Seafood market
Market
Karato Fish Market is a bustling hub with numerous vendors offering sashimi, sushi, and other prepared foods. What sets it apart from other fish markets in Japan is its abundance of fugu, also known as pufferfish. The market is heavily regulated for the preparation of fugu, requiring chefs to undergo extensive training before serving it. Located along Route 9, visitors can explore a wide variety of seafood at the market, including whale meat in nearby restaurants.
Nice place to opt for sashimi and other seafood meal. All freshly prepared. Very busy place and prices are reasonable i guess. After you bought your food, benches are available outside the fish market for you to.sit and enjoy your seafood meal. There are shops and convenience store nearby too. Ice cream vendors are available too.

An unexpected lunch date to this fish market. If you love sushi, this is a place to go. So many stalls offering fresh sushi of different types. Some offer treys to let you pick and choose, while other do it for you and some specialize in a specific fish. We waited in one queue for about 10 minutes or so for the tuna specials. Mmmmm sooooo good! So hard to decide and it’s all in your face…LOVE IT! And if you’re worried that this market has the “fishy smell” don’t even. I was fine being in there and didn’t have that stink that many other markets in other Asian countries have. This is a more local touristy spot, which is great because you don’t have those big city crowds. I’d go back if I can! YUM!🍣🍱🐟🐠🍤🐡🎏

If you’re visiting Shimonoseki, Karato Market is definitely a must-see spot.
Fresh and delicious sushi is waiting for you inside. For those arriving by ferry, you can easily hop on a bus or taxi (or even walk, since it’s not too far). But if you’re driving, be prepared—parking can be a bit of a hassle, especially on sunny days when the wait time tends to get long. Most people enjoy their food in the open area right next to the market, but recently they’ve opened a dining space on the second floor. There’s a small fee (I believe it was about 300 yen per person), but on a hot day with nowhere to sit, it’s a very welcome option. Grab some tasty sushi, relax, and take in the view of the peaceful blue sea—you’ll really feel the charm of Shimonoseki!

Karato Fish Market in Shimonoseki is a lively waterfront market famous for super-fresh seafood, especially blowfish (fugu). On weekends and holidays, stalls sell sushi, sashimi, and seafood bowls at affordable prices, making it popular with both locals and visitors. You can buy your food, then enjoy it outside while overlooking the Kanmon Strait. It’s a great spot to taste fresh Japanese seafood in a casual atmosphere.

🐟 Karato Fish Market (Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi) Review Karato Fish Market is one of the liveliest and most enjoyable seafood markets in western Japan. Located right by the sea in Shimonoseki, it offers visitors a vibrant atmosphere filled with the sights, sounds, and smells of fresh seafood. Every morning, local fishermen and vendors display an incredible variety of freshly caught fish and shellfish. The highlight for most visitors is the weekend sushi market, where dozens of stalls sell beautifully prepared sushi, sashimi, and seafood rice bowls at very reasonable prices. You can walk along the pier with a tray of fresh sushi while enjoying the sea breeze and view of the Kanmon Strait — a truly local experience. The market staff are friendly and energetic, happy to explain the different types of fish and preparation styles. There are also souvenir shops and small restaurants nearby where you can try blowfish (fugu), the specialty of Shimonoseki. The area around the market is clean, lively, and easy to explore. It’s best to visit in the morning (around 8–10 a.m.) when the selection is at its peak. Overall, Karato Fish Market is a must-visit for seafood lovers — a place where you can enjoy delicious, affordable sushi, learn about Japan’s fishing culture, and feel the authentic spirit of a coastal city.

If your looking for a Family tour place, you got the right place. Drink and eat 1-2dollar sushi! You can buy cold sake at the sake shop in the right corner.eat the sushi at the bench out side. Abalone sashimi is Great too.

If you’re visiting Mojiko, take the ferry across to Shimonoseki on Honshu, where you’ll find the famous Karato Fish Market—a popular spot among tourists. The market is especially known for selling sushi and is only open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. You can buy sushi inside and then enjoy it outside at the many seating areas while taking in the ocean view. The market’s signature specialty is fugu (pufferfish), served as both sushi and sashimi. In fact, the pufferfish is even the symbol of the market. The sushi here is quite affordable, with plenty of vendors to choose from. The taste is pretty good too—not bad at all. The fugu, in particular, has a unique texture: it leaves a slight numbness on your tongue, but it’s delicious.
Busher P — Google review
We went crazy in this market. Great fresh sushi and sashimi with great value. This market is famous for puffer fish and whale. My first experience with whale sushi, it was wild. 22 pieces of sushi with toro, hamachi, eel, sardine, whale with a place of toro and a puffer fish sashimi for below ¥10,000. You can sit and eat by the sea.

Bridge
Sights & Landmarks
Kanmon Bridge is a significant suspension bridge that links the westernmost part of Honshu, Japan, with the northernmost port of Kyushu. Completed in Showa 33, it has a total length of 780 meters and is exclusively for vehicles. Pedestrians and cyclists can use the nearby submarine tunnel to cross.
Walking from "Mojiko Station (in Kyushu)" to "Shimonoseki Station (in Honshu)" was an amazing experience! I took many photos of the beautiful "Kanmon Bridge" from various places on both the "Kyushu" and "Honshu" sides. I even had the opportunity to walk through the unique underwater "Kanmon Tunnel", which made the entire experience unforgettable! *This walk is approximately 8 km long. Along the way, there are many spots to see, visit, and enjoy; it's a fascinating discovery walk. I recommend it!

Kanmon Bridge is a bridge connecting Shimonoseki City in Yamaguchi Prefecture and Kitakyushu City in Fukuoka Prefecture. It opened on November 14, 1973, and is 1,068m long, and the height of the bridge is 61m from sea level. There are rest areas with good views on the north and south sides of the bridge.

If you are driving pass the bridge, would highly recommend to stop and enjoy the scenery land amazing architecture of the bridge. The stop area was located at Fukuoka prefecture side. Free parking are provided and there are also a restaurant to stop by.

A very beautiful place as well as surroundings. The authority always take of this places which is praiseworthy indeed.

suspension bridge that spans the Kanmon Strait, connecting the cities of Kitakyushu in Fukuoka Prefecture and Shimonoseki in Yamaguchi Prefecture. The bridge is a prominent landmark in the region and is widely regarded as one of the most impressive bridges in Japan. The bridge is approximately 1.2 kilometers long and stands at a height of 47 meters above the water. The view from the bridge is stunning, with the sparkling blue waters of the Kanmon Strait stretching out in all directions. On a clear day, you can even see as far as the island of Tsushima in the distance. One of the best ways to experience the Kanmon Bridge is by taking a leisurely drive across it. The road is smooth and well-maintained, and there are plenty of pull-off areas where you can stop and take in the view. There's also a pedestrian walkway on the bridge, which is a great option if you want to take your time and really soak in the scenery. Another popular way to experience the Kanmon Bridge is by taking a boat tour that passes underneath it. This is a great way to get a different perspective on the bridge and really appreciate its scale and grandeur. Overall, I would highly recommend a visit to the Kanmon Bridge if you're in the Fukuoka or Yamaguchi area. It's a beautiful and impressive structure that's definitely worth seeing in person

Aquarium
Nature & Parks
Museum
Kaikyokan Aquarium, located in Shimonoseki, is a top attraction offering a fascinating look into the diverse marine life of the Kanmon Straits and beyond. With over 500 species of fish, including more than 100 types of pufferfish from around the world, visitors can explore vibrant tropical fish, mesmerizing jellyfish, and formidable sharks. The aquarium also features dolphin shows and a tunnel tank with penguins.
If you want to beat the heat and have fun while doing it, this is the perfect place, especially if you have kids! Our family spent the entire day here and around the wharf where the aquarium is located. An aquarium ticket lasts a whole day with the QR code. We were able to go in early in the morning, get some exhibits looked at, pop out for a fresh sushi lunch at the nearby Karato Fish Market, and then pop back into the aquarium to look some more or revisit previous exhibits. The dolphin shows were amazing, but definitely get there 30 min early for seats, and not every show is the same since they change the animals sometimes. Our favorite spot to rest was the sofa area in the corner of the Subantarctic Penguins on B1F. If you get there around 1:00 PM, you'll see angelic light streaming down the tank water which was stunningly beautiful when the penguins would swim and dive with a trail of bubbles behind! There are English translations for almost everything displayed, but no interpreters for whatever the caretakers are saying, but translating apps come in real handy for those times! Definitely recommend going more than once!

It's another aquarium in Fukuoka, slightly small, but each has its strength and weaknesses against other aquarium. If like to see puffer fish I think this place had the most variety in Japan....😲 🐟 Great for fish lover. Not forgetting the std seal n dolphins act..👍
Dan C — Google review
Honestly at 2500 yen per person I didn’t think I’d have this much fun at this aquarium. They had a lot of exhibits and things to do but we just walked around the aquarium and enjoyed whatever they had to offer. Seeing the penguin is honestly my highlight. Definitely worth checking out if you have time after the fish market.
Nate_yeah84 — Google review
Small aquarium. A place I went to to escape the heat in very hot weather. Just a small aquarium. There are dolphin and seal shows a few times a day, and there is also a fish feeding show. I couldn't find a parking lot, so I parked in the parking lot across the street toward Karato Market and paid 800 yen. Parking fee is too expensive. There is a restaurant on the beach on the first floor where you can eat while looking at the aquarium. If you don't want to go into the aquarium, you can eat ice cream (500 yen) at this restaurant while looking at the aquarium.
Sona — Google review
One of the main attractions of this Aquarium is the number of puffer fish species they have. It's amazing. The dolphin show was good too.
陳老师Anisah — Google review
This was the surprise of our trip. It doesn’t seem to be big from the outside but looks can be deceiving, it has plenty to see for everyone. The dolphin show is the best I’ve ever seen in my life, really impressive. Prices are reasonable and both my teenage boys love it.
Julio I — Google review
It is a must visit place if you are in simonoseki. It is a wonderful place for marine life lover. Main attraction is the penguin and the dolphins show that is held half an hour intervals. It is so beautiful to see. Also there are lots of types of fish also. Coral reef, jellyfish, sharks, sea lion, sun fish are few examples. There is blue whale skeleton also. Overall it is a awesome place to visit.

Shimonoseki City Art Museum, located in the picturesque Hinoyama Park, is a cultural institution dedicated to preserving and showcasing fine art. The museum's diverse collection includes traditional Japanese art, modern and contemporary works, as well as pieces by local artists. Despite its aging facilities due to its 40th anniversary celebration, visitors can still appreciate detailed brushwork and unique exhibitions like Fumi Yamamoto's special exhibition. This museum is a great option for families with children visiting Shimonoseki.
(Translated by Google) I went to the special exhibition "Ancient Egypt: Mysterious Discoveries!" It was empty around 11am on a Thursday, but as it was about to end, the number of people increased around 1pm. It felt a little dark to look at small artifacts. There were no mummies, but I was happy to see that the ceramic coffins and scarab amulets were all from Japanese collections. I enjoyed myself for over two hours. You'll want to go early or it'll be over soon. (Translated by Google) I visited the special exhibition of Redoute, the court painter of flowers (until 7/21). From the parking lot to the entrance, you can either climb the slope (it's a surprisingly long distance) or take the elevator directly to the reception on the first floor. The order of the exhibits was easy to follow, so I was able to get around smoothly. The sculptures in the courtyard are also wonderful. (Translated by Google) Although it's small, I think it's a well-made exhibit. This time it was an Egyptian exhibition, but even though the objects were small, they were displayed far away behind glass and the lighting was dim. The explanations were also quite small and difficult to read. I feel like there's a lot that could be done, like providing magnifying glasses or making the lighting a little brighter. The konjac rock and Pegasus statue show different expressions depending on the time and angle from which you view them. Shimonoseki City History Museum is situated by the Mimosusogawa River, overlooking the Kanmon Straits where the decisive battle between the Minamoto and Heike clans occurred in 1185. The park features statues of Yoshitsune and Tomomori, commemorating their legendary leap into the sea during this historic event. Additionally, visitors can explore a full-size replica of the Choshu gun used in the Shimonoseki War.

The exterior is gorgeous, the exhibits themselves are unexpected, and both the permanent and special exhibits are small in volume. I had other plans, so I just had a quick look at it. I thought it would be better if there was a little more volume and merchandise sales. A car is convenient for getting around. (Translated by Google) I think that the beautiful building of the Shimonoseki History Museum enhances the charm of Chofu, along with the dazzling green streets of Chofu and the many sights to see while walking around the ancient temples. Although there are not many historical materials, and there are no high-tech videos or productions, it is a legitimate museum, and there are some artistic elements such as Japanese paintings and scrolls, so even those who don't know Shimonoseki can easily learn about the major flow from Genpei to Choshu Mori to Bakumatsu Restoration to Akamaseki to Shimonoseki in an easy-to-understand manner by carefully following the easy-to-read explanations. It's compact and can be enjoyed in just 1 to 2 hours, so Karato and Dannoura are good options, but please enjoy the charm of Shimonoseki by walking through the quiet and beautiful Chofu area. (Translated by Google) I think it's wonderful that a museum has been built in a place that is associated with historical events and people, from Empress Jingu to the Genpei War to the end of the Edo period. However, I personally think it could be a little closer to the end of the Edo period. There is a museum in this area, what can visitors expect? , aren't most people thinking about the end of the Edo period, Kiheitai, Shinsaku Takasugi, and Ito/Yamagata? . I'm sure there are reasons for the museum's policy, convenience, and budget, but at least I thought I was coming to see a hero of the Meiji Restoration. I want to feel the same atmosphere, scenery, and smell as the great heroes in a land on the edge of Japan. Although it is a small museum, it is well worth the price, so I recommend you to visit it at least once.

Edo Sushi is a small restaurant run by a friendly elderly couple who take pride in their establishment. The place is quite tiny, with only enough room for seven people, so making a reservation is essential. The skilled chef has 50 years of experience and performs impressive Edomae gestures while offering reasonably priced sushi. Visitors appreciate the quiet kindness of the staff and the homely atmosphere. Despite its size, it's worth experiencing this cozy spot for an authentic sushi meal.
(Translated by Google) It was my first time to go to a sushi restaurant that was so cheap and delicious! ️ You won't get tired of watching the general's skill as he shows you his skills right in front of your eyes! It's so delicious that you won't get tired of eating it! It's a comfortable shop with interesting conversations! I highly recommend the material for the price! There is also an orthopedic clinic next door, so I think it would be a good idea to eat and go home after treatment! (Translated by Google) This is a long-established sushi restaurant in Kitakyushu. I visited during lunchtime and enjoyed the ¥3,300 sushi set for one person. It was an impressive set, featuring carefully prepared conger eel, sashimi, tender fatty tuna, large shrimp, and even tama-sashimi. Kitakyushu has long touted itself as the sushi capital of Japan, but rather than the 50,000 or 60,000 yen sushi restaurants that serve sushi with a gleaming gaze or the over-the-top value-added sushi restaurants that are booked exclusively for foreigners, what we should really support is the sushi we serve. But what's truly admirable is this local sushi restaurant that continues to serve the local community, even in these high prices, by offering the unbelievable price of 3,300 yen for 9-10 pieces of sushi and a bowl of miso soup. *The chef has been a sushi chef for 50 years, and I believe he's a leading expert who has witnessed the evolution of sushi in Kitakyushu firsthand. Of course, I'm not affiliated with the restaurant. As a fan who frequently visited the restaurant before it moved to its current location, I'm posting this with the utmost respect and gratitude. The inside of the restaurant is quite small, with 4 counter seats and 1 table for 4 people. Order the best sushi. It had the word ``sai'' on it, so I was pretty embarrassed and it sounded like a mosquito chirping. sushi. All the ingredients are fresh. It doesn't taste frozen at all, it feels like fresh fish. All of the toppings are large and thick, which tends to increase your level of deliciousness. At first glance, the general looks grumpy, but that's not the case at all; he's actually quite friendly. First of all, you asked me about wasabi, so please be generous. I told him that I love wasabi, and he put out another wasabi for me, and when that one ran out, he put more wasabi for me without saying anything. As a wasabi junkie myself, I really appreciate the consideration. Today we have a delicious nigiri, Gottsuan! Sino-Japanese Peace Treaty Memorial Hall is a small museum commemorating the Treaty of Shimonoseki. It houses tables, chairs, and other items used during the peace conference that ended the Sino-Japanese War. The museum also displays valuable historical materials related to the event. Visitors can explore a replica of the meeting room and artifacts from this significant moment in history.
The Sino-Japanese Peace Memorial Hall is a memorial hall that preserves and exhibits items and other valuable materials used during the Sino-Japanese Peace Conference. The Sino-Japanese Peace Memorial Hall opened in June 1937. The Sino-Japanese Peace Conference, which aimed to end the Sino-Japanese War, was held in Shimonoseki from March 20 to April 17, 1894. The Sino-Japanese War broke out in 1894, and was a war in which the Qing and Japan fought over the right to suppress the Donghak Peasant Movement and to gain political influence and real power in Joseon. The Qing sought to maintain its hegemony over Joseon, while Japan sought to advance into Joseon and expand its imperialist policies. The Sino-Japanese Peace Conference was held in Shimonoseki on March 20, 1894, with the aim of ending the Sino-Japanese War. At the time, Ito Hirobumi of Japan and Li Hongzhang of the Qing attended as representatives. Li Hongzhang proposed a ceasefire in the Sino-Japanese War at the first and second meetings, but Japan rejected Li Hongzhangs proposal, suggesting unequal terms. After the third meeting, Li Hongzhang was attacked on his way back to his accommodations, and this road became known as Li Hongzhang Road, located right next to the Sino-Japanese Peace Memorial Hall. This attack caused Japan to watch the mood of the Qing and Western powers, and signed a 30-day ceasefire. After that, the Oing and Japan continued to hold meetings to end the Sino-Japanese War, and signed the Sino-Japanese Peace Treaty (Treaty of Shimonoseki) on April 17.

It is a small museum dedicated to the Sino-Japanese conference meeting that were held after China lost the battle in the Sino-Japanese War. It was not the originally meeting place as the original place is now still private, but it recreated the set up of the original meeting room, and it would be interesting to those who love to study history of China and Japan.

She was the first Japanese to win the Venice Lion Prize, the second Japanese female film director (and the first Japanese film actress to hold the megaphone), and a career woman who pioneered a new way of life for Japanese women. Kinuyo Tanaka's sophisticated sensibilities can be seen in the belongings left behind, and all of them are beautiful. It seems that the exhibits are changed every season. The building is a beautifully restored former telecommunications ministry (telephone exchange), and is worth seeing just for the building itself. This area is full of attractive historical buildings such as the British Consulate and Akita Shokai.

The beautiful building provides ample space for play and learning. Despite its size, the museum offers a meaningful visit with carefully curated exhibits.

The Doigahamaiseki Jinruigaku Museum is a renowned site where numerous Yayoi human remains were found. Many burials of Yayoi people, who have ancestral ties to China, were discovered here. It evokes nostalgia that they were all interred facing the sea. The museum displays the actual excavation state and is truly impressive.
(Translated by Google) Yes, pay attention! For those of you who feel like they've had their fill of this area after seeing Motonosumi Shrine and Tsunoshima, you're still naive! It would be a shame to come this far and not see the Doigahama Ruins Anthropology Museum and return home. In short, it is a reproduction of the ancient Yayoi period cemetery site and an exhibition facility for excavated items. In fact, my knowledge of the Yayoi period, which I only had knowledge of in social studies during my student days, will be multiplied here. I'm just ashamed of myself for worrying about it.) It was a really fruitful time as we were able to infer and discuss various things from the excavated items found here. Although the name may seem formal and difficult to enter, it is actually a wonderful facility that even elementary school students can enjoy. At the tourist spots mentioned above, there are a lot of people lining up and waiting until the parking lot becomes available, but here we had plenty of time. However, although a large number of human bones have been unearthed, my honest impression is that there are very few grave goods and it lacks anything to see. Also, although the exhibit presents research results based on inferences based on bone characteristics, it is also suspicious that there are no exhibits of research results based on DNA analysis, which has been popular in recent years. Unless research results are updated, the appeal of ruins will continue to decline. It's a waste because it's such a splendid facility. "It made me think about the life back then, which was not always peaceful," she said, expressing her sadness at the fact that wars continue around the world, with modern-day Israel and Russia in mind, and that this is a reality that has continued from Yayoi's past. I made this comment because anyone who knows even a little bit about the Yayoi period would probably feel that it was too late. Just because it's ancient doesn't mean it's peaceful, and this is a reality that can be observed both on Tanegashima and here at Doigahama. However, what makes Doigahama so unique is that there aren't many visitors at all, and even though the exhibits are amazing, the nearby sea bridge and bright red torii gate cause traffic jams, making this museum forgettable. are. Adults (200 yen), university students (100 yen), and high school students and younger are free. This facility offers a glimpse into life at the time. More than 80 human bones were buried facing the same direction, deepening the mystery. It's possible that people who drifted to this area from the continent settled there, which is quite romantic. If traces of human life were found, it wouldn't be surprising if it became like Yoshinogari. The mass grave has been recreated to its original state at the time of excavation, showing the proportions of men, women, and children buried there, and some were buried in terrible conditions. About 300 human bones were found at the site of a Yayoi burial, most of which were buried facing the sea. The limestone from the shells mixed in the sand is suitable for preserving the calcium in the bones, and the bones are well preserved. Many human bones have been the subject of physical anthropology research, and it is thought that the roots of the Japanese people are due to migration and interbreeding. Kanmon Plaza is a hidden gem that offers visitors an intriguing glimpse into the engineering marvels of the Kanmon Tunnel and Bridge. This small museum, which boasts free admission, provides a unique opportunity to delve into the history and structure of these iconic landmarks. Although it may feel quiet at times, especially if you visit when there are few other guests, it's well worth your time to watch the informative video on display.
An interesting place for you to walk below the Hayatomonoseto strait. This is an undersea tunnel (this is the north entrance/ Shimonoseki side) for you to cross the strait, and exit to the south entrance/ Moji side. The length is about 700m to 800m and should be about 10 to 15 minutes to walk (pleasant walk) from 1 gate to another gate. Don’t worry as there are lifts to travel from ground to underground and vice versa. You can then walk to Kanmonkaikyo Mekari Station (from the south entrance/ Moji side) to take the retro train back to Mojiko. But bear in mind to check the train schedule before you travel here as there are closing period for operation of the retro train (please check at the ferry terminal near Mojiko station).

A 20-minute walk from the popular Karato Market. Easy to get to the entrance of it if you’re driving, but it’s also worth the trek if you’re not. Apparently it’s one of the few underwater walkway around the globe. Quite an experience to cross back to Fukuoka Prefecture from Yamaguchi Prefecture!

Looking from kyushu side can be spectacular around sunset time when the sun setting against the bridge creating orangish color on the background sky. People can walk thru this tunnel - meant for walking not vehicles - built 60 meter under the sea. The tunnel connect kyushu and honshu sides with a length of nearly 800 meter. This is something unique to do.

The 780m pedestrian tunnel is about a 15-minute walk away, allowing you to travel between Honshu and Kyushu. The round trip is about 1.5 km, so why not try crossing all the way to Kyushu from here? Pedestrians can pass through for free, but bicycles and mopeds have to pay a 20 yen toll. (Bicycles and mopeds must be pushed after dismounting.) (Translated by Google) There's a Kanmon Tunnel pedestrian entrance on the Yamaguchi side. Parking is free. (It's not a large lot, so avoid staying there for long periods.) The pedestrian access is free for pedestrians, and 20 yen for bicycles and motorbikes (push bikes)! I was so grateful. I went there because I wanted to take photos of the underwater prefectural border within the pedestrian access. The total length is 780 meters! It's exactly halfway between the Yamaguchi and Fukuoka sides, so the distance is about the same whether you're coming from either side.

The tunnel, known as the "Humanitarian Tunnel," descends 50 meters underground, a 780-meter journey one way. Traffic is on the right side of the road, and the walls are decorated with paintings of fish 🐟️ and other sea-related motifs. As indicated by the right-hand traffic sign, the paintings are swimming facing forward. ☺ The round trip takes just over 20 minutes! But, once you arrive in the Moji area, you'll find Mekari Shrine ⛩️, where you can see the difference between the Shimonoseki and Moji sides. ✨️ Please take the time to stroll around! There are stamped Kanmon Strait Crossing Commemorative Stamps on both sides (one for Shimonoseki and one for Moji). It is said to have been designed by a German, and was built by Ginnosuke Hashimoto, the master builder of Agawa Village, who has a tradition of shrine carpenters. The structure incorporates Renaissance-style stone architecture into a wooden structure, and was designated as a prefectural tangible cultural property (building) in 1979 as a representative wooden school building of the Taisho period, and in 2011. ), the west classroom was additionally designated. The first floor has information about the Toyohoku area, the origin of the building, and a room that recreates the classrooms of the old Takibe Elementary School, while the second floor is an auditorium where special exhibitions and planned exhibitions are held. (Translated by Google) In fact, the pin is located at the neighboring Takibe Hachiman Shrine Warehouse. Looking at this situation in a positive light, the slag bricks used in the foundation (base of the building) of the former Takibe Elementary School and the slag bricks of the Omiya Warehouse were made using bricks from the same Yawata Steel Works. While it might be an exaggeration to say they're sibling buildings, they're close, and I think that's why the pin is off. (The Hachiman Shrine Warehouse is older.) What? You're saying it's not? The Google Maps route to this location leads you to the Toyokita Sports Center parking lot behind the building. So where is the real parking lot!? You're probably wondering. It can be tricky for those who don't know, and it seems there are cases where people can't park even though it's nearby. The entrance to the museum is quite hard to find, but just past the building with the Marutaki Kimono Store sign, there's a narrow road that curves towards the Omiya shrine's torii gate, and you'll find a sign for Taishokan at the end of it. If you follow the arrow on the sign and go up the slight slope, you will find a parking lot that can accommodate seven cars. It serves as a place for locals to park their cars when they want to take a break or play in the park.
