Bar
Located in Carlisle, Thin White Duke is a trendy bar and restaurant housed in a stylishly converted monastery building. Since its establishment in 2010, it has gained popularity for serving the best burgers in the city. In addition to their renowned burgers, the eatery offers a variety of seasonal dishes ranging from classic fish and chips to flavorful curries and steaks. The bar is also known for its unique cocktails and diverse selection of gin.
After visiting the area all day round , we came across this place and decided to have a drink. So pop in. What a lively gem it is. All the staff were helpful and polite. They were offering nice drinks in cask and keg. Perfect place for din. So romantic atmosphere and happy vibes. Very well clean toilets even the whole place was awesomely great. We hope to visit it again in the future when in area. Surely recommend.

Loved this place. Great service. Menu amazing. Although no kids menu they made so much effort with my little girls and gave them small portions. Best cauliflower (burger) I've ever tasted. We live two hours away and I'd consider driving it just for that! 😄
Kara M — Google review
We were a party of 6 adults and 2 kids, who had booked a few days in advance for a Saturday afternoon lunch and a couple of drinks. We were led to a downstairs table which was perfect for our party. Great buzz around the place from the customers at other tables, with a feeling of still being quite private. Ideal for conversation with the music not overly loud. Food order was taken swiftly and drinks were brought first. We had all came down from Edinburgh with only a few hours in town, so the service was fast which we appreciated. Food was excellent, portions were plentiful and tasty. Good value for money and a wide range of menu choices. Anything left on plates was because of the volume of food!! Adult portion was halved for kids; no problem for staff to accommodate this request. Cannot fault the staff on duty on Saturday 11/10 at 14:15....I was particularly impressed with each of the staff who attended to us. Would highly recommend and would definitely travel +1hour to do it again. Well worth a visit 👍🏼

Popped in here on the off chance I might find a GLUTEN FREE choice , and I was right!! The GLUTEN FREE MENU is very impressive, lots of choice!! I went for the Spring Chicken dish which was very well cooked , very well presented, and very tasty!! I just came to Carlisle for my tea as I'd travelled from Settle on the beautiful, scenic railway, and I have to say , I made a great choice!! The staff were very helpful and polite too , which makes a refreshing change!!

My family are from Essex and we are on holiday and wanted a really good sunday roast and due to the other very positive reviews we tried this place. And i can say with full confidence that that was the best roast i have had in a very long time. I couldn’t put my fork down and i’m honestly so happy that i found this place because ei have no bad things to say about it. Staff are very friendly and very welcoming when i had a person in a wheelchair with me, they offered us use of a ramp with the front entrance and moved chairs out the way for them. They also have a disabled toilet on the lower floor and regular toilets upstairs that were really nicely decorated. The atmosphere in the place is really nice and i thoroughly recommend this place to everyone. IF U WANT THE BEST ROAST EVER COME HERE ON A SUNDAY.
Isabelle N — Google review
This place looks incredible with the exposed brickwork, copper piping lights and scene filled resin tables. Service was quick, plenty of ales on tap, food was tasty. I had the flat iron steak, cooked perfectly, my only critique would be a little over seasoned. Highly recommend.
Don M — Google review
Food was nice. Initial service from greeter made us feel like an inconvenience from the outset. Ok it was a walk in and we didn't reserve a table, simply tell us no room and we would find somewhere else. After pointed to "that table over there" by the maitre d a nice lady came over who was very polite and took ours drinks order. Then back to misery guts who asked if we were ready to order, one of us hadn't decided so he stood over us waiting for a choice and impatiently said he could start with anyone. How about get lost for 2 mins whilst we choose? Anyway the food was actually really nice. Nice lady checked on us to make sure all was ok and to ask if more drinks were needed. Good sized helpings. Sadly no room for dessert. Go back? Probably not after that welcome. Either face didn't fit or someone was having a bad day. Don't take it out on the customers fella.

Restaurant
The Griffin is a charming and well-designed tavern that features wooden decor and spans two levels. It offers traditional British cuisine that is both filling and satisfying. The establishment boasts comfortable leather seating arrangements, making it an inviting place to enjoy a meal or watch sports on the TV. The staff are friendly and accommodating, ensuring a pleasant dining experience.
We both had the senior meal option, & we both thought the meal was very good value for money. The staff were helpful and friendly. I ordered using their App. The only thing that went wrong was we got the vegetable soup instead of the tomato I'd ordered. We didn't make anything of this as the soap supplied was okay. We would certainly return if we were in the area again.

Seen reviews on Google so thought we would give it a try for some light bites Atmosphere was zero Bar staff come across as thou he couldn’t really care less Little trip to the toilet three cubicles only one had a lock and the one that did didn’t have any toilet roll Back at the table it wasn’t clean seems like a week since a cloth was run over it Food arrives as you can see from the pics Deffo not chicken shawarma more like tescos finest sliced chicken breast covered in a sauce what a don’t know a didn’t dare try The chicken strips was supposed to be salt n pepper they hadn’t seen salt or pepper in their shirt life span since leaving farm foods Asked to speak to the manager which didn’t happen got full refund Would not recommend this place to anyone even if it was last place on earth

Nice spot. Called in for a pint after dinner. While it was a quiet Tuesday evening when we called in the place felt very spacious and had a nice aesthetic and atmosphere.
Joe C — Google review
LOCALS ONLY Came in for drinks , shots and food. Bartenders were rude, and served everyone else at the bar before serving us, despite the fact we stood there for 20 minutes and were there before all of the people served before us. Only got served because a local told the bartenders multiple times we’d been standing there much longer than anyone else. It took 10 minutes to get drinks, and an HOUR for the food, which came out lukewarm. Asked the man who brought our food for napkins, he ignored us, gave us a dirty look, walked away and never returned . The bartender who looks like a discount old Amy wine house was far from friendly too. Locals served first, tourists stay away!!!!!! Wings were the size of a finger, picture attached . “pitcher of long islands” was little more than coke with ice. Highly disappointed. It’s a good reflection of the entire backwater town.

Working locally and came in to watch the football. Have been in here before and the staff are always friendly but I’ve never actually had any food here. Ordered Tacos starter and mixed grill main. Expected standard pub grub but what I got was so much better than that. The mixed grill was very good, the meat was cooked perfectly. Full credit to the kitchen staff. I will eat here again and would totally recomend eating here to anyone. Great service and great food. Definitely worth a try.

My first visit with family. At the moment, the parking area in front of the building is unavailable, so parking is either round at the station car park or under viaduct. There's a nearby taxi stand and buses round the corner. Once inside, there's an upstairs dining area and public conveniences. Our meals were a fair price and we'll presented, without too much fuss on a plate. (I don't do photos of my meal.) A right amount, without being overrated. I really enjoyed my teapot of tea, all nicely presented I would recommend for all age groups, including children, dogs are welcome, too. This place ticks the boxes.👍
Penny P — Google review
Personally, I'd avoid it if other places are available. We were a group of 9 walking in at 5pm on a Sunday. The menu was pretty poor with quite a few dishes not available. Two of the group went to order at the bar. The person behind the bar read back the order but when the receipt was checked they had deleted three items off, luckily this was caught before the food was delivered. It took quite sometime for the food to come. The beef roast was so raw it could of come off the cow just before plating up. This was feedback to the staff but nothing was done about it. The scampi was undercooked and greasy, that was sent back. The chicken strips were over cooked and tough but not sent back. The Mac & Cheese and the garlic bread were decent. The staff whilst not overly rude definitely made their feelings clear about us.
Daniel C — Google review
The bar staff - Laura and Emily - were very attentive - and quick too. The food was delivered very promptly, and when it arrived it hit the spot perfectly. Atmosphere was low key and conducive to conversation. No problems finding a table either.

Wonderful experience with brilliant staff. Felt very welcomed and attended too. If you fancy an afternoon cocktail session this is the place to be. Karen was especially a super star! x

Had a beautiful pint of guiness here as a Irish women I'm hard to please and let me tell you the fella Ollie did well I mean speaks for itself. Staff are so lovely and atmosphere on a Saturday was unreal good shout if visiting Carlisle! Thank you
Rebecca R — Google review
Cracking little bar, nice location and friendly staff. We had a few drinks here the other weekend whilst celebrating our anniversary and bumped into some old pals so were there for quite a while, felt right at home - it is small, it can get busy - as can any bar. Everyone was having a good time and the atmosphere was mint
Richard S — Google review
First visit late on a Friday night. The staff were fabulous, friendly and helpful. A very good choice of gins, where I was able to try one that was new to me. It's located at the top corner of Botchergate so perfect for watching the world go by. Located opposite the Citadel it's a great first stop off the bus or train. It's a small bar, but set out well to maximise space. It was clean and tidy too. As it was still warm we chose to sit outside, where staff checked on our needs and advised us of last orders. I am definitely going to visit again as I feel I could easily while away time relaxing here.

We visited a couple of nights ago while in the area. The staff were super friendly, drinks reasonably priced and the board games were a great touch! The decor of the place is super pretty too. Thoroughly enjoyed our night. Will definitely be back if we visit the area again. Thank you!
Victoria H — Google review
We initially loved this bar on our day out in Carlisle. We met here 1st and it had a great vibe. We came back late afternoon prior to getting our trains home. My daughter went to the toilet. Was gone less than 1 min and came back to our table outside. One of the bar staff came running out after her saying ‘Have you just been sick in the toilets - someone’s left lots of toilet roll everywhere’. My daughter prostrated that she’d had just been in there for a very quick pee- but the staff member was so rude. It totally ruined the bar for us and we left. Please be careful what you accuse people of! We were just having a drink before our train. Not drunk and certainly not vomiting!
Paula B — Google review
Me and my friend visited this place earlier this week. We were looking for a safe place to leave our luggages while visiting Carlisle city. We were advised at the train station to go to this bar so we did :-) there was absolutely amazing and very friendly staff who took our heavy bags and kept them safe. We could enjoy our city walk and later on we actually had some drinks before our train was scheduled. I seriously would like to recommend this bar not only for your luggage storage but also for drinks and having a good time there :-)

Pub
The Howard Arms in Carlisle has recently extended its opening hours, now welcoming guests every evening. The pub offers a wide selection of beers and delicious food, served by friendly staff who create a warm and inviting atmosphere. With its traditional decor featuring classic bench seating, stools, and historical adornments on the walls, the pub exudes an authentic charm. Despite being refurbished, it has retained its original look to maintain its historical appeal.
So glad this pub re opened after closing previously in 2023, as it has kept its elements as an old pub magnificently! This is done with the old decorations like clocks and ornaments on the shelves, as well as shiny gold lining. The counter is very stylish with this, seating is so comfortable and I had a refreshing pint of Strongbow Dark Fruits!

Had a fantastic Sunday lunch here today. Food was lovely.. good sized portion and hot. Staff were really friendly too. Amazing all round. Will definitely visit again when next in Carlisle
Penny S — Google review
We had Sunday dinners here and was lovely. we stayed for an hour after as the staff were friendly and really enjoyed ourselves. We decided to take our friends in for dinner on Friday and were told that the kitchen had closed early. Very disappointed as we could see other had meals.

Very impressed with this quirky little pub. Immaculately clean and a nice range of drinks. We didn't eat there, but plenty of people were eating and the food looked lovely.

Visited here on Friday night and all i can say is they went above and beyond for me and a friend. I am a wheelchair user and although they don't have wheelchair access Laura and all the staff made sure my wheelchair was safe and I was able to get in. A great night was had with friendly people and we will definitely be back to visit 5 stars is not enough to describe this pub or the staff
Nancy H — Google review
Found this one by Google search. The outside is of a typical pub facade that was the fashion many years ago. Dont be put off by it appearance from the outside because it serves some brilliant meals in what is a tardis once inside. Has a one way system around the inside that works really well for these covid times we live in. Will say the chips were the best that I have tasted for as long as I came remember. Crisp on the outside and lovely soft fluffy inside. Of the meals we had nothing when to waste and there was plenty of it.
G P — Google review
A really homely vibe to this quirky pub (which is also dog friendly 👍). We were made to feel very welcome by Ethan and team. A great choice of food - totally recommend the macaroni, cheese with chorizo. Nice beer garden too. The milk churn stool is fabulous!❤️.

I like the Brickyard; it's a great little venue. Nice people and a great bar. Wheelchair access is possible via the side door. Currently, there are no accessible toilets, but I have been advised that there are active plans to convert the current performers dressing room into an accessible bathroom. That will take it from a great venue to a perfect venue.

Nestled above a historic pub in the bustling heart of Carlisle, Royal Outpost Thai & Asian Restaurant offers a delightful escape into the world of Malaysian and Thai cuisine. Since its inception in 2011, this charming eatery has been dedicated to serving soul-satisfying Asian fusion dishes crafted with fresh ingredients, aromatic spices, and tender meats. The restaurant's elegant Tudor-style decor, complete with oak-paneled walls, creates an inviting atmosphere for diners seeking both lunch and dinner options.
Lovely Thai restaurant with friendly staff. Booked last min as was passing through and was impressed with the quality of food. Pad Thai and the fire cracker chicken were both really nice. Parking is a little difficult as you have to park at the lane at the side of the restaurant. Will definitely go back when in the area. Some good offers on during the week of 2 main courses for £30.

The atmosphere, service and food at Royal Outpost are all top notch! I was visiting Carlisle for a project and happened across this treasure. My prawn and pork belly starter (yes I ordered two don’t judge me) was delicious and decadent, and the beef so tender and wholesome with spice and flavour. If you are visiting Carlisle, make this your stop. If you’re not, it’s worth the trip!

We came to Carlisle from Glasgow for the first time, over the weekend! Obviously we haven't booked anything for the evening 🫣 walk in and we're amazed! Good for wee ones as well! P.S. Of course we had to had dessert 😀, unfortunately the wee one already started the Sticky toffee pudding before talking a picture! Outside area and 2 levels inside ready to welcome you! Worked as a chef for 18 years and it's really hard to impress me 😅 but they managed! Well done and thank you! 🤗

Visited on Sunday for the full Sunday roast beef dinner one of the best I’ve eaten x3 large slices of beef and all the trimmings additionally a cauliflower cheese that was divine in a separate side dish but included in the price . OT had the steak burger and he wasn’t disappointed. Service was very attentive and cheerful staff . background music playing created a relaxed vibe .

A Sunday train to Carlisle, a brief escape on a grey, windy afternoon. A short stroll led us to The Last Zebra - a name that promises something a little different, and a modern, lively interior that delivers. It's busy, popular, and suits almost any company. Service was a highlight: our Canadian server, with her soft English and warm manners, made the visit even brighter. Food was quick, simple and well done. A charming spot to linger over a meal or simply watch the world go by. As for the name, it's cheeky, memorable, and entirely justified. The Last Zebra isn't just the last of its kind; it's one you'll hope to see again. ✨🦓

We came here on a recommendation from a lady at the military museum in the castle and we are so glad we did! The best food we had all week and very good service too. We had halloumi fries, broccoli and green beans with Parmesan, chunky fried fish as a three dishes deal (£26) plus chicken kebabs. Really great beers too
Claire J — Google review
We booked here after our usual place was fully booked on a Sunday. We were seated quickly by the polite staff. We ordered 3 different drinks from the juice bar section of the drinks menu , that arrived promptly, and were beautiful! When the waitress came to take our order, we were disappointed to hear that the lamb and chicken Sunday roasts had sold out, this was a bit of a blow because that's exactly why we'd gone in, it would have been appreciated if we had been told about this before we had ordered the drinks, it was only 3pm, but guessed that they may have been previously very busy. Myself and my husband opted for the beef dinner, my daughter opted for the chicken karaage. When dinner arrived, it was presented well, it looked very appealing. It tasted nice, but would have been nicer if it had been warmer, so slightly disappointed .My daughter loved and recommends the chicken. Overall the decor was tasteful. The staff were really polite and friendly but we felt that the food was a bit of a let down. Drinks were amazing though. So we may give this place another go, but maybe earlier on in the day!

Not all Green King pubs are the same. The food at this one is a cut above. Fresh herbs and chillies. Really well prepared. Also, a better selection of ale than the norm. Pet friendly too

Good pub. Nice big bar, good for watching sports. Friendly staff. Family friendly. Food is pretty good, it's Greene King menu. Cheaper drinks when football on using the Greene King sports app. Also can get plenty of free drinks with it.

Food is consistent, and reasonably priced. Standard pub fare. Loud on game days, and difficult to get a table, which is to be expected. Service generally pretty good.

Always a friendly welcome and a chat with Christine and Kirsty who were on today. Enjoyed a pint watching the football. Service excellent and the ultimate sharer was worth it.

The atmosphere here is electric, especially on weekends when the streets come alive with late-night revelry. This was a fantastic pub for lunch, with a very jubilant interior! This is contributed to from the surfboards and other designs, lighting adds to the scene and the counter is well-presented too. I had a yummy beef burger with amazing fries and a refreshing pint of Strongbow, sitting comfortable at large seating for a clean table!

Had an absolute blast at Walkabout! The energy was on point — great music, lively crowd, and solid drink options. What really stood out was the service — Thalia behind the bar was incredible. Super friendly, quick with the drinks, and just a great vibe all around. She really made the night feel even more fun. Can’t wait to come back!

The bouncers didn't check our IDs and while I was in the patio area, I was told by a bouncer to have 'some respect for myself' even though there were many people wearing much less than me as it was Halloween. Also, my friend wasnt allowed back in after having fresh air and was unable to get their things. The bouncers were incredibly unprofessional and were acting like they were on a power trip instead of prioritising the safety of the customers.

Travelling through Carlisle for a trip and spent the night at Walkabout. Archie was, no, is the best server in the world. My girlfriend was really picky on drinks and he was able to help whilst still serving loads of people and not making us feel forgotten. You don’t find good customer service in young people nowadays but this man is incredible

Been a couple of times when we've been passing through Carlisle. The food is ok for what you get, feel like the prices don't reflect the portions. The tables seem to always be sticky too.

We did a bottomless brunch here. Thalia was our server she was so lovely and helpful. She was quick at serving us drinks and she also let us modify some drinks that weren’t on the menu. It was the perfect brunch

Don’t remember how I got there. Don’t remember how I left. All I know is that as soon as I stepped in the building, Archie appeared out of thin air like the answers to all my prayers. My guy was pouring drinks like his life depended on it. Fast. Flawless. Utterly, truly majestic. At one point i saw him make six shots with one hand and hype up a group of girls with the other. Pretty sure he called one of them a queen and it healed her emotional trauma. He isn’t just some random guy on the bar…he’s also a part time therapist. He handed me a shot of tequila and comforted me while I sobbed uncontrollably about my dead stick insects—told me it was okay to hate my mother for feeding them to my crusty cat that has no teeth and smells like beef hoola hoops. His presence heals all wrong in your life. I would follow this man into war. I would name my first born child after him. If he told me to fight the devil himself, I would do it with no questions asked. If you go here and Archie isn’t working…leave. If he is, prepare for the best night of your life. All hail Archie.

With live sports to enjoy on TV, it’s an ideal spot to unwind after a day of sightseeing or activities. The Apple Tree features a diverse menu that caters to various tastes, ensuring there's something for everyone.
I went in after a day at the gym as I fancied a salad, there wasn't one on the menu but I was told if I asked it'd be made no problem. So I spoke to Megan who was lovely, she asked Adam if this was ok, he asked what I'd like on it and made some suggestions and honestly it was the nicest chicken caesar salad I'd had in a very long time. It was served by the lovely Paige who made sure I had everything I needed including some extra dressing. Honestly I've eaten here a few times now and the food is always amazing, the staff are lovely and friendly, it's just a great all round place to eat and drink.

Extremely dog friendly. Every member of staff came to greet our springers. A bowl of water was provided as soon as we sat down and they had their photo taken for the wall. We were so impressed that we went back next day for a meal. Staff remembered the dogs names and made a fuss. Nice little doggie menu. Quick service and nothing was too much trouble. Lovely meal at affordable prices for all of us

Absolutely amazing place for food, every meal has been made to perfection, the staff Connor, Aalyah, Chantel and Kyle are lovely (as are the rest of the staff who work here) they always make you feel welcome and taken care of. Babs B — Google review
The King's Head is a wonderful traditional pub with a very intimate atmosphere. We stopped by for lunch while passing through Carlisle on our travels. I had the smaller fish & chips while my partner opted for steak pie & chips. The fish was excellent, however the chips were quite thick & as such undercooked in the middle, plus there seemed to be mixed sizes (steak chips, French fries etc) so I left most of them, but it was reasonably priced, and I can imagine it's a belting little place on a weekend night. Lovely place, staff straightforward & attentive, kid certainly go back again. Just without the chips 🍟👍.
Christian H — Google review
Good if it's open, but rarely is. Was a good pub for many years. Beers always well kept and a good pint. However for over 3 years now can never count on it being open. They won't use social media to communicate so a lottery if it's open. They close if it's quiet, if it's busy on a Saturday they will definitely close as apparently wants to look after staff and not have them overwhelmed. Also will just be randomly closed on certain nights with no communication.
Adrian S — Google review
Small to Small Medium sized area downstairs. Bar area is reasonable well stocked, though the draught selection is limited. Prices reasonable. Food is served, though I cannot comment as I didn't order anything. Upstairs, I think there is another seating area, where there is a lot more room. Toilets are clean.

Has a 'locals' vibe about it in all the best ways. Popped in for a quick pint (or two) on a Saturday afternoon and it soon got busy; very lovely and obviously a popular place to come for a drink in the city centre.
Matthew M — Google review
This place is in the good pub beer guide but unfortunately it should be in the rude bar staff guide. Sullen barmaid actually turned 6 paying adults away with a sleeping baby in the middle of the afternoon whilst there were only 2 other customers in. Please update website to show you don't want any children in and actually you don't want to make any money. And get friendlier staff
Eileen B — Google review
We came across this quaint little pub tucked down a side street off the main shopping area in the centre of Carlisle and decided to pop in for some lunch. We were greeted by a delightfully friendly woman behind the bar ,given menus, and told to sit where we like. The menu only had a handful of items, and I chose the steak pie with chips, peas, and a jug of gravy. There were only a few people in the pub so we were served immediately and our food arrived promptly. The meal was served on a large plate, and I was pleasantly surprised at the sizeable slab of steak pie I was given, which also tasted delicious. The thick-cut chips needed a little longer as they were frozen in the middle, but overall, the meal was nice and worth the money, although I would have liked more gravy, and I wouldn't have paid anymore.

Open Mind, located in the heart of the city, hosts live performers and DJs in an intimate atmosphere at no cost. Additionally, Warwick Bazaar is worth exploring as it serves as a shop during the day where you can find unique and intriguing items, and transforms into an intimate music venue upstairs on many nights. The staff is helpful and friendly during your first visit. For those seeking relief from the heat, there is a small and tidy bar with air conditioning available.
I had a wonderful afternoon. It was a really nice atmosphere with a friendly team. It was nice to be able to sit and read a book while people around me were playing board games, pampering their pooch... there were even a couple of quiet murmurings of song from one table... the songs played were just right! The choice of drinks was good, there were many flavours of mocktail to choose from which I always appreciate. Food was simple but effective and service was quick and always with a smile. I will definitely be returning!

My first visit here. Helpful and friendly staff. A small, tidy bar with aircon for those who wanted to cool off. We chose a table outside to make the most of the evening sunshine and warmth. It's a great place to watch the world go by and the modified vehicles traverse the city. Located opposite the Citadel it's a great first stop off the bus or train. Has a good range of gins available and offers cocktails by the jug to share. Will definitely go again.

Every single time I've been here, it's been friendly, welcoming and had a wonderful atmosphere. Downstairs they have a dj booth and area for a band and upstairs a room of armchairs and sofas full of nooks and crannies for chats and catch ups. Love it. Edit: we ate here and it's incredible. Really, really good food, homemade soup to die for.

The Old Fire Station in Carlisle is a popular venue known for its intimate atmosphere and diverse entertainment offerings. Housed in a century-old fire station, it has gained a strong reputation for hosting live music, comedy shows, theater performances, and exhibitions. Following its refurbishment in 2015, the venue now boasts excellent facilities including a bar, cloakroom, and clean restrooms. Its convenient location near the city center makes it easily accessible from the train station and bus stops.
I’m writing this review from the perspective of the band that plays here. We gig twice every weekend, all over the UK in Europe. We’ve just done our second date at the fire station from the moment we arrive. Everything was made easy for us. It’s not like that everywhere we go as a result we take with us a very professional system, all done so that we can set up as easier as we can. The old fire station has exactly the same attitude. The owner, will, is one of the most professional men I’ve ever met staff are exceptionally friendly. Then there’s the engineers, who are always friendly knowledgeable extremely easy to get on with and work with what you’ve sent them, tuning the system for the gig. Backstage is spacious comfortable and unlike many places is geared towards letting the band relax get everything sorted out they need to before they go on stage. They even had towels for artists something major chains don’t have. It’s a straight up five star review.
Keith T — Google review
Great venue with great sound too. Standing only bit this only adds to the atmosphere. Beer was also good value for money. Only around 5 mins walk from the bus station. 10 from the train station. Definitely worth another visit
Carl R — Google review
Nice small venue on the periphery of the city, plenty of parking spaces, free on street parking after 7pm, car park across from the front door charges 24/7 but but not that expensive. There is a large bar as you go in which is opened up early, so you don't need to queue in the rain! I was down to see Dutch rockers FOCUS, it was unallocated seating, not sure if it is always the case, I managed to get a front row seat, there was a gap between seat and stage so you're not pressed up to the stage, the sound quality was excellent, someone must have told the sound engineer that there are mid and high frequencies. - it's not all about the bass! Focus were brilliant. The toilets were clean, staff friendly. The only slight negative was the light rig, had a bright white light shining into my face all night, don't know why lights are positioned behind the band facing out into the audience. As this venue is only about a two hour drive I hope to visit it again.

An excellent venue for shows and live music. I've been, a few times, to see bands and comedy acts. Up front and personal. Bar, at the side of the hall, is a good size and service is always quick. Good selection of drinks, all served in plastic for safety reasons. Parking opposite and 100 m from a local bus stop. Bus station is only about 700 m walk.

Food - 3/5 Ambiance - 3/5 Accessibility - 5/5 Cost - 4/5 Service - 4/5 Summary - 4/5 Once a fire station for Carlisle, it is now an arts and entertainment venue. When I visited, part of the ground floor area was sectioned off and a baby 'disco' was being held! Besides the function area, the ground floor also holds the box office and the McGrew's restaurant where I stopped for lunch. The Hunter chicken burger was okay; good portion, reasonable price. Upstairs, there are more functions rooms and also the Carlisle Contemporary Art gallery (free to visit). Tip: Visit the website and read about the history of the place. Overall, it's a good place, well maintained/staffed and seems like a decent venue for various activities. The history side to the fire station is also interesting!

It really is a fantastic little place for performers and audiences. I don't know of anywhere else you can catch a spoken word night, an electronic music set at an open mic and then a sludge metal band, all within a few days of each other. Bocata in Carlisle is a lively spot with an amazing singer who can perform any song, creating a vibrant atmosphere that gets everyone up and dancing. The bar staff are friendly and the overall vibe is happy and welcoming. It's the perfect place to enjoy great music, have some drinks, and have a fun evening with friends.
Best evening in Carlisle the singer was spot on amazing could sing anything ,danced the night away . People who don't appreciate good music don't come to Carlisle and criticise the singers or the volume of music in the afternoon as it's a city so stay at home and keep quiet! Especially in the afternoon when folk are out to enjoy 😉

What a great night, the place was heaving when we arrived, but the atmosphere was friendly and happy. The bar staff were brilliant. The music had everyone up dancing and having fun.
Chris M — Google review
On a hot sunny afternoon we fancied going into Bocata but walked away as the music was deafening. Others were walking away too. We found a table outside the Andalusian which is around 100 yds away, and around a corner, yet we could still hear the singer blaring out, hearing every word which made a conversation even 100yds away rather difficult. This would be bad enough on an evening but ridiculous on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Turn it down Bocata and have some respect for people sitting outside other bars, your competitors and those unfortunate enough to who live within earshot of your bar.

Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery is a diverse museum featuring historic relics, weaponry, fine art, and natural sciences. The museum has recently refurbished two permanent galleries to showcase its nationally important collection of Pre-Raphaelite art. Visitors can explore Carlisle and Border history as well as the area's natural history on the first floor Border Galleries. Tullie House also boasts beautiful gardens with a variety of herbaceous plants, shrubs, and bushes that are meticulously maintained by the gardening team.
What a superb museum. So many interesting displays that we ended up having to call time due to our brains being overloaded. The Roman exhibition is very well put together, as is the story of the city through the ages. Definitely worth a visit

The extra exhibition of dinosaur world is interesting and informational. However, at the lower floor of Roman exhibition was disappointing. For example, my young grandson was spelling out a name, that required a ,"u" after helping to search, no u's , so I spoke to assistant, apparently, no U's. This does not take into consideration, that our children learn phonetically, having a letter missing, is annoying. The rest of our explore was fine.

Walby Farm Park, located just 4 miles from Carlisle and the M6 motorway (J44), offers a fun-filled day out for families. The park features various animal breeds like alpacas, deer, and donkeys, as well as activities such as mini quad biking and ferret races. With Cumbria's largest indoor play area and safe quad bike and mini tractor training for kids, there's something for everyone.
Great value for money, and kids had lots of fun!!!!! Visited Walby farm on a wet and windy day and have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The reception staff were very welcoming and helped to explain where to find everything. We didn't venture outside due to the weather but managed to fill hours of time. The whole park was clean, including the indoor play areas. The animals were very friendly and there were good hand washing facilities for when leaving the barn area. The soft play is big enough for the kids to really burn off some energy, and the layout means that they can't disappear without getting past their parents. The wooden indoor play area looked fairly new. It is very well designed and my kids tell me it was great fun, they'd just like more balls for the air blasters.... We had lunch here and it was actually very good! The kids' meals were large enough for bigger, more hungry kids.

Went to Walby Farm Park whilst on holiday to do some pumpkin picking and had a great day. Was a group of friends, lots to do like the tractor ride, seeing the animals and playing games. The pumpkins were incredibly well priced and well displayed and we thoroughly enjoyed the pumpkin slingshots! The staff were also really lovely and accommodating especially on the tractor ride! Great day/morning out

We came here as a pit stop on our way to see family in Northumberland. And wow impressed - the was so much to do and the fact that they had a halloween pumpkin event on, that you can pick your own pumpkin in the field, 1 pumpkin for each child was included into the ticket price no matter how big! And can also carve them there and then! Outdoor play areas and we'll as indoor, Plenty of seating and can order food. This was well worth the money and love how friendly it all was! Will definitely come back and different time of the year!

Great for kids. Adults pay almost as much. Fun attractions, most of them at no extra costs. The barrel train behind the quad was a hit. Tip: Get one adult to accompany the kids and have a nap in the car.

We visited from Derbyshire while on holiday, for my little boys 4th birthday. Despite it being a coldish Oct day, this place was great! Loads to do both inside and out with things to suit both my farm mad youngest and the older kids (aged 5, 9 and 13) in our group! The food was lovely, better quality than we have had at other, similar places. All the staff were friendly and helpful, especially Jackson who seemed to be everywhere! All in all a great experience and good value for money!

Another fun day out with the family spending time with all the animals and playing indoors and out. We've always gone during the week and its been quiet each time which we find perfect for our young child. The play areas are fantastic with areas for each age range and we love spending time in the barn. The cafe has a large variety of tasty options, the malteaser slice is a favourite of ours. The staff are friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. There's plenty to do regardless of that famous Cumbrian weather and we can't wait to come back time and time again.

Walby Park Farm is a fantastic day out for families, offering a wide range of activities that kept the children engaged all day. The only slight drawback was the lack of direct animal feeding opportunities, which are often a highlight at similar attractions. Overall, an excellent experience.
Invision C — Google review
A great place with lots to do inside and out for a range of ages from very little ones to older pre teens. The cafe service is friendly but very slow even just for a coffee. A well thought out design of space, as the parents/ carers can sit and chat and easily see their children.

Lovely Brewers Fayre, clean and warm. Food is plentiful and a reasonable price, I had the gammon from the lunch menu. Staff were helpful and friendly. Enjoyed my lunch time stop here.

Situated next to the Premier Inn it's a great place to enjoy a Sunday Carvery or an all you can eat breakfast You can reserve a seat or just turn up for either.Sunday Carvery is noon till 6pm and was excellent value, served by friendly staff. The staff keep the place clean and clear the tables, unlike Wetherspoons !.The bar has a good range of drinks and there's plenty of outside benches, though the interior is tastefully decorated. Its family friendly with a play area for children around the side. Highly recommend and carvery was as delicious and good value for money.

Friendly staff, good quality food at affordable prices. Yes, it is a chain but that doesn't need to be a bad indicator. I can say that this is of my favorite Britain food chain. Food is of basic good quality and that is better than many other locations. Before searching hours for a place to eat and drink I go to Brewers Fayre. Especially this one left a good impression.

Visited family today and called for dinner with someone who actually works for the company. Being in the hospitality trade ourselves it was a pleasure to receive such great service. Food came out piping hot , all plates came at the same time and the table staff were excellent. Will definitely return when visiting again.

We absolutely love going here as a family for the unlimited breakfast, what a bargain £10.99 for an adult and 2 kids under 16 eat free with any paying adult. The food is always lovely, the staff are polite and helpful, the service is top quality. Karen has always gone above and beyond for us, we look forward to seeing her whenever we visit, she is a credit to the team. We've also been for meals before and each time it has been really good, great value for money and very tasty.

This was my first visit. The attention to detail regarding food allergies was second to none. I opted for the carvery Roast Dinner. I was even offered that the chef would prepare me some vegetables, especially, as the ones already prepared contained dairy. The food was delicious. The meat, turkey, and beef were both cooked to perfection. There is nothing I can say in a negative vein at all. I will definitely come back again.

Spent 3 weeks here (for business) the food was very good when they had it. Unfortunately most of the time a large portion of the menu was unavailable. One signiture dish was unavailable for the whole 3 weeks I was there. However the staff were very helpful and friendly.

Amazing Sunday Roast! Came for my Wifes Birthday with are little Boy and we were blown away with how tasty everything was. I had the starter of chicken goujons with a cheese and BBQ sauce, it was delicious. We both had the roast 10/10 ❤ finished off with cookie dough and the OB sticky toffee pudding. The staff were very professional and polite. Suggesting the burger for are one year old who couldn't get enough if it ! We are looking forward to coming back 😊

Fantastic experience at The Old Bank! We came as a group of foodies with kids and we were very well looked after. The service was quick (we had pre-ordered), the staff caring and helpful and the food was delicious! I had Sunday Roast Chicken and it was a bit dry but my starter (fish cake) and the side of cauliflower cheese was so delicious that it compensated for it. Those who had the roast beef absolutely loved it. Quirky place. Lovely vibes.

We went to The Old Bank for a Sunday Roast, and it was epic! The portions were huge, the meat cooked to perfection and came with all the trimmings. The staff and service were just incredible - all were super friendly, attentive, and really lovely. They allow dogs too, and made a proper fuss of our 2 Frenchies, so we all felt very well looked after. We also had the madras kiev and lasagne bites starters, which were amazing, and also very generous portions. Highly recommend this great restaurant to anyone in the area. We will definitely be back the next time we're in Carlisle!

What an absolute gem of a find! The Old Bank exceeded all expectations – the food was excellent, full of flavour and beautifully presented. The cocktails were fantastic, crafted with real care and creativity. The service was just as impressive – warm, friendly, and attentive without ever being overbearing. Matt and Harry have created something really special here, and it shows in every detail of the experience. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will definitely be back again soon. A big well done to the team – highly recommended!

Blown away by The Old Bank! As soon as I read the menu outside I was already interested by the choices the chef had made, and I was not disappointed. I ordered the steak and beef cheek pie and my partner ordered the Chicken supreme, we both cleaned out plates. The decor is quirky and fun and the toilets were even very nice! If I lived anywhere near Carlisle, I'd be here all the time!

4th October 2025 were booked in arrived on time but a large group were in and Obviously did not want to leave when they were meant to . Staff poor at dealing with this and we along with several other couples had to wait 20 minutes before tables cleared and cleaned . During this time I asked for a drink but the waitress wasn’t very clued up and the gin and tonic I ordered she was going to put cola in it !! When it did Come it was drowned in tonic with no taste of gin . This was replaced by a manager .we were looking forward to a great meal as reviews were great what we got was not the best .we ordered a pie which sounded fabulous it came with mash carrots and a sauce all of these were good but the pie was small the pastry dry and the crust burnt and the filling almost non existent very disappointing. We did order a sweet my wife had sticky toffee pudding which she said was excellent and I had a run and raisin dish with banana. It has some sort of pastry as part of it which was not great I found the raisins and the banana but no a taste that would suggest any rum had been In it . Overall I appreciate the place was very busy and the group of approximately 30 persons who overstayed their time had caused problems and maybe we suffered as a result of this but this was a special meal for my wife’s birthday and it was not a great experience

Nestled in the heart of Carlisle, Woodrow Wilson - JD Wetherspoon stands out as a vibrant pub that has earned its place in the Good Beer Guide for 2022. Known for its impressive array of local ales and delicious food served throughout the day, this establishment is perfect for those looking to unwind. The atmosphere is lively yet comfortable, with cozy seating arrangements and unique touches like a fireplace and beautifully designed glass doors adding charm to your experience.
After disappointed from the last dining place, thought better to eat at Spoons because no need to book a table. I’m glad we decided it as they didn’t disappoint us. Ordered wine to enjoy till food hit our table. Choose Korean sticky chicken with rice and it was so yum yum. Wetherspoon app is always handy to order drinks or food at table. Service was great even they missed one thing so i have to request the staff and the girl happily helped us quickly. Atmosphere wasn’t bad either so does the location. Wetherspoon is doing a good job and staff should be appreciated for that. Happy to come back again when in area

Standard 'spoons, does what it says on the tin. Good location in the town centre, with a sister pub just up the road. The usual wide selection of food, and doesn't seem to take long for a table to become free. We wandered in on a busy summer Saturday afternoon and got a table straight away. There's parking just over the road if needed, with multiple paid locations nearby. Food was slightly less on par than we have come to expect on that day, with both our pizza bases and toppings very thin, and the cardboard-like base was crispy and overcooked, much like the poppadoms we ordered. Just didn't represent the value we've come to expect in Wetherspoons.

new big smoke burger was amazing.!! Much prefer new bigger burgers than the old burgers. All the staff were lovely and friendly as always. Cleanliness standard amazing toilets spotless, even witnessed staff checking them. All empty tables clean and freshly wiped by a member of staff. Definitely will visit again

We went to Carlisle on a jolly boy's outing stayed in a budget hotel across the road from the "Woodrow Wilson". You know the drill for these outings - hit every pub you can. Well, that's fine - if you want pay through the nose for your tipple - go right ahead. We tried a few - but you know when you hit that sweet spot - when price and ambiance come together = Wetherspoons. You know your in the right place . Viva Wetherspoons.

A quick bite whilst on a training course nearby. Service was quick, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. It appeared busy for a Monday lunchtime with a number of groups of people having a good catch-up. All the facilities were downstairs, including the accessible toilet. Accessible entrance. There was an outside space to the rear for the brave. It was a tad chilly today. You can order on the app if you want your meal exactly as on the menu. If not, order at the bar, and don't forget to take a quick pick of the table number. The expected cheap and basic Wetherspoons food, but our Cheese and Bacon Loaded Chips were such a disappoint. It was more like a sprinkle than loaded, not enough to even taste.
Willow T — Google review
You always know what to expect in a spoons.. The chicken wings with naga hot sauce are the best thing on the menu. Friendly service and a decent cheap pint of pale ale on a weds foe just £2.15. You cant beat the places.
Smith — Google review
This Wetherspoons is close to both the Train Station and the city center so we were pleasantly surprised to find a free table without much difficulty. Wait time from ordering was a bit longer than we're used to but still only 10 minutes. In most other chains this would be considered a short wait. Staff were both courteous and efficient. Food quality was a little poorer than at less busy Wetherspoons - the chips were fresh but the egg, though runny inside, had a slightly leathery top surface. Too long under the warmer perhaps? I ordered ice cream with fruit to follow. It arrived in a soup dish with LOTS of fruit and was enough for the 2 of us.

The William Rufus is a pub in at least 300 characters of correct standard English. It has a good atmosphere, great food and reasonable prices.
A group of us have been coming to the William Rufus every Monday for a couple of years now – what started as a temporary switch from another local Wetherspoons has definitely become a permanent fixture in our week. The place has a great atmosphere and friendly staff, and we always feel welcome. Beth in particular deserves a mention – she’s always warm, attentive, and takes the time to make sure we’re looked after. It really adds to the experience and keeps us coming back. Highly recommend if you're after a relaxed, friendly spot in town with consistently good service.

Nice place to enjoy a drink as its my very first drink in Carlisle after a long journey. Quick service and plenty of seating. Atmosphere wasn’t bad either. Location is great just 2 mins away from station. Full of local people, may be because their favourite place.

Our first visit to Carlisle the rufus weatherspoon. It was a bit busy when we were there for early dinner. I loved the sticky Korean spicy chicken with Korean sauce and boiled rice. I had a cranberry juice. The chicken pieces were fresh and crispy. Just perfect. Pity the boiled rice was small portion not enough for me. I wonder if I could ask for extra portion of rice and I will pay for it. My friend she had lamb curry with pineapple mixed OJ. We would definitely come back.

It's the perfect spot for brunching, offering a small yet delightful plant-based menu. The place has garnered praise for its welcoming staff and divine food, including standout items like the Barbacoa Taco and Cumberland Rump steak. Additionally, it's known as a great spot to unwind with drinks in a fantastic ambiance.
Excellent food and atmosphere. We can recommend the sharing platters from the sea and from the field (veggie). For 2 sharing this was plenty of food and we were both stuffed. Food bill came to like £45 as well so I think good value. Would return next time passing through Carlisle.

A friend brought us here while we were visiting and honestly the food was incredible. We tried the Chicken Parmesan and the Shepherds Pie it was so delicious that we went back the second time after craving the food. I will say when we did go back I ordered the shepherds pie again it was a little bit on the sweeter side but it was still good. For the portion size and quality the price in our opinion was worth it. We will deff be back when we visit again x

Pub
Nestled down Heads Lane, The Sportsman Inn is a charming slice of history in Carlisle, dating back to 1747. This traditional English pub exudes an Olde Worlde charm that makes it a delightful spot for both locals and visitors alike. Recently, I had the pleasure of visiting with some old friends after nearly fifty years apart.
Popped on whilst waiting for train. Proper pub. Beer was lovely as was the landlady Mandy. Oldest pub in Carlisle. Didn't have food so can't comment but looks like other comments say it's fantastic. Nice place to be.

Sue — Google review
A group of us decided to stop for some lunch. It looks like an Olde Worlde traditional English pub and that's exactly what we got and all the better for that. I was out with three lady friends, all ex colleagues that I hadn't seen for nearly fifty years. To find traditional cask beers on the bar was a huge plus for me. I had a really good pint from the Loch Lomond brewery. Well, it is close enough to Scotland. It was called The Gloaming and an old style 80 shilling ale. Great start. The old pub combined informal dining and drinkers very well. We all enjoyed our food. Two had steak and ale pie which looked really good. One fish & chips and I had Cumberland sausage that was very tasty. I would heartily recommend here for a comfortable stop off during your visit to the City or just out shopping. It was a nice day and others were sat outside on the churchyard wall enjoying their pints. The church of St. Cuthbert is worth seeing too. A mention too for the lady behind the bar who was really nice with us. Cheers.
Richard B — Google review
This IS the oldest pub in Carlisle, despite what other city centre pubs may claim. It has oodles of character and charm, both inside and out, and is hidden away just a minute's walk from the busiest part of the City. There are usually two/three hand drawn ales that change weekly and are always well kept. Prices are not the cheapest in town, but are manageable. Mandy - the landlady, is a darling. She pretends to be grumpy sometimes - but she will go the extra mile to make your visit memorable. The pub is small with limited seating which makes chatting with other patrons easy. When the weather is nice it's possible to sit outside. The locals are friendly and the regulars chatty . Friday afternoon/tea-time is a good time to visit if you want a craic.
The B — Google review
It looks like a welcoming tavern with lots of character and history, but you won’t enjoy your time here. They are not welcoming to strangers and the service is just what you’d expect. Waste of money and time when there are so many better places. Avoid the attitude here and go to a better pub and be able to enjoy yourself.
Tom R — Google review
Handy for the train station while waiting for the inevitably delayed train. It’s early doors but they’re ready to close well before time tonight with Storm Agnes blowing a gale outside.

Can't comment on food because we didn't eat. We went for the karaoke night on Saturday 19th April. What an incredible night. Such a supportive and fun atmosphere. Everyone was enjoying themselves. Will definitely return. Nice one Mandy xx
Lisa M — Google review
A proper pub. Food was ok although the burger was dry however the Sunday roast beef was really good and there was plenty gravy to go with it and it was a very healthy portion size. The prices weren’t awful as for 3 mains 1 starter and 3 soft drinks cost just shy of 50£. Service was ok but I don’t know if it was the time but it seemed very quiet and eery even if we were in a bit early for lunch. It seemed to liven up a bit as we left though. The biggest thing I feel they could improve was music as it had none and even a bit would be great. On the bright side though it was comfy clean and food and drinks were good and it was a proper classic English pub.

This is a cosy pub in the Carlisle train station, with an easy access to the platform that goes to London. They serve good beer and have bacon roll on their menu as well as rhubarb beer which I think would be unavailable if I was there when it was available. The opening hours are daytime currently but will update as and when.
Loved the venue. My train was cancelled so had a cheeky beer 🍺 and a panini. Nice to see an Independent business for a change. Paying was really tasty, loads of options for fillings including a Build your own option. Staff were really lovely and beer was good, definitely appreciated given the heatwave.

Very cosy and great choice of products including extensive range of gin. Lovely coffee. The best I have tasted in a long time. Great place to relax when waiting for train...and to wait if your train is delayed - wonderful high ceilings and magnificent fireplaces..and friendly staff...
Julia K — Google review
A cosy little bar on the platform in Carlisle Station that I presume used to be the old waiting room is worth a visit to stop by while you wait for your train. It is quite pricey though, the mulled wine I had was £6.50 but to be honest if I had more time before my train I probably would have had another! 😄
John F — Google review
Quiet but friendly. A huge conversion from Carlisle Station former glory with easy access to the platform to London. Check out the bacon roll! Good beer too, rhubarb was on tap when I was there, but would have rendered me incapable with a train to catch. Opening hours are daytime (at the moment), I will update as and when....
Christopher N — Google review
A great asset for the station, situated in what I presume was the original waiting room? Lovingly maintained this piece of history maybe a little pricey compared to Wetherspoons around the corner, but boasts a good selection of cask ales including a few craft too. A lovely place to spend an hour admiring the roof workmanship & unwinding before your train journey & worth the few extra pence.
Les W — Google review
Good selection of local ales, quick service and nicely decorated. Great addition to the Carlisle train station.
Vanessa M — Google review
Just had a tea waiting for my train, friendly staff, local independent business. Price good for where it is, but the room is the 5* attraction, So unexpected from the platform. Too many plus points to mention, just call in the next time your waiting for a train or even in Carlisle.

Had a quick pint of Bosun Brewery and a half of Seven Brothers S. M. A. S. H between trains. Both were excellent and the staff were very friendly!

BrewDog Carlisle is a no-nonsense bar in the heart of the city, offering a wide selection of craft beers from the Scottish brewery as well as guest brews. The bar is dog-friendly and even hosts special Dog Pawties for furry friends to enjoy doggy ice cream and more. The industrial-style bar features around 15 to 20 taps, mostly serving Brewdog's own beers with some guest options.
Needed to tick off Brewdog Carlisle as part of my beer visa passport, number 89. I arrived shortly after opening and and it wasn’t too busy……. Initial thought’s, a great space! Plenty on offer at the pumps and in cans. Food wise, pizza’s are the order of the day and David kept serving them up as the bar ramped up ahead of the six nations game. Also available, two pool tables which I believe are free, but I could be wrong. Shame Northern Rail cancelled my train and I ended up catching an earlier one, truly great spot and great service!
Lee A — Google review
In Carlisle you can’t find much craft beer but thanks to Brewdog for saving my life because they always offer the great variety of craft beers their own brew as well as the guest breweries. Still the prices are very pocket friendly compared to other places around. The staff are really friendly and helpful to choose a drink for you incase if you don’t know much. Big seating area and there's even pool tables. Perfect for party and have great fun. Really recommend if you around in area.

We booked a table, in advance, for food and drinks and first impressions as we arrived at the bar was the stench of stale urine whilst ordering but didn’t think too much of it. But after a beer or two I needed the loo and oh my God; the state of the toilet was unbearable, in my personal opinion. There was not a single urinal available - all were covered up. I assume the wet floor was urine give the smell. When ordering our drinks at the bar, we were advised that despite our booking being 4pm, food would not be available until at least 4:30pm. Food was ok, drinks were ok. But that’s about as good as it got I’m afraid. Having been to several BrewDog locations, nothing has come close to the experience at DogTap Ellon. If I’m honest, everywhere else just seems to be sub-par. Carlisle - definitely wasn’t it. I think if this was someone’s first BrewDog visit, it would also be their last. The whole time we sat at our table (2 hours) no one collected a single empty glass or our finished food. Definitely not a great experience. Bearing in mind the bar was practically empty the whole time, I can’t find a reason as to why this wasn’t attended to.

We went for food and drinks today. 2 adults and 4 children. The service was brilliant and the pizzas were the best I’ve ever tasted. Thankyou so much. Good deal too. Would highly recommend

Great place for food, beer and a cool vibe. The staff are lovely, but with such a small pizza over, service can sometimes be slow - especially when there’s a large group of you.

A great range of craft beers on tap and in cans plus it’s so handy for the 🚂
Mark N — Google review
Well designed bar, lending to an American style with long bar on one side and bench / booth seating opposite. Free Pool tables / board games at the rear which is a great touch and balances out the, admittedly slightly over priced drinks. Very much aimed towards beer drinkers. Pleasant staff, quality pizza's and decent music and decor which creates a solid atmosphere all-round.

Love this place! Always a great vibe here, but the bar staff are what really make it. Super friendly, chatty, and they actually know their stuff when it comes to the beers. You can tell they enjoy being there, and it makes the whole experience way better. Always feel welcome. Top spot for a pint (or a few)!

The Crescent Bar has a great cocktail menu. I tried the long island ice tea, which was excellent. The staff were all friendly and welcoming. Would highly recommend.

Nestled in the heart of Carlisle, The Milbourne Arms is a charming pub that beautifully marries history with hospitality. Originally built in 1853 to serve the bustling textile industry, it now stands as a testament to local heritage, being part of a mini heritage chain that highlights the state's historical ownership of pubs. Owned by Linton Tweeds, the last remaining textile producer in the area, this establishment offers visitors an inviting atmosphere where friendly staff ensure every guest feels welcome.
We had dinner and drinks last night. I had the Yorkshire pudding with sausage and tomato casserole. The yorkie filled the dinner plate and was stuffed with the casserole, mashed potatoes and veg. It was absolutely delicious!

My family stopped to eat here on our road trip London to Edinburgh (we are from Canada). The owner let us in a fee minutes before opening and got us something warm to drink. It was raining outside and a bit cold. The hosts were amazing and the food was picturesque. We each ordered something different and loved it. A++ I recommend this if you are local or traveling. The food was glorious.

Landlord/ man serving, customer service was terrible. We asked for a side salad that wasn't on the menu but had seen salad on other plates. He told us we don't do them and anyway you don't need a side salad with the food we had ordered. So much for customer satisfaction how hard would a small bowl of salad been to make! Left a nasty taste in our mouths won't go back. The katsu pizza wasn't very nice but the Pepperoni hot one was pleasant. Maybe if the landlord smiled and was more welcoming this pub would do much better.

Claire J — Google review
Updated review... Great beer and friendly staff. Nice locals pub. Usually have 2 cask ale on, rotated regularly, plus the usual range of beers, wines and spirits. Have had a sunday roast or two now, and they are lovely. Quiz night on a Wednesday, usually have to book a table as it's popular.
Pete S — Google review
Lovely clean smart pub with interesting displays reflecting local history, and a very friendly, helpful landlord. We booked for Sunday roast yesterday, arrived to a warm welcome and our table set up ready. Table service was an unexpected bonus, and our drinks arrived cold and our meal piping hot. The roast was one of the best I'd had in years. Crispy roast potatoes, tender pork, plenty of veg, and tasty gravy. There was also a decent veggie option for my friend. The only reason I haven't given five stars is because there was no after meal coffee available, and I don't particularly want a huge television screen on next to me when I'm eating a meal. But otherwise, excellent.

This traditional establishment boasts a welcoming atmosphere where friendly staff ensure you feel right at home.
Great old traditional pub. Very clean in the pub and the toilets were well maintained and clean too. There is a good range of beer and spirits for everyone and when we went in there were a number of advertised events I don't live local but if I did its my kind of place.

Old style public house which is next to Cathedral. Very warm and welcoming atmosphere. Service is not bad either. Serving local ales and some bottles as well as spirits.
Win T — Google review
You will find the pub in the historic quarter of Carlisle, not far from the Castle, and Tullie House Museum, you can't miss it, it's next to the Cathedral. I was at the pub in the afternoon, so it was extremely quiet. If you want a quiet drink with the girlfriend, then this is where to go. On a night time though, it does get busier, and on a Wednesday night there is a Quiz. The bar is well stocked. Prices are comparable with other establishments. The pud is small, to medium sized and is, very atmospheric, because of its old dark panelling. Though the pub is in the opposite direction to all the other pubs, you will still find people there on a night time, so give it a go. I don't know if the pub sells food.

As soon as I took the last sip of a cocktail they were there at the table to offer me another one. We both had the chicken and waffles which were absolutely wonderful. Hammond’s Pond is a delightful park that offers a perfect blend of nature and recreation, making it an ideal destination for families. The picturesque pond is surrounded by lush green spaces perfect for picnics or simply relaxing with loved ones.
We come here with our dog 🐕. It's a lovely place, very soothing sitting on one of the benches dotted around. Saw a Heron yesterday, swans, ducks and cuts. The cafe sells food for them at 50p a packet. Lovely play area for younger and older children 😀

SAJAN T — Google review
Great little park with nice features and facilities. However, we have been about 6 times on nice days and are yet to find the cafe open. This means there are no toilet facilities which creates problems with children and adults having to improvise which is not a good look for the park. Come on Carlisle - you're better than this shirley?

Beautiful park with lots of spaces for picnics. Safe to bring children. There's lots of grass to play on, a children's play area, a Café (mostly open during summer but friendly staff) and a rather large pond with lots of ducks and some swans. There is also a small rail track with a train for little ones which mainly runs in Sunday's. Very much worth a visit any time of the year!

Nice little gem in Carlisle for a nice walk out. Park area, pitch area, and big area for dogs to run about too as well as little bike track for kids on their bikes. The only downside, although it is a lovely place for a stroll around with the little's or the dogs there has been known to be aggressive kids and bullying/fighting etc in the area so as lovely as it looks its worth keeping a watchful eye at the same time. Sad to say but had to mention it

Went in about 3pm Saturday 8th March in a group of 8 and sat on tables next to bar. Was obvious we would need all the tables for the size of the group. Whilst at the bar, one of the bar staff moved the table away to beside the toilets. One of our party hadn't seen that and went to move it back. Woman behind the bar screamed aggressively at top of her voice to NOT MOVE TABLE ITS BEEN PUT THERE FOR A REASON. There was absolutely no reason to scream like that, totally unnecessary. Could have just spoken to us in a reasonable tone. Won't be back again, disgusting attitude.

Being a lover of tapas I noticed this restaurant online. A nice sunny day in Carlisle so a venture here was a good idea. I must be honest it took a wee bit finding But very happy I did. Walked in to be met by a very pleasant young lady who showed me to a nice table by the window. I was given a menu and my drink order taken and brought over to me. The menu was great Brilliant selection of Tapas also main meals. 3 tapas for £22 was a no brainer I opted for the prawns in spicey oil with bread Crispy pork with slaw Beef tacos Very happy with my choice. Every dish was different and delicious Sitting taking my time to savour every bite with another cold beer was great. I will definitely come back as there were more things I'd love to try. I only put the atmosphere down as I was the only one in bad timing from me tbh. I had a chat with the owners who took pride in what they did Please give this gem a try if you're in Carlisle you won't be disappointed

We were celebrating with a big group of people and ordered the Tapas, the food quality was average but the amount was very poor for £20. Also they didn't serve the tapas at once, rather in bits. The staff was friendly but they ran out of wine glasses in the first half an hour and served the (not so cheap) wine in tumblers. The live music was good and the atmosphere was great.

Good experience at the Andalusian. The service was great and the restaurant setting is classy. The fajitas had decent flavour, although there could have been more meat on the mixed grill. I would have preferred if I didnt have to fold the fajita myself but it was good value overall.

First time we had ever had food from here. Used to go to the bar often but never had the food. WHAT A MISTAKE. Absolutely fantastic. We had the tapas and it was fabulous. Went here at the weekend sat down waited to be served no one came for at least 20 minutes a bunch of the staff were sat at the table next to us sipping pints , a lady had a go at them said we had been waiting to long please serve us , the women replied I’m on my break. (didn’t know pubs had all staff members on a break drinking at the same time great way of doing business) I said this is shocking service the women replied oi im the manager then told us we were not been served , if I was to compare this pub to a movie the closest would be the hills have eyes , if your not local they just stare at you and don’t wanna serve you creepy place with shocking management

great cocktails, and lovely staff, my partner tried a cocktail that they didn't like and we were offered either a free shot or a discount. very friendly dog too <3

This bar has an interesting theme of "beach volleyball club with dream logic" as surmised from its décor and frequent repeats of old beach volleyball matches to remind you of better places than Carlisle. If it was anywhere else I don't think Yellowjacket would be as impactful, it's the only place in the city that allows a mini escape from sensibility and it does great cocktails. There's also a lot of beer and shots.

Amazing staff, drinks were class and the place was beautiful. Really chilled out and welcoming atmosphere with a cocktail menu that left nothing to be desired. There's even drinks that are nonalcoholic which I don't see much anywhere else. i definitely recommend it. I will be coming back!

Often referred to as the Aladdin's Cave of the city, this quirky antiques shop boasts an impressive array of items including vintage clothing, unique accessories, books, CDs, vinyl records, and local artwork.
Best shop in town, possibly anywhere. 2 floors of an ever changing selection of oddities, second hand clothes, vinyl, and local art. Has a lovely vibe and staff are all very nice and welcoming. upstairs is a large art space with lots of local art that's all an alternative sort of vibe. well worth a visit.

The most mishmash bizarre wacky shop I have ever stumbled across. So many different things from so many different people, including many small local artists. I didn't end up picking anything up whilst I was there, but it was still 100% time well spent. Definitely recommend you have a bit of a nosy in.

NICE little shop. Great wide range of goods for sale, plus dog friendly so the dachshund had a look around too & even got a treat! First visit to Carlisle, so wasn't aware that this place was here - it's good to see that some towns still have such retailers as most of them seem to have gone over the years, sadly. Will definitely be back for a visit,& I've already told a few people about it...and they're planning on a trip over as well. This place is a MUST SEE if you are in the town!

Turf Tavern is a bustling Hungry Horse that offers great food at reasonable prices. The staff are friendly and accommodating, with special discounts for those with a blue light card. The venue provides ample parking and seating both inside and outside, along with entertainment options like pool and darts. While the service can be quick even during busy times, there may be occasional hiccups in order accuracy. Despite this, the tasty food and generous portions make it a worthwhile dining destination.

Met here for a meeting with friends to plan some future events. We chose this location as it's central to us all whether we walk or have to resort to the car. It was early on a Thursday evening, so we hadn't booked and were able to choose our own table. We were able to talk without being drowned out by background music or numerous people, which was ideal. I opted for a lovely mac n cheese toastie, sweet potato fries, and a gin or two. We ordered at the bar and waited a short while for our meals to arrive. We did have to temporarily move to a larger table to eat, as ours wasn't big enough for the plates. The staff were fabulous, the food was filling, and there was no pressure to be finished quickly and leave. Easy to get to on foot and by car, a good walk from the bus and rail stations. There's a car park onsite. I parked nearby and walked through as I wanted to avoid the evening rush hour in the city. We are likely to use this venue again for its convenient location.

Good points it’s a pub it serves food and drink the staff are good We went in and asked for Wimbledon to be put on and it was on before we sat down love it thank you! Has outside seating in front and back and pool table. Not so good points , the meal deal only includes certain drinks have to add money for others . No ales just lager and stout. The dinner was not same as picture no carrots which they said were out of season had cauliflower instead of . Not so good points , the pubs decoration is very dated and musty smell throughout. The roast was adequate but not filling had to eat some of mums, the gravy spuds were good everything else average.

I have been a regular here for the last 8 years. I first used this pub in the late 70,s when I was 18. I moved away due to work commitments. I returned in 2017. Totally different pub of course. I have found the staff in this establishment to be excellent , kind, consistently , always so polite , even under pressure . Its difficult to single out individuals because they all equally excell , especially the way a lot of intolerant people treat them. I can’t remember all the names of the lovely staff , they change ! I would like to ! Applaud , ( in no order of preference ) Thai India Freya Nataschia Jakob Ellie Beckie Sam Etc And all the other girls names I can’t remember! And the kitchen staff , whom I know by sight, Because I just go for a quiet beer! And they treat me with kindness ! Barni

First time in Carlisle and stumbled across this place. Hands down one of the nicest meals I have had in a long time. Staff were really great, first thing they asked was around dietary needs or allergies which was really great and the menu is fantastic too We went for the Fajitas and they were absolutely amazing. Full of taste and flavour, steak was excellent quality and cut and had a portion of salt and pepper chips which were some of the best salt and pepper chips I’ve ever had! Will definitely return when I am next in Carlisle

Food was uncooked, I ordered the Bacon double cheeseburger with fries, The fries were fine however the burger was undercooked and pink inside, When I pointed this out to the server she replied you should tell us how you want your burger cooked, and still charged me full price for a meal I refused to eat. I suggest you stay away, Unless you want to get ill, Was a decent place however the standard is below what is expected.

We were a party of 7 that spend £200+ on food and drink, I Ordered the Xmas dinner for £19, the menu said it came with all the trimmings, but when I asked for cranberry sauce I was informed that would be £1.50 extra !! So not all the trimmings then, but for some reason a dish of pigs in blankets ( £7.50 ) came with cranberry sauce. Back to the dinner, roast potatoes were dry. Not impressed at all.

I've eaten in and had takeaways from here, as I'm a coeliac it's hard to find good gluten free food. This is one of my favourite places as it has all my comfort foods. Got this munchies box delivered last night, containing Korean glazed Chicken, Nachos, potatoe lattices, Wraps and shredded beef and it was delicious. Even ordered the gyros thinking they may be gluten free but recieved a phone call to say they weren't and that if I didn't want another option they could just add more of everything which was perfect. Only thing I'd say for the restaurant is to put the wraps under the foil or in separate foil so they don't get covered in oil or sauce. As well as the last time I ordered a burger and found that they don't come with chips. These are an extra, at £15 a burger, I was a little disappointed.

I am utterly dissapointed after ordering Sunday dinner take away from the St Nicholas arms to be delivered. I have had food from there before and it has been ok but our meal was 34.99 for 2 Sunday dinners and gravy and it looked like this with limp vegetables fatty small portion of lamb on one dinner and bigger lump of lamb on the other with no roast potato’s or yourkshire pudding. I called and explained this and sent the photographs and he said what is my address and he would replace the dinner and collect the other one without charge. He then said he would bring the food once it was cooked which was fine. A few minutes later he called berating me really aggressively and saying he packed the dinner and there was roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding so he has changed his mind and will not change the meal or refund us! Really bad service! I won’t use them again but wanted to put my review on here. He was so rude and angry to a customer I’m in shock. What terrible service. Did he think I stole my own roast potatoes and yourkshire pudding! I would not eat that dinner and if that is the way you speak to a customer it’s really bad service.

Very friendly with a good range of food. We had a few drinks and food. The Garlic Pizza Bread with Cheese deserves a special mention as it was lovely. I think the low reviews because of parking are unfair as thats nothing to do with the place its about mistakes the reviewer has made because its very clear not to park unless you log your car.
Caroline L — Google review
Don't go to this restaurant. It was my first time in the UK, and I parked there for a moment without realizing it. I realized right away and pulled out. However, I was fined 100 pounds for stopping for a few minutes. I didn't understand the English signs, so I asked the owner of the hotel next door and pulled out immediately. But they still charged me a parking fee. This is a really bad restaurant. Don't go to this place.
Du H — Google review
We ordered a coffee. They do not offer oat or almond milk. The cappuccino was warm milk and warm water, with no coffee in it. The frontman was rude, almost hostile. We parked on the premises, but somehow, we were meant to know that this was not allowed. They could have warned us, but we received a fine from a private security firm. It was the perfect trap. Never again! A place I do not recommend.

Ok bar, let down by slightly naff interior decor. Outside seating area is ok but on a surprisingly busy back road. Very good Guinness though, and great prices - pint of that and a lager for £9.80.

Visited here a while ago but it is out of my way so unfortunately I'm unlikely to get back again. It was a typical food-serving village pub with a good supply of well-tended hand drawl ales. The interior is nothing special but it's chief selling point for me was the landlord. He welcomed a bunch of us walkers in and spent a good deal of time chatting with us. He was friendly, informative and deeply committed to making a go of the place. We stayed far longer than we had planned to but his craic was worth it. It's great to see he is making a go of it. Addendum: visited the otter yesterday after a four year gap. Under new management apparently. Lady behind the bar was chatty enough and the tea time local drinkers were happy to make small talk. Beer still well kept and served. Wainwright and another one.

This was a lovely little pub, cosy and warm with a really lovely, friendly atmosphere. The staff were great, the customers at the bar all said hello as we came in. The dining area has been tastefully decorated and the tables are well spaced. The food was amazing! It's proper pub food but done really, really well. The pie was to die for! The prices were really reasonable as well. All in all it we had an excellent time and would highly recommend.

Went this evening for a meal after seeing reviews online. We were not disappointed, not a large menu which I prefer as its better to do a few things well than a lot of things poorly. The steak pie and lamb shank were delicious as were the cheese and biscuits and lemon cheesecake. The prices are the lowest of any pub I've been to around Carlisle. The staff were warm and welcoming and you could tell they took great pride in what they do, we will be back.

I never heard anything from the Dalston Lounge, not even an apology for their poor communication about the cancelled Cocktail Masterclass event. I tried to be patient and reached out via Instagram, but they didn’t respond. I followed up by email, again with no response, and eventually contacted Design My Night, who passed the blame back to the Dalston Lounge. What’s even more frustrating is that my friend, who has a larger Instagram following, received a response, a refund and was offered a complimentary meal. I won’t be returning to the Dalston Lounge due to their terrible customer service, and I won’t be using Design My Night either. Both companies are completely incompetent. I’ve had to dispute the payment with my bank.

Wow! I hosted my 30th Birthday here, drawn in by the Daslton charm and the decor of the place. Communication was 10/10 from the start to end and I felt very comfortable in their hands. Joshua and Sianca were legends from start to finish and I felt like they were part of the party and I was very happy to have them there. Do not hesitate, book this place! I did want to DJ but it was such a short turnaround so we couldn't get the decks working, they really tried to help as much as possible, but that's on me for doing it so last minute and I was grateful to be accommodated in general - so I suggest booking in advance. Great food and drinks options, I most certainly will be back!

Just had a most awful experience in this pub, whilst l am waiting to order the one of the bar staff asked a customer to bring his wine glass back to hava a refill because they had no more wine glasses, when we did order we waited a full hour for our order to come. Did l mind if they couldn't give me an egg on my gammon because they didn't have any, will you have pineapple instead, ok, then the food come without the pineapple, a really chastening experience not be repeated. No eggs, no wine glasses, no staff, btw my wife's salad came when she had finished her food. I think a big E comes to mind.
