Nature & Parks
The Japanese Friendship Garden, nestled in the heart of Kelley Park, offers a tranquil escape from the urban hustle. This 5.5-acre oasis is a symbol of peace and friendship between San Jose and Okayama. Modeled after Okayama's renowned Koraku-en garden, it boasts traditional Japanese architecture, including a charming red arch bridge and a serene koi pond.
While waiting for our baseball game to start, we wandered over to the City of San Jose Japanese Friendship Garden to see what it was like inside. It was peaceful and has wonderful old garden features. Many of the water features are now dry but it is still very lovely. There is one pond left with coy and water plants. There is a tea room available for events that looked lovely and perfect for small gatherings. I would recommend taking a stroll through this historic garden park. I’m glad we did.
Denica F — Google review
I was excited to bring my baby to celebrate her turning 10 months at a park I hear has amazing cherry blossoms. A park said to represent the friendship of the sister cities our San Jose and Okayama Japan. Well it seems the friendship needs a little attention. First of the ponds have no water except the one in the back with the coy and seemingly booty water. I love the look and peaceful decor throughout the park and house on site looks like a space for meditation or something. Highlight definitely was seeing a family of ducks and little chicks. So cute I have never seen this up close in real life and when I inched closer to get a photo the mom or dad looked at me with their eyes warning me of a parents dedication and protection and I let them be. Lowlight was that I pulled my daughter in a wagon and I would not say it is wheelchair friendly park because I dangerously had to pull her in her carriage up a hill. Thank god she was buckled in or she would have tumbled out. Parking lot on site and the pay station was broken so it was free. I did change the spot where I parked initially because there was a troublesome lady drinking a 40 in the parking lot so I moved close to a bus that was parked there and I figured he would see or deter any funny business. Overall a great day and experience and I will be back again in hopes of water in the ponds and to look at all the beautiful flowers.
Katrina J — Google review
Some of the water in lakes is already dried out and only a small portion still has water. It's a small loop and only takes around 20 min to walk. There are very few people around and the park is pretty quiet. Good for a relaxing walk after visiting the zoo nearby!
Yirui Z — Google review
The park is lovely for a walk and relax. However, the pond near the red bridge and a huge turtle stoned was dry and seemed a bit neglected. Once you get to the koi pond, though, you can really see the beauty of the place - the koi are huge and the color are beautiful. There's also a Japanese-style house, which was closed during our visit, but the surrounding park area offers plenty of space with BBQ pits and seating, perfect for gathering or a quiet afternoon outdoors. Dogs are not allowed.
Jovan K — Google review
Such a gorgeous garden, it's definitely worth a visit! I was disappointed to see that most of the water features were drained, although there is an intact kou pond in the back. There's a lovely tea house that was closed up when I was there, with some bamboo around it. Very peaceful and pretty. I hope they fill the water features again one day!
Sarah N — Google review
Still in need of major repairs, only one pond left with some of the original coy fish 🐠. 2018 San Jose city flood wiped out the pumping system for the ponds. Very few visitors when we were there.
Rob H — Google review
What a dump this place was. $6 for dried ponds, graffiti garbage cans, and caution tape. Hopefully, they'll use the money they collect for upkeep because that was truly a sad experience.
Paul — Google review
This garden was once beautiful. The trees and paths are still magnificent. The website doesn't mention that 2/3 ponds have been drained, and the third is quite green. But, also, we're were not charged for entry. There was no place to pay. This place must have been magnificent once.

The San Jose Municipal Rose Garden is a stunning 5.5-acre garden featuring over 180 varieties of roses that bloom from April to November. The garden is adorned with a fountain and offers a picturesque setting with California redwoods mingling among the 3,500 plantings. It has been recognized as America's Best Rose Garden by the American Rose Society.
The Municipal Rose Garden is a lovely little park nestled in the city. Although it’s not very large, it’s filled with a wide variety of colorful roses that make it feel vibrant and peaceful. 🌷🌺 Even on weekdays, you’ll see many people strolling through the garden, enjoying the flowers, taking photos, or having a relaxing picnic on the grass. 🧺📸 It’s a peaceful and scenic spot that’s definitely worth a visit, whether you’re a flower lover or just looking for a calm escape in the city. 💖
Ernestwang — Google review
This place is beautiful and really clean. The roses are at the end of its bloom but still really pretty. Many areas to take photos. We saw a lot of people sitting on the lawn having a picnic. Very quiet park and located in a very fancy neighborhood.
Izzy H — Google review
Multiple varieties of colorful roses plus a central fountain, some shady spots for picnicing, an open green space, and restrooms! Loved wandering through and smelling the flowers. There's plenty of street parking around the perimeter of the garden. Be aware the garden does host events. During my Saturday visit around 1pm, some staff were walking around notifying those who were seated under the trees in the green space that event staff would be arriving in the next hour to start setting up for a wedding and that we would need to move.
Michelle B — Google review
Beautiful rose garden with an amazing variety of roses and long blooming season, usually peaking in late spring but lasting well into summer and fall. Free to the public, well-maintained, and a peaceful spot to stroll, relax, or take photos. A true San Jose gem!
Liyan — Google review
This striking Garden has been one of the best tose gardens. The roses are in several areas around the fountain. I found unique roses including the ketchup and mustard rose and several others there are bushes with red roses. White roses, yellow roses and multicolor roses. The park has several redwoods I. The center and large open fields for picnics and informal games and running around The park is enclosed by a high fence. An accessible wimens restroom sits at one gate and the mens accessible restroom is at the other gate. Free accessible street parallel parking. Pay phone by women’s restrooms
Toni T — Google review
I am strolling along sipping on my chocolate milkshake, and I smelled this sweet essence in the air while I wait at a traffic light to cross the street. To my surprise I happen to walk along a street with a rose garden. The bonus is it is free to visit. It was a beautiful Autumn day to stroll, meditate, people watch, and enjoy the blooms. How lovely!
Lyn A — Google review
A really lovely garden filled with beautiful roses! I visited just before summer, so some plants were already past their peak bloom, but it was still such a charming and peaceful place. It’s a great spot for a morning or afternoon stroll, with picnic areas where you can relax and enjoy the view.
BA — Google review
This is actually the second time I visit this garden. It splits into two sections where the first half is the rose garden and the second half is a picnic area. It was quiet today compared to my last visit, but I took plentiful of pictures. It’s also very hot since it’s Summer now, which is why I didn’t want to stay here for too long. You can also host events in this garden. During my last visit, someone held a graduation party or ceremony and it was really loud. I guess it gets quiet because either it’s not Saturday or no one held an event. There weren’t many people at the picnic area because most people came here for the garden. Also it’s really hot now. Of course people will go to the shade.

Almaden Quicksilver County Park, located in San Jose, is a historic site with a mining background that now offers outdoor activities. The 135-year-old park spans over 4,100 acres and features panoramic views, wildflowers, and remnants of the 19th-century mining operation. With over 37 miles of trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding, it's an ideal destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
It was a beautiful morning for hiking. We met people on the trail but it was not crowded. We took the counter clockwise loop, which gets steep downhill. Not too difficult but knees get a good workout. Otherwise the is clean and wide. There is plenty of parking in the lot. The views from the top are beautiful.

Excellent county park. The trails r well-maintained. Many of the trails are paved and quite wide. There are trails for all levels. There are a mix of shaded and exposed trails. Some nice open views.
Shamrock W — Google review
MAJOR TICK ALERT!!!! Went back to hike and came home with a tick attached to my ankle and an hour later another one crawling out of my hamper. ____________________________ A very nice park with multiple entrances and lots of trails. Some trails are bike friendly and all trails are dog -friendly (on leash). Enjoy the views and the refreshing air.
Zsuzsanna S — Google review
A beautiful spot for a morning hike! As an outdoor lover, I really enjoyed being surrounded by nature with friends and family. It was my first visit, and although some trails were quite hilly, I managed to finish the hike comfortably, even in running shoes, which I thought would be fine. I’ll definitely be back with proper trail shoes next time!
Rebecca W — Google review
Had a really nice morning hike here with my uncle! It’s a relatively easy trail with several rest areas and optional detours if you’re up for more of a challenge. We were lucky to have perfect weather and only a few people around when we went. The views were lovely too! Such a great outdoor activity option in the area.
BA — Google review
We were looking for wildflowers and found 1 of the trail here has beautiful wildflowers view so came straight here. This is very beautiful place (even though we didn't get to see wildflowers, I think we missed the correct trail). There are a few trails here in the woods (easy to moderate) but all are so beautiful and trees everywhere. We were here for an hour or two. We will definitely visit again. The parking lot is huge and free parking and entry.
Aditya J — Google review
Awesome place to hike!!! Trails are a bit difficult for beginners (especially Deep Gulch Trail). Plenty of history and cool things to see!!!

I was in for a awakening with this place. Was invited from a church group to hike here with few people yet it was cut short then expected. So I went back to continue from where we had left off and DAMN!!! Awesome views of the Guadalupe reservoir, lot of nice shots of the creeks and the trails are really something. It kicked my ass! Ahaha longest trail to take and most I've had to endure trailing along. The sights are really awesome!!

Alum Rock Park, located in San Jose, California, is the state's oldest municipal park dating back to 1872. It offers 13 miles of scenic hiking and biking trails, mineral springs, picnic areas, playgrounds, and a small museum. The park is known for its wildlife sightings and group camping opportunities. Alum Rock Park was once a health spa due to its 27 natural mineral springs that are still present today.
Very accessible Nature area that is close to but feels far from city streets. Easy-going, family-friendly stroll along a shady canyon & burbling stream, with lots of steeper trail options alongside for further adventure. Plenty of parking deeper into the canyon. Lots of reservable picnic areas, & restrooms. The Youth Science Institute is a cute little visit with a collection of taxidermy birds & live tortoises for the kids. Exploring the historical ruins is poignant & fascinating.

Visited during the daytime, Alum Rock Park is a beautiful and peaceful natural retreat in San Jose. It’s an excellent spot for a picnic—you can carry packed food and enjoy it amidst the greenery. The trails are well-maintained, and the atmosphere is calm and refreshing. Parking facilities are very good, with ample space available. Highly recommended for a relaxed outdoor experience!

A Beautiful Natural Escape Right in San Jose! Alum Rock Park is a hidden gem for nature lovers and hikers in the heart of San Jose. The park offers stunning scenery, well-maintained trails, and a peaceful atmosphere that makes it perfect for everything from a quick walk to a full-day hike. The wildlife is active (especially in the early mornings), and there are plenty of shaded areas for rest and picnicking. The trails vary in difficulty, so whether you're a beginner or an experienced hiker, there's something here for you. The views from the top of the Eagle Rock trail are worth the climb! Also, the natural rock formations and historic mineral springs give the park a unique character. Parking is generally available, though it can get crowded on weekends. There are restrooms, picnic areas, and signage to help guide you through the trail network. Highly recommend this park if you're looking for a quick nature escape without leaving the city!

Alum Rock Park is such a beautiful place to explore. The scenery is stunning, with plenty of hiking trails for all levels, from easy walks to more challenging climbs. I really enjoy how peaceful and green it feels, and there’s so much wildlife to see along the way. It’s a perfect spot to connect with nature, get some fresh air, and take in amazing views—definitely one of the gems of San Jose.
Aga O — Google review
This is a very wonderful park. It covers hiking routes from simple to challenging. There is beautiful scenery along the way, whether simple or challenging. The place we climb most often is Eagle Rock. You can frequently see many eagles circling in the sky when the weather is good. You can also see eagles flying to the cliff when you reach Eagle Rock. Their nest is on the cliff, but my neck isn't long enough to see it.
WL L — Google review
I Enjoyed this place. Hiking experience seemed worth it , best thing about this place is where ever you stop you will find a spellbinding nature view . Make sure if you just came for top view not hiking take your car to the parking closer to the peak
Prince R — Google review
I have been going to Alum Rock Park for over 35 years. It is my sanctuary. I run into people that I see daily: the regulars. It is an absolute gem that San Jose has hidden in the East foothills. I was walking yesterday and I ran into a gentleman that was busy cleaning, Izaiz Barrera. I learned that he’s a supervisor for Conservation Corps. I asked him if they could clean up a place that becomes very dangerously slippery with the fallen leaves and morning dew. he walked with me so that I could show him exactly what I was talking about. He affirmed that they would take care of it. He was extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and hard-working. It was an absolute joy to see someone work with diligence and dedication the park that I love and have had the privilege of enjoying whenever possible I have gone through a lot of medical adversities as well as the loss of my mother and Alum Rock has gotten me through it all. I would like to ask the city or whatever agency responsible to continue with the clean up. It was wonderful to see the cleanup going on however, the park needs continuous maintenance. In addition to my asking that the continuous clean up happens, What can I do to help actualize this effort? Finally, Thank you Conservation Corps for the young hard workers you provide, especially for the training and the fruit of their labor which we, San Jose residents get to enjoy. great use of our tax dollars! Nestled in East San Jose, Emma Prusch Farm Park spans an impressive 43.5 acres and serves as a vibrant tribute to the region's agricultural heritage. Established in 1962 through the generous donation of Emma Prusch, this park is more than just green space; it’s a living history museum that features the largest preserved barn in San Jose, which supports local youth programs like 4-H and Future Farmers of America.
A beautiful family-friendly park right in the city. There are goats and turkey in the stable, free roaming chicken, fruit trees, playgrounds, picnic areas, etc., all in one place. The parking and entry are free. Emma Prusch left behind this legacy for the well-being of San Jose residents, and it truly serves the purpose.

Nice playground, ample parking in the late afternoon evening. Could see how the parking could be packed. There are two playground structures which my kids enjoyed. They're not super large and can be crowded. The day I went it was luckily not too crowded and enough space for all the kids to enjoy. The farm was closed already. I could see it being a nice experience for the kids.

Great playground. They also have a petting zoo inside lots of animals, goats, turkeys, bakes chickens. They also have picnic area and birthday party area. Nice Park for kids. Ample parking. Google text you to a wrong close door. Just turn around and go on Kings road. The entrance is right there

I’ve always seen the red barn from the 280/101 on ramp, but never went to the park. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the park is maintained. They have a state of the art playground, a rare tree orchard, live chickens running around, and the grass is greener than most parks in the South Bay. Good place to let the kids burn off some steam.
Sebastian T — Google review
Very nice playgrounds for toddlers mostly for three the age of 3 to 10 Defam itself is a nice theme, there is some farm animals Definitely not enough shade for the playground area, especially in the summer. Avoid it. My kids love tractors and there is at least two here so he Enjoy it

One of the best parks in the area so far for experiencing some level of farm life with chickens walking around. Nice kids park with farm concept. Also historical houses and barn is available to see. Great big green area with beautiful mountain view at the back.

Great farm/park to take the kids on a nice day. They have some animals to see and nice play grounds. Also some big open fields to play on with yours kids. Just wish the publice bathrooms near the play ground were cleaner for the kids to use. Some of the sinks didnt work. the bathrooms were a little on the dirty side. We also did arrive at 830am. But we still enjoyed our time.

Kelley Park in San Jose, California is a sprawling urban park that offers a blend of historical and recreational attractions. The park's History San Jose complex provides an immersive experience into the region's past, featuring 32 preserved or replicated buildings from the early 20th century. Visitors can stroll through this living museum to gain insight into life before the tech boom.
Always a great experience. Free entrance except for special events. Volunteers throughout the park. Train / tram museum, you can ride a tram a short way through the park for free, and small San José items on display inside the old hotel. You can walk through some of the old homes. The small parking lot in front is free. Rear parking lot next to the Japanese Friendship Gardens is $6. A small visitor center and San Jose gift shop is located inside the old hotel.

Childhood memory for my kiddos wish all the rides where available but with short staff only a couple where available most animals have died so kids didn't get to see the main animals, looked super sad all the animals nothing felt alive like before 😔 the last time we here here was 8 years ago. Children still had fun we had our picnic but wish the wild life was updated and remodeled.
Erica C — Google review
As a nearby resident, I finally visited this park today and wondered why I hadn’t come sooner. The grounds are impeccably clean, very safe, and beautifully maintained. Dogs on leashes are welcome, and admission to both the main park and the Japanese garden is free. Although I was initially hesitant because of concerns about safety but rangers patrol the entire area to ensure everyone’s safety—and I didn’t encounter a single issue. I highly recommend this spot for a lovely walk or a family picnic.
Ruchita U — Google review
As of June 2025, the structure and vestiges of landscaping are still there, making it a pleasant park to meditate or take a stroll in. But if you’re looking for the exquisite beauty of a meticulously kept Japanese garden, it’s not here anymore. Word has it that Koi fish thieves and a flood did a lot of damage and sufficient funds haven’t been acquired to restore it.
Benjamin ( — Google review
The place is beautiful, with lots of family parties or friends gathering. I did see a minimal amount of homeless, but they do have park rangers patrolling some areas. We got a nice spot under the trees even in the hottest day they have a massive amount of trees to keep you cool, bathrooms are my biggest compliment they are not maintained well at all other then that a good place for a walk or a family party.
Jose A — Google review
Long line and long wait for some of the rides and face painting. The playground was fun, fast fun slides!

Very quiet, serene place to visit in San Jose area. A small pond filled with big gold fish with various color fish swimming around just waiting to be fed. There is a little kiosk machine where you can buy some fish food to feed the fish. There are some walking paths around the park where you can stroll at your own pace. It's a great family outing place to visit.

Beautiful park to go play disc golf in. Lots of squirrels, and a fat hawk flying around. Great par 3 disc course, not to hard, good for beginners and for veterans. Multiple tees depe depending on your skill set. This park has a great playground and next to the historical park. Nice place to visit.

The trails are clearly marked, but they can get a bit muddy after rains. Benches are scattered around the scenic spots. The best time to visit is in April. Since the trail is completely exposed, April is not that hot. Also you can see a lot of wild flowers, even Poppy. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash. Kids friendly hike

Love coming to this place! So quiet and serene. Dog friendly is a big plus. Not everyone has their dogs with them The trail I go on is coyote peak and ridge trail. That’s about 3.5 mile loop trail Lots of trail options. A good amount of parking even on weekends. Very good view of the city as well. Especially if you go to the top point on some of the trails, you get a 360 view

Several trail options in a conveniently located county park with sweeping views of the South Bay. Trails are generally easy to moderate difficulty.

Good jogging/hiking trails. Been my park for over 50 years. Looking SW, the low grassy hills are RanchoSan Vicente/Calaro.The woody hills behind that is Almaden QuickSilver Park

Very nice park. I think the best time to visit is in mid April. Since the trail is completely exposed, April is not that hot. Also you can see a lot of wild flowers, even Poppy. The vista loop is a must stop where you can have a great view of South San Jose.

Very nice hiking trails provide a good workout challenge. I was there about a week after the heavy rains in January 2023 so there was still a lot of water/mud on some portions of the trail that I was on. Very nice view and there was a nice little waterfall that added to the charm.

Almaden Lake Park is a stunning 65-acre recreational area centered around a picturesque 32-acre lake. It's a popular spot for seasonal fishing, with opportunities to rent pedal boats during the summer months. The park also features bocce courts, hiking trails, and a seasonal concession stand. Visitors can enjoy the scenic Almaden Lake Loop, a paved trail suitable for hikers of all levels.
Nice park around the lake for walking, running or just relaxing or having a get together with family or friends. The path around the circumference of the lake is paved, and it also connects to Los Alamitos Creek Trail and Guadalupe River Trail if you are looking for longer runs.

Almaden Lake Park has a lot of potential and some great features. The playground includes an impressive, all-inclusive swing setup that’s accessible for both kids and adults. However, the only slide is practically unreachable. To use the slide you must climb a rope structure 20 feet up, which proved unsafe and challenging—even for my athletic 9 year old. It seems better suited for older kids, likely around 10 and up, and there isn’t much for younger children or toddlers to enjoy. That said, the park’s setting by the lake is beautiful. We enjoyed watching geese and ducklings pass by, which added a peaceful touch to our visit. Just a heads-up: this lake has an algae that makes it closed to entering the water. This makes me even more worried with the edge of the lake looking a bit unsafe in spots, so it’s best to keep a close eye on kids and little ones near the water. With a few updates, this park could be an incredible family destination.

What a GREAT park. I have to revisit it again when there isn't a water lantern festival. But from what I see it's definitely an awesome park and my son and I can explore. I saw some kids with fishing poles... I'd like to teach my son how to fish. I'll be back with another review of Almaden Lake Park.

What a gem for the community. Almaden Lake Park is a little oasis in this increasingly digital (all?) world we’re living in. My mom lives within two miles of this park, so I’ve taken her here for nice walks and picnics. I’ve been here over the years for the fishing - when catching fish is not really the goal. It’s very nice to take a bit of fresh air around beautiful scenery, ducks and geese, kids playing on the several playgrounds, people exercising, couples spending time together, families enjoying the MANY picnic areas (there’s more than you could imagine), people trail “hiking,” people playing bocci ball on the bocci ball courts(!), and more. There’s so much going on at any time, yet it is somehow tranquil. You can have the experience you need with every visit - at the same place. The nicest thing is that you feel miles away from the throngs of white Teslas that start lining up and clogging the roads for rush hour around 3pm, yet you are mere minutes away from Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s. We can all use a break - from work, clients, WiFi, city sounds, traffic, etc. - and this place has the amenities and scenery to give you that chance to unwind…without driving for hours to get there if you live or visit the South San Jose area.

Parking is kind of expensive. I’m not supposed to pay when I bring disabled clients but there is no way of telling anyone and I don’t want a ticket. It’s always clean and pleasant to take a walk around the lake. There is a play area for children and longer trails for those who want a longer walk.

Nestled in the heart of San Jose, Happy Hollow Park & Zoo is a delightful 16-acre destination that combines the thrill of an amusement park with the wonder of a zoo. Since its opening in 1961, it has been a beloved spot for families and young animal enthusiasts alike. Visitors can explore an impressive array of animals from around the globe, including playful lemurs, curious meerkats, and even a majestic male jaguar named Kianto.
Took my 4-year-old daughter to Happy Hollow yesterday and we had such a blast! This place really hits the sweet spot for families with young kids. The zoo portion was definitely the highlight for us. My daughter was absolutely mesmerized by the lemurs, we probably stood there for 20 minutes just watching them play and swim around. The farm animals were a huge hit too, especially the goats that she could pet and feed. The staff was super patient with all the excited kids asking a million questions. What I love about this place is that it's not overwhelming like some of the bigger attractions. It's the perfect size for little legs and short attention spans. The rides are gentle and age-appropriate we went on the little train probably four times! The carousel was beautiful and my daughter felt so grown up riding by herself. The playground areas are well-maintained and there are plenty of shaded spots for parents to sit and watch. Plus the admission price is really reasonable compared to other family attractions in the Bay Area. We ended up staying almost the entire day, which never happens with my preschooler! She's already asking when we can go back. Definitely found our new favorite weekend spot. If you have kids under 8, this place is absolutely worth the trip to San Jose!

This is a very unique zoo. We absolutely loved it! It has a lot of rides especially for young ages and has a lot of entertaining activities. The tickets price is quite decent as well. There is a parking lot across the river and a short walk to the zoo over a bridge. The food in the food court is pretty tasty and priced within reason. There are lots of plants and greenery all the way around which make the zoo even more enjoyable. We loved it and would definitely come back.

A must for little ones. They have a zoo, picnic areas, shows, rides, and a food cafe. My 3 year old loves coming here. They have lots of beautiful play areas and they did renovate a lot of things. Also all the employees from the parking lot, to entrance, guest services, ride operators, and animal keepers were great! Excellent customer service from all.

The overall environment was alright. The capybara was super cute! That said, quite a few animals weren’t there, like the jaguar, red panda, and fennec fox, which was honestly a bit of a letdown... The petting zoo had goats, which were fun to interact with up close. In general, the variety of animals isn’t that big, so if you’re mainly coming to see lots of different animals, it might not be worth it. But if you’ve got little kids, it’s a great spot, since there are plenty of rides and activities for them.
Tina C — Google review
A perfect size park & zoo. Geared more towards under 10; rides, puppet shows, playgrounds, face painting, and small zoo area. The purchased entry ticket gets the kids on rides. Paid parking via machine. Plenty of disabled parking. The rear entrance parking is a bit of a distance from the main entrance so be prepared. Danny the Dragon train was closed for repairs but is scheduled to reopen mide July, 2025. They have amazing helpful staff and an adorable souvenir shop. General Admission: $18. Memberships: Starting at $45 *Summer camps available including overnights at the park *Senior Day (over age 50): Once per month (see City of San Jose). Seniors only enter once per month, 0900-1000, before the general public and can remain for free for the remainder of the day. Free parking for seniors on Senior Day.

Cute zoo with very interesting, uncommon animals, including capybara! Kids friendly. Many tiny entainments for kids and a theater for puppet shows three times a day. The sheep and goats are outside and can interact with guests. Very lovely place for a day trip or half-day trip.

My 4-year-old son really enjoyed all the attractions and carousels! The lines moved quickly, we only waited a couple of minutes for each ride. Great experience overall

This was the first time I've visited with my grandchildren. I used to bring my kids here years ago. The entrance used to be in the front, but the new back entrance has ample parking. I love the new suspension bridge. The price is GREAT!!! To visit for the day it's only $18 a person and children under two enter free. My grandchildren had a great time at the petting zoom and seeing all the different animals. The rides are definitely for younger children. I visited on a Sunday, and it wasn't overly crowded. We didn't have to wait more than 5 min to access each ride. The new trian was still under construction, so we didn't get to do the whole tour. Definitely recommend this place for a cheap, fun experience with younger children!!!

Guadalupe River Park, situated in downtown San Jose, is a charming urban park that spans over 3 miles along the Guadalupe River. It provides an opportunity for city dwellers to immerse themselves in nature without leaving the urban landscape. The park boasts a range of gardens such as a historic orchard, a rose garden with over 2,000 bushes representing more than 150 varieties of roses, and a community garden.
New, clean, free, fun. Just wonderful. When the youngsters grow there will be lots of shade, not alot now.

Decided to walk on this trail, despite the mixed reviews of encampments and trash. While on the trail, around the northern section near Hedding St, an off-leash dog ran out from around a corner and attacked me! It bit my leg, unprovoked and broke the skin. The man who it belonged to (presumably homeless) came after the dog had already bit me twice and got the dog under control. I would consider this trail to be dangerous if you are running/walking, and would not recommend for anyone, unfortunately. Incredibly disappointing that there are no solutions for the hundreds (if not thousands) of people that live along this creek, as it poses a safety risk for community members.

This Guadalupe River Park can definitely use some maintenance!!!! This park is about 120 acre on the banks of the Guadalupe River that stretches along 2.5 miles in the downtown area. It is surrounded by many Tall buildings, various businesses, and many other Historical Shops/Restaurants. A short distance from the popular San Pedro Square Market, Sap Center, Heritage Rose Garden, Discovery Meadow, and Plaza De Cesar Chavez. There are walking Trails, Tennis Courts, bike paths, playgrounds, Shades, Bridges, Benches, Restrooms, and it’s a Dogs-Friendly Environments for the public. I’m sure glad I came here on a perfect peaceful evening where the views are radiants and beautiful!!! A Lovely day right before sunset!!!! I definitely wouldn’t want to be walking around here after dark. Too Creepy!!!!! September11, 2025

By most measures, it wasn’t a pleasant place for a walk. Sadly, there were homeless people on the other side of the road, and the park itself lacked any aesthetic appeal. It felt depressing rather than refreshing :( not pretty at all

A short while ago I tried the running trails at this riverside park and found the paths wellmaintained and clearly marked, which made my workout both efficient and enjoyable. The scenic views along the water added a pleasant backdrop, and the overall layout encouraged a steady pace without feeling crowded. Ill likely return for another run when my schedule permits

Very nice park and great little walk but as others have mentioned there is a bunch of trash and people (assumed to be homeless) lurking about. There are a few birds in the many beautiful trees and TONS of ground squirrels. I ran into a couple of Canadian geese and a type of duck I have never seen before with a long narrow beak.
Webvolutionary — Google review
So I walked the park from the SAP center to Coleman. The park is...It's rather depressing really. I saw: 1 - Numerous homeless/mentally ill people. Someone them ranting, screaming, and urinating in the river. 2 - People doing drugs. Though there were no needles on the ground at least. 3- Completely unkempt landscaping, overgrown all over the place. Trees fallen down everywhere (though it's been a rough winter). Little to no tree cover throughout most of the trail. 4- The trails are poorly connected, especially where they intersect with major roads. Having to trek through the tall grass or walk through questionable lots is not what I'd expect from a city park. Where they do have tunnels they are bleak looking. Overall, it's an adventurous park to trek through and photograph. It's almost interesting to see everything so overgrown and desolate. But, as a marquee park from a city as prominent as San Jose? It's shocking how neglected it is. And the homeless/mentally ill really add a lot of tension to what should be a nice park (it's large at least).
Juan P — Google review
One of the best bike trails in San Jose. The park itself is pretty and features lots of space and courts for tennis and futsal (soccer). Sure, you see homeless in some parts but where else can they go? Overall so much potential for beautification. Despite its issues, it's a truly nice park.

it's a huge park, very beautiful and peaceful. hard to get there, so few people. a small parking lot on 130 near the lake. free, but full. go to the ranger station. lots of parking, $6. take 130 to get there. don't take Qwimby: very narrow, steep, and curves. bring water, sandwiches, suntan lotion, snacks, etc. no stores for many miles. nice lake, but no path around it. the park is best for mountain bikes.

Uncrowded county park in the eastern San Jose foothills. Plenty of trails for all levels, picnic tables, camping, and great historic value can be found here. The drive up is steep and windy but worth the adventure. The drive down is easier and features terrific views of San Jose.

Large park with multiple campsites / picnic areas of various size. Killdeer, California kingsnakes, and other animals can be spotted. Some historical structures are located here, including the house the park's namesake used to spend time in, along with a rose garden. Relatively flat area good for hikes and biking, but limited shade. Recommend you take Quimby road to get here which is less windy than the alternatives.

The Hall's Valley trail is a delightful, relatively flat trail with expansive views of Mt. Hamilton observatory and the verdant ridges. I've seen bobcats on this trail twice before. Today, we saw a group of wild pigs. I also saw what may be a rare sighting of a vermillion flycatcher, hundreds of miles out of range. In my six decades in California, I've never seen this bird! It's definitely worth the trip up the mountain. We hiked starting at 1 on a Thursday and saw no people on the trails - zero!

Alviso Marina County Park, spanning around 20 acres, is a nature haven in the Bay Area. It offers various activities such as hiking, biking, birdwatching, and wildlife sightings within a wildlife refuge. The park's location along the San Francisco Bay provides stunning views of wetlands and hills. Visitors can explore nature trails, observe marshland birds, and enjoy amenities like picnic areas and playgrounds. Additionally, the park features native wildflowers during springtime.
This is a great spot for a weekend walk. Highly recommend starting before 9 AM or after 5 PM, especially during the summer, as it gets pretty hot outside of those times. A full lap usually takes about 2 to 2.5 hours, but parts of the trail are currently under construction, so completing the full loop isn’t possible right now. Also, keep in mind that it is not allowed to walk into the salt pond, I still saw a lot of people do this despite the warning signs standing right in front of their face. This is to keep the land from damage and protect the wildlife and endangered species that inhibit the area.
W H — Google review
This is a beautiful place, very concurred for taking pictures, specially at sunset time. During the time of the year when the water is low, you won’t have the amazing pink/orange water but you’ll be able to capture the salt accumulated and it looks just stunning. The gate and free parking lot close at 6:30 pm, so you have to plan your time. Also, is NOT a pet friendly place, because is a protected area. So don’t take your dog with you.
Ana G — Google review
Not kid friendly and I came on a windy day. Definitely not my favorite park. I do like the street art outside the bathrooms on the wall. Many paths are closed and not much to see or do. I made the best of it an seen wildlife like the lizards and bugs. Basically impromptu photo shoot for my daughter. Minimal parking but it seemed to be just enough. I love how there were droves of bikers taking whatever path down by the red river.not going to lie I got some beautiful landscape photos as well. Worth getting out the house for but not to bring someone else.
Katrina J — Google review
I visited this park recently, and I can’t get over how the salt looked just like snow—totally perfect for snapping pics. The sunset was absolutely stunning, with this amazing orange glow spreading over the white salt that looked like snow. I’ve never seen anything like it before, and watching the colors change was honestly magical. Definitely one of those spots you just have to see in person (and photograph)!
K C — Google review
Great place to enjoy a peaceful walk. Sometimes I just enjoy the beautiful view and breeze, other times I take the longer route and have more of a workout. Oh and at some points of the year the water reduces and the salt solidifies — looks like bonneville salt flats!
Jonathan N — Google review
One of my favorite places to watch the sunset - numerous trails to bike/run/hike around. The salt pond is also so amazing! There is a parking lot, and also street parking outside the park entrance.
Danish — Google review
Nice place for a quick run or biking. Most of the time it's pretty windy and nice, however under the scorching sun it can become quite hot. The only issue is the smell you will occasionally get based on the wind.
Kazi A — Google review
Even though there was hardly any water, it was still very cool to see! There is a small parking lot and some stairs if you go to the side a bit. There is photo opportunities for sure, but only a few. To get down to the pond itself it’s a bit of a “hike” down. Not really a hike but it’s just like a hill you need to be careful going down! Please take caution going down! If there was railing (I understand perhaps not stairs there) but railing to help people at least have something to hold onto to get down. It’s also VERY SMELLY!!!!

A beautiful and spacious park. The place itself is clean and had 2 parks for children to play. We had gone here for a car show/BBQ. A lot of people seem to come here early to save picnic tables for bdays and events. They had huge tennis courts and surprisingly no basketball courts. There was a lot of places to walk and a ton of squirrels. They had one restroom area and was pretty well kept. I haven't been here before if it wasn't for this event, my family and I would've missed out. It's worth checking out and had plenty of parking.

Do you know that the park has a shape of a clef (a musical symbol placed at the beginning of the staff) when looking from above? Hellyer County Park, part of the Santa Clara County regional park system, is a 178-acre green space located in South San Jose. It offers a 15-mile paved trail, picnicking areas, a disc golf course, a dog park, and a velodrome for track cycling events. The family-friendly park also features hiking and biking opportunities as well as a playground for kids.
Easy to access everything. Parking was $6 unless you have a pass. (You can get from any library) Park had a LOT of goose droppings which made it difficult for the kids to play on it. Playgrounds were clean though and kept the kiddos occupied the entire time. They really loved the one feature that spins. The sand area with water is genius! Just wish it was warmer so the kids could've enjoyed it. Bathrooms were clean, just not stocked with toilet paper and seat covers. Made it challenging to say the least. But we figured it out and everyone had a great time. OH! and the park has place to hang a pinata which is fantastic! 🎉🎂

It’s a beautiful and well kept park. I rode my bike through here via Coyote Creek Trail. People enjoy this park every week. It has a good playground, lots of open field, picnic tables, restrooms, and a small lake to fish in. No sports equipment, like basketball courts, but you can play frisbee or soccer or set up a volleyball net. They also have an outdoor velodrome. I think this is one of the more relaxing parks in the South Bay.

Hellyer County Park was the perfect setting for our recent crew outing. We kicked things off with a relaxed lunch under shaded picnic tables near the lake, where ducks wandered by and the breeze kept things cool. The open layout made it easy to spread out, and the calm atmosphere gave us space to catch up without distractions. It’s one of those parks that feels tucked away but still accessible—ideal for lowkey gatherings. After lunch, a few of us hit the paved bike trails that loop around the lake and connect to the Coyote Creek Trail. The paths were smooth and well-maintained, perfect for casual riders and more seasoned cyclists alike. Later in the afternoon, we set up a casual football game on one of the open fields—not competitive, just enough movement to balance out the chill vibe. Between the velodrome energy nearby and the quiet lake views, Hellyer gave us a full day of variety without ever feeling crowded.

Good for wildlife spotting like turkey, woodpecker, hawk, hogs, deer, coyote, fox, bob cat, turtle, duck

It's a nice place to go for a stroll. It's relaxing seeing the little ducks swimming around and having fun. But you know what's NOT FUN. SEEING all the darn kids feeding them Hot Cheetos. I'm appalled that on busy days, there are no park staff patrolling the area to tell people to stop feeding the animals junk food.

After so much of rain in winter 2023, the lake is so beautiful and full of water. Everything is blooming, the trees, plants, even weeds. Many ducks, swans, as well as several ducklings. Greatly maintained down to the clean bathrooms at the dog runs...rangers are friendly and knowledgeable about the area/park. Fyi Park accepts volunteers to help maintain the park. Just a thought......if you ever have free time :)

Sierra Vista Open Space Preserve, located in the eastern foothills of San Jose, offers 1,611 acres of open space for outdoor enthusiasts to explore. The preserve features hiking, biking, and equestrian trails that wind through diverse landscapes with stunning valley views. Visitors can spot native wildlife such as red-tailed hawks, golden eagles, gray foxes, and even mountain lions.
Sierra Vista Open Space Preserve is truly a hidden gem and my favorite sunset spot so far! The views are absolutely breathtaking, with wide-open vistas that stretch for miles, offering a stunning blend of rolling hills and vibrant sky colors as the sun dips below the horizon. The trails are well-maintained and offer a peaceful escape into nature, perfect for a leisurely walk or hike. It's quiet, serene, and the ideal spot to unwind while watching the sky change as the sun sets. Whether you're an avid photographer or just looking for a tranquil retreat, this place never disappoints. Highly recommend it for anyone seeking an unforgettable sunset experience!

Some of the best views of the bay. Lots of trails with elevation changes, but totally worth it. Mornings many times have a heavy blanket of clouds but once the wind picks up, it's 360 panoramic views. Lots of wild birds. Very green in the winter or early spring and burnt out the rest of the year.

This nature preserve I stumbled upon by mistake but will be asking my boyfriend to return durning the sunset. Breathtaking views of San Jose and greater Bay Area. I am a fan now for sure. Apparently there’s great hiking which I My 10 month old daughter and I loved it!!!!! Downside no bathrooms.

“Sierra Vista Open Space is amazing for hiking or mountain biking. The trails are clean, scenic, and great for all levels. You can even connect with Alum Rock Park for an extra level of training and endurance — perfect for anyone looking to push themselves outdoors.”
Sigifredo T — Google review
Gorgeous panoramic views of the Bay Area! I will say the trail that goes down the mountain and back up can be quite strenuous especially for a novice hiker so definitely bring plenty of water and take lots of breaks. There is another trail across the street that is a bit shorter but does not offer the same views. Parking is limited so try to go during non-busy times like weekday evenings.
Autumn C — Google review
Beautiful place for sun set. You can do the trail which is nice and sweet. I would recommend getting here 30 minutes before sunset
Frank B — Google review
It's a great place to chill or hike, it has some amazing views, and the drive to the place (along Felter Road) is super fun. We were able to see horses, goats, cows and llamas along the way! There are some great hiking trails around here where you can get a little bit closer to some animals. This place offers a view of the mountains on one side, the valley and the city of san jose on another side and finally the entire SF bay and the bridges connecting MTV and Fremont on the other side. There might be ticks and snakes on some trails, please read the warning signs and before prepared before entering.

Nestled on the southern edge of San Jose, Calero County Park is a hidden gem that beckons nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike. This expansive park features an array of scenic wooded trails, vibrant wildlife habitats, and a picturesque reservoir perfect for various water sports. With breathtaking views of the Santa Clara Valley, Diablo Range, and Santa Cruz Mountains, it’s an ideal spot for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. The park offers an impressive 8.
Calero Park is a peaceful and scenic spot for hiking, dog walking, or just taking in nature. The trails offer rolling hills, reservoir views, and seasonal wildflowers. It’s usually not too crowded, so it feels like a quiet escape from the city. There’s a mix of easy and moderate trails, so you can go at your own pace. Just a heads up—some areas are currently blackened from a recent controlled burn. It’s part of local fire management, so it’s nothing to worry about, but it’s noticeable in parts of the park. Still, it doesn’t take away from the overall beauty or hike experience. Parking is convenient, restrooms are available, and the open space makes it feel really refreshing. I recommend bringing sun protection and extra water, especially in warmer months. Overall, a great local park with wide-open views and peaceful trails!
Dilay S — Google review
When I was looking at the pictures it was all green and beautiful. once i got to the park there was only black burnt grass and ash for miles ( which isn’t always a bad thing because it’s a control burn site). If you want to come to fish on the lake this is an amazing place! Not the not idle place to hike if you want to have a picnic, or a hike with a view. I would come here when it’s colder so you can dress in cozy, and warm clothes! When the grass grows back this place should be a beautiful wetland spot to go. In the meanwhile this is a good place to collect some: nuts, flowers, and rocks. Always keep exploration nature and wildlife! Remember, always be respectful to nature because it’s their home! 6/10 recommend! 🩷☺️☀️⛰️

A pleasant drive from Santa Clara to this state park in Morgan Hill. The roads leading to the park are well-maintained, and the signage and parking are clear and convenient. We enjoyed a peaceful, quiet, and undisturbed hike over the weekend. It wasn’t crowded when we visited on a Saturday around 3 pm.
Heidi C — Google review
Huge park with a lot of trails. We visited in the spring and everything was nice and green (although not a lot of wild flowers). Before visiting make sure the trails are open - during our visit most of the trail close to the reservoir was closed. The rest of it was quite muddy due to the recent rains. The hill trails were fine though.
Anastasiia B — Google review
I've spent years hiking and exploring the Bay Area's vast trail network, feeling as though I've visited every noteworthy path there is. However, following a recommendation from ChatGPT (yes, I'm a bit of a nerd), I discovered an exceptional trail system that truly wowed me. The breathtaking views and diverse options available are particularly striking in the spring, when the hills are awash with vibrant green hues and clouds drift lazily across the azure sky. Initially, my plan was to tackle a 10-mile loop, but when the final third of the trail was unexpectedly closed, I ended up diverting an additional 3 miles along the reservoir. This unplanned detour was far from disappointing—the views were spectacular. The verdant landscape was the highlight for me, enhanced by the trail's excellent maintenance. A word of caution for summer hikers: the hilltop sections can be quite exposed to the sun, so it's wise to carry plenty of water or start early in the day. Overall, this trail ranges from easy to moderate difficulty, depending on which paths you choose to combine. Springtime, in my experience, is the optimal season for exploration.
Yi L — Google review
Great hiking trail, mostly not shaded, so beware if you go in the summer warmer hours. Lots of gravel bikes as it's perfect if you're riding one, and assisted bikes are allowed too. On foot, at moderate pace, it took me about 3 hours to complete the loop. Within the hike you might bump into cows. Highly recommended 😊

Penitencia Creek County Park is a wide and rolling green space park spanning 38 acres in San Jose, adjacent to the Berryessa Community Center. The park offers gorgeous city views from a mile-long trail that surrounds a small lake, which is shaded by thick palm trees and home to substantial populations of geese. Children's playground areas are available for use by youngsters ages two to 12, with separate play areas offered for younger and older children.
This park has two sections. This section is a little smaller, the other section is a longer trail. Either way, I really love this park!! It's a true nature reserve as opposed to an artificial park. It has benches, tables, tons of grassy area -- it also has a few exercise stations along the path... But don't expect a new playgrounds (you can find that at the park next door)

This park need a little more of loving and tender care. It is a nice park that I can see been used by all kinds people at all time. From young kids riding their tricycles with their parents, young mother with their baby in the stroller, to some elderly ladies walking in group and gossiping away. People with their dogs on leashes of cause, and couple getting their daily walks everyday. Many benches throughout the park also the picnic tables. Lots trees has been planted but many of them are dead already. It is waste of money if there is a budget to plan those trees but not watering them enough for then to survive and grow. It is very sad to see this nice neighborhood park going downhill to the current conditions. I hope city of San Jose can put more resources into it. just wish……

Wow! I've been living in San Jose for 4 Years, and just recently found this little gem hidden in plain sight! Parking is very limited on good weather days. But, if you can time it right or get lucky, the hiking trails is well worth the effort. I ended up parking in a nearby neighborhood and warmed up with a 10 minutes walk to the park. But once I got into the park area, I can instantly feel the impact of changing atmosphere. It's a great place to find my center. I didn't include any photos with my review here because I was capturing the scenery in vivid reality. 😶🫣

Just visited this park with 3 kids (4 year old and 1 year old). A ton of play structures for all age groups. Park itself is super shaded though the play structures are in direct sunlight mid day. Tennis courts, sand volleyball courts and a lot of BBQ picnic tables. Parking was easy I will come back again. The park can get dusty in summer and muddy when it rains. The slides and swings were as clean as the next park. No issues like the other reviewer.

Nestled in West San Jose, Saratoga Creek Park is a delightful one-acre oasis that offers a perfect blend of nature and recreation. This modest park features tree-lined paths, open fields, and ample seating for visitors to relax while soaking up the scenery. Families flock here for its two distinct playgrounds tailored to different age groups—one for toddlers aged two to five and another designed for children up to twelve years old.
It is my lovely dog Wesley favorite park, surrounding by all-years green trees and lawns, friendly people, full-energy yuths, and playful dogs. I feel I'm recharged positive energy every time I spend my dog at the park. Don't mention that a group of people, as a part of the Dance Church, come there every Sunday around late morning to do a free-style dance with a donation base and express themselves with music gracefully.
Nellie W — Google review
Saratoga Creek Park is a multi-purpose park with an enclosed dog park, playground, exercise circuit, and picnic areas with BBQ grills. The playground is well maintained and the bathrooms kept clean. There are open grass areas perfect for kicking or tossing a ball... or imaginative play under a tree. It is not uncommon to find dogs chasing a ball or Frisbee off leash but the practice seems to be limited to well-behaved, trained furkids. The enclosed dog park is used by small to large dogs, and their people mostly pay attention to the interactive play but not everyone is attentive to the potty-breaks their furkids take. There are also people that do not have a clear understanding of normal dog play. The spring rains have a few native wildflowers blooming and showing off their brilliant colors.
Shirl — Google review
Long park that is thin in width. The grass is less maintained, hence the yellow patches and some weeds. But, the walking path is strewn with huge redwood trees, loads of cool shadows. There is a good play area for kids 5-12. The park also has a clean public restroom as well. You'll hear the noise from the Lawrence Expressway, the park is still calming.
Mini R — Google review
I really like this park for what it is, they turned a 50 ft wide strip of land just off the expressway that is probably a 1000 ft long or more. It's got lots of nice trees and a dog park and a couple playgrounds. It does have a tent or two set up in the trees off along side the boarder. The homeless people whom live there seem to be very clean and respectful of those who are there to enjoy the park, essentially by not speaking to others unless spoken to, and by maintaining a low profile. This seems to be the trend for those struggling with similar difficulties in the West San Jose area.
Josh M — Google review
A nice park along the Lawrence expressway in the West San Jose area, lots of tall trees that provide shade, a long walkway with benches along the way. There is a clean dog park on the southern end of the park

This is a Dog Park. If you like dogs you are going to love it here. Dogs are well behaved and get along with each other.
Rajnish K — Google review
Dogs dogs everywhere, in the fenced area, out in the open. All well behaved on and off the leash. My doggo loves to walk and explore more these days, so I walk him here, going all the way to the adjacent park for a longer walk, and while coming back towards the dog park, he likes to run around with other dogs for a while. Lost one star because of not so well behaved dog owners. As this park is getting more popular, I see more people not picking up after their dogs 🤢 even though the park has very environment friendly poop scoopers inside and outside the enclosed area.

The big grass area is what I like most. There is also a kids playground, a picknick area....etc. something for everyone. This is a nice family friendly park. If you don't like dogs you probably won't like Ryland Park. Dog owners have doggy play dates on the grass around 4:30pm. We always pick up the poop. There is a horrible dog park under 87 and across the street that is a cage with a sandbase. Unlike Ryland Park it is always filled with dog poop.

One of the best parks in San Jose. The bridge covered with vines creates this beautiful urban scenery. There’s a dog park with a colorful mural painted, nice area for picnics with grills, pool next to the playgrounds and a large grass lawn. Los Paseos Park is a public park in San Jose, California, that offers a decomposed granite track as well as several large grassy fields that are commonly used for baseball, soccer, and softball games. The park also has four lighted tennis courts available for visitor use.
Los Paseos Park is really a big park. Have one playground for the kids with the swings tables and chairs. And have lots of table and chairs with the barbecue grills for the picnics. The park have a couple playgrounds for the soccer’s and have a really large or filled to walk, run your dog. Really nice park to walk and run in for the picnic.

This is a nice community park. It's next to a school and I've always felt safe here. There are almost always a bunch of kids playing on the play equipment, kicking around soccer balls, and just generally being kids. It feels active without being crowded. I enjoy taking my nephews here and watching them make friends. It's also a nice place to jog the track or walk a dog.
Christian G — Google review
I only have been here twice, for a BBQ with my sober friends. Alcohol is not permitted here. The Sheriff does patrol here.

Los Paseos Park is a hidden gem in the South San Jose area and has quickly become one of my favorite spots to go for a run, get some fresh air, or just relax. Lately, I’ve started running laps around the track there, and it’s honestly a great little loop—perfect for jogging, walking, or just getting your steps in. The area is clean, open, and has a chill vibe that makes it easy to stay motivated. The park also has a great space for barbecues, birthday parties, or just hanging out with family and friends. The picnic and grill areas are well-kept and spacious, making it a solid spot to throw a casual get-together. I’ve seen quite a few family parties and community gatherings there, and it always looks like people are having a good time. Depending on the day (I’ll admit, I’m not the best with my weekdays), there are youth soccer games or practice sessions happening, often from what looks like a local academy or club team. I don’t know the name, but they’ve got talent and it’s cool seeing young athletes out there putting in work. It really adds to the community feel of the whole park. One feature I really like is the outdoor bodyweight workout area—it’s similar to a HIIT station or calisthenics setup. You don’t need any fancy equipment—just your body and some drive. You can get in a solid upper body or core workout after your run, which is super convenient. The only reason I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is just because I think it could use a few small improvements—maybe some clearer signage, water refill stations, or better lighting for evening workouts. But nothing major that takes away from the overall experience. Whether you’re looking to run some laps, get in a bodyweight workout, kick back with friends, or just chill at a peaceful local park, Los Paseos Park is definitely worth checking out. Great energy, community-driven, and a solid vibe all around.

Great park! I use the track to walk and bike on from time to time. It's pretty well maintained and the facilities in general are pretty clean. They have table areas that can rented out for parties. They also have a few tennis courts at the back of the park.

Families will appreciate the two distinct playgrounds designed for children up to 12 years old, as well as a seasonal water play area that promises endless fun during warmer months.
25.5 acre park with BBQ pits, bathrooms, and a big field. Decent amount of shade and picnic tables. Beautiful views of the Santa Teresa hills to the south. This park is tucked away in a neighborhood. Plenty of street parking along Andsell Way. Hours are actually sunrise to 1 hour after sunset.

Recently, I had a picnic here with a friend which we sat on the hill the view was great, the environment was clean, and there were bathrooms. I believe theres a dog park nearby and a playground so it’s definitely family oriented. If you want a decent spot to see the sunset here’s one.

On a Thursday in August, I needed to get from Mountain View to San Jose by 6pm, which would have been a traffic-induced nightmare, so decided to go early, sit in this park for a couple of hours, and read a book there. Good choice! The park is nice, open, green, with good views. There's an area with benches under a green canopy, which felt a bit cooler temperature-wise. Saw lots of families with kids walk by and get on the slides and swings in the play area. There are restrooms for public use as well. Parking along the bordering streets was easy to find.
Vipul S — Google review
Have been to the park a couple of times for a picnic from our community. Love the park for all the readily available amenities. The shady area and the benches are a plus point. The fields and the play area for the kids are great. The restrooms are pretty okay to use (though not the best). Was fun to be here while the grass was just here. Gets pretty crowded during the evenings.

Great area to bring your kids or walk the dogs and also has tennis courts. The parking is questionable

Nice location a few kids not really that friendly and the play area for my eight year old wasn't very fun for my son said this park is boring can we go to another one

Quite park. Doesn’t have a parking lot. Has restroom, a nice play structure, plenty of picnic tables and a few bbq spots.
Eran A — Google review
Larger quiet park. Not very busy. Lots of lawn area for hanging out. There are picnic tables and bbqs in one section near the restrooms. Good playground for little kids. I play pick-up soccer here at least weekly. The lawn is mowed infrequently, though.
Patrick ( — Google review
The playground is not well maintained. The sand box is always dirty with trash. Few equipment for kids 2-5. The tennis court is nice but only 4 courts available now. They locked the other 4 courts, even when weekends. It’s almost impossible to find available courts after 6pm. Restroom is always dirty.
Sophie Y — Google review

The park boasts an engaging sandbox area themed around the historic Almaden Quicksilver mines, allowing little ones to dig and explore in a creative setting.
Great fully fenced park for many ages. Water features haven’t worked for years but it’s still a great park for kids!
Chantal B — Google review
Restrooms have been better maintained as of Sept 2024. Neighborhood park that has some issues. Grass area can get extremely muddy when it rains. The bathrooms are often broken or they just forget to unlock them in the morning. The toddler playground is completely fenced in which is good but there is often broken playground features. Can be busy at times.

Good playground. No sand here anymore. So sad.
Ivy W — Google review
Great park for kids of all ages. There is a fenced in area with sand and structures for little ones. For bigger kids there's a rock climbing wall, swings, and other play structures. Lots of paved sidewalks make it great for roller skating and scooters. Library is right next door.
Sonja N — Google review
This has the best sand pit in the area however the water feature has been off at least for two years. It's not very well maintained and there isn't much shade. If you go on a cool day and your child is wanting to implants and this is a good place to go
Senoritaquack — Google review
This is a really nice park to take kids. I don't give it 5 stars because I'm finding it harder for older kids (ten and up) to get excited about the same old same old structures you find at most playgrounds (but I find they will still have fun if you can get a group of them. This park has am enclosed playground for the little ones and a bigger playground for the bigger kids. There a public bathroom and water fountains. No water feature but you're right next to the Almaden community center and library if you want to check out some books.

Its a shame for a community center park to be so fealty and dirty. I wish the city officials would take a serious look at this park and think if they themselves would dare to bring their own kids here!!! Its so sad our neighborhood kids have to play in this park.

We went there on a hot Saturday afternoon to let the kids play with the water features, but at 4pm it was closed, the water was on and everything worked very well but they basically locked up all door so the kids could just admire it from the outside but not enjoying the water games. Looks like a nice park if you live in the area and can walk over, but not worth driving over to visit. Attempted a quick stop for the playground, but the park does not have a dedicated parking lot and the adjacent street is covered with No Parking signs. A hidden gem of a playground for toddlers. With the library next door, you can get books, video and use the bathrooms! Lively and well maintained park with long walking and biking trails, playgrounds for small and older children, with plenty of tables and zones for BBQ and family picnics, large lake and natural beauty. It has a carousel and a train, with concession stand, souvenirs and small free tree library. Wild life is celebrated with numerous boards explaining the natural habits and reminding visitors how to protect the animals and establish proper habits (i.e. why not to feed the animals or to ensure their pets are not left behind). In Dec the park is decorated with Christmas lights.

A sprawling park set around a beautiful lake, ideal for a relaxing picnic, fishing, boating, walking, cycling or jogging! This park is located near the charming town of Los Gatos in California. One can easily drive down inside the park and park your car in the many car parks around the lake. Seating benches, tables and picnic areas are located at convenient places. Drinking water taps at various places adds to the convenience. One can see a number of boats which are available on hire and also people fishing in some areas around the lake. Water birds, especially ducks abound in the lake and there is a bow shaped wooden bridge at one end of the lake and a concrete dam on one end. An ideal place to walk or cycle around the lake on a well made pathway which winds through dense foliage in certain areas. There are hiking trails which take you up the hill amongst the beautiful trees. Dogs on leash are allowed inside the park and porta toilets are seen near the boating area.

A perfect spot to relax, explore, and enjoy the outdoors! Vasona Lake County Park is one of my favorite places in the South Bay. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful walk, a family picnic, or a fun day out with the kids, this park has it all. The lake is beautiful, the trails are well maintained, and there’s so much open space to spread out and enjoy nature. We love renting paddle boats in the summer, and the nearby Billy Jones Wildcat Railroad and carousel at Oak Meadow Park are a huge hit with the kids. There are plenty of picnic areas, clean restrooms, and even a nature center to explore. It can get a bit busy on weekends, so we try to go early or during the week. But overall, it's an amazing park—clean, scenic, and full of things to do. Highly recommend it!

Amazing place to unwind amidst Nature. I don't know how big is this place, but can say this is the largest park I've ever been to for a stroll. The plush lawns and its flowing terrain with the added beauty of a large waterbody fed by a gurgling stream... all amazing. The walk trails along the stream, the toy train tracks, the various venues for picnics and kids play, all make this place a great attraction and fun for people of all ages. I am sure to come here often without fail whenever I happen to be in Bay Area.

The park also features a serene creek for dipping feet in during warmer weather. With multiple play areas for children, Oak Meadow Park is an ideal destination for family outings.
Clean and nice park. It is a perfect location to relax and enjoy the good weather after a classic week load in the Bay Area. It is a great chance to spend time with your kids and teach the how to respect nature. You can have the opportunity to have a nice pick-nick with your family. There are clean restrooms and playgrounds everywhere. Parking is available but you need to pay. It is also nice to walk around the entire reservoir area and enjoy the horizon. Many people come here for Christmas pictures card or wedding.

Definitely the number one playground for toddlers in all of the area of San Jose Los Gatos, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale.... A lot of playground area for toddlers for adults. A lot of shade, even some nature. My kid love vehicles. So there is a train model. There is a car model and even an airplane :) * Unlike previous images, nowadays there is a fence that you cannot reach the airplane and it's forbidden. So FYI

Excellent park with a variety of engaging activities for kids including a train ride in the meadows, a carousel and a play ground. Hosts reserved and non-reserved picnic areas and nice playground structures. The park is adjoining the beautiful Vasona Lake county park in Los Gatos. The price for train is reasonable at $3 per person but is set to increase starting 2024. The last train ticket is booked at 3 PM, so plan your day accordingly. Has some wait time to board.

Oak Meadow Park is a 12-acre park in Los Gatos, California, adjacent to Vasona Lake County Park. Originally, the land was part of the Rancho Rinconada de Los Gatos, a Mexican land grant from 1840. In the 1940s, locals called the area the “sewer farm,” likely due to its undeveloped state or proximity to Los Gatos Creek. The park opened in 1958, developed in stages to serve the growing Los Gatos community. It was designed as a family-friendly space with open fields, picnic areas, and a playground. The park has a retired T-33A “T-Bird” jet trainer, a highlight for kids. A vintage fire truck and wooden train are also available to stimulate your children’s imaginations. The park’s location along Los Gatos Creek, shared with Vasona Park, offered scenic beauty and access to nature. The creek became a spot for kids to feed ducks or wade, though geese could be aggressive. Also at the park, one can ride the Billy Jones Wildcat Railroad, a 1/3-scale steam locomotive. Billy Jones, a Southern Pacific engineer, rescued a miniature locomotive from a San Francisco scrapyard in 1939 and ran it at his Los Gatos ranch. After his death in 1968, volunteers moved the railroad to Oak Meadow, opening it in 1970. Also, the kiddos can take a spin on the W.E. “Bill” Mason Carousel, a 1915 restored carousel. Rides cost $3 as of 2024 (under 2 free). The train loops into Vasona Park, connecting the two. The playground has everything one might need or children might expect, including jungle gyms, slides, and swings. In 2003, the Lyndon Bandstand was built, topped with a historic carriage house cupola, hosting events like concerts and festivals. The park offers a large grass field, bocce courts, reservable picnic areas (nine for groups of 50), and BBQ pits. Parking is free for Los Gatos residents with proof; others pay a small fee ($6 as of recent reviews). Street parking on University Avenue is a no-cost option.

We used to really love this park, but about three weeks ago, something terrible happened during a playdate. My son ran toward the airplane play structure and came down the slope, crashing directly into one of the wings. The metal edge cut a deep hole on the bridge of his nose. We rushed to the ER — the doctor had to close the wound in four layers, about 30–40 stitches in total. It was heartbreaking to watch. He lost a lot of blood, and the scar may never fully fade. We’ve spent around $5,000–$6,000 even after insurance, and he now needs daily scar care for at least a year. I’m writing this to warn other parents — that airplane is dangerous. Please keep a very close eye on your children there. No family should have to experience something like this.

Fremont Older Open Space Preserve, spanning 739 acres in Santa Clara County, offers a range of outdoor activities for families. Named after Fremont Older, the area is ideal for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. The property features stunning valley views and includes the historic home of Fremont Older. A popular loop trail provides an enjoyable hike with moderate elevation suitable for children. The preserve also offers opportunities to observe wildlife and enjoy shaded areas along lower elevation trails.
Lovely views. Leased dogs allowed. Lots of trail options - all hilly. Portable bathroom at parking lot. Arrived at 10am on a Saturday and lot was full had to wait for others to leave. Lots of deer. Some trails are wide and other get quite tight and narrow near drop off.

Quite a few trails are there along the folds of the mountain, part easy partly somewhat steep. We did the Hunter's Point Ans Seven Springs. The trail for the second one was very slushy and slippery, maybe due to rains earlier. View from Hunter's Point is ok - Stevens Creek Dr in a strait line, the circular Apple offices a little further, and tha buildings ofdowntown San Jose far away. But the real joy came from the verdant carpets on slopes around our path and the stylish mansions nestled between thick growth of greenery. On the whole a pleasant outing on a cool sunny morning.

I love running and hiking at Fremont Older OSP. You can connect to Stevens Creek County Park from there. Parking can be tough on weekends. If you go before 7 am in the late Fall/Winter you can find plenty of parking.

Great place to hike if the weather is 75° Went on Monday morning the 21st around 10:30 am. You have to walk through an uphill neighborhood before you hit the main trail. Is all uphill. It's considered hard on strava. I was alone most of the trail. Saw a biker alone as well. It was 1:45 min of walking before I hit the top (took a few view breaks). Walking back down is easy. There is a street that has an apartment complex before you hit the private road that takes you up to the trail. Park there.

Love the park, trails, views but hate the parking situation. There's only space for 10-15 cars, and unless you show up early morning or late afternoon, expect to wait for 10-15 if lucky.

Always a great place to go for a short hike. Parking can sometimes be challenging due to a small lot. Carpool (best), Come early (better) or park down the road leading up to Fremont older. Be aware that it is a bit steep in places and take it slow if needed. The hikes are priceless

Baylands Park is a stunningly developed expanse of over 70 acres nestled along the San Francisco Bay, offering an array of recreational opportunities. With its inviting playgrounds and well-maintained trails, this park is perfect for families looking to enjoy a day outdoors. The main area features charming spots to sit and relax, complete with convenient amenities like restrooms and water fountains for refilling bottles.
This park is a perfect spot for flying drones, kites, and model airplanes while enjoying breathtaking mountain views. It’s also a fantastic place for birdwatching and unwinding in nature. With picnic areas and playgrounds for kids, it’s ideal for a family outing. Plus, there’s a zoo nearby—just be sure to check its hours before you go!

Nice park by the bay with lots of amenities. My one complaint, depending on when you go, is the $6 entrance fee. Often it is free in winter but hit or miss in other months. Plenty of parking, five different picnic areas for large groups, several playgrounds as well as multiple restrooms. There is a drone flying area which some people have complained about the noise, but this is relegated to a small corner of the park away from the picnic areas.

It’s a beautiful, well-maintained park that offers a perfect mix of open spaces, walking trails, and scenic views of the wetlands. The picnic areas are clean and spacious, making it ideal for family gatherings or a relaxing afternoon outdoors. I love how peaceful it feels, even though it’s close to the city — you can hear the birds, feel the breeze, and enjoy a touch of nature without going far. The playground and open fields are great for kids, and the trails are perfect for a casual stroll or jog.

What a great park for walking, biking, running, and learning about the environment. A large piece of land for recreation with lots of picnic tables, playground, intense obstacle courses, restrooms, water fountain, and more.

I love it at Baylands. I used to find it rather drab and boring but earlier this year my partner found out that the bay trail starts here at the right hand side edge of baylands. And that trail is super nice with ducks, and small kittens, and a small little lake. Baylands also hosted July 4th celebrations with drones here in 2024 which were quite nice. These days I just go to sit at the main pavilion and read a book. It’s very peaceful. Lots of picnic tables if you’re interested.
Mallika K — Google review
Plenty of parking space and the playground is nice for 2-4 year old children. It seems like there is less footfall in the park as there are cobwebs and not maintained well.

Unfortunately they cut down a lot of trees recently. Aside from that it is a fantastic place to go fly remote control airplanes. During the weekdays and weekends there's always a group of people there in the mornings that are fun to hang out with and easy to talk to. Always willing to help a new person with their remote control setup. You can find them at Pickleweed place which is on the far right of the park as you come in the main gate
Kevin M — Google review
Great park! We went there to look around the park and use my drone. They have a designated drone area which was cool. Not able to use the drone over the mash, but that's understandable being a protected area. Some cool trails, albeit a bit flooded in some areas from the rain. Multiple bathrooms on site. They also have a playground for the kids near the middle.

Nestled along the banks of the Guadalupe River, Ulistac Natural Area is a serene 41-acre oasis in Santa Clara that offers a refreshing escape from urban life. This rustic riverside park showcases diverse habitats such as grasslands, coastal scrub, and wetlands, making it a haven for nature enthusiasts. Visitors can explore winding trails while enjoying bird-watching opportunities and spotting local wildlife like lizards, butterflies, gophers, and jackrabbits.
This is a wonderful hike in the evenings. Parking is limited. The nature walk offers different scenery as well as educational signs for the plants you are looking at. I really enjoyed seeing the wildlife, flowers, plants, and trees. As soon as the sun set, the mosquitoes attacked, so be sure to be prepared for the bites if you go in the evenings. Overall, 5 star nature walk.

This is a merely a patch of "natural area" in the middle of a developed suburban area in north Santa Clara. It's off Lick Mill Road so there is plenty of street parking. They specify on a board at the entrance that this is not a park so there are no restrooms or regular maintenance. It is au natural. The paths are relatively short. You can transverse it in 20 minutes if you don't stop to admire the lizards and birds. If you are into bird watching or photographing nature, there are people who do that here. But otherwise, I think you might be sorely disappointed with the place. It is connected to the Guadalupe River walk so you can always walk that narrow loop that many tech companies employees near Levi Stadiun take on their lunch exercise break if you didn't get your steps in.

Ulistac Natural Area is a wonderful spot for a relaxing walk in Santa Clara. We enjoyed wandering through the park, which felt like a peaceful retreat from the city. The trails are flat and easy, making it ideal for a leisurely stroll, whether alone or with company. You’ll see people with binoculars bird watching, and it’s no surprise, there’s a lively variety of birds, like sparrows and woodpeckers, flitting around, thanks to the park’s location along the Guadalupe River. The wildflowers, like California lilacs and orange poppies, add stunning bursts of color, especially in spring, making it a fantastic spot for photography. I loved taking pictures of the blooms and scenic views. The atmosphere is calm, with diverse habitats like oak woodlands and grasslands that keep the scenery interesting. It’s a well-maintained, community-driven space with native plants and a butterfly garden. Ulistac is perfect for anyone wanting to enjoy a walk, spot birds, or snap great photos.

It was a fun and great afternoon walk. The weather of the day when I visited was warm around 21°C or 70F. A light breeze felt so nice , especially under the shade. The place itself is beautiful. The spring colors are clearly visible with multiple flowers and colorful trees. The natural open space is great for walking, jogging, strolling, bicycling and running. Bird watching, butterfly watching and bee watching are another things to dedicate time to while you are there. The place is abundant in the species of flora and fauna. It stimulates you with eye catching colors, serene views and calming sounds . Birds chirping, bees humming and winds rustling leaves make for a really nice getaway from the human society. The wild colorful flowers and shrubs add to the experience. Great place to just get a lunch sit under a shady tree and enjoy , or just bring over a nice book , sit and enjoy. Parking is street parking, but easy enough to find. It feels more a maze and a criss-cross of different kind of habitats in California. Definitely a nice place to visit if you are in the neighborhood or just looking for a casual walk in the nature.

We went in the middle of the day which probably wasn’t ideal. There’s a lot of nice things about this park if you can appreciate a natural setting. Lots of birds, butterflies, dragonflies and wildflowers. Most exciting thing I saw was a California thrasher which sat on a branch for a long time and sang a beautiful song and let me take pictures. Warning even though it was a hot day, we got swarmed by mosquitoes and bitten a lot.

This park is such a fun and refreshing spot to visit. It offers a mix of cool features including a seesaw, a small climbing section, and some smooth concrete slides that kids really enjoy. One thing that really stood out to me is how well thought-out everything feels, even the bathroom area is clean and nicely maintained. A working farm with plenty of trails for fitness activities! This beautiful piece of property is a community treasure in Blossom Valley. Representative of what this place used to be, farms growing produce to feed the local population. One of my favorite parts of the park is the UC Master Gardener Martial Cottle Park Community Education Center. The park also features livestock and a great playground for children. There are several covered spaces for larger groups to use for picnicking. There is a small office at the front entrance of the property that also is a museum of the history of this place. Highly recommended that you stop by and learn about the place you are visiting. On any morning, afternoon or evening of the week you will find many people out on the trails that surround the perimeter of the park, walking, biking, rollerblading, skateboarding.... The closest thing to motorized would be me on my electric scooter. The trail is a flat one with no shade, if you're visiting midday, be prepared for that.

Guadalupe Oak Grove Park in San Jose, CA is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Spanning 62.7 acres, the hilly park offers challenging trails for cyclists and picturesque walking paths through tall oak trees. It features picnic spots, playgrounds, and public restrooms. Despite being located in a residential area, the park provides a serene escape with woodpeckers and scenic views from small hills.
Really nice 63-acre park with fantastic hiking trails for a neighborhood park. Can climb 250 ft. to fairly unobstructed views of the valley and foothills, or stay on flatter trails. Most hiking routes are about 1-mi, but these can be easily extended to view the full park. Ignore the hours on Google maps: according to the park’s website, its hours are 8 am to sunset. Dogs are allowed on-leash. Many warning signs indicate that alcohol is prohibited. As the name suggests, the park is situated in an Blue Oak and Coastal Live Oak grove (according to the Audubon society, this is one of the last remaining large oat tracts on the Santa Clara valley floor). There are also rock outcroppings and you can view an abandoned sandstone quarry. Birdwatchers may be able to spot woodpeckers and scrub-jays, among many other types of birds. There are public restrooms but no BBQ pits or sports fields. However, the Oak Grove park borders the Martin-Fontana parks to the south, which do include open grass, a playground, and an off-leash dog park.

Looking for a great place to take the road less traveled? Try this park, it is fantastic. Plenty of sandy trails to take a casual walk or jog and no bicycles are allowed. Look at the map photo for the relative size and circular walking paths. The reason is that there are several medium-sized mounds with either stairs or a sand-covered trail. Please note that climbing the wooden stairs in the photo is safer than descending. Dogs are welcome; restrooms and picnic tables are near the entrance gate, and there is limited parking at no charge. If crowded, you can find nearby parking on the neighboring streets.

This is great place to hike, jog, or walk. At ground level, the sceneries are so beautiful, reminded me of the countryside. Enough trees to go around, but not too much to block out the sunlight. It's a well kept park. The surrounding neighborhoods are very clean, too. Highly recommended to visit this park. Parking is limited, and there is one way in and out. You may also park on the street as well.

This is a fun place to walk, but watch where you step! There are tarantulas in this park Also there are 300 year old men here sometimes #cranes

This Guadalupe Oak Grove Park is a little gem in Almaden. Once you get into this park, you feel you are in a different world, even though it is in the middle of residential area. There are a lot of oak trees with woodpeckers busily pecking the trees. There are two small hills that you could easily walk up to, and enjoy the view of the neighborhood and the mountains surrounding the valley. The main entrance is on Thorntree Dr. There are 10 parking spaces inside, a restroom, and some picnic area. There is also a pedestrian entrance at the back on Vargas Dr. The southern end is connected to the Jeffrey Fontana Park and Golden Oak Way.

The Guadalupe Gardens Heritage Rose Garden is a meticulously maintained garden featuring a diverse collection of heritage, modern, and miniature roses. Located in the Rose Garden neighborhood, it offers a historical ambiance with significant architectural landmarks nearby. With over 3,000 rose plants from more than 2,800 species, the garden is an enchanting sight. The free admission and daily opening hours make it easily accessible for visitors.
Visited in November, which was past prime blooming, but still lots of blossoms. Really appreciated the heirloom aspect, as well as the thoughtful arrangement of types within concentric rings of beds. Really enjoyed the variety of size and shapes of the rose bushes and the color and scent variations. Wonderful stop!

Features a beautiful selection of heritage roses. Take a peaceful walk among the fragrant flowers. Capture memorable moments in this scenic garden.
Revathi K — Google review
Not quite as pretty as the rose garden just a few blocks away towards Santa Clara, but this place has a ton of roses! According to the signage, the Guadalupe Gardens Heritage Rose Garden has over 150 rose species and hybrids, organized in concentric circles. The garden is connected to the rest of the Guadalupe River trail, and is definitely worth a visit when the roses are in bloom.
Takeshi Y — Google review
Lots of roses that are well kept. The parking lot had some homeless hanging around. Neat to see all the variations of roses. If you are looking to kill 30 to 45 minutes and in the area it’s not a bad place to visit.
Chris B — Google review
Not impressed. Nice size of the garden. However, the roses weren’t taken care well. Lots of weeds. Also, airplanes flying over the area frequently made it not so pleasant. Lots of homeless people camped along the nearby Guadalupe River Trail. Likely won’t come back.
Bruce L — Google review
This garden deserves more praise! The plants and flowers seem to be taken care of quite well, as the plants looked very healthy. The scents are really beautiful and relaxing. This would make a great location for a jog, a walk, or really just to zone out and enjoy the beautiful horticulture.
Sean M — Google review
Now is the time to go! The roses are in full bloom and absolutely spectacular. Picnic tables and benches around. Parking available. Shops and restaurants near by.

There's plenty of roses now. Some parking but the trash and the homeless people around made the place unappealing.

Plaza de Cesar Chavez, located in the heart of downtown San Jose, is a bustling open space that hosts a variety of events and concerts throughout the year. This two-acre park is surrounded by iconic landmarks such as the Tech Museum of Innovation and the San Jose Museum of Art. During Christmas, it transforms into a festive wonderland with animatronic elves and decorated trees, while in summer, free concerts are held every Thursday.
Don’t miss out on visiting after November 29 through December when they host Christmas in the Park. Walk by beautifully decorated Christmas trees. Parking is very convenient in City view Plaza: $11 for multiple hours we spent there on that day and just a very short walk to the park. For family with kids there is plenty to see. If you are in a company of 21+ and want to check out some Christmas pop up bars there are 3: Mini boss and Paper Planes opened after 5p and 55 South at 4p. There is also Hilton hotel nearby with its own fancy Christmas decor and Bijou cafe if you want an indoor sit down. Otherwise there is plenty of food stands around the park and public bathrooms are near Ferris wheel 🎡

Always a great place to chill, especially at magic hour. There's cafes in walking distance, and sun hits just right on all buildings and you can relax in the shade ✌️

This long plaza sits across the street from the San Jose Museum of Art. The central water works offer a splash pad for kids and adults alike. Several benches and tables with bright orange umbrellas ring the water fountains. Both ends of the plaza offer green areas with lots of shade and park benches. The toilet kiosk offers sign in Braille and free entry. The park is ringed by parking by app or coins or credit card, some spots are good for 2 hours and some for 30 minutes, I brought my lunch here and enjoyed the sunny area for awhile then relaxed in the shade Accessible entry with Ramps to access areas with steps.

Christmas in the Park in downtown San Jose is a spectacular holiday tradition that truly captures the festive spirit. This free, family-friendly event offers an enchanting walk-through experience filled with whimsical displays, including over 40 holiday-themed setups. The park is beautifully decorated with whimsical displays and lights, creating a magical atmosphere perfect for families. Christmas in the Park is a heartwarming event that transforms Plaza de César Chávez into a winter wonderland. Its free admission and wide-ranging appeal ensure it remains a cherished tradition for locals and visitors alike.

Beautifully lit with Christmas trees, there are rides, food stalls, ice skating, skits and plays. It's fun to just walk around and appreciate the beauty. I have been here thrice and don't mind going again. It's a must visit during December.

This downtown park is in the middle of everything and its so cute. There are plenty of benches. The addition of umbrellas is a nice touch. The dancing fountains are pleasant and its joyful to watch children and pets play in them. One caveat - parking can be brutal.

Plaza Cesar Chavez, besides it's beauty, it's a wonderful plaza for walks, ice cream, and all other activities to explore near by. The museum of art, the San Fernando cathedral, the I Max theatre of innovation, your the San Jose City downtown. Go visit and experience it on your own. Almost forgot, the enormous and delicious variety of food... Yummy yummy Tommy!!!! Enjoy 😎

Nature & Parks
Nestled within the charming Discovery Meadow in San Jose, California, "Monopoly in the Park" boasts the world's largest permanent Monopoly board, an impressive 930 square feet of fun and strategy. This unique attraction features oversized game pieces crafted from heavy granite slabs and PVC materials, allowing visitors to engage in a life-sized version of the classic board game. With colossal dice and iconic tokens at your disposal, players can immerse themselves in a thrilling experience that captures the essence of real estate deals.
This is a really cool idea. The open air and the sun beating down on you as you enjoy the day. Don't try and move the dice as they are huge and possibly permanent lol. There are little statues dotting the park area. Got to see lots of motorcycles traveling around at least 100 at one point. Beautiful artworks nearby
Booyaka ( — Google review
The monopoly board was smaller than I had pictured. And why that game? It's one of the most boring board games around. The animal sculptures are cool. If you're passing by, it's worth a stop but definitely don't go out of your way for this one.
Gary M — Google review
Fun to see a giant-scale monopoly board in a park. There are park seats, tables and chairs (some equipped with chess boards), fun animal statues, some giant artwork, and a large open space. A nice place to sit and relax. Kid-friendly. Easy to walk to.
Hannah R — Google review
Monopoly in the Park is a fun, unique spot with a giant Monopoly board on the ground and two big dice you can climb on. There’s no playground, but there’s a nice grassy lawn and a bench to chill. It’s right by the Guadalupe River Trail and the San Jose Children’s Discovery Museum.
Naby — Google review
This was a cool park to visit for stretching the legs and getting some sun before exploring the city. I would love to come back when there is a festival going on that would be cool.

Cool giant sized Monopoly game board! Just wondering if there is an actual way to play with giant pieces and giant paper money!? Loved it though. Great atmosphere and wonderful park area all around.
Vivian M — Google review
Date of Visit: Saturday, Dec 14th, 2019 Because we came to San Jose - we knew we had to look for the Monopoly in the Park attraction. We had seen it many times on other people's Instagrams and thought it might be a good roadside attraction worth visiting. It is incredibly hard to get to if you are just driving through San Jose. There is a major roadway with no parking to stop at and just grab a quick photo. We had to pull into the drop off section at the children's museum nearby and run over to the park while someone stayed in the car. It is a recreation of a giant Monopoly board in the centre of a children's playground. However, I assumed there would be tokens, etc but there were not. There are other figures in the park but they have nothing to do with the monopoly board. As a roadside attraction, it is a bit of a bust. It was too difficult to access, too far away from the nearest parking spot, and not really all that fun for photos. My recommendation is - DO NOT go looking specifically for this roadside attraction. If you are nearby - check it out. As much as Roguetrippers love oversized things, and quirky attractions, This one was a bit of a letdown.
Rogue T — Google review
Great initiative, putting a real life Monopoly in the park. However, it is not as big as I was expecting and it is not interactive at all, purely decorative. You cans see it had its best time as the board lost lots of its paint. This has great potential but could really use a new layer of paint!

It's a nice park in the downtown area. I come here because of the calisthenics equipment(pull up bars, parallel bars, etc.) on the east side that are always clean and well maintained. It does get a bit sketchy from time to time but no one has ever bothered me
Arash G — Google review
Nice park. I think it’s been cleaned up a lot in the last couple years.
Jason D — Google review
This park has a lot of potential but it is too often dirty and unsafe. I go a few times per week to use the exercise equipment. This week, an aggressive man came over unprovoked and tried bullying me away from the equipment by ordering me around and threatening me. I wish more families and friendly people in San Jose would fill this space instead of vagrants, drug users, and angry people suffering from mental illness. This park has a nice playground, spacious grassy areas, and many shady trees. It’s going to take the whole city, and perhaps an act of God, to transform St. James park into the safe and peaceful neighborhood park that it should be! I have hope!

Flickinger Park is a community space that offers various recreational amenities. It features a softball field, two basketball courts, horseshoe pits, and picnic areas. Additionally, there is a baseball court and a large field for hosting events or engaging in different sports activities. The park also includes two smaller parks to provide additional options for children's entertainment. Visitors can enjoy the availability of well-maintained basketball hoops and courts, as well as a toddler playground.
Good park. With lots of room to run around. Also has basketball courts which are always filled with players. Clean restrooms. Clean park.

Been going to this park for some time now and the quality really deteriorated Pros - Huge park. At least 2 baseball fields, 2 playgrounds, plenty of picnic tables in the back basketball courts etc. - Plenty of parking all around the park and they have a parking lot too - Ice cream truck comes around every 30 mins - Most of the time it's empty Cons - The field is not maintained and dangerous. Bottle caps and spikey turf. Be careful or you or your dog can get hurt. - The grass field is a bit uneven everywhere. - Homeless people literally live here. They park their cars and either sit in it or loiter around the bathroom. - Non-homeless people go through the trash. See it almost every time I go here. - Wish they would have doggy poop bags. There are many dog poops left around and you need to be careful - Depending on the direction of the wind, you could sometime get the smell of the landfill - I've seen people doing drugs in their car around this area.

If you are looking for quiet and serene this park is not it. This is a very lively park. There are a lot of walkers, dog walkers, and joggers. The park has 2 playgrounds, one geared for younger children one geared for elementary school children. There's Picnic areas that are always filled with birthday parties on the weekends. There's always lots of people playing at the basketball courts and there are horse shoe pits. This park is home to a local Little League and they utilize the 2 baseball and 1 softball field, which are open to the public when they are not in use & The snack shack is open during baseball games in the on season. In addition, The ice cream truck always makes it's way around the park at some point during the day at least once, usually more than once on the weekends in the late spring, summer and early fall seasons.
