(原文) Rock Creek Park is Washington, DC’s 1,754‑acre urban sanctuary—a lush mix of meadows, forests, and stream valleys right in the city. This historic natural preserve was founded in 1890 and designed by the Olmsted Brothers . It offers an exceptional network: over 32 miles of trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and trail-running, plus scenic paved paths along Beach Drive . The park also features a nature center with live exhibits, a planetarium, tennis courts, a golf course, the century‑old Peirce Mill, and the historic Joaquin Miller Cabin . Visitors love its peaceful woodland, wildlife (deer, foxes, birds), and seasonal beauty—especially fall foliage. It's common to stroll, jog, picnic along bridges and creekbanks, or enjoy ranger-led programs . Tips: bring water, stay aware of cyclists on shared paths, don’t enter once dark falls (park closes at sunset), and head early on weekends to beat crowds. A timeless urban escape with layers of history and nature—highly recommended.

(原文) Rock Creek Park is a nice place to visit, offering a wide range of activities for everyone. As a biker, I particularly appreciate that much of the park is closed to cars, especially on weekends. This creates a fantastic, wide path that's perfect for exploring on two wheels. Beyond biking, the park has a variety of decent hiking trails, plenty of picnic spots, and community grills. With so much to do, Rock Creek Park is a solid park.
Dondré — Google review
(原文) Followed the trail along the creek from Van Ness metro to the Boundary Bridge. Not too crowded on a sunny fall Saturday. One thing to consider it that certain crossings require hopping from rock to rock and some parts of the trail are muddy. So sneakers may not be adequate depending on what part of the trail you're on.

(原文) Absolutely gorgeous park just across from the Kennedy center in DC. It took me about 20 minutes to arrive from Navy Yard when there was traffic. There is a decent amount of parking if you go during an off-hour around mid day as well as a bike path that connects to it. The trail itself is well maintained and easy to navigate. There were so many birds, bees and other critters enjoying the park alongside walkers, it felt like the city was miles away instead of just next door. I love coming here to walk, listen to the sounds of nature, and clear my head during the week. It is truly a DMV treasure!

(原文) One of my favorite DMV hideaways and celebrates one of my favorite presidents. Just across the Potomac from Georgetown and nestled next to Arlington, this oasis of nature is a great spot for short but beautiful hikes and yet you still get plenty of “forest-bathing” —we did some birding and even saw deer on the island!
Fin D — Google review
(原文) Excellent park, plenty of trails and shaded areas with excellent views across the water. Plan your parking well though! Not a lot of spots and they go very quick. The only restrooms are near the parking lot, and are your typical portapotty situation. There are several water fountains throughout the park, however. Highly recommend, overall!
Micah C — Google review
(原文) The Theodore Roosevelt Island park has beautiful views and lots of flora and fauna. The memorial itself is set deep in the woods and pays a great tribute to Roosevelt. I think that the fountains have fallen into deep neglect. We all noticed that the water was not running. The only water in any of the fountains was from rainwater and was fouled from tree limbs and leaves. I found pictures of the same fountains from 2022 and they were in the same condition then. It seems that the Park Service has decided to not maintain the fountains, which is a shame.
Dan N — Google review

(原文) Beautiful area - and I missed the water lilies blooming! Several "ponds" form a sunken garden where you can walk among them and not only enjoy the lotus and lilies, but learn a great deal about them. The Boardwalk was a wonderful find, with more informational signage. Found it while geocaching, and will be returning in July to see everything in full bloom. Picnic tables to enjoy a meal and gathering, and many chairs available to view the gardens and wildlife. Definitely a place I would recommend.

I went early July (and early morning around 9am before the heat) and it had so many blooming lotus flowers. So many varieties too! Be sure to watch your step for some roots on the walk. And definitely look for the small white lotus flowers!! Even on a cloudy day well worth it too. Boardwalk worth it as well for a quieter area.

(原文) I rode the trail from Georgetown to Chevy Chase and back, though the trail itself goes 5 miles further up if you want to go all the way. A good one if you, like me, haven't biked in a while but feel fit enough for a moderate challenge. Except the stretches that go through a little bit of the town, the trail has a beautiful dense canopy which is great on sunny days. You'll be riding either fairly close to the Potomac or through parks. I didn't stop a lot to get good sightings but did hear quite a lot of birds in some spots. There are no provisions for a few miles in between so do carry water, and snacks if you need some. You can get good coffee and bagels once you reach Chevy Chase. It is a free trail, no fees necessary.

(原文) Beautiful paved trail with a good mix of sunlight and shade. The path overall is flat/even (excepting the River Road bridge), but it's technically very slightly uphill in some areas heading north. There are usually at least a few other people within sight on the trail, so it feels very safe. An excellent way to get between Georgetown and downtown Bethesda on foot or bicycle. Other points of interest along the way include: the Bethesda Outdoor Pool, Washington Episcopal School, Little Falls Library, Little Falls Stream Valley Park, Fletcher's Cove, and Georgetown Waterfront. Capitol Bikeshare locations in: downtown Bethesda, River Road, Palisades (a few blocks from trail), and Georgetown.

(原文) Jan 2024 update: Since my initial review, there is work underway on the trail south of Belle Haven Park: - the small bridge just south of the park has been replaced (pictured) - the long bridge at Dyke Marsh is being replaced (pictured) - the sections of the trail that collapsed just north of Northdown Road have been repaired Nice to see! Hopefully this work is a precursor to resurfacing the water and root-damaged sections! ----- The trail location itself is wonderful offering spectacular views of DC, monuments/memorials, and the Potomac River. However, as a cyclist I must sadly rate it a '3' due to its poor and deteriorating condition. Tree root intrusion, water damage, and rough/decaying wooden bridges are common throughout the trail. The section south of Belle Haven Park is especially bad with large potholes and areas where the trail has actually collapsed. If you have never ridden the trail, use extreme caution especially on the southern end. It would have been great if the NPS had received money from the infrastructure bill to rehabilitate the MVT, but sadly that does not appear to have happened. You realize how bad the MVT has become when you ride the W&OD. This is a precious resource sadly not maintained...

(原文) Awesome trail for cyclists, bicyclist, runners and dog walking. Beautiful scenery with mile markers to George Washington’s Mount Vernon Plantation. Rented bikes from Washington DC (Unlimited Bikes) and rode round trip. Definitely recommend E-Bikes with possible wind, chilly conditions and or kids. 18 miles each way. Going back was definitely easier but trail has a lot wooden bridges and bumps in the asphalt from tree roots. Took majority of our day plus visiting the plantation. Highly recommend but if you have kids can be extremely difficult. We rented a tandem and our 11 yr basically enjoyed the ride 😀 Halfway point in a cute town in Alexandria, Virginia with Unlimited Biking location there as well.
请记得携带充足的水、零食和杀虫剂,以增强您的体验 (原文) The Western Ridge and Valley Trail Loop is a scenic trail which encompasses a 3.8-mile loop. Accessibility is a notable advantage, as this trail is easily reachable via public transportation. We opted for the Red Line metro, specifically the Van Ness station, which added an additional 2 miles to our hike. There is also a parking lot available at the trailhead with ample space. We began our hike at the parking lots near the southernmost point, following a clockwise direction. Reflecting on it, I believe it was the right choice. Although the trail app I employ categorizes it as 'easy,' I would personally classify it as more 'moderate.' While the Western Ridge segment felt undemanding, the Valley Trail portion presented its share of challenges. At times, it narrows and abounds with tree roots to navigate. During our hike, we embarked on a side trail, which added an adventurous element. This path was narrow, winding, rocky, and covered with roots, making it somewhat precarious, especially given its proximity to a slope leading to the creek. A stumble or slip could be unsettling. The hike featured several uphill sections and a few tricky spots in terms of footing in the latter half. We relied on our phones to stay on the trail, and even then, we had to adjust our course a few times. Along the way, we passed by a horse center, offering a unique opportunity to see horses on a city trail. In sum, it was a pleasurable hike that commenced with a satisfying climb through the woods and offered enchanting river vistas in the second half. Remember to bring an ample supply of water, snacks, and bug spray to enhance your experience

Not a single mention about the slaves living in the house, their storys etc. and what cruelty they had to endure at this dark point in time in the American history. Very sad and frustrating.

(原文) National Theater's 'Broadway at the National' program is amazing. We've seen at least one show every year. Harry Potter's stage and special effects were spectacular. I can't imagine Broadway being much better, if at all.

(原文) Great theater with history, just went for the first time and worried it'd be rundown b/c of the age. It's not new but it good condition, a little old, worn, stained but usable. Surprisingly easy to exit from. Saw Cursed Child/Harry Potter again - saw a few years ago on Broadway. (原文) I was able to spend 13 days at this Campground. My overall impression was it was a nice boondocking site. Most of the RV sites are spaced to provide some level of privacy. The biggest problem is infrastructure maintenance. This is a federally managed Campground and should have better maintenance. The roads were full of potholes, some deep enough to break an axle. The large trash containers were packed to the brim. Living in old town can be a bit noisy but this little park helps me enjoy a bit of nature and it's a quite a treat too! The landscape is so well kept, there are plenty of benches to sit on, many trees that offer shade when it's really hot and sunny out, and the "trail" itself is nice to get your exercise on too. It's kind of a combination of being both a park and a dog park without the actual dog fence in place - I think it would be nice to have an official dog area in place but they do have a dog fountain for dogs to replenish themselves. My boyfriend and I LOVE to picnic at this park and while it does get busy during the nice weather - it doesn't take away the beauty at all. It's a very pleasant and hip area where you will find both families and friends of all ages hanging out - even on summer nights! Old town is charming altogether, but this is one of my favorite places to be for sure.

A chill vibe with friendly people. One important part for me is the Throne Toilets porta potty because you scan the qr code with your phone, that prompts you to send a text and when you come out they send a survey, it controls who comes in while also allowing you to let them know if its clean.
(原文) This museum did such a great job honoring the lives and history of the enslaved people that went through Alexandria. It is a heavy topic, but absolutely worth learning about. I would definitely recommend this museum! The employees were very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. There's parking in the back. Bathrooms on every floor. Elevator to access the 2nd and 3rd floors. They have stations for visitors to share their thoughts and ideas. Oh and they have a discussion room with seating if you wanted to reflect on what you saw with others.

(原文) What an incredibly wonderful hidden gem. This museum highlights one of Alexandria historical stories about enslaved people. This museum was the site of a slave dealer company and the enslaved people were kept in the facilities in back including a large courtyard. The museum is self-guided but the employees there can provide a good introduction along with fantastic maps to illustrate the timeline of events. This is history we should never forget and we must pay respect and honor to those men, women, and children who suffered under slavery. I implore everyone to please visit this museum and learn something new. Spread the information. Support historical preservation. We must never forget.

(原文) We finally made it to the Freedom House Museum, a celebration of freedom and achievement located in a house that once auctioned enslaved people. The museum effectively conveys the tragedy of slavery while sharing the stories of those in bondage, then the progress made by African Americans (especially by Virginians). Few people understand the enormous size of domestic human trafficking that took place before the Civil War, and the Freedom House Museum corrects this. A few notes: -The folks working there are very knowledgeable & can add a lot to your experience. Talk to them! -There is free parking in the back of the building, and handicap parking in the front. -Inexpensive entry fee (we were glad to support the museum’s mission!). 离开之前我买了两本书——《Uncommon Ground: Archaeology and Early Africa American, 1650-1800》和《Alexandria's The Freedmen's Cemetery》;自由的遗产。 (原文) Was closed when I visited Old Town but I plan to visit again. The African American Museum occupies what use to be the offices of Franklin and Armfield who were the biggest slaves traders in Alexandria. Armfield bought the slaves and then sent them to Franklin in Mississippi and Louisiana to be sold at a higher price. By the 1830s they were offen selling a 1000 slaves a year. This made them the largest slave-trading company in the US intill 1836. Addition - Normally costs about five dollars but it turned out, as a resident of Alexandria, I got in free! A lot of the exhibits dealt with slavery/African American history via first person experiences on top of general history. Also it helped that I had visited some of the sites mentioned and knew some of the stories already. Helped me put things together. There was also a art exhibit. Nice little museum. Before I left I bought two books - Uncommon Ground : Archaeology and Early African American, 1650-1800 and Alexandria's The Freedmen's Cemetery ; A Legacy of Freedom. (原文) Attending a church service is a truly uplifting experience. From the moment you walk in, there’s a sense of warmth and community that immediately makes you feel welcome. The service is thoughtfully structured, blending inspiring sermons, heartfelt prayers, and beautiful music that enhances the spiritual atmosphere. The message delivered is always encouraging and thought-provoking, offering wisdom and guidance that applies to everyday life. Whether it’s a lesson on faith, love, or perseverance, the words resonate deeply and leave you feeling refreshed and motivated. The music is another highlight whether it’s a traditional choir or a contemporary worship band, the songs create an atmosphere of praise and reflection. The congregation’s participation adds to the sense of unity, making the experience even more powerful. What makes the service truly special is the sense of connection not just with God but also with the people around you. (原文) All of the Athenaeum staff was excellent to work with. During the initial planning stages, Veronica and Richard were my main points of contact, both of whom were very helpful answering questions. They were happy to entertain our questions both via email and during the various trips to check out the space. The contract process was fairly straight forward and fortunately renting out the space includes both the art gallery and the outside garden (it rained on our wedding day and the ceremony was initially going to take place in the garden). A few days before the wedding, we were informed that Amanda would be the staffer on hand on the actual wedding day. I sent Amanda my proposed timeline and we reviewed it over the phone. She was willing to assist with flow of show and confirming chair and floral deliveries/set up. She advised us of some renovations that were taking place in the alley behind the garden, which is where the ceremony was originally going to take place. While the staff had not previously informed us of the planned renovation, it all worked out in the end. Amanda emailed me photos of the renovations, offered alternate solutions to ensure the scaffolding wouldn’t be as visible, emailed the contractor to ensure they would be done with the renovations for the day prior to our scheduled photo time and ceremony start time, and offered to be at the venue early to ensure that everything was clean. When I realized it was likely going to rain on the wedding day, I emailed Amanda asking for a quick discussion on a rain plan. She contacted me right away to confirm a time and we spoke the morning of the wedding to come up with a rain plan. She handled the new set up with both the chair rental company and the florist. The set up came out beautifully. Also, one of the photographers left a water behind and Amanda emailed me about the item so I was able to retrieve it the next day. I would definitely rent this space again!
