The bowl itself was great, portion wise, however there were some sauces and ingredients within the bowl that reduced the impact-fulness of that wonderfully flavored chicken. I got their breakfast tacos, the 3 customizable tacos, and a bowl in two separate instances. Both times, it was the most fulfilling lunch I’ve had in a long time. The place has either lost its charm or may be I was expecting it to stand apart from rest of restaurants around the block. The only highlight for me was the crispy spinach appetizers. Honestly, I could have eaten this as all 3 courses, partly coz it’s tasty and a newer take on an appetizer but also coz none of the other appetizers were good and don’t get me started on main course and dessert. Roti was okay, not too hard I guess and naan was nothing different than a roti. Lachcha paratha did taste a bit better than both. Vegetarian dishes for main course were no delight, too watery of a curry with loads of saffron and a silver leaf put in to make it look fancy and basically to cover up the taste of rest of the dish. Multiple menu options in vegetarian section were dishes which you can easily (in 10 mins) make it at home and may be even tastier. Malai palak was just a thick soup of cooked spinach run to a paste. No notes of any other taste. Rice doesn’t come standard with entrees which was a surprise as all other Indian restaurants do include rice along with the dish. Servers were fine, courteous and polite for most of the service, sometimes difficult to find once the restaurant had a few more tables occupied. Food came out decently fast. Overall prices were decent but I bet you can find better Indian restaurants within same price range for better food. Really no effort made to stand out from other restaurants and charge this much!

It was the best food i had on the east coast for the few months we have been here. We got the fried shouk with the mint sauce. It is deep fried mushrooms, pickeled vegetables, crispy lettuce, and tangy mint sauce wrapped up in a fluffy pita bread. The contrast of textures and strong flavores is exactly what I look for in a dish. Everything is vegan and it all looked good but since the first thing we got was so good I didn't want to try anything new the handful of times we went back. The design is pretty well put together with cool wall art, crafty nickn-nacks puzzled together, and a good view of the busy kitchen. The prices were a bit high but well worth it and on par for dc. If they had been lower it would have been hard not to get multiple dishes. The food was pretty fast as well and even though it's in to go containers, they seem compost friendly. Having tried Falafel and Shawarma bowls we wanted to try the sandwiches this time. We Picked fried Shouk'n and Shouk Burger. Fried Shouk 'n - Oyster mushroom schnitzel was more appetizing visually but little oily as the mushroom soaks oil but I was expecting it. Didn't taste bad though . We are late (8pm) and the place was packed and hopping. We split two appetizers and three mains between the three of us and it was more than enough food. We started out with the Chikin and Mandu. The Chikin consisted of MASSIVE wings that are delicious. Definitely try this starter! For mains , we got Korean “Jambalaya”, Ssam Board, and Yeomso Jjajangyeon (goat). I’ve been recommended this place multiple times by multiple people so it’s only right. I enjoyed the fact that you can see the kitchen from your seat and everything was open. Our server was great and the head chef was awesome as well. Everyone was so welcoming, friendly and conversational. The Whipped Ricotta Crostini was delicious. The bread to Ricotta ratio was a bit off so we ordered some more bread to balance the ratio. The Rigatoni definitely stole the show. We loved it. They have a pretty extensive non-alcoholic menu which my wife was happy about. The menu is very simple and they do it very well. I look forward to going back. Parking wasn’t too bad but it’s street parking.

The outdoor will provide you with a quieter experience, although it's in a tent in an alley, which is far from the most picturesque scene. I will say the only thing I regret was not getting the buttermilk chicken, it takes 30 minutes to bake and unfortunately we didn’t have enough time to order that but we will be coming back here soon.

One bowl was the chicken shawarma, one featured beets, and the third (I believe) was zucchini. Regardless, all three came served over a bed of outrageously smooth, creamy hummus. Best hummus I’ve had in DC and just might be the best I’ve had outside of Israel. Each main also comes with a delicious, warm pita. We additionally ordered a seasonal fattoush salad and the dairy free, vanilla tahini soft serve for dessert. Unfortunately both were forgettable, fattoush was overly soggy and the ice cream pretty flavorless. As a Japanese person who has recently moved to the United States of America I often assume that any kind of “Japanese” restaurants that I see in America is not going to taste that great and what I am used to in my big beautiful home country of Japan in the land of the rising Sun. However, the experience that I had today was absolutely PATHETIC. The service was absolutely atrocious. The person never asked me how we were doing. We were rarely ever greeted. And they never even bothered to refill our water and he literally slammed the receipt down and said thanks for coming and just walked away without asking whether or not we wanted anything else this experience was absolutely garbage. On top of that, the food portions were absolutely heinously awful. The prices were extremely high, and the food portions were tremendously low. The pasta tasted like just generic canned tomato pasta that anyone can make and for us to be charged $28 for this absolute garbage was such a disgrace to my beautiful Japanese culture. I am sick and tired of these “japanese” restaurants popping up all over the place because that is what is deemed in style right now when they really should have absolutely zero reason to be creating these kind of things this is such a disgrace to my Japanese culture, and I find this appalling and pathetic that people still want to come here If you want to have actual proper Japanese food like the stuff that I grew up when I was in the Hokkaido region of Japan then do not go to this establishment. You can definitely find significantly better places in Virginia and you can save yourself a trip in the godforsaken part of Chinatown.

We came for dinner and everything we ordered was delicious, though a few dishes definitely stood out more than others. - The chips and salsa were a great starter. First, service was amazing. Roxane our server was super knowledgeable and helpful with choosing between dishes because I wanted everything. I heard the hype and from both sides of the aisle so I finally checked it out. The ambiance was great. The staff were attentive, kind, and pleasant. Even with the HVAC units in these older buildings not being amazing they had fans all around circulating air making it pleasant (nota bene, summertime). The food was good and unfortunately that is why I am starting this review on food here. I came during brunch so didn’t experience the dinner (tasting) menu. The food was good and sure, it felt authentic but it didn’t wow me. And that shouldn’t happen when you are spending like idk $10 a taco. Just saying. These better be the best tacos in the DMV and they are not in my opinion. I know some taco trucks out in Sterling Va that will wow you. We also got a few other dishes and the tacos were by far the best of the dishes we ordered. Anyways, the food was good but not worth the hype or the price. I will have to respectfully disagree with Amparo Fondita’s expectations of their food pricing. It just isn’t it. I think it would be great if they readjust their expectations and brought the price down a bit and added some flavor.
