Always a good place to meet for food and drinks during the day. On Saturday nights they play some great dance/house music upstairs although some of the clientele are barely of drinking age. Downstairs is always a good for a more relaxed vibe. Good to see this place thriving in a part of the city thats dying a death. Highly recommended.

10/10 chef of the gods, absolutely delicious. My first time and I wasn’t let down. An absolute game changer. Will definitely recommend and I will return. Stunning!! Thank you.

One beef dinner, one lamb dinner for my parents and a cheesecake for me because I’d eaten elsewhere. Lamb and beef dinners are a medium and were huge (photos below). Piping hot, lovely cuts of meat and plenty of veg and gravy. Only complaint is we weren’t offered sauces (we also forgot to ask for them so this is partially our fault). Cheesecake was white chocolate and strawberry and was absolutely divine. All reasonably priced too. Will be back to try the main menu in the future. Thanks Gatsbys!

Every time I go past Gatsby, it's always bouncing last night was no different so we popped in for one £16 for two buzzballs though is expensive but the atmosphere made up for the price of drinks.

Definitely a cool mexican restaurant with nice funky interior. Food was okay, nothing really blew me away, however, i think each taco was carefully thought out and had a nice blend of flavours. My favourite taco the chicken one and the thai beef. Trio of salsas as a side was nice but again nothing special. Did have to wait a little for our table but didn’t really mind.

I thought I’d missed my chance to go here but I’m glad it’s reopened. - Nice margaritas - Grilled peach and mozzarella salad was an absolute treat - I would have preferred a thinner slice/smaller chunk of fish in the ceviche - the tacos felt light on toppings. The meat was cooked well. The miso duck leg was my favourite, but none of the tacos blew me away. All in all, a bit meh, but a good option for the area.

Great food as always, I’ve been a frequent visitor since 2019, great food again tonight, got in early before the theatre rush. Service on point, drinks good. 3 tacos each and some lovely padron peppers shared, a little bit of confusion over the final bill as it’s restaurant week in Sunderland but nobody mentioned this. So we expected 3 tacos for £13 which is the usual Tuesday deal. But never mind, all was sorted by a friendly and proactive manager who was keen to resolve the issue very quickly and efficiently. Sometimes service can be judged on how a situation is resolved and this was a great example of customer service by one senior member of staff. A great restaurant as always. This may sound a little strange, but sometimes there is be need to be defensive, someone might be trying to do the right thing.

Cool Mexican tapas place with ok food. I feel like the idea of the place is better than the execution. It’s lovely inside with a good atmosphere, but the food was meh. We got the salsa and tortilla chips for starters, and I got a range of vegetarian tacos whilst my partner got the meat tacos. I didn’t particularly like any of the vegetarian tacos, the seitan was undercooked and the texture was awful. I think using different meat alternatives would make it better. My partner liked the pork tacos, but the rest were just okay. The tempura broccoli was awful really, just broccoli coated in heaps of soggy batter. We really enjoyed the smashed garlic potatoes though, they were spectacular. The salsa and tortilla chips were good too. Overall, the sides were mostly great and the tacos were just ok. The atmosphere and decorations are lovely inside though. Service was pretty good too.

Really, really good food. Cocktails were excellent and interesting, and the service was spot on. The soft shell taco with pulled beef was unreal! Really good vegan options too. Only thing I'd not order again was the guac -£6 for a few nachos and guac when you can get more chips or another taco for less!

Such a cozy atmosphere, on a lovely street, food is tasty and being served as tapas means you can try loads of different things and they are all fantastically presented. Slightly on the expensive side, but a fantastic local business worth supporting 🩷

Third time visiting yesterday, basically tried the full menu by this point. Can't recommend this place enough. Food, drinks, service and atmosphere have been faultless every time. Impressive 3:2 meat:vegan taco ratio, without skimping on vegan options for sides and extras. In my experience, it's rare that a restaurant that has so many meat options that they execute vegan dishes to an equally high standard (my partner is vegan). The tacos themselves are well and truly the main event with each encompassing bold flavours, with every element balanced - no flavour or component being lost in the mix. The menu is definitely Mexican fusion, with alot of Asian inspiration, but we're here for it. We're always impressed, and will continue visiting from Durham when we can - it's worth the journey!

This is a great pub for real ale and character. Casta making his first visit, I have been before. A CAMRA 2023 Good Beer Guide entry. I had their house beer by local Darwin brewery. Fairly large interior with great decor. Beer patio in front. Gets rammed on a match day and thus has a match day menu. Opens at 10am so good place for a breakfast buttie.

I came in tonight with my friends and it was her birthday, and we asked for some afrobeats to be played and the response we got from the DJ was and I quote “I don’t play that kind of music” I never thought racism can ever exist at Ttonic, I am extremely disappointed because I have been here multiple times and the DJ has played afrobeats multiple times for us. But this one DJ on the 22nd of Sept, said “I don’t play that kind of music” wow just wow!

Had an amazing time and highly recommend. The venue is stunning. Loved the sort of jungle/woodland theme, both in and outdoors. We had a meal upstairs where again, the decor is great. The food was absolutely amazing. My wife said its the best katsu chicken she's ever had. My Jamaican kebab was delicious. I'll definitely be going back if I'm in that area again. My wife and I love cocktails and were blown away by the creativity of all the different drinks. Staff were all very friendly and attentive Can't wait to go back.

Variable, occasionally tasty portions of fish, steak and burgers, however on our last visit these were overcooked or gristly (fillet) and dry and previously the pulled pork & Jamaican kebabs were very poor, with little taste (neither had any special coleslaw as per menu), no taste of rum or burnt sugar in pulled pork; mince and dumplings were also very greasy with little meat and much too herby and the cheddar mash unfortunately tasteless just like rehydrated dry mash mix, drinks were also a bit pricey...eg Neck oil £5.70 a pint!. Service was also very slow with drinks arriving 30mins after ordering and plates not removed from table between courses. Uninspiring outside, however good atmosphere inside, with mainly 70s background music complimenting rustic modern feel. Just be careful what you choose from the menu!

While staying in the hotel next door for work I came here for food and drinks. The venue is amazing, came into a tropical beer garden and a well decorated interior. Staff were all very friendly. The chorizo chicken was amazing and great value. Beer moretti on tap and a fantastic long island ice tea. Would recommend and come again.

Came on the night of Beyonce at the stadium of light, was very busy but we booked so got our table quickly. The staff seemed extremely overwhelmed, way too many tables for the level of staff they had. Luckily, for us, we didn't wait very long for our food. The poor lad who looked after us was a bit frantic and didn't fill me with much confidence that he'd put our order through correctly. Unsurprisingly, he forgot the dirty fries on my flatbread upgrade and he put through the BBQ chicken burger instead of the BBQ chicken pizza. However, everything was delicious and everyone we encountered were friendly and handled what was a difficult shift for them, including the young lad that took our order, he was lovely, he just needs more training/experience. Will definitely return, had a great time and the prices are extremely reasonable.

I had a wonderful time here with my 3 friends. We all thoroughly enjoyed the food and drinks we had here. I had the Cajun Chicken and Hallumi pasta and the serving was amazing. It was so well cooked and tastes incredible.

Lovely atmosphere, good music, great food, good service. Staff were friendly and remembered us when we came back a few days later. Their “hand cut chips” were the best.

Lovely service from start to finish. We were advised there was a wait for food before entering and the waitress also ensured we were aware of this before taking any orders. When the food came it's was worth the wait. Perfectly cooked steak and the belly pork was spot on, melty with crispy crackling. Would happily recommend.

Done out really well, friendly and helpful staff. Serves food which from 11.30. A pretty good selection of beer available. Generous portions on the food. Point taken off for serving melted cheese food on paper so it stuck to the paper! I know it's trendy for some reason, but come on, just use a plate and not paper on a metal tray! I'd recommend the venue though.

Ordered a Pepperoni Pizza for £16.50. It was overcooked, undertopped and had 9 tiny slices of pepperoni on a 12 inch pizza. I sent it back. Tried the beef burger. A whopper at Burger King is far better. Bun was dry, coleslaw was dripping wet, fries were like kebab shop fries and the burger was thin with a weird aftertaste. Absolutely awful. They did not ask me how my meal was on collection. I will not eat here again.

Easily the worst "Sunday dinner " I've ever had Had the beef and Yorkshire pudding wrap as that's the nearest they had and it was inedible, over done chopped up beef in a chewy attempt at Yorkshire pudding and some bisto Dry veg Left it. No attempt to rectify Won't see me again

Appalling service after making the restaurant aware of a party of 12 and time arriving the day before. Took one hour and forty minutes for meals to arrive. Food arrived just warm. Spoke to manager and requested refund for two meals that didn't arrive.

Fish and chips I ordered and paid for then when aske I said u felt it was poor , the chef came marching over to remonstrate , I'm an experienced diner and former grill chef .I have had better at Weatherspoons . Staff where great including one very suprised at the chefs actions.

Arrived a couple of minutes early but took almost 10 minutes to order our drinks then food order came 5 minutes after our drinks were delivered. Had to repeat the cook on both steaks ordered twice. My partner ordered surf and turf, I ordered the Alex grill. Food arrived approx 45 minutes later which was a surprise considering there was about 3 other tables in the restaurant but both uber eats and just eat orders were flowing. We weren’t asked about extra sauces and the table didn’t even have salt and pepper on it which we had to get from the table next to us. Literally felt like we were an inconvenience and the vibe was off and unwelcoming. We did not receive a check back to ask about our meals nor a top up on our drinks. If we had I’d have mentioned the grill came with no 4oz pork as advertised, instead it came with a chargrilled chicken breast. This wasn’t mentioned at the point of ordering saying this was out of stock. Finished our night waiting for our plates to be cleared then paying at the bar. Weren’t asked about our meals then either. Staff don’t seem to care and the lack of actual service probably means that when a table of 2 are having 1 drink each, they could push more. It all seems abit confusing at the minute as to wether it’s table service or order at the bar. Very disappointed

Ordered online. Foods looks good. But I had to bin it as it has soury taste. I made a mistake by giving 3 stars in justeat. I rang the restaurant and spoke to Alison to inform that the belly pork with rice has sour taste. She said she will asks the chef who prepared just in case and she took my contact number to ring me back - but I had to ring them back as I was waiting...Had bolognese chips too.

Heard some good things about the meals from the Alexandra, so when we were visiting family in Sunderland I booked a table for 4 people for a Saturday night, booking was easily done on the internet and I booked for 6.45pm, arrived a bit earlier, with plenty of parking right outside the venue, on entering the building I told the lady behind the bar we had a table booked for 4 people and we were a bit early, there seem to be no issue as we were shown to our table straight away, great, left for a few min to settle in and decide what to drink before we looked at the menus, speaking of which the menus had loads of choice from steak,pizza, pie, fish and chips, to kebabs, they really did cater for everyone’s taste, we eventually settled on 3 starters with 1 to share between the two of us, can I just say the service it self was brilliant with a young waitress who never seemed to stop, taking our order and getting our drinks, she really is a credit to the place, anyway, our food arrived shortly after ordering and was absolutely delicious as was our mains shortly after that, piping hot food, good decent size portions and prices which aren’t too bad at all and on par with most places, I couldn’t even eat all of my mains it was so filling, we even ordered 2 slices of huge cake to take away lol, for 4 people with 1 alcoholic drink and 3 soft drinks, 3 starters and four main meals with 2 huge slices of cake to take away coming in just over £90, brilliant value for money!!, and with brilliant service to boot we simply had to leave a tip, would definitely recommend to anyone who is looking for a decent meal out, and I will certainly be booking again in the future.

Me and my daughter thoroughly enjoyed our lunch here today. I had the steak & ale pie, which was a deep dish filled with a generous amount of steak topped with puff pastry & served with homemade chunky chips & mushy peas. My daughter ordered the mince & dumplings which she asked to be served with chips, it was served with mash potato, we politely pointed this out to a member of staff which was quickly put right. All in all... Great food & great service!!

Chicken yorkshire pudding wrap with chips 10.55 and it is £9.95 on just eat. No chips, roast potatoes. Luke warm, crunchy inside, too salty and greasy. Yorkshire pudding wrap was greasy and the gravy was really watery and salty. Service was arrogant. This restaurant does not expertise in customer satisfaction from my experience as i felt unwelcome.

We were given drinks shortly after sitting down, but then left waiting for over 30 minutes with no one coming to take our food order. Staff walked past several times but didn’t stop to check on us. Really poor service — we ended up leaving hungry and disappointed. Definitely won’t be returning

We came in unplanned and the moment we entered the pub we were greeted straight away with a smile and a hello we found where we wanted to sit and order our food, bar staff and waitresses were very happy to help take the order straight away and a massive round of applause for the kitchen staff as the food was absolutely amazing! Full of flavour cooked to perfection! Managers of the pub, you want to be pleased with the team yous have! They are amazing! Massive well done team !!

!! OUTSTANDING SUNDAY CARVERY !! This place is an absolute must try. The staff are amazing and very friendly, the chef has good banter with each and every single customer and the food is off this planet. Fresh veg and lots of variation, it’s piping hot, tasty and the portions are bang on. Of all the places I’ve been to for a carvery around the whole of the U.K, this is honesty the best I’ve had.

Disgraceful food & service. The menu advertises that the meals come with homemade chips. Our 3 meals arrived with sides of frozen undercooked chips. I informed the waitress who shrugged it off remarking they had ran out & there’s nothing she could do. I asked to speak to the manager who was less than apologetic. I finally got a refund for one of the meals as the scampi was also undercooked, watery & inedible.

Fabulous for a private party of 27 in the conservatory, with gorgeous carvery and good choice of sweets. The meats all just melted in the mouth and the service was efficient and helpful

This is a review for takeaway Sunday lunch It was outstanding with tons of veg including savoy cabbage and mushy peas, plenty meat which was gorgeous and delicious gravy. I would only make one criticism and that was the Yorkshire which was small, tasteless and soggy Otherwise would not hesitate to recommend or indeed return ourselves again well done !!

We used the Hastings Hill for my late Mams wake. Not a thing was too much trouble, they allowed us to use our photographs on the TV from the funeral which was a lovely touch for the people who didn’t get to see them. The food was superb and was commented on by everyone, lastly the staff worked so hard at a really busy wake. They never stopped the whole shift! A huge thank you to you all.

We had our evening wedding function at The Peacock and we couldn't have asked for a better venue! Start to finish Cindy was absolutely fantastic and made sure we were well looked after, she did a fantastic job with the room and so many people complimented the lovely venue we had chosen. The staff members were all really friendly and went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and welcome. So glad we chose The Peacock for our wedding!

A great family-run pub in a beautiful building. It's probably my favourite pub in Sunderland. The atmosphere is always welcoming. There's usually live music on Friday and Saturday nights. The beer selection is decent including a few cask options and the prices are fair. I still need to try the food so I can't rate that but people always recommend it, particularly the Sunday lunches.

Called for food & drink before going to a show at The Fire Station next door. Great menu, not expensive & quality food. Drinks not over-priced. Friendly & helpful bar staff. Got a little noisy when away fans began chanting prior to going to match at Stadium of Light. No trouble though & would definitely recommend a visit.

The place for your party, meeting, pub-crawl or anything else. Used for a festival during my visit. Great bar with friendly and fast crew!

Always such a pleasure to be in this place. I've tried many pubs in the city centre for a Sunday roast ,none of which came close to this place .everything is seasoned beautiful,the beef melts in your mouth and the gravy is to die for. Xx

Regularly welcomed here by great staff. Covid hasn’t changed that! Sanitized, Tracked and Traced , taken to a clean table with comfortable seating and served. Easy background music and often live sports add to the atmosphere. What’s not to like? See for yourself.

Lovely little pub. Found it by accident, not far from the theatre. The staff are super friendly and while they have a small menu the food was delicious and very good value for money. I definitely recommend it if you want a quiet Saturday lunch with the best pizza in town.

Nice bar closes far to early on a Thursday night 1900 hrs !!!! Cleaning of the Toilets is very suspect as photo will show it was there Thursday and Friday. Overall great staff and good atmosphere.

The greens has always been a great pub to visit. Appealing to all age groups and very friendly atmosphere. Staff are great . Have visited on numerous occasions and always had a great time. Not far from the empire theatre for refreshments b4 or after a show.

I attended pretty late in the evening so was quite quiet. All the staff from doorstaff to barstaff were extremely courteous and polite which made for a very pleasant experience. Will be attending again and would recommend to friends and family.

Our function was Sunday afternoon in the beer garden .and great atmosphere with our guests. However, the pub itself was empty. I think this was due to no food been available

Visited on a quiet evening... Immaculate pub, good selection of drinks, beautifully decorated was really impressed.

Tried one of their sundau dinners today, no booking just showed up. Dinner was served within 20 minutes of being there no complaints about service! Beef dinner and a pork one, both very tasty but small portions of meat. Had to pay extra for cauliflower cheese and only got one little dish of veg to share ( 1 piece of broccoli each) . Yorkshire was dry but the roasties were the best I have ever tasted really nice!! Lush gravy plenty of flavour in veg aswell. No complaints except portion size 7.5/10 They have a nice beer garden and sell clwb tropicana! Used to do 2 printers and have a dj outside not sure if they still do now however. Not a good location as its a taxi to anywhere else.

Went to the ska night tonight, brilliant band, great crowd, great doormen, canny staff. Ran out of gin 8pm , ran out of tonic 1 minute later. Its saturday night and it's an older crowd. Poor management.

Everytime others I know and I attend this venue, we contract a bad illness of some sort. Every single time. Deep clean this venue properly and hire a regular janitor(s). It's ridiculous.

place was completely dead. graffiti all over the bathroom walls saying how bad the place is. 14.00 entry fee ( there was 2 of us ) when it stated on the website 3.00 each. Midnight on a Friday and it’s completely dead. it is saddening as the place has potential

Great venue for live music, but also does the best music on a night out in Sunderland. Definitely worth the visit if you're into indie music.

We came here for my mams birthday today (19.08.2025) and have had a fantastic night. Food was delicious. Service from Holly was excellent couldn’t fault any of it. Will definitely be coming back.

First time at Miller & Carter and overall it was a pretty solid steakhouse experience. The ambiance felt classy and welcoming. Definitely something you’d go to for a nice evening out. Service was friendly and attentive. The menu offers a good range of steaks and accompaniments which makes it easy to find something you’ll like. Price is on the higher side but for the overall experience good food, pleasant vibe, professional staff I’d say it’s worth a visit.

Katie was very friendly and service was great. She was accommodating to diet requirements, the food was incredible! The steak was cooked to perfection, great portion sizes. Its a good spot for a date night.

The place seems to constantly be busy, even on weekdays which says a lot about how worthwhile it is! We've been a few times and the food is always outstanding along with wonderful service. The starters are generous, the chips are fluffy and tasty and the arrabiata is out of this world.

Booked a table for 2 the day before on just what we read on the reviews. And we weren't disappointed, the food was outstanding. Italian cuisine is my favourite and the crab ravioli was to die for, I also tried my wife's dish which was spaghetti carbonara which again was delicious ( very rich). Had the dishes with a side order of garlic bread with caramel onions.

We booked a table last minute. We arrived early and were seated early. Service was very quick. Staff very friendly & attentive. We went for the 3 Course Special which was very reasonably priced and we weren’t disappointed. The food was full of flavour and there was lots of it. Goat Cheese Starter was just divine, the Lamb main was full of a different flavours (highly recommend) and the Lemon Dessert was beautiful. Very impressed, will definitely be back. ⭐️

Tried the new burger menu today! Got the duck burger with salt and pepper tator tots, all very nice. Decent 1/4 pounder burgers with crispy duck. Tator Tots were perfectly crispy with fresh chilli and seasonings, would definitely visit again.

We came with a very large group and were accommodated very well and given great service given the number in our party. The menu here is extensive and quite authentic and the food is great. Definitely enjoyed the Cajun pasta and the pizza.

We enjoyed our meal here. Visited on 10th May 2025. Friendly staff. Reasonable prices but no draft beers. Music may have been a touch too loud but it was a minor criticism. Nice place. Will go again if we're in Sunderland.

Very good Italians. Food was unreal and came very fast. Definitely going there again. Had a seafood pizza and it was gorgeous

I was surprised how great this small and authentic restaurant was. Fab food, atmosphere and value. Anyone stopping nearby to see the Sunderland Empire shows should take a 5 minute walk and enjoy a great pre-theatre meal.

I'm afraid to say this little restaurant let us down. The food was okay but not great but the wait time was what let us down most. I think they might have forgotten about us but if they did they didn't say so. There were at least 4 other tables that came in after us and had starters , mains and 1 had dessert and they were all done before we were served our main which was the only course we had as we arrived at 6:15pm and had to be at the theatre for 7:30pm. Our mains arrived at 7:05 after asking staff at 6:45pm if they could chase it up for us. The big positive for this restaurant was the atmosphere and to be fair the price was really reasonable so in conclusion if you are looking for reasonably priced food that's alright and you want to make a night of it then this place may be a good choice. If we were forgotten about it would have been nice for someone just to say so, then we would understand and probably not have written this review

Visited recently and we were hugely disappointed. Initial viewing from outside made our shoulders slump. Thought we'd still give it a go, but was again disappointed when we walked in. Desperately in need of more than a lick of paint, and it was freezing cold inside. There doesn't seen to be a heating system, but they accommodated us by switching on two very small and very inadequate fan heaters, we didn't take our coats off at all. We ordered our meals and they were mediocre, so based on the food alone we won't go back. I would however say the staff and service was good.

We had a table of 18 booked to celebrate a family member's 30th and the staff were absolutely fantastic from start to finish! The restaurant itself isn't massive, so the fact they were able to accommodate 18 of us and it not feel like we were sitting on top of each other was a great start. Orders were taken effectively to ensure everyone's dish arrived and it did! Not one issue at all, again, a party of 18, you expect one or two hiccups, but nope! The food was delicious, everyone raved about what they ate, which ranged from different pizzas, pasta and risotto. I honestly couldn't find a fault if I tried. A special thank you to the staff, you all made such an occasion even more special with how friendly and accommodating you all were. To the chief(s) who cooked up 18 storms, it was lovely! We will most certainly be back, although maybe not all 18 together, haha.

Quite simply, brilliant. Perfectly conceptualised and executed dishes. Exquisitely delicious. Really friendly staff and just a lovely place serving delicious food, scones and cakes. Good vegan options too.

Pleasant walk along seafront and chose the salt house kitchen for mine and the wife’s stop off. Quite pleased we did as well, we found a table outside no problem and our order was taken almost immediately. Our drinks came straight away but our sandwiches were a bit of time which proved to me they were freshly prepared. I had the fish fingers and wife had the steak. Both were top class and we will be back again. Thank you

Fantastic food, I had the Lamb Kofta, excellent presentation and lovely flavour. My Dad had the scampi which he really enjoyed. Mum had the tomato soup and a fig scone which was epic in size and really nice. The staff were lovely and the place had a nice atmosphere. Fantastic 90's dance music very much in the background so it was there but not intrusive. Took me back to my clubbing days. I would highly recommend and will return

Stopped here after searching for a gluten-free place in Seaburn, lovely independent café the proprietor or manager was really friendly and helpful. Managed to bag a gluten-free vegan cake to go! How rare and exciting! Also almond milk flat white which was delicious.They also do gluten-free food options I've had a fish finger sandwich. Hassle free heaven!

Called in to Poetic license while visiting a few bars in the area. This used to be our favorite around here but it’s slipped back over in last year, Hardly anyone in and we still had to wait to be served. We were told it was happy hour but it was still dearer than any other bar in the area, only to be told happy hour was only certain deals. See attached photo. We can only return in a while to see if there is any improvement

I booked a buffet at the Poetic Licence for my mams 80th birthday celebration. Everything I requested was provided and the staff were friendly, efficient and helpful. The food was great and there was loads with plenty of gravy (which went down well). I highly recommend this venue and the view of the coastline is amazing.

Went here recently and had some loaded fries and cocktails. Our server, Maisie was super sweet and helpful! The atmosphere was so nice and it was cool they let dogs in ❤️

Maybe I'm just getting old, but I like to eat food and enjoy company without having to shout over a Northern Soul DJ who wouldn't be out of place at a working men's club sixth form do. He really was unbearable. If that's what people like, fair enough. Not for me.

1 chips were raw, the other over done, chicken kebab was tasteless but good for the dog i guess. Flat bread was a small square of ??nan bread. Took a long time to get a drink, around 20 for a diet coke and 1 pint. Disappointing...did complain and initially offered a cake which we didn't fancy but also didn't fancy paying almost £50 for a meal we didn't enjoy, took £6 off the bill for the chips, better than nothing I suppose. Girls serving were canny.

Off the beaten track. Surrounding area in the summer would be lovely. Pub itself quaint & charming old english pub. Very reasonably priced 2 x mains 2 x pudding all for just over £42 which was very good for this. Not the best food I've eaten but then again not the worst I've eaten either. Just regular pub grub. Would I return probably not but glad I tried. A little out my way. If you are in area.

Second time coming here and what a lovely place and nice friendly staff We had fish and chips I had a small and my partner had the large and they were just perfect lovely fresh white fish crispy batter and home made chips delicious This was followed buy a gorgeous cheesecake a more than good portion we will definitely be back and would recommend to anyone

Love this family pub on the north Riverside. Out of the way, small car park but plenty of street parking. Always busy. Amazing food at amazing prices. Love the Sunday lunches - huge portions I have also been through the week for the main menu. The service is friendly, polite and helpful to give to give recommendations. I never feel rushed even on a busy Sunday.

A pleasant bar with decent food and prices. Service can be slow if you're in at the wrong time. I like the interior it's bright and light with plenty of seating outside. Overall very good.

Staff arragant miserable not friendly at all. Food terrible hand full stick chips had full peas six bits scampi. Tenna heap trash . I ordered kids chicken burger meal the burger was small bread bun with a chicken breast in it Literally a dry bun one chicken breast no batter or covering on it just chicken breast so since when is that a burger cos it's in burger bun .it's a chicken breast bun . .ordered the kids pudding had to ask twice for it .twenty mins later it turns up ice cream instead cream .I spoke to staff about the actual burger says that what they class as burger .a chicken breast in a bun . Dry as hell . Staff very unhelpful and miserable .

Visited a few times in the past couple of weeks with my baby daughter whilst we have been visiting at the hospital and other things . The staff are very polite and obliging, and often bring the beer to my table as I'm otherwise engaged 🍼🍻😅 so top marks there and ofc I will return. They do a good few pints of real hand pulled ale and keep them in tip top condition. Well done, good team. 👍👍👍5stars (apologies re the "Greggs" on the table it wasn't me) 🙈

A classic Wetherspoons…very spacious with two levels. We all had burgers and a drink which.we’re very reasonably priced - discounted on a Tuesday night. Nice pictures throughout of various political and historical figures associated to the area.

The staff were friendly. A waiter went out of his way to get me a jug of iced water and a glass as I was thirsty in the heat. I went with some colleagues and we had brunch and curries. Fast service and the normal Wetherspoons fayre. You know what you're getting and it's good value. The nice staff helped too. It's a nice big place too, plenty of seats with an upstairs and outside seating too.

It's a spoons. You know exactly what to expect when you walk through the door. Good value booze and grub, toilets that are a thousand miles away from your seat and a clientele that is more East Jet than Air Emerates. If you stay into the small hours, the atmosphere ramps up as it's one of the spoons that sweep the tables away after dark to make a dancefloor. Not my scene, but those who get involved seem to enjoy it. The roof terrace was an excellent addition a couple of years ago. It's spacious and airy, and on a sunny day it's a good spot for some cheap drinks and chatter.

Pub is lovely and cheerful, great drinks prices and food is not bad, lovely staff. Only thing is the cleaning of the place, I was sitting with friends yesterday and table next to us was left for over 2hrs while we were there with previous customers dirty plates and drinks, was still like that when we were leaving, it wasn't particularly busy and plenty of staff, but they all just ignored it when walking past it, made the place seem grimy. Also table we sat at was sticky as anything until we asked for a 3rd time for someone to wipe it down. The 1 star is for service is only because the cleanliness of the place in regards to tables been cleared.

Pepsi max flat as a fart, wouldn't like to know how long it was standing there for before delivered to my table. Would have been quicker walking to the shop and buying one myself. Been approximately 1hr and a bit since ordering my meal and still no sign.

First time in here when I was visiting Sunderland and I can honestly say it's one of the best Wetherspoons I've ever been in. Really good layout over two floors with a really modern design. Nice mix of people for a midweek. Usual Wetherspoons range of drinks. Great bar staff. Good music, which you don't always get in a Spoons.Highly recommend.

Nice place, we loved the decor and showing the history of the building as a fire station. It was match day but we were fine to get in for lunch time. The staff were super friendly and helpful. The food came quickly and was good. I had a fish finger sandwich with chunky fries and my partner had the burger with chunky fries. The only downside of my food was the curry sauce which was just so runny it was like water! However everything else we had was tasty.

Nice little treat out. Food was fantastic, though a word of warning, the shepards pie is HOT but delicious. Only reason I put 4 stars for food was the tinned custard (not that I would complain about that, I like tinned custard) otherwise everything was great. Would definitely recommend a visit.

We booked a table for 11.45, which we did not really need to do, for such an early time. But it is highly recommended to do so if you are going to see a show at the empire, which is about 1 to 2 minutes' walk. The service was really warm and friendly. We both had the fish and chips that came with mushy peas and a small jug of curry sauce and small pot of tartar sauce. The chips were good, as were the peas and curry sauce, I did not try the tartar sauce. I thought the fish was very nice with a light and crispy batter. The only thing that spoilt the fish was, on a personal note, that too much salt had been put on top of it in the kitchen.

Popped in tonight on a mini pub crawl in the area. We arrived right on the call for last orders, but the friendly bar team accommodated us. Samson Smooth on draft was lovely. So was the welcome, even though my mate and the bar staff reckoned I look like Jeremy Clarkson. Nice place, plenty indoor and outdoor seating and a selection of beers/ales to please most. Quite possibly the best selection... In the world.

Paid £7.35 for a pint of Clwb Tropica. Couldn’t help but comment to the barmaid that the price was about 300 miles south of what it should be. She couldn’t disagree. Nice bar, but the beer prices are comedy.

Thoroughly enjoyed my meal tonight tho the posset wasn't a posset. I wasn't charged for it. However I really want to compliment the waitress, she was so helpful and attentive even though she was run off her feet.

Tried the Munich Pizza, was nice and tasty. Lovely thin crispy base! The waiter/bar man was horrific, poor service and bad attitude.

We love the burgers and homemade triple cooked chips but the pizzas looked very nice also. Great vibe and super bands on at the weekend. A hidden gem of Sunderland.

Really really good pub... not the cheapest by any means but you definitely get what you pay for. Good staff who know their stuff too, and a lovely exterior and setting... if I lived in the terraces here I'd probably be in most nights!

An old favourite from college and uni days. Great to see that it still has lots of character. Good selection of beers and it looked like they were about to start a good quiz!

First time in today. Seemed busy and there was only one man behind the bar serving and seemed run off his feet. Was a little disappointed to not find any ale as the website says two beers are on rotation, but maybe the site is out of date? I did check several times that I couldn't see any beer hiding Ordered food and had quite a lengthy wait. Not horrendous, but more than expected for the order we made, Might have been worth letting us know there were a lot of orders and it may take a lot while. Finished drinks and got another just as food arrived. Looking great. The chips are exceptional and worth a full star on their own. Beef baguette was ok. Not the greatest melt in the mouth beef and a little chewy but certainly edible and acceptable. Overall a decent meal and service and would certainly go back. But a couple of minor tweaks and it could be a five star review for me. Only given the criticism because I feel it's easy to address and doesn't detract from a good meal. Will happily eat here again ... If not only for the fabulous chips!

Called in here today with the wife n mother in law who ordered a hot beef dip. She couldn't eat any of the beef at all, unable to cut though and said it had a strange taste. The beef just looked like a rubber sole. When mentioned it he asked if she wanted anything else, I said could you just give her some turkey instead as the chips were nice. The turkey never arrived and was offered if she wanted a free drink instead, she was drinking lemon and lime. No offer of a discount or anything he even admitted a few people had complained as they had changed supplier recently. First time calling in here. Very disappointed we won't be back

A great gastro pub with fantastic tasty home made food and service with a smile. My hubby always has the chicken curry whilst I like to try different things on the menu and today the chilli, rice and proper chips did not dissapoint. If your in the area your in for a proper treat if you visit.

Proper pub I ordered a mixed grill which was absolutely huge but very delicious. Husband has the chicken curry and ate every scrap. Will definitely be back good food and reasonable prices A+

Came here with .y son for first time after moving nearby, I had fish n chips which was cooked perfection nice batter n home made chips salad n mushy peas, beautiful large portion, My son had Steak n chips with salad, lovely piece of meat n peppercorn sauce, son just managed to eat it and said it was awesome! We had lunch here yesterday as a large group and the whole experience was excellent. The staff are brilliant, they serve proper home cooked food and a large menu, and there’s a cosy vibe inside with friendly locals enjoying a quiet drink. The bar is also dog friendly which meant we got to meet the most gorgeous puppy before lunch. We always have bad experiences eating out as a group of 10-15 but the staff made us feel comfortable and welcome here, we had absolutely no complaints. Food and drinks are also very reasonably priced and there’s ample parking nearby.

Went for Cancer Research coffee morning. Had a nice cup of tea and a couple of cup cakes which were really good. They managed to raise a decent amount of money. That was great the committee work extremely hard. It's good of the stadium to let them host a coffee morning there.

Fun few hours on Easter Sunday. Exciting racing and having some of the retired dogs visiting the restaurant area was a cute touch Cannot say the food was good, but it was still worth the restaurant package price for the location overlooking the finish line, weather proof too Drinks were reasonable, certainly better than London pub prices

Staff were great. Very friendly and helpful. The food was poor though. The seasoned chips were just plain with no seasoning. The stacked burger just looked like something thrown though the microwave. Very poor. Other than that, we had a good night.

The two female bar staff need blonde haired woman and dark haired woman should be trained on how to make customers feel welcome they where too busy laughing at people and mimicking people when they where eating rather than serving drinks. Never felt so uncomfortable in my life.

The experience has changed since I was there last. No bookies on the rail was a huge surprise, feels like that was a big part of the experience however, the staff there are brilliant. Very friendly. Very helpful. Joanne the racing manager was great prior to the visit and Maxine and her team could not have been nicer or more accommodating. Deffo going back again based on that.

We visited Christmas week whilst on holiday after seeing it on Google Maps. We have never been to watch the Greyhound racing before and thoroughly enjoyed it. We are a family of 2 adults and 2 teenagers and we placed mimimum bets on each race so the afternoon didn't break the bank. We even managed three winners. The gentleman working on the betting desk was very friendly and took time to explain how everything worked to us. There was a well stocked bar and a little cafe which sold hot food. The chips and curry were very well received. A really good afternoon. We would definitely visit again if in the area. I'd also like to mention the support the ground appeared to give to the local Greyhound Rehoming Charity.

Out first visit ! Went to see our greyhound race ! She didnt do too well but the place is amazing. Great food . Great staff . Just wish it was closer to home !

I had given 4 stars originally but after considering the lack of care the staff had for the state of the tables and floor I had to change my mind. You would think at the very least before reserving a table you would sweep the floor and wipe the table. It was not a pleasant start to an assuredly above average pub/restaurant. Starters left something to be desired so I did not take photos of them. Sweetcorn fritters were tasteless and needed seasoning. Vegetarian koftas were equally unappetising and lacking in texture as well as flavour. Fortunately the mains which I have taken photos of made up for it. Excellent burgers and side options. Decent staff and great choice of soft and alcoholic drinks. We would consider coming back but seeing the notice (time to lean time to clean) and looking at the state of the place it does need a lot of TLC.

Good choice of food, some different items, plenty on the plate, drinks great. Didn't have a record of our table booking. Not sure if it's regular service or just the time we visited but food wait time was 45 minutes.

Food here is amazing!! Bit more pricey than your average burger and chips, but that's because the quality is fantastic. Good variety of drinks, both alcoholic and non alcoholic. I ordered the American Burger - 2 beef patties, pulled pork, cheese and gherkin. My husband ordered the Tyrannosaurus Mex - 2 beef patties, chilli beef, jalapeños and nachos. Both burgers were delicious, and you got a huge portion of fries and a little cup of red slaw. I asked for a garlic Mayo dip and a buffalo dip. Highly recommend buffalo, garlic Mayo was very bland. Staff were lovely, very attentive. Now it was a Friday night, which could be a busy night for them, but we had to wait 45 minutes for our food from point of order. I'm not sure how many people this restaraunt can accommodate, but we were sat on the ground floor where I believe approx 25-35 people could be seated. Decor was lovely in the restaraunt too, and only a short walk from the multi storey. Highly recommend booking a little in advance, perfect for food before the theatre.

Nice place, Ordered smothered Comfort and pluckin swine and both burgers has less than half a chicken breast it was mostly batter, it was very bland the most taste was the garlic mayo. Cocktails were nice but misleading on menu. Waitress didn't care when we complained, only go if you don't want to taste your food!! Spoiled our date night.

Food is always top quality everytime I have visited! Staff are friendly and welcoming, always happy to help, girl who served us had recommended an excellent stout to compliment the burger which went down that well I ended up buying 3! Would highly recommend this restaurant to all friends and family. Excellent experience everytime

One of those surprise finds. First time and won't be the last, great choice of meat options, tried the Donald Rump and it was amazing!! Steak cooked the way asked for 'super rare' and the flavours of the sauce was lush. The vegan friendly options are great, was surprised to see so many on the menu. Service from ordering was great and not a long wait for the food even though it was busy. It's not a massive place so can be hard to find a seat during busy times, but if you're ok to wait a little bit the turn around is normally quick.

Quizlamic state quiz team has had a great time at quiz night. Great service from Heather and Sam, look forward to our next visit.

Other than the carvery been nice such as the beef etc the Cauliflower was abit undercooked and tough the mash patato in some parts wasn't mashed, other than that not a bad place to eat

Quickly served at the bar. Was informed of specials immediately. Drinks were good. Dance floor busy with people enjoying themselves so atmosphere was good. Didn't use the loo's so can't comment.

BOTTOMLESS BRUNCH 🥂 We went here for bottomless brunch last week, I've been to a good few b.b here and Newcastle and I've got to say, drink wise this was the best! No waiting till you've drank your drink till you could order another at one point i had 3 infront of me, the waitress was lovely very polite and quick at service. Food wasn't bad either its an actual meal and not just picky bits. The drink selection is great cocktails/bottles/spirits and they were strong. Definitely recommend this place, its more than worth the money we're looking to go again soon as!

Thought this was a great place. Plenty of individual food and drink outlets, spread over two floors, surrounding common-area seating a bit like you get at Oktoberfest, with floor-standing space heaters keeping the cold at bay. You can mix and match whatever you fancy and then pick a spot you like. It's also dog friendly. We popped in here for lunch after a great walk on the beach with our pooch. We were there in January and kept our outdoor clothing on whilst eating, as it was still a bit chilly inside. The space heaters are gas-powered and I can't help wondering if a switch to something else would be more environmentally friendly (overhead radiant heaters powered from a wind-farm would be great), but you can't have everything! Certainly recommend the place, despite my eco-conscience clouding the issue.

Well worth a visit. It's a cracking place. Seats throughout and I believe there's 9 vendors from pizza to Greek and burgers. There's a number of bars. Something for everyone. The food is fantastic. Staff are lovely and live music. There's two types of people in this world. Those who have been to stack... And those who have yet to experience stack.

Visited today for lunch with my Brother and Boyfriend who hadn't visited before. Would highly recommend as there is such a wide range of foods and options definitely something for everyone. Loved that my Brother and Boyfriend could choose from one stall and I as a veggie could choose something else and we could still eat together. I had a veggie burger from Brack Burger which was delicious and one of the best I have ever had it was well cooked and absolutely stuffed with gerkins. Very generous portions and a good price. The pager system for food means you can sit relax and just wait until called instead of having to stand and wait at the stall. Loved sitting upstairs and watching the sea plus superb for people watching. The live music and singer was so talented and a joy to listen to. The place is dog friendly so bonus cute doggos. Staff were friendly chatty and professional. So friendly as well. Had such a lovely time we didn't want to leave haha. Music can be a bit loud downstairs at times. Toilets are clean and well maintained. Would be happy to go in alone. Fabulous place to meet friends. .

Great place for meeting up with friends. They have a great selection of places to order food from. They give you a little device to take to your table, and it lights up when your food is ready to pick up. Unfortunately, we had already eaten before we got here, so we didn't try anything, but what we saw looked amazing. They had entertainment on which was canny (a singing duo), but you could still have a conversation if you liked. We are definitely going back to try the food, and we've booked tickets for a tribute act coming up later in the year. Would highly recommend this place to family and friends.

Nice place, no entrance free. Mixed crowd, many options for food, many bars. There was live music on Saturday and many lads with Sunderland kit after a win!

Great selection of foods from Greek, Mexican, to good old fish and chips, live singers and bands daily along with a bustling atmosphere, dogs welcome.

Absolutely great place for all ages. Great variety of different food vendors, all of them serving lovely food. Loads of singers, bands, events on; lots of time they promote great local talent. They work with schools in the community, letting them perform on the stage. A much needed injection of entertainment and life that our sea front needed!

Excellent venue for live music. I only went to see the band so I could not rate the food. However I am sure it will be fine. The staff are very friendly, even suggested to buy a bottle of wine rather than a glass as it was cheaper. The clientele were also very amicable and made the atmosphere very welcoming. The sound from the band was also excellent so we all had a fantastic time and would definitely go back. Parking was also not a problem.

Great local pub just outside the city centre which serves good food and drinks with friendly staff. Can be quite at times which is not a bad thing.

I went in The Stumble Inn before a Sunderland home match and it was a good atmosphere, it was busy but easy to get served. I only had a drink so can't comment on food. I would recommend it :-)

Great bar, great management, great staff. It's lost none of the atmosphere from back in the late 80s when it was my student haunt as the Royalty, but it's in good nick and has live bands on now too. Get yourself in on a Saturday for the bands or there's karaoke one midweek night if you want to sing.

Love coming here, laid back friendly atmosphere, love coming here for food, for a couple drinks, game of pool and darts and the quiz night.

Fantastic afternoon stop off. Perfect pour on the pints . Freindly staff and locals. Comfortable atmosphere. The food looked amazing ( I didn't order as I had ate somewhere else) however several regulars where complimenting the chef.

Great pub lovely landlady darts and pool live bands the food is very reasonably priced as are the drinks. Has a great quiz on a Thursday I've made it my new local.

We've been going here for a lot of years and it is one of our 'go to' places for a very enjoyable drink. Sunderland is a nice place to drink if you know where to go, and the Dunn Cow is one of the few, traditional and friendly pubs left in the town.

Fantastic style of pub, unchanged decor in a long time. Great selection of beers and lagers on Draft and Cask. Food wasn't as great as I expected but still very nice, maybe slightly overpriced. Great, friendly bar service though. Calm, chilled atmosphere inside.

Been visiting The Dunnie (Australian readers; it's not) for years on and off. I used to look forward to a pint of Cameron's Strong Arm, and that's why i knocked a star off the rating - i couldn't have one today. Loads of craft ales to choose from and a decent pint was enjoyed. Good craic from the bar team as well.

Canny disappointed with this place. Came highly recommended and to be fair it did have a fair selection of beers and ales. The disappointment came with the atmosphere ... There was none. Unlike other pubs we went in in Sunderland there was no friendliness or welcoming vibe. Just served and sat down. It was fairly busy but just had a bit of a pretentious feel to me, maybe I am judging harshly as other places were really friendly but this is how both my wife and I felt during and after our visit. Wouldn't rush back here.

Just had the most delicious Sunday lunch at The Dun Cow, food was really tasty, beautifully cooked and plentiful. The puds were so good too, and a wide range of ales and other drinks to choose from. Friendly bar staff and a beautiful bar to admire while you sit! Will definitely be returning ☺️👍

Only my second ever visit. Casta found it in his 2023 CAMRA Good Beer Guide. In said guide not just for beer but because this Grade 2 listed building beside the famous Sunderland Empire Theatre has a pub decor of significant historical heritage..in other words "bloody lovely". On a rubbish August evening of damp grey skies this lit up the evening. Great selection of real ale. Casta chose an " off the wall" beer...a blue raspberry and coconut milkshake pale ale! From Play Brew breeery. Different but would not have another.

Great but let us down with 2 beds with dirty stained bed sheets. good rooms great size and with a balcony and sea view. Excellent. Also fantastic. Dog friendly for £15 a night

We had a fantastic stay at The Seaburn Inn! The stunning sea view made our visit even more special. The staff were absolutely wonderful—friendly, welcoming, and always with a smile, which made us feel right at home. Breakfast was delightful, offering a great start to the day. We also appreciated that it was a dog-friendly place, as we took our furry friend along, and everyone was so accommodating. This was our first visit, and we’re already planning to return for another stay. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a comfortable, seaside, and pet-friendly experience!

Only 4 stars because I didn't like the breakfast sausages and bacon, breakfast finishes for guests at 9.30 and the restaurant was freezing cold, so we didn't eat there in the evenings. The staff were friendly and efficient, decor was nice, room was nice too, with great view and balcony overlooking the beach. Very expensive though at £200 per night!

Rooms are lovely when you select the sea front balconies. Staff are friendly Food and drink are lovely but I feel it's overpriced for what it is. Coffee is lovely Breakfast strictly stops at 11. Even if you order 11.02 they won't put it through, that includes a round of toast. I love local and we pop in quite often for coffee and breakfast and caught out with this afew times

Great location and right on the front overlooking the water if you can get a sea facing view room. Grear friendly service and decent selection of continental breakfast options plus a cooked breakfast choice made to order. Recommended.

We had a balcony room overlooking the sea. Excellent and spacious. The location is wonderful, Seaburn/Sunderland have done a wonderful job with the promenade. Dog friendly, kid friendly, but also perfect for adults. Lots to see and do. I recommend the hotel and the location.

I booked one night here and it was a poor experience, ordered food which was very spicy despite being a bbq flavour, I spoke to a member of staff who laughed it off and offered milk... I also requested a double bed but I was given 2 singles joined together which was very uncomfortable, I tried to contact the hotel but got no reply, overall left disappointed.

Absolutely disgraceful place, my son and daughter in law turned up to Bar Justice only to be told the bailiffs came in mid week, apparently bar staff turned up and had no idea!. It's not even about the money or whether they get it back...just have the disancy to let people know. What kind of reputable buisness owner would do that, no contact whatsoever my son and daughter in law were left standing outside, bearing in mind she has 3 weeks to go visible upset,with food, balloons etc. Hang your head in shame Bar Justice. Shout out to Angelos Resteraunt, who helped our family. And to Sams bar where the shower finally took place.

A group of 8 of us did the cocktail masterclass as part of my hen do. Daniel the bartender was great - really attentive and friendly. It was a nice day so he even offered to do the class outside which worked well. Excellent value for money and we had a great time!

Love this bar. The selection of drinks is great and not too expensive. Service is always great from here even when it's busy. I had my hen do here also in the private function room upstairs where they do cocktail making classes, which I would highly recommend.

Ok for an early evening beer or as a place to meet. Not sure I'd want to spend the night there. In the past I've seen blatant drug use and and a rather unsavoury crowd using the place. That said, my last visit was very pleasant, and a far more sensible clientele. Juries out on this one, hopefully it's turned around.

Popped in for a pint before the match. Plenty of lagers but not much choice of craft beers. Plenty of seating outside. Free sausages and onion rings. Given a loyalty card. Buy four pints and get the fifth free.

This place has a no-music conversational ambience with friendly staff. We tried a few of the interesting old Vaux Brewery beers, and the Raspberry Porter was a standout. Puzzles are available, too. Worth a visit for a change from the usual.

Visited with my Brother and Boyfriend. Barman was friendly chatty laid back. Very knowledgeable so interesting to learn about the different ales. Fabulous value for money. Good selection of drinks. Met some very cute and friendly dogs which definitely added to the friendly and fun atmosphere. Music was a good level and you could easily chat. Toilets are clean and very well maintained. Would be happy to go in alone. Would recommend especially for the doggie company haha.

Small micropub. Friendly with a good atmosphere. Mostly good beers, the exception being a bottle of Raspberry Porter. If you think that anyone drinking such a beer deserves what they get, I can't argue.... Seriously, would I go back? Yup!

Popped in for a pint before Ipswich Town picked up all three points at the Stadium of Light. Decent beer which as its in the Good Beer Guide it will be. Plenty of Sunderland fans in who were happy to have a footie chat.

As a group we have always loved the rabbit. Great music, brilliant atmosphere. Usual DJ is funny & accommodating if we request a song & Our last visit on sat was not the best. There was a different DJ who was abrupt, arrogant & rude! Several people made requests & each found the same awful attitude, We won't be rushing back & this is a shame as we have always recommended visiting this bar for it's great range of music & fantastic atmosphere.

I got in it and the floor was just washed. The smell of beer was so strong that I instantly thought they washed this floor with beer. Nothing else around me was opened and so I sat down. I ordered wine that came in a glass with someones lipstick on the side... I got a main that was a massive portion mainly potatos and vegetables, but thats okay you would not leave hungry and that is the only reason I give any stars at all. Will I go there again? No. Never.

This is a nicely renovated bar, especially the newer bit which used to be the restaurant section. Shows live sports, food (which I have never tried so can't comment), and has a DJ on in evenings. Friendly staff. Male toilet was a bit worn and in need of a clean on my visit. Pretty bog standard boring beer offering, they need to get on board with the craft beer and real ale upsurge.

First time in here, will be the last. Come for some food before a show at the empire, walked in and went to bar, guy pouring a drink didn't even acknowledge us when we got got to the bar, second staff member appeared and talked to him, didn't even look at us, third staff member appeared and finally got some acknowledgement. We got told to just take a seat and someone would be over to see to us, to be fair the younger staff member who took our food and drink order was over prompt and quite polite. Ordered food and although cutlery was already on the table salt and pepper wasn't, food came quite quick, it was actually very nice, however no one came to ask how it was or offer salt, pepper or anything other sauces.... I had to ask the table next to us for some salt. No one around to ask beforehand. Worst thing is it wasn't even busy 100% won't return and we live in Sunderland, disappointing. Oh and as I write this we have empty glasses and no one has come to ask if we're finished or want another drink....

A nice pint very friendly staff 2 ppl had burgers & said they were beautiful, i had the chicken it was nice. BUT the "fat chips" were not nice, you bite into them & got a greasy taste.

Went in here after the match on a Saturday. The bar had a nice atmosphere but the service was quite slow despite having ample staff. Beer was good and so we're the cocktails.

Came here for the first time in February after the Sunderland match. The staff were super lovely and friendly and the garden is a nice place the jam when it's busy inside. The garden has heat lamps above the decking. Had a decent pint!

Tucked away off the main road, a good pre-match pub if you're looking for a beer and a natter. A good selection of ales alkngside the usual choices. There are 2 rooms, so usually plenty of seats.

Did not go here for the food so cannot offer a score for that. Went to see the fabulous Russ Tippins performing two sets, one acoustic and the second electric. Both were exceptional in delivery, my preference being electric but both worthy of the tremendous reception by the audience.

Great place to pop in for a pint after a 13 mile walk along the coast from South Shields to Whitburn. We often go there its decor and furnishings make it very comfortable and welcoming , the staff are always friendly and now it's got the added bonus of WiFi.

Visited to see gaslighters playing. Didn't know what it would be like as it is a small pub and thought it may be loud. I was wrong the sounds were just right and group very good. Was very crowded but service at bar was quick and efficient.. staff friendly and atmosphere welcoming

Highly rated micro bar twixt Sunderland and South Shields. CAMRA award winner in beer guide. Casta ordered a pint of Vaux VPA, a hazy pale ale. The bar is bigget than it looks. A small front room with the bar, an even smaller back room but a second floor upstairs. A couple of tables out front and some seating in the back yard amongst the barrels. They took cash but prefer cards. Three real ales on our visit. Opened 12.30pm on this Saturday.

Super cute and cosy micro pub. Good stop gap for a walk from shields before returning. Free cheeseboard, felt perfectly welcome and comfortable sitting alone and great playlist. Will definitely be back

Awesome micro pub serving a couple of regular brews, but loads of guest lager/beers/ales/ciders. As a local, it's fabulous dropping in to check out what's on tap (some sort of ice cream sour a couple of weeks ago 🤯), and find a drink I new knew I loved!!

Fantastic mirco-pub with a range of beer and spirits that will delight most drinkers. Plenty of choice on tap, and a nice selection of Belgian favourites in the fridge. Comfortable surroundings whether you're looking to sit inside or out... but beware!! This is a single room bar so it fills up quickly.

Friendly service.. Delicious pizza, with a portion of fries that was enough for 2 really... As a relaxed atmosphere and Guinness was spot on..

Superb bar with great staff that is tailored to fill a gap in the market while remaining welcoming to passers-by. The cocktails are dangerously nice, and the food is amazing too with fast service. The staff from the manager down are all excellent, friendly and go above and beyond with their service. AFK has quickly become my favourite bar in Sunderland, and is a real hidden gem. I was tempted to give it a two-star review to keep it that way 😆

A great new addition to the city centre. Half price cocktails before 9 make it such a cheap night out as well and with the consoles to play on for free it gives a brand new experience to the town.

Fair prices, delicious food! Only been here twice so far but both times it was nice and quiet, which is perfect since I have anxiety and don't do well in crowds I wanted a pizza roll like I got the first time, but it wasn't on the new menu so opted for a double sausage burger with bacon Cant speak for the drinks since I've never tried alcohol before but the menu makes them sound nice at least.

Very nice bar! Lots of tasty drinks and friendly staff. Had a Halloween shindig today and they gave free shots to everyone in costume so that was very fun intro to them. Chips were very good, couldn't see much ,if any, on their gluten free options, so eat cautiously, but that's not out of the ordinary for a small venue like this. Will go again!

Visited on our first night in Nashville. We knew nothing about the place and took a chance after seeing lots of people go in. We struck lucky and had a fantastic evening. We waited about 20 minutes for a table (at 8pm on a Saturday night) and then got seated in front of the stage. Bonus! The band were great (we saw the Aly Cutter Band). They interacted well with the audience and played a good mix of music. The food was great and was served quickly. Around 9.30 - 10pm they start clearing the tables at the front to make room for a dance floor. We watched the band from an upstairs balcony for a bit but didn't stay to boogie!

Dinner and drinks were very good at this restaurant. We booked reservations ahead of time and didn't have any issues getting in or out. The food was traditional Nashville style chicken. We ate an early dinner menu with a family of five. The kids enjoyed the music, bands, and atmosphere.

Wow what a place. Unfortunatly it was packed so couldnt get something to eat but thats fine the vibe was amazing the bands were great. Drinks were a bit EXPENSIVE🫣. Over all it was a very nice experience

Food was pretty good atmosphere was great. People watching was exceptional, live music playing in the back for anyone on here, saying the food was overpriced. Then you should probably go down the street to. McDonald's and get a big Mac Happy mail The whole point of having fun in Nashville is spending a little bit of money and letting loose. So, walk up the stairs and enjoy a good time. Don't take my word for it, but this isn't great spot.

We had no wait when we came in for lunch. Staff was very friendly and attentive. They have live music throughout the day and night. Inside is a dark lit, relaxed, and fun vibe. The food was surprisingly good, my steak was cooked perfectly and had great flavor, the portions seemed a bit small to me but that's up to preference. We visited the rooftop quickly before leaving to see the view of Broadway and were not disappointed. It is a shorter rooftop then some of the surrounding bars but still very cool.

Called in for lunch around 13-30, plenty tables so no problem getting seated. There was some kind of children’s crèche meeting in the adjacent room but all in all quite quiet. Real ale has always been good in here so no problem with that. The food came and was quite bland, not sure if the chicken and bacon in my sandwich was reheated. All in all not bad but I would not rush back for food

Ordered medium rare steak came well done and woefully over seasoned. My mouth is still tingling. I didn't have time to wait for another so ate it, but no one offered apology or checked with me if anything else could be done. When i did follow up feedback the response was it was cooked at the same temperature as yhe others. Will try not eat here again.

Our first time visiting tonight so we didn't know what to expect, but we certainly didn't leave disappointed. We were welcomed with fantastic service, friendly staff who clearly all work well as a team and get on like a family. We were made to feel like regulars despite it being our inaugural visit. I had the duck salad to start while my husband had chicken goujons. I was blown away by the duck salad, not something I expected to find in a pub, but it was delicious. My husband might aswell have licked his plate clean, there wasn't a bit left! For mains I opted for the seabass dish, which was a fantastic choice, full of flavour and plenty of it. My husband (beige eater) asked for a burger with no salad and for once, the wish was granted and there wasn't a shred of lettuce or a sneaky tomato in sight! Very pleasant all round. We couldn't believe it when they said the menu was only 2 days old, the quality was fab! We stayed for the quirky quiz which was full of laughs and some very different rounds compared to other quizzes we've been to. We'll be back next week and hope to make a regular appearance!

Went on Monday 16th December as a family for a Christmas meal/drinks ( 15 of us in total), a large variety of meals and drinks were bought and enjoyed very much. Lovely local pub with a great atmosphere and fantastic staff, we will be returning again as a family.

A very large pub on the main road between Mackem Land and Gods country. Some street parking at the front carpark at the rear. Lots of different areas inside for sitting with lots of room. Sitting area at the back. Staff are good and on the ball.

Never normally right a review but felt this place deserved one. Visited on Monday 5th June with a groupon voucher. At first I wasn’t even sure it looked open and from the outside I wasn’t expecting much but like the saying goes “ never judge a book by it’s cover” inside was spacious and clean and the staff where lovely and super friendly. Never been in before but was made to feel like regular. Then the food!! What can I say but wow! I’m still stuffed and it was literally the best pub burger I’ve ever eaten. It was so lush that I’d travel back from Durham and pay full price because it was delicious. It was that good that I took time to write a review. Because credit where credit is due, the chef is 10/10!! Thanks guys …. We’ll be back 😋

Lovely pub in Roker, one of the best I've ever been too. Lovely food options the jacket potatoes are my favourite! Came here when the sunderland match was on and the atmosphere was amazing , very loud but everyother time their is little to barely any noise. 100% recommend

Brunch visit on a rainy day, sat with dog walkers and parents with toddlers alike, all welcomed. Caters for gluten free and serves food hot to order. Went for Eggs Benedict friend had bacon on gluten free bread, hot pot of tea, delicious.

After meaning to try here for a while I popped in on a Saturday morning. Majority of menu includes Hollandaise so you’d expect gallons of the stuff in store. However at ordering I was told there was no Hollandaise 🤦🏻‍♂️ brunch it was (poached egg, bacon and avocado on toast or weirdly a crumpet). After waiting 35mins it arrived and was good and as expected. Cappuccinos were ok. £23 so can’t complain about value, food good but service could do with improving - smiles are free and should be easy but most waitresses were grumpy apart from one younger one. The girl I ordered from you’d think maybe rolled out the wrong side of bed lol. Wouldn’t rush back, would pop in again if passing so not all bad.

Beautiful (small) place with views over the pier. Interesting and varied breakfast menu. The food was nice, although felt a bit pricey. The table wasn't cleaned properly, even though we've asked a few times. Not sure if I'd come back.

Had a lovely breakfast here. Eggs poached to perfection & the sausages were lovely - not just the rubbish other places serve up. The staff were very attentive and asked if I would like another coffee after noticing I had finished my cappuccino. The chef did an amazing job & I will come again

Absolutely vile. Seats were ripped and wet, all of the beer on tap was off, tried to order multiple drinks but none available so we ended up with whatever they did have. Toilets were Absolutely horrific, shit up the walls and only 1 working toilet. Told staff and was laughed at Absolutely zero atmosphere

Went for Sunday carvery with the family & the staff are so attentive! Few teething problems but the staff made sure we were welcome,feed and watered! The tastiest parsnips and sprouts I have ever eating! 5* and the staff are informing me you can order on just eat!!

Came to Hiiden for brunch, room was freezing, it's sweet cider no prosecco, pizza was burnt, had to go to bar for drinks as told people at bar were a priority, couldn't get some cocktails as didn't have all ingredients and cocktails served in a coca cola glass

Just popped in on the off-chance and discovered a venue under new management with huge potential being realised. The vision and investment by the new owners is apparent. Right now I would recommend it to most of the people I know but in the short term it will become a multi-experience venue that will be an asset to Sunderland’s social life across the board. Give it a visit, it deserves the chance.

Never been out for Christmas lunch before but thought we would give it a try... the food was amazing and the service was excellent would definitely recommend

Was walking past when I noticed that they where serving a carvery today and wow I have never had a carvery taste so good and cost so cheap. Only £8 for a standard size, the waite staff where so friendly and greeted me with a warm welcome

Fantastic atmosphere, bar manager was a genius with cocktails. Service was spot on. Definitely be returning!

Popped into The Keel Tavern for a drink, ended up having food and a couple of drinks. Food was great, excellent portions and lovely flavours. Great atmosphere in the Keel and the staff were super friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend.

We had a 2 course dinner and was excellent food.. I had the braised ox I believe.. The choice of booze is very good and we had some lovely drinks, the hostess was very polite and friendly and it's a place we will come again when visit the area again

Came for England match on the big screen in Keel Square and decided to have dinner it was lovely, Staff were so friendly (Abby) food was lovely too.

Came here for a bite to eat before visiting the theatre. Service was quick (at first) and drinks came fast. There was a while to wait for the meals but was well worth it! It is a little on the pricier side but was worth the wait. However, we did feel like we were waiting a while to order one more drink and collect the bill; we ended up having to grab the attention of a passing bar person. Other than this minor inconvenience, it was a pleasant experience

Visited with Brother and Boyfriend for belated Xmas drinks. Place is warm, inviting and spacious. Love the decor rather inventive. Bar staff are to be highly praised for their knowledge and professionalism. Quick service, very friendly, chatty and can guide you. Tried a few ales and loved them all, even tried one that was recommended to me. Didn't try the food but will next time, a good veggie selection. Music was at a good level not intrusive so you could easily chat. Toilets were clean and well maintained. Love the toiletries. Would be happy to go in alone. Ideal for meeting up friends, well placed for The Sunderland Empire. Would recommend and definitely return.

Popped in on a mini pub-crawl in the area tonight. The whole town was quiet and so was Keel Tavern. That's a shame. Lovely place, well appointed, decent selection of beer/ales and friendly staff. We even sat outside and watched the big TV in the square as it showed us Sunderland. Sadly, we didn't do food so can't comment. Will return though.

Disappointing to pay £11.95 for two alcohol free drinks,one of them being a can of Guinness,the other being Kopparberg.Where's the incentive to go booze free? Anyway,nice outdoor area, although the wobbly tables and plants blocking the view of the massive Keel square TV screens need sorting out.Nice decor downstairs,but very dingy.Vegan food basically none existent on the menu,which was also disappointing.Nice friendly staff though.
