St. Stephen's Basilica is a grand Roman Catholic church in Budapest, built between 1851 and 1905. It holds regular concerts and is a significant site in Hungarian history, as it stands on Saint Stephen Square, named after the first Hungarian king. The square is also the center of celebrations for Hungary's greatest holiday on August 20th, dedicated to King Stephen.
I've been to many churches, but this one was one of the most beautiful I've seen in Europe. You should definitely visit. There are different ticket options, but I bought the full package and experienced everything there is to see. You can also see the entire city from the terrace. While the stairs can be a little scary, they're quite safe and have a wonderful history. This place is definitely worth a visit.

St. Stephen’s Basilica (Szent István Bazilika) – A Must-See Gem in Budapest St. Stephen’s Basilica is one of Budapest’s most breathtaking landmarks — a perfect blend of history, spirituality, and stunning architecture. The moment you step inside, you’re greeted by magnificent marble columns, golden domes, and intricate frescoes that truly showcase Hungary’s artistic heritage. The panoramic view from the dome is absolutely worth the climb — it offers one of the best 360° views of Budapest, especially at sunset when the city glows in warm golden light. The ascent is surprisingly smooth, with both stairs and an elevator option for convenience. The atmosphere inside is peaceful and reverent, even though it’s one of the city’s most visited attractions. The soft organ music often playing in the background adds to the divine feel of the place. If you’re lucky, you might catch a live concert — the acoustics here are world-class. It’s named after Hungary’s first king, St. Stephen, and even houses his mummified right hand, which is fascinating to see up close. The entry is free, but a small donation is encouraged and completely worth it for maintaining this masterpiece. 📸 Tip: Visit during the golden hour or in the evening when the basilica’s exterior is beautifully illuminated — it’s a photographer’s dream. Overall, St. Stephen’s Basilica is not just a religious monument — it’s a cultural and architectural treasure that captures the spirit of Budapest.
Rajwinder D — Google review
What a beautiful church. The details are incredible. We went to a concert tonight - the music was beautiful. Definitely recommend! Also, go to the Panoramic viewpoint. You can take the elevator up partway, but you still need to climb several floors of stairs- but it was so cool to see the cement structure of the dome!
Tena S — Google review
An architectural masterpiece and one of the most awe-inspiring places I’ve ever visited. The scale, detail, and symmetry of the interiors are unreal - gold and marble everywhere, and the dome feels endless. Climbing up to the viewing terrace (€6-€8) is completely worth it: the panoramic view of Budapest, from the Parliament to the Buda hills, is easily one of the best in the city. You can feel the reverence in the air; even with crowds, there’s a hush that fits its grandeur. Tip: Time your visit just before sunset - watching the golden light fall over the city from the top is a memory you’ll keep forever.
Neel B — Google review
This church is one of my mom’s favorites, and during our visit to Budapest it quickly became one of mine as well. It’s definitely a must-see. You do need a ticket to enter, but purchasing them online is simple, and entry times are clearly scheduled. The area outside can get quite busy, yet inside the basilica it feels calm and organized. The architecture is stunning, and after your visit there are plenty of dining options nearby.
BA — Google review
Hello! The in-person ticket office is across the street (off ground), so be aware. The line to get tickets was not long at all. The basilica and panoramic view combination is the best value. There is a discount for seniors (65 years and older). The basilica is a wonder to see! There are many alcoves as well as central seating. Don’t forget to look up as the ceilings are also quite beautiful to see. The entrance for the panoramic view area is near the main entrance and you don’t have to exit the basilica to access. Your choice on walking up the 304 steps or taking a lift to get to the third floor. A second lift gets you up to the panoramic area - there is a limit to four persons per car on that second lift. On the way back down, visit the Treasury for a break in those 304 steps. Enjoy!

St. Stephen’s Basilica in Budapest looks beautiful from the outside, with a detailed neoclassical facade and towers that stand out from afar. Even without going inside — the interior visit requires a ticket — it’s worth stopping to admire and take photos. One of the most beautiful spots in the city.
Luana B — Google review
Magnificent! I am glad I went into the hall. When step inside, I am overwhelmed in a symphony of gold leaf, embedded frescoes, and natural light streaming through etched windows. The church is nestled in the vibrant heart of Budapest's District V, and stands as one of the city's most iconic landmarks, dedicated to Hungary's first king, Saint Stephen I. This neoclassical masterpiece, completed in 1905 after over 50 years of construction (delayed by revolutions, a dome collapse, and multiple architects), rivals the Hungarian Parliament in height at 96 meters, symbolizing the equal stature of spiritual and secular power in Hungary. With a capacity for 8,500 worshippers and intricate details like over 50 types of marble in its sculptures, it's not just a church—it's a testament to resilience and artistry.

The Hungarian State Opera House in Budapest is a neoclassical venue adorned with ceiling frescoes and statues of composers, offering opera and ballet performances as well as guided tours. It's a captivating destination for opera and theater enthusiasts, architecture aficionados, and those who appreciate grandeur and artistic heritage. The opulent interiors and world-class performances make it a must-visit for anyone seeking a unique cultural experience.
What a stunning building, left completely untouched by the bombs of the world wars. Even if you don't like opera, the tour is informative and lets you see inside its stunning interiors from painted ceilings, ornate handcrafted hardwood fixtures and and abundance of different marble to the exquisite auditorium and massive stage. The tour ends with an short performance which I really enjoyed.
Gary C — Google review
The Hungarian State Opera House is located on the famous Andrássy Avenue in the center of Budapest. Its building is massive and magnificent, in neo-Renaissance style. From the information I obtained from the internet, it was built in 1884 and has the status of a World Heritage Site. Unfortunately, I did not have the opportunity to visit it inside, I hope I have the chance to do it next time.
Cri B — Google review
This one may be smaller than the Vienna State opera House, but it may be more beautiful. Just amazing architecture and breathtaking beauty every direction you look. Take the tour, it is with the money.
S T — Google review
Amazing place. Magnificent both inside and outside. Really liked sound here. Enjoyed the best opera in my life. Unfortunately that was terribly hot on the top balconies, but that’s what you have to face while visiting such a historic place. I wish the prices in the bar where lower, but nobody forbids you bringing your own water.
Dzmitry U — Google review
We visited Symphony no. 8 and it was great, so many talented people in one show!!! The Opera itself also worth visiting, looks gorgeous and so royal, not like Vienna’s Opera. This one looks very well maintained and renovated, every sitting place is equipped with subtitles monitor. We had a great evening as family at this place.
Maria A — Google review
One hour tour. First 30 minutes sitting inside the Opera house listening to its history and architecture. Almost fall into sleep. The rest touring the house is good and end with a short wonderful opera performance.
Van L — Google review
Gorgeous & a must-visit for tourists. Check for timing on English tours & buy tickets in advance. Our tour was fantastically informative & the photo-ops were breathtaking. Best of all - our tour concluded with a LIVE OPERA PERFORMANCE on the grand staircase by a duo of artists from the opera company!!! FANTASTIC!!!
Madelyn B — Google review
Don’t let the exterior of this building fool you, it may look like just “another historical landmark “ , because the moment you step inside you will be wow-ed by the ornate decor, the opulent designs and most importantly the high profile notes and echos through the hallway

The Hungarian National Museum in Budapest is a historical museum that houses a wide range of cultural artifacts, archaeological items, documents, coins, and paintings. It is one of the earliest specialized museums in Europe and has a rich history dating back to 1872. The museum's collection includes pieces from East Asia as well as ethnographical artifacts from the Northern Urals.
Not a huge museum, but it is absolutely worth a visit. The museum could use more signage, many people were accidentally going through the exhibits backwards (its a timeline). Great info - some plaques had English but most were Hungarian. Museum shop is well stocked, and there is a coffee shop on the same floor. Storage lockers require coins.
Nick W — Google review
I highly recommend this Museum as your very first stop in Budapest! The history of Hungary is well-organized and presented in an engaging manner! You will better appreciate everything else this beautiful city and rich national culture have to offer! Prioritize the history portion if you don’t have much time. It is worth it! Must-sees: King St. Stephen’s coronation mantle from 1,000 years ago and Beethoven’s piano that was given to Liszt after Beethoven’s death and he, in turn, donated to the Museum. If you have time, visit everything! There is a temporary exhibition that, in my opinion, presents the best concept ever! Fantastic content, pertinent message, immersive audio-visual effects, and much more! The video attached does not make justice to it but it gives you an idea! The Museum offers a Café and a Gift Shop! Many books in English, French, Spanish, and German, including handy Budapest guides. Definitely visit this place! You won’t regret!!!
Giovani B — Google review
Wonderful experience! We visited there on a national day, hence it was free entry. The interior of the museum is spectacular, and the contents are very rich; from Hungarian history, to the modern scientific development. You could definitely spend a whole afternoon there. Very recommended!
Minnie L — Google review
Compared to the Budapest History Museum, it has a smaller collection related to Budapest’s history, but its interior is stunning. It features an impressive array of military artifacts, including chain mail and various types of firearms and surprisingly visitors can touch these replica collections. It takes 1.5hours to visit the regular exhibition.
HSY — Google review
The Hungarian National Museum was a very interesting experience. It has many fascinating exhibits and covers the entire history of Hungary. It is recommended to spend at least 3 to 4 hours there. However, the staff could be more polite towards visitors.
Tamari — Google review
Interesting museum that covers a tonne of Hungarian history. I know Hungary has a separate military history museum (which is currently closed) but I was surprised at how little military history there is. There is the ending of the museum sequence but this is more focused on the Nazis and the Soviets (emphasis on the latter). I would agree with other reviewers that it was odd having to get your ticket checked so many times (and that the people checking the tickets couldn't show anymore that they'd rather be elsewhere).
Anil B — Google review
Really annoying concept with a ticket, there are 4 “parts” of the museum and you will be asked to show your ticket in every single one, instead on the entrance only. Museum itself is okay, although there is no any logical order, any unique or traditional stuff - the only extraordinary thing is Beethoven’s and Listz’s piano. A lot of, let’s say “twisted” historical facts that are not really true and really not a lot to do/see. However, ticket price is fairly cheap and still this might be okayish way to spend time in Budapest. PS. There are ticket machines on the sides, if you want to avoid a huge line.
Darko L — Google review
The Hungarian National Museum is a great stop if you’re into history—or even if you’re just curious. The building itself is grand and beautiful, and the inside is packed with fascinating stuff, from ancient artifacts to modern exhibits that walk you through Hungary’s story. Everything’s well-organized, and there are English descriptions throughout, which makes it really easy to follow. Even just wandering the museum feels like a step back in time. Definitely worth a visit if you want to get a feel for the country’s past.

St. Michael's Church in Budapest is a charming and intimate venue that hosts a special concert series featuring classical music performances. The church, though small, boasts exquisite interior and exterior designs, making it a favorite among visitors. As an active church with a small congregation, it is usually open to the public for free visits and religious events. The church also organizes concerts featuring talented artists performing works by renowned composers such as Mozart, Handel, Bach, Vivaldi, and more.
Beautiful church. Worth every bit of my time. Entry is free but it cost €1 to light a candle. It is not far from Central Market so if you happen to visit the market, please take a stroll and visit this beautiful church.
De R — Google review
Free to enter. Two places to light tea lights for €1. Concerts of classical music available every few nights, Wed and Sat in August, starting at 7pm for a one hour performance. Overpriced dining options available nearby, as this is a touristy area a with poor quality items, food, drinks, with inflated prices. See the concert here but dine elsewhere.
Justice Q — Google review
The oldest still-operable pipe organ in Budapest is the one in St. Michael's Church. 🔍 Key Information •   This organ was originally built in 1801 by organ builder József Herodek. •   In 1893, the Jägerndorf Rieger company expanded and rebuilt it, retaining its original Late Baroque-style casing and mechanism. •   It now has two rows of keyboards and pedals, and 25 pipe sets.
SOFIA C — Google review
Magnificent Baroque church and sound of organ ( J S Bach and Vivaldi) . It was a concert by Teleki Miklos, organist and pianist- this breathtaking experience I will never forget.

The Hungarian Parliament Building, a stunning example of neo-Gothic architecture, is a must-see landmark in Budapest. Situated along the Danube River, it boasts lavishly decorated rooms and towering spires that captivate architectural enthusiasts and history buffs alike. Families with older children interested in history and politics will also find the site intriguing. To avoid long lines, booking a tour in advance is recommended.
The Hungarian Parliament Building is one of the most impressive landmarks in Budapest. The architecture is stunning, with incredible details that reflect the city’s rich history and culture. Even from the outside, the view is breathtaking, especially when seen from across the Danube River. The building looks magnificent both during the day and beautifully lit up at night. It’s a must-visit spot for anyone coming to Budapest, whether for a quick photo stop or a full guided tour.
Saeed B — Google review
This is really an impressive building and worth of sightseeing from inside as well. They have prepared the guides in many languages which is very good so people or not limited to english only. It woould be better that the tour was a bit longer and probably more detailed but overall it was fine. Thr big remark goes to the price for entrance which is huge!
Travel — Google review
The Hungarian Parliament Building at night is breathtaking. As darkness settles over Budapest, the entire Gothic Revival masterpiece glows with a golden light that reflects across the Danube, creating a mirror image so perfect it feels dreamlike. Seen from the Buda side, the building dominates the skyline, every spire and arch illuminated with precision. The reflection rippling in the river gives the scene a kind of quiet grandeur that photographs never quite capture. Up close on the Pest side, the building feels even more impressive. The sheer scale, the intricate carvings, and the warm glow of the stone make it clear why it’s one of Europe’s architectural treasures. At night, the Parliament isn’t just a government seat—it’s a symbol of the country’s history, pride, and resilience, standing tall against the dark sky. The best time to visit is after sunset, when the crowds thin and the city slows down. Walk along the Danube promenade, pause on the Chain Bridge, or simply sit by the water and watch the lights flicker. It’s one of those views that remind you why travel matters: moments of stillness and awe that stay with you long after you’ve left.
TheMindisCurious — Google review
One of the most magnificent buildings in all of Europe, pure architectural poetry on the banks of the Danube. The neo-Gothic spires, symmetry, and sheer scale are jaw-dropping, especially when seen from across the river or from a Danube night cruise. Up close, the craftsmanship is even more intricate, statues, arches, and details that feel almost unreal. It’s stunning by day but beyond magical at night, when it glows gold against the dark river. Tip: Skip the guided tour if short on time - the real magic is outside, especially at sunset from the opposite bank or from Fisherman’s Bastion.
Neel B — Google review
The Hungarian Parliament Building is one of the most stunning landmarks in Europe. Built in a Neo-Gothic style with pointed towers and intricate details, it dominates the Danube’s riverside skyline. Even if you don’t go inside (the interior visit is paid), it’s absolutely worth admiring from the outside. For the best view, head to the Buda side — the sight of the Parliament reflecting on the river is simply unforgettable.
Luana B — Google review
The Hungarian Parliament Building is one of the most magnificent landmarks in Budapest and a symbol of Hungary’s national pride. Completed in 1904, it was inspired by the British Parliament in London and built in Neo-Gothic style, with stunning spires, arches, and a grand central dome. Located along the banks of the Danube River, it offers a breathtaking view both by day and night, especially when illuminated. Inside, visitors can admire the Holy Crown of Hungary, ornate halls, and impressive architecture. Truly one of the most beautiful parliamentary buildings in the world.
Patrizia P — Google review
One of the most stunning structures I've seen. Incredibly beautiful. From all sides. From any distance. Top 1 in Budapest. The photos look unreal, but they're real!) I highly recommend a tour inside. It lasts about an hour. Available in different languages. You definitely need to book in advance for a specific time, because the number of spots is limited. You might wait a couple of hours if you don't book. This is an active government building, so there are security measures - you need to arrive at least 10-15 minutes before your scheduled time. Of course there are items that are prohibited from bringing inside. Regarding the parliament inside. Very atmospheric. A completely different style than the exterior. In my opinion there's too much gold) but it's definitely worth it
Павел К — Google review
Sadly Parliament was in session and so we couldn’t do an inside tour but the outside of the building is mesmerising; especially at night. Birds hover and fly over it presumably catching all the insects the lights attract but the why they glimmer in the light make them look like moving starts. It is a wonderful sight to see. Also ensure you check out the front as they have a reflective pool which offers some unique pictures too. Love how open the building still is not yet ruined by over burdensome security measures.

The House of Terror Museum in the Terezvaros neighborhood of Pest's District VI is a poignant memorial to the victims of Hungary's Nazi and Soviet regimes. It offers a compelling insight into the nation's history, resilience, and the impact of oppressive regimes through thought-provoking exhibits. The museum is recommended for history buffs, human rights advocates, and those interested in modern European history.
Get the audio guide! Especially if you dont speak Hungarian. The museum was great all around. Staff was attentive and helpful. The audio guide was great. The museum isnt big, and thus does not have any seating along the way, but is packed with information and exhibits. Some are pretty immersive as well. The basement cells and tank were especially well done. Worth a visit!
Nick W — Google review
Great art direction of the museum. You don't get to know the actual history cause everything is in Hungarian and the only English are on a paper in each different room that summarizes what are you going to see in that room
Kostasidel — Google review
I can’t recommend this museum. It’s overly pompous, yet surprisingly small, bad structured and without an (audio) guide it becomes almost entirely uninformative - at least for a foreigner. There are no labels on the exhibits, only some leaflets. Unlike in real museums, where you can learn from the objects themselves, here you can’t – everything feels random. There were many bored students and elderly visitors who seemed unsure why they had even come. In the end, the whole place feels to me more as propaganda than education. Definitely not recommended.
Ivan N — Google review
Definitely not worth the price. I highly recommend not going. There is almost no English description at any exhibition in such a touristic museum, which is quite embarrassing. Without buying the audio guide, you won’t understand anything at all.

Luckily we were there on 23 October National Day so it was a free admission day, otherwise I don’t feel want to pay 10 💶for this😂 It was a loooooong line outside we waited like more than 1 hour. It was super full in the museum all rooms are packed with students and tourists. All displays are not in English so it’s hard to follow.

This museum is very interesting and deals with the post WWII Hungary till the fall of the iron curtain. I highly recommend the audio headsets. Each room has a separate audio explanation. It will only move forward till you move to the next roo.. another plus is bathroo s on each floor.

Brilliant museum, well put together and the audio guide was especially impressive. A must visit for those interested in the Nazi/Soviet occupation of Hungary.

Great history museum. The audioguide is a 10 out of 10. To improve, it made me uncomfortable to see some of the staff standing for hours, at the outside and inside entrances. They should do short one hour turns in those hard positions. But great museum.

Buda Castle, located on Castle Hill, is a UNESCO World Heritage site that offers a captivating journey through Hungarian history. The complex houses the Hungarian National Gallery, showcasing an extensive collection of art spanning from Gothic altars to contemporary works by renowned international and Hungarian artists. Visitors can admire pieces by French Impressionists like Monet and Pissarro as well as prominent Hungarian painters such as Munkacsy and Csontvary.
Castle with a lot Hungarian history. You can see much of the castle without buying any tickets. The real highlight is that you can get a good view of the Hungarian parliament as well as the bridge from here. It also lights up at night which looks nice if you’re looking at the castle from below or from the other side

Buda Castle in Budapest is absolutely spectacular. From the moment you arrive, the scale and elegance of the castle are breathtaking. The panoramic views of the Danube and Pest side are incredible, especially from the terrace. Inside, the museums offer fascinating exhibitions that mix history, art, and culture, making it more than just a sightseeing spot. The castle grounds themselves are wonderful to wander, with charming streets, courtyards, and little cafes where you can take a break and soak in the atmosphere. It’s a place where history and beauty come together perfectly and definitely deserves plenty of time to explore.

Definitely worth visiting when in Budapest. Great views of the Pest side from the castle. It is truly spectacular at night with the lights on. There was a lot of restoration work being done so the scaffolding and equipment takes away some of the beauty of this place.

Very big castle and ancient architecture. I have went in the correct time. Because there is rennovation going on one side. Top view will be good for taking photos (chain bridge + Hungarian parliment ) from here..

One of the most spectacular landmarks! Wonderful! Definitely worth a visit. We took the shuttle service which made the whole trip very pleasant, and retained ample energy to visit many interesting spots along the way! It was relatively hot weather so the shuttle was extra helpful. But there is also a public bus service that we realised later.

Magical Walk Through History – Castle Hill, Budapest Visiting Castle Hill in Budapest was one of the highlights of my trip to Hungary. This entire area is a stunning blend of history, culture, and breathtaking views, making it a must-see for any traveler. Perched above the Danube on the Buda side of the city, Castle Hill offers a peaceful escape from the busy streets below. The majestic Buda Castle dominates the skyline and houses both the Hungarian National Gallery and the Budapest History Museum—perfect for anyone interested in art, heritage, and architecture. Just a short walk away is the iconic Matthias Church, with its colorful tiled roof and intricate interior, as well as the fairy-tale-like Fisherman’s Bastion, which offers panoramic views over the river and Parliament building—especially magical at sunset. The cobblestone streets, charming courtyards, and well-preserved medieval atmosphere make the entire district feel like stepping into another time. There are cozy cafés, artisan shops, and quiet gardens to explore, including the beautifully restored Várkert Bazár at the foot of the hill. Whether you're into history, photography, or simply soaking in local culture, Castle Hill has something for everyone. I highly recommend spending a full day here—you’ll leave with unforgettable memories and a deeper appreciation for Budapest’s rich past.

Nestled beside an artificial lake in City Park, Vajdahunyad Castle is a stunning testament to the evolution of Hungarian architecture. Originally crafted from wood and cardboard for the Millennial Exhibition in 1896, this enchanting structure was so beloved that it was rebuilt in stone and brick by 1908. The castle beautifully showcases a blend of architectural styles, including Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque influences drawn from various landmark buildings across Hungary.
We only enjoyed the outside of it whilst having a walk trough the park but was worth seeing. The lake side has the better views and if you keep walking past the lake side and ‘back bridge’ you’ll find the miniature Dracula who reminded us a lot of the character from Hotel Transylvania!
Mark W — Google review
A short walk behind the grand statues of Heroes' Square is a surprising and delightful place: Vajdahunyad Castle. It's a wonderful, almost storybook-like location, and unlike a true fortress, it feels more like an open-air museum of architectural styles. The castle is a fascinating sight because it’s not a single, cohesive building. It’s a mix of different architectural styles, with parts of it modeled after famous buildings from various parts of Hungary. You can see Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque elements all seamlessly blended together. It's a truly unique and beautiful place to explore. We were lucky to visit during a holiday, and the atmosphere was fantastic. The highlight for us was the medieval stand for play. It was a fun and unexpected addition to the visit, with people in costumes and games that added a sense of excitement and history to the beautiful setting. It’s a great example of how this castle brings the past to life. Vajdahunyad Castle is a wonderful place to walk around, take photos, and simply enjoy the peaceful park setting. It offers a great mix of history, architecture, and a fun atmosphere, making it a highly recommended stop right next to Heroes' Square.

It's not very big but it's the most beautiful castle in Budapest surrounded by large garden with lush greenery and even lake with ducks frolicking around. Many blueberries plants just front of the castle. Can really relax here and enjoy the scenery for whole day. But the castle main entrance has very old wooden gate hanging precariously showing all the sharp planks which looks scary as if will fall on to you when you walk below it.

Vajdahunyad Castle is an amazing spot for anyone visiting Budapest. Built in the late 19th century, it sits inside City Park, a beautiful and peaceful place to walk or relax. Close to Heroes’ Square, it’s perfect for photos and to experience a bit of Hungarian history and architecture in one visit.

Very interesting place. Recommend to see on your visit. Modeled after Dracula's castle. The original structure was built in the latter part of the 1800's of temporary cardboard and wood to celebrate the 1000 year birthday.

Art Museums
The Vasarely Museum in Budapest is a must-visit destination for art enthusiasts. It is located in the Zichy Mansion, which was built in 1757 and houses a large collection of works by Victor Vasarely, the renowned op art painter and sculptor. The museum features over 150 of his pieces, showcasing his unique style of geometric abstract art. Visitors can also enjoy temporary exhibitions that add to the visual experience.
I have always loved the later works of Vasarely, and as a teacher of art history, I’ve always loved seeing my students decide they like abstract art after all once they have seen his works. It’s a wonder to them that he did these without the aid of computer software and that he’s messing with our perception. Coming to the museum was an awesome experience because it helps the visitor trace his development over his long and productive artistic career. The ground floor houses works from his earlier years, including his figurative works, as well as his early experimentation with shifting perspectives. The upper floor is filled with his wonderful Op Art works — large scale, glowing with bold colors, and seeing to expand off the canvas into our space. The wall text is extremely helpful, and museum as a whole is terrific.
Marsha R — Google review
Settled permanently in the fairy-tale Zichy palace, the exhibition is vast and carries some really landmark Vasarely works. The H5 train connection makes it super easy to visit, even for people that don’t know the Budapest transport system. Given the importance of the works here, the authorities could maybe create more of a ‘buzz’ about the place: visitors’s reception centre, enlarged shop, for instance. But well worth getting on that H5 to Szentlélek.
C N — Google review
This is a museum devoted to the work of Hungarian-French artist Victor Vasarely. It feels a little isolated and under appreciated but this museum is well worth a visit. You'll probably have the galleries to yourself and that's fine. More time and space to appreciate the work of this artist. Inside the museum compound is a garden that has a few chairs and a nice place to relax. The museum is easy to get to by public transport. We rode a bike there and caught a train back to central Budapest. The train stop, Szentlélek tér, is literally outside the museum.

I really love this museum , was one of my bucket list places to visit and I do not have any regrets!!! What a great place, lots of his art work and biography also it was a pretty large museum, the only thing is a little out of the way , if you get the app of “Bolt” which is like Uber but faster you would get there in no time, the have buses and train but I did not want to deal with getting around and getting lost on a boat or train…
Pedro A — Google review
Located off the beaten path. Very nice exhibit space located in a house. The second floor is gorgeous. One can clearly see the evolution of Vasarely's art journey. The whole second floor has gorgeous pieces that tickles your brain. You have to enter the gift shop in order to get to the yard and towards the ticket counters. It is quiet and quite cool in the building. The yard is also enjoyable with shade. One of my favorite places in Budapest.

House of Music Hungary, inaugurated in January 2022, is a cultural center dedicated to music located in Pests City Wood. Designed by Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto, the 9,000m2 building seamlessly integrates with its natural surroundings through uninterrupted glass volumes and a perforated roof structure. The venue includes concert halls, exhibition spaces, an open-air stage where full-size trees grow through the building, and an interior that features live music and a museum.
Was unexpected to go but turned out to be the best experience. We enjoyed this gem throughout. Everything from the landscape, the pavilion to the temporary exhibition were impressive. The building obviously helped to create the overall spatial connection but the exhibition was well put together too. Loved it.

I recently visited the House of Music (Zene haza) in Budapest, and it was an absolutely unforgettable experience! From the moment I stepped inside, I was captivated by the stunning architecture—the wavy, nature-inspired design and the light-filled spaces create a harmonious and uplifting atmosphere. The exhibitions are interactive, engaging, and beautifully curated, making music come alive in the most creative ways. Whether you're a classical music lover or a fan of modern beats, there’s something for everyone. The sound installations, historical displays, and hands-on exhibits made learning about music both fun and inspiring. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, adding to the welcoming vibe. The surrounding Városliget (City Park) is the perfect place for a stroll before or after your visit. If you're in Budapest, don’t miss this gem—it’s a celebration of music, culture, and innovation that will leave you feeling inspired. **Highly recommended!**

The House of Music Hungary is a cultural center that stands out for its beautiful exterior architecture, located within a charming park near Vajdahunyad Castle and Heroes’ Square. I loved so much the experience and the fact that every room had an interactive way of teaching, either through visuals or a short tutorial for dancing. The fact that every room and every section of the room could connect to your headphones and play a sound was truly so fun and also captivating. We spent a good amount of time here and for a cold day in December this was the perfect activity to do while our visit here. I will leave some photos without giving too many spoilers, because this place really deserves a visit.

I was walking around the City Park in Budapest and came accross the House of Music Hungary where a band was rehearsing. It sounded pretty good so I went back in the evening to attend their open air concert at the House of Music. It was a great experience. Good progressive rock in the beautiful surroundings. You have to see and experience It to know what I mean. And remember: Be quiet and do not talk while the musicians are performing. Do as the Hungarians and pay attention to the performers.

The amazing House of Hungarian Music, located in the 200-year-old city park of the capital, offers not only aesthetic but also auditory experiences. The architectural design by the Japanese studio SOU FUJIMOTO ARCHITECTS is part of Liget Budapest — the largest cultural revitalization project in Europe, involving the construction and modernization of cultural institutions within the park’s green areas. The architecture is inspired by a forest of sounds. There are very interesting concerts and lectures held here. When you’re in Budapest, it’s always worth checking out what’s happening at this place.

Such a cool museum. Even our friend with very little musical background really enjoyed it. And the way the museum uses technology to present the content is really fantastic. Our permanent exhibit ticket was for entry at 16:15, with a museum closing time of 6pm. We thought that would be long enough, but I really wish we’d had another 20-30 min.

Dürer Kert is one of the music venues and night club for rock, indie and electronic music in Budapest especially live performances. It has a big hall and big scene and also second hall. There are really famous local groups performing. Since 2021 their new place is huge and There is a bar, you can buy ticket online and on the premises. Only not-well-planned part is cloak room, at winter, there is a long queue to give and take away your belongings. It has a spacious garden looking at Danube with hammocks, to play table ball, petanque and to grill or cook in cauldron (to cook gulyas leves : ) and required material even fuel is provided by Durer Kert personnel) It has a huge car park with Wheelchair-accessible car park. Wheelchair-accessible entrance, toilet and seating is available. You can go there by bus as well, 133 is the closest one. The venue is a little far to the city center and not easy to reach. But by car, they have a huge car park as I said. You can buy ticket online from their website or queue before the concert, but recommend to go there in advance and chill at the place.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A truly great spot for live music and laid-back summer evenings! We went to a small weekday concert by the Platon Karataev Duo, and the atmosphere was wonderful. The garden is beautifully lit after dark, creating a very pleasant vibe. There were four open drink stations, so no long lines, and the prices were fair. Another big plus: Dürer Kert is right by the Danube, just walk down the steps and you’re at the water. All in all, highly recommended; we’ll gladly come back!

The site appeals to romantics, photographers, and travelers seeking picture-perfect vistas. Come here for the best views of the Hungarian parliament. They make you pay to actually go up a floor but everything else is free access. To be honest I don’t suggest getting the ticket since the view from elsewhere here is just as good.

Incredibly beautiful. You can walk around much of it without having to pay. If you want to have full access to the top you can either go to one of the restaurants attached. However you can always see panoramic views of the city for free from multiple other locations nearby. But breath taking photos nonetheless.

After the Parliament building this was the most impactful building in Budapest in terms of its striking beauty and architecture. It was very Harry Potter’est looking in places. We walked up there ourselves starting at the Buda Castle and walking along the top which is the best way to explore the area. You can only enter the ramparts of the building with a ticket but you get equal views without having to go on the ramparts. It’s also stunning at night. Don’t forget to also check out the presidential palace near by.

Loved this place so much, visited multiple times during the holiday, day and night. Misunderstood what it's first, as its only few towers and a defence wall kind of structure with a restaurant in one of the passage ways, no museum. The whole structure glows with warm lights, reflecting beautifully on the Danube River and creating a breathtaking view of the illuminated Parliament and Buda Castle. The atmosphere feels peaceful yet full of life — perfect for an evening stroll or photos. Definitely one of the highlights of Budapest that shouldn’t be missed!

Such a lovely bridge! The Széchenyi Chain Bridge isn’t just beautiful, it tells stories with every stone and chain. It’s the first permanent link between Buda and Pest, built in the mid-1800s. I loved the elegant lions at each entrance (and the fun local legend about their tongues!), the sweeping views over the Danube, and how the lights at night turn the whole thing into a fairytale. Also really admire the resilience, destroyed in World War II, then lovingly rebuilt. Definitely more than just a bridge, it feels like a symbol of unity and history.

The Central Market Hall in Budapest is a restored neogothic hall that offers a diverse shopping and dining experience. The ground floor features grocery produce, including Hungarian paprika, fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese, meat, pastries, wine, chocolate, and jams. On the first floor, visitors can find souvenirs and various food stands offering a wide range of culinary delights. This three-story market is an ideal place to shop for local goods while enjoying lunch and picking up souvenirs.
The building was designed and built by Samu Pecz in 1897. The market offers a wide variety of stalls on three floors. The entrance gate has a neo-Gothic touch. A special architectural feature is the roof, which was renovated with colorful Zsolnay tiles from Pécs. The building is 10,000 square meters in size and is covered with a steel structure. During the Second World War, the market was heavily damaged. It was not until 1991 that a thorough renovation was undertaken, which restored it to its original splendor. The building was reopened in 1997, and in 1999 it was awarded the FIABCI Prix d'Excellence. The Central Market is still one of the city's most popular tourist attractions. Most of the stalls on the ground floor offer produce, meat, pastries, sweets, spices and spirits. You can find paprika spice, Tokaj wine, Túró Rudi, kolbász sausages and salamis there. On the second mezzanine floor there are restaurants and stalls selling tourist souvenirs. In the basement there are fishmongers, stalls with selected vegetables and a few specialized butchers.
Erik V — Google review
It is a pleasant location to explore and capture memorable photographs. The scenery offers ample opportunities for creative compositions and stunning visuals. Although the surroundings are beautiful, the dining experience could be improved. Hopefully, future visits will bring enhancements to the culinary offerings. Overall, it remains a lovely place to visit.

We visited the market hall on a Sunday and were really impressed. The building itself is beautiful, and there are many different stalls offering local delicacies. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the people were very friendly. The only downside was that, since it was Sunday, some of the stalls were closed. Because of that, I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5. Still, it’s definitely worth a visit!
Jakob H — Google review
It is the largest indoor market in Budapest, located at one end of the famous Váci utca. It is located in a building whose facade is built in a neo-Gothic style, very pleasing to the eye and in harmony with the architecture of the neighboring buildings. Inside, on the ground floor you will find many shops with local cold cuts, dairy, wines and other products. In the basement is the fish market. You can reach the upper level by several stairs but also by an escalator, located in close proximity of the main entrance. Access to the shops on the first floor is along corridors that look like balconies. Here are numerous gift/souvenir shops but also the Fakánal Etterem restaurant, which, if you want to taste the flavors of traditional Hungarian food, you must definitely make a stop. We did and we did not regret it. At lunchtime, when we arrived, we had to be a little patient to get to the desired menu, but it was worth it. I treated myself with a goulash soup and a portion of stuffed cabbage rolls. Everything was very tasty. I consider this place to be recommended to visit.

The market is housed inside a beautiful, well-organised historic building that feels lively but not chaotic. Everything is neatly arranged, and it’s easy to navigate through the different sections. You can find plenty of authentic Hungarian products here — from fresh local vegetables and spices to handmade crafts and souvenirs. There are also food stalls offering traditional dishes, so you can enjoy a snack or meal right inside the market while soaking in the atmosphere. The vendors are friendly and take pride in their products, making the experience feel genuine rather than touristy. There’s a good mix of local shoppers and visitors, which adds to its charm. The market also has clean, paid toilet facilities, which is convenient if you plan to spend more time browsing. Whether you’re looking for paprika, embroidered linens, or just a good place to people-watch, the Central Market Hall offers it all. It’s an enjoyable and colourful stop that captures the real spirit of Budapest in a single building.

Lots of fresh food of all varieties, including meat, vegetables and baked goods. Paprika of every flavor and size. Goodies to eat and souvenirs for the trip home. It can be very crowded so have some patience. Many of the vendors are closed on Sunday, especially the fresh food vendors.
Tom F — Google review
A traditional and interesting market to visit in Budapest. It’s worth checking out for its architecture and the variety of local products like spices, wines, and embroidered goods. It’s also a nice spot to buy souvenirs, but prices tend to be a bit higher, especially at the shops near the entrance.
Luana B — Google review
Architecture wise it’s a beautiful building and so we only spent a few minutes inside as the numerous market stalls didn’t really appeal to us. You can however find various stalls to suit various tastes from meats, fish and other food stalls to more traditional Hungarian shops. There were also a number of restaurants inside.

The Holocaust Memorial Center is a poignant tribute to the Hungarian Jewish victims of the Holocaust, housed in a beautifully refurbished 1920s synagogue. This center serves as both a museum and memorial, featuring an array of exhibits that utilize newsreels, photographs, and interactive displays to narrate the harrowing events leading up to this tragic chapter in history. Visitors can explore not only the museum but also a serene synagogue and an inner courtyard adorned with a glass memorial.
A fabulous but haunting experience. The museum is very well laid out and thought through. It walks you through the history of anti semitism in Hungary. There are a mixture of written and video presentations to do this as well as some physical and interactive exhibits. The tour finishes in the refurbished synagogue. It serves as a sombre end especially given the reasons it fell into disrepair in the first place. There is no denying this a harrowing and emotional experience. I would also suggest completely essential too. A must visit when you are in Budapest. All of the information is in several languages including English. There are toilets on site.

We were staying just a few minutes walk away from this museum but would have visited anyway. Very worth a couple hours and reasonable entry fee. I would only suggest a little investment in the audio which was not working and some new headphones. Museum was bigger than expected and had many historical stories

Really interesting museum with well laid out exhibits. All of the text is available in English however some audio was only available in Hungarian. A guided tour of the synagogue would have been beneficial.

To get a Life's perspective, visit this Holocaust Memorial. Learn, forgive, and love again. So many people were terminated for no other reason than the misguided passion for hate. This memorial center captures humanity's worst hours. But it also reflects that good will always overcome evil.

Remarkably good, ml big and emotional history of the holocaust with a focus on the hungarian jews with detailed life histories of specific individuals. Very small museum. Mostly hungarian and not as english friendly. Moving. Painful. Illustration of man’s violence on its own. The museum staff needs to do a much better job of the audio guide and educating visitors before they enter. The House of Terror has done a remarkably better job than this museum in visitor education and narration.
Venu J — Google review
Unforgettable experience. The most important place of the Holocaust history because Hungary was a key country where the most jews were taken to the concentration camps. You should specially pay attention to the personal family stories of the era. Be aware if you go with kids they might be restricted to enter due to the cruel images and historical accounts of cruelty that is not suitable for children.
Janos F — Google review
Holocaust Memorial Center is a national institution established by the Government in 1999. In 2002, it decided to construct the building of the Center in Páva Street, outside of the traditional Jewish quarter, further emphasizing its national character. The invading German troops included a Sonderkommando led by SS officer Adolf Eichmann, who arrived in Budapest to supervise the deportation of the country's Jews to the Auschwitz concentration camp in occupied Poland. Between 15 May and 9 July 1944, over 434,000 Jews were deported on 147 trains, most of them to Auschwitz, where about 80 percent were gassed on arrival. The deportation was powerfully assisted by Hungarian authorities. The Holocaust Memorial Center focuses entirely on Holocaust research and education. The visitors are welcomed into a unique space that was named as the most impressive in Budapest, beside the city’s panorama itself by Frank Owen Gehry, one of the leading architects in our time. The modern building is organically linked to the Páva Street Synagogue, an authentic venue that once used to be the second largest site for Jewish worship in Budapest. The Institution is a center for scientific research education and culture. It welcomes visitors with interactive permanent and special periodic exhibitions, experience-based museum pedagogical programs and cultural performances. Guided tours are available in five languages and special, thematically focused tours are offered regularly. A bookshop and a cozy coffee shop contribute to a memorable visit. A toilet is also available for visitors.

Museums
The Hungarian National Gallery, located inside the former royal palace, is home to an extensive collection of Hungarian art spanning from the 15th century to modern times. With around 100,000 works in its possession, the gallery showcases approximately 1,000 pieces on a permanent display. Visitors can explore the evolution of Hungarian art through various periods and styles, from medieval sculptures and Gothic altarpieces to experimental works by 20th- and 21st-century artists.
Discounts only for EU members. A variety of packages with scaling prices. You will need 8 hours if you do the largest package. It took three hours to do the main floor of folk art. That was more than enough. There’s a bathroom upon entry. Show your ticket or they charge you 300 for a toilet that is smelly and dirty with a wet floor and the cheapest hand soap to burn and dry out your hands, you may be better off rinsing and hand sanitizing with what’s in your pocketbook that wasn’t checked into the locker. The price of using the toilet does not include toilet paper to wipe yourself, constant drip drying could explain the wet seat and messy area. Be advised to bring your own supplies. At the bar they serve coffee and Hungarian vodka. Highly recommend the latter. You must check in purses, book bags, or totes. Do this only AFTER you use the toilet and have your supplies available. Your belongings will go in a small locker and you keep the key. The cost is free. The gallery seems busiest from opening to 2pm. During this time it is hard to get a locker.

We did only the permanent exhibit and very much enjoyed it. The spread of art is well done; they have something for everyone. Its not huge, but for $15 USD its very much worth the visit! Many, many steps lead up to the Museum, be prepared. Overall its not designed very well, as many of the hallways dead end into employee only area, but very expected given how old the building is. Dont miss the stairs leading up to the dome as well. The gift shop is very well stocked and decently priced. Free storage lockers for bags and coats. No wait to get in. A+

Really nice museum. I went to multiple art museums in I really liked this one over the others. They had a temporary art nuveau exposition which was the best part. The permanent exposition is very diverse from fine arts, modern and contemporary. Is very big, I would advise dedicating 2-3 hours walking fast. The only con is the cost, around 7000 ft is too much imo.

There’s a lot to see in this museum, so take your time. And my case which most people do not do I paid for a private tour through the crypt. It was fascinating. The Tour Guide was incredibly knowledgeable about the history and gave me a two hour private tour. It was costly it cost $88 But that included up to 12 people. I was there during the Art new fall poster exhibition, which I really enjoyed. I also went through the contemporary exhibition area when she was fascinating.

Lovely art museum and well worth a visit if in Budapest. Missing a star as the wheelchair accessible entrance was round a corner and via an old lift. The gallery also involved constantly going back on yourself rather from room to room.

I visited the Hungarian National Gallery in Buda Castle as part of my university course from the University of Pécs, guided by my professor. Such a beautiful place! There are so many amazing realistic and abstract paintings and sculptures. The view of the city from the top is just stunning, totally worth the visit.

The Hungarian National Gallery is absolutely worth a visit — it’s filled with beautiful paintings spanning Hungarian art from medieval to modern times, all housed in the impressive setting of Buda Castle . What to Expect • Time needed: Plan on spending 1.5 to 3 hours exploring the permanent collection . • Ticket prices (as of now): • Full price: HUF 5,200 for the permanent exhibition . • Concession (youth aged 6–26): 50% off, which brings it down to HUF 2,600 . • Free entry: Children under 6 and seniors over 70 (EEA citizens) get in for free . Highlights & Tips • The gallery showcases a wide range of artworks — medieval, Renaissance, Gothic, Baroque, 19th-century realism, and modern Hungarian art . • It’s centrally located in Buda Castle, making it easy to combine with other nearby attractions like the Castle District . • The price-quality ratio feels fair — you’re paying for both the artistic experience and the historic context of the venue

Restaurant
Rosenstein Vendéglő is a renowned family-run restaurant in Budapest, offering an extensive menu of traditional Hungarian and Hungarian-Jewish dishes. Established in 1996 as a simple buffet, it has evolved into one of the city's most popular family-owned restaurants. The warm and welcoming ambiance makes diners feel like they are having a meal at their grandmother's house.
The food we had there was absolutely fantastic! Their chicken in paprika sauce is so tender and smooth. The atmosphere is so relaxed and welcoming. The sserver we had was lovely but you need to have a cheeky sense of humour. We absolutely loved it and we were so happy to find a traditional Hungarian restaurant with good food.

Food was quite good here. Goulash was average but the spicy chicken and beef dishes (I don’t know the Hungarian names) were really good. Meat was really tender and the spicy sauce was amazing. Would certainly come back given the chance
Allen L — Google review
A real family-style restaurant with long traditions, great service, and most importantly exceptional food. Unfortunately, Hungarian dishes are not the most photogenic (or my photos are lame), yet I can guarantee that the dishes served are both authentic Hungarian dishes (some with a Jewish twist), great in flavour, and very reasonably priced. Overall, great value for money.
József D — Google review
Had lunch at Rosenstein Vendéglő, a long-standing family restaurant known for Hungarian classics and Ashkenazi Jewish dishes done with care. I had one of the chef’s offer dishes — pan-fried goose foie gras in Tokaji sauce — which was rich, silky, and beautifully balanced. Their goulash was excellent too, comforting and full of depth. What surprised me most though was the sourdough bread: crusty, airy, and easily one of the best I’ve had in a long time (and I say that as someone who takes sourdough seriously). It was definitely a memorable meal in Budapest.

Beautiful authentic Hungarian restaurant with a charming atmosphere. Received a recommendation from a local friend and we were not disappointed. The menu was extensive and everything we ordered tasted incredible. Professional, prompt service and very reasonably priced for such a good meal - would recommend to anyone.

The food didn't taste so fantastic for us but it might just be what we ordered. The potato croquettes was very good though. I also liked the desserts. The reservation list was a bit of a mess but might be due to the language barrier. The service could be better but wasn't bad. The place is clean and cozy.

Al Dente is a hidden gem in Budapest's Palace Quarter, offering a taste of Italy in the heart of the city. This cozy osteria-style restaurant serves up classic Italian dishes with a focus on well-prepared daily meat, seafood, and vegetarian pastas. Guests rave about the perfectly cooked pasta and delectable tiramisu. The pizza also receives high praise for its delicious crust and generous toppings.

We tried the Prosciutto Fanghi pizza, some tagliatelle (or spaghetti), a few appetizers, and also the ravioli—which was homemade from scratch. Everything was good and we enjoyed our meal overall. The ravioli stood out as especially fresh and flavorful. For me personally, the tagliatelle could’ve been cooked a bit more, but it was still enjoyable in the end. A nice experience!

Went here last and loved the vibe and service, however my steak was a bit overcooked (still tasted great) but find it odd they asked me how I wanted the steak just to cook it their way. The pasta and pizza is amazing though!

One of the closest experiences to authentic Italian food I’ve had in Budapest. I tried several different dishes, and they were consistently good. The prices are reasonable considering the quality and portion sizes. The restaurant design is simple and cozy, but during busy hours, it can be hard to find a seat as the indoor space is quite small. Personally, I prefer the outdoor seating area. The service is prompt, and the staff are friendly and professional. My top recommendation from everything I tried would definitely be the lasagna.
Masoud G — Google review
Very disappointed, the waiter showed his displeasure because I wanted to eat outside and he was cold…. In addition, he served me a really small glass of wine and then served large glasses of wine to pretty young women in front of me out of pure interest, the spicy oil was old and tasteless. I am disappointed because I came this summer and everything was impeccable. When it came to the bill I could see that he charged me for the tap water and gave himself a tip without my consent… goodbye Al Dente.

Vigadó Concert Hall, located just a block away from the Danube River in Budapest, is a grand concert venue with a rich history. Built in 1865 to replace its predecessor destroyed by fire, it quickly became a social hub hosting prestigious concerts and elegant events. Despite suffering damage during World War II, it was painstakingly restored over 36 years and declared a national monument.
One of the most underrated buildings in Budapest, tourists clearly haven't discovered it yet. Beautifully renovated interior, with magnificent view to Buda! A complete miss for us. We visited the exhibitions and explored the building (combined ticket), but it was too little and the exhibitions design was not great. The building is gorgeous, it's too bad that when visiting the concert hall, You don't get to feel the experience of being at a concert, even the one musician. The ticket check at each point was redontent and annoying (just give the one option for the ticket, and cancel the ticket checker personal, hire one musician instead and let them play in the concert hall, while people going in and out or give the space to music students). Too bad.

Not expensive, but not necessarily worth visiting unless you're going for a specific event. It's a gorgeous building inside, but you have to pay to wander around and there's not so much to look at. They do have a roof terrace with an excellent view of Buda across the river.

Vigado is a beautiful building with an open balcony offering a unique view over Gellert Hill and the Castle District. It costs HUF 1500 to access the balcony, which also gives you access to the exhibitions in Vigado, which is a very important cultural venue going back to the 1800s, particularly for music followers. Bearing in mind that you pay simply to enter this venue, we were disappointed by the service and communication level of the staff. It was difficult to understand where you can and can't go. Be ready for to be sharply admonished if you step one foot in the wrong room or turn in the wrong direction :-) They watch every movement you make!

The Fiumei Road Graveyard, also known as the Fiume St Graveyard, is a historic and expansive cemetery in Budapest. Established in 1847, this 56-hectare necropolis is adorned with scenic tombs, deciduous trees, and walking paths.
A Hidden Gem in Budapest – A Must-Visit! I visited Fiumei Road Graveyard a few days ago, and it was truly a unique experience. The vast, peaceful space and well-maintained graves create a reflective and atmospheric environment. There are countless statues throughout, each with its own artistic and historical value. The Heroes' Graves with the bell was particularly moving, and it was fascinating to see graves of many historical figures—people after whom many streets in Budapest are named. I walked around for over 2 hours, completely immersed in history, and surprisingly, I didn’t feel tired at all. Some areas can feel eerily silent at times, but that only adds to the experience. It’s not a typical tourist spot, but definitely a hidden gem worth visiting—especially if you have a few extra days in Budapest.
Mohammad E — Google review
I make it a point to visit cemeteries in every new city I go to—so by now, I’ve been to quite a few. But this cemetery? Hands down the best I’ve ever visited. It felt more like an arboretum than a cemetery—so peaceful and idyllic. I could’ve easily spent 4 to 6 hours wandering around, but with time constraints, I only managed about 2 hours. Be sure to check out the grand mausoleums of famous Hungarian leaders. They’re a striking reminder of how wealth and privilege can buy you a space larger than most homes—and also a fascinating history lesson. I ended up learning a bit about Hungarian history, culture, and politics just by reading about the people interred in those mausoleums. Kindly take note, almost everything here is written in the local language, so you'd have to do a spot of Googling on your own. This place really stirred something in me. It’s definitely worth coming back to Budapest for, so the next time round I get to spend at least half a day here, just loitering and reflecting.
Loshini R — Google review
Kerepesi Cemetery is one of the most beautiful and peaceful places I visited in Budapest. It’s not just a cemetery, but a true open-air museum filled with history, art, and culture. Many of Hungary’s most important figures, politicians, writers, artists, and national heroes, are buried here, and the monuments are incredibly detailed and impressive. Walking through its wide avenues lined with old trees feels like stepping back in time. At sunset, the light filtering through the trees creates a magical, almost poetic atmosphere, making the visit even more special. If you love history, architecture, or simply quiet places away from the crowds, Kerepesi Cemetery is absolutely worth a visit. The only downside is that it’s not very well maintained in some areas, which is a pity for such a historic place. Still, it’s absolutely worth a visit.
Patrizia P — Google review
Wherever you go in Budapest you are never far from public sculptures and statuary. It seems to form an important part of local identity and you will find it on walls, in parks, and in shop fronts and signage. Here in the main cemetery you will find magnificent examples ranging from baroque to the Art Deco styles. Unusually for European cemeteries the graves are set far apart so it seems like a sculpture park. There are two large and wonderful stone mausoleums, one that you can go to the top of via a staircase guarded by big cats. There is a sign at the entrance showing the location of the most noteworthy monuments and also free paper plans to carry round with you. This is a cemetery with long avenues shaded by plane trees creating a peaceful place for quiet reflection.
Herm D — Google review
Obviously a somber place. But the architecture of the monuments is impressive. There are specimens that are almost 200 years old. Very large territory. You need to allocate 2-3 hours to walk around everything at a leisurely pace. Free of charge.
Pavlo K — Google review
Fiumei Graveyard is one of Budapest’s most atmospheric and underrated sites. Walking through its tree-lined paths feels like stepping into another world—peaceful, eerie, and deeply evocative. It’s not just a cemetery; it’s a vast open-air museum of Hungarian history, art, and remembrance. The architecture of the graves and mausoleums is genuinely breathtaking. From grand, crumbling stone crypts to finely sculpted statues and monuments, every corner holds something visually striking and emotionally resonant. You’ll find the resting places of poets, politicians, revolutionaries, and ordinary citizens, all surrounded by a quiet, almost gothic ambiance. What makes it even more powerful is the presence of war scars still visible today. During the grim days of the Siege of Budapest in World War II, this graveyard became a battleground, and some of the damage remains—a haunting reminder of the violence the city endured. It adds a powerful layer of history and solemnity to the visit. Not your typical tourist stop, but if you appreciate history, architecture, or a bit of ghostly quiet away from the crowds, Fiumei Graveyard is an unforgettable experience. Just bring comfortable shoes—and maybe a bit of reverence.

The Zwack Unicum Museum is a must-visit for those interested in the history of the famous Hungarian spirit, Unicum. This bitter herbal digestif has a rich history dating back to its creation for the Habsburg Emperor in the 18th century. The museum showcases the dramatic story of the founding Zwack family, who persevered through persecution by both Nazi and Communist regimes.
A great insight into the liquor and the family history. We basically had a private tour of the place due to being the only English speakers booked on at the time. Highly recommend the tour, lots of history in this brand. Kind and friendly knowledgeable staff. A great morning was had.

An interesting place where I learned a lot about Unicum – a unique Hungarian herbal drink I had never heard of before. I tasted it (not really to my liking!), but the museum and short film were excellent. Very informative and well presented. There’s also a big shop at the end. Definitely worth seeing if you’re curious about Hungarian culture and history!

We didn’t know in advance that the museum visit included a guided tour. When we arrived, the English tour had just started so we were able to join in right on time. The tour began with an extensive introduction video. Unfortunately, the subtitles weren’t fully in sync with the video, which made it a bit difficult to follow at times. After that, we headed down to the cellars where we were given detailed information about the liqueur. We got to taste five different varieties, we liked the orange and coffee flavors the most. After the tour, we were free to explore the small museum on our own. Big compliments to the tour guide, he was very friendly and patient!

Kazinczy Street Synagogue is a significant historic Jewish site located in Budapest's old Jewish Quarter. It is part of the synagogue triangle, along with two other synagogues, showcasing the rich heritage of the area. The interior boasts stunning stonework and original stained-glass windows, creating an opulent atmosphere. Despite its somewhat worn exterior, the synagogue's interior has been beautifully restored and features traditional Hungarian motifs.
Really amazing synagogue, but only visited for a short while and didn't get it because was too expensive for a synagogue
Naama L — Google review
This is another of Budapest’s historic synagogues with beautiful stained-glass windows and a beautiful arch decorated double metal door at the front. However, the synagogue was closed to the public today and it appears there is some major renovation being done to the front portion of the synagogue. We later learned that there is an entrance fee whenever the synagogue is open. We did have the opportunity to enter the side and rear courtyards from the entrance door to the right. This is an interesting area to explore with the many historic photos along the side of the synagogue’s walls telling some of the history of this historic building. In the rear courtyard, you will also find a large metal chuppah or wedding canopy.

A beautiful synagogue. The biggest orthodox one in Budapest. Unfortunately it is hard to meet the local community, because they were kicked out by some people, who have no connection to this place. Tourists however can enter for a fee and the money will land in the hands of those who kick people out of their own synagogue. (The photo was not taken in the main shul, but in the small prayer room)

Interesting synagogue. The Jewish community made an agreement with the monicipalety. The came out with the restoration money and the synagogue will be used for public events also. The stage is movable into the lower floor creating a large hall.
Reuven N — Google review
A pretty high entrance fee to just walk around ”one room”. Not much to see as its pretty small. Felt like it hadn’t been taken cared of.
Rebecka K — Google review
The entrance is 300HUF which is a bit expensive for the size of the building. Although the synagogue's Art Nouveau exterior appears a bit run down on the outside, its interior is beautifully restored and brightly painted, adorned with traditional Hungarian motives, a very unusual Bimah (similar to an altar), as well as original stained glass windows (situated high up near the roof). The staff are very welcome and helpful. It is up to your budget if you want to explore the place.

Very ornate and very unique… Having traveled far and wide to Catholic Churches and Mosques around the globe; I had not myself been in a temple for Judaism before. This is a small but memorable temple in the Jewish quarter that will likely bypass you if you don’t pay careful attention to the front area. It’s very eccentric and very special for certain. I’ve not seen a place like it before… If you are a man you will be given a paper yarmulke or a kippah to wear on your head while in the temple, so don’t be surprised. You have to pay to get in its something like 6€ I believe. It’s small but it’s worth it!

Ludwig Museum of Contemporary Art, located in Budapest, is a scenic destination for contemporary art enthusiasts. The museum's permanent collection features renowned international artists like Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, and Roy Lichtenstein alongside Hungarian artists from the same era. Housed in the Palace of Arts, this intriguing museum offers spacious, sunlit areas with floor-to-ceiling windows on three floors. Visitors can explore thought-provoking contemporary artworks and interactive exhibitions while marveling at high-tech equipment.
I absolutely loved my visit! The museum had such a peaceful atmosphere, and the exhibits were both bold and thought-provoking. I especially appreciated the works by local Hungarian artists. A must visit if you’re into modern and contemporary art ✨
Orsolya M — Google review
Fine collection of modern art with a regional perspective, and of course the expected Picassos. Current exhibition “Big Bang” is portrayed as, and feels very much, like afterthought without real punch.
Søren B — Google review
Very beautiful on the outside and very empty on the inside. There are few exhibits in my opinion, the whole first floor is completely closed, all the literature in the shop is in Hungarian, I wish there were books on art and architecture in English as well. In general, it is worth a visit to broaden your horizons, but you should not expect much
Anna A — Google review
Currently most of the museum's offer is not available due to renovation. What is worse, there is no warning about it! Moreover, there is a sign inviting people to enter, saying that they're renovating the information desk, but "exhibitions remain open". That is not at all true, as only a fraction is available, and I feel cheated! The person selling tickets just sold me a ticket like everything is normal.
Milos S — Google review
Awesome space, I didn't like the exhibition though. The one in the second floor was cool but the one in the first floor didn't catch me.
Andreas J — Google review
Very good exhibition in early 2025 on contemporary women's art, mainly from central and Easter Europe. There are quite a few very strong pieces. There were no nudes and no reference to sex which did make me wonder if the curators were taking care not to offend the conservative cultural sensibilities of the regime in power.
Jonathan M — Google review
Terrific collection of Pop Art and impressionist art, and the Cologne gallery specifically has the largest Picasso collection internationally, if I remember correctly, very inspiring collection, and the restaurant in the museum goes well beyond the average museum restaurant

Worth the visit for anyone interested in contemporary art. There's always something new to see and learn there. This time I visited young contemporary Hungarian artists exhibition, this is what I appreciate the most - to see it "from the kitchen"

The Hungarian Railway Museum, also known as Magyar Vasuttorteneti Park, is a treasure trove for train enthusiasts and families alike. Nestled in the former Budapest North Depot, this interactive museum boasts an impressive collection of over one hundred locomotives and offers visitors the chance to engage with various exhibits. Guests can experience the thrill of driving a steam engine or operating hand cars while enjoying monthly steam train demonstrations that bring history to life.
The museum is truly exceptional. In addition to a fascinating and well-preserved exhibition of retro locomotives, visitors also have the rare opportunity to take a nostalgic ride in an old Soviet-era railroad car, which adds an immersive touch to the whole experience. There's even a charming ride on a Yard Railway that delights both kids and adults 👌 The pricing is very reasonable, both for admission and at the on-site restaurant, which offers tasty meals in a cozy atmosphere. It’s a perfect destination for a family weekend outing or for adults looking to reconnect with that forgotten feeling of childhood wonder. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates history, trains, or unique experiences! Have fun!

To describe it as a unique experience, you have a very beautiful one.. Congratulations to all who maintain this museum with so much care and passion. This museum is very well thought out and very well maintained and reconditioned so many locomotives, wagons and machinery from the railway industry. You will not get bored. The children are very excited by what they saw and also impressed by everything they did. Maybe the souvenir section should be completed. .... but I recommend it. It is very beautiful. I would be happy if there were more instructions in English as well as explanations of the locomotives, wagons, etc. There is no physical map. Parking is free. It would deserve more attractions for children and some playgrounds... maybe a wagon transformed into a playground...

Its a nice parc, but it would be nicer if not everything if forbidden to reach. And it looks like that lots of material was just put there as a grave yard. Its rusting away, not maintained for the future. As a train lover its a bit sad to see.

The museum is a must visit for anyone with an interest in railways. There are locomotives and carriages from all different eras, including tram cars, and also locomotives and hand carts that can be ridden for an extra fee.

This museum is an outstanding tribute to the evolution of railway engineering and travel. The Hungarian Railway Museum combines historical exhibits with hands-on experiences, allowing guests to explore vintage trains and even participate in interactive demonstrations. The spacious grounds and clear signage make for a pleasant and informative visit.

Nestled along the banks of the Danube, Macska is a delightful spot in Budapest that perfectly blends a bohemian atmosphere with a vibrant craft beer selection. This charming venue offers an inviting upstairs area where you can unwind and enjoy your drink while soaking in the unique decor inspired by Asian feline art. While it caters to vegans and craft beer enthusiasts alike, Macska also serves hearty meals for those looking to satisfy their hunger.
Really nice and cozy place which is ideal for a calm evening with friends. The personnel is really friendly and helps with the choice. I also like the beer they are offering. It is a Czech brand. The prices are really reasonable. I can definitively recommend the place.

Amazing bar in the Budapest downtown. Only had drinks there but next time will definitely tru some food. The atmosphere is great, it is quite eccentric but very homely, on the gallery you can sit on the floor even as it’s covered in carpet! Love the decor and real plants too. The staff is very pleasant, the prices are great (650 huf for a pint of lager), overall highly recommend and will definitely come back!

A chill cafe bar ... imagine a bohemian answer to Trader Vics! Luckily, if you're not a cat lover, the feline theme is not central to what this place is about. The Asian feline idols were cleverly purchased from an art importer that was closing down. Everything about this place, from the artwork, to the dimmed down lights and stripped bare brick walls with vaulted ceilings and from the eclectic music mix (reggae rhythms, Asian and arabic strings, tribal beats, jazz, rock and anything in between) to the reasonably priced vegan food and local wine, makes for a chilling ambiance and an enjoyable time!

The Metropolitan Ervin Szabó Library is a grand public library complex housed in a former 19th-century palace. Once the residence of Count Frigyes Wenckheim, it was acquired by the City Council and opened to the public. Visitors can explore various rooms, including a reading room in the former Dining Room and a Smoking Room with elegant bookshelves and a chandelier.
I was there in April and it was really interesting to visit this library! I was shocked how many people also were there and they were studying. So, this is a quiet place and we should not forget that people use it like a place for work. This place is unforgettable❤️

Stunning library which shouldn't be missed in Budapest. One tip - in stead of paying turist ticket to enter (which you could ofc), it's possible to register at the entrance and make a card for 1 euro so you could enter multiple times. I will so come back to this place.

An incredible testament to Hungarian culture that this public library exists, is well maintained, and used by university students and researchers. It contains six of the most beautiful rooms I’ve ever seen- even having toured the worlds greatest libraries. This is special. Consider adding a donation on top of entry fee, and remember to be respectful if you’re taking photos.
Sierra G — Google review
The palace part is only on the 4th floor. Other floors are modern. It is definitely spectaculous. Also no need to feel awkward as tourists while walking around to visit the palace part on 4th floor. People are actually studying or reading there, but as long as the tourists don’t make a noise, everyone was friendly. The staffs were friendly too.
鄭欣恩 — Google review
Some of the rooms on the fourth floor of the library are truly beautiful, but it does feel a bit intrusive to be touring while others are trying to read or study. That said, it's still worth a quick visit to appreciate the architectural style — you can finish exploring in about half an hour.

The Rumbach Street Synagogue, constructed in 1872, boasts a stunning Moorish-style design with an octagonal layout and a high ornate dome. Despite suffering damage during WWII, efforts are underway to restore it into a museum. Situated in downtown Budapest's historic Belvaros district, this synagogue serves as the spiritual center for Neolog Hungarian Orthodox Jews.
This architectural designed synagogue is a stunning to see from the outside and we heard even more so inside. However, on the day we were in the area, all the Jewish synagogues were closed, and we heard it is only open on Sunday for visitors. In addition, there is also an entry fee to tour the synagogue but much cheaper than other locations. We still enjoyed seeing it from the outside and we were happy to see no unsightly graffiti on any of the synagogue’s walls. Good to see the local artist have enough respect not to desecrate this holy place. Hopefully, if we ever get back to Budapest, we will get a chance to visit.
Thomas B — Google review
A hidden gem of 19th century architecture, beautifully restored and open to the public on Sunday. Friendly members of the local community will tell you everything about the synagogues past and present. The top floor also hosts an exhibition on Jewish life in Hungary.

We visited the Rumbach Street Synagogue on Tues 10 June 2025. Such a beautiful and cosy place. The guided tour in english was great with clear explanations . The guide Mr Krisztián Adorján who also does tours in Budapest and tours for this synagogue was excellent, he was so clear in explaining about the history of the synagogue and about how the life of Jews in Hungary, past and present . So we understood how much and how far the Hungarian Jews have come and what the synaggogue and the community meant as well as the struggles, challenges they faced over the years in war time, the holocaust, modernity, the exhausting, sad and painful traumatic experiences of building and rebuilding the community and how they overcome issues and problems. Such a strong and remarkable lovely group of people. May God bless them .

I've never been to a Synagogue before. We had the full guided tour . I think the Jewish tour guide was either not feeling well or a bit depressed. It put a bit of a downer on the whole tour. VAJ, which means "butter" in Hungarian, is a spacious bakery located just outside the city center by Rakoczi ter. The airy and industrial space offers a variety of sandwiches, pastries, and light fare along with cocktails. The glass display showcases an array of freshly baked breakfast pastries, breads, and bagels. Visitors praise the turos taska as one of Budapest's best.
This is a very nice place! They serve really good coffee and excellent pastries! Both savory and sweet. I recommend the creme brûlée croissant, it has such a great texture and amazing flavors. The cafe has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating options. The only negative thing is that we had questions about allergies that they didn’t take seriously or could answer at first. After that they got the manager, then we felt better because he could give answers about what pastries contained nuts! Overall I had a good experience

They also have multiple outlets across the city.

Located in a picturesque park, the Soviet War Memorial is marked by a striking white obelisk honoring Russian military personnel who served during WWII. Originally erected by the Soviets to commemorate their hero liberators, the memorial underwent changes after 1989. The statue now pays tribute to all who sacrificed for Hungary's independence and prosperity. Surrounded by notable landmarks, such as the Hungarian Parliament Building and Liberty Square, this site offers a powerful homage to those who fought for freedom and peace.
The very large war memorial is located on the north end of Liberty Square, and it commemorates the Russian soldiers who lost their lives during the liberation of Budapest in World War II. Unfortunately, the Hungarian people went from one kind of horror to another after the Soviet’s replaced the Germans. What is unique about this oversized statue, is the two life size figures of two American presidents. The most important one is President Reagan, who took a hardline stance against the Soviets, which resulted in the end of the Cold War and in essence, the collapse of the Soviet Bloc and the liberation of those countries that suffered under the weight of the Soviet occupation.

Beautiful section of the city. Quite important to remember the history that the nation has gone through. Very neat and spotlessly clean . Did a bicycle tour and this was one of the stops where we got some local information about the city (and Hungarian) history.

Pretty and well kept monument at one end of Liberty Square in the middle of Budapest. While the monument itself is quite attractive, what it represents isn’t so pleasant. Representing the massive loss of life sustained by the Soviet Red Army to liberate, but then ultimately occupy Budapest and Hungary for 45 years. With current events it will be interesting to see what lies in store for this monument, but it is nonetheless an important marker for history for the city, and for Hungarians as a whole.

Rákóczi Market Hall, also known as Market Number Two, is a 19th-century indoor market located in District 8 of Budapest. While it may not be as bustling as it once was, the market still offers a charming atmosphere with its array of produce and meat vendors, along with informal eateries. As you explore the Jewish quarter, take some time to visit this beautiful old market building and soak in its unique ambiance.
Incredible place to buy local products! The local meet and cheese shops are amazing. Also the fermented veggie shop is also very good! The building is very beautiful and the people working are very friendly and helpful!

We got there late afternoon, mid-week, so only a few stores were open. I expect it’s much busier at the weekend. In the Palace district, great prices as it’s non-touristy. All the stores-keepers and staff were unfailingly lovely and friendly and took the time to give us samples. They also have clean loos. Highly recommended.

A local market offering fresh produce and regional foods. Less crowded and often a better value than tourist spots. There is a Lángos shop inside where you can try freshly made, authentic local fried bread. The owners were very friendly.

This market is a extremely smaller version of the Central Market Hall. Aside from the beautiful building architecture, I didn't find much interest here unfortunately. We arrived around 9am in the morning but the market was dead. A lot of stores were not open. We thought we were perhaps too early so we decided to come back again later in the day. We stopped by again around 2 pm and the market looked the same as it did in the morning. I am not sure if this is because we went on the wrong day but I didn't think this market was worth visiting.

3rd largest market hall in Budapest. Very old building with amazing high ceilings and ironworks, there are some great small business in here but many vacancies too.
Jamie P — Google review
The fruit vendor sells expensive fruit and vegetables. Had their quality been good I wouldn't mind the high prices but it isn't. The bread at the bread and cheese shop is terrible but this is the case in most bakeries in Hungary. It also sells foreign cheeses at inflated prices. Probably the only cheese that is of acceptable quality at a reasonable price is Hungarian goat cheese. There is also a butcher and a lady that sells eggs. The eggs are actually good and they are not expensive (110 HUF a piece). And yes, there is a spar supermarket (probably the worst chain of supermarkets in Europe where you are always guaranteed to find low quality goods at high prices). If you are a tourist and not aware of how low the quality of the basics every Hungarian household consumes, do come here and see it for yourself.

The Salgotarjani street Jewish Cemetery in Budapest is a must-visit for its historical significance and serene beauty. It is the oldest Jewish burial ground on the Pest side of the city, featuring old and artistic graves that showcase a unique blend of grandeur and humility. While it may sometimes be closed for safety reasons, visitors can gain access by knocking on the door or arriving on foot or by tram.
Absolutely loved it! After five years in Budapest, I finally managed to enter: the gate was open and the Jewish cemetery was open, even if it was a public holiday (1st of May). A few seconds after we were in, a security guard tried to tell us, only speaking in Hungarian, that it was closing at 15:40 (although the opening hours on the gate say it is open until 16:00, he probably wanted to make sure we left on time). We understood each other and he was welcoming, he just went back doing his things and we were left alone wondering around. In fact, there was nobody else inside! The atmosphere was so special and we truly enjoyed the visit. We wished we had more time, since there are quite a few paths and the cemetery is not as small as I thought/read. The tombs/tombstoned are very damaged and abandoned, some falling apart, and there's not much decorations left, but I did see some beautiful mosaic parts and gates and columns. Would definitely recommend a visit! (It is free of charge.)

Easily accessible via tram 37A, which stops directly in front of the enterance. The cemetery is beautiful, gives a jungle vibe from all the trees and greenery, and also quite eerie and spooky, but somehow inviting. It is bigger than it seems. It does not seem to be looked after, but that gives it a special charm. I would definitely recommend it!

Beautiful and serene cemetery. Highly recommended taking a historical walking tour here.
GSV G — Google review
A beautiful small jewish cemetery, close to Orczy tér or Keleti train station. It is usually open during the daytime, so even if you see the door closed, try to open it, or knock on it and the guard will let you in. They keep it closed sometimes, as the area is not the most safe. Don't leave your car around, come on foot or tram. There is no entry fee and you can see a lot of old, beautiful jewish graves, with artistic stones. Some of those are in really bad condition, but some are already renovated. Also, please don't cross the chains, those are marking the paths you can take. Worth a visit during autumn, when the leaves are falling and the whole place is simply beautiful.
Imre K — Google review
The most beautiful cemetery I've ever visited. Easily accessible through public transportation.
Otávio M — Google review
This cemetery is a less crowded, overgrown, smaller, much more intimate version of nearby Fiume cemetery. Even without an interest in the Jewish history it would be worth a visit. Even more impactful if you do. Easy tram access, and a must for visitors to Fiume
Tracy N — Google review
Its so worth going and seeing if you can get in. But you really need to stay on the path, because there are numerous open graves..... and no one will be there to save you if you tumble in!! Its spooky and sad all at the same time, the crumbling graves & mausoleums just make you want to cry.
R — Google review
More than a cemetery, a place of decaying grandiose beauty, complimented by a sublime atmosphere of utter peace and stillness. Magnificent old collapsing mausoleums and humbler weather worn ivy clad tombstones marking the final resting places of both the notable and less prominent citizenry of Budapest, equal together in death.

The MVM Dome is a popular venue in Budapest, known for hosting various events and concerts. It has gained recognition as one of the best large arena-sized venues in central Europe, offering ample parking space and easy access. The acoustics within the dome are exceptional, providing an incredible audio experience for attendees. The professional and friendly staff further enhance the overall experience for visitors.
I went 2 days in a row to see 4 women's handball matches. A great organization, with staff to guide you, all the services inside very good

Had a great experience going to the Darts Hungarian cup over this past weekend on Sunday. The venue was extremely well organized with easy access and great security, overall just a lot of fun!. Clean facility and easy access before and after the event. Great experience.

We went for the Katy Perry concert. First time to be I. The stadium, it is fabulous! The seats are very comfortable. Very easy to access. All the facilities are brand new. Get out of the metro and just couple mini walk away to the stadium. Very convenient!

Had a blast at the Robbie Williams concert. Good sound and comfy chairs. Great service and a quick entry to the venue. You can reach the stadium by M3 Subway.
B. B — Google review
MVM Dome is a modern and spacious arena. The venue feels generous, and there was no need to wait anywhere – neither at the entrance nor at the food stands. There were plenty of refreshment options at reasonable prices considering the type of event. We had a pizza for €10, ready in about 10 minutes – a bit smaller, but tasty, just what you want before a concert. Big plus for the organizers – staff were visible everywhere and willing to help. My only complaint is about the entrance: the ticket didn’t specify exactly which gate to use. When I tried to enter, the code didn’t scan, and one of the staff members started shouting at me in Hungarian. Fortunately, another staff member came, explained everything in English, and helped me get in. The sound was absolutely incredible – though that credit goes to the sound engineers. For anyone wondering about the venue’s acoustics, there’s nothing to worry about. Overall, a very good experience – I’d definitely recommend the arena, just a bit more clarity at the entrance would make it perfect.

Kastner Kommunity is a trendy cafe and co-working space situated in the outer part of Budapest's District 8. The spacious interior features comfortable mid-century chairs and large windows overlooking a park. Upstairs, there's a co-working area that requires a ticket for access. Visitors rave about the delicious quiche, apple pie, and fantastic coffee. The atmosphere is described as sublime with bold and vibrant plate colors adding to the experience.
Awesome space to enjoy a coffee and get some work done. You can sit in the ground floor space with a purchase. The coffee was delicious and the workers were very kind. It has a pleasant, spacious atmosphere that makes it easy to focus if you’re trying to work.

A workshop was organized here, and that’s how I discovered this gem. It’s a very cozy place, the chai latte is delicious, and so is the croissant. The upstairs has been set up as a coworking space. However, there are also tables on the ground floor, and the place is fully suitable for studying, working, or meeting friends. 😊

Very chill community spot in the city. Good to see that these initiatives try to make infamous area of the city feel connected and safe. The second floor is dedicated to co-working, down below you can find designers' works and nice art gifts. I had a cup of coffee and a brownie with raspberries. The coffee was great, but unfortunately the brownie was stale and tough to eat. Very cosy atmosphere with lots of places to have a seat and work or study. There is a book corner with books to grab and read. Cash and card accepted.

A very cool place to have coffee and some baked goods at. This place is modern and light. Their coffee is very good and the bagels and brownies are delicious. It is a place where you can meet a friend for a coffee, but also nice for reading or working on something. The service is friendly and helpful.

The Rudas Thermal Bath, dating back to the 16th century and boasting traditional Turkish baths, is a must-visit in Budapest. Nestled in the shadow of the majestic Buda Castle, this historic spa complex features six thermal pools, a swimming pool, and a wellness center. The authentic Ottoman architecture with domed ceilings and colored glass creates a meditative atmosphere for visitors.
Great thermal baths with a lot of thermal pool options. We visited on Friday, booked the tickets online (for a weekend price) and entered before noon. The baths were not crowded and we were able to try all of them - Turkish with a lot of mineral scent, radon bath, immersion pool and two other thermal pools with massage streams. We also entered the rooftop whirlpool, which was awesome, albeit a bit hot combined with the sunlight. Sadly, the saunaworld was under reconstruction, but kne small Finnish sauna was near the swimming pool. Definitely recommend visiting the place, but I imagine it gets crowded on the weekends.
- — Google review
Rudas Thermal Bath is a great mix of history and relaxation. The rooftop hot tub was the highlight—modern, super clean, and with an amazing view of the Danube. The rest of the bath was clean too, though older and more traditional. Peaceful atmosphere. Just check gender-specific days before you go. Recommended!
Saba C — Google review
Highly recommend buying your ticket online — I arrived without one and waited around 30 minutes to get in. Inside there’s a great variety: dry and steam saunas, aroma sauna, cold plunge, thermal pools, a regular swimming pool, and the highlight — the rooftop pool with a stunning view of the bridge and the city! There’s also a bar, sunbeds, and a smoking area nearby. Bring your own flip-flops, swimsuit, towel, and robe — they sell them inside, but it’s pricey. I really enjoyed my visit, so I’m giving it 5 stars, though it can be slippery and there’s little guidance at the entrance, so you need to figure things out yourself. Lockers are free, nothing else included.
Dmitry G — Google review
We booked our tickets a couple of weeks before our trip! Rudas has to be the BEST bath in the city. It has everything. We arrived early in the morning and stayed for 4 hours, exploring everything from the sauna to the cold plunge, the thermal pools and the rooftop bath as well. There was no waiting time once we arrived and got our wrist bands, which opened our room lockers and the gates as well. I would love to come back!
Saloni — Google review
I'm a solo tourist and I literally spent 7.5 hours here! Perfect relaxation. Between the Steam rooms, saunas, rooftop pool, many other pools and thermal baths it is a relaxing Paradise. They even have quiet relaxation rooms and I took a nap. Online I had seen people complain of sewer smell but honestly I smelled that around Budapest in general and it wasn't bad here. You don't need a lock for your locker, just bring a towel, flip flops and a swimsuit if you don't want to pay for one at the shop
Chantal B — Google review
The coolest hot tub I’ve ever seen! Amazing place for watching the sunrise in Budapest. The best thermal bath in Budapest. 😊

Just rolled up after the men only session and entered with no problem. It’s expensive but the nearly 500yr old baths are a great experience. Barba Negra is a no-frills outdoor venue with semi-covered bars that hosts live music and DJ nights. The sound system is great and the drinks are cheap, making it a great place to catch a rock or metal gig.
The perfect venue, relaxed atmosphere and great food. The public transpo was impeccable! We were travelling form the city center of Budapest. But if going by car here was a huge parking lot next to the venue.

Arrived to see Dubioza Kolektiv about 10 minutes before they went on, and got in line for a drink. Over an hour into the show and we were still in line. Finally got warm beers. One of the worst managed bar and venues I've ever seen. (And I've also been managing venues.) Had to be careful which drinks we ordered, after seeing fully open bottles at the outdoor bar (not wanting to drink bugs, thank you). It's a shame that the venue could be making so much more money on drinks. Unless I can bring my own drinks in in the future, I won't be back, and I wouldn't recommend going there. Save your money for tickets at a better venue.

This is a badass club! I recently visited here while on vacation from the US. The sound system was excellent, and the concert we attended was on the indoor stage. Outside, there were seats and tables, and the large outdoor stage looked amazing. I'd love to come back and see some of the other shows they had listed. The bathroom was large with plenty of room for both urinals and stalls. There were lots of drink options at the bar. This venue is highly recommended, and I wish we had a place like this back home!

Ain't nothing like a no muss no fuss venue in the industrial area of a capital; the entrance is right next to the stage, plenty of kiosks to get a beer and the price wasn't the worst either. Could use a bit more ambiance but it's alright

Fantastic food and great people. Bit of a walk from the city center, however it’s well worth the walk, and after eating the food, walking back will definitely help you burn off a bit of what you just enjoyed. I was there for restaurant week and the offerings didn’t disappoint. The food looked and tasted too good for me to take pictures, but the main course of braised pork cheeks and roasted potatoes were a must try if they are on the menu when you go. The pickled radishes were unexpectedly delicious and will be adding that to my recipes when I get home. Try it out for yourself
Ernest I — Google review
I had two very negative experiences at this club. First, the band I came to see was 2 hours late – something I only found out after I had already entered. I wanted to step outside for some food and a walk along the river, but they told me if I left, I wouldn’t be allowed back in. After waiting two hours, I received a token without any explanation. When I ordered a drink, I was told I had to pay extra. Later I realized the token was probably for a smoker’s cup, but no one explained this to me. I asked for my money back, but instead I was given an extra cup. The bartender upstairs (the shorter woman with black hair) refused to help, and I was left with two cups I didn’t want. Staff speak very poor English and are not friendly toward foreigners. Overall, if you are not Hungarian, better go somewhere else.
Jacob B — Google review
I had a very disappointing and concerning experience at this club. During the event, some foreign men were behaving inappropriately and insulting young women on the dance floor. What made the situation worse was that there was no security staff present downstairs where everything was happening. I had to go upstairs to find someone to report the problem to, which is unacceptable in a place that hosts crowded night events. A club should make sure guests feel safe and respected at all times. I hope management takes this seriously and improves the security presence and crowd control, so no one has to go through a similar experience again.

So this is a theater, not a restaurant! Previously I saw really fantastic performances here. Now it was the stage adaption of the Dead Poets Society. And it was not good at all. Sorry to say...

One of the best theatres in town in terms of the plays. HUGE plus for the English subtitles. Some of the plays are hard to get tickets for after being played 300+ times. That says everything about the quality. It used to be a cinema many years ago and there isnt much incline, seats are also a bit worn - still great theatre and its highly recommended.
István N — Google review
Unfortunately I've seen a horrible stage direction here entitled Teacher Hannibal. Or maybe the actors had a bad day. The harmony was lousy, the forced exaggerated and at the same time ridiculous caricature of patriotism was resembled to cacophony with strong Nazi overtones. Too boring to listen always this type of interpretation. Hopefully next time I can enjoy something more original play here.

I had the small red lentil soup which was very nice (not spicy enough though). Then I ordered the Slovakian gnocchi and I did not enjoy that dish so much. I found it very dry. When the dish arrived it was ok but as the food cooled down it all became this huge mass of almost a single clogged gnocchi. The flavour was still nice but it felt like some moist was missing there. I love Hintaló — it’s quietly become a special spot in my Budapest routine. Just behind Blaha, near the daytime buzz of Rákóczi Square, this bar is central but tucked away — it draws people who come intentionally rather than by chance. A nice mix of locals, internationals, and regulars hits a sweet spot between a lively bar and a community hangout. The electronic nights with banger deep/tech house DJ sets are among my favorites — but I enjoy the quieter evenings just as much. Music varies widely from alt hip hop across Hungarian Roma–Balkan folk all the way to French chanson and beyond. They post events on social media. The atmosphere is always welcoming. I’ve been well looked after and enjoy one of the best drink selections around, though a few friends mentioned the cocktails felt a bit light on alcohol compared to what they’re used to in other countries. Finally, a shoutout to the thoughtfully maintained toilets — a small detail that genuinely adds to the overall homey vibe!

Restaurant
Mixát is a spacious and stylish addition to Budapest's craft beer scene, offering a wide variety of beers including piney, citrusy IPAs, sour ales, and blackcurrant ciders from its 32 taps. Situated in the Palace Quarter near the bustling Mikszath ter square, this expansive venue provides ample seating and a great selection of pizzas alongside their impressive beer offerings. The interior is charming with different rooms and even space for live performances.
I celebrated my birthday there and the communication was perfect since the reservation. The waiter who took care of my table was very nice and helpful, the service was fast, drinks were good.. thanks, team Mixat!

We were lucky enough to be staying at a hotel near this restaurant, so we went to Mixat for dinner two days in a row, and both times the food was delicious. The pizzas are very thin, just as we like them, and the tomato sauce, as well as the rest of the ingredients, are of the highest quality. The club sandwich, the Cuban sandwich with chicken, the tagliatella Bolognese, and the Caesar salad were simply spectacular... ALL of them!!! The restaurant is very spacious with plenty of tables. The staff's attention matches the quality of the restaurant's cuisine. We will definitely return.

Unlucky 2 nights ago I have been to this restaurant with 4 more friends (5 in total). We arrived around 9 and we ordered 2 pizzas, 2 schnitzels and a burger. My main complaining regards the pizzas because the other orders arrived after around 20/25 minutes while my friend and I have been waiting the beauty of 90 minutes for 2 pizzas, so unreasonable. When we noticed the waiter that we didn't receive the pizzas he was surprised and told us, after a quick check to the internal system, that the pizza maker didn't receive the order for s technical problem (I have been working in food service and I know it can happen). After 30 more minutes still no pizzas and the same waiter told us that the pizza maker had turned off the oven. At the end we received 2 pizzas (supposed to be 32 cm). Mine which was a capricciosa was missing part of the crust that 100% has been cut off because burnt, my friend's pizza (margherita) was around 22 cm. But the worst of everything has been the manager. Once at the cash I have paid full price (once again unreasonable considering the 90 minutes wait) and when I pointed out to the manager the situation and my deep disappointment his reaction was, which a face that needed to be slapped, a meaningless thank you. You don't treat customers like this. Problems can occur, errore can be made but AT LEAST, a sorry was more than necessary. P.S for 5 minutes the alarm has been sounding deafening and many tables, including ours, have been forced to stay out for the time needed to fix (5 minutes, again unreasonable amount of time to shut the alarm system). I hope you can improve your way of dealing with people, your manager is possibly one of the rudest person I have met in my life, shameful behavior.

One of the most underrated places in Budapest, imo. Great staff, great atmosphere, amazing beer and good food. We loved it all. We were 3 couples plus an elderly and two kids and we all loved it. 100% recommend, and if I had more days in Budapest I would definitely go here for beer. TIP: If you are not sure what to order, go with the staff’s choice. All of iur drinks were recommended by the staff and we loved those

Unfortunately I received a very sad looking dish with zero effort for presentation. I ordered the Honey Ribs, as I seen it on another review here. Mine came and looked nothing like the other guests, and also didn’t have the corn 🌽 with it. It was just a plate of chips with a rack of ribs slapped on it. No sauces were offered or some type of wet wipes for your fingers. The drinks were ok, if you like a full glass of ice and no liquids. Would not recommend if your looking to fine dine. It’s ok to grab a bite to eat.

Food was average, my Rebel berry was okay. Reminds sour berry beer, but was a bit too sweet for me. The interior is nice and the staff were kind and friendly.
Anastasia K — Google review
It’s a huge place with lots of seating, so if all other places are packed, it’s always a safe choice. Their beer selection is great, and it is their pizzas that are even better. Highly recommend it for a group gathering, it’s light, spacious, and not noisy.
Miklos S — Google review
We had only beers. They have 32 different type of beers, we ordered 6 of them. They were all awful. All tasted different, we couldn’t even finish. The bartender was attentive even tho he was alone. I wouldn’t recommend drinking beers there.

Interesting theater. Has several venues, loved the smaller one across the street. You will find Hungarians spoken and English spoken plays. Check the timetable for cool stuff.

I visited the program, room 11 in the Madhouse! It was funny, spiritual, romantic, calm and crazy in one! The ambiance of this dungeon theater in a kind of cellar is really unique. You sit between the charachters , even a chair for 2 persons is really in the middel of the stage... really funny and crazy! I love it so much!

A really nice venue in the heart of Budapest, close to the synagogue. It's alternative in style, cosy, friendly, with good variety of programs.

One of the best high quality second hand clothing stores in Pest. Definitely worth a visit if you are looking for something unique.

What a gem of a vintage shop! They have an amazingly well curated selection of men’s and women’s vintage clothing and shoes at totally reasonable prices. It was a pleasure going through all of the items, which were sorted by color and just appreciating the uniqueness of each piece. It’s clear that the owners really take their time selecting everything you see. I got a really cool vest and a pair of sunglasses. Can’t wait to come back next time we’re in Budapest! The street it is on is lovely as well. Good vibes all around!

Beautiful hidden jem in the middle of the city. Don't plan on it, just find it accidentally

It's veey underwhelming to be honest. Look at the pictures posted in the other reviews on Google...that's it. It's just that, a small tiny outdoor sitting place with some marble slabs on the wall and plants/branches growing on them. It's pretty small and like sure if you come across it, it has a nice insta story vibe, but there's literally nothing else to see or so there.
