The Sapporo Beer Museum, located in a former factory, offers free admission and features exhibits, tours, and paid tastings. Visitors of all ages can enjoy a tour of the museum to learn about the history of beer in Japan and the beer-making process. The highlight of the tour is a half-hour tasting session with an array of beers available. While sake may seem like a more traditional Japanese drink, experiencing the birth of Hokkaido's famous beer at this museum is also worthwhile.
I loved visiting the Sapporo Beer Museum. Learned a lot about the brand’s history, and the tasting room was a highlight—the beer was perfectly chilled and tasted amazing. A must-visit for beer lovers! (The museum was under exterior restoration but the operations inside were at 100%). At the end, you should enjoy the grilled lamb Genghis Khan at the Sapporo Garden restaurant. They have All You Can Eat options at a very reasonable price.

Overall a pretty good facility, would recommend. Free tour available but if you want the premium tour it’s 1,000¥ or so. Make sure you buy premium tour tickets in advance as they get sold out quickly. Facility is large and modern with a good collection of historical pieces. Tour is well laid out, and flows from start to finish. There is a beer tasting hall at the end with an exclusive Sapporo Beer Museum brew only available at this location and not sold anywhere else. Shop is also available for souvenirs. Overall, if you have some time I recommend checking out the Beer Museum. The atmosphere and surrounding area is nice and it’s a nice activity to eat up a couple hours.
Jay O — Google review
If you are visiting Sapporo, the Sapporo Beer Museum is definitely worth a stop. It is not only a place to drink beer, but also a spot where you can experience the history, culture, and spirit of Hokkaidō. 🏛 Atmosphere & History The museum is inside a red-brick building from 1890, originally part of a sugar factory. The design is very nostalgic, industrial, and full of Meiji-era character. Just standing outside for photos feels like stepping back in time. Inside, the displays guide you through the story of how Sapporo Beer started in 1876 with German brewing techniques, and how it became one of the most iconic Japanese beer brands. 🖼 Exhibitions The exhibition area is well organized: • Old brewing machines, posters, and bottles give you a sense of history. • Models and videos explain the brewing process in a simple way. • You can learn about the famous “Star” logo, symbolizing the pioneers of Hokkaidō. Most panels are in Japanese, but many parts also have English explanations, which makes it friendly for international visitors. 🍺 Beer Tasting The highlight is of course the Beer Tasting Hall. Here you can order a 3-glass tasting set for around ¥800, which includes: • Sapporo Black Label – smooth and classic. • Sapporo Classic – only available in Hokkaidō. • Kaitakushi Beer – a revival of the original 19th-century recipe. The atmosphere is casual, and even if you are not a big drinker, just trying a small glass gives you the authentic Sapporo experience. 🍴 Food & Beer Garden Right next to the museum is the Sapporo Beer Garden, famous for Genghis Khan (ジンギスカン), the Hokkaidō-style grilled lamb. The pairing of juicy lamb and fresh draft beer is something you really shouldn’t miss. 📍 Access & Practical Info • About 15–20 minutes walk from Sapporo Station, or 10 minutes by bus. • The museum entrance is free, tasting is paid. • Best to visit in the afternoon or evening, then stay for dinner at the beer garden. ⸻ ✅ Overall impression: The Sapporo Beer Museum is more than a tourist spot – it is a mix of history, culture, architecture, and great beer. Whether you are a beer lover or just curious, it offers a very “only in Hokkaidō” experience.
Min M — Google review
The Sapporo Beer Museum, a former brewery now operating as a museum, offers paid tours and beer tasting. The tasting set, featuring three different beers, costs ¥1,200. Honestly, there's not much to see inside the museum itself. Most visitors just speed through the exhibits and head straight for the draft beer tasting hall to grab those essential Instagram-worthy shots. You can easily purchase your tasting tickets from a vending machine there. If you're a draft beer enthusiast, this place is a non-negotiable must-do for your Sapporo trip. However, for non-drinkers, it's pretty much a pointless tourist spot. The real value of visiting here is chugging that super cold draft beer. Highly recommended for all my fellow beer lovers! 🍺💯"

Let's start by saying there was apparently a lot of remodeling/construction going on. Over all it was very under whelming for what I was wanting and expecting. There is a small shop with some souvenirs but nothing like I thought there would be for such a famous place. When I finally found the beer hall/museum there was a quick free tour and then they let you buy a flight of 3 types for ¥1,200. Besides that the restaurant and other beer hall were closed.
Elliott A — Google review
Very interesting museum about brewing in Japan with exhibits dated back many years ago! And of course the tasting room is the most popular part of the museum with a lovely beer hall for people to taste different brews. Walking around the museum area is also very nice and if you feel like a bit of shopping there’s a mall right next door too.
Andrew P — Google review
Good place to visit as its beside Sapporo factory. The free tour starts at third floor, where you spiral down. Second floor had a few exhibits then you go down to the tasting room where you can sample beer. It gets a bit crowded here. Although its free, many people will also spend at the tasting room for the beer, at the shop (both inside and out) and at the bier garten.
Neil C — Google review
Pretty cool place to check out the history of the Sapporo beer company. Nice gift shop and you can also enjoy some of their beer after your tour. The staff are very nice, friendly, and inviting. 👍 Helps make the experience more enjoyable. 😊

Park
Odori Park, a spacious 1.5 km stretch located south of Sapporo Station, is more than just a park - it's a vibrant hub for events and leisure. Lined with trees and flowers that change with the seasons, the park hosts lively gatherings like the Yosakoi Soran Festival in summer and a charming winter festival illuminated by beautiful lights.
Odori Park is a must-visit destination in Sapporo, offering a perfect blend of nature, culture, and city life. Stretching over 1.5 kilometers, the park divides the city into north and south, serving as a refreshing green space amidst Sapporo's urban landscape. During my visit, I was struck by the park's meticulously landscaped gardens, vibrant flower displays, and iconic landmarks like the Sapporo TV Tower. The park is especially lively during events like the Sapporo Snow Festival and the summer beer garden, making it a dynamic spot for both locals and tourists. Whether you're strolling through the pathways, relaxing on a bench, or enjoying the seasonal festivals, Odori Park provides a peaceful yet vibrant atmosphere. Its central location, accessibility, and diverse attractions make it a highlight of any trip to Sapporo.
Neil A — Google review
Odori Park is the heart of Sapporo, stretching through the city center and changing its charm with every season. In spring, colorful tulips and cherry blossoms brighten the lawns, making it perfect for a stroll or picnic. Summer brings lively festivals, food stalls, and outdoor performances, filling the park with energy. Autumn paints the trees in shades of red and gold, turning the park into a calm, scenic walkway. In winter, Odori transforms into a snowy wonderland, hosting the world-famous Sapporo Snow Festival with giant ice and snow sculptures. Whether day or night, any time of year, Odori Park is a must-visit to enjoy Sapporo’s nature and culture right in the middle of the city.
Chalermchon S — Google review
A beautiful park with lots of shade trees, smaller gardens and numerous places to sit and enjoy by yourself or with friends. There are small coffee and snack stands close to the Sapporo tower. There’s a historic building at the other end - also a Five ring Olympic Ring by the rose garden. It has a rectangular layout that makes for a good leisurely stroll. It’s very accessible via subway or streetcar. It’s within walking distance of the main JR station, Susukino and Tanikokoji.
J. C — Google review
I believe this part is very well used throughout the year for the citizens of Sapporo and visitors! Every season this park have different faces that flower is booming and water fountain is flowing. Many people seating and relaxing on the bench throughout the park. When it comes to the winter season, this park becomes the art of ice and ice sculpture. It will be specially beautiful in the winter time with all LED light That makes the ice sculpture even more beautiful! I need to come back again in the winter to see the difference face of this beautiful park.

🌳 Odori Park – Sapporo’s Chillest Backyard 🌸 Smack in the center of Sapporo, Odori Park stretches over a dozen blocks and feels like the city just exhaled. It’s not your typical “big attraction,” but that’s kind of what makes it great. It’s where locals walk their dogs, kids chase pigeons, and travelers like us take a breath between ramen bowls and sightseeing stops. The park runs east to west, carving a green path right through downtown. Depending on when you visit, you might stumble into a full-blown festival, a beer garden, an ice sculpture competition, or… nothing at all—and somehow, that’s just as nice. In summer, it’s all fountains and flowerbeds; in winter, it’s a snow-covered wonderland. It’s not flashy, but it’s the kind of place that grounds you in the city. Sit on a bench, grab a soft serve or hot corn from a stall, and just watch life go by. 💡 Pro tip: Head to Sapporo TV Tower on the eastern end for a great aerial view of the park. And if you’re here during a festival—like the Snow Festival or the Summer Beer Garden—it goes from peaceful park to full-on party real fast.
The C — Google review
An absolutely lovely park that spans several blocks beyond the TV tower station. We were lucky enough to come during the autumn fall festival which offers extensive tents and vendors selling all types of food, drink and sweets! I'd love to come back and see this in the winter

🌳 Odori Park – Sapporo’s Green Artery of Culture and Calm Odori Park is more than just a stretch of greenery—it’s the beating heart of Sapporo, offering a refreshing blend of nature, culture, and seasonal charm right in the middle of the city. Spanning over 1.5 kilometers from the iconic Sapporo TV Tower to the west end near the Shiryokan (Former Court of Appeals), the park divides the city’s downtown into north and south, acting as both a scenic corridor and a lively gathering space. Each block of the park has its own character. You’ll find beautifully maintained flower beds, fountains, sculptures, and benches perfect for people-watching or enjoying a snack from nearby vendors. In spring and summer, locals and tourists alike lounge under trees or stroll past blooming tulips and roses. Autumn brings golden foliage, and winter transforms the park into a snowy wonderland—especially during the famous Sapporo Snow Festival, when massive ice sculptures and illuminations take over the space. Odori Park also hosts seasonal events like beer gardens, food festivals, and cultural performances, making it a dynamic space year-round. Despite its central location, it retains a peaceful vibe, offering a welcome pause from the urban bustle. Whether you're walking from Nishi 11-Chome to the TV Tower or just soaking in the scenery, Odori Park is a must-visit slice of Sapporo life.
Kiet L — Google review
Odori Park goes straight through the center of Sapporo. It's a great place to walk, try some street food, and experience many flowers. The flowers are especially pretty in spring and early summer when there's an annual lilac festival. The metro station stops near the center of the park and it's usually very busy.

Bodies of Water
Nestled just 10 kilometers from downtown Sapporo, Moerenuma Park is a stunning testament to the vision of renowned sculptor Isamu Noguchi. This innovative park transforms a former landfill into an artistic haven, seamlessly blending nature and creativity. Visitors can wander through its expansive grounds, which feature geometric playgrounds, serene fountains, and even a man-made beach known as Moere Beach. The park's centerpiece is the striking Glass Pyramid that captures Noguchi's unique aesthetic.
Nice place to spend 2-3 hours. A bit out of the way. Some of the park attractions were closed during my visit for example the water fountain probably due to seasonal change. The view from the top of the hill was breathtaking and the gentle wind swaying the tall grass was quite an experience.
Mohamad B — Google review
Visited this park in Sapporo during the summer, and I have to say I was amazed by its sheer scale. The place is incredibly vast, so I’d recommend setting aside at least a full day to explore—anything less would feel like a waste. The variety here is impressive: from the glass house to the pyramid, installations, and wide open spaces, there’s so much to see and experience. The glass house can get a bit hot in summer, but overall this park is truly a gem in Sapporo and well worth visiting, even in the warmer months.
AL — Google review
Amazing experience. Can rent bikes cheap and easily onsite. Some amazing places and stops to look at in this quite large park. Would be hard to walk to everything here without a bike. Two decent mountains to climb up as well for nice views!
Norman C — Google review
One of the best park in Sapporo. You can get the view of whole city from here. There is a prism shaped building there, it is free for you to go inside. Children have lots of area to play and people from any age group can enjoy there. I just loved the place.
Sudan G — Google review
Once a forgotten landfill, this space has been beautifully transformed into a sprawling green park—thanks to the creativity and vision of the people. Now, it's a beloved place where Sapporo’s residents come to stroll, play, and bask in the gentle warmth of the sun, surrounded by trees and open skies. It’s a quiet reminder of how imagination can turn even the most unlikely places into something truly special.
An V — Google review
This park was such an unexpected surprise to find so near to a busy city. It’s such an amazing open space to spend some time at when visiting Sapporo. Every single item at the park displays deliberate thoughtful planning by the architect. What a gem!
Casey C — Google review
Incredible place! It is amazing that in the 70s it was a garbage dump and they started a redevelopment project (in the Crystal Pyramid museum they explain year by year how they were designing it). By the hand of the incredible Isamu Naguchi, the park is a complete work of art. I recommend renting a bike (1 hour ¥100 and 2 hours ¥200, the standard bike).
Antonella B — Google review
Great option for a little escape from the usual vibrant Sapporo. Great art, lot of space, not overcrowded. Easy to reach by bus, worth spending some hours or half a day there.

Mt. Moiwa is a renowned peak in Sapporo, offering breathtaking nighttime panoramas of the city and Ishikari Bay. Visitors can ascend to the summit via a cable car or the Mt. Moiwa sightseeing expressway, followed by a ride on the unique Morris Car. The mountain is popular among locals for its accessibility and features five lightly climbed trails ranging from 2.4km to 4.5km in length.
Coming up at dusk, the 2 sections of ropeway are quite good, when the night falls, astonishing views show! So suggest no need to go up early,
Edward T — Google review
It's ok. I give this attraction 3 stars because you never really know if you would have the thick fogs blocking the scenery. We got unlucky when we went up and because our itinerary was tight, couldn't afford to use the coupon on another night. It was icy cold at the top and nothing to see but we made our own fun.
Jeff M — Google review
Nice place to view Sapporo. It is possible to drive up, but need to pay a small fee, which is less than the ropeway. Driving and the ropeway do not lead you to the top, so you’ll either need to take a paid mini cable car or hike up. The hike is generally easy and can be completed quite quickly.
Xunliang L — Google review
If you want to go here, make it in midafternoon and stay for about an hour after sunset to see the great view of Sapporo without the lights aa well as the dark city illuminated by a bevy of colors.
Jaja L — Google review
We went up at about 4.20pm to try to catch the sunset. It became rather cloudy, so the clouds ended up blocking the sunset. The night view was great but you had to stay for quite a while for the sky to darken. A lot of people were still coming up the ropeway at 6pm when we were heading off, so it seemed like the night view was way more popular than the sunset view. Heads up that by 530/545pm, you will need to queue to take the ropeway down.

23rd August 2026 Must visit Iconic View Point I hike up with my husband and had a wonderful 1.5hrs Up Up Up trail with nature & greens Upon arrival there were clean toilet at the Main station building. A cafe & a restaurant as well as souvenir shop Its clean and well organised place. We bough souvenir, had coffee and some pastry while wait for night fall Unfortunately today was a cloudy day and it was foggy and a bit windy Patience paid as there was a clear glimpse of the view from view point of Sapporo We stay until 7:30pm then went down to our surprise was we had a good 3 mins view as we take the last cable car down Memorable time created if you are thankful
Maria W — Google review
Great view over the city. The ropeway is in 2 stages, with change in the middle to the very top. Nice outside observatory platform. Great souvenir shop - restaurant a bit boring
Roland Z — Google review
Moiwayama Mountain offers an incredible view over Sapporo, especially around sunset. To get to the top, head to the cable car entrance, buy your ticket, and take the first cable car followed by another small train-like lift. The whole journey doesn’t take too long, and the view at the top is absolutely worth it. It gets quite chilly up there, even in summer, so bring an extra layer. There’s also a restaurant at the summit, but you’ll need to book several weeks in advance. Just be prepared for a bit of a queue when heading back down after sunset. Would definitely recommend it.

Sapporo Art Park is a delightful combination of art and nature, offering an outdoor gallery experience with approximately 73 large art pieces by local and international artists. The park's elegant museum showcases works by Sapporo and Hokkaido artists as well as global modern pieces. Additionally, visitors can enjoy sledding on snowy hills at the park or rent plastic sleds and doughnut-shaped tubes for a thrilling snow rafting experience pulled by a snowmobile.
Really beautiful sculpture park, just wish I got there earlier as the park closes at 5:30 (and I got there at 4pm — so I felt rushed and couldn’t see everything!) — make sure to wear good walking/running shoes as it’s a bit of a hike with some uphill portions that aren’t all paved (and some portions are marked as not wheelchair accessible) - I wore sandals and regretted it a bit!
Lorraine C — Google review
My husband and I very much enjoyed a relaxing few hours at this gorgeous park. It is very easy to get to and from via the subway and bus. We were somewhat confused at first as the buildings first encountered when entering the park appear deserted; however, it seems these are mainly used for workshops rather than displays. There is a magnificent display of varied ceramics and glassware that can also be purchased. The sculpture display is well worth the modest admission. It is expansive with an incredible array of sculptures, some quite thought provoking. There is only a buffet available for food and a dispenser for hot coffee (not good) so please think about food and from before heading here.
Joy L — Google review
The place is huge —- be ready to hike. While there are clear paths, some art works are located on elevated grounds, requiring you to take the dirt path. The place is easily accessible by public transportation.
Cynthia R — Google review
It’s a beautiful park surrounded by nature and luscious trees. It requires a hike to see all the sculptures, so wear comfy walking shoes. When you purchase a ticket, you receive a pamphlet and a map. It wasn’t as great as expected, and it’s more expensive than it’s worth.
Cassandra D — Google review
Stunning collection of sculptures. Add this as a must do on your itinerary, so very peaceful. The artwork offered different perspectives - totally unexpected experience. Could have spent two days just in this art park. So much to see and experience.
Cheryl C — Google review
It was definitely an experience and a fun thing to do. It’s a large park with a bunch of sculptures scattered around. Most of them are very abstract and esoterically named, so the meanings are up for argument, which was fun. On the day we went, it had just rained so the ground was muddy in a lot of places. Keep in mind the sculpture garden is pretty inaccessible in most places considering the terrain and elevation changes. That said, the park is situated in a great area just ten minutes away from the statue of the Buddha, which I recommend you check out as well given their proximity. Certainly a novel thing to do if you have nothing else better to do.
RD — Google review
What a wonderful way to spend the day!! Engaging, timeless and interesting sculptures out in the open. The works of art and environment drew me in. I felt like a child entering a world of wonder. The fact that it’s out in nature between beautiful trees and forest made the visit all the more special. A great day out!

Shiroi Koibito Park in Sapporo is a family-friendly destination that offers a variety of activities and attractions. Visitors can enjoy chocolate and cookie samples, explore exhibits showcasing the making of the famous Shiroi Koibito sweets, and even take a train ride through the park's garden area. The park also features a chocolate factory tour, cooking workshops, shops, cafes, and restaurants.
We didn't want to go here, but we're so glad that we did. Neither my wife nor I are great fans of sweets, but her family love them so we thought we should go here to buy some gifts. This was an excellent decision. We only visited the extensive free areas so cannot speak for the paid ones, but we had a wonderful time (aided in no small part by fantastic weather) and would definitely recommend that others also visit, whether they like sweets or not. The park is beautiful in a kitsch mock-european fashion with pleasant gardens full of roses. The animatronic displays were entertaining, and the park was spotlessly clean. When we visited, it was nearly October so the Halloween decorations were already out and appropriate music was being piped throughout the park. The shops were well played out and the produce was of a good quality. We enjoyed an ice cream and we're especially pleased by the customised biscuit tins that we were able to buy and which were ready in just 30 minutes. It was great to be able to buy so many gifts in one place saving us from having to constantly carry presents everywhere else we went during our trip.
Richard S — Google review
It’s such a beautiful place! I visited in mid-October, right in the middle of autumn. The gardens were decorated with colorful flowers in full bloom, and the weather was just perfect. If you don’t plan to visit any of the special exhibition rooms, there’s no entrance fee — just strolling around, taking photos of the rose garden, fountains, and stunning architecture already makes the trip worth it. You only need to pay a small parking fee, which isn’t expensive at all. When you get tired from walking, there are also tasty food and drinks available to enjoy.
Indira J — Google review
Wow, what a fun place! And it only gets better if you love chocolate. The open area is already so lovely, well kept, and enjoyable even without having to pay for admission into the park proper. But it's well worth it to pay the small admission price to see the chocolate museum and factory inside! I enjoyed the "time travel" presentation, and the Halloween theme during our visit. It's such an enjoyable visit that should last at least a few hours Pro tip: watch the clock tower at the top of every hour!

For a chocolate factory there are 2 products both are covered in so much biscuit you'd be surprised this isn't a biscuit factory. The story is cute and the garden is lovely, the garden is accessible for free and so is the shop and some lovely areas. Having been to bournville in the UK when it was UK owned and again when US Kraft owned it it's going a bit rubbish but is still about 100x more entertaining than this place. Recommended for if you like some superficial nonsense for your overpriced products. But if like me you were hoping to get some chocolate from a chocolate factory give it a swerve. Or just enjoy the English sort of aesthetic of the place and the garden but know the smell of chocolate will leave you deeply disappointed and needing to visit a shop for a proper chocolate experience

A wonderland that is both interesting and romantic. The ticket is 800 yen for adults, tourists can get access to the main building by the ticket. The main building, mostly telling stories about the history of making chocolates and the founder of this factory, is magic. And tourists can also learn how to make chocolates and cakes here. And the most impressive part I’ve learned today is that ‘white lover’ is named because the snow in Hokkaido is beautiful so that the founder’s father called it ‘white lover’. The dessert on the top of the factory was just splendid! with good view by the window, a perfect experience! Highly recommended!! And if you don’t buy tickets, the free area is also amazing, like a magic garden in a fairy tale. It’s a pity that we didn’t get enough time today, maybe next time when I come with my child, I’ll spend a whole day here!

Highly recommend to visit in October. The park is decorated for Halloween. We paid ¥800 to tour inside which was interactive for children as well. The factory view from above was very interesting. There are also plenty of photo spots and even a ¥300 camera from above photo spot in the courtyard. We purchased customised 36-biscuit tin and magnet from the Piccadilly shop downstairs in the main building and it was ready after a 30 wait. There are some shop exclusive items, however, the biscuits are standardised price across all gift shops in Hokkaido so no need to stock up here.

Awesome fun fairytale like place. For non-paid area, you can take a lot of Instagramable pictures. And there’s a song and show at every hour e.g 1pm, 2pm … For the paid area (8k yen), it was worth paying as I learnt a lot more on chocolate and the brand. On the top, there’s a cafe, drinks and food is ok but the view from the counter chairs is really pretty. It overlook the park and you can see the show at eye level.

Shiroi Koibito Park is well known as the home of Hokkaido’s famous cookies, and the inside factory tour and shop are quite fun. However, the outside area feels a little underwhelming—there isn’t too much to see or do, and it can feel a bit boring if you’re just walking around the gardens without joining the indoor activities. The design is pretty with some European-style touches, but overall the outdoor space is quite limited. It’s still worth visiting for the sweets and souvenirs, but if you’re expecting a large park with many attractions outside, it might feel a bit disappointing.

Nijo Market is a must-visit in Sapporo, offering a wide variety of freshly caught seafood and produce. This 100-year-old market is within walking distance of major attractions and showcases Hokkaido's legendary seafood bounty. Visitors can enjoy kaisen-don (sashimi rice bowl) at dining stalls like Oiso, known for its delicious offerings.
It was a very lively market! It's very convenient because you can walk from downtown Susukino. There are a lot of fresh seafood and many shops, so it's hard to choose where to go. You can sample king crab here and there, so I thought it was great that I could choose a shop I liked and buy it myself. It's cheaper than in Kanto, after all! I also had a seafood bowl at Oguma Shoten after wondering where to eat it! It was very delicious! Thank you for all the food. It took about 5 minutes to get there from downtown Susukino. Most of the shops were seafood shops. It took about 10 minutes even if you went quickly to the end of the street. The restaurant was small and cozy. There were quite a lot of customers when I went there at 7.30am. There were several seafood bowl shops and restaurants, and prices were moderate. The prices were moderate. Asparagus and potatoes were also available at . The market is close to the downtown area so it was good to be able to use the market easily.

We visited Nijo Market during our time in Sapporo and loved every bit of it. The atmosphere was lively and filled with the scent of fresh seafood. Stalls were lined with beautiful displays of crabs, scallops, sea urchins, and more—it was a feast for the senses even before tasting anything. After browsing around, we decided to sit down for lunch at one of the small stalls inside the market. We ordered fresh kaisendon and grilled seafood—everything was incredibly fresh and flavorful. The seafood bowl was overflowing with tuna, salmon roe, sweet shrimp, and uni, and it was easily one of the best meals we had during our Hokkaido trip. The staff at the stall were warm and welcoming, even helping us with recommendations. The kids also enjoyed walking around afterward, checking out other stalls and watching the seafood being cleaned and grilled on the spot. There’s a very local, down-to-earth feel about the whole place, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Nijo Market is more than just a place to buy seafood—it’s a window into Hokkaido’s food culture and a great spot for a satisfying, authentic lunch in Sapporo.

A good location to visit for an experience of a local Market. The place is nice and clean. There are many seafood restaurants here. We came before 8am and there were queues in front of most of the restaurants already. Other than restaurants there are many stalls Selling everything from seafood to dry goods to fruits. The stall staff were all very friendly and warm. Overall a good interesting place with good vibes to visit in Sapporo.

Lots of options for restaurants and fresh fish. Quite a few if the restaurants on the northern side have queues, but head west and you’ll find options that are less densely populated. Good to visit, even better to eat at.

Went to Nijo market around 1pm to look for the red Hanasaki crab which is in season: May-August. Chanced upon a stall (有)山下水産。Selected a medium size Hanasaki crab and bargained with seller. All friendly and good! The workers warmed it up and cut the crab 😄. Lots of meat and tasted very good. There’s sweetness in the meat and everybit is flavorful. It was enough for three of us (adults). Definitely a must try in Sapporo.

A very popular spot in Sapporo, mainly you can enjoy see food here, as choosing the most local people where line up, if you want the whole menu then you better come early, like 10 PM, or many items may sold out.

🐟 Nijo Market – Sapporo’s Seafood Playground (Just Don’t Come Hangry) 🍣 If you’re in Sapporo and craving a deep dive into Hokkaido’s seafood scene, Nijo Market is where it all begins. It’s not the biggest market in Japan—but it punches way above its weight when it comes to fresh catches and full-on flavor. You’ve got crabs the size of small dogs, scallops so fresh they still have ocean attitude, trays of sea urchin, sashimi bowls piled high like edible art, and enough dried fish and seafood snacks to make your backpack smell very interesting for the rest of the day. There’s a charm to how local and low-key it feels—no massive tourist spectacle here, just real-deal vendors, tiny family-run stalls, and breakfast spots that serve donburi so fresh it practically swims onto your rice. That said, some stalls do cater to tourists, so prices can vary depending on how far you wander. 💡 Pro tip: Come early for the freshest options and to beat the brunch crowd. Look for the smaller shops around the edges—they often have better deals and fewer cameras. And if you’ve never had uni before, this is the place to give it a go.

Hokkaidō Government Office, also known as the Former Government Office Building, is a striking red-brick structure dating back to the 1880s. This historical landmark boasts an American Neo-Baroque architectural style and has been designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. Inside, visitors can explore exhibits on Hokkaido's history and view the meticulously detailed Ezo Taigaizu map created by Matsuura Takeshiro.
I came here in summer 2023 and the government office building was under construction. And the front was covered. This time I got to see the real building which was very beautiful but still inside was under renovation until July 2025. Giving me more reasons to come back to visit. There’s a spot on the left side facing the building. A bridge on the pond which reminded me of Monet’s painting.

It is a beautiful place that the garden portion is opens to public. I think~ The garden itself is beautiful too with large trees, flower beds and couple ponds. I can see people sitting on the bench throughout the park next by the water or under the trees! The tulip is blooming at the time when I visit it. Great place for some nice photos!

We visited the Former Hokkaido Government Office, affectionately known as the Red Brick Office, during our walk around Sapporo and were pleasantly surprised by how charming it was. The red-brick architecture really stands out in the city—it’s elegant, classic, and photogenic from every angle. Even though restoration works were ongoing, the surrounding gardens were still open and beautifully maintained. We strolled through paths lined with flowers and trees, and there were plenty of spots to stop for photos or just enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. Inside, we explored some of the history exhibits and even saw a reconstruction of the Governor’s office. It’s not a huge museum, but it’s rich in Hokkaido’s heritage and doesn’t take long to explore. This place felt like a calm, green pause in the middle of the city and gave us a meaningful glimpse into Hokkaido’s past. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Sapporo.

I could never have imagined that the exchange program at Hokkaido University would become the most unforgettable experience of my life. The professors and program coordinators are true professionals, and the university itself meets the highest international standards of education. The campus atmosphere is one of a kind – full of life, with the student festival standing out as a true highlight. The beauty of the campus speaks for itself: cherry blossoms, plum trees, mandarin ducks, and serene ponds filled with koi. You’ll see it all with your own eyes. I know I’ll come back one day – to share Seicomart ice cream with my favorite professors again.

(Comments related to the campus scenery only, not its academic standing) very walkable campus with lots of greenery and rustic European buildings. Not a lot of tall glassy modern building per se.

A wonderful campus with a lot of green spaces. It is quite smaller than I thought; perhaps one can tour the whole campus in less than a day; nonetheless it does quite have its own allure and I can totally understand why many foreigner students would want to attend Hokudai. The University Museum also is a great place for visitors, as they have an extensive display of university archives + some ongoing research from different labs in campus. Definitely would recommend for those who have plenty of time to go around different parts of Sapporo.

Hope this sharing helps those who are planning to visit this place in autumn 🍁 I visited the university in late October for ginko and red leaves. During the last weekend of October, the student association held a festive event on golden leaves (金葉祭) at night for lighting up the ginko road with night light. It is a popular event among the locals and tourists where you can feel the passion of everyone! I'm amazed by this well organised event by the students ✨ The event started at 6 p.m. and everyone waited patiently at the entrance area for the lighting up. Just follow instructions and walk slowly along the way will be good. I also recommend you stay near the area and visit again in the next early morning with a no one blocking ginko view! The sunshine sparks the yellow ginko with a gentle and calming atmosphere. I'm sure you won't regret visiting there twice!

Visited here during fourth week of August 2023. A beautiful campus with a lot of green spaces and historical buildings. About 7 minutes’walk from Sapporo station to its main gate and 4 minutes’walk from Kita Juni Jo Station to North 13 Gate (Kita-jusanjo Gate, near Ginkgo Avenue). Among places visited are Sakushukotoni River - SAKUSHU琴似川 (flows through the Hokkaido University campus, runs south-north through what is almost the centre of the campus), Furukawa Hall - 古河纪念讲堂 (built in 1909 by the funds from Furukawa Zaibatsu. This is one of the University's Historical Buildings. Displaying the nobility of French renaissance architecture), Central Lawn - 中央草坪 (12,000 square meters of greenery. A pleasant place to relax with its green lawns and ample shade from nearby trees. An artificial stream flows through the gently sloped lawn, a place popular with students who can often been seen lounging beneath the trees napping, reading, or eating), Bust of Dr. William S. Clark - 克拉克像 (the first head of the Sapporo Agricultural School, the precursor to Hokkaido University, he exhorted his students with the phrase, “Boys Be Ambitious” (“少年啊,要胸怀大志!” )which is inscribed on the base of the bust), Elm Grove - ELM之森 (is a spacious grassy space between the buildings of the School of Agriculture and the School of Science. The lawn has many elm trees as its name), Entomology and Sericulture Hall, School of Agriculture农学部 (built 1901, 1-story wooden building, This building is the former Sapporo Agricultural College, Department of Entomology and Sericulture. It was renovated to house the Hokkaido Wine Education and Research Centre while preserving the original construction as much as possible), The Hokkaido University Museum -北海道大学综合博物馆 (contains academic specimens and resources dating back to when it opened as the Sapporo Agricultural College and part of the museum is open to the public. Admission is free), Ono Pond - 大野池 (lies almost in the centre of the campus. Mallard ducks are often seen swimming about. Lotus flowers and trillium can be seen around the pond in summer), Flowering Tree Garden - 北海道大学 花木園 (located right next to a row of poplar trees, and is planted with flowers and trees from the north. There is a wooden path through the wetland and you can admire the flowers around the pond), Monument in Honor of Dr. lnazo Nitobe - 新渡户稻造博士表彰碑 (renowned for his contributions internationally, he was a graduate of the second year of the Sapporo Agricultural College. He established the Enyu Night School so that poor children would be able to study), Poplar Avenue - 杨林荫道 (a row of poplar trees. The pathway runs for 80 meters between the rows of trees and is covered with wood chips), Ginkgo Avenue -银杏林荫道 (is a fantastic avenue of Ginkgo trees facing east, which leads towards Kita-jusanjo Gate. An epic about 380 metres long with majestic gingko trees lined on each side. The road turns golden in fall with the beautiful foliage), Botanic Garden of Hokkaido University - 北海道大学植物園 (opened in 1886, occupies 13.3 hectares, located at North3, West8, Chuo-ku, Sapporo, a facility of Hokkaido University for botanical research and education, open to the public with admission fee charged) Enjoyed breakfast at Seicomart - hot chef is available at this convenience store, the hot food menu is handmade in the kitchen inside the store, sold fresh and hot. It has an eat-in area on the 2nd floor, as well as terrace seating, it’s great to buy simple meals here and enjoy the campus scenery from the comfortable seats upstairs!, enjoyed lunch at Hokkaido University Central Cafeteria中央食堂 – one of the cafeterias on campus that offering nutritious foods at affordable prices, enjoyed Nishiokoppe-mura Soft Serve Ice Cream (soft-serve ice cream made with milk from Hegiwara Farm in Nishiokkope Village) at Museum Cafe Polus, enjoyed homemade gelato at Hokudai Marche Cafe & Labo.

Nestled on the slopes of Mt. Okura, the Mt. Okura Ski Jump Stadium, also known as Ōkurayama-Schanze, is a remarkable site that once hosted the 1972 Winter Olympics. This iconic ski jump venue offers visitors an exhilarating experience with its impressive height of over 133 meters. A scenic chairlift ride whisks you to the top, where breathtaking panoramic views of Sapporo and its surrounding landscapes await.
I was taking the creaky chairlift to the top of the Mt. Okura Ski Jump, the snow lightly falling on my lap, when I turned around and took a look at the city. One of the most beautiful views my retinas have ever been blessed to see. You get a vast view of the city from the top, the Sapporo skyline popping out like little legos out of the ground. I felt like I was in a snow globe. These kinds of views really have me pondering my place in the world and in the universe. What does it all really mean? There is a cafe at the top to get a coffee or some snacks, along with a direct view of the ski jump that hosted the Olympics back in 1972. You get the vantage point the skiers get when they are about to drop in. I got the heebie-jeebies just thinking about having to do that. I don’t want any of that smoke. They built different. When in Sapporo, you gotta come here to gain some perspective. IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov__

if you have never seen a ski jump place, gotta give it a try. You go up to the top by the ski lift which is fun. At the top, you can feel how high and steep the ski jump thing is. Also you can view the whole Sapporo City. You can grab beer, ice cream, tea, etc and enjoy the view. There is a Sapporo Olympic museum too. You can buy a ticket to see both at a discounted price.

This was an unexpected absolute thrill. Do yourself a favour and find time to visit this iconic ski stadium. The view from the top was breathtaking. We had the added bonus of seeing some skiers taking to the slope for ski jump practice - without snow. This is well worth the visit and very easy to navigate with train and bus from Sapporo. Just don’t miss the last bus at 4.30pm.

One of the cooler experiences I’ve had in Sapporo, the views of the city are beautiful and the size of the ski jump is breath taking. Unfortunately the Olympic museum is closed until March 2023 for renovations. Absolutely worth the trip, we took a taxi because it would have been about double as long a trip from the hotel to actually arrive at the ski jump. The cafe had curry breads and meat pastries that were good, even if they were warmed in the microwave.

Pros: very cool that the 1972 Winter Olympics ski jump was here. Beautiful scenes. Great ice cream and other snacks in the morning. Ample parking. Cons: not so easy to access by public transit. Fees for museum and lift a but much. Food also not cheap. Inattentive or indifferent staff. Overall: as part of a bus tour, great! But out of the way and expensive. Worth a visit for the historical value.

Large beautiful walking park, great for viewing sakura (cherry blossoms) and Ume (plum blossoms) if you’re visiting in late April, early May! The park offers an abundance of different kinds of blossoms to enjoy. We arrived at the beginning of the season and were able to enjoy various stages of the blooms, from buds to full blossoms. Vendors line the walkways selling various food and drink items. It was lovely to see so many people, of all ages, out enjoying nature and beauty Highly recommend visiting this park during your stay in Sapporo! There is no charge to visit the park- it’s free!

We visited in November, planning to do some birdwatching and see if we can find squirrels. The park was perfectly described with the word 'koyo', as the autumn foliage was outstanding! In the pond we found a group of Mandaring Ducks, Mallards and other songbirds. We also found squirrels! Some people offered nuts and acorns. Don't feed the crows! The Botanic Garden Hokkaidō University, established in 1886, is a historic botanical garden located at the heart of Sapporo. Originally created for educational purposes, it now offers visitors beautifully maintained gardens with diverse plant species and a tropical greenhouse. The garden's lush greenery, colorful flowers, and serene walkways make it an ideal place to unwind and appreciate nature. In autumn, the vibrant fall foliage adds to the garden's charm.
You can see many plants that were used in the lives of the indigenous people. If you are tired of the hustle and bustle of the city, come here to relax. It is a very nice and quiet place.👍

It’s a very calm and quiet place to visit as a break from the city noise. At the entrance you can see the information on what plants are currently blooming, so you don’t waste your time roaming around the whole garden. Especially considering the fact that many explanations about the sections of the garden or plants in them are only in Japanese, so the visit takes longer if you want to understand what you’re looking at. The Ainu museum was very interesting but unfortunately much smaller than expected.

We visited when only the greenhouse was open -- the place is small. Two greenhouses. But, the area outside looks like it would be beautiful during spring/summer/fall! I wish we could see it then (why I'm giving it 4 stars). The greenhouse itself is a little underwhelming, but for 120Y per person, I'm not one to complain. Just want to set the expectations properly for the winter season. Entrance is a bit difficult to find, but follow the signs. Seems the main entrance / ticket area is not open during the winter, and you need to go to the greenhouse. I couldn't find parking specifically for the garden, so I parked in a nearby lot for 440Y per hour.

Great spot for a rainy day in Sapporo! Tanukikoji Shopping Street is fully covered, making it easy to stroll through regardless of the weather. There’s a wide variety of shops and restaurants, from local eats to quirky stores and a Mega Don Quijote’s. One of the highlights is an older section of the arcade that has a more nostalgic feel — including a fun vintage clothing shop that’s definitely worth a browse. A good mix of the modern and the retro!

I love this shopping street – it’s like a covered arcade but still open at both ends, which gives it a nice open-air feel while still being sheltered. There’s a huge mix of shops and restaurants, and honestly, you could spend hours here if you wanted. It goes on forever, so if you have time, try walking it from one end to the other. It’s a great way to explore and stumble upon all sorts of little spots.

We passed these streets and finally went through. There are lots of shops and eateries. The Beer Gardens were being set up nearby. It’s definitely in the hub of Sapporo, near Odori park, etc. Just don’t go to Exchangers to get currency exchanged. We made that mistake.

Very long stretch of shopping with all kinds of shops. We went there to visit a 24-hr gym (Fit24). Spent hours at the Mega Donki. Visited a nice coffee place and Daiso too.
Ann G — Google review
This shopping street is about a 7 block stretch separated by 7 traffic junctions. It’s interesting but after awhile it’s more of the same, loaded with pharmacies, gashapon, game shops, tourist souvenir shops and some pretty decent eateries. It’s a vibe, go for the experience but there’s no need to finish all 7 blocks.

Nestled in the heart of Sapporo, Hokkaido, Nakajima Park is a serene oasis that beckons visitors with its lush landscapes and tranquil waters. This expansive park features a symphony hall and a literature museum, making it an ideal spot for culture enthusiasts. Families can enjoy renting boats on the picturesque Iris Pond or simply stroll through the beautifully manicured gardens that include a charming teahouse.
A delightful oasis in the heart of Sapporo, Nakajima Park in June is a lush haven of greenery and serenity. The trees are in full bloom, offering a cooling canopy for leisurely strolls. Families, couples and children enjoy its expansive lawns and charming walking trails. The pond is particularly picturesque, with rowboats gliding across the calm waters and ducklings trailing their mother along the banks. Despite the overcast skies during our visit, the park buzzed with a festive atmosphere thanks to the vibrant rows of food stalls selling everything from grilled meats to traditional sweets. A perfect blend of nature, culture, and community spirit — a must-visit if you’re in Sapporo during early summer.
Isaac S — Google review
Went to Nakajima park on 20th Oct 2025. Autumn was late this year, so some trees are still green. It was not too crowded. Most people would try to find the red trees to take photos with. You should walk further into the park and you’ll find quieter spots to sit and enjoy the peace. You can also see ducks bathing or sleeping in the shade.
Serene L — Google review
In my view, if there is a must visit place to enjoy fall foliage in Sapporo, I would say don't give this park a miss. It is very convenient and right in the city centre. The pond area is superbly attractive and captivating. It's a twenty minutes walk around the pond to enjoy various colours of vibrant red, orange and yellow. There are also many different species of trees and plants aside Maple. There are also a few side routes to leads to various themed gardens and rest areas. There are ducks and pigeons all over the park. If you have a sharp eye, there are also many pretty birds. One pet peeve I need to complain here. There are many signs that clearly states you are not allowed to pluck the leaves. Yet I see many tourists (non English speaking) either pluck the leaves for sourvenir or pulled the branches and leaves to take a picture. Wake up! You do not pull or pluck living plants! If you want sourvenirs, just look for fallen leaves as I have, plenty on the ground. Just be patient and you can find nice ones. Trust me. If you are in Sapporo during fall, do make the trip here. Plan for half a day. Too many picture opportunities! There are rest benches all over the park as well as public toilets near the bus stop.

A lovely park to stroll and rest. Plenty of benches along the pond which you can rest and enjoy a tranquil day. I visited 23 Oct, the autumn leaves are still there but hurry. The ginkgo trees are also fruiting with plenty of nuts hanging. Highly recommended to visit.

On the morning of October 29, 2025, I visited the park after yesterday’s snowfall. The scenery was breathtaking, a vibrant tapestry of autumn colors that words can hardly capture. The maple leaves were transforming, shifting from lush green to warm hues of yellow, brown, and fiery red. The ginkgo leaves, meanwhile, glowed with a radiant golden-yellow, catching the light in a mesmerizing display. It was truly a stunning experience ! 紅葉🍁が、最高、!!😍

This park is beautiful during autumn with changing colors of the leaf on the trees. The park is filled with activities with local walking their dog or jogging around the park. You can also see local just enjoying spending time with their friends or loved one at the park.

The autumn colors, it was absolutely breathtaking this morning. And there was a rainbow too after the skies cleared up. Such a beautiful reflection in the water as the sun hits the beautiful colored trees with the rainbow in the background. It was a scenery straight out of a painting, I was lost for words.

The trees were at their peak foliage when we visited today. The play of colours- green, yellow, orange, red and brown- made the area look like nature's palette. With beautiful lush green meadows to serene lakes, Nakajima Park lies in the heart of Sapporo and is truly a marvel to look at.

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Hokkaido University, the Hokkaido University Museum is a treasure trove for anyone curious about natural sciences and history. This free-admission gem showcases an impressive array of exhibits that span from dinosaur fossils to medical research archives, offering insights into both the university's academic pursuits and Sapporo's rich heritage.
When we came here, they had a special exhibit combining beautifully preserved insects with their print counterparts in illustrated scientific publications. Super nice! Entrance is free and lots of information available. Although most are in Japanese, it's still a nice museum in the middle of the city.
Jeff M — Google review
💴Free💴 Floor 2 and Floor3 have the exhibits. Floor 1 is the history of the college and his past students. It's all in Japanese. Nice break from the snow Festival. Has a massive collection of a variety of academic subjects. Loved the fossils and rock collection. We took the train and walked over. I would suggest eating beforehand. With all the snow it made it challenging to walk further than necessary.
Yuuki A — Google review
Free admission in the middle of campus. 3 floors with a nice variety of stuff to see. You got the uni's history, biology, space, science, medicines (pharmaceutical and diseases), archeology, anatomy, insects, minerals/rocks, and more. There is a mildew smell when entering the building, so you might need to get used to that. Small gift shop and cafe at the end. Included edible insects for sale.
Tommy O — Google review
A pretty good museum that admits anyone free of charge. Besides history of the university, the museum is a collection of various categories of items likely from efforts of the many different departments of the university. You could easily spend 1 hour in there if you take your time to look through most rooms, spread over 3 floors. Pretty accessible from Sapporo JR station ~ 10 minutes walk.
Kyczzz — Google review
I was pleasently surprised! Tbh I expected way less! Every department has kind of it‘s own exhibition. So you can see a variety of different science fields in this museum, from animals, over dinosaurs, medicine, geology, culture studies… Also most exhibitions offer english information. Great museum, especially when considering it‘s free!
Patority — Google review
We went to see the Gingko Trees at the University but actually enjoyed the Museum as well. There are some interactive exhibitions inside. It’s also free to enter. The ice cream is really good!!
Nix — Google review
Museum showcasing the importance and achievements of the university, broken down into exhibitions featuring each major individually. Feels like each exhibition is a mini museum of its own, from science and maths to archeology, to biology and even rockets and medical studies. Most interesting exhibition to me was the medical section about skin abnormalities, which did not allow pictures to be taken. The major drawback for foreigners however, is that just about everything is in Japanese. Only the main title had an english translation for some exhibitions.
Nigel P — Google review

Asahiyama Memorial Park, opened in 1970 to commemorate Sapporo's centennial, offers a vast panorama of the cityscape from an elevation of over 130 meters. The park provides sweeping views of Sapporo and serves as a quick escape from the city's hustle and bustle without leaving its limits. It is known for its beautiful nature, water fountain plaza, restrooms, and connecting trail to Mt Moiwa for hiking enthusiasts.
I went there in the morning. It was not crowded at all. The view from the observation deck over Sapporo is very beautiful. It has a big parking lot. So going here by car is no problem. Would definitely recommend coming here and enjoying the view over Sapporo. When there are no clouds you may also see the mountains in the background.

My driver took me here after my visit to Mount Moiwa Ropeway. We can in the evening so I couldn’t really see the grandeur of the park. However, this park does boast an amazing view of the Sapporo city skyline in the evening. The park reminded me of an amphitheater as there was many step levels to sit a rest. The top of the level of the park has a clock tower. This would be an ideal spot to take a date as you can see the city lights and best of all……it is free.

Such a beautiful place to spend the day! Tulips were in full bloom when we visited and they were spectacular! The waterfalls and cherry blossoms were also a highlight! The sound of local birds singing as you walk through the forests is so calming. And if you have kids, the children’s play areas look like so much fun!

Came on July 28 2025. Attended the Segway tour which consists of 45 minutes of training and a 1-2 hour tour across the park on the segway(highly recommended.). Good scenery and there is an area for children to have fun with water parks, slides, inflatable castles and even a hill where they can play Sisyphus with a large red ball. Good for family trips.

Lovely park, not only with bountiful of flowers in May but also the waterfall was spectacular to see. There was so much more of the park that I didn’t explore but I wish I stayed half a day there! There are three parking areas, the Chuo gate is suitable for people who are not physically fit if you would like to see the waterfalls and flower area. There is a parking fee and entrance fee (per person). But it is reasonably priced. I would come here again if I visited Sapporo in the future!

This is probably the best park for me in Sapporo. It's very big with plenty of space, walking trails, the makamanai river and so much more. Sapporo Ainu Culture Promotion Center is a place where visitors can immerse themselves in the captivating traditions of Hokkaido's indigenous Ainu people. The center showcases cherished practices such as skillful wood carving and traditional weaving techniques using unique materials like bark from the Manchurian elm. Visitors can also witness the evolution of Ainu art through the works of wood sculptor Toru Kaizawa, who combines ancestral traditions with his own artistic style.
Really great museum exploring Ainu heritage, great exhibits as well as videos where you can see them at work as they would be in real life. You can even try some of the games and crafts in real time, and the entry price is only 200 yen for an adult. You can also see a kotan, that is beautiful, especially in the winter! They also have 4 stamps you can collect at different parts of the exhibit. We visited on a snowy day and it was magical.
Alexandra — Google review
The museum was an unexpected find on our way to Jozankai. It is quite small (we spent a good hour) and gives a great insight into Ainu culture from its beginnings until today. The exhibit is very interactive: you can touch things, there are videos, computer screens to read infomation. You can book activities like knitting and wood carving. There is also a small shop selling Ainu things. Do not miss the outside area with traditional housing, a boat and a garden.
Ingo ( — Google review
I can relate with the Ainu people’s history being from Hawaii and having part Native Hawaiian ancestry as their story is eerily similar. EXPERIENCE: Luckily we had a friend accompanying us who happens to teach about the Ainu culture, so we had an expert personal tour guide. We started with the outside exhibits that included a big wooden kayak, replicas of a typical chise (house), a wooden bear “pen” and outhouse. Piped-in chanting via speakers added to the nostalgia. Entry into the museum itself is free, though exhibits in this area are limited. They also offer a complimentary photo shoot while donning Ainu wear. Work your way down the exhibit ramp and you’ll end up at the pay-for part of the place. Entry was 200 Yen p/p. Here, you’ll experience some interactive material and unprotected displays up close, but don’t touch them! Exhibits had English titles but descriptions were only in Japanese. The most interesting artifact to me was the clothing & shoes made from salmon skin. OVERALL: Not a busy place at all so you’ll have time and bubble space to leisurely go through the museum.
Maui T — Google review
I absolutely love this Museum, you can interact with all the items and it is super interestimg, also the Ainu folk have a workshop so you can learn more about their art crafts and tjwir culture. A must if you are in Sapporo. I LOVED THE MUSEUM
Lou G — Google review
Its open on some Tuesdays, maybe closed every last Tuesday of the month? Call ahead and ask. We went on Tuesday the 16th of september. The exhibits are brilliant, most notably, you can touch everything!! In other words, this museum is could be fantastic for blind or visually impaired people if they have a guide who can read out the panels for them. I was really impressed. Note: if you speak English and not Japanese, there are two little computers at the end of the paid museum part where you can read everything in English. Unfortunately, the quality of the images is very poor, but the translation is good, so I really recommend taking the time to go through the different explanations.
M H — Google review
Great place to learn about the history of the indigenous Ainu people of Hokkaido. There is a small museum exhibit that is for a small fee, while the rest of the grounds are free of charge, including traditional Ainu houses and free crafts that you can do! If you are staying in Sapporo city, it might be a good idea to book the Kappa Liner bus ahead of time (especially in the winter), but the local buses are not that bad either. So beautiful when there is snow though.
Dennis P — Google review
It is not a tourist attraction as the general tourists imagine but it is an immersion experience that all should have. You can see the pristine work on researching and preserving Ainu culture not only for exhibition but it is a real culture center open to public. For me is a must go in Sapporo. It is great for some learning and making a intellectual growth time during vacations.

Beautiful display of ainu cultural artifacts. Along with an interactive display on its history. The display had English option so no worries about that. Staff were great and there's a free workshop section. Able to carve/beadwork/ necklace. Super neat and fun way to interact with the culture. Would give it a check. This was a great day out. Cherry picking was a fun experience. The kids ate their body weight in cherries, which were plentiful and bright orange/pink. Really picturesque surroundings and we had a good chicken cooked on hot coals in front of us for lunch. Easy to get to by public bus (plus a 15 min walk) from Sapporo.
David S — Google review
Absolutely wonderful! We make reservations in advance for jam making and a lunch of ezo deer. The jam making was educational and the jam itself is the most delicious I’ve ever had. The head staffer who taught us also gave us pears, prunes, and apples, all of which were incredibly delicious. I definitely recommend coming here to get fruit! You can also pick it and buy it to take with you, and you don’t need a reservation for that. It looks like they have other activities too. An elementary schooler from the city was there with his family, they were doing child-level fishing in a pond on the farm, it looked super cute. Overall a delightful place! Whether you have a reservation or not for the activities, I recommend it. You need to make the reservation at least one day before so they can prepare the materials in advance.

Jozankei Farm is located in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan. This farm have different types of Cherry trees with different other three like Apple, berry, grapes etc. This farm have facilities with cherry picking and eating. Entrance fee is 600 yen/adult. Cherry picking and eating is 1700 yen/adult. Cherries are juicey and sweet. But sweet and sour varies with types of cherries. Ladder is available for cherry picking. Access: Sapporo station exit 23 gate. Bus stand no 26. Bus no 7 H, towards Hoheikyo dam. Get off Yutakabashi. From Here Jozankei Farm is 2.2 km which is accessible by own car or walk. Other activities like fishing, BBQ, tree climbing are also available with reasonable prices.
Saswati A — Google review
We came quite late into the season so not many cherry to pick (and it's quite pricy considering you need to pay for both admission and by weight (600 yen/100g). What I would recommend though was bbq (lambs, deers, and chicken) which was very tasty.
Gunn V — Google review
Great place for a family outing. Depending on the season, you can choose to pick different kinds of fruits. But there is only strawberry🍓 and cherry 🍒 in this fruit farm. other activities like fishing and then bbq the fish you catch... spend about 3 hrs here should be sufficient
Yong T — Google review
Visited in first week of June, and no fruits picking were in season. However, they still charge 600yen to tour the farm, which does not have much to see. That is on top of whether you add on any activities. I went for the height obstacle course with my kid, which was ok. They charge 1100yen for 2 hrs of fishing, and you need to further pay for the weight of fish you catch. My dad caught 6, and we paid 4600yen for them including bbq. On the whole, very touristy with nothing much to offer if fruits are not in season.
Shunlong L — Google review
Highly overpriced. 500 JPY just for entrance fees alone, and depending on the seasons, 70% of the orchards are either barren or bare (not in season). Fees to pluck fruits and eat them off the trees were pretty extorbitant too, but we just went for it as we had already invested an hours' drive to get here. It's eat as many as you can for a fixed fare (around 2000 JPY per pax), but really, how many apples/prunes (fruits in season when I was there) can you eat in 1 seating? You can bring back the fruits you harvested, but to take them out means extra fees either by weight or by quantity. Good experience apart from the price, but on hindsight, just feels like a tourist trap.

A beautiful place with plenty of room to walk in nature. We got a nice day with great colors of fall foliage. It was a mild 12c. I could spend an hour reading here with a thermos of hot tea. There is a sign about bears, but we didn't hear or see anything.

This photo shows Kawami, held under Horohira Bridge at the end of August. This year's Kawami event lasted for 10 days. The name "Kawami" was chosen based on the concept of enjoying food and drinks from food stalls and food trucks while listening to the murmuring of the river. It's a coined word, isn't it? I visited on the final night. It's fun to gaze at the illuminations set up on Horohira Bridge while nostalgically celebrating the passing of summer. It's a wonderful sight, where city and nature blend together. If you have the opportunity, be sure to experience Kawami, a culture that originated in Sapporo. A nice park with a functional path system that goes through it! I entered the park from the east side and eventually emerged from the west side. The tall trees provide shade during particularly sunny days, which I was grateful about. During a weekday, the park was not that populated.

This is such a beautiful park full of greenery and trees. It’s a great place to come for the Sakura viewing festival as well as plum flowers in the spring. There’s plenty of parking if you bring a car. There’s also delicious plum flavored soft ice cream for sale.

Superb place to experience Sakura trees. I visited this park after failing to see the Sakura trees in bloom at Goryokaku garden in Hakodate. You’ll need to walk about 750m before you arrive in the heart of the garden where the Sakura trees are and boy are they beautiful!! There was a special Sakura flavoured soft serve too and it was just pure bliss. Lots of local families and couples were there to visit and take photos. Overall it was a very rewarding visit.

Great park for a little adventure. Good for training on outdoor activities like trekking, hiking, and birdwatching. Note that there are two parts of the park: the smaller one with the sport fields and playground area, and the bigger one with forest and swamp areas and plum grooves. I wasn't aware of any connecting road between the two parts. The nearest JR train and subway stations are more than 2 km away.
Theodorus P — Google review
There are two parts to this park. The larger park contains: the plum Grove, walking trails, park golf and wet land boardwalk area and across the road is the sports area: baseball, tennis and large playground. Both parks are beautiful but there is no connection path, or tunnel between the two areas over a large busy road which makes it inconvenient to enjoy both without driving or a 5-10min walk (must stop for traffic as it is near the highway ETC. Still it is worth the trip with the Plum Grove being a local favorite in May. Many dog walkers enjoy the area.

A small but beautiful park with a footbath, a place to cook onsen eggs, statues, and a Kappa-themed photo stand-in. It’s gorgeous in the winter. You can purchase the eggs, and towels if you need, across the bridge at the souvenir shop. It’s 180円 for 3 eggs in Winter 2024. No salt or pepper is provided. The sign says to cook them for 17 minutes, but our eggs were still very soft (gooey white, running yolk) even after 25 minutes. If you like harder eggs, cook them for longer. However, do watch out for crows stealing your eggs.

Saswati A — Google review
There is a public hot spring for footbaths, although the entrance is not very obvious. The park itself is quite small—if you’re not using the footbath, 5 to 10 minutes should be enough for a visit.

Very nice park with koi streamers celebrating Children’s Day. The park has a free foot bath onsen as well. Parking was difficult here and I did not find a public parking lot close by. The small onsen town has a few onsen facilities for day or overnight use with plenty of parking. Unfortunately the road to get to this spot is under heavy construction and traffic backup is very common even during the weekday.
