The 50 best Japanese food and restaurants in Lima

After being on the waiting list for a while, we decided to try our luck as a walk in customer. We were so fortunate that there was a slot and we were able to have an early dinner. As the 2025 number one restaurant in the world, we had high expectations. The staff were professional, friendly and explained clearly how we should eat each dish to get the best culinary experience. Each dish gave an amazing taste that is hard to describe and it is no wonder that this is the top restaurant in the world. All dishes were amazing, but my favourite was the scallop with urchin.

We visited the restaurant for the Maido Experience after it got given the #1 Restaurant in the World Award and were not disappointed at all. It was a truly unique experience from the moment we walked in until we left, from the staff greeting until the last goodbye. The restaurant is very tastefully decorated, with exquisite table setting and plates. The dining experience was phenomenal, with 14 different wonderful bites to try, each one with an amazing taste, texture, presentation, combination of flavours and of course a wonderful introduction by our waiter. It took us about 2 hours to go through each dish, with the perfect timing in between dishes for you to eat, savour, take in, enjoy and discuss with your friends. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and can’t wait to come back, next time maybe to focus on a dish or two. We consider ourselves very fortunate for having the opportunity to experience something like this. Thank you Misha for making it possible. ❤️

The food is good, but the storytelling is missing and the service mostly just lists the ingredients. The atmosphere is pleasant, the Nikkei–Peruvian fusion is impressive, but overall the experience felt more like casual dining.”

I’ve had really high expectations for Maido, as it was supposed to be one of the peaks of my trip to Peru. However, I left rather dissapointed. There was nothing wrong about the food, it was OK, but nothing special. Had better food many times. Don’t believe it was worth the price or the hype.

Such a fun and tasty dinner! The experience was great.. each course was delicious, a little adventurous, and my favorite part was the use of texture in every dish!! They are booked constantly so their reservations are strict and they should be! Timing of dishes was great and the sake selection is good.

How is this number one in the world? Did these people lose their taste buds in 2025? The meal started out okay but nothing spectacular. Could easily name 100 restaurants that were better than Maido that I’ve eaten at all over the world. They tried to copy Central in bringing in the raw ingredients to the table, but it’s a totally different vibe. The sushi rice was so poorly cooked, even just touching it with the chopstick I could tell it wasn’t right. It was hard and starchy… how can you mess up something so essential in Japanese cuisine? The glass noodles were all stuck together and gummy. And the dessert was just atrocious… chorizo flavored ice cream with a soup of lemongrass flavored soy milk. I’m sorry but it made me want to throw up. Such a disappointment all around.

Great decorations. Food presentation is amazing. However, for me, the taste is a bit overpowering, especially the citrus taste. For someone who loves Japanese food, the taste did not amaze me, but the presentation is great.

Astrid y Gastón is hands down my favourite restaurant in Lima. I have to come here each time I'm visiting. They have all classic peruvian dishes, but with a little twist. These are the better versions of already tasty dishes. I especially love banana and fried egg extension of lomo saltado. The seating area in the middle is beautiful and combination with the music makes unforgettable atmosphere. Reservation is recommend (reservations are usually seating indoor, so not in the middle with the tree). 5 out of 5.

Make sure you reserve your table in advance as this restaurant fills up even on weekdays. I absolutely loved eating here. The restaurant several different eating areas on different levels, so it does not seem as crowded or full as it really is. The table are spaced far enough not to feel claustrophobic and the overall volume of the restaurant is good enough to be able to conduct a conversation with your table mates without shouting. All, absolutely all, the cocktails, dishes, appetizers, and desserts we ordered were delicious. Service was very attentive, and helpful. Or server spoke fluent English and was able to describe it dishes perfectly. This restaurant is a must when traveling to Lima

This restaurant is in open air space, I mean the inside space is just as cold as sitting on the outside spaces. If I’ve known that I would have wear a warmer jacket to dinner instead of just a dress shirt. Few of us in our group were cold during the whole lovely dinner. The interior space is very pretty and sitting by the kitchen was a bonus, we get to see them cook and do magic with our food. All I remember was the food was excellent but I was cold.

This building is jaw droppingly beautiful, especially in the evening when bathed in the splendor of countless candles and dim lights, simply gorgeous! Food was delicious, loved everything I ordered especially the small bites. I rarely care about atmosphere, but this place is something special! Will definitely be back next time I'm in Lima!

We enjoyed the special 8-course tasting menu at Astrid & Gastón and it exceeded our expectations. Each dish was beautifully presented, well-executed, and full of flavor. The service was attentive and professional, and the elegant setting of Casa Moreyra made the evening even more memorable. A truly special dining experience that we look forward to revisiting in the future.

Full course was great - not sure why there is no Michellin guide in Lima but this would for sure be a 1 or eventuality 2 star experience. Very good service, good food quality, tasty - nice house too - looks like a colonial palace. We also need reservation for it.

In August 2024, I had the tasting menu. It was good, but I didn’t love everything. I’m not sure it was worth the ~Pen 800. When you get the tasting menu, you are seated in a special room. I would have given the restaurant 4 stars for the value for food on the tasting menu. I went back in August 2025 and ate a la carte and we loved it. The service (both times) was amazing. Outside, there are space heaters and blankets. So 5 stars for the a la carte. Each room is decorated differently and it is quite fun.

We were very excited to try the sushi here. We went for a late lunch and we're surprised at the doors were locked upon arrival. Luckily somebody opened them up because we were starving. We decided to order the premium sushi pack (boat) for four which was an assortment of assortment of nigiri and maki (rolls). The tuna here was maybe the best I've ever had but all the other cuts of fish and the rolls were a bit average.

This is the best Japanese restaurant in Mira Flores in my opinion. One of the best salmon sashimi I have ever tasted in my life, and the ramen was also top notch. I've traveled to Japan 3 times, so I know what I'm talking about. A must try if you're in the area!

Extremely mediocre sushi with lackluster service. I ordered the moriawase — the chef’s choice of 16 pieces of nigiri — and while the fish was fresh, the rice completely ruined the experience. Each piece was overstuffed with rice that felt straight out of an “all you can eat” sushi buffet in the U.S.: overly vinegared, overcooked, and packed into a dense, sticky clump. The texture was more like Southeast Asian sticky rice — heavy and gummy — rather than the light, airy, subtly sweet-and-sour sushi rice that forms the foundation of great nigiri. Because yes, great sushi is fundamentally about the rice — not just the fish. Any sushi chef will tell you that. I get that this isn’t Japan, and I don’t expect the chefs here to have undergone years of “rice apprenticeship”. But I did expect something better than gas station/shopping mall sushi, especially since the sushi selections had no real “fusion” angle to fall back on as an excuse for lack of authenticity. I did try one fusion dish — the udon carbonara — which was decent, but forgettable. It was also laughably small for a main dish, more like a tapas portion. The ambiance is upscale and refined, but the energy is dead. The staff didn’t seem like they wanted to be there. They wore Japanese samue robes and tossed around phrases like “irasshai” and “hai,” which just felt forced and cringey. So what is this place trying to be — a traditional sushi-ya or a modern fusion spot? It doesn’t commit to either, and in the end, it misses the mark on both.

The sushi here is excellent, but the service left a lot to be desired and significantly detracted from the experience. We had reserved for the bar area on Friday, Sept 19, since the rest of the restaurant was said to be fully booked. Upon arrival, we were seated in the bar area, which was clearly inferior to both the main dining space and the sushi bar itself. What was frustrating is that walk-ins without reservations were seated at better tables and even at the bar. When we asked our waitress about moving, she dismissed us quickly, insisting nothing was available, even though the bar was half empty. Only after my girlfriend approached a different staff member were we immediately offered a much better table in the main dining area. Our waitress never apologized until the very end, when the bill (and her tip) was on the table. This kind of attitude is unacceptable for a restaurant that positions itself as high-end. If you’re charging premium prices, the service should reflect that, not leave paying guests feeling ignored or misled. To be fair, other staff members were excellent: the hostess, for instance, noticed a fishbone in our sushi and replaced the plate without hesitation, even though we had already eaten half. The sushi itself is of very high quality. But ultimately, a fine restaurant is not just about food: it’s also about hospitality.

I was looking forward to this place since I heard this is where the known Acevichado roll was created. We had a reservation and we were 4 people. We got some of the sashimi recommended by the server and they were good, I think just one blew our mind. Then we tried the acevichado roll but it was ok, the sauce was good but the roll itself was too thick. Also, we got the Matsuei roll and we enjoyed that one. We ordered another roll recommended by the server, which was the Tartar, and that one was good too. The rolls are good size. The food was all right, the only thing that bothered me a little was that the server recommendations were pretty expensive. We don’t live here so for dollars is fine but for someone coming from some other places in South America, it can get pretty pricey, plus he was kind of pushy. Also, they have an open kitchen so you will end up smelling like food.

Absolutely loved this place! Fresh ingredients, beautifully presented dishes, and a cozy atmosphere. The sushi, tempura and maki were outstanding and the service was warm and attentive. Highly recommend!

Nice place with decent food. However, we found it way too expensive for the quality of the food, as well as the service.

The food, referring to the taste was good in general, no complaints on that part, but the wait between the plates was too long. In top of that you must now that you will have to order multiple courses to be satisfied, because the portions are quite small so go with time. About the prices, in my opinion, they have great plates which deserve the high cost, but there’s others that are quite average, not worth it.

Rafael delivers on service, ambiance, and cocktails, the lighting and music set the tone perfectly. Food is good but feels overpriced compared to Mayta, and it doesn’t spark the same excitement. Still, desserts are excellent and the overall experience is polished and enjoyable

A must visit spot with a great ambiance. This definitely feels like fine dining! Warm fresh bread to start and a great drinks list. A small food menu but all worth trying. The scallops are a must and a signature dish. Loved the special of the Crudo and then steak main.

This is supposedly rank 19th out of the top 50 restaurants in South America. We made our reservation 45 days in advance. To be honest our roasted pork belly, squid and few other dishes were good but I missed the magic dust (whatever that is). Maybe we have to get the tasting menu or wine pairing to get the full experience? Our waitress was professional but feels like she’s tired of us tourists and seems bored.

We stopped by and so glad we did! Juan was incredible. He created all of the cocktail recipes and they were amazing. He was so kind and showed us the beauty of pisco! Joaquin was very helpful and attentive as well. I wish we lived closer to this place, I would be there every day if I could!

The bar area is very nicely decorated and the cocktail I had was great (el capitan). The ceviche was nice but the crab pasta was just fine in my opinion. Overall the food was okay, but for the price point there are definitely better options elsewhere.

Come to Rafael for an art-filled, elevated atmosphere, attentive service, and deftly executed seafood-forward Peruvian-Italian fusion. I came here for my birthday lunch and it was my personal favorite over some other fine dining spots I tried around the city (did not make it to Maido up the street, but that’s in another price category!) Don’t skip the bread basket. It’s an assortment of delicious warm goodness. Ours came with whipped goat cheese, butter, and tomato jam. The scallop appetizer (scallops in lemon butter) is an absolute must-order and nothing short of sublime. We ordered two pasta mains, and while the duck ragu lacked depth of flavor and the portion was a bit small, the stracciatella-filled pasta with prawns, peas, and a light cream sauce was a winner. The dessert menu was also an absolute highlight and you absolutely must save room for dessert. It was my birthday so they gave me one dessert on the house and we also ordered one of the most mind-blowing desserts I’ve ever had: cherimoya royale which consisted of - from bottom to top: custard apple mousse, praline, a flambéed custard apple slice, custard apple sorbet, enrobed in custard apple foam. The combination of great execution, the balance of complexity and simplicity, and the outstanding service and atmosphere makes this a worthwhile stop on any Lima itinerary!

This experience is exquisite. Every dish we tried was decadent. Hard to top. Will return as often as possible!

This is Maido’s grandfather! It is an amazing traditional Peruvian Nikkei restaurant! Try the Erizo Tiradito!!

Excellent food with a very fun atmosphere. The service was very good, the food came out quickly and the server was very attentive. Delicious ceviche, lomo saltado, causa, and flan with coconut ice cream dessert. There so many good options to choose from, it was hard to order. Some of the best Peruvian food. Highly recommend it!

[5/5, Lima, Peru] Two lobsters and buttery angel hair pasta for 200 soles - a solid 6/5 and would come back just for this. The uni was good as well. The ebi fry, shrimp and fish tempura was amazing - crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, dipped in a light tempura sauce. The salt baked fish was also solid - it came with butter, minced garlic and minced ginger. For dessert, the chocolate soufflé was amazing. Everything else was good but didn’t stand out.

We had a great dinner experience in this restaurant! The appetizers as well as the entree were delicious! The service was excellent; our server was inviting, friendly and very attentive. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a great dinner experience.

Totally loved this place. Don’t be fooled by the restaurant’s decor, which has not been upgraded in about 20 years, or the lack of ambiance (which could have also been because of the late hour we arrived), this place offers incredible food. A must when in Lima. Definitely go for the Chita a la Sal with Crab Chaufa, and the buttery octopus which melts in your mouth.

Located in San Isidro, the restaurant were able to get me a table for lunch without prior reservation. The service was attentive and friendly, explaining each dish served. The nigiri and sashimi, along with the scallop ceviche was excellent. The choice of dishes and drinks were very good. The atmosphere felt relaxed. t's a lovely place to go for a relaxing meal, solo or with friends.

Some of the best sushi I’ve ever had in my life vs many cities in the US. Great place to share sushi while on vacation with family. The nigiri changed my life and I had to order more. Wait staff was incredible and so attentive.

The Karedon and Kaimeshi were extremely salty. Other dishes were ok. The service we received was also quite bad unfortunately - despite having many servers around and not being a busy time, we can’t seem to get water refilled and plates removed/replaced. Also the welcome chanting from the kitchen when guests enter the restaurant is kind of disturbing and startling. Overall our worst dining experience in Lima :(

We enjoyed a wonderful meal at Shizen. I am vegan and was offered delicious and creative choices in keeping with the Japanese Peruvian fusion that makes Shizen so special. My favorite was the avocado ceviche with a zarandaja purée.

It was soooo good! Wish they had a better sake selection and that it was presented to us from the start. The dishes were amazing and beautiful. The fish extremely fresh.

Shizen was a spectacular meal with top tier Nikkei. We ordered the Sashimi with salmon and Chita, along with Tartar Maki and nigiri. Our server, Dey, was so helpful with accommodating gluten free options! Shizen is celiac friendly so it’s a must visit when you’re in Lima!

Although the service was great, I found it expensive for the taste and quality of the food. I would not speak bad of the restaurant but I won't recommend it.

Rather good sushi, some of it creative, however, service and the ambiance just don't match the food and are really lacking.

Loved the food, everything was tasty and flavours were well executed! However, be aware that the prices are very high. Almost $100 Canadian dollars for a drink each and 3 medium sized dishes. Service was below average for an expensive restaurant. We ordered a drink and after 10 minutes we had to order again only to be told it had run out. We waited another 15 minutes for our drinks for total of almost half hour to get our first beverage. If the price was lower and service was better I would give 5 stars. Unfortunately I deducted a star for each of these major flaws.

Reviews are right. Food is decent but service is HORRIBLE. I had to ask four times just to get some water and it only got worse from there. They only have one guy making the sushi so it takes forever. I really wanted to like it but cannot recommend

Food is just ok. It is not really good. Overpriced and terribly slow to bring whatever you order. Drinks are even more overpriced. For what you pay here you can get better and tastier japanese food in othrlee venues. Avoid it.

Sashimi was ok, but the acevichado was worst than other nikkeis in Lime. The are not good beer options in the menu and they don't have what is in the menu neither.

Came on a Saturday night without reservations and was seated at the bar. Please make sure to have a reservation as they tend to get booked and busy. We had the most amazing dinner. All of the sushi was fresh and flavorful. There wasn’t a dish we didn’t enjoy. So much that we got seconds of each. It is well priced with the quality you are getting. The drinks were also very unique and they come with great presentation. Our server was busy but still attentive. Just wished we had more time to eat and take picture of the food but we were to engulfed in how good the food was!

I had three dishes and a very unique matcha sake cocktail. My favorite one is the scallop tiradito! The main course (grilled octopus in cheesy truffle sauce) was too heavy to my liking. But overall it’s a wonderful nikkei experience

First stop in Lima had to be Nikkei, that perfect Peruvian-Japanese fusion everyone kept recommending. We went to Osaka, and the menu was full of temptations. (I officially gave ceviche a break today after eating it basically every meal in Peru 😂). The fish? Super fresh. The grilled meat? Perfect. The ramen? A little off, but hey, it’s not a ramen shop so I’ll forgive them. Dessert was solid too. But the real MVP? A wild twist on paella that swaps rice for ramen noodles. Absolute genius. 🤯👏

This is one of the best restaurants in Lima and the best Japanese-Peruvian (Nikkei) i Lima I know. Everything from the service, presentation to food, drinks and dessert was excellent. The ballanced combination of tastes with accent on great quality and innovative methods keeps you without the breath. It is price-y and posh, but that's exactly for concrete audience that expects certain level and it is willing to pay for it. Reservation is highly recommended. 5 out of 5.

Osaka is a place that makes a strong first impression. It’s visually impressive—definitely the spot you pick when you want a meal to feel like a real occasion. The food here is a mixed bag, but the peaks are seriously high. We tried the Tumbo Shrimp, which was fine, no complaints there, but the real showstoppers were the cold appetizers. The Ceviches and Tiraditos were truly exceptional—easily the highlight of the menu. And if you’re a sushi person, you have to hit the Inca Sushi; it was ridiculously good. Beyond the food, they nail the drinks. I had the Negroni, and the presentation was super theatrical; they really put on a show. Crucially, the drink itself was perfectly crafted—not just for looks. I was also pleasantly surprised by how many good vegetarian options they offered; my wife was genuinely pleased, which isn't always the case. Overall, it’s a solid choice for a night out. The ambiance and the standout dishes—like those ceviches and the Inca roll—make it a great place to gather with friends or celebrate.

Loved the food but service was pretty sub par. The people sitting around me and I all had to wait ages for waiters to pay attention to us. That being said, the Kani tacos were to die for. The makimono was good but didn’t blow me away. Didn’t have a drink but the cocktail menu was very enticing as well. Wish I could’ve tried more of both the food and the drink menu! Paid $25 so it was overall so worth it.

Went there last night to celebrate my last night in peru and my partners birthday. It was easily the best meal we had in the country and I wish we discovered it sooner!! The service was spectacular, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was great. We tried several different dishes to share, some sake, and a cocktail each. I had the citrus cocktail (i can't remember the exact name) and recommend that.

Joseph was our waiter, from the moment he greeted us, to the moment we ended our meal, he was not only super informative and helpful but also expressed a genuine interest in getting to know about our travels across Peru. A very pleasant person and exceptionally good at his job. His recommendations and insights demonstrate his desire to do the best job that he can possibly do. The food itself, was delicious, the cocktails were amazing as well and the atmosphere was nice and chilled. Would definitely return for a proper Peruvian - Japanese experience!

Absolutely incredible food - especially for the price! I went back to Poke 51 two days in a row and enjoyed best poke bowl, salmon and sushi dishes I have ever had! (and I have had a lot!). Big shout out to Juan and Josef for the amazing service and care when explaining the menu. Josef in particular was so great at giving advice, offering alternative side dishes and explaining the flavours and fusions in depth.

The food was incredible — it was truly a gastronomic adventure! Joseph was great and his recommendations (the salmon tataki and the shiromi roll) were fantastic. The best sushi I’ve ever had!

First time trying ceviche, and the mixed plate was delicious! The rice, chicharron, and ceviche combo was so good, and and a great value for the large portions.

As seen on Netflix’s Street Food Latin America, Al Toke Pez was high on my must-eat list the moment we landed in Lima. I told our friends it was non-negotiable, and they happily followed my cravings. After days of pretty bland meals, that first bite of fresh, tangy ceviche was pure heaven. The spot is tiny and the menu is short, but their signature mixed plate is a winner—fried rice, crispy seafood, and ceviche all on one plate. Add their fiery chili sauce (careful, it’s spicy), and it’s the perfect combo of flavor, crunch, and zing. Delicious, satisfying, and totally budget-friendly. Netflix did not lie. 😋✨

As many reviewers suggest, it's best to come before they open and be the first to enter. There are only 9 seats. We were there 15 minutes early and were the first seated. It's small but comfortable. The staff is very efficient and keep everything moving. The food was well prepared and flavorful. We both had the Combinado for S 35 each and my wife had a chicha which is S 3. We both left very full. It's a good value for what you pay. And it's nice to support a small business.

The seafood is fresh and tasty, but the menu is quite limited. We asked for lemmon juice to season our plate and they initially refused, but yielded upon second request. Also they do not offer ice for soft drinks. The place is small and seating is tight.

Absolutely brilliant place. Everything was cooked to perfection, using the best ingredients. Highlights were the scallop and truffle nigiri and the guanciale udon. Highly recommended. Staff was nice and atmosphere was great. The better part of the restaurant is open space so prepare with warmer clothes if needed.

Best place in Lima! I was on a business trip and went alone to Tomo. The staff was really helpful with the menu and recommended me the omakase experience. It was another level, 7 plates of amazing food, full of flavor and fresh ingredients. The chef makes the omakase experience tailored to each people asking what I like and didn’t. I fully recommend

Amazing. Couldn’t be happier with our service. They were always attentive with an ear to ear smile. They didn’t hesitate to make us feel as comfortable as possible while trying new cuisine. If you love seafood this is the place for you!!!

One of the best sushi experiences I’ve ever had! The portions are intentionally small, in true Japanese style, allowing you to sample multiple options. We followed the recommendations of a friendly waitress and ended up trying a variety of dishes. The Tomo and Bachi were definite highlights. Bill came out at ~£100 for two people and was 1000% worth it.

Perfection is difficult it requires discipline, passion and a love of what you do. Every bite better than the last. From the front door to the goodbye we felt cared for at every level. Well done…

Really amazing! We did the omakase and every dish was distinctive, complex and layered. There was an interesting mix of citrus forward ones (my favorite) with some with more warmth, fattiness and umami. Save room for the chocolate tart! Our server, Luis Herrera, was really amazing and his explanations made it all the better. Thank you for such an amazing meal and experience

Delicious food, mild food poisoning. Probably a case of Anisakis. Party of 7, 6 of us were affected. We ate late in the afternoon, they said the kitchen was closing so place last orders, meaning the fish had been sitting there since the start of lunch maybe, so I suggest going early in the day as opposed to later after opening.

Literally 5 minutes walking distance from my office and my go to place for sushi at least once a week for lunch. The staff is courteous and the food is very good. The place itself is a bit small compared to other Edo's but it has it's charm.

The location is a bit out of the city center, but it’s worth it for the experience. In the same area we found other small nikkei reetaurants. Food was good, even if I had better tempura to be honest. Wow wow wow I came here with our family and we love it!! The food recommendation was excelent. We order the combo and then the appetizers were also great!! Highly recommend it. The staff was really helpful in helping me choose the best plates.

I came in with fairly low expectations, especially after a disappointing experience at a fancier sushi spot like Matsuei — but I was very pleasantly surprised. The traditional sushi offerings (nigiri and sashimi) were superb: the rice was perfectly cooked and seasoned, the fish was fresh, and the portions and prices were more than reasonable. They also provide an oshibori (a moist towel to clean your hands), which was a thoughtful nod to traditional sushi etiquette — though it would’ve been even nicer if it were warm. Service was friendly and down-to-earth, without any of the snobbery you sometimes encounter at upscale sushi places. I also tried the seafood hot plate, which was decent but not especially memorable. Stick to the sushi — you won’t be disappointed.

It might seem this is a conflicting review. However, it's not because the service can be good, but the food not necessarily great. This is especially the case with the sushi. The makis have too much rice and too compacted. They also use too much cream cheese which does not make sense (in my humble opinion). Sushi should not have cream cheese. I can accept that one item can be the traditional Philadelphia roll, which is an USA food, not a Japanese. The heaviness of cream cheese diminishes and undermine the delicate flavors of the restaurant if the ingredients. The ambiance is beautiful with a clear japanese touch, and the personnel were courteous and attentive. Very crowded restaurant.

The pizza sushi is amazing!!! Truly! First time trying raw sushi and it was so fresh. Highly recommend. No reservation required. Do not get the string fried rice-not pictured. It was sweet and tasted like Spanish rice-disappointing being that it was an Asian restaurant.

The food was outstanding, but the overall service was superior above anything I've had in Lima so far (14 days). As soon as they opened, they brought me in and immediately seated me. The waiter brought me an English menu without me even asking. The waiter was also extremely attentive and was constantly scanning his tables from a distance. First restaurant we tried after landing in Lima. The flavors were hard to describe — it wasn’t Japanese, but more of a fusion between Peruvian and Chinese cuisine, leaning toward a sweeter taste. Beautiful restaurant but unfortunately was not satisfied with my omakase. Wife was not impressed with her ceviche and my wasabi cocktail was very strange, literally tasted like they only put pre-made wasabi in my drink and mixed it. Prices almost the same as USA but the only thing good were nigiris, and I only got 4. For a nikkei experience, in my opinion it didn't deliver and it was far from the nikkei food I had on my previous trips to Lima. More like 2.5 stars but service was great and perhaps other dishes were better. Extremely expensive for what I got.

Very cool vibe. Low key. Full disclosure - this is Perú sushi vs American. You get massive amounts of ginger, No wasabi but you get an amazing garlic and fish sauce. Some things come cooked vs raw. Lots of rolls w tempura ingredients. English menus available. Spicy tuna roll was excellent. Everything was FRESH. Excellent service. Food arrived promptly. Waiter was attentive but didn’t rush us at all. Definitely a do over!

Was lucky enough to get admission to a saki tasting event that was paired with incredible sushi and other small bites. Intoxicating in many ways. Service was top notch, food was incredible, and atmosphere was in an upstairs’ private space. Top sushi chef Hajime is one of the best in Lima, so a highly recommended place for Nikkei while in Lima!

We came here hoping for a satisfying meal, but overall, the experience was underwhelming. The ramen was decent—nothing extraordinary, nothing that would make me come back specifically for it. In fact, I can get the same level of satisfaction from any ramen spot in Barranco for the same price. So, coming here again just wouldn’t make sense. The biggest disappointment was the salmon rolls. The makis were shockingly small, to the point where it felt almost ridiculous given the price. We even looked at other people’s orders to see if it was just the salmon makis that were this tiny, and, unfortunately, that seemed to be the case. The portion size was completely unjustifiable, especially when priced the same as other, more generous options. In the end, we were very hungry, we tried it, and we won’t be coming back. There’s nothing about this place that stands out or makes it worth a second visit. The food isn’t bad, but it’s just not special. The interior, on the other hand, is over-the-top—clearly designed to please Instagram lovers rather than people looking for a great dining experience.

I came back after several years, and if you are in San Borja, it is a recommended place for having some Japanese food. The decoration is really good, all the walls are full of posters (some of them with illumination) and figures. The last time I found that also the places were rearranged in such a way that you can have some privacy by some separating walls. We ordered ramen and some drinks, and everything was very tasty. The service was also good and quite fast.

Good Japanese food with a twist, been there before and I believe the service has lowered a little, it was good before but I received a poor service this time. I enjoyed de food, though. We had gyozas and salmon tartare makis as appetizers and then we ordered a ramen, Naruto chicken and Butadon. Everything was delicious. Hopefully the service gets back to what it was before.

I've tried to get into Naruto several times but always left because the line was so long. Due to the hype of this place, I was always super excited to try it so I took my wife for Valentines day. First and foremost, special thanks to Bianca, the receptionist who helped me get on the list for a table. She spoke English and it made the process so much easier for me. As for the restaurant, the anime themed decor and ambiance was super nice. Really enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant. The service was less than spectacular. I tried asking our waiter for different recommendations because I wanted to try a variety of items on the menu but he was not very helpful and honestly just made us uncomfortable asking questions. The food had great presentation but the taste was alright. I tried 2 different types of sushi but neither was good nor authentic. I did enjoy the ramen and chicken teriyaki. To add to the disappointment, all the ramen had pork in it. I don't eat pork and tried to substitute it for beef or chicken but tofu was the only alternative. Another let down was they didn't have pots of tea. Almost all decent Asian restaurants usually serve tea by the pot but here, it was by the cup. This place has great potential but just wasn't quite there for me. For how busy this place is, it seems like hype over quality. Between the poor service and lack of authenticity in the food taste, I give this place 3 stars. For a Japanese restaurant in Peru, it's pretty good but for a Japanese restaurant in general, it's okay. It's worth checking out but I wouldn't wait 2 hours to eat here.

My boyfriend had the leche de tigre and arroz de mariscos and they were amazing. It was a really big restaurant and it was packed so it's clearly very popular. I'm vegetarian and they did not have anything on the menu but they were able to make me maki with just avocado in it and it was really good.

BEST SEAFOOD EVER! Went a couple times to this place and loved it! The food is just amazing, the ceviche is the freshest that you would ever eat. They also do Peruvian food, but this is mainly a seafood place, so other dishes are not that good. The Conchitas a la Parmesana are just the best! Highly recommended if what you are looking is a great seafood experience for reasonable prices. Fresh and tasty!

Very well known restaurant in Lima. Some days better book in advance to avoid disappointment. The owners are Japanese descendant so the food is mostly fish based and is a delicious fusion of Peruvian and Japanese (Nikkey), cuisines with their own personal touch. Food is great and service too. It's only too noisy when busy. If you are a foreigner I highly advise you to order bottled drinks and not fresh ready made one, here at Otani like everywhere else in Peru ', unfortunately our tummies are too delicate and sensible for Peruvian water, especially the water of Lima.

A truly "Hole in the wall" Peruvian food is a mixture of indigenous flavors fushioned with Asian, African and European flavors. Otani is a representation of Peruvian and Japanese mix. We were a party of 4 and we ordered Crab Causa, Sea food and rice (Paella seafood like), Fry fish Chorrillana Style and Choritos (mussels) a la chalaca. We shared our dishes and everything was EXTREMELY GOOD, staff was fast and friendly prices were just right. We'll be back for some more dishes before we depart Lima.

Surprisingly good. Is very affordable and also really tasty, I saw tables ordering more food as they eat. The place is kind of small but cozy, If you don't want to end up smelling like food, you might want to sit near to the entrance.

I'm always pleasantly surprised by the this place. I've been here twice and tried a spicy ramen and non spicy dish and both were amazing! Staff is welcoming and the beer selection went well with each dish.

I do not recommend coming to this location on a weekday during the day. The options they have available (only in this location) are minimal (they didn’t have any of the fresh fish dishes available the 3 times I have visited) and the servers don’t seem to want to attend you. Service is really slow. Food lacks flavor.

This restaurant is staffed entirely with locals. Impressive! I like how they even have Japanese tv channels and music that nobody in the restaurant would understand, but they try. Noodles are fresh and not over cooked. Flavor is very good too but not Japanese quality. I find it very hard to believe this is the best Japanese place in Lima, but I would come back again.

Super disappointing. Food was expensive but did not taste good. I got the ramen batayaki with medium cooked tenderloin and it came well done. It was also quite oily and salty. My friend got the smoked ramen and it was so salty. We asked for it to be remade but it was still salty. So we had to add water. If you go, the most decent thing are the sushi and drinks. This might be the wrong place to add this review since they have not added their new airport location, but I happened to leave Peru on their opening day, and had a very good experience trying this spot! Their menu is limited and as of right now, they are not doing any modifications! All that said, the noodles were absolutely amazing!!!

I love pad Thai, this one was good. I remembered it better. It’s a popular restaurant, so it’s not quiet. Between the music and the talk… The ice tea was nice, but the bubbles were not well done. The salmon poke bowl was really nice and udon noodles had a nice sauce.

There are about 4 vegan dishes available on the menu and many vegetarian options. The staff are very good about checking ingredients and being aware of food allergies. We’ve been here a few times and the food is always super delicious. The staff are friendly. The atmosphere is a little noisy, still you can carry a conversation. The plates are a little small for the price, but it maybe the non-vegan plates are bigger. Still I’m usually hungry if I don’t order more than an entree.

My husband and I spent our 10 year wedding anniversary at Nagoya. It was absolutely amazing. The staff provided excellent customer service. Everyone went above and beyond to make our experience amazing. The sushi was outstanding. Some of the best sushi I’ve ever had. If you’re in Lima, you must try Nagoya. It’s the BEST!

I am at this location every time i visit Lima, Peru. I love it, and i will continue to enjoy it, the service is perfect, the food is always fresh and amazing. I really appreciate going to a restaurant and getting the kind of service i have received at this Hanzo. Have definitely recommended it to anyone that visits Lima and is in the mood for some sushi. A tad pricey though.....

Hanzo is the most delicious authentic Japanese style sushi restaurant I've been to in Lima (I've been to quite a few sushi restaurants in Lima). I was very happy with the quality of the food here. A little more expensive than average but that should be expected considering the quality.

Great atmosphere. Food did not convince me. Had take away sushi and duck-dumplings. The dumplings were ready long before the Sushi and therefore cold when i arrived home & sticking to their container. Even though the taste of the dumplings was good, i bit on something hard whilst eating the second dumpling. Upon close inspection, i am fairly certain i had found a bone (finding marrow upon braking the little "stick") as a result, losing appetite for the other ones. I am a bit shocked by such a slip up, as i can not imagine it being part of the official ingredients. While not being a big fan of the makoto rolls, it may come down to taste & disliking cooked fish in sushi. Rest was good, so i decided not to go lower than 3 stars. Won't be coming back, though.

This sushi restaurant is well known for their ‘all you can eat’ promotions. They've more than 20 kinds of maki rolls (though not all of them were available when I went) and the ones that I tried were delicious. On the other hand, the attention wasn't as good as I expected. It took some time to get me noticed by the waiter and he was not as friendly as I've seen in other sushi restaurants.

Big spacious place, a reasonably priced all-you-can-eat that includes juice, soda, water or beer as refreshments and a large selection of makis with a sizeable vegetarian spread. The only downside is how out of the way it is from the main city avenues, as I prefer public transportation to get around. But, besides that I think it's a great place to go with a group of friends.

2nd and last time here. There was no salmon, and no beverage option (ordered water). It was a Saturday so it's odd that they don't have fish. Poor service, changed my order, and the server forgot 2 orders of makis. More than 1 hour later my food is still missing. And there's an ant with my order. Cool.

I don't think there's really that much choice here. It's called Sushi POP, but what happened to all the sushi? There are only like 3 options for traditional nigiri.

We ordered the combination of 8 maki flavours and really enjoyed our experience! Different flavours than you might get at a traditional sushi place but for us that’s what made it so much better. For anyone unsure about the one with beef, try it! It was delicious! Even though we speak a little bit of Spanish they went out of their way and had an English menu and served us in English. Inside is nicely decorated as well!

Mitsuharu Tsumura is better known because of Maido, but this is its sister creation. Japanese sushi with peruvian tones, in the middle of Miraflores, makes this place a really great escape for whenever fish -or japanese food- is all you have on your mind. Decorated with popping colors, but intimately lit table per table, this is a perfect place not only to have food, but also to share a couple of drinks from their refreshing and well assorted bar. It's also convenient coming in groups, since there's combos that are for the ones who want to try most of the menu.

Food was fine, the ambiance is a bit off(loud pop music), and the service was confusing. I ordered two things. It took forever and finally the server brought out one plate which was not what i ordered. Then came to find out they hadnt put the original order in. I wont be back.

We tried the poke bowl with tuna (PEN25) which was very good and the pisco sour both with lemon and passion fruit which was maybe one of the best we had so far in Peru. The best really was meeting José, who is a very captivating host for the house.

The food is delicious, there is no complain, it got honest price, and excellent location. What bothered me was the smell of the place, and they should consider doing some renovation, since it’s looking a bit beat up. If you don’t mind that, good place to go.

Shared a bunch of rolls with a group of 6 friends and it was pretty good. I always like when they food comes out displayed on a big boat. The frozen lemonade was just ok because it was mostly ice.

God I love Sushi, and Magma did it right! I got 2 standard rolls and 1 special roll. All fairly priced for the great taste and sexy atmosphere they provide. It's in such a great location of Mira Flores which we could walk to in less than 4 minutes. My girlfriend got the Poke Bowl and has been back 3 times since to handle that craving. Thank you Magma!

Smallest nigiri I have ever had, yet much more expensive than Edo. The ramen was kinda different to normal ramen. It was more like bacon instead of ramen-style pork.

Nice place to eat all you can eat sushi. If you have a large stomach you can give them a run for their money. The individual sushi rolls are cut thinner so that's kind of a clever way to balance the all you can eat aspect.

All you can eat (makis/rolls) everyday Monday to Sunday. The price for all you can eat is around 45 soles on weekdays and 55 on weekends. High quality and includes some beverage. They also have a regular menu. Service is excellent. There is valet parking and an exclusive garage. If you go on large groups, plan ahead and make a reservation.

I went to this place over 3 years ago several times during the pandemic and years before and it was under different ownership and actually I preferred it more then. It's a personal preference I suppose I just like the layout more before. The sashimi for example, if you order two different kinds like I did (tuna and salmon) they came on the same board here separately like two different entrees and the pieces are much bigger they could be cut either for the individual or to share. Send many use chopsticks you need to order a knife to cut it. The raw fish came with one that was not real cold and the other one came out like it just been frozen. The inconsistencies were a turn-off for me. Now the positives I ordered one of the few higher protein. Low carbohydrate dishes without added sugar with mixed vegetables and pieces of white fish cut into it. I recalled something very similar under the prior owners and I really liked it! It was an ample portion and I ended up taking half of it home which I enjoyed that evening. Service was friendly but the soy sauce was forgotten and there never seems to be enough napkins 😂. Everything was amazing. Terrific and accommodating staff. Everyone is very nice. The menu is outstanding. I ordered miso soup with pork and it was the best soup I’ve had in a long time.

Extraordinary gyozas 🥟😍 The most delicious gyozas I had in Lima. So delicious that we had to order a second round. The sushi rolls 🍣 were great, and I loved their California poke. Lemonade was good. I highly recommend this place.

Place is nice. We asked for Ebi Tempura, Soba y Tokotsu Ramen. Ebi Tempura and Soba were really nice (7/10) But Tonkutsu Ramen was not hot and when we asked why it is like this, they take the plate and give it back same plate after 2 minutes. So just they put to the microwave!!!!! :( This not the way to offer this type of Ramen.

The combo of one noodle soup (ramen, soba or udon) + 6 rolls of Florida rolls (avocado + salmon) costs S. 29 is a very good deal, available all day. I tried three types of noodles and like Udon with the prawn tempura the most. Recommended for who has a crave for an Asian noodle soup.

Food was pretty bland. A meat dish we ordered was very chewy and nothing like the real Japanese version. No ability to make the ramen spicy. For the price, this is NOT worth it.

For consistency this is an excellent choice for sushi. The location at Jockey Plaza additionally has grills so you can enjoy the show.

Since our home town of Trujillo does not have a Thai restaurant and we love Thai food we ate lunch there four times. We liked the Thai food very much. We skipped the sushi choices.

Wow. Coming from New York, it takes a lot to impress us, but Roger's food and his staff's attention to detail are world class. Our only regret is that we don't have time to visit his other two restaurants before the end of our trip. Our tuna appetizer was melt-in-your-mouth delicate and delicious. The Japanese BBQ is not to be missed. But save room for dessert because the chocolate maki is crazy good and very rich. Perfectly paired with Hierba Luisa ice cream—or maybe it was sorbet. Regardless, the experience was an absolute dream.

Great Japanese and Thai food. Has a decent selection of choices. Been here a few times and tried both Japanese and Thai. Had the Mixto today and it was good.

I've been to this restaurant 3-4 times, I order something different every time and I'm always pleasantly surprised. I've never had a bad dish at this restaurant. I devour everything they bring me. Some of the things I've ordered are: ebi sashimi, chicken teriyaki, yakiniku, yakitori, gyoza, and others. Everything was great; my only complaint is that the gyoza was a little too doughy. Other than that, the food has been perfect. As for the service, it's friendly but slow. It's worth the wait though!

Excellent place to have a good quality lunch or dinner, I strongly recommend this place. We came from Miami exclusively to visit them. We saw the site on Instagram. And from that moment, my wife and I planned to visit again our country and experience the excellent service, food and the personalized service from the owner. It’s a lovely place to visit . If you are going to visit Lima-Peru, this is the place “ must do”, I recommend it to everyone.

Very modern interior, friendly waiters, and great food. Ordered a mix of hot and cold dishes, everything was fresh and tasty. Pricing is good, not very expensive for a sushi bar.

The food is actually good but the service was not great. Dishes took about 45 minutes to get and my meal came 30 minutes before my girlfriend's sushi roll. This was not acceptable. They said the delay was due to having to fill a big take out order; there really couldnt be any other excuse since the restaurant was half empty. Overall i think they could have managed resources much better.

We were looking for something new and looked for sushi in maps. Nice place, great service. Food was delicious! We got 50% discount with Club Scotiabank (100 soles max.). What else you can ask? Will came again for sure and recommend it.

Food was good. Service was very slow, even when there were only 3 other tables with customers. Received all my food before my drink arrived.

The first time going after they remodeled the store, the atmosphere changed a lot, and it was much brighter than before. The food was still amazing even though it was on the expensive side, but for a true Japanese dish, it is definitely worth the money. The only downside is the service. We were only 2 tables of clients at that moment, but the waitress was ignoring us and only doing small talk to the other table. It took approximately 15 minutes of us trying to get her attention before another worker came to give us the menu and take our orders.

Ordered the sashimi sushi and maki package for 3 people. Michael was our server and did a great job, customized our order and was great.

Here they serve genuine Japanese food. It's so Japanese that they even have the plastic models on display at the entrance, and they bring you oshibori when you sit down. And considering the high quality, this place is not that pricey.

The place is nice, waiters are nice, but the food is gross. Sushi rice was flooded with some kind of oil and the composition of spices made the sushi feel heavy. I had to buy a cola to help my stomach digest it.

This is a funny place because all of their dishes are "special". While it is nice to have variety and unconventional choices, I still want at least some standard fare. Also some of the sushi is extravagant just for the sake of being different, and I found it less appealing. Service great, atmosphere great, price fair for the going. Won't be going there again.

Everything was very fresh, especially the uni, so sweet and creamy. The sushi rolls had some really unique combinations. I wasn’t thrilled by the dessert, though. What I didn’t appreciate is that they didn’t have a lot of the fish that was on the menu.

Good Peruvian-Japannese option, not very expensive, fast service, and the food is quite good. Maki's include complex combinations as you appreciate in the pics below.

Very good place the only thing they don't have that say professionalism like here in America, so let me tell you, the food was good it was a lot that price was like what the round 450 local currency around $150, USD, I always tip over 25%, the people were nice but times were good, but our server keeps on disappearing every 3 sec, so it's pretty bad when I was waiting for so long for a couple dishes, some meals took forever to come, drinks took a while to, the guy that was supposed to let's say take the payment was not my server, like if you have to go to high school or a professional institution just to take payments, was the weirdest stuff in the world it was a little bit frustrating because for some reason here in Peru people like the server so the bartenders don't like to hold conversations, I came with my family for crying out loud it wasn't like intimidating we were like fairy chill and relax, that's one of my cousins has a very high position in government, doesn't mean that you have to be intimidated mostly when I'm paying the bill, I'm an American, you know how we is here in the south, and some things just really disappointed me, that is okay I will come back, a hundred percent the only thing is that next year I'm going to be coming back with a lot of people way too many I think and they're not flexible at say like that, for example they only can take for like average meal for five or four people but they don't know how to calculate a y wanted for 10 or 11 people are kids it's just a little bit frustrating that they cannot understand that when one person is pay, and the other thing is at kids barely eat I'm okay paying for the kids but still it's just ridiculous that they don't how to split that. Or take reservations it's just like science them, I never know if my server got the tips, I'm very good like 20 bucks maybe more. I'm pretty bad with this local currency. Because I have to tip the hibachi guy as well, so hopefully next year is going to be better, I can give them a whole five star.

This is absolutely the best sushi in Lima. It is fresh and authentic. The service was excellent and I'm so excited to have found this restaurant.

Used to eat here 35 years ago and it was expensive but very good, now it is totally gone downhill. Used to be greeted by Japanese sushi chefs when you arrive , now the have some grumpy looking local that just looks at you when you come in, no more hot towel to clean your hands , the excuse is oh we stopped doing that during the pandemic (joke). Half of the things on the menu were not available like UNI, scallops , clam, not even squid. The tuna was dark almost black not fresh and the sashimi cuts were tiny and cut like for a stir fry. Ordered Ikura nigiris top $$ and they were tiny and had so little roe in them you could see the rice. Ordered a Kani roll and they might as well call it a avocado roll as I had hard time finding the crab in it. Ordered eel nigiris and the eel was stone cold right out of the fridge and didn't even have taré painted on it. The bill was almost 500 soles for two people and to drink we only had two coca-cola's. Oh yeah forgot I ordered a miso soup and it was just under 7 dollars ?? They're way over rated here and this once great restaurant is now only a skeleton of it's former self.

The ramen was pretty below average, and the sushi nigiri prices were crazy. But it was nice to have some tamago yaki hosomaki.

I ordered miso ramen & yutofu at here,be honesty,this is really the worst Ramen I ever had in my life ...actually,it's fake Ramen,either the noodle and soup they were both bad,noodle was too soft and there dusty taste in the soup😖and the yutofu was not yutofu it's just tofu!! I'm from Asian so maybe my standards are high,but 30 sol for this meal I felt my money was going to water,so much unworthy. If you are a tourist like me ,I'd suggest go find another small nice Peruvian resturant,don't bother to try food here with over price .

A genuine Japanese gem in Lima

The menu was not good. They need to add flavor to their dishes.

This is a Japanese restaurant in the Japanese cultural centre as there is a big Japanese community in Peru. Don't make the mistake of going for quantity over quality.. Our group of four chose a Pack (i.e. a set menu) and not everything on it was brilliant. I’d recommend the makis and some gyozas as I personally don't like a meal that is purely cold. I wouldn’t bother with the seafood rice as it’s basically a glorified chaufa (Chinese fried rice). If you are feeling particularly patriotic you can also opt for some Peruvian fusion dishes such as sushi a la huacaina.

You can enjoy oriental foods with reasonable price. Soup is always served with main manu.

Don't order their "barra libre" because it's a rude scam and waste of food. They bring you 20 rolls, then another 20 rolls. I couldn't eat 40 so I left 10 and they give you penalty 2 soles for 1 roll hahahaha. Scam.

Food was OK. Service terrible with long waits for ordering. Note that if you choose the "All You Can Eat" option for 45 Soles, they will charge you extra if you don't finish everything. The staff likes to explain this with a lot of drama. No thanks, not returning.

Makis… is sushi but is infused with Peruvian ingredients, very flavorful and delicious. Soy infused snails were really good.

The waiter gave me a great suggestion. They were very flexible and switched out a few options on my plate for others. Very peaceful. The sushi was soo good!

It has been hard for me to find Japanese sushi and sashimi. Most of the sushi restaurants in Peru are a fusion (nikei), with overly sweet eel sauces and alike. Makoto remains true to the Japanese sushi, and offers if you want to try, a few fusion pieces. The prices are moderate for peruvian standard, but if you are in the mood for sushi (makis), I recommend to try Makoto over Edo or Mr. Sushi.

Good spot, I’ll maybe come back for a lunch special during the week to try their gyoza. The spicy Pirikara Ramen was good, little light on meat, but it was good. The karage came out as I was finishing my ramen, but it was VERY hot & the tartar sauce & lime went well with it. I dropped 2 pieces of my karage in the remaining ramen broth, added some lime to it & that was quite good.
