Park
Nature & Parks
Hawk Island Park, located in South Lansing, is a sprawling 100-acre all-seasons park that offers a wide range of outdoor activities and attractions. Originally established as a gravel pit in 1944, the park has since evolved into a popular destination featuring a beach, fishing piers, wintertime slopes for snowboarding, and a 1.5-mile pathway for leisurely strolls.
This park is a wonderful place for families! It’s clean, peaceful, and has plenty of space for kids to play and run around. We loved the playground and the walking paths. It’s also a great spot for small birthday parties or relaxing picnics. Definitely one of our favorite parks in the area!
Zainab S — Google review
Hawk Island is a versatile, well-maintained park that caters to all seasons. Whether you’re cooling off on the splash pad, paddling around the lake, tubing into the evening, or enjoying a scenic bike ride along the river trails, there’s something for everyone. It’s family-friendly, pet-friendly (with some restrictions), and a valuable local hub of outdoor recreation. If you’re planning a visit, here are a few tips: 1.Grab an annual pass if you plan multiple visits across lakes, parks, and the zoo. 2.Reserve shelters early—they book up fast for summer parties. 3.For tubing, buy tickets ahead online, and dress warmly if you’re watching from below.
Khosnur A — Google review
You have to pay to get in if you're driving (Highly recommend). Or walk/ride your bike through the accessible path around the park. The place does offer fun activities and areas for families to enjoy. Fishing is highly recommended around the wooded area.
Raymar E — Google review
Lovely, clean, peaceful and family friendly. $5 per car for nonresident. Lake swimming, fishing, splash pard, trails...
Evelyne K — Google review
Very pretty spot, not a long walk around the lake, they have a beautiful spot with wildflowers in the median when you drive in, I wish more parks would make dedicated areas for local pollinators! The bees were loving it :)
Nicholas A — Google review
Beautiful park!!! Great paved and unpaved trails! The Dog park is AMAZING! (you must have a pass) Absolutely my favorite park in the landing area. Gets 100 ⭐
Karyn D — Google review
Wow, what a beautiful park. We were looking for a place near our campground, Cottonwood, to take our Kayak out. This must be either a new park or it’s being updated. Has a very nice dog park, splash pad, playground near a very small but nice beach. There’s a boat rental and small boat launch area with plenty of piers for fishing and what looks like an amazing bike path that goes around the entire park. They do rent paddle boats, swans, canoes and kayaks. We were able to set up our kayak and launch here easily as well. Nobody was on the water. Very small little lake to loop around but gorgeous and fun for us old folks. Did I mention it’s close to the campground as well!!! Lots of picnic areas and benches. Saw plenty of staff driving around the grounds. $5 parking for out of town people. Loved it!

Nestled in Lansing, the 134-acre Fenner Nature Center offers a picturesque outdoor experience. Visitors can explore scenic nature trails, maple trees, and glacial eskers. The venue's visitor center showcases hands-on exhibits and native reptile species. Operated by the Fenner Conservancy, a non-profit organization dedicated to sustainability, it aims to reconnect people with nature.
Beautiful serene trails with flowers, wildlife, mushrooms and friendly people everywhere.

Fenner Nature Center is mesmerizing! It’s difficult to find words for such a beautiful park full of nature since word limit our way to express, I’ve taken an ample amount of pictures and videos to try to capture how beautiful our experience was here! Thank you for keeping such a pristine and well kept park! We saw lots of little animals such as squirrels, butterflies, and a red cardinal! Which is a beautiful spiritual symbol and we love to see that. It feels incredible safe and friendly to explore. We came across a tremendous grave yard which was spectacular to be surrounded by even though death may seem sad it’s a beautiful part of life and this park embraces it gently. Will definitely come back again! Feeling grounded and whole after a rough day at the nearby hospital for our pet.
Edis — Google review
Located outside of Lansing Michigan, this is a fantastic place for hiking and biking. Over 4 miles of marked trails...many of which are paved. There are over 130 acres of green space ,maple groves and native prairie areas. There is also a Visitor's Center which we did not visit . No cost to enter and plenty of parking, this is definitely a place to visit year round.

I photographed an engagement session here not too long ago! It’s absolutely beautiful! You also get an amazing glow during golden hour! It is also kept super clean! Will definitely be back!

Kira and Dillon are wonderful Educators. I chaperoned for my Grandsons 2nd grade class this week. It was an amazing experience. It’s wonderful to have such a big piece of nature so close and people that are excited about it!

We recently visited the Fenner Nature Center for their plant sale event and had a truly wonderful time. It was a great opportunity to explore everything the center has to offer, from the well-maintained trails to the natural play area and the visitor's center. We were impressed by how clean the facilities were, especially the bathrooms. The animals in the nature center were a highlight—they were clearly well-cared for and fascinating to observe. Our toddler absolutely loved exploring the paved nature trails, and the story walk was a fantastic, engaging activity for them. Overall, this was a great experience for the whole family, and we would highly recommend the Fenner Nature Center to anyone looking for a fun and relaxing day outdoors.
Michael F — Google review
Such a lovely location. A city Nature center, peacefully nestled away from the city traffic & noise. We recently attended a loved one s memorial service in one of the buildings & it was very nice. We could access it w a wheelchair (just prepare for the uphill ramp on the way in & the downhill ramp on the way out!🎢It was accommodating, temp controlled & the restrooms were both clean & well-stocked. There was a wedding in the opposite direction of our service, so the grounds offers settings for multiple needs. We'd been yrs before to the main building for a school field trip, which was also memorable & fun for the children & families.

My family and I went for the Apple Butter Festival and we were all wowed! Even in the cold rain, the volunteers were all super friendly and enthusiastic! My parents live in town, my husband and I do not, but we are already looking forward to coming back to explore the trails! 🍎🍁😊

Crego Park, located at 1600 Fidelity Road, spans 200 acres and offers a wooded retreat with river access for fishing, kayaking, and canoeing. The park is also connected to various trails, making it an ideal spot for outdoor enthusiasts. Over the years, it has gained popularity among visitors who enjoy activities such as biking, walking, and kayaking.
Great little place tucked away. The lake/pond is pretty with the geese and ducks. I did a lap around the path. It's not very far but can be a bit tricky in parts (uneven and tree roots etc) Pretty fall colors
Kristy H — Google review
Calm nature area. Good for an easy to moderate trail experience. A part of the trail runs parallel to the highway ramp which makes it a bit annoying. The trail through the nature area is quite serene and calm. Would rate the overall experience as 3.5
Rupa B — Google review
Please read before walking! The trail is 1 mile long. But only 0.5-1 person wide. So don’t walk this unless you and your companions are comfortable touching strangers. The whole far side of the lake is fence on one side and falling into the water on the other. It’s very muddy and icy at certain times. I am only 5.4 and had to duck often or be whipped in the face by branches. On the bright side - my butt got a great workout thanks to being clenched the entire time.
Rachel J — Google review
Great place to go swimming. Heavily fished with lots of pressure. Crappie and bass have all I pulled from the lake. The park can fill up fast with paddle board yoga and family's enjoying the easy access to swimming.
Jeff T — Google review
This hidden little gem is along the River Trail off of Mount Hope Rd. Quiet and tucked away. Great for walking along the trail. A couple of docks to fish from. Picnic tables and benches. Clean. Picturesque. Wildlife and plants. The flowers in this photo smell heavenly. (*Tell me what they might be if you think you know.)
Terrance C — Google review
Nice little park with the paved Lansing river trail going through it. Very peaceful and quiet walk. Gorgeous at sunset. Two parking locations on either side of park. Cool spot to take a walk in nature.
Adam R — Google review
Nice little park. Never crowded. Fishing, boating and relaxing. Connects to Lansing River trail

Hidden gem! I truly enjoy the ‘getting back to nature’ feel you get even though it’s located in a large city. People could learn to pick up their trash a bit better, but overall a great location.

Very nice ambience and kids play area. Yhe park is used to host many concerts and one of the best spots in Lansing to watch the of July fireworks

We went to the Wing Fest here and had a late lunch. There were ribs, wings, strips, fries, rice, and drinks. Sweets were also offered. The actual park is for kids. Very nice playground for all children. Picnic tables for lunches right by the playground.
Linda G — Google review
Let me say, that I love the idea of having the park downtown, but it's crowded, and not enough play activities for everyone. I do love the idea. I guess without being a parent one wouldn't understand there's no money I wouldn't spend for my kid's happiness. The kids though did love it. Played tag, and loved the wheel spin thing in the middle. Cute park. Go when its not crowded though. My guess is early morning in the week or early Saturday morning.
Matthew M — Google review
Went for an adventure walk the scenery was beautiful many flowers and art along the way. But I will say we saw a used hypodermic needle and crack pipe along the way. So sad to see such things sitting on the edge of a play ground. Also found a shanty town of bums begging for cigarettes, when we said we quit smoking they cheered us on lol. Kinda awkward experience but not a bad one. There was a scavenger hunt along the bike trail that we didn't know about until we were done with hike. Pretty sure that's where the hidden trolls my daughter and niece found came from. Overall good experience even with seeing the bad stuff.
Jeanette S — Google review
Went to a rock show in the park. Nice area downtown.
Christina B — Google review
Super fun park! Located near the river and the new-ish LANSING sign it is a park that has plenty to do for everyone. It looks like they're continuing to build more next to it... someone can speak better as to whether it'll be picnicking areas or something else... it can also be unrelated to the park itself. The park has a soft rubbery flooring, quick access via a gate to the river trail and two large portapotties (though they were locked when we came by Oct 12th. Would recommend this park to anyone with kids
Stephen S — Google review
My daughter and I came to a pow wow here on Saturday. We loved it so much that we came back for the final day on Sunday. It was a great time and everyone was super friendly! We'll definitely be back for the 3rd annual one next year!

Loved this place. They have plenty of parking. The trails are well taken care of. I went on a Sunday. They have structures which included a log cabin, covered picnic shelter, a visitor center and a barn. Because of the day they were closed. There is lot a variety of birds. I did see quite a few Towhee birds. A will go back place. $3 entrance fee unless you are a member. Bring cash

Wow this place is amazing! I love the trails and the buildings. The old cabin brings back my childhood my husband and I was out there doing a nature project for his college course.
Brandy S — Google review
Beautiful trail with evergreen trees. Only one other car when we went in December. Trails were very good and maintained even though we went after a heavy rainfall. Costs a couple bucks as a drop station for us to go, but nothing terrible. Lovely people walking and cool surrounding buildings. Parking lot could do with some repaving
Brooke E — Google review
Such a gorgeous and wonderful place. The staff was so professional and kind. They made sure my sister-in-law's wedding went off without a problem. They were on top of everything and made sure her day went off without interruptions and made sure our older guest had transportation to the ceremony site. 100000/10 recommend them!

Huge park with lots to offer. There are multiple playgrounds in different areas, covered picnic tables, pickleball courts, hammocks (in the summer), Sledding hill (in the winter), and well-kept trails.
Beth — Google review
I don't get out this way often but enjoy walking these trails whenever I'm on this side of town. Today, I was delighted to discover that the former rink in the Western area of the park (entrance near the sledding hill) has been recently been replaced by a playscape, pickleball court, picnic tables + pavilion and...my personal favorite: hammocks!
Tara S — Google review
Its a great place to star gaze if your into star gazing. If your looking for a safe park to enjoy both in the day and at night. This is the place to go. The trails are well lit at night. The park is very clean and well maintained. I'm sure if you enjoy sledding in the winter this would be the best place around. There are many hidden things that may not have been found by others at this park. Its a must see all around year around. Take your mind off the Covid and take your kids for a walk or your significant other or as a family. Something to do for everyone. Facilities are also very clean and well maintained. 5 stars all around I recommend to everyone. Of all ages!! God Bless

The park boasts an extensive trail network that encompasses both the agricultural area and the main park itself. A rustic bridge connects visitors to an island-like space, perfect for dog walking and other recreational activities. The overall ambiance of this place feels enchanting and special.

I love walking here on my days off which are rare. It’s beautiful in the fall- the sunlight is so perfect and the leaves are precious. The trails are amazing and the views tranquil.
Sarah W — Google review
Great park for hiking and biking. There’s asphalt trails, mulch trails and field trails. On site bathrooms. Great scenery for birds and other wildlife. Well maintained. Dog friendly (bags and trash bins are on site).
Ryan G — Google review
Obviously depends on what you're looking for. If it's a quiet well maintained wooded trail with both gravel and paved trails wide enough for runners walkers, and bikes, this is the place. I often use it for running and you can hit about 6 miles before circling back towards the start. Parking can get cramped at busier hours, but I've not had any issue in the past year. There are bathrooms as well.
Humming B — Google review
A great park that just needs some loving TLC. The bridge across the pond is broken. The trail has trashcans and rails that are paved and also gravel (so good for strollers). The trail does not have maps anymore so that needs fixing but you wont get lost due to corn fields being around. Big parking lot.
Grant F — Google review
Great park, nice trails. The floating pontoon/barrel bridge was unfortunately destroyed in a storm and has been left unrepaired. Most of the paved trails are nice, some of them need repairs also.
Neilsin — Google review
This park is outstanding. There are many ways you can customize your paths as you walk in this park. I needed a trail map the first couple of times to learn this park, but eventually I did not need it anymore. There are paved trails, gravel trails, limestone trails, and grass trails. What I like is that the park's appearance varies throughout.
L B — Google review
This place is so peaceful, I'm glad that I found this trail. There seems to be some kind of wildlife always around which is awesome. Paved and unpaved trails. Unpaved trails aren't rough though, I was able to push a cheap umbrella stroller through them.

Frances Park, located on the west side of Lansing, is a stunning city park known for its picturesque rose garden, woodland trail, and river overlook. The park sits atop a high bluff overlooking the Grand River and offers breathtaking sunset views. With its 150 varieties of roses and ancient trees, it's a popular spot for romantic strolls and special occasions. Families also enjoy the park's playground, soccer fields, and basketball hoops for fun outings.
We held our class reunion picnic here yesterday. It was super clean, very well kept, bathrooms excellent. A treat to be there again after 20 years.

Had a great time at the City of Lansing's Concerts in the Park event. Would be nice if they would have mowed the tall grass prior to the event. Some dead trees that need attention before someone gets hurt!

Quit little park along the grand river. Nice rose garden and picnic area. Good playground, soccer field, and ball diamond. Great place for children’s birthday party’s.

Frances Park (Lansing, MI) is widely celebrated as a beautiful, versatile park perfect for families, photography, exercise, and small events. Visit during late spring to early summer to enjoy the rose garden in full bloom. In autumn, it is one of the best places to enjoy fall colors in Lansing. It is great for family picnics, engagement, or wedding photos.

A beautiful park with an amazing garden and beautiful walking/biking paths.

Plenty of shade, seating for parents, and tables, but not the best playground area. My kids will play for an hour or more at other places but were a little bored after about 15 minutes-- they are 7 and 9. The rose garden is pretty, and the walking trail is nice, but in the back of the garden, there's a bunch of trees and brush down that haven't been cleaned up since a storm earlier this year. Not the worst park we've been to, but not really the best either.

This park is beautiful. They have a rose garden and a balcony that overlooks the Grand River. Grills, playground, soccer field...its just really nice. Full of families during the summer. Great place for wedding and graduation pictures. A truly hidden gem in Lansing.

Lake Lansing Park North is a versatile all-season park offering a range of terrains and outdoor activities such as boating, trail hiking, disc golf, and more. The park features around 3.5 miles of serene trails, including the red, blue, and orange trails that cater to different preferences. Visitors can enjoy amenities like shelter rentals, a baseball diamond, playgrounds, and serene spots for picnics with grills and gazebos.
Much like it's brother park Lake Lansing South, Lake Lansing North has great views for picnics, walks or just to run and play! Out of county residents will pay a small fee to enter the park, but it all goes into maintaining the park! Giant play structure available for kids of all ages. Parking lot is big with plenty of parking options! Come spend an afternoon at Lake Lansing North!

The park opens shortly before sunset and closes slightly after sunset. The park offers a variety of services including disc golf, shelter rentals (3), hiking trails, a baseball diamond, and a playground. The disc golf course is 18 holes but they are all relatively short par 3. The hiking trails have some variety with the red trail being the shortest and the blue trail being the longest. My personal favorite trail is the orange trail which splits off from the green blue trail. I used to work here, regularly closing the park. Occasionally there are ruts that form at the entry which are graded regularly but do be cautious as you enter. The springtime offers a look at many nesting birds such as Sand Hill Cranes and Canadian Geese. The sunset over the marsh from just west of the main shelter is perhaps the best view of the sunset in the area. The restrooms are closed for a portion of the year due to freezing conditions and take some time to be un-winterized. There are 2 fire pits near the main shelter with ample firewood provided.
Nathan W — Google review
I visit this park regularly to walk the trails, which are the best and longest in the region. The longest trail is over three miles through beautiful, mature trees, wetlands, and moderate hills. Dogs on leash are permitted throughout the park. There are three picnic pavilions with tables and grilles that can be reserved, restrooms, and a large playground. There is also a ball diamond, sand volleyball court, and a disc golf course. There is an entrance fee.

Fantastic trails for hiking, trail running, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing (rentals of skis/show shoes in the winter on Sat and Sun). I love this place and usually do the 3.8-mile blue/green loop hiking and recently started skiing there. The trails are very well defined so it’s easy to find your way around.

Love this walking trail. Lots of trails to choose from. You can hike for 2 miles or 5 miles. There are several places where you can extend the hike, and also where you can exit early. Beautiful paths. We'll kept up.

This is a beautiful wooded park, perfect for family get togethers with lots of room to social distance during the COVID pandemic. We've enjoyed hiking the trails here as well, all year round. I love that this park is nearby to enjoy!

Some of my personal favorite trails in the Ingham county. My dog loves it! Great place to see wildlife and birds, as well as hunt for mushrooms if that's what you're into. Has not been as crowded as other trails in the area the times that I have been. Recommend pants and bug spray in the summer months as there can be some mosquitos, fleas, and ticks.

Northern Tail Dog Park is a spacious, two-acre off-leash park located near the East Lansing Softball Complex. The park features double-gated fencing, shade trees, and a water station for dogs. While children under 9 are not allowed in the park, it offers ample space for dogs to roam and play freely. Visitors appreciate the well-kept grass, multiple entrances, and availability of waste bags. Additionally, there is ample parking and seating with shaded areas.
You know, you just can't go wrong with a dog park like this. It's free, there's a lot of space and neighborhoods to walk around to give your dog a break. People are usually attentive. It's not so big so that people can completely ignore each other. You're really get to know people, and the dogs do too!
Buu-Tran D — Google review
Clean, large dog park that doesn't get too busy or crowded. Great hours!!
Mardi G — Google review
Children under 9 are not allowed at the dog park. There were about 20 people with big dogs and this parent was on their phone, not watching their child for the majority of it. Allowing their child to play with dog toys and not allow the dogs to have them, taunting dogs. Be mindful of your dogs when here; common sense is not so common.

This park is a great place except for two things: 1) No water pump or fountain, and 2) It closes in the winter. Why does it have to close in the winter? Some dogs LOVE playing in the snow, especially huskies, etc. but they find themselves in a state where snow only happens for a few months a year. They would LOVE to play here in the winter! (my animal companions don't have thick coats, but still...) Every other dog park I have been to have fountains or water pumps (well water) and the WATER park (repeat: water. park.) is so close to the dog park, you would think there would be an easy way to get city water to the dog park. The pups are always thirsty and we "owners" can't seem to bring enough H2O! I know this park is relatively new and I applaud the city council for creating it in the first place. I have noticed over the months that new sections have been added for smaller animal companions, which is a good idea. I also think that funding the beautiful dog park, where families, including non-human members of the family, can safely exercise and enjoy the outdoors during COVID, soak up vitamin D, and be a part of the community is a MUCH BETTER WAY TO SPEND OUR TAX DOLLARS than a deer cull - killing deer not because they cause accidents or harm any other life, but because they eat the flower beds of the wealthiest in the city. It is a shame that would even be considered over something like a beneficial community project like this one. Thank you!
Alex S — Google review

The park offers great amenities including tennis courts, a basketball court, and even a bike repair station. Visitors can enjoy picnics or simply relax in the open space while children play.
A warm family park. Free open space. They used to hold some events for a certain date. They have a playground and a tennis court.
Omcalip — Google review
No one was there, not much going on. A lot of open field, a few picnic tables, that's it. I don't remember seeing a playground, but I could be wrong. There is a Farmer's Market here like once a week though. It's small, but brings in a crowd. I saw zero restrooms anywhere. They have none.
Hilary — Google review
I went to use the courts, not realizing from the pictures that it was in very poor condition. I was surprised that a park so close to campus and next door to some very big and fancy fraternities would be so poorly maintained. Also the only bathroom was a porto potty that was locked during a weekday. There was not much free parking either.

We were there to celebrate Cinco De Mayo 🇲🇽 and to see this new dance group called Greater Lansing Area Ballet Folkloric perform and they were fantastic 😍! Their performances, costumes, and dancers were awesome. They have a variety of dancers from little ones to older ones but every dance they did was filled with excitement and energy. If you haven't heard about them or seen a performance you should check them out. They will be at the East Lansing Arts Festival on May 18th, Cristo Rey Fiesta May 25th and Riverfront on May 21st. Otherwise, it's awesome, the chairs on the sand at sunset are amazing and so is the lighted forest; it's just too bad the grass isn't ready to sit on in that area yet. It will be quite the spot for a sunset picnic when it's fully grown in!

This review is from a situation in 2020. I would advise against using their ramp. They scammed me out of hundreds of dollars during COVID. I was using their parking garage for work and then when COVID happened, due to the stress from that and then being told to stay home for work, I forgot to cancel my card and was charged automatically. When I contacted them to get refunded, I was told I wouldn’t be able to get a refund. It’s family owned but they don’t seem to have ethics and family values to refund people their money. They make a lot of money charging for just a couple of hours. What a shame!

There are beautiful nature trails. The fall colors were breathtaking. I liked the fact that we walked on the ground and not on the pavement that s the way a natural trail should be. This place was clean and you can tell they take pride in their park. I was impressed at how well they maintained everything.
Alyssa S — Google review
The park itself was very clean, and the walking paths were well-maintained and clearly marked, which made it easy to navigate and enjoy the scenery. We appreciated the effort put into keeping the grounds tidy and accessible for visitors. Unfortunately, our experience with the rented pavilion was a completely different story. When we arrived, the pavilion was in terrible condition. The tables were covered in a mess — slime, paint, and various other sticky or dried substances. It looked as though it hadn’t been cleaned at all after the previous use. There was debris scattered across the floor and random items left behind, giving the whole area an unkempt and neglected appearance. One of the biggest inconveniences was the lack of trash cans at the pavilion site. Without a nearby place to dispose of garbage, it was frustrating to manage our own cleanup on top of dealing with the mess that was already there. For a rented space, we expected it to be ready and welcoming, but it felt more like we were cleaning up someone else’s party before we could even begin ours. The park is beautiful overall, but the pavilion upkeep and lack of on-site trash disposal were disappointing.

The 9/11 Remembrance Memorial, located in Remembrance Plaza, is a serene park area that pays tribute to the tragic events of September 11th, 2001. The memorial features American flags and a significant artifact - a 10-foot tall beam from one of the towers destroyed in the attacks. It serves as a place for reflection and remembrance, with benches overlooking the river providing a peaceful setting for contemplation.
A nice little park area with remembrance to the 9/11 tragedy of this nation. A steel piece of the World Trade Center. There are also a few benches here behind the memorial overlooking the river.

Nestled along the banks of the Grand River, Grand Woods Park is a delightful public space that offers a variety of recreational activities for visitors of all ages. With well-maintained walking trails perfect for leisurely strolls or energetic dog walks, you might even encounter some local wildlife, like deer, adding to the park's charm. The park features athletic fields and courts for sports enthusiasts, as well as an inviting pavilion equipped with a fireplace and kitchen facilities—ideal for hosting events or family gatherings.
Had a lot of fun here over the years frisbee golfing, having pig roasts with NA, walking the trails, just a wonderful place to hang out enjoying the beautiful outdoors.
Brandy S — Google review
I walked the trails and disc golf course. The reason I give the park a 4 is because if youbarent familiar with the trails it is easy to get turned around. Many of the map legends around the course have been weathered or vandalized. The park otherwise is very clean and has potential to be top notch. The disc golf course has a beautiful pond and also parts along the river with benches and trash cans.
Grant F — Google review
Lousy discgolf course. pretty average first 3 holes, but after that, the course designers seem to loose any idea what there doing. Baskets placed in random spots with no obvious fairways, t-pads places in spots where you cant even see the baskets, and no signs even showing where there at. Also, zero indicationa how to find the next T-pad even with the map. A few times i had to wonder around the park looking for the next hole. The only thing going for the course is the large, level T-pads and the new, top of the line, Discraft Chainstar-Pro baskets. Over-all a below average course, but probably good enough for the casuals and local community,

Durant Park is a tranquil urban oasis nestled in the heart of the city, offering a delightful escape for locals and visitors alike. With its beautifully landscaped flower beds, mature shade trees, and well-maintained paved pathways, it serves as an ideal gathering spot for families, children, and seniors. The park has a rich history tied to automotive pioneers Ransom Olds and Mr. Durant, making it not just a recreational area but also a monument to Lansing's heritage.
Beautiful spot close to Lansing Community College with plenty of seating, a large playground, swings and a working drinking fountain...open air theater too

Durant Park is under revitalizing and rightfully so.its a wonderful park with a rich history, Ransom Olds the founder of Oldsmobile and Mr, Durant were once partners and both founded their own automobile company. I can recall when the adjacent apartment building once housed a grocery store & Butcher shop, It's going to be interesting to see this park come back to life with a new face lift and a different set of individuals who can appreciate the history and up and coming brand new agenda's. Nice job Lansing parks and recreation. Mayor. And City council.

Seeing the leaves with the evening sun on them was beautiful. The gigantic potholes in the streets surrounding the park and noticing the potholes in the roads less than 3 blocks away disappointment me in my home town. Anyway, it was a beautiful spring day 💜 and I still wish the city was as pretty in other parts and not just downtown and on Michigan leading to East Lansing another city... INFASTRUCTURE in North Lansing is horrible to look at, live with and takes away from what could be a beautiful capital city. #GoBigGretch

Nature & Parks
Anderson Nature Park is a hidden gem for outdoor enthusiasts, offering a delightful blend of hiking and mountain biking trails. While the parking options are limited, with only a few spots available, the park's natural beauty makes it worth the visit. The trails can be narrow and occasionally unkempt due to their primary use by bikers, but this adds to their charm. Early morning visits tend to be quieter, allowing you to soak in the serene surroundings without much distraction.
Great park, full of fun very easy hiking trails. Just be mindful of the poison ivy. It’s everywhere.
Andrew L — Google review
It was a great walk. So I'll start at the beginning. The parking area which there are at least two. Google maps will take you to the first one. The ground is just hardened mud so that could be improved. Fits 5 to 6 cars at the first spot. I like one is reserved for emergency vehicles. The trails are mtn bike trails as it is sponsored by a man bike group. The trails are well maintained signage is ample but you do have to use common sense when navigating them as bikers have created little loops here and there. I walked the green and blue trails. I'd say moderate difficulty just because of some minor hills but the ground is compacted making for smooth walking. Found wild mushrooms a pleasant surprise and a deadpossum, sad face. I didn't even see bikers until the end of my walk. I loved how the forest was open and trees had been cut for safety. It would be better with biffys at one entrance and even more signage as we the people be dumb sometimes ya all.

This is my favorite nature park so far. There was alot of bikes on the trails. It was very interesting. We saw limbs that were growing up and connecting to other trees simply amazing . No restrooms or pay are for kids. Nature at it's finest
Alyssa S — Google review
Overall great place for hiking. Trails are a bit narrow and unkempt in a few spots but that may be due to it primarily being a mountain biking trail. A little bit difficult to find and not very much parking. Could use more detailed maps of trials and trail markers. It seems to be less crowded in the mornings and a little bit busier in the afternoon.

It offers areas for all ages if you want it set up activities in the field or have children play at the basketball court and playground. They staff are always helpful and able to clean any area brought to their attention. We have also went to the Tricker Trail event during Halloween for the past 2 years. The park has the trail set with so many different vendor for kids to walk through and get candy. It’s the perfect amount of space and you really get to see the beauty of what the park offers by walking the trails. Parking is good and the pond usually has ducks you can feed. Very great scenery.

Dog park
Nestled on a sprawling 15 acres, Soldan Dog Park is a delightful haven for pet owners looking to let their furry friends roam free and socialize. This public park features well-maintained walking trails and a serene pond, making it an ideal spot for both dogs and their humans to enjoy the great outdoors. Visitors will need to complete some paperwork upon arrival to obtain a day pass, which is a quick process that grants access via a key fob.
Best dog park we've found, in part because there are logistics and fees for access (need to submit license to county and pay fee for key fob). This means you get people dedicated to responsible ownership and a really good community. Lots of good trails, beaches, hangout areas, and a giant body of water to play in.
Geoffrey M — Google review
First time going to this dog park, we had to fill out some paperwork for my dog to get a day pass wasn't too much of a hassle was pretty quick process. The trail entering the dog park is paved and nice. You need a key fob to get into the park. Paying $6 for a day pass wasn't too bad when you consider they have a human and dog water fountain. And poop bags around the park. They also have a porta potty, needed cleaned and emptied but all in all happy to have bathroom access. The park has a dirt/ shaded path around the lake with multiple points of water access for the dogs. It also has some benches for resting. The lake was beautiful and my dog enjoyed swimming in it. The sand at the water access points was also very nice and well maintained. All in all the dogs and people I met at the park in the early afternoon were very friendly. My dog had a blast swimming and running around. I would bring her back. It was very relaxing to sit with her near the lake and just listen to the water and birds chirping.
Alisun S — Google review
We had to be able to get a day pass (there's a fob they give members, apparently) and I wasn't aware of that till we were there. The rest of the walkways were awesome though!!
Elisabeth M — Google review
I think it's a great place to spend the day whether you're by yourself, or with your family. Just to be able to get outside and enjoy a spring, or summer day. There is the huge playground for kids of all ages to play on and enjoy. There is the walking trails and paths that go all the way around the lake that you can enjoy walking or riding bikes also there are The pavilions that you can use or reserve to have family get together barbecues or celebrate a birthday party or whatever you're looking to do. During the summer they have to open beach in the splash pad. During winter months they have the sledding and toboggan hills! And they also have the dog park that you can pay for membership! My only complaint I believe they need to have more restrooms than what's available for the public to use you have to walk so far depending on where you are at to be able to use a bathroom especially if you're down at one of The pavilions or the children's playground it's quite a walk to get to a restroom to use other than that I believe it's a great place to hang out and take your kids or family
Andrew W — Google review
First and foremost, they actually have handicap parking near the dog park otherwise you have to walk quite a distance. But fortunately I only had to walk a small distance to find out that it is a members only dog park with a electronic tag on the gate. I should have known when I pulled in to the park and noticed that there is normally a parking fee to get into the park, and then when you get to the dog park there is a nice little sign that tells you where you can go get the dog park membership at? Which doesn't do you much good if you're already at the gate, maybe it would have been too hard for them to just have a little electronic card reader, kind of like at the car washes, where you could just slide your credit card and go on in? It does look like a nice dog park but it's real hard to tell from outside the gate. I also should have realized that when three or four people went by me without offering to let me into the park or even saying hi, especially the one wearing the T-shirt that was tie-dyed hearts? So anyway, if you go by a pass before you get here, you can save yourself a drive. But young lady and I are just going to move on down the road
ReflectDogs F — Google review
Tax to use taxed land because they put a chain link fence up and stock nit with poop bags... absolutely reduciculus fees from goverment clowns stealing money from the people to use public facilities. Since there is next to no cost to upkeep I imagine all the money goes to some corrupt politician. $6/day, and you have to go register somewhere or something to get a key from the crooks.
Luke P — Google review
This park is so full of themselves. They make you pay to enter the park, to park your car, and to get into the dog park! And you have to buy the dog park pass at a whole seperate place; it’s not even available at the park. Also, the one time we went to check it out, people were so rude and acted like we had the plague. Go to northern tail dog park instead, it’s completely free, it’s nicer, bigger, and they have more activities to do than at soldans dog park. Why waste your money? At Northern Tail dog park, the people are much nicer and like I said… FREE. Don’t support soldans, they don’t care about the safety or happiness of your dog, they care about money.

Bancroft Park is a hidden gem. It has three paved loops (hiking trails) with dirt trails branching off. Most of the trails are shaded by tall mature trees - a gorgeous setting. There's also a playground within the first loop. Not too busy but feels friendly.

The entrance has a parking spot for 3 to 4 vehicles. It does not have a map legend. Though the trail is very short a legend that shows where the trails go and how they connect to roads/the neighborhood would be nice. The woods have also been trampled through it looked like. It has a playground and at least two pond overlooks which are nice but it is just average when compared to other better managed parks.
Grant F — Google review
The south entrance has space for 15 vehicles, it has a map of the paved paths, there is a play group up the path a ways, there are four official entrances to the park. One each on Otto St (Main parking lot), Oak St, North St, David st (North Trail head), there is also an unofficial entrance on Whyte st. There are grills and picnic tables near the south entrance. Also, a water fountain.

Lovely little walk with my dog and I! We saw dear. We had to end a walk early because my dog heard some loud bangs in the distance. Not sure if that means there's some plant nearby that's doing work. But my dog gets spooked by those type of sounds. So I haven't seen the whole park just yet. If I'm nearby, I'll try to walk through there again.

Despite the recent findings of certain DISGUSTING drawings (and words), found throughout the Park, I still gave it 5 Stars, as it is a personal local favorite from my youth. I will say I love how they fixed the parking lot, but highly dislike how you can no longer drive to the playground anymore, so it was a long trip up and down for my disabled & elderly Mom. However, I do understand why it had to be done. People used to drive through there like crazy. I must warn people not to whistle in the park tho, 'cause according to the lil' chalk notes throughout the paths, it says, "whistle to get your d*** s***ed". If you exclude the crudeness of the person who wrote such things, the park itself is beautiful.

TBH I was looking for a place to dog walk. I'm rarely in this part of town. There is a nice ball diamond and a large paved parking lot. There is a paved bike trail that I explored a little. The woodlot adjoining the walkway has huge trees and dense undergrowth. Everything is will maintained. No play ground. I'm unsure where the trails go. One leads out to a huge electric company transfer station. Not exactly a natural wonder to behold. Overall I had a sensation of isolation. Probably a great spot to visit and wander with friends. All said and done a nice shot. Probably had more to offer than I discovered today.

Comstock Park is a nice place to visit and is just a short distance from the downtown area on Maumee st. The river water feature is very pretty and peaceful. During the Christmas season it lights up the town with so many trees being decorated. It adds a bit of "magic" to the season for children

A lovely park in winter, filled with Christmas trees dedicated by specific groups or families. Music plays throughout the park as you walk the paths and admire the different decorations. A few trees have free socks or other items hanging on them for those in need. The entire display becomes somewhat repetitive, but on the whole, but it’s a nice addition to the town and has become somewhat of a tradition for my family to visit. It is also especially good this year to have someplace to get outside in winter during COVID!

Park
Hunters Orchard Park is a delightful destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts alike. Spanning approximately 26 acres along the scenic Grand River, this park features a well-maintained walkway that alternates between smooth pavement and charming gravel paths. As you stroll, you'll be serenaded by the sounds of countless birds while keeping an eye out for playful squirrels and even deer wandering through the area. The paved path stretches about 0.
Beautiful accessible trail, with at least two grills. Portable bathrooms are available by the parking area. Beware of poison ivy..
Leslie L — Google review
Nice park situated along the Grand River. Park is listed as 26 acres but seems a little larger due to being situated next to the Capital Area Sportsmen League. The two areas are separated by a thin wire link fence and are clearly separated. The park has many (borderline too many) picnic spots (I think about 7) along a .65 mile paved path. They are comprised of at least one picnic table, a grill, and a nice view of the river. They are either on or very near the paved path and thus could be wheel chair accessible. The paved path walks along the southern bank of the Grand River, and constitutes almost half of the loops ranging from about half a mile, three-quarters of a mile, and 1.3 mile all adding on to each other... The path is nice, but the two sides of the loops are relatively on top of each other, you can see both sides of the path for 90% of the trail. The unpaved path section is gravel and gets pretty saturated during the wetter months. Looks like they are building a canoe/kayak launch near the parking lot. Id normally have given the park a 3 star review, but it's nice to have a park this close to the city. Two minutes from Horrocks.
Bob S — Google review
The park is a nice place but average. It needs some TLC. What I mean is that Google takes you to a trail head but the pavement ends not far up the path and then leads you on a curvy path on gravel and sometimes grass that could use up keep. I also saw some piles of dog poo that dog walkers need to do a better job of looking after their pets. One thing I did like is the small fishing box along the river for those who don't own kayaks.

They finally in the last 2 years have real bathrooms open. Clean water. In the lake (pond). A few years ago my niece had to have stitches in her foot because some idiot did not pick up their broken glass on the beach, but send to be cleaner now.

Also known as " The pit" We take our dog here almost daily. It's a nice fairly big space with some hilly areas when you first enter, a place to play volleyball, a beach, playset (swings, slides) bathrooms and behind the bathroom another fairly big area with a hill. A trail to the left that loops or you could climb down to go around the water. Relaxing but you do have to watch out for people with dogs off leash. The only other thing is I wish the trails were cleaned up more, a lot of dead trees. This is a good place to come hang with the family to cool off on a sunny day.
Miranda N — Google review
Been going here my whole life. Love it. They have cleaned it up nice and the store is open. Police patrol regularly that I've seen.
Sarah L — Google review
Great place to go with family to have fun for the day will go again
Tammy A — Google review
I have always loved coming here, since 1972. Boy it sure brings back memories, I remember my grandmother and the lifeguard throwing a fit when I swam across it, boy was I in trouble lmao. This time over 50 years later we all enjoyed a small family reunion and my wife made us a fantastic picnic. YOU GO GIRL

A nice family friendly atmosphere!!!

Even though it was Memorial Day it didn't feel crowded. Which surprised me because all the parking spaces were full. People were BBQing and families were hanging out. Our kids, 10 and 11, played with a variety of kids and they were all very nice. Just an overall pleasant day.

Nice open fields and shady groves of trees. Also on the river. Very peaceful.

Mixed feelings. Nice peaceful park with beautiful ball diamonds and inviting shady spots for relaxing. The little BMX park looks really cool ( though I've never seen it open). It often is littered with the trash cans over flowing. The pavement on the drives and parking lots are in bad need of repair. I wish it had a nice walkers path and a big dog park.
Mandolinman58 — Google review
It's getting better. There are a lot of bugs
Chris J — Google review
Great location to play frisbee and baseball/softball. The grounds are rather well kept, grass mowed often. The only problem is the bathrooms and drinking fountain are shut down currently.
Brian G — Google review
It was a nice place for my son's dance group to practice and get ready for their performance at the Lugnuts Baseball Game on Sunday at 1:00. They are a group of children and adults that do Folkloric Dancing, if you're interested come check them out.
Rose B — Google review
The outfield is filled with holes and divets and is very uneven when playing anywhere near center field. Other than that it's a nice infield and park overall. Nice swings and playground.
James D — Google review
If you are looking for a huge grassy field this is your spot!! Occasionally there’s a softball game going on but other than that it’s super quiet and relaxing.
William W — Google review
This feild has lights. This field also has a couple uneven spots and sometimes the grass gets tall but still a nice place to play.

This is a cute little park, right around the corner from our house. I always drive past here and usually never see anyone there. It’s been frequented quite a few times in the past! Before COVID hit, there were balls that were left there for the kids to use. That was really nice to see! Let’s make that happen again! I might put some in the ball holders next spring! It’s so lovely to see kids playing outside and not on their phones and tablets!
Michael E — Google review
I rarely see anyone here, probably because its street parking only. It's got all the essentials: swings, slides, those bouncy 'horses', and picnic tables. There's lots of shade from some older trees and the road noise isn't too bad on a Saturday morning. Highly recommend for an old fashioned picnic in the park with your pre-teen kids. Bring charcoal and hot dogs!
Marcus D — Google review
i love that its small, off the beaten path, never busy it is fenced ( good for dogs small kids) BUT during the summer whether it was 8am or 3pm and sunny. so many knats

It's a quiet park with a small trail that follows the river a decent ways. The bugs weren't too bad late August-October, but I imagine they'll get worse during the summer months so make sure you bring some bug spray just in case. The trail is decently well cleared, but not very accessible as it's neither paved nor entirely flat. Update: the bugs remained not terrible through most of the summer! Mosquitos sure but not crazy like some of the parks in the area.

Fulton Park (which connects to Fine Park) is a hidden gem. The trails are in pretty good shape (despite the ruts from mountain bikes) and the views along the river are really lovely. Appreciate the dog-friendly hike option!

Franklyn S — Google review
Great start or ending point to the bike/walking trails. Nice view of the river and they have Concerts during the summer. Downside is the payground was updated but not a lot of equipment for the kids.
B G — Google review
Small urban neighborhood park adjacent to the Grand River. Family friendly with playground. Limited trails geared for trail bike riders. Nice overlook of the river.

With its inviting atmosphere, guests can relax and recharge while soaking in the natural beauty surrounding them.
