Unfortunately as awesome as the food was (minus the cheese grits) the service was absolutely horrible. We walked in and had a staring contest with the 3 hostess in the front. I finally asked do we seat ourselves they all replied no but said nothing after that mind you it's 47 degrees outside (cold) we were then asked if we wanted to sit on their patio (outside) 3 other groups came in behind us that were all greeted with welcoming smiles and instantly taken into the lower dining area to be seated. While still standing up front we informed staff that we too want to dine with everyone else indoors and from that point it just got worse. At this time we were the only African American couple in the room and the stares began, the room got so quiet once we walked in along with some eye rolls. Nothing about this experience felt welcoming, it was a great deal of tension from both staff and guests (not all but a great portion) we both felt like we were not supposed to be there. We were going to leave but then our food arrived which we ended up getting to go boxes and ate in the park in our car instead. It's very unfortunate to read more reviews of others having very similar experiences. The food was great but unfortunately due to our initial experience we won't be back to patronize this establishment. Not implying anything only sharing our experience and hoping others have a better experience moving forward. I guess we won't be skipping church anymore.

I eat the first piece (a drumstick) and it was not what I was expecting as far as flavor but I will say I could tell it came right out the fryer but it fell flat for seasoned meat. When I went to check out again no apology, I actually was met with a bit of an attitude. They charged me for a vegetable plate which was technically and overcharge because I didn’t eat the cornbread (it was on my plate) and only ate the (2) veggies I had ordered as sides which were in separate bowls. I ended up going with a breakfast platter that consisted of two scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns, white toast (that included jelly), and of course their famous single waffle. Prices here are affordable beyond recognition; my whopping platter with a soda only cost me about $10 for everything. All my food was ready within a very quick 5 minutes. Once I took the quite drive back to my hotel, I immediately was flabbergasted just how much food they give you here. Everything was piping hot and ready to be consumed. The eggs were cooked perfectly while the toast had a pretty hefty amount of salted butter prior to my spreading the sweet jelly over it. Bacon was greasy as expected as I assumed this stuff was cooked in lard. Hash browns were crispy on the outside with a soft texture on the inside. The waffle was fluffy and sweet and with their own house syrup, that only compliments to the added sweetness. This place is true southern comfort food at its finest. I can only imagine the amount of calories, sodium, and cholesterol I consumed on this platter as it is not the type of food to be eaten every day (or in my case, at night). But for the price, portions, and overall taste of this classic American staple, I was definitely not disappointed. My rating for the Sycamore View Rd. "Waffle House" in Memphis, TN is a solid four-stars.

The stalls were occupied so we had to wait, once we came back out all of our food had been thrown away. It was remade for us to go and I had to ask to speak to a manager, if not , no one would have ever even came by and apologized for the inconvenience and upon speaking with the manager an apology on the staffs behalf still was not made. I asked the General Manager if the food would be compensated for or at the very least discounted to accommodate the inconvenience. She said remaking the food was the accommodation. That is not an accommodation given that the plates were still full which is what I told her. She looked me right in my face and lied claiming to have looked at the camera footage and stated that the plates were empty which is ABSOLUTELY not true. With that being said I told her that they could keep the food and my daughter and I would be leaving, at that point she threatened to file a police report since I said that I was not going to pay for the food. Why would I pay for food that I did not even get the chance to eat dining in because the staff is incompetent and lacks common sense? She then proceeded to follow me outside. I’m highly disappointed and will never come back to this location. My wait time was longer than expected. However, specific to the location on Shelby Oaks in Memphis, TN, the curbside and carryout services are abysmal. I'd avoid it if it weren't the only location in town convenient to me. I always have to stand there waiting forever for my carryout order after they alert the kitchen that I'm there to pick up. I never make it home with everything I ordered. Trying to call an order in (or calling to address missing food items) instead of using the app leads to being put on hold forever before being hung up on. Making a complaint does get some relief, but if they comp you food and you try to redeem that comp? An even worse runaround from the staff. The manager has been made aware of this just by me numerous times and I know I'm not alone in making complaints.
