Nasi Ganja Ipoh, also known as Nasi Kandar ayam Merah, is a must-try dish in Ipoh due to its addictive flavors. This Malay and Indian fusion dish features rice, spiced fried chicken, and a coconut sambal that perfectly complements the meal. Despite its name, there are no illegal substances in this dish; it's simply named for its addictive taste.
The best eatery in Ipoh period!! Nothing will ever beat this one. Tip: Eat like the locals- share a table with others if you’re only 2-3 pax.
Asyikin — Google review
Sunday 12pm Parking was not easy. You have to drive and park at the end of the block. It was easy to get a table within Yong Suan and the order was promptly noted by the staff. Food was served relatively fast because they have a system in place to cope with high volume dine in and takeaway customers. They now occupy the side late with canopy for customers to dine in. So there is adequate seating. Coffee shop drinks also take order very fast and serve fast. Too bad the price is inflated and the coffee sucks big time. Nasi Ganja is good because of the gravy and condiments. Unfortunately the chicken of fried till it is too dry. Chicken is also undersized!! Payment after the meal was seamless. Just present the slip of paper that the waiter slips onto your table while you are eating. They accept both cash and QR code payments. Slight deterioration in the food probably due to the high volume. They have to maintain good standards or customers will slowly find better alternatives.

Kena dengan selera.. Came to try the famous nasi ganja as everyone seems to recommend it. It was a corner shoplot on a busy street, and was full of people wanting to try the delicious food. But service was quick, and the price was reasonable. And the food was so, so good! And the portions were HUGE!
Zul S — Google review
Tried the famous Nasi Ganja in Ipoh, but overall, the experience was quite average. The mutton we received was mostly bones with very little meat. When we mentioned it to the staff, they casually said, “It’s like that.” Thankfully, a kind Chinese uncle at the cashier noticed and asked, “You kasi semua tulang, macam mana mau makan?”—which really spoke for us! Eventually, the server did give us an additional piece of mutton, which we appreciated. Taste : NORMAL The fried chicken was quite hard and not very enjoyable. The squid was okay, probably the best among the dishes we tried. The fish egg, unfortunately, wasn’t nice. The rice and curry were OK, and the place was busy, but overall, it didn’t quite live up to the hype. Worth trying once for the experience, but I wouldn’t go out of my way for it again.
YippieYaYa — Google review
I did a take away and ate in the comfort of my office and here is my conclusion. AVERAGE. I may try again eating on site to confirm this but the only thing I was impressed with was the lime juice. The best lime juice anywhere in the world! I found the fried chicken curry boring and the use of breast meat made it hard and tasteless. The rest of the curries all tasted the same and I tired to use the papadum to add crunchy but it was just a monotanous pile of curry with rice. The prawn and the beef curry did not inspire. I guess people love this place for its history and nostalgia and my good friend In Ipoh ate this from childhood.
Jeremy C — Google review
True to its name (Ganja translates to something "addictive" or "dope"), this place lives up to the hype! Nasi Ayam Ganja is seriously addictive and I really recommend it. Be prepared for the queue; the line is quite long, but it moves fast. It's common to share a table with strangers, which is part of the fun and atmosphere! The prices are very affordable, and the portion size is huge (banyak banget). You definitely get great value for your money here. It's Halal and you can request the non-spicy version if you prefer.
Diaz M — Google review
I love their nasi ganja! As someone who tried nasi ganja for the first time, I fell in love first taste ❤️ Price wise with that taste, very cheap! The restaurant can be quite crowded, but depending on your luck, the waiting queue wasn't that bad. On the day I went there, it took us only 5 mins to get a table, however still, I recommend to come during non-peak hour. Most importantly, don't forget to bring a fan with you because it is quite hot. Also, parking can be quite tricky.
Rozlianah J — Google review
Something must be wrong with my taste bud. The food tasted average. The chicken was tough. The rice texture was strange. The curries were bland. The iced coffee was meh.

Restoran Thean Chun is a classic kopitiam in Ipoh Old Town that has gained recognition for its must-try dish, the Kai See Hor Fun. This delightful Chicken Kuey Teow soup features flat rice noodles luxuriating in a savory broth with tender shreds of chicken and succulent prawns.
My go-to place in Ipoh. Also called ‘Hall of Mirrors’. I’ve been here for more than 30 years. All the stalls are still the same. Only the shop owner has changed but they kept the staff and still sell the same drinks. My favourite is ‘Chai Cha’; which is Egg tea without the egg. The Chee Cheong Fun is the type with chilli or ketchup sauce. Also got the ‘rolled’ cheung fun. This is not the kl type with fish cake and fish balls. More like the canning garden type. The most popular is definitely the ‘Kai see Hor fun’. KSHF is different from ‘ngar Choy kai’. The old uncle is still preparing the dishes until today. His son is selling in puchong too. Getting a bit pricey but still very good.

1st visit after a very x3 long time, we came on a very early Sunday morning. Had kopi, custard, pork & liver satay & beef noodle before 9am. Came back after 9am for KSHF. This is an old school no frills Kopitiam, but it's clean & airy. Staff r generally friendly, it's near Concubine lane. My personal rating of what we ate:- 1) pork, cken & pork innards satay. the sauce has a light spice & savory taste 4/5 2) beef ball noodle 3.5/5 3) kopi o & roti kaya 4.5/5 4) KSHF (stall open at 9am), sah hor fun is smooth, broth is sweet & rich of umami, cken & prawn is juicy & tender. 4/5 5) custard is not too sweet 5/5 Overall highly recommended if u r a fan of these types of food. I revisited after a long hiatus to relive the experience. Overall pretty satisfied

When visiting Ipoh, you definitely can’t miss the shredded chicken hor fun. We ordered the hor fun, steamed egg pudding, egg tea, and meatballs (pork and beef). The hor fun had a very unique taste, probably the authentic Ipoh style, and it was quite delicious. The steamed egg pudding was really special – smooth, chilled, and soft like a pudding with caramel on top, very tasty. The egg tea was a bit unusual for me; it tasted somewhat like tea egg but in a sweet version, still an interesting experience. As for the meatballs, the pork one was really good, while the beef had a bit of a strange taste for me, but my friend actually enjoyed it a lot.

2 Pax | Breakfast | Non-Halal | Sharing Ordered: Iced White Coffee x2 Egg Custard Price: RM9.80 Iced White Coffee x2 (Takeaway/Tapau) Price: RM6.40 Hor Fun (Big Bowl) Price: RM11 Mix Pork/Chicken Satay x10 skewers RM15 Notes: 1. The iced white coffees were potent. A good drink to start the day with. However, it may be a bit too strong for non-coffee lovers. The coffees themselves were not too bitter (personally) and not too sweet. 2. The egg custard was a nice and simple dessert. Not too sweet, and it was also soft and fluffy. 3. For the satay, the minimum order is 10 sticks/skewers. A heads-up for those who only want to try a lil bit/want a small order. The peanut sauce was light and compliments the satay well. The ratio of the amount of meat on 1 stick to its price is reasonable and can be considered cheap (1 stick/RM1.50) 4. For the Hor Fun, the noodles are basically the smaller version of the kuey teow noodles. The broth is light and unique. Personally, it tastes like any typical pork noodle soup (but with a twist!) However, I still do think it’s worth trying and seeing how it tastes for yourself. Overall, a good breakfast that’s at a reasonable price. The location itself is strategic as it’s opposite Concubine Lane and a 1-min walk from Kong Heng Square. However, just a heads-up, parking may be an issue on the weekends.

Kai See Hor Fun taste great. Curry Mee taste funny. Roti Bakar wasn't good. Kaya and butter too little. Need to respread more on the toast bread. Toast bread not crispy at all. Nasi lemak,Mee Siam and Angku taste ok. Char Kway Teow taste ok. Fish Ball,Meat Ball and Dim Sum taste alright.
Michael W — Google review
Still having one of the best chicken slice prawn hofun 鸡丝河粉 here in Ipoh, slightly pricey side at RM10. Taugeh at RM3 per plate. Egg custard, 炖蛋really good, creamy and not overwhelming egg taste, very much like panna cotta texture. Chee chong fun standard Ipoh taste. Can get crowded and a bit hot in the shop, but the food can compensate the environment~
JR Y — Google review
This place is a must go when I visit Ipoh with my staples of egg custard and chee cheong fun. Easy to find as it is located directly opposite Concubine Lane. Atmosphere wise, it is as quintessential Malaysian coffee shop as it gets with a different stalls operating onsite with different food offerings and a single drink operator. The egg custard is still as i remember it to be. There are many places in Ipoh that sells egg custard but nothing like a Thean Chun egg custard that is rich in egg flavour and properly caramelised caramel. The texture is very smooth and level of sweetness is just right. I can never stop at 1 each time. Chee cheong fun also has an amazing smooth texture and the sauces that go with it blends well. The older gent who operates the stall has been running it for decades including in the earlier decades also at St Michael's school. He shared that he makes all of his ingredients including the chee cheong fun and indeed, it is different to other places I have had before. He also heats up all his sauces over charcoal for the added fragrance. There is also a chicken biscuit stall operating in Thean Chun worth checking out. The gent who runs this stall usually hands out free samples. The chicken biscuit is also really good. Very fragrant and has a good flavour as well. I used to like the "chai cha" drink from here but in my recent visit, it was too sweet for my liking. This place although has been around for a while, it is worth going to and enjoying the food.
J F — Google review
Had 鸡丝河粉 rm10 and 豆芽 rm2 here. Hor fun is smooth. The broth is tasty with shrimp and shredded chicken. Bean sprout was plump and juicy. Find a seat then the drink stall and horfun boss will come find you to order.

Dessert shop
In the bustling city of Ipoh, Funny Mountain Soya Beancurd is a must-visit spot for food enthusiasts. This unique eatery offers its signature Tau Fu Fah, a silky smooth soya beancurd that has become a crowd favorite, especially during hot afternoons. What sets this place apart is its drive-through service, allowing customers to enjoy their delicious treats without leaving the comfort of their cars.
This Tau Fu restaurant is one of the absolute must-visit places if you find yourself in Ipoh! They serve Tau Fu (Tofu) that is truly outstanding. The texture is incredibly soft and literally melts in your mouth—it feels like it's floating! This isn't your average tofu; it's a dish you absolutely have to try. The price is very affordable for the quality you get.
Diaz M — Google review
This super popular bean curd shop serves incredibly smooth and silky tau fu fa, a specialty in Ipoh. Be prepared for a long queue, but it's worth the wait. The staff, especially the lady taking orders, were friendly. You can opt for takeout or 'dine in' on stools along the corridor. Most patrons raved about the dessert, and we enjoyed it too!
Derek N — Google review
Once known for its charming ‘drive-thru’ service, Funny Mountain now leans heavily into its popularity with tourists. While the tau fu fa remains silky and smooth, something about the nostalgic experience of eating in your car has been lost in the transition. The queue is long, the pace is fast, and though the taste is still good, it lacks the soulfulness of its earlier years. A decent stop, but best remembered for its past charm.
Isaac S — Google review
Funny Mountain Soya Bean truly lives up to its hype! Forget fancy cafes—this is a quintessential Ipoh street-food experience, and it’s perfect. The star, of course, is the tau fu fah. It is impossibly smooth and silky; it honestly just glides down your throat. I chose the traditional white sugar syrup, and the warmth and light sweetness were utterly divine, especially on a hot afternoon. The service is incredibly fast and efficient, which is good because there is almost always a line! But the best part is the "dining" setup: grabbing a tiny bowl and pulling up one of the few little plastic stools by the roadside. It’s quick, it’s chaotic, and it’s the most authentic way to enjoy one of Ipoh's best desserts. A must-visit stop if you're in the area!
Christopher H — Google review
2024: Tofufa mix with soy milk, tofufa not very smooth plus they serve you in plastic bowl + plastic spoon even if you dine at the shop. So wasteful, can just wash the dishes instead of using one-time-use plastic.
Akina H — Google review
Best tau fu fa and soya milk in town! Super smooth and just sweet enough. Staff also very friendly even when busy. Still my favorite place!
00Y — Google review
Iconic Soya bean stand that is almost an icon and legend in Ipoh. The queue is perpetual and the volume of take away amazing. The texture of the beancurd is mind blowing with just the right amount of sugar syrup. It is served really hot and scooped ONLY when you order. (This is the secret to maintain the texture and taste) they also serve 3 versions of popular drinks for takeaway in small or large. 1. White (soya bean) 2. black (chin chow or glass jelly) 3. Michael Jackson (mixture of soya bean milk and grass jelly which is grey in color)
Jeremy C — Google review
Edit: ok I'm updating from 4 star to 5 star and adding this place to my favourites. Still not life changing however after sampling many other tau fu fah and air soya during this trip to Malaysia I can say this was always the best one and the standard I held all others to. Each time I visited another vendor or market I get a watery and thin soya product and I wish I had the funny mountain one instead. Original review: 3myr tau fu fah (soybean pudding) and 3myr for air soya (soya milk drink). Eat in, take away or order via your car. Good pricing, good quality. Not a life-changing snack however I would recommend it and go back multiple times. Served quickly and the staff are helpful. Next time I would like to try the pandan sugar syrup instead. Silky and soft tau fu fah, a tad too sweet for me but I prefer savoury meals in general.  Not life changing but it was satisfying. The soy milk drink is delicious and refreshing. A tad sweet, not sure if they add sugar syrup to it or that's the natural taste? We visited again the following day for another snack and refreshing drink.

Ayam Garam Aun Kheng Lim (Main Branch) is a renowned spot in Ipoh Old Town, known for its famous salted chicken. The fragrant chicken is baked with dang gui and offers tender, herbal-tinged meat that's best enjoyed by hand. This establishment has gained iconic status and is a must-visit for tourists seeking authentic salt-baked chicken stuffed with Chinese herbs and baked in coarse salt.
I had the pleasure of trying the famous Ayam Garam Aun Kheng Lim Salted Herbal Bake Chicken and it was truly an unforgettable experience. The chicken was incredibly tender, juicy, and infused with a rich herbal aroma that balanced perfectly with the saltiness of the traditional recipe. The flavors went deep into the meat, making every bite comforting yet full of character. It’s the kind of dish that feels both nourishing and indulgent at the same time, no wonder it’s such a well-loved specialty. What made the visit even more special was the kindness of the owner. Not only was he warm and welcoming, but she also took the time to let us visit the baking kitchen. It was fascinating to see the traditional process of preparing and baking the chicken, which gave us an even greater appreciation of the hard work and dedication behind this iconic dish. You can really feel the pride and authenticity in every step. The whole experience felt like more than just a meal , it was a cultural and culinary journey. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Ipoh who wants to taste something authentic, unique, and made with heart. I will definitely return again!
Yvonne C — Google review
It has been years since I have had salt baked chicken and had to stop by this famous shop to try the much raved salt baked chicken. Totally no regrets. I took a Grab and made a pit stop quick dash in and out of the shop to pick up the chicken. There were 2 persons in the queue and that moved very quickly. The staff were very efficient. The shop has pre-packed the chickens ready to go and patrons have the option of heated or chilled chicken to go. There isnt a dine in option for this shop. Payment is only by cash. The chicken was succulent, tender, and juicy. It was infused with a rich herbal aroma + flavour that just waft through the air when the packet of chicken was opened. I love the slices of dongkwai herbs slipped into different parts of the chicken. The herb really further enhanced the flavour of the salt baked chicken. It is possible for the whole chicken to be eaten by a single individual in a single seating. Otherwise, good for sharing too. All in all, it is a unique and amazing traditional food to enjoy. I recommend anyone who is thinking of trying to do so.

Definitely worth the hype. Popular for a good reason. It's so tender, fall of the bone with barely any effort. Well seasoned & salty enough without being too overwhelming. Very easy, purchase from counter. Take away . Simple. Chicken at its simplest form yet very delicious. Recommend
Amon M — Google review
Ipoh. The market leader for the famous Ipoh delicacy, additionally offers the frozen version from a 24/7 vending machine. Lightly seasoned with salt and Chinese herbs, the “kampung” (free range) chicken is not tender but chewy although juicy and tasty, especially freshly baked. The chicken is not salty salty, but may still be too much for some, if not many. A salt-lite option would be ideal. Additionally, the shop could offer tastings, but more focused on quick sales.
RC — Google review
Very yummy salted herbal Chicken. Straight forward buy, either warm or frozen chicken. RM35 each. No dine in, only take away. Frozen chicken can last 1 month in freezer.
Alex T — Google review
We were told to try this salt baked chicken. They sell the chicken in a vending machine too. We bought a few frozen ones and was really good. I can imagine freshly cooked ones would be even better.
Chi L — Google review
Juicy and flavourful salted chicken. Apparently we've been buying from these store and the price has increased a lot since the last time we bought. Nice to see that it is made on the spot.
Whitney Y — Google review
This is one of the most famous salted chicken shops in Ipoh. Their red and white building is definitely one of the most eye-catching in the area. I felt the size of the chicken was slightly larger than other salted chicken I’ve tried before. Now, they even have a vending machine selling only their signature salted chicken!

Kedai Kopi Sin Yoon Loong, located in Ipoh Old Town, is a must-visit for those seeking an authentic experience of the popular Ipoh white coffee. This humble cafe has been serving its rich and aromatic coffee since 1937, making it a beloved spot for over 80 years. Upon arrival, visitors are greeted by a bustling atmosphere and can join locals in savoring their coffee alongside Danzhi, which is toast topped with a creamy boiled egg.
One of the famous traditional coffee shops in Ipoh👏👏 A great place to experience the local food culture. Prices are reasonable and the location is right in the city center👍😃
Philip — Google review
This old-school coffee shop is buzzing with locals and tourists, creating a lively atmosphere. We enjoyed classic toast bread and iconic Ipoh white coffee, both of which were delicious. Friendly and efficient staff and did not miss any orders.. A great spot to soak up the local culture.
Derek N — Google review
Good old school vibe, friendly staffs (all foreign workers) and beautiful lady boss, white coffee c is awesome here but lack of the typical white coffee foam, wantan mee is very much below average, the porky smell a bit too strong and the wantan with soup was cold and meat was not so fresh. The roti bakar here is also pretty much below average. Overall pretty lackluster experience, prefer the opposite shop Nam Heong Coffee Shop more, which has a much better selection of food prepared by local Malaysians
Chuah P — Google review
This coffee shop is my go to in Ipoh. It has an old school coffee shop vibe and atmosphere. Highlights and tips: - Highly recommend coming here earlier part of the morning as the temperatures are more pleasant. - Orders are placed in person. Food at the food stalls where it is possible to order food from nearby shops/ stalls if they didnt have that food item in this shop. Drinks orders are taken at the table. All food and drinks items to be paid when delivered. - I paid in cash for all my ordered items. - The white coffee did taste a little different to when I was last here (bout 2 years ago) though still strong and rich in flavour. It was probably a bit more milky in flavour than I last remembered it. - The ice lime tea was nice. The tea and lime were both very fragrant. - The Portuguese Tart was good. Not too sweet, good flake for the pastry and good texture overall. - The wanton mee and char siew (a.k.a bbq pork) is my top favourite. Love the char and sweetness of the bbq pork. Love the fact too that we could order extra meat. As much as I would have loved to have just the bbq pork, they only sell it with the noodles. - The roast pork (a.k.a siew yoke) was ok. Not stellar and not a standout. - The char kuey teow was decent. It was from across the road from another coffee shop. - The kaya toast was passable. This one I would give a miss. I have had better in a number of places. I think this place is worth giving a go with the white coffee and wanton mee as the order items.
J F — Google review
The coffee was mediocre. My first experience with an iconic white coffee giant was disappointing and sad. The kaya toast had not enough kaya and the soft boiled eggs on taste was a flop. I guess the reason why people hype about this place was probably due to their long history of serving traditional coffee and toast. The only saving grace was the wanton Mee with was 5 stars. Otherwise, I do not recommend their coffee and toast
Jeremy C — Google review
Old school coffee shop. I still prefer it to the rival across the street . Limited food choices but the roast pork belly is worth it and less waiting then the opposite shop. The wonton noodles actually had char siew with some caramelized fat. Lovely!! White coffee is still the best.

We wanted to go 南香茶室which is opposite this coffee shop. But the Q is too long so we came here. The coffee and tea is good, 猪肠粉,烧腊good. Don't order the bread, not good. must know that you actually can order the Prawn mihood from 南香and they will bring over here. very good must try.

Very crowded area in the morning. Need to wait for space. Roast pork and ipoh white coffee is, not so sweet. The meat floss with salted egg not very good, egg tart was very bad, pudding not bad but not fragrant

On a sweltering day, nothing beats the refreshing delight of cendol, and Deen CT Corner Cendol is the perfect spot to indulge in this beloved Malaysian dessert. With over 20 years of experience, this charming stall run by a seasoned husband-and-wife team has mastered the art of crafting cendol that strikes an ideal balance between sweetness and flavor. Their signature dish features vibrant green jelly served atop finely shaved ice, generously drizzled with rich coconut milk and palm sugar.
This Cendol Corner is my go-to place to enjoy a cold bowl of delicious cendol since many years ago. The owners still maintain their original taste. This small premise is situated just across the road from Kamdar. Their hot selling combo is or course PJK, i.e. pulut, jagung and kacang. The secret of this wonderful dessert lies in their gula melaka syrup, which is thick and rich in flavour.
Ugowrie — Google review
Deen CT Corner Cendol offers a traditional cendol experience, but the taste is fairly ordinary. The pulut rice was very soft—not my preference, as I prefer a firmer texture. Parking can be a bit challenging, so plan accordingly. Overall, a decent spot but nothing particularly standout.
RS A — Google review
The ever famous Cendol! And what a letdown! Disappointing.. not that it tasted bad but I had higher hopes considering the reviews they had. Ordered 2 cendols - 1 with glutinous rice (pulut) and the other with corn. Cendol with pulut - tasted bland but refreshing, thanks to our warm Malaysian climate. Shaved ice is clumpy, can’t really taste coconut milk, gula Melaka is not fragrant and not much ingredient really. Place is without AC and parking is surprisingly easy to get. Queuing time is bearable as the auntie works fast. The seating area is dirty and sticky.
Alex L — Google review
Dropped by Deen CT Corner Cendol yesterday and wow — what a treat! We went for the jagung and kacang cendol, and it totally hit the spot. The sweetness from the jagung paired perfectly with the creamy coconut milk, and those red beans? Soft, generous, and absolutely addictive. The ice was just right — not too coarse, not too fine — and everything was drenched in rich, fragrant gula melaka. Service was fast, friendly, and full of charm. No frills, just honest-to-goodness flavour in every spoonful. If you’re in Ipoh and craving cendol that slaps — this is the spot. Five stars!
Zashnain — Google review
Had it today. It was a little weak on the santan and just pure sweet. Honestly a little disappointed with this old store.
Ee R — Google review
Saw this shop across the road. On this sunny day, what can quench your throat if it's not "cendol"? Their iconic one is Cendol PJK, Pulut Jagung Kacang. It is just your regular cendol, but the feel of eating it in a limited place and sitting while watching a busy road. It's just a perfect place for photography. Honestly I not a fan of cendol, but hey, at least I try their special.
Duck I — Google review
Terbaeeekkkkk. Hari ni 18 sept, i was here again. No q because i was early (just before 12pm). Today it tasted better.
A A — Google review
We ordered the cendol biasa and cendol pulut. Cendol biasa is RM3 and cendol pulut was RM4.50, and we liked both. It’s not too sweet as we thought. Seating arrangement was rather basic. Just few stools and benches with no tables. Good for a quick cendol fix.

Ming Court Hong Kong Dim Sum Sdn Bhd is a must-visit for those who love Cantonese cuisine, particularly the famous Dim Sum. This traditional style of food is served in bamboo baskets and includes steamed, stir-fried, pan-fried, deep-fried, congee, and dessert categories.
Very good dimsum! Love the lor mai kai! Muah chee (peanut mochi) has a sweet peanut fragrance! Love it! Porridge texture is good. Chee cheong fun doesnt look good but taste yums. Skip the chicken feet and the beancurd. Must order the sesame paste!
Ling J — Google review
This old-school restaurant serves up tasty dim sum, despite not looking as fancy as modern places. The staff carry trays with a variety of options, allowing you to choose your favourites. It's a great spot for authentic dim sum.
Derek N — Google review
Parking: Lucky to find an empty slot as another famous dim sum restaurant is located just opposite. Food: Taste good. Good portion. Environment: Reached by 7.30am. No need to wait. Not too crowded as compared to previous good old days. Service: Great service there. Workers are friendly enough to strike a conversation. Price: Affordable. But gets hungry too soon after drinking Pu Er tea.

Crowded. Need take a number during public holiday and weekend. There is a que so prepare to share table if want to get seat faster. Infront is Foh Shan dim sum restaurant which equivalent crowded and need take number. Typical serving style that bring tray of dimsum to your table to choose. Nothing special but authentic taste. The dimsum we order range from Rm4.90 to Rm5.90 per plate. Acceptablr pricing for this quality. Recommended.
LIONG M — Google review
This dim sum place is one of Ipoh’s oldest and most recommended. Every traveller, including me, had to see what the hype was about. Sadly, my excitement deflated faster than a steamed bun left in the open. The “traditional taste” just doesn’t excite my taste buds, it felt like someone installed an insulator between my taste buds and the dim sum here. Prices are a bit cheaper than other restaurants around, but the portions have transformed into “fun-sized.” It’s shrinkflation, but they make it polite. The black sesame dessert and the lor mai gai were the only ones I could recommend. The sesame was smooth and fragrant, just as you’d imagine, and not too sweet. The lor mai gai, though, was next-level, flavorful, tender, and honestly the hero the Ipoh dim sum world didn’t know it needed. I will only come back if I’m craving that lor mai gai or the black sesame dessert again. The place is always packed (no idea why, maybe nostalgia tastes better to locals). Don’t leave your patience at the hotel, you’ll need it especially if you’re visiting in a large group. Service was average but food is served fast. You just need to flag down the servers roaming around with trays of dim sum. You point, pick and eat.
Ran W — Google review
Ming Court Dim Sum in Ipoh is a true gem for those who appreciate the charm of traditional Hong Kong–style morning yum cha. From the moment you step in, the bustling chatter, clinking of teacups, and aroma of freshly steamed dim sum instantly transport you back to the golden days of retro Cantonese teahouses. We ordered a delightful spread, including siu mai, har gow, spring rolls, fried prawn dumplings, char siew puffs, steamed buns, and assorted deep-fried treats. Each dish was served on nostalgic pink plates, adding to the old-school vibe. The dim sum here is fresh, piping hot, and full of flavour, I especially enjoyed the prawn dumplings, which had a generous filling and a nice bite, and the spring rolls, which were crispy yet not oily. The service is brisk and efficient, fitting perfectly with the busy morning crowd. Don’t expect a slow, quiet brunch — this is where locals and visitors come together for lively conversations over tea and dim sum. If you love a vintage, authentic yum cha experience that captures the spirit of old Hong Kong mornings, Ming Court is a must-visit in Ipoh. Arrive early, seats fill up fast!
Yvonne C — Google review
Authentic local dim sum (coffee shop style) and bustling vibe. We enjoyed most of the dim sum but perhaps only the egg tarts a bit disappointing. Overall its worth a visit 😀
Jo N — Google review
The place serves a lot of delicious dim sums, and you don’t need a menu at all, their waiters will just approach you and ask what do you need. Just take it if you want it and then do the bill in the end, very convenient. It might be super crowded if you come too late so be prepared of queuing for some time, and the parking space is limited as well.

Kedai Makanan Nam Heong, located in Ipoh, is renowned for its authentic Ipoh white coffee. This old town coffeeshop has retained its traditional ambiance over the years and is famous for being the birthplace of the original Ipoh White Coffee. Despite the emergence of commercialized franchises, Nam Heong continues to be held in high regard by locals. In addition to their signature white coffee, visitors can explore other stalls within the shop offering various delicacies.
The coffee, is coffee, no white coffee 😆 i order ice coffee and white coffee ais, the waiter told me only got 1 type ice coffee . The egg tart is not sweet add the filling is quite full. Not the best fragrance egg tart but its fresh and warm when its served. (Not sure if i m lucky) I like the “sio bao” . Limited serving table. Ao be prepare to queue.
Gabrielle T — Google review
Have to wait in queue to be seated. The food is good and nice. Not too salty or sweet. If you feel the drinks are too sweet you can ask them to fix the drinks for you. Eg coffee too sweet, they will remove a bit and refill with unsweetened coffee. Food portion per serving is just nice. The cost is around RM6 to RM9 mostly.
Stanley P — Google review
Dropped by Nam Heong Coffee Shop in Ipoh's Old Town, a beloved local institution that's been serving up traditional favorites for ages. I tried their famous Ipoh white coffee, which was smooth and comforting, though the taste was pretty standard for my palate. The dim sum spread was decent, but nothing that blew me away - just solid, familiar options. On the other hand, their char koay teow was a real highlight - wok-fried to perfection and packed with flavor. And the prawn mee? Wow! The broth was rich and intense, loaded with prawn goodness, and the prawns themselves were fresh. All in all, a satisfying meal at a classic spot that's definitely worth a visit.

Corner coffee shop. Arrived at 1pm Friday. Very cramped. Ordered noodles soup. RM9. A bit taken aback. Portion was average and so was taste. Iced Coffee was good though. Thick and strong.
Michael T — Google review
Egg tart is good & fresh, not too sweet and generous amount of fillings, be prepared for queue to buy. Char kuey teow is good. Hor fun soup is good too even though portion is a bit small. Chee cheong fun is not to my liking. Coffee is normal for Ipoh standards
Keet F — Google review
While the food is ok but not outstanding except the egg tart, which is very fresh, bake to sell type. The price is as good as KL but worse off with the amount of quantity served. RM 9 per bowl is not well justifiable. Prepare to wait for table at peak hour because the table is really limited.
Dandelion — Google review
Atmospheric and old school. They serve the traditional white coffee and charcoal toasted white bread. The coffee is excellent and thick - well made and potent! However, the bread was a disappointment - not enough charcoal taste and insufficient kaya and butter. Overall experience in the hot coffee shop was very “Ipoh” Recommended, but will not return
Ron Y — Google review
It was packed, be prepared to share table with another small group if you are 1-2 in a group, otherwise waiting time is at least 10min. Tables and chairs are tight close together. It was not organized, messy system on where to pay or order, whether you are taking away or dine in. Drinks were late, food were late and was the wrong order. If there was a QR system for the main owner of the shop, can be invested, especially for this busy shop, so orders are correct or arrive on time. Food quality are tasty, a bit pricy. Spoke to the regular customers, they said everything is tasty and worth try. If you come late afternoon, some stalls have closed.

From vegetables to seafood, the restaurant offers an extensive range of delightful dishes that are as pleasing to the palate as they are to the eye. With pre-ordering available and friendly staff ready to assist with any inquiries, visitors can expect a timely and enjoyable dining experience at this legendary establishment.
Had dinner at Restoran Tuck Kee and it definitely lived up to its reputation. The Yu Kong Hor (fried flat noodles with egg) was smooth and flavorful, and the baby octopus dish was a standout—tender, springy, and well-seasoned The menu offers a great variety of Cantonese-style noodles and stir-fried dishes, all at reasonable prices. The place gets very crowded, especially during weekends, so expect a queue. Overall, a great spot for local-style noodles and a must-try if you're exploring Ipoh’s food scene.

The food here is decent—nothing extraordinary, but satisfying enough for a quick meal. Be prepared to order and queue before being seated, though the dishes come out surprisingly fast once you do. The biggest downside is the limited parking, so plan accordingly.

The food here is really good. The moonlight hor fun is so smooth it literally slit down my throat effortlessly ! Had the cuttlefish ball soup too, which was comforting and they are huge ! Suggest to come before 6pm as the crowd starts coming in.

The food here is satisfactory, though it may not be particularly outstanding. I find that the Tuck Kee in the KL branch offers a more appealing flavor profile in my personal opinion.

When you come Ipoh, everyone mentions tuck kee. Or probably I should mention the tourist haha. I passed by Ipoh recently, quite late. The famous chicken rice already closing up, caught them cleaning up. So drop by the next best thing, which is a few doors down. The famous tuck kee. So many here with 2 similar shops side by side even. Made a beeline for this particular shop cause of the queue outside. Ordered a few dishes on the menu. The fried stuffs etc plus meatball, lobak, taugeh 😅, yes I was abit hungry. System is to queue and order at the counter. Then they will designate the table. At least it’s systematic and avoid disorderly confrontations. The main star fried noodles/yu Kong hor was good but abit salty for me. The taugeh and meatballs are a great compliment. The lobak unfortunately was forgettable. The baby octopus was another star side dish. Yummy. Overall drop by when Ipoh, try it to see what’s the fad about 👍🏻
Boon H — Google review
Soy Sauce Octopus was yummy! Excellent side dish. Fried Spring Roll was good as well (No pics, sorry). Deep fried Chicken Wing was pretty normal. Yu Kong Hor is great! But the most unique was the 滑蛋鱼面. Noodles made from fishball material, looks like Udon, but so springy and coated with savoury sauce. Go early to avoid the queue. Food is served relatively fast. One of the more special Ipoh eateries we stopped by.

Greentown Dimsum Café is a cozy and inviting restaurant located in the heart of Ipoh, offering a wide variety of delicious and authentic halal dim sum dishes. From steamed dumplings to fried wontons and bao buns, the menu has something for everyone. The ingredients used are carefully selected and certified halal, making it a great option for Muslim patrons.
dim sums were SOOOO good, best halal dim sum. I enjoyed the golden fish dim sums the most because surprisingly they taste better than the shrimps, but each to their own! Cheong fun was so2, loved the dumplings and dim sum more, restaurant was somewhat spacious, but we went at a non hectic time so crowd was okay. Serving time is decent and cashier was friendly, although had to wait for food for quite some time but the dim sums came in a bunch instead of one by one so it was satisfactory. Restaurant was clean too, would love to come again!

I went for Dim Sum today at GreenTown Dim Sum in Ipoh, and it was a really great experience! What makes this place special is that it’s pork-free, so it’s perfect for halal eaters or anyone who avoids pork, including many Indian diners. They offer a wide variety of tasty options made with chicken and prawns, so there’s something for everyone to enjoy. If you’re in Ipoh and craving Dim Sum, I definitely recommend checking this place out!
Sempurna P — Google review
The food at this restaurant is really good and worth trying, but I think they need to take better care of the place. The aircon is quite weak, which makes it uncomfortable at times. Service should be faster, and the staff need more training to be better organized. They should also serve all plates at the same time instead of one by one, to give a better dining experience. With some improvements, this place could be excellent.
Yahia — Google review
Finally made it to one of the first halal chinese owned dimsum houses in Ipoh. Not sure how it was when it first opened, but now although they do serve acceptable dimsum and dishes, it is just managing a passable rating with hits and misses. The fillings are sometimes delicious but then let down by the skin, as exampled by the siew mai that had its snow skin broken. I think this can be summarised by the ‘lokek’ in the ingredients, whereby if they do not stinge the food would be over the top. Imagine chinese noodles without any seafood, even a couple of shrimps would have sufficed, and you would get my meaning . Overall, a good place for someone who just started to try out halal chinese yum cha, but for those with an already developed taste would be better to look elsewhere in town. I keep saying my chinese boys in Ipoh would be complaining loudly if they dined here during the meal.

Went to the restaurant around afternoon on Saturday. Not too crowded. We were seating outside at first but the staff quickly suggested a table inside when they saw our baby in stroller. Food: 10/10 We ordered some dim sums, stir fried radish, & cantonese noodle. The dim sums were big compared to other dim sum that i had before and the fillings were really delicious! All other foods were also in big portions. Price: Affordable Personally i think the price was quite cheap compared to other dim sum places. We ordered a lot but the price came at less than rm100. Overall, it was a really great experience dining here! We most likely will come again when we visit ipoh or maybe we will come just to dine here!

Cowan Street Ayam Tauge & Koitiau Restaurant is a must-visit dining spot in Ipoh, known for its delectable bean sprouts chicken soup and irresistible chicken rice. Despite its irregular opening hours, locals and tourists flock to this eatery for their famous nga choy kai and braised chicken feet. The restaurant's flavorful broth and tender poached chicken have earned it a solid reputation among food enthusiasts.
Arriving just before opening, we snagged the last table. The shop was spotless, with chicken displayed front and centre. The staff's efficient ordering process and the old uncle's expert preparation added to the charm. Despite using a walking stick, his passion for serving was evident. The chicken was tender, old-school, and flavorful (on the salty side). Hor fun in soup was a nice twist instead of fragrant rice. I'm glad we visited - and judging by the long queue when we left.

Long Q and renowned restaurant in Ipoh. This place tests your patience, tolerance of hygiene, luck to get your food properly. The quality of the chicken is just above the par at best and definitely not a miss-out to pass. Stains of mold observed at the bottom of beverage cup. If none of these is an issue for you, pls proceed.

Only open on Thursday to Sunday. Be ready to queue up for your turn but the turnover is quite fast, very efficient staff. Open at exactly 6pm. They are open only on Thurs- Sun but if they felt tired, they will just close for business. This place is operated by senior couple for more than a few decades. Looking at them, they are easily over 80 yrs. If you are looking for a nice Tauge Chicken Hor Fun ( Not Kai Si Hor Fun) this is the place. Locals lined up to eat and they will close once they have finish selling the limited numbers of chicken. Orders will be taken and a plate of white pepper chicken feet is served long before the rice came. Probably its the appetiser. The noodle and the chicken came later. The fried onion oil brings out the chicken flavour , the noodle is smooth and that is additive. Anyway, the price is not cheaper than KL even in Ipoh. Overall the chicken is soft and smooth. Tauge as usual don't dissapoint. Try if you can because the legasy of this place is short and they don't have any apprentice to continue the business and will stop once the couple could no longer cook.

Came during weekday and the restaurant is already full of customers right when it opened at 6pm, luckily there's still some table left for us to be seated. There are chairs outside which is mainly for those waiting for their takeaway order, one of the kind customer there informed us of this as we thought there were no seats inside and have to wait outside. Food wise I think it's just your average Bean Sprouts Chicken in Ipoh, and price is kinda high. Service of the staffs here is ok, since the owner is already old, they hired foreign staff to help and it is not too hard to understand them.

This is an old shop serve one of the authentic chicken, beansprouts ho fan in Ipoh. The taste: is a bit different from the normal chicken bean sprout hor fan. It comes with unique aroma which has a blend of herbs, pepper and sesame. The hor fan has its signature smooth and silky texture. The chicken is soft and juicy but for those who is first time trying, you may found some red oozing out the chicken, but it is normal.
Tan S — Google review
Came to Q early based on reviews. However, no matter how early we came, the serving did not go by Q. There was a couple just walk in when the shop start operating and they were served ahead of us. Chicken texture is smooth as the chicken was dip in ice bath after cook but lack of firmness of a free range chicken as farm chicken is used. Price wise is at a premium range RM76 which not worth for farm chicken. Other foods are pretty pricy as well. For example, one plate of bean sprout cost RM18 and one cup of barley drink cost RM2.80

Chooi Yue Dim Sum Ipoh is a popular spot in Ipoh known for its delectable dim sum offerings. Unlike the bustling dim sum street filled with tourists, this restaurant is tucked away from the crowds, allowing visitors to avoid long queues. One of their standout dishes is the lau sa pau, a unique twist on the traditional salted egg yolk bun by incorporating pandan into the filling, creating a delightful balance of sweet and salty flavors that keeps patrons coming back for more.
Been coming here with my family regularly for dim sum. Recommend their yam puff, fish ball, century egg rolls, sweet and sour roll, fried radish cake, fried prawn roll and pork with century egg porridge. The food quality is good and consistent over all these years that I’ve been visiting. Give it a try for anyone who likes dim sum too. It would be really crowded on the weekends, and recommended to go early if you are an early riser like me. Pricing is getting higher every year.

Every time I passed by and saw so many people lining up, I really thought it must be delicious. Today I finally got to try it, and honestly, it was a big disappointment. Compared to KL, they do have some unique dim sum, but the taste was really just average—not even close to being delicious. I honestly don’t understand why so many people are willing to queue for it. 🤔

The restaurant opens from 7am to 2pm. Although we arrived after 1 pm the waitresses were still happily serving us and showing us the many choices of dimsum. Top favourite was the 流沙包 in which was kaya +salted egg lava- something that is worth every calorie taken in…… For eating 28 servings ()籠()and teas at RM3 per pax, we paid around RM240. I loved the decor which included a centerpiece of cross-stitch artwork that was awesome.

Offers great local food options and is very welcoming to tourists! Must-try dishes include curry noodles, wanton noodles, glutinous rice with kaya, and their iced white coffee (opt for less sweet if preferred). We loved it so much that we came back just for the coffee and homemade duck egg kaya on glutinous rice — absolutely worth the calories!!

Had an amazing breakfast experience at Kedai Kopi Keng Nam. The restaurant was pleasantly quiet during my visit, making it a relaxed and comfortable stop to kickstart the day. The highlight for me was the Kopi Ice, hands down the best I’ve had in Ipoh. Rich, smooth, and perfectly balanced. I also tried the pulut kaya, which was a real standout. It’s not something you commonly find elsewhere, and it had a unique taste that sets it apart. The prawn noodles were flavorful and came in a generous portion, definitely worth trying if you’re a fan of local noodle dishes. Ambience wise, it’s a classic kopitiam setting with plenty of tables. While not fancy, it has that nostalgic charm. Parking can be a bit tricky though, as it’s mostly street parking and usually paid. All in all, I’d highly recommend this place for a good, authentic breakfast in Ipoh. Great food, great kopi, and a local experience not to miss.

Look, it's time for some old school. Relaxed, casual kopitiam frequented by locals for the chill vibes and good food. Famous for the curry noodles and kaya glutinous rice, there are other choices available too such as chee cheong fun, wantan mee and liu fun. The dry curry noodles are quite alright. Taste-wise hits all the correct notes, but I'd prefer a thicker and creamier broth. The curry paste is not as rich and decadent as say, Yee Fatt near MGS. Also, the toppings are limited to chicken slices and char siew, both of which are just normal. A hard pass, but there are definitely better. The liu (meatballs) met expectations. But at RM1.50 per liu, it's pricey. Surprise of the morning was the coffee. Once subpar and the worst part of the cafe, today they make wonderful white coffee that's rich, creamy, slightly bitter, with just a touch of chocolate. I love it. I don't have the urge for repeated visits here, but for a casual breakfast meetup over good coffee and alright food, it's more than enough.
ChoonSeng L — Google review
Only tried kaya butter toast , charm coffee and kaya pulut. Kaya is smooth and coconutty in a good way. The pulut has a slight savoury taste so its a good match with the kaya. Kedai boss was very hospitable, prioritizing to serve customer even when he was about to have his lunch. No aircon, only fan.
Globe W — Google review
Good coffee. The kaya sticky rice is very nice. Loved the texture of the sticky rice. Kaya is not too sweet. The dry curry mee is okay. Not very impressed with the taste. Service is good, staffs are quite welcoming and friendly.

The dry curry and soup curry tastes the same so I'd rather get the soup next time to have more curry. Kaya glutinous rice is an amazing combi. Kopi is very gao here. Wantan mee was dabaoed but tasted soso only

Totally disappointed with the attitude of the waiters here, waited for 15 minutes for the orders to be taken. Preference given by colour. Only thing nice is pulut kaya. Half boil egg is over boiled!

Yoon Kee Bean Sprouts Chicken is a beloved Malaysian dish that features tender poached chicken, fragrant steamed rice, and blanched bean sprouts seasoned with soy sauce. Originating from the Hainan province in China, this dish has become a staple in Ipoh's culinary scene thanks to Chinese migrants. The locally grown bean sprouts are known for their crisp texture and fresh taste, attributed to the local water.
Majority supported by local. Taste good and reasonable price. Will come again. The jelly fish is perfect serve I like. Open seating that can order any stalls you like

One of the best Chicken Hor Fan Soup in town. The soup is flavourful and there is a long queue. Mee Kicap has an old traditional taste.

This was my wife's favorite spot for bean sprout chicken growing up, so we made a quick stop here for dinner on our way back from KL. The chicken was still as smooth and tender as ever, and the bean sprouts were fat, juicy, and full of flavor. A great stopover for a satisfying meal—highly recommended!

Located at Ipoh stadium food court. Very good Hainan chicken rice. Cooked to perfection. Meat is very tender. Sauce is not too salty. Famous Ipoh Beansprout did not over cooked as it is very crunchy. Curry chicken is not bad either. Plenty of parking available and stall only open for dinner time
Wyndson L — Google review
I came here for the beansprout chicken but what you really should come for is the chicken hor fun soup noodle. The soup is very flavourful and thick and there's a generous amount of chicken. The rice was good but not as good as the hor fun. . I think this place is more known to the locals as there wasn't a crowd here on Sunday. Located at the Perak Stadium food court, there's plenty of parking and in the evening there was a cool breeze. Chicken Tauge + Rice and one Hor Fun soup came up to RM21 at the time of writing.

The chicken rice is sumptuous. It's bearded chicken (Wu Soh Kai) is best. Must go early especially on weekends coz it's always full. This stall is at Stadium Ipoh. Half chicken plus taugeh & rice is rm44. The CKT, Chicken Hor Fun, Grilled Tau Hu & Fruit Rojak from other stalls are just as nice. There's one malay stall selling packet nasi lemak at rm2.50 & satay is also worth trying

Restoran Frens Corner Snow Beer 朋友饮食阁海鲜大炒(雪花啤) is a popular spot that transforms into an open-air eatery with hawker-style restaurants in the evening. Located at the back of old town, it offers a unique "snow beer" that appears less bitter and has a smoother, frothy foam.
Great spot for a chill night out! The snow beer is super refreshing — icy cold and smooth. Food is typical Chinese zi char style, tasty and goes well with the beer. Lively atmosphere, perfect for gathering with friends!

When in Ipoh, one must try the delightful "怡保霸王盐焗鸡" or Ipoh Ba Wang salt chicken. This dish features free-range chickens that are marinated with a blend of aromatic Chinese herbs, including angelica root, and then wrapped in greaseproof paper. The magic happens when these chickens are baked in large woks filled with rock salt.
We bought last Friday some cooked and frozen. No complaints about the chicken. Taste good with many tong kwai and fresh kampong chicken .The price is RM35 per bird and reasonable price with bigger bird compared with others.

Restoran Tauge Ayam Lou Wong is a popular spot in Ipoh, known for its Ngar Choi Kai (Steamed Chicken with Beansprouts), a local specialty. Despite becoming touristy over the years, it attracts people from all walks of life. The enormous water tankards soaking beansprouts and the overflowing tables during dinner time reflect its popularity.
The is a well known chicken rice cafe in Ipoh. The cafe has no air conditioning and most of the tables are placed on the street (actually at the side of the road). So, if you are looking for a nice place to dine, this cafe may not suit you. Because of its name, it is quite busy even on weekdays. The dinner session starts at 6:00 pm and close when the foods are sold out. The staff are extremely efficient. Foods are normally sold out at 7:30 to 8:00 pm. Please be there at 6:00 pm if you want to try most of their signature dishes. The foods are not bad but I found it a bit salty. I also that the chickens are not free range chickens and hence the “taste of chicken” is rather light! The bean sprouts are good though!
Frank W — Google review
We have been a few times and it is one of our go to places for Ipoh chicken & bean sprouts. Here are some points bout this place and my dining experience: - Seats & tables are by the roadside or in the restaurant though limited tables. There is no air conditioning in the restaurant. For a more airy seating, the outdoor seating is better. - They have retractable awnings which will provide a level of protection if there is rain. - Order is placed with staff who will approach to take your order. It is stock standard service as you would expect. - Payment is by cash or e-payment. - Chicken is of firm texture. The sauce was a bit on the oily side. Flavour wise was pretty alright. - Bean sprouts too were a bit on the oily side. Flavour and texture wise was pretty good. - Sometimes there may be street vendors who approach diners selling their wares. I would come back but probably may need to tell them to cut down on the oil.
J F — Google review
I love the soya sauce based hor fun (order dry instead of soup). The texture of the noodles were soft and it absorbed the taste very well. Next, the pork ball was delicious too. The bean sprouts were crunchy and tasted sweet. The chicken was delicious but I think the person did not know how to chop the chicken nicely. The angle and the shape doesn't confirm to the normal on how chicken should be chopped! The chicken feet cold dish was ok only. Will skip this for sure!!
Sheue N — Google review
Succulent chicken that cooked to perfection and paired with nice soy based sauce to give it a rich umami saltiness. The rice is fragrant and fluffy albeit of the drier style instead of the oilier types common with chicken rice. Both the dry and soup based hor fun(rice noodles) are nicely done. Order based on your preference, the dry version is heavier in taste. The soy bean sprouts are plump and crunchy and is slightly undercooked giving it a taste similar to salad. This might be a bit of an acquired taste for those not used to it. Take note there is actually a queue system and it is not free seating. This is slightly confusing as there are minimal signage to highlight this.
Y S — Google review
Located in a central area popular with tourists. I visited around 6:30 pm and only waited about five minutes in line. As it was my first dine in visit, I wasn’t familiar with the menu, but the lady taking our order seemed quite busy and rushed, there wasn’t much time to look through it properly, I just made a quick choice and skipped the side dish. The chicken was smooth and tender, and the accompanying soy sauce had a unique, delicious flavor. Overall, I enjoyed the chicken rice, just wish service had been a little better.
Vanessa T — Google review
A very ordinary restaurant, I’d never go back. I was alone so found a table easily. Server came over and threw a menu on the table. Then came back and asked what I wanted to drink. I said Beer, but they don’t sell beer, so I oped for a hot Chinese tea. The tea came out, lukewarm, in a plastic cup, with a plastic straw! Horrible. The menu wasn’t big (despite the size of the restaurant) so I just ordered the Single Chicken and rice. He wanted to sell me beansprouts but I didn’t want any. Food came out quickly and the chicken was cold….not just warm, but cold. Thankfully the rice was hot which made the meal edible. The chicken tasted ok but half of it was just fat and bones. Lots of people there, obviously tourists like me. A local would never go there, certainly not twice. I won’t go back either.
Anthony B — Google review
Visited Lou Wong during my trip to Ipoh and tried their famous bean sprout chicken. The steamed chicken was tender and paired well with the crunchy bean sprouts and smooth hor fun. Service was fast despite the crowd, and the atmosphere felt lively and traditional. However, it was quite hot and crowded inside, and the food, while good, felt a bit overrated compared to other local spots. Still, it's worth a visit if you want to experience one of Ipoh’s iconic eateries.

Assam Laksa @ Big Tree Foot (Dai Shu Geok) is a must-visit spot in Ipoh, Perak. Located in the neighborhood of Pasir Panji, this renowned eatery offers an array of delectable Yong Tau Foo dishes that are beloved by locals and visitors alike. The restaurant's specialty, Hakka-style stuffed tofu served with curry noodles, is particularly popular among patrons.
Love the yong tau foo. The fried ones were huge and tasted better than the boiled ones . The dry noodle sauce tasted like satay sauce while the assam laksa was also very tasty. Another must try is the red bean drink. It is very thick and not too sweet. We also ordered popiah which was delicious with a lot of crispy stuff inside. Went on a weekday am. Not crowded at all.

This was my first visit to this famous noodle restaurant, even though I'm from Ipoh. I came here with my family for the first time and really appreciate how they maintain the natural aesthetic of the place, embracing its beauty. As for the food, it was good—I'm not going to lie. They offer a wide variety of fried fish balls and yong tau foo. Both the curry noodles and soup noodles were equally delicious. I’ve definitely found a new spot to satisfy my soup cravings.

Long queue next door so had lunch here 2:30pm on a Saturday. The Yong tow foo are just okay. Nothing special. The chee cheong fun was alright although the gravy was way too sweet for my liking. The red bean drink was good.

Long time haven’t been to dai shu geok since MCO. Fried yeong tau foo and the vegetables yeong tau foo are still decent and tasty. There are frequent batch of fresh fried yeong tau foo. However the laksa & red bean ice are disappointment. Rojak taste is acceptable.

Name Big Tree because situated right within few big trees. Young tao fu and asamlaksa is just average. The ice red bean is however nice.

Hmm, a bug difference from what I had many years ago. The fried items were definitely more oily, less crispy. Some items like the fried turnip were harder than I remembered. But I would still recommend going for the experience and see how it feels like under the Big Tree. For those going for the first time, just pick up a basket near the cashier, line up to pick your items and tell the cashier what noodles you want and your table number.

Whenever I visit Ipoh, I make time (& tummy space) for this place. My favourite Yong Tau Fu (a dish of various fish-paste stuffed soy products and vegetables), this shop has since split into 3 different outlets, side by side; but I find the one on the rightmost side the better one. Among the dishes, my favourite is the Sar Kok Liew (fried mashed turnip cake) & the Fried Sui Gow (meat dumplings); eaten with a bowl curry noodles. End the meal with a bowl of refreshing aiyu bing (iced jelly dessert) for a satisfying meal 😋

Additionally, they serve Western dishes and nasi kandar later in the day.
Hi good afternoon everyone! Wanna share this nostalgic restaurant/kopitiam… pork free yah as its been around for many years! Many stalls sell pork free food…variety alot from curry noodles, fried koay teow, chee cheong fun, wantan noodle, western breakfast, chicken rice, prawn noodle, Siam Laksa, toast etc kopi , teh, one stop! But i come here mostly for the authentic, traditional - Siam Laksa which is made & sold by Chris the lady owner! Best Siam Laksa I have tasted ! Price Rm8 , for me I never waste the soup … bersih till last drop! You can taste the non fishy ikan tongkol soup in the siam laksa! Fresh pudina leaves, pineapple & cucumber makes it more appetising! This place is closed every Monday & opens at 8am till finished by noon or 2-3pm! Very very popular breakfast place for all races especially the Malays! Be prepared to queue for table if it’s a weekend/public holidays! Support local please as many stalls have been there for many years & customers who have been coming here for years n never come again coz they have moved to their final rest place forever!

I’ve visited this spot for breakfast twice, both times around 8 am, and it was not too busy, so we simply walked right in. The service and atmosphere here is typical of casual eateries (kopitian) in Malaysia. Please note when I left there were a few families lining up to get in. During my first visit, I tried the Asam Laksa. It may have looked plain (I didn’t take a picture), but it was bursting with flavor! I couldn't resist coming back for a second visit to sample the Hokkien Mee (also known as prawn mee or mee udang). This time, I made sure to snap a photo before diving in. What’s great about this Hokkien Mee is that it’s made with our Muslim friends in mind, so there’s no pork in it. I genuinely think the flavor competes with some of the best I've tasted in Penang (I am from Penang)! The portion size was generous, and it looked fantastic too. Overall, I had a lovely experience at this place. Thanks for reading about my breakfast adventures!

This kopitiam really got the Malaysian feel, can see Chinese, Malay, Indian all sit together makan, very happening. The chee cheong fun quite nice, laksa also not bad got that pineapple taste, curry mee ok-ok la, quite lemak. This is the only place where you can find food from all kinds of cuisines — Chinese, Indian, Malay, and even Western, all in one spot. No need to queue this time; we got a seat right away. Today I ordered prawn chee cheong fun, fried kuey teow with egg, spicy pan mee, and two hot teas. The taste has stayed the same over the years — only the prices have changed, of course. Prices range from RM2.80 to RM8 for both food and drinks.

We went on a Monday morning so there was no queue. The nice auntie told us the puffs are good for up to one week. We drove to KL and stayed for 2 days before coming back to Singapore. The puffs were perfect after 5 minutes in the air fryer even after their long journey - thin, crispy crust, fragrant filling that is not too sweet. Very, very satisfying. Wish I had bought one more box to share with the extended family.

Chicken restaurant
IPOH Hainan Chicken Rice offers a delightful dining experience, especially for those seeking a halal version of this classic dish. The standout feature is the flavorful and tender chicken, which provides a satisfying bite. With ample portion sizes and excellent service, it's no wonder that many consider this restaurant a must-visit. Located in a former colonial building with minimalist decor, the restaurant offers delicious Hainan Chicken at an affordable price.
A must place to eat everytime we’re coming to Ipoh. I love their steamed chicken rice than roasted one. As a bean sprout’s fan, loooove their steamed bean sprout! Taugeh Ipoh is one of a kind, tiny cute and gemok2! My kid ordered wat tan hor (if i’m not mistaken) Not too salty, not too MSG. Just nice. Can smell that wok hey. 10/10!

My favourite halal chinese chicken rice in Ipoh that I truly feel is much better than the rest. In saying that, the taste is unique to Ipoh but I love the roasted chicken that is crispy yet still retains its juiciness. The steamed version is so flavourfull despite being firm to touch with a nice mouth feel. Some may say it is on the pricier side but what do you say to the portion that when you finish your rice, you still have leftover chicken. The down side is that if you want drumstick or thigh with your rice, you have to add fifty cents for each but still much less than other establishments that have the same practise. And yes do order the side dishes where the soy bean sprouts is a must. This is Ipoh after all. This shop never fails to satisfy each time we dine there.

Tried the signature roasted chicken rice, salty kailan and tofu. No doubt its delicious. Service was fast and they immediately cleared the table once the patron leaves. Price wise is ok but parking may be quite a hassle as its along the main road. Will definitely come and eat here again if I visit Ipoh again.
Ridzwan R — Google review
Once upon a time, when I was working In Ipoh, this particular restaurant was a favorite for my family members. In fact, we had been coming here ever since they first started this restaurant's operation. All my children grew up on a routine ration of hainanese chicken rice, and they turned out to be life long fans, even until today... We also know the owners very well, both the malay and the chinese ones. Rizal is such a dear friend, and I had even selected him to provide the catering for my son's Wedding Reception, 6 years ago. He is a sincere and astute businessman, who had gained high prominance in Perak, regularly trusted by the state govenment to cater for many of the official state functions. My wife had wanted to bring his brothers and sister-in-laws here for lunch yesterday. We had just finished a treatment procedure for my brother-in -law at KPJ Ipoh Hospital, hence my wife had wanted to treat everybody for lunch. We arrived at the restaurant quite early at about 11:00 am, and there were not many customers yet. My wife had requested to be seated at the long table for 8 pax at the rear part of the restaurant. We were obviously very familiar with the settings and table arrangements, as they havent changed at all since our previous Ipoh days. But unfortunately, she was denied the request, as they had been fully booked by a group from KL, who would be arriving soon in two buses...Wow, good business for Rizal, I thought... Hence, we had to settle for the smaller table for 4, located at the front portion of the restaurant, which was a bit too tight for our Party of 6. Not long after that, my wife's niece Awin came to join us for lunch. Being a well connected person in Ipoh, she went to request from the staffs to join two tables, to make it more comfortable for our Party of 7 now. But her request was also denied, as the staffs simply refused to allow for the tables to be joined, without giving any valid reason at all. When the staffs finally brought out all the foods we had ordered, it became obvious to me that the table for 4 was not sufficient enough to contain all the dishes. So, I called again the staffs to allow us to join two tables, arguing that it was not practical to limit all the dishes to only one small table. But the staffs gave me the "couldn't care less" attitude, and simply ignored my requests. I had no choice, but to prompt a text immediately to Rizal the Boss, sending some photos to him to explain the situation. Apparently, the staffs had also called him, with their version of the event. Next thing I know, Rizal had replied to my text with his profuse apology, and they staffs ended up joining the two tables right away. But no apology what-so-ever from any of the staffs... Finally, we were able to enjoy our lunch comfortably. My wife had ordered a glorious lunch for us, consisting of the Roasted Chicken Rice for most of us, and also her favorite Beehoon Soup with Sour Fish, which was a speciality by the chinese chef. We also had the Fried Buttermilk Chicken, Fried Japanese Soft Tofu, and the ever so delicious Kerabu Manggo. What was missing from our normal menu were the Lemon Chicken and Fried Ipoh Taugeh, which was Najwa's favorite... While we were fully focused on our meals, two buses had stopped in front of the restaurant. And out of these buses a huge crowd was pouring out, and walking directly inside, all of them were wearing the same light blue colored t'shirt. I noticed the name of the multinational company was written on the t'shirt, so I turned to my wife and highlighted to her, "That is the company Adam is working for" True enough, soon after that my nephew Adam walked in and gave me a big hug as soon as he saw me!! I guess this restaurant has proven to be a family favorite for us all over again, as now my brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, niece and nephew are all together for lunch. It turned out to be a memorable family gathering, albeit unplanned. And at the end of the day, without my wife realizing it, Awin had picked up the tabs...
Sazali S — Google review
They have a variety of choices. The chicken rice was nice. But the only thing missing in the menu was the pickle ginger. The waiter told us that we can only order 2 chicken thighs per table. There are 4 of us and 3 wanted to order thigh, but one gave up and chose chicken drumstick instead. Not sure why the need to have a limit quota per table.
NaRa W — Google review
Nothing great, honestly. Food was okay but portions were small, and the staff were quite rude. They charged extra (RM1) for drumstick/thigh but when I asked, staff said “peak hour, cannot choose.” Then why even offer the option the menu? Feels like one of those places that’s just busy because tourists like us come to try once. Not somewhere I’d return.
Diyana R — Google review
I don’t know why people hype this place. Taste sgt biasa, nothing special especially the soup. Tcrs lg sedap than this. Price is normal like other chicken rice shop. Not recommended because of the taste but if willing to try, why not (u will disappointed like me)

Tuck Kee Restaurant Sdn Bhd 德记酒家 is a long-standing establishment located at the intersection of Jalan King and Jalan Queen in Ipoh. Renowned for its delectable roasted meats, this Chinese restaurant is a favorite among locals, often drawing long queues at its take-away counter. Specializing in hor fun (rice noodles), Tuck Kee has been serving up these iconic dishes since 1963.
Yummy!! That’s all you need to know about this place. 😝 It was a treat by a family friend on a special occasion. They ordered all the dishes. Liked ALL the dishes. Sweet and sour pork got the approval from my son who absolutely enjoyed it. Steamed chicken was good. The other dishes looked like simple dishes but the taste and aroma was definitely beyond my expectation. Service was good. Staff friendly. Atmosphere wise can be a bit crowded… but then again good food attracts crowd. Verdict: definitely to come again. Enjoy!
Ong Y — Google review
This Tuck Kee restaurant serves a good variety of food. We ordered a mixture of meat and seafood dishes. The scallion and ginger chicken were very nice. The skin were really smooth and had good taste and texture. Very generous with the ginger and scallion. The seafood soup was nice but a little too salty. The roasted duck and char siew were good. Fish was fresh and properly steamed. The restaurant is very crowded so prior booking is recommended.
Jacob T — Google review
Shop has been around many years and people will still come for the duck. Food is consistent though not the best but some taste good enough. The curry is normal. Staff service is good though. Price reasonable.

Always a busy restaurant even during weekdays. Dishes are tasty but a bit salty to my taste. Veteran waitresses are friendly and eager to introduce their signature dishes. Overall, one of the better restaurant in Ipoh.
Ty C — Google review
Disappointed with the Service and Food Quality I recently attended wedding lunch here, and unfortunately, the experience was far from satisfactory. The food was below expectations in both taste and quality. To make things worse, the service was rushed and unprofessional. Despite the fact that our lunch was not yet finished, the staff started serving the remaining dishes in a hurry just because the restaurant was closing at 3 PM. We were still eating the 6th course when they began bringing out the rest of the dishes all at once, making us feel unwelcome and pressured to finish quickly. This kind of treatment is unacceptable, especially for a special occasion like a wedding. We expected much better and will not be returning or recommending this place to others.

Must-Try Dining Experience in Ipoh! Tuck Kee Restaurant made our family trip from Australia truly unforgettable. The suckling pig, jumbo prawns, signature roast duck, and otter dishes were absolutely delicious — every bite was packed with best flavor and high quality. Every dish was specially prepared with excellence presentation and very unique ingredients . The service was exceptional, making us feel very welcome and cared for. If you’re in Ipoh, don’t miss this unique opportunity experience . You’ll be back for more — I know we will be back again with friends .
AY A — Google review
We ordered three dishes . The first was a Lady finger's salad, reminiscent of “yee sang,” though the sauce had a slightly different twist. I found it refreshing and innovative; we genuinely enjoyed it. Unfortunately, the mixed roast platter—comprising duck, roasted pork, and char siew, didn’t quite meet our expectations. While the roasted pork was decent, both the duck and the char siew were underwhelming, bordering on mediocre. Thankfully, the fried hor fun turned things around. It was outstanding, silky smooth with excellent "wok hei" that elevated the dish. We absolutely loved it. The restaurant’s ambience was another plus. Newly renovated, the space felt fresh and inviting, making for a pleasant dining experience overall.

Came for early dinner after a late lunch. But biting into the roast duck and pork gave me my appetite back. Onion omelette is also very well done. Highly recommended. This place seems more well known for duck than the carbs.

Restoran Ipoh Kong Heng is a beloved establishment in the Oldtown area of Ipoh, known for its long-standing presence and satisfying both locals and travelers. The restaurant is famous for its signature dish, Kai Si Hor Fun, which attracts visitors with its delightful flavors. Additionally, it offers a renowned custard egg dessert that captivates diners with its heavenly combination of soft texture and luscious caramel topping.
Had the Char Kuey Teow with duck egg, super satisfying and very filling! Full of wok hei, great texture, and you can really taste the richness from the duck egg. The rojak here is also excellent, the prawn paste is thick and flavorful with crushed peanuts, and the crackers add a nice crispy contrast to the fresh fruits. Crispy popiah was just okay, nothing too special. Ended the meal with Ipoh white coffee, rich, gao, and aromatic but not jelak. A perfect finish to a great meal. Definitely a place I’d come back to!
Nicholas — Google review
Random kopitiam visited as we parked right in front of their shop. Your typical ipoh kopitiam with chicken sliced hor fun, spring roll, chee cheong fun, char kueh teow, chicken rice n not forgetting caramel custard. Food taste wise were all ok no complaints. Very generic and tastes like any shop in ipoh. Pricing now is almost on par with KL.
Lee C — Google review
Less crowded. The Chicken Prawn Kuey Teow is good, and the fat and short bean sprouts is the local signature. The white coffee and rajak is average. I preferred the richer sauce like the rojak in Bukit Mertajam. The pork satay is tough.

The duck egg cha kwey teow is soooo good! Loads of wok hey in there and all the people are so nice in the coffee shop, it was really early in the morning so it was still relatively quiet and we had a really good start to the day. The duck egg does make a big difference to binding all the ingredients together, silky noodles and generous duck egg omelette plus the fat and juicy bean sprouts elevated the whole experience. Great start to a day of food hunt! Kopi was a bit more on the sweet side so remember to ask for less sugar :)

Breakfast restaurant
Chang Jiang White Coffee in Ipoh is a must-visit spot for coffee lovers. Housed in a charming bungalow, this cafe offers luscious and smooth white coffee topped with foam for extra smoothness. In addition to the famous white coffee, visitors can savor noodle dishes, toast bread with kaya, minced meat noodles, and various Chinese items. The cafe also sells 3-in-1 white coffee sachets for those who want to enjoy it at home.
I visited around 12PM for lunch and it wasn’t too crowded. The menu book had a cute, classic old-style design that added to the charm. I ordered chicken rice, soft boiled eggs, and a hot white coffee. All were good and served within 10 to 15 minutes. I came by online taxi so I didn’t experience the parking myself, but as I was leaving, I noticed quite a few cars parked along the side of the road near the entrance. Overall, the prices were reasonable, the place carried a nice classic vibe, and the dining experience was pleasant. Definitely worth the time and money for a simple, satisfying meal.

Another nice spot to chill and enjoy a refreshing cup of iced tea. The place has a pleasant environment with cosy ambience, perfect for relaxing. The staff were friendly and welcoming, which made the visit even better. I came during the weekend and was lucky enough to get a parking spot since space is quite limited. I tried the iced milk tea, which had a rich, strong tea flavour that I really enjoyed, and the egg tart was delightful—soft and creamy inside with just the right texture. Overall, it was a satisfying experience and definitely worth a visit.

Another one of Ipoh famous breakfast location, one can consider to have breakfast here rather than at the hotel. The food choices are your typical Ipoh breakfast and it is cooked excellently and at speed. One need not need to wait for his/her orders. The restaurant opens sharp 8am and you have to queue to order at counter. Parking is aplenty and free. Plenty of seats too!. There is also a small section where you can purchase coffee and tea!

I stumbled upon a hidden gem today, perfect for a chill afternoon! ☕ This place is an old house turned into a super cozy restaurant. I was initially there for coffee, but the tea selection was a total game-changer. Surprisingly, the tea was incredibly delightful and refreshing! Definitely worth a visit next time you're around! 🏡

After a unexpected little climb at Perak Cave.. it's fortunate we found this place for a good white coffee. I choose their specialty Wangcher white coffee with kaw kaw teh. They have a good selection of toast, noodles and rice dishes. Egg tart is soft. Wifey like the sweet potato ball. Unfortunately, the ending wasn't great. We pack 3 of their specialty coffee. We discovered before leaving it's not what we wanted. They refuse to change. "key in system cannot change". I told them I have not even left the restaurant. After much blah², they finally agreed to change the pack. Staff seem divided. The young local staff that hardly talk doing the serving and the Chinese staff that kind of run the place.

Came here for brunch. The waiter recommended the hometown soup which was served with noodles. Loved the noodles and the soup. Had their white coffee and it has stronger roast taste of the coffee beans, which I like. Service wasn’t friendly. Saw several miscommunication between waiters not to me but to other customers. It was quite crowded during my visit hence the confusion occurred. It’s hard to get parking space too.
Jeevaraaj V — Google review
The food is good, and the environment is nice. It's pretty standard. The toast is really good. So is the egg tart. The wonton noodles are different from the ones in Penang. Maybe it's just trying something new.

If you're in Ipoh and craving some delicious tau fu fah, make sure to check out Woong Kee Beancurd. This popular spot offers silky smooth beancurd served with aromatic ginger syrup that creates a delightful aftertaste. With multiple outlets across the city, including Taman Jubilee, Bercham, and Menglembu, this eatery has gained quite a following on social media for its iconic beancurd.
Excellent tofufa in Ipoh town. The tofufa here is super soft and there’s many types of accompanying syrup such as normal suger, blue sugar, osmanthus sugar, brown sugar etc. there’s no indoor seatings here so everyone is sitting at the corridor to enjoy the tofufa, super awesome..! 👍⭐️. They also sells soya bean drinks with different added flavour. Highly recommended!! Truly a gem of Ipoh! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We love the beancurd here. It is just different from what we can get in KL/Selangor or even other states. Texture is so soft that it is difficult to explain in words. As we are quite full hence we are not able to try other dessert/drink. Advisable to drop by during weekday off peak as parking is quite easy and there are chairs provided at the side of the shop for dine-in.

Tau Fu Fah is real good. 4.5/5 Wanted to give 5 stars, due to the reason it is not open at 11:30am 11:30am is they start to prepare and official opening for business is 12pm. Expect long queue and 50% rate for those late comers to jump queue. Appreciated this kind of eatery still exist to serve local people. Cheap but high quality stuff. 👍
ZEB — Google review
The reviews are high for a reason! Offering a variety of sugar syrup bases for the soy bean curds that was silky smooth. There are also options for toppings. We tried the coconut sugar (gula melaka/black sugar), ginger and blue flower syrup. The ginger sugar was refreshing and the coconut sugar added a different twist to it. The blue flower didn't seem to add any different flavour profile but was unique nonetheless. The syrup was not too sweet which is great and did not mask the flavours of the bean curd. The soy milk similarly came in different varieties and was not overwhelmingly sweet.
Y S — Google review
Today tried “Michael Jackson”, tong yuan and the chrysanthemum sugar syrup- really good. Taufufa is very smooth but hope to have a lil stronger soya bean taste like the soya bean milk there. ( personal preference ) . Order and preparation is very smooth and fast.

My go to place for soya bean tau fu whenever we're in Ipoh. Why we like this place is because they offer a various flavoured sugar syrup and added toppings. Our personal favorite will be with ginger syrup and we'll add with black sesame glutinous ball. The ginger syrup gives a good taste to it without overpowering nor affecting the taste of beancurd. This time, my Mr tried with added glass jelly (cincau), however it didn't seem to tag along well. I personally feel the portion could be better. The problem at this place is the drainage that stinks

A nice hideout place in a hot and lazy or leisure afternoon. You can have hot beancurd (tau foo fah) with different types of sugar syrup and add-on (grass jelly, gingko, peach resin), or cold soy milk, as well as varieties of kuih muih... The peanut mochi is nice The ginger sugar is not as strong as I expected, but it doesn't affect the delicious soft beadcurd. It was just us when we arrived and within the next 10 minutes, the shop was full of people and all the tables were occupied. 🤗

You can get good taufufah aka beancurd here, it is soft and smooth. The price of beancurd and soy milk is not too expensive. I came here for a takeaway order, and the staff manning the counter at the time is very kind and helpful. She informed us on how soon should we finish the beancurd and how should we store it. The sugar and toppings for the beancurd is separated for takeaway order, and we can decide how much sugar to add to our own liking.

Ipoh Trip Day 1 Part 3 Still feeling full after the delicious curry mee from Yee Fatt, the tummy screamed for desserts before checking into our hotel. Remember, there's always space for desserts. Rather than the popular Funny Mountain, I suggested Big Mom Beancurd that is also selling the same thing - Taufu fah - for a change. There is also another stall selling snacks which we couldn't refuse to try. ◾Taufu Fah (Hot Beancurd) - customisable with 3 types of sugar namely white, brown & ginger; with 6 toppings available... while we agreed that the taufu fah here was not as smooth as Funny Mountain's, it was still good and we could add toppings such as red beans, peanut & sesame, ginkgo, peach resin and grass jelly. ◾peanut mochi aka loh mai chi was good with thin skin and sweet & savoury peanut fillings. ◾cucur udang & glutinous rice made up for the kids who didn't eat curry mee earlier. ◾Herbal Jelly to cool down the body under the sweltering heat. ◾Soy Milk without sugar for on the road. With proper tables and chairs, this place is more convenient to enjoy a bowl of taufu fah.

Ipoh Tong Sui Kai, also known as Dessert Street, is a bustling food street in the heart of Ipoh. It's a haven for dessert lovers, with numerous stalls offering a wide variety of sweet treats such as shaved ice, ABC, and soybean pudding. In addition to desserts, there are also stalls selling savory dishes like wanton mee and grilled fish. The street is popular for its vibrant atmosphere and the availability of mouth-watering yet affordable local dishes.
Stall 26 Curry Noodles (My26 CurryMee) - I had one of the best curry noodles in Ipoh tonight. The broth was rich, creamy, and full of flavor—just the right balance for someone like me who can’t handle overly spicy food but still enjoys a little kick. The curry came generously loaded with big, juicy cockles, which were absolutely delicious. What impressed me even more was the service. The owner was incredibly attentive—she went around offering free refills of the curry broth and genuinely made sure every customer was well taken care of. When she noticed I was wearing a white shirt, she thoughtfully handed me a plastic bib to protect it from splashes. Delicious food, warm hospitality, and thoughtful service—highly recommended

Ipoh Tong Sui Gai is really more about the lively atmosphere than anything else. Tried the mixed fruit ice at stall 27 — for RM11 the portion was generous, and though it usually comes with a scoop of ice cream, we skipped it. Stall 28’s grilled squid was a tasty snack to munch on while chatting, and Miss Rabbit’s satay was juicy and not dry at all, though the peanut sauce could have been better. Overall, fun spot if you’re here for the vibes and variety.

Ipoh Tong Sui Kai offers an authentic and delicious late-night hawker experience. Highlights include the creamy, richly flavoured Curry Noodle (especially at popular stalls like No. 26), and a satisfying Satay selection with yummy & soft meat, often paired with BBQ wings. The Fried Kway Teow is a solid choice for its 'wok hei' flavour, and the famously pungent Smelly Tofu provides a quintessential, crispy street food adventure, all available from evening until late. You must have a strong stomach!

The place is old and a bit quiet during Monday cos lots of the hawkers choose to rest on Monday. The place isn’t that conducive and hygiene can be improved a great deal. Selections of food is pretty good but neither of them standout against others. Would come back here next time during some weekend or holiday season to enjoy better vibe.

Headed to "Tong Shui Gai" to try the eateries we eyeballed and "bookmarked" the night before! The Rojak was very similar to our "Fruits Rojak" in Singapore, but they use Crackers instead of YouTiao, which was an interesting difference! They also drizzle a little Sesame Oil onto their Pidan, which actually ate well too! The other we tried here was their Curry Pig Skin Chee Chong Fun. Overall, not too different from what you would get back home. Simple and the "noodles" were silky. Lastly, [MrQ Chow Tofu] Smelly Tofu 😍. We could smell this from a distance away! And even though we were stuffed from dinner, we had to have one. This fella is a maestro in his own right. He does it Taiwanese style, but he fries his absolutely aromatic and fragrant tofu cubes in 2 ways. ½ with a crisp outside but with still a soft pillowy interior, and another just crispy. The chilli has a kick and those pickled cabbage on top of everything helps balance out the grease, and stench of the star!

A long stretch of food stalls (up to 50 stalls) along the road. Gets difficult if it’s raining because the shade is quite short extending over the main road. Pedestrians has to share road with the cars so be careful if you are traveling with young children or elderly. Beef noodles (stall 47) very distinct beef flavour but not too over powering. This stalls operate on Thursday to Saturday only and finishes by 7pm. Come early! Saw alot of locals eating from this stall. Beef ball RM1/ball. A bowl of noodles RM7/ bowl. Wan Tan Mee (stall 44) very lard-y wan tan mee with QQ wan tan mee. Not very generous with their siew yoke meat but noodles overall is good. RM7/plate Mix fruit (stall 8) watermelon, honeydew and mango with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Simple dessert and ice is a little rough. Fruits are sweet, well selected. RM11/ bowl.

Chicken restaurant
At Restaurant Sam Ma in Ipoh, you can savour juicy and tender Kampung Chicken, pork balls, and crunchy bean sprouts with fragrant and fluffy rice. The sauces are not too salty, making this chicken dish one of the favourites in Ipoh.
We arrived at 210pm and surprised to see a Q. Glad that we waited as the food is worth the wait. We ordered Kampung Chicken, the chicken texture is nice. Hor fun is very smooth like jelly, the broth is flavorful. Love the chicken feet that it has the collagen like texture and well braised. This meal cost us RM72 for 4ppl, it's good value for money.
Lily G — Google review
I must say - the food here is fabulous. Prices are reasonable. Have ordered kampung chicken - surprisingly its not that tough, the taste and balance is good. Chicken feet is heavenly - collagen just slip off, and is well braised. Fishballs are springy, with tell tale signs of a handmade fishball. A little letdown is the beansprout - can taste it raw even with soya sauce.
Benjamin C — Google review
Sam Ma Chicken Rice is definitely one of the better spots in Ipoh for a satisfying plate of chicken rice. The chicken was tender and juicy, with just the right balance of flavor. The rice was fragrant and not too oily, and the chili sauce packed a nice punch. The portion size is good for the price, and service was quick and friendly even during the lunch rush. The only small downside is that the place can get quite crowded, and parking around the area can be tricky.
Christine B — Google review
Food was good but nothing special. Was a bit too oily for my taste. We had steamed chicken, meat/fish balls, noodle soup, rice and both the veggie options. Long queue but it moved very fast! Don’t be discouraged when you arrive.
Camilla T — Google review
I passed by this restaurant and thought of giving it a go especially after seeing how crowded and was featured on some of the travel & food vloggers videos. I really enjoyed my meal here and here are my highlights: - It was close to a half hour wait in a queue. All patrons will in queue are to write 4 random numbers, which the staff will call out when a table is available. The staff also will provide a menu to see what you may be interested to order. - Order is placed with the staff. - We had half a kampung chicken without any rice or noodles. The chicken is truly tasty with a nice firm succulent texture. It was very enjoyable and good on its own without needing rice or noodles. The chicken didnt have too much fatty bits, which was very nice to have. The sauce is tasty and different to some of the other chicken places i have tried in Ipoh. - The ginger and chilli condiments were delish. Chilli had the right heat and the ginger was fragrant with a good level of gingery heat too. - Ths bean sprouts was a nice complement. - They keep the restaurant sufficiently cool with the air conditioner that even with a full restaurant it neither felt stuffy or warm. A big plus for me. - Cash is accepted. Not sure bout other forms of payment. This is a place I would recommend for good Ipoh style chicken.
J F — Google review
The chili sauce and ginger paste are super ginger-y. If you love ginger, this is the chicken rice for you. Rice is not dry and well seasoned with a good big portion. However not much chicken if you order normal chicken rice. The bean sprouts texture got that CRONCH. excellent taugeh
Sulaiman — Google review
The kampung or free range chicken was delicious, flavorful and tasty. We ordered a whole chicken plus the famous Ipoh bean sprouts and pork and fish ball. We also ordered a side dish of braised chicken feet and were pleasantly surprised at how delightfully tasty it was. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed the food and will definitely return.
May C — Google review
A little detour from the all the famous Ipoh town chicken rice shops. Personally I feel this is one of the nicest place for Ipoh tauge chicken Rice though may not be the best yet. It's a nice and clean restaurant. Ordering and serving is pretty quick. We ordered the ¼ chicken, tauge, mix of pork and fish ball, rice and kuew teow soup with hot Chinese tea and kumquat drink. All came to RM 43.25. The accompaniments of chilli and ginger was a great match. While everything was good, the downfall to us was the bowl of soup which had an awful and very strong chicky smell and taste to it that didn't suite our pallet. The same goes for the kuew teow soup. The fish ball tasted okay and passed the bouncy and chewiness however the meatball was just average. This place can get crowded and therefore, no lingering around once you're done with meal..the waiter immediately comes to clear the table for next customer.

Nestled near the stunning Tasik Cermin (Mirror Lake) Ipoh, Kin Loong Valley Chang Jiang White Coffee is a hidden gem housed in a traditional wooden building surrounded by breathtaking limestone karsts. The picturesque setting and wooden structure give it an ancient inn vibe from martial arts movies. It's an ideal spot for coffee aficionados to savor their must-try Ipoh white coffee and delectable kaya toast.
The establishment offers a delightful experience, particularly for those seeking their specialty. Their Ipoh town white coffee is a treat, known for its distinct flavor and aroma. Accompanying the coffee, a diverse selection of snacks is available for your enjoyment. Furthermore, patrons can indulge in the remarkable views the location provides. Overall, it's a place designed to offer a pleasant and memorable time.
Nolan B — Google review
The food quality is rather bad and pricey, the rice with just some minced chicken and fried onion is pretty dry, the curry noodle is so oily and only serves wanton noodle (no other choice of noodles). The toasted bread is not bad but pricey as well. And the so called famous white coffee just only a small mug pour over into a full jug of ice cubes isn’t any better compared to other kopitiam. The environment is clean but quite hot.
Jackie C — Google review
The queues were far too long, and after reading a few negative reviews, we decided it wasn’t worth the wait. Instead, we made our way to a nearby valley owned by Kin Loong. The place turned out to be a hidden gem. Within the valley lies a mini cave, accessible only by climbing a set of steep stairs. The short but challenging climb was definitely worth the effort, rewarding us with a unique experience. There’s also a pond within the area—though I’m not sure of its name, it is strikingly deep and adds to the natural charm of the valley. The surrounding air is refreshingly cold, creating a calm and relaxing atmosphere that makes the whole visit memorable. A great alternative if you’re looking to avoid long queues and still enjoy a nature-filled escape.
Anime E — Google review
The atmosphere here was so beautiful and instagramable. You have to sit inside to experience the cave kind of feel. The place is ok nice but the food ok ok only. The wantan noodle not the authentic type. For me the portion was so little. The coffee nice, the soft boiled egg nice. I order toast with butter and kaya too, i don’t know why it taste a bit salty. The butter and kaya should balance but for me it was on salty side. Last the food wasn’t hot. The coffee not hot… Can visit for atmosphere not for the food.
Komathi B — Google review
Ipoh Chang Jiang Coffee is a nice spot with air conditioning, which is really good especially since outside weather is so hot. We tried the coffee and cham, both tasted really good. It’s a comfortable place to rest, relax and chit chat with friends or family, especially after visiting Tasik Cermin. Overall a recommended stop in Ipoh.
Kai Y — Google review
If you're looking for a peaceful escape surrounded by nature, Kin Loong Valley is the perfect spot to chill and recharge. Nestled near the stunning limestone hills of Tasik Cermin, this café offers a unique blend of scenic beauty and nostalgic charm. Nice Chang Jiang White Coffee—smooth, aromatic, and just the right amount of sweetness. I also tried the Wangher Crossover, a coffee-tea mix that was surprisingly refreshing. The kaya butter toast was a comforting classic, though I wish it had been a bit crispier.
YippieYaYa — Google review
Stop here for afternoon coffee while on the way back from Penang to KL. Very disappointed with their service and foods quality. Kaya butter toast bread and coffee considered okay, but sweet potato balls no good. They just don’t border to serve it on plate. The waitress just put it on the table without fork n walk away. U have to look for it 🍴 for yourself.
Teh H — Google review
This was my first visit to Kin Loong Valley and had to have the infamous Ipoh white coffee from this cafe. This seems to be a popular spot for locals and tourists as it was pretty packed for the weekend on a very hot humid day. Highlights of this place for me: - Location: Though not within Ipoh city, it is within a reasonable distance to travel by car. Loved the fact that the establishment is nestled within nature; next to a cave and within walking distance from Tasik Cermin 2. - Parking: It is shared parking space for visitors of the nearby cave, petting zoo and Tasik Cermin. There are plenty of parking spots but they do get filled up very quickly. - Service: Staff members were able to clarify and guide through the menu items that we were unfamiliar with. - Ambience and decor: love the rustic & antique decor all around the cafe/ restaurant complementing the timber elements used for the walls, flooring & beams. Noise levels were manageable including when there was live singing just outside the establishment. - Accessibility & family friendly: There were no uneven or unlevel flooring, which makes it welcoming to those who have mobility issues or in a wheelchair. When I was there, lots of multi-generational families who were there. They establishment has baby chairs available for younger children. - Orders are placed and paid at the cashier. Cash & e-payment accepted. Not sure bout credit cards. - Drinks: The white coffee was rich, fragrant and tasty. Totally enjoyed from start till the last drop. - Food: Egg tarts were decent, toast was crispy but I was expecting more kaya and fried wantons were decent as well. It was a pretty good experience that I enjoyed. Definitely worth coming out here for this cafe or when visiting the nearby attractions.

Dessert shop
Hong Kee Mah Chee is a charming little stall in Ipoh known for its homemade Muah Chee, a must-try local delicacy. The owners are praised for their meticulous preparation of the dish, kneading it thoroughly after cooking it in an old ceramic pot. Located in a residential area, this hidden gem offers delicious Muah Chee with chopped peanuts and peanut sweet soup. Customers rave about the springy texture of the Muah Chee and the rich flavor of the peanut soup.
LOVE THEIR muah chee mix into the peanut paste. Paste is SOOOO smooth! Their muah chee peanut is crushed manually. Learnt that they are 4th generation! Amazing! Do drink the coconut 🥥 from the roadside stall a few metres away from this muah chee.
Ling J — Google review
As someone from Ipoh, I’ve loved their peanut sweet soup (花生糊) since I first tried it 8–9 years ago—it used to be incredibly rich and satisfying! However, my visit today was disappointing. The soup was noticeably watery, a stark contrast to its former quality. Personally, I’d rather see a slight price increase than a drop in quality. Unfortunately, I can’t recommend it anymore.
M — Google review
Extremely small portion extremely high price, taste is terrible, a real tourist trap. Rm4 per box, 10 piece mah chee, first time i buy mahchee can count how many pieces given. Peanut soup 15 spoon finish. Worse of all its diluted with strong chlorine taste tap water. Highly discouraged.
William F — Google review
I can't remember my last visit here but this small stall has been here like forever. There are some concrete benches for dine-in. Only 2 items on the menu...peanut paste and traditional muachi (mochi). Love the thick consistency of the peanut paste. Perfect sweetness. Muachi was too sweet for me. Portion was small. Great service.
Leanie T — Google review
Rm4 each.. abit pricey for home hut but peanut soup is really smooth..and we got the last 2 portion of the mochi... my kids enjoyed it..

Rm4 for ma chee ... Wow.... So "cheap"... The chee mah wu: taste plain.. PLS REINSTATE YOUR GRAND GRAND GRAND Parent's STYLE if you still want to continue this business. It’s all about finding the right balance between quality and affordability, without losing that original charm.
Woon C — Google review
My friends and I enjoyed their mochi so much so that we went back the 2nd day before heading home. The boss recommended to dip our mochi inside peanut paste & it doesn’t disappoint us at all.

Very nice!!!! First time eating warm muachee and it was so good 🥹🥹 The uncle was very polite and nice, and they even had a cute doggo indoors! I would say is a must try👍🏼 Even tried to go back to find it the next day but too bad it was closed because we went after six 😭😭 For sure will come back again! Ipoh White Coffee Sun Yuan Foong Coffee Shop 新源豊怡保旧街場白咖啡茶室 is a must-visit spot in Ipoh, known for its authentic white coffee. Situated on Jalan Bandar Timah, this old town coffee shop offers a unique blend of white coffee that has made it famous among locals and tourists alike.
My go to place for awesome coffee and the softest, smoothest chee Cheong fan… 2 of each please! Forget the ambience, it’s your old school coffee shop filled with the chatter of folks dining in. It’s all about the food and the coffee!! The star of the show is the coffee… that’s all you need to know. Word of advice, order it as “less sweet”… and order 2 of it! One is never going to be enough…. Only downside to this place, finding a parking!
Jeeves V — Google review
old school kopitiam located in Ipoh Old town. I liked the酿豆腐 yong toufu. u can choose ur favourite yong toufu den cooked v noodles, or only yong toufu in soup. tourists attraction area, so the food price is slightly higher than other local kopitiam, but it is still acceptable.
Giselle L — Google review
White coffee, kaya toast are very nice. Caramel custard is very smooth and over sweet. We also had Cheung fun, very smooth and delicate. Yong tofu is also very tasty. It’s a great place for a light lunch or snacking
Jessie W — Google review
This shop only have 1 stall selling numerous choices of food like curry noodle, soup noodle, chee cheong fun, etc with a limited selections of fried stuff and yong tau fu. Portion generous. Curry soup taste is ok but not my favourite. Heard their coffee is good. If you like food from next shop or opposite, you can order and they will bring over serve you. Recommended.
LIONG M — Google review
I came to this shop twice, the reason was the same, because it’s 2 famous neighbour too crowded, I didn’t want to wait. An classic old kopitian, to have a classic Ipoh breakfast, it serve the local people, not the tourist. I like the curry noodle, just like the local people, quick breakfast and continue to work, this experience isn’t the famous neighbour can provide.
NG B — Google review
Not much crowded compared to the 2 famous kopitiam located in the neighborhood. Old traditional Chinese style coffee shop that serves nice toast bread & Ipoh coffee. There is 2 stalls in front of the shop and some people are ordering from the stalls next door too. Price is rather reasonable. Staffs were a little rude and not attentive to customers.
Striker F — Google review
I was trying to get into its next door neighbour but the queue deterred me. But boy what a serendipity. I enjoyed my breakfast here. Service was friendly and efficient. We ordered curry mee, yong tau foo, and toast with soft boiled egg. Oh, it'd be a crime to not order the famous White Coffee. Curry mee: It packs a punch butnot overwhelming. The texture of the noodle is firm. And the bowl comes with a fried pig skin soaked in curry. Delicious! Yong Tau Foo: Thumbs up for the homemade meat balls. Toast with soft boiled egg: Not my favourite. The toast is neither toasty nor soft. White Coffee: Yep, I like this. It’s flavourful but not too sweet. Pro tip: I saw a few patrons ordered wanton mee from the more crowded coffee shop next to this and brought it to this coffe shop. I suppose as long as you order some food from this place, the owner will not chide you for doing that. Malaysian hospitality at its best.
Henry C — Google review
[sibeh holiao] 1) overall - hawker style, limited choices of food but their toast, coffee and Chu cheong fun was ultimately good, parking will be an issue, okay cleanliness for Sun Yun Foong 2) peanut kaya toast - creative combination and it tasted very good, overflowing peanut butter sauce was really no joke, it was insanely good and generous, toast was thick and full of flavours 3) mixed sauce Chu cheong fun - famous for curry CCF but it was sold out, tried mixed sauce and it was awesome too, full of flavours from the caramelised onion, minced pork with mushroom sauce, CCF was silky smooth too. Thumbs up 4) Kopi c - pretty good white coffee, silky smooth too.

So so hakka noodle. Had better hakka noodle than this. Tasteless fish and meat balls.
Pk C — Google review
1. Unlike other food stall or restaurant, they hardly give chance to customer to select the amount of meat balls or tauhu. It just like convenient for the senior boss to calculate the final bill, one person order a Hakka mee with standard 5 meatballs, as a customer, it's like you could have the freedom to select whether you want just 3 pieces instead of 5. 2. Don't expect this as the 'original hakka mee', the way they prepare it, IT'S NOT. Inside full of soy, where the original Hakka mee doesn't made such way. For original, check out around Pasir Puteh. Google it and you'll find one or two. 3. There's is plenty of hakka mee which is much tastier than this one. The reason it could stands for years purely there is less competitors in early years compares today. Once old and long reputation been set, there is always a bunch of loyalty old customer who keeps ob supporting and promote. 4. Suppose we goin to rate 2 instead of 1, this is the main factor why we downgrade it to 1 star. MANNER. The senior boss who takes order and collect money was like giving the customer a bossy face and reaction, furthermore without saying a simple thank you when we settling the bill. Thumbs down.
DREGS T — Google review
