I was very happy that I could visit and try the coffee here with my classmates before leaving Leipzig. This is the best coffee shop in Germany I think with lots of history and nice vibe. Cannot recommend enough!!!

Great food, don’t pay attention that it’s a tourist place, you can actually eat delicious food here, at least while their current chef is at place. My respect to that particular person— the chef - all the dishes were fresh and exquisite. Once more, I never expected that, but please keep it as long as possible!

A quaint place, beautifully renovated inside (including a museum and showrooms, with coffee tables set as in the good old days). There is in- and outdoor seating. Service can get overwhelmed by many customers – the area is as busy and touristy as it will get in Leipzig. Hence not exactly quiet, and lots of commotion outside. It's worth a visit for the historic flair, notably within. The prices are commensurate with the location. A decent place in terms of coffee and cake.

A very poor experience when we visited one evening whilst in Leipzig, resulting is us quickly leaving. When entering there was no welcome or attempt by the young staff members to engage with ourselves or any of the other customers. We found a table and menus however could not order as the staff were too busy watching videos on their phones behind the counter. A massive shame and disappointing experience.

I tried my first Leipziger Lerche at Handwerksbäckerei & Café Kleinert - Brühl which is a self service Café. When you eat this dessert, which looks like a small tart, the only thing you taste is almond paste - even though it has a little cherry jam in it. Since it consists of a dense almond paste, one is enough. I ordered cappucino with this dessert. My favorite part of cappicuno is the foam on top, but this coffee was not very foamy and I found it a little bitter. Apart from this, when you look inside the cafe, you see tables placed in long corridors. Don't just be fooled by this, there is also a cute little garden section at the back. The employees are also friendly. I don't know if I would choose it again because of the coffee, but I might just grab my dessert and leave.

After a stroll through town, we decided to stop for a quick indulgence — and this café, with its tempting pastry display, drew us in. We ordered a slice of the house specialty and one of the nougat cake, accompanied by a cup of tea and a coffee. The house cake was excellent — well-balanced, creamy, with a subtle sweetness that didn’t try too hard. The nougat cake tasted just fine, but it arrived broken into two pieces, and this was simply ignored when served. At these prices, one would expect more care and attention to detail — especially when it comes to presentation. The drinks were decent — nothing remarkable, but they did their job. What left more of an impression, though, was the service. While one or two staff members were pleasant enough, most of them moved and spoke with the kind of energy that made you feel like placing a second order was an inconvenience. There was a noticeable lack of warmth. The interior leans into a French-inspired aesthetic, which could be charming — but the space felt a bit cramped and overfilled. With some thoughtful adjustments, it could become far more inviting. That said, if you’re here strictly for the cake, you’ll be just fine. But if you’re expecting a memorable café experience from start to finish, you may leave wishing for a bit more hospitality and a little less attitude.

We had a Kaffee Riquet, an Elefantenkaffee, a Leipziger lerche, a Bach Torte, and a Wiener Torte. To be honest, we found the drinks and cakes underwhelming. The only thing that we could say we loved was the Leipziger Lerche. The two kinds of coffee were “interesting” to taste, but do not expect them to taste like modern day coffee. Anyway, we went there, well aware of the value of Cafe Riquet as a place of history. It didn’t surprise us that the food didn’t meet our expectation. We went there mainly to experience the taste and the ambiance of the past.

I was sat immediately at a table by a window today, with my dog. Busy staff but professional and attentive. The “maracuja” cake looked good but barely tasted of passion fruit. I paid 10 Euros for fresh mint tea and cake which I found reasonable. I didn’t stay long though as it was busy.

i’ve bought one donut for around 2,75€. i’m used to sugary meals/drinks but that was something else. i’ve bought the unicorn donut and of course i thought it’s gonna be sweet but the amount of sugar in it really shocked me, it didn’t even taste that good. it was just a waste of money. also the “staff” (more like one lady working there) was kinda rude and was just on her phone even while talking to me. this is just an extra information it has nothing to do with my review but if is closed eventhough they are supposed to be open, the lady is going somewhere into the staff room - give her 5-10 minutes and she’ll return.
