Incredible. Kind, polite staff. Sandwich and cheesecake were simple but excellently crafted. Vienna coffee was so yummy but idk what was in it 😅 we went twice in two days because we were so blown away. Atmosphere is kinda old school French, but more wabi sabi? Cozy. They even gave us a gift of pastries. Gochisousama Deshita!

Popped by this cozy little retro cafe for an afternoon tea. The cafe and the staff were cute and charming. We got a coffee and a hot grape drink (was intrigued when we saw this item on the menu). When we took a sip of the hot grape drink, we realise it’s probably more for kids as it tasted a candy-like drink. Still, it was fun to try something new. The cafe also offered sweets and snacks but we were not hungry so we only had a drink each.

Before reading I want to say I never write reviews. This place is so good and the staff was so welcoming and warm I just had to write this. We came here after travelling from Kyoto to Hida-Takayama to eat some lunch. When we got inside we all got a warm feeling and felt really welcome. The host was welcoming and when we got seated they gave us warm towels to clean our hands. The food and drinks where delicious! I got a caramel cappuccino and a onion cheese toast. After paying our check the staff even spoke some Dutch to us since we come from the Netherlands! The day after we went again and even got a gift when we left! I would recommend this to everyone that comes to Takayama.

What a little gem of a place. Very good coffee and such welcoming staff. Wish we had of found it sooner... rather then on our lay morning in Takayama. We loved the ambience and the little biscuits served with our drinks. The hot lemon drink was delicious. After leaving the waitress ran down the street after us to give us some free biscuits... what a treat and so kind. Highly recommend this place.

I'm not sure what everyone sees in this old, run down, dirty place of a Cafe. The radio is on full blast, and the waitress was not hygienic. The food is nothing special. Disappointing. Lots of junk lying around.

This place is cute from the start. It is in a detached house, super well decorated. You enter it and it feels like you are teleported to another time. We had a morning set here, the traditional Japanese breakfast. It is well served and affordable and, most importantly, delicious. As it ought to be. Take a detour to your morning plans and stop here!

Lovely place, and the chocolate crepe and banana juice were perfect. We showed up for opening time, and all tables were occupied within a couple of minutes. Despite the kitchen being a one-person show, everyone was served withing half an hour.

The loveliest breakfast place EVER!!! Also, it is pretty much the only "classic" breakfast place in this part of Takayama. The prices are ridiculously cheap and the food is ridiculously good! Loved everything about it. I suppose it is ran by a mother and her daughters and they're as cute as the place they're running. ¥500 for the breakfast set including the coffee. Unless you are into eating sweets for breakfast, you have to eat here. 10/10!!!! You will not be disappointed!

This place has such delicious crepes! My sister and I got two crepes with vanilla ice cream and strawberry jam, and it was the best crepe I've had in Japan! We were able to sit outside as well and enjoy the beautiful sun. The service was fantastic as well - such a sweet woman who served us! I highly recommend taking your break in Takayama here.

Very yummy hot chocolate. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The omelettes all have chicken in them. The only vegetarian options are the egg tomato sandwich and the corn soup. The atmosphere was amazing!!

I'm glad we decided to eat here and not just buy snacks at the general store. We were lucky. It wasn't too busy. Initially, we sat at the back counter but before our food arrived the table at the window became available so we moved there and enjoyed the view. Both our orders were very good and generous sizes. Friendly service. We didn't have to wait for the table, but food took a while (25+ minutes?) to arrive even though there were only two orders ahead of us. I could see the chef in the kitchen being very meticulous in his work. Take note of the sign outside. If you're in a hurry, this is not the place for you. If you’re looking for a really great western style breakfast (after enjoying the amazing japanese food for a while) this is the right place. Great breakfast for a fair price, good service and great atmosphere. We got 2 breakfasts, one veggie one ham and cheese and a matcha latte (soy milk based). Really recommend

Has a great coffee here earlier, noticed that they offer Fish & Chips on their menu, so returned later for dinner. Honest view - some of the finest fish & chips I’ve ever tasted. Followed by a sublime nut and caramel tart. And they serve full pints of draft beer 😃. Excellent service, delicious food, reasonably priced. 5 stars from me.

This place is not far from Takayama JR station. While we were waiting for next bus, we found this place and had lunch here. It is like a bistro, there were 2 staffs, one who handled cashier and drinks, the other cooked. It was a bit slow but not terribly slow. Food was good. Generous portion. The restaurant is a bit small, especially if any customers bring their luggages inside. Luggages should be left outside of the restaurant. Toilet is available for its customers.

Great value for money! I love the reusable sake souvenir cup you buy for about 500 yen and self-pour style to try different sakes. I would have liked a chance to learn more about the brewery and sake produced, but there was very little information. Unfortunately there were so pushy and unruly travelers, so please be respectful and patient!

Amazing sake shop with an option of sake tasting which you get the sake cup. Great sake selection and other products that have sake. Enjoy your sake in their mini lounge and try their Gashspon machine to get a nice shop surprise.

Huge variety of sake available for sale, you’ll be spoil for choices at this brewery! Best part, they have sake vending machine for you to sample which is probably the highlight of this shop. Quite fun as you can go around sampling any type with just the token. If you love sake, do change the token with ¥1000 note so you actually get extra. Perfect for the winter weather too, we went in from the sudden snowfall and gust. The sake just gave us the extra warmth we need.

This is such a great stop in Takayama. You can taste all of their sake by paying 200 yen (you can keep the cup), but if you're a cheapo, just go to the counter and just point some bottle and said tasting. They will give you plastic cup, and will offer you any sake you want.

What a lovely place! So many sake bottles to try! For only 200yen they give you a cup and they direct you to a fridge of 11 bottles of sake to taste without supervision, please be respectful and try one of each which you will see it's worth the tasting price and on top of that you can KEEP the cup! They also have delicious sweets and sakekasu which would be amazing on bread or a rice bowl.

24hrs Coin Lockers are a scam. Had to pay double because I locked my belongings over night. You have to rename the lockers or at least print out new instructions. Thought it was a joke, that someone overwrote the Instructions. I’m extremely angry!

This little cafe just to the right outside the West exit of the train station on the ground floor serves a delicious ham and cheese breakfast sandwich on a savoury English muffin. They were kind enough to make it part of a set by discounting my coffee although it wasn't advertised as such . Service is attentive and friendly and they have free Wi-Fi which is a bonus for any traveler

Many places near our hotel at the bus station were closed or open later so we settled here for breakfast. Wanted to try something local so we went for the Hida Beef sukiyaki sandwich and a basic butter jam sandwich. Coffee is not bad.

Run by two old ladies with kind and warm welcome. When i went there the second time, they were extremely warm and friendly towards me and happy to see me again. They were accommodating of my request of eating fruits i bought from Jinya morning market in the restaurant. I ordered shrimp fried rice, strawberry-blueberry cake, matcha roll cake. All of them were good. No complaints!

This place is an absolute gem in Takayama!!! It's run by two charming and incredibly welcoming ladies who made us feel at home from the very beginning. They prepared a fantastic breakfast for us, and we were so impressed that we decided to come back for lunch as well. The Hida beef-style curry and rice was one of the best, if not the best, dishes I've ever had in Japan. The Hida beef stewed udon was also absolutely delicious! If you're looking to experience authentic local food, this is the place to go. It’s not fast food, everything is prepared with care, but the flavor is absolutely worth the wait.

If you're in Hida Takayama you must dine at Nanten! We had the Beef Yakiniku rice bowl and it was absolutely delicious! More memorable than the delicious food was the gorgeous little old lady that runs the restaurant, she is warm, friendly and so kind. She brought us lots of little treats and crackers while we were waiting for our meal and treated us to fresh fruit afterwards. We will definitely be back next time!

A lovely place for breakfast - near the hotel we are staying in (Oyado no Koto). Be patient because it’s a small neighbourhood cafe, and I hope you are nit rushing for anything as this is a good place for relaxation :) Ordering is easy, menu comes with English. The cooking lady also came out to greet us and she is so cute and nice. Such warm comments from her and it adds the flavour of being a tourist here. Of course they speak Japanese only, but the kindness counts! Highly recommend to have any meal here, to relax and enjoy the atmosphere.

Excellent food with good value for money, and even when we did'nt finish the food they packed it up for us.

Fast food, but good. Most of the restaurants nearby do not allow foreigners in so we ended up here as a last resort. Turns out the food and the welcome we received were way better than expected. Ended up ordering extra from the menu that we were excited to try. Free refills on tea, rice and pickles. If this is what a comfort food chain in Japan is like, I’m all for it!

They have done really well to turn the store into a quite, chill vibed oasis even with it being on the main road. As expected the products are a consistent high standard across all stores with this one being no exception. There are plenty of chairs albeit good luck getting the ones by the window as it looks like most ppl are set in them for the long haul either working or studying.

I would give 6 stars for service if possible. Every single person here gives 110% every time I come. My Japanese isn’t great and I have special dietary restrictions that make it difficult sometimes but they are always amazing. The atmosphere is great. All the furniture is made by Hida Sangyo, which is based in Takayama. This is, by far, my favorite Starbucks in the world!

I have to confess that I'm not a big fan of this chain but this Shop is really nice. It's located at the back of the train station. That means, there are not so many tourists here. If you have to wait for your train, it's a perfect place.

A quiet little Starbucks located right outside a major supermarket. This place is fantastic to visit during a rainy day. The ambience is warm and contemporary, and the service staff speak passable english so communication shouldn't be a problem for those unable to speak Japanese. Coffee is better that standard fare, though not the best, but the seats are comfy, with full lengths glass windows for one to gaze through while contemplating with a warm cuppa in hand.

Grateful that Takayama has a Starbucks so I was able to get the Gifu stamp on my passport. ☕️ Slightly accessible from the station so it’s not bad to visit after a long day of strolling around town. 🤓

I only had the special sweet potato drink that looked great. Just tasted like a Carmel whipped cream drink with just a hint of sweet potato. Much sweeter than I expected for a drink in Japan. Kind of like an ok Starbucks drink. Interior was modern, clean, and ok. Nothing bad just nothing great. Plenty of people with suitcases waiting on trains. If I went again I would focus on coffee. They do not take cash and offer oat and soy milk. Outlets on counter seat for those looking to charge.
