Portuguese restaurant
Restaurant
Bacalhau, a Portuguese salt cod dish, is a national favorite and can be found in various forms across Lisbon. The fish is slowly cooked in olive oil to maintain its succulence and flavor. With over 80 different varieties of cod available off the coast, it can be prepared in numerous ways such as Bacalhau a Bras, Bacalhau a Gomes de Sa, Bacalhau com Natas, and pataniscas.
Nice service, positive faces. We went 2 times during our Lisbon trip. Delicious food, good wine and reasonable prices. Thanks and hello to my beautiful lady waitress (sorry I forgot her name)

Very friendly local environment, good food, reasonably priced, came here 3 times in 5 days just to try out all their famous dishes... highly recommended! My Recommendation: Bacalhau in cream sauce Portueguese steak Grilled octopus Grilled Bacalhau - it's a shame that they overcooked the cod 😭 4 star for food for this reason...
Ng V — Google review
Visit if you want Portuguese food :) I ordered [Alentejana Soup], which was very unique interesting soup with soaked bread and egg. [Piri-piri Chicken] tasted as expected and [Lagareiro Grilled Codfish] was my first grilled fish in Lisbon, which was a great success! All paired well with green wine :) super recommend
Hanna B — Google review
The food was good Good to try local food It’s usually a problem when the recipes are local for tourist to be sure what they order (menu with photos could help) since part of the personnel didn’t speak English We sat outside so the service was slower but ok
DIMITRA K — Google review
We found this Restaurant via Google and the food was really delicious 😍🤩also the Service was outstanding friendly and we also had a really nice bottle of vino verde 🥂the price is very fair! - all in all a 10/10 recommendation!
Nina Z — Google review
Food was authentic and really good! Also the service was really special and the girl super nice to us!!! Definitely recommended!!
Rosa O — Google review
The food quality was awful. Very disappointed since the ratings seem so high for the restaurant? The servers were lovely, but we did not even get napkins. The steak (the Portuguese way) looked that of cafeteria food, plus undercooked. The octopus was overcooked and salted. I immediately felt my stomach churn despite giving it a shot, as not all good food looks presentable. This missed the mark. If you see the restaurant is empty, there is a good reason for it (we were the only ones there). Tourist trap

Portuguese restaurant
Casa Portuguesa do Pastel de Bacalhau, also known as the 'House of Cod,' is a renowned seafood restaurant that pays homage to the beloved cod, often referred to as the 'faithful friend' in Portuguese cuisine. The menu features a variety of inventive dishes showcasing this versatile fish, such as cod cataplana with cream and shrimps and the creative cod 'Holy Friday,' which combines Italian pasta with pepperoni and a fresh salad.
Mouth-watering Pastel (both the cheesy one and the one without cheese). To go with that- the wine is absolutely amazing (we tried the white one) on top of that- nice and cozily decorated this century old joint with its gorgeous chandelier will offer you an amazing ambience to seat in.
Debdeep G — Google review
It is said to be the best place to get the Pastel de Bacalhau BUT be very careful when you order the "combo". The Pastel might be affordable but the Port with "free glass" is expensive. We paid 30.50 with 2 pastel and a glass of port. Might not be really worth the combo. Though, maybe a must try for the pastel.
Kareen M — Google review
a fish cake... What The fish cake without the melted cheese. I guess this is a super touristy place.. It was a must have so I had to have it. But when I pair this with the cost of this.. i am not sure what is so great of it. I guess I have falling into this tourist trap purchase. Overall it was okay, nothing super special. It wasn't as fishy as I somehow thought it would be. Environment Located on the main street, it is not hard to miss. There is no seating inside but there is seating outside. They serve this either for a for here or to go. Niceness of the staff Didn't have much of an interaction with the staff. I mean there was really only 1 or 2 products they are selling. So it was like a order and get. Dollar IT WAS EXPENSIVE. 6EU for one! I didn't think it was worth it for the price, but it was a good experience. Yes/No Probably not...
Wendy C — Google review
Is this franchise stunning? Yes, absolutely . I’ve visited a couple during our trip but didn’t get the chance to try it out. The cod cake is good, overpriced but good. The tiny sheep with cheese (Cheesy Sheep) that I was craving is just not worth it. It’s a tourist trap. I am not mad, it’s a beautiful place but it is an experience that can be skipped.
Alexandra S — Google review
The pastels are good but a bit pricey for what they are. 6€ for one. The service and welcome could be improved. Quite aggressive, pushing you to order more, impatient. May be worth it if you want the souvenir with the dated glass.
Mich _ — Google review
Definitely touristy. They were on a major street and had people standing outside to invite you in. That being said, the fish cake with cheese was delicious. It was hot crispy and cheesy goo coming out. Oh but be careful. There can be bones lol We ordered on to share with two beers and that was 18euros. On the price side i think
Anne C — Google review
The cashier didn't want to show the menu. Didn't say the prices before hand. He recommended wine and bacalao. The bacalao is tasty, especially with the cheese. Never ever take the wine. It's disgustingly sweet and supper expensive. A small glass can be from 13 eu to 18 eu. The bacalao with cheese is 6 euro. NEVER take the wine, try the bacalao. Edit: i decided to remove stars cause i saw the menu, they actually offer soft drinks and coffee too. And there is cheaper wine for 7.5 euro.
Kaos T — Google review
Tried the famous pastel de bacalhau here — very filling and tasty, especially with the cheese inside. However, I found it a bit overpriced, and unfortunately there was a small fish bone in mine. Nice experience, but be careful while eating.

Restaurant
Laurentina, also known as o rei do bacalhau or the king of cod, is a renowned restaurant in Lisbon that has been serving traditional Portuguese dishes since 1976. Founded by Antonio Francisco Pereira, the restaurant pays homage to the cod with a variety of authentic Portuguese and Mozambican-influenced dishes. The cozy atmosphere and exclusive taste of their cod meals make Laurentina a popular choice for locals and visitors alike.
We make reservation, the pastel de bacalhau was so good. Bacalhau de natas was amazing and different than everything we ate before. Really surprise us. Also the bacalhau ao bras was good. Baba de camelo desert we saw a lot of recomendations in reviews but i think was not amazing or even good (easy 6/10).
Mariana M — Google review
Actually one of the worst food experiences we had in years. The good reviews on google are obviously not true. Everything was oily, salty and overall unpleasent. The waiter was unprofessional and even started to flirt with one of my friends which we felt was very weird. The food tasted absolutely bad. Oil with fish and salt. No veggies, no nothing. Thats it. One friend even went home and had to puke. We should have gone to the Kebap shop across the street.
Rhubinaa — Google review
They truly are the royalty of the codfish! For a kingdom to be grand, you need great rulers and a flock of subjects, which they have too; so many flies. Eat inside if you wish avoid a meal where you spend time swatting aimlessly. As for the food and the service, they’re delicious. Go for cod dishes, you won’t regret it!
VCZ — Google review
This is a classy restaurant where you know you will eat good food, have a quality time and perfect service. The service is outstanding, the ambience is familiar, cozy and traditional and the food is tasty and very good, balanced in flavour. We really enjoyed the octopus salad!! Just a small warning: you will pay for all this. Don’t expect to be cheap, but also it is not very expensive I just think is a bit expensive to be Portugal, but you will have a good time and food.
Vicky F — Google review
Food: The other reviewers who have stated that the food is delicious and those who also stated that their food came out cold, I was a diner who experienced both the highs of Laurentina, as well as the lows of Laurentina. I ordered the soup but unfortunately, it came out cold when I got it so I got it reheated and once it came back warm, it was tasty but it still was a bit frustrating. The Bacalhau though was the one thing that saved the meal as it was good. Service: Honestly, I'm quite conflicted. I think there's a disconnect between the service staff and the cooking staff somewhere as I not only had my order done incorrectly but also I received my soup cold. I think there's some disconnect between the wait staff and the kitchen which has caused this to happen. However, to be fair to the waitress, she was able to fix it twice. Atmosphere: It looked like a nice restaurant that catered to all ages, groups and demographics. I probably would not come here again, but I do think that it does have some saving grades contrary to the harsher reviewers.
Chris C — Google review
Advised to visit for a good range of bacalhau dishes and did not disappoint. Easy to find, great staff and a good range of meals and wines. Definitely a visit for authentic Portuguese food.
A P — Google review
Everything was perfect in a word. We went to try the cod fish, but the taste didn't appeal to me much. It was too heavy and I couldn’t finish it. However, the service and staff were very attentive and ambiance is good enough. I give 5 stars obrigado 🌟
Kagan U — Google review
Lives up to the name of King of Bacalhau! We got a reservation for 7pm and had a great meal with 3 types of Bacalhau and then 4 great desserts. It's a bit pricey but they were filling portions. The service was good but sometimes it took a while for the server to come by to put in our dessert order or get the bill. Also, a small thing but the chairs were annoying to get in and put of.

Nestled in the vibrant Parque das Nacoes, D'Bacalhau is a culinary gem that celebrates Portugal's beloved salted cod. This contemporary dining spot not only specializes in bacalhau but also offers an enticing selection of meat and seafood dishes, including grilled octopus and shrimp risotto. The cozy atmosphere makes it perfect for families or friends looking to indulge in traditional flavors. A highlight of the menu is their award-winning bacalhau com natal, which showcases the versatility of this iconic dish.
We arrived early around 12pm on a Thursday after taking the cable car. The guys there reccomended this restaurant and the google reviews confirmed it was worth a try. The prawns were okay but needed the peri peri sauce and the star of the show was the Bacalhau. We had the chefs special one and it was phenomenal. Would for sure recommend this restaurant.
Alexander K — Google review
Overall, an excellent lunch choice. We had the sharing platter which arrived very quickly. It was lukewarm which initially was a bit off putting BUT the flavours were delicious. The cod was cooked to perfection and the differences in the dishes made it a lovely tasting experience. Washed down with a refreshing bottle of vinho verde. The staff were attentive and pleasant despite the restaurant being very busy.
A M — Google review
The food is just perfect; what I mean is that it tastes as if you grandma or a great aunt just cooked this for you, it has a tastes of home. Service was fast and accommodating as we came with a toddler in a stroller; waitress waited nearby to take our order and speaking of ordering the menus are kinda funny since they are just a folded sheet of paper BUT the right amount of information on it (with pictures). Two super fulfilling dishes for around 30€ was perfect for us.
Humberto F — Google review
Genuinely love eating at this restaurant. Multiple different food preparations of cod fish and each as nice as each other in terms of flavour and portion size. Lovely selection of wine to accompany the food also. The staff are consistently pleasant to deal with and seem happy at their job. This alone brings credit to the establishment. Of the restaurants situated on that strip, this one is in top 3. The location is ideal also as the view of the sunset across the river can be seen. Would highly recommend an evening meal here.
Paul M — Google review
Atmosphere of the restaurant was nice especially that was a Halloween day. However, one of the bread in the basket on our table got mouldy (black green dots) and while I told the waitress about that, she denied that at first time, but then she exchanged for us after finding those were really moulds. Bad feeling. And the bread were not fresh at all, I reckon were they made for long time already. Next, we ordered the Pataniscas de Bacalhau com Arroz de Feijao (pan fired cod fish cake plus a risotto combo). The fish cake tasted fair without much surprises, and the risotto was too watery like puree. Although the risotto had taste of seafood, I couldn’t see what I was eating actually as they were too mashed. And there were sand particles while chewing too. Honestly, I seldom give such negative comments to the food quality of a restaurant but I really didn’t like this one. I shouldn’t solely believe the high rating on Google or recommendation of my hotel staff as it ruined my dining experience of my last night in Portugal. Not being offensive but this was my genuine opinion. I appreciated the good singing of the performance guests in that night though, they lighted up the atmosphere in the restaurant.
Jasmine C — Google review
The food was okay nothing super amazing. My friend is vegetarian, the vegetarian option that was ordered was vary tasteless, tasted like a batter fried in oil with a few corn pieces inside. The fish dish was okay. The portions are big. Nobody brought us a menu when we sat down, at least we had one menu on the table but in portuguese
Samanta V — Google review
We had the mixed platers of 4 dishes. 3 of them were lukewarm which was a pity. They tasted good. Service was good and swift. Nice atmosphere.

Solar do Bacalhau, located in the Rossio, is a restaurant that offers a mix of Italian and Portuguese cuisine. While cod dishes are a highlight due to its name, the menu also features grilled fish, seafood cataplanas, steaks, skewers, and salads. The extensive wine list provides excellent pairings for the diverse menu. Visitors praise the exceptional food and service provided by manager Paulo Mariano and his team.
Both outdoor and indoor seating; we chose indoors, and the restaurant is huge. There are many staff bustling about taking orders, clearing tables, etc. Everyone was very friendly and kept a close eye on things. We shared a mixed salad and each ordered the highly recommended cod dinners. One shredded cod, potato and egg casserole; and the other a cod fish dinner. Both meals were delicious and very filling. We did not have room for dessert. This was a delightful experience of an authentic Portugese restaurant specializing in cod. As recommended by our walking tour guide.
David S — Google review
Solid traditional Portuguese food, albeit largely catered toward tourists / hotel residents near Rossio Square. We weren’t in the mood to stray too far in our hunt for food on Christmas Day in Lisbon, so my mom and I decided to walk across the street from our hotel to give Solar do Bacalhau a shot. It’s a cute space, with lots of live seafood swimming about in their fish tanks, and an interesting pink / salmon-color for all of their decor, tablecloths, and napkins. We started off our meal with the codfish fritters, which were phenomenal — they were flaky in the center and nice and crispy on the outside, and there were a few small chunks of various veggies mixed in for a pop of color and texture. It also came on a bed of salad, which was super fresh and simple. For our mains, my mom got one of their signature pork dishes, which includes a loin with slices of ham on top, and coated with a lovely, rich sauce. The pork was tender and the sauce was flavorful, and the ham also offered an extra bit of saltiness and a contrasting texture. The dish also came with fries, which were nice and crispy, although a bit lacking in seasoning. On my end, I opted for the grilled sea bass; it was well-grilled, with a nice char on the outside and a lot of tender, flaky meat. The fish was pretty fresh, although I wouldn’t say that it was the highest quality seafood I had had in Portugal. It came with a few boiled potatoes and sauteed spinach, which were both solid. We decided to end the meal with the Portuguese rice pudding, which was delightfully creamy and cinnamon-y — a great end to our Christmas food adventures. Beyond the food, the service was phenomenal. The staff was incredibly diligent, clearing plates remarkably quickly (almost seconds after we finished), and refilling drinks with almost superhuman speed. Our server was also super helpful in helping us decide on what to eat; I was initially waffling on which type of fish to get, and he kindly informed me that all of their cod dishes aren’t fresh, but are frozen and salted…not necessarily the type of information I would expect a server to give out willingly, but I really appreciated the honesty, and it helped me settle on a dish that I was way happier with.

This restaurant was recommended by our hotel, and it turned out to be a wonderful suggestion! The food was lovely, with everything prepared perfectly, and the flavors were spot on. The service was equally great—friendly, attentive staff who made the experience even better. Definitely a place worth visiting if you’re in the area!
Kristie P — Google review
A friend of mine recommended this place to us. We walked up without reservations and got a table right away. We sat outside. I was so glad, as it was a beautiful evening. We ordered a bottle of vino verde, a typical white wine from Portugal. We were served fresh bread along with olives and a cheese spread of some sort. Delicious! I had the cod with roasted potatoes, carrots, zucchini, topped with lots of thinly sliced roasted garlic and olive oil. DH had the grilled sea bass, also with the potatoes, carrots and zucchini. Mine was excellent but the sea bass was overcooked. The manager was kind to remove the sea bass from our bill. Good service by our waiter.
Monica P — Google review
Best cod fish in my trip. I asked for a more “complete” version with onion, garlic, potato and spinach. They were very flexible and prepared a very nice dish! Would definitely recommend this place!
Bruno A — Google review
I wish I could give this place zero stars. From the moment we arrived, the warning signs were there the kind of restaurant with glossy pictures plastered all over the menu and a crew of guys out front begging you to come inside. We decided to give it a try because they served lunch portions and we just needed a small bite while we waited for dinner. The paella was, without exaggeration, the worst I have ever had in my entire life. It was bland, overcooked, and downright inedible. We asked for some French fries that never came, yet we still had to make sure they weren’t added to the bill. Speaking of the bill imagine our surprise when we were charged for bread that no one ever told us would cost money. Where I’m from, bread is complimentary, so it felt like a sneaky upcharge. Communication is important especially as a tourist restaurant you don’t assume anything The whole experience screamed tourist trap bad food, careless service, and hidden charges. Lisbon is full of incredible, authentic places to eat, and this is absolutely not one of them. Do yourself a favor: avoid this place at all costs and seek out a genuine local restaurant instead.

Manteigaria is a renowned bakery specializing in delectable tarts filled with egg custard and topped with cinnamon, accompanied by strong espresso. These Portuguese custard tarts are a must-try during your travels, offering a taste of tradition and culture. With locations in Barrio Alto, Alfama, and Chiado, Manteigaria provides easy access to these delightful treats. Hands down, the best pastel de nata I’ve ever tried in Lisbon! It’s different from the egg tarts I’m used to from Asia, but the custard here is incredibly fresh, creamy, and perfectly balanced. The crust is delightfully crispy, and I love that you can sprinkle cinnamon powder on top or enjoy it as is—both ways are amazing! This is an absolute must-try spot for anyone visiting Lisbon. Highly recommend!

Some of the tastiest pastéis de nata we had in Lisbon! Located in a lovely spot at the beginning of Bairro Alto, right across from the square. You can enjoy your pastéis de nata at a small stand or take them away with you.
Dimmm167 — Google review
After trying most of the popular and recommended places for pastel de natas, I would have to say this is better than the most by small margin. Most places in Lisbon makes good pastel de natas, and hard to tell which is better but this one had slightly richer custard and lingering pleasant flavour. Would definitely recommend but brace for a lineup as it gets really busy. Luckily the line moves pretty fast.

Title: Good in Small Doses Manteigaria is one of those places you *have* to try in Lisbon, and yes—the pastel de nata lives up to the hype… but only to a point. The first one or two are lovely: crisp shell, creamy custard, that iconic warm comfort. But if you overindulge, the charm starts slipping. The more you pay attention to the flavor details, the more it shifts from “wow” to “hmm, maybe not as magical as I thought.” Coffee was fine, nothing to write home about. I also tried their glühwein, which turned out both pricey and un-drinkable—one sip was more than enough. The setup is convenient, though. They’ve got a stand where you can grab a pastel on the spot (probably the best way to enjoy it—fresh, hot, and fleeting), or place an order to take away. Overall: worth trying, especially if you’re in Chiado/Baixa and want that Lisbon pastry experience. Just don’t get carried away—sometimes less really is more.

It was very crunchy and caramelized on top but the pastry wasn’t as flakey as I would have liked. It was a little too sweet for me. I’d recommend people to eat at the store because there is an extra charge for takeout

When I came across this picture of this super delicious pastel de nata, I remembered that I actually took this picture to write a review. So here we go … For me this is where you go for the best pastel de nata in town. Without doubt I have been taking all my visitors over the years and no one has not liked them ever! They all want to go back and often I take a box back with me to the family when I visit my folks. I am definitely missing one right now …

By far the best Pastéis de Nata I tasted. I would rank my top 3 as follows: 1. Manteigaria (only tried this location twice) 2. Pastéis de Belem 3. Piriquita (Located in Sintra)

Nestled in the heart of Lisbon's Chiado district, Belcanto is a culinary gem that beautifully marries tradition with innovation. Under the visionary guidance of renowned chef Jose Avillez, this chic wood-paneled restaurant has evolved into a gastronomic haven for those eager to explore the depths of Portuguese cuisine. With an ever-evolving menu that showcases modern interpretations of classic dishes, diners can expect delightful surprises like the artistic Skate Jackson Pollock and the playful Inverted Martini.
Absolutely phenomenal experience dining at Belcanto last night. The staff here are pretty exceptional and made us feel right at home. From the start, they clearly described the menu and how to night would run. They were very attentive throughout the evening and ensured they gave us enough space at the same time. We even took a break half way through the meal which they were very accommodating. The food was fantastic, each dish delivered was very well presented and the flavours were spot on. Not overly complicated but fresh and well balanced. Lots of fish dishes which we love. The restaurant itself is stunning, just the right noise level where we didn't feel like we were in a library and had to whisper like in other restaurants we have been to. We ended up chatted to the couple beside us who were also enjoying the experience like us. We will most certainly be back on our next visit to Lisbon.

Well deserved Michelin star. We ordered from the A La Carte menu & were surprised with all the snacks in between the meals. Everything was presented and cooked to perfection. The matured sirloin was amazing ! All the meals came out in a timely manner. The service itself was great and attentive to detail. This experience was exceptional and I would come back again !

The service and ambiance is excellent. Bread and butter amazing. We had the menu of 2 entrees, one main dish and dessert. The snacks were amazing but the other dishes are heavy and out dated. Understating these are dishes from past menus. Main dishes were served ambient temperature.

Belcanto is definitely unique — and definitely unexpected. If you’re open to extremely creative food (like bacon ice cream) and ready to pay top euros for an artistic dining experience, this is the place for you. One thing I really appreciated was the presentation: before every dish, we were given a small card with a hint about what was coming next. At the end of the meal, those cards were gathered and handed to me in a beautifully scented envelope — a lovely and memorable touch. Another highlight was the short tour through the kitchen before dinner. It was a surprise and something I’ve never experienced before — a very personal and engaging start to the evening. If I could make one suggestion, it would be to inform guests in advance how many dishes are included in the tasting menu. We weren’t too hungry when we arrived and decided to try the full menu anyway, but at some point in the middle, we stopped enjoying the food simply because we were so full and had no idea how many courses were still to come. Also, the bread portions could be smaller — many guests seemed to leave them almost untouched, which likely leads to unnecessary waste. Overall, Belcanto is a remarkable restaurant that blends art and cuisine in a truly creative way. Still, while I enjoy inventive flavors and bold combinations, I tend to prefer meals that stay a bit closer to the familiar side. I’m glad I experienced it once — it’s unforgettable — but it’s probably not a place I would return to.

What a wonderful experience we had for my birthday. I am glad to choose Belcanto for this year celebration. The 9 course tasting was phenomenal. "The Codfish House" is a premier seafood restaurant in Portugal that celebrates the country's love for Bacalhau, or codfish. With over 1001 ways to cook it, this fish is an essential part of Portuguese cuisine. The restaurant offers a variety of inventive dishes featuring cod, such as cod cataplana with cream and shrimps and the creative cod "Holy Friday," which combines Italian pasta with pepperoni.
If you’re in Lisbon, you have to try codfish and The Codfish House is the perfect place for it! Cozy atmosphere, beautiful interior and super friendly service. There’s a fantastic wine list and an amazing variety of cod dishes. It feels warm and welcoming, and the food is just outstanding. Definitely worth a visit if you want to experience the real taste of Portugal.

I had the chance to visit this restaurant recently, and overall, I really enjoyed the food. The dishes were genuinely delicious and beautifully prepared. I also really appreciated the generous portion sizes, both the starters and mains were more than enough, making it a great place for sharing. I’d definitely return just for the food alone. The ambiance was also lovely, with tasteful decor that made the space feel warm and inviting. However, I did find the service to be a bit of a letdown. The restaurant wasn’t particularly busy, yet it was quite difficult to get the attention of the staff. Even with a raised hand and calling out politely, we were often overlooked. We had to call them over several times to place our order, to ask for basic things, and even to get the bill. It just felt like the attentiveness and customer care weren’t quite up to the standard you’d expect from such a nice place. That said, if the service improves, this would be a truly top-notch dining spot. I’m still glad I visited and would return for the food, but I hope the team becomes a bit more attentive in the future.

I had an amazing experience at A Casa do Bacalhau! Everything was perfect, from the warm and professional service to the beautiful and welcoming atmosphere. I’m usually not a big fan of seafood, but I truly enjoyed the food here. It was absolutely delicious, served at the perfect temperature, and full of rich, authentic flavors. Every detail, from presentation to taste, was spot on. Highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Lisbon and looking for the best bacalhau experience!

A true highlight on our trip to Lisbon. Definitely worth the drive from Chiado, where we were staying. The best food we had on our trip. I had the cod with asparagus risotto. The fish was cooked perfectly, and the portion was generous. They also have a wonderful wine selection. They also had a highchair, which was a bonus for a toddler Mom. Definitely recommend!

Bacalhau (pronounced bakaˈʎaw in Portuguese) is dried and salted cod, considered one of the most iconic staples of Portuguese cuisine. The Portuguese often joke that they have 1001 ways to prepare bacalhau, reflecting both its popularity and versatility. I wanted to try a variety of bacalhau dishes, and a Portuguese friend living in Lisbon recommended a place where we could do just that. We ordered two of the roughly 30 bacalhau options: the very popular Bacalhau à Brás (€25) and the classic Bacalhau Assado (€26). Fantastic—our palates were more than satisfied. For dessert, we had baked pear in port wine with cheesecake, followed by uma bica (espresso coffee). All of this came to €68. I can confidently recommend this place, and I’m sure that if I ever return to Lisbon, I’ll definitely come back to try more varieties of bacalhau.

The ambiance of this restaurant is lovely! Making a reservation was easy and readily available. The food was delicious. We ordered the rosemary cod and also the cod with asparagus risotto. Both dishes were outstanding. The wine selection was a bit hit or miss. We had to order three different Vinho Verde before one we had picked was available. The wait staff wasn’t amazing. We had a few people that checked one us, some kinder than others. It didn’t kill the experience but one star less because of it. I wish they would’ve assigned us the English speaking waiter from the get go. Although we speak Spanish as well. Overall, I do recommend it. The food was amazing! P.S. the bread and olives they have waiting for you at the table are not a courtesy, they’ll charge those.
Ivonne V — Google review
The place exudes elegant and chic vibes. The waiters speak good English. The servings were big, and a dish may be shared by 2 persons. I recommend this place. As with any resto in Lisbon, they serve good wine.
Rhea E — Google review
A fantastic date location with an intimate feel despite the size of the restaurant. We were sat in a booth and very well served by two waiters who let us decide and order at our pace and talked us through the options and wine menu. The couvert which was on our table was a great way to start, we also ordered the salted cod fishcakes which were crisp and very flavourful. Our mains were the gratin and the Bacalhau a bras, both of which were rich and comforting and went very well with the vinho verde that our waiter recommended! The portions were very large, far too much which was unfortunate as we loved the food!

Seafood restaurant
Cervejaria Ramiro is a bustling seafood and beer spot that has been around since the 1950s. It's a popular haunt for both locals and tourists, with queues often stretching down the street. The restaurant gained international attention when Anthony Bourdain featured it on his show, No Reservations. Despite its name, Cervejaria Ramiro is renowned for its exceptional seafood offerings such as lobster, prawns, crab, clams cooked in olive oil and garlic, and more.
When we arrived, they almost seemed like they expecting us to they ushered us to the patio entrance while asking everyone else to go to the main door. The server told us our table would be ready in a few moments as the previous guests were just settling up. The wait took a little longer, so he offered to start us off with drinks while we waited. It was such nice and thoughtful service. That level of service was provided throughout the meal with every staff member. When we didn’t know how to eat the barnacles, they were so excited to show us how to take it out of the shell and eat it. I’m sure they’ve done it for so many tourists. It’s the attentiveness and friendly service that really made our visit so memorable. Of course the food was spectacular. The seafood with so fresh. And the shrimp with garlic was out of this world. 10/10 recommend

The seafood here is incredibly fresh. You can really taste the ocean in every bite. My absolute favorite was the scarlet prawns. The flavor just exploded in my mouth, and the tender, buttery texture was beyond amazing. It’s a true culinary experience and honestly, a food orgasm. 10/10 a must-try when you’re in town! 🦐🤤

Recommend you reserve as otherwise could be quite a wait. Absolute 5/5 from the food, to the atmosphere, to the staff. Every dish we tried was delicious, although my personal favourite was the razor clams in garlic oil. If you can imagine your ideal seafood experience, this would be it. Highly recommend you dip the bread into the sauces (like the garlic oil) - it pairs very well together. Staff was friendly and attentive. Empty dishes were cleared quickly. There was no upselling on food - we had eyes larger than our stomachs and the staff wisely advised that what we had was enough and we can order more if we wanted to - and the food spoke for itself as we were all very satisfied and happy at the end of our meal. Of all the restaurants I’ve tried thus far in Lisbon, this would be one I’d come back to over and over again.

All my friends said this was a must try restaurant in Lisbon, and after visiting, I have to agree. I was lucky that day since there was no wait for a table. After checking the menu, I noticed it’s mostly seafood, so if you don’t eat seafood or are vegetarian, I wouldn’t recommend it. But otherwise, this place truly lives up to the hype. I love crab, and I had the best crab of my life here! The shrimp was my second favorite, and I saw many people ordering the clams and garlic shrimp as well. The service was excellent too!

Had the absolute best meal here. Seafood lovers only ! The dishes are simply prepared but made with fresh seafood and cooked to perfection. We tried the spider crab which was prepared with sauce made from the innards of the crab. We also had grilled and sauces tiger prawns , scallops, gooseneck barnacles and oysters - try with a green wine and you can’t go wrong. The servers here were all so lovely - must visit when in Lisbon . Make sure to make a reservation in advance

I have been planning to visit Ramiro for a few years now, especially because of how everyone praises it so highly. Last Friday, I finally went, and I must say it exceeded my expectations. It is definitely the best "cervejaria" (seafood place) I have been to in Portugal. The seafood is fresh and delicious, and the service is exceptional—old school yet efficient. It may look hectic, but everything is on point: quick, friendly, and cheeky. I can't wait to return!

Second Visit, Just as Special as the First This is my second time here. The first was many years ago, before COVID, with my late dad — a tough man to please, but he loved it. That memory has always stayed with me, and returning this time with my husband felt special. I'm happy to say he truly loved it too. We had the prawn gambas and instantly regretted not ordering two — they were that good! The clams came in a savoury broth that paired perfectly with bread. Every bit of seafood was incredibly fresh — from the sweet tiger prawns to the scallops and oysters (yes, fresh fresh — the oyster flesh even twitched when we poked it!). What we really appreciated was that we weren’t pressured to order anything expensive like the lobster or crab. We simply ordered what we wanted and had a genuinely great time. Oh, and the whisky ice cream cake? Absolutely obsessed. We were surprised by how well it worked — like a digestif and dessert all in one. Such a clever and delicious combo! We wanted to visit again before our last day but made a foolish mistake that it's closed on Monday! We'll definitely come back!!

We’ve eaten twice at Clube do Bacalhau now as it is only a short stroll from our accommodation. We’ve enjoyed the delicious seafood prepared for traditional Portuguese dishes such as grilled sardines, grilled octopus, cod fish cakes and paella. Tapas plate with cheese, jamon and olives was great too. Prices are reasonable compared to some of the other offerings in the heart of Baixa. Pleasant on-street dining in a quiet alley. Shout out to our friendly waiter, Renel, who provided great service on both occasions.

Located in the heart of Lisbon coastal downtown, this place sees most diners in outdoor alfresco for its chill laidback charm in the day. We came after checking out the reviews and ordered the mixed fish platter and a grilled octopus. The platter might be able to feed 2 big eaters but not us. It was enormous .. and not all the fish pieces were consistently cooked well. The grilled octopus on the other hand, was excellently cooked - loved it!

Nestled in the heart of Lisbon on Rua dos Sapateiros, Marisqueira Uma is a charming seafood haven that has captured the hearts of both locals and visitors alike. While the menu may be limited to just a handful of options like omelets, steaks, and cod, it’s clear why this spot stands out: their renowned seafood rice. This dish is often hailed as one of the best in the city and draws crowds eager to indulge in its rich flavors.
Great taste of the garlic shrimp! The first time to drink a cup of green wine with sparking, suitable for launch. And juicy seafood rice with kinds of fresh seafood. When I walk by in the raining, the restaurant really provide a warm and cozy experience in my trip. Thanks Asuka, Jeni, and Roze.

Delicious Seafood Rice & Great Local Spot Uma Marisqueira We came to Uma Marisqueira for seafood rice, and it was absolutely delicious. We started with the garlic shrimp, which was full of flavor, and paired it with their house wine a great match with the meal. For our main dish, we ordered the seafood rice for our family of three. They offer portions for two people or individual servings, and it comes out in a big pot filled with crab, shrimp, and all the good flavors. Be prepared to get a little messy the crab is worth it! The rice itself was rich, hearty, and so satisfying. A quick note: don’t come here if you’re in a rush. They take their time preparing everything, and it’s a small place. But they do have extra seating next door, and the staff is very friendly and welcoming. Overall, highly recommended if you want authentic, delicious seafood and a relaxed local dining experience.

This place has a lean menu but a great one! I enjoyed the seafood rice thoroughly, they have single portions which is great for solo travelers. The ladies Asuka, Jeni, Rozee were also great, the service was good! I was not used to the tools they provided for cracking the crab and they so kindly taught me how to use it, and even tucked an extra napkin into my shirt for me!

The seafood rice is veryy very good (we have basically cleaned up the pot, not a single rice is left 真的太好吃了, 蟹肉啊, 蝦阿, 飯粒全部吃乾抹淨)! And their service are also very good, too. They are kind and nice. At the end we even got a treat with the Jinga (櫻桃利口酒) which is also very tasty! 😋 I attach a photo where I take three spoons out of the spot, so it is clearer what is contained.

O Velho Eurico is a cozy eatery known for its classic regional dishes and snug dining space with exposed-stone walls. Originally a traditional tasca, it gained fame for its exceptional polvo a lagareiro and balcalhau no forno. After the owner's retirement, young chefs took over, introducing an array of petiscos to the menu. The hand-written chalkboard showcases traditional Portuguese dishes that have been enjoyed for generations.
Amazing amazing food and drink. Very friendly service. The staff serve shots while you wait for your table. They are famous for their piglet pastry , the cod dish and the duck rice. They serve drinks , the piglet pastry and sardine dish through the window while you wait for the table. If you don’t have a reservation, prepare yourself for ~2 hour wait. It was a memorable experience for us.

Everything about this restaurant is exceptional except for the long wait to get in. It’s so popular that the reservations were booked out until the next month. We tried to get a walk in table. We had to wait 2 hours for a table. BUT once we did get a table and had the food all was forgiven. The food was so delicious! Go here if you have a night to wait for a table. The food is worth it if you’re happy to wait. Once you’re in, the service and atmosphere is excellent. You can also order snacks and drinks while you’re waiting outside.

We came here without a reservation (they’re fully booked for weeks!) but decided to wait for a walk-in spot. Ended up waiting about 2.5 hours – and honestly, I’m so glad we did. The vibe outside was great; they served drinks through a little window, and we got chatting with locals and other people waiting. It actually made the wait really fun. Once we got in, the service was amazing. The sous chef helped us choose dishes since some of our group don’t eat pork, and everyone was super friendly. We sat at the counter and got to watch the kitchen in action – speaking to chefs as they dished up their plates. The food was incredible! The watermelon and tomato salad, shrimp sauce with bread, and tuna picapau were my highlights. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully cooked. Totally worth the wait and the hype. This place made the perfect start to our trip and was one of the best places we dined at. If you can wait for a table to clear, trust me you won’t be disappointed.

One of the best dinners of my life! The vibe, the food, the staff, the location — everything was perfect. We arrived around 19/19:30 on a Sunday and put our name on the waiting list. Since we were a party of three, we got our table around 21:00, but honestly, the wait itself was enjoyable: a couple of Super Bocks and the cool atmosphere made the time fly. And then… wow. We tried almost all the dishes. My favorites were the chicken hearts, the bacalhau and the tuna — absolutely outstanding. We finished with some Porto and the egg cake. Congratulations to everyone working there for making this place so cool, delicious and authentic. I can’t wait to come back!

We had a great time here. Reserved in advance and got a table right away, however saw some people come early and put their name on the waiting list for the next available table so that is also an option. The food was amazing and beautifully presented. Waiters were also very attentive and kind. Definitely recommend!

A restaurant is an experience. If judged on the food alone, O Velho Eurico would get 6 stars. The food is incredible and reasonably priced. The issue is its pretention. It claims to accept reservations online, yet it only does that for a very small number of tables. Perhaps even just one table. I know this because I tried making a reservation about two months in advance and was not able to do so. I even contacted the restaurant directly and was told my only option was to arrive at the restaurant at opening (7:30pm) and reserve a table for that evening. So I did. I got there 30 minutes early and there were already 10 tables ahead of me waiting on the line. By opening time, there were at least 10 more tables after me. I then waited until about 745pm to even get to the host to put my name on the list and was told it would be an hour and 15 minutes before I would get a table. It was two hours. I finally sat down with friends at 9:45. They had about 5 main dishes, a handful of smaller dishes and a few desserts - not by any means an extensive menu. I also didn't think the staff particular nice - they weren't rude but weren't overly helpful or accommodating. Now, like I said before, the food was incredible. All of it. Top-notch execution. We had the chicken peri peri, duck rice, pork pocket (similar to an empanada), fries with Francesinha sauce, and leite creme. But to think that it's ok to ask tourists in town for just a few days to sacrifice 3 hours of time to wait for a table seems absurd and pretentious. For that reason, I cannot in good conscience give this restaurant give stars. This is an easy fix - so fix it. Permit reservations. And if you are concerned about people not showing up, charge a fee for late cancellations. Or just accept people on a first-come, first-serve basis. But do not put your customers through this circus of an ordeal.

So good!!!!!! We had to wait for a table which took 20-30min. It’s a small restaurant so it’s harder to get seated if you have more than 2 people. Food was extremely good! Duck rice, squid with orange sauce, bread with shrimp sauce were all so delicious! Don’t miss this place!

We dined here last night and it was hands down one of the best dining experiences we've had during our five-week trip around Europe! A word of advice: go in with an open mind. Be willing to try new things and embrace the authentic, rustic charm of the place - if you do, you’ll absolutely love it. We didn’t have a reservation and arrived around 7:15 PM. The staff added us to the waitlist and estimated about a 1–1.5 hour wait. No problem! We grabbed a drink at a nearby bar, then returned to enjoy a drink in their outdoor area before being seated. We were lucky enough to be seated at the bar, which turned out to be a real treat - we got a front-row view of the kitchen where everything was cooked with love, passion, and incredible efficiency. We ordered the duck rice, piri piri chicken, squid with orange sauce, and fries. Every single dish was phenomenal - packed with flavour and beautifully prepared. To top it all off, we ended the night with their delicious sponge cake, enjoyed great conversation with the friendly staff and fellow diners, and left with huge smiles on our faces. Highly recommend this spot - it’s a true gem!

As Salgadeiras is a charming Portuguese restaurant that has been around for many years. The original stone walls and arched ceiling are still visible, as well as the old oven. The menu offers creative fish and seafood dishes, and it's a great place to hide away with your partner.
Friendly, flavorful, amazing quality. Highly recommend! I had the octopus and my wife had the cod. Presentation was superb and the flavors of each meal were a perfect marriage of flavors and textures. The wine recommendations were spot on! The atmosphere is very cozy and romantic and it was a perfect ending to our day exploring beautiful Lisboa.

I was so shocked and impressed by how amazing this place is! After arriving at 11pm and worrying if the kitchen was still open, I had Paulo warmly greet and reassure me that it was and the team on the floor (who were all very friendly and helpful) all made my night! The food itself is just delicious, I got the Fillet Mignon ‘Portuguese style’ medium rare and it was absolutely perfect! I also had the Abade de Priscos Pudding which was a great way to finish off my meal. The staff and the food genuinely made my night and I hope to be back soon

Great spot for seafood and traditional dishes! The cod was tasty, a little on the salty side but still very good. The octopus was absolutely amazing, the best we’ve ever had. The pork was also delicious, though we were already quite full by then. The wine was excellent and paired perfectly with the meal. Overall, superb food, friendly and attentive service made for a truly memorable experience. Highly recommend!

Very popular restaurant. Nice environment. Great service. Amazing food, loved the cod with mashed broccoli! The black pork was delicious! Need to book a table in advance.

The good: the restaurant has a lovely elegant design. The service was attentive and courteous. The suggested wines were spot on. We eagerly awaited our food which was promptly served. The food presentation looked scrumptious and Instagram worthy. Unfortunately my dish and my dining partners’ missed the mark. I had the filet mignon (style was named for the restaurant). The fries were cold and bland. The steak was disappointing and left a nasty aftertaste in my mouth. My partners both had the cod with almonds. They both were disappointed. The fish tasted rubbery and was swimming in oil.

I chose this place to spend a special dinner with my partner and could not have been happier. The atmosphere is so cozy and in fact they even moved us to another table due to the first being a bit too cozy! The server was very attentive and kept the wine flowing! Really had a lovely evening and perfect way to start off the night!

Following reading positive reviews, we made a reservation for dinner here during one of our nights in Lison on a recent trip last month. We were there early enough that all tables weren't yet occupied and we were placed at a great quiet, intimate spot in a back corner; it was ideal. Very nice atmosphere! Our server was excellent and our meal very good. The reviews were correct! Husband enjoyed his sole in pastry, and I had a pork dish stuffed with sausage which unfortunately I couldn't appreciate as much as I had hoped to as I was feeling a little under the weather after a long day of sightseeing and the start of a head cold. It was a lovely plating and presentation, which I could appreciate! We shared a yummy chocolate chiffon dessert and all-in-all, it was an enjoyable, romantic evening away from hustle and bustle. I did notice when we were leaving that all the tables were occupied and a line outside, so I expect reservations are recommended; I'm glad we made them!

O BECO is a hidden gem in Lisbon that celebrates the rich tradition of bacalhau, or salted codfish, which holds a special place in Portuguese cuisine, especially during festive occasions like Christmas Eve. This beloved dish has deep roots, with its origins tracing back to Norway where it was salted for preservation during long journeys across the Atlantic.
The place is very cozy and the food amazing. I had a bacalau com natas and I just wanted to order a second one. Also the staff was super friendly. If you are in Lisbon this is excellent place for a nice intimate meal. Also it's not cheap but neither expensive for the quality
Imanol C — Google review
We had dinner at O Beco and the food was truly excellent. The appetizer was delicious, and the Bacalhau dish I ordered was probably one of the best I’ve had in Portugal – cooked perfectly with amazing flavors. The wine selection was also fantastic and paired beautifully with the meal. That being said, the experience was a bit mixed. The prices felt slightly on the higher side for the portions, but still reasonable given the quality. The main downside was the service. Unfortunately, our server was not as welcoming as others we’ve encountered in Portugal. We requested olive oil and spices to add to our food (a personal preference of ours), but even though they had them available, he refused to bring them, explaining it wasn’t part of their tradition. We found this disappointing, as we felt it should be up to the guest’s choice. Overall, the food and wine were excellent and definitely worth trying, but the service could have been more flexible and friendly.
Patrick J — Google review
Absolutely wonderful! The food was exceptional, and the waiter was incredibly kind and attentive. He explained each dish and even helped when I accidentally got a stain on my shirt. It may be a bit expensive, but it’s definitely worth every penny!
Giorgio C — Google review
We booked a table at the last minute, and I’m so glad we did — this cozy restaurant fills up quickly. You have to knock to be let in, which adds a touch of intrigue. Inside, it’s beautifully designed with comfortable chairs and warm, romantic lighting—a refreshing change from the harsh, blue-toned LEDs you find in so many places across southern Europe. It truly feels like a date-night spot. We ended up chatting with the owner, and his recommendations were spot-on. The traditional Portuguese dishes were exceptional, they were so good that I’m honestly worried they’ve ruined other restaurants for us. The bar is officially set high.
Eva T — Google review
The food here is incredible! I was eager to try classic bacalhau dishes and both we tried were excellent. The restaurant is small but cosy and tucked away inconspicuously down an alley!
Kyle S — Google review
My wife had been craving Bacalhau com Natas, a dish she grew up eating, and this was the place to satisfy it. What Chef Lu prepared didn’t just hit the mark — it brought childhood memories flooding back. She’ll never admit it, but this Bacalhau com Natas even beat her grandmother’s version — and that’s saying something! As for me, I’ve had my fair share of bacalhau dishes over the years, and the Bacalhau à Brás here was hands down the best I’ve ever tasted — perfectly seasoned, balanced, and absolutely delicious. We’ve always believed that the best meals come from skipping the restaurants with picture menus and venturing instead off the beaten path. This spot proves that rule once again. From the charming and knowledgeable host/owner and his wonderful wine selection to Chef Lu’s incredible cooking, this place has it all. Warm, welcoming, and unforgettable — the kind of restaurant that reminds you why it’s worth exploring the quiet corners and trusting your instincts. We almost missed our flight after this meal — but honestly, it was definitely worth it.

The seafood at Grelha do Carmo is particularly outstanding, with many praising it as the best they've ever had in Lisbon.
I write a ton of reviews, for good restaurants… but not for bad ones.. with this said we had the most incredible dinner here during our stay. I expected a tourist trap because of the central location but I could have been further from the truth! The place is run by a family, who was really kind and the food was fresh and tasty. A truly authentic experience,

Nice local restaurant. The fish is fresh and the food is tasty and well-made. The atmosphere is not good because it is just an old place with a TV that is on all the time and no music. The prices were too high and it is not a meal that is value for money enough, we were charged for water and olives at the start. They do not accept credit cards!

We were happy to come back again and again. Such a special and heartwarming place. We’ll never forget the kind elderly man who works there- and of course, the flavors… so simple, yet so unforgettable. We would return to Portugal just for this experience alone!

Housemade, simple Portuguese food in a simple cafe. We had olives, bread, sardines with roasted potatoes & salad, mushroom omelet, lemon cream and a baked apple for desert with green sparking wine. A Muralha Tasca Típica Lisboa is a charming and delightful restaurant located in the Alfama neighborhood of Lisbon. The atmosphere is relaxed, with a lovely patio where guests can enjoy their meals. The menu features fresh grilled fish, seafood rice, cod, octopus, and various grilled meat dishes. Adjacent to the restaurant is a wine and tapas bar offering a wide selection of wines.
Not only was the food great but the atmosphere of the restaurant and the staff’s hospitality were also wonderful and made me feel comfortable. It was featured in a guidebook and was bustling with locals so I was looking forward to the meal. The seafood risotto was rich in flavor and I was pleased to find carefully prepared clams and prawns. The grilled octopus was tender with a nice hint of garlic. The roasted potatoes were perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. I definitely want to go back again.

If you’re looking for some perfect local cuisine and a perfect atmosphere, this place is a must visit! The sardines came in a generous portion and were perfect, the bras style cod (shredded salted cod) was exceptional and the seafood rice was the definition of comfort food! Atmosphere was beautiful, with high spirited locals singing and playing their guitars while sharing meals. The service was also AMAZING! This was honestly a highlight of Lisbon, thankyou so much!

While visiting Lisbon we wanted to find an old Alfama restaurant where we can relax and enjoy the food. This is the place we chose, A Muralha and it was wonderful , we went several times during our stay and tried different dishes. I highly recommend their specialty Bife do Lombo and you cannot fail with the local fish or octopus. Their house white wine also is a must!

Amazing experience and food! We were recommended this place from our go-to taxi driver in Lisbon Mario! This was probably one of the best meals we had in Lisbon especially for seafood. The service was impeccable and the atmosphere is so cute. The outdoor tables are right under a grape vine where you can see actual grapes above you! We came early at 18:30 to beat the dinner crowds and it worked because right at 19:00 every table was reserved. Highly recommend the clams, grilled prawns, sea bass (careful it has a lot of bones though so next time I will probably try the octopus instead), and the Bifa steak which was sooo mouthwatering! The potatoes and vegetables on the side was super delicious too. Also the wine book is quite extensive! The waiter let us try two kinds before deciding and he was so helpful for recommendations. Highly recommend.

Very authentic, good quality food, great wine and kind service. You might stumble upon a local hero as well. Might be the post 📫 lady, or a fado singer who's 40(ish, we guess) years ago LP is displayed inside the restaurant. Anyway the food is great.

We stopped here on a guided tour for a meal prepared just for my wife and I. It started with some bread, olives and octopus salad that was delicious. It was complemented with green wine produced in Portugal. The flavors when well together. Then we had a cheese serving that went extremely well with the bread. Finally the grilled, before our very eyes over a high proof alcohol a chorizo that was juicy and tasty. Spectacular service, friendliness and welcoming.

Really nice place to have dinner in the Alfama region. The wine list is excelptional, has from all the wine regions from Portugal and most of them you can order by glass or bottle. The food was good but not that great, the service was excellent. Better to make reservation.

We had a wonderful dinner at A Muralha Tasca Típica in Lisbon. The atmosphere is cozy and authentic, and the food was delicious — from the grilled fish and octopus to the hearty seafood rice (AMAZING) and perfectly seasoned pasta dishes (see photos). The portions were generous, everything came out fresh, and the service was friendly and attentive without ever feeling rushed. You can tell they care about both the food and the guests. The location is also a highlight — a great spot to enjoy a leisurely dinner and then go for a nice walk up the nearby hills and stairs of Alfama afterwards to take in more of the city. All four of us left very happy with the meal and the experience. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Lisbon and looking for a traditional Portuguese tasca with excellent service and atmosphere.

The Bifanas of Afonso is a must-try when it comes to Portuguese cuisine. This popular pork fillet sandwich is known for its simple yet delicious taste, with the standout feature being the sauce in which the meat is marinated and sautéed. The restaurant, located just a short walk from Prado restaurant, serves some of the best pork sandwiches in town and is a favorite spot for those seeking authentic Portuguese snacks.
While researching I came across this place and it certainly did not disappoint. We weren’t extremely hungry so we just ordered one Bifana and one chocolate mousse. Around 5 pm was when we went and there was a very small line. I’d recommend going in between meal times to take advantage of the shorter wait times. It completely lived up to my expectations, and I would definitely return. The bifana itself had perfect chewy bread and with the meat it was heaven. The chocolate mousse was also delicious, and it was super light but not too sweet. I would definitely return!
Kate A — Google review
Following the review from some of the YouTubers and we gave it a tried. For $3, I can say this can be one of the best, reasonable price for lunch. Nothing special about the pork meat but the bun and the sauce was 🤤 delicious. This is a place you should visit if you don't want to spend too much for lunch and have more time to explore the area around. Thank you
Eric D — Google review
Great meal or snack mid day. They were super fast, kind with tourists and we enjoyed that we were able to have a good Portuguese food on the go. Took 10 minutes from entering the line to getting our bifanas (the line had about 15 people in it), as there’s a small courtyard you can sit in, although it can be busy
Jenelle — Google review
Cash only place The bifanas here are very tasty! They're more flavorful and you can really taste the wine and spices. The pork is less tender than other places but it's still very good. The bread can be a bit too floury. There can be a huge line-up so if you see a short line-up, goooo. The Patanisca de Bacalhau (fish fillet sandwich) is a cold fish fillet sandwich which is a bit odd, but the fish is tasty. I wouldn't say get that unless you really wanted to try it. This place also has Super Bock on tap! You can get a big or small size, and the small size is perfect for me for a lunch drink. Be sure to give this place a try if you're getting bifanas!
HTS L — Google review
Small takeout place for a Portuguese specialty, the Bifansa (stewed pork sandwich). Only 3 euros for the regular sandwich or 5 with cheese. Great portion size and definitely fantastic value at this price point. Highly recommend for a quick bite to eat. You can also add some chili oil and mustard. The bun was nice and soft too. Would definitely get it again!
Mark C — Google review
Long queue, goes quite quick though, €3 for a basic bufana that is quite filling and hot too. Ordered and served in about 2/3 minutes which was great. Definitely recommend adding on the mustard on the side, just takes it to another level, pork is tender and pairs well with the bread. Would gladly come back again and again.

Último Porto, located within the historic Estacao Maritima da Rocha do Conde de Obidos, has gained recognition for its splendid view of the Tejo River and its offering of traditional Portuguese dishes and charcoal-grilled delicacies. This spot is known for mastering the art of charcoal-grilled fish and is a great place to enjoy sardines, which are not commonly found on every seafood restaurant's menu in Lisbon.
It is not an easy place to get to in the middle of the port, but definitely worth going if you feel like very fresh fish or seafood straight from the grill. It was fully booked on a Saturday lunch and packed with locals. And yes, the bridge was not operating, so we had to struggle a bit to get an Uber back to Lisbon.

Good food and prices! However many mosquitos and flies around the food and place making the eating expirience disturbing. Also the manager is rude.
Alexandre M — Google review
Great food, slow service. The restaurant is located at the port of Lisbon, quite interesting. The views aren't that great as large cranes and containers block the river and 25 de Abril bridge. Plenty of free parking at the side of the restaurant, which is great. Service was really slow and kind of rude at times (not our main server though), entrees took like 1h and the rest of the food another one and the order was a bit mixed up with even one dish forgotten. But the food... We mostly ate fish and it was really good, worth the wait? Well, that's up for consideration but it was great. Well cooked, seemed quite fresh and it was well seasoned. I can recommend this restaurant only if you're not in a hurry and if temperatures outside are not that high.

Fresh fish and seafood in large portions and cheep prices. A bit hard to find. Google gave us the wrong directions... Felt a bit like a neighbourhood barbecue with high atmosphere and stressed waiters. Lots of locals in line for a table when we left. They had an eglish menu but did not speek much english.

This restaurant is for locals rather than tourists. The staff are not particularly friendly. It's near the harbor, but the view from the restaurant isn't great. But the taste of grilled fish is amazing. Salads are great too. The price is also reasonable. The taste of grilled sardines is really impressive. Although the material is also great, the skill of the grill master is the best.
조피디의 애 — Google review
The location is amazing and it's a very popular spot with a nice atmosphere. However, considering its reputation for serving some of the best fish in town, I expected more than what you would find at a local seaside restaurant. Unfortunately, most of the clams were sandy, the cuttlefish was dry, and the fish was close to being burnt rather than perfectly grilled. Despite the restaurant's popularity and being always packed, hopefully, our experience was just an off day for the food and a result of miscommunication. Additionally, we received several extra items on our bill that we didn't order, which seemed like bad luck. It's a shame because we really wanted to like the place.

Extremely unique experience and consistently high quality dishes. I did the tasting menu which was predominantly offal. I am not someone who likes offal let alone from a pig but I was completely taken aback. I also ate the pork sandwich which was both delicious and heavy and not needed. The tasting menu was very filling and sufficient for a full meal. Especially with a few hlasses of wine. Highlight has to be the pork liver. The 'entrée' if any one dish could be called the highlight. They change the tasting menu every week. I would go back to try new bits. Third best meal I've ever had. Second was Baldio in Mexico City and first was Flore in Amsterdam. Pigmeu is better than michelin starred restaurants and is 1/4 the price.
Robb L — Google review
From the moment we stepped inside, we had a feeling we were in for something special, but nothing could have prepared us for the 6-course tasting menu that followed. Each dish that landed on the table was thoughtful and soulful, the kind of food that makes you slow down, take notice, and forget what you were saying mid-bite. There was creativity, yes, but also a deep understanding of flavor and balance. The result? A truly elevated culinary experience. Our lovely server guided us through each course with warmth and confidence, pairing the menu perfectly with a bottle of Nicolau de Almeida Ronfe 2023 VINHO BRANCO, a wine so vibrant and nuanced, we’re still thinking about it days later. Pigmeu doesn’t just serve food, it tells stories. Quietly confident, deeply soulful stories told through pork in all its inventive forms, local produce elevated without ego, and flavors that make you pause mid-sentence. Lisbon’s culinary scene is bursting, but Pigmeu is that rare spot where you leave feeling not just full… but grateful.

Cura, located at the Four Seasons Hotel Ritz in Lisbon, recently earned its first Michelin Star. Despite opening during the pandemic, Chef Pedro Penas Bastos and his team successfully met high expectations. Known for curating the best Portuguese products, Cura focuses on skillful curatorship to create artisanal dishes with depth and meaning.
A highly refined menu expertly prepared. Flavor and presentation were infinitely close to perfection. The iberico pork, in particular, was the best iberico pork I had ever had. Service was first class, and atmosphere was luxurious yet relaxed. The local wine pairing was superb, and gave us a taste of what Portuguese wine had to offer. All in all in line with what one expects at a Michelin one star restaurant. If I were to be picky, however, like so many Michelin starred restaurants, the food was a bit too safe. I feel that the Michelin star system discourages creativity, which is a pity for chefs of this caliber.

Amazing dinner experience on our first night in Lisbon. Charming interior without being stuffy. Had a seat facing the kitchen which was very enlightening! The chef came out several times to explain the dishes and philosophy of cooking. Each dish was highly thought out and delicious. It was a wonderful dinner. We can’t wait to come again when we are back in Lisbon.

Located in the Ritz Four Seasons hotel, I chose Cura to celebrate a special occasion and it was an excellent choice. The service was top notch with great attention to detail. Highly knowledgeable staff and very professional. The food blew our expectations away. We picked the 10 course tasting menu and while all of the items were very good, the seafood stood out for us. Especially the scarlet prawn and amberjack dishes. Those were phenomenal. Many dishes had unique complex flavours that were well balanced and each time it made us excited for the next dish. Overall, this was a night to remember and I highly recommend this to those seeking a unique culinary experience or celebrating a special occasion!

We dinned at Cura at the Four Seasons Hotel in Lisbon on a Thursday night, we went for the Percurso tasting menu prepared by the talented chef Rodolfo Lavrador and his team. We weren’t disappointed! The food was nothing short of magnificent: each plate struck the perfect balance between creativity and respect for Portuguese culinary traditions. The dishes felt both rooted in heritage and refreshingly inventive, with thoughtful touches that elevated familiar flavors into something extraordinary. One of the first standout moments was the Oyster. It looked simple, but the flavors were anything but! Paired with cherry, cinnamon, and just a touch of horseradish. The balance was perfect: fresh, sweet, slightly spicy, and deeply flavorful. The cherry in particular struck me, because it instantly reminded me of an Armenian dish I grew up with, Gerasov “Fishna” Kebab (grilled minced meat with cherries), which also plays with that sweet-and-savory combination. From there, the feast unfolded dish after dish, each more impressive than the last. Highlights included the squid paired with bago de arroz bean, elderflower, and kombu, a wonderfully nuanced combination of land and sea. The scarlet shrimp, prepared in the traditional açorda style, carried deep, comforting flavors that paid homage to Portugal’s culinary soul. The Iberian pork with figs and endives was a triumph, rich and succulent, yet balanced with a delicate touch of bitterness and sweetness. Having dinned at Lisbon’s many Michelin starred restaurants (Alma, Belcanto, Eleven etc.) we can confidently say that Cura holds its own at the very top. In fact, it may just be one of the city’s very best.

We stayed at the Four Seasons and dined at Cura during our visit. Having tried several Michelin-starred restaurants in Lisbon — including some with two stars — as well as a few of the city’s trendiest dining spots, we can confidently say Cura was the best of them all. We had the five-course tasting menu with Portuguese wine pairing, and each glass complemented the dishes beautifully — even in the more unexpected combinations, like fish served with red wine. The balance was flawless, and every course felt thoughtful and harmonious. We were genuinely impressed and pleasantly surprised by the entire experience. Cura exceeded all expectations, and we would absolutely return the next time we’re in Lisbon.

Excellent restaurant! Very well located, next to the Four Seasons Hotel in Lisbon. The tasting menu is delicious, and I opted for the wine pairing with excellent options and extremely attentive service from the winemaker. Chef Rodolfo Lavrador was at the restaurant, came to the table to serve one of the dishes and then invited me to see the kitchen. Both he and the entire staff were extremely efficient and friendly!

We’ve spent the past year eating our way across the globe, from Michelin-starred temples in Tokyo to Italian fine dining legends, yet CURA in Lisbon completely stole the show. Without question, it was the best meal we’ve had all year, and easily the finest dining experience in Lisbon. From the moment we were seated, the evening unfolded like a perfectly orchestrated symphony. The wait staff moved with quiet precision and grace, anticipating every need before we even realized we had one. Plates arrived in flawless rhythm, wine pairings poured with a storyteller’s touch, and each dish was introduced with genuine passion and pride. The entire experience was a masterclass in hospitality, warm, polished, and utterly seamless. The Journey tasting menu was a tour of flavor, texture, and imagination. Every course felt like its own revelation, inventive yet deeply rooted in Portuguese identity. The tomato, watermelon, and aubergine dish was a burst of summer on the palate, balancing sweetness, acidity, and earthiness with incredible finesse. The amberjack with cucumber, cockles, and wasabi was elegant and daring, evoking both the ocean and the garden in perfect harmony. The squid with elderflower and kombu was ethereal, delicate, and quietly mesmerizing. Then came the wreckfish with Oscietra caviar and bell peppers, a masterwork of balance, both luxurious and restrained. The Iberian pork with fig and finger lime was an unforgettable marriage of richness and brightness, the kind of dish that demands a moment of silence after each bite. Even the desserts were pure genius, from the pine and pine nut to the coffee and thyme, every bite managed to surprise, comfort, and delight all at once. One of the highlights of the evening was the drink pairing. I chose the international wine pairing, which was superbly selected and beautifully matched. My wife opted for the nonalcoholic pairing, and it was nothing short of spectacular, each drink creative, complex, and perfectly tuned to the flavors of the dish it accompanied. I found myself honestly jealous more than once as her pairing outshone even my wines. It was a brilliant showcase of thoughtfulness and innovation rarely seen at this level. Though Executive Chef Rodolfo Lavrador was not in the house that evening, his vision was alive in every plate. Sous Chef Marina Garcia led the kitchen with artistry and precision, delivering a menu that felt personal, confident, and inspired. At the end of the meal, we were even invited into the kitchen to meet the team and have our picture taken with them! CURA is not just a restaurant; it’s an experience. Every detail, from the timing of the courses to the arc of the menu, reflects passion and perfection. If you are lucky enough to visit Lisbon, do not miss CURA.

An elegant restaurant inside the Four Seasons. There are only two menus to choose from. The dishes are extremely elaborate, but the portions are very small. I don't think I received more than 150 grams of food in total. The flavors are relatively indecipherable. The chef personally presents some dishes. Obviously, it's extremely expensive. I wasn't impressed.

Nat'elier is a concept store dedicated to the iconic Portuguese pastry, pastel de nata. Located in Belem, it offers a modern twist on the traditional egg tart while celebrating its cultural significance. The store features an array of innovative flavors including cheesecake, Oreo, apple cinnamon, white chocolate macadamia, and tiramisu. Additionally, they offer a delightful vegan version of the original tarts.
Thank you for teaching this baker a new pastry! What fun. Would highly recommend this class; I saw others in non-bakeries - and I have to say: this was it for me! Thank you Sylvia! Very hands on, small class and there is NOTHING like a warm pasteis de nata from the oven paired with a coffee. Ohhhh yeah! (I added a pic of the retail storefront, the baking class is behind the staircase)

Our Pastel de Nata masterclass was fantastic, suitable for even beginners. Sergio explained everything step by step and gave so many useful tips on how we can make these amazing pastel de natas at home! We got to make them on every step. Thank you so much! We enjoyed eating them afterwards too!!

We stopped by this lovely café for some pastéis de nata and it was such a treat! We tried the original, crème brûlée, tiramisu, and Dubai chocolate flavours. Each one was absolutely delicious and beautifully made, with the perfect mix of crisp pastry and creamy filling. Our waiter, Miguel, was so kind, warm, and attentive. He made the experience even better with his friendly smile and great service. Such a charming spot to enjoy a little moment of sweetness in the day. Highly recommend! 💛

Educational, Entertaining, and Yummy! The Pastel de Nata Masterclass at Nat’elier was a real treat - literally! Our chef, Sergio, gave step-by-step instructions that a beginner could follow, but with color commentary that a bit more experienced bakers like me found really interesting to learn. Over the two-hour class - that felt like half that time - we all got to make the puff pastry (my first time), custard, use the molds to form the crust, and filled them with the custard before baking. Then, of course, the eating! Wonderful, flaky puff pastry and that gorgeous custard. Definitely two thumbs way up for Nat’elier and Sergio!

Sergio was a fantastic instructor, guiding our group of twelve through every step of making the perfect Pastei de Nata at the Real Bakery. He provided clear instructions, helpful tips, and all the tools we needed to craft these delicious Portuguese custard tarts from scratch. We each took part in mixing the ingredients - carefully measuring the flour, sugar, 2% milk, eggs, pinch of salt, cinnamon sticks and lemon rind. Sergio shared advice on how to enhance the flavor and achieve the ideal baking temperature. Kneading the dough on the cool marble counter , dusting with flour was an essential and satisfying part of the process. Filling the tins and watching our pastries bake filled the room with anticipation - and when they came out golden and crisp, the first bite was pure joy. Each of us made three Pasteis de Nata to take home ( unless of course you couldn’t resist eating them on the spot!). To top it off, we received a certificate of recognition and a select drink of our choice to enjoy with our freshly baked creations. Sergio also emails everyone the full recipe and detailed steps to create the magic at home. If your in Lisbon don’t miss this class.

Took a pastel de nata masterclass yesterday and had the best time with our instructor, Adrianno! He was patient, kind and very entertaining. Our class was a class of 8 people all coming from around the world. It was so much fun we made beautiful pastel which would only be possible ofc through Adrianos guidance. The place had a proper area for the classes and was over all a beautiful cafe.

We participated to the Pastel Cooking Class, given by Sergei. It was a very hands-on experience, and we got the opportunity to make and taste our own pastels from start to bottom. Would definitely recommend if you are curious to discover how those famous pastries are made. You can bring home what you don't eat 😉

Nestled in the vibrant Rua Garrett, Castro is a charming little bakery that has quickly made a name for itself as a custard tart haven since its opening in early 2022. Specializing exclusively in pastel de natas, this delightful spot offers an authentic experience where you can watch skilled chefs craft these delectable treats through clear kitchen panels. The pastries are celebrated for their perfectly balanced sweetness and flaky, almost salty crusts—always served warm to enhance their flavor.
Recommended by our hotel & did not disappoint. Lots of little dishes are presented & charged if you use. We only had the olives which were superb. My friend has a steak with Portuguese sauce. Mine pork with bacon & mushrooms. Both had lots of delicious buttery sauce. We ordered extra potato which was even nicer than the included shoestring fries. We both drank huge glasses of sangria. A little sweet but delicious nonetheless. Wonderful relaxed but attentive service. Sitting outside on a warm afternoon was heaven. Definitely recommend

English Version (for Google Review) I visited Lisbon alone on a trip and had a meal at this restaurant. I decided to write this review because I experienced something unpleasant that I cannot forget. I started my meal around 9:00 PM. The man who took my order was very kind, and both the food and wine were delicious. At first, I was satisfied and enjoying my time. As the restaurant was getting close to closing, I asked for the bill. He told me “later” and brought me a glass of wine. Then he invited me to go drinking together with “everyone.” However, in the end, the other staff left, and I was alone with him. He said he was the owner, poured himself some wine, and after the other staff left, while I went to the bathroom, he turned off the restaurant lights, played music, and asked me to dance. He then told me he wanted to kiss me. I noticed he was wearing a wedding ring and asked if he was married, but he claimed it was a keepsake from his father. I refused all his advances and also declined to leave together. After that, he finally brought me the bill. I paid and took an Uber back. His behavior was sexual harassment, and I believe he was also lying. Because this unpleasant experience has stayed with me, I decided to write about it here.

Cool place tucked away in Bairro Alto. Great service. I got the highly recommended beef steak Portugese style. Slightly overcooked but maybe it’s also because I asked for medium well. Sauce and egg and garlic on top all tasted great. Very full! My friends are the grilled sardines which were in season. Good price too.

Antonia Petiscos Portugeses is a charming neighborhood eatery located in Bairro Alto, Lisbon. The restaurant offers a delightful selection of traditional Portuguese dishes, including chourico and bacalhau. The menu features an array of seafood such as octopus, sardines, and cod, complemented by vegetable dishes, bean stews, meats like pork sausages, and an assortment of cheeses.
AMAZING! Staff were incredibly kind and accommodating to fit a table of 5 in last minute. The place is definitely small but they made it work! We got the chorizo and shrimp to start and both were good but the chorizo was exceptional! We also the the ribeye steak, the seared tuna and the mussels and it all was amazing! Would definitely recommend and would come back if ever in Lisbon again!

This is a small local place at the Bairro Alto quarter. We had cod and sardines. Both plates come with potatoes and the sardines come with a small salad. The taste was average, nothing special. It’s a reasonable local place if nothing else catches your attention. The service was good and friendly and atmosphere is cozy.

Food was very nice. Grilled octopus was huge and good(I think the trick was that they made cuts in octopus before grill so it tastes more cocked). Octopus in rice was also good. Overall fine place. Easy to make a reservation using application the fork. Overall nice experience. Cannot tell about rest of food, but what we ate was very nice.

A great little place near Praca de Luis Camoes plaza. The cod fish was great. I liked that it was lightly pan fried then topped with cooked pepper and onion. What surprised me, delighted, was the octopus salad. It had chopped chunky octopus and chopped fresh green and red peppers which added great and nice balance. The peppers are sweet in taste, complimenting the octopus marinated in lemon juice. Service was nice too. I definitely recommend to give it a try.

Came to Lisbon on a solo trip and was looking for something quiet and quaint with authentic Portuguese food. I came at 1145 pm and even though they closed at 12 am they still served me. I got the sardines on tomato sauce and grilled octopus. Both were spectacular . I’ve never tasted octopus. It was so tender. Additionally, the service was also very good, and the waitress was very attentive.

This is a little spot in Barrio Alto that we popped into for dinner. The food left a bit to be desired but the service was lovely. We had the local cheese plate, roasted cod and steak. The cheese plate could use a bit more to it given the price. The outer crust on the cod was quite tough and rubbery and the entire meal sat in a pool of oil. The steak was decent but not cooked to the requested medium rare temperature. They offer a fair selection of wine as well.
Andrea R — Google review
I was thinking it might be a local restaurant due to its location. Reservation is not necessary, which is nice. However, with Rihanna's "Work Work Work" playing inside, it's as local as one can get. The rice with octopus was below average. For a true Portuguese restaurant experience, I recommend looking elsewhere.

Armaha restaurant in Lisbon, Portugal is a hidden gem that offers delicious Portuguese cuisine. The menu features a variety of bacalhau dishes, including the popular bacalhau no forno. The restaurant provides a cozy and welcoming atmosphere with friendly service. Guests can enjoy generous portions and affordable prices, making it an ideal spot for families or groups looking to share plates family-style. Additionally, Armaha offers English-speaking staff and serves refreshing sangria.
We had the fish and seafood platters on two different days. Both were awesome. You may ask to change fries for seafood platter to rice and grilled potatoes. The rice was very nice. Together with potatoes, they go very well with the fish and seafood. The serving is enough for 3 persons. The waitress (Indian) was very friendly. They were even ready with a phone charger for customer; helpful when my phone battery was flat.

A charming, unpretentious family-run restaurant serving authentic Portuguese food at very reasonable prices. This was my second visit, and I tried the grilled seafood platter — it didn’t disappoint. Small restaurant serving delicious Portuguese cuisine. Some had the sardines, others had the ceasar salad (ok, that one’s not typical ;) ), some (including me) had the vegetable some. I also had the rice omelette (as a main) and shared a cheese plate (as a starter). Everything was great. And the rice that came with the omelette was probably the best tasting rice i ever had 😋The lady is super friendly and accommodating. It’s off the touristy restaurants streets, but a real treat!

Parreirinha de Alfama is a charming Portuguese restaurant in the heart of Alfama, offering generous portions of traditional cuisine and live Fado performances. The cozy establishment, dating back to 1950, exudes a rustic charm with its unchanged interior and vibrant azulejos adorning the walls.
A lovely restaurant with authentic feel which is also one of the oldest fado houses in Lisbon. The food was delicious and portions were ample - there’s a fixed price of 65 EUR which includes an appetiser, a main dish and desert, drinks are not included. Our server was very attentive and made us feel like being welcomed by a friend. The fado show was magical - once the lights got dimmed, you could hear this amazing art in its purest form. I would definitely recommend and make sure you stay until the end.

Tourist trap, overpriced. We paid 156 euro for 2 people (food fixed price 65eur/person and all drinks paid extra, including tap water for 3euro.. The fado was great but its 1.5h of mediocre food then 3 amazing songs and 1h of mediocre deserts and again 3 fantastic songs and probably after 1h of overpriced drinks there would be another 3 songs but we left. If I could make this choice again I would go to amazing local restaurant and then to fado concert - seperately.

Great Fado night in a traditional setting. Better to reserve in advance. The fixed menu includes starter, choice of fish, meat or chicken, and dessert, but drinks are separate. Big thanks to the staff, especially Sónia, for her warm hospitality. The Fado singers were wonderful and made the evening very special.

Parreirinha de Alfama is a beautiful collision of food, music, and memory. Come hungry, come curious, and let the saudade (Portuguese melancholy) of Fado wash over you between bites. It’s a slow-burning emotional journey through Lisbon’s soul. A must for anyone who wants to feel — not just visit — Alfama. 🎶🍷🇵🇹

Great ambiance for good food and Fado music. The baked cheese and salad appetizers were delicious as well as the seabass w veggies and the vegetarian eggplant (low salt). The rice pudding dessert was yummy but the chestnut pudding had a coconut cream with very salty sprinkles of something that was a bit shocking to the tongue. But the chestnut muffin itself was a very nice delicate taste. The music was mesmerizing but would have loved to have a brief understanding of each song prior to the performance in order to appreciate the sentiment more. Overall a great place and centrally located. Music, food + wine and tip was under € 80 per person. Music, food only €65 per person.

I loved and will forever recommed this place. Food is absolutely fantastic. There are also plenty of options if you don’t have fish or meat. My waitress Sonia was the kindest of my whole trip to Portugal. The fadistas, including Bruno Costa who runs the place marvellously and plays guitar, are superb. I was lucky to hear one of fado’s legends. A moving and delicious night at Parrerinha de Alfama I will treasure for a lifetime.

Food products supplier
Nestled in the heart of Lisbon's Baixa district, Conserveira de Lisboa is a charming family-owned grocery store that has been delighting visitors since 1930. This iconic shop specializes in beautifully packaged canned seafood, particularly its renowned sardines and tuna. As you step inside, you'll be transported back to the delightful ambiance of the 1930s, with colorful tins lining every wall and whimsical stuffed sardines hanging from the ceiling—perfect for capturing children's imaginations.
A canned fish shop that opened in 1930 and has a wide variety of canned fish! If you don‘t know what to choose, you can ask the staff to introduce and recommend! Canned food is quite delicious! The store is small, so the stay time is very short. You can quickly line up in your itinerary, buy some cans or take some photos, which is a place you can skip.

A great place to buy souvenirs and canned fish. The staff members were nice; they would introduce the products to customers. It’s pretty crowded as many people shop there.
Karen C — Google review
I must give it five even six stars! Absolutely the best canned product stores in Lisbon! Eleven years ago, I visited here and bought several types of cans including sardines, moules, cavala, etc. They use vintage, distinctive paper and carefully tied ropes to wrap gifts, making both giving and receiving a joyful experience. This September, I visited Lisbon again, and also visited the store. The store maintains a consistently vintage and minimalist atmosphere just like eleven years ago. The products, the packaging as always. I really really recommend every tourist come here and bring the most wonderful gifts for yourself and your friends when you come to Lisbon!
Chris K — Google review
The shopping experience was not exactly smooth because the shop provides zero product translations and when asked about the information of different fish cans the owner answered super briefly and you would feel pressured to find out on your own and decide as soon as possible.

Go here if you want to bring back some tinned fish back home whether as a gift or for yourself. They have the best prices for the quality that you can get (2-5 euros each depending on the variety. They got sardines, tuna, cod, anchovies and more! Besides grocery stores, everywhere else has insane prices. The staff are friendly here and will explain to you the varieties. Be ready for a line up though!

My husband loved visiting this store. You can tell they have been around for a long time and for a reason. They started canning seafood in Lisbon. Very affordable with cute packaging. They also pack well for transport. We saw it in a Somebody Feed Phil episode & since we Filipinos love sardines too, we needed take some home to enjoy in CH. The sardines are bigger than what we are used to but it’s canned fresh which is the most important part. A great thing to take home from Portugal if you have the weight allowance. The variety is phenomenal.

I have been trying to have the full on Portuguese experience that I have been living in Lisbon for over two years now. So I asked a Portuguese friend of mine to recommend a Tasca that’s value for money but has great food. Well my friend didn’t let me down! This place was great. No thrills but the local husband wife combo (service and chef) made my time here a great one. A true Portuguese gem! 🇵🇹✨ Here, you’ll taste the real Portugal. Fantastic traditional food in a small, cozy, family-run restaurant. The kind of place with real soul that’s hard to find these days. If you’re looking for authentic, home-style dishes made with love in a warm and welcoming atmosphere at an unbeatable price, this is the place to go. The sardines are simply the best I’ve ever had, and the feijoada is one of the finest in all of Portugal! Sr. Duarte and his wife, Dona Alda, run the restaurant entirely on their own, they’re truly wonderful people who make you feel like part of the family. And be understanding and patient if you have to wait for your food, the couple runs the restaurant by themselves and truly does their best. If you’re in Lisbon, don’t miss this genuine experience. Obrigado Sr. Duarte e Dona Alda❤️

Beautiful old Portuguese restaurant, very plesant owner. The baked sardines were an absolutely great gourmet experience. I highly recommend visiting this restaurant.

Local spot run by an older couple. We dined during lunch at a busy time and were told there was no more fish, and only chicken on the menu. The chicken was just very okay and came with two scoops of rice. The gentleman gave us bread which we didn’t ask for and then charged us for the bread AND butter. Overall the experience is of a local one but the food and service are not great.

Portuguese restaurant
Nestled away from the bustling tourist hotspots, O Poleiro has been a cherished gem of traditional Portuguese cuisine since 1985. This restaurant prides itself on its innovative approach to classic dishes while staying true to the essence of Portuguese flavors, emphasizing high-quality ingredients and aromatic herbs. The ambiance is charmingly classic and impeccably clean, making it an inviting spot for a delightful dinner.
In a parallel to the main avenue in Entrecampos, this small restaurant is a true oasis and the classic experience starts with the discrete bell on the door to enter the cosy ambiance with high style table decor, a traditional menu with an extensive wine list and exceptionally careful service. I entered slightly before lunch without a booking and with little time and was lucky that Mateus quickly organised a space for me and immediately served the couvert with delicious azeitonas galegas, a large serving of freshly made and very tasty arroz de polvo with two excellent types of chilli and water for only €30 and I was back on the road very satisfied just 30min later. This is a rare place to truly treasure and be back often.

My plane got cancelled, leaving me having to figure out food and shelter. In this situation I thought I would give myself a little present: and this restaurant certainly lived up to that! The atmosphere is great, and the food is exquisite. I had the Cod a Lagareiro

Beautiful cozy restaurant with amazing food. We went 2 nights because the food was. Excellent service. Quiet location.

Amazing local Portuguese restaurant next to the Estação Entrecampos metro station on the yellow line. Location wise it’s very nice for a local dinner. We went for the 1503 “salt-cod cakes” as an entree, and then we took 44 “grilled gilthead bream with potatoes and broccoli” and 23 “fried shrimps with bean rice and salad” with water/white wine. Photos with the food and menu from today 18/11/2022 attached. I also like the interior design, very classic and also very clean. Overall a very nice experience while in Lisbon, I highly recommend it A+. Just don’t forget to book it in advance, since it’s most of the time fully booked.

I was visiting Lisbon during a time that restaurants in this area were extremely busy. Most were unable to provide reservations but this one made accommodations. Their customer service was excellent and the food was great. They also have a nice wine selection to choose from. The restaurant is quaint and very inviting. Definitely a must do.

My hotel recommended this place. I was a bit hesitant to go since this was their only recommendation and they insisted on calling to make me a reservation and gave me a hotel stamped card to give upon arrival (clearly the hotel was getting something!). I played along and my wife and I were not disappointed. The wild mushrooms were delicious, though not enough salt for my wife. The cuttlefish rice was phenomenal, and the the pumpkin coconut desert was surprisingly tasty. For the entrecampos area definitely worth the visit.

Nice, quiet and delicious Portuguese cuisine. Ordered a grilled sea bream and a bacalhau rice dish where both were great and delicious. The waiter was friendly and attentive which made the dining experience fantastic. Did I also mention that the portions were huge?

Piri-Piri chicken is a popular grilled dish in Portugal, known for its distinctive chili glaze. It can be found in many restaurants and churrasqueiras, where you can choose between a whole or half chicken with or without the spicy sauce. The piri-piri pepper, which gives the dish its heat, originates from Portugal's former African colonies like Mozambique and Angola. There are specialized restaurants that offer dishes featuring this famous pepper.
Finally an authentic Portuguese restaurant in the center of town. The menu is in many languages, but the wait staff are local and the food is what you would expect a local to have at dinner. I had beef in port sauce served with homemade fries and white rice and bread to soak up the sauce. Delicious and for under 15€ including coffee.

After trying the viral/popular chicken places in Lisbon, I think this place tops them! The flavours were authentic, flavourful, tasty and packed a punch (if you choose to get spicy)! A lovely man served us! And you just know the food is going to be good when there’s a random customer sitting in a corner on his Acer laptop surfing the internet! 🤣
Shimona R — Google review
Oh my word!! The fish (we called them smelt in Canada) were AMAZING!! Light and delicately fried, but not at all over-cooked, so the meat just fell off the bones. Picture attached to prove. Just absolutely wonderful. Random place, at the end of a trolly ride. Perfect.
Matthew D — Google review
The food was authentic purtogese. The pri pri sauce was really good, spicy and hot. The staff was friendly and everything seems to be prepared when ordered which was nice. You may come here for a good local cusisne experience by the city center
Mahmood A — Google review
Terrible experience. Would not recommend to anyone. Let’s start with the food — it was just awful. The potatoes were undercooked. The sea bass we ordered was completely burnt — black, dry, and tasteless, like charcoal. The salad looked like someone hastily chopped it up at home — two sad tomato slices, some grated carrot, and a pile of bland leaves. No oil, no seasoning, no dressing whatsoever. We also ordered mussels — what they brought us was a joke. So tiny, they barely measured a centimeter. Honestly, we thought it was either a mistake or a bad joke. The service was downright unacceptable. The waiter looked annoyed from the moment we walked in, never smiled, and acted like he just wanted us to leave as quickly as possible. Food took around 40 minutes to arrive — with no apology or explanation. And the worst part? The bill. It included items we never ordered: bread, spreads, butter, and olives. We assumed it was a complimentary starter, as often happens in Portugal — but they charged us €1–3 for every single item. When we said we hadn’t ordered it, we were completely ignored and handed the final bill. Bottom line: poorly cooked food, rude service, and a sneaky attempt to overcharge us. Avoid at all costs.
Vladyslav L — Google review
Wanted to kick off my Lisbon food journey with piri-piri chicken. I went for the Chacoal grilled chicken while my friend ordered the famous Bacalhau com Natas (Codfish in Cream). The chicken was delicious, though I was secretly expecting it to be marinated in piri-piri sauce before grilling, blame the YouTube recipe videos I binged before coming. Instead, the piri-piri arrives on the side. Friendly warning: it’s not for the faint of heart. That sauce packs serious heat, so approach it like a dare. Portion-wise, the chicken seems to be on the small side. Tip for fellow meat lovers: don’t be shy, just order the whole bird, you’ll handle it, no problem. The codfish was also tasty, creamy, and comforting, so sharing bites felt like winning the dinner lottery. The service was genuinely friendly, and I liked that the room was buzzing with both locals and tourists. Always a good sign. One note: mains aren’t huge, so grabbing a starter is a smart move. Prices are fair compared to other Lisbon restaurants, so your wallet won’t cry. Overall, tasty food, cozy vibes, and spicy sauce that deserves its own warning label.

A nice neighborhood restaurant with reasonable prices, excellent beer on tap
Martin H — Google review
Chicken was ok but quite dry and not much meat on the bone. Some pieces were nearly all bone. Be careful of the plate of breads/cheeses they give after you order. They charge you for each piece you touched individually and also there was a service charge added on top. What seemed like reasonable prices from the menu came out to be much more with all the additional charges.

Imperial de Campo de Ourique, also known as 'Tasca do Joao', is a charming restaurant in Lisbon run by a family from the Minho region of Portugal. The friendly owner, Joao Gomes, brings his wife's fantastic cooking skills to the city, offering generous portions of traditional Portuguese dishes like lamprey and shad fish during the season. The restaurant is also renowned for its cozido, feijoada, and dobrada.
Amazing spot! The food was absolutely delicious; real, authentic homemade Portuguese dishes full of flavor. The hospitality was just as memorable. The older host, despite a bit of a language barrier, kindly guided us not only through the menu but also showed us how to properly enjoy the dishes. Both the food and the warm welcome made for a truly special experience. It’s a perfect place if you want something authentic and a break from the more touristic spots. Will definitely stop by again next time I’m in Lisbon.

This was the best meal I’ve ever had in Lisbon. The traditional Portuguese food was simple yet perfect and the owners were supremely accommodating. I cannot wait to go on my next visit!
Louis A — Google review
Visited twice on a very time limited trip. Totally recommend for authentic old school Portugese food served as if you are dining with your own family (if you have a kind family that's interested in the taste of the food that they serve you).
Tricia C — Google review
This is one of the best tascas in Lisbon. The food is spectacular, from the famous chanfana (a stew of tender goat meat simmered in an insanely delicious sauce) to the seasonal sardines. The bolo de bolacha is also fantastic. It’s a towering slice, layered with cream instead of butter, so you feel like you can get away with eating another. Another highight about this place is the heartwarming hospitality provided by Sr. João and his family. They were so incredibly friendly when I dined here last year and, when I returned again this year, not only did they remember me but offered me a glass of wine on the house. It’s no wonder this place is so beloved by Lisboetas.

This place is absolutely perfect! As a chef of 25 years I can say that I had one of the best things I have ever ate here. It is simple, honest and amazing cooking. The service is perfect and everything about the restaurant is great l. Can’t wait to come back every time I’m in Lisbon.

Wow, such an amazing local place. As often, it is a family business. And I have to say it is really a treat Food is just outstanding. You should try beef stew and beef costeleta. Also house wine ( white) is great. I will come back here again if I am in the area:)

What a treat! Charming hole in the wall. Fresh grilled sardines were perfection and João has such a palpable zest for life that even though I don’t speak Portuguese, I felt like I was in a family member’s kitchen. Ginja to close the meal was a perfect finishing touch. Highly recommend!

Miguel Castro e Silva is a Michelin starred chef from Porto, Portugal who has brought his unique style of cooking to Time Out Market Lisbon. His menu includes dishes like bacalhau a bras, which is braised cod with potatoes and onions. This restaurant is perfect for al fresco lunch on a warm summer day.
The time out food market is very touristy, I haven’t seen any locals there. That said, I think it is still an opportunity to try amazing food for an affordable price. I had the sausage rice with braised pork and it was divine. Highly recommend! On a Tuesday, after 12:30, it was hard, but not impossible to find a table for 2+ people.

I had a meal at Miguel Castro e Silva in the Time Out Market, and overall, the food was good. The ingredients were fresh, and the flavors were well-balanced. I was expecting a bit more of a "wow" factor, but it was still an enjoyable meal. The convenience of the market setting makes it a great spot to grab a quality bite while exploring other food options.

Got the Bacalhau À Bras. The timeout market is incredibly busy, it took a good 15 to 20 minutes before the food was ready. Considering this place was located in the market, it was actually pretty decent.

Eating at the busy Time Out Market is a fun experience, as long as you can find seating. This is a busy market with many food vendors. We chose Miguel Castro e Silva and had the Bachlau a Bras, which was incredible. I wasn’t sure exactly what I was ordering other than knowing it was codfish. Was very pleased with the presentation and exquisite flavor. I think this is this vendors specialty. Would definitely eat her again and order the same.

O Caldo Verde is a local favorite in Lisbon, offering some of the best steak in town alongside a variety of traditional Portuguese dishes. The star of the menu is the namesake dish, Caldo Verde, a creamy and nutritious kale soup that has become a comfort meal for locals. This charming spot provides an authentic dining experience without the tourist crowds, with generous service and amazing food at great value.
We came here for the festival and it was fenomenal!!! One of the best stakemin town, €25 but for big enough for two. Sardines were super tasty. The staff was very plesent 😀

If you want amazing food, above-and-beyond service, and a local experience without the crowds of tourists, definitely come to this charming spot. Locally owned in a fantastic location, the restaurant is perfectly situated. Service was generous, genuine and kind. The food was absolutely amazing for the value, we are full and so glad we ate here. out of all the restaurants that were recommended to us, this was by FAR our favorite. Come have a beautiful Portuguese dining experience at O Caldo Verde!
Mehmet G — Google review
Went there last night with my girlfriend, I am Portuguese, and when i looked at the menu and at the pictures online, it looked just like most Portuguese places. Unfortunately the quality of the food was simply bad, looked like a typical case of a restaurant who is trying to save money by cutting down on the quality, the service was okay but very chaotic, to add salt to the injury out of the 10 items only 3 were available. The house wine was also out of stock, and it seemed like they just went to the supermarket next door to buy the food once the costumers order. In my opinion, the worst thing was that they charge you 4€ for a cheese, although u only get a couple of slices. In total, we paid 34€ which is not a lot, but to be honest, all of it was worth a maximum of 25€. In my opinion, the restaurant has a lot of history and potential, but due to the lack of quality and bad service, the restaurant is doomed to fail. When going to a Portuguese restaurant, the quality of ingredients should be the main concern , especially if you are changing those prices. Would not recommend until they change their service and food standards

Fiesta experience eating outdoors with live festive music. Grilled Sardines with boiled potatoes was simply cooked but was delicious. Huge crowds came on a Saturday night, so come early to get seats
Doctor J — Google review
The soup was delicious. We also got a weird fish potato dish that I didn’t care for, but I’m sure that others would like it. Leaving three stars because the waitress gave us bread and butter that we didn’t ask for and then charged us €7. When I explained that we didn’t order it, she apologized and lowered the price slightly. It’s not the money that’s annoying - it’s that they’re trying to take advantage of tourists by charging for what should be complementary items. I also saw them bringing boxes of frozen food into the kitchen. Suspicious.

O Frade is a small, intimate restaurant that offers a unique dining experience. With seating for just 18 people inside and additional outdoor dining, it provides an opportunity to interact with the chefs and fellow diners. The semi-circular seating arrangement adds to the intimate atmosphere. The restaurant's popularity has led to the opening of a second outpost in the Time Out market. Guests have praised the outstanding food and top-tier service, as well as the fresh bread and delicious menu options, including vegetarian dishes.
The duck rice was phenomenal!. So much duck! 2 of us split a portion and it was plenty. (Okay, we had an appetizer of crispy pork sandwich at a different Time Out booth.) Highly recommend. Staff was very attentive.

We really enjoyed the meal! Service was very good, happy to pay the optional service charge. Food was really tasty (we had the cheese and bread for starters, then the chicken and octopus for mains). You will pay more for the seating area, but we were happy to do this rather than look for somewhere in the busy market.
Frances N — Google review
The Duck Rice tasted with quite a heavy taste of wine, could not really differentiate the meat. Texture of the rice was nice though. The cod fish with potato relied mostly on the sauce. The turnip on the side was quite hard to chew. I would not recommend these 2 dishes as a must-try.
Kero C — Google review
We came to O Frade for dinner on a busy Saturday night. We had Rabbit Coentrada, Duck Rice, Black Pork Cheek with Oven Rice and some Couvert items. Overall, the food was very tasty and the portions were fair but, perhaps a little bit more oily and pricey than it should. The staff were diligent and the service was correct.

I had an amazing meal here. The food was outstanding and the service was top tier. The super nice and attentive Asian lady (sorry don't remember her name) was my server and she was amazing. She spoke several languages and managed to be super nice even to the rather rude and demanding French group who were seated next to me. The bread here was super fresh and delicious. I had the escabeche duck for a starter and it was super tasty. My server recommended the ox tail and it was delicious. It was the first time I have had ox tail that wasn't on the bone. I had the encharcada for dessert and it was very nice.

Rei do Bacalhau, a renowned produce market in Lisbon, offers an array of delightful Portuguese dishes centered around the beloved ingredient bacalhau. Alongside this salted cod, olive oil takes center stage as a favored component among the Portuguese. Combining these two elements results in well-established and versatile dishes that grace tables throughout the year, from casual weekday lunches to festive celebrations like Christmas Eve supper.
This store offers authentic Portuguese delicacies. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. They serve the best Pastel de Bacalhau we've ever tasted, and we found ourselves returning for more. Their recommendation for a Porto was spot-on. We'll definitely be visiting again next time we're in Lisbon.

Best deal in town! Find this place and ENJOY! Just some walks away from the main tourist area. If you want an authentic pairing of Pastel de Bacalhau and Port, this is the place. Original recipe - no cheese and NOT dry. Also no tricks. Just straightforward Portuguese goodness. For 4.50EUR, you get the set compared to the "famous" one from the main tourist area that charges 18.50EUR for a glass of Port and 6EUR for the Pastel de Bacalhau. You can get the Port and other Portuguese alcohols here, too.
