Budapest

Budapest, Hungary’s capital, is bisected by the River Danube. Its 19th-century Chain Bridge connects the hilly Buda district with flat Pest. A funicular runs up Castle Hill to Buda’s Old Town, where the Budapest History Museum traces city life from Roman times onward. Trinity Square is home to 13th-century Matthias Church and the turrets of the Fishermen’s Bastion, which offer sweeping views.

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Buda Castle, located on Castle Hill, is a UNESCO World Heritage site that offers a captivating journey through Hungarian history. The complex houses the Hungarian National Gallery, showcasing an extensive collection of art spanning from Gothic altars to contemporary works by renowned international and Hungarian artists. Visitors can admire pieces by French Impressionists like Monet and Pissarro as well as prominent Hungarian painters such as Munkacsy and Csontvary.
Castle with a lot Hungarian history. You can see much of the castle without buying any tickets. The real highlight is that you can get a good view of the Hungarian parliament as well as the bridge from here. It also lights up at night which looks nice if you’re looking at the castle from below or from the other side

Buda Castle in Budapest is absolutely spectacular. From the moment you arrive, the scale and elegance of the castle are breathtaking. The panoramic views of the Danube and Pest side are incredible, especially from the terrace. Inside, the museums offer fascinating exhibitions that mix history, art, and culture, making it more than just a sightseeing spot. The castle grounds themselves are wonderful to wander, with charming streets, courtyards, and little cafes where you can take a break and soak in the atmosphere. It’s a place where history and beauty come together perfectly and definitely deserves plenty of time to explore.
Sabrina V — Google review
Definitely worth visiting when in Budapest. Great views of the Pest side from the castle. It is truly spectacular at night with the lights on. There was a lot of restoration work being done so the scaffolding and equipment takes away some of the beauty of this place.

Very big castle and ancient architecture. I have went in the correct time. Because there is rennovation going on one side. Top view will be good for taking photos (chain bridge + Hungarian parliment ) from here..

It is another couple of minutes and you will end up in royal palace terrace. Super views and amazing ambiance.

Buda Castle is an absolutely stunning and essential part of any visit to Budapest. The castle complex itself is magnificent, with its beautiful architecture and rich history that you can feel with every step. The views from the castle grounds are simply breathtaking, offering panoramic vistas of the Danube River, the Parliament Building, and Pest. It's truly one of the best viewpoints in the city, especially at sunset. Walking around the courtyards and gardens is a very pleasant experience. There are several museums and the National Gallery inside the complex, which are well worth a visit if you have the time. The funicular ride up to the castle is also a unique and enjoyable way to start the visit. While it can get quite crowded, especially during peak season, it's a testament to its popularity. It's an iconic landmark for a reason and definitely a must-see for its history, architecture, and incredible views.

One of the most spectacular landmarks! Wonderful! Definitely worth a visit. We took the shuttle service which made the whole trip very pleasant, and retained ample energy to visit many interesting spots along the way! It was relatively hot weather so the shuttle was extra helpful. But there is also a public bus service that we realised later.

Basilica
Sights & Landmarks
St. Stephen's Basilica is a grand Roman Catholic church in Budapest, built between 1851 and 1905. It holds regular concerts and is a significant site in Hungarian history, as it stands on Saint Stephen Square, named after the first Hungarian king. The square is also the center of celebrations for Hungary's greatest holiday on August 20th, dedicated to King Stephen.
St. Stephen’s Basilica (Szent István Bazilika) – A Must-See Gem in Budapest St. Stephen’s Basilica is one of Budapest’s most breathtaking landmarks — a perfect blend of history, spirituality, and stunning architecture. The moment you step inside, you’re greeted by magnificent marble columns, golden domes, and intricate frescoes that truly showcase Hungary’s artistic heritage. The panoramic view from the dome is absolutely worth the climb — it offers one of the best 360° views of Budapest, especially at sunset when the city glows in warm golden light. The ascent is surprisingly smooth, with both stairs and an elevator option for convenience. The atmosphere inside is peaceful and reverent, even though it’s one of the city’s most visited attractions. The soft organ music often playing in the background adds to the divine feel of the place. If you’re lucky, you might catch a live concert — the acoustics here are world-class. It’s named after Hungary’s first king, St. Stephen, and even houses his mummified right hand, which is fascinating to see up close. The entry is free, but a small donation is encouraged and completely worth it for maintaining this masterpiece. 📸 Tip: Visit during the golden hour or in the evening when the basilica’s exterior is beautifully illuminated — it’s a photographer’s dream. Overall, St. Stephen’s Basilica is not just a religious monument — it’s a cultural and architectural treasure that captures the spirit of Budapest.
Rajwinder D — Google review
Richly decorated art nouveau style basilica, full of history and relics. The mosaics are impressive, the style is magnificent and sculptures are masterful. There is so much to see here. Tip: buy your tickets online at least a couple of days in advance. They don't sell tickets at the entrance and there is often none available even online
Ava ( — Google review
What a beautiful church. The details are incredible. We went to a concert tonight - the music was beautiful. Definitely recommend! Also, go to the Panoramic viewpoint. You can take the elevator up partway, but you still need to climb several floors of stairs- but it was so cool to see the cement structure of the dome!
Tena S — Google review
Absolutely breathtaking! Visiting St. Stephen’s Basilica was an unforgettable experience. The interior left me amazed, the details, artwork, and overall grandeur are simply stunning. It’s truly one of the most beautiful pieces of architecture I’ve ever seen, and I’d say it’s a must-visit in Budapest. We bought tickets for the church only, and even that was more than worth it. The craftsmanship inside is so intricate that you can spend a long time just admiring the details. The Basilica is also home to Hungary’s most sacred relic, the mummified right hand of St. Stephen, the first King of Hungary, which is displayed in the chapel. For those interested, there’s also an option to visit the dome, which offers a panoramic view of Budapest — I didn’t do it this time, but I’ve heard it’s well worth it. Tickets are reasonably priced, and it’s a good idea to check the opening hours as the Basilica also hosts concerts and services. Highly recommend adding this to your Budapest itinerary — both for its beauty and its cultural significance.
Priti S — Google review
This church is one of my mom’s favorites, and during our visit to Budapest it quickly became one of mine as well. It’s definitely a must-see. You do need a ticket to enter, but purchasing them online is simple, and entry times are clearly scheduled. The area outside can get quite busy, yet inside the basilica it feels calm and organized. The architecture is stunning, and after your visit there are plenty of dining options nearby.
BA — Google review
Saint Stephen’s Basilica is A Must-See Masterpiece ⛪️ Wow…just wow. Saint Stephen’s Basilica is absolutely breathtaking. Whether you’re religious or not, or even if you’re not the “church enthusiast” type, this is one spot in Budapest you have to see. To say the interior is stunning would be an understatement, it’s jaw-droppingly beautiful. (Check the pictures below, words barely do it justice.) The church is massive and has multiple parts to explore: the main hall, an elevator leading up to the terrace, and the treasury upstairs. Pro tip: go for the all-access ticket. It’s around €23 per person and 100% worth it. Sure, the main church alone is lovely if you’re in a rush, but the terrace and treasury really complete the experience. The terrace view of Budapest is absolutely gorgeous. Not to be biased, but it’s honestly better than the sky deck 😂 Plan for about an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes to see everything at a relaxed pace. There are toilets upstairs too, which is another reason to grab that all-access pass (seriously, finding public bathrooms in Budapest can be an adventure on its own 💀). Overall…An incredible landmark, well worth the time and money. If you’re in Budapest, put this high on your list. It’s a true gem of the city.
Dário R — Google review
Hello! The in-person ticket office is across the street (off ground), so be aware. The line to get tickets was not long at all. The basilica and panoramic view combination is the best value. There is a discount for seniors (65 years and older). The basilica is a wonder to see! There are many alcoves as well as central seating. Don’t forget to look up as the ceilings are also quite beautiful to see. The entrance for the panoramic view area is near the main entrance and you don’t have to exit the basilica to access. Your choice on walking up the 304 steps or taking a lift to get to the third floor. A second lift gets you up to the panoramic area - there is a limit to four persons per car on that second lift. On the way back down, visit the Treasury for a break in those 304 steps. Enjoy!
Jeffrey B — Google review
Make sure you get tickets not just to go inside but up to the top. You can take a lift pretty much all the way up there and there are toilets also. I’d suggest going at night get an amazing view of the city lit up.

The Hungarian Parliament Building, a stunning example of neo-Gothic architecture, is a must-see landmark in Budapest. Situated along the Danube River, it boasts lavishly decorated rooms and towering spires that captivate architectural enthusiasts and history buffs alike. Families with older children interested in history and politics will also find the site intriguing. To avoid long lines, booking a tour in advance is recommended.
The Hungarian Parliament Building is one of the most impressive landmarks in Budapest. The architecture is stunning, with incredible details that reflect the city’s rich history and culture. Even from the outside, the view is breathtaking, especially when seen from across the Danube River. The building looks magnificent both during the day and beautifully lit up at night. It’s a must-visit spot for anyone coming to Budapest, whether for a quick photo stop or a full guided tour.
Saeed B — Google review
This is really an impressive building and worth of sightseeing from inside as well. They have prepared the guides in many languages which is very good so people or not limited to english only. It woould be better that the tour was a bit longer and probably more detailed but overall it was fine. Thr big remark goes to the price for entrance which is huge!
Travel — Google review
The Hungarian Parliament Building at night is breathtaking. As darkness settles over Budapest, the entire Gothic Revival masterpiece glows with a golden light that reflects across the Danube, creating a mirror image so perfect it feels dreamlike. Seen from the Buda side, the building dominates the skyline, every spire and arch illuminated with precision. The reflection rippling in the river gives the scene a kind of quiet grandeur that photographs never quite capture. Up close on the Pest side, the building feels even more impressive. The sheer scale, the intricate carvings, and the warm glow of the stone make it clear why it’s one of Europe’s architectural treasures. At night, the Parliament isn’t just a government seat—it’s a symbol of the country’s history, pride, and resilience, standing tall against the dark sky. The best time to visit is after sunset, when the crowds thin and the city slows down. Walk along the Danube promenade, pause on the Chain Bridge, or simply sit by the water and watch the lights flicker. It’s one of those views that remind you why travel matters: moments of stillness and awe that stay with you long after you’ve left.
TheMindisCurious — Google review
One of the most beautiful buildings in Europe and an absolute must-see in Budapest. The architecture is stunning from every angle — day or night — but seeing it lit up in the evening is truly magical. The area around the Parliament is clean, safe and perfect for walking. You can enjoy the riverside view, take amazing photos and really feel the history of the city. Even if you don’t go inside for a tour, the exterior alone is worth the visit. If you can, go both during the day and at night — completely different vibe and both unforgettable.
Sevi — Google review
One of the most magnificent buildings in all of Europe, pure architectural poetry on the banks of the Danube. The neo-Gothic spires, symmetry, and sheer scale are jaw-dropping, especially when seen from across the river or from a Danube night cruise. Up close, the craftsmanship is even more intricate, statues, arches, and details that feel almost unreal. It’s stunning by day but beyond magical at night, when it glows gold against the dark river. Tip: Skip the guided tour if short on time - the real magic is outside, especially at sunset from the opposite bank or from Fisherman’s Bastion.
Neel B — Google review
The Hungarian Parliament Building is one of the most stunning landmarks in Europe. Built in a Neo-Gothic style with pointed towers and intricate details, it dominates the Danube’s riverside skyline. Even if you don’t go inside (the interior visit is paid), it’s absolutely worth admiring from the outside. For the best view, head to the Buda side — the sight of the Parliament reflecting on the river is simply unforgettable.
Luana B — Google review
One of the most stunning structures I've seen. Incredibly beautiful. From all sides. From any distance. Top 1 in Budapest. The photos look unreal, but they're real!) I highly recommend a tour inside. It lasts about an hour. Available in different languages. You definitely need to book in advance for a specific time, because the number of spots is limited. You might wait a couple of hours if you don't book. This is an active government building, so there are security measures - you need to arrive at least 10-15 minutes before your scheduled time. Of course there are items that are prohibited from bringing inside. Regarding the parliament inside. Very atmospheric. A completely different style than the exterior. In my opinion there's too much gold) but it's definitely worth it
Павел К — Google review
I didn’t go inside, but even from the outside, the Hungarian Parliament left me speechless! The architecture is absolutely stunning — elegant, powerful, and perfectly reflected on the Danube River. I could’ve stood there for hours just admiring the view. Especially during sunset, it feels like a dream. One of the most beautiful landmarks in Budapest, no doubt! 💛

Traditional market
Food & Drink
The Central Market Hall in Budapest is a restored neogothic hall that offers a diverse shopping and dining experience. The ground floor features grocery produce, including Hungarian paprika, fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese, meat, pastries, wine, chocolate, and jams. On the first floor, visitors can find souvenirs and various food stands offering a wide range of culinary delights. This three-story market is an ideal place to shop for local goods while enjoying lunch and picking up souvenirs.
The building was designed and built by Samu Pecz in 1897. The market offers a wide variety of stalls on three floors. The entrance gate has a neo-Gothic touch. A special architectural feature is the roof, which was renovated with colorful Zsolnay tiles from Pécs. The building is 10,000 square meters in size and is covered with a steel structure. During the Second World War, the market was heavily damaged. It was not until 1991 that a thorough renovation was undertaken, which restored it to its original splendor. The building was reopened in 1997, and in 1999 it was awarded the FIABCI Prix d'Excellence. The Central Market is still one of the city's most popular tourist attractions. Most of the stalls on the ground floor offer produce, meat, pastries, sweets, spices and spirits. You can find paprika spice, Tokaj wine, Túró Rudi, kolbász sausages and salamis there. On the second mezzanine floor there are restaurants and stalls selling tourist souvenirs. In the basement there are fishmongers, stalls with selected vegetables and a few specialized butchers.
Erik V — Google review
It is the largest indoor market in Budapest, located at one end of the famous Váci utca. It is located in a building whose facade is built in a neo-Gothic style, very pleasing to the eye and in harmony with the architecture of the neighboring buildings. Inside, on the ground floor you will find many shops with local cold cuts, dairy, wines and other products. In the basement is the fish market. You can reach the upper level by several stairs but also by an escalator, located in close proximity of the main entrance. Access to the shops on the first floor is along corridors that look like balconies. Here are numerous gift/souvenir shops but also the Fakánal Etterem restaurant, which, if you want to taste the flavors of traditional Hungarian food, you must definitely make a stop. We did and we did not regret it. At lunchtime, when we arrived, we had to be a little patient to get to the desired menu, but it was worth it. I treated myself with a goulash soup and a portion of stuffed cabbage rolls. Everything was very tasty. I consider this place to be recommended to visit.
Cri B — Google review
It’s a nice market full of both dry goods and groceries. A lot of fresh meat products and vegetables could be found here and with good quality. On the second floor, there’s a selection of souvenirs, as well as some food stalls selling local food.
Minnie L — Google review
The Great Market Hall (Nagyvásárcsarnok) is one of Budapest’s true gems—an impressive blend of history, culture, and vibrant daily life. From the moment you step inside, the soaring iron-and-glass architecture sets the tone, creating an atmosphere that feels both grand and authentically local. The ground floor is packed with fresh produce, meats, bakery items, and spices. The paprika displays alone are worth the visit, offering every variety you can imagine. Vendors are friendly and used to visitors, but the hall still feels like a working market rather than a tourist trap. Upstairs, you’ll find a lively collection of food stalls and traditional Hungarian dishes. It’s a fantastic place to try lángos, goulash, stuffed cabbage, or pastries at very reasonable prices. There are also plenty of souvenir stands if you’re looking for gifts like embroidered linens, wooden crafts, or local snacks. What makes the Great Market Hall special is its balance: you get a genuine snapshot of Hungarian everyday life while still having easy access to delicious food and great shopping. It can get busy, especially midday, but the energy is part of the charm. Overall, the Great Market Hall is a must-visit in Budapest—whether you’re there to eat, shop, or just soak in the atmosphere of one of the city’s most iconic buildings. This place is also next to lots of public transportation.
A2Z R — Google review
The Central Market Hall in Budapest is a wonderful place to explore if you want to experience local Hungarian culture in one spot. The market is housed inside a beautiful, well-organised historic building that feels lively but not chaotic. Everything is neatly arranged, and it’s easy to navigate through the different sections. You can find plenty of authentic Hungarian products here — from fresh local vegetables and spices to handmade crafts and souvenirs. There are also food stalls offering traditional dishes, so you can enjoy a snack or meal right inside the market while soaking in the atmosphere. The vendors are friendly and take pride in their products, making the experience feel genuine rather than touristy. There’s a good mix of local shoppers and visitors, which adds to its charm. The market also has clean, paid toilet facilities, which is convenient if you plan to spend more time browsing. Whether you’re looking for paprika, embroidered linens, or just a good place to people-watch, the Central Market Hall offers it all. It’s an enjoyable and colourful stop that captures the real spirit of Budapest in a single building.
AKASH U — Google review
Lots of fresh food of all varieties, including meat, vegetables and baked goods. Paprika of every flavor and size. Goodies to eat and souvenirs for the trip home. It can be very crowded so have some patience. Many of the vendors are closed on Sunday, especially the fresh food vendors.
Tom F — Google review
We went on a Sunday afternoon, therefore many vendors were closed. However, the building was still great to see and walk around. We did get food from the only vendor that was open serving hot food. We tried the Goulash and a variation on open sandwich with traditional sausages, cheese, roasted onions in a yummy bread.

One of my favourite spots in town! If you visit Budapest you shouldn't miss this one! It has many sweet and savory traditional products to try! On the upper level they also have a big variety of souvenirs and restaurants.

Nestled in the heart of the Danube, Margaret Island is a serene oasis offering medieval ruins and lush gardens. It's a popular spot for recreation, with activities like renting pedal carts or rowboats. The island appeals to nature lovers, families, and those seeking outdoor leisure. Visitors can enjoy a peaceful respite and explore the island's natural beauty through its musical fountain and sprawling lawns overlooking the river.

Restaurant
Nestled near the Basilica, Borkonyha Winekitchen is a sophisticated restaurant that earned its first Michelin star in 2014. It offers contemporary cuisine with a focus on Hungarian dishes and pairs them with over 200 local wines. The dining room is elegant, adorned with smart mirror-lined walls. The restaurant takes pride in its nose-to-tail aesthetic and creative reinterpretations of classic cooking, using top-quality ingredients to create exquisite dishes that blend traditional flavors with modern influences.
The experience was great from beginning to end. I had reservations for 18:00 and was immediately seated. They helped me with choosing wines and paid very close attention when I finished my meal and water. Food was very good. I chose the tasting menu and each dish was delectable from start to finish. The atmosphere is very relaxed. I highly recommend!

Fantastic experience through and through. This is not an uber fancy Michelin location, but it does what you need it to really well. Service friendly, fast and professional. Chef’s gifts were a delight and starters were very tasty. However the mains stole the show, with excellent meat quality and cooking craftsmanship, artfully presented. They were some of the best meals I have ever had in my life. This was excellently complimented by the fantastic wine pairings. Even as a local to area I was able to discover some new Hungarian wines that were simply sublime. If you are going here I would highly recommend the wine pairings! One of the best in Budapest!

An incredible experience. We made reservations for an evening at this Michelin Star wine kitchen. It was all about the food. The quality. The taste. The presentation. Quite phenomenal. Note that the total price I am quoting here includes the fact that my elderly in-laws don’t consume a full meal so some were shared plates. The 4 of shared: One bottle of wine 3 sparkling waters One salad One duck lever pate appetizer 3 entrees 1 dessert The meal came with: An amazing bread basket A gift plate of appetizers from the kitchen 8 dessert tasters Our bill was 94000 Ft or $400 Canadian. Great experience, incredible food and excellent value.
Brian B — Google review
This was my treat for my partners birthday - we had a lovely table and a superb meal and wine flight to match. As my partner doesn’t eat sweet things they were accommodating and swapped a cheese course in instead of the dessert element of the tasting menu just for him. Good start! In all the food was superb but we found the up to 30 minute wait time between the tasting courses to be too long and by time the final course arrived we felt it had taken the shine off the evening. Additionally it was clear the sommelier was more interested in the table next to us that were splashing the cash which was a faux pas in my opinion - we chose not to stay on and sought out after dinner drinks elsewhere - it seems not all guests are even here.
Kaye M — Google review
Truly excellent food, wine and service! We had a three course á la carte dinner and recommended local wine, which was absolutely amazing! Perfection in every taste, in every texture. Some tiny details could be improved, like that the wine was a bit late, it should be served before the starter and main course, but that's not enough to withdraw a star, and everything else was absolutely brilliant!
Kristoffer R — Google review
Top notch restaurant in Budapest. Great cost performance, nice service and absolutely amazing food. It works in a traditional fine dining setting, less surprising dishes but quality and taste are well guaranteed. You can trust them to bring you quality food and possibly a great dining experience. I sat indoors while many chose to do outside. Both are fine, highly recommended if you visit Hungary.

Restaurant
Rosenstein Vendéglő is a renowned family-run restaurant in Budapest, offering an extensive menu of traditional Hungarian and Hungarian-Jewish dishes. Established in 1996 as a simple buffet, it has evolved into one of the city's most popular family-owned restaurants. The warm and welcoming ambiance makes diners feel like they are having a meal at their grandmother's house.
The food we had there was absolutely fantastic! Their chicken in paprika sauce is so tender and smooth. The atmosphere is so relaxed and welcoming. The sserver we had was lovely but you need to have a cheeky sense of humour. We absolutely loved it and we were so happy to find a traditional Hungarian restaurant with good food.

Food was quite good here. Goulash was average but the spicy chicken and beef dishes (I don’t know the Hungarian names) were really good. Meat was really tender and the spicy sauce was amazing. Would certainly come back given the chance

A real family-style restaurant with long traditions, great service, and most importantly exceptional food. Unfortunately, Hungarian dishes are not the most photogenic (or my photos are lame), yet I can guarantee that the dishes served are both authentic Hungarian dishes (some with a Jewish twist), great in flavour, and very reasonably priced. Overall, great value for money.
József D — Google review
Had lunch at Rosenstein Vendéglő, a long-standing family restaurant known for Hungarian classics and Ashkenazi Jewish dishes done with care. I had one of the chef’s offer dishes — pan-fried goose foie gras in Tokaji sauce — which was rich, silky, and beautifully balanced. Their goulash was excellent too, comforting and full of depth. What surprised me most though was the sourdough bread: crusty, airy, and easily one of the best I’ve had in a long time (and I say that as someone who takes sourdough seriously). It was definitely a memorable meal in Budapest.

The menu was extensive and everything we ordered tasted incredible. Professional, prompt service and very reasonably priced for such a good meal - would recommend to anyone.

The food didn't taste so fantastic for us but it might just be what we ordered. The potato croquettes was very good though. I also liked the desserts. The reservation list was a bit of a mess but might be due to the language barrier. The service could be better but wasn't bad. The place is clean and cozy.

We ate here based on the recommendation of a local guy my friend met in the train and I’d say that we love our choice of food and it was worth the commute all the way from Visegrad. Didn’t had the photo but we also ordered a gundel pancake as per his recommendation.

Café Kör is a traditional Hungarian restaurant located in Budapest, offering a warm and inviting dining room with vaulted ceilings. The restaurant is known for its wide range of Hungarian dishes, executed to a high standard and not just catering to tourists and expats. Reservations are highly recommended during the tourist season. The cozy atmosphere takes diners back to pre-war Budapest with its classic décor featuring bentwood Thonet chairs and carpeted floors.
we went there during our holidays a two months ago, we were 8 and managed to book in the same day we wanted to go. we arrive in a central location so easy to reach, the place has such authentic and comfy vibe. professional staff, and not so long to wait even if the restaurant was almost full. the food was amazing, i had no words to describe it. really recommended!

We immediately found a table when we arrived, and the staff member who attended to us was very kind and attentive. I wanted to try the duck, and it was both delicious and filling with its large portions. The service was quick. The only problem was that a strong smell of food was coming from the ventilation window downstairs, which was quite disturbing for us.

Close to the Basilica. Tried Hungarian dishes here for the first time. Their goulash is delicious. My favorite was part of their lunch menu, the oven baked duck leg. Servings were generous. They have limited non-alcoholic drinks. We ordered lemon iced tea and house-made iced tea. Both served in big glasses. Service was great and they also have clean toilets.

The restaurant has a really cozy atmosphere. They have both a standard menu and a special one with recommendations, handwritten on posters. I ordered the foie gras, and they served complimentary bread — a really good ciabatta. The foie gras was absolutely amazing! So fragrant and rich, with a perfect amount of fat, and the portion was quite generous. The potato slices were also cooked just right. I was totally satisfied — the best foie gras I’ve had in Budapest!

We made a reservation for six people for dinner and were seated at our table without any issues upon arrival. They have a standard menu as well as a daily/weekly specials menu displayed on the wall (also available in English). At our table, we ordered the duck, the goose leg, and the pan-fried foie gras. The foie gras was especially outstanding — both in flavor and in portion size. The duck main course was good, though compared to other places I’ve tried, it felt slightly overcooked. The goose leg, on the other hand, was excellent: perfectly crispy on the outside and very flavorful. One detail that caught my attention was that in the photos I had seen before, a single portion appeared to come with two goose legs served on the same plate, whereas ours came with only one. The dishes arrived quite quickly. The atmosphere inside was calm, though in my opinion a bit dim and on the darker side.

Really delicious food — even though it’s in a tourist area, I can assure you it’s absolutely worth it. If you’re coming for great food, this is your place! It doesn’t have a fancy atmosphere or special lighting, but that means nothing once you taste the food. I also saw the owner personally making sure everything was running well, which is always wonderful to see. Thank you for keeping such high-quality food and standards!

my first time trying out classic Hungarian food! i had a salad and the well-known goulash with croquettes, and the food didn’t disappoint one bit. they actually made a mistake with my salad, as i only ordered a fresh mixed salad but they brought me a fish salad; however they, they only charged me the original mixed salad price. i came here during dinner time on a thursday night but they were able to give me a table right away. the staffs were busy but they were friendly and attentive. would recommend this to others.

I first came here in 1996 with my sister who was living in Budapest. I returned in 2018, sent numerous friends here and just returned again in Nov 2025. Each time my meals were delicious and authentic, very much like what my Hungarian mother made. Restaurants in Budapest have become outrageously expensive, Cafe Kor still has reasonable prices. Do not miss coming here! 🇭🇺❤️🌶️

Babel Budapest, established in 2008, is a Michelin-starred restaurant that reflects the passion of its owner, Hubert Hlatky Schlichter. The restaurant's historical significance is evident in the walls marked by the Great Flood of 1838. With an exclusive seating capacity of only 12 tables, Babel offers an exquisite dining experience rooted in Transylvanian cuisine. Chef Istvan Veres infuses traditional dishes with a fresh twist, drawing inspiration from his childhood meals.
We had a really nice evening! The food was good — the turbot soup and the beef were especially tasty and well-prepared; the dessert had a lovely mix of flavours. In general, I was expecting a bit more in terms of presentation and colours, but the taste made up for it. The wine pairing was excellent. The birthday surprise for my wife was a really thoughtful touch. The staff were friendly and attentive, which made the whole experience feel special.

We had a very pleasant dinner and a amazing night. Food is very good and matches the Michelin Guide rating. But beyond the supreme food you will very kind people who pay attention. This makes the dinner perfect. If you want to have a bit of a Hungarian wine journey, the win pairing is highly recommended.

The best meal I ever eaten!!! 13 course menu, each dish was more tasty then the last. Modern Hungarian cuisine, some flavor were mainly for Hungarian taste (the bacon was salty (for my taste) and strong goat cheese cake (but I like it). The best experience I recommend in Budapest The chef is very talented

An absolutely must if you love food, exclusive service and the feeling of being at home at the same time, great hospitality. We also love the wine paring, great wine from all of Hungary. Even some of the ingredients are from there own farm, pretty cool I think.

A truly world-class experience. Our dinner at Babel Budapest was nothing short of extraordinary — an experience that stands out even on a global scale. The 12-course tasting menu was masterfully curated, with every detail thoughtfully designed and artistically presented. Each dish was not only a visual masterpiece but also a flavor journey of the highest caliber. The Hungarian wine pairings were absolutely perfect and elevated the entire experience. The service was warm, attentive, and genuinely caring throughout the evening. Heartfelt congratulations to the team— in our opinion, Babel truly deserves three Michelin stars. If you’re in Budapest, this place is an absolute must!

⸻ We had dinner at the Michelin-starred Babel restaurant and it was absolutely fantastic. The atmosphere, the setting, the presentation, the dishes, the wines, and the service were all flawless. Truly an unforgettable experience. We felt amazing throughout the evening — this is without a doubt one of the best restaurants in Budapest, right in the heart of the city. The quality is truly 5-star!

Restaurant
Menza Étterem és Kávéház is a popular eatery located on Liszt Ferenc Square, just off Andrassy Boulevard. The restaurant features a retro 70s-style interior with modern and innovative cooking. It offers a varied menu with weekly and daily specials, including traditional Hungarian dishes like goulash soup and beef stew. One of their standout dishes is the garlic cream soup topped with a mini-langos, a traditional Hungarian snack.
We came here for lunch, without any reservation. It was a bit crowded so we waited for around 20 minutes until there was a table available for us. It was worth it! The food was fresh and delicious, huge portions and tasty! The staff is vrey friendly, always with a smile on their face and the ambiance is cozy. Would reccomend. Oh and we got free cookies at the end. Thank you!

We had a wonderful dinner at Menza, which offers a great blend of tasty food and a modern, fancy-casual atmosphere. It’s clearly a popular spot, and for good reason, but my number one tip is to book a table in advance! We saw a queue forming at the entrance, and having a reservation meant we could walk straight in. The menu is very tourist-friendly, offering a QR code on the table that brings up the menu in six different languages. The prices were quite reasonable for the quality and the location. For our meal, we tried a mix of classic and contemporary dishes: The Hungarian Beef Stew (Marhapörkölt) was delicious and a perfect taste of local cuisine. The Menza Burger was very tasty, but be prepared for a bit of a mess – it was a little unstable and tended to fall apart while eating. The house Menza draft beer was served perfectly cold and was excellent. We finished with the cheesecake, which was also very good. The service was generally positive; the staff were nice and helpful, though they seemed a bit rushed, which is understandable given how busy the restaurant was. Overall, I'd give Menza a solid 4 out of 5 stars. It's a fantastic choice for a lively dinner in Budapest, offering great food in a stylish setting. Just make sure you book ahead to avoid a wait.

Best meal we had in Budapest. Beautiful restaurant with plenty of seating. Service was very quick. Food was beautifully plated, generous portion, reasonable pricing and tasty. Recommend the duck leg with pumpkin risotto and garlic cream soup with langos (although langos was oily and bit too doughy ). The meat in the goulash with spaetzle was a bit dry. The honey mustard pork chop meat was also dry. Overall a lovely meal.

We spent a very nice evening here. The service and atmosphere is great! My friend thinks that his dish was very average, I loved my duck liver, perfectly cooked, although mushed potatoes were disappointing: I understand that using a blender is easier to achieve smooth texture results but the texture changes as well. All chefs know that. All in all I would visit this restaurant again.

A nice Hungarian restaurant that tailored mainly for tourists. Interesting dishes, tasty food. Good for tourists wanting to try something new. But some dishes were too salty.

I went there just after they opened at 11:30am. I went alone without reservation and was let in right away. I ordered the crispy goose leg with braised red cabbage and mashed potato as main. The goose leg has crispy skin, a bit fatty and cooked just right. The mashed potato is not your typical mash which has lumps (I'm not sure if this is how they do it in Hungary) and the braised red cabbage provided a bit of tartness which cuts through the fattiness of the goose leg. The crispy carrot ribbons offered a nice change in mouth feel. I had the pineapple and mango drink which was refreshing and was served in a big glass. For the dessert, I had the vegan panna cotta which seemed that it had a light coconut milk base with pomegranate and blueberries, and tiny tapioca pearls. It was light, not too sweet and a nice dessert to a quite hearty main dish. The panna cotta's consistency though is a bit different which is closer to a protein yogurt rather than the usual panna cotta. Overall, it was a nice lunch, the ambiance was relaxing, and service was fast.

I don’t have much to say every word would be unnecessary. The food is perfect, the cooking is spot on, and every dish is made and served with great love. The service is outstanding. Highly recommend reserving a table in advance come, and enjoy.
