They have so many unique subs, all served on the same perfect bread. It was really hard to decide because I saw at least 5 I wanted to try. One of their regulars who was picking up gave us some recommendations, she said everything was good it just depended on your mood. (Thank you, nice lady!) My husband took her advice and got the kingston jerk chicken sub and I had the Buenos Aires. The steak was cooked to perfection but the jerk chicken was our favorite. The subs are large enough to split but you wont want to. The staff was friendly and very fast. They do have a table inside and bench outside but this a take out place. My hubby said Affogato [ espresso pour over gelato ] was good. His OMG Loaded was good. But too many potatoes. They still served us the salmon farm pressed sushi even though I notified them of my allergy which was a shocker despite how adamant they were of the danger of me having any seafood dish. The sushi was horrifying. It matched the description to a certain extent but as a person of color, seeing it layered like a trifle cake was such a shock and the flavor was so disappointing. Hoison sauce in Chinese and Asian cuisine is never really paired in this way and there was no soy sauce provided. We promptly got the check and I was on the brink of tears leaving. It was the best food i had on the east coast for the few months we have been here. We got the fried shouk with the mint sauce. My kids would rate the burger as 7 out of 10. I ordered the lechon kawali bowl and turon, plus my kids' 2 burgers and bottled water. And the check came out to over $50. So yeah it can get somewhat pricey. The main question is......was it worth it? If the restaurant is somewhere in your vicinity? Yes. It's worth it. But if you are not, I won't recommend it for a drive. I am a Filipino and far be it for me to put down another Filipino business but here is where I think the issue came down to. In its effort to facilitate and bring the Filipino cuisine to the masses, they made some culinary choices that actually compromised the Filipino in the dish. The lechon kawali was 100% great however....the Java rice did not complement it well. Too much pepper that it gave a weird aftertaste. I think they should have stuck to the traditional sinangag or garlic fried rice or at the very least ease up on the heavy handed seasonings. The Pogi Turon was good but turon is already a great dessert. Had they stuck with the traditional turon presentation, it would have been justifiable to charge $8 for 3 pieces. I didn't even taste the banana within it thaks to the overloaded drizzle. Nice touch with the sesame seeds though. Over all....I think the menu offers a new twist to Filipino cuisine. This is not your corner carinderia experience. This is midscale hip Filipino fusion place. If you are Filipino who is ready to expand your palete, then most definitely hit up this joint.
