Kurtoskalacs, also known as chimney cakes, is a popular Hungarian pastry that can be found in bakeries and markets across the country. These cone-shaped cakes are rolled in cinnamon sugar and often served warm, with the option of being filled with ice cream. There are various flavors to choose from, such as cinnamon and walnut. The price is reasonable compared to touristy spots, and the service is quick.
Really the best chimney cake I’ve ever had, my Hungarian boyfriend ordered it for us, judging by the reviews it probably helped.. we got a fresh steaming one 😆
Adrienne D — Google review
The cinnamon was 800ft, not bad, but maybe we got it late, so the bread was cold.
Wen C — Google review
Located inside the metro station. Offers wide variety of chimney cakes. Hazelnut, vanilla, coconut, among others.

very delicious cake both chocolate and vanilla and cost only 800ft
Antreas B — Google review
The shop is underground at station Astoria and easy to find. The price is very good and the warm chimney cakes are delicious. Plus, it smells like heaven when taken out of the oven. Cinnamon and walnuts ones are my favorite and it’s a must try when in Budapest.
Irina C — Google review
Thank you that you make the Station Astoria with your Kurtoskalacs smell like heaven! I always likes to go up with the escalator from the subway. Big thanks from my nose!👃🏻
Martin — Google review
The best chimney cake in the whole of Budapest! This a great spot if you don't want to get ripped off and try chimney cake at like a local. In Jan 2023 we got a cake for only 700 ft and they have a lot of flavors to choose from. Very friendly staff except for when you try to take a picture, which I really didn't get.
Matteo T — Google review
This is a very frustrating situation, and the way they handled it is clearly problematic. If a place sells chimney cakes, it’s a basic expectation that they serve them properly made and warm. What’s even more outrageous is that when it turned out they didn’t even have a way to bake them, they didn’t offer any solution but simply stated that there would be no refund. From a consumer perspective, this is unfair, and at the very least, some form of compensation should have been offered—whether a replacement with another product or at least an apology.

Café Gerbeaud, established in 1858, is a renowned and lavishly adorned coffeehouse located in Budapest. The grand dining room features high ceilings and elegant chandeliers, offering a selection of coffee, delectable cakes, and Hungarian bistro specialties. The café's opulent décor includes original exotic-wood paneling, antique furniture, and intricate stucco details.
a beautiful historical cafe in Budapest. my tour guide said that this cafe has the best ice cream in Budapest (and she claimed that she was an ice cream connoisseur); and the ice cream didn’t disappoint! the coffee is also pretty good! they also have a piano performance on the weekend. would strongly recommend this place!
Linh N — Google review
Went there to have our coffee & cake The place was so posh & elegant , old classic design . We ordered 6 different cakes to share and there were all delicious & made with lovely design & full of taste They have a variety of gluten free & vegan cakes which you hardly find anywhere Toilets are downstairs / underground Staff was not aware of allergy so u need to be careful as I asked her for gluten free cake & she said ( yes it’s vegan ) and when I explained vegan means without animal products while gluten free means without wheat or flour she got upset and kept saying ( yes they are vegan ) 🙄🫤 They need more education & awareness of such allergies
S H — Google review
Had a great time here. Pretty decent coffee (maybe little acidic for my taste, but still good), great Royal Chocolate cake and delicious Croque Monsieur. Excellent staff, very pretty interior. Price as expected for the place, not cheap by a longshot but surely not a rip-off.
Jakub Š — Google review
An iconic and elegant café in the heart of Budapest. I tried the famous Dobos Cake, a traditional Hungarian dessert made of thin sponge layers, rich chocolate buttercream, and a shiny caramel top. It was absolutely delicious, perfectly balanced and not too sweet. The cake itself has a long history: it was created by József C. Dobos in the late 1800s and became one of the symbols of Hungarian pastry art, once served even to the Austro-Hungarian royal family. The interior of Café Gerbeaud is stunning, with chandeliers, marble tables, and an atmosphere that feels like stepping back in time. Prices are a bit high, but the experience is truly worth it.
Patrizia P — Google review
We went to this cafe on a weekday afternoon, and the indoor area was full! Beautiful interior design, very elegant. We had the Hungarian classics on one plate, which contained three slices of dessert selections with vanilla ice cream and apricot sauce. To be honest, didn’t expect that’s how the famous Dobo cake tasted like😅it’s just not for the ones with weak teeth.. the top layer was extremely sturdy. We enjoyed the Gerbeaud slice more.
Minnie L — Google review
Definitely worth experiencing once. I got there early in the morning and was lucky to be seated immediately, so I reckon it’s best to go in the morning to avoid the bigger crowds. Came for a quick dobos cake and coffee, was very nice and pleasant but I do think there’s a lot of hype (and history) behind this place. Service is a bit slow but that’s to be expected, and the prices are pretty high. But still and enjoyable and memorable experience. Stunning decor and gorgeous building.
S C — Google review
Overpriced and not worth the hype. I visited Gerbeaud Café, intrigued by its historic reputation and grand interior, and went specifically to try the famous traditional Hungarian layer cake — Dobos Torte. However, the experience was quite disappointing. We visited after lunch hours and noticed a queue of about 10–12 people outside, even though it moved fairly quickly. Once inside, we were surprised to see the café almost empty. It really felt like they keep people waiting just to create an illusion of high demand — they could easily allocate seats faster. The most shocking part was the pricing. If you choose to dine in, you pay almost double — for example, a slice of Dobos Torte costs 4,250 HUF when eaten on the premises versus 1,990 HUF for takeaway. We decided to go for takeaway instead, and honestly, I’m glad we did. The famous Dobos cake itself was underwhelming — the caramel layer on top was rock hard and nearly impossible to cut, the sponge layers were dry, and the overall taste was overly sweet and unimpressive. An experience I wouldn’t repeat, and definitely not something I’d recommend — especially considering the unreasonable prices.
Dory G — Google review
I didn’t know this place and I was invited there. Very nice old style tea place where you can find food too. The cakes are excellent and the tea and coffee options great. I got a good cake , a lemonade and an espresso martini - excellent for a 5 o’clock moment.

Auguszt Cukrászda Belváros is a charming and traditional café with a cozy atmosphere, featuring classic Hungarian cakes and desserts. The family-run business has been passing down recipes through generations, offering a delightful selection of treats such as Dobos cake, retes, and Eszterhazy cake. Whether you're on the Pest or Buda side of the city, you're likely to come across one of their three locations.
I visited Auguszt Cukrászda Belváros and purchased cakes. The café itself has a charming, traditional ambiance with elegant mirrors and warm wood-backed furniture. The cake was beautifully presented, showcasing the craftsmanship that Auguszt is known for. The flavors were rich and well-balanced, making for a delightful treat. If you're looking for a cozy spot with high-quality pastries, this is a great choice!

Great cakes. Good espresso. Quiet place to sit down. What else would you need to kick off your afternoon? The down side is the FOMO for the cakes you haven't tried...
Eshel H — Google review
We went to this lovely cafe for breakfast today and had a truly wonderful time. This lovely lady provided us with excellent service. I've never seen better service. I highly recommend it. We also had dessert and coffee, and everything from the food to the drinks was excellent.
Deniz — Google review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A true Budapest gem! Auguszt is not just a café – it’s a piece of Hungarian history served on a plate. Every bite feels like a journey through generations of craftsmanship and tradition. We tried the Dobos torte, the Krémes, and a savory quiche – all absolutely outstanding. The Dobos was rich yet perfectly balanced, the Krémes was light and heavenly, and even the salad next to the quiche was fresh and flavorful. The coffee was excellent too. The atmosphere is elegant but warm, with a real sense of family heritage. You can feel the pride and love that go into every pastry. Unlike the touristy cafés around the city, this one feels authentic, calm, and genuinely Hungarian. If you want to experience the soul of Budapest’s pastry culture – this is the place. Highly recommended!

Fabulous cukrászda! Very good selection of pastries, delicious krémes and Esterhazy cake. Excellent service, very friendly and welcoming. Felt comfortable taking our time and relaxing in the calm atmosphere. Would definitely visit again.

The cream cake, coffee and hot chocolate were top notch. The staff was lovely, quick and efficient. Seating arrangements and the atmosphere in the cafe were some of the best we've seen in the city. Hightly recommend having coffee or dessert here.

What a place to visit! This cozy place has the right atmosphere to enjoy a cup of coffee and some fantastic pastries. I tried the vanilla wallnut cone and the Auguszt kremes which both were PERFECT! highly recommended and will definitely visit again once.

J&G Palacsintafaló is a charming and vibrant crepe store in Budapest that offers an amazing menu with a variety of delicious options. I cycled 500 km from Romania to Budapest in one day to try these amazing pancakes. (Check my "STRAVA" app : "Maximilian La_bini")).I give this place 11 out of 10!!!. Best crepes we had. The fillings are super tasty and i especially recommend the cottage cheese and fruit filling. They also have gluten free crepes.
Michelle S — Google review
I popped in for a take away as I was intriqued by the 'aranygalushka' flavoured crepe. The place is near Astoria by the University of Theatre and Arts. They have 1 table outside, 1 inside on the left as you walk in and many upstairs to eat-in. Order process is easy and quick, they take both cash and card payments. You get a white buzzer to alert you when your order is ready. I ordered an apricot jam one and another of that aranygalushka which is walnut filling and vanillia sauce. The crepes were made to perfection. The packaging looked nice too. They were ready in a few minutes from order. Overall nice little place. The pancakes are very big so you might not be able to finish them in one go.
Linda T — Google review
I had never tried these crepes before, and it was a new and enjoyable flavor experience for me. The most important positive point, in my opinion, was the balance of flavors, which prevented the sweetness of the crepe from becoming overwhelming. The use of a slightly tangy ice cream and fruity sauces on the crepe created a well-balanced taste. The garnish was simple and just right. Perhaps the only negative aspect for me was related to the service. If you chose to dine in, you had to place your order and bring it upstairs yourself, and also return your dishes afterward. While this isn’t uncommon especially in large cafes or restaurants with high foot traffic and disposable tableware it felt a bit inconvenient here. Considering the design of the stairs, which were slightly risky, there was a chance of breaking the dishes, and I think that was a drawback for this particular café. Also, they offered a free drink if you showed them your feedback, which I thought was a fun and interesting option.
Masoud G — Google review
A great place! We happened to pass by while walking through the 8th district of Budapest, and decided to try it out. We went for the savory green pesto palacsinta and the sweet Esterhazy. Both were delicious!! I favored the savory, but the Eszterházy was also to die for! Both were "hatalmas", "óriási" - in other words, humongous! It's a very pretty place, too, with a gallery upstairs with tables and WiFi. János and his partner own the place and are very sympatique - had a delightful conversation with János mostly in Hungarian (I wanted the practice) but he's fluent in English! Will definitely return!

Ruszwurm Confectionery is a historic family-run cafe located in the Castle District of Buda, Budapest. Established in 1827, this charming dessert cafe is renowned for its traditional Hungarian pastries, including the iconic creamy pastry known as "kremes." The cafe's signature almond cake has been a best-seller for nearly two decades and offers a delightful harmony of almond cream and caramel layers.
We had a tour and talked to owner. What an amazing story behind their purchase and getting into the business. Lovely people and wonderful products. Not a dining experience. A candy, confectionery business.
Paul B — Google review
Coffee shop with a lot of history. Great coffee and very nice cakes, the Ruszwurm custard cake was delicious. Avoid the lemonade; many people left it unfinished. Unfortunately, it's a popular tourist spot, so the shop is always very busy, and the service was very poor.
KloudManc — Google review
The cake was highly popular. I guess we are not for it as it had lots of cream but it is a cream cake so it’s only natural. It tasted good though. We just wanted to try this cafe as it has a long history. If you sit indoors, it is warm though so maybe sitting outdoors would be much better😀
Yeo ( — Google review
Absolutely loved this patisserie! The cake was moist, flavorful, and perfectly sweet — you can tell it’s made with love. The coffee was rich and smooth, a perfect match. What really makes this place special is the charming old-school vibe — vintage decor, cozy atmosphere, and a peaceful setting that takes you back in time. A good spot to unwind with a treat. Highly recommend!
Sarah M — Google review
We came for the Kremes ( Vanilla Cream Slice) and stayed for the Almond cake. Last visit was 8yrs ago and it is exactly as we remember. Yes the wait might be long to get a table and the staff are busy, but that's because it is so good. There are lots of beautiful places to sit not too far from the cafe so if the line is long, grab it to go. We visited twice this time around and great both times
Daniella B — Google review
Historic and popular café near Buda Castle, but a bit overrated. We waited in a long queue for an outdoor table. Tried three recommended pastries—none were particularly impressive. Staff wasn’t friendly. Not accessible for wheelchairs—there are 3–4 steps at the entrance.
Trawheel.packer — Google review
Good coffee and cream cake. The reason I gave it 1 star is because the service was bad. This cafe is known for its cream cake. Upon arrival I ordered 4 coffees and 4 cream cakes. We then got 4 coffees promptly and then just got 1 cream cake. I asked where the other 3 were and the server said they were sold out. Why couldn't he tell me this earlier? Secondly, this cafe is famous for cream cake, how could they sell out of such an iconic item
Akil M — Google review
If you’re a fan of desserts and tasty pastries, you must try their pastries. You will not be disappointed. I bake a lot and what I tried was heavenly. Congrats for making cakes and baked goodies for almost 200 years. Food: 5+/5 - we had the crème cake, caramel cake and Eszterhazy torta! My favorite was the Ruszwurm cake. They even have cookies and gluten free options. Try their assorted drinks and ice creams. I had the sour cherry lemonade which was full of fruity taste. They also offer takeout if you choose not to wait. Service: 5/5 the servers outside did a wonderful job with the crowd control as the odd person tried sneaking in. The lineups can get crazy and hectic. Atmosphere: 4/5 - there was outdoor and inside seating.

Gelarto Rosa is a popular dessert shop located near St. Stephen's Basilica in Budapest, known for its unique flower-shaped ice creams and sorbets. The ice cream scoops are artfully crafted to resemble roses and come in a variety of flavors, including lavender, white chocolate, lemon, and basil. Despite being touristy, the shop is well-loved for its delicious treats and often has long queues due to its popularity.
Beautiful gelato roses and delicious. The queue can be fairly long on sunny days but the wait is sort it. I tried few fruit flavours and all were very good. Prices are bit on the higher side but it’s a nice treat.

Ice creams were beautiful and tasted great! We got rose, lavender and white chocolate, peach, oreo, vanilla, dark chocolate, and salted caramel. All flavors were amazing, but the peach, lavender, and rose stood out. 10/10 would recommend.
Lila S — Google review
Enjoy your ice cream while watching the sunset near the Basilica — such a beautiful setting! They’re creative with flavors and the rose-shaped ice cream design makes it extra special. The location adds to the experience — a perfect spot for delicious ice cream.
Mahsa S — Google review
I saw pictures online of their rose-shaped ice cream and had to try it. I didn’t have high expectations for the taste, but I was pleasantly surprised—it’s really good! There was no line, and the service was fine. A nice, relaxed spot to try something different in Budapest.
Luana B — Google review
Conveniently located right next to St. Stephen’s Basilica. The staff are friendly and have a unique style of serving ice cream. The selection is wide, and the flavors are really good. The place itself is quite small, so you may need to queue outside for a bit, but it’s not too bad. There’s one line for payment, where you get your ticket, and another for ordering your flavours and collecting your ice cream.
Eva B — Google review
The gelato was super delicious and I had an amazing experience getting to try and taste all the flavors. The flavors were super unconventional and honestly matched the vibe of the Gelateria as each gelato itself is shaped into a rose and flower. They had a lot of natural flavors as a result, for example, we got rose, lavender, peach, and they had a ton of other options as well. Their creamed gelato flavors were also delicious and would recommend the gelateria in totality.

Artisanal gelato. It's pricey, but if you are first timers in Budapest, it's worth the splurge. Love the unique floral flavors I got.

Despite its name suggesting a focus solely on strudels, the menu actually offers a wide range of Hungarian classics such as goulash, Hortobágy meat pancakes, veal paprikash, and oven-baked pork knuckles.
Just like we remember 8 yrs ago. We had to visit twice this trip as they had run our of plum strudel ( it was close to 10pm at night) so of course we had to come back a second time. Each time was just as we had expected - amazing!! Our recommendation - Plum, Sour Cherry, Cheese + Apricot, Apricot, Cheese and last but not least Apple If you go during the day you can even see one of the chefs making the strudels. Elegant interior and service is the just the icing on the cake

We came here for the famous Strudel, but ended up having also the most exquisite lunch! I am very picky with food, didn’t have any expectations, but it was absolutely delicious! I will recommend this place to everyone and definitely will be coming back when in Budapest !!

We had a 3 course menu and it was so delicious! I especially enjoyed the sweet raspberry strudel with cottage cheese - absolute delight! Service is exceptional. Atmosphere is also very pleasant. Though the ventilation inside is terrible. It’s both hot and smelling oil, so consider that your outfit will have that smell afterwards 😅

We stumbled upon this cute spot and were pleasantly surprised. Had coffee and strudel—both were good and hit the spot. The interior design was fantastic: cozy, stylish, and full of character. We didn’t try the full menu, so no comment on the food, but the vibe alone makes it worth a visit.

We only tried the strudel and it was tasty as aspected. Before i got there I heard about the live making of strudel so i hoped i could see it in live action. Our timing was great cause we had a desk besides the baking area and a pretty good view at the scenario. It was a pretty short experience cause he made the strudel like in 2 min but i think it was totally worth it. I would recommend the strudel with vanilla ice cream. 950 Ft + 850 Ft is totally fine for a tourist stop.

Overrated place, had much tastier strudel and goulash in other much less expensive places in Budapest. Place is very crowded, service is slow and prices are big for what they offer. Nice interior, clean, no reservations needed. All in one a 4!

Just had dinner at this place tonight. Fantastic! Had the pork stew and it might have been my favourite meal ever. Service was amazing. Nick (i hope that’s his name!) and Antonio looked after our table impeccably. Highly recommend!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Strudel House in Budapest is absolutely wonderful! The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, and the food is simply delicious. I especially want to thank Péter, our waiter — he was incredibly kind, attentive, and truly made our experience unforgettable. He’s the best! Highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Budapest.

New York Café, a Neo-Baroque establishment dating back to 1894, has a rich history as a gathering place for Hungarian writers and poets. Despite being partially destroyed during World War II and later nationalized by the communist regime, it was restored to its former glory in 2006 by the Boscolo Group. The café's opulent interior features stunning frescoes by renowned Hungarian painters from the 19th century, along with intricate marble floors and gilded decorations.
A wonderful experience from start to finish. The atmosphere, the staff, the architecture, and the presentation of the food and drinks were all exceptional. Although I’ve seen mixed reviews about wait times and service, I must say the wait was quick, and every member of the team was fantastic. I visited solo and was truly impressed. The piano player not only displayed impressive skill but also had an incredibly charismatic presence. I can’t wait to return, this time with my partner!

I went to New York Cafe in Budapest to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday, and it was honestly a terrible experience. I spoke with the waiter beforehand to bring a dessert with a candle after we finished our meal. After eating, we waited a very long time, watching other tables get cakes with candles while nothing came to ours. I went to another waiter to remind him about the dessert — he said okay, but again, nothing happened. Eventually, we asked for the bill, and guess what? The dessert was added to it even though it never arrived. I told them I wouldn’t pay for something that was never brought, and only then did a lady finally come with the dessert — with the candle already blown out — and asked my boyfriend if it was his birthday. Seriously, who does that? It completely ruined the moment. We waited forever, the food was not worth the hype, and the service was unbelievably poor. I understand it’s a busy place, but that just shows what happens when there’s no competent management. Definitely not worth even one star.

Our experience at New York Café Budapest was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment we walked in, the ambience felt absolutely extravagant; ornate, elegant, and breathtaking in every detail. It truly lives up to its reputation as one of the most beautiful cafés in the world. The service was amazing, seamless, and consistently attentive. A special mention goes to Tundi, whose friendliness and attentiveness elevated the entire experience. She made us feel genuinely welcome and went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect. Her warm personality and professionalism are a credit to the café. If you’re looking for a place where world-class ambience meets exceptional service, New York Café Budapest is unmatched. Absolutely unforgettable.

My mom & I visited the café on two different days, and both experiences were absolutely wonderful. The stunning interior and elegant atmosphere make it a must-visit in Budapest it truly feels like dining inside a palace! On our first day, Gergely, who attended to us was very professional and composed. I believe he’s one of the managers, and his presence and attention to detail made a great impression On our second day, we were warmly attended by Stefi, who was always smiling, attentive, and genuinely kind. Her positive energy made our visit extra special. The food, coffee, and desserts were excellent, but it’s really the staff. If you're lucky enough to be served by Stefi you're in for a treat! 🌟

The place is quite touristy, and even on a late weekday evening there was still a short queue. Despite its large size with at least two floors, it was packed, and the tables felt very close together. The interior is undeniably beautiful, though it could use better maintenance and cleanliness. As expected, the menu items are on the pricey side. I’m not complaining since we’re tourists ourselves, but it’s probably not the best choice if you’re after a relaxed atmosphere.

Stunning Setting with Room for Service Improvement New York Café is one of the most beautiful cafés in the world, with a breathtaking interior that feels like stepping into a palace. The location is excellent, right in the heart of Budapest, and it’s absolutely worth visiting for the atmosphere alone. The food is good, though not exceptional, and the service could be better. The staff seem quite used to the constant flow of tourists, so the experience can feel a bit rushed or impersonal at times. Still, it’s a must-see spot for its incredible architecture and history. If you go, take your time to enjoy the surroundings, it’s an unforgettable place to have coffee or dessert, even if the service isn’t as polished as the setting.

During a city break with the girlies, we booked a table through their website (totally recommend). Everything went smoothly, no waiting in line and we even got the best table on the balcony. We loved the beautiful design, the live music, and the food was fantastic (I had the Gulyás — the best I’ve ever tasted). A special thanks to Teodora for her amazing service. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Initially we were allocated in this annex room down the bottom. It was very disappointing as you can’t even hear the music. My review would have been 1 star. Luckily I decided to speak to the manager and we were kindly moved to the upper room where the experience met the expectation and I had the most amazing blueberry cheesecake coup hearing the music and seeing the musicians. The experience downstairs was terrible. Forgotten with the underdogs. It’s impossible to have a great experience there as you will be saddened by the prices in a regular room. In my opinion that room should not be used unless they put a musician playing down there. Even the food felt average whilst we sat there. Life was different on the upper floor and I strongly reccomend you to complain about your seat in case you are taken to the dark room far from the magic. We had an amazing experience and it was worth every cent once sat on the upper level. I would definetely return.

The Central Market Hall in Budapest is a restored neogothic hall that offers a diverse shopping and dining experience. The ground floor features grocery produce, including Hungarian paprika, fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese, meat, pastries, wine, chocolate, and jams. On the first floor, visitors can find souvenirs and various food stands offering a wide range of culinary delights. This three-story market is an ideal place to shop for local goods while enjoying lunch and picking up souvenirs.
The building was designed and built by Samu Pecz in 1897. The market offers a wide variety of stalls on three floors. The entrance gate has a neo-Gothic touch. A special architectural feature is the roof, which was renovated with colorful Zsolnay tiles from Pécs. The building is 10,000 square meters in size and is covered with a steel structure. During the Second World War, the market was heavily damaged. It was not until 1991 that a thorough renovation was undertaken, which restored it to its original splendor. The building was reopened in 1997, and in 1999 it was awarded the FIABCI Prix d'Excellence. The Central Market is still one of the city's most popular tourist attractions. Most of the stalls on the ground floor offer produce, meat, pastries, sweets, spices and spirits. You can find paprika spice, Tokaj wine, Túró Rudi, kolbász sausages and salamis there. On the second mezzanine floor there are restaurants and stalls selling tourist souvenirs. In the basement there are fishmongers, stalls with selected vegetables and a few specialized butchers.

It is a pleasant location to explore and capture memorable photographs. The scenery offers ample opportunities for creative compositions and stunning visuals. Although the surroundings are beautiful, the dining experience could be improved. Hopefully, future visits will bring enhancements to the culinary offerings. Overall, it remains a lovely place to visit.

We visited the market hall on a Sunday and were really impressed. The building itself is beautiful, and there are many different stalls offering local delicacies. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the people were very friendly. The only downside was that, since it was Sunday, some of the stalls were closed. Because of that, I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5. Still, it’s definitely worth a visit!

It is the largest indoor market in Budapest, located at one end of the famous Váci utca. It is located in a building whose facade is built in a neo-Gothic style, very pleasing to the eye and in harmony with the architecture of the neighboring buildings. Inside, on the ground floor you will find many shops with local cold cuts, dairy, wines and other products. In the basement is the fish market. You can reach the upper level by several stairs but also by an escalator, located in close proximity of the main entrance. Access to the shops on the first floor is along corridors that look like balconies. Here are numerous gift/souvenir shops but also the Fakánal Etterem restaurant, which, if you want to taste the flavors of traditional Hungarian food, you must definitely make a stop. We did and we did not regret it. At lunchtime, when we arrived, we had to be a little patient to get to the desired menu, but it was worth it. I treated myself with a goulash soup and a portion of stuffed cabbage rolls. Everything was very tasty. I consider this place to be recommended to visit.

The Central Market Hall in Budapest is a wonderful place to explore if you want to experience local Hungarian culture in one spot. The market is housed inside a beautiful, well-organised historic building that feels lively but not chaotic. Everything is neatly arranged, and it’s easy to navigate through the different sections. You can find plenty of authentic Hungarian products here — from fresh local vegetables and spices to handmade crafts and souvenirs. There are also food stalls offering traditional dishes, so you can enjoy a snack or meal right inside the market while soaking in the atmosphere. The vendors are friendly and take pride in their products, making the experience feel genuine rather than touristy. There’s a good mix of local shoppers and visitors, which adds to its charm. The market also has clean, paid toilet facilities, which is convenient if you plan to spend more time browsing. Whether you’re looking for paprika, embroidered linens, or just a good place to people-watch, the Central Market Hall offers it all. It’s an enjoyable and colourful stop that captures the real spirit of Budapest in a single building.

Lots of fresh food of all varieties, including meat, vegetables and baked goods. Paprika of every flavor and size. Goodies to eat and souvenirs for the trip home. It can be very crowded so have some patience. Many of the vendors are closed on Sunday, especially the fresh food vendors.

A traditional and interesting market to visit in Budapest. It’s worth checking out for its architecture and the variety of local products like spices, wines, and embroidered goods. It’s also a nice spot to buy souvenirs, but prices tend to be a bit higher, especially at the shops near the entrance.
Luana B — Google review
Architecture wise it’s a beautiful building and so we only spent a few minutes inside as the numerous market stalls didn’t really appeal to us. You can however find various stalls to suit various tastes from meats, fish and other food stalls to more traditional Hungarian shops. There were also a number of restaurants inside.

Gundel Cafe Patisserie Restaurant, located in City Park, has a rich history dating back to 1894. Under the ownership of Karoly Gundel since 1910, it has become an internationally renowned venue for Hungarian and French gastronomy. The restaurant is famous for its classic dishes as well as its own unique recipes such as Paloc soup, Somlo-style sponge cake, and the iconic Gundel crepe.
Every visit to Budapest feels incomplete without a stop at Gundel. The restaurant has preserved its timeless elegance, allowing guests to step back into the refined atmosphere of the early 20th century. The cuisine is exquisite — each dish prepared with care and rich in flavor — and the service is consistently attentive and professional. Prices are very reasonable for the quality offered. Dining here is not only a culinary delight but also a journey into history.

Lovely place to have a beautiful dinner. Perfectly situated for a walk to zoo, park area or hero’s square. The traditional but upscale cuisine was very delicious. I’ve decided the Hungarian’s are the best soup makers. It was a nice meal with some service hiccups. The waiter did not have the best grasp of the English language and that was fine, but our glasses of libations were left empty for a while before refilling and our empty serving plates were slow to be taken. A couple of waiters noticing were quick to remedy the young waiter and waitress errors. Live music was divine. Definitely a good choice.

Oh my - I’m always cautious of places like these on the basis that they are simply trading on their name after all this time but I couldn’t not have been more wrong! The food was superb but what absolutely made our evening was how expertly Béla guided us through the wine menu and recommended us a bespoke Hungarian wine flight that both matched our preferred wines and our courses. This guy needs to move towards becoming a sommelier as his knowledge was superb. Thanks for a wonderful last evening in Budapest!

I visited Gundel with my mother during our trip to Budapest, as I wanted to treat her to a special dinner. The restaurant’s strong reviews, elegant atmosphere, and reputation for great food made it an easy choice and it certainly lived up to expectations. From the moment we arrived, the service was outstanding. We were warmly welcomed and guided to our table, and throughout the evening the staff were attentive, friendly, and helpful with recommendations whenever we were unsure. The restaurant itself is beautiful and classy, creating the perfect setting for a memorable evening. I started with an Espresso Martini served in a cappuccino-style cup—a creative and delightful touch. For dinner, we chose the meal + starter/soup option. The staff kindly went above and beyond by serving us two bowls of soup rather than asking us to share one, which was a small but very thoughtful gesture. The goulash soup, in particular, was outstanding - tender meat and incredible flavor. Every dish we tried was excellent, and we truly enjoyed the whole dining experience. The only element I personally wasn’t fond of was the live band walking around the tables asking for money after playing. While some guests may enjoy it, I felt it was a bit out of place in such a refined setting. That said, our evening at Gundel was absolutely wonderful. Both the food and the service were exceptional, and I would happily return. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Budapest!

An outstanding lunch between visiting the museum. Old world elegance, the ambiance is part of the experience. Music was excellent. We ordered their multi-course meal, which was a lot of food. The food was delicious, everything well presented. Very popular, so reserve ahead.

Gundel is a classic. You feel it the moment you walk in – the chandeliers, the music, the sense of history. Few places carry that kind of presence. The food was wonderful. The foie gras was deep and balanced, the dessert refined and rich. Everything about the kitchen feels confident and precise. The head waitress was excellent – calm, professional and genuinely attentive. But the choreography of the service wasn’t quite in sync. The rhythm slipped here and there, and in a place like Gundel that flow is part of the experience. Still, it’s an extraordinary restaurant. When it all aligns, you’re reminded why this house has become part of Budapest’s story.

Highly recommended! We visited during Restaurant Week and enjoyed a 3-course meal for just 10,900 HUF. Everything was delicious, especially the chicken soup — it’s the best I’ve ever had.

We visited Gundel twice—first for cake and coffee, which was so delicious and beautifully presented that we booked a table for dinner to celebrate our anniversary. The woman at the front desk gave us a fantastic table (Paul Newman!) and made us feel truly special. The service was some of the best we’ve ever experienced—warm, professional, and attentive without being overbearing. The dinner exceeded all expectations, and the live music created a magical atmosphere. An unforgettable experience from start to finish!

Gettó Gulyás is a unique and trendy stew place located near the Dohany Street Synagogue in Budapest. The restaurant offers 14 different types of stews, including unconventional options like gizzard and rooster testicle stew, alongside traditional Hungarian delicacies such as bean and mushroom stews. Gulyás, also known as the national dish of Hungary, is a must-try when visiting Budapest.
This place was incredible and the highlight of our visit. I recommend booking in advance. From the moment we arrived the staff were so wonderful. It’s a great space - modern clean decor with a touch of quirky old world charm. Seating is available outside on the sidewalk but we definitely preferred the interior seating and atmosphere. The menu was amazing with so many traditional dishes to choose from. Every single dish was not only beautifully presented but tasted superb. If you’re overwhelmed then just ask the staff to recommend a few things- you can’t go wrong. Local Hungarian wines are such great value and absolutely sensational - highly recommend trying one. Dessert was a perfect sweet finish. Wow, what a place! I can’t recommend this place more highly. Absolute must try.

Had such a lovely evening in Gettó Gulyás. The service was second to none and the food was excellent. The wine recommendation was perfect and suited each of our meals. The best meal I've had in Budapest so far (day 4). We got 3 out of the 4 available desserts and each one was better than the next. Absolutely delicious. Long island ice tea will blow your head off, too strong and smoky. But the hugo was 😘👌🏻. Class

I went to this restaurant on the recommendation of a friend who lives in Budapest, and I’m so glad I did. He advised me to make a reservation since the place is very popular, and that turned out to be excellent advice—the restaurant was busy, but welcoming. I started with something unusual: cucumbers with sour cream. It may sound simple, but it was absolutely delicious, especially paired with the fresh bread that came alongside. For my next course, I had a pancake filled with tender veal pieces and vegetables in a flavorful sauce—astounding in both taste and presentation. I paired it with a glass of their Cabernet, which was rich and smooth. For my main course, I had veal with buttered noodles. The noodles were uniquely wrapped in a circle of bacon, adding both flavor and creativity to the dish. Everything was cooked to perfection. The atmosphere is warm and cozy—lively and a bit loud, but still comfortable for conversation. The service was outstanding, and the interior design had so much detail that added to the charm and coziness of the space. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Budapest. It’s a memorable dining experience, and I’m already hoping to return before I leave.

Definitely recommend checking this place out!

Perfectly paired with the bread.

Love that very beautiful Grand cafe. Very well managed, excellent service, delicious food, beautiful decor. Even the bathroom area is very beautiful. We went there 3 time, excellent breakfast with musicians who played from 10am. Indoor is so georgous and the outdoor terrace is so nice to sit at. I prefer this Cafe than some of most historical cafes recommended in Vienna, so bravo Budapest 👏. When in Budapest you must visit.

We very much enjoyed our Sunday brunch experience at the Centrál Grand Cafe. The food choices were incredible. All four of us ordered different things and were extremely happy with our selections. The entrees were very well prepared and presented beautifully. Desserts were exquisite! When I took the first bite of my pistachio raspberry torte I declared it “heaven on a plate”. The atmosphere was greatly enhanced by live music provided by a talented cellist and pianist. Laci, our server, was so friendly, offered suggestions, made sure we were happy and was one of the best waiters we experienced in Budapest. While the New York Cafe has a lavish atmosphere, I preferred the Centrál Grand Cafe: food, choices of drinks, service, music, wait time, noise level, space for tables, and prices were all significantly better.

Amazing cafe in the center of Budapest. Our server Laci was very attentive and caring while we were having our desserts. We tried the Hungarian dessert set and it was very deliccious. Complimentary prosecco was also very nice. But, the waitress/server who greeted us at the front seemed very exhausted and took a very big noticeable sigh while taking us to the table. Other than that, everything was nice.

Molnár's kürtőskalács, also known as chimney cakes, have a rich history dating back to Hungarian settlers in Transylvania. These cylindrical pastries are a beloved traditional treat often associated with celebrations and special occasions. Today, they can be found throughout Budapest, with vendors showcasing the baking process on the streets.
Chimney Cake (Kürtőskalács) [4.5/5] 🍞 Food Super addictive—I couldn’t stop tearing off strip after strip. The thin, glossy crust isn’t too sweet and gives way to a soft, slightly chewy, airy inside. You get a light sweetness from the crust and a gentle yeasty note from the center. Tip: enjoy half while it’s fresh from the oven, then have the other half after it’s rested for a few hours or overnight—you’ll get two different experiences. ➕ Toppings Tried almond, walnut, and cinnamon. None were overpowering; they added a nice small boost to the flavor. 👀 Experience Fun to watch it being made in the open kitchen. ✅ Verdict Strongly recommended!

Nice place to sit and relax while enjoying the best chimney cake in Budapest. Each empty chimney cake cost 2.2K Forint. They're good enough to eat as it is, no need the filling of ice cream or other stuff. The cafe has comfy seats and also clean toilet which my kid happily used for big biz.

Very nice place where to sit and taste a delicious chimney in Budapest! We tryed the pistacchio chimney and it was so delicious! We really liked seeing the preparation of chimneys happening in front of us and here the product are 100% fresh. The chimney was big compared to others and the price was very good. We really like it!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ If you’re in Budapest and want to try a truly authentic kürtőskalács, Molnár’s Kürtőskalács is unbeatable. This was by far the best one I’ve had in the city, the dough is soft, warm, and perfectly caramelized on the outside. What really sets it apart, though, is the ice cream. Unlike the artificial, low-quality ice cream you often find at other spots, this one is creamy, rich, and absolutely delicious. The combination with the kürtőskalács is heavenly and makes it a must-visit for anyone with a sweet tooth. Definitely a highlight of my Budapest trip!
Sabrina V — Google review
While strolling around the city, we noticed lots of people holding these big, delicious looking ice cream cones and decided to give it a try. It was our first time eating it, and we didn’t really know what to expect, but it was amazing! The vanilla ice cream was creamy and milky, really smooth and tasty. But the real star was the chimney cake cone itself. Soft, slightly sweet, and warm, eating it on its own is already a treat, and with the ice cream, it’s next level delicious. If you’re in Belgium, don’t miss trying this, it’s fun to eat and absolutely worth it!

The pistachio chimney cake was 10/10. It was hot and warm when they served it. The almond chimney cake was tasty but the pistachio chimney cake with pistachio cream was the best for me. 10/10 warm and resently out of the oven.

DesszertNeked, located in District VI, is a delightful bakery and cafe known for its cheerful atmosphere and elegant French and Hungarian desserts. The bright and airy interior provides the perfect setting to enjoy mouthwatering treats like French-style mousses, macarons, or contemporary takes on classic Hungarian cakes such as rakoczi turos and zserbo.
Every cake tells another story. They are not too sweet so you can actually taste and enjoy each flavor. Interior is specious and clean with big windows. It is a very nice touch that the kitchen is divided from the bar with one big window so you can see where all magic happens. Definitely worth the visit.

Nice place, it wasn't too busy around 5 PM on a weekday. Not cheap, but not tourist trap expensive and the cakes we had were pretty good. The raspberry musical (málnás musical) is delicious!

🇺🇸A really tidy well decorated place near to Gozsdu where you have the opportunity to catch up with a friend or it’s perfect for a date. I visited between the holidays so they still had the Christmas decorations everywhere. When you enter you have to order first then choose a cozy spot. The couch is comfortable and the bathroom is clean. And the most important details…the cakes are delicious 🤤 and not just incredible creatively presented. Overall a great experience. So don’t missed while you’re visiting Budapest.

Coffee and macaroons are good enough. Cakes look cute but I didn't taste them. I had to wait a long to order. The people behind me in line just left. One barista, of course, is not enough. The interior is cool, especially in Helloween time 👻
M K — Google review
The place is really cute and cozy, I'd love it even more in winter, it gives worm vibes. We went there to have brunch basically, and tasted a few of their patisserie selection. The macaroons were delicious, the rest of the sweets were nice. I was expecting a bit more, but they were a bit too sweet or not as flavorful as I thought. Nothing mind blowing. The Caramel dessert was too sweet, a bit too much for my tasting. The service was nice and kind. Overall desserts were okay but not the best, but still worth it I think. My favorites were the macaroons, very very tasty, and the dessert resembling a pie with the red thing on it and the pistacchio (it doesn't taste of pistacchio at all), it was the mist surprising and flavorful!
Alessia R — Google review
The place is really big, and the seats are comfortable with beautiful decorations. The workers are nice and helpful. Their desserts are delicious with beautiful designed. The coffee was also quite good with good amount and fair price. There has many different desserts I hope that I will be able to try all of them soon. A good dessert coffee place to visit when you are in Budapest.

My favorite cafe at Budapest Amazing food which is not expensive at all (each dessert cost about 4€, and 1€ for macaroon) The staff were also very friendly, especially Dora and Sara Perfect place for people who wants to feel at Paris every morning while they are eating a breakfast at Budapest

Nándori Cukrászda is a beloved traditional pastry shop located in the 9th District of Budapest, offering a delightful selection of classic Hungarian cakes, tarts, savory biscuits, marzipan figurines, and ice cream. Established in 1957, this popular neighborhood joint is frequented by locals and visitors alike. The cozy café with wooden tables provides a charming setting to savor their delicious offerings.
We were here on the 31st of December, there was a long queue outside the confectionery and a lady stepped out with hot tea for those waiting in the cold. Once inside, the place became cosy and warm, we bought 7 cake varieties and I can tell you it was worth the wait. I also recommend the Hungarian pogácsa, a salty nugget, the best I've ever had! We'll be coming back for sure!
Robert B — Google review
Ordered a cake for birthday from here and it was beautiful and delicious too. The mousse cream was delicious, the only thing is that for a mousse cake I would expect slightly more cream inside. You can sit outside, which is great, and the inside is very nicely decorated too, will definitely visit for coffee and dessert too!
Krisztina S — Google review
It's a small patisserie, but it's famous for its delicious cakes. Self-service: pick your favorite item and pay for it. Sit wherever you like and enjoy the delicious cakes.
Ömer K — Google review
While I loved their cakes, especially the Somlói galuska and mákos-meggyes pite (I LOVE everything poppy seed that’s very hard to get in NY) I can’t get past the poor customer service. Reviews mention ill treatment of foreigners, rest assured, they treat their Hungarian speaking customers just as poorly. I ordered three slices of cake and some pogácsa, the lady serving us spectacularly rolled her eyes after plating each item. Quality is great, sweets are absolutely worth the calories but you just sort of lose your appetite when treated with such apathy.
Adrienn K — Google review
Desserts were absolutely outstanding and tasty, and so was the coffee. However the service was very slow and we waited for over 25 minutes for our order which was not convenient. The interior or the restaurant is very beautiful though but also very loud.
Eliška H — Google review
I’ll start saying that the coffe and the cakes are pretty good and tasty. 1 star for the behavior of the staff when I called to order a cake to surprise my girlfriend with her favorite cake. I called Wednesday morning to prepaire a cake until Friday afternoon and the answer was negative that I should make the order one week earlier. I was so sad about it,Nevermind I asked Hungarian friend to call and she could make the order of the cake for the same day I previously asked. So my question is that you are accepting orders only from Hungarians ? This is so unprofessional behavior.
Ermes S — Google review
We visited Nándori Cukrászda on a Saturday and ordered the krémes sós karamellás and somlói, both of which were absolutely delicious. However, there was quite a long queue, which is understandable for a popular spot on the weekend. Although tables become available relatively quickly, we noticed that no one had time to clean them in between customers. This was a significant downside, as we had to enjoy our desserts surrounded by dirty plates from previous guests. The place itself is beautiful, and the cakes are of high quality, but unfortunately, it lacks atmosphere. While the desserts are worth a visit, a bit more attention to cleanliness and ambiance would enhance the overall experience.
Anna J — Google review
Everything is perfect! The atmosphere is great, warm; staff are friendly. There was a queue but it went fast. The prices are okay coffee is cheaper compared to other places in the neighborhood. There is nothing to say for desserts, delicious! I’ll definitely try each of them.

Aran Bakery in Budapest is a charming establishment founded by a Hungarian couple with a passion for travel and baking. Their global adventures have influenced the diverse range of bread and pastries available, drawing inspiration from Irish, French, American, and Hungarian culinary traditions. The bakery's signature sourdough bread, crafted with a starter named Paddy from Dublin, is a standout offering.
The best croissant of my life to date. The taste is amazing, and very fresh.. This is not a cafe, the seating is limited and the space is small, but the quality of their pastries is excellent. Highly recommended
Negin — Google review
Arán Bakery offers a wide variety of pastries, breads, cafe and sandwiches with fast service and a stylish, modern vibe. It can get very busy, especially in the mornings. While the selection is impressive, the sandwich with chicken I had came with very hard bread—tough to chew and not the most enjoyable. Great for a quick stop, but some items may be more style than comfort. Decent prices in good location, overall recommend it!
Maria A — Google review
A lovely corner bakery with all kinds of baked goods and bread and you could get. The coffee are also super delicious. Seatings are limited but if you want to grab and go, definitely a perfect spot for that. We got the iced dirty chai, flat white, a cruffin, a cinnamon bun, and orange juice. Everything was great. We ended up revisiting a couple days later.
Khattiya C — Google review
We went to Arán for breakfast and tried their famous cinnamon roll, another pastry, and a latte — all of which were really good. There’s a small seating area, and although there was a queue, it moved quite fast. A lovely spot for a quick and tasty breakfast!

Nestled in the picturesque City Park of Budapest, right next to the Capital Circus, you'll discover Édes Mackó, a charming chimney cake shop that stands out as the only place in the city serving this traditional treat roasted over charcoal throughout the year. This delightful family-run business, operated by Vitez Kurtos, hails from Szekely Land—the birthplace of chimney cake.
The only place that I found who served gluten-free chimney cake and it's delicious. And the regular version is by far the best chimney cake in Budapest. Located next to the zoo.
Daniel B — Google review
I recently tried the chimney cake from the cafe, and it was a delightful experience! Freshly made in just 10 minutes, each flavor was a treat. I sampled the pistachio, chocolate, and apricot, and all were incredibly delicious—rich and satisfying. The variety offered is impressive, making it hard to choose just one. The price is reasonable for such a quality dessert, but I did find the paper costing nearly 600 HUF a bit unfriendly. Overall, though, the chimney cake is definitely worth trying for anyone with a sweet tooth! Highly recommended!

Definitely a must try even if you are not a fan of Kürtőskalács, they have a remarkable amount of varieties so you can taste them the way you like the most, price is not cheap, however considering the product and the results it is worthy, specially if you consider you can easily pay the same amount for average or disappointing ones on the city center.

This was by far the best chimney cake we had in Budapest! Staff was very nice and friendly and our chimney cake was done very fast. It is freshly made in front of you and it is so soft and tasty. We also had coffee which was also delicious. We are definitely coming back again! Greetings from Split 😊

Nice and cozy little café with outdoor seating. I ordered a chimney cake with pistachio and an iced coffee. The cake was really good, filled with plenty of chocolate, but the coffee wasn’t great — it tasted mostly like milk. The staff were friendly.
Steffie G — Google review
We chose vanilla outside, with nutella filling inside. It was sweet and good, and has a good atmosphere. Honestly i would say its overrated and that the local or smaller vendors/shops sell better chimney cake. Right opposite from Pichler on vaci street, if you walk a bit you will see a smaller more local shop, its where i loved it. I got the coconut outside with nutella filling inside, it was soo warm and nice. I woud reccomend getting a filling inside, otherwise it feels dry and doughy.
Arisa S — Google review
I am a big fan of chimney cakes. So of course I had to have one while in Budapest. It was really good - however, I’ve had better ones in Poland (more fluffy) although it’s a Hungarian dessert. Maybe it’s because these ones were vegan? I’m not sure. I tried the one with pistachio cream - and that was really good! So overall 4/5. I would try next time to go for a chimney cake place that isn’t vegan.

Best place to try the chimney cake , it was freshly baked so you eat it fluffly & warm . We ordered vanilla cake with hazelnut filling it was so lovely but very sweet & you get thirsty for that especially in the hot summer season We also got ice cream & it was very fresh & nice Ordered oat milk latte but cold with ice because the weather is very hot and I really enjoyed it Staff are friendly , place is clean & they have toilet but I did not check it

Tried the pistachio chimney cake with Nutella and it was absolutely delicious! 😋 The dough was warm and soft, the pistachio coating was generous, and the Nutella inside made it even more indulgent. Also, the portion was surprisingly big — definitely enough to satisfy your sweet tooth! The place is clean and cozy, with a modern look and friendly staff. A perfect stop for anyone craving a fresh, tasty twist on a classic Hungarian treat. 🍩

Tried the chimney cone with pistachio ice cream and was disappointed. The ice cream was way too salty, and the cone, while freshly baked, wasn’t served warm and fresh like I expected after reading reviews. For the price, it really wasn’t worth it. Császármorzsa, also known as Kaiserschmarrn, is a delightful treat that has gained popularity in Ujuda. This place offers both the minced and crumbly versions of this Austrian pancake-like dish, allowing customers to customize it with or without raisins, along with options like jam, applesauce, and powdered sugar coating.
We had soups and Császármorzsa with Jam and raisins. Simple, clean, tasty, above all reasonably priced. Such a gem, I would recommend it to tourists and locals alike!
D P — Google review
Actually it was quite disappointing. I really wanted a freshly made császármorzsa but I realised that everything is ready and they just reheating the desserts. I sat down at the terrace but god knows where can you sit if it is cold outside since the place is tiny... Less portion, less prices (too big for a dessert).
Borbély P — Google review
Amazing and rare place (with equally lovely owners and staff) if you wish to have a little time for yourself or a well-overdue catch up with friends at an excellent location, enjoying the different types of kaiserschmarrn and more! Cannot recommend it enough! 5 stars through and through!
Anett K — Google review
Really nice place with good csaszarmorzsa! Well worth the visit if you would like to try some proper csaszarmorzsa!
Mike F — Google review
Pros: The staff is really nice and the császármorzsa/kaiserschmarrn is delicious. There is a small garden to sit, which has a cozy atmosphere. Cons: Today we also had a sandwich and soups. The sandwich was made of a cheap, stale bread, and although it was heated, it was really dry. The salad on the side had no dressing (oil/vinegar/salt) and therefore served no purpose for me (maybe the salad should be put in the bread?). The soups were mostly bland, lacked salt, and mine (beetroot and apple) tasted particularly strange and not at all like the ingredients they were made from. These did not worth the price at all. Also, disposable plates and cutlery... I know that sometimes this is the only option, but it makes me sad to generate this amount of waste during a single lunch. Overall, I think the place is worth visiting, but ONLY for the császármorzsa.

If you're in Budapest during the holiday season, make sure to visit the Christmas markets and festivals to try the traditional chimney cakes known as Street Cakes. Originating from Transylvania, these oversized kurtoskalacs cakes are baked over an open fire and coated with a variety of flavors such as cinnamon, freeze-dried blueberry, or dried ginger.
Such an awesome place. The workers are really friendly and the place is very cozy. The chimney cakes were so delicious omg. Tip: instead of a syrup topping, get a nutella filling, totally worth it.

We went in search for this place which, to be honest, wasn’t as good as I had envisioned. After seeing lost of people trying it out we figured it must be really good. It took quite a while to get our desserts to arrive and when they did the ice cream had already started to melt. I ended up trying to eat an almost empty casing with a pool of ice cream gathering at the bottom. They also got my boyfriends order wrong, however they did offer to make him a new one so great customer service in that front. Nice place with friendly staff, but maybe not worth rushing across town for.

Small place but with a great flavor. It's my favorite for a real kurtos with icecream. The staff, 2 beautiful girls, were helpful and kindly.

Chimney cakes are not usually filled, but here they offer you the chance to create a custom chimney. The ice cream is ok, the cake is also ok. It's worth a try, but I prefer the normal type of chimney cake.

Hanna M — Google review
It was okay. It looked very pretty, but the ice cream quality wasn't great, and the cakes were bland and a bit stale. I didn't expect them to be hot because the ice cream would melt, but they just weren't great. Slightly overpriced for what you get, but it makes for a nice picture.

Chimney Cake Budapest, also known as kurtoskalacs, is a traditional Hungarian dessert that features a caramelized crust and a soft, chewy interior. The dough is wrapped around a baking spit and cooked over charcoal. This sweet treat can be found at the Chimney Cake Shop in Kiraly street, close to Deak Ferenc square. In addition to the traditional version, they offer special varieties filled with ice cream that are lactose-free.
We got addicted to this chimney cake! Absolutely no ideia why the rate is so low but we had really warm and fresh chimney cakes every time.
Beatriz C — Google review
Very very cute place with swings inside for sitting. Girl at counter knew English well. The downside is the chimney cakes were very hard even when cooked fresh. They came out steaming hot but we're hard. Payed 2000 ft which was a bit overpriced. The chimneys in the metro were 100x better.
Mirko M — Google review
Chimney Cake Budapest is a nice spot to try this popular Hungarian treat. The cakes are usually pre-made, so the freshness and warmth can vary depending on when you get them. While they might not be piping hot every time, they still make for a tasty and enjoyable snack. The location is convenient and the staff are friendly, making it an easy stop if you want something sweet while exploring the city. The cakes have a good balance of crispy outside and soft inside, though there are definitely other places in Budapest where you can find chimney cakes that feel a bit fresher or more freshly baked. Overall, it’s a decent choice if you want a quick, sweet bite, but it’s not the absolute best chimney cake experience you can find. Four stars for a solid snack that’s convenient and pleasant, but there are better spots if you’re looking for top quality.
Emanuele F — Google review

We were looking forward to warm chimney cakes with different toppings but ended up with cold ones covered in just sugar. When we asked if we could choose a different topping for the chimney cake with whipped cream, we got a blunt "No." Our experience in Prague was way better—no matter where we tried them, the chimney cakes were always warm and delicious. But here, it was just a cold and not freshly made bun with sugar

I walked by and was hooked. I ordered a cone with vanilla ice cream and it was warm and delicious. The next day I came on purpose because I really enjoyed it last night. There were a lot of people and I told myself that my superior was right. I waited patiently and it was my turn. I asked for exactly what I had ordered the day before. Instead, the salesman made me chocolate ice cream. When I said he was wrong, he simply threw the cake in the trash and said he wouldn't sell it to me. According to the reviews, it turns out that this is the nature of their service!
Alexander K — Google review
Super quick service and cake was nice and warm - can’t complain! We had gone further up the street for chimney cake and they had ran out, so this definitely saved the day :)

Quite expensive and I don’t think the chimney cake was especially fresh. It certainly didn’t taste that way. Very sweet. You’re probably better off walking around a bit and finding one elsewhere. I saw one with much more reasonable prices near the train station.

Krémesház Cukrászda is a charming retro patisserie that offers delightful and affordable treats. The signature dessert features flaky pastry crust filled with luscious vanilla custard, reminiscent of a simplified Napoleon cake. Despite its unassuming appearance, the pastries are fresh and delicious, with just the right amount of sweetness. Additionally, the selection includes savory options like crunchy cheese and cumin sticks.
The Cream pastries here are fresh and delicious. The shop is quite inconspicuous to the regular eye as it's not on the tourist radar. But I've not had a cream puff pastry better than this.

We purchased the Esterházy torte and Hazi Krémes—both were absolutely delicious! And the beigs are perfect! And the Eszterház cake... In a word: a place of wonder, an oasis in today's world (Margit quarter)! As soon as I walk in the door, the espresso coffee with whipped cream is already prepared for me, because they know me! Paprika Vendéglő is a charming, rustic restaurant located on the outskirts of downtown Pest, near City Park. The cozy eatery features timber furniture and a homely atmosphere, offering traditional Hungarian dishes such as roast wild boar, fried chicken liver, stuffed cabbage, and brasso. Visitors can expect an authentic dining experience with meals that boast rich flavors and tender meat. While the restaurant may get busy, making a reservation in advance is recommended to secure a table due to its popularity.
When visiting budapest, this became one of my favourite resturant! The food portion was massive and such a great value for money. We found the food extremely delicious and it kept us full for the rest of the day. The homemade lemonade was excellent and really refreshing, making it perfect to have on a hot day :) The service was outstanding, suzannah provided an amazing service. She was so so helpful and had a wonderful smile (which is rare to find in Budapest). We felt very welcomed and happy to be dining here. Romona was also an excellent waitress who helped us with understanding the bill. The decor is very beautiful and unlike any other resturant I visited when in Budapest. It is also close to city park, so you can explore that after eating to! There were two female toilets which were very clean! Thank you so much for the lovely authentic Hungarian expeirence.

Very nice atmosphere. The two waitresses were super nice. The food was so delicious and top notch. My family loved it. It had something for everyone like vegetarians and vegan.

Amazing traditional restaurant. Great food and the atmosphere is amazing. We tried their goulash, paprikash, schnitzel and many more sides - all very delicious. Cucumber salad was EPIC and the potato croquettes are tasty. The red sauce they serve is so so good - I bought a bottle of it to take home with me. The ambience is very traditional and rustic. The staff are great. And there’s always a queue. Highly recommend a reservation in advance. It’s a must visit!

Amazing restaurant! The perfect introduction to Hungarian cuisine. Beautiful rustic space, warm and welcoming. They helped us a lot to choose dishes and everything was delicious! Friendly and polite staff Affordable prices, much cheaper than any other place we have visited so far. Worth a visit. Reservations required. We will definitely go back

We ordered Gulyásleves, Bélszín java négybors-mártással, sült karikaburgonyával and Bélszín java tejszínes vargányával, burgonyafánkkal, rizzsel. The meat dishes were excellent – tender and flavorful, highly recommended. The Gulyásleves was a bit disappointing: lukewarm, not very rich, and slightly fatty. The atmosphere is pleasant, they serve fresh food with bread and a spicy sauce. The service was good, and the staff speak English. We came very hungry and left full — the price for four people was quite reasonable.

From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted by a warm, rustic atmosphere steeped in Hungarian tradition — dark wood furnishings, embroidered tablecloths, and the smell of hearty cooking. The staff are friendly and efficient, putting you at ease even if you don’t speak Hungarian. We enjoyed some of the classic dishes — the goulash soup was rich and flavourful, generously portioned, and seasoned with that characteristic paprika punch. The mains were similarly generous: big servings, full of flavour and comfort. Prices are very fair for the quality and portion size, and it doesn’t feel overly touristy (though it is popular, so a reservation or being early helps).
Igor O — Google review
Very good food at reasonable prices for the area. Good portion (though not as big as what some other reviews said), with great taste. Cool traditional ambiance as well. Just felt the waiters were less attentive to us and less friendly compared to others. Maybe because we were Asian or couldn't speak Hungarian, or they thought we weren't going to spend as much. Just felt weird being ignored and spoken too quite rudely compared to the other tables, which the waiters were joking with and having conversation.
Lester S — Google review
I ordered the goulash with Hungarian dumplings from the beef menu — the portion was big and filling. Later, I noticed there’s another goulash listed elsewhere on the menu, which I didn’t see at first (I only saw another person eating it). Mine was the more expensive version, so it’s worth checking both before you order. I also tried menu #10 with grilled chicken (I didn’t really read the description, just showed the waitress a photo and she said it’s #10). A family member ordered it, and I actually liked it better than my goulash — it was good!

Frici Papa is a budget-friendly restaurant in Budapest that offers classic Hungarian dishes. It's highly recommended to tourists seeking authentic Hungarian cuisine. The menu includes goulash, chicken paprikas, and rakott krumpli. The daily menu is a popular choice for an affordable and filling meal. One of the standout dishes is the beef broth soup with cloud-like dumplings, which provides a cozy dining experience.
Great traditional restaurant serving Hungarian dishes. Food cooked to perfection and plenty of it. Nice beer available. Service was friendly and fast. Reasonably priced too so cheaper than nearby tourist type restaurants. Locals seem to use it which is always a good sign.

Very tasty and flavorful food at very affordable prices. The portions are okay — they could be a bit larger, but at least the quality is good. I highly recommend it.

If you want to relive some communist era atmoshere and taste the best, the most original Hungarian dishes, this is your destination number 1. You must stand in a line, as there is a line of foreigners and locals. But don't worry-- it will not be an eternal wait, just till the next table is open. And inside: cool 1980s-90s music (George Michael' s "Faith" was on when we sat down), plastic checkered (oil) cloth, full plates of typical local dishes. The staff is kind, polite, jokeful and full of understanding towards picky customers. Congratulations Frici Papa, we had a blast 💖 ❤️ 💙

We had a great experience at Frici Papa! The goulash with nokedli was delicious - rich, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The atmosphere is cozy and authentic, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. A great spot to enjoy traditional Hungarian food in Budapest!

Very elegant restaurant, I really liked it. I ordered chicken paprikash, and was recommended to order some rice on side, so food was nice aswell. But, when paying the bill, I was told %10 increase was applied to paprikash’s price. Also , note that they don’t have exchange for Euro so if you’re a cash carrier like me, either try to obtain some Forint or try to leave no need for exchange.

A place serving a collection of traditional Hungarian dishes. They also offer the menu of the day at an affordable price (2,500 HUF). The day menu is pretty basic, but it's still 3 courses and the atmosphere is really nice. I appreciated how kind every one of Frici Papa Team was. Would love to go back again :)

Good food with affordable prices. Wine goulash was fine, meat was delicate, although it was a little bit fatty. There is also bread served at the table, so it may be sufficient for the goulash. Meat with mushroom sauce was much better - as it was much lighter. We waited only for a couple of minutes to get in and then we also didn't wait long to get our food.

They serve sweet and savory, light and hearty meals all day long, following traditional recipes using natural ingredients without artificial products. Go to this restaurant for amazing food with a fun atmosphere, they have a live piano player most nights, if not every night. Best time to go is Friday, booking recommended. This restaurant must be one of the best I’ve been in a while. Our server was one of the nicest people I’ve met. He always checked on us and made sure everything was perfect for us. The food was simply delicious. We had a main course and a dessert which were not only very tasty but also well presented. The atmosphere in there is also great. There was a piano player that played all evening long and made our experience in this restaurant even better. I really recommend this restaurant but I would recommend to make a reservation.

Lukewarm food. Probably would have tasted good if they just took the time to heat up the food. I have never experienced this in a decent restaurant. You are right, that’s not 2 star. Only one. We had a fabulous lunch here. The food was delicious excellent with authentic Hungarian dishes made vegan. The portion size is also generous, which is nice, as we were extremely hungry! I had been here today for dinner. I'm not sure if this is intended to be a fine dining experience, but it felt like one in every way. Warm staff, quick service, delicious and satiating food and a cosy atmosphere. They have a crazy range of vegan desserts and pasteries (including Hungarian specialities) as well as a bunch of traditional hungarian stews, soups and kolozsvar — but all vegan! I ordered the Hungarian Bean Goulash Soup and a dobos tortazelet (desert), both of which are hungarian specialities. I would highly recommend to anyone who wants to have an authentic Hungarian culinary experience! The best part is that they're open even on Hungarian national holidays!

I travelled especially to try the Goulash soup, I called beforehand to ask whether to make a reservation- was told to come before 8:30 pm no reservation needed. I ordered the goulash soup and a few other dishes, it never arrived. Then I was told they didn’t order it and the kitchen was closed. I was not told beforehand they can’t provide it and I would have probably gone elsewhere as I travelled especially to try this soup. All I was told that they made a mistake. No compensation. Not much apology. I felt very disappointed, terrible service, I will not come back. The other dishes- cold zucchini pasta was not very impressive, the pizza was nice. We had to chase them for ice several times. I did not enjoy my visit and I will not return.
Yifat H — Google review
Very cute little cafe and restaurant serving a variety of food from vegan takes on classic Hungarian dishes to pad Thai, gyros and falafel. We had the sharing plate which meant we didn't have to choose from the extensive menu and could try a bit of everything and fill up on some protein. For those looking for a lighter bite there are zucchini noodles dishes and salads on offer too. Drinks are varied but I believe they may all be non-alcoholic. We had the virgin mojito. For those searching for a treat the cage has an incredible range of exquisite cakes and also a variety of ice cream. Service was impeccable. Background music was 90s hits via the saxophone which felt extremely retro but quite fun.

Művész Coffee House, also known as Artist Cafe, is a historic cafe established in 1898 located on Andrassy avenue. The cafe features high ceilings, huge mirrors, and chandeliers creating a bohemian atmosphere. It offers an outdoor terrace for people-watching and interior rooms adorned with ornate decorations and portraits of famous Hungarian cultural figures. The building's Neo-Renaissance facade adds to its charm.
In my opinion, when it comes to the design and atmosphere, there’s really no need for praise it’s a classic old design from 1898 that will definitely catch your eye. What mattered more to me, though, is that cafés with such a historic style, especially those popular with tourists, often don’t pay much attention to the quality of their pastries and drinks. Many times, tourists are so charmed by the beautiful setting that they don’t really focus on the quality Which, of course, is not a flaw it all depends on personal preference.. However, contrary to that expectation, the pastry and hot chocolate I ordered were truly good. The pistachio pastry was crisp with just the right amount of sweetness, and the hot chocolate was served at the right temperature with a well balanced chocolate flavor. The service was also fast and attentive.

歷史悠久的甜點店 早餐的部分就不用期待 還會等很久 A historic dessert shop. As for breakfast, don’t expect too much — you’ll have to wait, and wait a very, very long time. When I went to pay the bill, the first server made me wait 10 minutes and still didn’t bring it. So I asked another server — and waited another 10 minutes. I told a third one, and luckily, they brought it right away. For a moment, I feared I might never get out of that café. If you have plenty of time, this place isn’t a bad choice.

Excellent eggs with bacon, nice cappuccino, friendly service. I liked sitting outside but inside is pretty and without the traffic noise. We've had breakfast there several times. The tables outside are a little small, fine for one person, but tiny for two.

This patisserie is an absolute delight! Established in 1898, its rich history is beautifully reflected in the elegant and classic interior design — truly a place that transports you back in time while offering modern comfort. The coffee is outstanding — rich, aromatic, and served just right. But the real stars are their artisan pastries and baked goods. Each piece is crafted with clear attention to detail, flavor, and presentation. From delicate cakes to buttery croissants, everything is simply delicious and of the highest quality. A must-visit for anyone who appreciates fine patisserie in a charming, historic setting.

I felt like royalty in there. Such nice cakes, amazing amount of choices of drinks, not too much food but we are here for the CAKES. Amazing atmosphere, not too crowded but could get in the right time I can imagine. Nice staff, and the CAKES. So fresh and so good! And how they show you on the screen how some of them are made is just a little something I didn’t know I needed in a cafe. Amazing!
Ronja ( — Google review
As the café’s name suggests, they still have portraits of artists hanging on the walls. The interior is beautiful and they offer a wide selection of cakes that aren’t listed on the menu. Instead, you have to browse the spinning cake shelves and pick what you want, which makes for a fun little experience. The coffee tastes decent, nothing extraordinary, but good. The waitresses are helpful but aren’t the friendliest, but I get it, working in a fancy place probably makes them a little unapproachable.
Megan W — Google review
The place is nice even they could mantain the old style in a better way ( big screen in the main salon..) and the service a bit slow, it took 20 min before coming for the order. The cakes are good but not excelent.

The Hauer bakery and coffee house is a well preserved old-world institution that offers delicious vegan food. It can be a challenge to find restaurants that are clearly marked vegan-friendly, but with a little effort the experience can be enjoyable. In addition to the wonderful food, the atmosphere of this cafe is warm and inviting.
My wife and I visited Budapest back in December and found this place through a food tour. The staff is friendly and exceptional at their job. The desserts are like nothing else we have ever had. A hidden gem of a coffeehouse with an interesting history and tasty desserts. It is really cheap compared with the touristic cafe New York, but the quality of drinks and cakes is really high, in my opinion. Every time we came there, there were some locals in the cafe. And that is the proof enough for me. Highly recommended!

Bank3 Palacsinta Bár is a downtown eatery in Budapest that offers a wide variety of Hungarian crepes, known as palacsinta. These thin pancakes can be enjoyed with sweet fillings like fruit jams, turo cheese, Nutella, walnut cream, and chocolate sauce. For those who prefer savory options, the menu includes fillings such as ham, cheese, vegetables, and sour-cream.
Shout out this place to Palacsinta lover! One of the best Hungarian pancakes (palacsinta). The dough is ideal soft gooey textures. Personally, would prefer sweet especially anything with Nutella instead of their savory ( both are great, just personal opinion). Come in big portions, can even share for two 😂 Love this place, came for 3-4 times already. Will come even more, when craving good pancakes :)

We ate there today, took 4 different meals - 3 sweet and the 4 cheese salty pancake, everything was amazing, very tasty! We definitely recommend this restaurant, the kids enjoyed it very much!

Absolutely loved the vegetarian options. Food was prepared fresh and served at perfect temperature. Presentation 💯. We tried the spinach ricotta lasagna and the fried cottage cheese pancake with salad.

I used to come here a lot during my student years - the huge choice of pancakes, savory and sweet, and good prices with perfect location make it hard to pass. They also have very nice lemonades.

Looking for a proper pancake experience. Savoury / Sweet, with a huge selection of each. I decided to get the Nutella and sherry cherry, no regrets. Staff were cheerful and efficient. Vibe was really good. And they were fairly busy 10mins after opening. This is a great place just 2mins from the Bascilica and charging realistic prices.

Lovely pancakes. We both had sweet pancakes. The pancakes are huge so you could even share between two people...unless you want to try as many different options as possible. Vanilla cream and cottage cheese Sherry soaked cherry and vanilla - definitely recommended The place is very hot in the middle of summer. It had fans, but really it needs aircon. The people working there were very nice and welcoming.

Really loved the place – super stylish and definitely lives up to the Michelin Guide recommendation. The spicy salmon, tenderloin with mashed potato and peppercorn sauce, and the chocolate ganache dessert were all amazing. Big shoutout to our waiter Cojocaru Márk for the great service!

One of the best places for dining in Budapest. Very beautifyll and fancy place with nice atmosphere. Food was astonishing, kudos to the Chef. Special touch of such kind of Fine Dining Restaurants is that when the food is brought, it served on the right temperature for consuming. The stuff was very nice and professonal which is very big plus. Our waitress Dorina was aleays there for us, very helpfull with the menu and always with a smile.

The food was amazing, and Mark was an excellent server. He made great recommendations, and we enjoyed our experience very much! The building is beautiful, and Mark explained the history of the namesake and the architecture. Stunning views of the river and the castle. Highly recommend! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The lamb, gazpacho, tuna tartare, Greek salad, fresh bread, margaritas, and tiramisu were all wonderful. We just couldn’t stop ordering more and more!

I came to Felix in-between lunch and dinner service, and could only order from the bar/dessert menu. Aranygaluska was highly recommended here, and even though it came in a portion for 2-3 people I still ordered it. It was definitely a good choice. I must say that the pastry itself tasted a bit yeasty, though the vanilla sauce and ice cream compensated it. I clearly could not finish even a half of the dessert, and was offered takeaway ( unfortunately it didnt taste good when not warm and I didnt finish it). The restaurant was beautiful with perfect location. Sadly I could only rate cappucino and dessert there which were on the pricier side, around $35 with 15% tip included in the bill.

We arrived for lunch on a Sunday. We didn't have a reservation and the restaurant was pretty full. We were warmly welcomed. We had an amazing lunch. The highlight was a whole Sea Bass, that the four of us shared along with an amazing Hungarian white wine. Mark, Gyula, the sommelier and the rest of the staff provided excellent service. The cost of the meal reflects the quality of the service and the excellent food. If you want to celebrate or splurge, this is the place!

This is an absolutely amazing restaurant! The atmosphere is elegant and stylish — you can feel the refined vibe the moment you walk in. The food is excellent, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. The view is stunning, which makes the whole dining experience even more enjoyable. The service was also outstanding — the staff were attentive, friendly, and professional. I really loved everything about this place and will definitely come back again. I’m giving it a top rating and highly recommend it to anyone looking for great food, great ambiance, and great service!

I celebrated my birthday there, and it was the best decision ever! I had been looking at different restaurants for a long time and chose Felix, the Michelin-starred one — and I couldn’t have made a better choice. It’s truly the best place I’ve ever been to in every aspect. Our waiter (if I’m not mistaken, his name was Christopher) was an absolutely incredible person who provided top-level service. We even left him extra tips on top of the 15% already included in the bill. I was impressed by the gentlemanly attitude, the beauty of the restaurant inside and out, the lovely birthday surprise, and the absolutely delicious dishes. I highly, highly recommend this place!

Daubner Confectionery is a renowned circa-1901 establishment in Budapest, Hungary, known for its delectable cakes, ice cream, croissants, and desserts. This family-run business has been passing down traditional recipes through generations. Visitors are encouraged to try the classic Hungarian cake sortiment at Daubner along with other iconic treats like pogacsa and retes.
We recently visited Daubner Cukrászda, and I have to say, the cakes were the best I have ever tried. We sampled a variety of cakes, biscuits, and even some ice cream, and every single item was absolutely delicious. The quality and flavor were exceptional, making it well worth the trip. We will definitely come back if we visit Budapest again. Highly recommended!

Daubner is a letdown despite the hype. The waiting line is incredibly long and chaotic, with no clear system, and the staff isn’t particularly friendly. You even have to pay extra just to sit and eat your cake there, which feels unwelcoming. Also disappointing that they don’t offer milk-free options. Expected much more from such a famous place.

What can I say, it's an incredible bakery with amazing and unique cakes to Hungary. The variety they had was overwhelming, you could've spent several days, and you would still not be done trying all the cakes. Everything went very fast when you were ordering, they also had a lot of different flavours of ice creams. We got Pogácsa and a few different slices of cake and the cakes were very light and super tasty and the Pogcása were the star of the show. It is a bit outside, but it was a smooth ride to get there. Make sure to go here to get some pastries and cakes while in Budapest.

Treated myself with Raspberry Omlett and Raspberry Bird's Milk Cake. Usually not so impressed with local sweets in Hungary, but this century-old confectionary might just be an exception. Mákos Guba Bistro is a charming eatery that offers traditional Hungarian desserts like the delightful Mákos Guba, a sweet pudding made with layers of white bread soaked in a creamy poppy seed sauce. This popular treat is often enjoyed alongside vanilla custard and is a staple at Magyar festive feasts. The bistro also serves up other Hungarian classics such as Goulash soup and oven-cooked cottage cheese pasta.
Was looking for a place to taste Hungarian cuisine, and it’s definitely the right one! The portions are huge, the personnel is very friendly and approachable, and the service is really quick. We have ordered goulash and cottage-cheese pasta - were very delicious. Strongly recommended.

Pork fillets were good but only three slices. Chick legs were in good portion but a bit dried in terms of the taste. Soup was good although only three pieces of beef chunks that were slightly under par in terms of the taste. The vibe was good in general and provided us with ok experience. Maybe not the right dishes that I ordered this time!

My new favourite artisan/vegan coffee/cake shop in Pest, hands down! They have this amazing thing called sweet gorilla, i would discribe it as an in-house brewed (coffee and cocoa) mocha. Its the best, creamiest, cleanest and smoothest tasting amazing chocolaty coffee creation, that i can just not get out of my head. I loved the name so we had to order it cold (for me) and hot (for my partner) both were exceptional. I also appreciated the glass straw mine was served with. We tried the vegan ice-creams, i liked the mango best. We also sampled kne cake on the premises (strawberry matcha - was very good) and took a box of 4 home to try - the round raspberry was my fav, everyone loved the fusia punk one, the chai latte caramel is very good if you like those flavours. And the tiramisù for me was a bit too nutty tasting but still good. Service is very meticulous, helpful and friendly so just ask fir recommendations when you are there. Absolute must for all to take a photo on the hanging-trunk swing inside! Note: at the moment they are open from Thursday to Sunday only.

Nice and authentic ice cream we found in the city center. They will measure the weight of ice cream and then the price will be according to the weight of your ice cream. I tried the coffee and pistachias and they were amazing. The option of flavours are plenty so you have more options to pic. Nice place to have a bite for ice cream. Highly recommended place since the ice creams were really delicious!

The prices are really really high. My usual ice cream places are around Jaszai Mari and I find their quality higher and the prices cheaper. 1,500HUF for two smallish scoops of ice cream is intense. The cherry yogurt flavor was nice but the straciatella was subpar.

Small but delicious ice cream shop in the heart of Budapest. They measure by weight. The pistachio is to die for, I also had the Stracciatella, creamy and full of big chunks of chocolate. It’s a bit more pricey but you get quality. Only improvement could be a few chairs to sit on outside

A great and recommended place to enjoy a coffee and a chimney cake in the area. The staff was friendly and very helpful when we asked for restaurant recommendations. Coffee was good. Everything is made from high quality, natural ingredients, and they offer gluten free, dairy free, sugar free, and vegan options too. Slightly pricier than average, but totally worth it for the taste and experience. A must try if you love creative, handcrafted ice cream! ✨
Orsolya M — Google review
We did a short stop at this special ice cream store in Budapest. They produce homemade ice cream and additionally the offer some different and crazy flavors with lavender. The ice cream tastes very good and I had nothing to complain. I tried 2 scoops: dark chocolate with lavender and lemon with lavender. Both flavors had a great taste and especially the lemon was icy and not to much creamy. Now we come to the negative side: it is way too expensive and you pay not by scoops, rather than by weight. For me it was good that we had a taste, but I would not go again.
Max P — Google review
The ice cream is ok but the person serving it was a little rude and not smiling at all. For this i would not go back. They could work on this. Decoration and taste was not bad.
Ben J — Google review
The ice cream here is yummy, even if a bit costly, but the service at the Vámház körút outlet on 22/9 was very disappointing. When we asked to try samples, the staff reacted with a sour face instead of politely refusing if no samples are given, there should be a clear sign. Later, when I paid for four ice creams in cash, she said she had no small change in the morning and insisted I pay by card, handling the situation rudely. A shop that is open should be ready for cash payments and treat customers with respect.
Venus L — Google review
This is the best artisanal ice cream I‘ve ever had, alongside Vivi‘s Creamery in Ibiza. Highly recommend the lavender options and all the obscure and rare flavours, many of them are vegan! I tried several sorts and the pistachio was the best pistachio ice cream I‘ve ever tasted.
Konstantin S — Google review
The ice cream was okay. But it's expensive, considering the little ice cream you get. They charge you by weight. The ice cream is not creamy enough and it starts drizzling really fast. While the staff was measuring and trying to charge me, the ice cream almost fell off the cone cause it was melting so fast. The taste is okay, they offer an assortment of interesting flavours. But definitely not going back again.
Justin E — Google review
It’s hard to describe how ridiculously bad this experience was. The lady WEIGHS your Ice Cream, one scoop is approximately 55 grams. To put it into perspective: The small cup which I got my ice cream in was far from being half full. How insanely greedy can you be? Charging 750 HUF for this should be considered a crime. Quality wise, you are better off getting some ice cream from the grocery store.

Possibly the best ice-cream I've ever had. Wonderful variety of unique and outrageously delicious scoops. The rose wine ice cream - disguised as raspberry something - is out of this world. Will definitely return for some more!
Emi E — Google review
📍Place: located a few steps from the Kelenföld station, easily accessible via public transport. It has some tables inside and outside as well, but to get an ice cream, you can just order it straight from the street. 🍛 Food: I am a big ice cream fan, and this is actually pretty good considering the options in Budapest. I have tried 5 flavours: - Sour cream with honey & raspberry: tasted like a real sweet sour cream, very interesting taste in a good way. - Carrot cake: has some white chocolate on the top, but actually tasted pretty intense. - Erdős: basically a good quality pistachio ice cream with white chocolate and some almonds biscuits - very massive, but good. - Cheesecake: it tasted more like sour cream - Strawberry praline: the chocolate didn't taste good, the strawberry was real, but not too much flavour. Although I didn't see prices, it seems like they charge 140 Ft/10 grams - 1 flavour is 50 grams. Based on this, the portion is surprisingly small, usually at other parlours there are no space left in the cup in case of 3 flavours. 👩🏻‍🍳 Service: people were okay, patient, seemed a little bored and burnt out, not the enthusiastic smiling ones but it's okay.

We had doboš cake and their house cake - erdős. 🍰 Cakes are edible, however - they lack elegance, texture, flavour and attention to detail. I did not like the plastic wrap on them - it looks cheap. The air quality is really bad. It smells like a home of an sick old woman with the cats. 🤢 Price is not important to me, but it smells bad and the cakes were underwhelming.

Wonderful restaurant. It is nice to have the opportunity to try local cuisine in a vegan/vegetarian form. The dishes were excellent and very tasty. The servers were very courteous and helpful in explaining. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience. We only wished we had more opportunity to try other dishes. Definitely a must visit for someone vegetarian trying to get a taste of local food.

Wow wow wow the food was really good. I came with my non vegan boyfriend and he enjoyed the food as well. But what we enjoyed the most is Patric our waiter. He was really nice!!!! And gave us good wine recommendations and he was really professional. There was another waitress who was very nice as well. I really recommend.

Went here twice during our visit to Budapest. My party tried a variety of foods, the pictures attached are what I had. This restaurant is great if you are vegan and you would like to try some Hungarian food while in Budapest. Pictured are bean goulash, mushroom stew, and a Hungarian cottage cheese dessert. There are also schnitzels, pizzas, cream cakes, and plenty of other foods available on the menu. The food was fresh and tasty, my only reservation would be that it is rather pricey. Also probably best to make a reservation as the place was full both nights that we went - for good reason! Staff are polite, there are toilet facilities available, and it is in a good location.

Extremly friendly and helpful staff. And the food was heavenly delicious. The interior is beautiful, creating a good vibe for eating. Had a really good time here, surely we will go back as many times as we can. Highly recommend!

We had a delicious vegan meal and drinks here. The atmosphere, decor and food were all beautiful. We were also served by a great waiter (wish we got his name! Young man, blue eyes and I think blondish hair, working lunch time on 3rd October 2025), who was funny, attentive and friendly. I would definitely recommend giving this place a try.

We visited Vegan Garden today and tried the Vegan Brassoi and the Mushroom Paprikash, both recommended by our waiter. In fact the Vegan Brassoi should have had tomato sauce, pea etc which we could not see(certainly did not look like the picture on their menu).Unfortunately, we found the taste of both dishes a bit bland, which was disappointing as we had high expectations from the reviews we had read of the restaurant . The staff, however, was great, our waiters were efficient and served with a smile. While we would not order these two dishes again, we would be willing to return to try other items on the menu.
Mahesh G — Google review
I was there for dinner. I ordered the main course pasta and lemonade - you have to try lavender lemonade! It’s heaven! Waiters are super polite and smiling. I felt really good there and the waiting time for plate was very short.

Cloud 9 is a city center hotspot renowned for its unique desserts that combine ice cream and pastry to create exceptional treats. The ice cream is served at the perfect temperature, melting in your mouth upon contact, providing a delightful experience. The ingredients are carefully sourced, ensuring high quality and great taste without excessive sugar or preservatives. This place has elevated ice cream to a whole new level with its flavor combinations, making it more of a dessert than just regular ice cream.
Yummy ice cream. I happened to come here by chance. The cinnamon one is so amazing.

Love the concept of the store and how its not your average ice cream shop. Each flavor cup has a combination of cake/sauces etc.. The sugar free pistachio gelato was really good not too sweet and tastes like real pistachios
Maryam — Google review
Very elegant, stylish place AND ice cream. It’s actually more a dessert than an ice cream. Polite, friendly staff. Card accepted. Recommended (pre-made cups more than a normal scoop). Gluten-free, vegannand sugar-free options available.

Really great service! Very friendly! The ice cream 🍨, kind of cake and the ice coffee where perfect… thanks 😊 we‘ll come back 😅

Highly recommend this as a must ice cream shop. Unique concept = delicious dessert! Our favorite was the pistacho. We tried 5 different ones. Staff was very friendly.

Tried a Cloud9 Vanilla ice-cream at the Rakpart on Sunday. Choice was not big, portions seem very small. The cone was far from fresh and didn’t taste good. Also, the vanilla was not strong. The scooper girl hardly knew how to work with ApplePay and was not able to give me a receipt. All in all, not a great experience and for sure no value for money. Not recommended.
Peter J — Google review
Recommended! It is not just a simple ice cream, it is a Masterpiece. The founder has a very good taste. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff. Go there and try some. Worth it. 😁
Peteraki88 — Google review
Good ice-cream, but maybe we picked the wrong flavour. There were small pieces inside, something like cake, and it kinda ruined the ice cream for us.
Jan K — Google review
A veritable hidden gem. While everyone is grabbing mediocre gelatos from stands, you can waltz in here knowing that you're having la crème de la crème. This ice cream is served at the exact perfect temperature where it melts in your mouth upon contact. Aptly named, you may feel as if your taste buds are floating on Cloud 9. The ingredients are sourced with care, and you can taste the quality right away. The desserts are neither loaded with excess sugar nor preservatives. The owner, Mark, is a super sweet gent who clearly cares about his creations and has a veritable sweet tooth himself. The store itself is lit in a fluorescent fashion reminiscent of the old school ice cream parlours, but there is also the option of sitting outside. If you manage to stop by near the golden hour you can take your delicious dessert to the bridge and watch the sun set for another sweet treat.
KT K — Google review
They managed to elevate ice cream to a whole new level. If you try their flavor matches you will not go back to regular ice cream again. Very well thought out great mini experience every cup. Do yourself a favor and make this place one of your stop when in Budapest

This place is too good to be true!! The variety of options is super big, savoury & sweet.. which made it very hard to pick. I would highly recommend you to try the smokey scone, and definitely the cinnamon roll.

My favourite is the smoked and zucchini pogača. The rustic pizza is no longer crispy but still tasty. It has a dominant pesto and tomato taste. The lady serving us is really nice and friendly.

Cute alleyway and fantastic pastry. It was a hot day and we forgot the water bottle at the hotel, they offered us free water and it was greatly appreciated. Great people adds so much to a good business. Thank you

To be very honest. They tasted ok. My fav was the round big apricot buns. We bought quite a lot. My friend said she prefer the salty pastry. It was average but not impressive.

A small and almost a hidden boutique chocolates store, with a variety of unique flavors. The owner, who makes the chocolates with his wife, takes the time to explain each flavor and with which food or drink it fits best. We took 3 pieces and enjoyed each a LOT

Most wonderful chocolates we ever tried. The slow development of tastes on your tongue is amazing. Experiencing the unusual combinations of flavors leave us with a smile in our faces. If you're on the hunt for a delightful treat that embodies both tradition and flavor, look no further than the Chimney Cake shop. This iconic Hungarian pastry, known as "kur-tus-skol-ach," is a must-try whether you're lounging at the beach in summer or exploring festive Christmas markets in winter. With its origins tracing back to Transylvania and possibly even ancient Greece, this sweet delight features dough that's crispy on the outside yet fluffy within.
This shop is located right on the main shopping street in the center of Budapest. There are many places selling this pastry, but both the chimney cake and the ice cream I tried are tasty and quite sweet, sharing one between two people is more than enough.
Phuong N — Google review
Well, we had to have at least one time when we were here. This type of delectable mouthwatering treat must always be consumed while on vacation. We stopped into this shop after dinner and the line was not that bad, but still it would have helped if there were more people working. The staff members were polite, but not overly friendly. This was probably due to the number of people they had to serve, which can wear you down. There are both indoor and outdoor seating areas and a restroom inside for customers. As for ice cream, it’s ice cream, and who doesn’t like ice cream, which makes the world a better place.
Thomas B — Google review

The chimney cake shop at Deák in Budapest offers freshly made, warm, and delicious kürtőskalács with various flavors and toppings. The aroma is inviting, and the staff are friendly. It’s a perfect spot for a quick, authentic Hungarian treat while exploring the city center.
Anith J — Google review
By far the best and the sweetest desserts in Budapest. You can take out or sit outside and enjoy your treat. We chose two with delicious ice cream.
Gosia K — Google review
I was honestly expecting a bit more. I know what truly great kürtöskalács tastes like - I’ve had some outstanding ones in Serbia, Hungary, Romania and Czechia. This one, for me, falls somewhere in the “not great, not terrible” category. That said, it does look perfect, and the place itself is super clean.

The chimney cake here is really delicious, its very sweet so beware, the classic one is the best for that reason. The staff was very nice and polite and they have a cute sitting area where you can enjoy your dessert. If you buy yours with filling definitely buy a water for all that sugar!

(Translated by Google) I've been following the insta site for a while now, but I visited the "shop" for the first time to order a cake for Mother's Day. We received a beautiful little mini cake, which could be ordered in a flavor that is close to us (my mom is less experimental). Still, after the small slice of taste orgy, we only had the energy to rest. The taste is wonderful, my mother pinched each layer separately and explained which one was what. (unfortunately, the page where you could order is no longer available and I can't find it in the order confirmation to confirm or help you with this). Coffee mousse is what I remember. The edible flowers on top are very creative (and really edible :D) I recommend it to everyone! We will definitely order from here again, in fact, we will be more experimental next time. Thank you for the great opportunity! Köszönjük a nagyszerű lehetőséget!

Cat cafe
Cat Cafe in Budapest is a cozy and comfortable place where visitors can enjoy coffee, hot sandwiches, cakes, and cocktails in the company of free-roaming pet cats. Located near St. Stephens Basilica and the city center, this low-key establishment offers a relaxing atmosphere for cat lovers to unwind. With its intimate setting and adorable feline residents, it provides a unique experience for those seeking a blend of relaxation and furry fun.
Amazing! All the kittens are so cute . They will come to you , just follow the rules and they somehow will! Lol amazing customer service, I would have loved to get the cat earrings from the display but there seemed to be an issue with the key! But nonetheless had an amazing time and would recommend this coffee for all the cat lovers who visit Budapest! 💖✨🥹
Alex M — Google review
We visited in the evening and looked in before entering to make sure we wouldn't be shown upstairs as there are a lot of reviews mentioning that the cats aren't up there. We were greeted as soon as we entered and given a card with a list of rules to follow and then showed to a table. It wasn't too long before someone arrived and took our order. Similarly, it wasn't too long before our cakes and drinks arrived. Both drinks and cakes were good. However, I think the drinks are a little expensive. We found the staff to be friendly. Most guests seemed respectful towards the cats. There was only one couple who kept trying to get the cats to play by using 'teaser toys,' even when the cats weren't interested. I used the toilet before we left, which is downstairs. By the way, the bathroom was very clean and tidy, as was the whole cafe There were quite a few cats downstairs chilling out away from the humans. We had a pleasant experience at the Cat Cafe.
Terry H — Google review
Very busy on arrival, waited a little time to enter which is fine. Good selection of food and drinks, service was good. Excellent enrichment available for the cats. The cats were mostly sleeping, the rules were shown to each customer upon entering but we watched 3 separate groups of people disturb a sleeping cat. This was a common practice and we seen 3 more sleeping cats be disturbed. Staff do not advocate for the cats or enforce the rules, which is disappointing. Another rule said no kids under 10, but there were children there when we arrived and left. Again, why have rules but not enforce them? $$$ ? There was a staff member (blonde woman), who was chasing a black cat around with a pole and feather. The cat was completely disinterested moving from room to room but she persisted in waving the feather in its face bothering it. Just strange! Food and drinks were good quality and value, just would like to see a bit more advocacy for the cats. Bathroom and cafe were clean.
Rebecca H — Google review
It’s worth visiting if you like cats—the kitties seem well cared for and the space is cozy for a relaxing time. Picking them up isn’t allowed, which keeps them comfortable. Unfortunately, the food and coffee were just okay, nothing special, so go more for the cat experience than for the dining.
Luana B — Google review
cute cats. the „strawberry“ lemonade tasted nothing like strawberries and had other fruit in it. it’s a bit loud in the cafe so if you want to work or do anything else it’s hard to concentrate. i hoped to quickly charge my phone while playing with the cats but they didn’t allow that.
Theo — Google review
compared to all the cat cafes we have been to, this one was one of the best! a lot of kitties and tasty coffee and cakes, 100% recommend! the only thing I can suggest is a list of the kittens with their names, pics and descriptions somewhere accessible to customers so they can read it
Marcelina M — Google review
The Cat Café near Saint Stephen’s Basilica is a charming and unique spot that cat lovers will really enjoy. The atmosphere is cozy and relaxing, with plenty of friendly cats wandering around to keep you company while you sit and unwind. The location is great, close to one of Budapest’s main landmarks, making it easy to visit during a day of sightseeing. The café itself is beautifully decorated and offers a calm escape from the busy city. That said, the food isn’t the highlight here. It’s a bit overpriced for what you get, and the quality is just average. The waiters can be slow at times, which can be a bit frustrating if you’re hungry or in a hurry. Despite these drawbacks, I still recommend visiting for the experience. Spending time with the cats in such a lovely setting is worth it, especially if you enjoy animals. Overall, four stars for the atmosphere, location, and the unique opportunity to relax with cats, even if the food and service could be improved.
Emanuele F — Google review
The café is spacious and cozy, with plenty of cats around. We were lucky to snag a table with a sleepy cat right beside us! The pictures really say it all. Walk-ins are welcome, but since the place is often full, you might have to wait a bit for a table. Once you order, the service is quick, but getting the staff’s attention to place your order can take some time, you may need to wave or call them over. Still, a lovely spot for cat lovers..

Hunyadi Square Market is a charming, old-world marketplace located in Budapest's District 6. The market hall, which has been standing for over 120 years, was restored to its former glory in September 2019. It stands out from other market halls due to its small and cozy nature. Inside the Renaissance Revival building, visitors can find stalls selling a variety of goods including produce, meat, seafood, and flowers.
I love these old market buildings, there are so many across town and they’re a great place to buy your groceries. This market is notable for its very good cheese shop that also sells raw milk, and for the shop with a wide variety of fresh and dried mushrooms. Do note it closes early on Saturdays. Worth a visit for foodies!

Fantastic market full of fresh local produce on a Saturday till 1.00 PM. A good Lángos stand, where you can buy a small or large lángos. And a beautiful cafe at the end just as you enter into the gardens which serves delicious sandwiches and cakes.
Alison R — Google review
Medium sized indoor/outdoor market, many different stalls but mainly veg/fruit and butchers with the odd cheese and fish ones thrown in for good measure. Only about a quarter of the stalls open the Friday in April we visited, maybe it gets busier during the summer?
Stuart H — Google review
Beautiful traditional market with a great selection of cheese (definitely try the füstölt sajt; smoked cheese), pickled vegetables and handmade pastries. The local farmers are selling their food to a very reasonable price and the market always has a very relaxing atmosphere with no tourists at all. Outside the market hall there are even more beautiful stalls with flowers and herbs.
Hanna — Google review
It is a simple city marketplace with a few shops. You can buy fresh vegetables, milk products. Boucher and bakery also can be find here. If you would like to try some Hungarian dish for a reasonable price there are a few canteens you can chose from. Probably they won’t speak English and the menu is on Hungarian so get ready with a dictionary! ;) I believe, if you would like to try locally food and get a vibe, it’s a nice and friendly place to shop/eat. You can buy fresh vegetables and frites without unnecessary plastic wrapping! It’s a plus if you try to be green. :)

Restaurant
Bajai Halászcsárda, also known as Hungarian Fishermans soup, is a beloved local dish with a rich history. For centuries, this soup has been prepared by generations of fishermen and their families along the picturesque banks of the Danube. The traditional method involves cooking it in a cauldron over an open fire, adding to its authentic flavor.
Pretty authentic and fairly local friendly place. Huge doses and a cosy environment in general.

Fish soup was ok but salmon plate was extraordinary
Mario S — Google review
My short summary: Wow! The location is in a nice neighborhood, but quite far from tourist sites. However, I would climb mountains and cross oceans to find good food. I am glad I was not deterred by its location to visit this place. I heard that this restaurant is well-known for its Hungarian fish soup. Yet, I didn't expect that a land-locked country could cook fish meat THIS well. First, the fish soup was aromatic but not fishy. The carp, which can easily be overcooked, was served on the side so the heat from the hot liquid wouldn't continue to cook the fish. The bone-in fish was juicy and tender. Second, my main was the pan-fried catfish fillet with Hungarian potatoes. Both the protein and the starch were cooked to absolute perfection. My hat's off to the master chef who created these unforgettable dishes. Last but not least, the servers were very courteous. They were patient and helpful. I highly recommend anybody with even the slightest interest in pisces to visit this restaurant. I think they would be wowed too.
Mary C — Google review
I just can recommend this place to everyone who loves, or would like to try the real Hungarian Csárda (restaurant) experience. Very neat and clean place with the traditional red-white square patterned table cloth, kind and friendly staff and live gipsy music with violin and cimbalom (cymbalo, dulcimer) that is a great addition to the atmosphere. We tried the Bajai Fish Soup with carp fillet (2200 HUF) and “gyufa teszta” (400HUF) (a type of pasta, recommended for fish soups). We also tried the traditional beef Gulyas Soup (1600HUF). Simply delicious, both. The portions are large and perfectly enough, reach in flavour and filling, just as you would expect from the traditional Hungarian meals. All in all, fantastic place, great food and good price. Easy to reach on Svab Hegy by the Fogaskereku vasut. Enjoy. :)

Probably one of the most authentic places in Budapest. Location is magical no matter what time of the year it is! I am in love with it on summer afernoons and on winter snowy evenings! These are actually two places: pizzeria which is a more convenient place and extremly friendly for kids with play corner and charda itself which is veeeery good restorant with extremly high quality kitchen magic! I am local and i live 10 min away from Csarda, due to some chalanges in my life i spent a full half year visiting them almost each evening. Not even once food was not mind blowing, notbeven once waiters were not smiling! Menu is changed each half year and they have specialities for main holidays. Very good meat dishes and one of the best choice for classic fish dishes! Its not extra cheap, but quality and service are giving backnthe price you pay! If you visit them send "big up" to best waiter in the world Szilard!
