I wasn’t sure what to expect when I visited the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, but I was pleasantly surprised. It’s not your typical tourist spot it’s quiet, no photography allowed, and very respectful. I learned a lot about Sri Aurobindo and The Mother. The bookshop nearby has some great spiritual and philosophical reads. Definitely worth stopping by if you’re curious about Indian spirituality or just want a break from the beach crowd.

Visited on 28th October 2025 From the moment I reached at the premises, I felt a gentle calm settling over me. Even the smallest sounds seemed softer, like the place itself was asking for attention and respect. As I walked toward the Mother’s Samadhi, I found myself naturally slowing down, noticing the care in every corner and the quiet dignity of the surroundings. It didn’t feel like a place to just see; it felt like a place to experience The staff greeted visitors with quiet courtesy, gently guiding us about shoes, mobile phones, and maintaining silence. It felt respectful rather than formal, like they were helping everyone feel part of the same shared reverence. Sitting by the Samadhi, I felt a profound stillness and inner quiet that is hard to describe. There was a deep sense of gratitude, reflection, and peace, as if the presence of the Mother and Shri Aurobindo was in the air around me. Every detail around me, the flowers, the pathways, the simple yet immaculate surroundings, spoke of devotion and love. Leaving the ashram, I felt a subtle shift within me, a quiet reminder to live with mindfulness, humility, and calm. Visiting the Mother’s Samadhi is not just a visit; it is a transformative experience. Anyone seeking peace, reflection, or a connection to something timeless must make this visit.

Good to visit to see the Samadhi and come out in a few minutes. As seen in other reviews, the staff is very rude. There is a bookstore towards the exit. I switched on my phone to pay for the books, and picked a call which was urgent of my family, the staff gave me a lecture that had the management seen they would have taken my phone for 2 hours. What kind of kiddish behaviour is this? How do we pay for the books if not cash.

You have to leave your shoes across the street before entering and walk barefoot inside. The ashram is filled with beautiful flowers and a sense of calm. It’s a strictly quiet space — no talking, and phones must be turned off (there are volunteers who ensure this). There is no entry fee. The path inside is short — it takes about five minutes to walk around — but there’s a small meditation area where you can sit peacefully if you wish. The highlight for us was the library. It has a wonderful collection of books (available in many languages), including thin volumes written by The Mother from her 21-part series on yoga and life (inexpensive- INR 30 a book). They also sell lovely postcards and books made by people at the ashram — perfect as souvenirs. Overall, a serene experience — simple, quiet, and meaningful, especially if you appreciate spirituality or literature.

Very calm and serene place. The place closes by 6 but the samadhi is open for public till much later. Phones to be turned off while entering. Babies not allowed.

Well maintained silence in this place, something we don’t get to experience much in this busy city. The bookstore was closed which was a bummer. Hope to visit the bookstore next time. The shoes have to be left on the opposite side of the road, no babies are allowed as silence has to be followed.

Don't miss this place if you are a first time visitor to Pondicherry (Puducherry). I first came here in 1985 on our excursion trip during my last year in school at Chennai and have been here several times afterwards and having lived in Pondicherry for about 1.5 years I visited the Ashram whenever I felt like it and the feeling of peace and tranquility remains the same. The very fact that Aurobindo and later, The Mother, Aurobindo's most trusted and closest disciple made Pondy their home clearly indicates the sacredness of Pondicherry. Aurobindo and The Mother's Samadhi (final resting place) is within the compounds. Both of them resided here (The Mother lived for a longer time than Aurobindo) and contributed much to the spiritual needs of the locals and visitors via books and discourses and holy Darshan. There are holy days observed here of which November 24'th is one where the rooms of The Mother or Aurobindo (whichever appropriate to the holy day) are thrown open to the public. It is good to be here early as there are very long queues on these days. Luckily for November the weather is perfect as it is the much cooler part of the year. The Ashram itself is not very huge though a lot of the adjoining land and buildings belong to the The Ashram. The area and roads around the Ashram are a delight to walk through, with the beach not very far. Small children aren't allowed and the inside of the Ashram is maintained very neatly. You can pray at the Samadhi and then sit in silent meditation or prayer around the Samadhi, as is custom to visitors to the place. The peace is something very beautiful here. After this you can visit the bookstore and gift sections of the building where you can buy a number of books written by Aurobindo and The Mother in a variety of Indian and Foreign languages. However the real deal is the bookstore called Sabda, the principal printing press of The Ashram, located on the same street at a walkable distance from the Ashram. Bang opposite Sabda is located the shop from where you can buy a number of Auroville and The Ashram's products and produce such as Incense sticks, fragrant oils etc., The Manakula Vinayakar Temple with its elephant (brought at 4:00 PM) is popular with foreign tourists and is located very close to the Ashram. You could pay the temple a visit too. It rated Pondy's No.1 attraction.

A peaceful place. The walking paths are well made and travelers of all nationalities are always smiling. It’s larger than expected. A slow walk along the beach takes about an hour and a half round trip. In the evening, it gets so crowded with street vendors and locals that it feels like the whole Pondi people has come out. It’s also incredibly beautiful at sunset, so I highly recommend visiting if you have the time

TN and Pondy people, please stop unnecessary honking and follow basic traffic manners, 📣📣🤯🤯🥵🥵 Poorly Maintained & Unhygienic Beach This beach was very disappointing during our visit. It was full of waste and felt extremely dirty. Maybe it was because of Ganesh Chaturthi, but apart from that, there were also dead fish, prawn shells, plastics, and other garbage scattered around. The stinky smell from dead fish and the many fishing boats parked nearby made the experience unpleasant. Parking is available, but overall the beach is poorly maintained and unhygienic. Not recommended unless it is cleaned up properly.

Serenity Beach ⛱️ is a beach where you can get the feel of some foreign beach, because of its popularity amongst foreigners, who come here to participate in surfing 🌊, rowing and other water-sports. Here you will find many surfing training institutes, offering various short and long-term courses. Speaking about this beach, I found it to be very clean, rocky and wide. There are two rocky piers on both sides of this beach, where you can walk and reach the last point. Sitting on the last point of the pier and observing the strong waves crashing down on the rocks, paired with strong winds, will transport you to a different world altogether. Here, you can become one with the ocean, one with your soul. Must visit, while touring Pondicherry.⛱️🌊

Don’t go by its name, it is not serene. It is a local beach where the sunrise is beautiful and quiet.

Visited here with family while the Farm Fest 2025 and some botanical expo was happening. It was great experience during these weeks because a lot of visitors, school tour, exhibitions, pop-up shop sales happening. I'm not sure if this same environment exist on usual days. Good place if you are looking to just spend some time walking around, enjoying park and taking photos. But unless you are visiting during similar special days, there won't be much happening. Easy to reach from Railway station, Beach, Bus Stand etc. Specific cons : Even though we visited on an active day like the public restrooms were not functional even though it is new. Some where closed down. Some had no water. There is a lack of Park Layout Signs and Maps making navigation hard. Would have loved to see "You Are Here" layout maps here and there to make overall navigation. I have only visited this place one time.

I am writing this review to bring attention to an issue I observed during my recent visit. While exploring the aquarium section, I noticed that the scientific names of the fish species were incorrectly labeled as botanical names. (Scientific name is the umbrella term; zoological and botanical names are its branches for animals and plants respectively.) This misrepresentation not only causes confusion for visitors but also undermines the educational value of this place. I respectfully urge the concerned authorities to review and correct it.

The small aquarium inside is quite simple but a nice add-on, especially if you are visiting with kids. The toy train and musical fountain were not fully functional when I visited, but they are attractions that would definitely make the garden even more lively. What makes this place special is that it is not just for tourists but also a spot where locals come for morning walks, photography, or simply to enjoy some quiet time. Entry fees are very nominal, and the garden is spacious enough to spend a couple of hours without feeling rushed.

The Botanical Garden in Puducherry is such a nice spot to hang out! 🌿 It has been recently renovated, though some works are still in progress. With proper maintenance and upkeep, the place has the potential to become even more attractive and enjoyable for visitors. The ticket counter closes by 5:30 PM, but you can still hangout inside till around 6:45 PM. Best time to go is during sunset; the pathways light up with cute little lanterns on both sides, and the whole place feels so peaceful with the sound of birds. 🕊️ It’s even more fun once the toy train starts running! 🚂✨

Its a very old place or you can say its a ruin but fairly photogenic if want to have skme old movie kind of vibes. If you want to go here you need to book a ferry. After 10 minutes of boat ride you will reach the place. They say scenes of a south indian movie were shot in this place so recommended but for a short visit. Not a place to spend a whole day here . Food- nariyal pani and other ready to eat snacks were available Boat wale bhaiya told us that he will wait for 15-20 minutes only which means we got this much time only to spend here.

Arikmadu trust is historical site , it is a peaceful and historically rich archaeological site located a few kilometres from the main town of Pondicherry. I visited recently and found it to be an interesting glimpse into India’s ancient connection with the Roman world. The site, now maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India, is quiet and surrounded by greenery, making it feel like a hidden piece of history away from the city crowds. There isn’t much left standing except some brick structures and old foundations, but the information board explains its importance as an ancient Indo-Roman trade port known as Poduke. Reading about the excavations and discoveries—like Roman pottery, beads, and coins—makes the place come alive. It’s fascinating to imagine ships once docking here, carrying goods and ideas between continents. Although the site is small and not very commercialized, it holds great archaeological value. Visiting Arikamedu feels less like a tourist stop and more like stepping quietly into history. Anyone interested in ancient trade, archaeology, or heritage will appreciate it. A short visit of 30–45 minutes is enough, and it pairs well with exploring the nearby Ariyankuppam area or Auroville later in the day.

There is nothing here.. i mean absolutely nothing just a few broken walls n pillers that tell no story . They have just mentioned this place as a tourist place so the boat guys and goli soda sellers can make some money .

The place, despite its historical significance, is unfortunately surrounded by waste and garbage scattered all around. It was disheartening to see such poor maintenance at a site that holds cultural and historical value. A heritage location like this deserves to be preserved with care and cleanliness, not only to respect its legacy but also to provide visitors with a more pleasant experience.

Visited Arikemedu through boating from Marina pondy,stunning mangrove forest and short walk to Arikamedu .It is old structure where movie shootings takes place and it is peaceful place.Stayed their for 15 minutes and came back.

Firstly, for going this, you need to take a package from the boating people, they charge 400 each and covers four places, including this Arikamedu. This is very ancient place but there are few people who are living there, not at all bothered about the heritage. They just roam in it

Manakula Vinayaka Temple is one of the most beautiful and peaceful places I visited in Pondicherry. The temple has a very positive vibe and you can really feel the divine energy as soon as you enter. The architecture is amazing with colorful carvings and detailed artwork on the walls and ceiling. It’s clean and well-maintained, and the priests are polite and helpful. The place gets a bit crowded, especially during morning and evening aarti, but the overall atmosphere is calm and spiritual. I really enjoyed spending some quiet time here. A divine place !! Must visit spot if you are visiting Pondy !! However, people around there are causing nuisance and disturbance for every tourist!! Place is surrounded by transgender people and child beggars who will surround you until u give money to them. This is actually a concern considering the amount of people visiting every day, it's not in only one street, every street around white town is the same issue , so many people roaming around and causing the issue!! Government has to take some measurements to fix this.

This is declared as french preserved monument. Any can go inside and experience the beauty and divine grace. This is adjacent to beach.

It's old and well maintained. There are well lit status both outside and inside. Best time to visit will be during evening when they turn on all the decoration lights.

Rock Beach is a very nice place to visit in Pondicherry. The view of the sea is beautiful, and the sound of the waves is very calming. It’s a great spot for morning or evening walks. The area is clean and has many small food stalls and cafes nearby. You can’t swim here because of the rocks, but you can sit, relax, and enjoy the sea breeze. It gets a bit crowded, especially on weekends, but still feels peaceful. A lovely place to spend some quiet time. I gave 4 stars because of the crowd.

Nothing negative about this place except the accessibility. Many a times Cars are not allowed to nearby area so may be an issue for elderly people. Very nice place where one can spend hours gazing at sea (Bay of Bengal). it is a must visit place whenever you visit Puducherry. Have been here 4-5 times. Walk along the beach is romantic for couples. There are many small small cafés which serve you till late night. Sunrise at 6 o clock attracts a lot of people. Gandhi statue in the middle of 800m beach walk path is also attractive.

Rock Beach is one of the most beautiful spots in Pondicherry! 🌅 The view of the sunrise and sunset here is absolutely stunning. Walking along the rocks with the sound of waves hitting the shore is such a peaceful experience. The place is clean, lively, and perfect for photos or just relaxing by the sea. Beautiful beaches with a great vibe and relaxing atmosphere. The best time to visit is during sunrise or in the evening when it’s pleasant and breezy. Afternoons can get quite hot and humid, so plan accordingly. Perfect place to unwind, enjoy the sea, and take in the coastal charm.

Complete 1.5km long rock beach covers the esplanade area except a stretch of about 100 meters of proper sand beach with great views on both sides. Good place to sit and relax, minus the shacks and drinks. And please don't smoke here, it's prohibited to smoke in public areas in whole of pondicherry. At dawn or dusk the beach provides good views and winds.

One of my favourite!! This beach is an amazing place if you want to sit next to the beach and enjoy the view. You have an amazing walking trail and restaurant for quick bite. You can not play in the water though but allowed for short time if guard permits.

The place has potential, but it needs better upkeep. While their collection is quite unique, most items seem to be displayed just for the sake of it, without any proper information or context. Some exhibits aren’t even clearly visible. It would be great if they handled things more professionally, especially considering some of the pieces are genuinely rare. Even a brief description for each item would add a lot of value. On the plus side, the entry fee is just ₹10. But note that photography and videography are not allowed inside the museum.

I especially loved the idols and sculptures from the Chola era, along with the French historical displays. There’s also an art gallery, which is worth a visit. The ambience inside is very good and peaceful. Entry is ₹10 for Indians and ₹50 for foreigners, and UPI payments are accepted. Parking, however, is quite difficult to find nearby. Overall, a good spot to explore history and art in Pondy.

A small, well maintained lovely Museum, must visit for those Visiting this lovely City. The cost of the ticket is only Rs.10 per head. Videography and Photography are totally prohibited inside the Museum and Art Gallery but allowed outside the Museum where you could find plenty of stone sculptures. I request the authorities to provide Power Back Up Facility for Museum as it poses great difficulties for the visitors and also a security threat. All the displayed artefacts are well organised. The Government should consider providing Air Conditioners for the Museum and increase the ticket fare accordingly.

I recently visited the Puducherry Museum and found it truly beautiful and enriching. Though photography and videography were not allowed, The museum's exhibits were captivating. The ancient coins, statues, and detailed historical information provided deep insights into our heritage. It's a well-maintained space that takes you back in time. I highly recommend it, especially for children to learn about India's rich culture and history. It's a must-visit spot in Puducherry. The peaceful ambience and neat display made the experience even more special. Each section of the museum tells a unique story, making it a treasure trove for history lovers.

You can find statues of all the 108 divya desams around the Prakara (not just photos)along with tbe traditional name of that divya desai. Very nice temple.

Holy enough for a visit, (visited several times during my stay in Pondy during 2012-2014) Much bigger than the No.1 rated temple and attraction of Pondicherry, the Manakula Vinayakar Temple and certainly with a better Holy feel too. The temple has a pond too at the rear but it closed and off limits to devotees. The gopuram at the entrance is impressive and so are the sculpture work in and around the temple though they are in need of preservation. As you do the pradakshina (circumnambulation) of the main deity there is a good amount of sculpture to be seen though they have been painted a bit gaudy. A good portion of the temple seem to be unused and looks like there had been deities and worship in those parts. And near these places there are older constructions where a lot of doves are dirtying the place with their droppings. These areas need cleaning badly. There is a nice black stone floor to sit to spend some time in prayer or contemplation inside the temple's premises. Tulsi garlands can be purchased at the entrance and as you enter the temple there is a nice contraption where water continuously flows via a perforated pipe enabling to wash your legs, though on the way out they get your feet wet again to attract the dust and dirt on from the road. The temple is located on M G Road, very close to the main four road junction of Pondicherry (near the Ananda Inn, Surguru Hotel and Hotel Aarti). Worth a visit if you have the time.

Absolutely serene and peaceful place. A house of dravidian art and story telling. The walls of the temple are etched with paintings andre beautiful carving of all the forms of Lord Vishnu. No photography allowed inside the temple complex. You have to visit to experience this.

The place is surrounded by lush green trees and situated inside the Bharathi Park were the people can walk on the pathways around the area. Its just opposite to Lietuant Governors office cum residence.

The mandapam was built to commemorate the deserving historical personality Aayi. A stone plaque written in traditional Tamil and Latin pays tribute to Aayi's deed. Open to the public

Aayi Mandapam is within the Bharati Park and it is most spectacularto see in the evening. The story of this mandapam is engraved there and you can see a miniature of this mandapam is the museum with the story about it.

Nice ambiance and close to the beach. Felt little expensive. The chicken salad was not good. Chicken fry and chicken pepper was good even though chicken pepper felt like chicken popcorn.

Tried their beef steak, which wasn't chewy at all. We arrived after 10 pm, almost closing time 11 PM, and felt rushed. The ambience is excellent for a decent dine-in, but the prices are high, which is expected in such a posh location. It's acceptable to charge more, but we hope the food quality improves.

Disappointing Experience at La Tendance Visited La Tendance recently and unfortunately had quite a disappointing experience. We entered around 10:30 PM, and although the restaurant was still open, the service made us feel extremely unwelcome. I ordered a steak, which was oddly served with just some grated cabbage — no mashed potatoes or sautéed veggies, which are usually standard accompaniments. It felt incomplete and lacked both taste and presentation. Worse was the attitude of the waiter. From the moment we sat down, he seemed in a hurry to wrap things up. By 11 PM, he had already placed the bill on our table and brought over the card machine — all without us asking. It was clear he wanted us to leave as soon as possible, which made the whole dining experience very uncomfortable. If the kitchen was about to close, they should have informed us before seating or taking our order. Not the kind of service or quality I expected, and definitely not a place I’d recommend for a late dinner.

The seafood barbeque was subpar and over priced. All I could taste was mustard sauce and it cost around Rs.900 for very less quantity. I'm normally easily impressed by different food flavours but this wasn't it. I've given a 1 star review twice in my life and this is the third time. Please taste test your menu again and work on it. The waiter was polite and the ambience was cozy. Food tasted on August 16th

Had been to this place few years back when it was located in its old location and liked the relaxed atmosphere. So had the same expectations. This place is too crammed. So I have given it a lesser rating for the ambiance and setup which they say is temporary. Food was good in general. Except for Veg lasagna and Crème brûlée for dessert which was very much average. Good service.

By far the worst cooked pork chops ever. Hard as rubber that the steak knife had a problem cutting into the meat. It was so "well cooked" that the chop bone was as crispy as a potato wafer. The pasta was on a WHOLE different level - if they over did the pork, they seem to have "balanced" it out with the penne pasta in white sause (wash is more appropriate) cos it lacked ANY SORT OF FLAVOUR OR BASIC SEASONING. EVEN THE OLIVE WAS TASTELESS! Paid close to 2500 for incipid food.

Really peaceful and beautiful church. The colors on the outside are warm and inviting, and the twin towers make it stand out. Inside, it's calm and quiet with lovely blue ceilings, hanging lights, and colorful stained glass windows. It’s a great place to sit, reflect or just enjoy the vibe. Even if you’re not religious, it’s worth a visit. You’ll feel a sense of calm just being there.

This area is used mostly by the fishing boats. People defecate here in the open. Go to pier nearby where it is more clean and picturesque.

Serene and quiet beach, not more than 10-15 locals on beach, 0 tourists, clean blue and green water however sand on the beach has lot of litter ... Streches far... VEERAMPATTINAM BEACH : Veerampattinam is the biggest coastal village in the Union Territory of Puducherry and is located between Pondicherry and Cuddalore. The village is 7kms from the city centre and frequent bus services are available from Pondicherry. The village has over 500 years of recorded history and is very close to Arikamedu archaeological site. It has rivers on both sides which helps fishermen protect their boats during cyclones as the majority of the swell in the sea is absorbed by the rivers. The surrounding village looks green always as it's enriched with water and nutrient resources. Veerampattinam is also home to one of the biggest festivals - The Temple car festival, where hoards of devotees pull massive wooden chariots using thick natural rope. A sight to behold indeed! The village has one of the longest beach and most beautiful beaches in the south of India. This attracts tourists from all over the world. A large number of people sun bathe and relax on the beach almost round the year. One can also watch the fishermen ply their trade and working with traditional fishing nets at dedicated sites. It's a beautiful beach with a lot of free space to walk around and enjoy the waves without the crowd. It's got a lot of coconut trees on the way to the beach... A pier called 'The Sea Farer' is yet to be constructed fully... It looks good..

This beach is mostly occupied by fishermen's. Less crowded as compared to others and water is also clean comparatively. No shacks and shades available at the beach. Changing room and shower facilities are also not available.

Located away from the main road ..Google maps give proper directions to reach there via the small internal Roads. it's good experience to see the local village life, it's a fishing harbour kinda beach so lots of boats and fishermen around, cuz of this there is lot of fish and other sea life thrown on the beach so it's a shabby not many tourist around, good for a long walk along the shore.

Such a wonderful space in the heart of Pondicherry, with many many activities that enthrall! This is the second time I visited it, and I took their Wake Up Pondy Bicycle Tour. Over 2 hours, our storyteller Dhinesh, took us through a beautiful route, telling us about how the town came to be what it is today. Although I have visited the town many times, I have discovered many new things about it, such as an Indo-Vietnamese connection and Chettinad architecture. The centre also conducts brilliant cooking classes, and my favourite - Kolam making class! It is quite an under-rated spot for domestic Indian tourists, but I guarantee you will enjoy it!

Comprehensive cycle tour through the streets of Pondicherry. Guide was knowledgable and showed around places without rushing. The cycles are older local cycles, so they don't speed and felt safe. We had a good feel of cycling through indian streets. Saranya was very knowledgeable and accomodating to the cooking class, as we travelled with an infant. Everyone was very friendly and had toys and a mat for baby to crawl around. The cooking class was a lot of fun and thorough- with lot of options accommodating to individual dietary needs (we had a variety in our travelling group). It took a little bit longer than the stated duration, but again didn't feel rushed. We finished by enjoying the meal we had made all together which was great. Brilliant experience which I would recommend to anyone!

Totally excellent cookery class with Saranya at the Sita Cultural Centre, facilitated by the very efficient and charming Dhivia. First stop was the Goubert Market to shop for our ingredients, where Saranya not only guided us around but also showed us no end of interesting components and aspects of South Indian cuisine. After some delicious masala chai back at the centre , we got to it, prepping our vegetables and learning about spice combining and balancing. And then cooking time , this time with a bonus seminar about different types of pan and oil. And then we sat down to eat our (well, mostly Saranya’s!) handiwork- and very delicious it was too!! Strongly recommend this- a truly excellent half day!!

I had a wonderful experience on the cycle tour in Puducherry! Dinesh was an excellent guide — knowledgeable, engaging, and friendly. He took me through places of historic and cultural importance, sharing rich background stories that really brought the city to life. His depth of knowledge was truly impressive and made the ride both enjoyable and insightful. Would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Puducherry!

Excellent experience- our instructor, Saranya, made us feel right at home! As a foreigner, walking through the market with a guide is a must. We felt like we had a locals grasp on how the market operates, and it was a wonder to see all of the delicious looking fish, coconuts, bananas (of which we learned there are 40+ varieties!). Cool to see all of the colors of Kolam powder for sale, too. Much more interpersonal shopping experience than our overwhelming and too-bright version of super market shopping in USA. And what a great way to see it in action! With Saranya’s guidance, we used the groceries she bought to make a delicious curry, coconut rice and kesari and it ate it all together in their cozy courtyard. We definitely learned kitchen skills that we will bring home with us!

ny friend and i took the 7am cycling tour and it was the perfect way fo learn about pondicherry! our tour guide, shiva was very knowledgeable and also shared a lot of tips and advise on other areas to explore. the cycles were in good condition and the pace of the tour was very manageable. mr verma, who helped us sign in and showed us around the cultural centre, was very helpful as well!

We arranged the group trip to explore the Indian culture then we go to the sita cultural centre.we had indian cooking class💥she made the class very cool.her name is krithika .she take care of our group and they go to the market.purchased groceries for the cooking class.the cooking class was by 10/9.tyen we tried poetry class it we'll go very well and the kolam class was very good for us lot of fun and memories..thanks for this happiness...

Great place for hand embroidery- originally started as a place for destitute women, now it employs marginalised women training them in a niche skill; because of the painstaking hard manual labour the pieces are expensive- worth the money, and the nun in charge Sr Augusta is so very kind to the women workers and attentive to the visitors. Beautiful place- French architecture- donated by a benevolent French family- must visit!!

Lovely elegant embroidery work done by a group of ladies. (They sell coasters, towels, handkerchiefs, kitchen napkins etc) Met a friendly nun there who took me around and explained the embroidery process. The ladies out there work really hard! There is a huge hall where women sit and embroider.It is set in a heritage home that dates back to the 18th century at The Romain Rolland Street of Pondicherry.There is no entry fees and it open from Tuesday to Saturday from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm. Lovely convent embroideries in satin stitch, french knots to name a few on table cloths,runners, napkins,mats,towels and more.They are quite expensive but then it's convent hand embroidery.

It’s an easy stop from White Town/railway side, and staff/volunteers keep things orderly during Mass. Must visit What could be better: Parking on the boulevard is limited and weekends can get crowded. Photography is usually restricted inside—especially during services—so plan your shots outside. Verdict: Come for quiet prayer and architecture; linger a few minutes just to soak in the stained glass and silence.

The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Puducherry is a magnificent Neo-Gothic architectural landmark, built between 1902 and 1907 by French missionaries. It is renowned for its Latin cross plan, 24 massive columns, and vibrant stained glass panels depicting the life of Christ and various saints. When we visited it was closed, but guard allowed us till the door for few minutes, Felt happy.

Visited Serenity Beach in the evening — the breeze and view were lovely, and it’s a nice place to sit on the rocks, relax, and watch the sea. However, it was quite crowded and not very clean. The beach has more of a local, fisherman vibe with lots of boats and activity. There’s a small area where you can play in the water, but overall it’s better for a quick visit than a long beach day.

Serenity Beach is the best place if you want to explore fishing. It’s more of a private beach, quiet and peaceful, without shops or commercial activity. Perfect spot for those looking for a calm fishing experience away from the crowds.

Major market and commercial hub in pondicherry. Market is quite big and can buy A-Z items here. Near to market, branded showrooms, shops, restaurants are available. It's bit organized and great to see many branded showrooms and small shops. Good to purchase all items under one roof. Clean and well maintained. Only drawback transport and the way people drive their vehicles in road.

Goubert market is one of my fav spot in Pondicherry. Especially the flower market i love the fragrance which makes me feel positive and peaceful. This wonderful sprawling market is well worth walking around. One can find fish, vegetable, fruit,grocery stalls etc, including beautiful flower stalls .Such a vibrant market takes a good hour or so to wander round. The stall holders are friendly and happy to be photographed.

A bazar in Pondicherry where you can buy all the daily needs from salt to meat. The market is divided into different sections for different goods and stuffs. The place is very aesthetic. The best time to visit is early in the morning for buying flowers and for other stuffs anytime is good. You can get fresh vegetables from here. Market is very easy accessible since we can enter from 3 sides of the market and have a wide space for parking. It is a must visit place for street photographers who are visiting Pondicherry.

We tried the Arabian Nights and Chicken 65 pizzas, but unfortunately, both were overly cheesy and lacked flavor. We had high expectations since the place was listed as one of the top-rated restaurants in Pondicherry, but it didn’t live up to the hype. We also ordered the Peri Peri chicken wings — while the sauce was quite good, the chicken itself tasted like it had been frozen. Overall, the experience was underwhelming and we left disappointed.

Loved the pizza — definitely coming back, especially for the price! We had to wait around 10–15 minutes, but it was worth it. The crust was amazing, and the cheese was just the right amount — not overloaded, which was perfect.

Food was great indeed. Very happy with the Pizza that we got. But they said a Can of Pepsi is 95 rupees. While the rate in their menu is 80, and MRP is 70. So, it felt a bit like cheating. So, we requested and they were resistant accept their mistake but later they reduced the amount. But would be happy if they updated their menu so that it won't mislead. It is not the matter of money, but rather honesty. Thank you Xtasi

Wait Time: I went there on Diwali, there was a wait time. Food: The pizza was thin and delicious. The menu description of items is not completely accurate. Ambience: The place makes you feel couped up as there are not any windows and its a small place. Parking: We only have street parking, so difficult to find good parking and on the lane adjacent to the place there is an open drain so be mindful with parking.

I ordered prawns, mashed potatoes, French fries, and fried rice—everything was flavorful and well-prepared. I also had some shots, which added to the fun, easygoing vibe. If you’re looking for a place with good food, drinks, and a chill atmosphere, Rendezvous Café is definitely worth checking out.

Great Ambience in a beautiful building with a top notch view of the beach was the best lunch I’ve ever had in Pondicherry. The staff was very sweet and he conversed with such passion about his work. The food here was amazing and the Chicken Ala Carte was my favourite !! ( recommended!!)

A classic rooftop restaurant, pasta spaghetti were nice . Of course prices were of Bangalore levels. But for a tourist place probably justified .. dishes one have to serve themselves.. beware lift wasn't functional.

Small cute cafe in the middle of Suffren street white town. We wanted some good English breakfast on Sunday morning and we reached here. The menu was looking attractive , we had one english breakfast and one american breakfast. My English breakfast had a half baked potato and bacon strips were bad. The hash brown 🤧 my god again half cooked and idk what it was made of actually we were wondering if it was cabbage or potato for a second. Taste was okayish not too bad i would say. We had also asked for a Mushroom sandwich which was good 💯 The Ambience was good overall but I am not really sure if i would recommend this place for a good English breakfast sorry 😅

Serene park with lots of squirrels roaming around. Very calm and full of greenery. I loved the vibe there where you can either sit or walk around. Good place for playing with children and taking rest during afternoon hot sun. Eatables not allowed inside. At evening you will find beautiful lighting and fountain. Romantic activities are strictly prohibited. Public decency is well maintained by guards to ensure tourism standards.

It’s nice because it’s open space which is so rare here except for the waterfront. It was clearly once a beautiful park but it’s seen better days. It needs a major renovation. Still, it’s nice to walk around and the kids clearly love the playground area

This old light house served as a navigation to the Ships approaching the land of Pondicherry. The Light house was constructed in 1835, the region around mât de pavillon. Around the lighthouse. It was erected by L. Guerre, the French engineer. The light house measures 29 meters tall is a fluted surfaced tower, built on a rectangular building base. The light house has three entrances, which serves the exits also. The light from the tower reaches out to over 29 kilometres in radius. The tower was renovated many times and is at present slightly different from whence it was built. In 1931 a rotating light which is of 1000 watt replaced the fixed light in the tower. Later in 1970 another new lighthouse was built Keerapalayam village and this lighthouse was abandoned. From then it came to be known as Old Lighthouse and has become a monument. This monument serves as a museum and is located in front of Gandhi Statue.

Visited Cafe Des Arts during Christmas holidays, after listening to a huge hype for this place from my friends. The ambience was great. However, after waiting in a long queue, the food & its taste made it a slightly disappointing experience. However, the place has a good vibe. If you haven't visited this place, you could visit for once to experience an authentic french cafe.

The flavors were well-balanced, making it a satisfying beverage choice. However, one downside of Cafe des Arts was its limited menu, especially when it came to vegetarian options. The countable vegetarian choices might disappoint those looking for more variety. It would be great if the cafe could expand its menu to cater to a wider range of dietary preferences. Another area of improvement is the service, which was disappointingly slow. The wait times for orders and receiving attention from the staff were longer than expected. This sluggish service detracted from the overall dining experience. Although the food did not completely live up to the hype, the ambience at Cafe des Arts was undeniably captivating. It's a heritage French house tastefully converted/restored into a café. The food is decent not really exceptional as such. Visit for the ambiance, the store, to take photos, meet friends, and enjoy the space.

Cafe is famous for its breakfast and brunch. If you wanna click some nice pictures, this is the place for you. Nice ambiance,friendly staff. Fresh bakery goods and fresh food made all the time. You can even buy organic vegan products from there. They amazing indoor and outdoor seating and bookshelf loaded with books to enjoy reading while have some nice brunch or snacks.

Not worth the wait of 60 Minutes, and yes I'm saying this being a foodie myself. Will not recommend this place for food. Food is overpriced, limited and do not preserve the authenticity of the food itself taste wise. Will say, take photographs outside and leave, that's more worthy. No photography allowed inside the restaurant which is unjustified to be honest. EDIT: Updating to 1 star ⭐. The foreigner lady aka the owner of this place is really rude, she insulted my friend for leaving a bad review and also commented on our upbringing, which is anti-Indian in nature. Would never come to this place again.

What a gem café in the middle of Pondi. We absolutely loved everything about this beautiful place. Vintage chic indian deco with some little gem French & Indian sculptures. The atmosphere is cool & soft, large spaces where you feel at home with enough space for your group of friends ( I saw large tables up to 14 guests outside) and small area for 2 to 6 people. The food is excellent, quality is top class, the fruit bowl was generous, fresh, the salad with grapefruit was refreshing and delicious. My children loved the croque monsieur and the crepes. We felt so grateful to have such a place in India. Best breakfast, best lunch, best brunch and best afternoon tea. The Masala chai tea was again generous with a pot for 2. Bravo to all the multilingual team working hard in the background.

An okay experience at Cafe des arts. The food was decent, but nothing extraordinary. Service was fine, although it could be more attentive. All the staffs were showing over attitude towards their customers. Overall, a decent option if you're in the area, but there are better choices available.

Coromandel Café, White Town — every corner here is pure aesthetic and perfect for photos! The café has multiple sections — a lovely outdoor area with plants, cozy indoor seating with a restaurant vibe, and an upstairs space with a vintage café feel. Each corner has its own unique charm. We had a great experience here! The food was amazing — we tried the Mediterranean Pizza (so good, especially with the Greek dip!) and the Mason & Co Chunky Blondie. The blondie was nice, though I wish it was a bit softer. The pizza, however, was absolutely perfect. The service was good, and overall, I was really impressed by the café’s aesthetic and warm vibe.

Incredibly difficult to find a spot. Would recommend making a reservation, otherwise, be prepared to wait for a table. Old-world, mansion-style lighting and decor greet you inside. We ordered the pork chops, grilled fish, and a grilled pineapple and chicken salad. Variety of dishes is somewhat limited, but the food is good and service is very prompt.

Their ambience won my heart! Finally visited this place on my 4th visit to Pondy as it is always busy or reservation is closed. So went in super early for dinner this time and was happy with everything. Food was great, reasonably priced. Ambience stole my heart. Service was always with smiles. Went alone that time but it is one of the best places for a date night. They are open only for limited timing and reservation is usually not available, so plan ahead.

The much-talked-about café in Pondicherry turned out to be rather disappointing. The service was just about average — we had to request the table to be cleaned before being seated, ask for the menu, remind staff to take our order, and even follow up after a long wait. Table 72 seemed completely out of sight for the staff, and they appeared to forget about it altogether. While I do appreciate that we were given a table quickly since we had a baby, the rest of the service fell short of expectations. For a place that charges premium prices, I would expect at least basic customer service, which was lacking. The food itself was average, and I didn’t find anything particularly enjoyable. A very famous restaurant in Pondi. One can give it a try if they have the patience to wait. Ambience is great with both indoor and outdoor seating. The washrooms were well decorated and clean. Food is tasty but a bit pricey. Chocolate macchiato is a must try if you love coffee. Service is a bit slow.

I think this place is living upto it's hype. You look for any youtube travel channel or any other social media about pondicherry, this place features. We went there after lunch for desert and coffee, it was full but they are well organised. They called us after 15-20 mins wait. The ambience is cool with trees in the middle and seating is pretty nice. We ordered pista cake, apple pie and a Capachino.it took some time but not that too much. We liked everything thing. This place is a must visit - for whatever time. Lunch/Dinner/coffee, it works for everything. Menu is extensive!!

The place is very neatly maintained.. This is old residence (or bungalow) which has been turned out to be a place of business.. When you enter you will find trinkets, clothes and showpieces for sale and the restaurant is located on the terrace.. Ambience is something to look out for.. We had 'Indian Enchilada' which is a hot chapati filled with lentils and salads with some cheese sprinkled.. We enjoyed the food and ordered some chocolate pan cakes and Vennila icecream.. Pancake was loaded with chocolates and truly homemade.. Though the prices of the food is overpriced I didn't bother to pay for it as we spent a quality one and half hour chatting and enjoying ourselves.. Service time was fairly good.. I'm likely to go back to this place and spend some time..

It's a small place located at the corner of the Surcouf Street in the White Town. The Ground Floor is a boutique and the rooftop is the restaurant. The place has live performances on Saturday evenings usually. The menu is very limited, though they are delicious. The restaurant is a good place to hangout with friends or visit solo and enjoy the live performances.

This place will offer some traditional food menu, but don't expect mouth watering food. If you like to have a romantic dinner at a roof top cafe, go for it. It is bit over prized in my opinion, considering the quality of food served.

If you are searching for a good french course that is really gonna improve your french - this is the one for you.( Études Français ) I took a 10 months course and started at zero level and finished at A2. In the end I had a lot of vocabulary and much more knowledge about grammar. Not only that, I had much more confidence with talking which was a real challenge for me. My teacher was Antoine. he taught us truly how to enjoy the studies and have fun with learning although they were super intense. he answered all our questions with love and patience. Highly recommend this course and definitely will be back there next time.

Sunday market on mg road is a lot crowded and you get no quality items here. I am told that the vehicles are banned in sunday and the shops open up on the street. I wandered for over an hour but could not find anything worth buying. Nehru street is adjacent to it and it has very good showrooms for clothes.

Great place to shop for household items like carpets,curtains, second hand electronics, cheap earrings, utensils, antique coins and home decor etc. I even saw a few women selling caged parrots and finches. Walking is the only way you can traverse the market with ease. Be careful of pickpockets and speeding two wheelers in the lane.

Not meant for tourists. Only useful for the locals. Besides couple of shops selling old coins and cameras, there's absolutely nothing more to it for us.

Pondicherry Sunday Market is a lively place with lots of stalls selling clothes, books, accessories, home items and more. It’s a great spot for budget shopping and you can find many secondhand books and unique items at good prices. The market gets crowded, but that’s part of the local vibe. Best time to visit is early morning, as it’s easier to walk around and you get better choices. Bargaining is common, and carrying some cash helps. Parking can be a bit difficult, but overall it’s a nice place to explore on a Sunday and experience local Pondicherry culture.

Good Food but Slow Service at Surguru Restaurant.. My dining experience at Surguru Restaurant in Puducherry is of mixed feelings. On one hand, the food was truly delicious and well-prepared. The flavors were delightful, and the presentation was impressive. Each dish we tried was a treat for the taste buds. However, the service left much to be desired. Despite the great food, the slow service dampened our overall experience. We had to wait quite a while for our orders to be taken and then for the food to arrive. It was evident that the staff were overwhelmed and could benefit from better management or additional help. Overall, if you have the patience to endure the wait, the food at Surguru Restaurant is worth trying. I hope they address the service issues to make the dining experience even better.

Great lunch for vegetarian. An old house reformed into a restaurant. Luckily I got the table once I entered and normally it looks like there will be a 10-15 mins waiting time during weekends. The food was okay. Since it is pure veg restaurant we can go for it. The ambience is good. Can visit for one meal. Quantity was fine even the price was comparatively low than Bangalore.

Very slow service and comparatively very expensive. The cashew pakoda was cold and hardly had any cashews in it. We ordered a pomegranate juice for 140rs (which is normal) but the quantity was very less (pic attached). I wouldn’t recommend if you want to have a quick, tasty and worthy meal.

We’ve been here a few times — it’s our go-to spot for lunch whenever we’re in Pondy. The taste was definitely better in the past, but we still enjoyed being here.

During our visit to Puducherry, we had the pleasure of dining at Surguru, and it was an absolute delight! From the moment we stepped in, the ambiance was warm and welcoming, and the service was prompt and courteous. The staff was attentive, ensuring we had a great dining experience. Now, coming to the most important part – the food! Surguru truly serves authentic South Indian cuisine with flavors that transport you straight to Tamil Nadu. Every dish we ordered was prepared to perfection. The Sambar Vada was crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and soaked in a flavorful sambar that had the perfect balance of spices. The Plain Dosa was crisp and golden, while the Rawa Onion Dosa had a delightful crunch with caramelized onions adding a touch of sweetness. The Parotta was flaky and soft, paired beautifully with the side curries. To complement our meal, we tried their Filter Kaapi, which was rich, aromatic, and an absolute must-try for coffee lovers. The Masala Tea and Ginger Tea were refreshing, with just the right amount of spice and warmth. Overall, Surguru exceeded our expectations with its authentic flavors, generous portions, and impeccable service. If you’re in Puducherry and craving delicious South Indian food, this place is a must-visit. We would happily return for another fantastic meal!
