The Anchorage Museum is a sprawling exhibition space covering over 170,000 square feet and drawing nearly 200,000 visitors annually. It showcases Alaskan artifacts, artworks, and collections of tools and relics from the state's native tribes. The museum offers a journey through Alaskan history from its earliest years to modern times, including Russian settlement and the gold rushes.
Wow! What an amazing museum. Just absolutely beautifully curated, with an extensive collection that embodies different aspects of Alaska from fine art, cultural artifacts, humor, stories and culture of the native people, and even the role of Alaska and the Cold war. I cannot say enough good things about this museum, and we go to a lot of museums. Worth setting aside multiple hours!

Located in downtown Anchorage, the Anchorage Museum is a large, well-designed museum offering a fascinating look into the rich history and culture of Alaska. With four floors of exhibits, there’s a lot to see and learn here. From the early days of gold mining to the traditions of Alaska Native peoples, to the enduring legacy of dog sledding and mushers, the museum does a great job weaving together the diverse stories that make up Alaska’s identity. You’ll find extensive displays on fishing, agriculture, and Arctic exploration, as well as a variety of art exhibits showcasing both traditional and contemporary works. It’s an ideal place to visit if the weather isn’t cooperating—whether it’s rainy, snowy, or just cold outside. There’s a small café area inside with snacks, drinks, and seating, offering a nice place to take a break. One standout convenience is the underground parking garage, which is climate-controlled and secure—a huge plus during Alaska’s colder months. Plan to spend at least 2–3 hours here, though you could easily spend longer if you’re someone who likes to take it all in. Overall, it’s a great museum experience for visitors of all ages.

Extremely well done exhibits that present the full picture of Alaskan history, especially the native people groups. Great for families as many exhibits are kid friendly and hands on. Don’t miss this if you are in town.

Excellent Museum. It has a lot of everything. Most of all, a lot of Alaskas beautiful history and has its own WW2 section about the Aleutian Island campaign, which my grandfather fought in. He used to box for the Alaska Army boxing team! Bring the kids, there is a lot of interactive activities for them. Every first Friday of the month is free entry after 6 pm.

More than just a cultural museum, there is a nice balance of culture, fine art, and interative physical science and art. We could have stayed for a few more hours but needed to catch a plane home. We were pleasantly surprised by the diverse and well curated collections. The coffee shop is one of the best I have been to inside a museum. I will definitely return when in Anchorage.

A group of musicians were visiting Anchorage for a number of concerts and I was delighted to enjoy hearing a few sets. There was one individual with a short piece and other sets. It was a low cost show too. After the mini concert I saw a display from the Dog room.

The Anchorage Museum is absolutely stunning—clean, modern, and thoughtfully designed. It truly has something for everyone, from captivating exhibits to hands-on activities for kids. The displays are beautifully curated, especially the Alaska Native artifacts, which offer a rich and respectful glimpse into the state’s diverse cultures and history. Whether you're a local or a visitor, it's an inspiring place to learn more about what makes Alaska so unique. Highly recommend!

The Alaska Native Heritage Center offers a comprehensive experience of native culture, featuring exhibits, films, and demonstrations. The center showcases traditional dwellings in a woodland area, constructed with local timbers and adorned with whale bones. Visitors can immerse themselves in the heritage through regular exhibitions, events, performances of local dance, language, and cooking. Located just west of downtown Anchorage, the center hosts workshops and shows ranging from world music gigs to film festivals for indigenous productions.
This is a MUST SEE! I visited with my two teen sons, and they truly enjoyed it. We caught the demonstration of the Eskimo games. You need to see it to understand the level of skill they have. We have been back in NC for a week, and I've seen my son's in our gym trying to do the high kick. They also did a demonstration of a harpoon throw. We tried it but we're not very good. It was a great learning experience. The houses really intrigued me. It was not what I expected. I encourage everyone to visit and learn the history of that region. The walking tour was perfect because our guide shared stories of her region, which was the most northern area. Each guide is from a different area. We saw the dancers, and it was nice to hear songs in their native language as some of the regional languages have been lost due to colonization. They offer military and senior discounts.
Kimberly G — Google review
The museum is small but full of knowledge in an interactive way. I think our favourite part was talking to the crafters in the lobby. Each had wonderful stories about their projects that helped me learn about their lives in the north. We loved chatting with Marg the elder. We also saw different types of lodgings and a traditional dance. That all and Marg best of luck from your two Canadian friend in you wedding.

We had my daughter’s quinceanera here and it was just so amazing. Everyone had such a good time and they opened the back for the quests to walk around. From start to finish the entire staff was amazing and made this a memorable event. The event was such a success we now have people asking about points of contacts and pricing. If you are looking into places to host your special event don’t pass up your opportunity to have it here.
Pablo G — Google review
There is a free shuttle from the downtown log cabin. $30 entry and the attendants were very helpful explaining the tools and building as you walk through them. The free shows are nice to watch as well. Plan for around 1.5-2 hrs here.
Matt S — Google review
Had a wonderful time learning about the native culture. It is a great place to learn about the culture and unfortunately what was done to stifle it in the past. The demonstration of the native games and dance was great. The tour of the various types of dwellings that were built across such a wide range of climate and conditions was enlightening. Shout to to Zach our guide who was not only very knowledgeable but super entertaining as well. I highly recommend a stop here.
Larry R — Google review
If you are seriously interested in learning about Alaska, you just visit this center. The gallery about the various people groups is fascinating along with a timeline of settlement of the territories. The hard truths are presented well to make us all think and reflect. There are informative films and demonstrations in the main building that were very educational. I highly recommend taking a guided tour of the various areas so you can learn as much as possible about the various settlements and ways of life.
Jonathan K — Google review
Awesome cultural experience, they have multiple native experiences such as story telling, songs, and dances by natives, so much info on the local tribes and history. Great place to visit and learn about the real alaska from the people who know best, many local craft options for sale as well.
Jennifer H — Google review
Our travel agent booked us a tour here on Monday the 12th, but when we arrived, we found out that the center wasn’t open for the season quite yet 😅 … Despite the communication error from our travel agency, Mark (I believe his name was) offered to take us around their exhibits— which was more than generous! We greatly appreciated being able to see the dwellings of each tribe of Alaskan natives along with Mark’s detailed lectures of their history. I highly recommend 👍

The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, situated in Portage Valley, is a refuge for injured and orphaned animals. Spanning 200 acres, this non-profit organization is dedicated to wildlife conservation and care. Visitors can stroll, drive or bike through the 1.5-mile loop within the sanctuary to observe animals like bison, reindeer, wolves, and bears against the stunning backdrop of Chugach mountains and Turnagain Arm Inlet coastline.
My husband and I visited the conservation center as part of a Glacier and Wildlife tour. We had an absolute blast. The bears were our favorite and we got some wonderful pictures. I enjoyed seeing animals up close that are normally behind glass at a zoo. I love the conservation efforts for the wood bison as well. We got to see some very new baby bison while we were there. I highly recommend visiting if you're in Alaska.

I’ve always loved this place — not only as somewhere to bring out-of-town guests, but also for a fun day trip with my daughter and her friends. The mission behind the center is truly meaningful, and I really appreciate that the animals are kept in large, natural, and humane enclosures. The staff are always friendly, welcoming, and clearly care about the work they do. It’s a wonderful experience every time we visit!
Savanah E — Google review
I really want to give this place 5 stars but there were some issues that kept me from doing so. First they had hours posted. I arrived just at opening time and the gates were closed. Myself along with a few other vehicles waited at the gate for about 20 minutes. Finally a car came and told us they would not be opening until 12:30. So I left and came back. Upon coming back I was greeted by a friendly person at the toll booth. I paid my fare and entered. The first thing I noticed were a lot of the exhibits were vacant. Not sure if it was the time of year or if they had lost or removed some of the animals. I watched the crew feed bears and that was great and absolutely the highlight of the trip. In all I would say it took me about 40 minutes to see everything including the 15 minutes or so I spent watching the bear feeding. It was neat but don’t think I’d come back.

The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center is an absolute gem! Watching bears roam freely in their natural habitat was breathtaking, and seeing coyotes, caribou, and other native animals up close made the experience unforgettable. The center is beautifully maintained, educational, and truly dedicated to wildlife preservation. A must-visit for anyone exploring Alaska!
Subhankar D — Google review
Had higher expectations in terms of number of bears and moose we will get to see here but turned out to be not as great as we expected. We thought of the entrance fee as a donation for the care of the amazing animals they have. We did not see a bull moose which was our main goal. We did get see musk ox and lynx which were quite cool.
Chirag S — Google review
I did the Walk on the Wild Side tour as a birthday gift to myself, and it was amazing! Ivie was a great, knowledgeable guide who was able to help me spot well hidden animals. Knowing each animals story made the visist even better. Learning about their conservation efforts through the visist gave me more insight as well. AND I got to feed Twix the porcupine! I cannot recommend this center enough. I highly recommend a tour- it gives you so much more insight to how this center is helping not only their animals, but the Wood Bison population in Alaska.
Harlow B — Google review
Amazing place to see wildlife up close. Despite the rainy day, everything was very accessible by car, with a few spots where we hopped out for a closer look. Gift shop is really quite nice and had a wide variety of gifts for anyone to find something. Great experience! Will go back!
Emily H — Google review
Very nice visit, the park can be walked as well as driven. Though walking offers a much better chance to see the animals. We were very lucky and saw both black bears within two hours of our arrival. (The walking route when done fully and slower to watch for the animals takes about an hour and 45 minutes).

The Alaska Zoo, located in Anchorage, AK, offers a unique opportunity to experience a variety of native Alaskan mammals and birds, as well as exotic animals like tigers and camels. The zoo is committed to wildlife conservation and provides a safe environment for families to observe and learn about different species. Situated in the Hillside neighborhood, the facility participates in rescuing injured or abandoned animals from around the state.
16 bucks for veterans. The bears alone are worth the price. It's a small zoo - you can see everything in an hour if you're quick. But they've got everything you want to see and you can get pretty close. I was 3 feet from the snow leopard and 6 feet from the black bear. Overall a nice laid-back experience.
Seth — Google review
For Alaska, The Alaska Zoo is a good stop to go if you are visiting or if you have kids here in Alaska. A fun time indeed seeing the animals and if you plan right see many attractions that they have going on. We got to watch zookeepers feed some animals just because we were there at the right time! We took our time with older kids and finished in about 2 hours to see all the exhibits. Hope you get to see the Polar Bears we didn’t 😉 The brown bears exhibit makes up for that and so much more. Posted as much as allowed! I mentioned zookeepers, any staff for that matter is kind and great here. All a big plus!!
Kenny M — Google review
During our visit to Anchorage in July, we stopped in. Very clean, reasonably priced and a chance to see Alaska wildlife, much different from our Florida zoos. We arrived at 9am during a weekday, it was not crowded, and the weather was perfect. The zoo has well maintained grounds. My grandkids enjoyed it as well. While in Anchorage, it's worth the visit.
WeeWonder M — Google review
I had a great time at the Alaska Zoo! We were able to see polar bears before they went back inside. The zoo was very green and had a lot of signage throughout. The only issue I had was with a lady allowing her 2 kids to pace the wolf enclosure, making the wolves stressed out and bite each other. I saw a sign at the ox enclosure which said “do not encourage me” and I think this may be needed with the wolf enclosure as well as they get encouraged to pace the fence with kids easily. Again, loved all I saw here! It was worth the stop during my first trip to Anchorage!
Nadia A — Google review
A small zoo , easy to walk around & every exhibit set up to easily view each animal. I hope to see the exhibits renovated into larger living spaces for the animals similar to The Tiger & wolves enclosure . Overall we enjoyed our time .
Erin D — Google review
I would totally recommend the Alaska zoo if you are in Anchorage. We took advantage of late sunset and entered the gates around 4:30PM and spent our time exploring until close. We were surprised to see animals active and moving after hours. Unfortunately couldn’t spot the polar bear but loved the otters, and harbor seal exhibit around there. The musk ox (male) seemed quite aggressive due to the mating season, beware. We saw many animals such as fox, wolves, lynx, tiger, black bears, deers, grizzlies, snow leopards and other birds like bald eagle, swans too. There were less crowds, and almost had the zoo to ourselves on a weekday. Totally recommend it to all! Plenty of parking available. Tickets can be purchased onsite!
H V — Google review
Second time here, this time in summer, much better than the dead of winter! Very friendly staff, don't forget to ask for the senior discount - only $16/day - so ma y wonderful animals, the kids loved it. Nice gift shop with very helpful cashier. Plenty of parking and restrooms. Only suggestion is to put more signs to direct people to the main attractions besides the polar bears. Also Exit arrow signs would be helpful when trying to navigate through the park when the Gkids have seen enough....LOL.
Robert P — Google review
Given the size of Alaska and ample space for parking, I was shocked how small the animal enclosures were. Aside from the polar bear habitat, everything else seemed rather small and rather basic with mostly children’s playground and other plastic toys. Sadly for me, Anchorage zoo was a let down. Due to a private encounter, the polar bears weren’t visible until the very end of our visit — so make sure to check schedules before entering if you’re hoping to get a look at these beautiful animals.

Nestled within the Chugach State Park, Eagle River Nature Center is a haven for nature enthusiasts of all ages. Originally established by volunteers in the original Visitors Center, this center offers educational outdoor recreational opportunities and promotes environmental conservation. The picturesque mountain setting is home to a network of hiking trails that lead through stunning landscapes. Just a short drive from Anchorage, visitors can enjoy wildlife viewing and educational programs about the local flora and fauna.
What a fantastic place to find on vacation! We were just looking for a scenic lookout to see the mountains and the road ended into the nature center so we decided to have a look around. The staff inside the center were all super-friendly and took the time to listen to our stories and tell their own and recommended a trail based on what we told them. A quarter mile up the trail from the nature center we came to an overlook looking over the river/marsh and there was a huge bull moose in the water munching away on whatever it could dredge up from the water. The scenery is beautiful (even without the moose). Picturesque mountains, a beaver dam, and lush forests made our hike incredible. Everything was impeccably maintained; the nature center, both boardwalks we encountered, and the trails were all perfect. And then, to top it off, our son accidentally left his favorite sweatshirt behind on one of the boardwalks when we continued our hike. We left and didn't notice it was gone. We came back 4 hours later hoping someone turned it in at the nature center. No one had so I took a quick re-hike to retrace our steps. The sweatshirt was exactly where he had left it; no one had touched it the whole time we were gone. Super-cool place and great views. Would hike again!

What an absolutely beautiful little Nature Center. Enjoy the manicure Trail. At the time of our visit the longer path was closed due to bear activity and the Salmon Run. The Beaver Pond The Overlook. The interesting Visitor Center made for a great visit. They have a few different hiking trails you can walk. The trails and very well marked making planing your hike a breeze. We really enjoyed our visit to the Eagle River Nature Center

I love this nature center! It’s a great place to walk your dog and bask in the sun while enjoying some fresh air and great views. The trails are constantly updated and maintained.

This place is a great destination for outdoor lovers, wildlife viewers, adventure seekers, hikers, campers, or even dog mushers. Small fee to park or you can buy the annual pass. Small animal exhibit inside with some souvenirs and snacks. Take the trails that lead you into the nature center but bring bear bells, bear spray, and a 10mm or higher. During the salmon runs you can run into brown bears. Be sure to check the recent bear activity signs before heading in. They update the signs for trail closures as well. The staff love their jobs and are very friendly. There are tons of programs for kids and lots of events here. Don’t miss out!

Eagle River Nature Center was a fun hike. We wanted to do Albert Loop and Rodak Trail but these were closed because of the Salmon and Bear. The one trail open was Iditarod which led down to Rapids Campsite and a peek at the water. At this point there is a small hidden path up to a bench and lookout with 360 degree view.

Kincaid Park, located near the southern end of the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail in Anchorage, is a stunning natural retreat named after former Alaska Governor Bob Kincaid. Spanning over 1,500 acres along the rugged coastline, this park offers a mix of recreational facilities and untamed wilderness. The extensive trail network covers over 40 miles and provides opportunities for activities such as hiking, trail running, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, and dog mushing during winter.
This is a very beautiful park. We went to play disc golf for our first time, everyone was very friendly and was out just enjoying the day too. People had their dogs off leash and on leash we did not have any problems with either, very well behaved. They did have Warning posted all around where a Moose just had her baby to be aware and stay away from the area. We did not run into her but others did see her and advised others not to go that way.

Kincaid Park is one of the best places in Anchorage! Beautiful trails, amazing views of Cook Inlet and the mountains, and even chances to see moose and eagles. It’s peaceful, clean, and perfect for hiking, biking, or just enjoying nature. Sunset here is absolutely stunning!

I came here to see moose and did not fail! We walked a trail 10/15 minutes and saw a male moose enjoying lunch! Free parking and entry was a huge plus. We parked near clean restrooms. Would highly recommend!

Beautiful area with lots of trails for hikers and cyclists, some fully tarmacked. Some trails lead to the beach area with great views (see picture). Many of the trails pass through dense areas of trees and the other vegetation. Please stay aware in case of bears, and particularly moose, as we saw two in under 3 miles of hiking, only perhaps 30 metres off the trail (spot the young bull in my photo).

The Alaska Aviation Museum offers a fascinating journey through the state's aviation history, showcasing over 25 vintage aircraft, a flight simulator, and a theater. Visitors can witness the restoration of historic planes and engage with knowledgeable docents who share their experiences as bush pilots. Notable exhibits include the first plane to land on Denali in the 1930s and a restored 1931 Fairchild Pilgrim aircraft.
Right outside the aviation museum are float planes taking off, landing, birthed, and being worked on. Inside the museum are some beautifully restored planes to see. Many displays to look at, both indoors and outdoors. You are able to get up close to the exhibits. You can spend some time here looking at everything.

Nice air museum. They do a nice feature on Alaska's part and battle in WWII. There is some focus on flying in the tough terrain and weather. There is a more modern Boeing you can walk inside of. There is also a watch tower you can view the lake and watch sea plans land & take off. The museum is not very big but has interesting exhibits to offer. Its price appropriately. Proximity to the airport makes it a great stop before your flight. Overall I would recommend.

Great museum, highly recommended! Three large hangers and an outside lot packed with aircraft and appurtenances with so much information. Fun for the whole family, ages 5 - 85, we all had a great time! Special shout out to Angie for taking great care of us, providing a wheelchair for grandpa and helping us find perfect souvenirs, thank you!

Fascinating museum covering many aspects of Alaska’s rich aviation history. Artifacts on display from the earliest days of Alaska aviation, Alaska’s role in WWII, civil, commercial and military aviation. Highly recommended.

Great little museum. Definitely kid friendly with multiple thinks and places for kids to play or be hands on and clear boundaries for what is not hands on or for play. Great way to spend some time as a family.

The annual fly over event on Saturday, June 29, 2025 was a very warm and beautiful day to be outside.

Awesome little museum! You can see all kinds of older airplanes and learn so much about aviation history. At the end of all the hangars, you can climb up a viewing tower and watch seaplanes take off and land right from the lake. We spent about 2 hours there and I could have easily stayed longer and read more of the info. Only thing I would change is a better labeling and titling of the written information, as it wasn't always clear how things were grouped together.

Unbelievable amount of super amazing artifacts. Great attention to the aviation battles of the Aleutian Islands in WWII, which I was not aware of. Super great staff and curation. I really didn’t know what to expect, but I walked away very satisfied. They even fired up a vintage float plane and got it airborne from Lake Hood, right behind the museum! How cool is that?!? Such a great experience. Highly recommend!

Hiking area
The Tony Knowles Coastal Trail is an 11-mile paved multi-use path that winds along the stunning coastline of the Cook Inlet, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and wildlife. It's a popular spot for walkers, runners, and bikers in the summer and becomes a playground for cross-country skiers and fat tire bikers in winter. The trail starts from downtown Anchorage and extends to Kincaid Park, with various access points along the way.
I highly recommend biking or walking the coastal trail if you have time in Anchorage. It's a very scenic trail, and you can see the sea as you walk, streams, and the occasional moose(I saw a family of them.) There is also information stands along the trail, like the salmon run & the 1964 Alaskan earthquake. If you like aviation, hiking to the section where you can see the runways of Ted Stevens airport is a must. You planes taxi, land and airplane engines starting up and roaring overhead. When starting on the trail, parking is an issue as there's not much free parking nearby, only parking meters. Got time in Anchorage? Visit this trail you won't regret it!

We started at Elderberry Park and moved onto the Chester Creek Trail. We went about 8:45am on a Thursday. The tide was out and there were several campers/homeless people near the trail but we felt safe . It’s flat and the trail was a paved surface. There were a few cyclist and a handful of walkers/runners. We thought the Chesters Creek trail was prettier

Favorite relaxed walk in town! It definitely does get a little crowded in the summer on nice days with tourists especially with bike rentals but it’s still a lovely path. You can walk, bike, run, longboard the whole trail or you can pick several spots to enter the trail and get a different experience in each spot. One of the best places to watch the sunset for sure! And sometimes you even get the rare caboose sighting! 🚂
Blissful B — Google review
It is a beautiful trail with multiple entrances, but there are way too many mosquitoes. Spotted a moose, which was very cool.
Daraksha M — Google review
The trail is 11 miles long and runs from Kincaid Park to downtown Anchorage. We walked a little bit of both ends of the trail. We saw 3 different moose, 2 cows and a bull with a full rack, in Kincad Park. The downtown end passes the Westchester Lagoon where we saw an Artic Tern dive bombing for food and a Trumpeter Swan. Beautiful area. Here's what I wish we had known about the trail. Ebikes are available on the north end in downtown but not in Kincaid Park on the south end. We enjoyed our walk but we could have seen the whole trail if we had known where to get bikes.
Craig W — Google review
Nice trail but more for biking than hiking. Walked a couple miles and not great views and too many bikes to be enjoyable. My mistake not knowing more before we headed out. Wouldn't make this a destination if you are in Alaska for a week or two-way better places to spend your time

The Alaska Railroad is a state-owned-and-operated system with a single track and route connecting Seward in the south to Fairbanks in the north, covering about 400 miles. Travelers praise the friendly staff, comfortable seating, and scenic views on the Coastal train from Anchorage to Seward. Some recommend upgrading to gold-star service for an even more spectacular experience with glass dome cars.
Information could be better, as we arrived with no indication of which order to do things and were told varying information. When traveling to Whittier to cruise with NCL, there is a not mandatory but simple order of operation. Drop luggage with the porters under the canopy who load the baggage into trucks and then drive it to the ship and load it for you. The next time you see the bags will be in the room. Then go inside the building to retrieve you ticket even though you bought it online. Seats are pre-assigned and are listed on your ticket. The seats are comfortable and spacious enough. The ride is slow but has great views. There is a food and drink car as well as restrooms. Very enjoyable way to travel.

Book this!! This was my first train ride and I think I have ruined any other train ride. We took the trip to Seward during the summer and it was awesome. I think we did the perfect combo also so let me share. We booked the gold start on the way to Seward so we got the better view and breakfast with drinks in the morning. Then we booked the basic tickets on the way back. Because there were far less people on the way back we were able to walk around and even hand out in the back completely alone for a good about of time. Hopefully this works for other people. Regardless of how you do it I think it's a amazing trip.
Doug R — Google review
I gotta say this is probably the best train experience you will have in the US. Amazing views, practically an entire fully guided tour, and just really nice genuine employees. I loved the Gold Star car. With everyone getting two included drinks, people got very friendly! I’m knocking off one star for two reasons. 1) My foot rest would not move. I could not put any bag on the floor in front of me because of it. I kept smashing my shins into it as well. It was not comfortable at all for someone my height - 6’3. The only consolation I was offered was for them to store my backpack in the bar area. It was better than nothing. But I wish they had provided some amount of compensation for the discomfort. About 3/4 of the way through, the entire car started smelling very badly. Like a port-a-potty had overflowed or something. It was absolutely disgusting. Many people were complaining about it. Y’all might want to check out your sewage situation.

Alaska Railroad Review – Gold Star Class Experience We had an absolutely amazing experience with the Alaska Railroad and their tour services. From the very beginning, the customer service stood out — we live in Florida and spent close to two hours on the phone customizing our trip. The staff was patient, knowledgeable, and eager to help us create the perfect itinerary. We chose to upgrade to Gold Star Class, and it was worth every penny. Meals on the train were included, along with unlimited soft drinks and two alcoholic beverages per person for each leg of the journey. The food was surprisingly good, and every staff member we encountered was friendly, professional, and clearly passionate about what they do. Our route took us from Anchorage to Seward and Talkeetna, with periodic returns to Anchorage. We spent two nights in Talkeetna and loved every moment. The excursions we booked through Alaska Railroad were fantastic and perfectly coordinated with our travel schedule. They truly excel at helping guests customize their adventures. We did encounter one small hiccup when weather prevented us from completing part of a glacier plane landing excursion. Initially, the refund didn’t appear on our credit card statement, but after one quick call to Alaska Railroad, they contacted the excursion provider and the refund was processed within four hours. That level of responsiveness really impressed us. Overall, this is truly an A+ operation. The scenery was breathtaking, the service outstanding, and the whole trip felt seamless. I would highly recommend Alaska Railroad to anyone looking to experience the magic of Alaska in comfort and style.

Comfortable seating with plenty of leg room even in Adventure Class, can carry on a backpack or small suitcase. Can move about and between train cars and go to observation car. Stunning views and great live tour guides pointing out POIs.

Rode the Halloween train last year and plan on doing it this year. Everything appeared to be fine however the glass windows were slightly foggy, the non Halloween venders/performers were short with attitude along with slightly condescending demeanors when talking to customers. If you can get past that, it was a very fun trip with the kids.

This lake is a special place! Visited here recently and all I can say is WOW! I've visited Crater Lake in Oregon, and I can say that this lake is much more special than Crater Lake! It is quiet and the awesome part is it is off of the highway, and the noise level is next to none. I highly recommend coming to visit this lake! It's the best lake I've ever visited!

Eklutna lake was amazing, we ended up only walking for about 8 miles total, but there was so much more to explore! They have bike and kayak rentals. Some parts of the trail have been effected by erosion, so be careful close to the edge of the trail closest to the water. We didn’t see any big wildlife but saw a huge bear paw print in some fresh mud!

While this was an awesome experience and the Roundhouse museum was neat I'm not sure we got our money's worth with the tram. I don’t know how this state park got anything less than 5 stars but it is definitely worth your time. Accessibility can be the only thing I can think of. The state park is huge and a big portion of it isn’t accessible. The parts that are, are absolutely stunning. Multiple hiking trails, camping areas, picnics, photo opportunities, and scenic views throughout. If you like the outdoors and stunning scenery, this park has what you’re looking for. You can do almost anything here as there are ample hunting and fishing locations. This is a photographers dream! The nature center in Eagle River tops it off as the best state park I e ever been in. I visit here as often as I can.

Chugach State Park is a stunning natural expanse surrounding Anchorage, encompassing over 495,000 acres of rugged mountains, glaciers, alpine lakes, and dense forests. Its proximity to the city makes it both accessible and wild, offering photographers and outdoor enthusiasts a chance to experience Alaska’s dramatic landscapes without venturing deep into remote backcountry. The park’s trails cater to all levels, from short scenic hikes to challenging climbs such as Flattop Mountain, which rewards visitors with sweeping panoramas of Anchorage, Turnagain Arm, and the surrounding Chugach Range. Lakes and rivers throughout the park provide reflections of snow-capped peaks, creating spectacular compositions for landscape photography. Wildlife abounds, including moose, bears, eagles, and mountain goats, giving photographers opportunities for wildlife shots in a natural setting. Seasonal changes dramatically transform the park: winter blankets the peaks and trails in snow, summer brings vibrant wildflowers and verdant forests, and autumn paints the valleys in rich golds and reds. Chugach State Park is a perfect blend of accessibility, rugged wilderness, and photographic potential, making it an essential destination for capturing the essence of Alaska’s majestic beauty.

We had such a delightful time together, walking on the garden paths and exploring the gardens! So much beauty and color to see everywhere you look! Peonies, those stunning beauties and my personal favorite, are showcasing their blooms, encouraging visits from bees 🐝 happy to oblige! While still other varieties of peonies are just thinking about budding. Many Star Gazers are out, as are the delicate and colorful Columbine. The ever magnificent Chocolate Lilies would not go unnoticed! So much vibrancy and greenery here! This was my first time exploring the gardens at this time of year> mid June. H2Oasis Indoor Waterpark in Anchorage offers a year-round tropical island experience, allowing visitors to escape the freezing weather and enjoy a variety of water activities. The park features attractions for all ages, including a Kiddies Pool, wave pool, lazy river tube ride, and thrilling slides for teens and adults. As one of the largest indoor waterparks in Alaska, it provides a rare amusement opportunity in Anchorage with its diverse aquatic adventures.
We had such a blast both times we went even though one of the smaller slides and the wave pool weren't working and were under construction. Only had a couple hours to swim but it was well worth it!!

It’s like a plunge, community pool, the price is OVERPRICED I’m from Arizona and they don’t even charge 30$ per person. There was bandaids everywhere kind of unsanitary, there are 3 slides only two open or one open at a time. The parking is limited only like 10 spots half of which I’m sure the lifeguards take The girls at the desk were nice to my mother though

The most amazing and only water park in Alaska (please correct me if I am wrong) At first glance, it sort of feels like this business is stingy. The prices are high, there's no longer a home school discount, more than half the attractions are closed down at any given moment.... The truth is I am not sure how this business has survived so long. I remember a few years back (maybe 2015 to 2018), this place was gross and rusty. Now it's still a bit aged but someone has put a lot of love into bringing life and a feel of luxury to this water park. How do they afford all the costs associated with running this business on the small amount that they charge? This to the owner / manager if you reach out to me, I will introduce you to people I know who can give you grants to keep your business running, maybe to hire and train at risk teens, maybe to have school programs especially for low income students on water safety and even environmental protection.

It's fun place kids enjoyed it. It could use some love and care, but for the most part the kids don't mind, honestly kids just want to play in the water period. We will definitely be coming again.

Overall, it was a little spendy for not having all the rides running while we were there for the afternoon. There is a pretty nice toddler section that our little guy enjoyed. They also gave him his own floaty for the lazy river which he loved.

My kids love H2oasis. From the kiddie pool to the master blaster, orange slide, hot tub, wave pool, lazy river, etc… My kids are always excited to visit. Today I’m reminded of when my then 3 yo had a bday party here and fast fwd he is now 12. My 5 yo excitedly tells the owner today it’s her bday and he lets her in for free. I love this Alaskan spirit. It reminds me of the same AK spirit when someone has car trouble on the side of the road and 3-4 cars pull over to help. Yes, the place could use some paint but really who cares? The kids certainly don’t. They’re too busy having fun,-making memories—and that’s all that matters. Thanks H2oasis for continuing to stay open.

When we first walked in I looked up and immediately was greeted with moldy roof and then lower towards the front door theres mold on the wall. A but disappointed this place has gone downhill over the years since its been open. It opened in 2003 and its nothing like it was years after opening. My daughters enjoy it and most kids and families do but the cost 💲50.00 for both my daughters is pricey for a water park that doesn't have all things working and the company needs to spend a legit month deep cleaning and maintenance of their building. My daughters went up the stairs to the slide and I walked over there and saw the stairs just rusting away and rust chips everywhere on the platform. 1 star ⭐️ for the sake that my kids had fun but its very dirty and needs maintenance and deep cleaning and that takes time and effort.

Most of my experience with H2O Oasis has been with me taking my children to toddler time years ago. We haven't been in about 5 years. We went last week and had a great time. The kids loved it and we went to experience the entire water park. Everything was fine, the only thing that was frustrating was that we paid full price to enjoy the whole water park and we got there at noon and none of the slides were open. I was frustrated paying full price to not have the slides open, but they informed me they'd be open at 1:00. Then they said they'd open one slide at 1:00, then at 1:30 or 2:00 they would open another slide, and it sounded like they were going to rotate which ones were open. I was a bit frustrated that only one slide was going to be open when we paid for all of them, but they gave a weird excuse about power or something, I got wondering if it was because they were low on employees or since a lot of people weren't there in the afternoon maybe to save on water they only open one slide at a time. I have to admit I was pretty grumpy, but once we got in there, having one slight open at a time was fine. The place was pretty empty so we weren't waiting in line long, and the kids would focus on one slide for an hour, then focus on another slide for an hour, then jump into the lazy river and such. It worked out great. It was fun and the kids had a blast.

Natural History Museums
The Alaska Museum of Science and Nature in Anchorage offers an exciting exploration of Alaska's natural history, featuring dinosaur fossils and interactive displays for children. The museum is a flagship destination for natural history enthusiasts, with captivating exhibits including a full-sized pterosaur replica, an extensive collection of rocks and fossils, and a massive beluga whale skeleton.
Me and my wife went there on our honeymoon, and we are big museum buffs. I can say without a doubt, that this is one of the best Paleontology Museums we've ever been too, and we live near the DC Smithsonian. This museum is very informative, and breaks down the information in a very digestive way. Has a great balance of interactive, and non interactive exhibits. It also had a lot of things I've only ever heard about, and seeing them first and was spectacular. The host at the front desk was also very sweet and kind!

A smaller museum but a nice collection. My tween and I spent about an hour and a half there

Nice science center and fun for the kids. The staff here are friendly and very helpful. My family and I came here on a field trip and were given scavenger hunts to complete for a smell prize. The kids loved it. Highly recommend taking the family here for a visit. The only downside is it’s small, but worth the trip.
Michael — Google review
I visited this museum back in January. It was a really cool collection. I haven't been to many museums that are quite so interactive. I enjoyed how many of the exhibits were specifically relevant to Alaska and its history while also relating to wider natural history. It's a relatively small museum but is 100% worth the stop! The care of the people who curate the collection is evident.
Luke S — Google review
Took my 3yr old here, who is learning about dinosaurs. He loved the younger scavenger hunt and treasure! They packed allot into a small space. Even know it seems small we weirdly spent 2 hours here. They have dig pits and shelves of toys that are either creative play or museum themed. Wonderful use of time. Will come again.

Super cute place to take children! It's small but reasonably priced for what they offer with a friendly staff and nice gift shop.

A very fun museum! Expect to spend about an hour or two here depending on your interest. Great for the littles. Lots of bones / fossils/ replicas and a cute little gift shop. An area for younger kids to sit and play. A small museum with easy parking and a restroom.
Ryan J — Google review
Small but dense. Very few original fossils, but many excellent recreations/castings. Very good taxidermy. A little disorganized, and signage was often poor and hard to read, but worth the price of admission, especially for younger kids who will enjoy the density of content.

Byron Glacier is a must-visit destination near Anchorage, Alaska. You can easily drive to the Byron Glacier Trailhead and take a short hike to reach the glacier. The trail is mostly flat and about 3/4 mile long, leading you through avalanche debris and a scenic stream. While the terrain gets rocky, it's an accessible hike with proper footwear. Many hikers love this trail for its stunning ice cave, which is absolutely worth seeing.
Beautiful hike. Not too difficult for the novice hiker.
Melinda G — Google review
Easy access to a glacier. This was the highlight of our trips because we felt like we were immersed in between the mountains and the glaciers. I highly recommend this hike. It's very easy not hilly and anyone can do it if I can do it. We stayed for a while and just absorbed the ambience.
D J — Google review
Byron Lake Trail is a great hike for those who want to experience Alaska’s natural beauty. The trail is well marked but can be a bit steep in places closer to the glacier pool, so good shoes are a must. The reward at the end is an alpine lake that’s simply breathtaking. Perfect spot for photos, a picnic, or just soaking up the mountain air. It rained all through the hike…. So we had the trail for ourselves and it was a great experience overall!!
H V — Google review
LOVED this hike. About 1.5rt or so, pretty easy start, only harder part is getting through the rock field, either climb over or walk around through the water. The ice cave is absolutely stunning to see!
LeeAnna B — Google review
Just as beautiful in the winter. One of the bigger caves has a partially frozen creek. I drank from it and was delicious. The hike was a little rough but totally worth it. There’s ice climbing to be had.
Cara H — Google review
First time to a glacier and it was an awesome experience to say the least! It was a nice and easy hike up, and there were plenty of people around but not too many. We hiked up the glacier and slide down like we were kids again! There was a kid who climbed all the way to the top, and onlookers we passed by thought he was a bear climbing up to slide down the glacier… bears would not do that btw. They even let you drink beers there!
Tyler N — Google review
Go past portage gift shop, on the right, hike up a couple easy miles hike on glacier and play in the snow mid summer, before its gone! Excellent free trip!
Bryan B — Google review
This is a beautiful, easy hike that is mostly flat. We went later in the day so we didn’t make it all the way to the glacier, but the 3/4 mile hike to the avalanche debris and stream was nice. From the trailhead to this part is smooth gravel, then the terrain gets very rocky so wear appropriate footwear.

Potter Marsh, located in the Anchorage Coastal Wildlife Refuge in South Anchorage, offers a leisurely walk on well-maintained boardwalks with opportunities for wildlife viewing and photography. The right-hand boardwalk provides excellent fish viewing, especially during midsummer when various salmon species can be seen. Families will find it a friendly place to visit, with easy parking and ample photo opportunities along the way.
This was an excellent stop on the way to Seward. We only had 20 mins to explore but it had a boardwalk that made it easy for a low mobility person in our party able to enjoy the beauty. Although we did not see the moose we heard frequents this area we did see an eagle with the eaglets. There were benches you can rest on the way around the marsh if needed.
Vanessa S — Google review
We went there this summer and it was a perfect activity to do with the family. Parking was easy, not too congested at all. The condition of the walkway was well-maintained and we were able to stop along the way for a lot of photo opportunities. We even ran into a bird watching couple that helped us locate a bald eagle's nest using the built-in magnifying viewers. It's best to go on a clear day so you can get views on the mountain range as a gorgeous backdrop for your photos. Also bring your reading glasses because there are a fair amount of educational signage.

Earthquake Park in Anchorage, Alaska, is a 134-acre area that bears witness to the devastating 1964 earthquake. The park offers trails and an interpretive display that educates visitors about the impact of the powerful earthquake. It's a prime spot to view the downtown skyline and features several memorials commemorating the event. The park provides a five-mile hike through wooded areas, creeks, and other destinations while offering relaxing rest spots along the way.
A beautiful park that provides a window on local history, geology, and the site of the the largest earthquake in North America in 1964. There is plenty of informative signage and trail paths that follow the landslides. This is also a great place to take pics of Denali and the Alaska range. I was told there might be wildlife there - saw plenty of moose droppings but no moose! While I was there in the winter, I saw plenty of people cycling, running and I have hear that you can also cross country skiing as the park connects to the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail. Probably a great place for a picnic in the summer as well! There are a few parking areas for cars and buses. Definitely a place worth checking out!
Christian N — Google review
It's a beautiful location. People go out there to take pictures of sunsets all the time. The pictures I post here will not be Earthquake Park but just the next parking lot down the road. There are plenty of places to park

Mr. Moose was waiting at the entrance when we arrived! It was our last day in Alaska and we were on the way to the airport. It was also our last hope to see a moose in the wild. How lucky we were! He was about 20 feet away from us, munching away and hanging around. The best time and the perfect day.

Earthquake Park gives visitors insight into one of the pivotal moments in Alaska history: the 1964 Earthquake. The quake on March 27 – Good Friday – measured 9.2 in magnitude and was the largest quake ever recorded in North America. This is a great place to visit. There are plenty of walking and biking trails as well as free parking. There is a monument commemorating the 1964 earthquake as well as informational plaques in the park. It overlooks the water and offers beautiful, majestic views. A great place to visit. A must if you’re visiting Anchorage.

This is a free public park monumenting the great earthquake of 1964 in Anchorage. After a half century you can still see how the area changed. Easy paved walking paths, also part of the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail. You will see locals running, biking, and walking thru here. It's an interesting point of interest. There's a parking lot at the trail head with ample parking. There are no restrooms facilities here. This area is beautiful and peaceful.

Here you can see what it means when our planet shakes for 4+ minutes- and the soil liquifies underneath ones house. OMG. Even today, 2025, how bad it slid is still easily seen from the tour bus. One no longer needs to get out of the bus. However, if you do- check out the picks- so worth it.

Great walk in the park and nature. You can look back in time and see how the surface of the earth rolled during the great earthquake of 1964. Eye opening and thank goodness I was not there at that moment. You’ll be educated too as you walk along and pass different stations.

Crow Creek Gold Mine, located in Girdwood, Alaska, is a well-preserved historic gold-mining camp established in 1896. The picturesque property offers a self-guided walking tour with well-maintained historic buildings and relics from the mining era. Visitors can experience life as a prospector from the early 1900s by panning for gold, riding in a gold mine train, and learning about the challenges faced by early explorers.
This is the best gold mine I experienced so far in 14 years of residency in Alaska. The buildings are so well maintained, like walking into history, lots of information and facts. Staff and residents are very welcoming and friendly and helpful, and they are nestled away in the serenity. Gold panning was such a great experience with my twins that we will be visiting every year. Camping and optional dry cabins for rent nightly great place!!!
Miranda M — Google review
The flowers and scenery were gorgeous. We loved walking around the grounds and taking a trip back in time. I would definitely come again! We didn't pan for gold but saw several people doing it. It's worth the trip just for the flowers.
Lindsay C — Google review
This was a fantastic little stop. Gold panning was a fun experience but you get a sense of how hard this life was. The historic village was by far the most interesting part and if you have kids, there’s an area near the front for them to play games. Well worth the time and money to see.
Alan Y — Google review
This was a very fun experience. The original buildings were like a time warp. Walking down to the creek, panning for gold, and just listening to the water flow was a perfect afternoon for us. You might not find nuggets of gold and just end up with a flake or two, but it's like being transported back in time to a place you've only heard about in history books and stories.
Joel K — Google review
This location is BEAUTIFUL! My kids had a ball panning for gold, and I had a ball taking pictures around the property. There's a dozen adorable old fashioned houses, complete with antique furniture and furnishings. Flowers are *everywhere* and they were beautiful! The river is picturesque, with lots of adventurous places for kids to dig and try their luck. My son was in heaven! We all had a great time!

We went to visit Crow Creek Mine and the entire experience was absolutely amazing! The staff is super friendly, informative, and helpful, the landscape is breathtaking, and the experience was all around wonderful. This was a super quaint corner, tucked into the valleys of the mountain. Even the drive there was beautiful. Highly HIGHLY recommend to anybody wanting “the Alaskan gold panning” experience.
Isabelle L — Google review
We came here for the kids to pan for gold. The pay dirt had flakes of gold in it do they all got to experience finding gold in their pans. There are beautiful old mining buildings with plenty of history. The kids only found one other flake in the river in an hour, but they still had fun. The gardens are beautiful. There are campgrounds for small RVs for nightly use without hookup if you would like to stay away from the busy campgrounds.
James L — Google review
Took the kids here to have them learn what panning for gold truly entailed. While we found only specs of gold, it was worth the adventure and gave them a better appreciation of what a hard living gold panning was. No guarentee you will find any gold in the creek. Friendly dog and cat on premise. Cool little museum town to explore, lots of hiking, camping space (no hook-ups). The drive to/from the mine is interesting. The views are great also.

Ship Creek in downtown Anchorage, Alaska is a unique urban king salmon fishery where locals often rush after work to try their luck at catching these prized fish, which can weigh over 30 pounds. The area has historical significance as it was first settled during the construction of the Alaska Railroad in 1915. Ship Creek offers a convenient escape from the city's hustle and bustle, allowing anglers to cast for king or silver salmon within sight of office high-rises.
Biden’s inflated economy and high gas prices led my son and me to fish here more; and as a result we have had some good times here. Disclaimer: no bait was used to catch the fish pictured below in the photo's. Democrats inflated economy has driven up the prices at the local bait shack so hooks and beads must suffice.

I have been fishing this creek every summer for the last 10 years. I love it! 5 minutes from work. 10 minutes from home. Over the years I have learned how to ease myself into the crowd at the popular spots and when/where else to go when the crowd is too dense. Beside a few inconsiderate actors every now and then, the creek provides the best place to catch king salmon, silver salmon, and a lot of pinks in a city. It's nice to always have a crowd fishing the creek. It's saddening to see people trashing the place as well....

March 12 2025 good conditions for spring break! Great place to learn and practice. 2 of the 3 terrain parks were open for skilled skiers/boarders. The instructors even teach in the terrain parks! Of the six ski resorts I have been to, this is the first one where I have seen instructors in the terrain parks. 20 minute uber ride from downtown Anchorage! Super convenient and super affordable. $47 lift ticket and $80 boots/board/helmet rental. We could not pass up the opportunity to ski during our Alaskan vacation. I was surprised that a non-profit ski place exists. They have everything big expensive resorts have. They sell warm gear and goggles if you forget yours. They have the best hot chocolate, beer, and free water. The cheeseburger, grilled cheese, chili cheese dog, and brownie were all delicious. The staff is all cheerful, kind, and efficient. The equipment rentals, food service, retail, lift operators, and ticket sales were all positive, upbeat, and motivated. Wish we lived closer so we could ski here weekly ❤️

Great place, good food and drinks. The area is absolutely beautiful. We went on a Friday night to listen to live music and it was really fun. My only complaint would be kids in the 21 and over section. As an adult it's frustrating to go out and you can't find a place to sit in the only area where alcohol is allowed because it's half full with children. I get parents want to be able have drink too but if your looking for a night out with drinking and socializing, maybe get a babysitter.

I am from Florida and know absolutely nothing about skiing. I signed up for a beginner ski lesson and I am so glad I did! I was greeted by a very nice gentleman that explained everything to me. I was super nervous and he assured me that everything would be fine. My lesson was on 12/21/24 at 1:30. The person at the top of the conveyer belt at the bunny slope deserves a special thank you. Every time I went up, he gave me a fist bump along with some encouragement. His enthusiasm was just outstanding. Throughout the lesson, the first gentlemen that greeted me, came to check on everyone…making sure we were all having a good time. Our instructor was really patient with us. I would highly recommended this place for a first time skier. I felt like a pro by the end of it. I really wish I knew the names of the man that greeted me and the boy at the top of the bunny hill. Both of these employees deserve some recognition. They made my day! Thank you for that! I can tell they really love their job. I will definitely be back!!

Fun trails. (From top to bottom is approximately 1 mile) First time doing downhill and I'm 60. Had a hard time loading my bike so just ask the chair attendant to load, they are very friendly. Also when you get to the top there is a cool trail on the other side of the trail map sign. Go to the right and it takes you on a very cool trail. It's not part of the park but drops you back into the parking area. It's kind of technical, but I took my time. Also if you're not fast, make sure to pull off trail to let others pass.

Wonderful experience with John... was well worth the money and time spent. In fact, another hour or half day tour would be great. Learned so much and he was so efficient / filled the time well. Highly recommend the deluxe tour (or longer) if offered! Can't wait to visit again to see more of Alaska... my new favorite place outside of the Sierra Nevada in CA.

It was enjoyable to learn about the history and fun facts about Anchorage. Highly recommend doing the deluxe tour over the one hour tour that's offered.

This was a great way to explore Anchorage while my grandsons were in school. It was a little misty, soft rain that morning, but we had squeegee’s for our windows and the operator was wonderful. I was just visiting this time and I learned a lot more than I thought I would about Anchorage. Our guide knew exactly what to say. Had a wonderful speaking voice and quite informed. Thank you for making my day.

When in Anchorage you must do this one hour ride. They have two options- the one hour or the 1.5-2 hour ride. I recommend the one hour ride. It is VERY informative, fun and you get to know Anchorage a lot more. The history of the earthquake, how the name came about, the undergrund house, the high school with the history, etc. A fun way to see Anchorage and know about its history, totally a must do!!!

Very informational, fun tour for the entire family. Our guide was super friendly. You get to learn about the history of Anchorage, 1964 earthquake, Moose calls, etc. Highly recommend it. You don’t walk at the places with $25 ticket. If you are interested in longer version of this tour, it would cost you $50. So, plan and book appropriately.

There was only one brief stop for photos - so check to see if the two hours allows for more photo stops. As a travel designer it’s important that I experience tours of this nature. Happy to share that this tour provides a quick, informative and interesting perspective on Anchorage and one you are sure to enjoy.

The one hour tour is great value! My friends who did it shared interesting facts with me that weren't mentioned on my tour and they got to see moose! However, I did the Deluxe Tour since there would be more time for taking photos. I'm not sure it was worth twice the cost overall. I was sad to not see any moose. Nice to know that restrooms/portapotties were available at most stops. Tips: Mondays are slow days for watching seaplanes/float planes. Weekends are best. Mosquitos love Earthquake Park.

Ace was a wonderful tour guide and we enjoyed our tour immensely. He volunteered to take pictures for us at every stop. He told great stories of the history and all the locals. We enjoyed watching the fishermen from the bridge and being able to kind of see Mt McKinley in the distance and all the other stops!

Thunderbird Falls is a popular 200-ft. waterfall located in Chugach State Park, Alaska. The trail to the falls offers immediate natural beauty with waterfalls and views of snow-capped mountains. While it's a quick and easy hike, access to the park requires a day pass. The trail is known for its tranquility, as crowds are seldom overwhelming.
Excellent trailhead, very easy to walk. I recommend going down to the waterfall. The water is clean and feels very nice on the feet. The "Steep Cliff" signs with a picture of someone backflipping off are an interesting choice of signage. I definitely do not recommend backflipping off the cliff; it is very high and the water is very shallow and full of rocks.
Jack M — Google review
Well maintained trail, good view points of the canyon and falls. There is a side trail to the bottom of the falls. Visited mid October and trail was in good condition without much mud.
Zach H — Google review
Easy hike to the falls. I visited in October so I was lucky to experience the fall. It is a nice and well-maintained path to the falls. You can also see the houses or neighborhoods along with the trail. Falls was nice and since it was not crowded, I could enjoy it peacefully. You also have a way to go down closer to the falls.
Mohit G — Google review
This was a moderate hike as far as the incline went, but well worth it. Its absolutely beautiful the entire way, You did need to pay in the parking lot (5) also well worth it.
Alisha W — Google review
Easy to moderate hike, depending on your fitness level. The first part of the hike is a little steep, but not too bad. The views and scenery along the trail make it worth it. Definitely make your way to the waterfall look out at the end of the trail and work your way down to the creek and the base of the falls. Footing can be slippery / muddy along the creek so you may want to wear shoes that have some traction and that you don’t mind getting muddy. You don’t need special hiking shoes for this trail, though they certainly wouldn’t be a bad option. You can walk the entire trail in less than an hour - but take your time and enjoy the scenery.
Chris K — Google review
After the epic fail at South Fork Falls Trail, we headed to Thunder Bird Falls Trail. It's $5 to get in unless you have an annual parks pass, then it's free. Even though this hike is extremely popular, we weren't that thrilled with it. It's about 2 miles round trip with lots of ups and downs for the elevation. It's doable for all ages, but if you hate elevation like me, you'll be a little bit slower than the other folks who are quick on their feet. We didn't do the Creek Trail, but did enjoy the overlook of the falls. The reason for the 5 stars though is because we met an awesome group of people that we ended up joining them at Odd Man Rush Brewery after, which I recommend.
Nomad L — Google review
You will not go wrong hiking this trail!! It was nice and easy and beautiful! The waterfall is breathtaking. Do it go outside and just take it all in!!
Shelia J — Google review
Very easy. I walked both options (to the viewing platform and down to the waterside) in regular sandals with a back strap; no special hiking gear from an outfitter. People of a wide range of shapes, sizes and footwear (minus heels) were on the trail. I didn’t have any issues with mosquitoes because I sprayed with repellent first, but other visitors were fighting them off. I recommend stopping at a bathroom nearby before going to the trailhead because the restrooms are clearly not maintained. Too gross to upload a photo but to give you some idea, I used a restroom at a gas station instead of the restrooms at the trailhead parking lot. The parking lot is not large and there were many vehicles, so some people parked roadside. The trail itself is decently maintained. There are no rails at some of the steep edges so it would not be a good idea to let children or dogs run unsupervised.

Nestled just south of Anchorage, the Potter Marsh Wildlife Viewing Boardwalk is a hidden gem for nature enthusiasts and wildlife lovers alike. This 1,550-foot elevated walkway meanders through a stunning salt marsh that serves as a vibrant habitat for over 130 bird species, including majestic bald eagles. As you stroll along the boardwalk, keep your eyes peeled for moose and even bears roaming nearby.
Absolutely beautiful! Huge Boardwalk that extends out into Potter's Marsh and a great walk. You may see a bald eagle and other types of birds and even moose. There is a drainage area from the Cook Inlet into the marsh where you may see salmon swimming. Great views of the Chugach mountains. The boardwalk extends in multiple directions and has informational signs on wildlife. Plan at least an hour to walk the entire Boardwalk Wheelchair accessible.

Neat place to walk the boardwalk and look at the wildlife. Elevated wooden boardwalk weaves above the marsh area with creeks, wildlife, birds, and more flourishing. Gorgeous pictures on our late September visit. Loved the information plaques they had around! You can walk through whole thing at a chill pace in less than 1.5 hours.
Amy C — Google review
Potter Marsh is an easy stop just outside Anchorage—and totally worth it. The boardwalk gives you a fantastic panoramic view of the marsh with the bay and mountains in the background. Classic Alaska. While we were there, we spotted a whole family of moose—dad was hanging near the road as we left the parking lot, and mom and baby were walking through a clearing on the other side. A perfect blend of peaceful scenery and real wildlife action. If you’re headed south from Anchorage, make time for this one.
Coby H — Google review
Lots of spider webs/cob webs everywhere but nice scenery and board walk. There are stationary binoculars you don’t have to pay to use, and you can look really close at the ducks and local birds
Emma W — Google review
It's well worth the drive, especially for the great views. I got lots of great pictures while I was here. The boardwalk is fun for sure. There's also easy access to the highway, which is good.
Ben H — Google review
Beautiful area near Anchorage where you can view wildlife. We only saw birds on the day we went but it was mid-day and larger animals had likely retreated back to the woods. The boardwalk let you walk above the marsh and we saw geese, eagles and their nests, a and other various species. Earlier in the day mooseand bear had been listed as having been seen but we were not that fortunate. Definitely worth a visit when in Alaska but go early.
David C — Google review
Easy board walk with beautiful views and a variety of wildlife and nature. You never know what you will find. Today i saw Sandhill cranes, salmon, and a juvenile bald eagle sweeping the field and flying right over us.

We went on a Friday, it was still fun, but apparently there’s less than half the usual vendors. The pictures below show the huge empty area that is supposed to be full! We were disappointed at how few stalls there were. There were maybe 20 in all, and for a long while we were the only buyers, which might explain the lack of booths. It was mostly jewelry, with a smattering of antler art and t shirts and a few (overpriced) food vendors. They said Saturday is the best day, I’d definitely go then if you can!
Sheri M — Google review
Wow, they've really run this straight into the ground. It's not even a glimpse of what used to be. Not a single vegetable, pickle or any market stuff. Just cheap Chinese crap with two food vendors. Embarrassing.
Thehuston — Google review
Readi g the details on the website I expected there to be more booths. I think perhaps because of the rain while we were there many vendors didn't show up. There are some local artists and makers, and some items that also seem mass produced.
Angela S — Google review
It is always a treat to visit this rain or shine. So much to say but I'll sum it up with photos.
Matt H — Google review
Went on a Saturday, and it wasn't near as large as most of the descriptions made it appear. Quite a few craft vendors, with some being local and others selling mass-produced goods. It has a pretty good selection of food trucks and stands at pretty high prices. Not much in the way of produce or fresh goods, especially produce.
Jay W — Google review
This market is huge which is nice but unfortunately there aren't many booths for local produce. There are many booths for things like crafts, jewelry, photography, knives etc, and lots of food vendors, but it's not much of a "farmer's market". Seems like it's more geared toward tourists looking for Alaskan souvenirs.

Visitors can take advantage of loaner backpacks filled with intriguing items for exploration and benefit from the expertise of the knowledgeable staff who are dedicated to igniting children's sense of adventure.
We went for a school field trip. Brad was our guide for the day. Brad was engaging and really spoke to the kids on their level. Every activity was centered around the kids and their age group. He did his best to keep their attention while also educating them, not only about the different animals and habitats, but the safety precautions we need to take as visitors and fellow conservationists. The trails were clear and well maintained, and signs were posted along the trail as to where we were allowed to walk safely. Dogs are allowed on leash, but there were a couple not leashed but very respectful. We also saw people riding bikes on the trails - very cool. We can not wait to return with our family to explore further! That's a "Brad Promise"

Kids were entertained for the entire time and got lots of energy out. Fun games, and nature related activities that were fun for the kiddos and educational. What an amazing experience. Mooses Tooth Pub & Pizzeria is a vibrant and bustling hangout in Alaska, offering inventive pizzas and house-brewed beer. The menu features a variety of gourmet stone-baked pizzas with an array of toppings, from classic to funky. Locally sourced ingredients are used to create each pie from scratch, ensuring top-notch quality. The pub's own brewery, Broken Tooth Brewing, produces popular ales like the Fairweather IPA that pair perfectly with their flavorful pizzas.
Super busy pizza spot, and for good reason! The beer and pizza is delicious. We got half of the special (Herakles) and half was brewhouse pizza. Both sides were packed full of toppings and cooked perfectly. The bread sticks were also amazing. We left perfectly satisfied.

Amazing!!! Recommended by 2 Uber drivers. Pizza is amazing. Love the creative flavor profiles and the classic pepperoni. The desserts were a delight. Rachel took care of us. Loved the whole experience. Yum! 10/10 recommend.

Pizza was excellent, and their rotational cocktail (strawberry based during our visit) was a pleasant surprise. The Hungarian mushroom was also really good. When we told friends and family we were traveling to Alaska, there was a common theme: go to Moose's Tooth! We had to cut our trip here short for an emergency, but had a few hours in Anchorage. We decided to have a lunch here and we're not disappointed! While the food and beer are definitely off the charts, the people are what makes this place so amazing. Julia was our server and really brightened our day in a way we can't even describe. Her energy boosted our spirits while the amazing food nourished our souls. I wish we could take this place back with us to Texas. It will forever be on our hearts.

A very busy place! Was told it would be a 40 minute wait. Love that you can grab a drink and wait on the patio around the fire pit while you wait. The wait ended up only being 20 minutes. Our waitress was very friendly. Loved that they do 1/2 &1/2 pizzas. We tried the carnivore, the classic, call of the wild and chicken bacon ranch. The pizza crust is very good! The chicken bacon ranch was our least favorite. The root beer is crisp and delicious! Tried the pineapple upside cheesecake was disappointed that it lacked pineapple flavor. Overall would recommend and come back!
Lindsey — Google review
This place lives up to the hype—and then some. We tried three different pizzas, each totally unique and absolutely delicious. From bold flavor combos to perfectly chewy crusts, every slice was a win. The menu is full of creative options, and honestly, it was hard to choose (not a bad problem to have). Each pizza brought something different to the table, and there wasn’t a single bite we didn’t love. It’s easy to see why this place is a local favorite. Great vibes, fun atmosphere, and pizza that’ll haunt your dreams in the best way. Pro tip: Come hungry and bring friends so you can try more than one!

Dinner on a weeknight, seated after a very short wait. I had heard about Moose’s Tooth before even arriving in Alaska so I knew I had to try them! I was not disappointed! Ordered a pizza for the table to enjoy and it met expectations. The crust was perfectly cooked and the toppings were fresh and flavorful. Our server was friendly and attentive. Already planning a return visit before departing Alaska! I highly recommend Moose’s Tooth!!

pretty good! Pizza was *one* of the best I’ve had, easily top 3. I had a small pizza—1/2 carnivore and 1/2 firehouse. Crust was delicious. Cobbler was alright too, very filling. Pretty popular spot so this was actually the second time I tried to come here, since the wait time yesterday was very long. After being recommended at least once a day since I’ve been here, I think it’s definitely worth it. My server was amazing with her recommendations and in giving personal dish preferences. A really cool walk! Great way to see birds and experience the marsh of alaska! Plenty of overlooks and signs and information. Watch out for bears and Moose! Also eagles. We saw several eagles. There are bathrooms at the parking lot. Plenty of parking. Bathrooms are not the best so I recommend trying to hold it if you can. More like glorified portable potties.

We finally made it to Bear Tooth Theatrepub for breakfast, and wow—what an experience! It’s pretty good. Highly recommend if your visiting or have somebody visiting. The better food is on the theatrepub side but the fancy food is on the grill side. Had a burger, it was pretty good. There has definitely been a change in the past few years, as the overall vibe feels very different. Overall, it feels more cookie cutter and less of the “Alaskan experience” it was before. I would say it’s less friendly to locals and more of a normal restaurant. Theater side is still pretty good though. I would give 3 1/2 stars if I could.

Well-maintained trail leading to a gorgeous waterfall. It isn’t a hard trail, but there are several steep up-and-downs. We saw a couple with children in a wagon and they didn’t seem to love the choice they made! 1/2 mile to gorge overlook, 1 mile to the waterfall. Took us 38 minutes to get out and back. Parking was plentiful, even for our 24’ RV.

The walking at Thunderbird Falls Trail is very peaceful. Nice flat trail with almost no obstructions like roots and rocks, but it does have a couple steep incline sections that can leave you searching for your breath if you go to fast. Near the end of the mail trail is an offshoot that has a little more hazard to it, but I didn’t find it bad, nut your experience may vary. The offshoot has several obstructions but I think it’s worth it because you can get up close to the falls. If you go on a sunny day, the views are kind of spectacular at points along the way. It only takes an hour to make the hike, but you might want to stop and enjoy the views, so plan on additional time for pictures and sightseeing.

Visitor center
The Alaska Public Lands Information Center, located in the historic Federal Building, serves as a hub for visitors seeking information about federal lands in Alaska. Operated by National Park Service rangers, it offers educational exhibits on Alaskan wildlife and landscapes, along with guided historical walks and nature videos. The center also houses a bookstore with a wide selection of Alaskan titles and an auditorium for talks and screenings.
Just be aware that you will have to have your bag scanned to go into the building because it is the federal building. When you walk in, they will direct you to where the information center is. There was a really nice Ranger that spoke to us about things and they offer multiple movies about Alaska in the area.

This is an excellent and free resource in Anchorage I would highly recommend you give it a look while in the area. Be aware you need to enter through security screening since this is a federal building but once you do you hve access to Rangers, beautiful wildlife displays, live webcames of bears in Katmai National Park, and a theatre showing rotating films and in our case a live discussion of Magpies with a rescue animal. There is also a gift shop and clean restrooms.

This is a must stop for Alaska information center/visitor center. This is a federal building, you must go through same procedure as all secure building, metal detectors, no knives or weapons. Once you get in the park ranger who facilitated gift shop also operate theatre will greet you. There are tons of info about each section of Alaska and wild life. it’s a self guided tour. It’s very cool to be in the historic building. It used to be post office before. There is a big section of how important ithis building is to anchorage. Unfortunately, around the building, there is no free parking available, only pay parking on the street.
Wind N — Google review
Federal building so had to go through a metal detector but was very fast and no problem. A small free museum with lots of great info about the area and wildlife, free historical films, and a national park service ranger was there to answer questions and give information. It is across the street from where you can pick up the trolley if you want to do that. The museum is an easy walk from the captain cook hotel.

Awesome free museum. Ranger very knowledgeable about all the parks. Ranger very friendly and great with kids doing junior ranger activities.

super interactive and informative exhibition. They had a tent outside showing and explaining the difference between different types of bears, which is so cool. The theater is very nice. The gift shop also has cool souvenirs.

We had a great time at the Museum. Went on September 4th to learn more about Alaska's wildlife and wild places. Staff helped us get a great introduction to Anchorage and made some good recommendations. Everyone was fanatic and it was a great facility.

Some ok displays but nothing mind blowing. A pretty small area considering the building size. I did not attend the video screening, perhaps that was a highlight. You will be screened for weapons upon entry so leave them in your car.

Located in Chugach State Park, the Begich, Boggs Visitor Center has been welcoming visitors since 1986. The center offers a range of exhibits on glacial activity and interpretive programs, providing insight into the area's natural wonders. It also houses a bookshop for those looking to delve deeper into their learning experience. From here, visitors can embark on a glacier cruise to Portage Glacier for an up-close encounter with this stunning natural marvel.
Great stopping point on the way to Whittier! Awesome views of the lake!

Nice visitor center with a small museum. Entry is $5 for adults. Kids under 15 are free. The visitor center it self does not have a price and has excellent views of the area. Named after former politicians who disappeared in a plane crash it’s no wonder they call it the Alaska Triangle.
Michael — Google review
We stopped here in mid-September 2025 and the Visitor Center was closed for the season so that was a bummer. Looks like it would be a nice spot to stop, there are some walkways to take in the views; you can even walk down to the lake but I did get a little nervous of bear because it was eerily quiet and since it was raining my wife and daughter waited in the car so I was alone. Lots of tress and brush but a nice view.

This was the most amazing Visitor Center we've ever visited. It's so worth the drive! There is a lot to see and the movie is wonderful. Make sure you walk down the ramp and look out the window. The staff are friendly and very helpful. A great side trip after our boat ride was cancelled.

Went there on Wed and it was closed. So we didn't get to see the inside of the center but we did walk and hike the area which provides some wonderful views. Just amazing the mountains and rivers that run through this area.

For a smaller visitor center/museum, the Begich, Boggs Visitor Center is quite impressive. There's a $5 fee to access the museum section but the free section offers great views of Portage Lake. There's even a walkway right on the shore
Tyler N — Google review
While a bit dated, the exhibits continue to be effective of telling the story of the area, marine life, and culture. The 20 minute movie's message is about change and well-worth seeing. Cost per person is $5.00 unless you have a National Park Pass or other park pass. It's opened seasonally, so be sure to check hours and dates.
Maria M — Google review
Everyone was so busy walking across the lake to see the glacier, I can’t believe more people weren’t stopping to see the river and how blue the water is just to the left of the visitor center. Careful walking across the lake. We went April 3 and got half way across and some people coming back said the ground was getting soft and they turned around. It was 3pm so early morning start May be better to get to the glacier.

Beluga Point is a popular whale-watching spot located along the Seward Highway in Alaska. It offers paved parking, telescopes, and interpretive signs for visitors. The site features a rocky outpost with breathtaking panoramic views of the Chugach State Park mountain range and Turnagain Arm. Beluga Point also has a clay beach and short pathways for leisurely strolls, providing opportunities to unwind and admire the natural beauty of Alaska.
This is a free pull off the side of the road point of interest on Seward Highway at mile 110. This is definitely worth the stop. Great photo and video opportunities here. Tho we weren't lucky enough to spot a bugula whale, the vista is stunningly beautiful. We stopped on a cold and cloudy Tuesday afternoon. The wind was fairly strong. We spent a good 15 minutes here. Plenty of parking. There are no restrooms or permanent buildings here.
John H — Google review
Neat pull off on the Seward highway. Occasionally you can see marine wildlife in the turnagain arm or goats on the cliffs of the mountains. It offers great views of the mountains. You will need to walk around and go across the train tracks to get the better views. There are steep inclines so it isn’t entirely safe for small children. The views are vastly different from summer to winter.
Michael — Google review
Stopped at Beluga Point, great views of the mountain range across the water. Behind you can sometimes see sheep/goats (we did not). Good spot for some selfies too. It is a pull off paved parking spot and we stopped during the week so it was not busy.

Beluga Point is an absolutely beautiful scenic viewpoint located along the Seward Highway, offering stunning views of Turnagain Arm and the surrounding Chugach Mountains. Is located about 25 minutes from downtown Anchorage, Alaska and is a popular spot for wildlife viewing, particularly for beluga whales, which can often be seen swimming in the waters below. Absolutely breathtaking views from this area. There are binoculars available as well as an information plaque about beluga whales. Parking is free. There are no park benches or picnic tables here. Definitely worth stopping and taking pictures and videos. This point highlights the beauty of the Alaska coast and landscape.

Sunrise and sunset is when you want to be here! Beautiful, breathtaking, unforgettable ❤️!!! When looking for the whales 🐋 watch for something floating on the water but not going with the flow. Be patient 🙏 and you will see them break the water. I am pretty sure they sleep in this area at night and go further out during the day. Make sure you schedule the whole day just taking it all in. It is just a 30ish mile stretch but the hours quickly slip by. And please put your phone down for once and dont look at the scenery through the lense. Be in the moment. Breathe the air, feel the sun, smell the ocean, see the world, remember the moment!
Robert W — Google review
Such a beautiful stop along Seward Highway! Not far from Anchorage. The views are breathtaking and there are places to walk along the rocks and near the water. Perfect place to get some really great photos!
Megan B — Google review
Simply amazing and beautiful location. The views are jawdroping. The most convenient for all drivers going there is the fact that you can park in miltiple areas along the highway 🛣 . The Beluga point also has parts where drivers can read what is about that point. Very recommended 👌
Ricardo M — Google review
One of my favorite places to go just right out of town. Lots of places you can hike around this area. But you need to go to the opposite side of Beluga to get into the hiking and climbing. Some of the most amazing views are in this area and it's literally just 15 minutes outside of Anchorage. I highly recommend!

Located in Anchorage, the museum offers a rich educational experience with exhibits covering various conflicts from the Civil War to modern times. One of its notable features is the striking bronze sculpture titled 'The Last Blue Whale,' which depicts a whale overturning a boat, offering a unique storytelling perspective.
A nice museum with many artifacts from Alaskan veterans covering many different time periods. The WW2 sections and battles for Attu and Kiska were very interesting. The museum is staffed with volunteers and they were very friendly and engaging, with lots of insight and stories for the displays. We really enjoyed it and glad we stopped by.

Great military museum in Anchorage. We got a wonderful tour from Ted. We were able to see many rare artifacts, especially from the Aleutian campaign, but including all sorts of interesting items from the other major wars of the 20th century as well. I am aware of no other museum that has so much (or frankly, any) battlefield hardware from Attu and Kiska if that's a topic of interest. Traces the entire history of Alaska's involvement in World War I, II, Korea, Vietnam, the Cold War, and post-Cold War eras. Well worth a visit!

A good little museum but filled with lots of history of the military side of this community. I wish there was more space for the displays and better preservation of artifacts being done but it's a great museum and I recommend it over the other museum in this area. Would love to see it expanded in the future and cover the more diverse side of the military community of this region.

Wild Scoops is a beloved local ice cream shop in Anchorage that offers unique and delicious flavors made with fresh, local ingredients. The shop started as a small operation and has now grown into a full-time store in midtown. Customers rave about the friendly staff, warm atmosphere, and the opportunity to sample various flavors before making a choice. The waffle cones are particularly popular for their perfect crispness.
This place is so good!!! Not sure how the other guys stay in business!!! I ordered 3 scoops in a waffle cone. The ice cream is so creamy and good. Several flavors to choose from. I don’t think you’ll go wrong choosing any of them. But samples are given if asked ☺️☺️ Stop in and get a scoop or three!
Shelia J — Google review
The ice cream here is SO GOOD! While all the flavors we tried were delicious and obviously homemade, the Oreo was the show stealer! The baked Alaskan cone is a really unique idea and a great addition to the ice cream. The waffle cone was a really good cinnamon flavor as well. Highly recommend this place!

This place is adorable and clearly a local favorite. I can see why, it was delicious! They have lots of flavors and options for customizing. Signs and photos on the walls describe how they’ve locally sourced their ingredients. I got there just in time. There was a line slightly out the door, but when I left it was twice as long.

My wife, daughter, son-in-law, and I needed sweet treats after exploring Potter's Marsh in south Anchorage.. Enter Wild Scoops for the win!! A decidedly local ice cream shop, Wild Scoops offers a rotating selection of flavors sure to satisfy any palate.. I personally sampled the Ultimate Cookie Dough topped with Baked Alaska (torch-finished marshmallow creme) set inside a waffle cone.. Each bite brought with it a perfect medley of sweet cream, cookie dough, M&Ms, pretzel pieces and chocolate flecks.. The torch-finished marshmallow creme complemented the hand-crafted ice cream perfectly.. At the end of the day, Wild Scoops is worth the drive from wherever you might be in the greater Anchorage area, and their prices are quite reasonable for the quality of product and service received..

The line was long, I almost left, but fortunately, I decided to stay. It was worth the wait. The ice cream was delicious, and the cones were baked to perfection. The staff was awesome and the prices were ok. The place is in a plaza so the parking is plenty and free. I haven't tried it but noticed they have vegan options.

If you don't come here while visiting Anchorage your trip was not complete. So glad we did. The Pilots Life for Me & Pumpkin Gingerbread ice cream on Alaskan cones was absolutely wonderful. The shop smells amazing and the staff were friendly. When there's arrows outside to direct traffic and signs outside that explain which way the line forms you know you have a special place!

Wasn't familiar with this ice cream shop but it was recommended by someone people we met out and about. So glad we decided to stop by and try. We lined up just as the rush was getting started. You will probably have to wait in line, but it is really worth it. The Baked Alaska cone was so good! A wonderful treat for the day. The staff was also patient as we tried flavors and asked questions. They have GF/DF options, a nice surprise and allowed everyone in our group to try something.

Discover the breathtaking beauty of Portage Glacier with a scenic cruise on Portage Lake. Located just an hour's drive from Anchorage, this easily accessible glacier offers a one-hour boat tour that provides an up-close look at the magnificent glacier, massive icebergs, and the possibility of witnessing calving. Narrated by a U.S. Forest Service representative, this exclusive tour allows you to immerse yourself in Alaska's icy wilderness while learning about the area's natural wonders.
We took the one-hour Portage Glacier cruise and had a fantastic time—it was the perfect family outing! On the ride to the glacier, we were lucky enough to spot a mountain goat and an eagle. Our captain even brought us up close to a beautiful waterfall along the way, which was a nice surprise. At the glacier, we had plenty of time to take photos and enjoy the stunning views. One highlight was when the staff scooped up a piece of floating glacier ice for everyone to see and touch—such a cool moment! The entire crew was friendly, professional, and clearly cared about our experience. The boat was clean and comfortable, with great viewing areas both indoors on the lower level and outside on the upper deck. We felt safe and well taken care of the whole time. Highly recommend this cruise for anyone visiting the area!
Kaylyn M — Google review
We were boondocked close by and decided one evening to see if we could get tickets for the next day. We did! Tickets are $49 for a one hour cruise with some commentary about the glacier. The captain spent about 30 minutes at the glacier, maneuvering so all sides of the boat had a good view. It was wet and cold out so the warm dry cabin was welcome. There is also an open upper deck for viewing the glacier. $49 very well spent. The crew are helpful and educated.
Christy — Google review
We enjoyed the one hour cruise as part of a larger tour we’d booked. The crew were professional, safety focused, and quite knowledgeable. They provided lots of interesting information about the glaciers, how the lake was formed, and the surrounding geography. Many great opportunities to capture stunning Alaskan scenery. Definitely worth doing.
Peter G — Google review
Amazing! Views of the glacier and mountains are great no matter where you are on the boat. The whole crew was super nice and the narration very informative and interesting. We were lucky enough to see a bear during our cruise, bring binoculars! We got our tickets online through their website but saw a couple people buy their tickets while they were in line to get to the boat, but not sure if these sell out but I recommend booking in advance just to make sure. 100% worth it.
S N — Google review
Highly recommend was worth it. Around an hour boat tour of portage lake and the glacier. The crew are very informative throughout the tour through the PA system. Both inside climate control and an outside top deck for optimal views. They offer plenty of good stops along way to get photos of the waterfalls and the glacier itself. Suitable for all ages. We choose the first tour at 10:30am and only had about 20 passengers along but next 2 tours the crew said was around 120 passengers. So maybe best to cooperate first tour if you are looking for less crowded experience. Highly recommend this tour.

This is a must stop in Alaska. This business is ran by a crew that takes pride in their state and the natural preservation of our beautiful land. The cruise was a phenomenal way to see the glacier and the absolutely stunning beauty of Alaska in nature. In all of her glory. Even if you don't get a window seat you could step outside and enjoy the view. The tour takes you through breathtaking fjords and past towering glaciers, each more impressive than the last. The guides are knowledgeable and provide great commentary on the wildlife, geology, and history of the area. We saw a variety of seals. The crew is friendly and ensures everyone has a great experience, offering warm beverages and a tasty lunch. One should not miss this adventure. Highly recommended. Don't forget to bring a raincoat if the weather prediction is rainy. When we visited it was raining but still we got very beautiful views. In the boat, they provide binoculars for rent. Its even more beautiful than the photos

We lucked out and chose a beautiful day to cruise Prince William Sound. We saw lots of otters, seals, and sea lions. The crew were informative and nice. Lunch was simple but delicious. Snacks and drinks were available to buy. We forgot our binoculars, but they had very nice ones for rent, at $5. The highlight was hanging out in front of a massive tidewater glacier for a long time and seeing it calve. The captain was on a schedule, but it never felt rushed. Fabulous way to spend a day in Alaska.

Just do it! It was breathtakingly beautiful. So much wildlife, so many glaciers, so little time. Sea lions, otters, birds and even saw a black bear, in town! There was someone from the parks service giving the tour and telling stories of Prince William Sound and explaining the glaciers and their importance. So much is done to preserve the ecosystem even as you travel. Food was good but they do not have gluten free options that could easily have been incorporated since the meals are limited. I really was worried about being seasick but didn't even know I was on the water. Whittier is a most beautiful area and will worth the visit!
Dena F — Google review
Better than expected!! The ride was smooth , the staff were so nice and the sights were amazing. You could move around to all the different decks and find which one suits your need. I loved being on top but it did get very cold so my kids enjoyed the front of the ship more. If you got cold you just came back inside for a complimentary hot drink and a warm up. The narration was on point with facts and stories. The captain helped you find all the animals and made sure to turn the boat so no matter where you were , you spotted them. I could go on and on but this was definitely a family favorite for this trip that soon won't be forgotten.

Very much enjoyed our boat tour in William Prince sound with this company. The boat we were on was only year old and is brand new. Very modern and comfortable. They have a great snack bar, offering beverages, snacks, beer, wine, and cocktails the lunch they served, a salmon soup was outstanding. The captain made sure to give information at every point of interest along the tour, including the many beautiful ice glaciers. We saw some sea otters, a few stellar sea lions and birds. Overall, we are very happy with our choice. The weather was cold, damp and rainy in mid September but that is normal. We were able to get great views and pictures. Would highly recommend this company.

The drive along Seward Highway is beautiful all year (these photos are from January). There are pullovers every couple of miles. The Chugach Mountains are staggeringly beautiful. This is a nice place to come and watch the airplanes take off and land. Great place to bring your kids, especially in the summer. Ice cream trucks come out because of all the families who come. Straight out West on Northern Lights, until you can't drive out any further!

Excellent view at the end of the runway. Big cargo planes soar low. Highly recommend to take the 5 mile trail back to town.

So we didn’t get to hike the area as I left my tennis shoes in Texas like an idiot, but we did do some walking around. We are aviation nerds and this is a GREAT place to watch the planes! I’ll update when we go back to visit my son at UAA.

Point Woronzof Park is a beautiful spot right by the water with some of the best views in Anchorage! You can watch airplanes take off from the airport while enjoying incredible sunsets over Cook Inlet. It’s peaceful, great for walking or taking photos, and you might even see moose along the trail. A perfect place to relax and feel the true Alaskan vibe!

A great spot to park up enjoy the view, the view out to sea offers incredible sunset views or you can head down to the beach for some cliffside views. There is also the walking trail which leads off through the woods around the perimeter of the airport and is one of the best places in Anchorage to guarantee a moose siting if that’s something you’re after.

If you like trash, graffiti, the smell of jet fuel, and the loud sound of planes flying overhead, you will love it here. No wildlife whatsoever. It's just not worth your time.
Khiara L — Google review
Walk along a beach with extreme tides. See sand and river rock layers in the cliffs and watch the planes fly over as they take off.
Dave B — Google review
Relax atmosphere with several trail n view of the harbor n the airport landing, worth spending your time there.

A quick stop at this Headquarters is something we did while on the way from Seward and it is worth stop. The place is beautiful with Railway track 🛤️ and the wooden house. The sunset with water front is incredible. No entry fee you can park the car take some pictures and spend few minutes.

Te Chugach State Park headquarters is located on the Seward Highway. There is the snowplough train adjacent to the headquarters. The HQ is a lovely preserved century old home overlooking the waterfront. There is informational plaques adjacent to the home, as well as a cold shed, restrooms, garden, and meat cachet highlighting the history of the pioneers in this area and how they lived. Very cool place overall.

What a gem! Our plans for Denali were thwarted due to wildfires and our hotel being out of power and water. So we stuck around Anchorage and are so glad we did. Chugach did not disappoint. It is a long way in and there’s no food or drink (except an awesome little ice cream shop a mile or so before the parking area). The views are spectacular. Particularly when the cloud cover burns off a bit. And the lake is absolutely stunning. We did a little hiking. Some of us kayaked. (Access the bike/kayak rentals from second parking lot). But be warned. We waited nearly an hour to launch. It’s just one woman and there seems to be no plan for accommodating people who come at different times. No note about waiting or what time to expect her. Then how long it will take before she can help you get out.

It would be nice to know more about current use for the train cars. It looks like they're used for something modern, as there are wool rugs inside. Still, a cool vignette of AK history, even if it brags about white men not needing Native's help until a labor shortage happened. These portapotties had toilet paper in them, unlike others we used, such as at Glen Alps Trailhead, which had none.

So lovely and had bathrooms.

I am impressed with Alaska's historical (and easy to understand) placards which are placed throughout the state. Therefore I make it a must to always look at them and here was no different. For starters: I had no idea their passenger train service is so vast and practical -- yet still young at only 100 years old! And now proud to know it exists primarily through the generosity of the lower 48 state's taxpayers, military, railroads, and diverse labor pool -- bravo to one and all!

Nice scenic stop with information about the railroad tracks.

Fun little stop on a Turnagain Arm trip with some railway history boards and a cool photo op with a snow removal rail car.
