Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara is a captivating viewpoint in Lisbon, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the city, including Alfama and Lisbon Castle. This urban park, located in the Bairro Alto district, provides a serene escape from the city's hustle and bustle while still allowing visitors to admire its landmarks. The terraced garden features sculptures of Greek gods and goddesses, benches for relaxation, an ornamental fountain, and a charming outdoor cafe.
Visited on June 13th during the annual festival, and the atmosphere was electric! The viewpoint was buzzing with lively stalls selling refreshing drinks and delicious fast food. While I couldn’t stay for the evening concert, the daytime energy alone was worth the trip. The panoramic views of Lisbon are breathtaking—you can see the entire city stretched out below, just as pictured. The charming fountain area offers plenty of seating, making it a perfect spot to relax with coffee or even enjoy a leisurely lunch. With ample benches and easy access via Tram 51E or local buses, this miradouro is both convenient and unforgettable. A must-visit for the views, vibes, and vibrant local culture!
Ozzie G — Google review
We took the funicular up to this little park for the views, and it was not disappointing! The 270 degree views of the city and surrounding mountains were breathtaking. There are two levels to this park, and plenty of park benches to relax on. There is a small cafe here, if you need a drink or a snack. I would definitely recommend visiting here, especially if you want some really great photos!
Mark P — Google review
One of the most beautiful viewpoints in Lisbon! It offers a fantastic panoramic view over the city, especially at sunset when the light is golden. There’s a small park with benches, trees, and even a kiosk for coffee or drinks. It can get a bit crowded, but the atmosphere is lively and pleasant. A must-visit spot for anyone exploring Lisbon
Marta A — Google review
Best spot in Lisbon to stop and see the whole city. It has a dog park below and a nice spot in the back with a cat box that was tended by some retirees. Great place for photos, food, music and just relaxing.
Chris G — Google review
Lisbon is a city that pretends to be humble while casually seducing you at every corner. I left the house planning “just a short walk,” which, in this city, is the most unrealistic expectation you can possibly set. Five minutes in and you’re already climbing some Biblical staircase, questioning gravity, God, and your shoe choices. But then Lisbon apologizes. It always does. Usually with light. I wandered through streets that smelled like roasted chestnuts and mild chaos, past tiled façades that look like somebody finally let a poet design buildings. People spilled into cafés, dogs trotted around like they owned the place, and the whole city glowed in that gentle, old-European way — like a postcard that refuses to retire. Eventually I drifted uphill to Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara, which is the kind of viewpoint that doesn’t just offer a view — it offers perspective. The kind that makes you remember you still have a pulse. Up there, under a tree that had definitely lived through several empires, I found an artist named Anne Laidam, casually painting like she had all the time in the world. Her works were neon daydreams of Lisbon — trams, rooftops, broken sunlight — the whole city filtered through someone’s kindness. I wasn’t planning to buy art. (I never plan to buy art. Art plans to buy me.) But one of her trams looked at me with the exact attitude of a Lisbon cat: unimpressed, slightly judgmental, irresistibly charming. So, of course, I adopted it. And carried it home alongside a copy of Saramago — because every reckless purchase deserves a companion in philosophy. If you ever want a walk that feels like a conversation with a city that knows it’s beautiful but doesn’t brag: just start walking. Lisbon will take care of the rest.
Yen V — Google review
This is one of Lisbon’s finest viewpoints, offering sweeping views over the red rooftops of Alfama and the Tagus River. Created in 1864, the viewpoint is laid out over two levels. The upper terrace features traditional Portuguese landscaping, while the lower terrace includes classical statues and a central fountain—creating a peaceful garden atmosphere in the heart of the city. A unique feature here is the azulejo tile map installed in 1952, which helps visitors identify Lisbon’s main landmarks visible from the terrace.
Seokjin H — Google review
After taking the team to the top , or even walking (quite tiring but I tried the first time) you will definitely realize that it is definitely worth going up there. First of all The view and the panoramic views of castle, the city are amazing. Later on you can go to the Barrio Alto and even spen sometime in the park by enjoying drinks and food. A must do.

Amazing view, very nice vibe with bars and good street food around (a bit overpriced). Definitely worth checking if you're is Lisbon, specially near sunset hours. I'd recommend for couples who want a romantic vibe.

Miradouro de Santa Luzia is a popular observation deck in Lisbon, Portugal, offering stunning views of the city and the Tagus River. As one of the many miradouros in Lisbon, it provides a striking perspective of the district of Alfama and its red-tiled roofs. With its pergola and dramatic vistas, it's a perfect spot for capturing Instagram-worthy snaps.
Beautiful view — especially stunning at sunrise or sunset. The lighting is amazing, but there are usually more people at sunset.
MsAllatt — Google review
A very lovely patio with a great view! And it is free! Could be a bit crowded but would recommend to take a visit on your way down from the castle, as the view will not disappoint you for sure!
CHIN — Google review
Miradouro de Santa Luzia is pure magic. The moment you reach the terrace, Lisbon unfolds beneath you — red rooftops tumbling toward the sparkling Tagus River, narrow streets weaving through the Alfama district, and sunlight dancing on every tile. The bougainvillea and azulejos add a splash of color that feels almost unreal. It’s the kind of spot where you just want to sit, breathe, and let the city’s charm wash over you, maybe with a coffee in hand or a camera tucked away, because some moments are just for feeling, not snapping
Ivy N — Google review
I visited Miradouro de Santa Luzia on a rainy day and the view was absolutely worth it! One of the most beautiful viewpoints in Lisbon. charming tiles, peaceful vibes, and a perfect spot to take in the city from above. Perched on the hills of Alfama, Lisbon’s oldest district, this viewpoint sits beside the small Igreja de Santa Luzia one of the most breathtaking views in the city.
Sultan A — Google review
Miradouro de Santa luzia Visited around 3 PM and the view was just beautiful — calm, sunny, and full of charm. You can see the red rooftops and the Tagus River stretching into the distance. I only stayed about 10 minutes, but it was completely worth it. Such a peaceful spot in the middle of Lisbon.
Nissanka R — Google review
A must-see viewpoint in the city. The view is essential, overlooking the sea and the rooftops below, but it is more decorated with azulejos tiles and a very cute little square than its neighbor, Portas do Sol ... and crowded as well most of the time !
Enjoy L — Google review
The viewpoint offers one of the most picturesque views in Lisbon, overlooking the red-tiled rooftops of Alfama and the shimmering waters of the Tagus River. The viewpoint is arranged across two terraces. The upper terrace features beautifully tiled walls decorated with azulejos—traditional Portuguese ceramic tiles—that depict scenes from Lisbon’s past, adding a charming historical touch. It’s especially magical at sunrise, when the soft light washes over the city.
Seokjin H — Google review
Beautiful (and free) viewpoint overlooking Alfama and the river. It can get crowded, but it’s worth it. There’s also a cute little bar above where you can enjoy a drink with the view.

Miradouro das Portas do Sol is a popular scenic viewpoint in Lisbon, offering panoramic views of traditional Alfama houses with red roofs and churches. From this vantage point, visitors can take in the National Pantheon, the Tagus River, and the 17th-century Sao Vicente de Fora Church. The area features a cafe and bar where guests can enjoy various drinks and snack/lunch items while basking in the sunny skies and surrounding palm trees.
Completely free viewpoint! Yet, there are tons of cafes and bars nearby, so you can still enjoy the view with a drink or a meal. This miradouro is located in the middle of many historical landmarks, so you can also walk around more and visit Pantheon or other viewpoint sites as well!

Amazing view! It's a short walk out to the view and when we were there, aggressive sales people acted friendly and gave "gifts" on the way in, but then got aggressive on the way out when I refused to buy the bracelet. Just be aware.
Jesse F — Google review
Great viewpoint! A must visit. We took the blue line to Santa Apolonia and walked up to Alfama and this viewpoint, then continued to castle. Great views over Lisbon!
Hanne H — Google review
Astonishing view over the Lisbon. Many things to notice and enjoy. Usually full of curious people. However, everyone will find the spot to observe 😌🌸

Excellent views from this scenic spot. The hidden Secret Garden XL bar below it is a nice place to catch a sunset if you can get a table.
Raju P — Google review
One of Lisbon's best observation decks. You'll see it on the right after passing the cathedral. You absolutely must visit, day or night. You can get there by tram number 28.
Ibrahim I — Google review
This location is a great spot to capture a picture that blends the shoreline and this historic Lisbon neighborhood, but I was disappointed that the location itself wasn't well maintained. So, we skipped grabbing a coffee and headed on our way for more street photography 📸

Alfama, one of Lisbon's oldest areas, is a charming district with steep streets lined with traditional craft shops and cafes. The historic no. 28 tram winds through the neighborhood up to São Jorge Castle, offering stunning views from Miradouro da Graça terrace. Despite the mid-18th century earthquake, Alfama has preserved its medieval appearance with chaotic alleyways and small houses creating a village-like atmosphere.

The Monument to the Discoveries, also known as Padrao dos Descobrimentos, was originally built in 1940 and made permanent in 1960 to commemorate 500 years since the death of Henry the Navigator. It stands as a prominent symbol of Lisbon, celebrating the courageous individuals who participated in the Age of Discovery during the 15th and 16th centuries.
An impressive monument celebrating Portugal’s Age of Discoveries. The sculptures are detailed and beautiful, and the riverside location makes it perfect for photos. You can go up to the viewing platform for a great panorama of Belém and the river. Often crowded, but worth a short visit.
Marta A — Google review
I visited the Padrão dos Descobrimentos while exploring the Jerónimos Monastery. This impressive monument is a tribute to the Portuguese heroes and sailors who helped introduce Europe to the rest of the world during the Age of Discovery. Inside, there’s a small museum that offers interesting exhibits about Portugal’s maritime history. Climbing to the top of the monument rewards you with a beautiful panoramic view — you can see the Jerónimos Monastery, the Belém Tower, and even the city of Lisbon in the distance. Overall, I really enjoyed the visit. It’s a must-see spot in Belém and absolutely worth the stop.
Murillo P — Google review
The Monument of Discoveries is impressive and absolutely worth seeing from the outside — the scale, detail, and waterfront setting are stunning. We wanted to go inside for the viewpoint, but unfortunately the line was moving very slowly, so we didn’t get a chance this time. Still, a beautiful landmark and a great stop while exploring Belém.
Dmitriy A — Google review
This is an extraordinary monument. Originally it was made out of wood and plaster for the Portuguese international exposition and dismantled after that. But it was rebuilt in limestone. In front of this is an incredible map of the world showing the places the Portuguese sailors went to and colonized. It’s a beautiful work of craftsmanship and educational as well.
G M — Google review
The Monument to the Discoveries is absolutely stunning! Its scale and intricate sculptures bring Portugal’s Age of Exploration to life, featuring legendary figures like Prince Henry the Navigator and Vasco da Gama. The location along the Tagus River is perfect, with breathtaking views from the top platform. The surrounding Belém district, including the Jerónimos Monastery and Belém Tower, makes it a rich historical experience. A must-visit for anyone interested in history, culture, or photography. Highly recommended!
Purba D — Google review
We were in Lisbon for 6 days on a tour cruise by NCL. One of our tours was to Belém where there is lots to see. First we went to this fantastic Monument to the Discoveries which highlights the worldwide explorers from Portugal. It is a wonderful monument and very large. Sitting right on the waterfront pointing out to see. There is a mosaic of the world in the pavement just in front. A very busy area with all the tourists so not easy to get good clear pictures. On a boat ride, we also passed by and took more pictures.
THE E — Google review
Impressive monument and one of the must-see landmarks in Belém. The sculptures are detailed and beautifully done, celebrating Portugal’s Age of Exploration. You can take the elevator up to the viewing deck for a great view of the river, the bridge, and Jerónimos Monastery. I visited on a weekday and there was no wait at all. No need to buy tickets in advance—everything was quick and easy. Definitely worth a stop if you’re exploring the area!

Amoreiras 360º Panoramic View is a must-visit open-air platform situated on the roof of the Amoreiras shopping center, offering breathtaking panoramic views of Lisbon. Despite being initially controversial due to its postmodern towers, the shopping mall has remained a favorite destination for locals and tourists alike. The observation deck provides a 360-degree view of almost the entire city, from Parque das Nacoes in the east to Belem in the west.
Wow! What a fantastic view! Literally 360 views of Lisbon with helpful maps outlining what you can see. Went on a sunny day so had an amazing view - all the way to the sea in one direction and airport runway in another. Well worth the 5€ entrance. We were the only people up there and it was really clean with lots of seating and fixed binoculars for close up views. Well worth a visit.
Charis A — Google review
Superb. We had the place virtually to ourselves (possibly due to the possibility of dramatic weather). Really liked it here, nice and peaceful with amazing views.
Ian D — Google review
The Amoreiras 360º Panoramic View is worth checking out if you want to see Lisbon from above. You get a full view of the city, from the Tagus River to the bridges and all the colorful rooftops. It’s not as crowded as some of the other viewpoints, which makes it a nice spot to take your time and enjoy. The entrance is through the shopping center, so it’s easy to grab a coffee or a snack before or after. The price is fair for the experience, and the staff were helpful. A great way to get a sense of the city’s layout and take some beautiful photos.

Well worth the entrance fee. Best view of lisbon in the city 😍 could have stayed up there for hours. Was too hot thou.. can see all landmarks for and the telescopes (3) give you an even better view..

Beautiful views. Cost: €5 for adults, tickets can be purchased at the information desk on the first floor. The service was a bit rude. We were watched by security the whole time, the lady just stood in the corner and stared at us, which was a bit awkward.

Beautiful view of Lisbon from up high. We were alone, it had recently rained and we could see rainbows. One by one, airplanes were flying over our heads. There are binoculars on the platform and you can watch the planes land at the airport. This observation deck made a cool impression on us.

A view definitely worth coming here and going up with the elevator the 18 stories to the rooftop of the building. Especially when the weather is fine, the sight is clear for kilometers on end and the sky is nothing but blue. I did enjoy it a lot.

Perched atop the Monsanto Forest Park in Lisbon, Portugal, the Panorâmico de Monsanto is an abandoned structure with a storied past. Initially designed as a high-end restaurant and event space in the 1960s, it later transformed into a nightclub before being deserted in the early 2000s. Despite its dilapidated state and adorned with graffiti, this site attracts urban explorers and photographers seeking its unique architecture and breathtaking panoramic views of Lisbon and the Tagus River.
Existing vibrant place which is not a typical tourist attraction. There's a great view to the city, but the place itself is way more fascinating. Looks shabby at first sight because of the graffiti and other installations, but is clean and nice to look around inside.
Peter ( — Google review
Very very interesting place and quite nice scenery. I think some reviews mentioned that this was a restaurant or something. Now it is just run down and with graffiti, some of which are quite nice. If you are thinking of walking there, beware it’s quite an uphill and you have to walk along side cars and also into some trails so it’s not completely safe. There is a carpark next to the place so you could park your car or bike. I decided to take a Bolt taxi (which is quite affordable in Lisbon compared to UK or Europe Uber prices) there from the nearby Museu da Água bridge because I have walked too much for the day 🥺. One interesting episode is that some chap climbed up to the highest level (of which the entry is blocked so don’t attempt climbing any walls) and the staff who was closing the place called the police. Three police officers arrived very quickly and went up to get the guy. So please beware of risk of trespassing and don’t climb the wall on the second level.
Eric D — Google review
Abandoned building that used to be the dictator's favourite restaurant, the views from this place is amazing and you get to see all the different parts of Lisbon. But that's not the only good thing about this place, it has some amazing artwork and many artists have their art here, I would recommend stopping here on the way!
Ofek S — Google review
An old restaurant that was abandoned and is in ruins now. Though the place might be a little dangerous, since it's now know how damaged the infrastructure is, it provides the most astonishing view over Lisbon. If you're an explorer, the building itself has lots of street art to appreciate, specially on the lower levels.
André P — Google review
Worth a stop to see great views of Lisbon and experience a bit of history. The stained glass window is quite special and worth it. There are now posted hours which end at 6pm and security regularly makes rounds.
Brian K — Google review
I‘ve traveled a lot of places on this planet and yet have not seen many sunrise spots like this. Check the opening times, since it is really difficult to climb the new secured fences ;) Only 4 of 5 stars because they closed the gates during the sunrise. Pity! ;)

A former restaurant now in disuse but with amazing panoramic views. There are some tiles with Portuguese scenes that remind me of the Communist restaurants of the 60s but also really cool graffitis. After you have a look around have a walk in the woods and enjoy the Monsanto trails, the trees and the flowers.

And abandoned old restaurant is now one of the best viewpoint to admire Lisbon from an unusual point of view. Reaching the place is not easy walking but you can do it! Inside there is a bunch of street art and a stone work with political satire. Of course is free.

Nestled near the iconic castle, Miradouro do Recolhimento is a delightful hidden gem in Lisbon that offers stunning views of the Alfama district and the shimmering river. This charming viewpoint, which opened its doors in 2015, remains relatively undiscovered by tourists and travel guides alike. Set within a peaceful playground area shaded by olive trees, it provides an inviting space for families with children to relax while soaking up breathtaking vistas of historic landmarks like the National Pantheon and Church of St.
One of the best view points over the magnificent city of Lisbon. Enter through the gates of the playground and walk to the end. You will have a lot of place to sit and just enjoy the view. Magnificent place to just turn off your mind and live in the moment, because it's not as crowded as other miradouros.

Views from this park of the east side of Lisbon. Not as nice as the other viewpoints at the castello o even farther, but still it is nice and it is free. The park is not too big or worthwhile though.

For a rainy day this place was really really nice. It was super easy to get to by metro and to be honest, we actually bought stuff here when we did not plan to. Large mall. Great places to eat upstairs. Clean and comfortable. It can get busy though but when you have free time during a rainy day, this is perfect. A huge Continente too which we sadly did not have time to visit. We spent hours here and did not even see everything since we ran out of time.

Great shopping Centre in Lisbon CBD. There are many tech stores, shopping stores for clothes and places to eat. It’s a great place to spend a day out even after work.
Kirsee A — Google review
Night time the exit doesn’t have a safe feeling to it. Stores are small. If you are a foreigner visiting this mall just avoid it as the options are not as much as they make it seem in other reviews.

Amoreiras Shopping Center is an exceptional shopping destination that truly stands out in the city. From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted with a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere. The architecture and design of the mall are both modern and elegant, making the shopping experience even more enjoyable. The variety of stores available is impressive, catering to all tastes and preferences. Whether you’re looking for high-end fashion brands, popular retail chains, or unique boutique shops, Amoreiras has it all. The selection is diverse and well-curated, ensuring that you can find everything you need under one roof. One of the standout features of Amoreiras is its excellent range of dining options. From gourmet restaurants to casual eateries, the food court offers a plethora of choices to satisfy any craving. The quality of the food is consistently high, and the ambiance of the dining areas adds to the overall pleasant experience. Another highlight is the customer service. The staff throughout the mall are exceptionally friendly and helpful, always willing to assist with a smile. This level of service makes shopping at Amoreiras not just convenient but also a delight.
Panagiotis P — Google review
The views here are indeed amazing and 360. There are also a few binoculars available to check out the views better, good view of airport too. However, this is literally just a roof top. We were somehow expecting some food or drinks at the top. We had our expectations set wrong. There are no food or drinks available. Even the seats available were so uncomfortable and definitely not made for sitting too long. I guess the ticket is worth it for the views but have your expectations set right. I would recommend taking a drink with you and sunglasses. You are taken up via a lift, but there are a small number of steps to take up to the top.
Tat — Google review
Terrible experience. The mall is extremely outdated and feels very old. The restrooms were absolutely filthy and disgusting. On top of that, it is not tourist-friendly at all; it was almost impossible to find staff who speak English. I do not recommend visiting.

Praça Luís de Camões, also known as Camoes Square, is a charming city square and a well-known meeting point in Lisbon. At its center stands a monumental statue of the legendary 16th-century poet Luis de Camoes, surrounded by smaller statues representing other Portuguese literary greats. The square serves as a convenient junction between the Chiado and Bairro Alto districts, making it an ideal spot for meeting friends or starting explorations of these vibrant neighborhoods.
Probably one of the most beautiful squares in Lisbon, where the life of Bairro Alto still flows, where trams meet and you can still see the driver getting off the tram to change the lever of the tracks. The baroque churches that mirror each other are also beautiful. Around the square, many Pasteis de Nata shops also in vegan versions.

We went on a free walking tour today 27/06/2025 at 10 am from the Praca Luis De Canoes with Lisbon Chill out walking tour. Our guide Joseph was excellent, engaging, funny, knowledgeable and most importantly approachable. He gave a good explanation of the history both from a historical and local perspective. The tour was supposed to be 2.5 hours but ended up more like 3.5 hours, however the time flew by and at 62, I managed to keep up!. He moved at a reasonable pace with lots of stops for points of interest and explanations of what we were looking at. The tour covered essential points of interest but even better was the information on local districts, which we may not have discovered for ourselves. If you have a morning and really want to get into the real Lisbon, I would heartily recommend this tour. This is the original walking tour by locals who care and are respectful of the impact of tourism on the local people and environment. At the end you pay what you feel the experience was worth. We thought it was excellent and a 5 star experience ✨

What a nice place to just hang around, sipping some drink of your choice (which you have to bring on your own, of course) and enjoying the view. I learned about it just recently and got curious. And since the weather promised to be fine the other night, warm and with a clear cloudless sky, I went there and did enjoy it a lot. It’s amazing seeing the sun sinking down to the horizon and so creating a colorful play in the sky. Won’t be the last time I’ve been there, I guess.

Restaurant
Bellalisa Elevador is a popular Italian restaurant in Lisbon with great food, service and views. It's also well priced, making it a great option for budget travelers. The only downside is that the elevator can be quite busy and disruptive during peak times, but this doesn't take away from the overall experience.
Great service, great location, and great view. They have a deal for lunch where you can get a starter, main dish, desert, drink, and coffee for €12. The restaurant overlooks one of the best views of Lisbon. If you enter with the stairs to this restaurant, you don’t have to wait for the elevator, which most tourists don’t know

Very well located restaurant. Great atmosphere, right beside s the Elevador Santa Justa. Friendly staff and reasonable prices for this location. The food is good, the standard Italian international dishes. The shrimp risotto was quite good. It's a nice place overall.

Well priced food, fast service, good sized portions and was very well cooked. Views from table were incredible when seated outside. The only downside was the elevator being a tourist attraction meant people where constantly walking past and stopping to take photos right next to our table. Waiters should do more to move them along and the only reason why I haven't given 5 stars.

Okay, I’ll admit it, I actually look forward to passing through Rato station now. Those glossy green tiles with their subtle geometric patterns? Absolutely gorgeous, especially when the light hits them just right on the stairway. It feels like stepping into some retro-futuristic Lisbon dream. Was the elevator broken when I was there? Sure. But honestly, taking the stairs lets you slow down and actually notice the place – the way the shadows play off the tiles, the clean lines of the architecture... it’s weirdly peaceful for a metro station. Lisbon’s full of beautiful little details like this if you slow down enough to see them. Five stars for making my commute feel fancy.

Lisbon's tram system is not only a popular mode of transportation for locals, but also a charming way to explore the city's historic neighborhoods. The iconic trams are a favorite subject for photographers and their distinctive sound adds to the city's ambiance. While Tram no. 28 is the most famous, there are other routes worth exploring. A particularly enjoyable journey is from Miradouro de Sao Pedro de Alcantara to Monumento dos Restauradores.
A short but pleasant ride between Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara and Monumento dos Restauradores. Tickets can be paid on the tram by cash or card or bought beforehand. A slightly different experience compared to the other iconic trams found around the city. Would certainly recommend anyone in the area to experience it.
