Sri Ranganatha Swamy Temple, located in Srirangam city of Trichy, Tamil Nadu, is a grand and ornate temple complex that dates back over 1,000 years. It consists of seven enclosures and is one of India's most renowned temples.
A truly divine and spiritually uplifting experience at Sri Ranganatha Swamy Temple in Srirangam. The temple's architecture is simply awe-inspiring — rich in history, intricate carvings, and sacred energy that fills the air. The sprawling complex is very well maintained, and the darshan was peaceful and well-organized despite the crowd. Every corner of the temple echoes with devotion and tradition. The sight of Lord Ranganatha in the reclining posture is mesmerizing — a moment of serenity that stays with you long after the visit. A must-visit for devotees and heritage lovers alike. Blessed to have had this experience!

Sri Ranganatha Swamy Temple, Srirangam – A Majestic Spiritual Abode Visiting Sri Ranganatha Swamy Temple in Srirangam, Tamil Nadu, is like stepping into a living tapestry of devotion, history, and architecture. Dedicated to Lord Ranganatha (a reclining form of Lord Vishnu), this temple is one of the largest functioning Hindu temple complexes in the world and a key center for Vaishnavite worship. The temple is immense and awe-inspiring. Its towering gopurams (gateway towers), especially the 13-tiered Rajagopuram, are adorned with intricate carvings depicting mythological stories and divine beings. The sheer scale of the temple, with its seven concentric prakarams (enclosures), gives a sense of grandeur that is both humbling and enchanting. Inside, the sanctum sanctorum houses the magnificent deity of Lord Ranganatha in a reclining pose on the serpent Adishesha. The spiritual atmosphere here is heightened by the rhythmic chants of Vedic hymns, the ringing of bells, and the devotion of thousands of pilgrims. The temple also has several smaller shrines, halls, and mandapams, each showcasing exquisite Dravidian architecture. Visiting Srirangam is not just about admiring architecture; it’s a deeply spiritual experience. Pilgrims and tourists alike can witness traditional rituals, festivals like Vaikunta Ekadasi, and the daily aarti, which make the visit immersive and memorable. Tips for Visitors: Best Time to Visit: Early morning or during festival days to witness special ceremonies. Dress Code: Modest attire is recommended; men should wear dhoti or trousers, women should cover shoulders and legs. Plan Your Visit: Allocate at least 3–4 hours to explore the entire complex. Nearby Attractions: The town of Srirangam itself has many ghats and smaller temples worth exploring.

Visiting the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in Srirangam was a truly divine and unforgettable experience. Located in Tiruchirapalli, this temple stands as one of the most beautiful and spiritually powerful places in India. Dedicated to Lord Ranganatha, a reclining form of Lord Vishnu, the temple is not just a place of worship but a living example of South Indian art, architecture, and devotion. The temple complex is massive and feels like a city in itself, surrounded by seven walls and twenty-one magnificent towers (gopurams). The main Rajagopuram, which is the tallest in Asia, is an architectural wonder — beautifully carved and painted, visible from a long distance. Walking through its ancient stone corridors, you can sense the centuries of faith and devotion that have filled this place. The atmosphere inside is peaceful yet vibrant. The chants, the smell of incense, and the sight of the beautifully decorated deity create an aura of positivity and calmness. The priests and temple staff are polite and helpful, and the arrangements are well-organized despite the large number of devotees. What touched me most was the feeling of serenity and connection I felt during darshan. It’s a place where faith feels alive. The temple also holds immense cultural importance, especially during Vaikunta Ekadasi, when thousands of devotees gather in divine celebration. Overall, Srirangam Temple is not just a religious site but a journey into heritage, devotion, and peace. A must-visit for anyone coming to Tamil Nadu — it truly deserves all five stars.

Peaceful and spiritual experience at Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple. I visited the temple yesterday on the full moon day. It was quite crowded, with special prayers going on, but the atmosphere was very peaceful and filled with devotion. Despite the crowd, everything was well managed, and it felt nice to see so many people gathered in faith. The annadhanam was well organized and served with care — simple, tasty, and offered with genuine warmth. Overall, it was a good spiritual experience and a reminder of the calm that such places bring. #SriRanganathaswamyTemple #Srirangam #Trichy #Annadhanam #FullMoonDay #TempleVisit #TamilNaduTemples #SpiritualExperience

Such a worthy visit. Best temple to visit if you love ancient architecture. Best time to visit will be early in the morning and early in the evening before the temple closes, to avoid crowd. I was not able to get a Darshan because of the long que, even though it was disappointing, the exploration into the architecture made me compensate.

Ranganatha swamy temple is a must watch for the believers and non believers as it’s a mythical monument as well as an architectural marvel. One should read and understand before going the temple which will make us easy to appreciate the same. There are nearby places also to visit. The temple seems larger the Brihadeeswara in terms of of horizontal area of the premises

Blessed to visit the temple again. Thirumanjanam at Dhanvantri perumal sannidhi started at 11.30 am. Many people were waiting to see the thirumanjanam. We need to book the ticket earlier itself. Thank god for good darshan. Om namo Ranganathaya 🙏🙏

Sri Ranganatha Swamy Temple at Srirangam is one of the most magnificent and spiritually uplifting temples in India. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, it is the largest functioning Hindu temple complex in the world, with seven concentric enclosures, tall gopurams, and breathtaking architecture. The Rajagopuram itself is a sight to behold, standing tall and majestic against the sky. The sanctum, where Lord Ranganatha rests in reclining posture, radiates divinity and peace. The temple is beautifully maintained, and despite being a large complex, it is well organized for devotees and visitors. Festivals like Vaikunta Ekadasi here are world-famous and attract lakhs of devotees. Walking inside feels like stepping back in time — every carving, pillar, and mandapam tells a story of devotion, art, and heritage. A must-visit for anyone coming to Tamil Nadu, whether for faith, history, or architecture.

Vayalur Arulmigu Murugan Saamy Temple in Tiruchirappalli is a Hindu temple dating back to the 9th century, featuring intricate exterior stone carvings and scenic surroundings. The city of Tiruchirappalli is known for its numerous religious sites, drawing devotees on memorable pilgrimage tours.
This ancient temple is located around 12 Kms from the Central Bus stand and has been sung by Arunagirinathar in his Thirupugazh hymns, and popularized much by late Shri Kripananda Variar. Though popularized as Subramany Temple, Moolavar is Aadhi Nathar (Agneeswarar) with consort Aadhi Nayaki and the temple is believed to be the place where Lord Subramanya worshipped Shiva. The temple is more than 12 centuries old and you find it mostly crowded on Tuesdays and festival days pertaining to Lord Subramanya.

Vayalur Arulmigu Murugan temple is situated at Vayalur village. It is 10 kms from Central bus stand Tiruchirapalli on the Vayalur Road. Recently the temple was renovated and kumbabishekam performed. Lord Adhinathar Sivan and Adhinayaki Parvathy are the main deities deities deities here. Lord Murugan along with Theivayanai and Valli is blessing the devotees from the back side Lord Siva. The crowd was normal on week days. Within 10 minutes we have dharshan of Lord Muruga. There are town buses frequently from Central bus stand and Chathiram bus stand. The Vayalur Road is very much congested always. Those who are coming by vehicles take extra care. You feel pleasant at the temple as the environment is very nice.

Very nice and peaceful temple. Archanai plate is available just outside the temple premises. One Archanai plate cost is INR. 60 only. Very good to visit during morning and evening.
Gokulakrishnan S — Google review
A divine destination known for its spiritual energy and historic significance. The temple, deeply connected to Arunagirinathar's hymns, beautifully narrates the story of Murugan’s marriage to Valli The peaceful ambiance makes it ideal for meditation and prayers. The recent renovation has enhanced its beauty, but better maintenance near the pond area would improve the experience Devotees often recall Kirupanandha Variyar’s inspiring discourses here, adding to its cultural richness. A must visit for those seeking blessings and a glimpse into Tamil heritage.

I recently visited the Vayalur Murugan Temple in Tiruchirappalli, and it was a spiritually enriching experience. The temple, dating back over 1,200 years to the Chola dynasty, is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Murugan and is renowned for its serene ambiance and historical significance

Visited Vayalur Murugan temple on 15th Aug, 2025. Such a peaceful darshan of lord murugan. There was not much wait or anything. Just went in and had a great darshan. Do visit this temple if you get a chance.
Shiva S — Google review
The Arulmigu Vayalur Murugan Temple is dedicated to Lord Murugan, the son of Shiva and Parvati. The temple's origins trace back to the 9th century during the reign of the Medieval Cholas, making it over 1,200 years old. Epigraphical evidence and numerous inscriptions on the temple walls confirm that several Chola kings, including Paranthagan I, Raja Raja Chozhan I, Rajendra Chozhan I, and Kulothunga Chola I, contributed to its development and endowed it with royal gifts and land grants. The temple was originally constructed as a Shiva temple in the Chola architectural style, with separate shrines for various deities. Legends and Etymology According to legend, a Chola king, while hunting, sought water and attempted to drink juice from a sugarcane in the area. To his astonishment, the sugarcane broke into three and began to bleed. Digging the spot, he discovered a Shiva lingam and subsequently built a temple at that very location. The area, surrounded by fertile fields (vayal in Tamil), came to be known as Vayalur, meaning "the place of fields".
Neha A — Google review
Vayalur Murugan Temple is located 11 kms from Trichy. The Temple is built Cholas during the 9th century. The presiding deity is Shiva on the form of Aadinayhar and his consort Aadinayagi. The five tired Rajagopuram is a modern addition. Arunagirinathar, a noted Tamil poet, visited Vayalur and sung 18 songs praising about Murugan in Thirupugal. We can have positive vibrations. Renovation works is going on.

Rock Fort, located in Tiruchirappalli, is a temple complex that sits atop a 273-foot-tall rock outcrop. The complex houses the renowned Uchchippillaiyaar Temple and the Thayumana Swamy Temple. This ancient site dates back to the Pallavas and Pandyas era and boasts a rich history of over 3.8 billion years.
One of the best temples in Tamilnadu, the land of temples. It is a mesmerising multi storied temple (only one in India) completely built by rocks. The temple architecture is best of its kind. Temples are dedicated to Lord shiva. At the top of the hill there is a ganesha temple which you should never miss. If you are Thiruchinapalli , pls do visit this temple. It need about 2 hours. The fort temple has about 350-400 steps for climbing.
Subramanya P — Google review
⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4 stars) Tiruchirappalli Rock Fort, or Malaikottai, is a truly impressive landmark and a must-visit if you're in Trichy. The sheer age of the rock formation itself (3.8 billion years!) is mind-boggling, and the fort and temple complex built upon it adds layers of historical and cultural significance. I particularly enjoyed the climb up to the Ucchi Pillayar Temple. While the 400 steps are a bit of a trek, especially in the heat, the panoramic views of the city and the Kaveri River from the top are absolutely worth it. It's a great experience, and the temple itself is beautiful (remember, only Hindus are allowed entry to the main sanctum). Be prepared to remove your shoes for the climb and respect the photography restrictions. The Thayumanaswami Temple at the base of the rock is also worth exploring, showcasing the different architectural styles that have influenced the fort over the centuries. The blend of Pallava, Chola, Vijayanagara, Nayak, and even British influences is fascinating. A couple of things to note: The climb can be challenging for some, so wear comfortable shoes (that you don't mind removing) and bring water. Also, be mindful of the crowds, especially during peak hours and festival times. Overall, the Rock Fort is a fantastic experience, offering a glimpse into the rich history and culture of the region.

A must-visit if you’re in Trichy. The structure houses several temples. including a famous Ganesha on top of the hill . The steps can be a bit steep, so take breaks as you climb.

Rock Fort Temple I visited the Rock Fort Temple in Trichy on a calm morning during Navarathri, and it was such a refreshing experience. The temple is perched on an ancient rock, and though you do need to climb up quite a few stairs, it’s not as hard as it looks, and the views along the way make it totally worth it. Once you reach the top, you’re greeted with an amazing view of the entire city—it’s like you can see all of Trichy from up there, which adds to the temple’s charm. Despite being a busy festive season, the temple was really well maintained. The cleanliness and care put into preserving the space made it feel peaceful. There’s something about being in such a spiritual place early in the day, especially during Navarathri, that just felt special. If you’re in Trichy, the Rock Fort Temple is definitely a place you shouldn’t miss. Whether you’re looking for a spiritual moment or just want to enjoy the views, it’s a must-visit spot.

Malai kottai, challenging to climb up and down. Good view from the top. Shoes to be removed but no safe place. Please use advanced technologies to improve facilities and help all people to access it.

This big rock in the middle of the city is one of Trichy's top attractions. You need to climb about 400 steps to reach the top, but it's worth it for the amazing views of the whole city. The rock has a long history - it was important during wars hundreds of years ago. Now, there are temples built into the rock. The most famous ones are for Lord Ganesha at the top and Lord Shiva halfway up. Even if you're not religious, it's a great place to see the city from above and take good photos. The climb might make you a little tired, but the cool breeze at the top feels great!
Shar A — Google review
It is having Lord Ganpati temple. It has 400steps to climb to reach at top of the hill to ganpati mandir. 80% steps are underground & 20% steps are open near the hill top. The view from top of hill is amazing. Try going early morning. Timing of temple is from 06:00am to 08:00pm. Photographs of lord ganpati are not allowed. Outside photography allowed. Carry water alongwith. Avoid going during hot afternoon.

The Tiruchirappalli Rail Museum and Heritage Center, inaugurated in 2014, is a tribute to the Southern Indian Railway Company's history. It showcases over 400 artifacts and 200 photos from the company's early days. The museum was part of the South Indian Railways' 150th Sesquicentennial celebration and opened to the public in 2015 due to fund constraints.
A hidden gem nestled in the heart of Trichy, the Tiruchirappalli Rail Museum and Heritage Centre is a must-visit destination for anyone fascinated by railways, history, or vintage charm. This thoughtfully curated museum takes you on a captivating journey through the evolution of the South Indian Railways, featuring a remarkable collection of artifacts, rare photographs, stamps, age-old machinery, and intricate miniature models. One of the standout attractions is the majestic old steam locomotive—an awe-inspiring engineering marvel from a bygone era. Nearby, a beautifully preserved vintage fire engine evokes the early days of railway safety and emergency response, adding to the museum’s nostalgic appeal. The museum also displays a wide array of heritage items including antique signaling equipment, uniforms, tools, archival documents, and period furniture that offer a window into the operational history of railways in South India over the past century. Each section is rich in stories, helping visitors appreciate the role of railways in shaping the region’s social and economic landscape. Adding a touch of fun for all ages, a toy train ride is available on the premises, offering a delightful experience especially for children. A special highlight of my visit was purchasing the book Marvels of the South Indian Railway 1859–1951—a fascinating and well-researched read. Highly recommended for families, history buffs, and train lovers!

It's a best place to show your kids how railways started and reached to this place. They had several old machineries and small equpments used by railways in those olden days. The Tiruchirappalli Rail Museum & Heritage Centre is a well-regarded, family-friendly destination with an average rating of about 4.3/5. Visitors appreciate the affordable entry fee (typically around ₹10 for adults) and the well-maintained collection of vintage railway artifacts. The museum showcases the history of the erstwhile South Indian Railway through both indoor and outdoor exhibits. Indoor sections display rare photographs, documents, and unique artifacts from the British Raj, such as old lamps, clocks, and staff badges. It features pointed arches, tall spires, stained glass windows, and approximately 120 small turrets. The main tower stands 220 feet tall and dominates the skyline of Trichy. Connection to St. Joseph's College: The church is situated on the campus of St. Joseph’s College Higher Secondary School, founded by Jesuits. It has historically served both the educational community and the general public. Current Status: The church remains fully functional and is an active parish of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Trichy. It hosts daily masses, special festivals, and large gatherings during the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes in February. The church attracts thousands of pilgrims annually, including visitors from across India and abroad. It is considered a heritage structure and is maintained with respect to its historical and spiritual value.

St. Lourdes Church in Trichy is one of the most beautiful landmarks in the city, standing tall with its stunning Gothic-style architecture. The illuminated red cross on the steeple at night is a sight you can’t miss, and the entire church gives a serene and majestic feel. Inside, the atmosphere is peaceful and prayerful, making it a perfect place for quiet reflection away from the city’s hustle. The detailing on the walls and windows shows incredible craftsmanship, and the church has been a symbol of faith for generations in Trichy. Whether you are a devotee or just a traveler, it’s a must-visit for its spiritual and historical

The planetarium offers shows in Tamil and English, featuring Japanese laser technology and now newly constructed LED panels with 5.1 surround sound and France 4K digital technology. The capacity has increased to accommodate up to 90 people.
Went with my sister sons and had a memorable time in the Planetarium, the show, ac, sofa chair were world class. Everyone will enjoy that show, especially the children less than 14yrs. The 3D show is very normal, play areas were all damaged and needs make over. Trichy has a good educational experience in the Planetarium show.

English show at 11.30 am Tamil show at 1.00 pm. Head ache 3D show. Worst ever experience. Broken glasses are given. Sky theatre is somewhat good. Children play area, dinosaur park are just for namesake. One of the worst maintained areas of Trichy. You can plan for two hours here including showtime. The out side science park & dinosaur parks need good maintenance… The place is for the moment famous for the planetarium 🪐 shows & 3D show.. there are four shows in Tamil & two shows in english(11:45 & 2:15) around 4:30 is the last show as per schedule. But to be noted is if any college students batches come the show timing changes which we learnt today. We can join any batch based on seat availability.

Easy Accesible location, Affordable rates. Rs 45only for entrance fee, 3d show and planet show. But the overall area is poorly maintained with no modern installations. All exhibits are damaged and even unable to understand.

Maintenance is too bad. The theatre and shows needs upgrade. Planetarium Show: High valued projector is used in planetarium. The show about planets in solar system is good. The sky affect is awesome. The Story narration should consider viewer experience. Any story narration will be driven by audio and video together. But here it is driven by audio with slide shows on various planets. Audio and video can sync provide good experience. It is missing now. The animation part needs an upgrade. Can't NIT members helps on this? 3D Theatre: The 3D show starts with roller coaster ride followed by Horror Story. Somehow it is not on par with the show provided in private theatres (within shopping mall) . This theatre surely needs to be upgraded. Parks in Planetarium: 1) Half of "Evolution park" is submerged in water. Not sure fishing activity is allowed :) 2) Environment Gallery ground floor is in water. So they switched off the power. Though it has good information, we couldn't enjoy much. 3) Herbal park maintenance is very poor. We don't see much herbal plants over there. 4) Science Park maintenance is poor. Government after spending several crores/lakhs of rupees in this initiative not sure why it is failed in maintenance. The prevailing poor maintenance brings up question on did planetarium officials are really sincere at their work? Do they really care about their working environment and quality of work? It is a great disappointment on that day. <b>Anna planetarium in trichy surely needs government attention.</b>

Nestled in Trichy, the Varahi Amman Temple is a unique spiritual haven that offers a glimpse into local devotion. This private temple, managed by an elderly priest who resides nearby, opens its doors only during worship hours. While visitors can admire the deity from outside at other times, the atmosphere remains imbued with positive energy and reverence.

Worst experience we've experienced in a temple so far till date.😭 When we came to worship God with so many problems, we felt Vexed for visiting this temple with such a mannerless priest.😖 He doesn't know how to behave or how to speak even with ladies and kids politely in low tone, even if they have visited first time, they might not know the rules and regulations he has kept, he should have said in gentle manner or as an advice instructions without shouting. Owning maintaining a temple or old age is not an excuse for indecent behaviour & degrading words. Whatever worships or prayers, rituals he does will not wash his ruthless sins & cheap character. His words & gestures are so demeaning to make someone sensitive to attempt suicide. The priest Rajbhupathy is unfit for this temple, he is inhuman and arrogant like a rowdy fellow. This rude and Harsh priest has insulted and humiliated my sister who's a government officer, in front of everyone public. She didn't sleep or eat the whole two nights crying for few days with broken heart 💔 after being mistreated by the priest. She was carrying a kid and was praying Amman by serving flowers, the priest roughly grabbed the flower and throwed on the floor saying" enga yellamo oora sutthitu inga vandhu ullara poo poduriya, arivilla, kannu theriyala, inum ulla poyi karuvarai kulla poyi podu po, "like that he shouted and treated like a dog, as if a slave. He is also a senseless casteist fellow speaking derogatory words to ladies. We were shocked and she got severely hurt with teary eyes carrying her infant kid. We felt ashamed to be there, the priest verbally abused, insulted and humiliated my sister. He has to answer for this. We have complained to take action on him for verbally abusing a lady government officer. He is a shame and he is a sin for maintaining that temple and god, God will surely punish him for his behaviour and unparlimentary words towards ladies and kids. Karma will hit him. Even if God is blind to him, law and order, higher officials will question him by making him suffer, will surely punish him and his family. Will not leave him casually. The trauma and damages he has caused us is too much. He is not aware of the intense pain he has caused. The inhuman priest is a heartless animal in disguise. All the teary eyed curses will destroy him soon. I swear this on the god he worships.🙏🏻🙏🏻

I agree with most of the people's review. The priest is a bit rude!! People travel from different places to Trichy and they wish to visit the place. They will have different beliefs, the beliefs of the devotees can be wrong, at-least if the priest corrects them in a good tone then they will have a pleasant worship. If the priest itself is rude then what kind of worship would the devotee do??

Dear all, it's a private temple, the priest is the owner and its attached to his house. It's open only when the priest worship varahi amma. During other hours you can worship and see amma from gate. I liked the temple. Nobody should get angry on priest for his rude behavior if u feel. He is aged and to my experience he is not rude. In short temple has good vibes with limited public access entry. Jai Varahi Amman

Temple was good. Since this was the first time we forgot to take the plate to keep things for Archanai. For that priest was telling negative things to us. Since we all go to temple for positive vibes but the priest is against. Even for lighting the aradhanai his hands are shaking and the ghee from hand is falling down he is not even noticing that we had a bad experience from priest

St. John De Britto Church is a charming 19th-century church located within the school campus, featuring original-period shuttered doors and a bright white exterior. The church offers services in both Tamil and English and has ample parking space available. It is easily accessible despite being situated on a narrow street, with plenty of open space in the front. Additionally, it holds sentimental value for many who completed their primary education at the associated school.

Arulmigu Jambukeswarar Akilandeswari Temple, also known as Thiruvanaikoil Temple, is a historic Shiva temple complex in Trichy. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva and features elaborate interior columns and a sprawling outer wall. The temple worships Meenakshi, another form of Goddess Parvati, and Lord Sundareshwarar.
🛕 Jambukeshwarar Temple (Thiruvanaikaval) Also known as Thiruvanaikaval Temple, this ancient shrine is located just 2 km from the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, on the same Srirangam island. 🌿 Main Deities Lord Jambukeshwarar (Shiva) — worshipped here as an embodiment of the Water (Neer) element, one of the five Pancha Bhoota Lingas. Goddess Akhilandeshwari (Parvati) — consort of Lord Shiva, residing in her own separate shrine within the same complex. 🔱 Spiritual Significance It represents the "Neer (Water) Tatva" among the Pancha Bhoota Stalams (temples representing five natural elements): 1. Earth (Prithvi) – Ekambareswarar Temple (Kanchipuram) 2. Water (Appu) – Jambukeshwarar Temple (Srirangam/Thiruvanaikaval) 3. Fire (Agni) – Arunachaleswarar Temple (Tiruvannamalai) 4. Air (Vayu) – Srikalahasti Temple 5. Sky (Akasha) – Chidambaram Natarajar Temple Inside the sanctum, water constantly springs up around the Shiva Linga, symbolizing the element of water — a rare and divine feature. 🕉️ Legend (Purana) According to legend: Goddess Parvati, as Akhilandeshwari, performed severe penance here under the instruction of Lord Shiva, worshipping a Linga made of water (Appu Linga). Pleased by her devotion, Shiva appeared and taught her spiritual wisdom. The temple hence symbolizes the Guru–Shishya (Teacher–Disciple) relationship between Shiva and Parvati. 🏛️ Architecture Built in Dravidian style by the Early Cholas (around 2nd century CE), later expanded by Pandya and Nayaka kings. The temple has 5 enclosures (Prakarams) and majestic Gopurams (towers). The Akhilandeshwari shrine has exquisite decorations and the goddess’s earrings are said to be changed twice a year during special rituals. 📅 Temple Timings Morning: 5:30 AM – 12:00 PM Evening: 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM (Timings can vary during festivals.) 🎉 Important Festivals Panguni Brahmotsavam (March–April) Aadi Pooram (Goddess Akhilandeshwari’s special day) Navaratri celebrations are grand here. Maha Shivaratri – observed with great devotion. 🧭 How to Reach Distance: 2 km from Srirangam Temple, 8 km from Trichy Junction. Easily reachable by auto-rickshaw, local bus, or taxi. Nearest Airport: Tiruchirappalli (about 12 km). 🌸 Special Highlights The Akhilandeshwari idol is said to radiate immense energy. To soften it, Sri Adi Shankaracharya installed two Sri Chakra Yantras (one in each ear) and designed her beautiful Thadanga (ear ornaments). The temple is serene, with sacred ponds and beautiful stone carvings.

This temple in Srirangam is around 2 kms from the more famous Ranganatha temple. It is dedicated to Jambukeshwarar (Shiva) and Akhilandeswari (Parvathi). Legend has it that Parvathi prayed in the Jambu forrest and created a lingam made of water from Kaveri river. This temple is one of the pancha bhoota sthalams, signifying water as its element. As one enters one of the gopurams, one gets the feeling that the temple is relatively small with an open space, pond and gardens. When one goes further inside, the massive enclosure in which the temple stands reveals itself. The precincts are beautiful, some of them with many ornate pillars. The sanctum of the temple is dedicated to Lord Jambukeshwarar and is a small space where not more than 5 people can stand at a time. It is a beautiful structure and a must visit for anyone visiting Srirangam/Trichy along with the Ranganatha temple. We did not see any designated parking around the temple and had to park on one of the lanes in the vicinity.

Divine Evening Visit to Jambukeshwara Temple We visited the Jambukeshwara Temple in the evening, and it was a serene and peaceful experience. This temple represents the Jala Lingam (water element) among the five Panchabootha Lingas, and it was our final stop to complete the sacred journey of all five. The temple’s architecture is beautiful, and the spiritual energy inside is truly calming. The approach roads are quite narrow, but there is sufficient parking space near the temple. Inside, we were delighted to see the temple elephant, which added to the traditional and sacred atmosphere. The priests were polite and helpful, and the overall experience was memorable and spiritually fulfilling — highly recommended for anyone visiting Trichy!

Visiting the Jambukeswarar Temple in Trichy was a peaceful and grounding experience. The quiet atmosphere, the sound of flowing water near the sanctum, and the ancient stone architecture made me feel connected to something timeless. I was especially moved by the story of the goddess worshipping Lord Shiva—there’s a calm, almost meditative energy there. It’s a place that stays with you. The santity left me with a sense of inner peace and awe for the depth of South Indian temple traditions. It’s a must-visit for anyone interested in spirituality, history, or architecture. I found the temple to be not just a religious site, but a space where history, mythology, and spiritual energy merge.

🕉️ Jambukeswarar Temple: A Brief History The Jambukeswarar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva in the form of Appu Lingam (Water Lingam), is one of the famous Pancha Bhoota Stalas, representing the water element. It was built in the early 2nd century CE by Kochengat Chola, a Chola king. The temple is also renowned for its goddess Akhilandeswari shrine. Its name, Jambukeswarar, comes from the legend that a saintly elephant (Jambu) worshipped the lingam under a Venn Naaval (blackberry) tree, giving rise to the temple's name. The temple’s architectural grandeur includes massive gopurams, five concentric enclosures (prakaram), and a sanctum always associated with an underground water stream that constantly seeps around the lingam, symbolizing its water element. 🕰️ Jambukeswarar Temple Timings (2024–2025) SessionTimingsMorning5:30 AM – 12:00 NoonBreak12:00 Noon – 4:00 PM (closed)Evening4:00 PM – 9:00 PM Note: On special days or festivals, timings may extend. 📅 Best Days & Times to Visit with Less Crowd ✅ Weekdays (Monday to Friday) are ideal — especially Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, as local devotees tend to visit more on Fridays and weekends. ✅ Early morning hours (5:30 AM – 7:30 AM) see very few crowds, allowing peaceful darshan. ✅ Avoid festival days like Panguni Brahmotsavam (March–April), Mahashivaratri, and Fridays if you want a calm experience. ✅ During Tamil Margazhi month (mid-Dec to mid-Jan), mornings can be a bit crowded, so late morning (10:30–11:30 AM) on weekdays is better.

Sathiya S — Google review
This temple, located in the town now known as Thiruverumpur, on the Trichy-Thanjore route, about 14 km from Trichy, is the seventh of the South Cauvery Thevara Sthalams (SC07). This ancient and beautiful temple is situated on a hillock and is under the control of the archaeological research team. One has to climb about 125 steps to see the anthill. Except on special days, one can have a solitary darshan on other days. Another Thevaram temple, Nedungulam, is about four to five km away from here. There is a direct bus facility from the Trichy Junction bus stand. As per the legend, when the Devas appealed to Brahma to destroy the demon Tarakasuran, He asked them to reach the Lord who had risen in this temple as Swayambu, and the Devas climbed the hill in the form of an anthill so they would not be visible to the eyes of the Asura. However, when they reached the Lingam and tried to worship it in the form of an ant, carrying flowers, they could not climb on the smooth Lingam, so the Lord not only changed his form to that of a turtle, but also leaned slightly so that the ant-shaped Devas could climb on the Lingam and garland Him with the flowers they had brought. Due to this, the Lord here came to be called Erumbeesan (Lord of Ants) and the Thiru Erumpiyur (Village of Ants), which, with the passage of time, came to be called Tiruverumbur. It is said that even today, during the puja time, ants line up in rows to enter the sanctum sanctorum and take the offerings. Many other names are given to this temple in the Puranas, such as Pipliicharam, Manikudam, Rattinakudam, Thiruverumpipuram, Erumpeesam, Brahmapuram, Lakshmipuram, Madhuvanapuram, and Kumarapuram. This place is also called Then Kailayam. This mountain is also said to be a fragment of Mount Meru that was shattered in the contest between Adisesha and Vayu. Historically, this place was given the name Sri Kandavedi Chathurmangalam, as the Shivalinga is shaped like a mound and a valley in the shape of an ant, There is no regular abhishekam for the Lingam and only oil is applied. Also, a s a split can also be seen in the middle. The right side of the linga is believed to be the Shiva aspect and the left side is the Shakti aspect, which is celebrated as the form of Ardhanari. The Lord is called by several names, viz., Erumbeeswarar. Pippilikeswarar and Madhuvaneswarar etc. The festival is celebrated by Somaskandar. The divine name of the goddess is Narunguzhal Nayaki. She is also called Soundaranayaki, and Madhuvaneswari. The Lord, who is the embodiment of mercy and compassion, is said to be the one who bestows bliss upon the devotees who come here and pray to him. There is a story that Rati Devi, the wife of Manmadhan, came here and got rid of her pride. A speicality here is that one of the Dwarapalakas is depicted with an angry face and the other is shown calmly. This indicates that those who come here to worship will be freed from lust and hatred. Om Nama Shivaya |
Sarva B — Google review
🕉️ This ancient Shiva temple is uniquely known as “Erumbeeswarar” — derived from erumbu (ant) and Īśvara (Lord). According to legend, when the devas transformed into ants to worship Shiva and struggled to climb the slippery lingam, Shiva mercifully transformed into an anthill and tilted his head so they could reach him. The Shivlinga itself is a self‑manifested sand mound with a natural split, symbolically representing Shiva and Shakti. Erumbeeswarar Temple is a pilgrimage site etched with mythic symbolism, literary resonance, and serene hilltop atmosphere. It’s ideal for those on spiritual quests, exploring Chola heritage, or seeking solace through devotional worship. While its structural conservation merits greater attention, its sacred legacy and heartfelt devotion continue to shine through centuries.

A beautiful serene old temple situated on a rock. You can make the climb in five minutes. The steps are slightly big to step on. The way up is not covered and so it is suggested to climb early in the morning or in the evening. The board says the temple opens at 6.30 but if you are on the top at 7.30am you can have a complete darshan from the waking up of lord Shiva to the morning sarathi. The devars wanted to pray to lord Shiva. The asuras wouldn't let them pray. So all the devars were changed into ants so that they could climb and pray to lord Shiva. As ants they could only make it to the base of the shivling and so lord Shiva bent down and gave up his smooth exterior and turned into an ant hill to help his devotees come and worship him. At a distance of 4 Kms from Mangalore Railway Station, Kadri Temple is one of the famous & beautiful temples in Mangaluru. The presiding deity of the temple is Sri Manjunatha, an incarnation of Lord Shiva. It is one of the best places to visit in Mangalore. The original structure of the temple dates back to 10th century. However, the temple was convered to a stone structure in 14th century. The 1.6m tall statue of Lord Shiva made of bronze is placed in seated position with three faces and six arms. There is a natural spring on the backside of the temple, called as Gomukha. The water from this spring flows into 7 ponds of different sizes. Devotees come here and wash themselves before entering the main temple. The strange feature of this temple is that the temple tanks are placed at higher ground level compared to the central sanctum itself.

A goddess temple situated near to samayapuram main temple. Its roughly 2 kms away from samayapuram temple. The temple is a very oldest one and people used to say it was done by Chatrapathi Sivaji. He worshipped this deity when came to Tamil Nadu. A peaceful temple: Once entered the temple we feel some sort of peacefulness. While coming out our mind become.light and without any thinking. Pay a visit, enjoy and get the blessings of MahaKali.

Breakfast restaurant
Shri Sangeetas Veg is a popular restaurant that caters mainly to vegetarians, offering a wide variety of vegetarian dishes from different regions of India. The restaurant also functions as a banquet hall and is known for its excellent service and clean environment. It is particularly recommended for vegans, with must-try options including desserts and Pan Asian dishes. While the fresh juices are tasty but pricey, the menu offers an array of reasonably priced options.
I had a thoroughly satisfying lunch experience at Shri Sangeethas Veg Restaurant in Sanjeevinagar, Trichy. Their South Indian vegetarian meals are the highlight served hot and fresh with a generous spread that includes rice, sambar, rasam, kootu, poriyal, pickle, appalam, and a sweet. The food is well-balanced in flavor, not overly spicy, and tastes like comforting home-style cooking. Everything was served promptly, and the staff were polite and attentive. The hygiene standards were commendable, and the overall ambiance was pleasant and family-friendly. For anyone looking for a clean, wholesome, and flavorful vegetarian lunch in Trichy, Shri Sangeethas in Sanjeevinagar is a highly recommended stop.

I ordered a ghee roast but what I got was disappointing — it looked like a plain dosa, no cone shape, no crispness, and barely any ghee. The smell itself told me something was off. I mentioned this to the server but got no proper response. Out of curiosity (and because I was still hungry), I ordered a plain dosa just to see the difference — and honestly, there was none. I brought this up again with the cashier while billing, but once more, no real response or concern. Both food and service left a bad impression. Definitely not the experience I hoped for. Not recommended.

The food and service at this busy restaurant used to be very good. Ac hall is in First Floor. Firstly a very big name in the city so made our visit with huge expectation and the crowd and long wait to get our seat over 30 mins made us to expect more. We tried special veg meals it tasted good. Other than that roti, butter roti was good the gravy we ordered kaju masala wasn't sweet it was spicy the gravy base looks to be common here so it didn't satisfy us also ordered Gobi 65 it was too salty, butterfly mushroom was ordered but got only Gobi again instead of mushroom, apart from this tried mushroom Kaima parotta it was okayish and fried rice we tried seems to be pepper rice and not fried rice overall a very disappointing outing for us. Parking plentily available here. They defenitely need to work on their tastes and special items whichever they have advertised mostly is not available they also need to take note of it which actually offends us as there is more Tanglers and displays showing it when we ask lunch items too it is not available that's not good. Defenitely need to improve.

The temple is known for its Kerala-themed architecture and strict adherence to dress code and rules within the premises. Devotees are not allowed to use mobile phones or cameras inside. A divine space filled with silence and serenity, perfect for peaceful prayers. Strict dress code is followed to avoid jeans, leggings, and ensure a dupatta for traditional wear Mobile phones are restricted inside, making it ideal for undisturbed devotion. More seating near the sanctum would be helpful

Most peaceful place to ever to be visited. I visited the place right on the day of kaarthigai Deepam 2024 on a Friday midst the cloudy day with drizzles then and there. The whole place didn’t give a feel of I’m in one of the big cities with too many people rather just gave a serene peace and thoughtfulness with all the chanting and silence. Mobile phones aren’t allowed with respect to any modes(no calls, no photos, no videos). The staff was good but they first had a thing when I was on call entering the temple without knowing the no phone rule by later on everything where chill. Make sure you visit this place atleast once.

Amma Mandapam is a bathing ghat located on the Kaveri River near Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple. It's a bustling spot where devotees take purifying dips, perform rituals, and pay homage to their ancestors. Many locals also use the water for washing clothes. However, there are concerns about cleanliness and water availability at the complex. Suggestions have been made to ensure perennial water supply and establish a separate complex for Punya rituals downstream.
As a woman I had lot of doubts and hesitation before going. There are seperate toilets and clothes changing rooms for women . We Had a satisfied holy dip in the holy River. Perched atop a massive rock, Uchi Pillaiyar Temple is a 7th-century Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Ganesh, offering breathtaking panoramic views of Trichy. The temple, also known as Rock Fort Temple, was strategically utilized by the Nayaks and requires climbing over 400 stone-cut steps to reach the top. Within its premises are Manikya Vinayagar and Thayumanavar temples. It is believed that seeking blessings here may be fruitful for those longing for children.
I visited Ucchi Pillaiyar Temple in Trichy, and I really loved it. The temple is small, but it's on top of a big rock—you have to climb around 400 steps. The climb felt a little tiring, but the cool wind and amazing view made it worth it. From the top, I saw the whole city, the river, and even the sunset. It felt peaceful and beautiful. Inside the temple, everything was calm, and I felt very happy and blessed. If you go in the morning or evening, it’s easier and not too hot. It’s a great place for both devotion and adventure. Simple, clean, and full of positive vibes.

The Rockfort Temple, or Ucchi Pillaiyar Kovil, is the most famous landmark of Tiruchirappalli. The present temple complex is called a "rockfort" because this huge natural rock outcrop was extensively used for military fortifications, first by the Vijayanagara Empire and later by the British Empire during the Carnatic Wars. Later, this strategically important rock was further carved to make huge hallways and developed into a temple complex by various dynasties, This 275 m high rock is in the heart of the city. The peak nestles the Siva temple which is reached by climbing a flight of 437 steps, 8-12 inches steps cut unevenly into the rock. Sri Thayumanaswamy Temple is halfway up with a 100 pillared hall, and a Vimana. There are Tamil inscriptions on the rocks and temple walls that dated back to the 3rd century B.C. Reaching the summit I got a spectacular view of the city. One can easily spot the city's important landmarks, like the gopurams of Sriranga Swamy temple, Cauvery River, Coleroon River, bridges, Thiruvanaikal Kovil or Jambukeshwar temple. This climb is rewarding in many ways, and thereby, makes people happy with different interests.

Perched atop the majestic Rock Fort in Tiruchirappalli, the Arulmigu Uchi Pillaiyar Temple is a blend of devotion, history, and panoramic beauty. Dedicated to Lord Ganesha, this ancient temple sits proudly at the summit of an 83-meter-high rock believed to be over 3.8 billion years old—one of the oldest geological formations in the world. Climbing the 400-odd rock-cut steps is an experience in itself. Each step offers breathtaking views of Trichy’s bustling streets, the sacred Cauvery River, and the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in the distance. The gentle hum of prayers, the cool breeze brushing your face, and the rhythmic sound of temple bells create an atmosphere of pure tranquility and reverence. The temple’s simple Dravidian architecture complements its spiritual charm. Inside, Lord Ganesha sits gracefully, believed to grant wisdom and remove obstacles for all who seek his blessings. Sunset is truly magical here—the city glows beneath you, and faith feels almost tangible in the golden light. Whether you’re a pilgrim, a photographer, or an explorer of heritage, Uchi Pillaiyar Temple promises a soul-stirring experience. It’s not just a temple—it’s a journey to the top, both physically and spiritually.

Good for having a beautiful 360° view of Trichy and the stretch of Kaveri to the horizon. The route shown in the maps, although it takes you to the right place, the road is a bit congested. I managed to drive Fortuner in and out, but I visited and left the place before 7. I don't think it's a good idea to take your 4wheeler during the daytime. Also there was no designated parking area. Almost 500 steps to climb up, to reach the temple. You can see the whole city once you reach the temple at the top. There are other temples to cover while you are going uphill. Best time to visit is early morning, to watch the sunrise. Take your binoculars for a great experience.

🛕 Uchi Pillaiyar Temple (உச்சி பிள்ளையார் கோவில்) 📍 Location Situated on the Rockfort Hill (Malaikottai) in Trichy city, Tamil Nadu. The temple sits at the summit of a 273-foot (83-meter) high ancient rock — one of the oldest rocks in the world, estimated to be over 3.8 billion years old! 🐘 Main Deity Lord Ganesha (Vinayaka) – worshipped here as Uchi Pillaiyar, meaning “Pillaiyar at the top (Uchi) of the hill.” This is one of the most famous Ganesha temples in South India. 🌄 Temple Structure You need to climb around 417 steps (some sources say 400–430) cut into the rock to reach the top. The steps are clean, well-maintained, and lined with small shrines and viewpoints. The view from the top is breathtaking — you can see the Cauvery River, Srirangam Temple, and Trichy city spread out below. 📜 Legend / Mythology The temple is connected to the epic Ramayana: After Ravana’s brother Vibheeshana helped Lord Rama in the war, Rama gifted him the Sri Ranganatha idol to take to Lanka. On his way, Vibheeshana stopped near Trichy to rest. Lord Ganesha, disguised as a small boy, placed the idol on the ground and disappeared — making it impossible for Vibheeshana to lift it again. That spot became Srirangam, where the Ranganathaswamy Temple now stands. When Vibheeshana realized he was tricked, he chased Ganesha, who ran up the rock and stayed there as Uchi Pillaiyar. 🕉️ Speciality The temple offers both spiritual peace and scenic beauty. Devotees believe praying here removes obstacles and grants success (as Ganesha is Vighneshwara – remover of obstacles). 🕒 Temple Timings Morning: 6:00 AM – 12:00 PM Evening: 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM (Timings may vary slightly on festival days.) 🎉 Major Festivals Vinayaka Chaturthi – grandly celebrated with special poojas and thousands of devotees climbing the hill. Karthigai Deepam and Panguni Uthiram are also important. 🚗 How to Reach Located right in Trichy city, about: 5 km from Trichy Junction railway station. 8 km from Srirangam Temple. Easily reachable by auto, cab, or local bus. Car parking available near the base of the rock. 🌅 Visitor Tips Try to visit early morning or evening (to avoid heat). Wear comfortable footwear (you’ll have to remove them before the climb). The top offers a 360° panoramic view — great spot for sunrise or sunset.

Constructed during 1569 A.D., this mandapam boasts an impressive array of intricately carved stone pillars. While the actual count of pillars may vary, it serves as a gathering place for devotees and hosts various rituals and ceremonies.

A massive granite hall constructed by Tirumangai Mannan and supported by 1000 pillars is another feature of the temple complex. The Aaiyaram Kaal Mandapam is its name (hall with a 1000 pillars). Keep in mind, though, that there are actually only 953 pillars in the hall. Each enormous pillar is an example of magnificent Dravidian sculpture made from a massive single piece of granite that has been beautifully carved with pictures of ferocious riders on rearing horses crashing down and trampling rampaging tigers. These pillars also feature elaborately carved representations of Lord Vishnu’s 12 incarnations. Not only are the pillars sturdy supports, but they are also marvels of Indian architecture.

Our church is awesome. Here, always the young talents are recognized. Every member of the congregation is so kind to everyone and does all the activities willingly. We have a decent worship here (Not like the ones shown on televisions). Every Sunday, service will be telecasted live at the website. Make sure you visit and praise His Holy name.

Not sure why there is a separate post for the entrance to the Rock fort or Ganesha or Vinayaka Temple. But if you reach here you can start the climb to the top to catch a glimpse of the awesome view and the temple at the top. It’s amazing!! Please search Rock fort and read the review in detail.

After reaching the place, we came to know that the Vinayagar temple on the hill top and can be reached by climbing 470 steps. The riser of the steps is right to nine inches. Having tired a lot, we had the darshan of the Ganapati at the entrance. Many even aged also climbing quite good things. From the entrance tower itself one can feel the divine environment though in a crowded market street.
