O Velho Eurico is a cozy eatery known for its classic regional dishes and snug dining space with exposed-stone walls. Originally a traditional tasca, it gained fame for its exceptional polvo a lagareiro and balcalhau no forno. After the owner's retirement, young chefs took over, introducing an array of petiscos to the menu. The hand-written chalkboard showcases traditional Portuguese dishes that have been enjoyed for generations.
Amazing amazing food and drink. Very friendly service. The staff serve shots while you wait for your table. They are famous for their piglet pastry , the cod dish and the duck rice. They serve drinks , the piglet pastry and sardine dish through the window while you wait for the table. If you don’t have a reservation, prepare yourself for ~2 hour wait. It was a memorable experience for us.
Naghmeh S — Google review
Everything about this restaurant is exceptional except for the long wait to get in. It’s so popular that the reservations were booked out until the next month. We tried to get a walk in table. We had to wait 2 hours for a table. BUT once we did get a table and had the food all was forgiven. The food was so delicious! Go here if you have a night to wait for a table. The food is worth it if you’re happy to wait. Once you’re in, the service and atmosphere is excellent. You can also order snacks and drinks while you’re waiting outside.
Christina M — Google review
We came here without a reservation (they’re fully booked for weeks!) but decided to wait for a walk-in spot. Ended up waiting about 2.5 hours – and honestly, I’m so glad we did. The vibe outside was great; they served drinks through a little window, and we got chatting with locals and other people waiting. It actually made the wait really fun. Once we got in, the service was amazing. The sous chef helped us choose dishes since some of our group don’t eat pork, and everyone was super friendly. We sat at the counter and got to watch the kitchen in action – speaking to chefs as they dished up their plates. The food was incredible! The watermelon and tomato salad, shrimp sauce with bread, and tuna picapau were my highlights. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully cooked. Totally worth the wait and the hype. This place made the perfect start to our trip and was one of the best places we dined at. If you can wait for a table to clear, trust me you won’t be disappointed.
Shelan K — Google review
We had a great time here. Reserved in advance and got a table right away, however saw some people come early and put their name on the waiting list for the next available table so that is also an option. The food was amazing and beautifully presented. Waiters were also very attentive and kind. Definitely recommend!
Jenny N — Google review
A restaurant is an experience. If judged on the food alone, O Velho Eurico would get 6 stars. The food is incredible and reasonably priced. The issue is its pretention. It claims to accept reservations online, yet it only does that for a very small number of tables. Perhaps even just one table. I know this because I tried making a reservation about two months in advance and was not able to do so. I even contacted the restaurant directly and was told my only option was to arrive at the restaurant at opening (7:30pm) and reserve a table for that evening. So I did. I got there 30 minutes early and there were already 10 tables ahead of me waiting on the line. By opening time, there were at least 10 more tables after me. I then waited until about 745pm to even get to the host to put my name on the list and was told it would be an hour and 15 minutes before I would get a table. It was two hours. I finally sat down with friends at 9:45. They had about 5 main dishes, a handful of smaller dishes and a few desserts - not by any means an extensive menu. I also didn't think the staff particular nice - they weren't rude but weren't overly helpful or accommodating. Now, like I said before, the food was incredible. All of it. Top-notch execution. We had the chicken peri peri, duck rice, pork pocket (similar to an empanada), fries with Francesinha sauce, and leite creme. But to think that it's ok to ask tourists in town for just a few days to sacrifice 3 hours of time to wait for a table seems absurd and pretentious. For that reason, I cannot in good conscience give this restaurant give stars. This is an easy fix - so fix it. Permit reservations. And if you are concerned about people not showing up, charge a fee for late cancellations. Or just accept people on a first-come, first-serve basis. But do not put your customers through this circus of an ordeal.

Lisbon is packed with good restaurants and bistros, but this was our favourite, especially when considering the price/value as well as the ambiance! Delicious, authentic food with some creative twists such as the octopus in orange sauce. All sauces were made to be scooped up by bread at the end. Friendly staff who seemed to be enjoying themselves, and a very short selection of good Portuguese wines. We started queuing 40 minutes early, which might have been a bit early, but did not regret it when we saw how long the queue got in the end.

We dined here last night and it was hands down one of the best dining experiences we've had during our five-week trip around Europe! A word of advice: go in with an open mind. Be willing to try new things and embrace the authentic, rustic charm of the place - if you do, you’ll absolutely love it. We didn’t have a reservation and arrived around 7:15 PM. The staff added us to the waitlist and estimated about a 1–1.5 hour wait. No problem! We grabbed a drink at a nearby bar, then returned to enjoy a drink in their outdoor area before being seated. We were lucky enough to be seated at the bar, which turned out to be a real treat - we got a front-row view of the kitchen where everything was cooked with love, passion, and incredible efficiency. We ordered the duck rice, piri piri chicken, squid with orange sauce, and fries. Every single dish was phenomenal - packed with flavour and beautifully prepared. To top it all off, we ended the night with their delicious sponge cake, enjoyed great conversation with the friendly staff and fellow diners, and left with huge smiles on our faces. Highly recommend this spot - it’s a true gem!

Lovely place with delicious food. Traditional Portuguese dishes with an interesting and tasty twist. The staff attention was outstanding; I went with my fiancée and they make us feel very comfortable. One of the best part, when they offered us a bagaço 🫡

Restaurant
Bacalhau, a Portuguese salt cod dish, is a national favorite and can be found in various forms across Lisbon. The fish is slowly cooked in olive oil to maintain its succulence and flavor. With over 80 different varieties of cod available off the coast, it can be prepared in numerous ways such as Bacalhau a Bras, Bacalhau a Gomes de Sa, Bacalhau com Natas, and pataniscas.
Nice service, positive faces. We went 2 times during our Lisbon trip. Delicious food, good wine and reasonable prices. Thanks and hello to my beautiful lady waitress (sorry I forgot her name)

Very friendly local environment, good food, reasonably priced, came here 3 times in 5 days just to try out all their famous dishes... highly recommended! My Recommendation: Bacalhau in cream sauce Portueguese steak Grilled octopus Grilled Bacalhau - it's a shame that they overcooked the cod 😭 4 star for food for this reason...

Visit if you want Portuguese food :) I ordered [Alentejana Soup], which was very unique interesting soup with soaked bread and egg. [Piri-piri Chicken] tasted as expected and [Lagareiro Grilled Codfish] was my first grilled fish in Lisbon, which was a great success! All paired well with green wine :) super recommend

The food was good Good to try local food It’s usually a problem when the recipes are local for tourist to be sure what they order (menu with photos could help) since part of the personnel didn’t speak English We sat outside so the service was slower but ok

We found this Restaurant via Google and the food was really delicious 😍🤩also the Service was outstanding friendly and we also had a really nice bottle of vino verde 🥂the price is very fair! - all in all a 10/10 recommendation!

Rosa O — Google review
The food quality was awful. Very disappointed since the ratings seem so high for the restaurant? The servers were lovely, but we did not even get napkins. The steak (the Portuguese way) looked that of cafeteria food, plus undercooked. The octopus was overcooked and salted. I immediately felt my stomach churn despite giving it a shot, as not all good food looks presentable. This missed the mark. If you see the restaurant is empty, there is a good reason for it (we were the only ones there). Tourist trap

Piri-Piri chicken is a popular grilled dish in Portugal, known for its distinctive chili glaze. It can be found in many restaurants and churrasqueiras, where you can choose between a whole or half chicken with or without the spicy sauce. The piri-piri pepper, which gives the dish its heat, originates from Portugal's former African colonies like Mozambique and Angola. There are specialized restaurants that offer dishes featuring this famous pepper.
Finally an authentic Portuguese restaurant in the center of town. The menu is in many languages, but the wait staff are local and the food is what you would expect a local to have at dinner. I had beef in port sauce served with homemade fries and white rice and bread to soak up the sauce. Delicious and for under 15€ including coffee.

After trying the viral/popular chicken places in Lisbon, I think this place tops them! The flavours were authentic, flavourful, tasty and packed a punch (if you choose to get spicy)! A lovely man served us! And you just know the food is going to be good when there’s a random customer sitting in a corner on his Acer laptop surfing the internet! 🤣
Shimona R — Google review
Oh my word!! The fish (we called them smelt in Canada) were AMAZING!! Light and delicately fried, but not at all over-cooked, so the meat just fell off the bones. Picture attached to prove. Just absolutely wonderful. Random place, at the end of a trolly ride. Perfect.
Matthew D — Google review
The food was authentic purtogese. The pri pri sauce was really good, spicy and hot. The staff was friendly and everything seems to be prepared when ordered which was nice. You may come here for a good local cusisne experience by the city center
Mahmood A — Google review
Terrible experience. Would not recommend to anyone. Let’s start with the food — it was just awful. The potatoes were undercooked. The sea bass we ordered was completely burnt — black, dry, and tasteless, like charcoal. The salad looked like someone hastily chopped it up at home — two sad tomato slices, some grated carrot, and a pile of bland leaves. No oil, no seasoning, no dressing whatsoever. We also ordered mussels — what they brought us was a joke. So tiny, they barely measured a centimeter. Honestly, we thought it was either a mistake or a bad joke. The service was downright unacceptable. The waiter looked annoyed from the moment we walked in, never smiled, and acted like he just wanted us to leave as quickly as possible. Food took around 40 minutes to arrive — with no apology or explanation. And the worst part? The bill. It included items we never ordered: bread, spreads, butter, and olives. We assumed it was a complimentary starter, as often happens in Portugal — but they charged us €1–3 for every single item. When we said we hadn’t ordered it, we were completely ignored and handed the final bill. Bottom line: poorly cooked food, rude service, and a sneaky attempt to overcharge us. Avoid at all costs.
Vladyslav L — Google review
Wanted to kick off my Lisbon food journey with piri-piri chicken. I went for the Chacoal grilled chicken while my friend ordered the famous Bacalhau com Natas (Codfish in Cream). The chicken was delicious, though I was secretly expecting it to be marinated in piri-piri sauce before grilling, blame the YouTube recipe videos I binged before coming. Instead, the piri-piri arrives on the side. Friendly warning: it’s not for the faint of heart. That sauce packs serious heat, so approach it like a dare. Portion-wise, the chicken seems to be on the small side. Tip for fellow meat lovers: don’t be shy, just order the whole bird, you’ll handle it, no problem. The codfish was also tasty, creamy, and comforting, so sharing bites felt like winning the dinner lottery. The service was genuinely friendly, and I liked that the room was buzzing with both locals and tourists. Always a good sign. One note: mains aren’t huge, so grabbing a starter is a smart move. Prices are fair compared to other Lisbon restaurants, so your wallet won’t cry. Overall, tasty food, cozy vibes, and spicy sauce that deserves its own warning label.

A nice neighborhood restaurant with reasonable prices, excellent beer on tap
Martin H — Google review
Chicken was ok but quite dry and not much meat on the bone. Some pieces were nearly all bone. Be careful of the plate of breads/cheeses they give after you order. They charge you for each piece you touched individually and also there was a service charge added on top. What seemed like reasonable prices from the menu came out to be much more with all the additional charges.

Nestled in the heart of Lisbon on Rua dos Sapateiros, Marisqueira Uma is a charming seafood haven that has captured the hearts of both locals and visitors alike. While the menu may be limited to just a handful of options like omelets, steaks, and cod, it’s clear why this spot stands out: their renowned seafood rice. This dish is often hailed as one of the best in the city and draws crowds eager to indulge in its rich flavors.
Great taste of the garlic shrimp! The first time to drink a cup of green wine with sparking, suitable for launch. And juicy seafood rice with kinds of fresh seafood. When I walk by in the raining, the restaurant really provide a warm and cozy experience in my trip. Thanks Asuka, Jeni, and Roze.
Susan W — Google review
This place has a lean menu but a great one! I enjoyed the seafood rice thoroughly, they have single portions which is great for solo travelers. The ladies Asuka, Jeni, Rozee were also great, the service was good! I was not used to the tools they provided for cracking the crab and they so kindly taught me how to use it, and even tucked an extra napkin into my shirt for me!
Shu — Google review
Asuka and Jenifer are our waitress. We have two people and luckily there was no queue for us. The seafood rice is veryy very good (we have basically cleaned up the pot, not a single rice is left 真的太好吃了, 蟹肉啊, 蝦阿, 飯粒全部吃乾抹淨)! And their service are also very good, too. They are kind and nice. At the end we even got a treat with the Jinga (櫻桃利口酒) which is also very tasty! 😋 I attach a photo where I take three spoons out of the spot, so it is clearer what is contained.

Our friends took us here — they said it’s their favorite place in Lisbon. And now we know why! Wonderful meal! Wonderful staff! Pooja made our experience even better. We ordered the Arroz de Marisco and not a single morsel was left - LOL!
Judy O — Google review
Uma Marisquera is an absolute gem, and their Seafood Rice (Arroz de Marisco) is easily the best I've ever tasted. Beyond the incredible cuisine, the experience was elevated by the fantastic team running the show. Sajan and Jeni are, without a doubt, the best hosts in the business. They made us feel instantly welcome, provided impeccable service, and genuinely cared that we had a wonderful dining experience. Their warmth and attentive nature truly make Uma Marisquera feel like dining at a friend's home.

Amazing local seafood rice, like wow, we finished the whole pot and garlic shrimp and still want more. Nice service, Jennifer was checking our order timely and welcomed us nicely. Definitely worth a taste!

The most authentic restaurant in Lisbon! The food was absolutely delicious and the service was outstanding. The waiters were kind, friendly, and very attentive — they even offered us a complimentary liqueur at the end of our meal. We felt truly welcome and cared for. Out of all the restaurants we visited during our holiday, this was by far the best experience. Highly recommend visiting — it’s something you won’t forget! 🇵🇹✨
Maria S — Google review
The food here was amazing, they have a simple menu but they do it so well. I'd recommend skipping the bread, but for the seafood rice, it is a must get. My only complaint with it is that it was gone to soon! It was great and would have loved if it came with more rice. Be prepared to wait at least 30 minutes as thats how long the preparation of the dish is. The food is super enjoyable though so worth it. Atmosphere wise, it is very much small and quaint. The chairs they use are hard so sitting down for a long period of time does take it's toll. Overall, this was a great experience and would recommend it to anyone !

Restaurant
Nestled in the heart of Lisbon's Chiado district, Belcanto is a culinary gem that beautifully marries tradition with innovation. Under the visionary guidance of renowned chef Jose Avillez, this chic wood-paneled restaurant has evolved into a gastronomic haven for those eager to explore the depths of Portuguese cuisine. With an ever-evolving menu that showcases modern interpretations of classic dishes, diners can expect delightful surprises like the artistic Skate Jackson Pollock and the playful Inverted Martini.
Absolutely phenomenal experience dining at Belcanto last night. The staff here are pretty exceptional and made us feel right at home. From the start, they clearly described the menu and how to night would run. They were very attentive throughout the evening and ensured they gave us enough space at the same time. We even took a break half way through the meal which they were very accommodating. The food was fantastic, each dish delivered was very well presented and the flavours were spot on. Not overly complicated but fresh and well balanced. Lots of fish dishes which we love. The restaurant itself is stunning, just the right noise level where we didn't feel like we were in a library and had to whisper like in other restaurants we have been to. We ended up chatted to the couple beside us who were also enjoying the experience like us. We will most certainly be back on our next visit to Lisbon.

Excellent service! The atmosphere in the restaurant was quite good, but it lacked intimacy. The cuisine was not impressive at all. Some dishes looked beautiful, others not so much. In terms of taste, nothing was truly surprising. The basic wine pairing was extremely mediocre and definitely not worth ordering. The wines were just lifeless.
Sergey — Google review
Well deserved Michelin star. We ordered from the A La Carte menu & were surprised with all the snacks in between the meals. Everything was presented and cooked to perfection. The matured sirloin was amazing ! All the meals came out in a timely manner. The service itself was great and attentive to detail. This experience was exceptional and I would come back again !

Belcanto is definitely unique — and definitely unexpected. If you’re open to extremely creative food (like bacon ice cream) and ready to pay top euros for an artistic dining experience, this is the place for you. One thing I really appreciated was the presentation: before every dish, we were given a small card with a hint about what was coming next. At the end of the meal, those cards were gathered and handed to me in a beautifully scented envelope — a lovely and memorable touch. Another highlight was the short tour through the kitchen before dinner. It was a surprise and something I’ve never experienced before — a very personal and engaging start to the evening. If I could make one suggestion, it would be to inform guests in advance how many dishes are included in the tasting menu. We weren’t too hungry when we arrived and decided to try the full menu anyway, but at some point in the middle, we stopped enjoying the food simply because we were so full and had no idea how many courses were still to come. Also, the bread portions could be smaller — many guests seemed to leave them almost untouched, which likely leads to unnecessary waste. Overall, Belcanto is a remarkable restaurant that blends art and cuisine in a truly creative way. Still, while I enjoy inventive flavors and bold combinations, I tend to prefer meals that stay a bit closer to the familiar side. I’m glad I experienced it once — it’s unforgettable — but it’s probably not a place I would return to.

What a wonderful experience we had for my birthday. I am glad to choose Belcanto for this year celebration. The 9 course tasting was phenomenal. Belcanto experiments creatively with its dishes, offering unique and interesting flavour combinations. My favourite was the scarlet shrimp dish. I also loved the use of small visual cards to introduce each course, which added a thoughtful and artistic touch.

Tavern
Taberna Sal Grosso, a contemporary tavern near Santa Apolonia train station, offers inventive Portuguese petiscos that put a unique twist on traditional recipes. The menu features dishes like stewed pork cheeks with apple and celery puree and chicken with suckling pig sauce, showcasing the fusion of familiar flavors with unexpected ingredients.
Advisable to book 2-3 days in advance, because this quaint space have very limited seats with too amazing food. We're so lucky to still secure a spot being second on the waitlist at 8pm, on our final night in Lisbon. FOH is super charming and hospitable. They make the BEST sangria ever and yet the highlight of the dinner is us overspending close to £50 to order extra dishes - still didn’t make it to finish their entire menu as we wished.

Came here for lunch with a reservation. Small establishment so I would highly recommend making a reservation. Food was very good and came in generous portions. We didn’t expect to enjoy the tomato salad as much as we did. Succulent sweet tomatoes balanced perfectly w the salty ham and cheese and the subtle sweetness of the figs. The garlic prawns were very fresh and very tasty. The sauce was a little too salty though. The octopus was also very well cooked, very fresh, again, a bit too salty. The sweet potato mash was delicious too. Great meal overall, would have been perfect if it was less salty.

This tends to be one of the most recommended restaurants in Lisbon and for good reason. It’s pretty small and you should get a reservation, but I’ve been able to walk in 2 years in a row and get seated (they open at 7 and second seating at 9 so I’d try going around 8 for a small party walk in). It’s cute inside, service is great, food is modern Portuguese. It’s fresh and delicious and definitely worth a visit

This is a fantastic restaurant with mouthwatering dishes! We tried the roasted cheese with honey (literally was amazing) and bread, beef cheeks (super tender and fell apart as soon as you put your fork in it), octopus with sweet potatoes (our absolute favorite!!) and tomato salad with ham and figs! It was all so delicious and the presentation was excellent. You MUST make a reservation in advance here and don’t hesitate to come during a weird hour like 3:30pm, which is when it’s a little more empty because they only allow so many reservations before they close the restaurant for dinner hours.

Pls make a reservation- it seems like it’s always fully booked. Cute little place with best Sangria! Fried baby squid was good n savory. Fries decent- saffron rice was tangy- and pork cheeks with tomato migas was not my cup of tea… very tender tho- wanna try other dishes next time if I get a chance.

The taste of the food is amazing. I went there on my own and ordered in total 3 main dishes and 1 starter. That speaks volumes. However is difficult to get a reservation because it’s a tiny restaurant so it’s better to reserve at least days ahead. Without a reservation you will most likely b rejected at the door.
Haochen Z — Google review
Food was well done and flavourful , small dishes but filling . My favourite was the octopus with sweet potato. Staff were polite but aloof. Room was cozy and comfortable. Recommended to make reservations ahead of time

This was our second time dining at Taberna Sal Grosso, and honestly, we loved every single dish! Just a heads up—there are limited seats, so I’d definitely recommend booking online in advance. We actually had to come for lunch instead because the dinner slots were all full. The octopus and beef cheek are always the most memorable dishes for us; along with bottles of sangria! The staff were super friendly, and overall, it’s one of the best restaurants we visited during our trip to Portugal.

Nestled in the vibrant Baixa-Chiado district, Taberna da Rua das Flores is a charming eatery that captures the essence of contemporary Portuguese cuisine. As you stroll along Rua das Flores during dinner time, you'll likely spot a lively queue of eager diners ready to indulge in some of the most inventive petiscos around. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with artisanal products adorning the shelves, creating a cozy yet traditional vibe.
I loved this place! First of all, they don't take reservations and only accept cash. There is a serious queue in a short time, so go accordingly. The dishes are served in small pieces. The menu changes seasonally, weekly. There is no menu, the waiter comes to the table with Portuguese written on a board and explains it quickly and one by one. We loved everything we ate. Especially the octopus was amazing. Have a coffee and definitely eat the chocolate mousse with it. It was the best I've ever had! The prices are definitely worth the food.

Very good menu. Its the detail that's great on their dishes. The oil on the scallops was very interesting, maybe a dash of a nut oil. The tomato salad had a very nice white wine vinegar. The chard goat cheese was perfect for dessert. I would recommend that over any of their desserts. Very happy with the meal. Cash only held back our ordering...
Nicole S — Google review
Wonderful, varied flavored sauces made for a very pleasurable meal. No reservations, cash only, wait at the front door to be seated! Old school. The sauces on each of our four dishes: scallops, flounder, shrimp and squid were different and all had layers of flavor making the sauces impossible to not spoon out finish all of the sauce. The shrimp dish was especially memorable, with a bit of a sweet sauce with just a touch of chili heat, and then the squid, with a more earthy sauce, that was also excellent. Service was very friendly and patient in explaining all the dishes on the board. Cost was very reasonable. Went early, no wait, by 7pm it was packed. Definitely worth a visit.

Amazing Authentic Portuguese Experience at Taberna da Rua das Flores! Taberna da Rua das Flores is truly one of Lisbon’s hidden gems! From the moment you step inside, you feel the warm and lively atmosphere of a real Portuguese tavern — cozy, charming, and full of character. The food is absolutely incredible — every dish feels like a creative twist on traditional Portuguese flavors. The menu changes daily, which makes each visit a new experience, but everything I tried was fresh, perfectly balanced, and beautifully presented. The sardines, the cod dishes, and the seasonal tapas were all outstanding. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about what they do. They took the time to explain the dishes and recommend excellent wine pairings. It’s a small and very popular place, so expect to wait a little — but trust me, it’s worth every minute. If you’re in Lisbon and want to taste authentic, soulful Portuguese cuisine in a unique atmosphere, Taberna da Rua das Flores is a must-visit. Highly recommended!

The food was delicious and staff very friendly. Loved the slow food approach, one dish at the time, so you can try various things and enjoy the food and hanging out with friends. Octopus was so soft, and goat cheese excellent, and don’t get me started on scampi. All in all, love the place
Marta S — Google review
Average food with complicated menu and extremely rude staff. The place is nice but all the menu performance is long and unnecessary, you don’t remember half the things. The short guy with black hair was so rude and disrespectful, I’ve never been treated like that before, the music was so so loud that we asked to turn it down a little so he did and five minutes later he turned it up again and we asked again, he did. Did happened 4 times! And every time he would be super rude and just before we left he came to say “is the music ok now?” So disrespectful and mean. The girl was super super nice and felt ashamed of his attitude so she was extra nice. The food was nothing amazing and we tried almost everything, the menu is such a boring thing. They bring huge board and explain each thing , after 4 explanations you don’t remember the first, just the names of the food are very self explanatory. Wouldn’t recommend this place. The guy ruined the experience with the loud music and attitude. We felt bad for the girl and left a food tip just for her.

One of our best meals in Lisbon. Arrived Saturday when they opened for lunch, no line, didn’t get busy for a while. Scallops, shrimp, and mushrooms were all fantastic - each had a nice, interesting twist on really classic dishes and Portuguese flavors that made it stand out among everything else we ate.
Alison — Google review
A highlight of our Lisbon’s adventure; the food was amazing - small portions to share which gives the opportunity to taste different platters. The wine was great as well as the dessert. A bit of improvement might be done in regards the staff approach as at first they could seem unfriendly; though once seated we had a good experience.

The Bifanas of Afonso is a must-try when it comes to Portuguese cuisine. This popular pork fillet sandwich is known for its simple yet delicious taste, with the standout feature being the sauce in which the meat is marinated and sautéed. The restaurant, located just a short walk from Prado restaurant, serves some of the best pork sandwiches in town and is a favorite spot for those seeking authentic Portuguese snacks.
While researching I came across this place and it certainly did not disappoint. We weren’t extremely hungry so we just ordered one Bifana and one chocolate mousse. Around 5 pm was when we went and there was a very small line. I’d recommend going in between meal times to take advantage of the shorter wait times. It completely lived up to my expectations, and I would definitely return. The bifana itself had perfect chewy bread and with the meat it was heaven. The chocolate mousse was also delicious, and it was super light but not too sweet. I would definitely return!
Kate A — Google review
Following the review from some of the YouTubers and we gave it a tried. For $3, I can say this can be one of the best, reasonable price for lunch. Nothing special about the pork meat but the bun and the sauce was 🤤 delicious. This is a place you should visit if you don't want to spend too much for lunch and have more time to explore the area around. Thank you
Eric D — Google review
Great meal or snack mid day. They were super fast, kind with tourists and we enjoyed that we were able to have a good Portuguese food on the go. Took 10 minutes from entering the line to getting our bifanas (the line had about 15 people in it), as there’s a small courtyard you can sit in, although it can be busy
Jenelle — Google review
Cash only place The bifanas here are very tasty! They're more flavorful and you can really taste the wine and spices. The pork is less tender than other places but it's still very good. The bread can be a bit too floury. There can be a huge line-up so if you see a short line-up, goooo. The Patanisca de Bacalhau (fish fillet sandwich) is a cold fish fillet sandwich which is a bit odd, but the fish is tasty. I wouldn't say get that unless you really wanted to try it. This place also has Super Bock on tap! You can get a big or small size, and the small size is perfect for me for a lunch drink. Be sure to give this place a try if you're getting bifanas!
HTS L — Google review
Small takeout place for a Portuguese specialty, the Bifansa (stewed pork sandwich). Only 3 euros for the regular sandwich or 5 with cheese. Great portion size and definitely fantastic value at this price point. Highly recommend for a quick bite to eat. You can also add some chili oil and mustard. The bun was nice and soft too. Would definitely get it again!
Mark C — Google review
Long queue, goes quite quick though, €3 for a basic bufana that is quite filling and hot too. Ordered and served in about 2/3 minutes which was great. Definitely recommend adding on the mustard on the side, just takes it to another level, pork is tender and pairs well with the bread. Would gladly come back again and again.

A simple yet fantastic dish! Juicy and extremely tasty meat, cooked in a delicious broth. Topped with mustard — it’s a must-try in Lisbon!

It’s tasty and flavourful though I don’t think the spicy oil is spicy as all the other comments said🤣just €3 for a pork burger feel like nth else I could asked for haha! Would love to try their chocolate mousse if I am not that full!

This charming spot invites diners to savor an array of exquisite tapas, or petiscos, crafted from fresh local ingredients. Flavor combinations like no other. The Chef’s Marinade is an absolute must. Everything on the menu is astounding. Put yourself in Nunu’s hands and feel no pain; just let him bring you the wine. Our highest recommendation. Utmost compliments to the chef. Reservations essential.

Don't think twice, this place is a must. The food is the next level you can find in Portugal. The staff is so friendly and ambience is like original small restaurant, but really comfortable and well designed. Enjoy the dishes to share, plenty of taste and options.

This place was an unexpected find. I am new to Portuguese cuisine and Tasca Da Esquina has just set the bench mark for me. I never experienced such a mix of flavours that goes so well together. Who would have thought Iberian pork would have tasted so good cooked with fresh clams in white wine & garlic sauce. I also never expected perfected baked grilled octopus to go so well with sweet potatoes and almonds. The other component that made this place so special, their service staff. All of them attentive, friendly, jovial and helpful. Really enjoyed our meal here. Our first visit to Lisbon, and our best meal yet.

Chance upon this place. Didn’t wait long for a table and we were welcome with bread, cheese, olives and meat. The tuna tartare was well marinated with a bite from pistachios. Ordered the octopus which came grilled and really tender. Served with sweet potatoes. Pork with cabbage and claims that tasted so good. Never had anything similar elsewhere. Local flavors with great service.

Enjoyed tapas with a group of 6. We tried a variety of dishes and enjoyed them all. Especially enjoyed the Portuguese sausages, tuna tartar and octopus. Service was excellent and friendly across the staff with special mention to Nuno who went above and beyond to ensure we enjoyed the evening. Highly recommend!

6 out of 5 stars for service. But food is sadly overrated esp for the price point. Thr atmosphere is also quite uncomfortable given that indoor and outdoor area has hard any divide, cigarettes fumes easily entered the indoor area. A surprising amount of mosquito too. We were charged €12 for a covert consisting of 4 pieces of thin bread, one vodka shot cup’s worth of very standard olive, plus one tiny portion of butter. The kitchen service was chaotic, a few tables arriving much later were served their starter and meal way before we were. The octopus was well cooked, however it is excessively salty and must be balanced out by the sauce accompanying, which is offered in a very low amount. There are better locations to enjoy octopus even within campo de ourique, offering better price quality ratio, less overcrowding, amongst smoke and buzzing mosquitos .

Sardinha is a charming restaurant in Lisbon that offers an amazing dining experience. The grilled sardines are particularly noteworthy, reminiscent of the ones enjoyed in Algiers. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, with a mix of locals and tourists enjoying authentic Portuguese cuisine. The service is excellent, and the portions are generous for the price. While the owner may not speak English or Spanish, the warm hospitality shines through.
I have been trying to have the full on Portuguese experience that I have been living in Lisbon for over two years now. So I asked a Portuguese friend of mine to recommend a Tasca that’s value for money but has great food. Well my friend didn’t let me down! This place was great. No thrills but the local husband wife combo (service and chef) made my time here a great one. The photos of my food might look super basic but it’s one of my favorites under €10 meals I have had since I have been here.

Fantastic sardines and sword fish. Super simple but delicious.the sword fish was juicy with a subtle lemon dressing and the he sardines were the best we had in Lisbon. Service was quick and friendly. A no frills tasca with delicious food and cold beers.

Went for the mixed meat platter which was good. Declined bread ( which is extra )as would of been too much food. Service was friendly. However..... very disappointed with the bill when it had "pastel de bacalo" added to it ! Questioned this and was told it was service! An extra 7e for this, really not sure about that, so left a sour taste , be warned . This spolit what would of been a good lunch .

A true Portuguese gem! 🇵🇹✨ Here, you’ll taste the real Portugal. Fantastic traditional food in a small, cozy, family-run restaurant. The kind of place with real soul that’s hard to find these days. If you’re looking for authentic, home-style dishes made with love in a warm and welcoming atmosphere at an unbeatable price, this is the place to go. The sardines are simply the best I’ve ever had, and the feijoada is one of the finest in all of Portugal! Sr. Duarte and his wife, Dona Alda, run the restaurant entirely on their own, they’re truly wonderful people who make you feel like part of the family. And be understanding and patient if you have to wait for your food, the couple runs the restaurant by themselves and truly does their best. If you’re in Lisbon, don’t miss this genuine experience. Obrigado Sr. Duarte e Dona Alda❤️

Local spot run by an older couple. We dined during lunch at a busy time and were told there was no more fish, and only chicken on the menu. The chicken was just very okay and came with two scoops of rice. The gentleman gave us bread which we didn’t ask for and then charged us for the bread AND butter. Overall the experience is of a local one but the food and service are not great.

Comida Independente is a charming gem nestled in the heart of Principe Real, reminiscent of traditional Portuguese grocery stores. Owner Rita Santos has passionately traveled throughout the country to curate a collection that includes everything from artisanal sausages and cheeses to honey and fresh vegetables. During the day, Comida Independente operates as an organic food and wine shop where visitors can explore its diverse offerings.
An absolutely SUPERB place. Not cheap, but quality! We had some glorious fizz, a great white wine and a beautiful IPA, and an amazing plate of burrata, with fig, chilli, and nectarine (yes really) served with some fantastic sourdough The owner was delightful, and the whole team were brilliant. Fun, engaging, enthusiastic service with a smile. We might well be back tomorrow..... 😃 Thank you!!

Burrata was good but not as rich as on previous reviews. Was strange to see how sardines were touch with hands at another side of the counter (hope very clean and washed carefully). Chairs are very uncomfortable, the whole place is not tidy. Check your bill twice as we got extra wine and meal to pay :(((

We stopped into Comida Independente for a quick bite to eat. While the food menu is pretty limited, I’d highly recommend ordering the pastrami sandwich. The bread and meat were fantastic, along with the pickles and mustard topping. We ordered a few rounds of wine as well which were delicious.

Truly a lovely little wine bar/store. The people there are very nice and they have a great selection of wine, both to drink and to buy for later. We’ve already been a couple times during our short stay in Lisbon, and we plan to go once more to get some bottles for the road. If you like wine, especially natural wine, you’ve gotta check it out!

Exploring Lisbon on foot is the way to go, all these little alleys and backstreets, you don't know what you'll find. Trying to escape the 40°C heat we were hoping for a drink and some AC, and after dipping off the main street, found Comida Independente. Charming little deli / wine-shop / wine-bar that served food and drinks at exceptionally reasonable prices. We had the Burrata (not pictured) and I went for some local Orange wine. Top stuff. Service was friendly in this small space. Most who walk in aren't sure what to do - is it a shop? Is it a bar? Who knows. You do a lap and get the vibe, then take a seat. I left with some 100ml hand-luggage friendly hot sauces, and a spring in my step to embrace the cooler end of the day. Excellent spot.

Super cute corner to enjoy a glass of wine with some nice food pairing! The pastrami sandwich is an experience that you shouldn’t miss! The glass options for wine is nice but they have a great wine collection for bottles. The charcutería is great and you can basically make a nice plate as a choice of yours!

Chorizo and pastrami sandwiches were outstanding, we also enjoyed burrata with super fresh tomatoes with amazing aroma. This was the only place we didn't have seafood in Portugal and we really liked it. The suggested orange wine was pleasant and interesting, though keep in mind they have fewer classical wine options.

I wish I could eat this pastrami sandwich again right now because it was that good. The burrata drowning in olive oil sprinkled in salt and pepper was also delicious. Nestled near the Lavra elevator in downtown Lisbon, Solar dos Presuntos is a culinary gem that showcases the best of traditional Portuguese cuisine. Since its establishment in 1974, this restaurant has become a beloved destination for both business lunches and family gatherings. The inviting atmosphere is perfect for enjoying an array of dishes featuring fresh fish and seafood alongside hearty meat options, all served in a warm, family-style setting.
An Unforgettable Dining Experience at Solar dos Presuntos From start to finish, our visit to Solar dos Presuntos was nothing short of exceptional. The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between tradition and elegance, setting the stage for what turned out to be a truly memorable meal. We started with a selection of tapas and cheeses, each bursting with authentic Portuguese flavors — a perfect way to awaken the palate. The lobster soup was rich, velvety, and packed with flavor, easily one of the best we’ve ever tasted. And then came the star of the meal: a perfectly cooked medium steak, tender, juicy, and seasoned to perfection. Every bite was a reminder of the kitchen’s skill and attention to detail. Beyond the incredible food, what really stood out was the impeccable service. The staff was professional, friendly, and genuinely passionate about what they do. Attentive without being overbearing, they made us feel welcome and well cared for throughout the entire evening. Solar dos Presuntos delivers not just a meal, but a full culinary experience.

Amazing restaurant! Definitely deserves a 5 star rating. The atmosphere and environment in the restaurant was top quality. The food is traditional Portuguese and will not disappoint, it was some of the best I've had in any restaurant in Lisbon. Considering the quality, I would say the restaurant is reasonably priced. It was around 25-35 euros for mains with the portions being very generous. I'll definitely be back soon!

A true high-end dining experience in Lisbon! The atmosphere is fantastic, featuring a wall full of celebrity photos, which adds a touch of glamour. We ordered the grilled sea bass for three, and it was absolutely outstanding—perfectly cooked, flaky, and exceptionally tasty. For dessert, I tried the famous "Grandma's Secret Recipe (since 1974)". It was wonderfully creamy, though perhaps a tad on the sweet side for my personal taste. Overall, the food quality is top-tier and well worth the price. Highly recommend. P.S. I found this restaurant via Google Gemini AI, you also could try it ;)

The food, the staff and the atmosphere were all amazing! This is the place if you are looking for authentic Portuguese food in a semi-formal environment. I love how they bring out the seafood all on a platter and you choose which ones you want them to cut and cook. It’s a fancy place but not too fancy (saw families with small kids as well). The food was excellent. The cod fish is a bit salty. Be aware. Bernardo Allegro the waiter and the entire staff, did an excellent job! He did inform us that the cod dish was salty but we had to try for ourselves. The steaks were fabulous, I highly recommend ordering one of the steaks. You can't go wrong with a good steak and they certainly know what they are doing. We had an excellent bottle of local wine, Verde vino the waiter had chosen for us. Service was impacable. The waiters are very proffessional and for sure they know their job well. For sure I recommend this restaurant. Thank you Bernardo A. for a wonderful meal and a great experience!

This Michelin-starred gem, helmed by the charismatic chef Ljubomir Stanisic—often compared to Gordon Ramsay for his bold personality and innovative flair—offers an unforgettable dining experience.
We are a group of seven people. Staff kindly set up a table for all of us and gave us top top service. It's unusual to spend €600 for dinner here in Lisboa... but it can add up when the wine doesn't stop flowing (how fun!). The dishes were superb and the style of shared sides is a lot of fun to get more variety.

We went to have lunch on a Saturday. This place is a little bit magical and unexpected. The entrance tells you since the beginning that there’s something different in this place. We ordered some croquettes, the Bosniazinha, and black pork T bone. Each one of the dishes were very well prepared and with amazing taste. The wines, amazing, the sommelier really knows what he was doing and suggesting. For dessert we had creme brûlée and tufahija with vanilla ice cream. Both of them with great taste, quantity and not so sweet. The restaurant and atmosphere is great, each floor is with different decoration and atmosphere. Is with to visit each one of them. The wine “cellar” is astonishing. Definitely if you are around Chiado is a place that is worth to try and enjoy. You won’t regret it.

We stopped in here late at night for a quick cocktail, as I had seen their menu online and it seemed intriguing. The bartender was fantastic, very accommodating, and skilled at his job. The cocktails were certainly different, and not necessarily in a bad way. Just strange in a fun way. It's a well-designed space. We understandably couldn't try any food as it was almost near closing, so I can't speak to that. There were some other employees there that caused a bit of difficulty to us (I think they wanted to close quickly), but the bartender did an excellent job of calming them down and not ruining the experience for us as we hurriedly finished up. (We felt bad for keeping him even though it said it was open for longer.) I'd say if you're here for a meal, definitely give the signature cocktails a try!

From the staff to the surroundings, we had the opportunity to try the private room for a family lunch, it was just awesome. Fancy food but served by competent and friendly staff that make all the difference during the entire process. It was a great lunch and hope to go there again sometime

Amazing! From the first till last moment we enjoyed it. We walked in and luckily they had space. The lady who greeted us at the entrance was very sweet and helpful. We got to our table and they communicated that my girlfriend was vegetarian (i told them when i asked for the menu at the entrance) and were greeted bij super hospitable servers. The sommelier helped us with 2 amazing bottles of wines which we loved. Perfectly fitted to our wishes. The explanation of the menu was clear and the suggestion of 2-3 starters together to share were perfect. We ordered 4 starters (it was too much therefore listen to their suggestions haha) and they were lovely. The starters touched all the sweet spots and where toughtful, surprising and very very vega friendly. As a main we ordered an amazing vegetarian pasta which was superb. The other main course we ordered was the steak with foie gras and fresh black truffle. I work in hospitality and have been to many high end places where service is key, the food is amazing and the overall experience is amazing. But this main course, this amazing main course was the best i have EVER had, the cousion was amazing, the foie gras melted like butter with an amazing crispy outside en the jus de veaux with it was so deep in flavour it brought tears to my eyes. This is a must visit in Lisbon and i would highly recommend this to everyone. Thanks again and i know where i’m headed whenever i’m back in Lisbon! Obrigado❤️

We're on our honeymoon and decided to spoil ourselves with this restaurant, but we really struggled with the very long wait time to get food on our table. People who came after us were served and left long before us. I really enjoyed their beetroot and mostly liked the food, but it didn't match the price per dish and service. It's just a shame because there's so much potential. The online menu and menu posted outside of the restaurant is not updated.

A Licorista e O Bacalhoeiro is a restaurant in Baixa, Lisbon that was formed by the union of a traditional liquor factory and a codfish shop. It's known for its Portuguese dishes, particularly the Bacalhau a minhota and Bacalhau a Bras. The restaurant offers good-value fish and meat dishes, with excellent cod options. The atmosphere is lively and casual, offering refreshing and affordable wines.
Stumbled upon this place for lunch by chance, and we are immensely impressed by the warm service rendered through our meal! We ordered Grilled Squid and Grilled Sea Bass. Both dishes were packed with flavours in each mouth we took, and the dishes are paired with tasty sautéed cabbages, and boiled carrots and broccoli. Definitely worth the space of your tummy!

Friendly staff and very experienced waiter. But the food was slightly disappointing because I ordered their house steak with medium, but it came quite well done. They let me know that the steak was not grilled but fried so I’m prepared for having a not usual steak. But the well done texture and soupy base doesn’t help with the taste. I let the waiter know and he took my dish immediately and apologised. After about 10 minutes with the dish come back to me. The steak was on the medium rare side than medium. And the gave me the crisp and egg from my old dish, which I was expecting a new dish to be honest. Quite awkward situation, friendly staff but won’t recommend.

🐙The grilled sardines & octopus that locals rave about🍴 While staying in Baixa, Lisbon, I followed a local tip and found A Licorista e O Bacalhoeiro around the corner from my apartment. I was dining by myself, craving fresh seafood and Portuguese soul—and this place delivered good value, fresh ingredients, and friendly service. Founded in 1917, this spot combines two historic Lisbon houses: O Bacalhoeiro (once a codfish shop) and A Licorista (a liquor store, Companhia Portugueza de Licores). In 1997, they were joined into one restaurant that honors both heritages. I ordered grilled sardine with rice and salad. For starter, octopus, that the waiter placed on the table. Both were tasty: the sardine fresh and perfectly grilled, the rice salad light, and the octopus had great texture. Here are their top dishes that others rave about (and what you should consider trying): • Bacalhau à Brás — classic shredded salt cod with onions, eggs, and potatoes, beloved comfort-food in Lisbon. • Bacalhau à Minhota — bacalhau served “Minhota style” with onions, maybe cream or sauce, potatoes; a standout version here. • Octopus salad / Polvo salad — tender octopus with olive oil and sides; a great starter or lighter meal. Pros 👍 • Historic & charming setting with a strong sense of Lisbon tradition. • Fresh seafood & well-prepared dishes; my sardine & octopus were solid. • Knowledgeable staff who know the menu and can suggest dishes. • Reasonably priced for central Lisbon; portions satisfying. Cons 👎 • Outdoor / street area around the restaurant can be noisy or feel busy. • Sometimes popular items sell out (e.g. certain fish or seafood rice) if you come late. • Some starters are automatically brought (and charged) if you don’t decline politely. Key Takeaways: • Good value and it’s local. • Don’t leave without trying a bacalhau dish (Bacalhau à Brás or à Minhota are musts). • Ask staff what is freshest today—they often have catch-of-day options. • Arrive early (just after opening) for better picks and fewer crowds. Dining at A Licorista e O Bacalhoeiro turned a solo meal into a warm taste with simple dishes, sincere service, and flavors you’ll want to come back for. 🙂

Nice food and service! The fish cataplana was rich with deep fish flavors and a great mix of different kinds of fish, which was delicious. The octopus salad was also very refreshing and appetizing. Overall, everything was excellent, especially the great service from Sashwot and the lady, who are super friendly . A truly satisfying experience!

Great service!! Excellent food 🫶 I order the bacalhau a bras and it was amazing. Super filling. The house white wine was cheap and delicious. And at the end I got gifted a shot of digestive wine on the house. Do yourself a favor and pay them a visit!

Celso was wonderful—he gave great feedback on questions about the menu, was kind, and attentive. The octopus salad as well as the seafood and rice were divine 😋 Also, and I know it’s technically cheating in wine rules to pair a red with seafood, the Flor Do Côa was delicious.

Restaurant
Restaurante Ponto Final is a cozy and charming restaurant located in Cacilhas, Portugal, offering traditional Portuguese dishes and a selection of wines. Its rustic waterfront patio provides stunning views of Lisbon and the 25 de Abril bridge, making it a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. Featured in the Netflix series Money Heist, this restaurant has gained fame for its picturesque location.
One of the most beautiful views and incredible dining experiences! Definitely make a reservation if you can. We made one for 7pm and were able to watch the sunset, they were very generous with the table dining time, we did not feel rushed. Get there early because you get to pick your own table once the staff confirms your reservation. There are two separate lines, one for walk ins and one for reservations. The food is delicious & fresh. Prices are reasonable considering the restaurant. I thought the prices would be steeper, pleasantly surprised! The staff was very attentive. 10/10!!

We couldn't make a dinner reservation for several months in advance so we settled for 12:30 lunch time on Wednesday. Weather was perfect and we got a best table by the water. Amazing view of the bridge. Spicy shrimp was not spicy but extremely delicious. 10 large ones! Baked fish was amazing as well. Service was good and friendly. I can't even imagine how beautiful it is during sunset dinner.

Absolutely stunning spot and atmosphere, we booked via email the day before and they luckily had space, we had octopus and cod fritters for entree the octopus was so tender, I was not a big fan of the texture of the cod fritters but the flavour was nice. We ordered the ribs and veal cheeks for mains they were huge portions the veal was delicious very tender slow cooked yummy gravy, the ribs were also very tender and very delicate flavours my husband loved it. We were unable to finish our meals we could have shared one between us. Would recommend. Useful info there are a lot of stairs to get down but there is an elevator for anyone who has issues with stairs ( I added a photo of elevator)

This was really an iconic experience. We made reservations months ahead of our trip. It is expensive but worth it in my opinion. We got the shrimps and it was the freshest and most flavourful dish ever. The monkfish stew was ok but the portion sizes are huge. It says it’s for 2 people but it’s at least for 4. The server won’t tell you that. They were able to make me a virgin mojito and charge around €3 for it which I thought was good. I would highly recommend the shrimps. If you plan on doing for sunset dinner then definitely dress warm and take blankets. Best way to get there is uber to the location and the uber drops off near an elevator and you take it down and it’s a short walk on your right.

I’ve been meaning to visit Ponto Final ever since I saw it on Somebody Feed Phil. For reservations, I had to email at least month before and we went for lunch at 12:30, which is when the restaurant opens. You just wait your turn and they’ll come seat you. The view is beautiful and food is so fresh. It was the perfect meal. We had the grilled sea bream, bread, salad and the chicken giblets with blood rice. The sea bream was the highlight for me and the sauce it came with! The serving size for the chicken giblets with blood rice was very generous and it was very scrumptious. It reminded me of a Filipino pork blood dish called ‘dinuguan’ which I also love.

We caught the catamaran between lisbon to the Ginjal. Nice and fast ride in between. We have a great experience at Ponto Final. It’s difficult to get a reservation but the get a walking as well. We wait around 45 minutes to be seated. Mean while when we to the Elevator Panoramic Boca de Vento to enjoy the views from there (stunning scenes). Server did a great job. We started we some fresh Oysters, Pork salad, octopus whole shrimp and small fry fish. For entry we ordered grilled dorados. Fresh seafood was just amazing. Waiting time paid off.

Had reservations for lunch but arrived late because of the long wait in Cristo de Rei so we had to wait for about an hour… worth it! The shrimp dish is ❤️! Nothing like it. We ordered a few more dishes that sadly arrived after we billed out (so we refused it as we were done already) but nonetheless it was a perfect. Octopus salad is good too. I enjoyed the mojito.

I had an unforgettable experience at this seafood restaurant! The view alone is absolutely stunning — overlooking the ocean, especially at sunset, it creates the perfect atmosphere for a relaxing and memorable meal. The seafood was incredibly fresh and perfectly cooked. Every dish had a balance of flavor that really showcased the quality of the ingredients — from the grilled fish to the shrimp and calamari, everything was delicious and beautifully presented. The service was excellent — friendly, attentive, and genuinely caring. The staff made sure we had everything we needed without being intrusive. If you’re visiting Lisbon (or anywhere nearby), this is definitely a must-try spot. Great food, breathtaking views, and a cozy, elegant setting — a true gem by the sea. 🌊🐟✨ But it took more time than expected but it was worth waiting

Casa Nepalesa, located in Avenidas Novas, Lisbon, is a restaurant owned by Tanka Sapkota, who is also known for his Italian restaurants. The restaurant offers a wide variety of fresh and seasonal Nepalese dishes prepared with ground spices in the kitchen. The menu is extensive and features well-seasoned meat and vegetarian options with different spice levels to choose from. The ambiance is cozy with traditional decor and attentive staff dressed in traditional outfits.
Excellent restaurant! The best Nepalese food in Lisbon – simply outstanding! The staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and hospitable, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. I initially ordered a dish that had too many bones and wasn’t easy to eat, but without hesitation the team offered to replace it with another main course at no extra cost. Such thoughtful and generous service! We had an amazing time and will definitely be back.

This was such an amazing experience! Normally when I think of Nepalese or Indian restaurants, it's a hole in the wall. But it's beautifully decorated inside. The service is top-notched, better than any other place that I've experienced in Lisbon, very attentive to details. The food is delicious also. Definitely will be back!

One of my favourite restaurants in Lisbon. The service is second to none, the food is delicious and the spice level can be adjusted to everyone’s taste. The restaurant is romantic and dimly lit and I love the way the staff encourage people to be considerate of others and not make noise.
Barbara L — Google review
Came here a few months ago and I thought the experience was pretty nice. The atmosphere was pleasant and pretty calm when I arrived, after around 30 minutes started the chaos because the restaurant was fully booked, a lot of noise from families and groups but I would say that's normal for a restaurant. The food was tasty and well seasoned and the waitresses were always coming around to give suggestions and explain the whole restaurant history, the only downside to this was that sometimes I just wanted to be enjoying my dinner and would get interrupted. I finished my meal with no problems until I had to pay. I had to ask 3 times for the receipt and after around 25 minutes of waiting I had to get up and pay by myself on the counter otherwise I would have to wait longer. It was an overall good experience.

Nestled in the vibrant Bairro Alto district, Casa da Índia is a beloved gem for those seeking authentic Portuguese cuisine at reasonable prices. This charming eatery stays open late, making it a perfect stop for hungry travelers. As you stroll by, the sight of chickens sizzling over charcoal at the window beckons you inside to experience its traditional offerings. The ambiance reflects old-school Lisbon with tiled walls and paper tablecloths, creating an inviting atmosphere that feels like home.
Highly recommend this local spot! If you’re visiting Portugal, you absolutely have to try the seafood — and this place is a perfect choice. The dishes were fresh, flavorful, and surprisingly affordable. I can’t comment on the meat, but when in Portugal, seafood is a must, and this restaurant does it right. Also, don’t miss the red sangria — it was excellent. A great local experience — definitely worth a visit!

Found this gem of spot for dinner from a local. I was dining alone and ate at the counter. Made friends quickly. Friendly atmosphere. Thoroughly enjoyed every bite. My wine choice, Vinho Verde which was a perfect pairing with my shrimp sautéed with garlic & olive oil. …and of course the bread for dipping the tasty sauce. Savory. Simple, yet each ingredient fresh, zingy and treat for your taste buds. Authentic fresh delicious Portuguese food. Relax atmosphere. A must go to if you find yourself in Lisbon Portugal. 🇵🇹

I ate good at this classic tasca. I took the menu which cost me 12 euros. Chicken was a bit dry and they could’ve added a little salad. Couldn’t complain about the rest. There is bread on the table which is not included! Be wary because a lot of places in Lisbon do this.

Probably my favourite restaurant in Lisbon. Full of life and local and chaotic, flavourful fish and well balanced with potatoes and vegetables. Great food with large portions. But it was too crowded and they charged more than priced for no reason, which was a bit annoying. They miscalculated the number of breads as well and charged more. That was not a lot of money but it made you feel not so good.

Established in 1947 as a small bar, it has since become one of the city's most respected fado houses. It’s was a while ago I gave a full 5 star review but this one deserves each one of them! The food was really nice and authentic Portuguese cuisine. Entertainment-wise I think I’m in love with fado! Can’t understand a word they’re singing but the feelings are the same no matter what! Man what a night! To top it off I must hand it to the great staff of this restaurant! So attentive, so professional, so kind! Other restaurants take note! This is how you give service! If there was i 6th star, I’d give it to the staff of this restaurant! This evening is a reason I will come back to Lisbon! Well done! 🫶🏻

Traditional Portuguese restaurant in the old city centre. Set price menu has plenty of choice, with optional wine pairing. Live Fado music - 3 amazing singers (individual sets) accompanied by guitar and mandolin. Narrow streets are restricted to local residents and specific taxis so best to walk there. Wheelchair access would be tricky.
Nicola L — Google review
For fado in an elegant setting, this is the place. The service is professional. Top notch. We have a number of food allergies and they were very knowledgeable and careful. We felt very well looked after. The menu is online and is excellent. I didn't think I liked octopus until I tried their appetizer. I realize i've never had it properly cooked. The setting has great acoustics. And the shows were wonderful. Starting at nine, the lights dim, food service stops, an artist comes out with two guitarists, and performs five fado songs. There's a 20 minute break, the lights come on and service resumed. And this is done for two more artists. It's not cheap. But you get your money's worth. It will be a night you will remember.

We came to experience the fado. A unique experience for sure. Maybe not for us but still worth it. The food overall was less than average and not offering a la carte for those huge portions didn’t make it better. The best dish we had was the octopus one of the best i ever had. The desserts were interesting and delicious

Fantastic experience at O Faia, everything was really great from service and ambiance to food and performers. I have only been to a couple of other places, and even though they were also from the top end of various guides and reviews, they did not compare to O Faia. I am not an expert on Fado, but the performers at O Faia were really good, strong voices backed by equally strong musical performance, and they interacted more with the audience than I have seen before, maybe because the setting is more intimate. It does not really matter what table you get, since the place is rather small, so you will be close to the performers no matter what table you get. Aside from the great Fado, what really felt different at O Faia was that the level of service and food, that completed the experience and was on par with the strong Fado performers. In other places it can feel as if the food and service is secondary, but at O Faia you feel that this is equally important, the waiters were super friendly, I guess they cover less guests than in other places, so they have more time to interact, small talk and deliver stellar service. I work in the Hotel & restaurant industry, so it was a joy to see how the service and food was flowing........ The food was really good, well presented, good taste and nicely curated selection of Portugese classics. Thanks to Joao who took really good care of us, and as you can see from the pictures, it is a really good idea (as always) to make good friends with the sommelier Nuno.....who treated us to some different rarities and specialties, and a great wine talk after the show, thanks Joao and Nuno, and cudos to the kitchen as well.

This place is a MUST. I cannot stress enough how incredible this entire experience is. Firstly let me say, it DID feel like a tourist trap in a way because we were pretty much in a room full of Americans. However, they do an excellent job at making it feel like a local Gem. You get quality food, service, and performance without a doubt. The food feels and tastes authentic. The vibes in the room feel cozy, warm, and romantic. The timing of the food was also greatly appreciated. They take your order and they bring you a dish, let you eat and enjoy it, and then they dim the lights and play the performance. They did this with EACH course. So we had 3 different singers after each course was enjoyed. Excellent structure. This really does help you enjoy the evening. And let me say the FOOD was the best we’ve had in ALL of Lisbon. From the drinks all the way to the dessert. The recommendations made by Gonzalo were superb. The octopus is a definite must! If you had to pick anywhere for a Fado show and dinner please pick this place. You will not regret it!! It will be the highlight of your trip.

An authentic taste of old Lisbon at the bar. We didn't have time for a full meal, but we couldn't resist popping into the legendary Gambrinus. We stood at the magnificent, old-world bar and ordered two simple things: a croquete and an oyster. The oyster was shucked perfectly right at the bar - briny, fresh, and clean. The croquete was a masterpiece of the genre: fantastically crispy on the outside with a smooth, flavorful filling that was clearly homemade. It was the perfect way to experience a slice of this iconic restaurant's charm without a full sit-down meal. The barman was efficient and classic, the atmosphere was buzzing, and it felt like stepping back in time. Highly recommend this bar-side experience for a quick, high-quality bite.

I was looking forward to this meal from the time I was able to book a reservation. From the time I reserved, they were very responsive to my emails (and I had a lot of questions!). Kudos to whoever is working their emails. For me, the "dining" experience started at that point. I ordered the vegetarian option, and I did not miss the meat at all! My husband ordered the meat menu with wine pairing with his meal, which he truly enjoyed. The sommeliers and the servers were very attentive. My family of 4 dined in. The restaurant did have steak and fries for my 7 year old, which he devoured. Everyone in the restaurant was very attentive to us, even asking my son how he liked his meal. (He gave them a thumbs up, which says a lot) Oh, and icing on the cake -- we did a tour of the kitchen and got to meet Chef Andre Cruz and see his staff at work. What a wonderful sight! It makes me appreciate all the work put towards my meal. If you are able to dine here, please do it. You will not regret it.

My husband and I had an incredible experience here last night. It was, without a doubt, the most seamless and thoughtfully curated tasting menu of our trip. The wine pairings were unique and complemented each dish perfectly. Wellington and Leonardo provided service that was both professional and warmly welcoming. Every dish was beautifully presented with an eclectic touch, perfectly seasoned, and expertly garnished. The quality of the ingredients Chef selected was outstanding. Having the Chef come out to introduce himself was the perfect finishing touch to an unforgettable evening—thank you!

This was one of the best meals and experiences in my life. We had the vegetarian 7 course dinner. Each course was a piece of art, and so beautiful you didn’t want to eat it. The food was unbelievably delicious. The service was fantastic and done by professional waiters. Two waiters served my wife and I at the same time. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone without hesitation. AMAZING!

Absolutely incredible experience, you must go if you are able. We did the full menu with wine pairings. I did vegetarian as I am not much of a fish eater (but do eat meat) and my husband did the fish meal. We both agree it was the best meal we've ever had. Staff is very attentive and the whole evening is so entertaining and fun. The meal took about 4 hours so be prepared for a marathon. But everything was SO SO worth it.

This restaurant was definitely the BEST restaurant I have ever eaten at. The service is outstanding and everyone serves your food in sync. As well, the food was unbelievable and the creativeness of the dishes was incomparable to any other restaurant that I’ve eaten at. The dishes were all served on different shaped plates and bowls which were very cool. This is an experience that you should definitely go to and you will not regret. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone!

Restaurante O Tasco Do Vigário is a local eatery located just a short distance from Portas do Sol, making it a convenient stop for lunch or an early dinner after exploring the nearby castle. The restaurant offers simple yet delicious dishes, with fresh fish being one of their specialties. Guests can complement their meals with house wine or a refreshing jug of sangria. Known for its affordability, the restaurant is particularly popular for serving traditional Portuguese sardines at very reasonable prices.
Great service and delicious food. I had the octopus salad and mixed grilled, both of which were excellent. The waiter was very patient and took the time to explain the menu recommendations. The food was fresh, and they treat all customers equally, no matter where you're from. As a traveler, I felt very comfortable dining here. The chili sauce was amazing!

An absolutely magical stroll through Lisbon's Alfama district is perfectly finished with a dinner at this place. The restaurant is small, with just a few tables inside, but we sadly found out too late that it also has a lovely garden in a quiet square in front of it. The menu is quite extensive, perhaps even too much -when you come here, you're looking for honest, regional cuisine, so a few traditional dishes made from local products would be more than enough. The minimalist decor is warmed up by the very friendly service. The fish we ordered was delicious and delicate, and the side dishes were fresh and simple. It's a huge plus that you can swap out the sides if the default options don't suit you. I highly recommend this spot if you want to soak up the local atmosphere and take a break from the more tourist-focused places in the city center.

Outstanding mom&pops place with delicious food. Had a great lunch here and the atmosphere was so authentic. The servers were very helpful, their menus are in English and with photos too. Absolutely recommend it!

We ordered soup, codfish cake, and grilled sardines. Everything was delicious—including the complimentary olives! Service was also fast, and the waiter was really smiley and friendly. Incredible value!

This place is worth a vist. It is actually a local restaurant. Not a tourist trap. And it is a bit off beat in the streets. The food was delicious. There was a variety of options to choose for grilled fishes. The sardines are a must try. Portion size is great. It comes with a salad, boiled potatoes and veggies. The service is fantastic. Both the fishes we ordered was suggested by the person.

Enjoyed a quick lunch. We had the 5 grilled sardines and the cod fish cakes. Both were delicious and fresh and came with steamed vegetables. They have a small outdoor seating area across the road which was quite cool. All the waiters were very friendly and helpful and the food came quite quickly.

Restaurant
A Merendinha do Arco Bandeira, located near the Rossio Arch in Lisbon, is a beloved local eatery known for its authentic Portuguese cuisine. The small and unassuming restaurant has been serving up delicious dishes like char-grilled cutlass fish and red bean rice for over 20 years. As the city center becomes more touristy, finding affordable and genuine tascas like this one is increasingly rare.
We loved everything about this local gem. Much like other amazing restaurants, they don’t do anything fancy - they start with fresh, local ingredients and let them shine through simple cooking. The soup, which I think was a shrimp bisque, was full of flavour and just had croutons as garnish for additional texture. I’m pretty sure they grind the shells to get the maximum flavour and then sieve them out. Absolutely delicious! Octopus salad was also one of the best we’ve had so far in the trip. Octopus was super tender and piled on with tons of olive oil and acid (I think it’s lemon juice) with other veggies. But by far, my favourite was the grilled sardines. I think it’s their signature because almost every table got them. And it’s easy to see why. On the plate, are five grilled sardines and potatoes. The fish was so full of flavour, they didn’t need to do anything other than season them. I would say all three are must tries. I would definitely be coming back when I’m back in Lisbon and you need to go eat there if you’re ever in the city.
Scott L — Google review
An authentic Portuguese restaurant with excellent food. Highly recommended. We tried the garlic shrimp with rice, which were outstanding and a must-try. The grilled sole was excellent. The sardines were good, though a bit tricky for those not used to eating fish with bones. The staff serving us were very kind and welcoming. Deserts were also excellent. The queue and waiting time to get a table are well worth it to experience this wonderful restaurant.

Been there third time in a week. So good and no burden on your wallet. Almost every dish on their menu is a hit. Alex and Armenio r great staffs with lots of patience and smiley face!
Adeline N — Google review
I’m rating the restraint, not the hotel. This place is really popular. It’s better to have a reservation. We had the clams, the prawns and the sardines. We love all the seafood but the prawns were the best. The dishes came with salad and flavored rice. The rice went really well with the sauce from the prawns dish. We would love to go back again.
Will C — Google review
I came to this restaurant alone and had the sea bass. I arrived around 3:00 PM, and there was a short line at the entrance, but after waiting about 10 minutes, I was able to get a table easily since I was alone. The waiters provide fast service, are friendly, and speak English. The food is very delicious , I ordered the sea bass. Even though I came around 3:00 PM, the codfish was already sold out. One of the nicest things about local Portuguese restaurants is that when you order a glass of wine, they don’t just bring a single glass , they serve a small carafe, which is roughly equivalent to two glasses. Overall, I was very satisfied and I recommend this place.
Yagmur O — Google review
This traditional Portuguese restaurant offers you nice food with a cozy atmosphere. Don’t expect too much luxury or service. Tasted shellfish soup, sardines, prawns with garlic, octopus salad. It cost 45 euros for 2 persons. Be aware of closing time (19.00), which is way early for Lisbon.

Another must-visit when in Portugal! We came here after seeing that Mark Wiens had visited a couple of years ago, and it did not disappoint. The food was delicious, and the service from everyone was outstanding. Such a lovely place—enjoy!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ If I could give six stars, I absolutely would! I first discovered this restaurant on Mark Wiens’ YouTube channel, and when I walked past it myself, I hesitated—thinking it might just be another tourist trap because of the location. But it turned out to be the opposite: a truly local experience with incredible food. The sardines, especially, blew me away—I never imagined they could taste this good.

Portuguese restaurant
O Trevo, nestled at the entrance of Bairro Alto, has long been a beloved spot for locals seeking a taste of Lisbon's culinary delights. This charming café gained international recognition thanks to Anthony Bourdain, who praised its unique bifana—a mouthwatering pork steak sandwich served on crusty bread with just the right amount of sauce. The location is perfect for those exploring the vibrant streets of Lisbon, making it an ideal pit stop for lunch or a quick snack.
Note: Cash only. Bifana (pork sandwich) was absolutely delicious - the pork was tender, meaty and juicy. There were some condiments on the table such as the chili oil and mustard - I enjoyed adding a bit to sprucing it up. Beer was nice and cold, paired well with the sandwich. Atmosphere was slightly intimidating (coming from a tourist, so take that with a grain of salt) but the staff was straightforward. Make your order and you’ll get what you get very quickly!
Cindy H — Google review
Best place in Lisbon to have the Bifana, a pork sandwich, and its beef counterpart, the Prego. Very authentic experience. Being featured by Anthony Bourdain didn't make this place a tourist trap. Really enjoyed the dessert here as well. Place is buzzing and has an amazing local vibe.
Ryan H — Google review
Authentic Portuguese food establishment. Also opens early for early birds. Bifana - must try! Cod fritter was one of the best we had this trip! Batter was nicely flavoured and had a great texture. One can taste the cod in the filling. Filling was also moist. The shrimp croquette was also very good! Must visit!
Jasmine — Google review
The short-haired, short-statured lady at the service counter is incredibly rude and disrespectful to customers. Don't order from her ! The young gentleman with colored eyes who speaks English is very polite and friendly. I had a real, good bifana in Porto. Here, the cheese is optional. However, the cheese they serve is simply toasted (cheap) one. In Porto, they make it with excellent goat cheese. Don't be fooled by the high rating and 3.5K reviews.
M. Z — Google review
Rough around the edges - no frills kinda place, the bifana is famous and really good. Cash only, so make sure you have some euros! It was three of us and we spent 14 euros in total!
Ilaria B — Google review
This place is packed and overhyped. Long queue, but quick service. The bifana was only average. The meat was tender, but overall, the sandwich needs lots of mustard and chili oil.
Sonia E — Google review
Pork a little tough but the saltiness balanced well with the tap beer. For a great price and condiments of mustard and chilli oil ready for your use, it’s a recommended from me.

The Bifana is the proof that you never judge a book by its cover. It was surprisingly tasty. The bread was soft and the pork was tender and juicy. It’s a must try. We also had the croquetas. Delicious 🤌

A family-run neighborhood gem — a hidden treasure. The food was truly excellent, and the people were kind and welcoming. I was staying at a nearby hotel and ended up visiting twice. One time I had the cod dish, and the other time, grilled sardines — both were absolutely delicious. It genuinely felt like they used high-quality ingredients and cooked with care. Although the servers didn’t speak English, communication was smooth and the experience was enjoyable nonetheless.

Ate a late lunch at this location after a recommendation from Pedro of Free Bike Tours Lisbon. The food was amazing and prices were very reasonble. The fresh fish at the door is what you choose to eat off the menu of the day . The fish is that fresh. Locals eat here !!! Says it all for a portugese restaurant in portugal . The lady beside us helped and recomended some black pepper to augment the house special cuttlefish. Which is highly recomended. We had the small white fish with tomato rice as well . The house white wine is very nice as well and enhances the seafood. A great vibe and lovely food excellent and helpful staff. 6 stars if i could. But beyond that highly recomended

This little restaurant was recommended by our tour guide, Pedro. I’m so glad he suggested it. We went for lunch and it was crowded with local folks. The menu was in Portuguese, but our server brought another menu that explained each item in several languages. I chose grilled grouper and my husband chose the cuttlefish special. The grouper was just about the best fish I have ever had, and my husband really liked the cuttlefish too. You may have to wait at this restaurant, but it will be worth it.

Came in after a long flight as it was next to my accommodation. What a treat. Proper locals place with 1 tv that fortunately was showing the football. I asked for 2 pints and some prawns. Great portion and tasted amazing. Came back the following night and just asked for a recommendation. It was some sort of chicken stew with rice. Fantastic. Highly recommend if in the area.

We went to this restaurant on the last day of our week stay in Lisbon and it was an excellent choice. The service was quick and efficient. The prices very reasonable. Most importantly however the food was authentic, fresh, simple and tasty. Portions were very big. We couldn't even finish them. Restaurant was full in the middle of the day, both with locals as well as tourists. On of our best food experiences during whole trip.

We had a wonderful experience at Cova Funda. This charming restaurant offers a truly authentic taste of Portuguese cuisine at a very reasonable price. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with a lively local vibe that makes you feel right at home. The menu is varied, with generous portions and rich, traditional flavors — the meat platter for two was especially delicious. Service was friendly and attentive, even during busy hours, and the staff were happy to recommend dishes and local wines to pair with our meal. For €15–20 per person, the quality and portion sizes are excellent. If you’re looking for a place to enjoy hearty Portuguese food in a casual, friendly setting, Cova Funda is a fantastic choice. We’ll definitely be back.

Nestled in the lively neighborhood of Arroios, O Gambuzino is a delightful haven for plant-based enthusiasts visiting Lisbon. This vibrant eatery offers an extensive international menu that caters exclusively to vegan and vegetarian diets, making it a must-visit for anyone craving wholesome homemade dishes. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, reminiscent of dining at a friend's home, complete with charming decor like guitars on the wall.
Absolutely delicious experience. We had the 12 course tasting menu for €35 , which was a fantastic deal. Each course was really beautifully prepared, usually using house-fermented ingredients, which brought an amazing depth of flavour. Would highly recommend. We went with two non vegans who loved it just as much.

We had the 12 dish course and were blown away by almost every single dish. The price is incredibly fair, the service was lovely and the whole experience lasted for about three hours. We were very satisfied and full by the end, but never felt like we were forcing down another dish because the amount was just right. The dishes were all fermented in one way or another, which was a great theme, and they all tasted very different. Cannot forget to mention the wines. We tried a lot of them, and even though we didn’t have a glass of each one but still had a generous test-sip, they only charged us for the glasses we went with. Highly recommend if you’re in Lisbon to enjoy your evening here. Make a reservation. It was full that evening and it was a Monday!

A welcome escape from Lisbon’s ubiquitous red meat and seafood Gambuzino is an understated retreat from tourist hell. Sadly the food was not what we had hoped for. Everything arrives looking like an individual work of culinary art, but it looks better than it tastes. Of all the six dishes we tried, the lettuce bites were the most memorable. It seemed like the kitchen eschewed spices as a house policy. Nice people. Pretty platefuls.

If you go to one restaurant in Lisbon- this should be it. Wether you are Plant based or not, what they do is pure magic. Everything well balanced, innovative and delicious. I highly recommend taking the tasting menu and experiencing it all. Thank you for sharing your talent♥️
Yaara B — Google review
It’s rare that humble vegetarian fare gets elevated to haute cuisine. And rarer that it’s done so well that meat meat almost seems present. O Gambuzino pulls off this trickery like the chimera of its namesake. Oyster mushrooms in miso butter are tastier than the scallops they emulate. Homemade tempeh has more umami than a piece of meat. Bibembop explodes with enough flavor to make you ask “where’s the beef” and not caring about the answer. Everything is exquisitely prepared, from homemade beet kombucha to the silky smooth humus with chewy sourdough focaccia. And you’d be remiss if you didn’t leave room for the finest banoffee which you’ll enjoy too much to care that everything you just ate was a triumph of plants.

The bright and interesting dishes, such as the beef tartare and chicken dish, are outstanding. The restaurant offers an exceptional dining experience with passionate and knowledgeable staff. The Mediterranean cuisine with crazy spice combinations will make your taste buds dance in excitement.
Delicious food, great atmosphere and friendly staff. Our favourite dishes were the beef tartare and the aubergine with goats cheese sauce. The poppy seed strudel with coffee sauce was an unusual and tasty treat. The only negative was the purple potato puree with the chicken - I think they forgot to season it because it was very bland! The rest of the dish was still delicious.

We had a delightful meal at Zula on our last night in Lisbon. The food was creative and well executed and the staff was passionate and knowledgable about the food. The chef's unique approach to Mediterranean cuisine made my mouth dance in excitement. We enjoyed the avocado hummus, and the lamb kabobs the most, but everything we ate was delicious! It goes to show that you do not have to pay so much $$$, to enjoy an exciting meal!

An absolute MUST go. Food, service, inside setting and wine all outstanding. Nice selection of Natural wine! Feels like a Lisbon is a hidden gem. Also nice touch of writing reservation name on a bottle on the table to see when we arrived. All the food was crazy - but the chicken dish was next level alongside Knafeh dessert. Prices are really good and would 100 recommend you give it a try. Food recommendations all in the pictures below.

Елена Б — Google review
During our visit to the Near Eastern Bistrot in Lisbon, there were three of us, enjoying the outdoor seating. It's worth noting that this place is fairly new on the scene, and the staff proficiently communicated in English Now, the details: Drinks: We decided to kick things off with a glass of skin contact orange wine. A somewhat unfortunate start, as the waiter presented an almost empty bottle without checking the wine. It appeared murky and emitted a sharp aroma, indicating that it might have gone bad. Upon tasting it, our suspicions were confirmed – it was undrinkable. Fortunately, the staff swiftly replaced it with a fresh and enjoyable bottle of the same wine Food: 1. The pita bread with rye was a letdown; it arrived cold when it should've been hot and fresh. The presentation scored high marks, but the taste left much to be desired – a 3 out of 5 2. Labneh with quinoa popcorn and lime zest, accompanied by olives, leaned on the sour side, which wasn't quite to my liking. Again, presentation-wise, it shone, but taste-wise, it landed at a 3 out of 5 3. Mohammara, featuring red bell peppers, pecans, vanilla, and basil, erred on the side of sweetness, despite the waiter recommending it when we were seeking something spicy. It looked exquisite, but taste-wise, it garnered a 3 out of 5 4. The falafel dish was with five generously sized balls, a bit too thick on the outside, complemented by a flavorful yogurt sauce and marinated cucumber slices. I didn’t hate this one, earning it a 4 out of 5 for taste and a 5 out of 5 for presentation 5. The aubergine schnitzel served with creamy quinoa, spinach, and cherry tomatoes was a delightful surprise, with impeccable flavor balance. It exceeded expectations, meriting a remarkable 6 out of 5 for taste and a solid 4 out of 5 for presentation 6. Beef tartare with garlic tahini sauce, zaatar, marinated cucumber, and dranniki (small potato pancakes) presented a mixed experience. The meat itself was good, but the combination of ingredients left something to be desired, earning it a 3 out of 5 for taste and a 2 out of 5 for presentation 7. Finally, the salmon tartare with Iraqi sauce amba, paired with quinoa popcorn, was a puzzle to the palate. The combination of salmon and the mix of sour, sweet, and spicy flavors didn't quite harmonize, leaving the fish virtually undetectable. Taste-wise, it settled at a 2 out of 5, and the presentation left something to be desired, scoring just a 1 out of 5 To our disappointment, when we returned the last dish, the waiter merely suggested something else and didn't remove it from the bill. A less-than-pleasant ending to an otherwise mixed dining experience ☹️ To sum it up, our visit to the Near Eastern Bistrot in Lisbon was a bit of a rollercoaster. While some dishes truly impressed with their flavors and presentation, others left us wanting more. We hope that as this new establishment finds its footing, it will refine its menu and service to consistently match its potential. Wishing them the best of luck on their culinary journey. 🍽️🌟🤞

Takeout Restaurant
Krua Thai is a top spot in Lisbon for authentic and delicious Thai cuisine. Visitors rave about the pad Thai, duck basil, gyoza, and Thai milk tea. The food is described as high quality and comparable to what you'd find in Thailand itself. While it's take-out only, many patrons enjoy their meals at nearby scenic spots. The friendly staff and genuine flavors make this a must-visit for anyone craving authentic Asian food while in Lisbon.
This is our go-to Thai restaurant when we come to Lisbon. The food is delicious, authentic Thai food. Note that this is for takeaways only (no seating in the restaurant). We would typically eat at a nearby bench while doing people watching.
Epiko08 — Google review
First of all, it’s important to note that this is a takeaway-only spot, not a sit-down restaurant. As someone who loves Thai food, I had high expectations after reading the glowing reviews from last year, but unfortunately, my experience didn’t live up to the hype. The food was okay but not particularly memorable. The Tom Yum soup lacked that signature punch of flavour and the noodles were overcooked, which was a bit disappointing. I’ve had much better Thai food elsewhere. On the positive side, the service was quick, and the staff were helpful, though not as warm and welcoming as you’d typically expect from Thai hospitality. While it’s convenient if you’re nearby and craving Thai food, I wouldn’t go out of my way to order from here again. It was an average experience, and there are definitely better Thai options to explore.

Best Thai food in all Lisbon. Had a great authentic Asian taste and flavors. The staff were also very welcoming and had a lovely service.

The food is delicious, quick and fresh! Anything you could ask for, tastes just like if you ordered it off the streets in Bangkok. Service is very friendly and portion size is large and very reasonable. A great option if you're in the area!

Great Thai food! We recently spent a few months in Thailand and were craving pad Thai. This tastes very authentic and satisfied our craving! Obviously more expensive than Thailand prices, but not bad compared to European standards. We tried pad Thai, gyoza, and Thai milk tea. All were delicious! The restaurant is take away only and our food took about 20 minutes to prepare.

The food is really really good. Ordered a Pad Thai and Shrimp Roll, it’s the same as the one I had in Asia. It’s really authentic and delicious with a very reasonable price. Service is also very good and efficient. Picked up my order within 8 minutes since I ordered the food, it’s amazing. Only stayed in Lisbon for a few days, and I miss this place already!

Casa das Bifanas is a bustling eatery with an easygoing vibe and outdoor seating, offering classic Portuguese dishes. One of the must-try items on their menu is the tasty bifana, a traditional pork sandwich enjoyed as a snack with beer. This popular dish can be found all over Portugal, but Casa das Bifanas adds its own touch to Lisbon's signature sandwich.
First time trying Bifana. This place was quite busy and so many people were waiting in line for a table so I tried standing and eating for the first time. It was an interesting experience. There were so many locals there doing the exact same thing and some of the tourist as well. The food was good and the price was really cheap . Overall, a nice experience.
Ghazal — Google review
This restaurant is conveniently located in the heart of the city, making it a great spot for a quick bite. Their Bifanna was a highlight—delicious and cooked to perfection. On the other hand, the fish dish fell a bit flat for me. While it was cooked well, it lacked seasoning and didn’t stand out flavor-wise. Overall, it’s a good choice if you’re passing through and need a quick bite.
V C — Google review
We visited this restaurant as a tourist, and unfortunately, it wasn’t a great experience. They seemed to charge higher prices once they realized we wasn’t local, which felt quite unfair. The sweets were disappointing and not well, and the staff’s attitude wasn’t particularly friendly either. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this place to other travelers.

Stopped by for a quick snack and respite from the rain pouring down. It felt very much like a popular spot for the local residents with good variety of food including bifanas and pastel de nata. Felt welcomed with good attentive service.

My favourite place in all of Lisbon for bifanas. Tasty and quick, it's a great place for breakfast and midday snacks. Also, love the waiter who always tries to teach me more and more Portuguese words every time I visit. Love this place 💗

Restaurant
Restaurante Solar dos Nunes is a prestigious dining establishment located in the heart of Lisbon, specifically in Alcantara. The restaurant boasts an elegant and inviting decor, providing guests with a unique and memorable gastronomic experience. Known for its authentic Portuguese cuisine, Restaurante Solar dos Nunes combines local ingredients with modern cooking techniques to create delectable dishes.
This restaurant deserves 10 stars and more Michelin reviews!!!! The ambience was on point and the lamb was unbelievably good with a different twist. My daughter and I stopped in a few hours before dinner time and made a reservation. The bartender was so helpful and went out of his way to welcome us to come back! The server recommended the perfect wine pairing for our food selections and the Portuguese desserts were delightful! Lisbon, Portugal 🇵🇹 owes us nothing! I would’ve paid more for this experience! We would’ve easily spent $300 plus dollars in Chicago for the same thing!
Christina G — Google review
I honestly don’t know how they still have their Michelin 9 stars. We called ahead to reserve a table and explained that I’m disabled and need extra care after recent surgery. They reassured us everything would be taken care of, yet when we arrived, they seated us right next to the toilets. We noticed they had already placed starters on the table before we arrived, sitting out and exposed. We assumed they were a complimentary gesture from the house, but they later appeared on the bill. My wife and mother in law, also made the mistake of ordering fresh juices. Which in Portugal is commonly a safe choice, but upon arrival we noticed that the lemonade stunk of vinegar and the pineapple mint juice was made of an unripe fruit and 95% water. We ordered our food, but the table next to us who arrived after us received theirs first. My beef lion tacos were average, the cod was far too salty, and my wife’s steak was undercooked. She had asked for medium-well, but it came out bloody. When we politely asked if it could be cooked a bit more, the waiter returned making a point to say “well done” in a rude manner. The same issue happened with the peppered steak. To top it off, never in my life have I been served a wild berry cheesecake that was frozen solid like a rock. Overall, it was poor service, disappointing food, and no consideration for the needs we had communicated in advance. Honestly, if their Michelin stars were based on this experience, they should have expired by now. Post-reply edit: It is sad to see such arrogance misrepresenting Portuguese restaurants and cuisine! Good restaurants, unlike this one, take into consideration customer feedback! For the sake of validity, I will be adding images of the food and even translation of your menu to the comment. For starters, taking advantage of a misspelt/autocorrect error or even of the translation of the word “lion” instead of “loin” is just petty! Indeed, we did not verify that the juices were in the menu, however, we checked with the waiter and he recommended those. They were so bad we had to send them back! I understand protecting the reputation of your business, at the end of the day it is your source of funds, but even a simple fake “we are sorry to hear about your experience at our restaurant” would be better than undermining your customers’ experience! I continue to wish you the best and hope that both the food and services at your restaurant improve so that you can thrive and no more people fall into such scams! Thank you!

My partner and I had a delicious dinner at Solar dos Nunes. It was a spontaneous decision early on Friday evening and we sheepishly had no reservations. They graciously found us a spot, even though they were very busy. We felt so lucky. Everything about our meal was enjoyable. Our food, our wine, my partner had a non alcoholic beer. By the time we left the restaurant was totally full, some families, some couples, all different ages, everyone having a great time. It was such a fun evening, very festive.

I love the cold plats! The octopus, olives, mushrooms, cheese ~ I was so satisfied with them! And I saw the waiters were very nice to a disability person ~! They are very kind people! I will be there next time and tipping them a lot! Very very recommend!
Nicole H — Google review
I don't know how this restaurant has been able to have a Michelin star for such a long time to be honest. Food is ok, but nothing above average, quite salty as well. Similar to other reviewers, we were surprised that had to pay dearly for the starters that were placed on the table at arrival. The menu of the day was written in Portuguese, but then the menu was in English so had to guess what is what (our waiter hardly spoke English and due to the font used on the Menu of the day, Google translate couldn't translate). Quite disappointing.
Lora T — Google review
Go here! Have this .... outstanding service, thank you Nuno and very high food quality! The coldest beer I have ever had 🍻 The BEST in Lisbon by far ♥️
Jansen S — Google review
The restaurant is quite charming, nicely decorated, with a traditional atmosphere that makes a good first impression. However, the overall experience did not meet expectations. The quality of the food was decent, but not in line with the rather high prices. I’m used to dining in high-end restaurants and paying more when the quality justifies it, but in this case the value for money simply wasn’t there. Overall, the service, quality, and pricing did not feel balanced. We were served different dishes from what we had actually ordered, and the bill included extra items that had not been mentioned beforehand. When we tried to ask for clarification, we were told that no one spoke English (or so they claimed), which made it very difficult to understand what was going on. Additionally, when we asked for the receipt to check the bill, we were told it couldn’t be printed, which left us with a sense of very limited transparency. Although the place itself is visually pleasant, the experience was disappointing, and at times we felt somewhat misled—especially as foreign customers. Not only would I not return, but I also wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for a clear, fair, and quality dining experience for the price.

Adega da Tia Matilde is a renowned traditional Portuguese restaurant with a rich history dating back to 1926. It has earned its place as a favorite dining spot for locals and families, even earning recognition in the Michelin Guide. The restaurant is named after the original owner's mother, Matilde, and has evolved from a small tasca specializing in petiscos to offering an extensive menu featuring authentic Portuguese cuisine.
The best meal of our trip to Lisbon! We’re so glad we made the effort to visit this restaurant. It’s located outside the main tourist areas, but getting there is easy and affordable with a taxi or Bolt. The place has a sense of history, and most of the diners are locals—a great sign. Every dish was expertly prepared and full of flavor, surpassing all the other restaurants we tried during our five days in Lisbon.

We didn't have a reservation and went on a Monday, ringed the doorbell and I gotta say the first person who I talked to was not friendly. Our experience completely changed after being welcomed by the other waiter who helped us all night, along the 2 other ladies. I had the amazing bacalhau na brasa and the rest of the table chose the duck, which was well cooked and came in a great combination with the rice and chorizo.
Gabriel G — Google review
This was the first time I went into a restaurant but didn't eat there. The arrogant service from the moment I entered made me decide that no matter how delicious the food was, I would not go back. This restaurant is very well-known, so I booked it a week in advance with great expectations. I booked a seat for 2 at 7:30 pm. When I entered, my first impression was that the restaurant was beautifully decorated with a retro style, like a traditional wine cellar. Then this good impression was immediately ruined... There was no service staff from the door to the bar. When I walked into the dining area, I saw a staff member serving a group of more than 10 people at the only large table. Then there were no other customers. The remaining tables were also empty. I didn't want to disturb the service staff, so I returned to the bar area. Saw an older gentleman in uniform slowly pouring ice cubes for seafood. Please note that it was already 7:40pm when we arrived at the restaurant, but the restaurant didn’t look like it was ready yet. I asked the old gentleman in Portuguese, is there anyone to serve us? He looked at me and didn’t seem to understand, so I asked him a few more times. He just focused on pouring his ice cubes. Then he came out and stared at me for 2 minutes. I repeated it again, we have a reservation, is there anyone to serve us? He didn’t even reply to let us wait, just looked at us and didn’t seem to welcome us. Then after a while, he called a lady who looked like a manager out of the kitchen, but also in a very unwelcoming tone to take us to our seats. The whole experience was so weird!!! So we decided to leave directly. I have lived in Portugal for more than ten years and I am also very keen on finding local traditional Portuguese food, but this experience made me feel seriously offended.

The best restaurant in Lisbon for the “typical & comfort” Portuguese food. Service is also the best ! As starter please have the “bacalhau patanisca”, a must-eat! But best is definitely “Pato corado com arroz”, the Portuguese “like risotto” with duck. The “lombo” beef also outstanding. To finish, as a desert, try “montanha russa”, a bit sweet but worth’s the calories 🚀
Tiago M — Google review
Classic traditional cusine with few well prepared signature dishes. Quality and Quantity good value for money.
Marlon P — Google review
Traditional Portuguese cuisine done well, but I feel like you can get this type of food just about anywhere in Portugal. The only drawback is how hot the restaurant was with not enough air conditioning. Family who lives in Lisbon seems to have really appreciated the food otherwise.

A famous place to visit if in Lisbon! I ordered the special meat option, and I'm glad I did. Super tender and flavoursome. Good value and menu with speciality dishes. Good choice of wines and cocktails too. Staff were friendly and we didn't have to wait too long for our orders to be taken. The fresh bread and butters were delicious too. One to visit!

Food is okay. Service level is quite low. No one to show you around at the entrance. The interior is beautiful, but the wine is dusty. Waitresses do not come to take orders and do not speak English. They have no knowledge of the food. Located in an old residential area with many good restaurants around. We spent almost 200€ in total for lunch for 4 people and nothing was worth the money. We will not be revisiting.

"O Cantinho do Bem Estar" is a cozy seafood restaurant located in Lisbon's Bairro Alto. The restaurant offers moderate portions at affordable prices, creating a homely atmosphere for diners. The menu features traditional Portuguese dishes, typically served for two people but can be split for individual servings. Guests praise the attentive staff and recommend trying the Bacalhau and Octopus dishes. Despite its small seating capacity, visitors find the experience worthwhile due to the warm hospitality and delicious food.
Traditional Portuguese family style restaurant. Amazingly attentive staff, incredible food. Restaurant only seats 20 but it's worth the wait. All dishes on the menu are prepared for 2, but they offer to do a split of two dishes to sample the delights on offer. Can highly recommend the Bacalhau and the Octopus, both pictured.

GREAT PLACE. Quality/price balance. We had dinner here because we saw it really typical and Portuguese. We had an incredible dinner for only 12€ each (beers included) Really recomendable. Really good Gallo!
David J — Google review
Typical Portuguese food on budget. All food served for 2 persons. Waitresses speak English. All food that is served on the table (olives, bread, cheese) is to be paid for separately. We tried octopus with rice, it was good, a bit salty though and with lots of corriander - be careful if you don't like it. I give it 3 because we got dirty spoons and glasses.
Dariia O — Google review
Highly recommened. Good prices, very good food and service. Most menu items are priced for 2 people but you can order 1/2 for 1/2 the price. Chocolate cake was one of my favourite desserts in Lisbon if you like icing. They put cheese/bread/butter on table but if you don't use it you wont be charged. We had the ribs which were so tender and full of flavour.

OMG this is the best place I have ever been!! The older couple that runs it are to die for. So sweet, so lovely and so warm. That said in winter put something warm on because it will be cold even inside.. I wish I could give these people a 100 stars ❤️❤️❤️.
Anne T — Google review
For tourists it's great, but for locals, stay away. First I asked for the menu while I was waiting outside for a table, the waiter just replied: "Trust me, in a place like this you don't need to read the menu". I was dumbfounded, but I ignored it. The space is pretty but very small, so don't expect a table available right away for you. Later on, we asked for pork tenderloin and mussels. We served the pork from the serving dish to our plates but quickly realized it was cold! So we asked the waiter to heat it up. He threw away the meat in our plates and came back with the remaining in the serving dish, dipped in a huge amount of hot sauce. So we had less to eat. The mussels were ok, not bad but not great (the sauce was olive oil with uncooked Knorr broth). When the waiter asked us if it was good, I said it was ok, apart from the mishap with the pork. My mom said that the mussels weren't bad, but not great either, to which the waiter rudely responds with: "Oh, so you cook it better than us at home?". It was outrageous. We saw that he treated better the tourists than us, maybe because we are Portuguese. For tourists it's great because the food is still much better and cheaper than what is served in most big cities in Europe. In short: - Cozy place, good prices, quick attendance. - Terrible service, rude waiter, food wasn't stellar I would not recommend, but good luck finding something better for this price.

Honestly, been loving ISCO for years, pastry wise indeed no comments, but a huge comment on coffee which I must say is not good, many times ordered cappuccino and either getting just coffee with milk which basically it or it’s so bitter and burnt that I was not even able to finish it😅 I mean, for the price it costs I hope you can improve and really put someone that knows how to make coffee. I found this hidden gem through Google map by chance. I arrived about 13:00 and the restaurant was full. I was told to come back at 14:00 which I did! The service was quick and friendly. I had the delicious grilled cod fish with gorgeous white wine. Plus, an excellent almond tart. Simply an amazing and affordable dining experience! The place was constantly full all the way towards closing time. The restaurant is small and could only fit 21 diners at full capacity. Highly recommend this place!

This tiny (20 seats) tasca serves excellent tradition dishes at very favorable prices. Note that because of the size and popularity, it may be difficult to get a table. I arrived about 12:30 and was seated immediately, but at 1:15 it was full and they were telling people the wait would be an hour, and by 1:30 they were turning people away. Absolutely worth the visit if you can get there early enough to be seated.

Guests have praised the outstanding food and top-tier service, as well as the fresh bread and delicious menu options, including vegetarian dishes.
The duck rice was phenomenal!. So much duck! 2 of us split a portion and it was plenty. (Okay, we had an appetizer of crispy pork sandwich at a different Time Out booth.) Highly recommend. Staff was very attentive.

We really enjoyed the meal! Service was very good, happy to pay the optional service charge. Food was really tasty (we had the cheese and bread for starters, then the chicken and octopus for mains). You will pay more for the seating area, but we were happy to do this rather than look for somewhere in the busy market.
Frances N — Google review
The Duck Rice tasted with quite a heavy taste of wine, could not really differentiate the meat. Texture of the rice was nice though. The cod fish with potato relied mostly on the sauce. The turnip on the side was quite hard to chew. I would not recommend these 2 dishes as a must-try.

We came to O Frade for dinner on a busy Saturday night. We had Rabbit Coentrada, Duck Rice, Black Pork Cheek with Oven Rice and some Couvert items. I had an amazing meal here. The food was outstanding and the service was top tier. The super nice and attentive Asian lady (sorry don't remember her name) was my server and she was amazing. She spoke several languages and managed to be super nice even to the rather rude and demanding French group who were seated next to me. The bread here was super fresh and delicious. I had the escabeche duck for a starter and it was super tasty. My server recommended the ox tail and it was delicious. It was the first time I have had ox tail that wasn't on the bone. I had the encharcada for dessert and it was very nice.
