Pub
The Thorn Tree Inn is a charming and award-winning small traditional pub located in Matlock, offering stunning views of the Derwent Valley. The warm and friendly atmosphere, along with the outstanding range of real ales including TTs Landlord, makes it a go-to local spot for both visitors and locals alike. The inn also features heated outdoor canopy, welcomes dogs, hosts darts teams, and serves homemade food at certain times.
Decided to visit this pub after arriving in Matlock on the train. Long climb up a very steep hill which took about 20 minutes walking. It was worth it. Lovely little pub with two bar rooms, and outdoor seating with fantastic views over Matlock, and out to Riber Castle. Service was welcoming and efficient, and the beer was well kept - a nice pint of Old Trip by Hardy and Hanson, along with a substantial chip butty.

Traditional pub hidden away in the upper part of Matlock. Cosy set up with cracking views out front. Greene king pub serving a few different ales. Recommended 🍻

Really nice pub with good beers and a great view. Friendly service.

Friendly with a good range to keep you entertained and coming back. A hidden gem on the hillside above Matlock.
Craig P — Google review
Amazing views make the journey up the hill to the Thorn Tree worth it. Surprisingly small but beautiful interior, and the outside seating is perfect to take in the view. It is currently a Greeneking pub and while they have several guests on, the real ale choice is .... a bit regional. External pristine quaint toilets.

Excellent place with great views outside, fantastic food, and great coffee! Lovely friendly service. We will definitely be visiting again. Thank you 🙏

Cosy pub tucked away up the hills in Matlock. Greene King pub with a good selection of real ales. Friendly staff and locals. The terrace at the front is a great place to have a pint and watch the sun go down.

Remarkable Hare is a traditional neighborhood pub and restaurant that offers hearty homemade pub fare and cocktails. The menu features a variety of dishes such as 16oz Chateau for two, rib eye, heart of the rump, sirloin with different sauce options, tapas like patatas bravas and BBQ pulled pork arancini, as well as classic pub dishes including fish and chips and local ale pie.
Came here with a large group of friends today. We had pre ordered our food in advance so service was really quick. The restaurant is very light and airy with a lovely feeling. There's a great choice on the menu with some interesting options. The food was absolutely delicious with massive portion sizes. The pizzas are almost big enough for 2. Recommend the Pecan pie for dessert. Prices were good and about what you'd expect. Staff are all so helpful and friendly.
Hannah W — Google review
Popped in with my partner after a long day in the sun, everything was superb! Great selection of drinks including good cider options which is a bonus in my book! We had 2 of the tapas dishes to start which were delicious!! Followed by the toad in the hole and a roast pizza sandwich. Finished up with the cheesecake of the day ( white chocolate and biscof) which was phenomenal! The portion sizes are incredible and the food is beautiful! Staff are super friendly making you feel welcome and at ease straight away. We will absolutely be back again soon!
Shauni W — Google review
Absolutely amazing food, large portions, good prices and a very creative menu which I loved. Located in the beautiful Matlock, there are plenty of things to do before, or after your meal. Staff were lovely and very accommodating. It was busy, but not enough to impact service, or your meal. Very well managed. Highly recommend the fish and chips sharing board!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Absolutely Fantastic! We popped into The Remarkable Hare in Matlock for a bite to eat before starting the journey home after a lovely couple of days away — and we’re so glad we did! We both ordered a roast dinner; my girlfriend had the gammon ham, and I went for the roast beef. Each came with a perfectly crisp Yorkshire pudding, beautifully roasted vegetables, and all the trimmings. Honestly, these were probably the most amazing roast dinners we’ve ever had — cooked to perfection and bursting with flavour. To drink, my girlfriend enjoyed two glasses of wine, and I had a pint of Neck Oil, which was perfectly poured. Adding to the atmosphere was a fantastic live performer playing guitar in the corner — a brilliant touch that made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Warm, welcoming, and full of charm — The Remarkable Hare really lives up to its name. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in Matlock!
Ryan R — Google review
Cute setting and they're definitely making an effort towards a gastropub. Very generous portions but the food was a bit hit and miss. The pork tenderloin was superb and we were recommended the disco fries so we tried that but weren't too impressed. We had the Korean fried chicken disco fries and I honestly have never had fried chicken with such thick hard batter. The batter was a bit unpleasant and almost as much as the chicken itself. The sauce was also a bit too sweet and unbalanced in flavour profile. It was harnished with deep fried kale which was just inedible, like trying to chew through plastic. Similar for the camembert bites, the breading was just too thick and hard and made it difficult to enjoy the dish. That said the other dishes were good and the service was excellent. We would go again to try different items.

Just had the most amazing breakfast at the Remarkable Hare. Amazing quality ingredients, lovely staff, great atmosphere. We also happened to drop lucky with a 50% off the food, introductory offer for the first month, which we were totally unaware of! Even at full price this was worth it. Thank you very much
Louise R — Google review
Very nice pub with a steampunk feel. We had the Cheesy Hare loaded fries which was a huge portion and very tasty with sriracha mayo. Prices for food are average for the area and the draught beer is very reasonably priced. The staff were lovely and very welcoming.

Me, my girlfriend and dog popped in for dinner and couldn't have picked a better place! Smiley and helpful staff, fast and delicious food and great prices! Had a dog station with treats, water, bowls, toys and even matts. Staff even brought treats to our dog, and offered water. 5 stars all round from Scotland :)

An excellent first time experience. A warm friendly welcome. Great menu choices, we had the sharing nachos & Sunday roast all the food was amazing and good sized portions. Our server/waitress Kelly, was very friendly with a faultless great service, thank you. we will be back, 100% recommend.

Well well well my friends have I got a review for you , this was our first trip to the gate inn and wow was we satisfied, what actually happened we was so hungry and ordered starters of cheesy garlic bread and cheesy onion rings ( yes I’m a cheese monster lol ) and wow when it came for the two of us it was huge so we had to cancel our mains before the chef started cooking as we wouldn’t of managed it now this was our fault as we don’t normally have starters and mains we just got over hungry but the experience was so enjoyable the staff was so so lovely and happy and just they way they spoke to you and helped with anything they really enjoyed being in that industry and it showed as they were so busy but never got flustered or stressed they just worked in harmony with each other and I just felt so happy and really wanted my main course but wouldn’t of managed it but this won’t be our only visit not by a long shot , we hadn’t even booked and it was packed but they found us a table no problem and was not annoyed as we just walked in they just wanted to help us have a lovely Saturday night and that’s exactly what happened, the menu is fantastic and all the meals we saw going out just made your mouth water even though I haven’t tasted much you could tell all the food would not be a disappointment so please my fellow friends give this place a try it’s so beautiful inside plenty of outside area and a play park for the kids and also dog friendly so what more could you ask for it’s the whole package and much much more

My wife and I visited here while on a weekend break in Matlock Bath. My wife is Coeliac so we had to find somewhere with a good Gluten Free menu. This place hit all the right buttons. The choice of GF options was really good (see photo), the service was friendly and professional and the food was amazing. We will certainly be back on our next visit to the area.

Excellent place to get a good bite to eat. The pizzas are amazing and highly recommend. It gets busy quickly around the usually times.

The best steak and ale pie ive eaten in ages.good size slice of pie not an individual one pastry was delicious and not soggy at all packed out with proper chunks of meat.veg cooked a little al dente but tasty.the place is calming ,spacious and has air con which is needed in june. Husband had lasagna which also was very good, maybe a little small but overall very good.will deffo be back to try the fillet steak skewers
Helen E — Google review
Wow... This restaurant is top notch. The food was amazing soo tasty. The staff were very attentive very welcoming nothing was to much trouble. Highly recommend!!
Kerry G — Google review
The ultimate combination of food and drink. Timmy Taylor and steak and ale pie. Right proper. The service was delivered by a team of super efficient young ladies. The pie, such a small word for this culinary masterpiece, was shortcrust pastry cuddling tender steak and gravy. A separate pot of gravy was very welcome. Vegetables actually had some flavour. I even ate some sprouts. Dipped in gravy, they resembled human food close enough to bypass my gag reflex. The one lost point was due to the size of the pub, more like a giant restaurant than a peak pub.
Ranbir H — Google review
Late lunch there today. Plenty of parking and warm welcome. Table service with large menu with some house specialities. Good quality food in a modern setting. Friendly staff and reasonable prices. Can recommend.

Love the guy behind the bar. Very friendly and cheering person. Best service and chilled atmosphere.its a cafe bar with a rustic feel. Good for live music at the weekends. Pool table for some extra fun with friends. Been there just for a drink and ended up at 6 because the craft beer variety was very nice. You can say good collection if not the best one. Worth to try if you are in town.

Decent coffee, nice atmosphere inside - outdoor seating as well which is nice if the suns out. Didn’t eat - but food did look pretty good and well priced, as did the cocktail menu - will have to pop back another time.

I didn’t eat here as I just popped in for a G&T, but I really enjoyed my visit. Staff were friendly and I was made to feel welcome. It was quiet when I visited, but I can imagine the pub gets very busy at the weekend.

Nipped in for a few drinks and snacks. Great ale and choices of cocktails which was really yummy. Had some cheesy chips and pork pie, 10/10! Little wait on the food but it was very busy in there. Fun decor. Really like it here!
Katie — Google review
Ok, so we continue our journey. The wine bar has left much to be desired so you cross the road. You’ve heard rumours they’ve got the vocation on draught. The rumours are confirmed and the pint is delicious. You get a side of cheesy chips and really settle in. Half of the pint is down and you realise, oh, I need a wee. You pootle on over to the ladies toilets. You arrive; you’re greeted with the most overwhelming stench of piss. Hmmm, no thanks. Nevertheless you still need to empty your bladder so you accept your fate. You sit down, oh, no lock on the door. One unsettling minute later, you’ve emptied your bladder and you’re back to drink your vocation; hoping it’s enough to blur your bathroom experience.
Darcie — Google review
Nice variety of beer that changes. Cask and keg lines of craft beer but also keg lines of more commercial beer that you find in most pubs. Nice section of snacks. The only thing i would say is that it looks like it needs a bit of TLC like the ladies bathroom the dryer didn't work and trying to close the door to the loo was difficult amd the TV showing the beer that previously worked isn't now and trying to see the lines of beer was difficult. However the staff were helpful in going through what they had on. But these things are minor the beer was great and the atmosphere was welcoming.

Popped in for our last meal whilst we holidayed in Matlock. The coffee and the CLUB sandwich were pretty good. Especially if you’re hungry. Would love to see what the bar is like in the evening as well. Service was great and we welcomed with smiles. If you’re staying in the area, I’d recommend eating here.

Very cosy place with great drinks and delicious food. Came here on Sunday morning for breakfast with some friends. We were seated pretty much immediately.Their hot chocolate is outstanding. First time I have tried their “Shakshuka” which is poached eggs in Mediterranean style sauce, topped with crumbled feta & side of a toast- was so tasty, well-prepared and full of flavour. The all day breakfast my husband ordered was also stunning, good value, he really enjoyed that. Friendly service, loved all the vintage decor too!!!

Great little independent bar, friendly welcome from staff and other customers. Nice selected of draft/keg/cask beers as well as bottled beers and ciders to drink in or takeaway. It's a hard slog up the hill from the main town, but worth the drink at the end.
Paul E — Google review
Cracking micro pub this, serving a wide range of ale from cask, keg, bottle and can. The landlord Mark is a friendly chap and up for a chat. He’s knowledgeable and passionate about the area too. Gave me some good tips for my travels. Nice little story how the place came to be. Nicely kitted out with a rustic cosy vibe. The ale is good and reasonably priced, I had a selection of 3. Very refreshing, it needed to be because it’s a bit of a walk up that hill from the town centre. Well worth it though. Will definitely pop in again when I’m in the area. Cheers! 🍻

Great micropub. It was a good size and well decorated. Mark was very knowledgeable about local beers and had a decent selection of bottles. I visited this place twice on my visit to Matlock and all the beers were well kept. There was suitable ales for both craft and real ale lovers on tap. I liked how the atmosphere in the pub enabled our party to strike up conversations with the locals. Will visit again.

Lovely micro pub ran by a friendly lady who served me. Good selection of ale. I had a couple of pale ales and a stout or ruby one. They brew their own too so fair play. Lovely vibe inside and I got chatting to some friendly locals. Worth the walk up the hill. Recommended 🍻

Great place this and well worth the walk up the hill, if you're coming from the centre of Matlock. It's been refurbished since the current photos were taken and much more contemporary in feel, with a Shaun Of The Dead vibe! Lovely selection of beers in casks and kegs, which are changed regularly. Friendly staff and a decent selection of board games if you need a child-friendly diversion. Highly recommended!

The food is always perfectly cooked and involves different flavours or presentations making it a special meal. The staff are friendly and the service is quick. The restaurant is always clean and tidy, and beautifully decorated. Stones offer vouchers for their three course meal offers which are a great gift for Christmas or birthdays.

This was a recommendation from a friend and it was worth the hour and a half drive! The story I was told was that the chef was a Michelin star chef working in London, who was sick of the rat race and relocated to Matlock in Derbyshire. My partner and I opted for the 7 course taster menu and what a sensation that was. EVERY dish was an explosion in the mouth of complimentary flavours and textures. With the appetisers, the sour dough bread and the mous bouches , it turned out to be almost 10 courses. Just look at the photos! Unbelievable! The location is beautiful too. The outside terrace overlooks the river and the sounds of the water creates at truly romantic setting. The staff were excellent too and I’m surprised that Stones doesn’t already have a Michelin star! Out of this world and I would recommend everyone that likes food to try it! @ £80 per person, it is an absolute bargain. For food like this you would pay double that in London!

Great restaurant, absolutely delicious food and very professional and friendly staff, could not fault it at all

If you're looking for somewhere to have a wonderful eating experience - you've found it! You'll struggle to beat the excellent food at Stones Restaurant anywhere near here. We had the remarkable 5 course tasting menu today which, we all agreed, was as good as it gets. In addition there were really tasty amuse-bouche before the meal and in between some courses, and the whole meal was finished off with homemade chocolates. The staff were really pleasant, the decor was really pleasant, and the seating was comfortable. Each course was a masterpiece of taste and texture. Each course wasn't huge, but the meal as a whole was perfectly balanced and left everyone completely satisfied. On top of that it was superb value for money. In addition, in the warmer months, there is attractive outside seating with lovely views. A little gem - just sorry it isn't nearer to where we live, as it would be on the calendar regularly if it was.

Lovely! Went for our annual Birthday taster menu and it was great as always. Got to try a few things we'd never had before. A few items were quite salty which was such a shame but the puddings as always were th best part!

"The Red Lion" is a charming inn with elegant rooms, a restaurant, bar, and its own brewery. The menu offers a variety of dishes at reasonable prices, different from typical pub fare. The warm and welcoming atmosphere is run by a friendly young family who also manages the microbrewery on-site. Holly Cottage, part of the property, combines period charm with contemporary design and sits in a picturesque location near Hagworthingham village.
The Red Lion, Matlock - A Roaring Success A Perfect Sunday Roast Getaway! Our recent stay at The Red Lion in Matlock exceeded our expectations in every way. From the moment we arrived, the staff was warm, welcoming, and incredibly helpful. We enjoyed co-owner Lee’s dry scene of humour. The atmosphere was relaxed and inviting, making it the perfect spot for a relaxing escape on our anniversary. Our room was clean and comfortable. The Sunday roast carvery, wow! The restaurant was fully booked so an advance booking is recommended. The selection of meats was cooked to perfection, tender and succulent, with a fantastic selection of roasted vegetables and light, fluffy Yorkshire puddings. It was, without a doubt, one of the best carvery lunches we’ve had for a long time. The location of The Red Lion is also a huge plus. Matlock itself is a beautiful town with plenty to explore, and the pub's central location makes it an ideal base for discovering the surrounding area. We had a day out at nearby Bakewell, and another day we enjoyed a walk to Lumsdale Falls. Overall, our stay at The Red Lion was exceptional. The combination of friendly staff, comfortable accommodation, and a truly outstanding Sunday roast carvery, the on-site micro brewery (my favourite was the Giddy Edge IPA), makes this a must-visit. I wholeheartedly recommend The Red Lion to anyone looking for a relaxing and enjoyable getaway in Matlock. We can't wait to return!

Brilliant short break at this brew pub in Matlock. Fantastic staff who actually communicate with you as a valued human being making you feel so welcome - a home from home experience. From the breakfasts cooked to order to the Sunday lunches and evening meals, would highly recommend!

Welcoming pub serving food as well as drinks. Staff were friendly and service was relatively quick. I didn’t fancy a big meal, so I ordered the patatas bravas and garlic bread - both were delicious and just what I needed. Plenty of seating both inside and outside. Highly recommended.

We were told today from a young lady they had no room inside but if we wanted to take a table outside we could have Sunday roast. So we brought a drink. Then to be told by other women they didn't have no dinners left. Left frustrated as we wouldn't of brought a drink if we knew this in the first place. The young lady apologised, the other women behind the bar looked stressed. We came a long way so it's not nice to be told by one person to take a seat for Sunday lunch then told up on hearing outside other locals received a Sunday roast. I guess being local give you special treatment. Sorry - just the impression we got. The communication could have been better! X

Nestled in the heart of Matlock, Thailand No.1 is a delightful casual eatery that celebrates the vibrant flavors of Thai cuisine. This charming spot has quickly become a favorite among both casual diners and food enthusiasts, showcasing an impressive array of classic dishes crafted from the freshest local and imported ingredients. Each week, exotic vegetables, herbs, and spices are sourced directly from Thailand to ensure authenticity in every bite.
We visited the restaurant for a Saturday evening meal. The atmosphere was beautiful, the staff was so attentive and polite. The meal was ample and so delicious. Would highly recommend we will definitely be returning and bringing family and friends along with us. The food was Very aromatic, so tasty and full of flavour. I had the Duck and it was cooked to perfection. My husband had the jungle curry beef and it was quite Spicy but that was perfect for his taste! The wine was lovely and my husband had a shandy as he was driving. Definitely worth a visit!

Had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. The food came out quickly and the customer service was great. They recommended dishes that were more appropriate for children, and their portion sizes were plentiful. The atmosphere wa peaceful and quiet, and it was very clean. We had the chicken satay as a starter, which was served with a delicious peanut sauce. For mains, we had the tom yam soup, Pad Thai, and a sweet fried fish dish, all of which were delicious! The food tasted cosy and warming. Finished with the fried banana desert which was crispy and really good. Definitely a place I would come back to!

Stopped by Thailand No.1 Matlock craving Thai food en route back to London after a day out in the Peak District. Food was absolutely amazing with authentic fresh flavours. Recommend the Tom Yum and Pad Thai's as well as the fried fish. The staff were really friendly and very welcoming. Super helpful on menu recommendations. The summer cocktail that is currently on offer is highly recommended. The pink gin with raspberry was super refreshing. Would definitely come back if passing thru.

Beautiful restaurant serving authentic Thai cuisine. Everything about this restaurant is excellent: the decor is elegant but inviting, the food is superb, and the staff are fantastic. There’s plenty of options for vegetarians and diners with dietary restrictions. Dishes can also be adjusted according to your personal preference. Special mention and thank you to the lady (sorry I didn’t get your name) who was so lovely and made my day extra special when I told her it was my birthday. Your kindness was very much appreciated. I highly recommend visiting Thailand No.1 Matlock, but I would probably reserve a table if visiting at the weekend as I have a feeling it gets incredibly busy!

Food is really really good here. We ordered beef pad kra paw, seafood vermicelli salad, and duck charcoal hotpot. I forgot to take all food photos because we were all hungry. A must order is beef pad kra paw, it is smoky and tastes really good.

My partner and I had dinner here for my 25th birthday. The food was delicious and they were very accommodating of my partner's coeliac disease (loads of amazing and well labeled gluten free options). We will definitely come again next time we're in Matlock 😊

It's fine. Thai green Curry was nice with beef and steamed rice. Started it a dried prawn cake was nice and interesting but could have been spiced a bit I think. Slightly distracting lounge music and a lightning that is both dark and too bright at the same time (I was dining alone and tried to play a card game and couldn't due to darkness and reflection of spot lights off the cards). Overall I would come again or get take away of I was near but wouldn't come here as a destination.
Iain W — Google review
Wow - absolutely delicious Thai cuisine. We came on a bank holiday Monday for dinner without a booking and luckily only had to wait twenty minutes (even though they initially thought it’d be an hour). We ordered a lot of dishes, from a Thai salad to soup to fish to pad Thai, literally everything we ordered came in generous portions and was extremely delicious and fresh. If I am in the area again I will definitely be back and will recommend this restaurant to my friends :)

It is a lovely park for kids and adult mental health and well-being. Especially the blue skies and green grass in the springtime. I would love to give it a higher rate, but I found dog poos everywhere, broken glasses everywhere, which is not very impressed with the people involved.

A Hidden Gem in Matlock – A Must-Visit Bar! If you find yourself in Matlock and you're looking for a fab place to unwind, look no further. This bar is an absolute gem – the atmosphere is buzzing, the drinks are spot-on, and the service is second to none. What really sets this place apart, though, is the bar manager, Gary. From the moment you walk in, he makes you feel like a regular – warm, welcoming, and genuinely passionate about what he does. Whether you’re after a perfectly mixed cocktail, a local craft beer, or just a good chat at the bar, Gary’s your guy. You can tell he puts his heart into the place, and it shows in every detail. The vibe is relaxed but lively, the music’s always on point, and there’s a great mix of locals and visitors. It’s the kind of place where one drink turns into three, and you leave already planning your next visit. Highly recommend – 5 stars all the way. Cheers to Gary for making it such a special spot!

Imagine the scene, you walk in there, it’s a sunny Saturday afternoon; you’ve had a few drinks and you fancy sharing a charcuterie bored. There’s 5 of you. You look at the menu, charcuterie £18.99 to share. You sit outside “by the river” (a bed of weeds and neighbouring gravelled gardens) and you eagerly await said charcuterie. Here it comes: 10 grapes, two pieces of brie, 2 tonnes of blue cheese and 3 (THREE) pieces of bread. I personally wasn’t satiated by 0.6 pieces of stale baguette but I did enjoy my jubel. Worst case scenario you can cross the road and get cheesy chips.

Buddys in Matlock is a highly recommended spot for burger lovers. The inviting atmosphere and swift service make it a great choice for groups. From the moment we walked in, Louis and the team made us feel incredibly welcome. Louis was not only warm and friendly, but he also went out of his way to engage with our son, which made the whole experience even more special for our family. Nothing was ever too much trouble — the service was genuinely top-tier. Even the chef took time out to come over and walk us through the menu, which was a lovely personal touch. He explained how generous the portions are (and he wasn’t kidding!) — the food was absolutely delicious and excellent value for money. What would I change about the experience? Honestly, nothing at all. Everything was spot on from start to finish. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in the area. Highly recommended

My friends and I stumbled across Buddy’s on a Sunday where is was naturally quiet. I’m sure on its busiest nights it’s really full. We were quite hungry so ordered the beef and pork pit trays. I cannot fault the beef burnt ends. Delicious! Unfortunately I found the pulled beef tasteless and dry and the cornbread warm at the top and cold at the bottom (your mileage may vary) my friends really enjoyed the pulled pork, ribs and sausage. Service was good and very prompt with drinks. They had unfortunately run out of coleslaw and when I asked if this would be reflected on the bill I was told we could have more corn bread if we wished. We declined and no more was said sadly.

We stumbled across this place when looking for the pub nextdoor and decided to give it a try, we're so glad we did! The food was really, really nice, and after being told it's a new menu, the food lived up to the expectations We shared a beef plate, with ranging cuts of the meat alongside tatertots and chicken tenders with hot honey. Those chicken tenders deserve to be a main on their own, as they were the best thing we ate! Would definitely recommend anyone looking for a great place to grab a meal at a reasonable price

Lovely visit to Buddy’s this afternoon. Dropped in without a reservation about 6pm and the guy that met us that door was very accommodating, made room for us on the big table partially situated outside. We had 2 x raspberry lemonade and then a disorderly and a hungover buddy burger which was delicious! Meat was very tasty as were the fries, all came out in good time and was hot on arrival. All the staff were super friendly and even when one member hadn’t shown up for their shift, still had the time for a quick chat about the food and just general good banter. Overall a really nice experience that was of a acceptable price for the quality and would certainly come again!
Ad182uk A — Google review
Buddy’s Smokehouse didn’t just feed me—it hugged my taste buds. The pit pork tray was so tender I’m pretty sure it was slow-danced into perfection. Smoky, juicy, and the kind of portion size that makes you feel like a champion (and still good enough to share with my beautiful girlfriend without feeling resentful). I paired it with a pint of Neck Oil, which went down smoother than a cheesy pickup line. It cut through the rich pork perfectly and left me nodding like, yep, this is living. The place itself? Cozy, lively, and staffed by folks who look like they actually enjoy feeding you. We left smiling, full, and already plotting our return—because once you’ve had pork this good, regular food just feels like a bad rebound.

The staff were friendly, approachable, and helpful, providing useful local tips and ensuring a smooth check-in process. The location is excellent, close to local attractions like Matlock Bath, Chatsworth House, and the Peak District National Park. The facilities were clean and tidy, with good Wi-Fi access, which is a must for travelers. One of the highlights was the communal vibe — it’s a perfect spot for meeting fellow travelers and sharing stories. Prices were reasonable, and I appreciated the relaxed, laid-back environment. Me and my boyfriend have visited The lounge twice now and it’s been a lovely experience. They have a fantastic drink selection, ranging from fun milkshakes and bubble tea, to classic coca-cola and traditional tea and coffees. As for the food, My boyfriend had the bacon and cheese smash burger, the presentation was fantastic and it was delicious. I ordered the mac and cheese, this was also delicious however wished the mac and cheese came with some garlic bread or some type of garnish, however I really enjoyed this dish! The staff were quick and efficient, they made us feel looked after. The atmosphere is great, good lighting and music! If your in matlock and looking for a nice place to eat and get out the rain, you should really give The lounge a go! Very decently priced, they have board games and books for entertainment! As well as a little corner for children and family. Overall, great food and menu!

Tried phoning to book and was told to just turn up. Luckily there are plenty of tables and on a late August Thursday space available. Quite a good range of choice on the menu with some Gluten Free options and care taken by the staff over these.. even placement of wee flags on the dish. OK, it highlights something that shouldn't need it, but very reassuring nonetheless. Food was reasonably quickly prepared and was delightful. Nothing too much bother, including expediting a side order I'd forgotten to mention when ordering the main order. This is a dog friendly place too. I rarely mention toilets in restraunt reviews- its not why we want to visit, but plus points here for clean loos too. An overall great dining experience... happily eat here again (soon).
David R — Google review
The place had a great vibe and the menu looked promising, but the experience didn’t match. The order-from-table app crashed twice, and since there’s no table service, we had to go to the counter. If that’s the system, it really needs to work properly. At the counter, staff didn’t make eye contact or acknowledge anyone waiting. When I asked for water (after ordering Nasi Goreng, which is quite hot), I was told, “There’s a jug somewhere — you can get it yourself.” Not exactly what you expect after spending nearly £100 for four people. The food was fine, but service felt careless — food dropped off without follow-up, sauces asked about afterward, and we had to fetch things ourselves. I’ve run a few establishments myself and understand how tough hospitality is, but basic politeness and attentiveness make all the difference. And just to finish on a funny note — I left without ever getting that water and ended up buying a bottle from the shop next door. Probably not the takeaway experience you want your guests remembering! Great vibe and good food, but the service really needs to catch up
Hemanth — Google review
Food was good apart from the black pudding on the cooked breafast. Was like a burnt wafer and when asked for a replacement the same thing came out again! Cost nearly £2 for this as an extra and response from first waitress was that's how it is. A second waitress possibly the manager was more apologetic and offered a drink but we were about to leave so declined, maybe offering to take it off the bill would have been better? Others in the group had a range of food and were happy with what they got although we did wait ages and some of the food wasn't piping hot. Extensive gluten free and vegan menus and generally range of food was good.

The zinc café/gift emporium is set in an old re purposed stationery shop and very reminiscent of days gone by , the zinc's atmosphere is tranquil and relaxed with a boutique style approach to your shopping experience and also has a very good selection of cards and souvenirs that are very unique and of a very high quality and are at reasonable cost for a tourist area . The zinc dinning experience is truly a pleasure and portion sizes are generous and presentation of meals is of a very good standard . The zinc is a great place for a good cup of coffee !! which is a high quality blend and medium bodied with a good depth of flavour , that compliments the food here on offer , and is the ideal after dinner drink with a slice of one of the very special fresh baked specialty cakes they have here in abundance ! . I myself have tried most and prefer the cherry Bakewell which seems to have a great following with the locals and visitors alike . The zinc's tea is also very good and is served in your own tea pot and is the more traditional leaf tea and should please the more serious tea lover . The zinc's savory selection and baguettes are very good value and my RECOMMENDATION is the bacon brie and cranberry served with a light salad and a side of crisps , and is an ideal warm up snack when it's a cold day . The zinc's staff are friendly and welcoming and always make the zinc dinning experience a special treat . So if you like a good cup of tea or a good quality coffee with tasty snacks and freshly baked cakes and good levels of service the zinc could be the place for you ! .

Located on Bakewell Road, The Tipsy Toad is a unique and eclectic bar with a cool interior featuring neon lights, making it a great spot for watching sports. The bar offers an incredible cocktail menu that is expertly crafted and reasonably priced. Visitors highly recommend trying the Gentleman cocktail. Additionally, the place is known for its varied and interesting food offerings with a continental twist, resembling tapas-style dishes.
What a lovely quirky bar. Dropped in for a quick drink on the way to our hotel. Can't wait to come back this evening.

Fun little bar this one on the high street. It’s very different from night to day (I experienced both) popped in during the day one sunny afternoon and sat out front watching people come and go was most pleasant. At night it’s a bit wilder as it’s one of the later opening bars. Rammed in there with tunes pumping. Bit of a younger crowd but some 30s+ too. Dart Board on go with darts flying passed your head. Probably a tapping pub. Taxi rank opposite so good to get out of dodge when needed! 🍻 🎯 🚕

Great cocktail bar in Matlock. We didn't have much time to stay but we certainly enjoyed our cocktails (2 for £12) We enjoyed sitting outside watching the world go by on a Saturday afternoon. Would recommend. Cool place!

Very nice find after a long days walk in the peaks. Dog friendly too, which was great! Friendly owner and purveyor of delicious food. The 'feast' platters are generous and tasty, milkshakes freshly made too. Definitely worth a revisit

Me and 7 friends were visiting Matlock for the weekend and visited here after reading great reviews. The vibes were great but the bar staff not so much. My friend went to the bar and ordered two strawberry daiquiris and I then joined her at the bar and said I was going to get the same. She saw the lady taking the blender to the back and said “if it makes it any easier my friend wants two strawberry daiquiris too” in which the lady then proceeded to roll her eyes. She made some more but only bought over 1 drink and I said “oh sorry we ordered two more”. Her response was to walk over to another member of staff and say “they are pissing me off”. She proceeded to throw full strawberries into the drink which resulted in the leaves just floating to the top. Made me and my friends felt very unwelcome and awkward. We planned on spending all evening in there but left after our first round of drinks because we was made to feel so unwelcome.

Myself and a couple of friends from uni came for a drink due to a birthday do , it wasn’t the best experience upon arrival NOT ONCE did the security guard ask myself and my friends for ID you would have thought the security guard would ask for ID with it being a busy bar on a Saturday night and serving alcohol until late the bar staff were extremely rude , we felt very uncomfortable knowing the fact we was a whiteness to some sort of incident taking place regarding the female toilets , from what we notice it’s not very LGBTQ friendly myself and my friends left we felt it wasn’t a happy , safe environment to be around If your local then I suppose it’s okay but if your just a visitor to Matlock I wouldn’t waste your time going to such a horrible place with rude , inconsiderate staff Will definitely not be going here again.

A beautiful little property to stay at with parking and plenty of space. Everything had been thought of and contained in a small space. The kids said it was, "the best Air B and B ever!".

We spent a whole week running events at Designate@TheGate and honestly didn’t want to leave! The space is absolutely gorgeous, beautifully designed, full of charm, and with such a calm, welcoming vibe that really set the tone for each day. Kirsty and Andy were incredible hosts from start to finish. So warm, helpful, and genuinely supportive of what we were doing. They went above and beyond to make sure everything ran smoothly and that we felt completely at home. It’s a rare gem of a venue, creative, stylish, and full of soul. Perfect for workshops, talks, or anything that needs a thoughtful and inspiring setting. We’ll definitely be back and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.

We had an amazing party here, the venue is amazing and has such a wonderful outside area as well. It was perfect for a family party, kids were entertained with the sand pit. Food was delicious, really good quality and really tasty. If your looks for a stress free venue to host an event, I couldn’t recommend more. Thank you so much for making our party so enjoyable and organisation stress free.

Had a great party hosted by Andy and Kirsty for my son's 8th birthday, minecraft theme. A range of activities kept the kids entertained just long enough not to get bored, along with nice food and party bags. And bar open for the grown ups!

We held our wedding vow renewal at Designate@thegate and it was truly magical. Kirsty & Andy were wonderful. The food was excellent. The venue is already beautiful but they went the extra mile for us making it look even better using their own decorations inside and outside. After lots of fun & dancing the comfy beds in the onsite accommodation ensured we had a great night's sleep too. If you're looking for a wonderfully unique party venue with excellent hosts, we would 100% recommend. Thank you Kirsty & Andy for making sure our day was perfect.

We recently hosted a 70th birthday party at Designate in Matlock, and it couldn’t have been more perfect! From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by Andy and Kirsty, who went above and beyond to make the celebration truly special. Their passion for the venue and genuine care for their guests really shone through. The venue itself is full of charm and character — cosy, stylish, and incredibly inviting. The outdoor space was absolutely perfect, especially on a sunny afternoon. The children were busy in the sandpit and playing in the vintage caravan and there is plenty of seating for everyone to relax. It added so much to the atmosphere of the party. Inside, everything was beautifully and uniquely decorated. The food and drinks were spot-on, catering to a wide range of tastes, and the flow of the event was seamless thanks to Andy and Kirsty’s expert hosting. We also had family who stayed overnight, and the accommodation was just as impressive — clean, comfortable, and full of character. It made the whole experience feel like a proper getaway and allowed us all to relax and really enjoy the celebration without anyone having to worry about travelling home. Most importantly, the birthday guest of honour had an amazing time, surrounded by family and friends in such a warm and welcoming setting. We couldn’t have asked for a better venue or more dedicated hosts. If you’re looking for a unique, friendly, and beautifully run venue in Matlock, we wholeheartedly recommend Designate. Huge thanks to Andy and Kirsty for helping us create such a joyful and memorable occasion!

Yes! YES! yeeeees! I love this place. It's from collecables till nick nacks. Vintage - antiques. You can be in this place for hours and still didn't see all. Its absolute one of the best antique shops in the area. Good prices for value. I saw too much i would like to take home with me. (Got me two paintings this time). I try to come here when i am in the UK (twice a year). This shop is one you have to visite and take your time. Look at my photo's and judge for yourself. I will be back at some point this year (2025).

Asmaa T — Google review
Went in today as my wife wanted me to go and buy a storage bench they had for sale there. Whilst having a look around, I saw a couple with their teenage son (who was disabled). Their son picked up a top hat and put it on his head, quite proudly and seemed to enjoy it. All of a sudden, an old lady who worked at the store loudly asked the son to take it off because of the "grease" on his hair. This was your normal, run of the mill, family that was clean and kempt. They explained to the woman that their son was disabled and would not have meant to have done anything wrong to which the staff member just said "I know but its £50". How rude. I was disgusted by that woman. She needs sacking. There was no need to embarrass the couple like that. I am ashamed I never said anything to her but I was so angry. Imagine calling someones disabled son "greasy"? He wasnt. He was a clean teenager. He seemed so overjoyed when he put this top hat on, and he had the biggest smile ever. Please avoid this place if that is how they treat people. She should be ashamed of herself. How the parents remained calm is a mystery to me. They did soon left. As did I . Minus the £100 storage bench I was going to buy. I told my wife the reason why I didnt buy it and she fully supported me. They lost a couple of customers that day.

Customers praise the generous portions and reasonable prices, with some mentioning that even the small sandwiches are quite large. Second attempt as it appears the first review didn't save... All it said was this is THE best sandwich and bakes place in Matlock. The food has soul, the staff are deliciously friendly and helpful and the options are plentiful!!! As I live in Matlock I am also fortunate to have to jog past when they are open or I would be the size of a whale due to their raspberry and white chocolate muffins, which are enormous. Great value for money and such fabulous quality you can be assured of a great bite to eat.

Over the years , we’ve bought sandwiches for walking lunches at various places in Matlock. Mrs Tiggy Winkles has recently become our go-to place. Reasonably priced and plenty of choice. Takeaway salad bowls are enormous and excellent. (No idea what the previous review about fish and chips is about. I think the reviewer must mean somewhere else. It’s a takeaway sandwich shop!)

Hands down the BEST cob I've had in my life. Delicious. Great service, lots of choice, reasonable prices. Mrs Tiggy Winkles is a gem!

Smallest portions of fish & chips we've ever had (asked for normal), and chips were terrible, soggy but hard, nasty flavour. Most of mine had black bits so I couldn't even eat them, I was still hungry afterwards, unheard of. Very disappointing. We got there 20 mins before closing, but staff were already washing floors, keen to go, and unwilling to do anything fresh. Guess we got the scrag ends of the day.

Bar staff are amazing and they made my favourite Bloody Mary and it’s amazing thank you so much and the porn star martini are the best

Visited today, nice cocktails would recommend the tropic like it's hot and the pear drop. The only issue we had was the service itself. I ordered at the bar and went back to my seat thinking they would have brought it to the table as the bar was quiet and no where on the menu did it advise it was only bar service. They placed our drinks on the bar and did not shout over saying your drinks are ready until 10 minutes and we wondered where the drinks were until we saw them and asked if the drinks were ours. Would not recommend the service.

Lovely place but not as good as Belber. Unfortunately all their outdoor beer garden tables were left uncleared by the staff and the area was full of wasp's which made sitting outside unpleasant. Only stayed for a one drink due to wasp’s and untidiness.

One of the only Google reviews I've left, and for good reason. Truly amazing location, service and beer. Shep (the owner) couldn't do enough for us. We arrived in our usual post-walk fashion, with dogs and babies to boot, and Shep was super attentive and helpful. Kept the sun of those that needed shade, and was on hand with more umbrellas when the rain arrived. Legendary. Definitely a must visit for anyone in the area who enjoys a decent pint of craft.

The only nice thing about this pub is the view from it's garden. Terribly run down, dated and totally unlocked after. Such a shame for the perfect location.

Fairly big pub known for its food although i only popped in for a beer. Serves ale but I was on the lager as it was a sunny day. It’s pleasant sat out front ( people watching and vibe) and the back (has an actual fishpond). Has.occasional live music. recommended! 🍻 🐠

Nice pub with a cosy atmosphere. Staff were friendly and helpful on allergies. I got the marinara pizza, which is technically incorrectly named because marinara doesn't have cheese on, but honestly that doesn't matter because it was fantastic. Perfectly cooked, I took a picture underneath a slice just to show it off. It had so much flavour: the parmesan, the tomato, and oregano and garlic. I couldn't stop eating it. I had a side salad with it too which worked well with it. I also had a rum and coke which was a really good price. I'd like more rum options; that's the only negative I have. If I'm in Matlock Bath again I'll definitely come back

I went on the recommendation of my son who said he had the best loaded fries here. It was a sunny Sunday so I knew it would be busy, so we booked a table online. Despite the place being absolutely rammed, we were served quickly and the staff were all friendly. The food was really good. Actually better than I was expecting. The loaded fries were indeed great and I had the chilli beef which was lovely. We ended up asking for takeaway boxes because we had a lot left. Prices were reasonable for where we were and what we got.

Great food at this pub and relaxed service just sit down like a normal pub and go order at bar. Monday to wednesday they have two pizzas for £20 in the evening and they are really fantastic pizzas good crisp base very good sauce also very good pepperoni. Crispy chilli beef was great with huge helping of beef and the satay curry was super! With lots of fresh veg and even had bonito flakes on the rice. Also, puddings were generous portions, really nice but we could have shared one. Could have come here for the whole holiday with how much variety they have on the menu.

Unfortunately the food wasn't edible at all I ordered the 10oz steak I asked for it well done but it was burnt and I couldn't get my steak knife through it. My wife ordered fish and chips when I went to the bar to complain about the steak the very pleasant member of staff asked what she could do ie a refund I was hungry and was told it would take a while for another steak. In the end I ordered fish and chips which was vile hardly any fish and all batter,my wife didn't eat all her fish as she said it wasn't nice. Then when I had to ask for the difference in price for the fish and chips and the steak which I feel should have been handled by a member of staff not myself. The staff were young and doing a great job under a very busy pub however I feel as though the place was very understaffed which may have been the reason for this poor visit. As a first time visitor i feel that you must improve your food and get more staff to cope.

Nipped in on a Sunday lunchtime. We sat outside in the courtyard with the fish pond which was really nice. Food was great, we had a big table and people ordered everything from burgers to Sunday roasts and everyone really enjoyed their food. Three of us had pizza and all of us were really impressed with them. Proper freshly made pizza and a step above what I was expecting from a lunch at a pub and all at really reasonable prices Would definitely return

Popped in here on a Friday afternoon. Pub was nice, sat in the back garden by the little waterfall and had fish and chips!, which were very nice. Quick service and friendly staff. Good stuff all round.

Nestled in the charming town of Wirksworth, The Quarryman is a delightful pub that has garnered a reputation as one of the best spots in the Peak District. This quaint establishment, run by a veteran, exudes warmth and friendliness, making every visitor feel like part of the family. With its inviting atmosphere and attentive staff, it’s no wonder patrons often linger longer than planned.
Fantastic little pub. Great sun trap beer garden and dog friendly too!! Surrounded by lovely walks and a very interesting town of Wirksworth. Land Lord and Lady are very friendly and the sausage rolls are amazing. Highly recommended.

Nice pub, friendly landlord and lady, good beer.
Philip W — Google review
The pub is clean, warm and friendly. It is also dog friendly. There are normally four pumps on that has a range of decent bitters. Out the back you can go up some steep steps to a roof top beer garden and see historic Wirksworth. This is a great place in the summer. In winter there is normally a stove on so the pub is warm and cosy
Ric D — Google review
Strongly promotes the fact that you can watch the 6 nations rugby there, but when we went to watch the Wales v England match, the barman refused to turn down the 80s music blaring out of the speakers so we couldn't hear the rugby commentary. Only gets a second star because it served a decent pint of Timothy Taylor's Landlord.
Kevin P — Google review
This pub is in England, we were visiting a Veteran friend of my boyfriends, they had not seen each other for 39 years. Any way the Quarry man pub is a quaint pub run by a Veteran, it is warm welcoming so are the people and the staff, they make you feel like you don't want to leave, also your one of the family. This place sells real ale also. We are certainly going back next year.
Joselyn J — Google review
Excellent choice of well kept ales. Large wine and spirit menu, nicely decorated. Wood burners in the winter, lovely terrace in the summer. Landlord's not a bad bloke his missus is great lol

A very small local pub with outdoor seating that stretches up the hillside. Great local ales and have a fantastic band on in the Sunday we arrived, I think this is a usual event. Omg amazing soft and fluffy roast potatoes and onion gravy given out as bar food by the owner. Worth a visit.

Deception Escape Rooms in Matlock offers an exciting and affordable rainy day activity for the whole family. With options like Trapped, Scarytale, and Jilted, there's a mystery to solve for everyone. The challenges are well-designed with intricate puzzles that are cleverly connected to the room's theme. It's recommended to book in advance due to its popularity. This attraction is suitable for children aged eight and above, making it a great way to spend time on a rainy day.
The staff made sure this was great fun fire us. Our group of six was myself as the only adult with my children and a few of their friends. We chose not to have the additional scares but did get a few clues along the way and escaped with a bit of extra time too! Highly recommended !
Gareth S — Google review
Visited as a family treat, for a birthday. The staff are absolutely lovely, very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, the escape rooms are the most boring I've ever done. Absolutely nothing happens, no in-between fun bits. We did two, just to check it wasn't us! Sadly, we were all so bored in the end, we didn't even try to escape, we just stood talking until we were let out. Update, we did Olivia, with the scratching imp in the wardrobe and the "Narnia" bit and the Rumpelstiltskin one, I found the book, which contained an important clue, but I put it back and didn't use it! Sorry, but I was bored. Take care, all the best.
Mandy H — Google review
Honestly the best (and probably scariest) escape rooms I’ve done! You can ask for the room without the scare, but it really did add such a fun twist. The staff that helped us was absolutely amazing, I already can’t wait to go back!
Isha — Google review
Came today with my partner and our 2 daughters (8+10) we did the scary fairy tale and omg! It was amazing! The staff are next level, the puzzles are awesome, the waiting room is full of incredible games and puzzles to get you in the mood! They also offer a locker for any bags for your phones/bags etc! Amazing place and we'll definitely be back! Can't wait!
Chloe P — Google review
Fantastic escape room, great puzzle and the host was amazing. We did it as a family with a 6 year old and it was really great fun, he had several things to do and help. I would recommend following the host advice on choosing the jump scares or not.
Carol B — Google review
Amazing place! Whole experience was amazing. The lady who welcomed us and explained it all was such good fun throughout, made the experience even better! Well worth the money. We’ve done a couple of escape rooms and this one was the best yet and the only one we’ve escaped lol. Highly recommend and we will be back again! Thanks so much.
Chloe C — Google review
One of the best escape rooms we’ve done. The puzzles are tricky but really cleverly set up. We did Jilted, and we just made it out (with a few hints). The host monitors the room well and gives you hints when needed. The theming is very good too - every puzzle is connected to the room’s theme, which doesn’t happen in every escape room. You really have to be careful to look at everything or you will miss a key piece of the puzzle! We will be back to try the other rooms.
Claire T — Google review
Came here with friends to do my first escape room experience this week and it was great! We didn’t escape in the end as it was quite tricky but had a good time and a good scare. The staff member we spoke to was funny and was very helpful with our clues!

A very beautiful house in a lovely location. Possibly our 4th or 5th visit as a group of friends. Damien is always welcoming and friendly. Fabulous eateries close to hand - Maazi for spice, The Sycamore Inn if you prefer good ales and home cooked food, or Le Mistral in Wirksworth (15 minutes in the car) if your taste is more continental. Loads of things to do nearby - Carsington and the Trails for outdoors activities - or for lots of fun and nostalgia, check out Drive Your Dad's Car in Ambergate.

A short week at this house. Delightful. Lovely position opposite the park and river. Parking opposite the house. Really well finished decoratively. Nice fixtures and fittings. Small courtyard garden that catches the sun (on that 1 day a year in Derbyshire!). Video is of bridge immediately opposite the house. Soaked with rain, steaming in the sun. The river in the photo runs through the park opposite the house.

Derwent House is amazing and in a beautiful setting. It was the perfect place for me to meet up with my three children and their families which included 7 grandchildren aged between 1 and 6. I have never stayed in a place that is so incredibly well stocked with equipment and the fresh flowers around the house were beautiful. I am hoping to stay for another reunion in the not too distant future.

Rubigo - Tapas & Bar is a charming spot located in Matlock, offering a friendly and helpful atmosphere. The bar provides reasonably priced drinks and a great vibe, making it an ideal place to unwind. The food is impressive, bursting with flavor and presented beautifully. The urban decor gives off city vibes, adding to the unique experience. While the venue is small, it doesn't feel cramped despite getting noisy at times.
Here in Matlock for the weekend. All the pubs n bars busy and couldn’t get served so called here. Even though it was packed we got served and a seat. Karaoke 🎤 on with everyone in high spirits and singing along. Great atmosphere in a world 🌍 with so much bad going on. Good for the owner for bringing good fun and happiness. Your mum is supportive & cool too !!

Nice little cocktail bar. No food, just beers and cocktails. A bit rough and ready. Cocktails are 2 for £9 before 6 pm or 2 for £12 after.

Had a lunchtime meal and a drink here, the food was amazing, we had paella and squid and it was really affordable, the atmosphere was perfect and the staff were friendly.
Daisy B — Google review
Went again to eat and the food was incredible. It’s hands down the best I’ve eaten in Matlock. Pork belly skewers were fantastic, and the salt and pepper squid incredible, honestly. Went as a party of 12, and every single one of us was impressed with the food. Staff were are excellent, really friendly and chatty, and they did a great job of looking after us. Updated June 2021 Menu has reasonably changed, and I personally find the new menu limited and disappointing (I was really looking forward to belly pork and cheese lollipops again, both now gone). Decors also changed a bit. It still looks cool, very punk / tattoo, but I did prefer the decor before.

Can’t speak for midweek but late on a Friday this was a bit Wild West. Also plenty of characters up for a laugh in here. You can be your own DJ too. Very eclectic set up shall we say and probably a bit of a tapping off place. Funny!

Absolutely fantastic. Nicky the Manager is new to the bar and doing an amazing job! Very friendly, listens to the customers. The service is excellent and Jake works very well with her too! Both looked after us and made us feel very welcome. Food and cocktails are gorgeous. Thoroughly recommend and will definitely visit again. Thank you 🥰
Diane H — Google review
Still reasonably new and easily the best bar in town. They do great food and cocktails and have an interesting line up of beers to try. Their food is very popular so if you are visiting at the weekend it is definitely a good idea to book. It is quite a small venue so finding a seat is often a problem at busy times. If that’s the only complaint you can find with a place though you’re on to a winner. They do breakfast as well which I haven’t done yet but it is on my to do list. It is the only place in town where you can sit at a table get your drinks bought over and more often than not get some complimentary bar snacks such as olives too thrown into the bargain. They have also recently started putting live entertainment on st the weekend which I worried could be over powering loud as in some of the other bars in town. I was pleasantly surprised that I could still hear others at the table though which made it rather splendid. Definitely worth a visit if you’re out shopping for antiques or on a big night out.

Nestled in the picturesque Wardlow Mires, the Three Stags Head Inn is a charming 17th-century roadside pub that embodies the essence of English hospitality. Run by Geoff Fuller and his wife Pat, this delightful establishment features inviting open fires, flagstone floors, and whitewashed walls that create a cozy atmosphere perfect for unwinding after a day of hiking. The inn serves up classic pub fare with an emphasis on freshly made dishes using local game, complemented by excellent ales from Abbeydale Brewery.
I've walked past this gem of a pub numerous times with the wife on hikes. Not quite sure how I've missed it for so long. Visited on Saturday night with a pal, what an absolute gem of a pub. A slice of English pub heritage preserved. The ale kept immaculately, the locals friendly and a very warm welcome from Andy & Cathy who are rightly proud of a terrific pub.

I spent a lovely afternoon there with my brother David on my 40th birthday and I enjoyed some black lurcher and even smoked a Cuban cigar outside. All the people inside ordered food from a local establishment and people even brought in their whippet dogs which were very cool, and the whole experience was beautiful. I highly recommend this place ✌️☮️🌞

A large group of us camping nearby popped into this place and were received warmly (literally in this case as a fire was lit for us in the second room). Lovely old world pub experience. No frills or pretension. Warning: the Black Death ale is well-named.

One of the best little pubs I've ever visited. Good selection of local ales + the usual spirits and ciders, exceptionally friendly barman and locals. We were camping nearby and invited over for birthday cake. 10/10 pub will ensure that I return. Didn't see any food on offer apart from bar snacks, card reception is dodgy bring cash if you have it

A truly exceptional pub of great historical significance, being a great example of what a public house should be. It is like no other, a refreshing step back in time where conversation is key. Flagged floors throughout and a real fire in both of its two rooms. Expect dogs, handmade tables and chairs, and great real ales. Food limited to bar snacks, (pork pie etc). Open Thu to Fri from 5pm, and from 12pm on weekends. If you've not been before, try it, a very warm welcome awaits. This is my favourite pub of all time.
