1Hotel Maria Cristina, a Luxury Collection Hotel, San Sebastian

Hotel Maria Cristina, a Luxury Collection Hotel in San Sebastian, is a five-star belle epoque hotel that offers refined accommodations and stunning river views. The hotel underwent a refurbishment in 2012 to celebrate its centenary, maintaining its luxurious and peaceful ambiance. Known for hosting the city's famous Film Festival since 1953, it has welcomed numerous A-list celebrities over the years.
This is 5 minutes from everything, including the beach. It's expensive, but it's the best hotel in town. The attention to detail is fabulous, right when you arrive. Valet to make it smooth. Umbrellas on hand if it's raining. Fresh, gorgeous orchid arrangements all over the hotel. Being an elite member, we got a lovely suite upgrade with flowers in the bathroom and lots of extra space. We checked in before the allotted time and were shown key spots to see on a tourist map that was so helpful. Lucas was our waiter in the salon. Julia and Jamie were awesome. The cleaning team was great, from keeping the floors dry when it rained, to turn down nightly service. The bartender was top notch. Alain. I wanted a 'raspberry' lemon drop martini and he did the trip without raspberry vodka. Just a great relaxing time during a work trip. Thanks.

This is a first-rate, 5-star hotel and possibly the best Marriott Luxury hotel I have ever stayed at. The hotel is in a beautiful classic building opened in 1912 and it has been perfectly updated and is meticulously maintained. Our room was large and beautiful, with lots of character but with all modern amenities. It is in a great location -- we were able to walk to everything we wanted to get to in San Sebastian, including restaurants in multiple neighborhoods. The location on the river but near the beach is perfect. The bar and all other public areas of the hotel are beautiful and spacious. With all that, the best thing about this hotel is the wonderful management and staff, who are friendly but extremely professional and helpful in every way. We hope to return to this beautiful city and when we do, we will return to the Maria Cristina.

We stayed at Hotel Maria Cristina (San Sebastián) in August 2025. As an Ambassador Elite, I was told upgrades didn’t apply and agreed to pay ~$4,100 USD — but before a room was assigned, Marriott confirmed in writing that all upgrade fees would be waived. Despite this, I was billed in full, offered only points as compensation, and received no response from Marriott executives when I escalated. Beautiful hotel and staff, but Marriott failed to honor its own written commitment, which has damaged my trust in the brand

Fantastic luxury hotel and super comfy bed. Chambermaid service slightly erratic as sometimes would return to find no cups in our room or a hotel dressing gown had disappeared but all rapidly resolved with a quick phone call! Fantastic central location and super friendly and helpful staff.

In a word - Magnificent. San Sebastien was the last stop on our 5 week tour of Europe. We stayed in the Maria Cristina hotel for 5 nights and could not have been more pleased with our choice. The locaton - right on the river, in the heart of downtown and incredibly close to Old Town, La Concha Beach and the surfers beach (not sure of the name). Could not have been better situated for our stay. The hotel building was beautiful on the outside (consistent with the traditional architecture of the area). I am not sure if it is on the historic register, but t should be. The lobby and common areas were impeccable with amazing detail and even perfect paint colors for my taste (tan, beige) - subdued and elegant. Our room - Rooms at the MC are larger vs. the average European room and we welcomed the extra space. We had a "standard" room, not a suite, and were very happy with it, although I was a bit grumpy at check in (more on that in a bit). The bar - Dry Martini - is a small, intimate and quiet location to get a mixed drink, glass of wine and some small bites. Great selection with a great group of people serving. Everyone was as pleasant as could be - engaging at the right moment and knowing when to let us have our alone time. The coworkers - In almost every setting that last 5 days, there will be at least one experience with a hotel coworker that leaves a less than stellar impression. NOT here. Every employee of the hotel made my wife and I feel like we were invited guests in their home. One standout was the young gentleman at the front desk. I am a Titanium member of Mariott Bonvoy and had requested a suite upgrade. This gentleman had the distinct pleasure otf telling a grumpy (and maybe entitled) old man his upgrade had not come through. (I found out later the hotel was full for a wedding). He could not have been more understanding, respectful and patient during the experience. So much so, that I went up to him the next day and thanked him for being so kind. Don't forget the wine and cheese shop near the front of the hotel - well stocked and of course the store managers were delightful. We did not have dinner at the hotel and I fear that was our mistake. Not to worry as we WILL be back and if you are planning a trip to San Sebastien ou should consider the Maria Cristina as well.

So, this was the worst service I have ever experienced in a five-star hotel. When we arrived, our rooms weren’t ready yet, which wasn’t a problem since we were early. But the receptionist told us that the rooms would definitely be ready by 3 PM, that we could go into the city in the meantime, and that he would contact us as soon as the rooms were ready. However, that call never happened. Then, when we got back to the hotel at around 3:30, the rooms were still not ready. After waiting in line at the reception for about 15 minutes, another staff member approached us and asked if he could help. We explained the situation, saying that we would like to check in and that the rooms still weren’t ready. He took our names, said he would take care of it, and disappeared through a door behind the reception. After another 15 minutes, we realized he didn’t seem to be coming back, so we spoke to the other staff at the reception, who told us that the rooms simply weren’t ready yet. We mentioned that they were supposed to be ready by 3 PM, as that was the check-in time, but the only excuse we got was that they were fully booked, and that’s just how it was. We made quite a fuss, and suddenly, within about five minutes, all five rooms were magically ready, which was pretty strange. That was one situation that really bothered us. On the second day, in the evening, I was in my room at around 10 PM and wanted to order something from room service. The phone was broken, so I went down to the reception and asked if they could just send up a few slices of bread with some butter. They said it was no problem and that they would send it up to my room. After about an hour, I realized that no one had come, and nothing had happened. That’s kind of the situation in this hotel: the staff is friendly, but nothing they say actually gets done, and it just doesn’t live up to the service you would expect in a five-star hotel. What also happened to us was the following situation: we were standing in line at the concierge desk, wanting to speak with the concierge. Someone in front of us was talking to the concierge, and we got distracted for just a second. Suddenly, when it was our turn, there was no staff member at the concierge desk anymore. We waited for about ten minutes, and no one came back. The reception was staffed, so we went over to the receptionist and asked if they could please let the concierge know that we had a question and would like to speak with them. The receptionist said, “Sure, I’ll take care of it,” but stayed at his desk, finished with his current customer, and then another ten minutes went by without anything happening. After waiting another five minutes, we went back to the reception and spoke to another staff member, explaining that we had already informed their colleague and that we still needed to speak with the concierge. This time, the staff member went to the back, and within a minute, the concierge finally appeared. This was yet another example where we thought, you know, you speak to someone who’s working there, you tell them, “Hey, the concierge isn’t here, we’ve been waiting for ten minutes, could you please get them?” They say they’ll handle it, but then do nothing, forget about it, or whatever, and you end up standing around for another ten minutes. It’s just not worthy of a hotel of this category, this kind of poor service.

Such a fantastic hotel and staff. Incredible experience start to finish. Everyone was super nice and helpful. We even accidentally left behind some clothes and they found a way to get it to us at our next town in France. Highly recommend this hotel!!

We stayed here on 16th July for one night at the last minute. My brother made the booking as he is a frequent Marriott customer and had some way of doing so - when I had looked there was no room. Our stay was very pleasant. Our children were not put in an adjacent or interconnecting room as asked for and we were not able to receive an upgrade because it was a last minute booking - understood. The frustrating part started at our check out. I paid the bill assuming that all was being charged. There was no breakdown of charges at all - just the final amount. I asked for the invoice to be sent to my email address but it has never arrived. The hotel had charged 200€ extra on my card for expenses during our trip which I expected to be returned. Later they charged 29,95€ and a further 229,95€ on the card. We had invited a friend for breakfast so I presumed the 29,95€ was an extra breakfast charge. A few days later, nothing had been returned, so I called reception to enquire. Everyone was too busy, could I call later? I called again the next day. No one was available. They asked me to write an email. I wrote an email. No answer nor confirmation of the receipt of the email. I called again. The third time. Could someone please respond to me? I was told that they would. A few days passed. Yesterday I resent the email and added a few words about how frustrated I was that no one had deemed my query important enough to respond. I received a quick email informing me that breakfast wasn’t included and that I had been charged extra for them. Why not prevent all of this wasted time and misunderstandings by showing me a detailed bill on checking out? I had to call 3 times and send two email for this very simple point to be clarified. What a waste of time and bitter end to what was a nice albeit expensive stay.

NH Collection San Sebastián Aránzazu is an upscale hotel located in the elegant neighborhoods of San Sebastian. The classy rooms feature wood floors and complimentary Wi-Fi, offering a comfortable stay for guests. The hotel boasts a regional eatery and a bar, providing convenient dining options. Additionally, it stands out as a dog-friendly accommodation, catering to pet owners with essential amenities for their furry companions.
Had a very pleasant stay here. Enjoyed the spacious rooms and good air con and appreciated the helpful reception staff. Dogs are allowed and aren’t supposed to be left unattended but we did hear barking one night. Also walls seemed thin or soundproofing is limited - could hear people closing and opening doors and talking next door. Would stay again for the neighbourhood and proximity to the promenade to town and beach.
Kelly W — Google review
It is spotless, and very clean. The beds are comfortable. Even though we have not seen kids apart from our son in this hotel, it is quite family-friendly: they have a kid's corner in the restaurant during breakfast and they left a toiletries bag for our son on the bed: with cute cloud sponge and strawberry toothpaste. But they need to fix the fan in the bathroom, as the black mould starts appearing. Also, extras like parking and breakfast are overpriced. Breakfast choices are limited as well. 45 euros for a family with a child for breakfast is too much. Location: very close to beach but quite a walk from the old town, though in a safe and quiet area. The reception is very helpful and friendly.
Oksana S — Google review
Good location, very accommodating for dogs. We brought our GSD with us and all the staff were very welcoming. Room service was fantastic. Parking rates are high but expected given the demand and space. Street parking is available if you manage to get it. However the GM dog rates are very high compared to other hotels in both Spain and France, they're half the cost everywhere else we have stayed which is a long list. The customer service is inconsistent, which is a shame as some staff really are exceptional, others very grumpy. Rooms are very good only thing stopping the room from being a 5* is the lack of smart TV. Location is great, although 40 minutes stroll from old town. Lastly we were not told about the online app until day 3 of our stay. Log in to this as soon as you arrive at your room, let's lots of information and you can request for pretty much anything you might need on there. Super fast too, quicker than calling (nobody would ever pick up the phone when we used it)
Shay L — Google review
Nice hotel We stayed here a few night and really enjoyed it. The rooms were big enough and it was fairly good value as San Sebastian tends to be really expensive especially in Summer. The hotel was not really walking distance from town center for us, but it was not a problem as we had the car. If we are back in San Sebastian we would definitely come back here.
Paul V — Google review
This hotel was such a great find! The room was so spacious. They served wonderful breakfast every morning. Their hotel restaurant has a wonderful dinner menu. The staff were friendly and very responsive. I’d stay here again in the future.
Marleen A — Google review
Great location, 5-10 minute walk from the beach, the opposite side to old town. About a 40 minutes walk into old town, however there was so many restraunts in the area. Service was fab, when we got there, we thought the room smelt a little damp, ask to change and they swapped us immediately. On day 3 we found out about the app they have, where you can order basically anything, from cutlery, to phone charges ect. Parking at the hotel is expensive, but it was really hard to get parking on the street. And out of all the places we have been it was the most expensive for your pet, at €35 a night, so €140 euros we paid. There was a gym on site, which was great, cardio equipment, DBs, a multi gym cable machine, squat rack. Fridge, coffee machine. The hotel is stunning, very clean, great service and the rooms were really nice, hair dryer in the bathrooms too. Overall I would return.
Emma M — Google review
As someone who travels frequently for work and has stayed in a lot of hotels globally, I can confidently say the NH Hotel in San Sebastián has been the worst experience to date. We chose this hotel for the final leg of our honeymoon, expecting a relaxing, enjoyable stay—especially since this property is part of the American Express Hotel Collection and we have always had quality experiences with Amex hotels. That affiliation typically signals a certain level of service and professionalism. Unfortunately, what we experienced was the complete opposite. From the moment we arrived, the hotel staff were consistently rude and dismissive. Every interaction felt like a burden to them, and basic hospitality was nowhere to be found. Our room was hot and stuffy, with an air conditioning unit that didn’t work at all. Despite multiple complaints, nothing was done—no apology, no room change, no attempt to help. In fact the on duty managers suggestion was to “open the window” despite the fact that the extremely high humidity in the room was causing me an asthma attack. Do not stay here. This has been nothing but a completely unpleasant experience since the moment we walked in. There are plenty of hotels in San Sebastián that are better located, more comfortable, and actually value their guests.
Michelle J — Google review
We chose NH Collection San Sebastián based on its inclusion in the Amex Platinum Hotel Program, expecting a premium experience. Unfortunately, our stay was disappointing due to a major issue: the air conditioning simply does not work. Despite the hotel advertising that rooms have A/C, it was completely non-functional during our stay — a serious concern given the summer heat. When we raised this with the front desk, the response was dismissive and unhelpful. We were essentially told “that’s just how it is,” with no attempt to resolve the issue (I believe they just have no rooms with functional AC). If you’re expecting a hotel with working air conditioning, look elsewhere. This property does not live up to the standards it claims, and the lack of transparency and customer care was frustrating and unacceptable. Be warned. Location is nice.

Nestled in the charming Ondarreta district of Donostia/San Sebastián, Hotel ILUNION San Sebastián is a stylish retreat that perfectly blends comfort and convenience. Just a short stroll from the beautiful Ondarreta beach, this upscale hotel offers elegant rooms and suites equipped with air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and satellite TV. Guests can unwind on the sun terrace located on the fourth floor while enjoying stunning views.
Helpful staff and great location away from the busy old town. Beautiful walk to burn off the calories from pintxos if you venture to old town and also very close to lots of less touristy spots for food. Would stay again!

Hotel was decent but at the check out, we got surprised by a parking fee. At the check in we were told that it was included and to go park our car in their garage. We would have otherwise parked outside where there is parking available. We were only told about a 25 euros a day fee when we checked out. The hotel staff did not accept any responsibility. Very disappointing.
Anson D — Google review
This keeps coming up in other reviews. More 2/3 stars. I booked a week here and they don’t change the sheets or towels until you insist despite how dirty. Cleaning is not thorough despite the long stay. The rooms are super small with fixtures falling off. You can hear ppl in other rooms and the street crystal clear. Seriously from every sigh to every opening and closing of the toilet door and trickle of pee. Staff are unhelpful - I get it they must get so many of the same complaints. The location is also lack luster better to choose old town or Gros. Awful stay, don’t waste your time, energy or money!
Ange — Google review
Easiest check in and check out I've ever experienced. Advance check in was worth it. It made the process incredibly efficient and straight-forward. The hotel is very well located and the beach was very close nearby so the kids were delighted. Hotel is spotless with very pleasant staff.

I have never experienced such terrible service at a hotel restaurant. From the moment we arrived, the staff were rude, dismissive, and acted as if serving us was an inconvenience. We were ignored for an unreasonably long time before anyone even acknowledged our table, and when the server finally came over, their attitude was curt and unfriendly.
Lorena T — Google review
Overall, I was satisfied with my stay at Ilunion San Sebastián, but the check-in experience left a poor first impression. The receptionist at arrival was rather cold and provided little to no information about the hotel or its facilities — quite a contrast to the warm welcome I received at Ilunion Bilbao. The day before my arrival, I emailed the hotel to ask about parking and was told it was fully booked and that only public parking was available. So I was surprised to hear upon arrival that parking was in fact available, albeit at €25 per day. The room itself was not very large but spotlessly clean. The bathroom was spacious, with a nice walk-in shower. Breakfast was excellent, with a good variety of choices. Special thanks to Vanessa for her friendly and efficient service during breakfast. The hotel is about a 30-minute walk from the city center, but public transport is very convenient — bus lines 5 and 25 stop nearby, and tickets can be paid in cash or by card. Overall, the staff was friendly and helpful, with the exception of the receptionist at check-in. – Ivan

Very happy overall. Hotel ILUNION was our home for our 11 night exploration of San Sebastián. The location was perfect. Less than 5 mins walk from the lovely beach of Onderetta and directly across the road from Kalea Matia where there are local shops, supermarkets, bakeries, coffee shops and lots of decent restaurants. There is also public street parking nearby which is very cheap and easy to manage if you install the 'elparking' app on your phone. The hotel itself is modern and the rooms reasonably spacious. All the reception staff were very helpful. Breakfast buffet was OK and the staff there very attentive. Daily housekeeping service was OK but I would say, the cleanliness on the room on arrival could have been better. When we checked in to the room we found the surfaces of the shelving in the cupboard, the shower tray and the fridge to be dirty and had to clean them ourselves.
Robert L — Google review
Update: This was my second stay at the hotel, and I was pleased to see some thoughtful improvements—such as a kettle added to the room. I genuinely loved my stay. It’s clear the hotel has been recently renovated—everything feels fresh, modern, and tastefully decorated. The lobby is stylish and welcoming, and the reception staff offer excellent service. The rooms are comfortable and well-sized, with a proper desk, and the bathroom is spacious and convenient. The buffet breakfast was generous and varied. Although the breakfast area can feel a bit tight during busy times (we had a short wait), I really appreciated the inclusion of less typical options like porridge and vegetables—quite rare in Spain.

Hotel Catalonia Donosti is an upscale establishment located in San Sebastian, offering a refined Basque restaurant and a chic bar. The hotel is known for its pet-friendly policies, providing thoughtful amenities for furry companions. Conveniently situated near La Concha Beach and the city center, this 4-star hotel has received high ratings for its location, cleanliness, and overall experience. Guests can enjoy a range of facilities including a seasonal outdoor pool, fitness center, and on-site dining options.
We stayed here four nights while visiting San Sebastián and absolutely loved it. We had a terrace room with sea view. Although some other reviews say you can’t really see the water, that was not the case for us. The view was spectacular. The hotel has its own elevator into the town so you don’t have to deal with stairs up and down every time you go out. It is very central and we were able to get everywhere we wanted to go within a 20 min walk from the hotel. Breakfast is simple but lovely and was a great way to start the day. Staff were also very kind and helpful. Upon checking we were given lists of the best restaurants and pintxos places to check out during our trip. Our room came with use of the spa which we enjoyed as well - there is a small resting pool, cold plunge, steam room and dry sauna. The gym is small but has the basic equipment you would need for a simple full body workout (cable machine, free weights, bench, mats, bike, treadmill and elliptical). San Sebastián quickly became one of our favourite places we’ve visited and this hotel played a big part in that. Thank you Catalonia team for making our stay so lovely!

We really enjoyed our stay in this hotel. We had booked a suite, we wanted some extra space. The room was indeed very spacious, extremely clean, very good bathroom. We appreciated that the water in the room was in glass bottles and amenities in the bathroom were carefully chosen, practically no plastic and compostable. The breakfast was quite pricey, but a big selection and everything was high quality. We had dinner there the first night, and it was really good (we had the hake) and not overpriced for the quality of the dish. One minus point about the bar/dining room, is that the lighting is too bright, even for breakfast. The sound level of the music was also on the loud side, although no complaints about the music itself. One time we ordered a pizza from room service and it wasn’t very good, certainly not up to the standards of the rest of the food we had. Staff was friendly and helpful, absolutely no complaints. The hotel has a very adequate gym. We would definitely stay there again.

I loved staying at the Hotel Catalonia Donosti. My room had a small terrace and a spectacular shower with city views, incredible water pressure, and tons of space. I loved it. The breakfast was well priced, varied, and of high quality and the spa, parking and location were all fantastic. Staff were friendly and helpful and I made use of the laundry service which was relatively well priced, very quick (same day) and very clean.

We had a wonderful 3 nights at the hotel Catalonia in San Sebastián, in the Basque region of Northern Spain. The reception staff during booking in were very helpful and gave us helpful information regarding parking our car in the car park which was €25 euros per day. Our room was very comfortable with a large king size bed on the 4th floor. With spectacular views from the terrace bar on the 5th floor. We didn’t actually eat in the restaurant during our stay however the buffet breakfast’s were absolutely wonderful with everything you could imagine to enjoy including a fresh orange juice machine, cooked eggs, omelettes by the chef and even a glass of bubbly if you so desired. Highly recommended.

My wife/I chose this hotel because we were looking for a good quality hotel, within easy walking distance of the town, and with parking. The Catalonia hotel fitted the bill. We paid extra for a sea view room, mainly to avoid noise from the traffic on the busy road on the other side. This worked, we avoided the traffic noise. But you would need good eyesight to see the sea in the distance. If you chose a sea-view room for the view you would be disappointed. The room was perfectly clean, with no problems of any sort. We found the staff friendly and helpful. The elevator + passage leading directly to the street was very useful. I only had one minor disappointment - the bar was completely lacking in atmosphere, it was brightly lit, with upright chairs around small dining tables. The rooftop bar looked much nicer, but was closed because of the rainy weather. So better to go out to one of the many bars outside. It was not cheap, but it met what we wanted at a fair price for an expensive city.

I really enjoyed this hotel. Staff were friendly and efficient. Room was very comfortable… and view from roof bar was fantastic. The lift taking you down the hill made it easy to access San Sebastián old town and beach front. Breakfast was good

This hotel made our San Sebastián trip! We stayed here for 3 nights. The hotel staff were very friendly & attentive. The decor of the hotel is absolutely incredible, with every attention to detail. It’s about 10 minute walk from the bus station & 10-15 minutes to all the pintxos bars! It comes well equipped with a decent gym, unfortunately we didn’t have time to experience the spa (from all the pintxos eating!). Breakfast was also a highlight, from freshly cooked omelette to basque cheesecake! The rooftop pool & bar had exceptional views 😍 We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting San Sebastián! 10/10 🌟

Zenit San Sebastián is a modern hotel located in the Morlans area, near Amara in central San Sebastian. The property consists of a combination of a golden stone-built convent from 1887 and a contemporary extension. The newer section features a rooftop terrace with a pool, while the former convent houses the lobby and lounge adorned with colorful neo-Renaissance murals. The hotel offers comfortable rooms, some with tranquil natural-themed decor.
This is a great little hotel. It's not super fancy but is very nice and has everything you need. Comfy beds and quiet for a good night's sleep, nice bathrooms. Excellent service and a very good restaurant. It's in a quieter neighborhood so you can escape the chaos of the tourist district, but it's only an easy walk or short bus ride from everything. Recommend!
Caron G — Google review
A decent enough hotel where everything works, including a small gym. A few frustrations; it's not possible to book a parking space despite having numbered bays directly under the hotel - why not? For some travellers this is important. The car charing worked fine though (2 bays). No coffee in the rooms, nor free coffee downstairs. Don't eat at the hotel, it's not great, and there's fantastic food EVERYWHERE else. . .

Awful awful..I’ve never been so disgusted by a hotel. First when booking they pressured us into renting a room when we called saying it was the last room when it wasn’t. Then on top they were really unpleasant they didn’t even help us with our luggage after a long drive. Finally we get into our EXPENSIVE room and we go to rest to find our bed full of hairs!!!!! I’ve never never seen anything like this!! NEVER! We called and they said sorry didn’t offer any help!!! The next day they said they will clean the room thoroughly like we would trust them. You expect the room to be clean the first time coming! When we asked for our money back they would not and refused to…the lowest poor disgusting service I’ve ever seen! Of If I could report them to authorities for hygiene i would. Imagine what we couldn’t see!!!! Don’t got to this hotel!!!

Great option for the price point. Although the location is not the most convenient if you aim to go to the old town and to the bleach, there are bus stops nearby (5 min) and the buses were great. Hotel is clean and the stuff is very good. The breakfast has good options. The bed is ok and the pillows were huge and we did not like it.
Frederico T — Google review
Nice & clean hotel with everything you need for a few nights stay. In the restaurant not all the waitresses speak English which gets sometimes problematic but not too much. Overall a great experience.
Luka L — Google review
Pets allowed, BUT not 2 in one room. And agree with other comments. No help with luggage or directions. Very rude man at front desk, claimed to be manager. Candy on front desk is not complimentary, threatened to call police for taking a piece. Nobody in the restaurant at dinner! Yet fully booked. Couch had some brown spots that looked like bed bug residue.
Roberto V — Google review
Beautiful hotel and staff was very accommodating. Hotel is in a residential area and so be prepared to walk to the beach and center, but we had no problem with that. We had dessert room serviced one night and it was delicious. I believe there was a hot tub but we weren't given much detail on it, so we did not have the chance to use it.

Perfect spot to spend a little more and get a suite out of the hustle and bustle of the old town. Bus 38 takes you to town in minutes or it's a 15 minute dander down the riverfront.

Hotel Avenida offers modern rooms, some with city and garden views, along with amenities like an outdoor pool, fitness room, and parking. The hotel holds historical significance as it was visited by Hemingway during his trips to Spain. Situated in a residential area of the city, it provides a quiet and calm environment. While being about a 45-minute walk from the old town, guests can enjoy beautiful city views and even catch glimpses of the bay from their windows.
We have stayed here a few times, I can't believe I am just leaving a review. We stayed here a few years ago and then again last year and then again this year. I love that the place is dog friendly and comfortable. We extended our initial booking this time, but were happy to stay longer and longer. The service is great, someone is always at the desk and always willing to assist you with any questions. We love that our dog is also welcomed with treats and a bed, though, he still wants his bed also. And though we do have to keep the dog on lead, there is a green area where he can be off lead and run around. The rooms are clean, spacious and warm (or cool). It is a short walk into town, there is a shine next door dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes, which can be a lovely place to pray or just have some peace.

Great family run hotel. Staff were wonderful and hard working, had no stress at all. The room was spotless and a lovely big, comfy bed. The breakfast is 14 euros and worth it, we had it once and went into to local cafes on other occasions to sample cafe life. The hill- 10 minutes to the nearby shops/ cafes and there are 2 bus routes on it. Not a stress, get to the hotel early and you will get a parking space. Near to the beach and a supermarket. Excellent place.

Just out of town by a 10 minute walk. So nice and quiet. Number 16 bus is useful. Restaurant next door needs booking in advance. We couldn’t get in. We ate in town and it was fine. Easy access to the seafront. Breakfast excellent. Patio tables available if you want to be outside. Rooms excellent. Pleased with our choice.

The best 3* hotel I’ve stayed in, should be 4* in my opinion. The room was huge, big comfortable bed and very clean and modern. They welcomed our two dogs with some treats. They also have a dedicated dog area outside which I’ve not seen in a hotel before - so nice to have! The staff are very friendly and in a good location. Plenty of parking too which is good. We had a wonderful stay at Casual de las Olas in San Sebastián! The hotel was comfortable, clean, and in a great location, but what really made our experience special was Erick. He went above and beyond with his kindness, help, and recommendations. Thanks to him, we discovered amazing local spots and enjoyed the city like true insiders. Erick’s hospitality made us feel so welcome, and we are truly grateful for all his support during our visit. Highly recommend this place—especially if you get the chance to be helped by Erick!

The rooms were clean, big and super comfy. A good selection in breakfast as well and very friendly staff all around. Do note it's about a 20 min walk to get to the shopping streets but for the price you pay and all the food you are going eat, it's a good workout. Our only challenge was the parking, it was crazy to find the entrance to parking affiliated with the hotel. Ask for a good description of how to get there.

There Is one big problem and Its the parking. there were literally no parking spots left and also the expensive parking places were full. we had to park in the city centre, which Is far Away to carry your luggage. The room was fine. very comfortable bed, I appreciate coffee machine. there were just two problems with the room - 1. WC "room" sliding door was not possible to close (!), 2. there was a balcony which we werent suppoused to use (what a pitty). breakfast was absolutely tasteless (spanish good Is so so good, I dont get it), but really good coffee and delicious butter croissants. i also have to mention strong WiFi connection.

Our first stay here and we absolutely loved it! The hotel staff were amazing—friendly & helpful throughout our stay. The rooms are modern, very clean, and had everything we needed. I felt instantly relaxed as soon as we arrived. We drove here and found off-street parking easily around the hotel. The area feels safe, quiet, and is a peaceful contrast to the busier downtown. Plus, public transport is super convenient with a bus stop just around the corner. Highly recommend this hotel—we’ll definitely be back!

Great hotel. Room was clean and very well-appointed. Staff was great - very helpful. Breakfast was delicious and the buffet had everything. Only issue is the location. It's at the top of a very big hill, not near town, and there's really nothing near it. It's in the middle of a residential area. There is a bus route that runs right near the hotel that takes you into town, so that I'd convenient. I'd definitely recommend the hotel.
Brent R — Google review
A fantastic stay in the Tres Reyes hotel ! Just checked out of the hotel this morning (booking done with my boyfriend name) and it was 3 perfect days. The hotel is clean, nice, has everything that you need, and room and bathroom are spacious enough to be comfortable. Didn't try the gym but went to the swimming pool which is quite nice for a little break (just don't expect to be able to swim for sport). The environment is very calm which is welcome after the buzzing life of San Sebastian. It is not located in the city center, however there are regular buses to go to the city which make the trip quite easy and not very long (take bus number 28 or 17, both will bring you to the city center at slightly different places), the trip is around 20/25 min. Good to know : last bus departs at 23h15 from city center to the hotel and uber is not working here, so do not miss it or go find a taxi :) A word about the service here which is fantastic, everybody welcome you with a smile and make everything they can to make your stay the best, there are never any problem with what you can ask and they are very open to facilitate everything. Even when we arrived later than planned an evening and that the restaurant was already empty, they still welcomed us with a smile and served us food. This make the stay on another level :) About food : the breakfast is really good with quality products, fresh orange juice, good coffee, freshly baked pancakes, eggs, bacon and so on, tasty fresh fruits.. you can also find gluten free and lactose free products. Also tried the restaurant one evening and that was delicious ! Finished everything including the bread which was also good. Wine was reasonnably priced and good too. Thank you for the nice stay, we will be back ! Good points : - Rooms clean and big - Clean - The service - Calm environment - Food - Well connected to bus lines
Justine G — Google review
The rooms are very clean, spacious, and comfortable—felt just like home. Beds were super comfy and the hotel is well-maintained. For the price, it’s a great deal in this area. The bathroom has a sliding wooden door on one side, which can be see-through if not closed properly. Not ideal if you're sharing with friends, but fine for couples or solo travellers. The bidet was a nice touch, though water pressure was low. Breakfast was excellent with lots of variety. It’s around €20—slightly expensive but worth it for the options and location. Big downside: the Wi-Fi is very weak and unstable, especially during the day. I got access to a private network once, but it stopped working after some time. Staff are friendly and helpful, and reception is open 24/7. There’s a nice outdoor area with greenery where you can sit, eat, or relax.

Stayed here for 6 nights. All the Staff are exceptional,a real credit to the hotel. Nice room looking over greenery,( room 106) As guests state location is out of town, ( which is what we wanted),but there are lots of buses into san sebastion & back. A good trail real close by for walk or run . Highly recommend

We only arrived i have not tried anything yet , room and all is looking absolutely beautiful, we went to the old town and got caught by rain but my husband already ordered cheese cake so i told him - lets take it with us - we have an amazing view from our hotel bar - we can order coffee or other drinks can hang out there . So thats what we did . Than very angry woman in big glasses with attitude told me i can have it only in our room , it’s forbidden to have anything over there, why ? Is in it a bar and coffee area ? i said i ordered coffee , felt nothing but humiliated . I wanted to enjoy the view and my time here why should i have it as if i stole it in my room ? An anyone tell me ?

If you're seeking a perfect blend of low-key luxury, stunning scenery, and convenience, look no further. We can't wait to return!

Guests have praised the pleasant accommodation, spacious rooms with climate control, delicious breakfast buffet with plenty of options, friendly and helpful staff members, as well as its convenient location on the bus route to the old town.
The hotel and rooms were nice, however the bed and pillow were very hard and I barely slept for the 3 nights we were there. The hotel is not close to the beach (25min walk). I was in this hotel with a couple with a dog, which it’s great if you want easy parking and hotel friendly dog.

We decided to stay a little out of the main centre, basically for a noise break. This hotel is great, the rooms are good and the service is excellent. The local bus stops 50 metres away with a fare of 1.85 euro to the Boulevard, main part of old town. We will stay here again on our next trip.

If you’re looking for beachfront hotels this is not the one for you - but if you have a car it’s a great option. Very quiet, super clean and nice rooms with decent beds, but no coffee or kettle in the rooms (boo!). Easy to get to the beach and town centre on regular buses and takes about 10 mins only (walking to bus stop included)
Stuart A — Google review
Not bad, but lacks spirit. 2km from beach front and rooms offering highway views 😱, I agree that room service (cleaning) is excellent, but beware that their service starts at 8.30am and, given that rooms are not really sound-proof, it’s difficult to sleep later in the morning. All for an over €200 price per night in august, you decide!!

Nice quiet hotel, room was quiet large, cosy and clean. All staff was very nice and helpful. They helped with all our requests. Easy access to car park and possibly to have a roof car box. Located a bit far from the centre, however, it is easy to get there by bus. Bus stop is right in front of the hotel.

Very rude services at the reception! The woman was telling me off for asking for the WiFi code while we were checking in. She was telling me that there is no bed for our child and was not even apologetic. The whole time I felt that I was bothering her despite paying 300 euros per night!

Great clean hotel in the best location. Only 4 min walk to the beach, less than 10 min to old town. Lots of restaurants, cafes and supermarket. Room is clean. Hot water in shower. Excellent location. 6 mins from the bus station/train station, in the shopping district, very close to the beach and the old town too. We had a room with an internal balcony with table and chairs plus fridge and microwave which was a great addition. Comfy beds, decent shower. Very friendly welcome with lots of suggestions. Only thing that could be an issue are the thin walls, but fortunately we did not have noisy neighbours. Good value for money, compared with other possibilities. Really enjoyed our stay.

A few issues at check in but, Carla was very friendly and helpful. Great location in San Sebastian, a lovely city. The accomodation was very comfortable, extremely clean and well decorated . Very reasonable price but, bear in mind, although free parking, a bus ride away, is available, it's more convenient to park locally at 27€ a night plus, if you have a pet, it's an extra €10. This all makes a €48 room, which is excellent value, become an €85 visit. I recommended it though.

Visited for a walk after hotel check in. Many people enjoyed sun tunning, running, walking and relaxing. I wish I could visit again with beech goods like half pants, beech shoes and towel. It looks like facility has shower and lockers etc.

We have family who live very close to the beach , and the views are amazing . The water is also very blue and salty🌊☀️ I would like to come here multiple times but I think alot of people have a budget to spend☹️

Sercotel Europa San Sebastián is a classic 3-star hotel offering comfortable and elegant rooms with period decor. Located just a few meters from La Concha beach, this early 20th-century building exudes charm and character. The hotel features an on-site restaurant serving traditional cuisine and a polished bar offering light meals. Guests can enjoy amenities such as free Wi-Fi, car park, room service, meeting facilities, and a clean gym.
We had a lovely surprising stay at the Sercotel San Sebastián hotel. The fellows at the Reception desk very very accommodating and made us feel welcome! Kudos!! Our room was top notch! Beautifully redecorated and an incredible view of the Palace of Justice. We will definitely stay again!!

Excellent location, clean, and service was good. It is advertised as having on site parking. There was no on-site parking at all. Completely false. I stayed here largely in part because they said the have on site parking. They should tell you in advance were the off site parking is so you can just go there first. Very unhappy about the parking. Room was very expensive being off season as well. Would be worth it in season. Staff unable or unwilling to assist with adjusting television captions.

Great place to stay. Needed a place for one night waiting for family to arrive. Easy walk from the bus station. Centrally located and easy walk to shops and old town. Nice balcony. Great(!) breakfast! Really good food but the fresh squeezed orange juice alone would make it worth it. No issues with this place. I’d stay again!

From before we arrived I felt it good hands with your hotel. The email just before arriving was informative and clear. Our check-in process was quick, and the room was great. I also think the location is perfect, just close enough to everything to make my walking experience a good one.

I had a pleasant stay at Sercostal in San Sebastián. The staff was truly wonderful—warm, welcoming, and eager to share helpful local tips. Breakfast offered a nice variety, and the wait staff was attentive and kind. My room was very clean, though quite small, and could benefit from a few minor renovations. Overall, my experience was satisfactory and made enjoyable by the excellent service

Location is the biggest positive; while you're not immediately on the beach you're only one street over, it's like a minute or two walk. Also not a far walk to the part of town with all the pintxos bars, and likewise an easy walk to or from the bus station. Rooms are okay, generally in good shape, but not necessarily anything to write home about. Certainly adequate. Shower space is very small, and the air conditioning struggled to get anywhere under 23C / 73F in the heat of the summer. Ordinarily I'd give it a 4/5. But when checking in, I discovered my room had been given to someone else! Apparently someone with a "similar" name but I don't even think the right number of people on the reservation. In many years of travel I don't think I've experienced that before. It was eventually resolved and I was given some other room, but it just seems sloppy. I'd consider staying here again but I'd probably look around at some other options first.

Good clean hotel. One block from the beach. Varied breakfast served until late. Has a gym but didn’t try it. Air con didn’t work very well.

I stayed at the Sercotel Hotel Europa for a week in June '25 with my daughter as we were using San Sebastian as a base to explore the area. The hotel was great from start to finish. We booked through booking.com and the communication with the reception at the hotel was clear and efficient and they fully answered any questions we had. We opted for one of the superior twins and the room was perfectly fine. Check in was straightforward (we checked in online before) and the reception staff were helpful with tips for our days out when we asked. The beds were firm but comfy, there was complimentary water in the mini bar fridge alongside the other offerings and from the Juliet balcony we could see the ocean just one street away. The AC worked well for us though we only used it a few of the really hot nights. The housekeeping was great and the room was kept fresh and clean for us. Breakfast was well organised and a perfect start to the day with a good range of hot and cold options plus fresh juices, fruit and hot drinks. Positioning was great with easy access to both the main beach, the cosmopolitan shopping area and the old town. There was plenty of choices of places to eat ranging from "treat" fine dinning to some wonderful vibrant Pintxos bars. We parked for the week at the Garaje Norte which although not cheap (c25 euro a day) was really straightforward and less than 2 mins walk from the hotel door. The garage staff park and secure your car for you and then bring it out again when you need it - we found them all very helpful and polite and had no issue retrieving our vehicle each time we needed it for a day trip out. Overall the hotel was great and I would certainly book again when I return to the area.

Sercotel Codina is a casual hotel with simple rooms, some featuring terraces and bay views. It's conveniently situated within an 11-minute walk of Funicular Railway and near Ondarreta Beach and Miramar Palace. The location is ideal for exploring the city and beaches, with a bus stop right outside the door. Guests appreciated the helpful and courteous front desk staff, as well as the cleanliness of the hotel and well-maintained rooms.
I really enjoyed staying here. It was our second time at this hotel and the first time we brought our dog. The rooms are clean and nice for the price and the location is great, about a two minute walk to the west side of la concha playa. They are a dog friendly hotel and even brought us a dog bed and some other items that we greatly appreciated! Also, if you’re staying on the west side of the hotel, you only get view of the sea from the 4th or 5th floor.

We had a wonderful stay at the hotel! We were a group of six and booked three rooms. The location was excellent—central and convenient for everything we wanted to do. The staff overall was friendly and welcoming, but what truly made our experience exceptional was Laura at the front desk. From the moment we arrived, she went the extra mile—something that’s rare to find in hotels these days. When we had a small issue with one of the rooms, we offered to pay for an upgrade, but instead, she kindly upgraded us at no additional cost. It was such a thoughtful gesture and made us feel genuinely cared for. Throughout our stay, Laura continued to be incredibly helpful. She gave us fantastic daily recommendations for restaurants and places to visit, and was always available to assist us with anything we needed, no matter how small. Her warmth, professionalism, and attention to detail truly stood out. Thanks to her and the overall great service, we had an amazing experience. We’d gladly stay here again and highly recommend it!
Andy V — Google review
We had a premium room with a large terrace on 7th floor. On first glance, everything looked great. However, we had requested a double bed and we were given twins pushed together. We asked reception if this could be changed but they only have twin beds. The beds are also rock hard that we woke up in pain every day, the hotel has no other type of mattress so we had to suffer. The bathroom was a big space, but the shower cubicle was tiny, constantly hitting elbows and very difficult to wash hair. It room overall wasn't very clean. The corners of the floor were dirty, blinds dirty, and just generally a bit grubby. Breakfast is really not worth paying extra for, there are lovely bakeries and a supermarket near by which are so much better than the hotel breakfast. The staff were lovely and the location is perfect, in the quieter part of town but still near the beach and a bus stop outside the door that will take you anywhere you need to go in San Sebastian. I would definitely choose the location again, but unfortunately not the hotel.

Excellent hotel with very pleasant, friendly & well-informed staff. Spacious, comfortable rooms and ideally situated for the beach & the old town. Super buffet breakfast with ample choice of hot & cold options. We visited with 2 dogs & the hotel provided bowls & beds for them too!

This hotel offers comfortable and well equipped rooms and you can park your car. Location is excellent. Breakfast room was small and busy but reasonable selection. However there are no public spaces except a small snack bar open only in the morning. Staff all very helpful and friendly

We loved the location of this hotel. We did not want to be right in the center of town, and really enjoyed that this was a bit more residential but still an easy walk to everything. The staff were extremely friendly and we did use the café for our morning breakfast. Our only complaint is that you can hear the cars in the street, as well as people in the hallways.

Hotel San Sebastián Orly Affiliated by Meliá is a straightforward property that offers well-lit rooms with either sea or city vistas, along with complimentary breakfast. The hotel's location is quite convenient, although parking can be challenging and expensive for guests arriving by car. The building itself may not be visually appealing, but the rooms are described as cozy and more favorable compared to other accommodations.
Our two-night stay at the Orly Hotel was absolutely wonderful. We brought our mini Goldendoodle along, and were happy to find dog treats and wipes waiting in the room when we arrived. Such a thoughtful touch! The hotel was incredibly dog-friendly, which made our stay even more enjoyable. The location was also perfect. We highly recommend it!

Tip: Ask for sea view on the highest floor possible. For the great location and the size and quality of rooms, the reasonable price makes this one of the best value hotels in San Sebastián. We didn’t ask for views, but ended up with two rooms on the 4th floor, one overlooking the sea and the other looking over the old town. The sea view is incredible and the entire outer wall is window so that you can marvel from anywhere in the room. You can open the windows to hear the waves crashing against the shore. There is secure underground parking. Note that there is no room service, but honestly you don’t need it in this city, you should really head out enjoy all the food in as many different places as possible. Most importantly, I found the staff here incredible. My father hurt his leg during our travels on the day we arrived and the reception staff and even workmen helped almost carry him in from the entrance. Staff went out of their way to help us. When I asked to extend our stay by a day, the receptionist gave me a good tip to get the best price possible. I’m so grateful for their hospitality - it would have been very difficult for us to enjoy the trip otherwise. I’ll be back - next time without the drama!

A Honeymoon Disaster - Beyond Disappointing Experience I am writing this review with deep frustration and disappointment. My spouse and I booked what was supposed to be a premium sea-view room at this hotel to celebrate our wedding night and the start of our honeymoon. I even mentioned the special occasion in advance, hoping for some extra care. Considering it’s low season and rooms were still available online, we expected the hotel to deliver on its promises. Unfortunately, this stay was anything but special. I want to note, that the room assigned to us looked NOTHING like the pictures. Not just because obviously the hotel is not take care of, but the size, conditions or the type of room. The shower is covered id mold, from lack of properly cleaning it. My husband and I have both woken up with terrible allergies. From the moment we walked into the room, the reality was worlds apart from the photos we had seen online. The walls were either damaged, stained, or both. The bathroom was downright unacceptable – there was shower gel residue left in the tub, along with strands of hair and even a small spider. There is literal mold growing in the shower and other walls in the room. It honestly felt like the room hadn’t been properly cleaned or maintained for months. The entire space gave off the impression of being run-down and uncared for. Still, we tried to make the most of it. However, when we kindly approached the front desk staff later that evening to share our concerns – emphasizing that this was our wedding night – the gentleman’s response was shockingly rude and dismissive. He coldly stated there was nothing he could do without offering so much as an apology or even congratulations for our special occasion. The lack of courtesy was astonishing. It’s really disheartening because I know from family experiences in Spain that other hotels take pride in helping guests celebrate meaningful moments – my parents many times received champagne and thoughtful treats for their anniversary. But here, it seems this hotel either doesn’t care or simply doesn’t value its guests. This experience was a complete letdown. I’ve attached photos to show the poor condition of the room we were given. It’s hard to believe this was supposed to be a “premium” experience. I genuinely hope no one else has to go through something like this, especially when celebrating something as important as a wedding or honeymoon.

Stayed here for 3 nights in Junior Suite with Terrace. The hotel location is great, very close to La Concha beach and a short walk to Old Town. Staff were very friendly and conscientious. The parking is super convenient. The room was tidy, clean, and a great layout. We were travelling with toddler and found the suite layout + terrace + large bathroom allows plenty of flexibility to stay up and enjoy the space after your child has gone to sleep.

Had a 4 night stay here and was upgraded from a standard room to a superior one, which included tea and coffee facilities. Had a view over nearby buildings to the beach. Staff were very polite and helpful, we added the breakfasts for €16 each per day, which we felt was well worth it. The room was sparsely furnished, only one chair and the bedside tables were just tables, no drawers for storage and the wardrobe was small with limited space, so we had to keep things in our suitcases. Location was good, situated one street back from the centre of the bay. Restaurant only provides breakfast and a limited room service, mainly pizza.
Martin H — Google review
This place is a total rip-off. The furniture was straight out of the 70s, towels and sheets were stained, beds were uncomfortable. There was also a strange damp smell in the lobby and room. The staff was friendly and the location is great, but they’re the only positive points about it. This should have been 1/4 of the price charged.
Lorraine L — Google review
Stay away! I don’t understand some of the positive reviews. I included some pics of the actual condition of the hotel room. Mold in the bathroom, cheap and worn out decoration, small room. Not even the view made up for it.

Koisi Hostel is a modern property offering simple dorms and rooms with a funky bar and rooftop terrace. The mixed dormitory rooms feature ensuite bathrooms, pod-style beds for added privacy, and amenities such as a cafe, bar, microwave, and kettles. Additionally, the hostel provides a sunbathing terrace and lending library.
Stayed here with two families in a private room for 8, was a great hostel experience with kids 10/10/12/12 , smart little kitchen, clean and tidy. Not for the feint hearted, at the top of a hill so enjoy the walk. Staff very helpful, good amenities and nice chilled vibe, check in was speedy, and got a WhatsApp chat with reception and helped with all questions. 10/10 would stay again.

I would not recommend this hostel, poorly cleaned and does not have controllable A/C. This review is being written at 3 a.m., as my room was so hot I was sweating throughout the night. We text their number asking it to be turned down, but no one seemed to be monitoring this. The common areas were much cooler than my room. I have stayed in plenty of tropical regions with no A/C or lacking consistent electricity, but this should not be acceptable in a location advertising the service and in a time of the year with moderate temperatures. The room also was no thoroughly cleaned as there was always lots of sand on the floor in the room.
Simon K — Google review
One of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed in. Coming from a couple of disappointing stays before this, Koisi Hostel felt like a breath of fresh air — spotless, modern, bright, and very comfortable. The interior design gives a cozy, welcoming vibe that immediately makes you feel at ease. The staff were friendly and helpful, especially the Argentinian guy at the small bar near the entrance (didn’t catch his name, but he was great!). The only slight downside is the location — it’s a bit tricky to reach, though to be fair, most of San Sebastián has its fair share of steep hills and winding streets. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay here and would absolutely come back.

Beautiful hostel, we had booked a double room and really liked it. The place also offers coffee, breakfast and a community kitchen to prepare some food. Great location and very nice staff.

Room was clean, bed is comfortable, shower has strong water. Service was less personal, they communicated through WhatsApp and checking in was done online with a key code. Location is far from the city center about 40 minutes walk. It's a nice place to rest for the night but not socializing

Very comfortable private room in a hostal. Comfortable cafe space downstairs. Easy to access the facility. It is a little far from center of San Sebastian. There is a nice beach, cafes, and a small market within easy walking distance.
Kyle M — Google review
When I arrived, I was a bit surprised why so many neighbours were putting up posters in the windows to protest against the hostel, but I can understand it to a certain extent. In the room, the shower drain was blocked, causing a flood and the room door to swell so that it could no longer be closed properly. The locker I was given could not be locked as it was broken, unfortunately I was robbed by another traveller. It should be pointed out that the kitchen does not offer facilities for hot meals. It got loud every evening and the staff didn't bother to stop it. Despite all my criticism, I would also like to mention the staff member Sophia positively, she was particularly attentive and nice. Monte Ulía is a 243-meter high hill located to the east of San Sebastian, offering a great hiking opportunity with stunning views. Originally designated for aristocratic leisure in the early 20th century, it is now a popular hillwalking area and part of the Coastal Route on the Way of Saint James. The hotel nearby offers simple rooms with balconies, a cafe/bar, and free parking.
Really good hotel. Close to a bus stop which takes you into town but easy to walk within 20/30 mins. Clean rooms which are modern and have all the facilities. Not the newest of hotels but feels well kept. High powered showers which is always a win!
Tom P — Google review
We originally booked Monte Ulia for 2 nights, but we enjoyed our stay so much that we extended it for an extra night! The hotel is in a great location—about a 20–25 minute walk to the Gros area of San Sebastián, and if you want to go further into town, there are several buses that get you there in just 10–15 minutes. A big highlight of our stay was the service. Jon, one of the receptionists (and the one we saw the most), was absolutely amazing. He went out of his way to accommodate us when we wanted to stay an extra night, helping us find another room without any hassle. He also gave us fantastic recommendations for where to go for pintxos, drinks, and even the best spots in town to watch the fireworks. Overall, Monte Ulia was a perfect base for exploring San Sebastián. Comfortable stay, great location, and outstanding service—especially thanks to Jon! Highly recommend.

Rooms - a bit dated, but very well cleaned every day. Had a huge TV in the room. Receptionists polite and with decent knowledge of English. I've seen how helpful, polite and patient they were with some quite rude guests. Breakfast - ok, same every morning, with a very polite and always smiling waitress. Location is a bit far from the city, but that also means it is much more quiet during the night. Bus station (I recommend bus anyway) is nearby and hotel has a big parking lot.

Good clean room but extremely warm. Very friendly staff. Lack of gluten free options for breakfast. They need to know the day before. Nice small place that allow pets.
Eduardo L — Google review
My room was thinly soundproof. You could easily hear what was going on in the next room. Furthermore, the windows of the room overlooked the street, which was very busy. It was difficult to fall asleep. The furniture in the room was very shabby and scratched. One fan blade was broken. Some of the blinds on the window were of poor quality. You had to tape them to the left and right sides of the window to prevent the sun from blazing into the room in the morning. The hairdryer holder in the bathroom was not secured. Some of the towel rails were rusty. The breakfast buffet was extensive, but there were problems with the hot drinks. "Hot" water for tea reached a maximum of 70 degrees Celsius, and the coffee machine didn't always do what it was supposed to. Connections to the city center were only by bus and taxi. Regarding my experience I unfortunately cannot recommend the hotel.

Great little hotel! Rooms very clean and tidy. I've seen some reviews saying the rooms are small but I felt it was a very good size compared to many European destinations. Nice hotel to stay in and a good value but the location is not good. It is a 30 minute walk from everywhere you want to be in San Sebastian as a tourist. A great place to stay — quiet, affordable and delightfully within walking distance to everything! Located on the riverbank, the hotel is close to the city center, the beach, the intercity bus station and makes for wonderful riverside evening walks. The room was very clean, tastefully decorated and equipped with universal-plug sockets which was very convenient. The staff was so polite and helpful. Having arrived late at night after a long journey from Canada, I already felt better with a nice and friendly checkin experience. The person at the reception offered a map of the city and happily showed me the must-visit places and how to get to them :) Overall, had the nicest stay and would definitely recommend!

We stayed overnight going to Spain and again on our return journey. A great place to stay. One strange rule, if you have a dog - you are not allowed to leave it in the room (perfectly acceptable) but you cannot it to breakfast. Apparently then the hotel make an exception you can leave your dog in the room. A suggestion for Casual del Jazz - dog owners can have breakfast on the tables outside of the restaurant. We had to leave the hotel without breakfast , two times.

Sarriegi Pensión is a 2-star accommodation located just a short 9-minute walk from Zurriola. The hotel offers a lift and a tour desk for convenience. Guests have praised the friendly and helpful front desk staff, as well as the stylishly renovated rooms. The hotel's central location allows for easy exploration of San Sebastian on foot, with practical tips provided to navigate parking and traffic. The proximity to old town, beaches, and attractions makes it an excellent choice for travelers.
Fantastic small hotel. Location was great, right on the border of the old town, with easy access to anywhere you might want to go in San Sebastian. Our room was overlooking the square which was pleasant but we also got a little noise disturbance which we accepted as just one of those things if you want to be where the bars and restaurants are. Plenty of space for our things, a nice comfy bed, and a great shower were all we needed.
Ken B — Google review
Our experience at this pension was disappointing. The room was much smaller and more basic than the photos suggested. The air conditioning was broken, and despite asking twice, it was never fixed, making the stay uncomfortable. Road noise was constant, the pillows were thin and uncomfortable, and there was no hot water on the first morning. The staff were nice but did not speak English, which made communication difficult. On the plus side, the location is good, and there is a lift to the second floor, but overall, I would not recommend staying here unless you request the rooms at the rear which are quieter and they fix the a/c!

Perfect location, good service and clean room. We especially liked the terrace. Since, the hotel is located in the downtown area, it might be too loud for Europeans. Fantastic. Three of the best front desk staff I have ever encountered. Super friendly and helpful. The hotel has been stylishly renovated. We were a party of seven who took over four rooms. Drop your luggage, park your car and never use it again..everything is great on foot. Polka opposite the hotel is fab for breakfast.

Monte Igueldo, situated on the western end of La Concha Bay in San Sebastián, is a popular destination for travelers seeking breathtaking views and entertainment. Visitors can take a charming 40-minute stroll along the seafront promenade before boarding the vintage funicular railway that ascends to the modest 181m summit. At the top, an old-fashioned amusement park awaits, featuring attractions like a rollercoaster with stunning cliffside views and various family-friendly rides.
The boat ride is very charming and great views of the city once you get the funicular up. A lovely break from the hustle and bustle of the city
Paul D — Google review
Super nice view, that’s all as this s mostly a lil park for kids to run around. The funicular isn’t worth the >1 hour wait but I insisted as I thought I d be able to enjoy the ride, I was wrong. Overall attractions aren’t attractive, and the only hotel restaurant to avoid. There is though a lil bar on the side selling refreshments at half of the prices and queue, if needed rather go there. I mean, it’s a must go but you may be disappointed
AiNe E — Google review
Easy level trekking (more like walking), easier if you have car 😁. Loved the views. There is small entrance fee and also the other activities for which you have pay small amount but for one time experience I think it’s okay. It’s best place for kids, the park is full of games and stuff for kids.
Pallavi P — Google review
Great views and trails but nothing much on the top itself. Enjoy the ride up stopping at the various points along the way.

The Comb of the Wind (Eduardo Chillida, 1976) is a renowned contemporary sculpture made of iron that stands in contrast to the landscape and sea. Located at the end of Ondarreta Beach in San Sebastian, this magnificent work by Eduardo Chillida consists of three rusted steel sculptures positioned on several rocks. The artist intended for these pieces to caress the indomitable Cantabrian wind, reflecting his deep connection to the area where he lived.
We stopped here for a while during a business trip to Bilbao in late 2022. This place is so relaxing. It is so calming to watch and listen to the waves crashing on the rocks. There is a hole where you can feel the sensation of the waves crashing between the rocks. It is so nice to be here even for a moment. We visited during the day and there were almost no people visiting. It was so peaceful at that time. I met a very friendly local. I asked his name at that time, but (sorry) I forgot to remember her name.. If you visit San Sebastian, you need to take some time to enjoy the waves crashing here. It was such an amazing experience. Warm regards from Indonesia, TH
Tresno H — Google review
Great spot to take a walk and take in the beautiful house line of the amazing san sebastian. Great pieces of art, the sculpture are impressive in the mid day sunshine.

Where land and open sea meet; celebrated by Land Art. (I would have appreciated some onsite background info of the artwork. I think it is a play of the city's initials /symbols as touched by the sea and weather.) Powerful photo opportunity.
LIA K — Google review
Originally planned to come here for a quick visit and ended up staying a lot longer than intended as it was such a relaxing place to be. It was calming watching and listening to the waves crashing against the rocks here, plus there were some great views across the bay. This would be an ideal place to watch the sun go down on a warm summer's day and if I'm ever in San Sebastian again, I'll be sure to do just that.

The restaurant offers a delightful atmosphere with friendly staff and exceptional food. Every dish was flavorful and beautifully presented. A wonderful dining experience that left me eager to return yes
Tiago C — Google review
Wonderful! An amazing ensemble of three iron plastics that resist the force of water and winds for so long. The ocean was calm and thankfully the fountain was not spewing water, but its angry voice could be heard. We visited early in the morning and there were hardly any people.

Convent Garden is a surprising and amazing place in the city, offering a relaxed atmosphere, friendly service, and good vibes. It features a gorgeous garden terrace where visitors can enjoy drinks, live music, and delicious food. The space is well-organized and clean with various facilities such as lockers, nice rooms, and music in the bathroom. Additionally, there are kitchen amenities and a living room for guests to use.
The best specialty coffee! I'll definitely be back soon!!
Micaela M — Google review
A really cool space outside of the tourist/old part of the city. Food was quite good and fresh, wine prices reasonable. Staff was welcoming and warm. Would recommend.
Joshua V — Google review
It is an amazing place to be, very organized and clean. You have a locker for each person, nice rooms and music in the bathroom. There are a lot of facilities in the kitchen and the living room as well. The only problem is that there is no oven but it is because a government reglamentation.
German R — Google review
Nice location BUT horrible and overpriced food. One of the worst eating experiences in San Sebastian. Tuna salad was a joke. Small portion, and tomatoes that tasted like cardboard. Meat was dry and needed salt to get any taste. Another dish was Salmon with two green sparagus...TWO! The wine list is ridiculously small and they didn't have half of them available. We were a large group of 10 people and they sat us next to the only other large group in the restaurant. The tables were only 30cms away having a while restaurant to distribute us. Having a conversation was impossible. Bottom line, with plenty of amazing eateries in San Sebastian, you better skip this one.
Sergio P — Google review
Fun spot! Lovely patio to sit and drink. Looked like there was also a rooftop bar but we didn't check it out. Eclectic crowd. Was fun to sit and drink and people watch.

This is a review solely on the food. The place is cool. But the food just ruins it. Bland, boring, overpriced. Probably better idea to grab a beer and enjoy the terrace but definitely skip the food altogether.

THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE IN ALL OF SAN SEBASTIAN. Someone needs to teach their staff about even the basics of talking / dealing with people. I have a hospitality background and this place blew me away with the clear lack of understanding of customer service!

The ultra-modern apartments can accommodate up to six guests and a baby, featuring private terraces with views of the lush Basque countryside. The smart, minimalist decor in shades of blues, greys, and black creates a chic ambiance. Guests can enjoy communal areas including a canteen-style lounge with a large plasma TV and a serene Zen garden.
We stayed one night as a family in a two-bedroom apartment. We loved its cleanliness and practicality. There was free parking too, and the gentleman at the reception was so helpful and customer-focused. We also liked San Sebastian, but it was cloudy and rainy during our stay. I wish the weather had been better so we could have stayed longer!
EAgLeTheLasT — Google review
Stars giving as a courtesy to the staff because they are very responsive and kind. Attention needs to be paid to the cleanliness and equipment efficiency. WiFi does not work properly. Patio and room dirty. Smells like cigarettes and dirty mop. Window needs blinds that you cannot see through. Bathroom door is not private so you can see anyone using the bathroom. Spider webs everywhere. Overall we would have requested a refund at arrival if the front desk was manned late when we arrived.
DSBG L — Google review
Stayed here for 3 nights. It is not in San Sabestian town itself, but that's the whole idea. There are buses service to town every 30 mins except Sunday (1hr) if you do not want to drive to town and looking for parking especially on the weekends. We loved the location since it is near San Sabestian and also the surrounding areas if you are looking for a txotx experience near the cider producing area or txokoli tasting near to Getaria. Both are 15 minutes and 30 minutes away driving. Rooms are spacious, clean, and well equipped. Service is also good. Do note that this is not an hotel so no daily housekeeping and room service. Parking is available, although it can be limited. Great place to stay, especially w family.
Mike L — Google review
We had a very good stay. It was a nice location and comfortable apartments. One disadvantage is that we had a big veranda but there was no umbrella or other way to make shadow so we could not use it as it was a very sunny day. Even though the umbrella was in the pictures there was no umbrella
Rigas P — Google review
Very nice and well equipped apartment with spacious terrace. Service very good, almost comparable to a hotel. Many small great details, eg: Kitchen equipment, rags, garbage bags, soap, dishwasher tabs, etc. available. Own washing machine in the apartment, detergent in portions on demand from the reception. Fresh towels at any time on request. Wifi unfortunately poor in some room areas and on the terrace. Since dogs are allowed here, there were very many here, some barked a lot. During our stay it was very hot in Donostia. The air conditioners cannot compete with real cooling air conditioners and were much too weak and too small for the huge apartment. Well suited for travelers with car, locked parking in front of the house. Very close to a bus stop, from where you can quickly get to the center. Unfortunately, the buses run infrequently and at long intervals, in the late evening the buses of this line no longer run at all.
Tom — Google review
One of the beds in the second bedroom was pretty uncomfortable... missing a box spring? Was lower than the other single bed. View was the best feature of this apartment

Pensión Urkia is a simple and clean family pension hotel located near the beach, offering straightforward rooms with flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi. It features parking spaces and storage for belongings, making it convenient for travelers. The central location allows easy access to the city, restaurants, shops, and a nearby market. Guests appreciate the friendly staff and the cleanliness of the rooms and bathrooms.
Excellent value for money. We liked their passion for detail and specially their greetings. The beds are comfortable and the rooms very private. Windows are thick and we barely heard noise from the street. There is a great dine just next door and a market just across the street. Tea/coffee are free for guests and just outside every room. They also have a mini fridge. An old lady checked us in. She was very charming and helpful. I appreciate she took valuable time to explain the rules of the house, took us to our room personally and even recommended some places to wander around. Please give this woman a medal!
Pedro G — Google review
This was a great place to spend 3 nights. The room was quite large and had more than enough room for us to lay out our suitcases and also walk around. It was at the back of the property so was very quiet which was good because my elderly mother was with me. We had a twin room and it was reasonably priced for central Donostia. Our room had a fridge (good for storing the cheese cake), microwave and a kettle with coffee, tea & sugar. There was also a separate kitchen if we wanted to cook something. The service was excellent all the staff were very helpful and welcoming. Close to the beach and the old town and all the shopping! I would definitely stay here again.
Linda — Google review
Excellent location, easy walk to everything! Really good communication and check in! Comfortable bed with clean bedding, lift up to third floor. Our room No at the front was well insulated from traffic noise, however, whoever was upstairs where moving furniture very noisily until after midnight on wooden floors!! Good shower with plenty of hot water! Nice touch with a small fridge, microwave, kettle in the room. Only gripe was corners of the shower where dirty! Such an easy fix!!
Jacqui C — Google review
A very enjoyable stay and I would recommend. Location is perfect. A short stroll to the old town and just around the corner from the beach. There is kettle in the common area and I would have loved one in the room. Also, the fan was working well, air con would have been the cherry on the cake.

Perfect location! Ac was making weird noice, could not use it and that made the room super warm. Pet friendly, and once again perfect location. Easy to find parking next door!

Couple. Stayed 2 nights in July 2025. The only good thing about this Pensiòn is the location. The room we had was the smallest we've ever stayed in. Bathroom was so small you could only sit on the toilet at an angle. Air conditioned was very noisy making a loud motor noise every 5 minutes - had to sleep with ear plugs. Room was not cleaned or beds made during our stay.

Excelente Alojamiento! Me encantó! Muy limpio, moderno, sin ruidos! Cama super cómodo. Calidad precio muy bien. Volvería a alojarme ahi con mi gatete! Además hay una grata sorpresa al llegar :) Very cozy, clean and silent. I loved my stay there. I had a tough day and when i arrived to the hostel i only had positive vibes and comfort i needed to rest. My little cat also enjoyed the warm room. Excellent quality for the price and location. Keep it up, team!

PROS: The location of Pension Urkia is amazing and super central. The hotel's location made for an easy walk around the city, restaurants, and shops. The hotel is directly across a market which is great for when you need to run in for water, snacks, or to grab a quick bite. Overall, the staff of Urkia was real nice and the room/bathroom was very clean! CONS: I gave this a rating of 4 stars because, during our stay of 6 nights, the summer heat was uncomfortable. There's no A/C in the hotel rooms and I'm not sure if Urkia offers fans for their guests. It got muggy in the room which unfortunately made for damp bedsheets, towels, and clothes. When we slept at night, we tried to sleep with the balcony door open for some cool and fresh air but it was very difficult because of the constant street noise of trucks loading the market, cars/motorcycles, and construction noises in the morning. Our room was on the first floor facing the street so this could be different if we were on a different floor. Overall, we enjoyed our summer vacation here very much! Thanks Urkia!

We just had the most wonderful three night stay! The location is excellent! The service is excellent. The rooms are very comfortable and pet friendly. We stayed with our two small dogs. Very close to the beaches and there are plenty of options for great food and shops close to the hotel. We will be staying again the next time we are in San Sebastián.

Perfect place for a short stay in San Sebastian. Clean rooms, quiet enough given the bustling location, friendly staff and good communication. Central to the pintxo bars, sights, and shops and fun to stay in the square which was always alive.
Bailey S — Google review
Hey, it all depends on what you're looking for. If you need the 5 star Ritz Carlton, look elsewhere. For travelers like me who mostly need a clean dwelling, their own shower/ bathroom, comfortable bed, and just enough space, then this is perfect. Had a great room overlooking the town square. I assume if one of your neighbors is noisy that could be a problem, but that's anywhere. For the price, this is probably the best value in all of Spain. Highly recommend.
Christopher L — Google review
We have stayed here once and it was the perfect location, right in the center of the old town, lovely room and easy check in. We planned to stay again recently and had to cancel very last minute due to an unexpected hospital stay- Santiago was incredibly helpful and accomodating and went above and beyond to help us. I would recommend Central Roomss to everyone and plan to visit again soon!
Katie F — Google review
The room was super clean and spacious. The window opened onto one of San Sebastian's main squares which was fab to people watch. So the location was fabulous. However, the room was very noisy, we could hear the other rooms taking showers, doors opening and closing. Check in and check out was easy.
Lily G — Google review
We reserved a room that turned out it had no real window. I mean, it had one on an air shaft instead of the open air window one would expect. On top of that the room was extremely small and cramped so it felt really claustrophobic. The extra tiny space makes it also kind of noisy as you can hear pretty much everything from the other rooms and the reception/hallway which is literally just centimeters away from you. On the plus side when we complained about this the management agreed to refund us of the second night (which we cancelled) and give us a discount on the first night. Location is amazing with on plaza de la constitucion. I wouldn’t book here unless travelling solo, and I would make sure to reserve a room with a balcony (which has a real window).
Jacopo B — Google review
Room was small, but clean and comfortable. The smell of cleaning products was pretty strong when we first checked in, shortly after the room was cleaned. That got better after running the AC for a while. All in all, this was a good value. Would stay here again.
Al R — Google review
Central Roomss are located right in the center of San Sebastian. Hence, it`s sometimes quite noisy, depending on the day and time, but the windows are reasonably soundproof. The room was quite big, the bathroom was relatively new and clean, unfortunately they put a lot of chlorine into the water which gave it a terrible smell. The TV was very big, but the picture quality was quite bad. In addition, the internet quality wasn`t good either. Parking is possible in the Boulevard Telpark nearby (around 5 minutes walking, 51,70 Euro for 2 nights). Considering the price (110 Euro for 2 nights for 2 people), the price-performance ratio is all right and makes it a 4 star-accomodation.

Clean and comfortable room, nice staff, basically the city centre is close. But! I think it's overpriced, half renovated building, walls are tiny, you can hear your neighbor, on the original wood floor they have carpet, but still loud when you step on..

We had a great couple of days staying here in August 2016. Location was within easy walking distance to Zurriola Beach & had plenty of restaurant choices in Gros area as well as the main town centre. Customer service was the best we had over our 6 week trip throughout Europe. Sarah went over and above all expectations with her friendliness & willingness to share her local knowledge of places to see, visit & restaurants to try. She is an absolute asset to her employers. Would stay here again.

A little gem in the heart of the old part of the city. I enjoyed staying there, the attention to details is perfect. Yes, it can be noisy because you are the one of the busiest areas; I used earplugs. The recommendation for breakfast were also perfect as breakfast is not included. The bathroom is shared and all the other guests were extremely polite.

I'm so glad I chose to stay here. When I arrived, I was surprised how central this location was. It's located in the very vibrant part of town. Surrounded by great restaurants, a museum, and the beach is just a few blocks away. The trail to walk up to the statue on the hill is very close as well. It was very easy to incorporate the balance of nature and the city from this location. No car or taxi needed. The room I stayed in was very nice, private, clean, and surprisingly quiet. The sound from the weekend crowds having fun and laughing outside the building was mostly blocked. I easily had a good nights sleep. It was quiet in my room. The shared bathroom was nice. The whole place is an intimate yet private setting. I easily had access to the bathroom and it was very clean. It's the nicest shared bathroom I've seen on my travels so far. The best part of staying here was getting to know Rony & Nando, the hosts of the place. They are seasoned travelers themselves so they were able to help me fine tune my travel itinerary and make suggestions. They showed me around town and introduced me to multiple places known for their great food. Next time I'm in the area, I'll only book a place from them. There is no need to look anywhere else.

May stay was lovely! Everything felt very clean and comfortable. Fernando was incredibly responsive and went above and beyond for me during my stay. The day I arrived, there was unfortunately a bus workers strike so the buses from Bilbao to San Sebastián weren’t running. Fernando did his best to help me navigate to San Sebastián, sending me a link to the Euskotren to take instead and even calling the tourism office for help and information. The pension doesn’t have beach towels for guests but he very kindly lent me his own. He also gave me many helpful food recs. Not to mention the apartment has such a great location. It can get noisy especially at night so if you’re not a deep sleeper or have trouble falling asleep it may not be ideal for you to stay in this area. I’ll add that I have ok Spanish but I definitely still struggle sometimes—Fernando was very patient, friendly and understanding with my Spanish. He’s all around an extremely friendly host who is happy to have guests here to see this beautiful city and help them enjoy their stay as much as he can!
Mikala W — Google review
The location was unbeatable, right in the heart of all the bars and restaurants! The room slept three of us and I wasn't disturbed at all (not my usual experience in this type of apartment in Spain). The hosts were really flexible and waited for us at the time we asked - they also spoke perfect English, which isn't a problem for me but it helped others in our party. A real find!

(Translated by Google) I give it one star because I can't give it less. It is a house with four-five bedrooms and two bathrooms to share. The rooms are destroyed and you can hear all the noise from the street that doesn't let you sleep at night. They don't give you towels but when you see the shower you realize why. I've showered in millions of hostels and this is the first time I couldn't shower because the bathrooms were so dirty and run down. The only good thing is that the location is good although it does not have parking and you have to find your way. I wouldn't recommend it.

(Translated by Google) The state of the rooms and bathrooms is unfortunate. It probably can't be worse. A lot of dirt and a lot of noise from the street. There is no cleaning. Dirty sheets and towels. I share Laura's opinion, I give it one star because I can't give less. Be careful with the tourist apartment theme, there is no identification.

(Translated by Google) Although the house is old, the apartment is renovated, with a simple and pleasant maritime decoration. It is very clean and the girl who runs it is friendly and pleasant to deal with. The location is unbeatable, one minute from Zurriola beach, going down some stairs that connect the street with the promenade. Close to several bars to have some beers, snacks or sandwiches. There are also supermarkets one street down. The center or old part 15 minutes away. Very happy indeed!

(Translated by Google) Perfectly located, everything is within walking distance. The apartment is very well equipped, everything is available on site. Including little extras that we really appreciate (fresh water, shower gel, dish soap, etc.). It's also nicely decorated. The sofa bed is comfortable and the double bed is very soft. It's neither too hot nor too cold (August). The host is very friendly and there's a key box (independent access and departure). The building is very well maintained. It's a third floor without an elevator. The only thing bothering was the sewer smell in the bathroom (a smell found in the neighborhood, not specific to the apartment).
