Millennium Park, located in the heart of downtown Chicago, is a 24.5-acre modern park that has been recognized as a top attraction in the Midwest. It features iconic sites such as the famous Cloud Gate sculpture, also known as The Bean, and the interactive Crown Fountain. Visitors can enjoy free concerts and movie screenings at the Frank Gehry-designed Pritzker Pavilion during summer. The park also boasts beautiful gardens like Lurie Garden with its diverse variety of plants.
Definitely a very popular place to visit while in Chicago! Beautiful park with mature trees, areas to walk, see, and explore. The Bean is beautiful and very popular, lots of tourists. You can observe the different architecture of the buildings from different places in the park. I had a great experience overall☺️
Julissa M — Google review
🌳 My Visit to Millennium Park, Chicago My visit to Millennium Park was an unforgettable experience and one of the best highlights of Chicago. Located right in the heart of downtown, this beautiful urban park perfectly blends art, architecture, and nature — making it a must-visit spot for both tourists and locals. The first thing that caught my eye was the iconic Cloud Gate sculpture, famously known as “The Bean.” Its mirrored surface beautifully reflects the Chicago skyline and is a fantastic place for photos — especially in the morning or around sunset. I also loved walking through the Crown Fountain, with its interactive digital faces and shallow water area — a fun place to relax, especially for families and children. The Jay Pritzker Pavilion, designed by Frank Gehry, is another architectural masterpiece where you can enjoy free concerts and events during summer. The park’s landscaping is stunning, especially at the Lurie Garden, which offers peaceful walking paths and colorful flowers amidst the city’s tall buildings. 📍 Tips for Visitors: • Best visited during the morning or evening for great lighting and fewer crowds. • Free entry, and most attractions are within walking distance. • Combine your visit with the nearby Art Institute of Chicago and Maggie Daley Park. Overall, Millennium Park is a beautiful symbol of modern Chicago — vibrant, artistic, and full of life. A perfect spot to relax, take photos, and enjoy the city’s creative energy. 🌆✨
Shanz S — Google review
Kinda a must see if in Chicago and if you catch it in early morning you could definitely get some great shots of the Bean and the City Scapes it provides. Very popular attraction with large crowds coming and going all day and into the evening. We had limited time while in town and was able to walk from our hotel to visit. Spent about and hour getting photos and watching the crowds.
Jim M — Google review
Millennium Park is one of the most beautiful and well-maintained parks I’ve ever visited. The atmosphere is lively yet relaxing, with people of all ages enjoying the open spaces. The Cloud Gate sculpture—often called “The Bean”—is even more impressive in person, especially when it reflects the city skyline and the clouds above. The park is always clean, and there are plenty of benches and shaded areas for resting. During the summer, the fountain area becomes a favorite spot for families and kids to cool off, while in winter, the ice-skating rink brings a completely different charm. It’s also conveniently connected to other attractions like the Art Institute and Michigan Avenue, making it easy to spend an entire afternoon here. Whether you’re taking photos, jogging, or just sitting with a coffee watching the city move, Millennium Park offers a perfect balance of art, nature, and architecture. Definitely a must-visit spot in Chicago!
Pipi C — Google review
Millennium Park was one of my go-to spots while visiting Chicago, and it absolutely lived up to the hype! It's such a well-known park especially for "The Bean" and you can instantly see why. Everyone is taking pictures, smiling, and just enjoying the atmosphere. The area is clean, vibrant, and surrounded by Chicago's incredible skyline, which makes every photo look like a postcard. Whether you're there to relax, people-watch, or just take in the energy of the city, Millennium Park delivers. It's one of those places that truly captures the spirit of Chicago lively, artistic, and welcoming. Definitely worth a visit if you're in town!
Arelys Q — Google review
🌳 Review: Millennium Park, Chicago The Millennium Park in Chicago is an artistic and refreshing public space that perfectly combines modern architecture, creativity, and relaxation. It is one of the city’s must-visit attractions and a place where people can truly enjoy both nature and art together. The highlight for me was the digital fountain (Crown Fountain) — a tall glass structure displaying the image of a person whose face moves naturally, and water flows gently from the mouth as if it were alive. The movement of the images and the reflection of light and water create a mesmerizing and peaceful scene, especially when viewed up close. Equally impressive is the Cloud Gate, popularly known as “The Bean.” When you walk inside the sculpture and look upward, it gives a feeling of infinite reflections and depth, showing the sky, people, and surroundings in a spectacular, mirrored view. It’s both playful and thought-provoking — a wonderful example of modern art blending with science and design. Overall, Millennium Park is a fantastic place to spend time with friends or family, take photographs, or simply sit and enjoy the artistic energy of Chicago. The reflections, lights, and lively atmosphere make it one of the city’s most memorable experiences.

Loved spending time at Millennium Park! Super clean, vibrant, and full of life. The Bean is iconic, but the gardens and fountains make it even more special. Great place to chill and people-watch!
RAHUL V — Google review
Beautiful moments spent here. I would recommend to visit this public park if visiting downtown Chicago. It is a tourist attraction. There were a lot of people here, especially around the Bean, The fountain area is so nice where the faces change on the structures. It is a nice area to walk around and spend some beautiful times with love ones. Admission is free, that helps the area being packed up with people from all around the world.

Maggie Daley Park is a popular recreational area located between Millennium Park and Lake Michigan in Chicago. Opened in 2014, it offers fun for the whole family with a play garden featuring climbing towers, slides, swings, and splash zones. The park also features an ice skating ribbon, sports fields, picnic areas, and amazing views. Its most popular attraction is the quarter-mile skating ribbon that can be used for ice skating in winter or renting roller skates or scooters in summer.
Brilliant design work by the MVVA team. From a landscape architecture perspective, this is one of my favorite playgrounds to take the kids too. The kids can play and I can slow pace around studying the plants and overall design. Simply incredible how well the trees are growing considering it is in a green roof over a parking garage! The park is showing its age in good and bad ways. The trees are reaching maturity and we are finally starting to realize the full design intent, but some of the play surface is really worn. With more funding, maintenance could probably be improved. With the age and popularity (crazy foot traffic) everything is holding up pretty well.
Justin L — Google review
Really nice. Great views of the city, nice open spaces with a lot of green space. Plenty of play areas for kids. Also water games. Also a mini golf, would’ve liked to do that if I had time. Don’t go there in the evening though if you’re not covered up. I got eaten alive by mosquitoes
Isabelle R — Google review
This park is such a gem and truly one of the things that makes Chicago stand out compared to other big cities. It’s clean, safe, and never feels overcrowded, which makes every visit enjoyable and stress-free. The playgrounds are especially well thought out, with sections that have just one or two entrances, making it much easier for parents to keep an eye on their kids. The sheer size of the playground is impressive, with different areas designed for kids to run, climb, and play in a safe and fun environment. What’s great is that while there are plenty of activities available, from miniature golf to rock climbing, all of the playgrounds themselves are completely free, which makes it accessible for everyone. It’s the perfect spot for families, whether you’re letting the little ones burn off energy or just enjoying the calm, well-kept surroundings. The park’s cleanliness and peaceful atmosphere make it a place worth coming back to again and again.
Ethan P — Google review
Such a great park for kids! The slides near the rope bridge were a huge hit, and my kids couldn’t get enough of climbing on the whale and the lighthouse slide. Definitely a must if you’re downtown with little ones.

Needing a Solo date in the park ? Place to be ! Tennis players here is your area to shine ! Best place for kids many play areas.

Maggie Daley Park is a fun and energetic place that feels perfect for families and anyone who loves being outdoors. The playground areas are huge and creative, giving kids plenty to explore and enjoy. I especially liked the walking paths and open spaces, which make it easy to relax or take a casual stroll. The park is always clean and well-maintained, even when it gets busy. Overall, it’s a lively and cheerful spot that adds a lot of charm to the Chicago lakefront.

The park is named after Ping Tom, a prominent Chinese-American civic leader and offers winding nature trails, a pagoda-style pavilion, and an impressive fieldhouse with a second-story patio and green roof.
A lovely place to take a walk and enjoy the scenery. We went for a walk after lunch and it was so lovely! The weather was nice and a great walk overall. Highly recommend for a quick walk, it has a lot of benches for you to sit and enjoy PS: The place looks secluded/abandoned during winter, that’s the entrance! Once you’re in ours super beautiful

Garfield Park Conservatory is a stunning horticultural center located within the expansive Garfield Park. This enchanting oasis spans about 12 acres and features an impressive variety of plants from around the world. Visitors can explore towering palm trees, fragrant orchids, seasonal blooms, and a traditional Moroccan fountain. The conservatory also houses the Desert House, showcasing a diverse collection of cacti and succulent plants.
I absolutely adore the Garfield Park Conservatory. It is a magnificent space filled with beautiful exotic plants of varied sizes and colors that are a feast for the eyes. My husband and I took countless photos with our large bridal party (total of 18 people) at this beautiful spacious place. We had plenty of beautiful and diverse places to take nature photos. With larger accessible walkways our group with ladies in heels could easily navigate to the many rooms of this huge conservatory to take all our dream photos within an hour. The windows throughout the conservatory provided beautiful natural light without the direct sun in our eyes, which made the wedding day comfortable and the photos come out stunning. We reserved our time slot tickets months in advance for all our bridal party, photographer, videographer and extra guests. Our party bus parked across the street and was able to pull up right in front of the conservatory to drop us off and pick us up without issue. We highly recommend this place for any occasion!
Aquasira — Google review
Garfield Park Conservatory is an absolute gem in the heart of Chicago! From the moment you walk in, you’re surrounded by lush greenery, vibrant blooms, and beautifully curated garden spaces. Each room offers something unique—from tropical rainforests to desert landscapes—and the attention to detail is truly impressive. It’s peaceful, educational, and a feast for the senses. Whether you’re a plant lover or just looking for a relaxing escape from the city, this place delivers. The staff is friendly and informative, and the conservatory is well-maintained. Best of all, admission is donation-based, making it accessible for everyone. Highly recommend spending a couple of hours here—it’s a great experience for all ages!
Venita N — Google review
Such a lovely gem in Chicago! Reservations cost $10 and they have free parking. I went on a whim and was so glad that I did. Make sure to visit the outdoor area to get a nice little walk in. It is hot and humid in there so dress appropriately! Definitely recommend.
Nancy S — Google review
Beautiful rare big plants! I love it. Just the front entry under repair. We went around to get inside. For old couple and disable were so hard, but it worth it. It will be nice if they accommodate for seniors with make it easier to go inside and wonder around
Rusiana M — Google review
I almost cried when I first walked in, surrounded by such a vast assortment of carefully adored plants. I guess I’m a huge plant nerd. Experiencing the quiet power of such a wide variety of life taking root to define the structure is a sensory adventure of sight, smell, and touch. The decades of history each species has absorbed stretches, curls, and unfurls all the way to the ceiling, encapsulating you within their world as welcome friends to curiosity. It’s a sacred space to experience small pieces of our enormous world through the outstretched leaves of creatures so much older than our imaginations quest to comprehend. If you look really closely the best parts of all can be the tiny moments of silliness sprinkled throughout; a tiny toy tyrannosaur peeking through fronds, a portly desert potted plant gazing back at you with its googly eye, a neon orange plastic giraffe posed as if perusing the well watered display for an afternoon snack. There’s enormous opportunity for education, particularly with regard to native flora and promotion of environmental care. Monarch butterflies, for example, are incredible yet endangered beings and their host plant, milkweed, grows in over 30 different beautiful varieties as their food source. Different plants are best suited for importantly different parts of our world, and people and pollinators deserve to appreciate and take part in our lived symbiosis. This is a wonder filled place for environmental reverence.
Christina M — Google review
This was a very nice conservatory. It has a lot of property and what is inside is quality and very nice. It is also easy to get to if you are taking the Metra train with a station right at the conservatory. Also, they have their own parking lot and it was not busy during the week, so easy to park. It is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays though. There is a nominal fee to enter, but if you show proof you live in Chicago, it is free. Also, we are members of another garden and we got in free with reciprocal membership.
Beth W — Google review
Fantastic conservatory on the south side of Chicago. It’s indoors, so you can go in the winter too. They have a wide variety of plants and flowers on display from around the world. The staff is very friendly and thy also have a gift and coffee shop.

As a professional wedding officiant with Forever Incredible, I’ve had the absolute joy of working at the Garfield Park Conservatory many times—and every visit leaves me more in love with this incredible venue. It’s hands-down one of my favorite spots in all of Chicago for elopements, intimate celebrations, and full-sized weddings alike. The beauty of the Conservatory is truly unmatched. Each space—from the Fern Room to the Palm House—has its own unique charm and ambiance, creating a lush, romantic backdrop for any ceremony. No matter the season, it's a vibrant, living oasis in the heart of the city. The staff is consistently kind, welcoming, and professional. They always greet me with a smile and make sure I know exactly where I’m headed. Their hospitality and care help set the tone for a relaxed and joyful celebration. If you’re looking for a venue that feels like a natural wonderland while still being in Chicago, the Garfield Park Conservatory is it. I’m always honored to officiate ceremonies there and can’t recommend it highly enough.

The park features statues of beloved characters from the story such as the Tin Man, Scarecrow, Cowardly Lion, Dorothy and Toto. Visitors can explore the Emerald Gardens and enjoy various recreational facilities including tennis and basketball courts.
What an awesome park! I walked up here from downtown (on a scavenger hunt - a friend set me on an adventure to see a bunch of things). It was raining a little when I got there, and evening, so the park was near empty. I loved the Oz theme!!

I did an in-home family session near Oz Park in June and it was the perfect location to go explore outside as a little break. Love the garden area so much!!

A super cute and small park. I loved walking around, trying to find the statues. The Emerald City Gardens were very inviting and a nice place to relax

Second visit here since being a mom. First was summer of 2023 with kid being 6 month old and we had relaxed on our mat. Now with them at 2.5 of age, we had so much more fun. We played in the playground, ran and did hide and seek and practiced balancing our bike. We will go there often now that kid is grown up enough to enjoy the variety.

This was a nice little park to stroll through. Especially if you want to feel nostalgic with some Wizard of Oz. There’s several locations throughout the park with statues of different characters from the show. Not to far from Lincoln Park Zoo.

Oz Park is a little slice of the Land of Oz right smack dab in the middle of Chicago. Also: there are tennis courts, a playground, and a baseball diamond.

Oz Park is such a charming and fun place to visit, especially for families. The Wizard of Oz theme makes it unique, with statues of Dorothy, the Tin Man, and other characters adding a magical touch. The playground is well-maintained and perfect for kids, while adults can relax in the beautiful garden areas. It’s a lovely spot to enjoy a sunny afternoon or take a peaceful walk.

Oz Park is such a charming and whimsical spot in the city! The Wizard of Oz theme gives it a fun and magical vibe, with statues of Dorothy, the Tin Man, and the Scarecrow scattered around. It’s clean, peaceful, and great for both kids and adults to enjoy a stroll or relax on the grass. The playground is fantastic, and there’s always a friendly community feel in the air.

So much fun! I brought my daughter here when she was 5 y.o She's now 18 and ask to visit this park when we came into town. She was excited to show her brother this park and they now built memories together

India Boundary Park is a lovely spot for families and nature lovers. The tall trees and colorful flowers create a beautiful setting for a picnic parties. The fountain pond is a highlight, filled with fish, turtles, and ducks that add a lively touch. Kids will enjoy the round water area with three cute teddy bear statues and a fun splash zone. There’s also a great playhouse with swings and a large wooden structure for climbing and exploring. Overall, India Boundary Park is a fantastic place to relax or have fun with family. It's definitely worth a visit!

Beautiful park with so much charm and character! The huge old trees provide plenty of shade, making it a comfortable place to relax or play even on warmer days. The equipment is well-maintained, creative, and engaging, offering kids a lot to explore while adults can enjoy the peaceful surroundings. There’s also a surprising amount of nature to observe, from plants to small animals, which adds to the experience. The vintage field house gives the park a classic, timeless feel, and the staff and manager are helpful and welcoming. The highlight of the park is definitely the wooden playground, which feels like a maze filled with over a dozen unique structures—perfect for kids to climb, explore, and use their imagination. With clean trails for walking, a pond with a small fountain, picnic tables, and even portable garbage cans spread out for convenience, it’s both practical and enjoyable. Whether you’re here for a picnic, volleyball, a stroll, or just to let the kids play, this park has plenty to offer.

This is a really great park in a lot of ways. Set off from busy roads, a lot of space with walking trails, mature trees, a pond & fountain, etc. There's also tennis courts (haven't looked closely so can't speak to their condition), a play space with little buildings, and then, of course, the old school wooden playground (with a splash right right next to it). My son loves this playground, so unique and large. Last one like it that I'm aware of in the area (except for the newly redone one at Oz Park). However, the playground and around it are showing their age. Weeds and grass covers large areas of the prevously mulched space (much different looking compared to reviews from 7 years ago). Almost all the old tire and chain walkways are broken. And there is, at least today when we visited, so much trash scattered around, even though there are large trash cans available throughout the park. But.... there's really no other park quite like Indian Boundary. It's not our "neighborhood, walk to park", but we make the drive over when we can because it's cool here. My son loves it and it brings back good memories playing on old wooden playgrounds myself as a kid.

Northerly Island, located near Chicago's Museum Campus, is a 91-acre peninsula offering stunning views of the city skyline and Lake Michigan. The island features the Huntington Bank Pavilion, an outdoor concert venue with seating for up to 30,000 people. Visitors can enjoy nature trails, gardens, and play areas while taking in panoramic views of downtown Chicago.
This is hidden gem park near the lake! Still under development and construction in some parts but worth the walk, run or bike ride for the views and overall openness! Check pictures below and more @bydavidrosales

I was walking along the lake when I stumbled upon a path leading to Northerly Island. The stroll was incredibly peaceful, offering lovely views of Soldier Field and the gentle ripples of the water. My favorite part was the stunning artwork some of the path. Check out the attached pictures! If you find yourself in the Chicago area and crave a refreshing walk or run surrounded by nature instead of buildings, this is the perfect spot!

When they do events here, don't miss it, best venue in Chicago hands down, the art, the vibe, and the lake breeze. It leaves nothing to be desired for a day out or a live music experience.

This venue was easily accessible from Route 41(Lake Shore Drive) and it was a short walk from the parking lot to the stage. The sound was great and the staff was friendly and welcoming. Lots of places to eat, grab drinks, and use the restrooms. Overall it was a very pleasant experience and I enjoyed it very much. 10/10 will visit again soon.

Great venue to see a show. Not a bad seat in the place. The sound was good at the show I saw. The bathroom situation was decent, not much of a wait. It's location makes it a bit of a walk to get to, but doable.
Danna K — Google review
I attended the Cookout concert today and was very unimpressed with the venue layout and the process for getting in. I showed up about 5 minutes before the concert started and the line was wrapped around at least .5 mile long. They were channeling everyone through two lines and a handful of security checkpoints. I get to the security guy and he tells me my 14” crossbody doesn’t fit in the box and I’ll have to check the bag for $10 🙄 I finally get it after missing half of the first act standing in line for 30 minutes and I have to walk a quarter mile just to get to my seat. I was thirsty so I bought a water which costs $7! Overpriced and inconvenient location- the trek alone took 30 minutes and signage to how to get there from the Metra station was non existent. At least offer complimentary rides to elderly guests if you’re charging $25 for drinks.
Britney B — Google review
A wonderful place to walk or bike. The tranquility makes you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere though you can see the beautiful skyline of Chicago in the distant. The city is restoring the place to its original prairie habitat. It used to be an airfield which was used by executives of downtown companies and one night the mayor had it bulldozed. In the summer all the prairie wild flowers are blooming. Birds and butterflies are attracted to the place. The trail connects with the bike trail which goes up and down the lake front.

Nestled within Chicago's Lincoln Park, the Alfred Caldwell Lily Pool, also known as the Lincoln Park Lily Pool, is a tranquil oasis and National Historic Landmark. Designed by landscape architect Alfred Caldwell in 1936, this hidden gem features lush landscaping, curving walkways, limestone pathways, circular benches for relaxation and scenic views. Managed by the Lincoln Park Conservancy, it offers a serene escape from the bustling city.
What an amazing hidden gem right near Lincoln Park Zoo & Conservatory. The entrance was a little bit tricky to find but once inside, it’s so peaceful, serene & picturesque. There were a few people getting professional photos taken & others who were meditating & enjoying the calmness. Totally worth a visit. Pro tip: you can park in the Lincoln park zoo lot for up to 30 minutes for free if you want to do a quick walk around the lily pool without paying for parking.

This is a beautiful spot, but please DO NOT book your special event here until AFTER they are re-open to the public / done with the construction!!! I’ve been hearing stories from other photographers talking about how it was not communicated to them that there would still be construction supplies laid out, or that there would be way less mess than there really was. Unfortunately today, our intimate wedding group fell victim to this, as the whole pavilion area was pretty much unusable, which was not communicated to them. To top it off, the employee who was there to let us in (slightly heavy set, middle aged white guy), interrupted the entire wedding ceremony and SCREAMED at me for standing somewhere I shouldn’t have while taking photos. Which yes, my bad, this was a misunderstanding and I took a path I assumed was clear, but was not. Regardless, the way he reacted was as if I was ripping out plants and destroying the property or something, not an exaggeration. There are so many more respectful, graceful ways he could have gone about that, rather than damn near ruining the most important moment of this poor couple’s lives. He threatened to fine us/kick us out, despite no prior offenses from us. The bride was crying, everybody was flustered, and THEN accused us of trespassing on the way out (???) Absolutely ridiculous. There’s some huge faults in their communication they need to work out, along with (hopefully) suspending and re-training this dude who threw a tantrum because I was standing on a rock I shouldn’t have been. I wish I got his name, this was on 7/11/25. Insane.

Really cool place in Lincoln Park. Located behind the conservatory close to the Nature Museum. I got free parking close to the zoo. A wonderful way to escape the city and go for a walk, or just sit and relax. There is a small waterfall. The pond had so many lilies. Lots of wedding photographers around the central area. The pond is also home to turtles, fishes and some birds.
Ajimon T — Google review
We had to change our wedding ceremony venue a week before our event back in June.....It took them 2-3 weeks to respond to our emails/calls about us walking the venue one last time to get an idea before our ceremony. The place is still under construction, the paths are all grown over, weeds everywhere, and not maintained. They claimed "We will clear it up before our event".. BS since they had a wedding ceremony that same day.. DO NOT BOOK AN EVENT THIS YEAR.
Jacob H — Google review
Closed for 2 years for WHAT? They rebuilt a tiny wooden structure that should have taken a month to complete (easily finished off season). Meanwhile the rest of the area looks like crap, the worst condition it's been in since i started spending lots of time here ten years ago. Everything is overgrown, the entire pond is covered in scum and algae, they closed one of the paths, no idea why, and it looks like nobody has given any maintenance to it in 3 months or more. Yes, they've managed to shut down a space for two years and actually make it much WORSE, in true chicago fashion. What a waste of what was formerly my favorite spot in the city.

Hannah I — Google review
The stone works here is incredible and was done in a way that looks natural and blends beautifully with the pond. The pond has ducks and you may see bull frogs if not you will hear the mating calls if in season. Very relaxing place and has places to sit and enjoy the scenery. Parking is an issue, just note the closest place to park is at the zoo and it is expensive.

Gorgeous grounds etc. Our family were interested in the building, history, & architecture. Unfortunately, we were politely but actively discouraged from checking out the public building & restaurant by a woman who worked there who overly encouraged us to check the outdoor grounds we'd already seen. At one point she walked us towards the closed doors of the ballroom, took her keys out (to show our family the space, we assumed) only to lock said doors once we all arrived at them. :( Somebody ought to let her know the place is no longer a private, exclusive club.
Kathryn G — Google review
Went in to show friends the beautiful facilities. Wonderful security guard took us into some of the locked rooms. It was beautiful! Very kind of her to give us a peak. She told us about the summer concerts that are held at the site. We will look into those events as we love this building. It is a paid parking lot, but the prices are cheap. I want to come back and walk the lakefront from this location. It is a popular wedding and event venue. The building is beautiful and well maintained. The grounds are gorgeous. Beautiful flowers during the summer.

Really enjoyed visiting this lakefront spot after so many years! The park is small but lovely, tucked on the Southside, and kept nice and clean. Early on, it’s peaceful and perfect for a jog, with great trails and an awesome view of the Chicago skyline. Parking is very affordable with pay-to-park options, which makes it convenient. Later in the evening the crowd can get a bit rowdy, but overall the atmosphere is lively and welcoming, with an amazing local community. A fantastic place to relax, exercise, and take in the views!

Such a beautiful and peaceful spot to visit, offering some of the clearest water along the Chicago lakefront. It’s easily one of the best places to enjoy the city’s natural beauty, and what makes it even better is how accessible it is by different modes of transportation. The beach houses provide basic facilities, which is convenient, and the overall atmosphere—especially on a weekend morning—is surprisingly quiet and relaxing. The park itself is lovely, located on the Southside with affordable pay-to-park options and a warm, welcoming local community. It’s a fantastic place to go for a jog, take a leisurely walk, or even ride your bike along the trails. What really sets it apart is the breathtaking skyline view you get from here. A terrific example of reclamation. Take an old dirty piece of property and turn it into a park. Take some of the concrete walls that are impractical to destroy and adaptively reuse them. And yes, the place was practically empty. A nice place to walk, some great views of the lake, and no one around to bother you. We had a wonderful afternoon here, and the lake breeze even helped us cool off.

The experience was highly motivating and enjoyable. The volunteer staff members are exceptional and dedicated to ensuring participant safety. The climbing routes present a significant challenge. Furthermore, rappelling is available to descend the wall. This location is recommended for individuals seeking a venue for both free and assisted climbing activities.

They made good use of an abandoned industrial plot. There is a climbing wall made from the leftover concrete walls from the U.S. steel plant. There are areas to picnic. You can fish from the slip from the old mill. Getting access to the lake at other points involves some rock climbing. They could make it better by adding some concrete pads at the lake front so you don't have to climb the rocks.

It has natural wildflower areas with walking paths, open fields, giant weeping willows, etc. I remember when we moved to Chicago over 5 years ago, and we didn't live near Winnema then but happened up on it and was so amazed by what parks the city had to offer. The only "negative" is that now with young children, the playground area is, compared to other spots like Welles, River, Hamlin, Walsh, etc., pretty dated, small, and basic. But really, that's nitpicking, and not enough to detract from a truly 5 star park

Been coming here riding my bike thru the park for 12 + years. Generally safe , always clean and active w kids and neighborhood folk. Its a co-op arrangement w a local high school. Well done Chicago!

Extraordinary park in the city with entwined trails and little nature jelly. They likewise have a jungle gym, baseball fields, tennis courts and seats. Decent quieting air where loads of various individuals come to home base, walk, and outing.

Very spacey and relaxing! Perfect for dog walking or just to have some break from a busy city life. The Bikram Yoga studio I'm part of is offering classes at the park every Sunday morning and that's the way I learn about this area. Highly recommended

Lovely neighborhood 🏡 Lovely park 🌺🌲🐰🐦🦋 Usually nice and quiet. My only wish would be for people to keep their dogs on the leash 🐕And also, the bathrooms are missing as is the case with most parks 🫤

This small but beautiful park is located near my house. It suits me completely - its views, benches, a place to walk the dog. There is a green atmosphere everywhere.

Union Park, located in the West Loop area of Chicago, spans 13.46 acres and is a popular destination for various outdoor activities. The park features playing fields, basketball courts, a theater, and a fitness center. It is also known for hosting major music festivals like Pitchfork and North Coast Music Festival.
Easy parking makes visiting this park stress-free, and it’s the kind of place where you could easily spend an entire day. It’s a nice-sized park that often hosts festivals or concerts on one side, while others enjoy picnics or quiet time on the other. The children’s jungle gym and playground are well designed and spacious, making it great for families. Beyond that, the park offers tennis courts, basketball courts, and a pool, plus open areas perfect for throwing a ball around or enjoying a picnic. The skyline views add an extra touch, and the free parking is a huge bonus. While the park isn’t the largest, it more than makes up for it with its amenities and welcoming atmosphere.

Union Park is a great place to unwind and enjoy some fresh air right in the city. The park has plenty of open space for picnics, sports, or just relaxing under the trees. It’s clean, safe, and often hosts fun community events that bring people together. I really like the welcoming vibe and how peaceful it feels despite being in a busy area.
Emili P — Google review
Union Park is a welcome salvation from the urban sprawl around the United center. Though a little out of the way, it's a nice walk and a great way to spend an hour. Weird stuff happens here sometimes, like parties where people drive on and park on the field. But it's whatever I guess.
Matthew — Google review
Pitchfork 2021 was hosted at this park. The concert was fantastic, and the park fulfilled its purposes. There is ample open space, and a plentiful amount of trees that keep the skyline looking lush and green. The downside was the dirt. It was dusty, black, and stuck to you as you walked through the park. You will definitely need to shower after coming here. The grass is all dead, and the straw that remains does get everywhere as well. Overall the park is beautiful to look at, just don't run around too much.
George M — Google review
Very big park in a great location that is great for community gatherings. It can use some upgrades to the baseball fields, playgrounds, and swimming pool. It is easy to get to because it's on a major street artery, and it is right under the Ashland stop for the Green/Pink Line. It could use one more basketball court, and some more upkeep when it comes to concerts and festivals. Parking is very scarce over here so please be patient or take public transportation.
Otis G — Google review
Pretty nice park wedged between two busy streets. More for sports than a quiet stroll. Has tennis and basketball courts, gym and pool, and baseball diamonds. Some garbage scattered about but not too bad. Has a great jungle gym for kids

Art museum
The Art Institute of Chicago is a renowned art museum that boasts an extensive collection of nearly 300,000 works from various cultures and time periods. Since its establishment in the late 1800s, the institute has grown to become one of America's largest art museums. Visitors can explore ancient Egyptian and Greek artifacts, iconic impressionist pieces by Monet and Van Gogh, as well as contemporary works by artists like Picasso, Warhol, and Pollock.
The Art Institute of Chicago is an absolute must-visit and one of the best museums in the U.S. We used the CityPASS, which gave us express entry — no long lines, a big plus! The museum is huge and beautifully curated, featuring world-famous masterpieces by Monet, Van Gogh, and many other renowned artists. The layout makes it easy to navigate, and there are plenty of clean restrooms throughout. I appreciated the bag check area where you can safely leave larger items, though small bags and water bottles are allowed inside. The souvenir shop is also impressive — large and filled with unique art-inspired items. Whether you’re an art lover or a casual visitor, this museum is a Chicago highlight and a must-see attraction downtown. Spent around three hours there but could spend the whole day if we don't have other plans.

One of the best art museums I’ve ever been to. The building and location was great, how the galleries were entering through each other was really interesting. Pro-tip: use their guide! It felt more than amazing to see a lot of Monet’s painting of one collection next to each other. And seeing Van Gogh’s brush stroke felt really special. My favorite artists that had their famous artworks in this museum were: Edward Hopper - Van Gogh - Monet - George Surat- Paul Cézanne - Whistler - Hammershoi Also, their lighting was really good. Their art shop was amazing! I bought beautiful postcards for 1.5 $ and a lot of fun items from different artists. I highly recommend visiting this museum if you’re in Chicago, and setting at least 3 hours of free time to enjoy with no stress and rush.

My Visit to the Art Institute of Chicago My visit to the Art Institute of Chicago was one of the highlights of my trip. It’s not just a museum — it’s a journey through centuries of global art and culture. The building itself is grand and beautifully designed, right next to Millennium Park, making it easy to find and explore. Inside, the collection is breathtaking — from American classics like Grant Wood’s “American Gothic” and Nighthawks by Edward Hopper, to masterpieces by Monet, Van Gogh, Renoir, Picasso, and Rembrandt. Each gallery felt like stepping into a different era and part of the world. The Modern Wing was a personal favorite, showcasing stunning contemporary works in a bright, open space. The Impressionist collection is one of the best I’ve ever seen, with vivid colors and incredible detail that make you feel part of the painting. The museum staff were friendly and helpful, and the layout was easy to navigate even though the collection is vast. I also enjoyed a relaxing break at the Museum Café, overlooking the park. 📍 Tips for Visitors: • Book tickets online to save time. • Plan at least 2–3 hours (or more!) — there’s so much to see. • Audio guides and maps are very helpful for first-time visitors. • Don’t miss the gift shop for unique art-themed souvenirs. Overall, the Art Institute of Chicago is a world-class museum that beautifully captures the power of creativity and history. A must-visit for anyone coming to Chicago! 🖼️✨

We came here on a Bank of America sponsored day and luckily we have BOA accounts and we're let in for free! There's so much iconic art here. And it truly is a massive space - I tried to speed run the whole museum in 2 hours and only got through ~85% of it. Really appreciated all the curated works and how they organized each room/section, and their exhibits were also very special.
Becky T — Google review
Wonderful place full of wonderful pieces of art. Retail shop and cafe Staff were super polite and helpful. This makes the experience more delightful. A bit crowded for my taste but, I did go on a Saturday and am in a big city. I included a couple photos of some miniature home creations. The detail and patients is superb.

During my last trip to Chicago I got the CityPass and visited this enormous museum on a Monday during summer. If you like to appreciate art this is your museum, it has lots of sculptures, paintings, photography, textiles, weapons armor, among others... from different cultures during impressionism and post-impressionism. If you have a tight schedule I recommend you to plan which pieces of art you want to see before visiting the museum, check the map, use the app. If you intend to cover all the museum in detail it would be almost impossible to do it in one day.
MaJo — Google review
A Must-Visit for History & Art Lovers! This art museum beautifully showcases the history and cultures of various countries and ancient civilizations. The exhibits are thoughtfully arranged, and the ambience truly immerses you in the past. Each section is rich with historical references, making it a great place for anyone interested in literature, heritage, and art. The museum is well-maintained and organized, which enhances the overall experience. One of the most inspiring highlights here is the section dedicated to Swami Vivekananda’s historic speech, which adds a spiritual and motivational touch to the experience. It’s truly moving to stand in a place that reflects his message of unity, peace, and cultural pride. Do note that weekends can get a bit crowded, so visiting on a weekday is ideal if you prefer a quieter atmosphere. Overall, a wonderful place to learn, explore, and appreciate world cultures.
SANGEETA T — Google review
I visited here at 10 AM with a member who is a resident of Chicago. Members can visit early from 10 AM to 11 AM. If you have a friend or a family member who lives in Chicago and is a member, that is a great experience to learn what they like at the museum! There was a temporary exhibit at the museum for the drawing and prints room. I saw an Edward Munch lithograph of The Scream painting. I would recommend buying a ticket in advance and keeping the printout of your ticket or if you have it on your phone. They do require to see your ticket again to re-enter the museum if you go to the gift shop. I bought postcards to send to my family and will be writing out the postcards this afternoon. They also have nice insulated bags at the museum shop that you can use on your trip. There is an abundance of natural light in the lobby and many of the galleries. The only thing I have against this museum is that they charge for admission. I live in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and our Minneapolis Institute of Art does not charge for admission for any patrons.

The Lincoln Park Conservatory, a stunning greenhouse in Chicago's North Side, has been attracting nature enthusiasts since the 1870s. This 1890 glass structure is home to a diverse array of plant species from around the world. With four distinct display houses showcasing ancient ferns, towering palms, blooming orchids, and an extensive collection of cacti and succulents, it offers a serene retreat for plant lovers and those seeking relaxation.
Hidden gem in Chicago. I was walking to the zoo and stumbled upon this place and I’m so glad I checked it out. It is free to enter but you need to reserve a time online. Thankfully I was able to do so right outside the door, and they were lenient about letting me in even though the next time available was in 30 minutes. The tropical atrium, fern room, and orchid exhibits were phenomenal. Beautifully gardened and well maintained. Definitely check out if you’re in the area.

I had a wonderful time visiting Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago! 🌿🐾 It’s one of the oldest zoos in the country and the best part is—it’s free to enter. I loved how it’s beautifully set inside Lincoln Park with a mix of history, nature, and wildlife. From majestic lions and playful primates to the serene Nature Boardwalk, every corner felt engaging. The zoo is very family-friendly, easy to explore, and offers great city views along with close encounters with animals. We purchased free tickets to reserve a time slot. We spent a longer time exploring the zoo that we were a half hour late for our time slot and was able to still go in and explore. For a chilly day in Chicago it was quite warm and inviting to get some reprieve. They were setting up one of the rooms for winter flowers and plants so we could only see so much but definitely worth the visit!

It's an ideal location for photography sessions, especially for weddings, with its serene ambiance and beautiful surroundings.
Milton Lee Olive Park is a hidden gem in Chicago! The park offers a stunning, unobstructed view of the city’s iconic skyline, making it the perfect spot for photography or just relaxing and taking in the sights. It’s peaceful and less crowded than other spots in the city, offering a quiet escape while still being close to the action. The combination of nature, Lake Michigan, and the urban backdrop is truly breathtaking. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a beautiful view of Chicago!

Super dog friendly. Great spot for locals to sneak away and hang out as tourists do find their way here but usually default to the beach and lakefront path vs this park. Can be buggy and some years, lots of bees. Would be great if they mowed a bit and turned the fountains on (they’ve never been on in the four years I’ve lived here) but overall, clean, quiet, safe, and great views!

Garden of the Phoenix, located on Wooded Island within Jackson Park, is a serene Japanese garden that symbolizes the enduring friendship between the United States and Japan. Established in 1893 as a representation of their bond, it has become a prominent spot for experiencing Japanese culture. The garden features elegant landscaping with foot bridges and a waterfall, along with a restored pavilion and cherry blossom trees that bloom in spring.
Oh it’s so beautiful and serene. Though two big groups were there having picnic and music but there are so many corners to sit and enjoy the beauty of this garden without getting distracted and disturbed I can sit here for hours with a book to read in between. Perfect place for photography too. One should carry something to eat and water Cycling can be fun here. In and around the area is also enchanting.

This Japanese garden is a peaceful and beautifully maintained spot in Chicago, perfect for a quiet stroll and enjoying nature. However, it got crowded during my visit, which made it less relaxing and I ended up having to rush back instead of lingering longer. Three stars for the tranquil setting, but the crowds took away from the experience...

I was absolutely blown away by the Garden of the Phoenix. It feels like stepping into a hidden world right in the middle of Chicago. So peaceful, so beautiful — like a little pocket of magic. I could’ve stayed there all day. A must-visit if you need a moment of calm or just want to be surrounded by nature’s beauty. There were tons of birds (I saw cranes and even a Black-crowned Night Heron!), plus koi swimming around in the water. It really felt like a little escape from the city.

This place was beautiful and just a short 5 minute walk from the Griffin Science museum. Don't listen to your gps!!! On the trial you will find the garden of the Phoenix.....this is where you wanna be! The gps takes you to the parking lot. We walked all the way through Jackson park expecting there to be more and there was not. Once we trekked back and explored the park it was beautiful!! It is well maintained and so quiet. If you are hailing a taxi from there make sure you go back by the museum. The gps is a little wonky and our cab driver had a hard time finding us because it placed us on the other side of the park.

The garden was pretty. There was a bridge, laterns, and some beautiful bonsai trees. Going during cherry blossom bloom made it even more beautiful. What a truly wonderful hidden jam in Chicago. Lovely beach, a place to eat, called the dock and a bird sanctuary. We walked through the woods and so many birds, bunnies, and squirrels. I did the 12:15 Lap swim. Pool was crowded. Water temperature varies. Was around 81 degrees. 3 large lanes everyone cooperated in swimming 2 circles in one large lane. Locker rooms are okay. Water pressure is poor but there is soap in the showers. Very heavily used facility.
M. F — Google review
This is one of those parks where you can easily lose track of time. It’s one of the best green spaces in the city, offering a little bit of everything—great playgrounds, a walking trail, a gazebo, and indoor facilities with plenty of variety when open. In the summer, the water feature is a huge plus, though the wide-open spaces mean shade is limited, so sunscreen is a must. What really sets this park apart is how much it fosters community. The gazebo often hosts free concerts, the baseball and softball fields are well-used, and the big grassy areas are perfect for kids or dogs to run around. There’s also a gated playground with interactive water features, a lovely garden area filled with native plants, and even food stands serving crepes and hot dogs. Add in the tennis courts, fieldhouse with an indoor pool, summer camps, rentable rooms, and consistently polite staff, and it’s easy to see why this is a favorite park in the city.

This large public park in southeast Chicago offers recreation for mountain biking, hiking and bird-watching. It's a largely unknown spot to most locals, but the 234 acres of nature preserve make it a great place to spend an afternoon.
Big Marsh is truly a hidden gem in the city! The friendly and welcoming staff always make each visit a pleasure as the amazing view! The landscape is maintained, showcasing scores of native plants that create a vibrant and diverse environment. The trails make for a peaceful stroll or an adventurous bike ride. My highlights include the beautiful forested areas, big ponds, and wildlife spotting. Whether I'm there leading clients on a therapeutic Forest Therapy Journey, exploring with my dog, sitting, relaxing, hanging out with friends, or seeing the friendly staff, Big Marsh always offers something special. Oh, the Ford Calumet Environmental Center is a must-visit! It adds an educational and enriching experience to the trip, making every visit worthwhile. I can't recommend Big Marsh enough; it’s a beautiful oasis where nature and community unite perfectly. I visit often and always leave with a smile!

This place was amazing! I gave it four stars because it smells bad though. Not sure if the smell was because it is built on top of a landfill super fund site or if the funk was coming off of a marshy area but it obviously was not enough to undermine my general enjoyment of the place. The smell was not constant but came on the wind here and there Attended an 8yo birthday party with skateboards bikes and scooters. We were able to rent helmets for free. Renting bikes cost money. It's a very large area with trails and ramps etc to keep an adventurous crowd of boys happy for several hours

If you are a birder, then I recommend coming here. We saw several different species including a red shouldered hawk! Such a beautiful and serene place.....minus the garbage smell. Due to the industrial plants and possible landfills in the area, it stinks! Plenty of biking paths though!

Very nice natural area in Chicago. Good for bird watching. There is an old landfill that is covered in grassland, some small lake areas, and bmx tracks. Be careful of ticks, I found 2 after visiting. The people drag racing in front will let you through. If there are cars lined up you just have to wait for them to go.

Great for wheelchair rolling, exploring and simply enjoying the outdoors. My guys enjoyed watching the skateboarders and off-road cyclists as the path took us around the different tracks. The paved paths are wide and smooth. We will be bringing our hand cycles next time and picnicking at the eating area. It looks like camping maybe in our future too. Not sure if it's dog friendly or how wheelchair accessible the bathrooms are. I will update after our next visit.

Awsome walking trails and bike tracks. They have trails for beginners and experts to do stunts on. You can put up your tent and bbq in some areas and they have nice clean bathrooms and vending machines inside the field house. This is a nice place to come and relax with the family for a nice day out.

A great park with lots of trails. It’s FREE. There a beautiful new builder where parents can work while kids go ride. Did I mention that it’s FREE. What a nice hidden gem of Chicago, where you can bike, fish or just hang outside. Nice job Chicago Park District!

Navy Pier, a former Navy training center turned iconic Chicago landmark, is a beloved destination for families and tourists alike. This 3,000-foot pier offers a vibrant atmosphere with carnival rides, diverse dining options, bars, and free entertainment such as live music and street performers. Visitors can also enjoy the IMAX Theater, the enchanting indoor Crystal Gardens filled with soaring palm trees, the Children's Museum, and breathtaking views of Lake Michigan.
We had a fantastic time at Navy Pier with the kids! The highlights were definitely the thrilling SeaDog ride (with incredible views) and the fun rides at Pier park like the Wave Swinger. The Ferris wheel is a classic for a reason ..great for a relaxed view of everything. Food-wise, we were all happy with the burgers from Salt... the kids of course loved their Ben & Jerry's ice-cream after.. FlyOver Chicago was another fun indoor activity that the kids enjoyed. All in all, a perfect family day full of great sights and fun, a must go..if you're visiting Chicago.

A Chicago Must-Do with Endless Energy Navy Pier is the vibrant, beating heart of Chicago's waterfront. From the moment you arrive, the welcoming and festive atmosphere is infectious. Its excellent location at the edge of Lake Michigan provides stunning, picture-perfect views of the city skyline. The pier truly has something for everyone. You can get out on the water with the many available boat trips, from serene architecture tours to thrilling speedboat rides. When hunger strikes, the excellent food options range from quick snacks to sit-down meals with a view. Beyond that, there are multiple activities to fill a whole day, from the iconic Ferris wheel and carousel to live entertainment and gardens. It's the perfect place for a fun-filled outing where you're guaranteed to feel the energetic pulse of the city.

This is a cool place. There are boat rides and kiddy rides. There are performances here and of course the big famous Chicago Ferris Wheel 🎡. I've been here many times and each time I was just more and more impressed. You can also just take a little walk around and there are eateries. There are slow boat rides and fast boat rides. This is just a great place. Parking is plentiful not like in New York where I come from. Really impressive wow wow wow!!!!

Navy Pier truly captures the spirit of Chicago! Gorgeous lakefront views, great food options, and a lively atmosphere all day long. Perfect for a relaxing walk, photos, or just soaking in the city’s vibe. They also have music festivals every other weekend, mainly on Saturdays. There are river front cruises that board people from navy pier and take you through the city and show you the historical buildings of Chicago. There are well maintained restrooms. There are a couple of places to eat but you may find them a little pricy. Note: Saturdays are packed with people. Sundays are a bit quieter Weekdays are way more quieter unless it's a long holiday. No tickets required to enter the pier but for cruises and Yatchs you do need to buy tickets, which you can get online or in premises. In case you are taking the boat rides, plan ahead.

Navy Pier is always one of my favorite spots in Chicago. The skyline views, lake breeze, and energy here make every visit feel special. I stopped by around sunset and the entire pier lit up beautifully—especially the Centennial Wheel. The atmosphere was lively but still relaxing, perfect for a quick walk, photos, or just enjoying the city. Parking and entry were easy, and the wait time for activities was very reasonable. Highly recommend stopping by Navy Pier whether you're a local or visiting Chicago!

I wanted a place to go in Chicago without fighting all the traffic but still getting to see Lake Michigan and the downtown buildings. This was perfect! Beautiful views of the city, and if you take the Centennial wheel, you get to see incredible views 360 degrees around! There was food, music, drinks and more available depending upon time of the year, week, day, etc. I went in February once and still had a wonderful time! Lincoln Park Zoo is a small, free zoo located near Lake Michigan in Chicago. It offers a diverse range of animal exhibits, including lions, primates, reptiles, and a children's area with an interactive farm exhibit. Visitors can observe snow monkeys relaxing in the hot springs of the Regenstein Macaque Forest and marvel at gorillas and chimpanzees in the expansive Regenstein Center for African Apes. The Pepper Family Wildlife Center features big cats separated by glass windows for safe viewing.
Great free city zoo. Took the train uptown and explored the entire park in just a couple hours. The lion and gorilla enclosures were so spacious and great. Loved seeing so many animals outside enjoying the crisp October air.

What a beautiful zoo, filled with a wide variety of animals! Admission is free for everyone. Exploring the entire zoo and all its sections will take at least 4 to 5 hours. The zoo features multiple observation decks and several areas dedicated to the same species. Some viewing spots are indoors, while others are outdoors, thoughtfully designed to comfortably accommodate large crowds simultaneously.

Enjoyed our visit to the Lincoln Park Zoo during their ZooLights display. It was our first visit, and was a positive experience. We marveled at the work and preparation of the displays and at $7/person it was affordable. The lighting displays were beautiful and impressive. Even though it is geared toward families we enjoyed it as a group of 5 adults with no children in attendance. As first-time visitors it was a little confusing to navigate through the zoo in the dark. We also were impressed with how courteous the attendees were and respectful. It was a highlight to see the lions, chimpanzee, the rhinoceros, and some reptiles. Thanks to all who make it possible!

This Zoo has some good collection of Animals. They have a bunch of lions and some of them are interesting to watch. Each male lion has got multiple female lions to chill with. They have enough space for all the lions and the big viewing glass from inside the building allows visitors to enjoy a closer view of these amazing animals.

The Chicago Zoo Lights is an absolutely magical experience and one of the best ways to kick off the holiday season. As soon as you walk in, you're greeted with vibrant displays, festive music, and a warm, cheerful atmosphere that instantly puts you in the holiday spirit. The lights are beautiful—thoughtfully arranged, creative, and perfect for photos. The layout is easy to navigate, and even on busy nights the event feels well-organized. Families, couples, and friends of all ages can enjoy everything from glowing tunnels and themed displays to seasonal snacks and hot drinks that keep you warm as you explore. One of the highlights is how the zoo blends holiday charm with its natural setting, giving visitors a chance to see select animals while enjoying the lights. It’s a great value, a fun tradition, and a must-see Chicago winter attraction. Whether you're looking for a cozy date night, a family outing, or simply a festive escape, Chicago Zoo Lights delivers a memorable and joyful experience every year.

What a gem in the city. I always love going there, and went for my first Zoo Lights this year after living in or near the city my whole life. It was an excellent experience, and I got to see way more animals than I had expected. I even got to see the lions play, something I've never seen in all my years of attendance.

Free zoo in Chicago with great atmosphere. We got there around 3:30 pm and saw the North side of the zoo before dusk. We had great timing. Heard the lions roar, saw the brown bears, heard the kookaburra laugh, and a giraffe. We hto there at Duke when animals were active and some were being fed. Left and the city lights were a great backdrop.
Johnni Z — Google review
Great very historical zoo. Can’t recommend it enough. First of all the setting is beautiful! All of the brick historical buildings in the nice park is perfect. Very unique as well for someone who is visiting from the south, where most of our zoos are more modern. Beyond that they do a lot with the space packing a lot of well cared for animals in the urban setting. Highlights for me was the seal pool and lion house. The lion exhibit was very big. Had a lot of impressive viewing areas and was super interactive and engaging. The seal show is also a must do. It’s not a traditional “sea world” style show with flips and tricks but was instead part of their care routine. Which is great to see the animals showcased while not being exploited. The only downside was the primate house. Not enough to dock it a star but some of the monkeys had no access to outside areas. They still seemed well cared for and happy just a little sad that they don’t get a lot of natural light. With that being said, they clearly have expanded these habitat in a lot of places and improved welfare a lot over the past couple decades. The gibbons do have an indoor outdoor habitat and it would be good to see this design philosophy expanded to the other small primates. On the other hand the gorilla and chimp habitat was very well designed, with lots of open space and a clear focus on animals welfare. Another slight criticism is the website says the zoo opens at 8 but the large majority of the animals are not let out until 10. Also no buildings are open until 10. So don’t really arrive that early. I got up super early to try and get a good start but ended up having to waste time while we waited. Don’t miss the children’s zoo either. The bear was awesome and the red wolves are very rare. Also tried to see the beaver but he was sleeping. Definitely a must do, even if you only in Chicago for a few days.

Grant Park, a 312-acre urban oasis in Downtown Chicago, is home to some of the city's most popular attractions. Anchored by the renowned Art Institute of Chicago and the acclaimed Millennium Park, this area offers a perfect day trip with its mix of restaurants, parks, museums, music clubs, and rooftop views. Visitors can explore the Chicago Cultural Mile along South Michigan Avenue and then rent a bike to enjoy the scenic 18-mile Lakefront Trail that passes through Grant Park.
Grant Park is a great spot to relax, walk, or enjoy the skyline views. It’s clean, spacious, and well-maintained, with easy access to nearby attractions like Millennium Park, Buckingham Fountain, and the Art Institute. Whether you're taking a stroll or just sitting on a bench, it’s a peaceful break from the busy downtown area.

Grant Park is truly the heart of downtown Chicago — a huge, green space surrounded by some of the city’s most iconic landmarks. It’s the perfect place to take a peaceful walk, enjoy the skyline, or simply sit under a tree and watch people go by. The Buckingham Fountain is stunning, especially when it’s lit up at night or during one of the hourly water shows. The park is always clean and well-kept, with plenty of open lawns and shaded paths for jogging or picnicking. It’s also home to major events like Lollapalooza, so depending on the season, you might catch live music or cultural festivals happening here. What I like most is how easy it is to reach from anywhere downtown — just a short walk from Millennium Park or the Art Institute. The combination of city energy and natural beauty makes Grant Park an ideal spot for both locals and tourists. Whether you’re looking for a morning run, an afternoon picnic, or an evening stroll, you’ll always find something enjoyable here.

One of my favorite urban parks I’ve ever had the pleasure of frolicking through. Expansive views of the Chicago skyline, Lake Michigan, extensive ornamental plantings, Buckingham Fountain, and more than enough spots to find a Chicago hot dog. Even for a quick 30 minute walk, it’s a wonderful place in the city to find some grass to touch.

Graceland Cemetery, located in the Uptown neighborhood of Chicago, is a picturesque Victorian burial ground that serves as the final resting place for many notable figures such as Ernie Banks, Daniel Burnham, and Van der Rohe. The cemetery boasts over a hundred mausoleums and gravestones to admire and is also recognized as an arboretum with 2,000 trees and 50 certified species.
If you visit the Visitor's Center, they have clean restrooms and I found material for a tree tour around the cemetery. It seemed as if a lot of people were there to exercise and the roads within the area are wide and nicely paved. As a Cubs fan from California, I finally got to visit and pay my respects to a legend, Mr. Cub, Ernie Banks. From what I saw in my short walk, the staff does an incredible job maintaining the facility. Trash cans were clean, the restroom spotless, there was a huge team of men blowing the leaves the clean the plots, let me tell you, these guys were hustling! In simple words, this cemetery is absolutely beautiful. It's peaceful, a lot of history to view, the L and buses stop in walking distance of the entrance.

What an incredible cemetery! You are surrounded by Chicago history from architects (including Daniel Burnham and Louis Sullivan) to athletes (like Ernie Banks and Minnie Miñoso) and the rich and famous of Chicago history (like Marshall Field and Potter Palmer). It's a beautiful place to walk. We didn't spot any coyotes today.

I can't believe I've been living in Lakeview for so long and it took me years to finally make it to the Graceland Cemetery. I did a tour with Adam Selzer (which I highly recommend!) and the history and the stories behind the people were so interesting. The headstones and monuments themselves are also just incredible to look at. Will definitely come back to walk through and take it all in.

*coyote danger in cemetery to pet dogs* Graceland is beautiful and a lovely place to walk. It is a nature lover’s haven in uptown Chicago. I especially love the pond and that wildlife/wildflower area. However, there are multiple coyotes in the cemetery and while they are beautiful to look at from afar, be on the lookout for them if you are walking in the park with a small pet. I am always aware of my surroundings there and am always looking for the coyotes when walking with my dog. I see them at a distance every time I walk there with my dog and I have seen them all over the cemetery. Usually they have left us alone. This week (May 2025) while I walked my leashed, 45-pound dog, TWO coyotes ran up to us from a hiding spot below an hill while we were on Greenwood Ave walking toward the secondary entrance to the cemetery. The coyotes were angry and had their teeth bared and kept nipping close to my dog’s legs. I screamed for help and nobody was in eye sight of me and nobody could hear me over all their lawn movers cutting the grass. The coyotes came within 2-3 feet of me and my dog and were lurching at us for multiple minutes. It was very scary and there was nobody to help us. I screamed at them and kept walking backwards pulling my dog with me until they finally backed off and watched from afar. There were many dogs being walked in the cemetery that day and a lot of mowers, so maybe they felt threatened by all the noise and commotion and territorial, or perhaps because it is spring (mating season) maybe they had babies they wanted to protect. But we were on the paved path when they sprinted at us and did not provoke them in any way. Please be careful and look out for your pets when you are there. The coyotes were most interested in my dog, despite him being the same size as them if not larger, and less so me. We were very lucky, as I must emphasize there was no help for us in eye-shot or ear-shot when this happened.

World class garden and planting design. I always like to visit whenever I am near by to see how the garden changes through the seasons. The 606, a 2.7-mile elevated trail, was once an abandoned rail line that has been transformed into a vibrant urban park and recreational space. Connecting the neighborhoods of Logan Square, Humboldt Park, Wicker Park, and Bucktown, this former railway corridor now serves as a popular route for runners and bikers. The trail features public art installations and offers convenient access to nearby amenities such as coffee shops and stores.
A well-maintained, short but useful paved trail stretching about 2.7 miles between Humboldt Park and Wicker Park. It’s clean, easy to access with plenty of entry and exit points, and offers some nice greenery on both sides to break up the city views. There’s even a blue shock-absorbing strip built for runners, which makes it extra comfortable for jogging. While it’s more suited for walkers, runners, and dog owners than for serious cyclists, it’s still a handy car-free route to cut across this part of the city without dealing with intersections or traffic. A great little urban escape.
Manek L — Google review
I really enjoyed walking this path. The western end is beautiful but the eastern end is more boring. One reviewer complained that this “bike path” is too overrun with walkers, etc but signs are calling this a park and so bikers trying to use it as a “highway” need to calm down. There are lots of benches and artwork for walkers to enjoy!
Carla G — Google review
Nice, clean, but short (2.7 miles) paved trail that goes East/West from Humboldt Park area to Wicker park. Lots of entry/exit ramps along the trail. Nice bit of variety of nature to see along both sides of the trail. Has a blue spongy shock absorbing strip just for jogger people. More of a jogger, walker, dog walking path than a bikers path, but nice if you use it as a carless/no intersection route to cut across part of the city.

As a local, I treat The 606 like it’s my personal runway. Whether I’m dodging scooters, judging people’s running form, or overhearing peak West Side drama mid-jog, there’s never a dull lap. It’s the only place where you can go from street art to skyline views to someone grilling in their yard. All within 10 minutes. A+ for vibes, A+ for people-watching, C- for the occasional biker who thinks it’s the Tour de France.

Nice spot along side Lake Michigan. It has a nice scenery during winter too with the ice buildup on the shore. You will still see some hardcore runner run past you on the trail. Near Museum of Science, just walk underneath Lake Shore Dr and it will take you there.

Had a 4th of July picnic here and we all had a great time. Tons of room to spread out and eat. Not an insect was in sight and the groups in the park were all lovely people. There was a decent amount of parking in the lot (not free of course) and for this who ride their bike, the paths seemed very easy to traverse. I would happily go back on a trip to the South side

Beautiful place all year around! In the summer it is great for less busy lake side local hangs and climbing over the rocks to take a dip in the calm, clear water. In the less warm months, it is a beautiful place to take a stroll around the park or you can walk along the rocks for those a little more adventurous. I took my puppy and she loved! Be careful in the colder months as the rocks can get a little icy and become slippy - we almost lost someone to the cold lake this December!

Jackson Bark is a great place for dogs to play and run around. The people and dogs are friendly, and the park is always clean. Recently, however, there have been reports of coyotes living in the area and occasionally coming up to the fence. This should be warned to pet parents who bring their children to the park. Overall, Jackson Bark is a great place for dogs to have fun.
Great place and a big dog park. Tennis court adjacent to park that dogs use and also grass area that is not gated great for pups that love the grass however that are obitient. Not packed with dogs and great to get all the zoomies out.

These pictures are very misleading... I paid $4 for an hour or less parking, got to the dog park and a lot of the things are broken, biting flies in second half of dog park. The previous pics must have been the park in its prime but now it looks like the land before time. visit at your own risk cause no one is maintaining the park.
Tarshae C — Google review
What a disappointment ☹️ We travelled far to experience this park and it looked abandoned and neglected with overgrown weeds and broken/forgotten obstacles some with rusty nails sticking out and unsafe for dogs to be jumping on them. The parking lot was blocked off and the surrounding tennis courts have overgrown trees, bushes and weeds everywhere. It’s a shame the money that was used to build this park didn’t include the maintenance of up keeping it. Definitely not worth the trip.

I've been to a lot of dog parks in a lot of states. This dog park is by far the most interesting. Todd has done a lot of work and there are a lot of stories behind each piece. If you and your dog are on the southside of Chicago and want a place to play, just Google Jackson Bark. You won't be disappointed.

Used to be fenced in tennis courts. Now it's like an obstacle course for your dog. It's pretty fun and unique. Definitely a creative park unlike any other in Chicago. It's community maintained and welcoming to all sized pups. Last I saw they added a mini water park and a diy dog bath out of blue recycle bins. Pretty cool!
Briana — Google review
Amazing dog park! Lots of space for dogs to run around. There are many things that makes this park stand out more than other parks in Chicago, but one of them is definitely the fact that they have a first aid kit! Everyone knows how dogs can be, so its better to be safe!! Free parking if you use google maps to get here!

This is the best dog park we’ve ever visited. The park is incredibly clean, safe, and fun. My pup loved playing with the many toys and obstacles throughout the park. There’s a divider to separate aggressive or anxious pups as well as first aid kits through the park.

Washington Square Park is a well-kept, small and shaded park located in the heart of the Gold Coast. It has a large fountain surrounded by a floral garden, making it an excellent place to relax or take a walk. The park is also dog friendly, making it perfect for people who love their furry friends.
Very beautiful place in the middle of River North. It's pet-friendly and usually a place where owners take their furry friends to play and gather together. For sure, you find squirrels as well.

Love this park!! There are many benches so it’s great for sitting, admiring and reading as well. It’s so charming during the green months and lit up for the winter time as well! It’s truly precious and usually full dogs :)
Joelle S — Google review
Giving this rating was disappointing because this is such a well located and scenic park. The issue is mainly the dogs who are constantly running around loose. As you can see by my tag name, I am a big dog lover and have a Labrador Retriever at home. So, I put this on the humans not the four-legged friends. Not everyone wants to be scratched, jumped on, played with or otherwise engaged with dogs when they are sitting in the park reading, relaxing or whatever. There are Dog Free Areas (DFA) in the neighborhood for those who wish to do so. One is located a few blocks away on Wells and Superior. This is where these people need to let their dogs off the leash - not at this open access treasure. I am hoping the city will start enforcing the rules by the posting of more notices and sadly, for repeat offenders, issuing tickets. This is the only way our city's oldest standing park can go back to what it should be - a peaceful oasis for ALL to enjoy.

I just visited Washington Square Park with my friends this summer, and it was so beautifully landscaped and peaceful. People were constantly walking through the park, but it was pretty quiet. So, it was really nice to be able to hang out there and enjoy a little picnic with my friends. I would definitely visit again and would recommend a visit to those in the area.

This beautiful urban botanic garden is popular with families and children, who love exploring the peaceful surroundings and taking photos in front of flowering bushes and trees and lighted fountains. The park is well-maintained and just a few blocks from busy Lake Shore Drive, making it an excellent place to take a walk or relax with your pet.
Beautiful park surrounded by lots of plants, gorgeous architecture, and walkable paths. The play ground is fantastic for young kids and older kids with a splash area in the middle. There are not low entry points for the playground, but kids 2+ will love it! Plenty of shade and seating

A peaceful green space tucked away in downtown Chicago. It’s beautifully maintained with walking paths, seating areas, and plenty of trees. One thing you’ll definitely notice, there are a lot of dogs! It’s a favorite spot for local dog owners, giving the park a friendly, neighborly vibe. A great place to unwind, take a stroll, or enjoy a bit of nature in the city.

Big park with lots of open space. Good for picnics and meeting up with people. There’s a dog park and a playground. Nice to be surrounded by the buildings. Trees on the periphery keep things cool or if you want the sun you can go to the lawn.

I absolutely love spending time in this park! It’s one of my favorite places to visit, whether I'm looking for a peaceful walk or a place to enjoy nature. The park is huge and beautifully maintained, with plenty of green spaces, walking paths, and benches to relax on. I especially enjoy the large lake in the center, where I can sit and watch the ducks or take a boat ride. The kids’ playground is also great—it's clean, safe, and has lots of fun equipment. The staff works hard to keep the park clean and organized, and it shows. It’s a perfect place for a picnic, a jog, or just a quiet escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Doing neighborhood watch in this park for over 12 years. I've saved a few people from homeless assault and battery attacks. Never see CPD, Northwestern University 👮 police or Cook County park security patrolling this beautiful family friendly park. The Ward Alderman and City of Chicago Mayor are weak and under educated for the positions they have to serve the residents of Streeterville. Jane M. Byrne Plaza, located in downtown Chicago, is a small but peaceful retreat from the bustling city. Despite its size, it offers beautiful flowers and well-manicured plants, making it an ideal place for a leisurely stroll. The plaza is often crowded with tourists and commuters passing through, creating a vibrant energy that visitors can absorb by sitting on one of the benches. Additionally, the plaza hosts various activities such as street preaching, evangelizing, live music performances, and sketch artists.
Lovely park with the famous Water Tower landmark. Fountain, shady trees, and benches and always pleasant for people watching. Sometimes there art exhibitions in the Tower itself. Always worth a few minutes stop if you’re in the area.

Lovely retreat from the busyness of the loop. Small park, perhaps one block in size and part of it consumed by an old building. While on Michigan ave, it is a peaceful place for a quick stroll. Beautiful flowers sit among well-manicured plants. It gets crowded easily, though most are just passing through. If in the area, take a few moments to slow down and enjoy this lovely urban retreat.

A relatively new city park just across from the Water Tower Place shopping mall. The park is named after Jane Byrne (1933-2014) who served as Mayor of Chicago from 1979-83. It centres around the historic Water Tower (1869). There is bench seating around a small fountain, a good spot to rest your feet and a few fairly mature trees providing a bit of shade as well.

A small park right next to the Water Tower in its own small block. It has some nice shade, lots of seating (individual chairs around the fountain) and a small fountain in the middle. The park was renamed in 2014 after the first woman mayor of Chicago, Jane M. Byrne.

I took a terrarium making class in February 2025 which was a lot of fun and very informative. I really got into caring for this terrarium, Terri, and she just bloomed!! I went back and asked if they could help me upgrade her to a 10 gallon aquarium tank. They took her and a week later this beauty came home! Very reasonably priced for the whole glow up. Grant Skate Park, located at 1135 S Michigan Ave in Chicago, IL, offers more than just a skateboarding haven. It provides a stunning lakefront view and is popular among rollerbladers and BMX bikers of all skill levels. The park is also a great area for walking with easy access to nearby attractions like the planetarium, Lake Shore, and Millennium Park. Visitors can enjoy watching skaters perform stunts or simply relax in the safe environment while taking in the dynamic surroundings.
Let’s keep this one short and sweet. This park is great for every level of skater. Smooth concrete, a few marble ledges and well planed obstacle placement. The different obstacles will give you a variety of skating depending on what you like. However, the park is geared towards street skating but there are some transition obstacles (see the photos). You can flow through this park and hit a sweet line or just choose what you’re skating and go from there. The park isn’t visible from the street but it is easy to find. There’s no parking specifically for the park so, you’ll have to park on the road or pay for parking. And it ain’t cheap. Nonetheless, a must skate if your in the Windy City. As always, skate Fakie but, keep it real. (This review is solely the opinion of my own, others may see it differently)
Bliss S — Google review
Just went to Grant Skatepark for the first time and was super impressed. The flow is smooth, and there’s a great mix of features—ledges, rails, banks, transitions—something for every style. Plus, the downtown backdrop makes it even better.
Chase — Google review
Good park, decent layout. City needs to blow the park off sometimes, some broken glass and pebbles all over. Cracky homeless vibes, but still a great park. Locals seem to all be beasts, and transition really well between obstacles.
Nicholas N — Google review
God area to walk generally, you can walk to planetarium/ lake shore / Millennium park Kids also come here and chill in thier own area . If you are not a skater : Great place to sit because it’s safe , things around you would be dynamic ; you will see some one jumping , someone getting high , someone doing stunts ; sometimes big groups of teens partying and doing wild stunts . I am a novice skater , I go here for morning / evening workout sometimes ; great place to chill and walk around .
Sanmeet G — Google review
This is an awesome facility and great use of taxpayer dollars. Unfortunately it is overrun by people smoking weed. The city - mayor and alderperson need to put some serious thought into the marijuana usage in this park- what could be a great public good especially for children/teens/all ages in the loop and vicinity area- 3rd 4th and 42nd ward residents is being co-opted by the noxious second hand weed and cigarette smoking pollution. City should enforce the public smoking laws on the books or create a tobacco/potsmokers areas that contain the fumes like at the las vegas airport.
Sagar S — Google review
This was a fun skatepark with a good mix of street and vert. The park had a nice flow to it.
Bryan D — Google review
Nice skatepark, you can get some good lines in. The city skyline backdrop is cool too. It's also bike friendly which is nice. Not too sketchy of an area either.
Michael S — Google review
This is a great plaza-style park, for people who like plaza-style parks. It loses one star for me because I'm a skater who enjoys a good variety of skate terrain, especially a good transition section/snakerun/bowl, which this park completely lacks aside from two quarterpipes near the far side of the park. Despite that though, and especially after I got rained out of my session when a storm came in, it would definitely be worth a trip back out to again!

Lovely park. It'd be more lovely if there was time put into cleaning it up. There are Christmas light wires cut up everywhere, I can't see that as being very good for kids to be around or the amount of squirrels & birds. Cute little play area for kids. Seems pretty safe. There's a gate so they can't run out into danger. I love the little benches under the trees. It's a good place to relax. I want to adopt it and vow to keep it clean. Haha. All in all, cute little park.

This park has a very convenient location immediately adjacent to Lurie Children's Hospital. This location does mean it's extremely busy, with tons of ambulance sirens and lots and lots of car sounds while the kids are playing. The playground equipment is novel and cool, almost quirky, on both the "big kids" and "little kids" sides, but my son physically struggled a little on the big kids' side and wasn't having a great time over there, and I saw two kids slip and fall while playing, with one kid who was around 6 or 7 fall from a relatively high height and wind up crying for a long time. My son wound up enjoying himself on the little kids' side for a long time. As cool as the playground looks, it honestly isn't as well-designed as some other parks in the area.
Kelsey B — Google review
Loved this park located so close to Luries Hospital. I love how it's a random park located right in the middle of the city. So glad my friend showed us this park during our visit. It was nice to have a place for my kids to burn off energy before the night was over that wasn't just miles of walking. It's definitely a park for younger kids. A 10 year old may not have as much fun as a 7 year old here. It's located right next to one of the city's fire stations. There's a wooded walkway to the park with benches and street lights and it's everything I'd imagine a picturesque city park would be like. I loved it.
Christina — Google review
Nice and clean park right next to a fire station. All enclosed with one entrance/exit. Fun and challenging climbing structures for kids 5-10 and easier toddler area with terrain and slides. Partially shaded. No picnic tables. Parking is a challenge, as expected.

Great playground in the middle of a busy city. The whole park is fenced. Located right next to a fire station which is a plus for the little one a since they get to see ambulances and fire trucks going on and off often. The playground has two sections, one for the little ones with bucket swings and small slides and another for bigger kids with monkey bars and some structures to climb and 1 big slide.
