You can smell the aroma of the freshly baked bread from a distance. Bought a couple of items to try, their signature miso bread, melon bun and a packet of milk (apparently this milk is specifically made to pair it with bread!). I prefer the melon bun to the miso bread, the latter is just alright.

It’s very popular as it is located at Candy Lane amongst other touristy shops. Directly across from it is their sandwich shop with some seats on the second level. Thick jiggly pancakes have been the rage in Japan for the past decade or so, but to be honest I find that they taste very plain on their own and often crave more traditional pancakes.
I happened to be in Kawagoe and decided to give this place a try. I ordered the bacon and egg set for breakfast and it far exceeded expectations. The egg was perfectly fried, and while the bacon wasn't crispy (hard to find anywhere selling crispy bacon in Japan), it was very tasty. However, the main star was the pancakes, which were soft and fluffy with a hint of crispiness on the edges. Pretty sure they used buttermilk too, but might be wrong. They were so good that I almost wished I had just ordered them plain. I do think they would be even better if just a tad thicker, but it is still the best pancake I've had in Japan!
The set I ordered was 770 yen (tax included) and includes a drink (coffee, tea, juice) and some fruit.

My personal favorite was the salmon dish with crispy skin and creamy rice. I still can't get it out of my head! They even surprised us with a sweet anniversary greeting during dessert. 💕

A cute and sleek cafe which you definitely need to visit. The decoration is beautiful and it's a great place to relax for a bit. A little thing to note, their tiramasu is mainly cream which I wasn't expecting, but delicious overall.
A little bit of peace and quiet in bustling Kawagoe. Modern, upscale cafe with delicious desserts. A little bit expensive, but worth it. One of only a handful of places in Kawagoe with a terrace. Contemporary cafe in a 160 year old garden. In the same complex there is a restaurant and a wedding hall / banquet hall.
The gardens are out the back of the wedding hall and if there is no wedding on you are allowed to roam around. Every single time I've been though, there has been a wedding on! It seems a popular place for them. In the cafe there is a terrace out front, which is smoking. Inside is non-smoking. The coffee is good.

Price is not so expensive and service is not bad. Be careful, they only accept cash. This is really inconvenience though.

Cafe TOROCCO is a charming spot located in an Edo-style town known as 'little Edo.' It's advisable to make reservations in advance as this popular meal tends to sell out quickly. The cozy ambiance allows guests to relax on high stools or raised tatami seats while enjoying the delightful atmosphere.
Finding a place that has a dish so good that it feels like love is like finding a pearl in an oyster.
I am happy to report that I have found that pearl and must confess...I think I am in love.
Café TOROCCO is an ABSOLUTE must-visit.
Café TOROCCO specializes in sweet potato mini kaiseki, a traditional Japanese meal brought in courses. Kaiseki ryori tends to be quite expensive, but as this is a "mini" kaiseki, you will find that the price is quite reasonable; only 2,200 yen. Another big difference is that instead of being served in courses, all the dishes come out at the exact same time, except for the dessert. Only a certain amount of sweet potato mini kaisekis are served in a day, so make sure to make a reservation. This can be done online or by phone.
Before I go on to gush about the meal I do want to mention something that I found lackluster, and that is the interior/seating. Being situated in the heart of Koedo and with part of the building being of the traditional warehouse style (蔵造り), I was expecting a more eye-catching and elegant interior. Instead, it felt more like walking into a small café that has only a handful of spots to sit at. Not a deal breaker by any stretch, but it does feel like a missed opportunity.
Now, on to the food. When ordering the mini kaiseki, you get to choose between two beverages: hojicha tea with matcha or a sweet potato and umeshu cocktail. There is definitely a right choice and that's the sweet potato and umeshu cocktail. Never would I have thought that sweet potato and Japanese plum would pair so well with each other and since it is umeshu, it does not have a strong alcohol taste, so it feels like you are having the most delectable juice. I ended buying a bottle of this cocktail. It really was that good. You are given a small card, in Japanese or English, with the name of all the menu items. As you might have guessed, every single dish is made using sweet potato as an ingredient. Not a single dish was a miss. Some of my favorites were the tofu salad with sweet potato and the steamed sweet potato rice. However, it was the sweet potato potage soup that left me speechless. While a good bowl of miso soup warms the soul, this sweet potato potage soup embraced it. The consistency and the slight hints of sweetness were masterfully crafted and perfectly brought together into a single bowl. I would make the trip to Kawagoe just for a bowl of that soup. To round out the meal, you are served sweet potato ice cream. It is delicious and refreshing.
Café TOROCCO is part of a ceramics and pottery store with a long history. When making a reservation, there is a set offering a pottery making lesson with the kaiseki for those who want to make it a longer experience. Oh, and they offer a 100 yen discount if you go wearing a kimono/yukata.

A good way to spend your day trip to Kawagoe. Note: if you hate sweet potato, turn around and run! They specialise in sweet potatoes!
Arrived without a booking on a busy Thursday afternoon but they took our name down for a group of 6 (1 hr wait!). Gave us time to explore the surroundings small streets.
Its ¥2200 for the set menu, food was delicious and tasty, my favourite was the soup but towards the end was a bit too much sweet potato!
You finish off with ice cream and roasted tea which was also nice.
Service is impeccable as usual in Japan. Would I come back again, probably no. But I definitely didn't regret trying this place out.
The whole meal was delicious and unique. Would highly recommend for anyone visiting Kawagoe as sweet potato is their specialty. You can get a 100 yen discount per set if you have the Kawagoe discount pass. Reservations can be made through messaging them on facebook.
We came without a booking and had to wait about 40 minutes for a table at lunch time. They only serve sweet potato mini kaiseki for lunch, which tasted pretty good. It was enjoyable trying sweet potato prepared in various ways, but if you’re used to or prefer eating meat with your meals, this would probably not taste as good to you as the only meat included in the set was a single piece of shrimp in the gratin and a single small chunk of chicken in the soup. The set meal was overall pretty carb-heavy, since the dishes were all sweet potato after all.
Authentic japanese cuisine served in the traditional way, posh and delicious. The staff is courteous and professional. Must try the seasonal menu made with sweet potatoes. The sweet potato tea is heavenly, i regret not buying some to bring home with me.

🍱 The food itself is honestly incredibly delicious! I really like the idea that they incoprorate sweet potatoe in each dish. My favourite was the Miso-Sweet Potato soup, it was so smooth and had the perfect balance of sweet and savoury. I personally didn’t get to try the Gratin but based on some friends they said it was the weakest link in the set. A dessert it also included (which I also didn’t get to try *cries in lactose intolerance*) and this was really good according to the others in my group.
🏢 The atmosphere is cute and right next to it is a small temple that is absolutely precious. Moreover, inside the restaurant they cell assorted pottery and the designs are unique, cute and beautiful!
💴 In terms of price it is quite reasonable considering the amount of food you get and the quality. Additionally the service is quite quick and efficient. Definitly worth the price.

Akariya Kawagoe Sweet Shop is a traditional cafe located near Hon-Kawagoe Station, offering a wide selection of Japanese sweets such as Oshiruko and Anmitsu. Just a better taste especially with a traditional noodle in Japan what is called "Udon（うどん；ウドン；饂飩）",
and a shaved ice or a Japanese-style parfait as the dessert in Kawagoe city, Saitama prefecture.
Great spot for anmitsu and other Japanese desserts for both dine-in and takeout! Has lunch/dinner options as well. Definitely recommend trying the different varieties of anmitsu, some of which are plant-based.
Try the soybean-sesame oil udon (790 yen as ala carter during lunch time)! It's so unique and delicious. The soup tastes slightly milky but mainly aromatic because of sesame oil. The udon is also pleasantly chewy. My only complaint on this dish would be its lack of poutry. The amount of minced chicken is so little once compared to its noodle. This restaurant is popular but tiny. So, don't go there when you are very hungry and it's meal time. You can expect at least 10 minutes of waiting time.
I visited here during the Kawagoe Matsuri. This is a great little place to take a rest after walking half of the route. The Japanese dessert is just like how it looks on the photo, as expected it’s a bit too sweet for me because of the red bean mash. But highly recommended if you like sweet.

A classic store specialize in tea, we ordered a cup of floating mike tea and a today special set which includes a dessert and a beverage of either tea or coffee, we chose ice black tea by the way.
Strong recommend to order the floating milk tea, you will like the creamy and thick milk flavor brewed with fine tea.
As for the set we got a tea brewed set with hour glass, milk, sugar, pot of hot water, black tea and a full cap of ice! Really enjoy to have self-brewed tea here with dessert, the sweet potato cheese tart with chocolate ice cream which is also good but not too sweet.

3 stars is generous for a pricey place like this. The errors are, however, easily correctable if they choose to do so.
I'll start with the smallest drawback. That is, the toilet room. It could at least do with a fresh paint job. The walls look quite neglected. The lack of a washlet also makes me think the shop is not owned by a regular Japanese person, along with two other points.
There is no flavor profile description about the various teas inside the menu. It would be nice if there were such descriptions.
Last, and funniest of all. When serving a pot of tea, any tea shop worth its salt should make sure to do 1 of 2 things. Either prepare an appropriate brew of tea before serving it in a teapot OR give the customer the option of brewing the leaves later by separating hot water in a flask. (The latter is very common in Japan.)
What you should absolutely never do is have loose leaf tea still brewing in the tea pot the whole time. The little egg timer they give alongside the teapot makes this situation especially laughable, as if they have no idea about the concept of a teapot which allows a person to drink a second cup of tea a while later. This would only make sense if the teapot were for 2 people and not 1 person as it was in my case.
For my part, I quickly requested an additional tea cup which I was granted as if I were the first solo customer to have ever had the sense to make such a request. I was able to rescue my tea that way. I find it impossible to believe that many customers would - or even could - prefer the taste of extremely over-brewed, bitter tea on their second helping. Either they are too polite to raise it with the shop staff or they simply do not know better (possibly the latter, as the shop is located in a quite touristy part of Kawagoe).
I hope the cafe takes my comments on board and acts upon them quickly, as each one is very easy to resolve. If they did, maybe I could recommend it. But at these high prices I cannot.

Nestled behind the Kawagoe Tsubaki no Kura souvenir shop, the delightful Tsubakiya Foot Spa Tearoom offers a unique experience. It felt amazing! It was so cheap and was definitely the most unique experience I’ve had in Japan so far. The staff were so patient. The menu includes the foot bath fee so you just order something then they will tell you how much to wait for your turn. They also give you a little towel to take home. The drinks and snacks were good. The foot bath is at the back of a store selling different items with japanese fabrics and patterns. We waited for about 30 minutes to get in but they have a waiting area. You have to take off your shoes and socks and the water is very hot so it feels nice in the cold weather. It is a small space to fit about 10 people so I recommend you come early to save your spot. I really want to come back, you have to come here if you’re in the area.

The little cheese tarts are delicious, too! It's open year round and the water temperature is adjusted depending on the season. They provide blankets in the winter. Also, bring a small towel to wipe your feet at the end.
