St. Stephen's Basilica is a grand Roman Catholic church in Budapest, built between 1851 and 1905. It holds regular concerts and is a significant site in Hungarian history, as it stands on Saint Stephen Square, named after the first Hungarian king. The square is also the center of celebrations for Hungary's greatest holiday on August 20th, dedicated to King Stephen.
I've been to many churches, but this one was one of the most beautiful I've seen in Europe. You should definitely visit. There are different ticket options, but I bought the full package and experienced everything there is to see. You can also see the entire city from the terrace. While the stairs can be a little scary, they're quite safe and have a wonderful history. This place is definitely worth a visit.

St. Stephen’s Basilica (Szent István Bazilika) – A Must-See Gem in Budapest St. Stephen’s Basilica is one of Budapest’s most breathtaking landmarks — a perfect blend of history, spirituality, and stunning architecture. The moment you step inside, you’re greeted by magnificent marble columns, golden domes, and intricate frescoes that truly showcase Hungary’s artistic heritage. The panoramic view from the dome is absolutely worth the climb — it offers one of the best 360° views of Budapest, especially at sunset when the city glows in warm golden light. The ascent is surprisingly smooth, with both stairs and an elevator option for convenience. The atmosphere inside is peaceful and reverent, even though it’s one of the city’s most visited attractions. The soft organ music often playing in the background adds to the divine feel of the place. If you’re lucky, you might catch a live concert — the acoustics here are world-class. It’s named after Hungary’s first king, St. Stephen, and even houses his mummified right hand, which is fascinating to see up close. The entry is free, but a small donation is encouraged and completely worth it for maintaining this masterpiece. 📸 Tip: Visit during the golden hour or in the evening when the basilica’s exterior is beautifully illuminated — it’s a photographer’s dream. Overall, St. Stephen’s Basilica is not just a religious monument — it’s a cultural and architectural treasure that captures the spirit of Budapest.

What a beautiful church. The details are incredible. We went to a concert tonight - the music was beautiful. Definitely recommend! Also, go to the Panoramic viewpoint. You can take the elevator up partway, but you still need to climb several floors of stairs- but it was so cool to see the cement structure of the dome!
Tena S — Google review
An architectural masterpiece and one of the most awe-inspiring places I’ve ever visited. The scale, detail, and symmetry of the interiors are unreal - gold and marble everywhere, and the dome feels endless. Climbing up to the viewing terrace (€6-€8) is completely worth it: the panoramic view of Budapest, from the Parliament to the Buda hills, is easily one of the best in the city. You can feel the reverence in the air; even with crowds, there’s a hush that fits its grandeur. Tip: Time your visit just before sunset - watching the golden light fall over the city from the top is a memory you’ll keep forever.
Neel B — Google review
This church is one of my mom’s favorites, and during our visit to Budapest it quickly became one of mine as well. It’s definitely a must-see. You do need a ticket to enter, but purchasing them online is simple, and entry times are clearly scheduled. The area outside can get quite busy, yet inside the basilica it feels calm and organized. The architecture is stunning, and after your visit there are plenty of dining options nearby.
BA — Google review
Hello! The in-person ticket office is across the street (off ground), so be aware. The line to get tickets was not long at all. The basilica and panoramic view combination is the best value. There is a discount for seniors (65 years and older). The basilica is a wonder to see! There are many alcoves as well as central seating. Don’t forget to look up as the ceilings are also quite beautiful to see. The entrance for the panoramic view area is near the main entrance and you don’t have to exit the basilica to access. Your choice on walking up the 304 steps or taking a lift to get to the third floor. A second lift gets you up to the panoramic area - there is a limit to four persons per car on that second lift. On the way back down, visit the Treasury for a break in those 304 steps. Enjoy!

St. Stephen’s Basilica in Budapest looks beautiful from the outside, with a detailed neoclassical facade and towers that stand out from afar. Even without going inside — the interior visit requires a ticket — it’s worth stopping to admire and take photos. One of the most beautiful spots in the city.
Luana B — Google review
Magnificent! I am glad I went into the hall. When step inside, I am overwhelmed in a symphony of gold leaf, embedded frescoes, and natural light streaming through etched windows. The church is nestled in the vibrant heart of Budapest's District V, and stands as one of the city's most iconic landmarks, dedicated to Hungary's first king, Saint Stephen I. This neoclassical masterpiece, completed in 1905 after over 50 years of construction (delayed by revolutions, a dome collapse, and multiple architects), rivals the Hungarian Parliament in height at 96 meters, symbolizing the equal stature of spiritual and secular power in Hungary. With a capacity for 8,500 worshippers and intricate details like over 50 types of marble in its sculptures, it's not just a church—it's a testament to resilience and artistry.

The University Church is a beautiful Baroque styled church in Budapest, Hungary. With its intricate interior and exterior, the church is a true masterpiece of architecture.
Very beautiful church, too bad it was closed every time I went by. Will try to go while they have service, I'm very curious how it looks inside L E. After two years since my last visit I did manage to go in and I was not disappointed... This is a wonderful little church

The blue onion domed buildings are my favorite here in Budapest. There are many, but spread out so that they would make a fun walking tour.

Exquisite architecture! I loved the area around this building and find it perfect for evening strolls. It offers positive experiences, such as mental relaxation, reflection and a view for capturing amazing pictures. You can also visit Károlyi Garden it's near to this place.

I was staying very close to this church and would walk passed it often, noticing the height and the bell towers but never feeling inclined to go inside. One day the door was open and I was very surprised to see such a beautiful, Baroque Roman Catholic church. The outside belies the splendor within. It is not on tourist sites so is very quite. It's a nice place to take a rest and contemplate.

They renovated the inside since my last visit. The glorious ceilings are the future part of the project and will transform the place.

The Hungarian Parliament Building, a stunning example of neo-Gothic architecture, is a must-see landmark in Budapest. Situated along the Danube River, it boasts lavishly decorated rooms and towering spires that captivate architectural enthusiasts and history buffs alike. Families with older children interested in history and politics will also find the site intriguing. To avoid long lines, booking a tour in advance is recommended.
The Hungarian Parliament Building is one of the most impressive landmarks in Budapest. The architecture is stunning, with incredible details that reflect the city’s rich history and culture. Even from the outside, the view is breathtaking, especially when seen from across the Danube River. The building looks magnificent both during the day and beautifully lit up at night. It’s a must-visit spot for anyone coming to Budapest, whether for a quick photo stop or a full guided tour.
Saeed B — Google review
This is really an impressive building and worth of sightseeing from inside as well. They have prepared the guides in many languages which is very good so people or not limited to english only. It woould be better that the tour was a bit longer and probably more detailed but overall it was fine. Thr big remark goes to the price for entrance which is huge!
Travel — Google review
The Hungarian Parliament Building at night is breathtaking. As darkness settles over Budapest, the entire Gothic Revival masterpiece glows with a golden light that reflects across the Danube, creating a mirror image so perfect it feels dreamlike. Seen from the Buda side, the building dominates the skyline, every spire and arch illuminated with precision. The reflection rippling in the river gives the scene a kind of quiet grandeur that photographs never quite capture. Up close on the Pest side, the building feels even more impressive. The sheer scale, the intricate carvings, and the warm glow of the stone make it clear why it’s one of Europe’s architectural treasures. At night, the Parliament isn’t just a government seat—it’s a symbol of the country’s history, pride, and resilience, standing tall against the dark sky. The best time to visit is after sunset, when the crowds thin and the city slows down. Walk along the Danube promenade, pause on the Chain Bridge, or simply sit by the water and watch the lights flicker. It’s one of those views that remind you why travel matters: moments of stillness and awe that stay with you long after you’ve left.
TheMindisCurious — Google review
One of the most magnificent buildings in all of Europe, pure architectural poetry on the banks of the Danube. The neo-Gothic spires, symmetry, and sheer scale are jaw-dropping, especially when seen from across the river or from a Danube night cruise. Up close, the craftsmanship is even more intricate, statues, arches, and details that feel almost unreal. It’s stunning by day but beyond magical at night, when it glows gold against the dark river. Tip: Skip the guided tour if short on time - the real magic is outside, especially at sunset from the opposite bank or from Fisherman’s Bastion.
Neel B — Google review
The Hungarian Parliament Building is one of the most stunning landmarks in Europe. Built in a Neo-Gothic style with pointed towers and intricate details, it dominates the Danube’s riverside skyline. Even if you don’t go inside (the interior visit is paid), it’s absolutely worth admiring from the outside. For the best view, head to the Buda side — the sight of the Parliament reflecting on the river is simply unforgettable.
Luana B — Google review
The Hungarian Parliament Building is one of the most magnificent landmarks in Budapest and a symbol of Hungary’s national pride. Completed in 1904, it was inspired by the British Parliament in London and built in Neo-Gothic style, with stunning spires, arches, and a grand central dome. Located along the banks of the Danube River, it offers a breathtaking view both by day and night, especially when illuminated. Inside, visitors can admire the Holy Crown of Hungary, ornate halls, and impressive architecture. Truly one of the most beautiful parliamentary buildings in the world.
Patrizia P — Google review
One of the most stunning structures I've seen. Incredibly beautiful. From all sides. From any distance. Top 1 in Budapest. The photos look unreal, but they're real!) I highly recommend a tour inside. It lasts about an hour. Available in different languages. You definitely need to book in advance for a specific time, because the number of spots is limited. You might wait a couple of hours if you don't book. This is an active government building, so there are security measures - you need to arrive at least 10-15 minutes before your scheduled time. Of course there are items that are prohibited from bringing inside. Regarding the parliament inside. Very atmospheric. A completely different style than the exterior. In my opinion there's too much gold) but it's definitely worth it
Павел К — Google review
Sadly Parliament was in session and so we couldn’t do an inside tour but the outside of the building is mesmerising; especially at night. Birds hover and fly over it presumably catching all the insects the lights attract but the why they glimmer in the light make them look like moving starts. It is a wonderful sight to see. Also ensure you check out the front as they have a reflective pool which offers some unique pictures too. Love how open the building still is not yet ruined by over burdensome security measures.

The complex houses the Hungarian National Gallery, showcasing an extensive collection of art spanning from Gothic altars to contemporary works by renowned international and Hungarian artists. Visitors can admire pieces by French Impressionists like Monet and Pissarro as well as prominent Hungarian painters such as Munkacsy and Csontvary.
Castle with a lot Hungarian history. You can see much of the castle without buying any tickets. The real highlight is that you can get a good view of the Hungarian parliament as well as the bridge from here. It also lights up at night which looks nice if you’re looking at the castle from below or from the other side

Buda Castle in Budapest is absolutely spectacular. From the moment you arrive, the scale and elegance of the castle are breathtaking. The panoramic views of the Danube and Pest side are incredible, especially from the terrace. Inside, the museums offer fascinating exhibitions that mix history, art, and culture, making it more than just a sightseeing spot. The castle grounds themselves are wonderful to wander, with charming streets, courtyards, and little cafes where you can take a break and soak in the atmosphere. It’s a place where history and beauty come together perfectly and definitely deserves plenty of time to explore.
Sabrina V — Google review
Definitely worth visiting when in Budapest. Great views of the Pest side from the castle. It is truly spectacular at night with the lights on. There was a lot of restoration work being done so the scaffolding and equipment takes away some of the beauty of this place.
Jay B — Google review
Very big castle and ancient architecture. I have went in the correct time. Because there is rennovation going on one side. Top view will be good for taking photos (chain bridge + Hungarian parliment ) from here..

One of the most spectacular landmarks! Wonderful! Definitely worth a visit. We took the shuttle service which made the whole trip very pleasant, and retained ample energy to visit many interesting spots along the way! It was relatively hot weather so the shuttle was extra helpful. But there is also a public bus service that we realised later.

Magical Walk Through History – Castle Hill, Budapest Visiting Castle Hill in Budapest was one of the highlights of my trip to Hungary. This entire area is a stunning blend of history, culture, and breathtaking views, making it a must-see for any traveler. Perched above the Danube on the Buda side of the city, Castle Hill offers a peaceful escape from the busy streets below. The majestic Buda Castle dominates the skyline and houses both the Hungarian National Gallery and the Budapest History Museum—perfect for anyone interested in art, heritage, and architecture. Just a short walk away is the iconic Matthias Church, with its colorful tiled roof and intricate interior, as well as the fairy-tale-like Fisherman’s Bastion, which offers panoramic views over the river and Parliament building—especially magical at sunset. The cobblestone streets, charming courtyards, and well-preserved medieval atmosphere make the entire district feel like stepping into another time. There are cozy cafés, artisan shops, and quiet gardens to explore, including the beautifully restored Várkert Bazár at the foot of the hill. Whether you're into history, photography, or simply soaking in local culture, Castle Hill has something for everyone. I highly recommend spending a full day here—you’ll leave with unforgettable memories and a deeper appreciation for Budapest’s rich past.

The Budapest Inner-City Mother Church of Our Lady of the Assumption is a historic church with a mix of architectural styles, including Gothic, Romanesque, and Baroque. Situated in March 15 Square, it has been a significant site since ancient times when it was guarded by Roman centurions. Visitors can climb the twin towers for panoramic views of Buda and enjoy beautiful music from its masterpiece organ.
A beautiful church with almost a thousand years of history (even older if you count the Roman ruins beneath the church). The church is filled with intricate carvings and statues, as well as previous murals and artifacts. You can go beneath the church into the crypts and take an elevator to go up the tower.
Andy Z — Google review
Pretty cool. Can see some Roman building as the base of the church. Cool info dotted around too. Elevator was broken when I went so prepare to get dizzy walking up the winding stairs
Sam C — Google review
Was staying at a hotel near this church. Went in at 7.30pm, but saw a sign that said “Tourist stop”, so I went to the security and told him I wanted to go in and prayer with my wife and he politely allowed us in. Surprised to see 2 priests sitting at each side to listen to confession… at this time, when there’s no mass??? No “business”, hence, saw both of them chatting, after our prayers when we were leaving. Not knowing if they speaks English, I went to ask is I could make my confession and I did my first overseas confession… lol, though the priest prayed over me in his native language after the confession. Great experience!

Whether admiring the stunning interior or taking in the awe-inspiring views from above, it promises a memorable and enriching experience for all who visit.

This place was built on the site of a roman fortress; you can see the ruins of this through the floor window in the Nave. The Church itself has lots of interesting features, one of the highlights is the 14th century fresco of the Madonna exhibited in the ambulatory and only discovered a few years ago. There are a number of ornate altars along the Aisles. The Crypt contains a Chapel and you can see more of the Roman remains here. A very good leaflet, available in English, provides a great guide to the key features of this Church. The Tower is also included in the ticket price and accessible by lift or stairs. But it's not that high and doesn't really provide panoramic views of the city. However you get a good view of the roof timbers from the gallery. So don't come for the Tower, come for the Crypt and the Church interior.
Miles M — Google review
The earliest features of the church date back to the Romanesque period. In 1046, St. Gellért (Gerard), Bishop of Csanád, was buried there. Wikipedia

Nestled in the heart of the Danube, Margaret Island is a serene oasis offering medieval ruins and lush gardens. It's a popular spot for recreation, with activities like renting pedal carts or rowboats. The island appeals to nature lovers, families, and those seeking outdoor leisure. Visitors can enjoy a peaceful respite and explore the island's natural beauty through its musical fountain and sprawling lawns overlooking the river.
I am in love with this Island. Huge spaces to sit and enjoy your day, beach to swim, a musical fountain yo sit around and enjoy the show. It's 2.5 km long so you can just enjoy walk around. Do not forget to visit the Japanese garden while you are there.

The island is very beautiful and has good sightseeing facilities. It is possible to rent multi-person bicycles, which I highly recommend you try, it doubles the pleasure of exploring the island. Inside the island there is a mini zoo, swimming pool, playground, old buildings and various cafes.

Absolutely gorgeous parks and facilities. We returned at 7pm to watch the colourful water fountain, choreographed to music. I was amazed at the mesmerising effects created from such a small water feature. Brilliant!!

A beautiful place in the center of the city that I haven’t managed to reveal in whole. Surely will come back again. The garden, musical fountain, bistro and restaurants, historical monuments and much, much more… The place of peace and joy

Such a great place to walk around with lots to see and discover. You can easily spend a couple of days exploring or just come by to relax and chill.

Such a beautiful island, well maintained, clean and had a lot of places to seat and rest. The only minus is toilets for money and you have to pay cash only. Except this, very lovely place for tourists and locals. Probably during summer it’s even better and has more activities.
Maria A — Google review
This is a great location if you are looking for a running route in the city away from having to constantly stop for the roads and traffic lights. What’s more there is a purpose built running track that take you around the whole island which is 5k. Just ensure you bring some euros as although there are plenty of public toilets on the island they all charge to use. You’ll also find the Budapest sign here.
Mark W — Google review
It's a Marvelous and one of the beautiful place to hangout in the heart of Budapest. It has It's own natural beauty a piece of land surrounded by the beautiful danube river where you can spend you time by enjoying different types of activities. I must suggest you to go there two times night and day time both has It's own beauty.

The Hungarian National Museum in Budapest is a historical museum that houses a wide range of cultural artifacts, archaeological items, documents, coins, and paintings. It is one of the earliest specialized museums in Europe and has a rich history dating back to 1872. The museum's collection includes pieces from East Asia as well as ethnographical artifacts from the Northern Urals.
Not a huge museum, but it is absolutely worth a visit. The museum could use more signage, many people were accidentally going through the exhibits backwards (its a timeline). Great info - some plaques had English but most were Hungarian. Museum shop is well stocked, and there is a coffee shop on the same floor. Storage lockers require coins.
Nick W — Google review
I highly recommend this Museum as your very first stop in Budapest! The history of Hungary is well-organized and presented in an engaging manner! You will better appreciate everything else this beautiful city and rich national culture have to offer! Prioritize the history portion if you don’t have much time. It is worth it! Must-sees: King St. Stephen’s coronation mantle from 1,000 years ago and Beethoven’s piano that was given to Liszt after Beethoven’s death and he, in turn, donated to the Museum. If you have time, visit everything! There is a temporary exhibition that, in my opinion, presents the best concept ever! Fantastic content, pertinent message, immersive audio-visual effects, and much more! The video attached does not make justice to it but it gives you an idea! The Museum offers a Café and a Gift Shop! Many books in English, French, Spanish, and German, including handy Budapest guides. Definitely visit this place! You won’t regret!!!
Giovani B — Google review
Wonderful experience! We visited there on a national day, hence it was free entry. The interior of the museum is spectacular, and the contents are very rich; from Hungarian history, to the modern scientific development. You could definitely spend a whole afternoon there. Very recommended!
Minnie L — Google review
Compared to the Budapest History Museum, it has a smaller collection related to Budapest’s history, but its interior is stunning. It features an impressive array of military artifacts, including chain mail and various types of firearms and surprisingly visitors can touch these replica collections. It takes 1.5hours to visit the regular exhibition.
HSY — Google review
The Hungarian National Museum was a very interesting experience. It has many fascinating exhibits and covers the entire history of Hungary. It is recommended to spend at least 3 to 4 hours there. However, the staff could be more polite towards visitors.
Tamari — Google review
Interesting museum that covers a tonne of Hungarian history. I know Hungary has a separate military history museum (which is currently closed) but I was surprised at how little military history there is. There is the ending of the museum sequence but this is more focused on the Nazis and the Soviets (emphasis on the latter). I would agree with other reviewers that it was odd having to get your ticket checked so many times (and that the people checking the tickets couldn't show anymore that they'd rather be elsewhere).
Anil B — Google review
Really annoying concept with a ticket, there are 4 “parts” of the museum and you will be asked to show your ticket in every single one, instead on the entrance only. Museum itself is okay, although there is no any logical order, any unique or traditional stuff - the only extraordinary thing is Beethoven’s and Listz’s piano. A lot of, let’s say “twisted” historical facts that are not really true and really not a lot to do/see. However, ticket price is fairly cheap and still this might be okayish way to spend time in Budapest. PS. There are ticket machines on the sides, if you want to avoid a huge line.
Darko L — Google review
The Hungarian National Museum is a great stop if you’re into history—or even if you’re just curious. The building itself is grand and beautiful, and the inside is packed with fascinating stuff, from ancient artifacts to modern exhibits that walk you through Hungary’s story. Everything’s well-organized, and there are English descriptions throughout, which makes it really easy to follow. Even just wandering the museum feels like a step back in time. Definitely worth a visit if you want to get a feel for the country’s past.

Gellért Hill Cave, also known as the Budapest Cave Church, is a remarkable site nestled within the Gellért Hill in Budapest. This unique attraction consists of a network of caves that were once used as a monastery and even served as a field hospital during World War II. After being sealed off for decades, the cave church was reopened to visitors in 1990 and has since been restored to its former glory.
Wow well thought out and a very cool atmosphere due to the thermal springs. Interesting little recording to tell you what it's all about. A quiet sanctuary too if you feel the need for quiet time.

Actually, the guy at the ticket counter was really nice. I bought 2 tickets, a regular ticket and a EU student ticket. We went inside and after almost finishing our tour, we noticed other visitors with audio guides. I don’t understand why he didn’t offer us one. We would’ve loved to have it…….

Gorgeous church in a cave. Personally, a must see. They are cash only so bring cash, euro, or Hungarian currency. Card does not work.
Serena L — Google review
A must visit in Budapest. It is a remarkable Catholic church built into the natural rock chambers of Gellért Hill, near the Danube's west bank. The site combines spiritual significance, unique architecture, and historical intrigue, making it one of Budapest's most unusual religious attractions. It will be definitely be a unique experience. The ticket price (3€) also includes an audio guide.
Kevin A — Google review
I first visited this unusual chapel cut into the rock in 2018 with a friend, and recently took my husband to see it on a return visit to Budapest. The man at the ticket counter was very pleasant and the entry price is reasonable and includes an audio guide. It's an interesting place to visit because it's entirely built in the rock of the Gellert Hill and is fairly easy to get to, especially if you use the hop on hop off bus.
Carole A — Google review
They wish you pay with cash. But if you do not have cash they will accept cards. You get an audio guide to listen to during the visit. The cave church is smaller as we expected but still a unique experience. Staff was very young but helpful.

The Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest is a neoclassical art museum that houses an extensive collection of artworks from various periods and regions. The museum recently moved to a purpose-built facility in the City Park, where it originally presented its collection to the public in 1896. The museum's exhibition spaces have been expanded, allowing for the display of its 250-thousand-piece collection, which includes artifacts from the Carpathian Basin and around the world.
We visited exhibition of works by the mysterious Master MS. The exhibition was excellent - very professional. We also enjoyed permanent exhibitions. There are surprisingly many high-quality paintings. The musuem building is magnificient and well-kept. Entrance fees are reasonable. The museum staff is helpful and very polite.

This is one of the major museums with an impressive collection of paintings. I really enjoyed the atmosphere, the architecture of the building, and of course the art. They also host weddings here, so don’t be surprised if you spot a bride and groom in some of the rooms. If you’re thinking of visiting, I’d say it’s definitely worth your time. Just a heads up, don’t carry your jacket around. You’ll need to either wear it or check it in at the entrance.
Shirin M — Google review
I’m not usually an art person, but I really enjoyed visiting this gallery. The collection focuses on works painted up to the 1800s, including a few paintings by El Greco and even a sculpture attributed to Da Vinci. The layout makes it easy to follow — paintings are grouped by century and style, which helps a lot if you’re not an art expert. On the basement there’s also an ancient history section with Egyptian artefacts, which was fascinating. We spent about half a day there and didn’t even get to the special exhibitions due to time. A very enjoyable visit overall!
Marta Z — Google review
I visited the exhibition on Friday and was truly impressed. The collection is very, very rich and beautifully presented, with great attention to detail and atmosphere. Every piece seems carefully chosen and displayed with real passion. The staff were all exceptionally kind and helpful, always ready to assist and answer questions. I would especially like to mention the lady who volunteers and hands out the audio guides — she was absolutely wonderful, very kind and welcoming, and made the experience even more pleasant. It’s just a pity that the section with 18th-century paintings wasn’t accessible due to renovation, but that’s understandable — and I’m sure that once it reopens, the whole exhibition will be even more complete. Overall, it was a delightful visit — warm, professional, and inspiring. A truly impressive and rich collection, highly recommended to all art lovers!
Milan P — Google review
Overall, the museum is quite accessible for visitors with disabilities, although there are a few things to keep in mind. The main wheelchair access is not through the front door but via a small lift located on the right side of the building. The lift is a bit hidden, so you might need staff assistance to find it. It’s also quite small — it can only fit one wheelchair and one companion at a time. Once inside, accessibility becomes much easier, with spacious galleries and a larger internal lift connecting the floors. A great feature is that wheelchair users and their companions can enter for free by showing an official disability certificate or doctor’s note. The staff were very friendly and immediately guided us to the accessible entrance without any long wait. An accessible toilet is available near the main lobby, clean and easy to reach. ♿ Accessibility Checklist: ✅ Side entrance lift (small and slightly hidden) ✅ Large internal lift ✅ Accessible toilet ✅ Free entry for wheelchair user + companion ✅ Helpful and kind staff Highly recommended for visitors with disabilities who want to explore art in a calm and inclusive environment. #WheelchairAccessible #AccessibleBudapest #InclusiveTravel #AccessibleByWalkandSee

I visited the exhibition of The Marriage of Heaven and Hell -William Blake and his Contemporaries in October 2025. I have already visited the museum several times. It is worth checking the website because nowadays extra events related to the exhibitions are available, e.g. performances, presentations, degustation of vine, concerts, etc.

Nestled in the heart of Budapest, the Inner-City Church of the Franciscans is a stunning example of Baroque architecture, dating back to the early 1700s. Built on the site of a former mosque after the city was liberated from Turkish rule, this church and its accompanying monastery were completed in 1732 by the Servite Order. Visitors are often captivated by its serene atmosphere and beautifully decorated interiors, which feature numerous alcoves for private prayer.

A beautiful understated church that is one of the most organised down to earth ones I've been to. Free to visit. They have a schedule for confessions with identified priests and languages they speak. OVERALL: I'd recommend as a beautiful quiet space in the city for reflection. It feels less snobby/alienating than most other churches I've ever visited.

The Nyiregyhaza Synagogue, designed by Lipot Baumhorn and completed in 1932, stands as the largest operating house of worship in the county. Adorned with paintings depicting symbols of tribes, constellations, and Biblical scenes, it offers a glimpse into Jewish religious symbolism. Meanwhile, the Dohany Street Synagogue is not only Europe's largest but also a stunning architectural marvel borrowing Moorish styles from North Africa and Spain.
There so many good things about the place that prevented me from giving four stars. The bad thing is that it’s a bit messy. When you enter no one tells you to turn right. No one tells you where to go and expectedly you may get lost of the place and exit before understanding that the places included are soo diverse and even a tour guide is included. The guide was exceptionally nice. And ofc the building was fabulous. PS. I can’t understand why they don’t accept normal student card.

Am not sure why in a Jewish synagogue will have AN ANTISEMITIC CARICATURS FROM 1938 as a souvenir ?? I understand that it’s a part of history but maybe think about how it makes the Jewish visitors feel??! (80% of the visitors probably) Also why there was an audio guide in every single language but Hebrew? It’s a synagogue.. a place where Jews was praying in Hebrew and Jewish tourists - who speaks Hebrew - visit every day in huge numbers disappointing to say the least. Great waste of 30€ . This has to change

The Pauline Cave Church Welcome Center, also known as Saint Ivans Cave, is a fascinating historical site in Budapest. Built by Catholic monks in the 1920s within a large cave system previously used by a hermit monk, it served as a hospital during World War II. After being covered in concrete and its head monk executed by communists post-war, the church was reopened in 1989 following the fall of the Iron Curtain.
The Pauline Cave Church is a unique place full of history and spirituality. Located in the heart of the city, next to the Danube River, this church carved into the rocks on the hillside offers a peaceful atmosphere. Its singular architecture and artistic wooden details make the visit unforgettable. Perfect for those seeking a moment of peace and spiritual connection while exploring the Hungarian capital. A hidden gem worth discovering, along with its rich history presented by the audio guide.

An interesting historical location, where sadly the only place you can see the original stone of the cave is in the restroom. The price is, however, fair enough.

This is where you will purchase your ticket to visit the grounds, cave and chapel. The actual facility inside the cave is small and should not take anyone that long to explore. The cost of entry is very modest and worth the price and there are restrooms inside the center, and it is also where you can see and touch the original stone of the Cave Church.

Nestled beside an artificial lake in City Park, Vajdahunyad Castle is a stunning testament to the evolution of Hungarian architecture. Originally crafted from wood and cardboard for the Millennial Exhibition in 1896, this enchanting structure was so beloved that it was rebuilt in stone and brick by 1908. The castle beautifully showcases a blend of architectural styles, including Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque influences drawn from various landmark buildings across Hungary.
We only enjoyed the outside of it whilst having a walk trough the park but was worth seeing. The lake side has the better views and if you keep walking past the lake side and ‘back bridge’ you’ll find the miniature Dracula who reminded us a lot of the character from Hotel Transylvania!
Mark W — Google review
A short walk behind the grand statues of Heroes' Square is a surprising and delightful place: Vajdahunyad Castle. It's a wonderful, almost storybook-like location, and unlike a true fortress, it feels more like an open-air museum of architectural styles. The castle is a fascinating sight because it’s not a single, cohesive building. It’s a mix of different architectural styles, with parts of it modeled after famous buildings from various parts of Hungary. You can see Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque elements all seamlessly blended together. It's a truly unique and beautiful place to explore. We were lucky to visit during a holiday, and the atmosphere was fantastic. The highlight for us was the medieval stand for play. It was a fun and unexpected addition to the visit, with people in costumes and games that added a sense of excitement and history to the beautiful setting. It’s a great example of how this castle brings the past to life. Vajdahunyad Castle is a wonderful place to walk around, take photos, and simply enjoy the peaceful park setting. It offers a great mix of history, architecture, and a fun atmosphere, making it a highly recommended stop right next to Heroes' Square.

It's not very big but it's the most beautiful castle in Budapest surrounded by large garden with lush greenery and even lake with ducks frolicking around. Many blueberries plants just front of the castle. Can really relax here and enjoy the scenery for whole day. But the castle main entrance has very old wooden gate hanging precariously showing all the sharp planks which looks scary as if will fall on to you when you walk below it.

The St. Stephen I Statue in St. Stephen's Square is a stunning tribute to Hungary's first Christian king, Saint Stephen, who played a pivotal role in the country’s Christianization. The statue, unveiled in 1906, stands proudly in front of **St. Stephen’s Basilica**, making it one of the most iconic and historically significant landmarks in Budapest. The bronze statue is beautifully detailed, showing King Stephen in royal attire holding the Holy Crown of Hungary and a scepter. The pedestal is adorned with carvings that depict moments from his reign, adding depth to the monument’s historical significance. Location-wise, it’s a perfect spot for both history lovers and those simply admiring Budapest’s architecture. The square is bustling with life, and the statue offers great photo opportunities, especially with the Basilica as the backdrop. As a Hungarian national symbol, the statue holds deep cultural importance and represents not only the country’s royal history but also its Christian roots. If you’re in Budapest, it's a must-see for both its artistic value and historical context.

The first Hungarian king who is regarded to be the main figure to christianize the Hungarians. His efforts were recognized greatly by the then pope and was honored by the double cross as a form of veneration for his success. The famous king served the Hungarian monarchy at around late 10th century. The biggest national holiday of the Hungarians- ‘St. Stephen’s Day’ is dedicated to him. The Church of Saint Mary Magdalene in Budapest is a historic site with a restored late-Gothic tower that offers breathtaking views of the city. Originally commissioned by Bela IV of Hungary, it was one of the first Gothic buildings in Budapest and served the Hungarian community. Although damaged during WWII bombings and subsequently torn down by the Communist regime, the four-story tower remains as a memorial to its past.
The Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Budapest has a rich history and unique features. Today, the site is mostly an open-air ruin, with only the bell tower and partial walls remaining. Yes, the Tower….believe me it’s worth climbing the 170 steps to the top via a spiral staircase—the tower offers stunning panoramic views of Budapest’s iconic buildings and the nearby Buda Hills. It’s an ideal spot for photographers, with windows offering views in all directions. At night, the bell tower is beautifully illuminated, making it a striking sight against the Budapest skyline and adding to the ambiance of the historic Castle District

I was a bit claustrophobic climbing up the first set of stairs, but after getting to the second floor it was much better!
Sali K — Google review
You should walk to this church, especially since it's visible from almost everywhere on this hill. It looks impressive from the outside, though not very large in size, but there's nothing interesting inside.
Павел К — Google review
The Mary Magdalene Tower in Budapest’s Castle District is a stunning remnant of the city’s medieval past. Originally part of a 13th-century church, the tower stands tall, offering a glimpse into Hungary’s rich history. Though the church was mostly destroyed during WWII, the tower remains and has been beautifully preserved. Climbing to the top rewards you with breathtaking views of the city, and the Gothic-Baroque architecture adds a unique charm to this historical landmark.
Rutger — Google review
Gorgeous old church ruins with a restored tower that offers stunning views. With a very low entry fee of 1500 HUF, it's absolutely worth climbing the 172 steps to the top just for the view.
Bianca W — Google review
Temporarily closed, but a quiet place. Good for a picnic or rest in the shade and sip a drink.
Kevin S — Google review
The Church of Mary Magdalene itself was built in the 13th century and its exceptionally unfortunate doom is a perfect image of the similarly unlucky history of Hungary. After suffering severe damage during World War II and after being closed to the public for decades, the tall and reconstructed tower welcome visitors again and provides an extraordinary panorama with views to some of the most important buildings of Budapest.
Karol K — Google review
This is a ruin church, only the bell tower is still standing. The original church from the 15th century was destroyed in WW2. You can climb 172 steps to the top to admire the city. The ticket costs 5 euros/adult.

St. Michael's Church in Budapest is a charming and intimate venue that hosts a special concert series featuring classical music performances. The church, though small, boasts exquisite interior and exterior designs, making it a favorite among visitors. As an active church with a small congregation, it is usually open to the public for free visits and religious events. The church also organizes concerts featuring talented artists performing works by renowned composers such as Mozart, Handel, Bach, Vivaldi, and more.
Beautiful church. Worth every bit of my time. Entry is free but it cost €1 to light a candle. It is not far from Central Market so if you happen to visit the market, please take a stroll and visit this beautiful church.
De R — Google review
Free to enter. Two places to light tea lights for €1. Concerts of classical music available every few nights, Wed and Sat in August, starting at 7pm for a one hour performance. Overpriced dining options available nearby, as this is a touristy area a with poor quality items, food, drinks, with inflated prices. See the concert here but dine elsewhere.

The oldest still-operable pipe organ in Budapest is the one in St. Michael's Church. 🔍 Key Information •   This organ was originally built in 1801 by organ builder József Herodek. •   In 1893, the Jägerndorf Rieger company expanded and rebuilt it, retaining its original Late Baroque-style casing and mechanism. •   It now has two rows of keyboards and pedals, and 25 pipe sets.

Felsővízivárosi Szent Anna templom is a stunning Baroque church located in the Buda Castle district of Budapest. Built in the 1700s, it features two impressive towers and a wealth of beautiful paintings, including captivating ceiling murals. The parish was founded in 1390 and re-established in 1687, with the church itself completed in 1761.
Background: Parish was founded in 1390, re-established in 1687, was opened as a pub in 1720 and bought in 1724 by to convert into chapel. It was completed in 1761. One of the Catholic churches in Budapest It is located in Batthyány Square and near to Batthyány tér H metro train. It was close when I visited here. But still stunning during at night... the beauty of the church is impressive. I was amazed by the two towers colored with blue.

It is worth visiting this church and going inside. Although it doesn't look like anything special against the background of other things, it is not to be missed.
Тони К — Google review
Very peaceful place for prayer and rest, as we were touring Buda for the whole day. The church is beautiful, the main altar, side altars and statues, the ceiling fresco. Someone was playing organ when we came in too. It's very close to tram and metro. It's open to visit at around 17, we were very happy that we could enter since we were really unlucky with weddings happening both at reformed and st Matthias church resulting in them being closed.

The two towers of Felsővízivárosi Szent Anna are visible from across the river and from the hills of Buda Castle. It's a relatively small church with attractive murals. It's also open to the public at no charge, a rarity in Budapest.

The reformed church in Szilágyi Dezső Square is a beautiful example of neo-Gothic architecture. It was designed by Samu Pecz and built in 1890. The outside of the church features a sculpture of the architect. The church has been a characteristic element of the cityscape for 125 years, and it is still popular today thanks to its beauty and unique style.
Easy to be overlooked with all of the other beautiful Churches and Cathedrals located in Budapest, however not to be missed is this small but majestic church located on the Buda side of the Danube. With it's unique roof and style it's church yard make a pleasant break from the city. I snapped this shot whilst walking along the river bank.

There you can also find the history of the church in English, German and French too! What I especially liked was the nativity scene outside: so peculiar, contemporary and colourful.

One of the most beautiful church of Budapest. Small but with great acoustic. The vitraux are very impressive. Sometimes this place is used for concerts. It can contain up to 1000 spectators without problem. Sound is propagated through natural acoustic although there is also a good amplification equipment. Located in a centric place this jewel is a must visit to anyone who comes to the city even not Christian. And if you are lucky you might here a celestial music in a concert.

I finally got the chance to enter this imposing church, on a late Sunday afternoon. The inside is rather bare, but the tall and wide structure gives it a nice atmosphere. Hopefully they will make up the front of the church quite soon (already traffic is not allowed) as the square it is in is very lovely.

The church features painted glass windows depicting Christ the Teacher and an ethereal canopied altar. The community here is close-knit and welcoming, offering services for Greek Catholic diasporas in Budapest.

I attended the Saturday evening Divine Liturgy (at 5.30pm). It was beautiful. I did not understand it as I do not speak Hungarian but the beauty of the Catholic faith is that it transcends language. Nestled in the heart of Budapest, the Budapest City Hall - Mayor's Office is a stunning Baroque structure that dates back to 1727. Originally constructed as a residence for war veterans, it underwent significant transformation in 1894 to serve as a city hall complex. This monumental building not only houses the Metropolitan Municipality but also stands as a testament to the city's rich history and architectural beauty.
Beautiful and iconic building
Hilly — Google review
The Budapest Metropolitan Municipality is the last proud bastion of freedom and democracy in Hungary — a shining citadel of resistance surrounded by a sea of loyalist counties. The Ukrainian and rainbow flags flutter defiantly from its windows, as if to say: “Yes, we still have functioning frontal lobes here.” While elsewhere, tricolors wave obediently to the rhythm of propaganda and concrete is poured over dissent, the capital clings to Western ideals like a stubborn weed in a well-sprayed national garden. Here, liberalism isn’t just a dirty word hurled at protests — it’s still printed on banners, alongside hashtags and EU logos. And though the rest of the country might mistake conformity for patriotism, in Budapest, hanging a rainbow flag is considered an act of both aesthetic and political sophistication. Because let’s face it — when democracy in your homeland is on life support, at least someone should be adjusting the oxygen. Long live the capital — where the last city light still flickers, dim but unfiltered.

(Translated by Google) Budapest has been in decline since the mayoral election in 2019. You can look at the numbers and see how residents are fleeing the city and moving out to the agglomeration. It's dirty, smelly, and even overgrown because the public areas are not kept in order. They're tearing down a few bee grazing signs, but someone should tell them that bees don't collect pollen, they collect pollen! It's a shame what this city has become. (Original) Budapest azóta hanyatlik, hogy 2019-ben főpolgármester-választás volt. Meg lehet nézni a számokat, hogy menekülnek a városból a lakók, és inkább kiköltöznek az agglomerációba. Rented 2 scooters for 2 days to see the city at our own pace along with our teenage kids (who sometimes want to shop) . Had a blast of a time, kids loved it. You can get almost everywhere (bus lane allowed). Extra bonus is the gsm holder on the bikes so you can use google maps on your own phone and also the bike luggage boxes (at the back for both helmets ) . The rental company was very helpfull and I really recommend them ! The deposite is by reserve on your creditcard, when everything is in order when returning the bikes the deposite is credited .

We loved our moped/scooter tour with Andras! Initially I thought it would be nice to rent scooters and cruise around on our own, but there are so many great places to see in Budapest it would have been really hard to navigate them all on our own. Andras was a brilliant guide, taking us to places the buses don’t go, and explaining history and fun facts along the way. Our ride was safe, very informative and a fun adventurous way to see the beautiful city of Budapest. Thank you so much Andras! Can’t wait to come back and cruise around again.

Nestled amidst the bustling traffic of Rakoczi ut, the Chapel of Saint Roch is a charming Baroque structure that often goes unnoticed. This quaint chapel was built as a gesture of gratitude following a devastating plague epidemic in 1710, serving as a memorial for those who suffered. Its location near where plague victims were quarantined adds to its historical significance, and it stands proudly dedicated to Saint Roch, the patron saint of those afflicted by disease.
Interesting fact: on the side of the chapel you can visibly see a "line" that divides light and dark parts of the sidewall. This line shows where the level of water was during Great Flood of 1838. Anyways, nice-looking chapel!
