The Five Fishermen is a renowned restaurant located in a historic building in downtown Halifax, offering upscale seafood and steak dishes sourced locally. The restaurant's setting adds to its allure, as it operates from a monumental building with a rich history dating back to 1817. While the establishment has ties to intriguing stories such as haunted halls and connections to the Titanic, its focus remains on delivering exceptional cuisine.
We went for a late supper on a Thursday evening in July and was pleasantly greeted by staff. They sat us right away without a reservation. This is a beautifully decorated modern gem in an old building located downtown Halifax. Our server was attentive and super knowledgeable about wine and the menu items. She gave us a lovely recommendation that paired well with our meal and offered next day tour suggestions for wineries! The food was outstanding and worthy of a return visit. We came to this restaurant from a referral and we were pleasantly surprised! Go enjoy a fine dining experience here, as you won’t be disappointed!

Our flight back to Toronto was scheduled for 10 PM, so we decided to make the most of our last evening in Halifax by having dinner somewhere near the Prince George Hotel. While browsing for nearby restaurants on Google, we came across this spot and thought it looked promising—so we decided to give it a try. As we walked in, we were surprised to discover that the building actually houses two different restaurants. Since we didn’t have a reservation, the hostess offered us bar seating upstairs at The Five Fishermen, which we gladly accepted. The ambiance upstairs was warm, stylish, and welcoming, perfect for a relaxing dinner. We were served by a cool and friendly bartender who made us feel right at home. We decided to start with two appetizers, followed by our main courses. Everything we ordered was cooked beautifully and tasted amazing. I’m a huge fan of seafood, and this place definitely delivered on flavor and quality. To top it all off, the staff surprised us with a sweet gesture at the end of our meal in celebration of our anniversary. It was a thoughtful touch that truly made the evening feel extra special and memorable. If you’re in Halifax and looking for a nice spot to enjoy a quality meal—especially if you love seafood—I highly recommend checking this place out. The service, food, and atmosphere were all on point, and it was a perfect way to wrap up our trip.

We had high hopes for Five Fishermen, and while there were definitely some highlights, the overall experience didn’t quite justify the price. First off, the atmosphere is lovely—refined but not stuffy—and the service was wonderful throughout. Our server was friendly and attentive, which really helped set the tone for the night. We originally wanted to try a couple of cocktails, but the prices were sky-high, so we stuck with beer instead. Thankfully, the beer selection was solid and went well with our meals. I ended up ordering the burger, mostly because the steaks were way out of our price range. That said, I was pleasantly surprised—the burger was excellent. Super juicy, with a delicious aioli and tomato jam that really elevated it. My wife had the vegetarian risotto, and while she enjoyed it once everything was mixed together, the base risotto itself was pretty bland. Not a bad dish, but definitely not worth what we paid for it. If we weren’t on a budget, we might have been able to explore more of the menu—and maybe that would have changed our impression. But as it stands, this one’s a 3 out of 5 for us. Nice place, but just too expensive for what we got.

I had the Five Fish Experience and the oysters — both were absolutely outstanding! The oysters were large, fresh, and delicious, and their mignonette was divine. The Five Fish meal was generous and perfectly prepared. What truly made the evening unforgettable was the service. Laura went above and beyond — I’ve never felt so well attended to. The hostesses were also wonderful and welcoming, even taking my coat upon arrival. From start to finish, everything exceeded my expectations. The Five Fishermen definitely did not disappoint!

The Five Fisherman was the first choice on my restaurant list for Halifax and it definitely did not disappoint. The location itself is beautiful - very elegant inside with multiple floors and a classy yet maritime aesthetic. Server was outgoing in an unintrusive way and did an excellent job - bringing things promptly, answering questions, and checking in periodically. The meal itself was great! Had the "Fish Five Experience" which seemed like an obvious choice, as well as a lobster mac & cheese, with some oysters to start. The raspberry mignonette was rather unique and totally delicious - I have a feeling that oysters in the future will always be a bit underwhelming without this delicious addition. Overall loved the meal, definitely a 5/5 experience and would happily visit again if I return to Halifax.

We had a date night here on Wednesday. We just wanted some lobster before leaving the city and this restaurant fulfilled that wish. Our server Alishia was amazing. Her wine recommendation complimented our meal well. The lobster Mac and cheese was tasty and so was the mash that came with the lobster dinner! The lemon loaf 6 ways was quite interesting as a finisher to our night.

Wow, what great service! Laura served us on our vacation in Halifax and treated my partner and I to a special experience. The dinner here was amazing the fisherman dish with Risoto and crab cakes as an appetizers was amazing. Will definitely be coming back on my next stay.

Amazing experience! We went for my wife’s 40th birthday and our server Laura was outstanding! She made the night memorable for the 2 of us. By far the best dining experience we have had. Food was outstanding! Highly recommend the beef and bone marrow, and crab cakes.

The Press Gang Restaurant and Oyster Bar is a charming dining venue located in one of the oldest buildings in Halifax, offering a unique formal dining experience. The restaurant's rustic 18th-century space exudes a historic maritime ambiance, complemented by live music and classic cocktails. Its menu features an array of delectable seafood, meat, poultry, and game dishes to cater to diverse palates.
The Press Gang was our favorite restaurant during our two-week trip to Nova Scotia. Housed in one of the province’s oldest buildings, dating back to 1759, it offers a unique and memorable dining experience. We shared the oysters, the 'Bulkeley' Salad, and the Beet Salad to start. For our mains, we had the Tide and Stride and the Lobster Boil—both were outstanding. Our server was warm, attentive, and made the experience even better. Everything we tried was absolutely delicious. We’ll definitely be coming back!
Marie K — Google review
After returning to the Press Gang for the first time in over 15 years, we were excited to relive our fond memories of the "The Drill" tasting menu. This time, we opted for a la carte, starting with oysters and a main course. The oysters, at $3.75 each, were more expensive than we've seen in Toronto. We ordered 16, which were just okay. We also found it odd that we weren't offered bread, and the amount of lemon provided was stingy. The by-the-glass wine selection was quite limited. For our mains, we ordered the halibut and the tenderloin, both of which were overcooked despite our request for medium. While the ambiance was as wonderful as we remembered, the service was inconsistent—at times overly attentive and at others, completely absent. Overall, we were a little disappointed. We spent 300$ for 2 ...👎💲💲💲

The Press Gang Restaurant & Oyster Bar made for a perfect Halifax night out. Tucked into a historic stone cellar, it feels warm and intimate the moment you walk in. We started at the oyster bar—sparkling-fresh East Coast oysters with classic mignonette and a squeeze of lemon—then moved on to beautifully executed mains (think buttery lobster and a perfectly cooked steak). Cocktails were balanced, service was attentive without hovering, and the pacing let us linger and enjoy. It’s a special-occasion spot that still feels relaxed and welcoming. Pro tip: book ahead and arrive a little early to grab a seat at the oyster bar before dinner.
Jianshu C — Google review
Dined solo at the bar. Sampled a dozen oysters and they were fantastic. Fresh, briny, sweet and tender. Also had the Seafood Risotto which was excellent. The seafood is placed on top of the risotto so it’s cooked fresh and retains its flavor and texture. Both bar tenders were wonderful. Could not ask for a better meal. Will bring my wife next time I’m in Halifax.
Steve A — Google review
Food is not bad, just too much butter and cream for my taste. Price is high for what you get. Service was good, although the mains took longer than expected to come out. Uniquely designed restaurant in a historic building.
Ray L — Google review
I had an amazing dinner at this restaurant and bar! I ordered the lobster, jumbo shrimp, and scallop risotto, it was absolutely DELICIIIOUUUS and you could really taste the freshness of the seafood. They also have a great and varied menu, plus an oyster bar that looked fantastic. The barmaid was super friendly and attentive, I told her the type of alcohol I liked and a bit about my taste, and she took care of the rest. The drink she made was a real delight 👌 Definitely a place I’d recommend and would love to come back to!
IHEB B — Google review
Absolutely highly recommend this restaurant. Staff was extremely attentive. Very knowledgeable on the whole menu. Including drink selections. The chowder was absolutely delicious. I had the Tide and Stride. The steak was absolutely perfectly seasoned and cooked. The bacon wrapped, lobster stuffed scallops were absolutely to die for. It will definitely be a staple for every time i come back to Halifax.

Made a last minute reservation and was pleasantly surprised! Our menu selection was fresh oysters, seafood risotto and steak & scallops. A nice selection of local wines as well.

Irish pub
Durty Nelly's Irish Pub is a stylish and traditional establishment that was originally built in Ireland and then transported to Canada for assembly. Located in the heart of downtown Halifax, it offers a rowdy Irish pub atmosphere with live music and entertainment. The pub is named after a famous restaurant in Bunratty, Ireland, and aims to authentically emulate Irish culture.
An absolutely amazing dinner we had here. We were recommended this pub, it did not disappoint. The pub was busy but everyone was respectful and it made for an amazing night. We sat up in the more dining style tables so it was a bit quieter but if you went closer to the bar the energy, the fun and the music were great! The stew and chicken burger were delicious. The sticky toffee pudding was yummy too! Will definitely eat here again then next time we visit! For those that appreciate it: yes the bathrooms were very clean!
MB U — Google review
I ordered the fish that was very tasty with a crispy batter. The Caesar salad was the highlight for me and I’ll probably order it as a main next time. My Dad absolutely loved his seafood chowder. My husband had the Reuben sandwich and fries. He had me try both and it was the best Reuben I’ve tried in a long time. The staff was beyond friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend for a great pub experience in the city.
Kristi D — Google review
Came here TWICE in my 3 night trip for a conference. DELICIOUS gluten free buns. I had a Reuben with seasonal beer salad (which was THE BEST with the fresh candied pecans and dried blueberries), and the Craic burger with Spice bag fries. The sumac and curry hints in that spice blend were so impactful but not overpowering. I am already planning a trip with the family in summer 2026 and going to bring them here for sure!
Jeneen M — Google review
Stopped here for some snacks and drinks and it was fantastic! The Blarney Chips were delicious, and after having several chowders on our trip so far this was by far the best! Drinks were good too, and there was a ceilidh happening while we were there and the music was awesome! Service was also spectacular, over server was very quick. Loved our experience here!
Jess M — Google review
My party of two was actually forgotten about and we watched others get seated and served after us, but keen observers will note the 5 star rating. It was just a busy night and the staff was so apologetic and kind (they even gave us a free app) and it was water under the bridge. But more importantly, the food was amazing. The french onion dip, guiness stew, cocktails, and the smoke burger were all delicious, especially the dip. Great staff, great food, great music, highly reccomend.
C.J. — Google review
First off, we came for food, not for drinks. The ambience and service looks like it would be a great place for drinks. However, the food was pretty bad. The Irish Stew was undercooked (beef and potatoes) and sour. The seafood chowder was also way too salty.
Geoffrey M — Google review
The food was very good and our waitress Sally was very friendly, attentive, efficient and professional. We will definitely be going back the next time we visit Halifax. Not expensive for everything we had and very generous portions.
Isabelle Z — Google review
Unfortunately we were overcharged for our meals. Also for our non-alcoholic drinks. The waitress took our bills as soon as we started to pay for it so we didn't even have a receipt to look back on and see what was charged. We did tip even though we were missing all of our gravies. Usually it's a fun place to go but we had two birthdays and left leaving feeling very frustrated and hungry.

The Auction House is a hip, casual restaurant that serves delicious pub fare and regional craft beers. They have a beer tasting room where you can taste the different types of beers the restaurant has on offer. The restaurant also has menus for both the regular menu and their brunch menu.
Came here for Karaoke Sunday hosted by Maurice Aucoin. Food was absolutely delicious and reasonably priced with lots to choose from. Nice layout for the bar. Reasonably priced drinks. Staff were on the ball. Karaoke was fun!! Will be back.

We came for a couple appetizers before exploring the boardwalk, and left a bit disappointed. I was excited to have truffle fries as they are one of my favourite apps, but these were the worst I’ve ever had. The Truffle fries: very underwhelming, absolutely no truffle taste at all, Extremely small portion of Parmesan cheese on top, not enough dip for all the fries, and the dip had an overpowering rosemary taste that would’ve overwhelmed the truffle taste if there was any to begin with. The Fried brussel sprouts: they were mediocre, not terrible not great.

Just enjoyed All You Can Eat wings at the auction house! Had the honey garlic and auction (in house) bbq sauce was soooo good! had it with the cotton candy cosmo which was amazing
Maura M — Google review
The pistachio goat cheese burger is honestly the best burger I've ever had. The service was unfortunately not good. The staff was obviously working very hard but there wasn't enough servers to offer a satisfying experience. Maybe 6pm on a Friday is not the best time to visit.
Stacy G — Google review
Was my first time here and we really enjoyed the food! We got OATS MCGOATS 2021 burger and GARDEN PARTY salad. The flavor of salad was rich and tasty, and so many ingredients in the salad. I asked for extra chicken with my salad which was fantastic. The seasoning on the chicken was fabulous. My partner also enjoyed his burger, very meaty but satisfying! We really had a good time there, def will go back sometimes.

Went for a supper and drinks night out with my gf class after a long week of studying. Everyone ordered food and drinks. Drinks took awhile to get which we didn't really have a problem with (except the drinks is what everyone really wanted). Food all came out except mine .. ten minutes go by and waitress hadn't checked on us so one of the ppl at the table went to ask. The order had been completely missed. By the time I got my fish and chips ( I was so hungry I didn't take a picture) it was very hot and fresh and delicious. The French fries are a must have as they are amazing. The deep fried Oreo for dessert is absolutely amazing. Would highly recommend you trying it even if it sounds odd to you. When the bill came I assumed my food would either be taken off or discounted for waiting almost 20 minutes and finishing eating after everyone but nothing at all taken off. The waitress was very apologetic and seemed to genuinely feel bad but personally I expected more.
Andrew B — Google review
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit here. We tried the Mac and cheese appetizer which was fantastic. Our 2 entrees were perfect and the desert was a fried Oreo with ice cream. Restaurant was clean and staff were very friendly to serve us!
Scarey F — Google review
My friend and I almost skipped this place but I’m so happy we didn’t. The auctioneer fries were hands down THE BEST loaded fries we have ever had. The ranch dill sauce on them is 10/10. So delicious and only $15! My friend tried the pistachio goat cheese burger- she said a bit too much going on for ingredients but overall she enjoyed it and would order again. For myself, I had the kimchi burger and it was amazing! So much flavour! The service was also fantastic. Fast and friendly. We can’t wait to come back here someday. Highlighy recommend. 😊

The Economy Shoe Shop is a lively Canadian bistro located in downtown Halifax, NS. This retro-inspired spot is known for its pub grub and cocktails, as well as its local art displays and jazz nights. The restaurant's quirky decor includes chandeliers, a jukebox, and an indoor garden spread across several rooms. The diverse menu offers everything from Thai red curry to Maritime seafood chowder and generous portions of nachos.
Great spot, great location, especially if you have an event at the Carelton, Lighthouse Arts Center, or Scotiabank Arena. Service was quick despite it being a Friday evening. Food was pretty good. Typical pub/bar bites but definitely flavorful. The Buffalo cauliflower bites were spicy.

Great spot to sit, chill, and relax while people watching. Enjoyed the outdoor seating area. Servers were friendly as well as efficient. Food was delicious. Would definitely return.
Kimberly F — Google review
I loved it. The fries were crispy, perfectly seasoned. I fancy myself a Reuben connoisseur, and this one was a 9/10. The only thing I would change would be the amount of meat, it could use more. The atmosphere was nice. However, there were two ladies at the table across from us who made their exhausting political opinions known to half the restaurant. The service (Alex) was incredible, I have zero complaints there. Other than the two political pundits, this place was great. I would recommend it.
MGAE E — Google review
Fish tacos were awesome tasting and good presentation. However, I thought they were part of the handheld menu and would come with fries but they do not. I don't recommend the butter chicken especially the GF option, came with nachos. Service was excellent. The restaurant has some wear n tear on the furniture which lends to its rustic character.

It was a very spontaneous visit on a Friday evening. Staff was a little disorganized but so nice and thoughtful (she put coaster on our drinks while we were out for a cigarette). Food was really good and we enjoyed some drinks. It does look pretty worn dorn inside but the staff made up for it!

My wife and I (visiting from Philadelphia) were confused by the name of the place, but were quickly won over by the delicious food, quality service, and relaxed atmosphere. Our bartender Holly was super nice! As this was our first time in Halifax, we’ll be stopping by the Economy Shoe Shop again whenever we return.

We spent our time at this place for the first time. We were treated friendly, warm and polite by Amelia. She took care of us and check in us couple of time to ensure we would get everything we needed. Amelia is a great person and honest worker to this place, strongly recommend you to give this place a visit and ask for Amelia who will make your experience even better!

Hard to tell what the place is? Stayed for a minute. Describes itself as a cabaret which means that, despite offering a well advertised happy hour on various sites, they don’t accept minors without food purchase, which at 16:30-17:30. Something rather odd and our first across our Canadian holiday. To note for those thinking about making the walk down.

Absolutely love this place. It's very quiet and romantic, candlelight. Servers are top notch and even brought me out some club soda when I accidentally spilled my wine on my shirt. Very attentive! love having the Caesar salad made right at our table-delish! steaks done perfectly as ordered. It's the perfect spot for date night! Lots of wine options.

We heard about this place from a local while sweating it out in the sauna at the Muir Hotel. The pitch? Best steak in town. We booked a few days later, excited. We arrived hungry. Hostess was lovely and seated us right away. A server brought over a board of dry-aged steaks. We tried to order oysters but were told we had to place our entire order immediately. Strange policy, but whatever. We went for it: two boneless ribeyes (medium rare, $68 each), with mushrooms, mashed potatoes, and asparagus. The sides? Decent — if a bit salty. The steak? Just bad. Mine was rubbery, barely warm, and looked like it had been sous-vide’d and waved past a grill. No crust. Cool red center. Visible unrendered fat. You can see for yourself in my photos. I raised it with the server. He insisted it was medium rare and offered to “re-fire it for two minutes.” I declined — didn’t want my wife eating alone while they tried to fix what should’ve been right the first time. From that moment on, we were ignored. No refills. No check-ins. When I mentioned the steak again to a different server while asking for the bill — most of my steak untouched — I got the same dismissive tone: “Ribeyes just cook like that.” No, they don’t. We waited almost ten minutes with empty glasses and a bill just sitting there. Ended up bringing it to the hostess ourselves. She was still nice. Then, as we were leaving, the servers intercepted us — not to apologize, but to defend the steak again and explain how hard it was to get a manager to comp it. Cool story. Maybe just let us know next time instead of leaving us dry at the table. Bottom line: sides were passable, the steak was a waste of money, and the service turned defensive fast. We left annoyed and still hungry. Would not return.

Great quiet ambience for intimate conversation. Service is attentive, great variety for every picky eater, and the food is delicious. Perfectly cooked steaks, the best iceberg salad I’ve ever had. Sadly had no room for dessert.

I’m not a huge fan of meat, but this steakhouse completely won me over! The steak was cooked to perfection, incredibly flavorful, and absolutely worth the price. The sides were just as impressive—the bacon mac and cheese was rich and delicious, and the fries were perfectly crispy. They also have an excellent selection of wine and drinks to pair with your meal. On top of that, the service was fantastic—our server was knowledgeable, friendly, and made great recommendations. I’d definitely go back! Highly recommend.

We had the most amazing experience at this restaurant. Great food, great ambiance and fabulous service. Thank you to Jonathan and the rest of the team for making us feel special while celebrating a special birthday. We will be back!

24th May 2025. Went with my wife for our 1st wedding anniversary. We usually go to Kegs 2-3 times per year. I was really impressed by the service. Food was awesome, the best steak so far. Cutlery and glassware were shinny and spotless which says a lot about a restaurant and attention to details. Prices were a bit surprising though. At $360 for 2 ...it was least $100-$125 more than Kegs. Was it worth it for our wedding anniversary and my beautiful wife?....yes. Will I pay that 2-3 times per year...no.......but will go again at some point

Came here for my boyfriend’s birthday dinner. Nice atmosphere and definitely an upscale place but service was lacking friendliness Also there was no lil dessert or anything for his birthday which I found odd Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes were AMAZING though. But steak didn’t blow us away

Before bringing friends here for a small get-together, I just wanted to try the steak. Big mistake. She spilled water on my pants and shoes - twice. She said the jug had no lid... then just laughed it off like it was nothing. Absolutely unbelievable.

Lot Six Bar & Restaurant is a popular spot in the heart of Downtown Halifax, known for its craft cocktails and modern Canadian plates. The restaurant prides itself on sourcing the best ingredients and staying up-to-date with skills behind the bar and in the kitchen. With a trendy location at the Carleton Hotel, Lot Six offers an impressive selection of cocktails created by skilled bartender Cyle Crothers.
The atmosphere is amazing, we were not rushed at all. In fact our server told us the table was ours for the night. The food is next level. My wife, daughter and myself had an amazing - chill - elegant experience. Thank you.

We had a pleasant dinner here. The location is great. It was unfortunate we couldn’t get a table inside but the patio was nice. The beer selection was good and I really enjoyed the shoestring style fries. The lobster roll was pretty good, but the calamari was a standout for me. The service was fast and we enjoyed our meal.

I think the place is worth it for the drinks! The food is not worth the price and could have been better. The Mac and Cheese that was being raved about in the reviews, it’s good but not for the portion. Their miso chocolate espresso martini was delicious! Would definitely go for drinks!

This is 4.5 stars rounded (reluctantly) down. The atrium is stunning, and the food was excellent, but service was all over the place despite them not seeming swamped and the overall result just wasn’t quite a 5 star experience. Wait times were inexplicably long, and we were going back and forth between two servers - the first was excellent, and definitely tried to improve the situation, but the second seemed to have no idea what was going on. Food-wise, we were there for brunch - everything was well prepared, and the coffee toffee french toast particularly stood out. (It’s definitely more toffee than coffee, but the texture was incredible. Caramelized yet still fluffy.) I’d go back, but I wouldn’t do it on a day where I had a schedule to keep.

This place was honestly a hidden gem. It totally gave me a vibe like I was stepping into a little slice of London ♥️ almost like Covent Garden. The food was absolutely incredible. I tried their seafood boil, and it was out of this world! seriously, the flavors were just amazing. The rice with shrimp was fantastic too. And I’ve got to mention Oz, she was super lovely and really on top of everything. Overall, the place had a great atmosphere, and I’d totally recommend it.

Service was great. Restaurant has a great vibe. My husband loved his order, Bi Bim Bap. He said it was delicious. I ordered the mac cheese it was good, but not awesome. We were there for happy hour. We had two meals, 2 glasses of wine, and 3 draught beer. $100
Cindy S — Google review
My friend and I went today and got a seafood boil for two *see the pictures above*. It costed us $147 with taxes included. There was barely any crab. The crab was so tiny and so limited, you literally couldn’t even crack it with the utensils provided. The potatoes were smaller than my fingernail, and not to mention the sausage that’s supposed to be in there; they put Italian crumble sausage, it’s supposed to be an actual sausage. We didn’t like the muscles and clams so we substituted for extra potatoes and sausage. That barely fed two people. Not to mention we got two espresso martinis each, they were small as anything and $17 each, it was basically a shot of a martini. The service was great though, our server was incredible. We don’t recommend going here, you’re going to get ripped off. I’ve never had to make a review of an establishment before but this was kind of crazy.

Stopped in last evening and I’m so glad we did. Right off the jump, we were treated so well. The staff are outstanding; friendly, engaging and knowledgeable. It wasn’t long before we turned the decision making over to them and boy, they made it wonderful. We started with fresh oysters, shared their Burger Week offering and picked items from the Dine Around menu, having a veritable smorgasbord of deliciousness. The dessert, oh my, what a treat. Hats off to the pastry chef. Completely impressed with the cocktails they crafted for us. There is a lot of beverage experience & knowledge, coupled with passion in spades. We will be back!

Restaurant
Antojo Tacos + Tequila is a lively Mexican eatery that offers a variety of authentic dishes and tequila drinks in a relaxed setting. The menu features options like Esquites or Guacamole for starters, Beef Barbacoa or Cochinita Pibil for mains, and churros with chocolate and Dulce de Leche for dessert. In addition to tacos and enchiladas, the restaurant also offers an impressive selection of tequilas.
I had an amazing experience at Antojo in downtown Halifax! The burrito I ordered was absolutely delicious – fresh ingredients, perfectly seasoned, and packed with flavour in every bite. The portion was generous without being overwhelming, and everything tasted so authentic and well-prepared. On top of the great food, the service was outstanding. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made sure everything was just right from start to finish. It’s rare to find a spot that delivers both amazing food and excellent service, but Antojo definitely does. Highly recommend for anyone craving top-notch Mexican food in the city – I’ll definitely be coming back! 🌯✨

I saw that ”Chinese people do not lie to Chinese people“ in the comments. My friend came to travel from China and had never eaten Mexican food. We walked here. Because I was not familiar with the cuisine, I studied the order for a long time. I conservatively ordered the traditional taco, and my companion ordered others. They are all delicious, and the taste is very good, just like what I ate in Mexico.
Anqi Y — Google review
This place is amazing! The menu is nicely varied with Mexican fare. I've eaten here about a dozen times and it's never failed me. I opted for the nachos this evening, a first for me at this place, and I thought they served it rather uniquely. The washrooms are usually in good order. The staff are always friendly and polite. I didn't think you can go wrong eating here!
Russell M — Google review
At first glance one might dismiss Antojo as a party establishment and you could get drunk here pretty easily with their great selection of (strong!) cocktails and beers. But we came here for dinner and were surprised to find their tacos extremely delicious and some of them even pretty authentic. Service was friendly and quick. Definitely recommend!
Marina — Google review
My experience at this Mexican restaurant was wonderful! I ordered quesadillas and nachos. While the quesadillas were a bit disappointing (I’d rate them 3/10), the nachos completely made up for it, honestly the best nachos I’ve ever had in my life! I’ve never tried anything tastier. The service was also amazing, and the overall experience left a really positive impression. I’d definitely recommend giving this place a try, especially for the nachos!
Daman R — Google review
Birria tacos are incredible and the cinnamon salt rim house margs are so so good. Depending on how many drinks you get it can add up and end up being pricey...it's too easy to down these drinks;) I come here too much, which my wallet doesn't appreciate- didn't realize how crooked/blurry my pics of the drinks are until now...they must've been strong

Full recommend, worth every penny. Service is fantastic, the server I had was at this restaurant for many years and it showed. Very friendly great recommendations, and respectfully prompt. The food was better than expected, truely good. The beef tougne taco where amazing, the flavour was unreal. The chicken quesadilla were great aswell. House ceaser is a must if you enjoy them, margarita was a great recommendation by my server.
Gerald ( — Google review
I’ve been to this restaurant a few times over the years, and while the food is usually decent, the service has always been lacking. This last visit was by far the worst and honestly left a bad taste literally and figuratively. We were shoved into a cramped corner of the restaurant and completely neglected. It took 45 minutes just to get our mains. The appetizers were fine, but by the time our entrees arrived, everything was cold. The cheese had hardened (see photo), and the food overall felt like sloppy leftovers. I also requested extra cilantro (something they charge $1.25 for) and they completely forgot it. It also seems like the prices have gone up, which wouldn’t be as frustrating if the quality or service matched. The server was polite but hovered awkwardly while we were paying, which made me feel pressured to tip over 18% even though the experience was clearly a 1/5. I get that it’s not entirely her fault, but still it was very uncomfortable and my group left very frustrated. I’ve had better meals here in the past, but the service has consistently been terrible. After this experience, I don’t think I’ll be returning anytime soon.

Black Sheep restaurant features eclectic menu with breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. Contemporary tavern setting makes it a great place to enjoy a drink or meal with friends. Innovative menu items such as falafel waffle and lobster on toast are top favorites.
The meals had a different unique twist to them and really enjoyed the homemade condiments and admiring all of the breads as well. Caesar has a great kick with all the right ingredients and garnishes. We came on a weekend and it seemed to be less busy but the brunch food was quite a long wait. If you can allow extra time and don’t arrive too hungry, it’s worth the wait. Had the ceviche as an appetizer and it was tasty. We were too hungry by the time the main food came and forgot to take pictures but the diner breakfast is excellent and a good portion, the brisket Benny is also very good and the meat is high quality. Loved that would could have a side salad with the meal instead of starches. The server was accommodating with the personalized requests and it was a bonus to have a weekend farmers market right outside the entrance.

We enjoyed the most fantastic hand crafted cocktails last night made by Katy. Then ice cold oysters with fresh shaved horseradish. And a delicious dinner after that. The Black Sheep is thumbs up!

I loved the place but for gods name please do not call your shrimp lemon dish ceviche , it has nothing in common with real ceviche. Perrogies were good and shrimp tacos were alright. Vibes are amazing , dark theme and chill music was a hit , I will be definitely back for some drinks. God bless

Food was pretty good. Atmosphere was nice and service was great. I had the Diner Breakfast with half fries and half salad. Would definitely order that again. Salad was so good and so was the bacon and sausage. The star was the focaccia bread toast. Mussels were not well liked and tasted a little off.

I visited The Black Sheep restaurant at its new location on Lower Water st. today and it did not disappoint. Having visited the Dresden location in the past, I will say it has even gotten better. Despite the trout benedict being sold out, I ordered the pastrami benedict, eggs were cooked perfectly and the in house smoke flavour on the pastrami was delicious. We also ordered the fish cakes with poached eggs and it was also really delicious and had excellent seasoning. Capri, our server gave great suggestions for other great eats & drinks in Halifax and was very friendly. Loved this spot!

Superb staff and menu. We did both brunch and dinner over a couple days. Group of 4 and group of 10. The staff provided great service and recommendations. The Bloody Caesar, muddy and spicy, is fantastic.

Amazing experiences! The food is creative and delicious. We had shrimp ceviche, seafood chowder, lobster ravioli and Roulade...and Roulade is a show stopper, creative and well constructed dessert. The only throw back is the hanging artificial pothos. It does not fit with the quality of the space.

The menu features hefty breakfast items like the Lumberjack Plate and shareable options such as the vegetable and egg breakfast burrito. With multiple locations in Halifax, it's known for its all-day breakfast options, hot turkey sandwiches, burgers, and nightly specials.
A cozy little restaurant with great meals and decent prices. The service was super friendly. We ordered the lumberjack and burrito breakfast. The coffee refills were generous.

Love this place! Family friendly, Small little hole in the wall type place. A diner style type of breakfast. Usually a small lineup to get in, very centrally located, foods yummy and the price is great, and portions are decent. Definitely isn't anything fancy, but has been a staple in the neighbourhood for years and is well known to locals and many of the staff have been there for as long as I can remember. Inside definitely is a bit rundown and prob could use some updates, but that's part of its charm and also prob how they can afford to keep prices low. I do find their Vanilla milkshake has a great consistency, but lacks flavour/ is a bit bland. My son loved the Steak and eggs and I thoroughly enjoyed the Jack'd Breakfast poutine. I have also previously had their French Toast and Eggs Benedict which I also enjoy.

First time at Ardmore and it was exactly as advertised! Wonderful diner-style breakfast & brunch! Our server Kelly was excellent, very friendly, and efficient! Our food was great, and the milkshake was phenomenal! The wait was a bit long to get a table, but I was glad I tried it! Would definitely return

Cute spot! Prices are incredible. I had the veggie poutine and it was ok. The hollandaise was bland and my poached soft eggs were way under done for my liking but that could be a personal preference. Others had the the blueberry pancakes and loved them. Was a line up but didn’t take long. Service is pleasant and efficient. Would go back to try something else.

I have been here several times now and every time never disappoints. I had the lumberjack breakfast and my daughter had the breakfast poutine. Both were very delicious. I'm picky with my eggs and they made them actually how I wanted them. Very pleasant server and the coffee is the best. You cannot beat the prices. I will definitely be back.

The waffles are SO GOOD!!! HIGHLY recommend! Service is super friendly, and the prices are great! There can be a bit of a line on Sundays, but that’s to be expected given the size of the diner.

The Ardmore Tea Room is a must for anyone in Halifax with tastebuds! The atmosphere has its own unique charm, the food is fresh, fast and delicious, and the price will make you feel like they forget something on your bill. I started coming here in the early 80’s (yes I’m that old) and I will always make it a must stop when visiting Halifax. It’s well worth the wait for a table, and never leave without enjoying a piece of their coconut cream pie!!

Came here to see what the hype was about because every time I drive by there’s a huge line lining the block. Me and my friend got there bright and early and was not yet a line, got seated very quickly. Lots of menu options for both breakfast and lunch. We got served very quickly. The food was a very generous portion and the prices were great. I ended up getting two large pieces of French toast, bacon, hash browns, and a large glass of orange juice for 15$. Definitely worth the hype, I will be going back and would like to try out there lunch menu

The cafe offers an array of small plates, including customizable cheese and charcuterie boards, expertly curated by co-chefs Josh McCarty and Robert Manazza.
What a lovely little place The wine selection was delightful, very rarely do I find copper wines. Food was fresh and beautifully presented. The ombionce with live jazz music made it that much more enjoyable , though not great for conversation when playing and tighter spaces .

Great little bar I visited on my Halifax trip! Staff were knowledgeable and friendly, and the oysters and cheese board (on happy hour!) were so good! My server Audrey (Aubrey?) was kind and professional, could easily tell the mood of people sitting at the bar and give them as much or little attention as they needed. Great vibes, great drinks, great food, great service!

Great wine bar and restaurant recommended to us by curated food tours, I had the gnocchi which were absolutely spot on, it's one of my favourite childhood dishes, there is an excellent choice of wine by the glass we had the white Rioja. It would have been 5 starts as the services as very good, the noise level was fine initially however the music was turned up twice, restaurants and bars are social places were people come to talk, music is fine it's just the level. I would go back

Went in tonight to have a glass of wine with my partner, we spent roughly $15/glass on a 5oz. glass of wine. While it was a nice spot, I wasn’t expecting to share the table and personal space with mice… when I brought it to the attention of our server, her only response is “we are aware. The menu features an array of shareable plates and hearty options like pasta and classic pub fare, including their standout corned beef sandwich.
They were amazing in regards to service and overall style. They made my daughter's birthday a fun adventure and even gave her the cake with candles. The service was spectacular, and the recommendations were outstanding. The beer samper is fabulously priced. You get the three craft beers for the price of one anywhere else. The food was well portioned and delicious. Served meticulously to perfection with a sense of pride. Of all the locations on the block, this is where to dine. On a side note, my daughter left her $100 sweatshirt behind in the bag we just purchased it in. They put it aside until we came back to claim it. They provided a great experience and were honest.

With the name gastropub, we were expecting higher quality food. The beer was fine but the fish n chips was more on the store bought / freezer side. Shocking since when we asked the server he said it was a popular dish. Also the Fries felt like they were refried, stale almost. Nice looking place and ambiance for drinks, not sure we would go back for the food.

Went there seeing excellent reviews of food, doesn’t live upto hype. Wanted to try Mediterranean Nachos but they completely revised the menu as such. Tried normal nachos, chicken wings and another chicken dish ;wings were smelly and below average and can’t complain about nachos (serving is large for a single person). Overall, average, nothing to be hyped about!
Aswini A — Google review
Beautiful decor and a small menu with wonderfully presented dishes. We went during Dine Out and they had two appetizers for $20 and beer on tap for $6. We had enough food for take out. The chicken sliders were great as they were small and juicy. The fish tacos were a bit bland on its own although it looked very tasty. The cheesy pierogis were tasty and came with around 8 pieces. The pork belly bao had super soft bao bun but the filling was just ok. Overall, it was a good experience and it wasn’t crowded for a Thursday evening. The only downside was that a couple of members in the group didn’t feel too well the next morning from the food.

5 stars because they accommodated us with two kids later in the evening. Beer, burger and nachos were amazing. Wings we good, however, didn't 'wow' me as much as expected when reading the description. Great atmosphere and place to hang out, definitely wouldn't hesitate to go back

I went to East of Grafton for the "Happy Hour" specials & it was great ! You get a very large size of nachos , like a cookie sheet full & the price was great as they are half price from 4-6 . I also had chicken sliders and some Pork Bao with some coworkers . Everything tasted good . Our server , Bethany , was Fantastic :)
Kristy S — Google review
Good place for half priced nachos and pub snacks from 4-6. The nachos ($9.50) were layered well with peppers, artichoke pieces and pickled onion, and had a good ratio of cheese to chip and amount of dip (sour cream, refried beans, fresh salsa). 3 Chicken sliders ($8) were tasty but not very filling. Sat outside on the patio and could hear music from The Pint across the street.
Adam P — Google review
Great food and great service. The decor is awesome as well..some very unique finishing touches that gives the place a classy feel. It's both retro and modern simultaneously though I would say it leans more towards the retro look. I love the glasses they serve water in. They have a great beer menu and some great deals on oysters sometimes. Just a pity it doesn't seem like they have much of a happy hour. One would think that would be good for business?

When exploring the East Coast, a visit to Boomburger COWS Ice Cream in Bedford is an absolute must for ice cream lovers. This iconic shop has been delighting customers since 1963 with its handcrafted ice cream and delectable waffle cones. Known for their whimsical cow-themed flavor names like Cowie Wowie and Fluff & Udder, each scoop promises a fun experience.
This place is awesome! The food is exceptional, the staff are kind, and the atmosphere is nice and wholesome. The burgers are delicious and made with COWS cheese which you can taste. It really adds an elevated taste. The fries are handcut and you can tell! They are absolutely gorgeous and taste homemade! They have a good array of options for drinks, but I got a milkshake, and oh my goodness. This was genuinely the best milkshake I‘ve ever had. It was the perfect texture and the taste was actually amazing. Please go here if you‘re considering, it‘s so worth it!

I had a terrible experience at this burger joint. The staff seemed uninterested and borderline rude from the moment we walked in. It took forever to get seated even though the place was nearly empty. The menu looked promising, but the reality was a major letdown. My burger was dry, bland, and barely warm, with a soggy bun that fell apart in my hands. The cheese wasn’t even melted, and the lettuce was wilted. The fries were cold and tasted like they’d been reheated in a microwave. The milkshake was overly sweet and artificial. On top of that, the restroom was filthy, and the dining area didn’t feel clean or well-kept. Overall, this place is overpriced, underwhelming, and absolutely not worth a return visit. Supervisor is a girl with beard and maybe the other was owner both were uncooperative unprofessional unethical. Please shut this down before its too late.

Firstly, the rating is absolutely accurate. Incredible staff from the friendly hostess that allowed us to be seated early as I had made a reservation but we were hungry earlier, no problems. The food at Sabrosa was really good and hot. Large nacho portions with a double layer of ingredients. I ordered two tequila drinks, and both were absolutely delicious. The service was great. Our waiter, Matt, was very helpful, friendly, and attentive. The indoors of the restaurant were bright and had a great vibe, creating a comfortable atmosphere. There were several booths and high and low table seating areas. The restaurant was busy and almost full. However, very accommodating to their customers. I highly recommend checking out Sabrosa. I will definitely be returning!

Our waitress Samantha was amazing!! She went over each order with us and advised what was in each dish and we were able to alter it to our tastes ( no pickled onions..no jalapenos and such). To be honest I tried your restaurant when you first opened and I did not like it at all, however, I was hesitant to go today but let me tell you Im so glad I did!!! It was spectacular and Ill definately come back again!! Your food is delish!!! Cant wait to come back!!

5☆5☆5☆. All was spectacular. I had their smash burger which came on a bubbling hot plate of cheese. My wife had a taco and a salad. The taco was just amazing. Excellent ingredients, presented just right. Fresh, not heavy and the flavor was spit on. Our server was informed, engaged and the complete experience was perfect. We will be back, very soon.

Stopped in for a supper and tried the Nacho Bowl and Enchiladas; both flavourful and well-seasoned. Portions were a touch smaller than expected, but not a deal-breaker. Big shout out to Emily for incredible service warm, attentive, and all-around amazing vibes. She truly elevated the experience.

We randomly picked Sabrosa for dinner. The food was delicious. Food came out fast and the price was extremely reasonable. Our server, Kim was super friendly and provided excellent service. We highly recommend Sabrosa!

Little Fish Oyster Bar, located at The Five Fishermen in Halifax, Nova Scotia, offers a cozy and intimate ambiance with an amazing tapas-inspired menu perfect for sharing. The restaurant is known for its fresh oysters and delicious lobster dishes. Guests can also enjoy live music while savoring the fantastic fish tacos, fish cakes, shrimp, and fish and chips. The service is great and the mojitos are highly recommended.
If you are looking for the five fisherman, make a reservation. The little fish wine bar is a hidden gem. Caitlin was great, as was the happy hour, $8 drinks and $1.50 oysters! Whoa! I am really liking this East Coast tradition. Crobster roll was excellent, as was the salmon. Dining room was very cozy, and the bar was incredible. A must stop if you are in the area.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We had dinner at Little Fish Wine Bar & Grill and enjoyed a pleasant meal overall. While it didn’t quite match the experience we’d had earlier in the day at The Bicycle Thief, the seafood was still fresh and nicely prepared. Prices here are quite reasonable, especially compared to what you’d pay for similar dishes elsewhere in Canada. The atmosphere was relaxed, and service was friendly. A solid choice if you’re looking to enjoy seafood in the Atlantic Provinces without breaking the bank.

All around disappointing dinner. We were seated outside at a table with a long streak of bird poop - we should've just left then, but we stayed. Food was average at best - my wife had the salmon which she said was just OK. I had the Crobster roll which is apparently an excuse to put only one piece of lobster on a tiny roll along with a little bit of crab salad. There are way better lobster rolls in nearby restaurants for the same price or cheaper. Service was substandard as well. The waitress was extremely inattentive and had to be called over every time to get any service. This included us never being provided napkins or silverware until after our main courses arrived. My wife's salad was dropped off and since there was no silverware, she couldn't eat it. It wasn't until another 20 minutes before wait staff appeared to serve our main courses that we could request to have silverware so that we could actually eat our meals, and even then it took over 5 minutes for someone to return with silverware. Additionally my son's hamburger was brought out well before our meals, and he requested some mayonnaise for his burger. Ten minutes later no mayo, and I had to track down the waitress to make the request again. Little Fish shares a building, hostess, and I can only assume a kitchen with the highly rated Five Fisherman restaurant. However, based on my experience at Little Fish, I wouldn't even consider eating at Five Fisherman now. There are plenty of better options in town.

We have been down to Little Fish twice this summer for their happy hour and absolutely loved it. The drink menu is lovely and the oyster deal cant be beat. We love the shaded patio. Andrew was so kind and we were so impressed that he remembered us on our second visit! We will be back!

As a tourist in Halifax, I was recommended to try The Five Fishermen. I entered what I thought was the right restaurant and asked if there was a table available for five. We were offered a table near the entrance on the right. Everything seemed fine, and we ordered five cocktails. However, I only realized after placing our order that we were actually at Little Fish Oyster Bar and Wine Bar, not The Five Fishermen. I asked if it would be possible to move upstairs to The Five Fishermen, and was told it was full — though maybe there was a chance. In the end, they explained that Little Fish is the “little sister” of The Five Fishermen, so we decided to stay and order. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. While the service was friendly and the setting pleasant, the food did not live up to expectations — especially considering the prices. The mussels were sandy, indicating they weren’t cleaned properly, the salmon tasted off, and the burger was simply not good. The sauce was poor, the preparation sloppy, and the fries were overly salty. All in all, it felt more like a basic pub meal — but at triple the cost. A real letdown after such high hopes.

One of the worst dining experiences we’ve had in a while. The serving staff needs to be better trained. We had to ask for butter for the lobster, a steak knife for the steak, the food was cold and not seasoned. Tap water ‘refilled’ into our sparkling water glasses. We were expecting better after reading the other reviews.

We were a party of three for dinner. The host greeted us nicely and we were seated at a nice table. We ordered about 5 items including a few appetizers to share among us. Our only complain is that they served everything together in one go, and all arrived within four minutes of us placing our order. It was quite unwieldy to eat this way, and some of the food got cold being served this way. Also we can't understand how the kitchen was able to prepare and serve five very different dishes in 4 minutes. Had the feel of a fast food restaurant, which it certainly does not claim to be. Hope the restaurant can improve on this.

Stopped in after seeing the good reviews and being an extension of the Five Fishermen. My whole group were disappointed with our meals. Two got the lobster dinner, I got the lobster Thermidor, and my partner got the mussels. We were expecting the price, but weren’t expecting the lobster to be small, overcooked, rubbery, and kind of tasteless. Even our sides like the potatoes and salads were mediocre at best. The mussels were okay and a decent price. I think we would have rather eaten at the Five Fishermen because it seemed much busier and more popular, but who knows since they’re affiliated. The service and vibes were good, but I would go somewhere else if you’re looking for a good meal.
