Baixa-Chiado is the vibrant heart of Lisbon, offering a mix of historic charm and modern attractions. This downtown area is home to major tourist sites, bustling plazas like Praca do Comercio, and an abundance of shopping venues. With its central location, it's the perfect place for first-time visitors to stay in Lisbon as all main attractions are within walking distance. The neighborhood also boasts excellent accessibility with various public transport links.
This was a fantastic underground station for both arrival and departure, with a circular design spanning the concourse that creates a grand feel! The lighting adds an epicness to this, signs help with navigation and the station sign is freshly coloured itself. Platforms are well-sized for the lengthy trains, making connections is easy onwards and the cleanliness is impressive!
K. P — Google review
Lovely metro with 2 different lines, located at the heart of Lisboa, can use it to get from one side to another without climbing stairs
Jerald K — Google review
The sign says elevators. But there are only elevators to get from/to the platform. You have to get up 5 flights of stairs after that.
Pascal K — Google review
Super pretty neighborhood in Lisbon. Arguably where the high end stores and restaurants are, but within walking distance from bars and more of the nightlife. Walk around and do your shopping here, stop frequently for photos.
Thien-Kim Q — Google review
Great place for a stroll, drinks and meals. Enjoyable by all families, kids, pets or walking alone. Especially in the summer most of the time there would be an event there, music, dance, art, etc. I would highly recommend visiting this area if you're in Lisbon
Salwa F — Google review
Great connection point with clear signs where to go, but moving stairs are often broken. You can buy tickets here.
Sami D — Google review
Subway could be better, but good location for the amount of people.

This is for sure one of my favorite places in Lisboa! The pavements with the azulejos are way more than being aesthetic, they carry the history too. The big trees on the avenue offer a fresh atmosphere during summer. There are also 3-4 kiosks to enjoy coffee with a beautiful view.

While this station has some positives - sufficient fare gates to handle passenger flow, reasonable cleanliness, and a convenient central location - the lack of platform screen doors is a significant safety concern.
Taiko — Google review
It's Christmiss time stalls eveywhere. In night at 19:00 you should expect a drum band marching up here. Very very busy area as per the main tourist attraction area. plenty of bars and dinning area in surrounding streets.
Waqas K — Google review
Lift is broken. When you are a tourist carrying large luggage and there is no lift, no escalators, it’s a nightmare

Train station to go to Sintra. The building is wonderful from.outside. inside there's a Starbucks.
Amod G — Google review
The station is good. But in the service counter in 27.05.2020 at the most right corner. The man was too rude. I like to load some money in my card. He looks / even speak in a mode still drunk and behave so badly. If I had some time I should write in their complaints book. The authority should take action. I found his name from my bill. His name was: Jose Ressurreicao.
Harun- R — Google review
This station has lockers for luggage, but only a few of them. This is also a good station for the trolley #

Discovered this place waiting for the train to Santos Amaro Beach, heard the music and made it a point to stop on on the way back. Cool Vibe ! Great Drank and Grub! Coming back here next trip to Lisbon
Joseph D — Google review
For the second day we Could not buy tickets and the screen was not fit for Sun. low level quality.
Nikolai S — Google review
Only 1 vending machine with a screen you almost cannot read and unclear instructions... 30 of queue because no tourist was able to use it. Shame.
Morgan S — Google review
Not al all tourist friendly. Despite the cheap cost of the service, you can’t seem to buy a ticket without coins - I only had notes, cards, and contactless. I jumped on a train hoping I could just pay en route but was told to get off the train at the next stop and buy a ticket from a machine. I got change from a fiver then the machine just spat the coins out, presumably as I don’t have one of those yellow cards to charge. Awful experience.
Jamie B — Google review
I never saw the ticket machine, and I got on the train not knowing I had to get a ticket. I thought I could scan or validate my Lisboa Card on the train. What happened was that I followed Google Maps from the Santos Bus Stop, and walked behind the ticket machines. I then followed the sign to walk across the bridge to the other platform. Lisbon authorities should ask Google Maps to fix the path, otherwise people will just walk past the ticket machine, and board the train without buying a ticket. :-)
Brendan C — Google review
Too bad ticket machine screen was barely readable because of scratches and low brightness. Only coins were accepted… only coins!!! No cards nor cash! Very disappointing. Also, there was none to ask for support…
Andrea ( — Google review
As a Portuguese I feel ashamed of the quality of this train station. An area where lots of tourists pass, there is hardly any guidance on how to use properly the ONLY machine available and no ATM cards are accepted. Average group takes 5 minutes to buy the ticket so if there are just 5 groups in line it can easily take 20-30 minutes just to buy a ticket! Browsing through the comments it seems it is an issue that is still ongoing for the past 4 years!!! Vergonhoso da CP Portugal. The amount of money lost because passengers cannot buy the ticket is ridiculous. This also happens in Belém station used by several tourists 👎 Please CP put more machines or at least fix the only one available to work properly. It shouldn't be such a big investment...
Francisco N — Google review
This train station only has one ticket machine which takes on average 5 minutes per person to use. In the 35 mins me and a friend waited 6 people got through out of a queue of 30 people.

LX Factory, located in Alcantara, Lisbon, is a revitalized historical industrial complex that has transformed into a vibrant hub for art, design, and gastronomy. This former abandoned area now houses an eclectic mix of creative businesses including design companies, artsy retailers, unique restaurants and bookshops. The industrial atmosphere of the space provides a home to numerous craft shops offering original concepts such as handwoven rugs and cushions at Saudade Design and artisanal preserves at Comur.
Such a cool spot. Lovely stores and restaurants. Try and get there over a weekend when they have " stalls" as well. I absolutely loved it. They have lovely stores for some serious shopping. Easy to get to when you take the hop on hop off bus. I think its stop 8, but dont hold me to it :)..well worth a stop. And much cheaper for sovenairs.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Forget everything else - this industrial playground just became your new Lisbon obsession LX Factory is hands down the coolest spot in Lisbon and I will fight anyone who disagrees 🥊 This former textile factory turned creative wonderland under the 25 de Abril Bridge is where Lisbon's soul really lives. Forget the typical tourist traps - this is where locals actually hang out and where magic happens on every corner. The mix is absolutely perfect: quirky art shops selling pieces you'll actually want to take home, restaurants serving everything from gourmet burgers to fusion tapas, and bars that range from cosy wine spots to buzzing cocktail joints 🍷 Every building tells a story, every wall is canvas, and every corner reveals something unexpected. The vintage bookshop alone is worth the trip! Best part? The vibe is effortlessly cool without trying too hard. You can spend an entire day here - browsing art, grabbing lunch, sipping drinks, and soaking up that creative energy. Sunday markets are chef's kiss perfect. This place proves Lisbon isn't just about pastéis and trams - it's about innovation, creativity, and damn good vibes! 🎨 Absolutely essential Lisbon experience!

It’s a great hub of local restaurants, businesses, and artists in an old, converted factory. You can find restaurants, bars, cafes, to clothing shops and jewelry makers and artists all within a walking distance. It is a bit pricey but I had a blast just walking around and checking out the cool shops. I personally loved the book store. It is a bit out of the way, but if you’re in Lisbon, it’s a must visit place.
Scott L — Google review
A wonderful art space. It used to be old warehouses, and today it’s filled with art sculptures, graffiti, and lovely little shops. There’s a beautiful bookstore, a record store, and plenty of cafés and restaurants. A must-visit!

Former industrial space repurposed and repopulated by restaurants, makers shops, an amazing bookshop, a brilliant (mainly jazz) record shop and artist’s studios. It’s not a unique concept but it’s been done fantastically here with old blending into the new beautifully. Very organic. Easily worth at least half a day.

Pink Street, officially known as Rua Nova do Carvalho, is a vibrant pedestrian street in Lisbon that has earned its nickname from the color of its pavement. This small but lively street is the heart of Lisbon's nightlife and has been recognized by the New York Times as one of Europe's favorite streets. Hosting a bustling street party atmosphere throughout the week, Pink Street attracts both locals and tourists who gather outside its various bars and clubs.
Pink Street is one of those iconic spots in Lisbon that you just have to experience at least once. By day, it’s a charming and colorful street, perfect for photos and a quick stroll, but it really comes alive at night. The atmosphere is vibrant and full of energy, with a mix of bars, clubs, and restaurants to choose from. Whether you’re looking for a fun night out with friends, live music, or just people-watching with a drink in hand, Pink Street delivers. It’s lively without losing its charm, and the pink-painted cobblestones give it a unique character that makes it stand out from other nightlife areas. Definitely worth checking out if you want to experience Lisbon’s fun side

At night this area is the party zone, music is thumping liquor is flowing and people on in the party zone! We had a great night, we settled in early 7:30 pm we got a table right on the street at one of bars “the Oasis,”and watched the world go by. We saw 3 types of people, those that just wanted to look down the street and take a picture, those who would at least walk down the street to see what was going on, and those (like us ) that actually got a table outside and fully enjoyed the experience! Picturesque during the day but worth a trip down at night.

Buzzing place in the evenings… we stumbled across Pink St purely by accident and so glad we did. Lots of things going on, superb vibe, and loads of bars, clubs and restaurants. Street vendors offering snacks and selling cigs too - but no pressure. Great place to go for some vibrant nightlife, would recommend for sure..

Joyful street, full of bars and fun! Sometimes a bit hard to keep the conversation going given that this narrow street is full of bars with a really close tables. Fun experience for a few drinks, yet I would like choose somewhere else if I want to enjoy the sun and view.

A purely touristy street without anything special. It gets quite crowded with people just stopping to take a photo. The surrounding area isn’t anything remarkable either. There are definitely much better places to visit in Lisbon.

Nestled in the heart of Lisbon, Hotel Portugal - Portugal Boutique Hotel is a charming blend of historic elegance and modern design. Each room boasts its own unique decor, featuring stunning Portuguese tiles that reflect the city's rich heritage. The minimalist furnishings harmonize beautifully with traditional architectural elements like arched stone doorways and hardwood floors. Guests can enjoy a delightful complimentary breakfast made from fresh seasonal ingredients in the cozy wood-paneled breakfast room.
We had a truly wonderful stay at Portugal Boutique Hotel! Good location to restaurants, shopping and sites. The hospitality was outstanding. The staff were friendly, helpful, and professional, making us feel right at home. Each morning, we enjoyed a delicious hot buffet breakfast, which was a great way to start the day. Our room had high ceilings, was spotlessly clean, and featured soft, cozy linens along with a sleek, modern bathroom. My husband and I are so happy we chose to stay here. We’ll definitely be recommending Portugal Boutique Hotel to our family and friends.

🍒 A Truly Royal Stay at Royal Boutique Hotel, Lisbon 🍷 Staying at the Royal Boutique Hotel was one of the highlights of our Lisbon trip. Located just a 5-minute walk from the city center and the starting point of Tram 28, it’s in a perfect spot—central yet peaceful. From the moment we arrived, the reception staff were incredibly helpful, walking us through maps and all the must-see places in Lisbon. Their warmth really set the tone for our stay. Our room was spacious, neat, and beautifully maintained—with a touch of quiet luxury. We were welcomed with a complimentary drink at the bar, which was such a nice start. But what truly stood out were the evening surprises. On the first night, after a long day of sightseeing, we returned to our room to find Ginja (a delicious Portuguese cherry liqueur) waiting for us—served alongside marshmallows and cherries. The next evening, we were surprised with a small bottle of Toni Port wine, accompanied by fresh strawberries and snacks. And every night, when we turned down the bed, there was a small chocolate tucked into the sheets—a simple but lovely gesture that made us smile. The staff made sure every detail felt thoughtful, and the hotel felt like a cozy retreat at the end of each day. I left feeling truly cared for. Highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Lisbon who wants comfort, great location, and genuine hospitality.

Great location. Immaculately clean. Good offerings for breakfast. Excellent staff who were very personable, professional and helpful, both before and during our stay. Nice convenience for hotel to arrange transfers from airport to the hotel, and from the hotel to the cruise port. The only improvement would be onsite dining at the hotel for lunch/dinner. Would definitely recommend.

I stayed here twice in the past week due to a recent trip. My room during the first leg of the journey went beyond my expectations. Excellent room, turn down service with chocolate, quiet! ( 5 stars) I felt like I won the lottery. I did encounter another visitor in the elevator who asked me about sound; she had endured the rumbling of the Metra and didn't get a wink of sleep. Little did I know at the time this was a portent into my 2nd experience at the hotel. The room was similar in quality HOWEVER I experienced the rumble of the Metra, at times every 10 minutes,15 minutes. I knew how much time was allotted for boarding ( 2 minutes).I knew when it was late. I knew when it stopped for the night (1:30am) and when it resumed (5:55am). Earplugs didn't work because of the anticipated tremors. I had been trying to fall asleep since 10am ( zero stars). I finally went downstairs to Reception at 1am to request a quiet room. As it was at 100% capacity they could do nothing. Perhaps had I stayed there again longer we could have worked something out, but I was set to leave at 9:45am, only nods of understanding but zero attempt of mitigating my most miserable night. If TL;DR, request a courtyard room, not a street facing room if you book here.

Had a wonderful 3 night stay in late August. We arrived very tired, and early in the morning. We did not expect our room to be ready but the staff were very accommodating. We were able to change into fresh clothes after travelling from Vancouver, they brought us coffee and pastries and stored our bags. They ensured they had a contact number for us and assured us they would let us know when our room was ready. We ended up returning to the hotel around 1;30 as we didn’t have sunscreen on and they surprised us with a wonderful upgrade to a suite. The hotel’s location is perfect and the staff were amazing. Wished we could stay again in October but they are fully booked. Uber dropped of us about 25m from the door and we walked down a pedestrian lane to the entrance.

Best hotel I’ve ever stayed at, and I’ve stayed at many. The rooms are spacious and clean, the location is ideal, the included breakfast is delicious. But the main reason is overwhelmingly the staff. The service is just top-notch and every single person we came across was kind and made our stay memorable. We especially appreciated the gifts we received after a long day of sightseeing. Cannot wait to come back to Lisbon and stay here!!!

This was the second time we came to the hotel. Last time we got a free upgrade to a deluxe room so we booked this in advance this time round. Unfortunately we got room 214 which is at the end of the corridor and it certainly does not qualify as deluxe. Whenever a tram passes by the noise in the room was extremely loud and the room started shaking. When we mentioned this at our departure the comment was that we should have asked for a quiet room. Really? You pay extra for deluxe but then need to specifically ask for a quiet room? Very unfortunate that we ended up in this room as otherwise I would have given a 5 star rating.

Stayed here for a night. Nice, clean rooms. Super location! Our room backed up to Pink Street in Lisbon, and I was worried about the noise, but the windows are so high end that we did not hear a single thing. Very comfortable hotel, great staff, and amazing location.

An excellent choice. Hotel looks like it was recently renovated. The bedroom was spacious and modern. Our particular room had a tiny bathroom. The windows did an excellent job of keeping the room quiet from the outside. There were automatic shades that kept the room dark at night. It is conveniently located Metro. There are plenty of restaurants around and sights to see.

Beautiful hotel with great service. Provided a crib for my child and helped bring my stroller in (I don't recommend a stroller for Lisboa). 5 min walk and easy access to metro station and busses. The area can get loud at night however hotel provides earplugs for the inconvenience. Recommend this hotel for couples or groups.

I stayed at LX Boutique Hotel for a short city break and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the amenities. The shower in my room was excellent, with strong water pressure and complimentary toiletries that felt a step above the usual hotel basics. The room itself was well-appointed, featuring air conditioning, a minibar, and free Wi-Fi, which made for a comfortable and convenient stay. One thing to note is the hotel’s location, right in the heart of Lisbon’s lively entertainment district. There are plenty of restaurants and pubs just outside, which is great if you want to explore the local nightlife, but it does mean there can be quite a bit of street noise, especially in the evenings. My room faced the road, and while the windows helped block some of the sound, the music and crowds from the bars below were still noticeable. However, the hotel was thoughtful enough to provide ear plugs in the room, which was a courteous touch and helped me get a good night’s sleep. If you’re sensitive to noise, I recommend requesting a room away from the main street when you book. The staff are friendly and accommodating, and the quieter rooms make a big difference for light sleepers. Overall, LX Boutique Hotel is a stylish and comfortable base for exploring Lisbon, especially if you want to be close to the action, but it’s worth planning ahead to ensure a restful stay.

Immediately after checking into my room, I got bad vibes, felt like I can’t breathe properly. Took a quick shower but the shower/toilet walls were black in colour, made the suffocating feeling I had a lot worse. Decided everything felt really off, booked another hotel and checked out. Staff were not bothered or surprised at all. Just said ok and didn’t even offer to help with my luggage or anything. The minute I stepped back onto the street I felt a huge sense of relief! Do not choose this hotel.

Location excellent, found the fixtures and fittings a little cheap ie loo seat in our room was falling off. Reception and cleaning staff very nice. There was some unnecessary staff stress in the breakfast dining room most mornings. They had very loud voices, both speaking to customers and between themselves, so not very calm in the mornings, shame.

The 7 Hotel is a stylish and cozy property located in the heart of Baixa, surrounded by bars and boutiques. The rooms are warmly decorated with modern designs, floor-to-ceiling windows, and chic lighting. Guests can opt for studios or family rooms for extra space. The hotel offers a great breakfast and is conveniently close to Avenida da Liberdade, the castle, and public transportation. Visitors have praised the friendly reception staff and the cleanliness of the rooms.
The hotel is in a great location with easy access to the airport. The train station is just a few meters away, and the journey takes about 35 minutes. There are plenty of restaurants and coffee shops nearby. We stayed for three nights in a triple-bed room (Room 306), which was clean and comfortable. The shower was great, and there was a good selection of TV channels. The staff were friendly and helpful. If you have a late flight, the hotel allows you to store your luggage. We chose to have breakfast elsewhere as we enjoy exploring, but for those who prefer to eat at the hotel, breakfast is available.

BED BUGS 🪳🪳🪳🪳🪳 I stayed in Room 405 and woke up with numerous bites on my arms and body, only to find a dead bug with bloodstains on my pillow, and another under the duvet. As a solo traveller, this was alarming enough that I had to check out urgently at 9PM and book another hotel. While I understand it may be difficult to confirm the exact species from photos, the circumstances strongly suggested bed bugs—especially given the blood-filled body and bite patterns. Despite notifying the reception immediately and forwarding photos, the hotel provided no follow-up or assistance. I later had to escalate the issue through Agoda just to get a partial refund. I’ve seen the hotel’s response claiming the photos “do not show a bed bug” and that rooms are disinfected. Even if there’s uncertainty about the species, dismissing a serious concern raised by a guest without investigation is extremely poor customer service. No guest should have to defend the fact that they were bitten in their sleep and found blood-stained insects in bed. I hope the hotel takes guest concerns more seriously in the future. Until then, I cannot recommend staying here. Added my correspondence with the hotel.
Cryiz T — Google review
I recently stayed at this hotel and found the experience to be quite disappointing in several ways. The room was moderately clean but lacked basic amenities. There was no complimentary drinking water provided, and all water had to be purchased at an extra cost. Tea and coffee were not refilled daily, and even those required an additional charge for replenishment, which felt unreasonable for a hotel stay. During my stay, I accidentally left my key inside the room. When housekeeping entered, they took the key without notifying me, which caused unnecessary inconvenience. Additionally, when I arrived 15 minutes before check-in time, the hotel refused to give me the room, showing no flexibility or hospitality. Overall, I found the service to be below expectations and not guest-friendly. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel unless some serious improvements are made in terms of basic service and customer care. Rating: ★★☆☆☆ (2 out of 5)

Great hotel to stay in while having a city trip. The hotel is located nearby the metro (max. 2 min walk), near a lot of good restaurants and some touristic places. The room we had was nothing special, but just fine. Only a dripping crane when it was on. Breakfast is between 7-11 am, just things as tea, coffee, scrambled egg, fruit and some breads. Don’t expect too much choice but it’s good. Personal is very kind and open to give you tips to go to!

The property is clean and great location, walkable to most things you might want to see whilst in the centre of Lisbon. I'm just rating it overall a 3 star though as we booked and paid for the internal balcony/decking area (so no windows to the outside but access to a deck inside with chairs and coverage to relax in) but it was actually closed for repairs. There was a hole on the decking floor, scaffolding etc. But at no point in the run-up to our stay did the hotel let us know about this. They let us book it so maybe it happened after our booking. But they didn't attempt to contact us, nor did they tell us about it when we checked in. We had to find it out by ourselves, which was a real shame as we specifically searched for days for a hotel that had some kind of relaxing balcony or deck with a small kitchen. We didn't even keep the curtains to it open as we'd just be looking at scaffolding, broken floors, and cigarette butts. We noticed they updated their own website with notice about the repairs, but again, they never bothered to let us know. I also hate the idea of putting the responsibility on me to tell them or ask them about it for some kind of compensation because I'm the one that was surprised by all this, so why not they proactively try to do something about it like offer another room?

We stayed at The 7 Hotel Lisbon for 4 nights — and it was one of the worst hotel experiences we’ve ever had. On the night of June 21st, around 10:40 PM, a random man entered our locked hotel room while we were in bed. My partner and I jumped up, shocked and terrified. The man — bald, older, sober, and spoke fluent English — refused to leave until my partner threatened to push him out. It was a horrifying moment, and it was very clear this was not a simple mistake. I immediately ran to reception and reported the incident to a staff member named Nimita. Instead of taking it seriously, she dismissed it with a casual “This has never happened before — maybe once.” She said she’d call a manager, but no one followed up. I went back again after 15 minutes, still shaken, and begged for someone to check the CCTV — still, nothing. Zero urgency, zero empathy. At checkout around 4 AM, we spoke to another staff member, Karim. He told us Nimita had decided it was just another guest “accidentally” entering our room. No investigation. No apology. No accountability. We explained the incident again and seriously asked him to please update via email after they check cctv footages of what was the man up to before entering our room. He assured us they will within that day. After 24hours we’ve gotten nothing. I followed up by email. Nimita responded once, apologised, and promised an update within 24 hours. It’s now been more than a week — no update, no explanation, nothing. We left Lisbon feeling violated, unsafe, and traumatised. This should never happen in any hotel, let alone one that claims to care about its guests. Imagine if this situation happened to an alone guest or an all female guests. Worst thing could have happened. Shame on The 7 Hotel Lisbon for how you handled such a serious security breach. If you can’t keep your guests safe, you shouldn’t be in business. Do yourselves a favour and don’t stay at this horrible Hotel

The neighborhood is known for its multiculturalism, reflected in its diverse dining options and art galleries.
Intendente Station on the Lisbon Metro Green Line Intendente is a station on the Green Line (Linha Verde) of the Lisbon Metro. It first opened on September 28, 1966, and is located beneath the busy Avenida Almirante Reis. A key thing to know is that the station is currently not accessible for those who need elevators. A major upgrade project began in January 2024 to install three new elevators, with the goal of making it a fully accessible station. The station's original architecture was designed by Dinis Gomes, and it features the characteristic tilework (azulejos) of the Lisbon Metro, with panels by the renowned artist Maria Keil. For connections, Intendente station provides easy access to several Carris urban bus routes, including the Aerobus #1 which goes to the airport. The famous Tram 28 (28E) also has a stop very close to the station entrance. Jerónimos Monastery, a stunning late Gothic Manueline-style monastery in Lisbon, offers a unique experience for visitors. The monastery houses archaeology and maritime museums in its wings, providing an opportunity to explore Portuguese history and maritime heritage. Families can enjoy medieval storytelling in the cloisters and visit the nearby Maritime Museum with its children's section and model ships. Adjacent to Belem Palace, expansive lawns offer space for picnics and outdoor activities.
The Jerónimos Monastery is the true jewel of Manueline architecture. This monastery is unbelievably gorgeous! Pay special attention to the intricate carvings that depict Portugal’s heroes and moments from its history. Don’t miss visiting the tombs of Vasco da Gama, Luís de Camões, and Fernando Pessoa. I recommend buying your tickets in advance and, if possible, joining a guided tour to better understand the history and symbolism behind the monastery. I visited without a tour, and even though my ticket was for 8 a.m., individual visitors were only allowed in after the tour groups, so I could enter at 9 a.m. Also, be sure to visit the church — it opens one hour later than the monastery — where you’ll find the tombs of Vasco da Gama and Camões. If you come to Lisbon and don’t visit Jerónimos, it’s as if you haven’t truly been to Lisbon!
Murillo P — Google review
The Jerónimos Monastery is truly one of the most beautiful and impressive monuments in Portugal. Located in the Belém district of Lisbon, this UNESCO World Heritage site is a breathtaking example of Manueline architecture a style unique to Portugal, filled with maritime symbols, detailed carvings, and incredible craftsmanship. From the moment you arrive, the grand façade and intricate stonework leave you in awe. Every column, arch, and detail seems to tell a story about Portugal’s rich history during the Age of Discoveries. Inside, the cloisters are simply magical peaceful, elegant, and full of light. Walking through the corridors feels like stepping back in time, surrounded by centuries of art, devotion, and exploration. The church itself is magnificent, with high vaulted ceilings, delicate columns, and the tombs of famous Portuguese figures like Vasco da Gama and Luís de Camões, which make the visit even more meaningful. The site is very well preserved and well organized, with helpful staff and informative exhibits. It can get quite busy, so going early or later in the afternoon is best to fully enjoy the calm and beauty of the place. Overall, the Jerónimos Monastery is a true symbol of Portugal’s golden era and a must-visit attraction in Lisbon. It’s not just a monument it’s a celebration of art, faith, and history that will stay in your heart long after your visit!

Admission is included here (and many other sites) with the Lisboa pass. You do NOT need a separate entrance ticket for this site with the Lisboa pass. Saves you money and a ticket line. Pick it up by the train station. Our food tour guide told us about the monastery and how the king built it for his prize fighter that wanted to live a poor religious life after winning epic battle. The whole thing was built with 1/10th of the pepper tax from that time. Just mind blowing! Beautiful monastery. The line was long but moved quickly. Each of the gargoyles are different in the courtyard and worth seeing how many different ones you can spot.
Nicole M — Google review
My Takeaways: 1. Buying tickets in advance is essential, even during the low season. 2. Expect long lines at the entrance—waiting time can be up to an hour, even if you have an assigned time slot. 3. The visit to the monastery takes around 40 minutes. 4. Pay attention to the decorative elements symbolizing different plants. In front of the monastery, there is a garden showcasing these plants, along with information about their use and symbolic significance. 5. Visual signage and information inside are limited. Audio guides are not always convenient—your phone might not be fully charged, the pace might not suit you, or you might want to skip ahead or go back. 6. Your personal experience and appreciation of the architecture will largely depend on your familiarity with Gothic structures. 7. A fascinating historical detail: the Jerónimos Monastery was funded by wealth gained through the Indian spice trade. 8. The monastery is located in a very crowded area, surrounded by museums and the Monument to the Discoveries. I wouldn’t recommend visiting during the high season. Even during the low season, parking can be difficult—it may take up to 30 extra minutes to find a spot, even with pre-booked entrance tickets.

***warning*** If you are visiting with Lisboa card, visit the first thing in the morning at opening hour. Even though the card reader says “skip the line”, Lisboa card holders have no priority at all. The only advantage is you don’t pay the 18€ and you don’t need to get an actual ticket from the ticket booth. Card holders have their own line. But the patrons with time slot assigned have priority. I stay in line for 1 hour 15 mins. People who arrived 25 minutes after I did got in before I did. Also I didn’t get to visit the church. Apparently someone important died- hundreds of luxury vehicles parked outside and illustrious attendees went into the church- hence church is closed to public. The monastery itself is a great structure.
Silvia X — Google review
The monastery was amazing. We loved it. We were also lucky that with a young kid in the stroller we were allowed to skip all lines. If you are not that lucky, you need to wait quite some time in the line, but you will not be disappointed.
Bjoern F — Google review
Extremely busy- the queue was snaking for long. Worth coming really early or grabbing a bite to eat and exploring Belem before coming back in the afternoon. Much shorter wait after 2pm although still busy inside. Beautiful, stunning architecture both from the outside and inside.
Nilvanta K — Google review
Nice place inside, you make cool photos. But you cannot read inside much about place. Finished in half an hour. Worst part was queue in full sun for time slot we bought tickets online (14:00), when we reached gate for our slot (13:30-14:30), they sent us back on end of queue because they probably changed slot, not marked well, very annoyed staff, no explanation. By my opinion not worth of 20 eur per person and waiting in line hour in full sun. Tickets are in park accross, do not wait in line without tickets. 😉

The Santa Justa Lift, a cast-iron elevator adorned with intricate details, was constructed in 1902 to connect the lower streets with Carmo Square. It offers panoramic views of Lisbon's historic center and landmarks such as Praca do Comercio and Arco da Rua Augusta. This neo-Gothic styled lift, designed by Raul Mesnier de Pondard, provides a 360-degree view over Baixa from the top.
Actually I did not take the lift, but I was at the upper level. I heard that the Santa Justa Lift free view was almost as good as the paid view, so I just stayed where I was instead of gong to the upper viewing platform (the stairs were closed off). I had to put my phone between the bars to get good photos, holding on tight in the wind, so be careful! All around there were great views so worth a quick visit!
Eileen W — Google review
Worth a stop. Only €6 to ride the lift, which is really a fun piece of history. Sure, it's a little slow but a fun experience. If you don't want to pay, just keep walking, you will find the top. If you do pay the lift, then you can go to the very top by stairs which has some even better views.
Michael B — Google review
⭐⭐⭐⭐ Tourist trap? Yes. Still worth it? Also yes (with conditions) 🛗 Let's be honest - Santa Justa Lift is absolutely crawling with tourists and you'll pay premium prices for what is essentially a very slow, very ornate elevator ride. But here's the thing: it's genuinely beautiful neo-Gothic ironwork, and those views from the top are properly spectacular. Sometimes tourist attractions become tourist attractions for good reason! That said, here's your insider move: skip the lift queue entirely and take the stairs from Rua do Carmo. It's a surprisingly easy walk up through Carmo ruins area, costs nothing, gives you a decent leg stretch, and you'll still get those same panoramic views over Baixa and the river. Plus you'll feel smugly superior watching the queues below while you're already up there sipping coffee. The lift itself is undeniably charming if you appreciate 19th-century engineering, and it does connect Baixa to Bairro Alto efficiently. Just don't expect it to be a hidden gem - embrace the tourist experience or take the stairs like a savvy local. Either way, those views are absolutely worth it! 📸✨
Tom D — Google review
It is ok for the view point but it is worth the wait or money, not so sure. But it is cool to ride the old elevator just money and time could be better spent elsewhere. It is always lined up. I wouldn’t do again especially going to other view points in the city that are better views.
Luke L — Google review
During my visit, to Santa Justa Lift was unfortunately out of service, which was quite disappointing since I had really looked forward to experiencing the famous view from the top. However, the surrounding area made up for it full of charm, energy, and plenty of great shops to explore. Even though I missed the ride itself, spending time in that part of the city still turned into a pleasant experience. I’d definitely love to come back once the lift is working again!
Karina S — Google review
The elevator is a tourist trap that you'll pay over 6 € but you can climb the stairs for free or go to the old church for the same view ... The elevator was created to facilitate access between the Baixa and Bairro Alto districts. At the time, it was considered one of the most modern elevators of its era. Designed by the Portuguese engineer Raoul Mesnier du Ponsard, a disciple of Gustave Eiffel, which metal structure is reminiscent of the beloved Eiffel Tower ...
Enjoy L — Google review
Super OLD & extremely SLOW wooden elevator going up about 5-6 floors :) The wait was long, because it was so slow. I wanted to take the elevator after sundown for the cool atmosphere and amazing night view!! Visit during the day, under scorching sun wouldn’t have been a great experience in my opinion. No ticket needed with Lisboa Card, which was a plus. I don’t think i would have gone for the ride if I had to pay 5euros.
Hanna B — Google review
Go early in the morning or close to sunset to avoid long lines. Once you’re at the top, the view over the city and the Tagus River is breathtaking. You can also access the viewpoint from a nearby street without paying for the lift, if you’re just after the view.

Restaurant
Nestled near the Portuguese Parliament, Café de São Bento is a charming eatery that has been delighting patrons since 1982. With its warm wooden decor and inviting ambiance, this classic restaurant is renowned for serving some of Lisbon's finest steaks. The highlight of the menu is undoubtedly the Bife à Café de São Bento, a delectable dish bathed in a creamy pepper sauce that pays homage to traditional cooking methods from the 18th century.
Strong NYC vibes in this cozy, luxurious little dining room that has jazz and crooners playing in the background. Service is great and so is the steak which tastes much better than it looks in the photos. What can I say? It’s not a photogenic steak. Cocktails are solid and wine selection is too. Not the cheapest dinner but I’d be hard pressed to find a place that will treat you better for less. I consider it a very good value.
Craig V — Google review
Amazing experience 👍🏻 Loved the retro atmosphere. The food was overall great. One of the best tartars I ever had. Freshly chopped meat, amazingly dressed and seasoned 👍🏻 The gambas was great as well. The steaks were cooked to perfection and of good quality. The creamy sauce is not my personal favorite we all preferred the plain grilled one.
Khaled A — Google review
A perfect dinner at a prestigious, long-established steakhouse became one of the most memorable highlights of our trip to Portugal. The exterior and interior of the restaurant exude timeless tradition and class. The waiters’ seasoned, professional service was deeply respectful and admirable. Every dish was outstanding, and the traditional-style steak in particular offered a unique flavor unlike anything I’ve tasted before.
Ben J — Google review
Very classic steak place in Lisbon, which is old school and interesting. We went to experience the decor and atmosphere. We first were seated on the main floor in the back room by the bathroom door with Library Book wallpaper - strange table. Luckily we asked to be moved, so they relocated us to the 1st floor at a table that was much better experience. The food was alright but not exceptional. The menu is small with little options for non-meat (which is reasonable for a steak focused restaurant). We started with the garlic shrimp, which was good and what you would expect. Our son and I had filet steaks, 1 with and 1 without coffee/cream sauce. My wife had the Vegetables Wellington which was basically roasted veg in some pastry dough. The highlight of out food was the excellent chocolate cake and Port wine. We are glad we have experienced Sao Bento in the original location, however, we will likely not return since Lisbon has such vast food options.
Michael H — Google review
Like a secret club, to enter Café de São Bento you must ring a bell. A waiter comes to open the door and all you can peak inside is the red velvet curtains which, once open, unveils what you will soon discover to be the best steak in Lisbon. in a refined setting. Make sure to book as this has been for the past 4 decades the go to place for locals seeking a good steak. We were the first into the door and lucky enough to be able to have the whole place to ourselves for a few minutes until the crowds arrived and the restaurant became lively and packed with people. The sauce of the famous File a Cafe Sao Bento is to die for and it’s recipe a well kept secret.
Playmo B — Google review
We had the best experience here! An absolute must eat in Lisbon. Make sure to try both the traditional and Portuguese style steaks. The decor and ambiance helped set the tone and the restaurant’s house red from Douro was to die for. We would definitely eat here again!
Trayce W — Google review
Recommended by hotel. With too much seafood option in the city, we went to this restaurant to have something different. Shrimp was so tasty. Must dip the bread into the sauce and eat with garlic. The steak was also good. The sauce was amazing. The fries weren’t crispy nor flavourful but were tasty enough by dipping into the sauce. Would definitely go back if we are back in Lisbon.

Museum
The National Museum of Contemporary Art, located in the old Sao Francisco da Cidade monastery, is a world-class museum showcasing Portuguese art from 1850 to the present. The collection includes works by renowned Portuguese artists such as Columbano and Negreiros, as well as French sculptures and pieces by Rodin. With over 5000 pieces encompassing painting, sculpture, design, photography, and new media, the museum offers a comprehensive view of major artistic movements.
This was a very cool exhibit to see. Lots of great artwork. Definitely worth a visit and price was reasonable. If you are into art make the time to check it out.
Luke L — Google review
Well worth visiting when there are a good range of exhibitions on. Some of the galleries are a bit hidden away and so you do need to follow signs and be willing to explore. One badly signed back corridor and stair leads into the old building at the back, which is well worth exploring.
P R — Google review
This was included as a part of my Lisboa card! I am glad I didn’t pay for this on its own as it wouldn’t have been worth it unfortunately. The space is beautiful and clearly a historic building being used for a great purpose. I barely had a welcoming upon entering. I had to ask where the exhibitions started as that was not explained. It was hard to navigate and after reading the reviews now it seems I missed a whole back section of the museum :( Not sure if this was a hallway I missed or if it was an area closed off. I shouldn’t have to pre-read through reviews to find out this information though. The garden looks like it would be a really lovely space as well but it was closed and under construction from the looks of it. Even the washrooms lack signage. Could be so worth it with a few tweaks.
Jasmine P — Google review
This is a really remarkable contemporary art museum currently presenting a couple of women artists, too. For me after getting tired and sensory overloaded by Lisbon‘s Disney-like overtourism this was the perfect place to calm down on my last day in the city. The interior design of the building with steel and glass bridges under brick vaults is worth the visit, too. I especially enjoyed the Petrified Museum show on the floor.
Katja K — Google review
Interesting collection of portuguese contemporary art pieces, mostly from the 20th century. Did not find the flow of the museum easy to navigate, and the exit is on the opposite side of the building, so if you left something in the lockers then you would have to walk back or around the outside of the building. Free as part of the government's 52 day initiative for portuguese residents.

Truly amazing take on the 20th century art ! They were modern then and crazy and unique now .. the museum is in the best location possible, 4 more museums next to it and a waterfront with so many attractions to see
Yassar R — Google review
Not a good start when my partner & I got to the museum at 1pm on a Tuesday to find that they were about to close for an hour - it doesn't say this when you look at their hours on google, but have to go into the website for clarity. Overall, an absolute ripoff of a museum. My partner & I paid 10eu each to visit, & it took us a total of half an hour to see the whole thing! It didn't contain any pieces that were particularly interesting, & even when we did want to know more about the piece, the only information the plaques provided were about who owned the pieces. It's also the first museum I've been to where you have to double-back through the whole thing to be able to get back to the lockers & exit?! Really not worth the price; even if it was free, I'd say it's a pretty subpar exhibit. Check out the review where the guy posted 50 photos from inside; that's pretty much everything.
Sevi F — Google review
You can escape from crowded touristy spots by stepping into the museum located in the heart of Lisbon. It’s 3 story buildings that offer arts from 19th century to current. Some exhibits can be edgy which I loved. Recommend it.

During challenging times, Marta Figueiredo ingeniously combined her restaurant and bakery to offer a special takeaway menu featuring mouthwatering dishes perfect for weekend indulgence.
One of the best breakfasts I've had!! The scrambled eggs left such a good impression, they were soooo delicious! But the same goes for everything else, the bread, the butter 🤩 and the cinnamon roll. And the combo of scrambled eggs with the jam was a 10. I sat outside and enjoyed a lot. (I also used my laptop for a while). Totally recommend if you're looking for a fulfilling breakfast with real ingredients!

This hotel was one of the best hotel experiences I have had. The staff is wonderful, the location is wonderful and the grounds are beautiful and well kept. I had a minor room issue that I addressed to Pedro and immediately Lorenzo called me back and remedied the issue. The concierge was absolutely fantastic, knowledgeable and immediate with bookings and reservations. Catarina at the concierge went above and beyond for me. I was traveling alongside my small son and I could not have asked for a better experience. It has now become part of my most cherished holidays. So glad to have booked Tivoli Liberdade.

Our room, #428, was lovely and had a spacious balcony overlooking the attractive, but busy, Avenida de Liberdade. The room was tastefully decorated and well designed for comfort. The hotels location is ideal for vacationers who desire easy access to important sites and fine dining. Hotel service was attentive and pleasant. The breakfast buffet was among the best we've experienced. We enjoyed staying at the Tivoli and would recommend it, highly.

Very nice atmosphere with great art pieces! All in all the environment is just very peaceful. Love it here! Update: I returned tonight to take some photos of the lobby to add them to my review and was offered a beverage with some snacks. I would like to especially mention bar tender Tiago for preparing the perfect lemonade ensuring that I feel welcome and comfortable. Together with his colleagues Flávio, Beatriz and Rodrigo, I could not have asked for a more soothing time in the lobby in the evening of a regular, but very busy Monday. Thanks a lot, guys / muito obrigado! 🙏

Staff was terrible. Required some guests to sit in the lobby for 6 hours before a room was available while others cruised through and checked in. Didn’t mention the pool area or anything else that could be done with that time. Slow to respond to any kind of request. The location is great, but service isn’t at the Four Seasons level. I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. From the moment I walked in, the front desk was friendly and welcoming. Very nice hotel and great location. Our room unfortunately had no windows so was very stuffy and claustrophobic. We were only staying one night in Lisbon on our travels so it was okay but would not spend more than one night in that room. Nice comfortable bar and friendly staff.

Gorgeous hotel. Very wonderful staff, everyone was friendly and vibrant. I arrived late after initially ending up at the sister hotel, and the staff were very patient and kind and even upgraded my room. I would definitely stay here again when visiting Lisbon as the hotel and its location are wonderful. Great for a solo female traveler!

Stayed two nights Oct 2- 4. Guy at check in was nice but the rest of the staff are ignorant and rude. Hotel is odd. The corridors in pitch darkness as you get out of the elevator are weird. The rooms was nice but the bathroom was terrible. No area to place your own bathroom products, shower was terrible ( very third world and a poor design) Breakfast was not good. Cramped area, no service at all and average tasting and looking food on the buffet. Coffee machine was on a cramped area so I didn’t even bother getting one. European coffee is rubbish anyway. Staff never acknowledge you. Is their no management? Won’t return or recommend

5 stars is truly an understatement for this hotel. The facilities are well thought out, the room is comfortable, the shower is an experience and the whole mini bar is courtesy. There are treats, water and other drinks as a courtesy throughout the hotel. There are no hidden fees or extras to worry about. We were in town for the marathon and requested an early breakfast specific to our needs and they promptly obliged. We also asked if they had any late checkout availability, and they gladly arranged it. The spa is very nice and well equipped, with a jacuzzi, sauna, Turkish bath and haloterapy, which was so handy for us the day after the race. The underground floor is impressive with the excavated wall, the gym and a comfortable lounge area. But what makes this hotel the sparkling gem is the staff. Everyone was very cordial, ready and happy to help. I couldn't have booked a better hotel, the experience here was amazing! It's safe to say we have our hotel sorted when in Lisbon!

I honestly felt I could move to Lisbon just to live here. There are plenty of great restaurants, shops, and attractions within walking distance, making it a perfect location. During one of my walks, I spotted another Ando Living building under construction, I truly hope they expand to other countries as well. I’d love to stay at more of their properties in the future. This was, without a doubt, the best Airbnb I’ve ever experienced.

We absolutely loved our stay at Corpo Santo! The room was beautifully designed with guest comfort clearly in mind. Each morning, the breakfast was fresh and offered plenty of delicious options. The hotel’s location was perfect for exploring many of Lisbon’s neighborhoods. We also appreciated all the thoughtful extras for guests such as the lobby snack bar, complimentary walking tours, and wine/ gin tastings. Unfortunately, our schedule was too full to take advantage of them, but we would have loved to. The staff were exceptional, attentive, kind, and always willing to help. I even left my sweater behind, and they went above and beyond by bringing it to the airport for me. Truly outstanding service. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience and would highly recommend Corpo Santo to anyone visiting Lisbon!

A great hotel in the heart of Lisbon. Loved the history of the place, especially the basement lounge with the section of city wall. Really interesting. Great staff, friendly and attentive, always ready to assist. Nice rooms, with awesome spa-like showers with light therapy and music. Hotel feels generous - snacks, treats, coffee and drinks available in the lobby area and outside the elevators on each floor. Mini bar in the room is free of charge too. And every day there's a cocktail hour, which brings guests together in the lobby and at the tables outside, which is a nice touch. Breakfast, which is table service in the restaurant, is excellent. Bar knocks out a great cocktail too. The hotel offers two walking tours a day - morning and evening. These are excellent and definitely worth joining. A super hotel in the heart of Lisbon.

I travel often and have stayed in some of the world’s most beautiful properties, but this hotel stands out. If I had to sum it up in one word, it would be comfortable. The staff are genuinely friendly, the property spotless, and the rooms feel like a warm bath, cosy and soothing. I loved the spa-shower, a luxury I didn’t even know I needed. The attention to detail is impressive, with clear instructions for lights and showers, snacks available throughout the day, guided walks, and a generous à la carte breakfast. I truly enjoyed my stay and left wishing I could have stayed longer. Hopefully, I’ll be back one day. Only comment: the lobby doesn’t do the hotel justice. It feels a bit 'grey-mouse' compared to what awaits inside.

Home - Lisbon Hostel is a cozy and inviting place with a vintage atmosphere. It's conveniently located in the heart of Baixa, close to major attractions such as the Lisbon Cathedral and Alfama. This family-run hostel offers a unique experience, including 'Mammas Dinner' featuring Portuguese classics cooked by the owner's mother. Despite its small size, it provides a more personal and intimate stay.
Truly loved my stay at Home Hostel - probably my favourite hostel I've ever stayed in. It is a little more expensive than others in the area, but definitely worth it. I think the price contributes to it attracting a certain kind of person. I've never met so many friendly people at a hostel and everyone in my room was very respectful. Maybe a slightly older average age than other hostels I've stayed in (less 18yos!) which suited me. Highly recommend the tours as well - I did the walking tour, Sintra tour, and dinner and all were fantastic (Sintra tour in particular was very memorable). The staff are super friendly and the rooms were clean and well laid out. Highly recommend if you're looking for a great hostel in Lisbon!

Pros: - the staff were one of the friendliest I’ve seen. They made this place great. - the dorms were spacious compared to most. I wish there were blinds on the top bunk beds though. - the facilities were beautiful. I loved the common areas and Cons: - not super social, people mostly were quiet and kept to themselves. I wish there were more social events.

Nice hostel in a good location, with lots of restaurants/tourist attractions within walking distance. Rooms and beds were nice with curtains on the bottom bunks, lockable containers under the beds and lights/power points by the beds. The common areas were also nice and laundry facilities are available although they malfunctioned when we used them but the staff were kind enough to refund us. The aircon unit in our room was very old and made a very loud ticking noise which meant we couldn’t sleep with it on. There was only one girls bathroom in the mixed dorm area which was annoying. But on the whole this was a good hostel!

I just left, and I already miss HOME. This hostel offers impeccable service from check-in to check-out. The staff is welcoming, professional, and very helpful. The facilities are varied and truly enjoyable — dinner with Mama is the must-do experience you can’t miss during your stay! The Sintra tour with João was fascinating and, above all, enriched with stops that go beyond the typical tourist spots. The bathrooms and rooms are spotless; I really appreciated the attention to cleanliness and the separate spaces (men’s and women’s bathrooms are divided, even if you’re staying in a mixed dorm). In short, I can’t wait to come back HOME.

First solo hostel. Great staff, peaceful atmosphere and the social events are set up nicely. It’s easy to find other solo travellers through the walking tours. You have to do Mamma’s dinner at least once, it’s special. The breakfast is also pretty good. Eggs, bacon, beans, bread and yogurt etc. for €5 you can’t beat it. During my stay it was more of a more mature crowd (late 20s - ?) so it was more chill. I really enjoyed it.
Monique C — Google review
My boyfriend and I spent 3 days at Home and loved it! The people who worked at the reception are so welcoming and helpful. It was so comfortable to relax in one of their common areas and enjoy a beverage. We went on one of the walking tours they offer after breakfast, led by Wendo, and we had a blast. The breakfast food was delicious and hearty...just what we needed to begin a day of walking. If you have a chance to sign up for one of Mama's dinners, you will not be disappointed, make sure to sign up in the morning because it often fills up. They post the menu at the reception desk. It was delicious and the company of our fellow travelers was so enjoyable. They also offer pub crawls and as much as we would have liked to experience it, we were so tired. I highly recommend this hostel

Great hostel! Up there among my best experiences. Many opportunities to meet people. Lots of different common areas to work or chill in. Very spacious 4 bed dorms with large lockers. Tip: if you’re a women staying in a mix dorm, ask for access to the common female showers / bathrooms or else you’ll only have one bathroom available

Home Lisbon Hostel 🇵🇹 ⭐ Rating: 6.5/10 This hostel has a few nice things going for it — the location is excellent, right in the heart of Lisbon, and the staff are genuinely friendly and helpful. The common areas and facilities are also well-equipped and cozy, which makes it a comfortable place to hang out or meet other travelers. However, there are some serious downsides that really impacted my stay. There’s a strong, unpleasant smell in several parts of the hostel, including the bathrooms, where the drain stench can get so bad it makes you want to puke 🤢. The rooms offer little privacy, especially on the top bunk beds with no curtains, so you feel totally exposed. And having only one shower/toilet per floor is far from ideal — expect to wait during peak hours. 💡 Verdict: Great staff and location, but the hygiene issues and lack of privacy definitely need improvement. #LisbonHostel #TravelReview #BackpackerLife #HostelExperience

Hotel da Baixa is a sophisticated property located in Lisbon's charismatic district, offering refined rooms, some with balconies. Situated at the heart of the city on Rua da Prata, this boutique hotel boasts spacious rooms with stunning views of iconic city sights such as Sao Jorge Castle and the Tagus River. The hotel's chic restaurant and bar provide excellent dining options, while its colorful facade makes it easily recognizable.
We had a wonderful stay at Hotel da Baixa. The rooms and bathrooms were modern and spotless, making for a very comfortable experience. The staff was exceptionally professional and friendly, always willing to help. Breakfast was tasty, though the latte and cappuccino could be better. The location is truly perfect, right in the heart of the city. There’s no on-site parking, but valet service is available and they took great care of our luggage. Parking is only about 100 meters away, so it was very convenient. Overall, excellent value for money. Highly recommended!

We absolutely loved our stay here! We began our Portugal trip in Lisbon at Hotel da Baixa and ended our trip here. The team here was so kind and welcoming and the hotel is in a great location for walking, exploring, tourist sites, food, etc. We participated in the complimentary walking tour the hotel offers (amazing) and had a fabulous time walking around with Pedro and other guests and having the opportunity to learn some of Lisbon and Portugal's deep history. This tour was so personal and was a really great chance to get our bearings around the city. Pedro was so kind and also offered us other recommendations from activities to restaurants to shopping. On our last evening here the team kindly welcomed us back and gifted us an upgrade for our last evening in Portugal. Would highly recommend a stay here - you will not be disappointed!

Absolutely amazing!. Can't say enough good things about this hotel. First off, the staff were truly so helpful and friendly. Gave us great recommendations on restaurants. Must try the paella at Pinoquio, one of our favorites!. I wanted my hair done, the gentleman at the front desk walked to the salon to help me communicate...where do you get service like that anymore?!. The rooms were clean and beautifully designed. Location is perfect, walk out the door and its a 5-10 min walk to most anything in the center. Consider upgrading to include the breakfast. It's a full breakfast. This hotel really started and completed our stay in Lisbon perfectly. Highly recommend!.

Fabulous stay at Hotel da Baixa!! The service at this hotel is truly top notch! Every staff member is welcoming and helpful. Great central location. I highly recommend the free walking tour hosted by Pedro. Lastly, a special acknowledgement for the front desk staff and porters. We arrived by car and got a bit confused finding the hotel. We had to call 2x and the front desk could not have been more helpful! They gave us clear directions to the parking area, which is a short walk away. and 2 staff members came with a luggage cart to help us.

Spent two weeks in Spain and Portugal and i must say this hotel was tied for 1st place! Loved this hotel so much! It’s in the most perfect location. All of the details from checking in to the room to the on site bar and restaurant were perfect! The air conditioning worked amazingly in the rooms! The staff was friendly and efficient! Cannot wait to come back! Wish i took more photos of the property.

Our stay was fabulous! The staff was super friendly and helpful, the restaurant was delicious and our room was clean, well appointed and very comfortable. Huge shout out to the best Concierge ever....Pedro! He will see to your every need with a warm smile. Do NOT miss his (complimentary)walking tour through the city. Pedro is very knowledgeable , welcoming & kind. HIs attitude made our tour fun. We learned so much about this wonderful city. The hat & little surprise at the end was a very nice touch. The street directly in front of the hotel is mostly for pedestrians so your ride-share or taxi cannot drive directly to the front door, however, it's a quick walk to the hotel. You can even call the hotel & they'll send someone to help you with your luggage. Highly recommend!

Well-deserving of its reputation, Hotel da Baixa is great quality in a wonderful location. The only minor issues of note could be that it is on a no car street (not really a problem) or that the breakfast area came dangerously close to full some mornings (also not a problem). Since those were the only 'issues,' you can imagine how good the hotel is.

Thank you Hotel de Baixa. I came to Lisbon for a quick solo trip before meeting with my mom down South and the staff at Hotel de Baixa made me feel safe and at home. I arrived early and they were extremely accommodating and welcoming. The rooms were so relaxing - I was battling a cold my second day and the room couldn’t have been a more relaxing space for me to recover. I will definitely be back to Lisbon and back to this wonderful hotel. Be sure to do the walking tour with Pedro!

Nestled in the heart of Lisbon, Hotel Santa Justa Lisboa is a sophisticated retreat that perfectly blends modern luxury with historical charm. This boutique hotel, which opened its doors in 2013, occupies a beautifully refurbished building dating back to the 1700s. With 55 spacious rooms featuring contemporary decor and well-stocked minibars, guests can unwind in style after exploring the vibrant city.
My family and I stayed at Hotel Santa Justa for four nights as part of our vacation to Portugal. This is really an excellent hotel that felt premium and luxurious. The rooms and amenities were well thought out, designed and laid out with good use of space. We did not feel cramped at all in our suite with a family of four as the room felt very spacious and modern. The included free mini bar drinks with cold beer, coke, sparking water and water were especially welcomed after a day in the sweltering August heat and were restocked every day. The hotels also had its own restaurant (the Elevator) which we didn't try but we enjoyed the buffet breakfast and the food options available every morning all of which were fresh (especially the fruits) and delicious. The hotel staff were all very welcoming and friendly and very generous with us, we definitely appreciated their efforts and hardwork at making our stay great. The location was also a highlight, being placed on the north side of Baixa where you have easy and convenient access to one of Lisbon's most historic and vibrant areas, while just being a stones throw from a vast number of historical monuments and only several minutes walk from the Metro, busses and trams. At the same time, as incredible as its location is, it is also a slight bit of downside if you're someone who prefers a bit more peace and quiet. Being in Baixa there is still some night life in the area so there will be a fair bit of noise, sometimes into the later hours well past midnight. Also, the street of the hotel entrance is lined with restaurants who have staff standing by trying to get you to eat there everytime you walk by, which means you have to essentially run a "gauntlet" everytime you enter or leave the hotel. Now, none of these are the fault of the hotel at all as they cannot control these factors but it is important for anyone thinking of staying in Baixa to consider. With that said, Hotel Santa Justa is a lovely place to stay in Lisbon and I would highly recommend it.

Great place to stay in Lisbon. The room was large and well appointed. Clean and bright. Bed was a little hard, but I liked it while my wife wanted it a bit softer. Very friendly and helpful staff. Amazing location one block from the main street. Cars can't drive in front of the hotel after 10am so figure the luggage movement appropriately. That said, the staff will help when asked.

We really enjoyed our 4 night stay. The hotel was fantastic. Our room was large, impeccably clean , updated, and details from little gifts and a complimentary mini bar replenished daily were well thought out and appreciated. The location puts you in the heart of Lisbon’s Baixa district and many of the places we wanted to see were easily walkable. Even though it was on a busy street and our room faced the street, the soundproofing was perfect and we were not disturbed by any outside noise. While I normally do not eat at hotel restaurants for dinner, we ended up eating at their restaurant Elevador 3 times. The food was very good and the service fantastic. Igor was especially helpful and engaging. I highly recommend you stay here. It is a well managed hotel with friendly and helpful staff in the heart of Lisbon.

We stayed in a suite in mid September – it was off peak season and the resort didn’t seem very busy. It is very well located – right in the heart of all the action in the Baxia – literally step outside and see the Elevator Santa Justa and a plethora of restaurants. We were only there for two nights but the room was clean and had everything we needed. Cute kids welcome kits with crayons, toothbrushes, toothpaste, lotion and shower gel. Chocolates and natas for the adults and eye masks and pillow spray for the adults. The reception staff were also so polite and friendly – quick to help us with sending water up to the room when needed, also let us borrow some usb and power adaptor plugs as we forgot ours at our last hotel in the Algarve. Our stay also included breakfast – was quite cheap when we purchased it online through Expedia – not sure what the price is per person if you buy at the hotel --- the buffet was at the Elevador restaurant across the street – and honestly it had everything you would need – eggs, bacon, sausages, fruits, veggies, pastries --- only qualm is that the pancakes and waffles were cold – would have been much better if they were also kept in a heated tray or under a heated lamp. There are much better breakfast restaurants nearby but this was perfect for us for the two days we were there – especially the last day as it was open early (7 am) so we could grab a quick bite before heading to the airport. We got the Junior suite - 40 square meters -- The rooms are small – but its what you would expect for European hotels - but well equipped – fully stocked mini bar with everything included. The bed was super comfortable and the pull out sofa bed was more than adequate for our kids. Overall, great solid 4 star hotel right in the heart of the Baxia.

We found the hotel through Booking and we are thrilled! In addition to its excellent location, the hotel has a wonderful atmosphere and, above all, extremely friendly, polite, and helpful staff. From the reception to the restaurant service, everything is top-notch. I can truly recommend it from the heart. I would especially like to thank Igor Rafael – he is an outstanding employee and such a cheerful, positive person.

Really disappointed by our room, #117 in the building across the street. Small. Only window is onto the back side of building and mechanical equipment. Zero natural light. Rooms didn't have shampoo and conditioner filled, we had to request it. Cooling system kept reverting to 77 degrees. Nice check in. Service of employees was positive. Location is great other than having to decline the invitations of 10 tourist restaurants on the street. Overall disappointing given the positive reviews.

The Internacional Design Hotel is a stylish boutique hotel located in Lisbon's historic center, overlooking the iconic Rossio Square. The hotel features uniquely themed floors - Urban, Zen, Tribe, and Pop - each with chic and compact rooms and suites. The design themes were established during a major renovation in 2009, reflecting modern styles while preserving the building's Belle Epoque facade from its construction in 1909.
The absolute best two things about this hotel are its location (perfect!) and its staff (friendly and very helpful!). We stayed in this hotel for a week, and I realized why it is recommended by so many blogs and travel books. It is clean and very comfortable with large rooms. It is right on a major square with the main street for restaurants, bars, and attractions literally right outside the door. All of the subway, bus, and tram lines are literally within one block. We were able to walk to all of the major city attractions easily from here, and our only need for a train was our trip to Belem. The staff here are amazingly helpful and knowledgeable about the area, and they will do almost anything to be accommodating. We had a very nice room with a view of the square and windows that we could open to access a very small balcony. It was a perfect spot for relaxing and people watching. The buffet breakfast was really nice every morning with made to order eggs and omelettes and plenty of options for all diet preferences, as well as great coffee/cappuccino machines, and even champagne for mimosas! Also, for its location and amenities, I would consider this hotel to be a great value. We would definitely stay here again and we will recommend it to others!

Got one of the smaller and cheaper rooms, as I just had a one-night layover in Lisbon. The hotel is somewhat hard to find, and you will easily miss the anonymous entrance. Once you do, however, it serves as a good starting point to explore the city centre. Walking distance to the metro and several bus stops should you wish to explore further afield. However, the area in the immediate vicinity of the hotel is quite touristy, so prepare to be pestered by marijuana sellers and other harmless riffraff. The room was small, but nice, and had all the amenities one would expect. Great plus with the coffee maker in the room, did not expect that for this price. The hotel is located between some quite busy streets, and I was concerned there would be noise from the outside during the night. However, I didn't notice anything. Very courteous and helpful staff. Breakfast is served in an adjoining restaurant. Small, buffet style that had something for everyone. All in all, a great stay and I'd stay again next time in Lisbon. PS: the hotel has actual, working A/C which is worth the stay in itself.

Awesome location! Had a great stay at the hotel - July 9-14. Very central location and good staff. Restaurant - was great for breakfast. Did not try any other meals/food, due to the prevalence of variety of restaurants and food types in the neighbourhood. Unfortunately did not use the VIP 25% discount or the complimentary wine at the restaurant. Water was available, but peculiarity was the counting of inventory and strictness of their "bottles". Could not get a hang of that.

Stayed here in July 2025 with a friend. Air conditioner was working perfectly, room was neat and clean, decent size for Europe. Our room faced the square, I’m a light sleeper and had no issues with noise. Front desk staff was accommodating and was nice they offer to refill your water bottle daily. Location is great walking distance to all major sites. Great value hotel, I would stay here again

Fantastic front desk staff. A big thank you to the staff for taking good care of us when we needed anything. I do want to mention that I had golf clubs sent to the hotel from home and they were supposed to get there a day or two before we arrived, but they got there days before and the staff put them in a safe storage and said it was no problem at all. They even told me to keep them there as long as I needed once we arrived. A very good first impression. Rooms had enough space for the two of us. Clean, up to date, modern bathrooms. Good shower. There's not really a lobby to hang out in, but there is a big room upstairs with a couple couches and TV's if you need a place for a large group to unwind together. One negative: our window pointed right down an alley and with our window open, which was a must, it was really, really loud. Sounded like a jet sitting on the tarmac ready to take off because of all the AC's and other utilities on full speed. It was really annoying so ask for a room away from the back alley. The restaurant attached to this hotel was good. Some dishes better than others. It wasn't great, but it was obviously convenient and we ate lunch or dinner there two or three times and breakfast every morning. No complaints. (I included the restaurant in the review for info only; it is not included in the rating of this restaurant). The location of the hotel couldn't have been better and if we visit Lisbon again, we will definitely stay here.

A 3-star hotel in my mind. For the price I wouldn't recommend it though. There is a strong smell of sewer in the whole room. The toilet seat was loose. No space in the bathroom to put your stuff and the button to turn off the TV was broken. The TV was on when we first entered the room so I guess noone had bothered to try and fix it. Unfortunately there was mold in the bathroom and a frosted glass door so there is no privacy.

9 Hotel Mercy is a chic boutique hotel located in the heart of Baixa, Lisbon's prime neighborhood for first-time visitors. The hotel offers easy access to popular tourist attractions and is within walking distance of bars, clubs, restaurants, and shops. With its sleek design and luxurious rooms featuring dim lighting and black and gold details, this four-star accommodation provides a sophisticated stay. Guests can enjoy expertly crafted cocktails at the stylish rooftop bar while taking in panoramic views of Lisbon's vibrant landscape.
Stayed here Sept 12-15th. It’s perfect. Staff, Rita and Susana, were lovely, and very helpful (directions, suggestions, and help with first aid kit!)… the room is a great size, the bathroom was ample, everything was spotless clean (I’m very picky). The location is perfect, not in a loud/party area, but easily walkable to train station & metro (mind you, it’s Lisbon, so expect hills + stairs). So many beautiful squares and restaurants nearby. I HIGHLY recommend this hotel!!

This hotel is not at all what you would expect from '4 star'. And it's definitely not worthy of this price point. The positive is that it's in a nice location in the heart of Lisbon. But any further positives stop there. The rooms are in serious need of a deep cleaning and renovation. All of the furniture is extremely cheap and dinged up. There are scuffs on the walls and surfaces pretty much anywhere the eye can see. You can tell that the past damages were 'repaired' in very haphazard ways: you can see the spackle where holes in the wall were filled in, the signboards are fastened on single nail and fall off, the faucet knobs are not the correct size and smack against the mirror. And it doesn't stop there. Sitting on the couch is about as comfortable as sitting on the tiled sidewalks outside. The rooms feel stark and uninviting. The bathroom feels like it was plucked from the lobby of a mid restaurant. In isolation, these things may not seem much and that this review is nitpicky. But when you discover an issue with literally anything you can imagine, all of the details add up and make you feel like these people do not care at all about the property. And that's a shame, because I had a great experience in a 9Hotel in another city. Do not expect a '4 star' experience. Instead, imagine yourself spending your vacation (or holiday, depending on your geographical POV) in a lived-in Airbnb because that's what you're going to get. Is it worth spending as much as you'll spend here for that experience?

Just wrapped up a stay at 9Mercy Hotel in Lisbon — truly a gem for its prime location and great restaurants nearby. The rooftop bar is a standout with awesome views and vibes. Rooms are small but stylish with modern decor, though a bit dark (something to keep in mind). A few misses for a 4-star: no body lotion or in-room iron, which felt like basic oversights. That said, the staff was friendly and accommodating, and I was grateful for the plug converter they provided. Would absolutely stay again — the location is hard to beat!

We had a wonderful stay from Oct 11 - 18 at 9Hotel Mercy in Lisbon! Our room was clean, comfortable, and enjoyed the balcony overlooking the street. The bed was comfortable, and everything felt fresh and well-maintained. Breakfast each morning was delicious, and the service was excellent — our server was attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. A special thank you to Agusto at the front desk, who was always friendly, welcoming, and extremely helpful throughout our stay. We also loved spending evenings at the rooftop bar — the views were beautiful, and Tiago and Juan made the experience even better with their great drinks and warm hospitality. Overall, a fantastic experience from start to finish. Highly recommend 9Hotel Mercy for anyone visiting Lisbon!

In general I would highly recommend 9Hotel Mercy. The staff was very friendly and accommodating and the rooms are superb — very sophisticated modern. It’s definitely a more modern take and vibe on everything so if that’s not your thing you might dislike some of the aesthetic aspects — for instance, as another reviewer noted, the lighting in the room is dim. However personally, I think the lighting was superb. I always hate harsh overhead lighting so the multiple types of lighting allow you to tune the mood and ambience of the room. I loved the black decore and style was continuous — the rooms, bathrooms, and even hallways. In general, this would have easily been a 5 star stay if it weren’t for a few rather significant issues or oversights: 1) When we arrived at approximately 10pm and got to our room we found it hadn’t been cleaned — the bed wasn’t made, there was an partially drank water bottle by the bedside table, some trash in bags, and dirty towels on the floor. Again, the staff was very apologetic and did their best to help given the limited options. There was not a similar room available, so we were given a different room for the night and then they moved our luggage the next afternoon while we were out. While this was slightly inconvenient as it meant we couldn’t unpack fully, I was fine with this and very understanding. However I wasn’t offered any other form of compensation for the inconvenience. While I was kind of expecting to get that night comped I probably would have been ok with a bar tab and free breakfast. 2) getting back into the hotel late at night was a bit of a challenge which I’ve never experienced. While I appreciate the security of locking the front door, there is no key card reader or even buzzer / bell available to buzz the front desk. Each night we returned between 2 and 4am the person on duty at night was in the back room and not at the front desk so we sort of have to knock and wait and hope they eventually saw us on the cameras? They did each time and we weren’t stuck outside too long, maybe just 2-3 minutes. But it’s still a strange oversight. 3) The roof bar was closed well before 11pm for 2/3 of the nights we tried to go. One day there was no sign or anything just found the door closed. The other day there was a sign about inclement weather — although it was a beautify warm night out so I’m not sure what weather could have possibly closed the roof. Finally, as a small note, the water in our bathroom got incredibly too hot in my opinion. I love a very hot steamy shower or a sauna so I’m not opposed to the heat. But the water was so hot that it was actually hard to get it to a reasonable temperature because you could only use the last small part of the range of the faucet and not absolutely scald yourself with hot water. Overall though, again, I cannot complain too much and I did greatly enjoy our stay. I just wish the situation with the room had been handled a bit differently.

The stay was nice but had a lot missing. To start, upon arrival, we asked for robes and slippers, and they mentioned they were not included in our room price, but the reception attendant included slippers as long as we returned them upon checkout (not sure what they were going to do with them after?) Our elevators were not working for the first day of our stay, but it wasn’t as big of an inconvenience for us as we were on the first floor. I can’t speak for others on higher floors. As noted another reviews, the rooms are in need of renovation. There were quite a few things in the room that were very dirty & old. The flooring near the bathroom was coming up, the bathroom door slides along a rail that was coming up in our room and would make a noise every time we closed and opened or walked across it. Just very dingy and in need of repair. For a 4-star hotel I was just expecting more, but we didn’t see it.

I have booked a superior room online. This type of room states it has a balcony and a tub. The room provided was a classic room with only a shower a window. I have discussed this with the manager and he was trying to convince me that I'm in a superior room. I see not tub or shower in my room. Caution when booking at this hotel as paying extra gives you nothing. On checking out they even attempted to charge me for an extra breakfast, review your bill closely.

The location of 9Hotel Mercy is great, right in the buzz of it. While breakfast was okay (but nothing worth writing home about), the decor of the rooms was austere and outdated. It felt very 90s compared to the rather flattering photography. And one day we asked the staff to clean our room while we were out but came home to the bedding not having been made/changed. We waited some time at the bar after letting them know but they still hadn't done and in the end we had to do it ourselves. On check out, we heard another couple had the same problem, and the staff were not very apologetic about it. It's overpriced for what it is, just based on the location I presume.

Brown's Downtown Hotel offers chic rooms and suites, some with castle views, along with a trendy lobby lounge and complimentary breakfast. The hotel provides iMac computers in each room and free Wi-Fi, making it a convenient choice for travelers. Situated in downtown Lisbon, the hotel is close to Rossio Square and the train station, as well as within walking distance of the Time Out market. Guests praise the helpful and friendly staff who offer great advice on local dining options and attractions.
One of the nicest hotels I have ever visited. Located in the middle of the oldtown of Lisbon. Beutiful rooms which obviously each has its own design. My room was rather small but had everything one needs for a 3 day visit. Nice breakfast room with a huge variety of foods to choose from for breakfast. The lounge and bar area is very unique and comfortable. A big amount of Illustrator books invites you to stay longer. The staff altogether is very friendly and always willing to help. I can strongly recommend this hotel. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

I traveled here as a solo black female and felt very safe. The location is fantastic and you are a stones throw away from everything. I was able to walk the city from here. My rule is, if it’s within 30 min walk, I’ll walk it. But if you have mobility constraints, there are lots of public transportation options within a short distance. But the cobblestones may make walking difficult/using a wheelchair but thankfully Ubers are not that expensive. I stayed on the 3rd floor. The room was good for a solo traveler. I think it would have been hard for 2 people. The bathroom sink are was very small and you can barely put toiletries there, but there is space above the toilette that was sufficient. I loved the big fridge, the hot water kettle, and coffee maker. The room was basic but was perfect for what I needed. I was barely in the room and needed a place to sleep and change. If you are a walker and barely in the room, this place is perfect. If you are looking to lounge in the room, then this may not be the best place for you.

The location is great, super convenient to many restaurants and shops. It was also accessible on many train/bus lines so we never had to call and Uber or taxi to venture out further. The room was small but very nice, the A/C made it nice and cool and the included coffee and water in the room was very nice. Because it was so central, we stopped back several afternoons to grab an espresso and refill our water in the lobby. Overall a great value and we would definitely stay here again!

Since there’s nothing bad, there’s nothing to say at all 😅 Super clean, nice size when it comes to the room, decoration on point. Little problem: The bathroom was kinda ‚wet‘ after I used the shower, cause it wasn’t closing properly, but that’s one issue I don’t care about. Besides that: everything was spotless, super clean room, one of the cleanest I’ve ever been in. Mattress was on the harder side, which I like a lot, supports the back pretty good! Also: the mattress was one unit and not two separated ones with a gap in the middle.

This is a very charming hotel in a great location. The hotel staff made it the perfect ending to our European vacation. The staff went out of their way to help us celebrate our 39th wedding anniversary. Thank you so much for the wonderful welcome surprise. They all took time to give us directions and answer all our questions. The hotel room was exactly like advertised with everything we needed and more. Your hospitality was greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!!

We loved this hotel, staff helpful and friendly, decor classy and fresh, location perfect. We took a short walk to the sister hotel in the morning for breakfast, which was very good. Loved the bar, service and cocktails just perfect after a long day sightseeing. If you prefer a boutique hotel with character and style these hotels are the place for you. We would love to visit Lisbon again & will definitely stay here.

Beautifully designed, the welcome cocktail was delicious. Rooms were very modern and great AC, they even have a ceiling fan for additional air flow. And location was A++. Two blocks from subway and three blocks from trams and buses. My room faced a "courtyard" that was basically an air shaft, so if you want sunlight or views, make sure to confirm that with hotel. I personally found the room too dark. On the plus side, it made me stay out and see more of Lisbon! My biggest complaint is the bathroom. Counter space lacking and shower felt claustrophobic, which was a new sensation for short and skinny me. The worst was probably the shower head. It's the handheld type, REMEMBER to check position before turning water on. I didn't, and it sprayed water all over the bathroom and corridor. I couldn't figure out how to position the showerhead so the water doesn't either spray against a wall or all over the floor. At least there was hot water...?
Lili W — Google review
Overall it was OK. The hotel is perfectly located. The room was medium size, with a very strange design. Shower cabin is small and leaking. In our room, the window was opening to a small well they call backyard. There was smell so we left the window closed all time and used AC to have some air.

Santiago de Alfama - Boutique Hotel is a charming 15th-century hotel located in the oldest part of Lisbon, offering stunning views of the city's red roofs. The hotel features 19 uniquely designed rooms that showcase the best of Portugal, from modern art to Claus Porto soaps. Guests can enjoy Portuguese pastries and local delicacies at the atmospheric cafe on the cobbled street. The Beauty Bar in the basement offers a range of wellness treatments and beautification sessions, complemented by cocktails.
Santiago de Alfama is a gem in Lisbon! The location is great, and our stay was made truly special by the incredible staff and amenities. Rita, the concierge, deserves a shout-out. She was incredibly helpful, taking the time to explain the area and offering fantastic tips that enhanced our exploration of the city. She also helped us book a few day trips, and transfer to our next hotel. The breakfasts at the hotel's restaurant were superb, offering a delicious start to our day. We also thoroughly enjoyed the expertly made drinks in the evenings. Thank you Santiago de Alfama team for a truly memorable visit to Lisbon!

We had a wonderful stay at Santiago de Alfama Boutique Hotel from September 25th to 27th, 2025. The hotel is beautifully designed, with a warm and elegant atmosphere that made us feel at home right away. Our room was spotless, very comfortable, and perfectly equipped, with lots of thoughtful details. The location in Alfama is ideal, close to many charming streets, viewpoints, and authentic restaurants, yet peaceful enough to relax after a day exploring Lisbon. A special mention goes to the staff, who were exceptionally welcoming, attentive, and genuinely caring. They made sure everything about our stay was smooth and memorable. Breakfast was delicious, with fresh and high-quality options that we really enjoyed each morning. The cocktails are so far the most balanced and high-end of the city. Overall, Santiago de Alfama exceeded our expectations, and we would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique, intimate, and truly charming stay in Lisbon. We look forward to coming back on our next visit!

Amazing service. The concierge went over a map of Lisbon and suggestions when we got there and our room was ready very early for us. It’s so nice having the beautiful bar and cafe on the first floor of the hotel. Delicious breakfast is included. Room was spacious and nice and housekeeping was great. Nice shower. Good location!

We were coming to Lisbon from Paris for one night before getting on a cruise. After staying here, I'm sad that we were not here for more nights. From check-in, the tour of the hotel and the restaurant by the staff, to our wonderful room with a gorgeous view and the delicious meals we had in the restaurant, this surpassed my every expectation. The history of the hotel is so interesting. I hope we can return here soon! I also wanted to add that I left my jacket in the lobby and did not discover it until we were already at the cruise port. I called the hotel and the staff member got on his personal scooter and brought it to me at the cruise port. Unsurpassed customer service!

There are better options. I regretted this stay for several reasons. It is a FAR and DISTANT cry from a 4 or 5 star hotel experience. On a Tuesday night, the bar music (old and boring at that) blasted at full volume into our room late into the night, along with a loud voice (maybe the emcee?). They ruined a birthday arrangement I had planned with poor communication. The shower would fluctuate from burning to freezing temperatures. The mini bar had 100ml "pours" of wine instead of typical half bottles (a regular wine pour is 125-150). The list goes on and on. I would recommend this hotel to my worst enemy.

My husband and I decided to take a trip to Portugal for our 10-year anniversary, and we couldn’t be happier that we chose to spend most of our time at Santiago de Alfama. Every single aspect of this place feels full of heart and soul — from our warm welcome by Rita, Lana, and the rest of the team, to the incredible food and drinks at Audrey’s with Henrique and the amazing staff there. A special mention to the gentleman from Nepal, whose service was truly top-notch and made us feel so well cared for. The rooms were so comfortable that we instantly felt at home. The history of the building is fascinating, and the kindness from everyone we met made our stay unforgettable. Every interaction felt genuine, like they truly wanted us to feel as comfortable as possible. The location is unbeatable — just a short walk to Porta do Sol and other beautiful sights in Alfama. From start to finish, it was an amazing experience. We were sad to leave, but we can’t wait to recommend Santiago de Alfama to all of our friends who visit Lisbon.

Excellent location. I booked this for one night. Private room, shared bathroom. I’ll take a private room any day of the week. Bathroom cleanliness will depend on who you’re staying with. Relatively good for the price. If you don’t want to bunk-bed, don’t hesitate to book it.

Never stay at this hotel! The fact that the tram doesn't let you sleep, stains on the bed linen, cardboard walls, is somehow tolerable for tourists. But suddenly it turned out that the staff steals money from the guests! And even if they were lying somewhere on the table or windowsill, they didn't. They climbed into the suitcase, pulled out the wallet, took money from it, and even joked, left little. So, if for some reason you still stay here, never leave money and valuables in the room, because the staff steals!
Andrew G — Google review
Amazing location and decent level of comfort for the price. The reception area is very nice and the staff is helpful. The walls are thin, showers are small, and the tram makes a lot of noise. But honestly for the price and location, this still felt like a good deal.

Budget stay in an amazing location close to everything you want to walk to in Lisbon. The rooms have street noise and a very close trolley. The bed itself was a little wobbly. Not a lot of plugs in the room due to the age of the building. There is a shared kitchen and shared bathrooms. The location itself due to the complexity of the streets was difficult for taxi to get close to the front door so be prepared to carry your luggage over steps for about a block depending on traffic. The staff were kind and polite welcoming me after a late arrival. I felt safe yet close to all of the excitement of visiting Lisbon.

Thieves! My parents, both pensioners, recently stayed at this hotel, and their experience was nothing short of distressing. During their stay, someone from the staff entered their private room and stole money from a hidden backpack. The fact that the money was carefully concealed makes it clear that this was a deliberate act. When we reported the incident, the hotel management showed no willingness to investigate or assist. Their complete lack of responsibility and empathy was shocking. We have reported this theft to the police and filed an official statement. It is unacceptable for such an incident to happen in a place that claims to ensure the safety of its guests. This level of negligence and unprofessionalism is unacceptable. I strongly urge others to reconsider staying at this hotel if you care about safety and respect as a guest.

If you want to sleep DONT stay here. We’ve travelled the world and stayed next to nightclubs and the first time in my life I could not sleep for 3 nights in a row. The walls were thin, the outside noise already a bother. But nothing we didn’t expect, the problem is the other guests that were selfishly loud and the property implements nothing to keep the noise down. We have suggested they put up a sign for quiet time, but if you have rude neighbours who like to drink and scream all night, good luck. The best part is- they were so drunk they mistook their room and attempted to get into ours at midnight. What a scary experience. The property itself is fine, the biggest issue being the air conditioning not working in the rooms. But the receptionists are lovely. It feels wrong providing a negative review as the property itself was fine, but they also implement no measures to encourage guests to be respectful.
G W — Google review
Great location steps from the Lisbon Cathedral. The most important thing in a room is cleanliness and sorely lacking here. Room was not serviced at all after the first night (bed not made, room not cleaned). This was brought to the management's attention, who apologized, provided clean towels, and guaranteed it would be cleaned the next day. The next day the bed was made, but again, zero cleaning (bathroom, counters, floors etc). Spoke with management again (different person) and more apologies. Needless to say would simply not recommend or ever return.
Bruce G — Google review
I booked a room for one night with my girlfriend as we had a flight the next day. We paid $160 for a room that was dirty with marks on the walls and floors, a gross connected bathroom with a weird algae (?) in the shower and hairs on the floor. The walls are paper thin so you’ll hear everything which really sucks if you’re trying to sleep early for a morning flight. Their rooms do not look anything as advertised online. Their one saving grace is that they located in an excellent spot close to many attractions however so are many other locations. I would avoid this place and had I not prepaid I would have cancelled and found a hotel for the night and paid the premium.

A Casa das Janelas Com Vista is a charming hotel located in the hilly medieval district of Lisbon, beneath the walls of Sao Jorge Castle. The former basket shop has been transformed into a stylish accommodation where natural light floods through French windows into high-ceilinged rooms furnished with vintage details and modern simplicity.
As a professional in the travel industry & used to luxury stays, I have really high standards when it comes to hotels! As a designer, I fell in love with the interior decor! My experience was absolutely fantastic from start to finish! The staff facilitated my 11pm arrival with an online check in&clear instructions and had prepped my room in a way that felt really welcoming! As this was a very last minute booking, only the entry level category was available, the room&bathroom were beautiful, but I feel for two people you may wish to opt for a larger room! For one, it was perfect and I liked having a juliet balcony! Bed was comfy, decor was tasteful and not overloaded! The bathroom was small but the walk in shower was a good size itself! The only note I have is that the hot water tap made a bit of a loud whistling noise when it was on (possibly due to the building being old, but Ill take the trade off for the lovely character, tall ceilings and period features) but the water pressure&temp were excellent! The staff in the am were very polite and breakfast is served in a friendly relaxed manner that makes guests feel like they are guests at a friends house. They also stored my luggage in an individual locker (with only my stuff in it) whilst I enjoyed my last day in the city! Ive only given the room 4 stars for the size/shower-bit of corridor noise, but Id like to state that overall this was a great stay considering the price point as well (which is very fair), its fair to say that my stay was comparative to a 4/5* hotel with the price of a 2*. Don’ t change a thing! Looking forward to future stays!

Lovely room and fantastic service. The room is spacious and has a large bathroom with an incredibly comfortable bed. Easy to find off a quiet street very close to the main busy streets, 10min walk to the centre. The lobby is very well designed with a lovely breakfast and a self service bar. The staff helped with a very last minute surprise for a proposal with free champagne and flowers in the room, so friendly and accommodating, really went above and beyond to make it a special experience for us. I will definitely return here and definitely recommend.

My wife writes: The staff of this establishment greeted us throughout the day and evening with generous hospitality, attentiveness, and care. The morning breakfast was beautifully presented and full to the brim with healthy and vibrant options. The environment of the community room is cozy and also conducive to peaceful rest and rejuvenation between outings. Being able to make tea throughout the day was another great boost. Casa Janelas Com Vista is wonderfully situated in a great district. There was considerable noise from people in the street at night, but thanks to solid windows and earplugs, we managed to get decent sleep and rest.

We had a lovely 5-night stay at Casa das Janelas. Our room on the 3rd floor was comfortable, quiet and had all the amenities needed. There is no elevator but that was OK with us. We loved the lounge, breakfast, reception area - tastefully furnished and a great place to relax after a busy day exploring Lisbon. We appreciated the complimentary teas, coffee, water and snacks as well as the honest bar selections of wines and port. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful and available in the lounge area until late at night. Casa das Janelas is located on a quiet street in the Barrio Alto about a 10-15 minute walk from the Baixa-Chiado metro station. It was nice to be away from the busy areas of town but still within walkable distance from shops and restaurants.

We had a wonderful stay here. Rooms are very clean and smell divine thanks to local diffusers. We had a stunning view over the city. Breakfast was perfect, a huge selection of fruit, salad, nuts, yoghurt, pastries, home made cake, cheese and ham, with eggs cooked to order if desired. Breakfast is in a communal space which is open 24/7, with quirky decoration. Home made lemonade, coffee and cake are always available. Staff made us feel very welcome and at home. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

We had a lovely time at Casa das Janelas Com Vista. It’s a very charming guesthouse with a warm, homely feel — more like a boutique B&B than a traditional hotel. The staff were welcoming, the interiors beautifully decorated, and the atmosphere was relaxed and inviting. It’s a perfect spot for exploring Lisbon while still feeling like a peaceful retreat. The only small downside is that it would be helpful to have a fridge in the room, especially during the hotter months. It would make it easier to keep drinks or snacks cool. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would happily return!

This is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. In a superior room facing the city and the river you have a splendid view of Lisboa both from the room and the bathroom. I liked the interior design, the service, the high quality of sheets and towels but most of all I liked the breakfast and the way it is presented. Many places say that they aim to be a home away from home, but Casa Janela is one of the few places that actually succeed in creating that feeling. I will recommend this to everybody who likes small scale hotels with a twist and who is willing to a little extra for high quality.

Lookout Lisbon! Hostel is a cozy and well-located youth hostel in one of the best areas for nightlife in Lisbon. The hostel offers simple dorms with free Wi-Fi, a shared kitchen, and lounge. Guests can enjoy comfortable beds and a delicious breakfast while being close to lively bars, pubs, restaurants, and clubs. The friendly staff aims to make every stay enjoyable and smooth. Visitors appreciate the welcoming atmosphere where they can meet other travelers and feel like they are visiting friends.
We really, really enjoyed our stay. The staff is super super kind and approachable and the people coming there are really nice and open. It feels like visiting a friend of a friend’s place. The beds are cozy, there are chargers, you can store your luggage very easily (and also at a place after check-out) and the kitchen is nice. Only disadvantage was the not stable shower temperature, but that was totally worth the stay. Would really recommend the hostel to everyone. Thanks everyone so much! Cheers!

friendly staff, clean and a cool place for meeting new people. When you step outside youre right at a great viewpoint of the city and really close to a bunch of bars and restaurants! Bunk beds have three levels (!) so it can get quite hot, especially for stays in hot summer periods. Adding ventilators to the rooms would be nice!

This was my favorite hostel that I stayed in. The staff is extremely friendly and I had great conversations with all the guests. There is a very convivial atmosphere. I stayed there with my two kids and they were accepted. The location is fantastic. Beautiful overlook across the street and right in the center of town with musuems, shops, cafes, the river... The rooms and bathrooms are basic and simple but clean. They have a nice shared space and kitchen.

BEST HOSTEL IN LISBON The hostel itself feels like home. I felt so comfortable here, it’s amazing. Never experienced this anywhere else There’s free coffee and tea for you to take whenever you feel like it. The beds are incredibly comfortable, hard mattresses which are amazing for your back. Never woke up with pain on my back so that’s a big plus! The bathrooms are well equipped and super clean. After a day walking around the city, coming back to the hostel , it’s heaven. There’s a tiny balcony on the lounge which is my favorite place in the whole hostel. It really gives you the vibe of what Lisbon is all about. You can cook here, the kitchen is also clean and well equipped. The staff is amazingly friendly and helpful!!!!

Let me give you an honest review, as I see many seem to avoid mentioning some important things which make me think either most people don't bother with reviews, most were before Covid, or some are just scam reviews. The good: - most of the staff are friendly & helpful - they clean well, on a daily basis - the location is good, albeit noisy at night, but that is to be expected - It has all the basics you would expect The bad: - 3-story beds... - hostel is small, the room I was in was very narrow as was the corridor, and it's very easy to hear noise past the walls and doors. Not much space to access the heavy-to-move floor-sliding lockers under the beds or do anything really due to the small space - the bathrooms are really spartan... There is no place to even put down belongings... Hot water seems to stop unexpectedly while showering and there are barely any rugs to avoid slipping. The wood in the only private bathroom is really rotting away which makes me believe they are saving money on appears to be an old hostel. - The hostel provides laundry service, but I fail to see why if it's not done professionally... The first time I used the service, the clothes did not smell clean at all. In both times I used the service, my clothes were returned partly wet... Why? I thought the first time was just an inexperienced employee, but the 2nd was clearly a different one. - common room (salon) is unengaging. You would expect common areas to be a place to meet people - but not so here. There is a general atmosphere most times like people want to be left alone, rather than interact with others. The "social events" are really quite poor, other than, perhaps, the sangria night where I noticed people truly interacting. From having spoken to people who have been at other hostels, this seems to be a common impression, and different from most other hostels. - I was disrespected and made to feel very unwelcome by one of the receptionists, who would avoid any and all eye contact at times while passing by me and even remarking "oh you're still here?" as though it was a joke... After complaining about it, the only thing she was truly worried about was if I would report this to her boss, and after being laughed at at my face and spoken to in a cold, condescending, avoidant manner, when angrily returning the key and checking out I was told I am being disrespectful and that if I don't leave she will call the police (seriously?)... Does that seem like normal attitude? Is this a Portuguese thing, to act so passive aggressive? Mind you, this was the same receptionist who personally told me that Portuguese are not nice people. I was never, ever, in my life treated this way before, and have always been respectful to staff, never intentionally disrespectful unless disrespected first. I guess you get what you pay for. This hostel is cheap.

This hostel was amazing! We arrived on Sangria night and immediately got welcomed by into the main room full of guests sitting, chatting and drinking free Sangria. All the staff were welcoming, especially Eddie. We did the Tapas night and it is credit to how good this hostel is that the table was overflowing with guests eating and drinking and chatting with each other. The place was always kept clean, everyone was respectful of each other and we were really well looked after. Don't stay anywhere else in Lisbon, seriously.

Very cozy hostel! It's September, still slow because of Covid. I encountered a very relaxed family vibe, a very charming building and a great view overlooking the viewpoint. There is a nice kitchen, a place to hang your clothes if you wash, and very friendly staff! The showers have no separation between the sinks, so there's a chance you might come out of the shower naked while people are there washing hands or brushing teeth, but it isn't a problem in my opinion.
José M — Google review
I really liked this hostel. Straight away you will be made to feel welcome, and there is a real social atmosphere about the place. I guess the free Sangria helped too (Yep that's right - free Sangria. What's not to like?) The rooms are well thought out, with plenty of luggage storage and sockets near every bed. The curtains on the beds themselves are a good idea, and give a little more darkness when you need to get some sleep. Breakfast was good, plenty of choice for both meat eaters and veggies. The hostel is in a handy position, nice views of the city and ideally located to explore Bairro Alto and its many bars. Thanks Eddie and the rest of the team for a great stay!
