I ordered the cake about a week in advance and a lady had called me a few days before pickup to confirm the add-ons I had requested such as adding a frosted border and some glitter and luster dust. Our family sampled several items from her and overwhelmingly the chocolate chipsticks won. My son described it as a fig newton married a chocolate chip cookie. I am not here to speak to that, but only to share my recent experience. We recently used Flour Garden for our wedding. They had come highly recommended and we were excited to use them for our big day. My fiancé picked out all the details for the wedding cake, while I went over what I would like for the grooms cake. For the grooms cake, she had agreed to do a square cake and create my college logo, on top, from frosting. She also went into detail about how she would save the top tier of our cake in her freezer so that we could enjoy it on our 1 year anniversary. Fast forward to a couple of weeks prior to wedding … my fiancé had called her (in secret as a surprise to me) and asked her to make the grooms cake more intricate (making the cake the actual shape of the logo). She agreed and adjusted the price accordingly. My fiancé then asked when she should make final payment, but was not given an answer and was told that she would be given instructions at a later date on how to pay. My fiancé made repeated attempts, leading up to the wedding, to contact the owner in order to make payment. There was never any response. We paid all of our vendors on time and it was weird that we couldn't get a response from someone we were trying to pay. Fast forward to the wedding day and when things began to go sideways: 1) The grooms cake arrived in the shape of a circle (not a square like originally agreed or like a V which was later agreed to), had no frosting logo (agreed to 2x) and only had a small logo of my school printed out on an inkjet printer, taped to a toothpick and stuck into the top (never even discussed). It literally looked like a generic birthday cake with a small paper logo stuck into the top. Not only that, we paid a premium for the more intricate design that we never received! 2) She showed up at our wedding demanding payment!!! Seriously, she came into the venue during our wedding and made us look like deadbeats in front of our guests. We had contacted her many times prior about getting her paid and she never responded, only to show up in the middle of our ceremony demanding I write her a check in order for her to “release” the cakes. Later she told me that she wouldn’t have left without the cakes had I not paid her. Thank God I had my checkbook on me! I only paid her in full so that she would not cause a further scene during the most important day of my life! I figured I could pay her just to get her out there and then sort it out at a later date. 3) The top tier of our wedding cake is gone forever ☹ She never saved it per our agreement and acted confused when I later asked her about it. This was a service SHE presented and offered, but then later acted like it was something she had never even heard of. 4) I called her in order to discuss all of this. She claimed that she was “800 miles away and could not be bothered”, but that she would contact me on Monday 10/21/19. BIG SURPRISE, she never called back to resolve any of this. SO, long story short, I am sure that she has done a good job in the past, and honestly the cake tasted good, BUT she also made the grooms cake to some specification in her mind, charged us for it, showed up in our reception hall demanding money, lost our anniversary piece of cake, argued with me on the phone and then never returned our call to resolve the issue. Tavern was right around the corner from our hotel and we used it as our base of operations. The staff was exceptional. The food consistently good. And the drinks were always right. As soon as you stop into this business, it's almost as if you have stepped back into time. What I mean by that is the smell of baking butter hits you like a truck. That smell takes you back in time so when you were a kid and your mom was making a cake or something. That smell just brought back beautiful memories. The lady at the counter is one of the owners I think it's a mom and pop establishment. She was so welcoming to us when we entered the store. She greeted us with love. This is rare! She genuinely seemed happy to see us as if she knew us. We automatically started ordering cookies, and more cookies, and more cookies. Not only did we order cookies we also ordered sweet potato pie. I am so upset with myself that I did not get more than one slice. We wanted some peanut butter cookies as well but they didn't have any out in the display. Her husband was filling the display and we asked him did he have any in the back. He said yes I do. Eventually she asked us where we were from because she could tell we were not from Memphis. We told her we were from Atlanta. She advised that they were thinking about opening up a store here in Atlanta but in due time. We will definitely visit again if ever in Memphis. It sounds like the owner really cares about their customers experience as they replied suggesting that we could have asked for a refund or replacement rather than leaving this honest review. That’s great to see. Not all owners do that. But what I really prefer is good service, the first time done right so I don’t have to complain. I hate doing that. It is really taxing and uncomfortable.
