Belvárosi Disznótoros, located in Budapest's downtown area, is a casual dining spot with a focus on meat. It was visited by the late Anthony Bourdain and features traditional Hungarian butchery and fresh food.
Great food with huge portions. Their prices are a little more than average but portions are large. You are taking your food as self service. There are places to sit inside and upper floor. There are variety of food is served: chicken, duck, beef, pork. We eat duck leg and goulash. Definitely goulash is huge and satisfying.
Koray K — Google review
Everything was perfect. The hungarian food was amazing however the meals were a little bit salty for us. We had 2 beef gulash soups, a sausage and a duck. We really enjoyed the food. Also the place has no chairs which was also a downside for us
Egehan — Google review
The best blood and liver sausage I've ever tasted and trust me I've tried many. Mangalica steak was OK. Order the sausages and meat, do not take too many side dishes as we did. Place is simple, crowdy and perfect for a quick lunch. The service was super nice and helpful.
Klaudiusz M — Google review
Walked past this grill resto and it didn’t disappoint. Offers authentic grilled hungarian meat with side dishes including all sorts of salad and rice. The grilled pork and sausages with corn and potato salad were amazing.
Deinn V — Google review
Everything looked so good so I was unsure of what to get but I went with the duck & mashed potatoes and some pickled veggies. It was delicious! I loved the mashed potatoes! And the duck was tasty too. I had them heat up all my food in microwave as I like my food hot. The pickled beets was the best I have had in a long time and I topped it off with a draft local beer. My friend got the curry chicken, it was so so. Overall it was a good experience!
Kiesha M — Google review
The sausage was good. Duck is dry. Not really worth the money compared to more traditional Hungarian soup bars. A bit of a tourist trap
Pranay C — Google review
Amazing food, very friendly staff and the atmosphere was perfect.. Everything we tried was delicious and tasted authentic, definitely a must visit when you are int Budapest.

You must try these sausages if you're ever in Budapest! The blood sausage was my favorite; it was absolutely delicious. The pickles were nothing special, but they were fine.

Cultural center
Szimpla Kert is a must-visit in Budapest, known for being one of the oldest and most famous ruin bars in the city. Located in the Jewish quarter, this huge pub is filled with an eclectic mix of old items and even features a disused Trabant car. The building itself is impressive, adorned with diverse objects hanging from walls and ceilings. Visitors can enjoy live music, food, a market area, and a garden within its alternative decor.
Amazing open-air experience! This place is absolutely fantastic – an open patio with multiple bars, each offering something unique. The atmosphere is vibrant yet relaxed, perfect for any occasion. The cocktails are simply outstanding – creative, perfectly balanced, and beautifully presented. A must-visit spot if you love great drinks and an amazing vibe!
Roni S — Google review
Unique quirky one of its kind bar. It’s definitely worth a visit when in Budapest. We went early evening on Friday before sundown. It was not very crowded. The drinks are not overpriced. Didn’t try any food
Varsha D — Google review
Such a unique place - as a tourist you HAVE to go. Buzzing place at night but particularly I recommend going during the day. You get to see how great this place is and everything it has. Day drinking in a ruin bar will easily become the highlight.
Rituja R — Google review
I don’t go to bars, so I haven’t experienced Szimpla Kert at night, but visiting during the Sunday market was really nice! From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., local producers offer a wide range of fresh and artisanal products, including breads, cheeses, honey, jams, yogurts, pasta, and traditional Hungarian sweets. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, and entry is free—perfect for anyone wanting to explore the local culture in an authentic way.
Luana B — Google review
Hands down one of the highlights of my trip to Budapest. Beautiful randomness. Multiple rooms and vibes. Great music. Great drinks. Amazing ambiance. What more could you ask for?
Eric C — Google review
Such a cool and new experience for me! I went both day and night, and they both had two very different vibes. I would recommend getting a coffee in the morning to explore the flea market as well and at night visiting around 7-8pm to avoid the queue (weekend) and grabbing a cherry ale. The cherry ale was lovely and the interior blew my mind. Strongly recommend to visit!
Emma — Google review
Fun and vibrant spot with great energy! The decor is quirky and full of character, and the atmosphere is lively every night. Drinks are good, though a bit pricey and crowded at times
Sadra — Google review
We visited early evening around 6pm and it was busy but very very touristy. And the service is very poor, plus the drinks are so expensive - we would not go back here as it’s not a “local” experience. So many other places around here with much more atmosphere and authenticity. It’s a series of rooms spread over two floors and centered around a large open courtyard. Saying that, I’m glad we went to see what the hype was all about. But I believe that if you’re in your 20’s then this place is where it all happens and it starts to come into its own after 11pm and into the early hours of the morning!

The Central Market Hall in Budapest is a restored neogothic hall that offers a diverse shopping and dining experience. The ground floor features grocery produce, including Hungarian paprika, fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese, meat, pastries, wine, chocolate, and jams. On the first floor, visitors can find souvenirs and various food stands offering a wide range of culinary delights. This three-story market is an ideal place to shop for local goods while enjoying lunch and picking up souvenirs.
The building was designed and built by Samu Pecz in 1897. The market offers a wide variety of stalls on three floors. The entrance gate has a neo-Gothic touch. A special architectural feature is the roof, which was renovated with colorful Zsolnay tiles from Pécs. The building is 10,000 square meters in size and is covered with a steel structure. During the Second World War, the market was heavily damaged. It was not until 1991 that a thorough renovation was undertaken, which restored it to its original splendor. The building was reopened in 1997, and in 1999 it was awarded the FIABCI Prix d'Excellence. The Central Market is still one of the city's most popular tourist attractions. Most of the stalls on the ground floor offer produce, meat, pastries, sweets, spices and spirits. You can find paprika spice, Tokaj wine, Túró Rudi, kolbász sausages and salamis there. On the second mezzanine floor there are restaurants and stalls selling tourist souvenirs. In the basement there are fishmongers, stalls with selected vegetables and a few specialized butchers.
Erik V — Google review
It is a pleasant location to explore and capture memorable photographs. The scenery offers ample opportunities for creative compositions and stunning visuals. Although the surroundings are beautiful, the dining experience could be improved. Hopefully, future visits will bring enhancements to the culinary offerings. Overall, it remains a lovely place to visit.
Jey A — Google review
We visited the market hall on a Sunday and were really impressed. The building itself is beautiful, and there are many different stalls offering local delicacies. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the people were very friendly. The only downside was that, since it was Sunday, some of the stalls were closed. Because of that, I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5. Still, it’s definitely worth a visit!
Jakob H — Google review
It is the largest indoor market in Budapest, located at one end of the famous Váci utca. It is located in a building whose facade is built in a neo-Gothic style, very pleasing to the eye and in harmony with the architecture of the neighboring buildings. Inside, on the ground floor you will find many shops with local cold cuts, dairy, wines and other products. In the basement is the fish market. You can reach the upper level by several stairs but also by an escalator, located in close proximity of the main entrance. Access to the shops on the first floor is along corridors that look like balconies. Here are numerous gift/souvenir shops but also the Fakánal Etterem restaurant, which, if you want to taste the flavors of traditional Hungarian food, you must definitely make a stop. We did and we did not regret it. At lunchtime, when we arrived, we had to be a little patient to get to the desired menu, but it was worth it. I treated myself with a goulash soup and a portion of stuffed cabbage rolls. Everything was very tasty. I consider this place to be recommended to visit.
Cri B — Google review
The Central Market Hall in Budapest is a wonderful place to explore if you want to experience local Hungarian culture in one spot. The market is housed inside a beautiful, well-organised historic building that feels lively but not chaotic. Everything is neatly arranged, and it’s easy to navigate through the different sections. You can find plenty of authentic Hungarian products here — from fresh local vegetables and spices to handmade crafts and souvenirs. There are also food stalls offering traditional dishes, so you can enjoy a snack or meal right inside the market while soaking in the atmosphere. The vendors are friendly and take pride in their products, making the experience feel genuine rather than touristy. There’s a good mix of local shoppers and visitors, which adds to its charm. The market also has clean, paid toilet facilities, which is convenient if you plan to spend more time browsing. Whether you’re looking for paprika, embroidered linens, or just a good place to people-watch, the Central Market Hall offers it all. It’s an enjoyable and colourful stop that captures the real spirit of Budapest in a single building.
AKASH U — Google review
Lots of fresh food of all varieties, including meat, vegetables and baked goods. Paprika of every flavor and size. Goodies to eat and souvenirs for the trip home. It can be very crowded so have some patience. Many of the vendors are closed on Sunday, especially the fresh food vendors.
Tom F — Google review
A traditional and interesting market to visit in Budapest. It’s worth checking out for its architecture and the variety of local products like spices, wines, and embroidered goods. It’s also a nice spot to buy souvenirs, but prices tend to be a bit higher, especially at the shops near the entrance.
Luana B — Google review
Architecture wise it’s a beautiful building and so we only spent a few minutes inside as the numerous market stalls didn’t really appeal to us. You can however find various stalls to suit various tastes from meats, fish and other food stalls to more traditional Hungarian shops. There were also a number of restaurants inside.

Két Szerecsen Bistro is a charming 2-floor venue located on Nagymezo utca, also known as the Pest Broadway in Budapest. This cozy bistro offers a blend of Hungarian dishes, tapas-style plates, and breakfast options. The ambiance exudes a trendy yet sophisticated vibe with North African ornaments and Spanish flavors. The restaurant's intimate atmosphere reminiscent of Parisian bistros makes it an ideal spot for a romantic dinner or a leisurely lunch.
Absolutely delicious food with excellent service. We are on the patio which was very nice and clean. We had the Hungarian pork, beef cheeks, and risotto entrees followed by poppy seed cake which was all fantastically tasty. Would certainly dine again on our next trip.
Wendi B — Google review
Lovely dining experience! I went here with my family twice during our holiday and both times, the food was superb and the service was polite, friendly and prompt. The portion sizes were generous and beautifully presented with a wide range of options for all dietary needs. The drinks were also of a very reasonable price, especially the homemade syrups and lemonades! I recommend the duck breast with goat's cheese and pomegranate sauce, as well as the passion fruit and pineapple lemonade (both seen in the picture attached). However, I believe you would be very satisfied with whatever you order on the menu :)

Really enjoyed eating here. We had a variety of food Pasta, Thai noodles and all were really good. Very nice Hungarian Merlot. A pleasant evening at a good restaurant. If I lived here, it would be a regular for me.

Simple Hungarian food like beef goulash is great here with decent prices. This one is an honest place - not a tourist trap. I also tried their Moroccan lamb tapas and they're very good. The atmosphere is cozy with also seating available outside.

The food was outstanding, we had 3 courses each and there wasn't a bad dish amongst them. Lovely atmosphere aswell. A little more expensive but worth every penny. Highly recommend this place.

A Hidden Gem in the Heart of Budapest 🌟 From the very first visit, it became our absolute favorite spot during our stay. The cozy atmosphere, warm lighting, cozy decor created the perfect feel after a day of exploring the city. The staff were incredibly kind, always smiling, happy to offer recommendations. Every dish we tried was a masterpiece. The flavors were original and perfectly balanced, the presentation was stunning, and the focus on seasonal ingredients made each meal feel fresh and thoughtful. From appetizers to desserts, everything was crafted with care and creativity. We loved it so much, we came back several times during our trip. I recommend cucumber&mint lemonade and mushroom risotto😍 💖 If you’re looking for a spot where culinary artistry meets heartfelt hospitality, this is it. I truly fell in love with this place and can’t wait to return.

Bistro
Stand25 Bistro, the brainchild of talented chefs Szabina Szullo and Tamas Szell, offers a delightful twist on traditional Hungarian cuisine in a relaxed setting. Located within the vibrant Hold Street Market Hall, this eatery aims to redefine local staples like goulash soup and turogomboc dumplings, showcasing their potential beyond heavy, greasy dishes. Since its inception in 2017, Stand25 has quickly become a favorite among locals who appreciate its innovative approach to peasant fare.
A fantastic place with an open kitchen, impressively, there’s no smell at all. The service was professional and attentive from start to finish. The food was excellent; we were welcomed with a delicious starter of fresh bread, butter, and pâté. The steak was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. Even when my colleagues weren’t happy with their beer, the waiter replaced it immediately without any fuss. Highly recommended!

Excellent Dinner ! Fantastic local wine. Very friendly and helpful staff. We had the best langos and goulash i have ever had. The main dishes were great as well. If I come back to Budapest, definitely because of this restaurant
MARCHESE N — Google review
I went there yesterday, we were around 10 people and we sat upstairs on the private floor. The food we got was excellent also the place was stunning. But our waitress was unfocused and made mistakes with our order. We booked the place for 9 pm and were bot told that the kitchen closed at 9:30pm so we had to oreder quickly. To their credit, they prepared everything quickly despite the mistakes in the order, and we had no complaints about the food.
ינון ל — Google review
Natural typical Hungarian restaurant. This place takes Hungarian dishes and elevate them multiple levels up. My duck potatoes and red cabbage was so delicious. I’m not quite sure how they made the red cabbage into the purée they did but it was delicious. That kind of goes with every dish that came out recognizable, but taken to a whole Nother level. The staff couldn’t have been more friendly or attentive. If you want a special night out and are willing to pay a little bit extra for it you will definitely get your moneys worth here.
Steve G — Google review
Had a great start to a trip with stand25. The goulash was delicious, flavourful and had tender beef. The pork dish also had a great sauce. Salmon was cooked perfectly and the risotto (albeit a bit heavy) was yummy as well. A wonderful introduction to Hungarian food!
Jinash G — Google review
Our dinner at Stand25 Bistro in Budapest was a real culinary highlight. The open kitchen was the centerpiece of the experience, and we were lucky enough to be seated right in front of it – watching the chefs at work added an extra layer of excitement to the evening. The food was simply outstanding. The lángos and goulash soup were the best we’ve had anywhere in Budapest, rich in flavor and perfectly executed. The salmon on risotto was sensational, with a perfectly crisp skin and a full, balanced taste. The wild boar ragout with homemade round noodles was also excellent. For dessert, both the palacsinta and the Esterházy torte impressed us with their quality. The wine pairing with the main course was well chosen and complemented the dishes beautifully. The service was professional and efficient, though a little more distant compared to the warm and jovial atmosphere we’ve experienced elsewhere. Nevertheless, Stand25 Bistro is absolutely worth a visit. It offers refined Hungarian cuisine in a tasteful setting and is a true gem for those looking for something more sophisticated in Budapest’s dining scene.
Cmask10 — Google review
We were very lucky to have a table right next to the kitchen, we can look at chefs working on all the dishes as well as the wait staff interacting with the kitchen. That’s made our meal that much more fun. The overall food was very delicious and interesting, the only slight disappointment was the deconstructed pork knuckle plate. Was looking for a full knuckle with skin and all, instead we have only few pieces of meat in some kind of sauce.
Jesse L — Google review
Very fine and enjoyable. We mostly liked the starters - excellent Gulash Soup, good Burratta & the toast next to it We took the Gaspacho - but it was not successful... Main courses were very nice..loved the Gratin Floating Islaned for dessert was very good - nice move with the rosted almonds 👍 Thank you Stand25 for a great evening ❤️

Tucked away in the 7th district, Remma's Bistro is a gem known for its professional service and food made with love. The ambiance is simple and cozy, welcoming guests in casual attire. A solo lunch experience revealed an indulgent menu featuring the best goulash in Pest and an incredible roasted confit duck leg.
The food was delicious, The service is fabulous, Not less then 6 stars if google would have that. Golash soup really had deep tastes of smoked paprika, tomatoes, but still very fresh. The rest was goood too

We ordered Black pudding wontons, Tartare, and roasted pork sausage, We ordered most expensive wine Korozs Syrah. Wine was overpriced. Tartar steak was not seasoned well, sausage was perfect and black pudding was delicious. So if I can give 4.4. It would be good. Service was very good.

Second visit to Budapest and this is the only restaurant I had to get back to.. I enjoyed many fine meals while in Budapest, usually focusing on local cuisine, but Remmas Bistro was a cut above. Excellent quality with interesting presentations and combinations, not just Hungarian style, but overall delightful. I was really in the mood for salmon tonight, but was not excited about the pea, gnocchi and caviar preparation. Well, I should have known better because Remma's knows better. It was delicious and a sublime pairing. Any future visits to Budapest will most definitely include a stop at Remma's Bistro
Laura B — Google review
A modern style restaurant serving traditional Hungarian dishes. Very attentive and friendly staff who were knowledgeable about their menu and able to recommend courses. The pork cheek starter and roasted cauliflower were both simple and tasty. The main courses we had were chicken breast with risotto and corn, and a breaded pork loin with a homemade potato salad. Both were very well cooked although don't expect any accompaniments with the loin. In my opinion, it would have benefited from another vegetable or perhaps a salad. Nevertheless, really nice food, great service and a central location.

Restaurant
Nestled on a quaint cobblestone street within the enchanting World Heritage site of Buda Castle, Pest-Buda Bistro has been delighting diners for over five decades. Housed in a historic building dating back to 1696, this charming eatery is led by Roy Zsidai and features Chef Lajos Lutz at the helm, who brings his expertise from the renowned Gundel Restaurant. The bistro offers an authentic taste of traditional Hungarian cuisine, celebrating flavors that have evolved over centuries.
I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. It was peaceful and clean, tucked away from the crowds—just the kind of atmosphere I was looking for. I truly enjoyed a traditional Hungarian dessert, savoring each bite while listening to the distant hum of the city. It’s one of the few truly positive memories I have from my time in Hungary. I’ll definitely come back again. Many thanks to Martin!

Great food, kind staff, beautiful and cozy place! If you are visiting Matthias Church, this is an excellent stop not too close to the crowds but still incredibly close to everything. As always, prioritize local cuisine! Try the best they have to offer! If you are not willing to experience this fundamental part of a country’s culture, don’t worry, they have plenty of options for unadventurous guests! I was not very hungry and they suggested the classic fish soup, to which I added a salad and a side of their delicious homemade bread! Enjoy this food, place, and atmosphere!

Rude waiter. My husband and I went in for an evening meal. Told by the waiter we would have to be quick to decide what we wanted to eat as the kitchen would be closing in 10 minutes.. it was 8.35 pm. The waiter then showed us to our table with a lot of huffing and puffing and tutting! This restaurant adds a service charge to your bill, but that doesn’t stop the waiter hovering with the card machine pointing out the options for further tips before you realise its already added. Food was barely warm and they forgot the bread. Lovely dessert was the saving grace.
Lizzie B — Google review
I strongly do not recommend this restaurant. My experience there was extremely disappointing. The portions were tiny, and the main waiter was rude, constantly more focused on making us leave quickly or order more than providing proper service.During our visit, a couple arrived and was told that if they wanted coffee, they couldn’t sit alone because all tables were reserved. This was clearly false, as only three tables were occupied, and it seemed the staff simply made this up to refuse service. After paying the bill, it started raining heavily. We stood under the restaurant’s umbrella, but the main waiter walked around with a look that clearly suggested we should leave immediately. He didn’t approach us himself—instead, he instructed the second waiter to start clearing tables and even said he needed to close the umbrella. Only at the very end did he come over, in an angry tone, telling us to leave so he could close the umbrella. He could have shown some basic human decency, especially in such heavy rain, but chose to act rude and impatient instead. The staff’s behavior was completely unacceptable. The attitude toward customers was dismissive, rude, and unprofessional. This was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. I strongly advise against visiting this place—you will likely leave frustrated and mistreated.

While we didn’t stay at the hotel, we enjoyed a wonderful evening meal at the restaurant. We were seated promptly and menus were provided right away. We asked our server for advice about which foods and drinks represented Hungarian cuisine best. We loved the goulash stew and the cucumber salad with sour cream. Both were delicious and paired well with the local wine and beer he had suggested. The service was friendly and attentive and the cost very reasonable. I recommend this restaurant for a meal with a local and friendly feel.

Déryné is a two-floor brasserie in Budapest that offers a blend of Hungarian and French cuisine. Situated at the foot of Castle Hill, it is one of the oldest restaurants in the Buda districts. The restaurant features an in-house bakery, a garden, and daily piano performances. While not the most budget-friendly option, Déryné provides a unique dining experience with its French-influenced Hungarian dishes and an extensive wine selection.
The place is charming, large, with a variety of indoor and outdoor seating options for all tastes. It's luxurious, so don't do as I did and come well dressed. The food is delicious with good, fresh ingredients and freshly prepared. The service is very friendly and very professional. The price is in line with the quality of the place; you should come with a full wallet.

I really wanted to give this restaurant a 5 — and trust me, I’m holding on to that last star so tightly! This spot was recommended by a friend, and from the moment we arrived, we knew we were in for a great evening. The waiter greeted us warmly and reassured us they’d find us a table, which they did without any hassle. The atmosphere was absolutely spectacular — beautiful, elegant, and with a sexy charm. A DJ was playing in the background, adding to the vibe without being intrusive. The restaurant features both indoor and outdoor seating, each space beautifully designed with dim romantic lighting, warm wood accents, and plants woven into the decor. We chose to sit outside and it was perfect. We turned to Google Maps for food suggestions and ended up ordering the eggplant schnitzel as a starter and the veal escalope for our main. The portions were generous, the presentation was excellent, and the quality of the food truly stood out. Everything was full of flavor and thoughtfully prepared. To top it off, they welcomed us with complimentary bread, olive oil, and thyme — and ended the meal with delicious Hungarian bubbles on the house. It’s those extra touches that really make a difference. A special shoutout to Martin, our waiter, who was incredibly helpful and added so much warmth to our experience. We highly recommend this place — it’s absolutely worth the visit!

Truly an incredible meal. I've eaten at a lot of good places and this is top 5 if not the best. This place should have a Michelin star. Every dish was phenomenal, words really can't describe how perfect everything was. This is fine dining at the highest level. It's tied together with incredible service. Our server Matte was on point and really sets an example of how a server should command the whole meal and delivery

After a disappointing visit some time ago, I decided to give Déryné another chance and I’m so happy I did! I completely fell in love with this place again. The food is delicious, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. Every time I’ve been back, the experience has been excellent. The service is also 10/10: each time we were served by different waiters, and every one of them was kind and attentive. They paid attention to every little detail and made us feel truly welcomed. The atmosphere and decoration make it such a warm, cozy, and elegant place to be. It’s one of my favorite spots in Budapest, and I always look forward to going back. I recently celebrated my birthday here, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. Overall, Déryné has completely won me back. Amazing food, amazing service, amazing vibe. One of the best places in town!
Ekaterina M — Google review
Vibe is great, loved the live jazz, service was attentive and not overbearing. But: the prices are just not justified by the quality of the food. Don’t get me wrong — there is nothing problematic with the food. It’s perfectly fine. But this is a restaurant priced at double Michelin star level, and, that it is not.
Evan K — Google review
Everything about Déryné is just perfect. I would give this restaurant 10/10. The food we ordered were a beef steak (dry aged chuck steak from local), octopus ceviche and jamon serrano. Our server Kristof recommended us with local wines to pair with, which were all amazing. I will definitely recommend this place to those who are looking for a great place to wine and dine! Thank you Kristof for an amazing recommendation throughout the dinner 😊

loved the ambiance. everyone was incredibly attentive throughout the entire night. although the portions are rather small, they were very tasty. we got the burrata salad, wagyu, carpaccio, and the fried eggplant side (which was surprisinly the best item) and all of them were fantastic. music style & volume definitely made our night. incredible bistro that lightens up this quiet area!

Located in the Buda Castle, 21 - Magyar Vendéglő - Hungarian bistro offers a contemporary take on traditional Hungarian cuisine. The restaurant focuses on maintaining the original taste of native dishes while preparing them in a healthier manner using modern cooking techniques and locally-sourced ingredients. The menu is concise, featuring only the finest of Hungarian gastronomy.
Highly recommend this spot if you're visiting Budapest—or feeling adventurous and want to try frog legs for the first time! Our waiter, Ronald, was an absolute gem—super friendly and accommodating. I wanted to try the frog legs without the creamed spinach pottage and as an appetizer instead of a main, and he made it happen with no fuss. The fish was incredibly fresh and flavorful, the chicken was perfectly cooked (not dry at all!), and the side veggies and wine tied everything together beautifully. Oh, and the dessert? Absolutely divine. Everything felt fresh, unique, and truly memorable. We’ll definitely be back!

We were highly disappointed that we came to 21 after…probably 7 years and the food was no-where close to what it used to be. We literally ordered the same dishes: the risotto, the pancake and the gulas and we didn’t like either of them, they were obviously more expensive. We didn’t like the lemonade either. The water and the house appetisers were good. The place wasn’t crowded and the serving was nice.

We had a lovely dinner here. We didn't have a reservation but they managed to fit us in. The food was delicious and presented beautifully. We had the rosè duck with pumpkin pureè and the transylvanian bear stew - both were amazing (the bear stew was one of the nicest dishes we had when in Budapest). Our server, Roland, was so friendly and helped us pick out different wines to go with our meals. All in all, a very nice dinner in a lovely area - would definitely recommend! For the price tag, you’d think you were walking into a secure facility not a disappointment with a white tablecloth. The Wiener Schnitzel came with a shell so detached from the meat, I started wondering if it had commitment issues. The meat itself? Chewy, kinda tasteless, and suspiciously lacking that freshly prepared integrity. The mashed potatoes were okay. But if your highest score goes to mashed potatoes, something went wrong in the kitchen or the concept. The Rib Eye, ordered medium, arrived nearly raw. Unless you’re a vampire or a predator with enhanced digestion, it’s not going to hit right. Presentation didn’t save it. And at that price? I expected better quality control. Staff was good. Atmosphere? Nice. Service wasn’t the issue, but if you’re going to charge high-end rates, your kitchen better keep up.

We had a lovely dinner with a stunning view of St. Matthew's Cathedral. The service was fast, friendly, and very professional. Our waiter,Lajos, welcomed us warmly, let us choose a table we liked, and even helped us with recommendations and serving our dishes. We tried the goulash soup, the schnitzel, and the chicken paprikash — all were excellent choices, full of flavor and well-prepared. The stew was a bit underwhelming compared to the rest, but still enjoyable. Overall, everything we ordered was tasty and satisfying. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, and the location is hard to beat. If you're looking for authentic Hungarian food in a great setting with attentive service, this place is definitely worth a visit!

Akos, a local, recommended the Chicken Paprikash here at 21 Magyar Vendeglo and Da'vid was my gracious server. His friendly helpfulness was beyond expectations. He asked where i was from (I was dining solo) and made me feel welcome, despite my lack of a reservation. He even charged my phone after a long day of site seeing and taking photos! The food was excellent, including the presentation! I highly recommend this restaurant.

Although the decor is simple and unpretentious, this widely acclaimed eatery is considered the best in its district. Combining Hungarian and Jewish cuisines using age-old recipes, Fülemüle Étterem serves up delicious local dishes such as chicken and steak.
A really wonderful experience in Jewish culinary. I enjoyed every dish. The quality of the food was fantastic and in my opinion true to its origin. The atmosphere is exactly how I want it to be at a local Jewish restaurant. Overall I am really happy that we went here! The server was very attentive and helpful by selecting the food

Nice and relaxing atmosphere (although the collection of private pictures on the wall is of dubious taste). The food is delicious and expensive for Budapest standards. Good service, with staff speaking English. We had the Fried goose liver with potato chips (very good but also very fried!) and the Pork with ratatouille (very delicious and spicy). We drank water and a draft beer and paid about 12k ft (~ 37 euros), including service.
Luca N — Google review
We stumbled upon the restaurant on a blog post. Reservation by phone was not a problem. Service was helpful and attentive. The restaurant's interior is definitely an original, but adds to the charm in my personal opponion. We recommend you try the Lescó and the Sólet with duck liver, but also the crispy duck leg was outstanding. For a desert was unfortunately no place left, but the plum Palinka was a perfect finish. I would come back next time!

Wonderful Hungarian-Jewish restaurant with the feel of eating in a family front room - photos on the walls and a lovely atmosphere. Food plentiful and very reasonable priced as well as being delicious. Good house red.

A cosy family place with an atypical menu due to its speciality: Hungarian-Jewish food. Food items are very good, albeit a bit scarce where portion size is concerned (not dessert!), staff is cordial and the place is good value for money.

Wow, what an excellent experience! We wanted something low key and with a drive from the city centre, to some quiet neighbourhood away from tourists. We got quiet, but it was so fine!!! The people were professional and the food was exceptional. I had the best paprikas (from veal) of my entire life, and it is not an unknown food for me. The duck leg was also amazing. Loved it!
Claudia K — Google review
I ate there several times and the dinner was always exceptional, high quality food & drinks is waiting for guests there. Very polite service...and it's not expensive at all...
Dusan V — Google review
It is still a good place, but I liked it more about 10 years ago. It used to have a wide selection of wines from my favourite vineyards. It still serves good wines, but not the selection you would expect. The service is still very professional and friendly. Food is good, tradicional dishes with some twists, as advertized. To notice the innovative aspects, it helps to know the original version, but they also can be enjoyed for what they are.
L T — Google review
The staff was very nice and helpful. We only had coffee so I can't say review the food at this time. The coffee was fine, however I found the Melange I had to be way smaller in volume than anywhere else I had this type of coffee. It's usually a whole glass or mug full, this was half. The taste was OK and I guess they make it this way here... However I would say the place is a bit overpriced judging by what we got.

Best Hungarian cuisine! Traditional Hungarian food transformed for modern days. Service is more than professional, even in English language. Extra: this is the only place where foreigners should start to taste great pàlinka!

Fantastic food, awesome summer location (on the terrace). Finally a place in Hungary where the waiters are funny and can communicate what they are serving in English also. No surprise I always try to make it here at least once when I visit Budapest!
Peter T — Google review
I've been here like 4 times in the last 3 years but my last visit was a bit of a negative experience. The staff speaks English quite well but this time I felt we didn't get enough help and explanation about the dish my husband was ordering. And of course it wasn't what he expected. We also ordered mineral water and the waiter said they had filtered tap water. He looked at us like as If we were talking French. And we didn't get the mineral water. We couldn't finish off the food so we asked for takeaway. The boxes were charged for like 1 euro. Its not about the price but when you go to to a place and you spend like 70 euros on a dinner I think this price could be calculated within other costs. What I'm saying it's not a cheap place, the guests are local, wealthy people. Propably the staff is already got used to them this is why we didn't get the service I had couple of years ago.

Cupakos Restaurant is a popular spot in Budapest's lively district, offering a unique dining experience reminiscent of an old butcher shop. Diners can watch their meals being prepared right before their eyes. While the focus is on meaty delights, there are also vegetarian options available.
Absolutely delicious and creative traditional cooking. Open, clean kitchen and pleasant, light atmosphere. Staff is really friendly and attentive. Prices incredibly low for the superb quality of the food. We went there two times in a row: The mains as well as the dessert were eye-opening. Definitely don't miss out on this gem when you are in Budapest!

absolutely fantastic restaurant concept, pleasant and cozy atmosphere with a modern style that suits it. Very nice and tasty staff. It is more complicated with food ... out of four meals, two were excellent, the next one said that it would be spicy and simply was. And the biggest disappointment was the duck leg, it was small and very stiff.
Thomas B — Google review
This was the first place I ate at while in Budapest and I got lucky. The food was awesome, the servers were very helpful, and I even came back a second time just because I enjoyed it so much. I got the sausage which was basic but still delicious. When perusing the menu I saw the pork knuckle which made me want to come back. I was perfectly done, with a crispy shell and tender throughout. They don't do anything super complicated but they do everything right and simple which is what makes this spot so perfect. I also suggest going with any of the Hungarian wines. There is a great selection and cheap. If you really want to do it right, finish with the homemade liqueur they make in house for the perfect compliment.
Tyler S — Google review
A friend from Budapest brought us here and I'm really thankful he did. This place is so authentic, hip, cool, cozy and great that we couldn't have a better time. Apart from the ambience, they serve really delicious local food. You should try the bones as a starter. Wow! Also I had duck intestines which I usually don't like but wanted to try. Also great. The Royal Aperitivo is great if you're into Negroni like cocktails!

Perfect place if you are a meat lover. Menu is not too long with many very tasty options. For the starter I would recommend meat platter to get the feeling of this place. For the main dish there are plenty of good options. If you want to go more for Hungarian style then veal paprikash is very tasty. Other proposal - knuckle of pork confited with beer - very tender :-)

We had dinner New Year's Eve and the experience was not very good. To start with they sat us in a table close the door and every time somebody in or out it was really cold; we told them but they refuse move us despite of having free tables. In addittion, the service was quite rude during all the dinner. Regarding the food, it was normal and quite expensive. Defenitely we don't recomend this place. There are lots of better restaurants in Budapest.

SO GOOD. Marrow toast and pork knuckle were stand out but goulash and sausages also great. For serious meat lovers, there’s nothing healthy about these dishes but they’re good food done really well. Service and ambience nice and chilled. Also great value given the quality of the meat.
