Sushi Shige Japanese Restaurant is a cozy and traditional eatery in Halifax that offers a high-end sushi experience, Japanese kitchen entrees, and omakase meals. It's known for its authentic Japanese cuisine and has become a favorite among locals and tourists alike. The head chef, Shigeru Fukuyama, has over 35 years of experience in perfecting the art of sushi-making, allowing for special requests to be welcomed.
Seriously the best sushi place in the city. The entire staff is very kind and thoughtful, and their food is top notch. Reasonable prices and a cozy environment. There's no end of the praise I can give Sushi Shige!
Max — Google review
No nonsense, delicious sushi!! Some of the best in the city honestly, small restaurant so try and go early!! A bit pricey but worth it for the quality of fish.
Riley P — Google review
Feels like a low end sushi shop when I walk in but the food was amazing. I had omakaze for takeout and it was fresh and good. My kids had udon and salmon terriyaki, both were very good. They use traditional ways to make the broth and your taste the fish in the soup. The only not so good feedback was the tempura roll that came with the omakaze has too much mayo and rice.
Uncle C — Google review
I visited from montreal and was happy I found this sushi place. I ordered various items and found all of them to be extremely delicious. The service was very warm and friendly !! Its my favorite part about visiting halifax! 🥰
Nrj S — Google review
Ordered the Omakase dinner for $70 and it was well worth the experience! The taste, portions and presentation of the offerings were superb! Even the fruit dessert dish at the end was delicious! Thank you for introducing me to sea eel and for such a lovely time.
Carol C — Google review
This is a real Japanese sushi restaurant. Food is excellent, with beautiful presentation, and service is superb. Chef Shige's wife is always courteous and kind. If dining in, make sure to have reservations, as this location has only around 20 seats. But I noticed they are always busy with takeout.
Irene A — Google review
The best Sushi in Halifax! You can have authentic Edomae sushi which is provided by Japanese chef here! There is also Canadian style sushi. Sushi which is made by Shige-san is not just a dish. It's kind of an art I guess! Definitely come back to this place :)
T M — Google review
Got things to dine-in and take out. The sashimi are fresh! Personally i think it’s a little bit expensive. The food are good and the waitress is very nice and caring. Ps the salad for the meal set is literally 4 pieces of veggies hahahaha. Very cute small portion of salad.

Nestled in Dartmouth, Genji Sushi is a delightful eatery that has been captivating diners for over five years with its extensive array of Japanese, Southeast Asian, and Chinese cuisine. This unpretentious spot is renowned for its all-you-can-eat lunch and dinner options, making it an ideal destination for sushi lovers looking to indulge with friends.
Came here to eat the all you can eat dinner. The server was super friendly and the food was delicious! Good food portions and food tasted fresh. We got so much food. Nearly half of the menu for such a good price.
Ronnie R — Google review
We went for lunch offer; 20 cad/ person. 11-2:30 pm. Lucus was amazing advising us what to order and potions. We were served with speed as we came near the end of the time. And he continued serving us deserts until we left. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
Reem A — Google review
Everything is in reasonably small portions, that you can order multiple times. The food was delicious, of course there was a few things I tried and didn't like, but it is a good place to try things due to their small portions. My favorite was the broccoli and garlic.
Dem — Google review
If you like Asian food, Gengi its a must try! Incredible amount of options especially for appetizers. Many more options than other asian all you can eat places.
Mohamad N — Google review
Genji Sushi is hands-down one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with warm smiles and attentive service. The staff here aren’t just friendly, they’re genuinely invested in making sure your meal is perfect. They’re always within earshot if you need anything, and they anticipate your needs before you even have to ask. The food comes out impressively fast, yet never feels rushed. Every dish, whether it’s sushi, hot entrées, or appetizers, arrives fresh, beautifully presented, and packed with flavor. The sushi is especially delicious, with perfect texture and seasoning, and the variety on the menu keeps you coming back for “just one more plate.” Cleanliness is another standout here. From the tables to the bathrooms, everything is spotless, which makes the whole dining experience feel even more comfortable and welcoming. Whether you’re a sushi lover or just looking for a great all-you-can-eat Pan Asian spot, Genji Sushi delivers on every front, speed, flavor, service, and atmosphere. I can’t recommend it enough.
Chandler D — Google review
It used to be a favorite until I started reading the health inspection reports. There just isn't a commitment to cleanliness and commitment to common pest control. It seems every time I get a great server, staff, they don't stay and this has been the way since nearly them opening. Sadly I have just moved on to other sushi places.
Kelly H — Google review
For an AYCE, I wasn’t expecting very much. But 9/10 things our group ordered were really tasty. Service was great. Really quiet for a Thursday night so everything came out of the kitchen & sushi bar together.
Elissa C — Google review
My favorite sushi ever. The crew at Genji are incredible, so nice, patient, they will inform you if you have any questions. We talked about the origins of wasabi and they took the time to educate me, really kind. Now the food... So darn good! Definitely get the potato balls, best tempura hands down, sushi 10/10, such a solid spot. Take out is great and comes surprisingly crispy but even better in house. I feel bad for these guys as the two times we went in it wasnt very busy? Nice for us but they deserve a full house as it's the best sushi in NS and honestly every out of province spot I've tried so far. Check these guys out you won't regret it!!

The food here is very tasty and fresh. My husband and I really like this place, and we've been coming here for over a year. We highly recommend this place.

Uber eats. Shrimp pad see ew wasnt even close to anything i know about all the others I've tried. The "vegetables " were wrong for the dishes and slimy. The sauce was almost an sweet and sour egg cream sauce. I couldn't eat it. My daughter who loves sushi spit out the salmon immediately.. my dad had the chicken udon stir fry, his go to.. a 2. The name doesn't mean what it used to. Wow.
Lauren B — Google review
I live in rural Cape Breton 🤩 and sushi is a real treat for me. I’ve tried other places when I do come to Halifax, This sushi restaurant is by far the best I’ve had. Fresh, made on time for takeout, and courteous servers. I’ll be back.
Donna P — Google review
We ordered two combinations and it came with the boot :)) sushi was delicious and the miso soup was excellent.
Chloe D — Google review
Was my first time ordered their sushi and was super tasty and delicious! Love their rolls and nigiri sushi, especially their seafood tempura! The salad (came with the combo) was big and tasty, their salad dressing was surprisingly good. Had a pretty good experience with the food, it was a little bit pricey but definitely worth it! Will order again in the future for sure!
Carrie G — Google review
A friend & I sat on the patio under an umbrella. The food was amazing! Their Caesar cocktail had a tempura shrimp on it, which my friend loved. We each had a bento box (their variety is unmatched in Halifax) and shared some appys. Overall, service was fast, friendly & the food was some of the best sushi I’ve had in the last year. Highly recommend!
JT — Google review
Went here for supper. Was greeted and sweaty quickly. We had our order taken quickly and water was offered right away. Server was quick and helpful. I ordered the spicy tuna roll, avocado roll and spring roll (note:there were two additional pieces to the spring roll from what’s shown in the picture but I couldn’t help but try it right away) . The food came out quick once we had ordered. Presentation was there and looked appetizing. I enjoyed all part of my meal (honestly wish I had gotten another spicy tuna roll because I enjoyed it that much). I would go here again and highly recommend if you’re looking for your fix of sushi!
Amie — Google review
Hands down five stars. It has been quite awhile since we came here and I forgot how fantastic the food is. Love the new renovations as well. The new style is much brighter welcoming. Superb tasting, fresh, healthy food prepared to perfection. I have ordered many different dishes here over the years and every one of them is really good. My favourites are the Thai food dishes, but also many of the sushi rolls are exquisite. The soups and noodle bowls are also worth coming for. Today, I had a Vegetable Thai Red Curry noodle bowl and it was much better than I expected. My husband had the Beef Masaman Curry and thought it was one of the best meals he has had in a long time. We would eat here all the time if we could. Great restaurant for the neighborhood.

Authentic Japanese restaurant
Sushi Jet, located on Robie Street and Salter Street in Halifax, offers an extensive all-you-can-eat sushi menu for both lunch and dinner. The restaurant stands out with its vast selection of about four pages of options, including a variety of vegetarian choices and even fruit sushi. In addition to their sushi offerings, Sushi Jet also features Thai and Japanese menus with affordable lunch specials.
The sashimi was great. The fish was incredibly fresh and melted in my mouth. They have a good variety of rolls and other dishes. However, many of the rolls come in 8-piece servings, which can make it challenging to sample everything when dining at an all-you-can-eat restaurant, especially with smaller groups. The service was excellent.
Niousha N — Google review
I could tell, visiting the other most top-choice places with sushi in HRM, that these sushi rolls is one of the most delicious! The set I big enough - 8 pieces. We ordered 3 sets of sushi rolls and it was just great! If you want to try all other except sushi rolls - go with "all you can eat". Service is kind and careful. The interior and atmosphere is great, with just amazing mirror decor, dark mosaic tile wall panno, nice ambient lighting and cozy atmosphere. Enjoy! Highly recommended, up today - October, 2025
Vik Y — Google review
Come here for all you can eat in the weekend and it's only $27.99 before tax and it comes with weekend special items! Food was super delicious and fresh, the only thing I didn't love was how much rice was in the rolls and how much spicy mayo was on top. But just ask them to see if they can reduce that for you! My favourites were: shrimp tempura, takoyaki, chicken yakitori, the butterfish handroll, beef teriyaki, Miao soup and garden salad. The cat robot is super cool. Well worth the money, I didn't take a picture of everything but service was great! They also have a tiger tail ice cream for dessert which apparently is super rare to find.
Shabnam A — Google review
The food was good, but the service left a lot to be desired. Our orders arrived at different times, even though we were all seated together. The atmosphere was extremely loud, making it hard to hear each other and enjoy the experience.
Helia H — Google review
We were excited by the idea of all you can eat sushi, and self ordering, but I started having an allergic reaction and asked if there was MSG in the food. I was informed it is in everything. We did not enjoy the food that much, or the extremely dark, cold decor. The robot was cute. They are all doing their best and polite but there is no warmth, feeling or ceremony which is what sushi is supposed to be all about.
Ariel R — Google review
Great atmosphere, artsy layout, cool robot delivery, fantastic presentations and flavors really delivered. Would definitely recommend this place! I loved the Vegetarian Dragon Roll and my boys loved everything else! We will be back! :)
Sheva L — Google review
This is a great restaurant to come to eat or enjoy your time with your friends/family. I have been here countless times and have tried both the menu and the all-included options and I find the food to be very tasty and the price absolutely reasonable. There are a lot of options and cute cat robots serving food, and all the waiters were always friendly and nice. I’ve never left this place unsatisfied. My favourite things to order here is beef teriyaki and fried spicy California roll.
Мария К — Google review
I really love the food here. I always enjoy and am excited to dine at this restaurant. The only problem I have is that it would be nice to mark the food that was sent so you know how many you have left. One time, we went there with my partner’s mom, who is obviously a senior, and they didn’t factor that in the price.

Japanese restaurant
Nestled in the heart of downtown, Dharma Sushi is a charming little eatery that has been delighting locals for over two decades with its authentic Japanese cuisine. This petite restaurant offers a cozy atmosphere, complete with an inviting patio perfect for summer dining. The extensive menu features traditional sushi rolls, fresh sashimi, and delectable dishes like feather-light tempura and savory teriyaki. While enjoying your meal inside or on the street-front patio, be sure to explore their enticing lunch and dinner specials.
While on Argyle Street Friday, I wanted a quick bite and chose Dharma. It has been several years since I have eaten there. Dharma is the first place I have ever eaten sushi about 26 years ago. Hideki owned it then. Pioneer in Halifax Sushi. I like the basics when it comes to sushi and this delivered 100%. Cheap sushi plate was $14.95 with SOUP and SALAD. Rice was perfect. I added some gyoza but almost too much food. Everything was great and service was 10/10. So friendly and welcoming.
Scott T — Google review
The salmon was average quality. Overall okay rolls. Though i hope the place looked more clean. Service was timely and fine on a weekday before closing time.
Maziar F — Google review
Yum!! Such a sweet “mom and pop” sushi restaurant. This restaurant really is a hidden gem in Halifax and definitely deserves more recognition for their high quality food😆 sushi is extremely well priced and tastes so authentic. I recommend coming here! You won’t be disappointed.
Katherine — Google review
Travelling with a family of four and experiencing Halifax’s culinary scene we came across this wonderful sushi restaurant. They serve good sushi here. Not the generic franchise chain type sushi. Highly recommend it. Had the sushi dinner and lunch over two days so quality is consistent and delicious. They make the sushi rice properly and the fish was on point.
Ben C — Google review
Small cozy restaurant. The people are very nice and friendly. The service was quick and the food was very delicious. The sashimi was fresh. The cut of the salmon and tuna is a little on the thin side cut. Will definitely return to this little family owned place. Added to my must visit when I return to Halifax.

If you're on the hunt for a sushi haven, look no further than Fresh Happy Healthy Sushi Restaurant! This delightful spot boasts an impressive array of sushi options, featuring 7 types of sashimi, 16 nigiri choices, and a whopping 34 regular maki rolls alongside 21 specialty rolls. But that's not all; their menu also includes tantalizing wok dishes, crispy deep-fried items, and flavorful teppanyaki selections.
The sushi and teriyaki are excellent, and the food quality is impressive overall. However, the staff's behavior felt a bit unusual and lacked warmth, which affected the atmosphere. A more hospitable approach would greatly enhance the dining experience

Amazing quick and friendly service. Food was excellent. Will be going back soon!

Food is ok! Sushi is small. The waitresses are polite but the chef stopped our order with rude warning words and tone (but not admonishment) that make us feel uncomfortable. Maybe the chef just wanted to remind us but he used wrong wordings. (Pic: see how thin is the sweet potato tempura)
SIU W — Google review
the food here is sooo good!! Their nigiri rice to fish ratio is perfect. The salmon belly is one of my favouritesss ! The price for lunch ayce is the most reasonable in Halifax Love coming here
Sammi Y — Google review
Went for dinner on a Thursday night, plenty of tables available. No background music, quiet atmosphere. The prices of the all-you-can-eat were higher in person than they are on their website, so that was an unfortunate surprise for us. Ordered a beer to start, only $5 for a Coors Light, not bad! Dinner was $27.99 plus 10% fee for one adult. The service was good, however we got the wrong food items a few times in a row. (Ie ordered Red Dragon sushi roll but received Tuna sushi roll instead). The food itself tasted good and hit the spot. The very last sushi roll we ordered tasted definitely off, almost like the avocado in it was bad or chemically, but that was a one off. Overall ok experience.
Meaghan S — Google review
Overall great! The decor is nice and modern. The tables have been well spaced. Service was quick and courteous. The menu options were huge, especially considering we just had the lunch options. The food in general came out fast and was well made. Rolls were well proportioned and ingredients were good. Price was exceptionally good!
Christopher C — Google review
Overall really this restaurant falls in the middle. 3/5. The good: place is super clean. Staff were friendly and service was (somewhat) acceptable. Its slower since the food is "Fresh". What could be better: the food isn't as tasty as other places in HRM. Some of the appetizers felt like they were precooked and heated in a microwave. You could tell because the plate was hot. For the price, there are better selections in HRM.
Abdullah A — Google review
The quality of food is not what I was expecting. The chicken was dry and the shrimp was quite small and lacked taste. I'm very upset because I just moved into the area and was hoping for a local gem. Luckily the city has many sushi locations so I won't have to go without.

Wasabi House Quinpool is a popular Japanese restaurant in Halifax, known for its classic Japanese dishes like sushi, teriyaki, tempura, and noodles. Founded by chef Richard Wu and his wife Michelle Lin in 2011, the restaurant has garnered acclaim in The Coasts reader-selected Best of Halifax Awards. It offers budget-friendly options such as happy-hour pricing and a 10% discount on takeout orders.
Our first time going to this restaurant and the experience was wonderful. Delicious food. Amazing service. The place was pretty full of customers for lunch rush but our food still came pretty quick. We got 3 extra food items on the house which was so lovely, tasty and unexpected. We will be coming back here for sure! Thanks for the great service!
Leah — Google review
I've always walked by this restaurant, but it was my first time to eat inside. We ordered a set B for four. The food was served very fast. It was a lot, and the restaurant gave us 4 more rolls for free. We had a big meal. It tasted good, too. Thank you, chef. I just want the rice in the sushi to be small. I'll come again next time.

A top place! A combination of very friendly service, high value for price and delicious, freshly prepared food makes it my only choice to enjoy Japanese cuisine in Halifax. They’re generous and give you free rolls sometimes, I often end up taking a box with me home. And they’re not just about sushi. Take a look at their soup and chicken dinner. Loved every bite. Can’t recommend it enough. Note: it’s a relatively small place, can get full by 9 pm, so you’re advised to come early
Nader H — Google review
Went there while exploring places in halifax and it is one of the best sushi I had so far and this is no exaggeration. We went during happy hours and the store also send in complimentary sushi, saying its on house. I would recommend everyone to try this place for dinner with friends or family. They have crab sushi with mango, it's so good
Jaswinder K — Google review
Went with my girlfriend for lunch the other day and was blown away with the quality and service. I got the chicken katsu don (portion size was very nice and the flavour was great) and the tamago which was also tasty, while my girlfriend got a few different varieties of sushi which she enjoyed. We were very happily surprised when the server bought us some complimentary sushi to the table, which I tried and was very impressed with. Next time I’m in that area I will definitely be back. This is one of those places I would recommend to try if you like Japanese food. I wish them all the best in the future.
James H — Google review
I got food poisoning after eating this sushi. I went to the emergency room in the middle of the night with extreme stomach pain. The tuna tasted incredibly fishy and bloody. For two days I had terrible stomach pain, headaches, and fevers, and I could barely eat anything for two days. I can't eat sushi anymore. I will never come here again.

Probably the best sushi I’ve ever had! I’ve been coming here for over 15 years and the prices have stayed consistent as well as the quality of the food! They always give a few free rolls with any order! If you’re in Halifax definitely come here!! It is always my priority when I visit!

This our favorite place for sushi. The quality has always been great. As a special feature, after you place your order in the restaurant brings two more surprise dishes to your table to enjoy.

Tako Sushi & Ramen is a vibrant and casual eatery located in the heart of Halifax, Nova Scotia. It's a popular spot known for its meticulously prepared sushi and comforting ramen dishes made from top-notch, fresh ingredients. The menu offers a wide variety of options, including the Tokyo Ramen and Vegetable Tokyo Ramen, both featuring a medium-bodied chicken and dashi base with soy sauce flavoring.
If you’re looking for a wonderful dining experience, I highly recommend the best Japanese restaurant in town. It may not have an overly fancy atmosphere, but what it lacks in style, it makes up for in heart. The ramen soup is truly a labor of love, slow-cooked to perfection with rich pork bones, and the noodles have such a delightful texture. And don’t miss out on the tempura—it's a must-order that never fails to bring joy to the table. You'll leave feeling satisfied and nurtured!

Tako Sushi is an absolute gem! Chef Boyong (Ronald) creates stunning, flavorful dishes that are a true work of art. The staff are warm and friendly, making the experience even better. Highly recommend this place for an unforgettable sushi experience!

So amazing every time! The ramen is the best, we always get the #4 (Tonkotsu Ramen) and try a sushi roll or two. Everything is cook perfectly and the service is friendly and quick.

The best Ramen in town. The soup is rich, well-seasoned, and distinct in flavor. They also offer the fusion sushi every day with unique flavor, ingredients and designs.

This spot has a vast menu of sushi options, including quite a few that I haven't seen at other HRM restaurants. I tried some new-to-me rolls and was sooo pleased by how delicious everything was! Will definitely be back.

Excellent sushi and ramen! My family (including a young child!) absolutely loved the food! The service was excellent and had a nice interaction with the chef. The white tuna in particular was SPECTACULAR! Unfortunately we didn’t get any photos since we ate it all far too quickly!

I am giving this place a 1 star only because the server attitude changed in the end and deep fried California roll was ok.Firstly my friends and I came to have supper might I add it was my first time trying this place, my friends recommended it because they had awesome food and customer service few weeks ago.Now it started off with a wait of 1/2 hour before our order was taken and at the time we were the only ones waiting to be served and the restaurant wasn’t full. At around the 20 minute mark, two customers came in and they were offered menu and their food came out in record time, a second set of customers arrived who were also served before us… our sushi was made and sat waiting until theirs was made and they were served before us.When we got our ramen, the soup was luke warm not HOT but like luke warm.We spoke with the waitress and asked her if there was a way to reheat the soup and she said no but to her credit she said she could bring some hot soup to add to ours. Our server came over after with a shrimp tempura that I ordered and without any apologies she said she can reheat the soup but we decided we would take it home to reheat. Might I add the first server said she had no way of reheating the soup.Secondly I also need to point out that we ordered Tonkotsu bbq pork ramen and might I add the pork was not bbq it was like boiled pork no sauce nothing just plain which was ridiculous when on the menu it says bbq none the less After that experience I will not be coming back.

This Japanese restaurant offers all-you-can-eat sushi and main courses such as Japanese curry and Thai green curry. The servers are attentive and the food is fresh and delicious. All of the dishes come with rice, soup or salad, so there's plenty to choose from. The portions are small so you can try a lot of different things, and it's also possible to order additional items if you want.
Mizu on Portland in Dartmouth is an absolute must-visit for anyone craving exceptional sushi and a truly delightful dining experience. Every visit reinforces why this charming spot has become a local favorite. From the moment you step inside, the customer service is incredibly welcoming and quaint. Mizu on Portland consistently delivers on all fronts: delicious food, amazing value, incredibly fresh sushi, and customer service that makes you feel like family. We always leave feeling happy and thoroughly satisfied. Highly, highly recommend!

Food was good. It took a little longer than usual, but it was busy with large parties. Friendly staff. My daughter loves sushi and said the all you can eat was well worth it. Prices go up $34.99 at 2:30pm and is $1 more on Fridays, weekends and holidays.

I had a great experience. They have great selection of food. So many different rolls to choose from. I liked that they had kimchi and dessert cakes on the AYCE menu. Most other places just give you ice cream at the end. One constructive criticism that I wish they would heed (and also for others to be aware when ordering): The rolls are humongous. See pic. Each piece is almost the size of a palm of a male adult. With such big pieces, I was unable to try many of their menu. Some come with 6 pieces per order, which is enough in its own to be a meal for some. Since the point of AYCE is to try variety of menu, I recommend you significantly reduce the size of your rolls. Or at least offer half serving sizes for table with small groups. You offer like 20 different variety of rolls, but I can only eat 3 due to their sizes. But overall, I like this restaurant, and will return to try ones I couldn't on the last visit.

Only 4 stars but a lot of good things to say about Mizu. First. We came around supper time. The place is packed. But we only waited in line for no more than 15 minutes tops. We went with the all you can eat. Ordering through the tablet was very convenient. They didn't screw around like other sushi places and try to not bring out an item or two. Service was 5 Stars! Kudos Now the food. Personally I'm not really an appetizers person. I tried a couple and it's just not my thing. The rolls though! Dont miss the Philadelphia and moon roll. The volcano roll was RIDICULOUS! Deep fried California, was ok. Price. Compared to other sushi places. This is a couple of bucks more expensive. $26 per person I think. I'd pay that difference for the excellent service. Food comes to your table so fast you'd think you're in the ring with Mike Tyson trying to dodge hits. They're fast! Overall this is a top all you can eat place in Dartmouth. Will be back in the future. Thanks Mizu!

Sushi Nami Royale is a popular spot with three locations in the HRM, offering delicious ramen soup for lunch. The menu includes classic options served with pork bone broth, boiled eggs, bamboo shoots, black mushroom, sweet corn and green onion. Additionally, the restaurant provides generous portions of sushi takeout at affordable prices and offers a nightly Happy Hour from 9 p.m. The food is fresh and tasty with fantastic service.
My family attended for a birthday gathering, and my son who is 4 had the absolute best time! They had children's chopsticks for him to learn with and he loved he. He ate almost an entire bowl of Miso Raman by himself. Toddlers are notoriously picky eaters, but he loves this Ramen! Our family tried lots of dishes that everyone loved and took extras home. I like their signature non alcoholic mixed drinks, and they had a nice selection of vegetarian rolls for someone who doesn't eat fish too. Nice atmosphere. The staff were great. Excellent location. There's a playground in Dartmouth crossing right outside. Plenty of traffic. They have bathrooms but there are also public bathrooms outside.

I went here with my daughter tonight. I only got one roll as I was killing time before an appointment. I got a dynamite roll which is pretty basic, I wasn't expecting anything mind blowing, but the roll I received, and the messy presentation was terrible. The roll was dry, small and cold. I was actually insulted by how bad it was. My daughter had a rainbow roll that presentation wise was pretty, but the taste was just ok. At the end the server asked how everything was and I told him the truth and he shrugged me off saying "that's weird". Half of the roll was still on the plate so I showed him how dry the rice was, and he literally shrugged. 🤷‍♀️ Will never go back, and will make sure to share with everyone I know.

I didn't get any photos; I visited on Sunday, June 1st, with my four young kids and sister-in-law. I just wanted to say that the service was amazing; the staff were very accommodating, and the food was fresh. My daughter, who has a sesame allergy, was able to eat sushi; they cleaned the oil for her and cooked her food first. My daughter, who is 1, was treated like royalty and given a small spoon and some crushed ice with a bowl of fruit. This visit was so enjoyable. The waiter was hands-down one of the best I have ever come across while dining with my kids. She was patient, kind, and very engaging. On a scale of 1 to 10, I rate this visit 100.

Incredibly awful experience! Extremely frustrating that how servers treated us and the attitude of the manager and the food is also terrible, the rice was stiff and the fish wasn’t even fresh (btw we think the salmon in p2 is spoiled but they told us that is normal aka” smoked salmon”)
Alexis — Google review
The mango cucumber salad had a strange eggy flavor, and the vegetarian sushi was quite disappointing. Instead of having the veggies inside, they were sautéed and placed on top of cold avocado and sushi rice. The combination of warm vegetables with cold avocado and sushi just didn’t work for me in terms of taste!!

The sushi there is to die for. We order the sweet dreams sushi and Firecracker sushi (vegetarian options), and it was literally so good. The staff is great, super friendly, and the resturaunt is quiet, nice, and overall just amazing. I definitely recommend getting sushi there, its my go to, and im obsessed.

Worse food I’ve ever had from a Japanese restaurant.Teriyaki salmon was black with pieces from the grill. Salad was old and wilted. Tempura was an odd grey colour. Ordered from DoorDash and had to throw straight into the garbage. I called restaurant and was told someone would get back to me. They did not. Will never eat from there again.

Minato Sushi Japanese Restaurant is a delightful haven for lovers of authentic Japanese cuisine, offering an array of favorites such as sashimi and teriyaki. This cozy spot invites you in with its warm ambiance and friendly service, making it the perfect place to unwind while enjoying beautifully presented dishes. Diners rave about the mouthwatering sushi and comforting Udon bowls that tantalize the taste buds. Additionally, Minato Sushi features a selection of Korean entrees, adding an exciting twist to your dining experience.
Amazing good food! Prices have recently been updated as well, so here is the most up to date menu as of June 2023. I’m from the west coast and the first spot I dined in here on the east coast was Minato sushi! The old school pink classic building just stood out from the rest of the surrounding buildings. It’s well worth it! And it’s only run by husband and wife, super kind and generous vibes from them. Recommend trying it if you are looking for some good Japanese food.

Stopped by for lunch. They weren't open on time but it didn't take too long for service to start. The broth was good although I feel like the toppings were lacking in variety and quantity in comparison to what I would expect based on how much I paid. In any case, food came quickly, staff were friendly, and restaurant felt quite cozy. It was a good experience.

A great expensive experience I had here. BBQ eel nigiri is awesome, sake is perfect, tuna belly sashimi is highly recommended and the salmon sushi roles are super delicious because of the Korean sushi rice. Will come again soon. Visiting again after a long time: It's even better. Just give the eel role a try followed by sake and miso soup.

There were only 2 vegetarian sushi options, but the veg dragon roll was very good! Unfortunately, the chef was a little sick, and made the roll without a mask and breathing through his mouth (nose was stuffed) and sniffling throughout. Again, the roll was great! But if I wasn't starving, I would have asked for either a newly made roll, or more likely, wouldnt touch it, pay for it and leave sadly.

This place is very cozy and nice place to have Japanese food. The owner, chef James and his wife were very kind and friendly. We had chef's special sushi and roll plater and an extra roll on the side plus tempura for two people. It was too much food for us two but we killed it!!!!! It was sooooo goooood 👍🏻 especially scallop sushi was the best one for me :)

Nestled beneath Spring Garden Place, this casual eatery boasts a warm red ambiance and offers an array of sushi rolls alongside cooked Japanese dishes and noodles. Absolutely fantastic place for authentic Japanese fare. The folks who own the place were all super cool, and the food was top notch. My personal favorite was the onigiri, out of this world with how good it tasted. Prices are great for the amount of food you get, especially with the lunch combinations. I'll definitely be stopping by should I visit the area again, and you should do the same.

My new favorite sushi place in the city , a little hidden view from the street you come down some stairs and just order everything at the counter and sit after ( aka the servers wont take your order at the table but they do deliver the food at your table ) you pay upfront , it’s practical unless you have free room for desert. We sat and the ambiance is like manga style with a lot a books in Japanese around us , dont get fooled by the decoration because the food is AMAZING trust me I have been to many fancy Japanese restaurants and this one is just as delicious ! We ordered a little bit of everything my personal opinion on the hot sushis ( smoke salmon ) not my cup of tea but my date loved it . And the seaweed salad very tasty, we almost got back again to the restaurant 2 days later because we loved it so much . So guys if you are looking for a delicious sushi this is the place ! ( i am not even sponsoring this lol ) out of true enjoyment of a lovely night out

I'm obsessed with this restaurant. The food is fantastic and the atmosphere is really nice. Really love the tonkatsu ramen (very silky broth) and the shrimp tempura (so crispy and crunchy—it's the best I've ever had).

The food is fantastic. I had ramen bowl and several rolls. The rolls were excellent but the ramen is one of the best I have ever had. So flavourful and the pork melts in your mouth. Worth coming for ramen alone. Atmosphere is very cozy and could have a quiet conversation. A must if you are a sushi and ramen lover.

Ryan W — Google review
The food here is tasty, and the atmosphere is pleasant, but the portion sizes are disappointing for the price. I tried the sushi combo and takoyaki balls, which came to $40, but the portions were so small that I left feeling hungry. While the service was friendly, it couldn’t quite make up for the lack of value in the meal. For what I paid, I expected much more in terms of both quantity and satisfaction.

This restaurant is a gem. Our sushi was delicious, the seafood was super fresh, and the pieces were big enough you could actually taste them, unlike in so many other sushi restaurants. The owner and staff were welcoming and attentive. This is a cozy, quirky place, spacious yet intimate, and the soft jazzy music in the background added to the ambience. We will come back, and also try the other great looking japanese dishes on the menu.

Fantastic food in a great neighbourhood. Service was very quick and friendly. It’s a pretty large space. The pork belly bao buns were really good, along with the potato dumplings! Reservations recommended, we went on the long weekend. We Ordered the house sticky ribs, crispy calamari and shrimp for starters. Both were delicious but the ribs were a hit. My husband ordered the pork ramen which he loved. I got the rice bowl with the fried chicken which was delicious. My friend got the chicken karaage as a main. I would come back to eat here.
Linda T — Google review
The food here is AMAZING. The burger wasn't my favorite, but it was still absolutely delicious. If I had a "complaint," it would actually be the french fries. They're normal frozen crispy fries. I'm not sure if the parm on top is with the extra money, but it sure is delicious. The reason I say the fries are disappointing is because everything else is so delicious. Seriously, you have to go here! The boa buns, the dumplings, the drinks, those ribs! All amazing. 🥰

Wasabi Asian Cuisine is a hidden gem that has won over many customers with its casual and welcoming atmosphere. The deep fried salmon rolls and crispy sweet potato are heavenly, making it a go-to spot for sushi lovers. With excellent value at just $17 for all-you-can-eat, it's perfect for those on a budget. The rainbow sushi pizza is highly recommended as a filling and shareable option. While not the pinnacle of perfection, this place has become a favorite among sushi enthusiasts.
Ordered the rainbow roll, the mango cheese maki, tempura sushi roll and spicy salmon. The chef was generous cause they gave extra on the house.

I wouldn't say that a couple of paintings on the wall and paper lanterns create a strong oriental atmosphere, but overall I wouldn't say anything bad either. And I would advise them to paint a little the walls and add more thematic decorations to improve the atmosphere of the place. We ordered Small house platter set(46 pcs) and Dancing Eel Dragon set, Pepsi and a beer. All the sushi was very tasty. Both my wife and I really liked it. I gave three for the service not because there was anything bad, the people in this place are nice. I gave this rating for just normal service. Prices on sushi are normal, but I think the beer and Pepsi were a little bit pricy.

Went to the Sackville location today for AYCE lunch. I hate to say this, but the experience and the food was extremely disappointing. The salmon was so fishy I was scared to eat it, we regrettably had to waste the things we ordered with it and I asked them to not bring us the rest of the items we had ordered. We also ordered a teriyaki beef, sushi roll, and the steak was so old and cold and tough with a stale flavor as well. The miso soup was good. We had 1 steak and 1 chicken skewer that were decent, tempura veg was fresh, springrolls and the gyoza were good. Unfortunately, I ended up paying forty dollars for 2 AYCE when we barely even ate 10$ each. I didn't want to be rude when I got to the cash. I noticed that they tried to charge me for leaving food that was left behind. And I politely explained it was because it was inedible and I was concerned about how fishy the salmon tasted. They did remove the charge for leaving food behind but offered no discount or apology. If I return to Wasabi House It will not be to the Sackville location. I have never had a problem with the Halifax location. This was a major disappointment and waste of money.

It’s clear they truly care about their customers. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for top-notch sushi and a warm, inviting atmosphere. We’ll definitely be coming back!

Two weekends in a row they didn’t make my order correct. Last weekend no eel sauce even though it’s supposed to come with it. Also had a piece with a hair on it. This weekend I even told them about the mishap last week and they actually made the same mistake again. They told me they definitely put eel sauce on this sushi(photo attached). Even when I called to say they made a mistake, again, she laughed at me and told me it was put on. I assured her it was not. And it’s not. This was only my second time eating here, and now my last. Girl that answered the phone was very very rude. Do not recommend. If I could have given zero stars, I would have, it wasn’t an option. Lots of other places around to get sushi, choose anywhere else but here. And to think I tipped both times too.

Food was pretty good, standard fare, no complaints. Waitress was nice enough but we had some trouble getting her attention. Good place to go when you're hungry, but nothing to make it really standout. Absolutely wonderful experience! Great service, great food and relaxing atmosphere. Food was served quickly and some of the best tasting sushi I've had in years! The prices are very good for what you get, I can't wait to go back!

Restaurant
Roll It Up is a Japanese sushi establishment that offers both classic and contemporary sushi options, alongside an extensive kitchen menu and takeout services. This eatery was chosen for a delightful celebration of a 13th birthday, where patrons were thoroughly satisfied with their choice. The cuisine served was delectable, with piping hot soups that clearly conveyed their freshness straight from the stove. Moreover, the ramen boasted exquisite flavors that were expertly balanced and harmonious on the palate.
We visited this place for my daughter's 13 birthday and were happy we chose this place! The food was delicious. The soups we so hot that you knew it just came off the stove. The ramen was flavored very well.

Bright open space, beautiful place, good sushi Got in late at the Hampton, this spot is right across the street. On a Wednesday night in an hour we saw almost a dozen Skip the dishes food delivery pickups - this is clearly a condo dweller favourite. The sushi is a little overpriced - but it’s clear they take meticulous pride in their food. See other reviews, quality is their superpower. Salad dressing was complex and surprisingly citrus. Beef sashimi had a spicy bite and deep umami flavour. I had a sushi/sashimi combo and LOOK at my pictures the cut of Salmon is thick and divine. Rolls were good and creative - I hear from the Hampton staff people get the party trays for pickup daily. Actually the actual restaurant is very open and decorated thoughtfully. Brought a little peace into our hectic day with small kids.

This is not even to close to authentic Japanese. The food is very Americanized, the sauce, taste, it's missing the taste of fish, taste of the ingredients. At the end, they didn't advertise themselves as a Japanese restaurant, and it was me who walked in. I was just "confused" from the menu, the style, and had false expectations. If you want something authentic, look elsewhere.

This roll was good but the ramen was really bad. You can taste that they used instant noodle powder to add to the base soup, and the noodles were not hot. Their katsu din was so so, the meat is not crispy enough. I wouldn't recommend this place if you are looking for traditional japanese food.

What an amazing experience! Staff, chef, and management so friendly and accommodating. This only added to complete joy the meal provided. Some of the finest Japanese cuisine I have had in years - and I have had good Japanese food! I can't recommend this restaurant enough. It was worth the trip to Halifax for this visit alone.

This place serves one of the best sushi I have ever eaten in my life. I loved the mango and cheese sushi. It was quite unique in taste. The salmon and avacado sushi was so soft it just melted in my mouth. It felt very fresh. The waitress was very warm and had a pleasant personality. She also recommended us the offer that was going inside the restaurant. I highly recommend this place. Its not very expensive as well.
Snehal M — Google review
These sushi rolls are huge! Price is comparable with other sushi places in Halifax, but here I feel like you definitely get more for your buck. They also gave us the white plate of sushi for free! Cute place, great service. We didn't once run out of water. All around great experience.

Fantastic. OMG!!! I am a sushi and roll lover so when I saw that this place was across from my hotel I had to try it. I was not disappointed. Miso soup was perfect, beef sashimi amazing, Philadelphia roll so creamy and flavorful, crispy California roll perfect. I also got a complementary sweet potato roll (first time having this one) wonderfull. All of this for a great price too. I can not say enough good things about this place. I will be back every chance I get. 👍💗 also great takeout presentation too. Good sturdy packaging I didn't have to worry about my food getting all smashed together.

Doraku is a top spot in Halifax for authentic Japanese cuisine, particularly known for its exquisite sushi. The restaurant offers more than just sushi and has a new space dedicated to finer Japanese dining. It's renowned for its delicate warm rice and quality seafood, maintaining a high standard of service and respect for ingredients. Customers praise the freshness of the fish, the quality of every dish, and recommend trying the Agedashi tofu.
Doraku is truly a gem of a sushi bar, and undoubtedly my favorite restaurant in the city. The quality of their ingredients is consistently exceptional, from the fresh fish - including the rare specials they occasionally bring in - to the perfectly seasoned and textured rice. Their sushi is unmatched by most bars in Van, TO, and even many I've been to in Japan. Even their hot dishes and desserts are just as impressive. And just as remarkable as the food is the warmth and hospitality of the people behind it. It's a place tied to some of our best dining memories.

Legit Japanese joint. From the menu to the staff and the way they treat you to the food itself, this place deserves its excellent reputation. Our servers were so pleasant and friendly at all times, the drinks were good (especially for the price) and the food was exceptional. We ordered the agedashi tofu and karaage chicken as appetizers and I think the karaage was in the top 5 I’ve ever had, including in Japan and among the many Japanese restaurants in the SF Bay Area. Seriously, it’s worth going for that alone. We also ordered some botan ebi with the fried heads, a pretty rare treat, and they were delicious. The heads were fried perfectly and were soooo good. For the main event, my companion got a roll with eel in it (meh, not my thing, but he loved it) and I got the large omakase sashimi. The selection of fish was seriously excellent and on par with what you would expect to find at higher end Japanese restaurants. It was an excellent value for the money considering the cuts of fish. The fatty tuna was absolutely amazing. I’m going back to this place ASAP.

This sushi restaurant is absolutely amazing and every piece was beautifully prepared with great attention to detail. The flavors were perfectly balanced, The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, making it a perfect place to enjoy a meal. The staff was friendly and provided excellent service, making sure we had a wonderful dining experience. I highly recommend this place to anyone who loves high-quality sushi!. One top Sushi in Nova Scotia!

I kept saying to my husband, “I think this is some of the best sushi I’ve ever had.” This place was bustling and busy from the second we entered till the second we left, but the staff were so kind to each person throughout it all! We had the chicken karage and some rolls. The fish was so fresh, the avocado clearly used at the perfect time and the sushi rice was my favourite part. Can’t get over how incredible it was. We will be back soon!

Enjoyed a meal there in late September and had a beautiful lunch on the patio with family. Everything was incredibly delicious. I would highly recommend making a reservation - as this is a very busy spot (for all the best reasons). Food was efficiently delivered and taste was excellent.

I'm genuinely baffled by this place's high ratings. The food quality was horrendous. The ginger that we were served with the sashimi (in photo) was spoiled, with a very off-putting smell. We were particularly disappointed in the omakase sashimi platter. I've had sashimi in culinary hubs like Toronto, Vancouver, Osaka, and Tokyo, and even in Alberta where sushi isn't renowned, and never been served such minuscule portions of fish. So small you couldn't appreciate the texture of the fish. This was especially disappointing for a $52 plate explicitly recommended as an appetizer for 4-5 people. Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if these were leftover scraps (they closed at 8:30 and we showed up at 7:40). I've attached a photo with the tips of chopsticks for scale. In that photo the food was largely untouched. The other photo shows the "medium" sashimi platter as it was served. On top of that, the roll we ordered crumbled apart upon breathing on it. Oh, and we were served the food without any plates or chopsticks. Our server walked away after serving the food. We had to wave her down after to ask for them

Hamachi Steakhouse Bar & Grill is an elegant venue offering Japanese teppanyaki fare, sushi, and a large cocktail menu. Located in Bishops Landing, it provides holiday gift card options. While the serving sizes may seem a bit steep for the price, it offers great service and good food. The head chef takes seafood allergies seriously and demonstrates thorough prep and cleanliness. With an attractive patio and pleasant servers, it's a nice place to go for drinks with excellent steak and appetizers.
Love the steak and appetizers. The service is excellent. The view at the water front is amazing.

Food was ok. Music was way too loud to hear the server. Bathrooms was out of paper towel, soap dispensers were busted and it was dirty. Went for a party and with 4 adults and 4 kids. $404 to try everything on the tapenyaki, and for a good bit of booze. Skip the pork. I Would think twice about going back due to cleanliness issues

Terrible! Starters came after first meal was served! We both were suppose to get a media soup....only got one. Asked for steak medium came out rare. Suchi was nothing special either. House flies around the table. Waitress never came back once to ask how things were. Will never be back here again! Would not recommend to anyone!

Service was good. . but cooking was terrible. Ordered teriaki salmon with rice and salad. Couldn't believe how tiny and super overcooked it was. I assumed having seafood in the Maritimes would be a great experience. I ate it because we were starving. I told the waitress about the poor quality and she offered to take it off the bill. I paid it because I ate it. But whoever cooked it should be taught how to cook a salmon properly. Also, a bbq was on the patio offering sausages and burgers for a good price.. But when we went to ask for a few sausages, he said..sorry I'm closed.. It was 3pm on a beautiful sunny afternoon packed with tourists from 3 cruise ships nearby and a packed patio.... Made no sense to close it... Last thing, Ordered the shrimp tempura....wow.....absolutley horrible... No clue how to tempura shrimp or anything. . They were soggy and not crispy at all...as every tempura should be. Get rid of that cook, you're losing customers.

Restaurant
Suzuki is a sushi restaurant located in Dresden Row, Halifax, offering a traditional Japanese dining experience. The restaurant features private rooms where guests can dine on the floor, providing an authentic Asian ambiance. The menu includes the popular Suzuki Roll, which consists of shrimp tempura, eel, avocado, cucumber, and spicy sauce. Visitors praise the high-quality sushi and udon dishes as well as appetizers like beef tataki and spicy chicken bowls.
The environment is very nice. I like sitting in booth here. Soft music as background and quite place to find. The food is more like western style, not tranditional Japanese taste. But it's still satisfy me and my friend. We ordered Queen's Roll, that one is truly tasty and is my favorite among all those dishes as well. The seafood tempura is just so so, it is crispy outside and soft inside. But it makes me feel like I ordered a plate of deep fried fish. The chef must use the general flour instead the traditional tempura powder. Miso soup is fresh made I can tell. Service is nice and friendly. The waitress is very gentle and politely. The environment and the service definitely worth 5 stars. The food is general good, not perfect, but still tasty. ;)Both of us are willing to come again.

Best Sushi in town !!! Quality and fresh fish can be tasted without crazy sauce and toppings. The food comes a bit slow at the weekend, but good food deserves waiting. Super friendly services and perfect dinning experience. The curtained booths are definitely an ideal place for dating.

This is my favorite sushi places in town! I've been to this place for like hundreds of times !They have the amazing sushi and udon here! Highly recommend the beef tataki as appetizer, the beef is high quality and the sauce is absolutely tasty~ and the spicy chickens bowl is really nice for those who are looking for a quick lunch and big meal--it's tasty and a really big bowl! Good food and nice service, definitely will come back sometimes!

A very forgettable sushi place with everything being very average. Service was decent and decor was very orange. We ordered the soft-shell crab roll, the Nigiri dinner and some extra rolls that we thought were unique. The food was fresh and the taste was good but nothing special. I recommend this place for some decent Japanese food but they are like all the other sushi places in Halifax.

This is my favorite japanese restaurant in Halifax! The food is really good (just order what looks good to you, I never had a bad dish!) and always friendly staff. I love the traditional room they have when I can get it, and they have a couple of private booths. It is a nice romantic place to have a date if you reserve the private booth!

Honestly my favorite sushi place in town. Food is hands down the best, staff are great, cozy atmosphere. I love it! Prices aren't crazy, pretty standard for the area, but it's definitely not a place for cheap eats. They don't have a huge beer selection, but they do have a few good ones, so nothing to complain about. You don't come here to drink anyway. Overall, I highly recommend this place. (Best unagi maki in town)
Amanda B — Google review
I'm giving this place a 5, not because it's perfect but so far, this is the best sushi place I've found in Halifax and it's by no means a slouch. The sushi is fresh and well made. Rolls are nice and mouth sized compared to some of the gigantic rolls you get in some other restaurants where it's nearly impossible to eat a piece in 1 bite. I appreciate it when for the dragon rolls (or anything with a cooked meat in the centre), the tempura itself is still hot while the rice is around room temperature. Just let's you know it's a freshly made sushi. The rice dishes have so far been ok. Nothing to write home about but good enough. A bit pricey but can't expect good sushi to come cheap, at least around here. This will be my standard go to place for sushi for now. Dora-Q was also respectable but I've only tried it once so far. I hear it was started by the same person though, which makes sense.

Restaurant
Jixiang Chinese Restaurant is a restaurant in Shanghai that specializes in chinese food. The menu features chow mein and wonton soup, both priced at 11$.
A friend and I had lunch here today and it was excellent. We were both very pleased. The waitress was very friendly and served us well and in a very timely manner. The food was great, very fresh, served hot when we received the hot dishes. If I have one criticism is that I like hot wasabi and their is very mild. I will most definitely eat here again and will tell people I know about it. Oh... I will bring my own wasabi next time though. Thank you for the lovely meal.

I was with a small group that wanted to go for all-you-can-eat sushi, and we decided to try Ji Xiang on Quinpool Road. We got there early in the evening, and the restaurant was completely empty. The server and the sushi chef waited patiently for us to fill out our order, then got to work when we finished up. The sushi was brought out when it was ready, which varied for each dish, but it worked very well for pacing ourselves during the dinner. The sushi was fresh, well-made, and very tasty. The hot menu items were well-done as well, the udon was particularly good. The one thing I would like to see at an all-you-can-eat sushi place is a laminated menu that you can re-use, we had to use a different paper one each time. Otherwise, it was a very positive experience!
Matt V — Google review
They were quick to great us with water and menus but after that we had to call our water over to take our order. After waiting 30 minutes in the freeze cold restaurant we flagged the waiter over to ask for our miso soup. She then got it for us an it was not very hot. As it was the last time seeing a friend of mine for a log time we tried not to let it bug us. About 50 minutes after ordering we received the food... Which was completely wrong. I had order three rolls with spicy sauce on the side. She presented me with veggie rolls, one of which I had ordered. Same thing happened with my friend but she received three rolls still only having ordered one of them. They did leave them for us to eat while they remade the others but unfortunately we did not like any of them (person preference not the food it's self). We waited another 25 minutes with our jackets still on for our real order in which we took with us since we had to leave. Once it came to paying the bill she first tried to charge us for everything, even though it was the same person who waited on us was also ringing us through, we had to explain everything again as to what we had ordered in the first place. I want to go and try again but it was pricey and the service along with the fact you freeze is keeping me away.
Megan K — Google review
My wife and I went to Ji Xiang with friends this evening and were disappointed with the whole experience. Our server didn't write down our orders and brought food to the table that was explicitly asked to avoid (one of us has an avocado allergy and I have a shrimp allergy). When we asked which maki rolls were which, we were met with "I have no idea". My wife's chicken teriyaki dish was forgotten about and the desert was served before everyone received their main meals. The sushi itself was average for 'all you can eat' but we spent more time sorting out our orders than enjoying our evening out. Its possible that we just caught them on an off night, but either way, I don't suspect we'll be back anytime soon.
Brad P — Google review
The waiter did not seem to know the menu items, we received some rolls which were not what we ordered, many of the rolls were inedible for a variety of reasons, the mango salad had some kind of creamy sauce on it that tasted like thousand island dressing, and my inari (bean curd wrapped rice) tasted like mold. I have IBS and eat vegetarian Japanese food because it sits well. I have never felt so sick as I did leaving that restaurant.
Brandy M — Google review
Me and my husband ate here tonight for the first time. The food wasn't that good but reasonable priced. The waiters were very nice. It is a Saturday night and the restaurant was empty. It was VERY quiet. While waiting to order, me and my husband both heard quacking coming from the back where the food is cooked. Yes I said quacking!! Yes, like a duck! I said to my husband, is that quacking I just heard?? He agreed and said yes it was definitely quacking! So although , the staff were very friendlymuch I would not recommend eating at this restaurant due to safety reasons. There is a much better better place in park lane mall, with fresh food and no ducks!!!
Michelle T — Google review
Ordered a 10$ specialty roll that was supposed to have tuna in it, there was no tuna only cucumber, they didn't believe me and embarrassingly ripped apart the roll in front of everyone only to find there actually wasn't any tuna after all. Didn't receive appetizers we ordered and had to ask for them half way through the meal. Didn't receive another roll we ordered and had to ask again. The appetizer salad was an iceberg lettuce head ripped in half with a whole raw carrot broken into 3 chunks on a large plate with nothing else on it, and they gave us a kraft bottle of thousand island salad dressing with it. It was ultimately embarrassing and unprofessional. Not a real sushi restaurant.
Kelsea — Google review
Out late night looking for authentic Chinese food I found a just the place. The food is a real Chinese food which I wasn't expecting Halifax. The decor is nothing fancy the service was excellent and more importantly food was good I paid about $70 for meals that would last me about 3 to 4 days. Just be careful most of the food are spicy and make sure you ask for mild if you don't normally eat spicy food.

Nova Momoya Sushi & Asian Cuisine is a Japanese restaurant in Halifax, established by an experienced restaurateur who has set up several successful Japanese eateries in the area. The restaurant offers a delightful dining experience with attentive service and delicious food, including sashimi, don buri, and BBQ eel handrolls. Guests have praised the fantastic service and recommended trying off-menu items suggested by the staff.
I'll be prompt and let my couple of photos do the talking. This was probably my best restaurant experience I've ever had in this city. The restaurant was quiet and provided a great atmosphere, service from the staff was absolutely flawless. Our server had suggested a couple of off-menu items they could make for us to try. We loved it. I was in the mood for some cozy Japanese food tonight. I'd ordered agedashi tofu which was brought promptly, fresh and hot. It was served a bit different to what I'm used to, but it definitely wasn't disappointing. Sprinkled with a little nori and bonito, and a little blob of sriracha all while sitting in a little bath of dashi based sauce. Second (not pictured, because it was delicious and I got distracted by how great it was) a 6 piece beef teriyaki maki roll which was lovely. Nicely cooked beef with a sweet and tangy made-in-house teriyaki sauce drizzled over top. Following that was a 4 piece maguro sashimi (initially I'd asked about the white tuna, but seeing as it was towards the end of the day, some of the fish had been sold through) but it was wonderful. The sashimi was fresh, and melted like butter upon eating it. I wanted to get more but knew I had to save room for the main course! A traditional bowl of oyakodon, simple as that. There's not much more I can say about it. It was cooked to perfection and came to the table piping hot topped with a spoonful of corn and some sesame seed. I finished with a small greens salad, with their house-made ginger dressing which is probably the best I've ever had (and pro-tip, they'll sell you the fresh dressing for about $6 a bottle) It'd been a while since I'd been to Momoya but I can see myself going back a lot sooner. Thanks for your wonderful service and amazing food!

Went here on Sunday craving for some sashimi and don buri. Definetly was not disappointed with the food and the service. The server was fantastic! Very attentive and asked how every part of our meal was. Even though there was a few other people in the restaurant the service was very quick. Even held the door for us on the way out. I live near Toronto and was just visiting Halifax but this was the best service I've gotten anywhere! My friend agreed with me as well.

Good food and a pleasant place. The staff are welcoming. The chicken terryaki is always good in my opinion; the side salad has a wonderful to me ginger dressing. I find vegetables hard to eat and the dressing makes it enjoyable to eat. Oh! Almost forgot the restaurant is family owned. They are from Japan and had restaurant there.

The food and the service amazed me at this small sushi restaurant. The fish was very fresh and well proportioned with the rice. We tried several of their standard rolls and avoided the commercialised/westernised rolls like California and such and preferred to stick to the classic sushi such as the butterfish sushi, the fatty tuna sushi, and a maki assortment platter. It was so good that we decided to explore further with some special ordered soft shell crab sushi and unagi (eel) sushi to see if they were up to the challenge. Indeed they were and served us up some of the tastiest sushi we have ever had in Halifax. The owner Michael even came out to ask if we were Japanese seeing our order was very traditional and simple. We finished the meal with a decent red bean ice cream which came with a nice mochi filled with ice cream. Delicious food at a very good price. We shall be back again. High praises all around including cleanliness.
Alexa L — Google review
Momoya has been serving great sushi since before 90% of the terrible sushi places in Halifax even existed. The service is always prompt if not super talkative, but they do go out of their way to employ a lot of non-native english speakers so you've gotta take that with a grain of salt. I've been there a few times in the evening when the manager has been in and he's given our parties free sushi, offered us free desserts when we've been way too stuffed to eat them, and always shakes my hand when I go to leave. Fantastic. Also, the chicken teriyaki is out of this world.

We came on a Saturday afternoon, ordered chicken teriyaki and some appetisers. Am so thrilled to find they have Tako Yaki!!! Love it, never seen that in Halifax. Sea Smoke Restaurant & Bar, located in Bishop's Landing, offers a stunning setting to savor some of Halifax's finest seafood while enjoying picturesque views of the waterfront. The restaurant is open year-round but is especially delightful during spring and summer when guests can dine on the fantastic outdoor patio. Sea Smoke's menu features an array of delectable seafood options including fresh oysters, salmon, eel, snow crab, butterfish, tuna, sushi rolls, and poke bowls.
The Sea Smoke Restaurant & Bar features a wide assortment of food but it’s the sushi that was the wow factor for me. Our waitress Carmela (I hope I am getting her first name correct) was fantastic. Friendly, cheerful, attentive and definitely steered us in the right direction when it came to recommendations. She is one of the best servers i have ever had. The rock shrimp followed by the Rock & Roll sushi roll were fantastic. If it weren’t for the fact that we’re returning home to the Ottawa Valley tomorrow I would return for another meal.

A lovely restaurant with a cozy atmosphere and flavorful food! Overall, we had a great dining experience — the dishes were well-prepared, and the cocktails were just perfect! However, I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 because a few of the sushi pieces were overly salty, which made them a bit difficult to enjoy. Our server was wonderful — polite, attentive, and gave us some great recommendations that we really appreciated. This spot is perfect for a date night or a relaxed evening with friends. It definitely left a positive impression and added a special memory to our time in Halifax! 🥂

We were surprised and disappointed to learn when we arrived that the reservation is for inside only, the patio is actually first come, first served, so we had to wait in a line with others who did not have reservations. We waited over 30 minutes to be seated. Our waitress was lovely but service was slow. Cocktails were delicious and came fairly quickly, our appetizer sushi roll was tasty but came at 8:30pm (we were there for 1.5 hours at this point). Our mains were also delicious, apart from the corn that was overcooked, tough and stuck to our teeth, and the veggies, while seasoned nicely, were hard and one step away from raw, particularly the brocollini. The steak was delicious and perfectly cooked, and the seafood was tasty. By the time we flagged down our waitress for our bill, we had been there for 2.5 hours, with much waiting in between. Thankfully our seat was right along the waterfront so we could people watch as we waited, even though it got chilly once the sun went down - we didn't expect to be there so long and didn't bring jackets.

Lovely atmosphere. Visited last night with a friend and we were able to get a fire table while having dinner and drinks. I recommend the sea smoke old fashioned, it was soo good. We both had the surf and turf as an entree. My steak was a little bit overdone but it was still delicious. I wasn’t really a fan of the Korean fried chicken, they just tasted like batter and didn’t have enough sauce. Servers could do better at engaging with the customers, especially when you’re getting tipped on a $300 bill. Will return when I’m in Halifax again!

I'm a seafood lover and a traveler, so when I tasted exceptional dish, I know. They served the best mussels I've ever tasted. Their oyster scallop salmon roe and lobster lollipops were creatively deliciously done!! Beautiful views of the Halifax waterfront in a perfect day!

We stopped for a quick lunch at this restaurant. The patio is on the oceanfront and offers a beautiful view. I had a lobster roll which was delicious and my husband had a Pad Thai, also very tasty. Drinks were cold and they have a great selection of wines, sparkling wines, beers, ciders, cocktails… Great place to rest while strolling around Halifax waterfront.

Cool Atmosphere, Great Drinks – Just Didn’t Hit the Mark for Us This Time We’re giving Sea Smoke a 3 out of 5, but to be fair, we totally see the appeal of this spot and imagine we would’ve enjoyed it more if we’d been able to explore more of the menu. The patio is beautiful, with cozy fire pits right by the water—such a great vibe for an evening out. The drink menu is solid, too. I really enjoyed my craft beer, and my wife was happy with her cocktail—both were well made and refreshing. We didn’t go all in on a full meal, but we did try one of their more unique appetizers—the salmon cigar. It sounded creative and caught our attention, so we gave it a shot. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t our thing. My wife liked it a bit more than I did, but even she wasn’t fully sold on it. That said, props to the kitchen for taking risks and trying something different—you can tell there’s thought and ambition behind the menu. All in all, we didn’t love our experience, but we still respect what Sea Smoke is doing, and would love to come back someday and give the full dinner a proper try when our budget allows it!

Food was pretty good. The ingredients were fairly fresh and tasty. If you order different sushi, it all comes on one plate. This makes it easy to share but could also lead to cross contamination. Service was not too slow and they were able to make changes without a problem. For the ingredients and location the price was reasonable.

Sushi Nami Royale in Downtown is a delightful spot that combines cozy decor with an inviting atmosphere, making it a must-visit for sushi lovers. Diners rave about the freshness and quality of the rolls, which are simply irresistible. While some dishes like the green tea mochi may not hit the mark, they don't overshadow the overall experience. The attentive service adds to the charm; staff members provide helpful recommendations that make you feel right at home.
Such a great experience at Sushi Nami, it was fresh, delicious and you can't stop eating it. The fish was incredible. The mochi (green tea) was a small disappointment ,because it was small and didn't taste very fresh, but it didn't ruin our supper. Thank you :)

The food here is so good! And the better is the service here. Like, Flora gave us very detailed instructions about how to choose the foods we wanted. She gave us the sense of like family members. Good sushi in Sushi Nami Royal.

Visited some time ago. I wanna say the food is pretty mid, felt like a westernized version of Japanese cuisine. Sushi don’t look good either. I know it’s not just me, they genuinely look pretty bad Anyway, as a sushi expert I will say there are much more authentic Asian restaurants
Daria H — Google review
Really enjoyed my experience here! I absolutely love the interior decoration so much🥰 I would recommend coming to the downtown branch just for the cozy decor that makes the dining experience that much better. The rolls were really tasty here, had no complaints. Everything tasted fresh and was of high quality.
Katherine — Google review
I was quite disappointed by the sushi I ordered here. It didn't taste fresh, it didn't taste good, and the sauce to sushi ratio was a mess. With so many great sushi options in the downtown area, I really recommend looking elsewhere. I have been to many other Sushi Nami locations in Atlantic Canada, and while I find that the sushi at these locations is usually a step below the best sushi restaurants in the area; it's usually still fresh, delicious, and doesn't leave me disappointed with my choices The staff were very friendly, and this location has a great atmosphere. But, at the end of the day, what I care about is how good the food is.

We visit from out of town and absolutely love this place! The service is great. One of us is vegetarian and the server was very helpful with making sure the ingredients are suitable (which I almost order a miso soup thinking it’s vegetarian!!) food come out fast and delicious!! So glad there’s vegetarian options! The restaurant is very spacious and lovely. Another great feature I love is the electrical lift - wheelchair accessible. Will definitely come back !
Angie N — Google review
Great sushi! The server was good; but was busy (lunch time rush). Miso soup and side salad flavourful. Spicy Edamame, very good! The green tea was average. Overall a really good dining experience!

First time ordering from Sushi Nami Royale and enjoyed the meal. Ordered kappa maki (cucumber rolls), vegtable gyoza, and miso soup. The kappa maki was good and fresh tasting. The cucumber had been finely chopped and the nori (seaweed) did not have any unpleasant tastes. This shows promise for other sushi dishes here being potentially good. The miso was not as strong as I would have hoped and the gyoza was good (didn't blow me out of the water though). Overall I'd recommend eating there as when picking up the order the interior looked welcoming and comfortable. Seems like a decent place to get sushi in Halifax.

Sushi Nami Royale in Bayer's Lake is a fantastic restaurant that offers a wide variety of reasonably-priced and delicious sushi meals. The service is efficient and the staff are friendly. The menu is extensive with options like the "Sushi Sashimi Course Dinner" section, which offers a great selection of nigri and maki. The meal starts with tasty miso soup and a fresh house salad, although the dressing could be improved.
Great food, was super busy but they gave us a discount on our bill, without us asking, because they felt bad they couldn’t give us the best service.

Normally I am the last person to complain but tonight this sushi was the worst we’ve had. For context we’ve eaten at many sushi restaurants. First and foremost my Philadelphia Roll inside the roll was mainly cucumber and a small amount of cream cheese and a small sliver of salmon on top. But aside from all of that the fish looked and smelled bad (see photos) I ended up not eating the roll. The spicy tuna and salmon rolls that I ordered had no spicy mayo on it. My wife’s rolls were bland and very small and the sweet potato roll was under cooked (although I will admit the dynamite roll was a free roll through Skip the dishes) Finally half the rolls were loosely wrapped and fell apart before we had chance to eat them. I’m sure a busy Saturday night may be to blame but just unfortunate as we were looking forward to a nice meal.

I have always used Sushi Nami as my go to for sushi, mostly because it’s in my neighborhood so it’s convenient. The last several times, I have been very disappointed. I will not return. The last three times I went, once in person, two takeout, the fish was not fresh. It smelled bad, and had a slimy texture and grey colour. When dining in person, I sent all the sushi back to be told they use frozen fish that they unthaw, so that’s why there was a smell (I’m sorry there should never be a strong fish smell). Their non fish rolls, are fine. Veggie is all fresh. While I mostly order takeout, last time was the last straw. I called to let them know the food was not acceptable, and they did offer a store credit, which I will not use. There are so many options in Halifax for sushi, I would recommend trying your luck literally anywhere else.
C J — Google review
Sushi is delish. Don't understand the mayo on the fancy fusion sushi rolls but that's to everyone's PO personal taste. Service fast, friendly and the food tasted fresh. I'm more of a simple roll girl, if fancy is your jam, this is the spot!!!
Dawn W — Google review
The absolute weirdest sushi experience I’ve had. This is Chinese operated so not authentic Japanese. Right from the get go, the server was rude in terms of how she was clearing our table and then when the sushi came, it was on the dry side and had a musty flavour. Couldn’t finish mine, which is a first for me. We go to wasabi House on quinpool typically and there’s absolutely no comparison - night and day.

My family was there on Sunday and ordered $70 in food. Tasted great until... 20 mins later had to stop at a cafe and had the worst stomach pains and diarrhea. Sorry for the graphic detail. All day i was feeling like 🤮. Could only sip water. Had to take nasusa pills to get my stomach to settel. Was sick for 3 days after. Will not return to this location and prob not eat sushi for a very long time. I love sushi but this just ruined it for me.

Arirang Restaurant is an exceptional establishment that offers an array of delectable dishes from both Korean and Japanese cuisines. The eatery provides a diverse selection of options for its patrons, making it one of the top Korean and Japanese restaurants in both Halifax and Bedford. The waitstaff are known for their warm and amiable demeanor, ensuring a pleasant dining experience.
The best korean restaurant in town! The price is reasonable and the food quality is great in every visit 💓

Amazing Korean food with authentic flavors! Great portions, fair prices, and friendly service. Everything was fresh and delicious. Highly recommend and will definitely be back!

This is a hidden gem that is not well known in Halifax. The $13.45 Bento box is one of the best deals in the city. They have multiple options. Food is high quality. Daikon Salad is so fresh. Tempura was light and crispy. Pork was spicy and a generous portion. The Salmon Nigiri was mouthwatering delicious.

I am so happy to find the restaurant in the peaceful neighborhood in Clayton Park. Their Korean dishes are very authentic and tasty. I have tried gam ja tang (spicy pork ribs soup) and soon dubu jjigae (spicey tofuand seafood soup), and bibimbab. Those are all satisfactory tasty and very reasonable prices.

I have been frequenting Arirang for a number of years now, both for their table grill and for menu/dish dining. Every time, the food has been great - both in terms of quality and quantity. Fresh and flavourful - I am a particular fan of their pork belly! (Had some for the grill this week, and the cut was perfect, in my opinion). The biggest challenge is saving room for Bingsoo for dessert - had to come back a second time this week, because there just wasn't room after our mixed grill the first night! :)

Good Koreans and Japanese food with lots of options available on the menu. We ordered a sushi set and a tofu soup. Both came pretty quickly. Although the restaurant was empty, there was a bunch of people picking up food for deliveries or take out while we were there. Food was good but not amazing. They also had the shaved ice as a dessert option which was affordable and delicious. We ordered the mango shaved ice and it came with frozen mango chunks, syrup, a scoop of mango ice cream, and blueberry cheesecake pieces. We spent $50 for two and it was a very filling meal.

This place is fantastic! The food is absolutely amazing and our waitress was probably the best waitress we’ve ever had. We arrived around 6:15 and had our first dish (Japchae) within 20 minutes of going through the menu and ordering. They also gave us complimentary miso soup and it was excellent! We ordered the Tiger Roll to share as another appetizer and it was pretty great too. My girl had the Bibimbap and I had the Bulgogi and we were both super happy about our meals. But the best part of the whole dinner was the Bingsu, which is absolutely delicious and we will be going back often, even if it’s just for dessert! Thanks Arirang!

Sushi Cove is a family run business with beautifully presented and fresh sushi. The original roll combos are delicious and the tempura is crispy. They always take out, which is great.
Best sushi I've had in recent memory! They have fair pricing, it's a family-run business, and while the restaurant may be a little dingey, the food is incredible and you can order food to take out

I had not had Sushi for a LONG time. Driving home from a (failed) wildlife photoshoot. I sped past but noticed the word (Sushi). I pulled in the driveway. Parker and did a quick review. With more than agreeable reviews. I decided to end my hiatus from Sushi. From the moment I entered. A very warm welcome. The place is clean and cozy. The FOOD was, and i don’t use this word lightly. FLAWLESS. I ordered more than I can consume in hopes of saving some for my lunch the following day. I will be making sandwiches. I ate every piece with barely a breath in between !!! What a hidden treasure !
Nicolas D — Google review
I’ve been coming to Cove Sushi for years and it used to be one of my absolute favorites. Sadly, the quality just isn’t the same since the new ownership took over. The rolls have gotten noticeably smaller and are mostly filled with tempura as a filler rather than fresh fish. The seaweed salad also comes in a very tiny container—definitely not worth the price. It’s disappointing to see such a great spot lose the attention to detail and quality that used to set it apart. Not awful, just not the same.
Hannah P — Google review
I just recently found out about this spot and it is actually SO good! I ordered takeout twice. It’s a small cute spot, so not much space for dine in. It was quick service and the lady who served me was very kind and friendly. They are accommodating to dietary needs and use very fresh ingredients! They have a big variety of sushi rolls which is always nice to try. The rolls are nicely filled with not a lot of rice which is perfect and the price is pretty reasonable. I definitely recommend this spot. You can easily order online or give them a call. I sure will be ordering a lot more in the future!! Yum!!

I'm not a big fan of sushi in general because I don't like fish, but this place has several vegetarian and non-seafood options that are incredible! I would eat the mango chicken roll every day if I could - it's that good!

We recently ordered takeout from Sushi Cove and were pleasantly surprised with the improvements under the new management! The quality of the sushi was noticeably fresher, the rolls were well-made, and the portions generous. Everything was packed with care and ready right on time. You can really tell they’ve put in the effort to improve both service and taste. Looking forward to ordering again soon—great job to the new team at Sushi Cove! We highly recommend this place. 👏🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

As far as quality versus price goes. We got 3 rolls for $15 on their lunch special. $30 for 2 people is a fantastic deal for sushi. Delicious food. Cute little place.
