Indian temple architecture. The temple walls are decorated with intricate sculptures of dancers, ascetics, animals, floral patterns, and mythological figures, reflecting both devotion and artistic excellence. The *Mukteshwara* name signifies “Lord of Freedom,” and the temple is believed to represent spiritual liberation. The peaceful surroundings, well-maintained premises, and minimal crowds make it a perfect place to sit quietly, admire ancient craftsmanship, and take photographs. The temple complex also includes a beautiful tank and smaller shrines, adding to its charm. Unlike many large temples, Mukteshwara feels intimate and serene, with no commercial rush or noise, making it ideal for heritage lovers, architecture students, and photographers. Entry is free, and the temple is open to all. It is also one of the main highlights of the famous **Mukteswar Dance Festival**, held every year in January, where classical Odissi performances take place in the temple courtyard under the open sky. Overall, Mukteshwara Temple is a must-visit for anyone exploring Bhubaneswar—not just for its religious value but for its artistic perfection, calm environment, and historical importance. It feels like a timeless stone poem carved with devotion and elegance.

Amazing architectural marvel. The carvings are very intricate; built in the Kalinga style (Kalinga kingdom=Ashokas empire 12th C). It has an eternal spring at the back. Very Beautiful complex housing Siddeshwar n Muktheshwar. Kedar Gouri is also near by.

Located in the heart of Bhubaneswar, the Mukteshwar Temple is one of the finest examples of ancient Odisha-style (Kalinga) temple architecture. Dating back to the 10th century, this small yet artistically rich temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva (Mukteshwar Mahadev). Though not very large, every inch of the temple is beautifully carved — from intricate floral patterns to scenes from mythology. The iconic arched torana (gateway) at the entrance is unique and unmatched in design among Indian temples, giving it the nickname “Gem of Odisha architecture.” The temple is peaceful and less crowded, making it ideal for quiet exploration, photography, or spiritual reflection. It’s also part of the famous “Ekamra Kshetra” — the old temple city area, and is located near other historical temples like Rajarani and Lingaraj.
Priyanka S — Google review
This temple is well maintained. Usually photos and videos are not allowed in many functioning temples. Fortunately it is allowed here. Puri, Lingraj temple are also built on same architecture. There are many deities in the same temple complex. The same concept is found in south east Asia temples. But most of them are not functional (E.g central Java, Cambodia)

Vegetarian restaurant
Marwari Rasoi is a small, no-frills restaurant in Bhubaneswar that offers vegetarian Marwari and Rajasthani regional cuisine. The place is known for its authentic North Indian flavors, with dishes like Rajasthani Gatta, Rajasthani Chole, Aloo Mutter, and various types of parathas. The restaurant has a homely atmosphere with clean surroundings and affordable prices.
good service with reasonable prices and on time food delivery ... #must and should try
Tarun B — Google review
it's a veg only restaurant (with onion & garlic 😍). The taste is really good and also is served in ample quantity. Wait time is also less, the place is huge with many tables, don't go there for the atmosphere but for the quality of food. The price is higher than average and deservedly. Also around infocity square it's probably the one of the very few good places for veg items.
Arnav D — Google review
One of the best veg restaurant in Infocity area. Price is too higher than others. Here you can go for both Onion Garlic & Without Onion Garlic options. Usually busy place at lunch time.
PABITRA C — Google review
Tried Marwari Rasoi – Special Thali Experience We tried their special thali, which came with a variety of colorful items. The kadhi lacked the desired thickness and flavor, and the tamatar sabzi was not up to the mark. Other items in the thali were just average. On the brighter side, the raita and kesar ice cream were quite good and refreshing. We also added their aamras, which was okay but nothing special. Overall: A mixed experience – good presentation, but the taste could be better in several dishes.
Priyanka K — Google review
Food: Overall fine, with a few dishes that definitely taste very good. Service: Decent, nothing to complain about but nothing outstanding either. Atmosphere: Average. The tables inside could use better lighting, as it feels a bit dim. One concern, however, is the pricing. In a short span, prices have gone up twice — first with a base price increase, and now with an additional service tax. As someone who visits this place quite often, I don’t feel this step is justified when the food, service, and overall experience remain the same. If prices are being raised, one would naturally expect improvements in service or atmosphere to match this. Maybe improvements are already planned for the future, but introducing price hikes before visible changes doesn’t feel justified. Enhancements made first, followed by a price increase, would be much more welcomed.

While this pure-veg restaurant offers good food with lots of vegetarian choices, there are several drawbacks. The aloo paratha is tasty but overpriced at ₹55, and the cost keeps increasing every few months. Service is often slow, leading to long waits. On top of that, the billing is inconsistent — sometimes taxes are included, sometimes not — which makes the pricing confusing.
Nitish K — Google review
A nice place for vegetarian people. It was a Tuesday and we were looking for some vegetarian restaurant so that we can eat the meal peacefully without the fear of it being mixed with some non veg dish, we ordered a special thali and the food was sufficient for two of us. The food was fresh and served in clean utensils. Their staffs are very friendly and cooperative, keeping the place clean and hygiene. When we went there the place was nearly full and after eating we understood the reason behind so many people inside. Any vegetarian people can come and eat here without hesitation . They prepare and serve on time, no unnecessary delay . Price was also budget friendly so we are planning to pay a visit again to this place
Sangya M — Google review
I recently tried Marwari Rasoi on Infocity Road and really liked the experience. The food has a very homely touch with authentic Marwari/Rajasthani flavours, and the thali is definitely worth trying if you want a filling meal. The place is pure vegetarian, reasonably priced, and the portions are satisfying. The ambience is simple and nothing fancy, but the food makes up for it. Service can get a little slow during rush hours, so best to go a bit early. Overall, it’s a good spot if you’re craving wholesome vegetarian food in the Patia/Infocity area.

Indian art consists of a variety of art forms, including painting, sculpture, pottery, and textile arts such as woven silk. Geographically, it spans the entire Indian subcontinent, including what is now India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan and eastern Afghanistan. A strong sense of design is characteristic of Indian art and can be observed in its modern and traditional forms. The origin of Indian art can be traced to pre-historic settlements in the 3rd millennium BC. On its way to modern times, Indian art has had cultural influences, as well as religious influences such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism and Islam. In spite of this complex mixture of religious traditions, generally, the prevailing artistic style at any time and place has been shared by the major religious groups. In historic art, sculpture in stone and metal, mainly religious, has survived the Indian climate better than other media and provides most of the best remains. Many of the most important ancient finds that are not in carved stone come from the surrounding, drier regions rather than India itself. Indian funeral and philosophic traditions exclude grave goods, which is the main source of ancient art in other cultures. Indian artist styles historically followed Indian religions out of the subcontinent, having an especially large influence in Tibet, South East Asia and China. Indian art has itself received influences at times, especially from Central Asia and Iran, and Europe.

Situated in Info city Road, the spacious and relaxed ambiance makes it an ideal choice for small gatherings or parties. The menu boasts flavorful dishes with robust doses of spices, such as dried chilies, salt, pepper, and fragrant garlic.
We recently visited 99 North Restaurant and tried the Murg Bagdadi Masala along with Butter Garlic Naan. The taste was absolutely top-notch — rich, flavorful, and satisfying. The gravy was thick and aromatic, perfectly balanced with spices, and came with four well-cooked pieces of chicken. The Butter Garlic Naan complemented the dish beautifully, enhancing the overall experience. Highly recommended for anyone craving a hearty North Indian meal!

I recently dined at 99 North and had a very positive experience overall. The ambiance was amazing—the restaurant has a great atmosphere that makes dining enjoyable. The staff were very polite and attentive, contributing to a welcoming environment. The food was tasty and prepared well. However, due to the number of people dining, our food delivery was a little delayed. While this was a minor drawback, the overall good taste of the food definitely made up for the slight wait. 99 North: A Flavorful Delight I recently had the pleasure of dining at 99 North and was thoroughly impressed. The Veg Hot and Sour Soup was equally enjoyable, with a tangy kick that was just right. For our mains, we opted for the American Corn Salt and Pepper and Veg Fried Rice. Both dishes were cooked to perfection and packed with flavor. The Chilli Panner Gravy was a rich and creamy accompaniment that complemented the other dishes beautifully. The service at 99 North was impeccable. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. Overall, I highly recommend 99 North for anyone looking for a delicious and satisfying dining experience.

Cafe
Adda Cafe is a place that caters to all taste buds, providing both small and large portion sizes. Their focus is on creating high-quality food with simple yet elegant flavors. The menu showcases a variety of dishes, offering originality and inspiration in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. From North Indian cuisine to Mexican and Chinese specialties, there's something for everyone here.
The atmosphere is not like the popular aesthetic cafes around the city, but this place remains a classic place for great food. Loved the Lasagna, perfectly baked and cheesy. Also the Sandwich was creamy and filling. Overall it's an amazing experience to be here. Great staff and service as well.
Priyanka N — Google review
I usually love their E-Fu noodles, but this time they were served cold, which was disappointing. The atmosphere was also underwhelming, with an unpleasant odor and an overall lackluster ambiance, which didn’t make for an enjoyable experience. On the bright side, the staff were friendly and attentive. It might be better to visit their other outlet for a more pleasant experience.
Riakshi — Google review
Ordered chicken drums of heaven (half) , and chicken biryani (mini) through Zomato. Food taste : excellent for drums of heaven but ok in case of biryani (it was a fried biryani) Cost 💲: very reasonable Quantity : Good I would love to try some more dishes from this place .👍🫶🏻

Honestly speaking, The place is very nice and has a very beautiful environment. The staff are also very friendly and cooperative, We asked them to recommend some food, they recommended Alfredo pasta which is heaven 😍, I would personally recommend it. The service is very good, they serve the food on time... We didn't have to wait for long. Coming to the ambience, it's very lovely, most importantly the place is very neat and clean. A must go place!!!

The ADDA restaurant is a nice place to spend time with family. The atmosphere is warm and comfortable, and the seating works well for groups. The food is tasty with a variety of options that everyone can enjoy, from snacks to full meals. Service is polite and attentive, making the overall experience pleasant. A good choice for a relaxed family outing.
Md A — Google review
The food and quantity were satisfactory, but the billing experience was disappointing. The restaurant seemed to overcharge in the name of GST, and when I questioned it, the staff argued instead of addressing the issue. Transparency and good service are just as important as good food. They are just fooling the customers.
Anwesa S — Google review
We had ordered chicken lasagna, butter chicken pasta and Alfredo pasta. The taste was amazing. The pasta was perfectly al dente. The quantity did justice to the price. The main dining space was well lit and the aesthetic was adhered to. They also had an open windowed space for celebrations and smoking. However, the staff was ignorant. And that was the only downside.
Stutee S — Google review
The food and portion sizes were overall quite good. However, I was disappointed with the billing experience — there seemed to be an overcharge in the name of GST and when I raised the concern, the staff argued instead of resolving it. This really affected the overall dining experience.

Nestled in the serene Dhauli Hills near Bhubaneswar, the Kalinga War Battlefield is a site steeped in profound historical significance. This location marks the scene of the notorious Kalinga War that took place in 261 B.C.E., a pivotal moment that transformed Emperor Ashoka from a fierce conqueror into an advocate for peace and Buddhism.
Place of serenity, and place which changed the mind of Great emperor Ashoka not to fight further and brought an instinct towards Buddhism.
Damodaran R — Google review
The Kalinga War Battlefield, located in Dhauli near Bhubaneswar, is a site of immense historical significance. It marks the location of the infamous Kalinga War (261 BCE), one of the bloodiest battles in history, which led to Emperor Ashoka’s transformation from a conqueror to a proponent of peace and Buddhism. Today, it is a peaceful spot that invites visitors to reflect on its historical and cultural importance. --- Historical Significance The Kalinga War was a turning point in Indian history. The massive loss of life and devastation deeply moved Emperor Ashoka, prompting him to renounce violence and embrace Buddhism. This battlefield is not just a historical landmark but also a symbol of transformation, peace, and compassion. Key Attractions 1. Ashokan Edicts: These ancient inscriptions in Brahmi script, carved on rocks, convey Ashoka’s principles of non-violence and ethical governance. They serve as a timeless reminder of his Dhamma (law of righteousness). 2. Dhauli Shanti Stupa (Peace Pagoda): Built atop Dhauli Hill, the stupa commemorates Ashoka's commitment to peace. Its serene white dome and Buddha sculptures make it a spiritual haven. 3. Rock-Cut Elephant: A life-sized rock-cut sculpture of an elephant near the edicts symbolizes Ashoka’s conversion to Buddhism. It is believed to be one of the earliest Buddhist sculptures in India. --- Scenic Beauty The battlefield is surrounded by the Daya River, whose serene flow contrasts with the violent history of the site. The lush greenery, combined with panoramic views from Dhauli Hill, offers a tranquil escape for visitors. --- Accessibility The Kalinga War Battlefield is about 8 km from Bhubaneswar and is easily accessible by road. Well-maintained pathways and signage guide visitors through the site. --- Facilities Parking: Ample space is available at the base of Dhauli Hill. Shops: Small stalls selling souvenirs, snacks, and beverages can be found nearby. Guides: Local guides provide insights into the history and significance of the site. --- Best Time to Visit Winter (October to February): The cool weather is ideal for exploring. Early mornings or late afternoons provide the best views and a more peaceful atmosphere. --- Nearby Attractions Shanti Stupa: A must-visit for its spiritual ambiance and stunning architecture. Lingaraj Temple: A revered Hindu temple in Bhubaneswar. Udayagiri and Khandagiri Caves: Ancient Jain rock-cut caves located nearby. --- Tips for Visitors Wear comfortable footwear, as exploring the area involves walking. Spend time reading the inscriptions and understanding their significance. Visit the Shanti Stupa for a holistic experience of the site. --- Overall Experience The Kalinga War Battlefield is a poignant reminder of history and a celebration of peace. Its blend of historical importance, cultural significance, and natural beauty makes it a must-visit destination. It not only educates visitors about the past but also inspires them with the message of transformation and compassion.

Kalinga War Battlefield in Dhauli is few kilometers away from the capital city of Odisha - Bhubaneswar. Here king Ashoka of Magadha (Bihar) attacked the kingdom of Kalinga (Odisha) and fought a heinous war to capture it. The adjacent Daya river was the place for drowning dead bodies of opponent soldiers so at the end of the river, the river turned red and got the name of 'Raktaganga'. At this, Ashoka changed his mind, took Buddhism and became the worshiper of piece.

Ashish T — Google review
“I visited Jaydev Vatika Square near Khandagiri with my family and we had a delightful time. The park is spacious and well-kept, with lush greenery, gentle water features and plenty of shaded pathways that make for a very soothing ambience. The picnic zones are well designed and it’s easy to spend a few hours here just relaxing or strolling. Entrance is very affordable and parking is ample. A few points to keep in mind: on weekends the area can get busy, food options are somewhat limited so it’s wise to carry snacks, and if you venture into the deeper parts you might encounter insects or even snakes so keep children in view. Overall it’s one of the better nature retreats within Bhubaneswar — great for families, couples or anyone wanting a calm break from the city bustle.” **Why it’s worth visiting:** * Great for escaping city noise and reconnecting with nature. * Beautifully landscaped with water-features and meadows – a photographer’s modest paradise. * Affordable entry and family-friendly environment. **Areas of improvement / things to know:** * Weekends and holidays see heavier crowds — for more peace, try a weekday morning. * Food and refreshment options inside are limited; bringing your own snacks helps. * Some remote-natural areas inside the park have less oversight — insects and snakes have been reported, so keep an eye on kids. **Summary:** If you’re in Bhubaneswar and want a low-stress, nature-rich outing spot, Jaydev Vatika Square is definitely worth your time. With thoughtful planning (especially regarding snacks and timing), it’s a solid choice for a refreshing experience.

Hindu temple
Nestled in the serene surroundings of Bhubaneswar, the Chitrakarini Temple is a hidden gem that showcases the rich artistic heritage of ancient India. Dedicated to Goddess Chitrakarini, who embodies wisdom as Goddess Saraswati, this temple dates back to the 7th century and reflects exquisite craftsmanship through its intricate sculptures. Although it may not be as widely recognized as other temples, its tranquil atmosphere invites visitors to explore its beauty and historical significance.
Typical structure with four small temples at four corners of main temple...which is temple of Devi Chitrakarini.Intricate carvings on outer walls....but many of them in wonout/damaged condition....looks like stone quality problem.

Chitrakarini (a form of Devi Saraswati) It is small temple complex built in 13th Century. It is located next to the northern side of Lingaraja temple. The complex is well maintained having nice landscape is also there. you will observe the peaceful mind if you spend sitting and praying. The east faced main temple of it is surrounded by four subsidiary temples.

I was totally in love with this temple. Such beauty, such grace, so much of intricate architecture. As if I wanted to spend more of my time here. All the greenery and the yellow blooming flowers were adding so much charm to the ethereal beauty of the temple. A must visit for sure. It’s located in the same compound of Lingaraj Temple.

R R — Google review
Chitrakarini Temple is located approximately 75m east of Papanasini Temple Complex on Rath Road in Bhubaneswar, right next to northern Lingaraja Temple compound wall. The east-facing temple is built in the panchayatana layout, with a central main temple accompanied by four smaller subsidiary shrines. The temples are set within a pretty and well manicured garden that is maintained by the ASI. North lintel frieze of Jagamohana window depicting Krishna playing his flute amidst enchanted followers and listening cattle The temple is thought to have been constructed around the middle of the 13th century A.D. This potentially suggests it could have been instigated by the Ganga dynasty king Narasingha Deva I (also known as Parama Mahesvara) who reigned over the kingdom of Kalinga (ancient Odisha) between circa 1238 and 1264 A.D. This is the same ruler who is attributed as the builder of the Sun Temple at Konark. The temple’s name is derived from the Goddess Chitrakarini, a Sanskrit term that roughly translates to “Paintress”. She is a form of the Goddess Saraswati, who is regarded as the prime goddess of knowledge and creative expression.
Shakti N — Google review
The Chitreswar temple, otherwise known as Chitrakarini is situated to the North of the Lingaraj temple within a close distance. It has four smaller temples in the four corners of the compound. It is a saptaratha temple and is one of the most beautifully decorated monuments. Within the sanctum a chamunda image is worshipped.
