Ruszwurm Confectionery is a historic family-run cafe located in the Castle District of Buda, Budapest. Established in 1827, this charming dessert cafe is renowned for its traditional Hungarian pastries, including the iconic creamy pastry known as "kremes." The cafe's signature almond cake has been a best-seller for nearly two decades and offers a delightful harmony of almond cream and caramel layers.
We had a tour and talked to owner. What an amazing story behind their purchase and getting into the business. Lovely people and wonderful products. Not a dining experience. A candy, confectionery business.
Paul B — Google review
Coffee shop with a lot of history. Great coffee and very nice cakes, the Ruszwurm custard cake was delicious. Avoid the lemonade; many people left it unfinished. Unfortunately, it's a popular tourist spot, so the shop is always very busy, and the service was very poor.
KloudManc — Google review
The cake was highly popular. I guess we are not for it as it had lots of cream but it is a cream cake so it’s only natural. It tasted good though. We just wanted to try this cafe as it has a long history. If you sit indoors, it is warm though so maybe sitting outdoors would be much better😀
Yeo ( — Google review
Absolutely loved this patisserie! The cake was moist, flavorful, and perfectly sweet — you can tell it’s made with love. The coffee was rich and smooth, a perfect match. What really makes this place special is the charming old-school vibe — vintage decor, cozy atmosphere, and a peaceful setting that takes you back in time. A good spot to unwind with a treat. Highly recommend!

We came for the Kremes ( Vanilla Cream Slice) and stayed for the Almond cake. Last visit was 8yrs ago and it is exactly as we remember. Yes the wait might be long to get a table and the staff are busy, but that's because it is so good. There are lots of beautiful places to sit not too far from the cafe so if the line is long, grab it to go. We visited twice this time around and great both times
Daniella B — Google review
Historic and popular café near Buda Castle, but a bit overrated. We waited in a long queue for an outdoor table. Tried three recommended pastries—none were particularly impressive. Staff wasn’t friendly. Not accessible for wheelchairs—there are 3–4 steps at the entrance.
Trawheel.packer — Google review
Good coffee and cream cake. The reason I gave it 1 star is because the service was bad. This cafe is known for its cream cake. Upon arrival I ordered 4 coffees and 4 cream cakes. We then got 4 coffees promptly and then just got 1 cream cake. I asked where the other 3 were and the server said they were sold out. Why couldn't he tell me this earlier? Secondly, this cafe is famous for cream cake, how could they sell out of such an iconic item
Akil M — Google review
If you’re a fan of desserts and tasty pastries, you must try their pastries. You will not be disappointed. I bake a lot and what I tried was heavenly. Congrats for making cakes and baked goodies for almost 200 years. Food: 5+/5 - we had the crème cake, caramel cake and Eszterhazy torta! My favorite was the Ruszwurm cake. They even have cookies and gluten free options. Try their assorted drinks and ice creams. I had the sour cherry lemonade which was full of fruity taste. They also offer takeout if you choose not to wait. Service: 5/5 the servers outside did a wonderful job with the crowd control as the odd person tried sneaking in. The lineups can get crazy and hectic. Atmosphere: 4/5 - there was outdoor and inside seating.

Restaurant
Café Gerbeaud, established in 1858, is a renowned and lavishly adorned coffeehouse located in Budapest. The grand dining room features high ceilings and elegant chandeliers, offering a selection of coffee, delectable cakes, and Hungarian bistro specialties. The café's opulent décor includes original exotic-wood paneling, antique furniture, and intricate stucco details.
An iconic and elegant café in the heart of Budapest. I tried the famous Dobos Cake, a traditional Hungarian dessert made of thin sponge layers, rich chocolate buttercream, and a shiny caramel top. It was absolutely delicious, perfectly balanced and not too sweet. The cake itself has a long history: it was created by József C. Dobos in the late 1800s and became one of the symbols of Hungarian pastry art, once served even to the Austro-Hungarian royal family. The interior of Café Gerbeaud is stunning, with chandeliers, marble tables, and an atmosphere that feels like stepping back in time. Prices are a bit high, but the experience is truly worth it.
Patrizia P — Google review
We went to this cafe on a weekday afternoon, and the indoor area was full! Beautiful interior design, very elegant. We had the Hungarian classics on one plate, which contained three slices of dessert selections with vanilla ice cream and apricot sauce. To be honest, didn’t expect that’s how the famous Dobo cake tasted like😅it’s just not for the ones with weak teeth.. the top layer was extremely sturdy. We enjoyed the Gerbeaud slice more.
Minnie L — Google review
A truly charming spot that feels like time has paused. You may wait a couple of minutes for a table, but turnover is quick. Pastries are excellent. Opt for the tasting menu to sample the range. The coffee is the star: precise extractions, smooth milk drinks, and aromatic filters. Service is warm and attentive without hovering. A lovely place to drop in for a mid-afternoon reset or an unhurried chat. Wholeheartedly recommended.

Overpriced and not worth the hype. I visited Gerbeaud Café, intrigued by its historic reputation and grand interior, and went specifically to try the famous traditional Hungarian layer cake — Dobos Torte. However, the experience was quite disappointing. We visited after lunch hours and noticed a queue of about 10–12 people outside, even though it moved fairly quickly. Once inside, we were surprised to see the café almost empty. It really felt like they keep people waiting just to create an illusion of high demand — they could easily allocate seats faster. The most shocking part was the pricing. If you choose to dine in, you pay almost double — for example, a slice of Dobos Torte costs 4,250 HUF when eaten on the premises versus 1,990 HUF for takeaway. We decided to go for takeaway instead, and honestly, I’m glad we did. The famous Dobos cake itself was underwhelming — the caramel layer on top was rock hard and nearly impossible to cut, the sponge layers were dry, and the overall taste was overly sweet and unimpressive. An experience I wouldn’t repeat, and definitely not something I’d recommend — especially considering the unreasonable prices.
Dory G — Google review
The beautifully designed and elegant interiors alone make this café well worth a visit. Drawn by its charming atmosphere, we decided to stop by for coffee and dessert. Both were beautifully presented and exceptionally tasty. The coffee was excellent, and it’s worth noting that the café offers various milk alternatives for those who are lactose intolerant, as well as gluten-free options on the menu. The only drawback is the rather high prices, further increased by a 12% service charge — although this is quite standard in Budapest. Nevertheless, for the combination of delightful flavors and refined ambiance, this place is highly recommended.
Michalina — Google review
We had a blueberry and coconut dessert — a flavor unlike anything we’re used to. Macaron also very good. The atmosphere is beyond everything; it’s a moment that truly must be experienced here.
Gulsah M — Google review
Wonderful historic place that serves the best traditional cakes you can find in the city. We got a seating without reservation and felt welcomed. The staff is kind and helpfull with explaning every cake on the menu. It is hard to say which one is the best, we ordered half of the menu. But the one that stands out is the Pistacchio one. Definitely worth the experience! 🍰♥️
Cristian T — Google review
The world famous Gerbeaud cafe lacks world class service unfortunately. They seat gests at the door having enough free tables further inside. You sit in the draught in winter due to the flood of incoming guests and constatly open door. At least they could install an isolation curtain in the entrance. When you get in, there is no garderobe and no hangers for coats so the whole cafe looks like a messy garderobe and if you are in four you have to sit on your own coats. Then you go to toilette where the hygiene is not up to standards of the prices of the cafehouse. When you order breakfast in two, they bring it separately with 8mins difference, so one has finished before the other one started. The thin ham and eggs does not come on pre heated plate, by the time you get to second egg its cold and by third even colder. After the breakfast it takes another 8mins to waiters to notice that you would like to order a dessert. For the service an automatic 15% service charge is included in the bill and the waiter patiently waits for a tip on top. Its a nice cafe at prime location, but the management should pay more attention to customer experience.

Centrál Grand Cafe & Bar is a stunning Art Nouveau cafe with a spacious interior featuring marble tables and a charming balcony. It offers an array of coffee, cakes, and traditional Hungarian dishes for lunch and dinner, as well as delightful breakfast options. The cafe holds historical significance as one of the oldest coffeehouses in Budapest, attracting renowned literary figures in the early 20th century.
We very much enjoyed our Sunday brunch experience at the Centrál Grand Cafe. The food choices were incredible. All four of us ordered different things and were extremely happy with our selections. The entrees were very well prepared and presented beautifully. Desserts were exquisite! When I took the first bite of my pistachio raspberry torte I declared it “heaven on a plate”. The atmosphere was greatly enhanced by live music provided by a talented cellist and pianist. Laci, our server, was so friendly, offered suggestions, made sure we were happy and was one of the best waiters we experienced in Budapest. While the New York Cafe has a lavish atmosphere, I preferred the Centrál Grand Cafe: food, choices of drinks, service, music, wait time, noise level, space for tables, and prices were all significantly better.
Nicole T — Google review
We love the atmosphere here in Central. Wonderful performance of piano & cello. Good service from an old gentleman with glasses ( sorry I didn’t remember his name). Outstanding food service. As someone who doesn’t like sweet food, the « Éclaire with Chestnut » surprised me. Ah, don’t forget all the food/drink with “Central” in its name. Strongly recommend them! This café is on my list of places I will return to.

Great place to visit when in Budapest. For us the best cafe and restaurant in town. Great food and perfect service. The cafe is a traditional Hungarian place highly beautifully decorated. The cafe is in the middle of tourist trap restaurants but central cafe is really highly recommend. Great food and service for very good price. No hidden service charges as other tourist traps

Atmosphere was beautiful and peaceful! Mark was a great server and was patient while I looked at the menu. Lots of delicious looking options! I got the eggs Benedict - a little more hollandaise would be good and it was room temperature. Overall the food was still delicious as well as the white hot chocolate!
Mailani O — Google review
I’ve visited this restaurant several times, and it’s definitely one of my top favorite places to go every time I’m in Budapest. The restaurant is located inside a historic building and is beautifully decorated; you can truly feel its authentic and unique historic vibe. It’s very enjoyable to sit inside and soak in the atmosphere! Sometimes they even have live piano music, which adds an extra charm to the experience. The restaurant is always perfectly clean, and all the furniture is in great condition. There’s also a small outdoor area with a few tables – lovely to sit at when the Budapest weather is nice. Every time I’ve visited, it’s been quite busy (whether for lunch or dinner). In summer, it can be hard to get a table outside, but I always managed to get one inside right away (either for myself or with a friend). The staff here are always nice and quick. Everyone who served me spoke good English, making communication easy. The restaurant’s menu also includes English translations and even pictures of some dishes, which makes choosing easier. The menu is quite diverse – it includes traditional Hungarian dishes as well as international options, from Shakshuka for breakfast to big American burger. I personally tried only Hungarian dishes here – Chicken Paprikash, Goulash Soup, and Classic Esterhazi Cake – and I loved every single one! The food always arrived quickly and was freshly prepared. Every main dish even smelled amazing. They definitely know how to cook Goulash Soup – it’s full of flavor, and the beef is always perfectly cooked with almost no fat. The Chicken Paprikash was also delicious! I especially loved the rich sauce covering the meat; the dumplings were soft and perfectly made; and the dish also comes with a tasty cucumber salad on the side. I absolutely recommend ordering the Goulash Soup or Chicken Paprikash here, especially if you’re looking for authentic Hungarian food. The portions are big, so you don’t need to order an appetizer; one main meal will fill you up. And to finish, their Esterhazi Cake is a must-try! It’s fantastic – super delicious and beautifully made. A couple of times I even came here just for that cake and a cup of tea; trust me, it’s worth it! Prices at this place are slightly on the higher side but still reasonable for the good quality and lovely overall experience you get at the restaurant. For example, one main dish, a dessert, and a soft drink (I usually order a hot black tea) cost around €20-25, which is not bad at all. The restaurant accepts all major credit cards and Apple Pay. I highly recommend visiting this place at least once – just for the experience of spending a lovely time in a classy, authentic Hungarian restaurant while enjoying delicious food. By the way, the restaurant is centrally located, making it easy to find and reach from anywhere in Budapest’s city center.

One of the most beautiful cafes i’ve been to. The service is great and the staff, especially Mark and Jonos, are very accomodating and helpful. The food is exquisite, the beef stew was exceptional. The overall ambience of the restaurant is very romantic, cozy and warm. 💯

Auguszt Cukrászda Belváros is a charming and traditional café with a cozy atmosphere, featuring classic Hungarian cakes and desserts. The family-run business has been passing down recipes through generations, offering a delightful selection of treats such as Dobos cake, retes, and Eszterhazy cake. Whether you're on the Pest or Buda side of the city, you're likely to come across one of their three locations.
I visited Auguszt Cukrászda Belváros and purchased cakes. The café itself has a charming, traditional ambiance with elegant mirrors and warm wood-backed furniture. The cake was beautifully presented, showcasing the craftsmanship that Auguszt is known for. The flavors were rich and well-balanced, making for a delightful treat. If you're looking for a cozy spot with high-quality pastries, this is a great choice!

Great cakes. Good espresso. Quiet place to sit down. What else would you need to kick off your afternoon? The down side is the FOMO for the cakes you haven't tried...

We went to this lovely cafe for breakfast today and had a truly wonderful time. This lovely lady provided us with excellent service. I've never seen better service. I highly recommend it. We also had dessert and coffee, and everything from the food to the drinks was excellent.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A true Budapest gem! Auguszt is not just a café – it’s a piece of Hungarian history served on a plate. Every bite feels like a journey through generations of craftsmanship and tradition. We tried the Dobos torte, the Krémes, and a savory quiche – all absolutely outstanding. The Dobos was rich yet perfectly balanced, the Krémes was light and heavenly, and even the salad next to the quiche was fresh and flavorful. The coffee was excellent too. The atmosphere is elegant but warm, with a real sense of family heritage. You can feel the pride and love that go into every pastry. Unlike the touristy cafés around the city, this one feels authentic, calm, and genuinely Hungarian. If you want to experience the soul of Budapest’s pastry culture – this is the place. Highly recommended!

New York Café, a Neo-Baroque establishment dating back to 1894, has a rich history as a gathering place for Hungarian writers and poets. Despite being partially destroyed during World War II and later nationalized by the communist regime, it was restored to its former glory in 2006 by the Boscolo Group. The café's opulent interior features stunning frescoes by renowned Hungarian painters from the 19th century, along with intricate marble floors and gilded decorations.
Our experience at New York Café Budapest was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment we walked in, the ambience felt absolutely extravagant; ornate, elegant, and breathtaking in every detail. It truly lives up to its reputation as one of the most beautiful cafés in the world. The service was amazing, seamless, and consistently attentive. A special mention goes to Tundi, whose friendliness and attentiveness elevated the entire experience. She made us feel genuinely welcome and went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect. Her warm personality and professionalism are a credit to the café. If you’re looking for a place where world-class ambience meets exceptional service, New York Café Budapest is unmatched. Absolutely unforgettable.

If you want to see the venue and want amazing pictures go for it. Try and come early or late to avoid the queues. It is very beautiful inside. However if you not fussed about the fuss then avoid. I think its good to see and experience once. Service was ok. We went with time and just chilled. Was overall a good experience. The live violinist was really nice. The history of the place is amazing. There were some vegan options. The hot chocolate was very filling and rich.

I went to New York Cafe in Budapest to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday, and it was honestly a terrible experience. I spoke with the waiter beforehand to bring a dessert with a candle after we finished our meal. After eating, we waited a very long time, watching other tables get cakes with candles while nothing came to ours. I went to another waiter to remind him about the dessert — he said okay, but again, nothing happened. Eventually, we asked for the bill, and guess what? The dessert was added to it even though it never arrived. I told them I wouldn’t pay for something that was never brought, and only then did a lady finally come with the dessert — with the candle already blown out — and asked my boyfriend if it was his birthday. Seriously, who does that? It completely ruined the moment. We waited forever, the food was not worth the hype, and the service was unbelievably poor. I understand it’s a busy place, but that just shows what happens when there’s no competent management. Definitely not worth even one star.
Adriana A — Google review
Not worth the money if you’re going for food or coffee at New York Café. Overpriced, with the decoration being the only thing that stands out but toilets decoration is pretty poor. We visited New York Café Budapest expecting a proper gourmet experience, and while the place itself is absolutely stunning, the food really missed the mark. To be fair, the decor is gorgeous—the chandeliers and lighting give the whole place a really special vibe, and the live piano music creates a warm, cosy atmosphere. Visually, it’s pretty incredible. But the food was a real letdown. The coffee had barely any flavour, and my partner’s coffee even came out cold, so we had to send it back. He ordered the Hungarian eggs, which were alright, but my eggs Benedict were honestly a shocker. The muffin was so dry and tough it was nearly impossible to cut—nothing like the soft, fluffy base you’d expect from a proper eggs Benny. Overall, the venue is beautiful and the ambiance is spot-on, but the food just didn’t deliver. For such a famous spot, the whole dining experience was pretty disappointing and definitely didn’t live up to the hype.

My mom & I visited the café on two different days, and both experiences were absolutely wonderful. The stunning interior and elegant atmosphere make it a must-visit in Budapest it truly feels like dining inside a palace! On our first day, Gergely, who attended to us was very professional and composed. I believe he’s one of the managers, and his presence and attention to detail made a great impression On our second day, we were warmly attended by Stefi, who was always smiling, attentive, and genuinely kind. Her positive energy made our visit extra special. The food, coffee, and desserts were excellent, but it’s really the staff. If you're lucky enough to be served by Stefi you're in for a treat! 🌟

The place is quite touristy, and even on a late weekday evening there was still a short queue. Despite its large size with at least two floors, it was packed, and the tables felt very close together. The interior is undeniably beautiful, though it could use better maintenance and cleanliness. As expected, the menu items are on the pricey side. I’m not complaining since we’re tourists ourselves, but it’s probably not the best choice if you’re after a relaxed atmosphere.

Stunning Setting with Room for Service Improvement New York Café is one of the most beautiful cafés in the world, with a breathtaking interior that feels like stepping into a palace. The location is excellent, right in the heart of Budapest, and it’s absolutely worth visiting for the atmosphere alone. The food is good, though not exceptional, and the service could be better. The staff seem quite used to the constant flow of tourists, so the experience can feel a bit rushed or impersonal at times. Still, it’s a must-see spot for its incredible architecture and history. If you go, take your time to enjoy the surroundings, it’s an unforgettable place to have coffee or dessert, even if the service isn’t as polished as the setting.

Initially we were allocated in this annex room down the bottom. It was very disappointing as you can’t even hear the music. My review would have been 1 star. Luckily I decided to speak to the manager and we were kindly moved to the upper room where the experience met the expectation and I had the most amazing blueberry cheesecake coup hearing the music and seeing the musicians. The experience downstairs was terrible. Forgotten with the underdogs. It’s impossible to have a great experience there as you will be saddened by the prices in a regular room. In my opinion that room should not be used unless they put a musician playing down there. Even the food felt average whilst we sat there. Life was different on the upper floor and I strongly reccomend you to complain about your seat in case you are taken to the dark room far from the magic. We had an amazing experience and it was worth every cent once sat on the upper level. I would definetely return.

Molnár's kürtőskalács, also known as chimney cakes, have a rich history dating back to Hungarian settlers in Transylvania. These cylindrical pastries are a beloved traditional treat often associated with celebrations and special occasions. Today, they can be found throughout Budapest, with vendors showcasing the baking process on the streets.
Chimney Cake (Kürtőskalács) [4.5/5] 🍞 Food Super addictive—I couldn’t stop tearing off strip after strip. The thin, glossy crust isn’t too sweet and gives way to a soft, slightly chewy, airy inside. You get a light sweetness from the crust and a gentle yeasty note from the center. Tip: enjoy half while it’s fresh from the oven, then have the other half after it’s rested for a few hours or overnight—you’ll get two different experiences. ➕ Toppings Tried almond, walnut, and cinnamon. None were overpowering; they added a nice small boost to the flavor. 👀 Experience Fun to watch it being made in the open kitchen. ✅ Verdict Strongly recommended!

Nice place to sit and relax while enjoying the best chimney cake in Budapest. Each empty chimney cake cost 2.2K Forint. They're good enough to eat as it is, no need the filling of ice cream or other stuff. The cafe has comfy seats and also clean toilet which my kid happily used for big biz.

Best chimney cake in Budapest!! Great prices. Hot fresh and crispy chimney cakes. Quick service. Plenty of clean seating. Free toilets. Have come back here many times and quality is consistent.

Very nice place where to sit and taste a delicious chimney in Budapest! We tryed the pistacchio chimney and it was so delicious! We really liked seeing the preparation of chimneys happening in front of us and here the product are 100% fresh. The chimney was big compared to others and the price was very good. We really like it!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ If you’re in Budapest and want to try a truly authentic kürtőskalács, Molnár’s Kürtőskalács is unbeatable. This was by far the best one I’ve had in the city, the dough is soft, warm, and perfectly caramelized on the outside. What really sets it apart, though, is the ice cream. Unlike the artificial, low-quality ice cream you often find at other spots, this one is creamy, rich, and absolutely delicious. The combination with the kürtőskalács is heavenly and makes it a must-visit for anyone with a sweet tooth. Definitely a highlight of my Budapest trip!
Sabrina V — Google review
Went there twice to get my chimney cake fix. Each time the chimney cakes were hot and fresh and rolled with the topping we want. It’s best cooled down but it was nice to have a freshly baked one.
Tiffany C — Google review
While strolling around the city, we noticed lots of people holding these big, delicious looking ice cream cones and decided to give it a try. It was our first time eating it, and we didn’t really know what to expect, but it was amazing! The vanilla ice cream was creamy and milky, really smooth and tasty. But the real star was the chimney cake cone itself. Soft, slightly sweet, and warm, eating it on its own is already a treat, and with the ice cream, it’s next level delicious. If you’re in Belgium, don’t miss trying this, it’s fun to eat and absolutely worth it!
Azura K — Google review
The pistachio chimney cake was 10/10. It was hot and warm when they served it. The almond chimney cake was tasty but the pistachio chimney cake with pistachio cream was the best for me. 10/10 warm and resently out of the oven.

Szamos Gourmet Ház is a renowned family-owned pastry shop with multiple locations in Budapest, including one at Vorosmarty ter. Situated in the heart of downtown within an elegant, high-ceilinged space that was once a bank, it's the perfect place to take a break from sightseeing and indulge in coffee and sweets. The café offers an inviting ambiance and a wide selection of divine cakes, ranging from classic to unique flavors.
I visited on 18 January 2025. Friend brought me here since Szamos is a Budapest classic (?) I ordered the Szamos Coffee which is espresso and hot vanilla milk. Now I don’t what I was expecting, but what I got was *very* interesting. The texture was playful in my mouth and taste is delicious. We also ordered the Dobos cake since it seems like a classic. Delicious — not too sweet and just nice. The caramel sheets works well. My friend ordered an infused tea of some sort. That was delicious as well without sugar. Service was good, atmosphere was fantastic. Would come back.

Szamos is a classic when in Budapest. I had a sandwich and a lovely slice of Esterhazy cake in the outdoor seating area. The staff were friendly and attentive. It’s not in the immediate hubbub, so it’s a nice break from the chaos of the city, but it’s still very conveniently located.
Em M — Google review
The place is very nice, but the music choice doesn't fit the atmosphere, and the light fixtures need to be fixed (color and light intensity is not uniform). These two issues, if fixed, would enhance the overall feeling of the cafe.

Just perfect! I love stylish and traditional places. Welcoming atmosphere and friendly service! Live traditional music and dances! The food was deli! Ps. Kids had 2 glasses of home lemonade and charged us 6x100ml

I ordered dobos and fruity cheese. The caramel shell on the dobos is so thick. The cheese layer of the cheesecake is really light, and the shape is not good. It is also wrapped in plastic paper when serving.

⭐ 4/5 – A Sweet Slice of Hungarian History We visited Szamos Gourmet Ház with one goal: to try the famous Dobos cake—and it was absolutely divine. This iconic layered pastry was invented by Hungarian chef József C. Dobos in the late 1800s. Not only is it a clever piece of culinary history, but it’s also incredibly delicious. The layers were rich, moist, and flavorful, and that caramel layer on top added the perfect crunch and sweetness. We also tried another traditional Hungarian treat—a two-piece biscuit filled with jam, with a little hole in the top cookie. It was simple, crunchy, and absolutely delicious. To drink, I had a raspberry lemonade, which was refreshing and nicely balanced—not too sweet, not too tart. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and although the prices were slightly higher, we felt the experience, quality, and location fully justified it. The café itself has a charming, historical atmosphere, and it’s a wonderful stop if you're exploring Budapest and want to taste Hungary’s classic desserts done right.
Alexandra B — Google review
The dobos cake was really very good as was the coffee. Quality ingredients, the caramel top is difficult to cut or get into, but taking it off and eating it separately along works. The atmosphere is fantastic, old school, rich and tastefully done. They have a decent collection of chocolates to gift or take away. There was a 15 percent service charge. Would recommend

Cafe
Confectionery store
Művész Coffee House, also known as Artist Cafe, is a historic cafe established in 1898 located on Andrassy avenue. The cafe features high ceilings, huge mirrors, and chandeliers creating a bohemian atmosphere. It offers an outdoor terrace for people-watching and interior rooms adorned with ornate decorations and portraits of famous Hungarian cultural figures. The building's Neo-Renaissance facade adds to its charm.
In my opinion, when it comes to the design and atmosphere, there’s really no need for praise it’s a classic old design from 1898 that will definitely catch your eye. What mattered more to me, though, is that cafés with such a historic style, especially those popular with tourists, often don’t pay much attention to the quality of their pastries and drinks. Many times, tourists are so charmed by the beautiful setting that they don’t really focus on the quality Which, of course, is not a flaw it all depends on personal preference.. However, contrary to that expectation, the pastry and hot chocolate I ordered were truly good. The pistachio pastry was crisp with just the right amount of sweetness, and the hot chocolate was served at the right temperature with a well balanced chocolate flavor. The service was also fast and attentive.

Excellent eggs with bacon, nice cappuccino, friendly service. I liked sitting outside but inside is pretty and without the traffic noise. We've had breakfast there several times. The tables outside are a little small, fine for one person, but tiny for two.

This patisserie is an absolute delight! Established in 1898, its rich history is beautifully reflected in the elegant and classic interior design — truly a place that transports you back in time while offering modern comfort. The coffee is outstanding — rich, aromatic, and served just right. But the real stars are their artisan pastries and baked goods. Each piece is crafted with clear attention to detail, flavor, and presentation. From delicate cakes to buttery croissants, everything is simply delicious and of the highest quality. A must-visit for anyone who appreciates fine patisserie in a charming, historic setting.

I felt like royalty in there. Such nice cakes, amazing amount of choices of drinks, not too much food but we are here for the CAKES. Amazing atmosphere, not too crowded but could get in the right time I can imagine. Nice staff, and the CAKES. So fresh and so good! And how they show you on the screen how some of them are made is just a little something I didn’t know I needed in a cafe. Amazing!
Ronja ( — Google review
As the café’s name suggests, they still have portraits of artists hanging on the walls. The interior is beautiful and they offer a wide selection of cakes that aren’t listed on the menu. Instead, you have to browse the spinning cake shelves and pick what you want, which makes for a fun little experience. The coffee tastes decent, nothing extraordinary, but good. The waitresses are helpful but aren’t the friendliest, but I get it, working in a fancy place probably makes them a little unapproachable.
Megan W — Google review
The place is nice even they could mantain the old style in a better way ( big screen in the main salon..) and the service a bit slow, it took 20 min before coming for the order. The cakes are good but not excelent.
Silvia — Google review
We went there for breakfast, ordered english breakfast, very tasty food, quiet nice place, but the big problem are very small tables. If 2 persons order breakfast you will need to put half of the things, plates, glases on the chairs since tables are very small for eating. If you choose only drinks up to 4 persons could sit with comfort.

A very honest review: I visited this cafe a couple days ago with some of my friends from Italy. As hungarian I wanted to show them the beauty of Budapest. Based on the quite good rating of the cafe I had the impression this would be something to amaze them, something that can also reflect Hungarian tradition. After walking in and sitting down we got the menus, as I was explaining the different foods to my friends one waitress came up, I told her in hungarian in a very polite and kind way that we still need some time. After noticing that there are also cakes next to the entrance, I went there to see, which ones we could order. In the mean time another waitress went to our table, where my italian friends told them in English we still needs some time. This probably all within the first 5 minutes. While walking back to our table I hear one of the waitresses say in hungarian, this table we will not go to anymore, because they don’t know what they want. I was not sure, if she meant us, but then I later realised she was talking about our table, number 17. After that, she kept having a negative attitude towards us, like we were not welcome, also when I kindly told her we would like to order, she rudely said „mindjárt“, which means something like „in a second“. I stayed completely calm and was kind and respectful throughout our whole stay, trying not mirror the attitude from the waitress. Honestly after having this experience, I would not recommend going there, for me it ruined the whole experience. This one waitress was rude for no reason, while the whole cafe was maybe half full, if not even less, implying that they did not have much to do. I don’t recommend tourists going there, they don’t seem to have patience, there is plenty other and better cafes with better service. I will also not return after this encounter. As a hungarian myself I am quite upset that this is the kind of service offered by such a cafe in Budapest. The food and cakes were good, but I would not say it was something incredibly special.

Every cake tells another story. They are not too sweet so you can actually taste and enjoy each flavor. Interior is specious and clean with big windows. It is a very nice touch that the kitchen is divided from the bar with one big window so you can see where all magic happens. Definitely worth the visit.

Nice place, it wasn't too busy around 5 PM on a weekday. Not cheap, but not tourist trap expensive and the cakes we had were pretty good. The raspberry musical (málnás musical) is delicious!

🇺🇸A really tidy well decorated place near to Gozsdu where you have the opportunity to catch up with a friend or it’s perfect for a date. I visited between the holidays so they still had the Christmas decorations everywhere. When you enter you have to order first then choose a cozy spot. The couch is comfortable and the bathroom is clean. And the most important details…the cakes are delicious 🤤 and not just incredible creatively presented. Overall a great experience. So don’t missed while you’re visiting Budapest.

Coffee and macaroons are good enough. Cakes look cute but I didn't taste them. I had to wait a long to order. The people behind me in line just left. One barista, of course, is not enough. The interior is cool, especially in Helloween time 👻
M K — Google review
The place is really cute and cozy, I'd love it even more in winter, it gives worm vibes. We went there to have brunch basically, and tasted a few of their patisserie selection. The macaroons were delicious, the rest of the sweets were nice. I was expecting a bit more, but they were a bit too sweet or not as flavorful as I thought. Nothing mind blowing. The Caramel dessert was too sweet, a bit too much for my tasting. The service was nice and kind. Overall desserts were okay but not the best, but still worth it I think. My favorites were the macaroons, very very tasty, and the dessert resembling a pie with the red thing on it and the pistacchio (it doesn't taste of pistacchio at all), it was the mist surprising and flavorful!

The place is really big, and the seats are comfortable with beautiful decorations. The workers are nice and helpful. Their desserts are delicious with beautiful designed. The coffee was also quite good with good amount and fair price. There has many different desserts I hope that I will be able to try all of them soon. A good dessert coffee place to visit when you are in Budapest.

Artizan Bakery is a top craft bakery in Budapest, known for its expertise in sourdough bread and morning pastries. Located on Hold Street, this cozy cafe offers a variety of freshly baked long-fermented sourdough bread and homemade pastries. The bakery prides itself on using only locally sourced high-quality ingredients without any additives, flour improvers, or preservatives.
If a place has a queue of locals all day, it can only be outstanding! One of the best bakeries I’ve ever been to. It’s like Willy Wonka himself baked the treats on offer. It’s difficult to choose what to eat when everything looks so delicious. The pistachio and raspberry pastry wheel was incredible. Great coffee too. If you’re in Budapest and looking for coffee, pastry, breakfast, or any of the above, I can’t recommend Artizán enough!

We came because it had a high rating. There was a line at the door and the outdoor tables were full. We ordered one cinnamon roll, one chocolate roll, and two cappuccinos. We sat upstairs. The rolls didn’t taste that good. The place is cute, but what we had wasn’t worth the price. I think it’s an overrated spot.

A Wonderful discovery in a fairly quiet side street. All products are wonderful to look at and super tasty! Charming bakery right by the Ministry of Sports. Expect a line, but it moves quickly. Warm, hard-working staff keep things humming. Pastries are stellar. Don’t miss the croissants, baguettes, and the tangy sourdough bread. Worth the wait and a repeat visit. Coffee’s solid, too. Prices are fair.

Artizan Bakery is an absolute gem in Budapest. Everything we tried was so tasty, fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Their pastries are light, flaky, and packed with flavor, and the sourdough bread is exceptional. You can tell they use high-quality ingredients and traditional techniques, which makes a huge difference. The atmosphere is cozy and stylish, perfect for breakfast or a quick coffee break. Staff were friendly and efficient, even though the place was busy. Prices are reasonable for the quality, and the coffee pairs perfectly with their pastries. Tip: Go early for the best selection, items sell out fast. Try their almond croissant or pistachio pastries, they’re incredible. Expect a short wait during peak hours, but it’s worth it. Would I recommend it? Absolutely. Artizan is a must-visit for anyone who loves great bread and pastries in Budapest.

Guys… They DO NOT have vegan stuff! Yesterday I bought some pastries, asking specifically for vegan to an employee. I arrived home and ate it and it was absolutely NOT vegan. But just to check before writing something, I went back again today and asked if they have vegan stuff. Today they said they don’t.!!! I wonder why I got mislead like that yesterday. I am lactose intolerant!!! If you are just looking for genuine buttery bakery, this is the place to go! For that they deserve 5 stars. I just wish they would have had honesty on the first day. Update: what has been marketed to ma as vegan was the salty pastry, with feta… Thanks a lot 👌 Pls educate your employees

They’re the true bread superstars. Everything from the bakery is a hit, and the coffee is excellent. But what really stands out are their weekday lunch specials — incredibly tasty, healthy, and hearty. *Chef’s kiss!* Just make sure to come early if you want a seat.

Artizan Bakery is a must-visit in Budapest! Their award-winning breads truly live up to the hype — fresh, flavorful, and delicious every time. I’ve been to Budapest twice, and both times I started my day with breakfast at Artizan Cafe. There was a long queue, but it moved quickly as customers were served fast, so the wait was definitely worth it. Just keep in mind to go early in the morning — after 9 AM, vegetarian options become limited. As a vegetarian, I’m especially impressed with the quality and variety of vegetarian choices. The staff are friendly and provide excellent service, making the whole experience even better. The ambience is cozy and inviting, and the prices are very reasonable for such high quality. If you’re in Budapest and love great bread and tasty vegetarian food, this place is a top pick. Highly, highly recommended! 🥖✨

Nestled just a short stroll from the bustling Great Market Hall, Butter Brothers Bakery & Bistro is a delightful gem that has been captivating taste buds since its inception in 2012. This charming bakery, run by an enthusiastic and innovative team, specializes in crafting rich and flaky pastries with an impressive array of fillings that change almost daily based on seasonal ingredients. Their cocoa swirls are particularly popular among patrons, showcasing their commitment to quality as they source dairy products from a local free-range family farm.
Hands down best bakery/coffee shop in Budapest!! I’ve come 5 days straight to try every baked good on the menu. Top favorites are cottage cheese croissant, blueberry Camembert croissant, and the körözöttes focaccia sandwich! Hope all of these will encourage you as they encouraged me!

I used to live close to this bakery and it was my favourite place. Unfortunately, now it is too far to visit that often. This week I came there twice because on the day I came first time they didn't have any kakaos csiga (my fav) so I took turos taska and I was a bit disappointed... the dough wasn't creating layers and wasnt crispy at all. It tasted like regular turos taska from lidl ;) i couldn't believe that the quality dropped that much. I came back again yesterday and I was positively suprised that the pastries were crispy and fresh as I remembered. Because of that situation I'm taking one star as that good bakery should try to keep same standard all the time. Regardless I recommend to visit this place! Most of pastries is 1000 huf per piece.

Great place to have a coffee and sth like a croissant and roll. The place is small and they don’t have many seats available so you might not fight a place to sit at busy times. The coffee tastes good, the walnut roll was good to enjoy. Good place. Recommended.

This delightful family-run business, operated by Vitez Kurtos, hails from Szekely Land—the birthplace of chimney cake.

I recently tried the chimney cake from the cafe, and it was a delightful experience! Freshly made in just 10 minutes, each flavor was a treat. I sampled the pistachio, chocolate, and apricot, and all were incredibly delicious—rich and satisfying. The variety offered is impressive, making it hard to choose just one. The price is reasonable for such a quality dessert, but I did find the paper costing nearly 600 HUF a bit unfriendly. Overall, though, the chimney cake is definitely worth trying for anyone with a sweet tooth! Highly recommended!

Definitely a must try even if you are not a fan of Kürtőskalács, they have a remarkable amount of varieties so you can taste them the way you like the most, price is not cheap, however considering the product and the results it is worthy, specially if you consider you can easily pay the same amount for average or disappointing ones on the city center.

Rigó Jancsi Cake Shop is a charming bakery known for its delectable Rigo Jancsi cake, named after the Romani violinist who famously eloped with a Belgian princess. This delightful treat features soft chocolate sponge, sweet apricot jam, and velvety chocolate mousse. The shop offers a range of Hungarian baked goods, ice cream, and cakes. While the interior is cozy, there's also an outdoor seating area to enjoy your treats.
Real Retro experience with the look and feel of 70s Budapest. Delicious traditional bakery with yummy coffee.

Aug 2024: District 12 Budapest; they no longer frost the sides of the cake, just the top. :-( Puncs torta a bit dry. Apple squares were agglutinated with no apple slices or chunks within. There is a small outdoor courtyard to the right. Skip it.

Lots of good stuff....😊 Hungarian bakeries too, ice cream, cakes....you can sit inside but it is a little bit small but they have an outside sitting area. I am always going there if I want a good and yummy dessert.

Delicious cakes and nice selection. The prices are decent as well. They have ice cream in summer and you can have coffee there as well. They unfortunately do not speak English but I usually manage to buy what I want. And they recently started accepting card payment. I am a regular customer 😊

The best things about this place is the retro atmosphere, including the cakes, the interior, etc, almost like it was taken from a memory. The cakes are no award winners but overall delicious, and the prices reflect this. We love to visit there for some desserts on any simple workday, it just makes the whole day sweeter.

NOR"MA is a Nordic-style bakery that is a high-end artisan bakery located in Budapest, offering a wide range of contemporary global favorites such as cardamom buns, filled croissants, and sourdough breads. The bakery's name is a fusion of 'Nordic' and 'Magyar,' reflecting the inspiration drawn from the owners' time in Copenhagen.
Guys please enjoy a good and easy sweet/salty breakfast at this bakery. We been there for 3 mornings straight and we tried almost all the sweet croissant. They were all really tasty (even the empty one). The salty pastries were looking good too (see attached picture). Furthemore,I suggest to try the plain home made focaccia as well. Good quality coffee as well!
Flaminia F — Google review
We had a vegetarian sandwich and this sweet croissant, they were both very tasty and refreshing. For us as tourists I came across a bit of chaos in ordering and what everything is on the menu. On the other hand, the barista kindly helped us.
Anna B — Google review
I tried the Norma plate for breakfast and was unfortunately quite disappointed. The bread and pickled veggies were the only delicious parts. The garlic and burned butter were extremely bland and definitely took away from the overall experience. The coffee is solid and the pastries are good, but I’m sure you can find a better breakfast/brunch experience elsewhere in the city.

Just happened to stumble upon this bakery, which smelled heavenly. I decided on a kardamom pastry. It was good and flavorful but looking back kardamom is a very acquired taste, so I wish I had gotten something else. But it was good. 950 ft

A Nordic styled cafe with not a big selection of pastries. The ones I tried were, not a wow, but quite good. Staffs were friendly and helpful. I loved the seating outside.
Thi V — Google review
I am on the quest for the perfect croissant.. Talán inkább ne északi stílusú pékség... Translate this bakery is emulating or attempting to emulate an "eastern style of baking"... To me there was no layering of the dough, laminated, maybe they went to far easterly. Croissants started in Hungary...maintain the integrity of the chefs when Község stood their ground.

One of those modern/new coffee places/houses in Budapest. Architecture and interior decoration is really pleasant. It’s spacious with a very pleasant set up. Tables inside with A/C when it’s hot and few tables outside. Good choice of breads, pastries and sandwiches. Many types of coffees and the ones I took were very tasty. The staff is very pleasant , patient and helpful, especially when one is limited in Hungarian.

Cute little cafe with a selection of baked goodies. I had the pistachio crossiant which was not overly sweet, with a generous amount of pistachio cream. However, the prices are a bit on the expensive side.

Kurtoskalacs, also known as chimney cakes, is a popular Hungarian pastry that can be found in bakeries and markets across the country. These cone-shaped cakes are rolled in cinnamon sugar and often served warm, with the option of being filled with ice cream. There are various flavors to choose from, such as cinnamon and walnut. The price is reasonable compared to touristy spots, and the service is quick.
Really the best chimney cake I’ve ever had, my Hungarian boyfriend ordered it for us, judging by the reviews it probably helped.. we got a fresh steaming one 😆

The cinnamon was 800ft, not bad, but maybe we got it late, so the bread was cold.

The shop is underground at station Astoria and easy to find. The price is very good and the warm chimney cakes are delicious. Plus, it smells like heaven when taken out of the oven. Cinnamon and walnuts ones are my favorite and it’s a must try when in Budapest.

Thank you that you make the Station Astoria with your Kurtoskalacs smell like heaven! I always likes to go up with the escalator from the subway. Big thanks from my nose!👃🏻

The best chimney cake in the whole of Budapest! This a great spot if you don't want to get ripped off and try chimney cake at like a local. In Jan 2023 we got a cake for only 700 ft and they have a lot of flavors to choose from. Very friendly staff except for when you try to take a picture, which I really didn't get.
Matteo T — Google review
This is a very frustrating situation, and the way they handled it is clearly problematic. If a place sells chimney cakes, it’s a basic expectation that they serve them properly made and warm. What’s even more outrageous is that when it turned out they didn’t even have a way to bake them, they didn’t offer any solution but simply stated that there would be no refund. From a consumer perspective, this is unfair, and at the very least, some form of compensation should have been offered—whether a replacement with another product or at least an apology.

The Central Market Hall in Budapest is a restored neogothic hall that offers a diverse shopping and dining experience. The ground floor features grocery produce, including Hungarian paprika, fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese, meat, pastries, wine, chocolate, and jams. On the first floor, visitors can find souvenirs and various food stands offering a wide range of culinary delights. This three-story market is an ideal place to shop for local goods while enjoying lunch and picking up souvenirs.
The building was designed and built by Samu Pecz in 1897. The market offers a wide variety of stalls on three floors. The entrance gate has a neo-Gothic touch. A special architectural feature is the roof, which was renovated with colorful Zsolnay tiles from Pécs. The building is 10,000 square meters in size and is covered with a steel structure. During the Second World War, the market was heavily damaged. It was not until 1991 that a thorough renovation was undertaken, which restored it to its original splendor. The building was reopened in 1997, and in 1999 it was awarded the FIABCI Prix d'Excellence. The Central Market is still one of the city's most popular tourist attractions. Most of the stalls on the ground floor offer produce, meat, pastries, sweets, spices and spirits. You can find paprika spice, Tokaj wine, Túró Rudi, kolbász sausages and salamis there. On the second mezzanine floor there are restaurants and stalls selling tourist souvenirs. In the basement there are fishmongers, stalls with selected vegetables and a few specialized butchers.
Erik V — Google review
It is a pleasant location to explore and capture memorable photographs. The scenery offers ample opportunities for creative compositions and stunning visuals. Although the surroundings are beautiful, the dining experience could be improved. Hopefully, future visits will bring enhancements to the culinary offerings. Overall, it remains a lovely place to visit.
Jey A — Google review
It is the largest indoor market in Budapest, located at one end of the famous Váci utca. It is located in a building whose facade is built in a neo-Gothic style, very pleasing to the eye and in harmony with the architecture of the neighboring buildings. Inside, on the ground floor you will find many shops with local cold cuts, dairy, wines and other products. In the basement is the fish market. You can reach the upper level by several stairs but also by an escalator, located in close proximity of the main entrance. Access to the shops on the first floor is along corridors that look like balconies. Here are numerous gift/souvenir shops but also the Fakánal Etterem restaurant, which, if you want to taste the flavors of traditional Hungarian food, you must definitely make a stop. We did and we did not regret it. At lunchtime, when we arrived, we had to be a little patient to get to the desired menu, but it was worth it. I treated myself with a goulash soup and a portion of stuffed cabbage rolls. Everything was very tasty. I consider this place to be recommended to visit.
Cri B — Google review
It’s a nice market full of both dry goods and groceries. A lot of fresh meat products and vegetables could be found here and with good quality. On the second floor, there’s a selection of souvenirs, as well as some food stalls selling local food.
Minnie L — Google review
The Central Market Hall in Budapest is a wonderful place to explore if you want to experience local Hungarian culture in one spot. The market is housed inside a beautiful, well-organised historic building that feels lively but not chaotic. Everything is neatly arranged, and it’s easy to navigate through the different sections. You can find plenty of authentic Hungarian products here — from fresh local vegetables and spices to handmade crafts and souvenirs. There are also food stalls offering traditional dishes, so you can enjoy a snack or meal right inside the market while soaking in the atmosphere. The vendors are friendly and take pride in their products, making the experience feel genuine rather than touristy. There’s a good mix of local shoppers and visitors, which adds to its charm. The market also has clean, paid toilet facilities, which is convenient if you plan to spend more time browsing. Whether you’re looking for paprika, embroidered linens, or just a good place to people-watch, the Central Market Hall offers it all. It’s an enjoyable and colourful stop that captures the real spirit of Budapest in a single building.
AKASH U — Google review
Lots of fresh food of all varieties, including meat, vegetables and baked goods. Paprika of every flavor and size. Goodies to eat and souvenirs for the trip home. It can be very crowded so have some patience. Many of the vendors are closed on Sunday, especially the fresh food vendors.
Tom F — Google review
We went around 2-3pm, when a lot of stalls had already closed. Ground floor has vegetables, meats, sausages and spices. Upper floor is filled with Souvenir-Style shopping, and a few options for food. Choice was ok, avoid if you'd prefer a more local experience.

Gundel Cafe Patisserie Restaurant, located in City Park, has a rich history dating back to 1894. Under the ownership of Karoly Gundel since 1910, it has become an internationally renowned venue for Hungarian and French gastronomy. The restaurant is famous for its classic dishes as well as its own unique recipes such as Paloc soup, Somlo-style sponge cake, and the iconic Gundel crepe.
Every visit to Budapest feels incomplete without a stop at Gundel. The restaurant has preserved its timeless elegance, allowing guests to step back into the refined atmosphere of the early 20th century. The cuisine is exquisite — each dish prepared with care and rich in flavor — and the service is consistently attentive and professional. Prices are very reasonable for the quality offered. Dining here is not only a culinary delight but also a journey into history.

Lovely place to have a beautiful dinner. Perfectly situated for a walk to zoo, park area or hero’s square. The traditional but upscale cuisine was very delicious. I’ve decided the Hungarian’s are the best soup makers. It was a nice meal with some service hiccups. The waiter did not have the best grasp of the English language and that was fine, but our glasses of libations were left empty for a while before refilling and our empty serving plates were slow to be taken. A couple of waiters noticing were quick to remedy the young waiter and waitress errors. Live music was divine. Definitely a good choice.

Oh my - I’m always cautious of places like these on the basis that they are simply trading on their name after all this time but I couldn’t not have been more wrong! The food was superb but what absolutely made our evening was how expertly Béla guided us through the wine menu and recommended us a bespoke Hungarian wine flight that both matched our preferred wines and our courses. This guy needs to move towards becoming a sommelier as his knowledge was superb. Thanks for a wonderful last evening in Budapest!
Kaye M — Google review
I visited Gundel with my mother during our trip to Budapest, as I wanted to treat her to a special dinner. The restaurant’s strong reviews, elegant atmosphere, and reputation for great food made it an easy choice and it certainly lived up to expectations. From the moment we arrived, the service was outstanding. We were warmly welcomed and guided to our table, and throughout the evening the staff were attentive, friendly, and helpful with recommendations whenever we were unsure. The restaurant itself is beautiful and classy, creating the perfect setting for a memorable evening. I started with an Espresso Martini served in a cappuccino-style cup—a creative and delightful touch. For dinner, we chose the meal + starter/soup option. The staff kindly went above and beyond by serving us two bowls of soup rather than asking us to share one, which was a small but very thoughtful gesture. The goulash soup, in particular, was outstanding - tender meat and incredible flavor. Every dish we tried was excellent, and we truly enjoyed the whole dining experience. The only element I personally wasn’t fond of was the live band walking around the tables asking for money after playing. While some guests may enjoy it, I felt it was a bit out of place in such a refined setting. That said, our evening at Gundel was absolutely wonderful. Both the food and the service were exceptional, and I would happily return. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Budapest!

An outstanding lunch between visiting the museum. Old world elegance, the ambiance is part of the experience. Music was excellent. We ordered their multi-course meal, which was a lot of food. The food was delicious, everything well presented. Very popular, so reserve ahead.

Gundel Restaurant — Budapest’s Timeless Symphony of Hospitality and Culinary Art Stepping into Gundel is like entering a living museum of Hungarian gastronomy — one that has not merely survived more than a century, but refined the very meaning of fine dining over the course of 120 remarkable years. Once frequented by luminaries such as Madonna, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and the world’s political elite, Gundel continues to honor its legacy while offering a deeply personal, unforgettable dining experience. From the moment we were greeted, the service set the tone — gracious, intuitive, and elegantly choreographed. The staff didn’t just serve; they hosted us, with the kind of genuine warmth that’s become increasingly rare even among Michelin-starred establishments. They asked where we were from, shared insights into the history of the dishes, and seemed truly invested in making our evening exceptional. And indeed, it was. We celebrated our honeymoon, and to our astonishment, the pianist began playing the Mendelssohn Wedding March — a gesture so intimate and perfectly timed that it turned the dinner into pure magic. The food? Simply world-class. Each plate was a masterpiece of balance and tradition — succulent meats, flawlessly cooked and plated with contemporary precision, and cocktails that rival those of the finest European bars. Every bite echoed heritage and mastery, from the velvety sauces to the impeccable texture of the Hungarian specialties reinvented for the modern palate. Gundel isn’t just a restaurant — it’s a love letter to Budapest’s soul, where history, hospitality, and haute cuisine unite. Dining here feels like stepping into a story you’ll want to relive again and again.
Steve S — Google review
Gundel is a classic. You feel it the moment you walk in – the chandeliers, the music, the sense of history. Few places carry that kind of presence. The food was wonderful. The foie gras was deep and balanced, the dessert refined and rich. Everything about the kitchen feels confident and precise. The head waitress was excellent – calm, professional and genuinely attentive. But the choreography of the service wasn’t quite in sync. The rhythm slipped here and there, and in a place like Gundel that flow is part of the experience. Still, it’s an extraordinary restaurant. When it all aligns, you’re reminded why this house has become part of Budapest’s story.
Laus R — Google review
We were really happy to include Gundel as "The cherry on the cake" for our trip to Budapest and celebrating a birthday. It was an unforgettable dinner. I hope we will come again.

A hidden gem of a coffeehouse with an interesting history and tasty desserts. It is really cheap compared with the touristic cafe New York, but the quality of drinks and cakes is really high, in my opinion. Every time we came there, there were some locals in the cafe. And that is the proof enough for me. Highly recommended!

Daubner is a letdown despite the hype. The waiting line is incredibly long and chaotic, with no clear system, and the staff isn’t particularly friendly. What can I say, it's an incredible bakery with amazing and unique cakes to Hungary. The variety they had was overwhelming, you could've spent several days, and you would still not be done trying all the cakes. Everything went very fast when you were ordering, they also had a lot of different flavours of ice creams. We got Pogácsa and a few different slices of cake and the cakes were very light and super tasty and the Pogcása were the star of the show. It is a bit outside, but it was a smooth ride to get there. Make sure to go here to get some pastries and cakes while in Budapest.

Nándori Cukrászda is a beloved traditional pastry shop located in the 9th District of Budapest, offering a delightful selection of classic Hungarian cakes, tarts, savory biscuits, marzipan figurines, and ice cream. Established in 1957, this popular neighborhood joint is frequented by locals and visitors alike. The cozy café with wooden tables provides a charming setting to savor their delicious offerings.
We were here on the 31st of December, there was a long queue outside the confectionery and a lady stepped out with hot tea for those waiting in the cold. Once inside, the place became cosy and warm, we bought 7 cake varieties and I can tell you it was worth the wait. I also recommend the Hungarian pogácsa, a salty nugget, the best I've ever had! While I loved their cakes, especially the Somlói galuska and mákos-meggyes pite (I LOVE everything poppy seed that’s very hard to get in NY) I can’t get past the poor customer service. Reviews mention ill treatment of foreigners, rest assured, they treat their Hungarian speaking customers just as poorly. I ordered three slices of cake and some pogácsa, the lady serving us spectacularly rolled her eyes after plating each item. Quality is great, sweets are absolutely worth the calories but you just sort of lose your appetite when treated with such apathy.

Desserts were absolutely outstanding and tasty, and so was the coffee. However the service was very slow and we waited for over 25 minutes for our order which was not convenient. The interior or the restaurant is very beautiful though but also very loud.

I’ll start saying that the coffe and the cakes are pretty good and tasty. 1 star for the behavior of the staff when I called to order a cake to surprise my girlfriend with her favorite cake. I called Wednesday morning to prepaire a cake until Friday afternoon and the answer was negative that I should make the order one week earlier. I was so sad about it,Nevermind I asked Hungarian friend to call and she could make the order of the cake for the same day I previously asked. So my question is that you are accepting orders only from Hungarians ? We visited Nándori Cukrászda on a Saturday and ordered the krémes sós karamellás and somlói, both of which were absolutely delicious. However, there was quite a long queue, which is understandable for a popular spot on the weekend. Although tables become available relatively quickly, we noticed that no one had time to clean them in between customers. This was a significant downside, as we had to enjoy our desserts surrounded by dirty plates from previous guests. The place itself is beautiful, and the cakes are of high quality, but unfortunately, it lacks atmosphere. While the desserts are worth a visit, a bit more attention to cleanliness and ambiance would enhance the overall experience.

Everything is perfect! The atmosphere is great, warm; staff are friendly. There was a queue but it went fast. The prices are okay coffee is cheaper compared to other places in the neighborhood. There is nothing to say for desserts, delicious! I’ll definitely try each of them.

Aran Bakery in Budapest is a charming establishment founded by a Hungarian couple with a passion for travel and baking. Their global adventures have influenced the diverse range of bread and pastries available, drawing inspiration from Irish, French, American, and Hungarian culinary traditions. The bakery's signature sourdough bread, crafted with a starter named Paddy from Dublin, is a standout offering.
The best croissant of my life to date. The taste is amazing, and very fresh.. This is not a cafe, the seating is limited and the space is small, but the quality of their pastries is excellent. Highly recommended
Negin — Google review
Arán Bakery offers a wide variety of pastries, breads, cafe and sandwiches with fast service and a stylish, modern vibe. It can get very busy, especially in the mornings. While the selection is impressive, the sandwich with chicken I had came with very hard bread—tough to chew and not the most enjoyable. Great for a quick stop, but some items may be more style than comfort. Decent prices in good location, overall recommend it!
Maria A — Google review
A lovely corner bakery with all kinds of baked goods and bread and you could get. The coffee are also super delicious. Seatings are limited but if you want to grab and go, definitely a perfect spot for that. We got the iced dirty chai, flat white, a cruffin, a cinnamon bun, and orange juice. Everything was great. We ended up revisiting a couple days later.
Khattiya C — Google review
We went to Arán for breakfast and tried their famous cinnamon roll, another pastry, and a latte — all of which were really good. There’s a small seating area, and although there was a queue, it moved quite fast. A lovely spot for a quick and tasty breakfast!

Very tasty hot choc and pain au choc. I would return to try other parts of the bakery (although I'm restricted with nut allergy). Limited seating indoors so we took ours out to enjoy (there are seating spots round the side).

This is absolutely the best bakery in Budapest! The pastry is of such good quality. You must try the cruffin.

Amazing bakery, great prices and good quality! The savory pastries are delicious and the Guinness cake was a must. The Hungarian dessert was also incredible.

Another day, another tough decision on where to go for breakfast…and I’m so glad I chose this small bakery! Definitely worth the 30 minute walk, and I’d come back again. The ham and cheese croissant was gorgeous. The pastry was crispy and flaky, I loved the sesame and fennel seeds on top which added to savouriness. Also the apple and cardamom pastry, which was delicious and not too sweet. The price was really cheap too!

Pékműhely is a small family-owned bakery that has been operating since 2010. The owners are committed to producing high-quality, delicious, and healthy bread using natural ingredients and traditional knowledge passed down through generations. Visitors rave about the delectable pastries such as kakaos csiga, cinnamon rolls, bacon and honey mustard twists, and the renowned cocoa roll. The bakery also offers fresh coffee and a selection of cold drinks.

I got cinnamon roll, ajvar roll and bacon mustard twist all were great, but the CINNAMON ROLL IS OUT OF THIS WORLD. I dont think I ever ate any pastry so good, even in Copenhagen which is famous for pastries it was not as good as this one. Crispy, fluffy, sweet but not too much. Cute little bakery with friendly staff. The croissant was good, but the cappuccino wasn’t quite there. It’s not barista-brewed, so it turned out weak and barely tasted like coffee. I’d still recommend stopping by for a pastry, just maybe get your cappuccino elsewhere.

Sommer Cukrászda may not be at the top of the list for pastry shops in Budapest, but it's a beloved local spot offering a genuine old-school confectionery experience. Located slightly outside the city center, it's easily accessible by foot and boasts an extensive selection of classic Hungarian and Jewish-Hungarian pastries.
Excellent selection of amazing Hungarian cakes. No need to go to fancy cafes, sometimes hidden gems are the best. A little out of the way from the main busy areas but definitely worth it!

Rigó Jancsi torta was good. Affordable prices (1000 ft for a slice). Nice Capuccino.
Giacomo M — Google review
The customer service was poor they looked disinterested, and seemed to not care for customers reactions and their experience. The cakes were about average, they looked okay and thankfully they weren’t too sweet for my palette however upon further inspection there was a long piece of hair wedged deeply in the cake. We notified the staff however they looked unbothered and replied that since we already had some of the cake they could not replace it. This brings up concerns about the hygiene of the shop as we had already eaten other cakes.

Lovely little local bakery. Kind, welcoming and helpful staff. Tasty baked goods and super cheap. We will definitely come back here when we visit Budapest again. Thoroughly recommend the strudel
Richard C — Google review
Some of the pastries and cakes are nice, some are average. Customer service is below average, they let people pass the queue and did not even try to serve people in order. I try to avoid the place unless needed for last minute cakes.

I had hoped to stumble across a local gem, popular with its citizens and I was not disappointed! Sommer Cukrászda was a delight to find and I had kifli (with cherries and chestnuts), strawberry cake (made with cottage cheese I believe), and a lovely sorbet cone for just over 1000 forints. The flavour was fantastic in my opinion and the place was hopping with locals. Unfortunately the sorbet was so delicious, I ate it before I took a picture! I would certainly make a return visit!

Ladies and Gents! A place worth to visit when you want real life Budapest experience. A confectionary that is real with its good smells and tasty sweets that are made in the very same shop and not sourced from some industrial kitchen from far far away. If you look for something fancy.. forget it.. go to rather touristicky places, there are a lot around. If you look for something that taste and smells good, and real this is a place to go for. Chimney Cake Budapest, also known as kurtoskalacs, is a traditional Hungarian dessert that features a caramelized crust and a soft, chewy interior. The dough is wrapped around a baking spit and cooked over charcoal. This sweet treat can be found at the Chimney Cake Shop in Kiraly street, close to Deak Ferenc square. In addition to the traditional version, they offer special varieties filled with ice cream that are lactose-free.
We got addicted to this chimney cake! Absolutely no ideia why the rate is so low but we had really warm and fresh chimney cakes every time.
Beatriz C — Google review
Very very cute place with swings inside for sitting. Girl at counter knew English well. The downside is the chimney cakes were very hard even when cooked fresh. They came out steaming hot but we're hard. Payed 2000 ft which was a bit overpriced. The chimneys in the metro were 100x better.
Mirko M — Google review
Chimney Cake Budapest is a nice spot to try this popular Hungarian treat. The cakes are usually pre-made, so the freshness and warmth can vary depending on when you get them. While they might not be piping hot every time, they still make for a tasty and enjoyable snack. The location is convenient and the staff are friendly, making it an easy stop if you want something sweet while exploring the city. The cakes have a good balance of crispy outside and soft inside, though there are definitely other places in Budapest where you can find chimney cakes that feel a bit fresher or more freshly baked. Overall, it’s a decent choice if you want a quick, sweet bite, but it’s not the absolute best chimney cake experience you can find. Four stars for a solid snack that’s convenient and pleasant, but there are better spots if you’re looking for top quality.
Emanuele F — Google review
The almond chimney was ok but I think I should’ve tried the cone with ice cream version! Ah well always a next time I visit Budapest! Can pay with credit card
D. R — Google review
I walked by and was hooked. I ordered a cone with vanilla ice cream and it was warm and delicious. The next day I came on purpose because I really enjoyed it last night. There were a lot of people and I told myself that my superior was right. I waited patiently and it was my turn. I asked for exactly what I had ordered the day before. Instead, the salesman made me chocolate ice cream. When I said he was wrong, he simply threw the cake in the trash and said he wouldn't sell it to me. According to the reviews, it turns out that this is the nature of their service!
Alexander K — Google review
Super quick service and cake was nice and warm - can’t complain! We had gone further up the street for chimney cake and they had ran out, so this definitely saved the day :)

The ice cream scoops are artfully crafted to resemble roses and come in a variety of flavors, including lavender, white chocolate, lemon, and basil. Despite being touristy, the shop is well-loved for its delicious treats and often has long queues due to its popularity.

I saw pictures online of their rose-shaped ice cream and had to try it. I didn’t have high expectations for the taste, but I was pleasantly surprised—it’s really good! There was no line, and the service was fine. A nice, relaxed spot to try something different in Budapest.

Conveniently located right next to St. Stephen’s Basilica. The staff are friendly and have a unique style of serving ice cream. The selection is wide, and the flavors are really good. The place itself is quite small, so you may need to queue outside for a bit, but it’s not too bad. There’s one line for payment, where you get your ticket, and another for ordering your flavours and collecting your ice cream.

The gelato was super delicious and I had an amazing experience getting to try and taste all the flavors. The flavors were super unconventional and honestly matched the vibe of the Gelateria as each gelato itself is shaped into a rose and flower. They had a lot of natural flavors as a result, for example, we got rose, lavender, peach, and they had a ton of other options as well. Their creamed gelato flavors were also delicious and would recommend the gelateria in totality.

Nestled near the Basilica, Borkonyha Winekitchen is a sophisticated restaurant that earned its first Michelin star in 2014. It offers contemporary cuisine with a focus on Hungarian dishes and pairs them with over 200 local wines. The dining room is elegant, adorned with smart mirror-lined walls. The experience was great from beginning to end. I had reservations for 18:00 and was immediately seated. Fantastic experience through and through. This is not an uber fancy Michelin location, but it does what you need it to really well. Service friendly, fast and professional. Chef’s gifts were a delight and starters were very tasty. However the mains stole the show, with excellent meat quality and cooking craftsmanship, artfully presented. They were some of the best meals I have ever had in my life. This was excellently complimented by the fantastic wine pairings. Even as a local to area I was able to discover some new Hungarian wines that were simply sublime. If you are going here I would highly recommend the wine pairings! One of the best in Budapest!

An incredible experience. We made reservations for an evening at this Michelin Star wine kitchen. It was all about the food. The quality. The taste. The presentation. Quite phenomenal. Note that the total price I am quoting here includes the fact that my elderly in-laws don’t consume a full meal so some were shared plates. The 4 of shared: One bottle of wine 3 sparkling waters One salad One duck lever pate appetizer 3 entrees 1 dessert The meal came with: An amazing bread basket A gift plate of appetizers from the kitchen 8 dessert tasters Our bill was 94000 Ft or $400 Canadian. Great experience, incredible food and excellent value.

This was my treat for my partners birthday - we had a lovely table and a superb meal and wine flight to match. As my partner doesn’t eat sweet things they were accommodating and swapped a cheese course in instead of the dessert element of the tasting menu just for him. Good start! In all the food was superb but we found the up to 30 minute wait time between the tasting courses to be too long and by time the final course arrived we felt it had taken the shine off the evening. Additionally it was clear the sommelier was more interested in the table next to us that were splashing the cash which was a faux pas in my opinion - we chose not to stay on and sought out after dinner drinks elsewhere - it seems not all guests are even here.

Truly excellent food, wine and service! We had a three course á la carte dinner and recommended local wine, which was absolutely amazing! Perfection in every taste, in every texture. Some tiny details could be improved, like that the wine was a bit late, it should be served before the starter and main course, but that's not enough to withdraw a star, and everything else was absolutely brilliant!

I recommend the duck breast with goat's cheese and pomegranate sauce, as well as the passion fruit and pineapple lemonade (both seen in the picture attached). However, I believe you would be very satisfied with whatever you order on the menu :)

Simple Hungarian food like beef goulash is great here with decent prices. This one is an honest place - not a tourist trap. I also tried their Moroccan lamb tapas and they're very good. The atmosphere is cozy with also seating available outside.

This was our first Hungarian meal. And we enjoyed it very much Food 5/5 - everything was very good , they also have chief special . My kids have pasta and it was good too . Price 5/5- very good value indeed. Environment 5/5 - it's exactly how I would like to have a great meal . Cosy with traditional touch . I would recommend to everyone 🫶😋

A Hidden Gem in the Heart of Budapest 🌟 From the very first visit, it became our absolute favorite spot during our stay. The cozy atmosphere, warm lighting, cozy decor created the perfect feel after a day of exploring the city. The staff were incredibly kind, always smiling, happy to offer recommendations. Every dish we tried was a masterpiece. The flavors were original and perfectly balanced, the presentation was stunning, and the focus on seasonal ingredients made each meal feel fresh and thoughtful. From appetizers to desserts, everything was crafted with care and creativity. We loved it so much, we came back several times during our trip. I recommend cucumber&mint lemonade and mushroom risotto😍 💖 If you’re looking for a spot where culinary artistry meets heartfelt hospitality, this is it. I truly fell in love with this place and can’t wait to return.

We ate a Caesar Salad and a veal schnitzel. It was delicious and the portions were generous. They put a lot of effort into making the dishes and the ingredients were fresh. One of the best meals in Budapest. Please take the mashed potatoes! I highly recommend.

This grand former University theatre is situated at the geometric center of Budapest, on the eastern banks of the Danube. The restaurant offers a Christmas takeaway menu featuring a variety of dishes such as truffle forest mushroom soup, classic fish soup, curried cauliflower heads, poppy-seed bread and butter pudding, Zserbo slices, and homemade egg liqueur.
Amazing place for dinner drinks and everything else in between. Lovely staff providing superb service with delicious food. Well seasoned and tasty. Very clean space with funky additions. Very recommended. Worth visiting 👌

Went to KIOSK twice during my stay in Budapest: once for lunch and once for dinner. Very atmospheric place with amazing food. Everything was delicious: chicken paprikash, truffle fried, veal tagliatelle. My favorite was their gin tonic with olives - the best I've had so far. Spectacular service and kudos to Thomas who attended me and gave his recommendations on food. A must visit gem in Budapest!

Great feel good place with outstanding food. We ordered Hunter Style veal, Duck confit and Chicken broth and everything was delicious as we expected. The best of all for me was desert Poppy Seed Bread Pudding: on the menu for 11 years already, and it was a special experience. Thanks to a great guy Thomas who was our waiter 🥳

We went there for a late lunch. The ambiance ia very nice and cozy, all of the waiters were very friendly. Definitely a good spot hang out with friends! The food was good, but it is on the pricier range. Though I would still recommend if your around the area.

We had a wonderful experience here — the restaurant is spacious, full of natural light, and has a truly warm atmosphere. The staff were kind and attentive, and the traditional Hungarian dishes were beautifully reimagined with a modern touch. Our waiter, Ádám, did an excellent job and made the evening even more enjoyable. Highly recommended!

Very good truffle fries, crispy and well seasoned. The location is nice – modern but still cozy. Drinks are well made and taste great. All dishes are well thought out, with good balance and quality ingredients. Presentation and taste fit perfectly.

We had a lovely meal at Kiosk. Thomas was our waiter and the service was incredible! Everyone was attentive and made us feel so welcome, not to mention how delicious the food was. The truffle fries were 10/10! Definitely our favourite place we have eaten during our weekend trip to Budapest - would highly recommend.

What a gem to have stumbled on. A Variety of unique seating arrangements, both outside and inside. The interior space is decorated in such a fun whimsy, Boho kind of way. It's energetic, colorful and all about positive vibes. The music was a great compilation of different beats and was never too loud to interfere with our conversation. The food... oh the food! I had the traditional paprika chicken and it was everything and more than I was hoping it would be. I would absolutely revisit this restaurant! Bravo!!

Napfényes Restaurant and Confectionery is a popular spot in Budapest, known for its casual vegan dining experience. Situated near Erzsebet bridge, it's one of the oldest vegan restaurants in the city. The menu features a mix of local and global dishes such as pizza, falafel, goulash, and stuffed cabbage. They also offer gluten-free and raw food options to cater to various dietary preferences.
Such an amazing vegan restaurant we ate here 3 times on our Budapest trip and were impressed every time. Such good menu options including gluten free. Affordable prices, great service and such amazing food! Must visit for vegans in Budapest!

I had been here today for dinner. I'm not sure if this is intended to be a fine dining experience, but it felt like one in every way. Warm staff, quick service, delicious and satiating food and a cosy atmosphere. They have a crazy range of vegan desserts and pasteries (including Hungarian specialities) as well as a bunch of traditional hungarian stews, soups and kolozsvar — but all vegan! I ordered the Hungarian Bean Goulash Soup and a dobos tortazelet (desert), both of which are hungarian specialities. I would highly recommend to anyone who wants to have an authentic Hungarian culinary experience! The best part is that they're open even on Hungarian national holidays!
Bhairavi G — Google review
Very cute and classy-feeling restaurant. The staff were very kind but the music being shut off at 9:00 on the dot feels a bit hostile. I had the platter which was quite tasty, but the bean goulash was definitely the standout of the night! The desserts, thought plentiful in options, were lacking a bit in flavour - perhaps it was just the ones we chose. They also do not serve alcohol.

We had been to this restaurant as soon as we landed in Budapest and we had an amazing lunch here… I was very impressed for offering so many vegan options… We ordered Pad Thai and Falafel platter and it tasted delicious. So we had to return the next day to try more and we ordered their daily specials and it was yummy as well!:) The portions size is also very generous and the restaurant offers very reasonable price… Service is very polite and english friendly and the place is very clean and tidy… Highly recommendable…!!
Spoorthi H — Google review
Very cute little cafe and restaurant serving a variety of food from vegan takes on classic Hungarian dishes to pad Thai, gyros and falafel. We had the sharing plate which meant we didn't have to choose from the extensive menu and could try a bit of everything and fill up on some protein. For those looking for a lighter bite there are zucchini noodles dishes and salads on offer too. Drinks are varied but I believe they may all be non-alcoholic. We had the virgin mojito. For those searching for a treat the cage has an incredible range of exquisite cakes and also a variety of ice cream. Service was impeccable. Background music was 90s hits via the saxophone which felt extremely retro but quite fun.

Such a authentic place to have vegan food. We visited this place for lunch and tried a lot of dishes. They all are tasty, authentic and freshly made. Goulash soup, falafel platter, were outstanding. I would highly recommend.

Food is average. Potatoes are from frozen bags and are dry inside, the flavor is barely there. Falafel is also very dry. Seitan is also barely seasoned and it doesn’t taste so good. We expected more looking at the opinions. The best was goulash.

Chez Dodo is a charming café in the heart of Budapest, where French romanticism meets Scandinavian minimalism. The café offers a delightful selection of colorful pastries, with a daily changing menu of macaron flavors such as Jean-Pierre, Henry, and Giselle. Located near Deak Ferenc Square and the Basilica, this cozy spot is known for its friendly staff and delicious coffee. Visitors can also watch artisans craft new macarons from outside the café.
We just went here for coffee, but they have some very colorful macaroons. And a huge variety of them. Definitely worth trying. The coffee was pretty good.
Rin S — Google review
We had 5 different tastes of macarons, and all of them were good! Not too sweet but fully filled with each flavor and very soft. To be honest, I prefer Korean styled Macarons which are very crispy outside and chewy inside. However, we really enjoyed their interior of the shop and all the designs of packages they have. This cafe made my day! This will be one of the best items for gift to lovers!

Delicious and gorgeous éclairs, caneles and macaroons, both sweet and savoury. Service was also lovely. Great place for a break while touring the city.

We tried two types of macarons — Marcel Dark Chocolate and Jägermeister Orange. The Jägermeister Orange had a unique and refreshing flavor, something new and different to try, while the dark chocolate one was a classic — rich and perfectly balanced. Lovely place for quality macarons!

I stumbled into this place by accident while exploring the city, but I must say I was pleasantly surprised. Macarons were really delicious, I had to come back for a second round. 🤭 I’ll probably come back again when I come to Budapest.
Vladana I — Google review
I’m not a big fan of macarons, however I’m not giving 4 stars for them, but for the service and prices. The macarons tasted good according to my friend, however when we were ordering and paying the cashier mentioned the tip option (mind you, you have to go order yourself, so basically self-service), and when I put 0% for tip, she gave me a disgusting look. It’s a shame that is even an option when there is no table service.

Lovely French style pastry shop in the heart of Budapest, selling high quality desserts, coffee and hot chocolate. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Personally I’m not a big macaron fan, but even I find theirs delicious, easily on par with famous stores in Paris. What I highly recommend is their Hot Chocolate with gingerbread. It’s the best hot chocolate in the city and I find myself coming here every other day for it. If you have a sweet tooth, craving authentic french macarons or just a heartwarming hot chocolate to start your day off then this is the place for you. Don’t miss out on this little gem.🎀
Katalin D — Google review
The place is lovely, and the staff are very friendly. I usually don’t like macarons, but the macarons at this place are truly irresistible, not to mention the wide variety of flavors. There are also other types of desserts and several types of drinks. You can either buy to take home or sit and enjoy the desserts. However, note that the space is not large enough during winter for many customers, but it is suitable for a dessert shop. Highly recommended if you want to try macarons for the first time or if you already love them and want to elevate your experience. 👌👌 Even though the prices light be a little expensive but it worth it 💕 A very delightful experience!

Retro Lángos Budapest is a popular walk-up joint located near the Arany Janos Square Metro Stop in downtown Budapest. It offers authentic Hungarian lángos, a fried flatbread, served with various toppings. The menu includes traditional options like cheese and sour cream as well as more unique choices such as ham and cheese-filled lángos. This spot is known for its extensive selection of toppings, but many recommend trying the classic combination of sour cream, cheese, and roasted onion.
This was a great place to eat close to our hotel. We had walked past multiple times to see lines out the door for the traditional Hungarian food. The wait was very short and food came quickly. It was fresh and delicious. Extremely well priced and great portions. Staff were very friendly and decor was fun. I noticed there were multiple locations but if you pass by one and you’re hungry, stop in. It’s well worth it.
Peterconstant — Google review
This spot serves up the classic Hungarian lángos—a must-try street food. The portion is good and the taste is nice, delivering that perfect savory, comforting flavor you're looking for. However, be warned: it's too oily. The excess grease makes an otherwise great dish a bit heavy. A positive note for visitors: this location often offers a 10% discount if you're holding a tourist pass or voucher, so keep an eye out for that deal!
Shima — Google review
I honestly did not expect to find gluten-free & vegan langos in Budapest, but this restaurant made it possible even for people with food intolerancies. That is awesome. There is enough chairs to sit inside or outside, no need to book a reservation. This place is very popular, but staff are working really fast. Standard langos is prepared in 2-3 minutes, for gluten-free langos I had to wait around 10 minutes, but it was completely fine for me. The portion is quite generous, I was really full after eating it. Taste was awesome, just like regular langos although this was vegan & gluten-free. Next time I will just ask for more garlic, otherwise it was simply perfect. I know where to stop next time when I am in Budapest.
Tomáš J — Google review
We got the chilli con carne lángos. It was absolutely amazing. If you're looking to try authentic Hungarian street food in Budapest, Retro Lángos is a must-visit. Located centrally on Bajcsy-Zsilinszky Street, this fast-casual eatery has earned its reputation as one of the city’s top spots for lángos, a deep-fried flatbread traditionally topped with sour cream and cheese. Retro Lángos offers over 30 varieties of lángos, including: Traditional Hungarian-style Vegetarian and vegan options Gluten-free and lactose-free versions Popular choices include the classic sour cream and cheese combo, as well as more adventurous toppings like bacon, goulash, and even dessert-style lángos. The vegan versions are clearly labeled and thoughtfully prepared, with plant-based cheese and sour cream. The vibe is casual and retro-themed, with both indoor and outdoor seating. While the place can get crowded, especially during peak hours, the service is fast and friendly, and the staff are knowledgeable about dietary restrictions. The restaurant is dog-friendly and offers takeaway, making it convenient for both sit-down meals and quick bites. Prices are very reasonable, especially considering the generous portion sizes. Most dishes range from €3 to €7, making it an affordable way to enjoy traditional Hungarian flavors. It’s a great spot for lunch, dinner, or even a late-night snack.
Kelvin W — Google review
The lángos were absolutely delicious. It gets quite crowded around lunchtime, but it's definitely worth the wait. We tried lángos at several places around Budapest, and I’d highly recommend it. The atmosphere was great, too.
Revanth K — Google review
LOVED the place, so budget friendly, fast, tasty AND clean! For 3 people we paid a total of 38€ (with drinks!) I recommend the Langos with ham and rucolla and the one with chicken tzatziki! Also, for drinks I recommend the Dreher Meggy (has a sweet cherry taste). Would definitely come here again and recommend this place to a friend visiting Budapest :)
Daniela D — Google review
We were told to try the Langos while in Budapest. We chose Retro for a combination of convenience and after searching other nearby restaurants for Langos. We were thinking it would be sit down type restaurant, but you order your Langos at one counter, and your drink at another, which was fine. The food came out quick, afterall, the Langos can be fried/prepared fairly quickly and then topped with your favorites. We enjoyed what we had. Surprised these haven't been introduced here in the states.
Paul A — Google review
Didn’t know Langos is this tasty. I didn’t expect much but the combo of the dough/sour cream/cheese & fried onion was absolutely amazing. The restaurant is very casual so you can really sit anywhere. Easy to order things over the counter and they serve it to you at the table. The restaurant itself is small inside but they have ample seating outside. We got lucky with the seating. This place is located a busy area and easy to get to some metros around the area. Highly recommend trying this place.

Tucked away in the heart of Budapest, Hoppácska is a whimsical paradise filled with quirky artifacts and mind-boggling oddities. The eclectic decor features mismatched furniture, peculiar posters, and a ceiling that looks like it was painted by acrobatic monkeys. This hidden gem offers reinvented chimney cakes with unconventional toppings, both sweet creams and savory delicacies. The menu changes weekly, offering three salty and two sweet combinations on edible plates made of lukewarm chimney cake.
We tried the Chimney Burger and the double sweet chimney with poppyseed, vanilla walnut, and raspberry. The poppyseed wasn’t too sweet which we loved (we got used to the seedy-ness), and the raspberry was delightfully light and flavorful with real chunks of raspberry! The owner was so kind to us and gave us plenty of recommendations and explained some Hungarian culture surrounding the flavors. It was a great, small meal!

This is my absolute favourite place in all of Ráday Street. Service is extremely friendly and impeccable, they treat you like family here! Their food is outstanding, one of the best meat patties in the hamburger in all of Budapest! The proposition of a savoury chimney cake with meat sounds weird at first, but trust me, you should give it a try, it will surprise you in the best way possible! Love these guys, their energy and most importantly their sumptuous food!

Lovely people and amazing salty chimney ! The employees welcomed us so well and explained the entire menu perfectly 🫶
Marina L — Google review
Originality is what attracted me here at first, as I never ate savoury Kurtöskalacz before. I had the one with duck and red cabbage and it was really amazing. Great experience. The staff was also very friendly and helpful, which was compensating for the slightly unclear display of the menu (lacking the sides for example or not really explaining the sizes properly). I also had a sweet Kurtöskalacz there, and even if it wasn't the best I ever had it was still very good. The issue with Kurtöskalacz is always that if you prepare them in advance they get dry very fast. This place definitely prepares them in advance but then coats them with a kind if syrup, preserving a bit of it's moisture, so partially compensating for the natural drying of the Kalacz with time. All in all, still a great experience.

They can prepare tasty burger , with special bread, meat was delicious. If you want to try something interesting, you may visit them, but this is not place with so high google review. Bakery
Freyja is a popular neighborhood cafe in Budapest known for its exquisite sweet and savory croissants, as well as sandwiches and coffee. The bakery has gained such popularity that it now has two locations in the city. Each croissant is meticulously crafted with 27 buttered layers, resulting in a light, flaky texture that melts in your mouth. The menu features a variety of creative flavors, including options like prosciutto and goat cheese with fig jam or pistachio.
Travelled half of the Budapest for the best croissant in town and it was not disappointed. I enjoyed the plain croissant more than the pistachio one but that's completely on me because I don't have a sweet tooth and can't really deal with sweet treat in the morning. But the croissant itself was crunchy, flaky and buttery. And when you bite inside, you can see the layers properly done. So it's worthy of the trip. But the flat white was too light and the iced macha latte tastes powdery. In terms of price, it's cheaper than the cafes in the city centre.
Jia L — Google review
It holds its own against the classic French croissant. It has more structural integrity but still has a flakiness and chewiness to it (not as flaky or messy, almost neat). The tastes are complimentary - I got the raspberry pistachio flower croissant and it was well balanced. Small but satisfying. À bit expensive but it is artisanal. The cafe has seating but is no laptop (which was annoying but I respect. Free Wi-Fi). PS there was no queue when I went and the tables turnover quick which was nice! Also toilets :)
Kelly F — Google review
They have good sweet croissants and they used to have savory options as well (ham and cheese croissant, in particular). However, the savory options are off the menu now and when I asked for ham and cheese croissant, I was told that they only have a sandwich now but offered to switch bread with croissant. Well, what I received was a total disappointment, which tasted mediocre at best. Would only recommend to come here for their sweet croissants.
Sofia K — Google review
Looks way better than it tastes. Had the pistachio croissant and the pumpkin spice caramelita cruffin. The pistachio cream was way too salty and the pastry to dry. Coffee was okay but nothing more. Interior light should be a little less “white” to make it more cozy.

The venue exudes sophistication with its curated cocktail list and refined atmosphere, reminiscent of a prohibition-era speakeasy. The bartenders are highly skilled and passionate about their craft, serving up delicious and visually stunning cocktails alongside exquisite eats.
A must go place in Budapest if like cocktails!! We went there to celebrate my friend’s birthday, and absolutely had a wonderful time there! Amazing vibe and great cocktails! Loved this place - the music was awesome, the bartenders were super guest-friendly, and the signature cocktails were really interesting. My favorite was Tropical Thunder! The beautiful glassware and perfectly made ice show that the people working here truly love what they do. I’ll definitely be coming back for the atmosphere alone. Highly recommend checking this spot out!
Anastasiya P — Google review
Black Swan Cocktail Bar made a great impression straight away. It has a speakeasy style where you normally ring a bell to be let in, although I happened to walk in as someone else was leaving, which clearly threw the member of staff who greeted me. I was seated at the bar, which I always enjoy as a solo traveller. My first drink was a really unique cocktail topped with a burnt mushroom garnish. It gave off an unusual aroma and created a flavour combination I’ve never tried before, but I actually really liked it. I ended up having two more cocktails while chatting with the bartender serving me. She was friendly, gave me recommendations for other bars to try, and talked a bit about how beautiful the Buda side of the city is. It was a genuinely nice chat and exactly the kind of interaction you appreciate when travelling alone. The bar itself is beautifully designed, with a huge range of spirits on display. I even ordered an extra drink I hadn’t planned on getting, which says a lot about how much I was enjoying myself. The drinks, after service charge too, are slightly on the expensive side for Budapest, but the quality is absolutely there, so it doesn’t feel unreasonable. If I had one criticism (which I actually mentioned to the staff), it’s that the artwork next to each cocktail in the menu is an AI image rather than a real photograph. As a photographer, it feels like a missed opportunity not to commission a proper image or source something that matches the drink. It comes across as a lazy choice, but it doesn’t affect my rating at all. Overall, I really enjoyed the place. Great drinks, great atmosphere and excellent service 😊
Ryan S — Google review
Went in having super high expectations just because our friends had gone and ranked it a 10/10. I left the bar with a solid experience, but I wouldn’t rate it at a mindblowing favorite bar in the world level. Apparently they just changed owners six months ago. Don’t get me wrong, the drinks were all delicious, but they were made mostly with store bought liqueurs so none of the flavors were especially new to me. The interior was cool and dark, and it was literally right underneath our Airbnb so perfect location. Worth going to if you’re in the area for sure though!

The music didn’t realky go with it, a rockabily, jazzy music would be better, but that is all. It’s very small, but cozy. The service was friendly and the drinks great. We will be back for sure
Eva F — Google review
Unique cocktails and fun, loud party vibe in an intimate setting. You will easily see what your neighboring table ordered and the reaction on their face, but you’ll barely hear what they have to say. Great time, great music, great cocktails (from the menu or classics), clubby sounds tracks
Vitalie D — Google review
Phenomenal cocktail bar. All of the drinks we had were very tasty and unique. The bartender gave us lots of recommendations for our time in Budapest which was super helpful.
Travis S — Google review
Please never go to this place. It is very hard for me to give such a low rating to this place because I had very high expectations. The service was perfect and the place is small but still nice and atmospheric. The cocktail we got was beautiful and tasty but the reason I gave one star is exactly what you can see in the photo I attached. This is honestly shameless and outrageous. I paid 5500ft for a quarter glass of cocktail maybe five sips. I will never go back and I do not recommend anyone to waste their money here.

It is a cafe that specializes in sweet strudels with different fillings and also salty ones. The cafe always comes up with new flavor combinations, so it is a paradise for strudel lovers. Additionally, the cafe has fresh strudels available all the time. If you like strudels, you should visit Strudel Hugó.
We found this place, next to our accomodation it's so warm and cozy. And the lady from the bar is very kind, the strudels are amazing we had tried: poppy seed, cottage cheese and peach. Also, for the coffee options, you can ask for free caffeine.
Flavia P — Google review
Found it bei accident, since New York Café around the corner had a huge line. Friendly staff behind the counter. It's a small space but cozy and light-filled. Tried the cottage cheese one which was very good for 750 forint and a latte for 950. Prices have gone up a bit
Chiquita M — Google review
Very cute small independent business. Great strudel and coffee. I had the cabbage strudel which was absolutely delicious!!! Others with me had the sour cherry and plum and cinnamon, but also very good but there were a few cherry pits in that particular strudel.
Susan M — Google review
Visited this place based on a friend's recommendation. Very friendly staff behind the counter. It's a small space but cozy and light-filled. Tried 3 slices of strudels. The poppy seed and the cottage cheese filled ones were good. The cabbage was slightly disappointing. The flavor was good but the texture was too mushy.
Nancy C — Google review
I was very impressed by the wide assortment of strudel flavors. We tried the cheese, pumpkin, and sour cherry flavors, which I would strongly suggest! Super delicious and reasonably priced.
Marius F — Google review
The cherry is incredible. But i don't think they sell anything bad. In a city where excellent bread and pastry is available, if you search it out... this is a shining beacon of deliciousness. Highly recommended.

Just had the best apricot & quark (creamed cottage cheese) strudel ever. The fruit had beautiful flavour and the quark wasn’t too sweet. Perfect. Definitely coming back to try some of the other strudels on offer.

Restaurant
Nestled in the charming family-friendly neighborhood of Zuglo, also known as District XIV, Szaletly is a hidden gem that many tourists might overlook. This trendy area offers a glimpse into the authentic lifestyle of Budapest residents, and Szaletly perfectly embodies this vibe. With its stunning interior featuring expansive windows that flood the space with natural light and impressive wooden shelves reaching lofty ceilings, it’s an aesthetically pleasing spot to unwind.
Szaletly is a beautiful spot in Budapest with a thoughtful menu and warm atmosphere. While many of their dishes are soy-based - which limited my options due to dietary restrictions - the items I was able to enjoy were absolutely delicious. The flavors were refined and memorable, and the presentation was lovely. The staff was kind and accommodating, and overall, it was a wonderful dining experience despite my limitations. If you don’t have dietary restrictions, you’ll be spoiled for choice, but even with them, the quality of what I had made it well worth the visit.
AJ — Google review
I had dinner at this restaurant recommended by the Michelin Guide. Unfortunately, it was only open for outdoor dining, so I couldn’t enjoy the interior, which looked very charming. I was drawn by their philosophy of using local ingredients, and the service staff were consistently polite and professional. The dishes were simple yet very well prepared, with excellent quality ingredients that I truly appreciated. I also discovered new recipes I hadn’t tried before, especially among the desserts. The wine selection was also very good, with both local and international options. Overall, a very good experience.
Michele — Google review
It’s really worth the 5 stars in google! Szaletly in Budapest is a true gem. From the moment we arrived, the service was outstanding—attentive, gracious, and genuinely perfect in every way. The food was simply excellent, with every dish showing great attention to detail and quality. The highlight of the evening was the Makos Guba, which was absolutely phenomenal and alone would make a visit worthwhile. The wine list deserves special mention—it is well above average, featuring a thoughtful selection that perfectly complements the dishes. The restaurant itself is beautifully designed, offering a warm and stylish atmosphere that makes you feel immediately comfortable. Szaletly is easily one of the best dining experiences in Budapest, combining refined cuisine, exceptional service, and an inviting ambiance. Highly recommended.

Everything was perfect. The food was amazing. The staff were the best! They were professional and kind. They even gave us a complimentary dessert because they noticed we just got married. These were also very good desserts too! We would definitely love to come back when we're in Budapest again. 💯
Zandra G — Google review
Wonderful. I have been trying to go to lots of new places for my 60th birthday year, and this was the last of the trips. To treat us, I booked the tasting menu - on vegetarian, and one not - both with the wine pairings... It was a lovely experience, I enjoyed all the wines, apart from the saki - which is a personal thing. For the price, you wouldn't get this back home. Can recommend!!!
Thomas G — Google review
The place is quiet nice, the staff was really kind and helpful. We tried the 5 course meal. The soup and the first main dish (the chicken) were not the best, but the others were really tasty. Also the limonade selection was really good.
Tamás K — Google review
My trip to Budapest was intended to visit several Michelin-starred restaurants. Szaletly was one of them. The menu is interesting, with plenty to choose from, and the dishes served are of a high standard. They offer interesting taste sensations and are also visually pleasing. The only caveat is the very loud music from the speakers and the live music; it's difficult to have a conversation.
Piotr T — Google review
Szaletly offers an elevated take on Hungarian cuisine in a calm, beautifully designed setting. I started with the foie gras mousse, paired with raspberry-honey pear purée, chamomile apple and a hazelnut brioche. It tasted rich, balanced, and creative. The cellar goulash (pincepörkölt) was a standout: very tender Hungarian Simmental beef in a deep, flavorful sauce, served with warm smoked potatoes. The smoked potatoes added an earthy, aromatic touch. It was surprisingly good. As for the desert, Tokaji duo + bites, matched with two stunning sweet wines: Serpens 2018 and Bott-rytis. A perfect ending. Service was smooth and knowledgeable, Highly recommended for anyone wanting to explore the depth of modern Hungarian gastronomy.

Walked a long way to come here and it was worth it! Their 2nd location closer to the city center was closed when we tried to go in May 2025. Here’s a list of what we got: Our favorites (would def come back just for these) Cabbage - 5/5 So delicious - we were lucky to get it when it came out fresh from the oven. So much flavor! Poppy seed and cherry - 5/5 def one of my favorites. The cherries were juicy but not wet and the poppy seed was so good! Some of our least favorites Apple - 3.5/5 apple desserts are not my favorite in general so I am biased there but thought it was a tiny bit too wet Cottage cheese dill - 3/5 was debating between the plain cottage and the cottage dill and the dill one was a bit too sweet. I think the plain one would be been a lot better
Cheri C — Google review
simple, humble, and full of character. Here, you can taste all the classic flavors, and every single one is absolutely delicious. The must-tries are cherry, apple, cottage cheese, and poppy seed. We even tried a savory cabbage one — yes, savory! We first ordered four flavors, but they were so good that we ended up going back for two more.

I was just going to friend place and I notice this very small and traditional strudel place. I didn’t have any expectations, but when I tasted I was so impressed!! Wow, that is a very traditional and tasty strudel!!! I’m so sad it’s far from where I live, but I guess I might go again and take some other piece! 100% suggested

Such a nice place, also inside it looks very authentic. Staff is super friendly! And the cabbage strudel is sooo good! The others are really good too, but I recommend cabbage and the plum one.

Great strudel and great price! Some savory strudels too which was a new one for me, also very good. 100 year old shop, seemed like mostly local traffic while we were there. The man who works there is so nice and excited to give local reccs.

Very nice "Rétes". Many different flavors, owners were very kind and talkative. (Good to know: they serve hot drinks only until 19:00)

The best strudel I had for a very long time. Tried most of them. These strudels are absolutely delicious. I’m not a big fan of savoury strudels but even their cabbage version is quite nice. Cheese, sour cherry, plum, apricot, poppyseed, etc..they are all just yummy. Only had 3 in the shop but I took home 12 and they didn’t last long. The lady serving me was great. Hope I’ll be in Budapest soon and can have more of them, especially the sour cherry and the poppyseed one.

Jacques Liszt is a small craft bakery located in the heart of Budapest, founded by Mihaly Juhasz who left his corporate legal career to pursue his passion for baking in 2012. The bakery has gained popularity among bread enthusiasts for its variety of sourdough loaves, including whole wheat and rye. In addition to their signature kovaszos croissants, the bakery also offers ciabatta, baguette, and kalacs (rolled bread).
Cozy bakery with a nice variety of breads and amazing pastries, especially the pistachio and chocolate croissants, plus the sajtos rúd. The coffee is decent, and the people inside are very helpful they also speak English. Absolutely one of my favorite spots

Tucked away in the heart of Budapest, just a stone’s throw from the majestic Danube River and the bustling tram lines, lies a quaint bakery that feels like a slice of home. This boutique pastry shop, with its warm, family-oriented atmosphere, invites locals and travelers alike to indulge in a delightful array of baked goods. Upon entering, you’re greeted by the comforting aroma of freshly baked bread and pastries, a testament to the shop’s commitment to quality and tradition. The selection is commendable, offering a variety of treats that cater to both traditional Hungarian tastes and international palates. While the shop exudes charm, visitors might find themselves a tad bewildered if not fluent in Hungarian. The English language barrier can present a momentary puzzle, but the staff’s hospitality and the universal language of delicious food quickly bridge any gaps in communication. This central Budapest bakery is a worth visiting. Its proximity to the Danube and the city’s sights makes it an ideal stop for a sweet respite. Despite the language hurdle, the experience is overwhelmingly positive, leaving you with a taste of Hungary’s rich culinary heritage and the warmth of its people.

(Translated by Google) I've been following the insta site for a while now, but I visited the "shop" for the first time to order a cake for Mother's Day. We received a beautiful little mini cake, which could be ordered in a flavor that is close to us (my mom is less experimental). Still, after the small slice of taste orgy, we only had the energy to rest. The taste is wonderful, my mother pinched each layer separately and explained which one was what. (unfortunately, the page where you could order is no longer available and I can't find it in the order confirmation to confirm or help you with this). Coffee mousse is what I remember. The edible flowers on top are very creative (and really edible :D) I recommend it to everyone! We will definitely order from here again, in fact, we will be more experimental next time. Thank you for the great opportunity! Köszönjük a nagyszerű lehetőséget!

We had a fantastic stay at this hotel! The view was absolutely stunning, especially at sunrise (castle view). The room was clean and well-maintained. What really stood out was the staff – everyone was nice, friendly, and always willing to help with a smile. Specifically Lilla at the front desk and Andrea in the gym. The breakfast was simply amazing – a wide variety of delicious options (both Hungarian and international), fresh and beautifully presented. Highly recommended!

We absolutely loved our stay! Honestly one one the best Marriott stays ever! The hotel is updated, beautiful & well decorated! The service was EXCELLENT. I will say the concierge was average, not as friendly as everyone else which seemed strange. The “M Club” was absolutely exceptional!! to be honest you wouldn’t have to eat anywhere else but of course while in Budapest, you want to go explore wonderful cafés and restaurants. And let me just say the location was totally amazing!! River views were gorgeous! The views from our room was fabulous. The Riverwalk was a huge bonus!

I stayed at the Marriott Budapest in September this year and had an incredible experience. The rooms were fantastic, and the rooftop bar offered an unforgettable view—especially at sunset and during the night. The staff were exceptionally friendly and accommodating. The Front Office Manager from Azerbaijan (whose name I unfortunately forgot) was particularly attentive and helpful. The breakfast spread was impressive, and the head chef along with the coffee shop staff were welcoming and professional. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Thanks a lot for senior guest experience agent Karoly Kocsis’s warm support during the stay. He is very helpful and professional in managing the room. The staffs here are very warm and helpful. I will definitely recommend this hotel to my friends and families. It deserves the best hotel reward of Budapest!

The place as a whole is simply beautiful as is most of the places I’ve visited. No the customer service at the hotel/luxury apartments where w are currently is even better than the than the grandaddy Marriott. This place is like their Airbnb and even though you don’t get the upscale look and high end aesthetics, but the place was really nice and well kept. Front desk staff was very friendly and accommodating. I’m really enjoying the vibe here.

Starbucks Fashion is a Seattle-based coffeehouse chain that offers signature roasts, light bites, and WiFi. It's a reliable spot for a familiar drink and provides tourist information at some locations. Customers appreciate the clean, bright, and airy atmosphere of refurbished branches. The staff are friendly and efficient, making it a good choice for daily coffee. While prices can be high and queues long on weekends, the overall experience is pleasant with open outdoor seating available in some locations.

Had a lovely time here! Order a cappuccino, nice and hot, and then got offered to try one of their new winter drinks! Super tasty and very kind of the waiters to offer samples to the costumers :)
Joana G — Google review
Be careful and keep the receipt. You order something and then they say you didn't. This happens several times on several different occasions and different days, so it's systematic. We asked the coffee on a glass, and they said there's only 1 hour until closing so they cannot give it in a glass, only disposable cup. The food and atmosphere are good, it's just the service that is terrible.
Yaniv K — Google review
Unfortunately, my visit to Starbucks was very disappointing. Not only did I not receive what I ordered, but the staff was also extremely unhelpful. When I politely pointed out the mistake, their response was dismissive and showed no willingness to fix the issue. I also noticed that their attitude toward other customers was similarly rude – no smiles, no effort, and a generally unfriendly atmosphere. From a brand like Starbucks, I expected a much higher standard of service. I truly hope this was just an isolated incident, but after this experience, I’ll definitely think twice before coming back.
Laura P — Google review
Overall: ★★★★☆ Food: Coffee Chain A strong four stars for Starbucks. People often knock it but it is actually very good for a daily coffee. It is consistent, reliable and the refurbished branches such as this one are clean, bright and airy. The staff are friendly, speak English and keep the place tidy. I have been to this location several times and they never make a mistake with my order. They speak better English here than some of the ones in England! What I liked: • Blonde Roast Americano (short cup size with an extra shot) What I didn't like: • A lack of seating. There is definitely space for a few more seats Do I recommend it? YES Will I go again? YES Was it good value? YES Price point: $

If you're in Budapest during the holiday season, make sure to visit the Christmas markets and festivals to try the traditional chimney cakes known as Street Cakes. Originating from Transylvania, these oversized kurtoskalacs cakes are baked over an open fire and coated with a variety of flavors such as cinnamon, freeze-dried blueberry, or dried ginger.
Such an awesome place. The workers are really friendly and the place is very cozy. The chimney cakes were so delicious omg. Tip: instead of a syrup topping, get a nutella filling, totally worth it.

We went in search for this place which, to be honest, wasn’t as good as I had envisioned. After seeing lost of people trying it out we figured it must be really good. It took quite a while to get our desserts to arrive and when they did the ice cream had already started to melt. I ended up trying to eat an almost empty casing with a pool of ice cream gathering at the bottom. They also got my boyfriends order wrong, however they did offer to make him a new one so great customer service in that front. Nice place with friendly staff, but maybe not worth rushing across town for.

Small place but with a great flavor. It's my favorite for a real kurtos with icecream. The staff, 2 beautiful girls, were helpful and kindly.

Chimney cakes are not usually filled, but here they offer you the chance to create a custom chimney. The ice cream is ok, the cake is also ok. It's worth a try, but I prefer the normal type of chimney cake.

It was okay. It looked very pretty, but the ice cream quality wasn't great, and the cakes were bland and a bit stale. I didn't expect them to be hot because the ice cream would melt, but they just weren't great. Slightly overpriced for what you get, but it makes for a nice picture.

Domi’s Kitchen Factory is a local bake shop in Budapest known for its delicious homemade sweets and friendly staff. While the physical store is closed, they offer cake delivery with a wide variety of treats at reasonable prices. The interior is charming with attention to detail, and the staff provides positive and kind service. Customers recommend trying the raspberry cheesecake and sugar/gluten-free mango cheesecake. Although seating inside is limited, there's more available outside where blankets are provided.
Great tasty brunch, gently and smiley service, and very good prices! recommended!

Really nice little spot in the heart of Budapest. They have a big variety of foods and drinks for reasonable prices. There’s not a lot of seating inside, however much more outside. They do offer blankets for outside. The staff is very friendly. The hot chocolate wasn’t really hot or warm. Most of the cutlery was dirty and we had to clean it ourselves.

Nice, quiet place with pretty cakes. Unfortunately the taste is not so good, it's flat and "just" sweet. I ordered cake with popcorn looking for some new texture and saltiness, but came out disappointed and with half of a piece not finished because of how sweet it was. Too bad! I hope that they will balance the flavors better in the future because the place is really nice and there is card payment avaliable (which is sadly not a standard in many Hungarian locals).

A lovely local bake shop! The interior is full of small details here and there, the staff is very friendly, positive, and kind. The homemade sweets are delicious and (by my modest opinion) worth a bit more than you’re paying for. I loved the raspberry cheesecake even tho I’m not a fan of raspberries. I went on and tried a sugar and gluten free mango cheesecake - delicious! Tips aren’t included, so be sure to bring some local currency; the service and the cakes are more than worth it.

Great coffee and beautiful cakes. You can see them being made too! Great little find in Budapest.

Good coffee. There are some really good vegan desserts here. I'm impressed.

Very nice and cozy place, friendly stuff. Falafel was good, cookies so delicious and great coffee.

Girlfriend and I were so lucky to find this gem. Made pancakes better than I ever had them, and they can fit all dietary needs. Locally run and everything tastes homemade. This should be your go to breakfast place in Budapest.
