Hamburger restaurant
Located in the Rendezvous Street area, Lucky Chip is a recent addition to the vibrant food scene. The burger bar, owned by Ben Denner, offers a playful ambiance with Victorian taxidermy and stylish interior decor. Known for its legendary El Chappo and Gus Fring chicken burgers, Lucky Chip is a must-visit for burger enthusiasts. Additionally, visitors can explore nearby establishments such as The Radnor Arms for creative cocktails and The Bouverie Tap for an excellent beer selection.
Great burger... But the star of the menu is definitely the loaded brisket fries with wasabi mayo, incredibly good. Something you'll crave. The lucky chip beer was pretty good too. Service is also good. No complaints whatsoever. 5 stars!
Matteo B — Google review
The food is amazing! The best burger I've had in a long time, and don't get me started on the green sauce. NO idea what's in it, but it tastes incredible!! 🔥 The chicken was cooked perfectly, the fries were so tasty, and the philly cheesesteak was made to perfection. Staff are very friendly and willing to have a chat with you. We asked about where they get their ingredients from, and they were very happy to tell us. £80 for 2 of us, including 2 drinks of whiskey and lots of amazing food, as you can see in the picture. I never heard of this place before today, but I will be returning very soon!!

Great beers...... Great food........ Great staff! Had this cheeky sour yesterday 30/9/23 and very nice indeed! Still some of the best beers in Folkestone! And their Vault City range has always been great as seen in my added picture!
Mr K — Google review
I'll start with an big positive, the green sauce cheesy fries are absolutely amazing, really good. However, the burgers we had were very mediocre, incredibly soft, all the same texture, desperately needed some sort of crunch or even a toasted bun would help. The beer I had was nice and my partner enjoyed her cider, the staff were very chatty and the food arrived quick. The toilets were a bit grotty with loo roll and paper sheets all over the floor and the bin was overflowing. We will return to give lucky chip another go.
Tammy T — Google review
We'd seen the reviews and thought we'd better give this a try and boy, are we glad we did, as friendly staff and delicious food make for the perfect restaurant experience! We ordered burgers, fries, tater tots and drinks. Gotta say, tater tots are new to us and these were so morish. So whatever you order, grab a side of these, you will be so glad you did. As for the burgers, so tasty, well cooked deep flavours and piping hot till the last mouthful. These are right up there with the best burgers we've had! Will we go again, most certainly!
John B — Google review
I absolutely love Lucky Chip when I was in London but after moving to Folkestone this branch doesn’t live upto the hype. The buns are mostly stale when I have eaten and they never open up ontime. It’s Sunday and trading hours are open from noon but they decided to open later today. I would go to the burger van up the road for a better and more consistent experience

Best. Burger. Ever!!!! I have had many a burger in my life but this, oh my this burger was amazing. I had the Royale Wit Cheese. Sooo tasty. It wasn't stodgy like other burgers I've had. They are served a bit pink in the middle (and they tell you that upfront). I had mine fully done but my boyfriend had his as is and loved it. The fries are crispy and moreish. We had one basket between us and that was enough. We then had Cherry pie for afters. That was extremely tasty too. The staff are very friendly and the service was quick. The music wasn't to my taste but I remember seeing a board outside during the daytime telling you what genre is which night. It is a good job we don't live round here or I would end up the size of a house! Highly recommend! EDIT: One year later. Boyfriend brought me all the way here from Leicestershire so I could go here again 😊 still the best burger ever. (And I've tried quite a few in the last year!) EDIT: Another year later...STILL wonderful!!!!!! Nov 23 EDIT: Changed my burger to a different one (named after an actress, I forget who!) and it was even nicer than my regular!!! May 24 EDIT: New chef but still the best burger ever! Ooh and the cherry pie was yummy with an awesome Chantilly cream 😊
Donna H — Google review
I went there with some work colleagues had a nice time. The food is really good and we went there on Wednesday which meant we could take advantage of the £5 cocktails. The burger was one of the best I've had and I would like to try thier Sunday roast. It would be a 5 star review if only you could hear what others were saying as the music was quite loud.

Seafood restaurant
Bar
British restaurant
Rocksalt Restaurant offers a chic and modern dining experience with floor-to-ceiling glass and a terrace overlooking the harbor. Chef James Pearce, previously from nearby Rocksalt, showcases the best of Kent's seafood on the menu. Diners can enjoy Blackwater Estuary oysters prepared in various ways, along with an array of snacks to complement their natural-leaning wine list. The mains feature delectable options such as monkfish with white miso or cod in vodka batter.
Right on the harbour in Folkestone, Rocksalt Restaurant has a stunning location. The blue of the sea in the website photo is no exaggeration - certainly not on the day we were there anyway. With the glass doors pulled wide open, we had a beautiful view of the harbour. Public parking was conveniently available over the road from the restaurant. We found the service to be friendly and efficient, perhaps a bit slow towards the end, but the restaurant had got busier by that time. It is a very popular place. The food and drink was very good. We all had different dishes and we all enjoyed the food a lot. The bill for five of us - and most of us had three courses - came in at about £50 a head including service.
J B — Google review
Amazing food with a view. The fish and chips is amazing, huge portions, the tartar sauce and the mushy mint peas very delicious. The staff very friendly and the price is low for the quality you get. The view of the harbour is absolutely amazing even though it was low tide when we were there. Definitely will go again when in the area.
Anamaria C — Google review
Lunch yesterday was (as usual) absolutely faultless! Food is a gastronomic delight - fish so fresh, it almost swims onto your plate and all served by friendly, polished and attentive staff. Warm and lively atmosphere and the setting is, even on a dull afternoon, breathtaking. Special mention to Lazlo, one of the restaurant managers, whose friendly and professional manner wouldn't be out of place in a London 5* restaurant. Thank you for making our day!
Kim H — Google review
My family used to live in Folkestone about 8 years ago, and my parents went to Rocksalt a couple of times back then and found the service slow and unhelpful, and the food of mediocre quality. Returning last week, we found that not much had changed. We were greeted by a young server who showed us to our table and took our drinks order - she was pleasant, but did not know much about the drinks options (we later saw others with cocktails, though this was not an option given to us; she also wasn't aware of the spirits options). I don't blame her as she was clearly young and inexperienced, but her lack of training and knowledge reflects very badly on the restaurant, especially as she was the first face we saw. We were also placed at a table right next to the door, where a chilly breeze was blowing in, and despite the restaurant being half empty our request to be moved was denied (several tables remained empty until we left a couple hours later). This was baffling and did not set a great tone for the night. The presentation of the food was very prettily done, and the fish was very fresh, but for the prices, the dishes themselves are very average - nice enough, but nothing special or exciting. We had come to Rocksalt for my sister's birthday, but other than a "happy birthday" at the door, no effort was made to make the night feel special - no rapport with the staff, no recommendations of dishes. When the meal finally ended, they brought out a plate with "happy birthday" written in chocolate sauce and a single, tiny scoop of raspberry sorbet. They hadn't even bothered to add her name (or even ask for it), nor inquire at any point what sort of flavours she might like (she doesn't like raspberry and would've honestly preferred a simpler flavour like vanilla or chocolate). A very poor performance, considering the supposed calibre of the restaurant. Overall, disappointing but not surprising. I'm honestly astounded at how many good reviews this place has, considering that amongst Folkestone natives and locals it is regularly avoided.

My husband & I had a Sunday roast. I had belly of pork cooked to perfection my husband had beef. Everything was delicious. The service was efficient, professional and polite. We throughly enjoyed our visit and food would definitely recommend.
Vicky D — Google review
Unfortunately food was very bland and cold, very expensive, and we waited 1.5 hours for the food to be brought out. No one asked us how the food was, otherwise we would have told them, but started eating as we were so hungry. Beautiful view and good location though. Overall, massive disappointment - should have checked the review before hand, as recently they have received many reviews similar to mine. Advice, go somewhere else - you'll get much better food at a fraction of the price.
Georgina B — Google review
Location is beautiful - such amazing views across the Channel. The food was delicious - we had the scallops and prawns to start, the lemon sole and the skate and then the fondant for dessert - I’d highly recommend them all. The atmosphere is perfect which a luxurious yet relaxed dining experience. Personally, I loved how accommodating they were to our toddler. An amazing child’s menu but the staff were also just so helpful - Emma was absolutely wonderful. Thank you for such a lovely evening; we can’t wait to come back!
Nadia F — Google review
We had booked a big important birthday family celebration for 10. Having been to the restaurant before, we were looking forward to the a la carte dining in front of the panoramic windows with top notch food and service, as always, at a seafood restaurant. I called the restaurant to book, confirmed my credit card for the reservation. When we arrived, we were seated outside the main restaurant in ‘the garden’ which offered us drinks in paper cups and a limited bbq menu. A completely different vibe to what we expected and had hoped for. I spoke to the staff and explained this and asked for their help to elevate the experience. There was no space indoors in the main restaurant. We had agreed that they would swap out paper cups for proper glass and that we would be able to order from the a la carte desert menu at the end of the meal. Not perfect, but a possible solution. Here are some of the issues which occurred after this: - the cups (which were also flying everywhere in the wind) were not swapped out till I spoke to the staff again 40 mins later - the cutlery was placed on the table in a chewed up Tupperware box and stayed there through the meal - the food which we largely enjoyed, came out at completely different times which we weren’t warned about - the kids’ cheeseburger didn’t have any cheese - most people had finished their mains when the kids’ hot dog and sides finally arrived - from an order of three drinks (wine and two beers) only two arrived - the table next to us had ordered from the a la carte menu despite us being told that we could only have bbq mains - the waitress/manager came up to apologise and offer us drinks, but did it very loudly and to the whole table. I had tried to address all issues with the staff away from the table not to break up some sense of celebration and wished she had offered us the same courtesy I can see the staff were trying, but the bbq kitchen could clearly not come with a large table. The staff were pleasant but not completely experienced. We did get a bottle of wine and a couple of beers on the house as a gesture, but sadly it didn’t give us back any semblance of the experience we were expecting and had the pleasure of having in the past.

Pub
Nestled in the heart of Folkestone, The Samuel Peto - JD Wetherspoon is a remarkable pub that has been transformed from a historic Baptist church into a vibrant social hub. With its stunning stained-glass windows and painted cloud ceiling, this venue exudes character and charm. Guests can indulge in classic British pub fare while enjoying an extensive selection of draft beers, wines, and spirits. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting, making it an ideal spot for both early breakfasts or late-night gatherings.
Had to use google to find the place just because the location was obscure if you're new to the area. This an old building they are based in as well. Turned up at the weekend and it was really busy, and there was a wait to order. The original food which was ordered arrived cold in the middle and when we raised this with the team they made a fresh order again. However there also a number of people who also had the same problem we had. Inside to was more on the dark side and as usual old carpets (more on the high wear and tear side due to high traffic areas).

What a spot , possibly the most beautiful Spoons . An old church built With money from Samuel Peto , who was An industrialist in Victorian times Building railways in the uk and Canada, and elsewhere. He built Nelson’s Column in London . Sadly he was owed over a million pounds and went Bankrupt, then moved to Prague . The pub has an amazing vaulted ceiling and organ . Service can be a bit slow if you are stood in the wrong place , however the staff were good and the food and drinks were as ever , very reasonably priced
Jon R — Google review
The Samuel Peto is one of the better J.D.W.'s we have visited. The prices are very good (as you would expect). I got two main dishes along with two drinks ( one a soft drink) for under £16! The decor is great, so it's worth popping in if you are passing.
Bill K — Google review
Totally wonderful. I simply don't know how this country's great buildings would survive without Wetherspoons. From a converted fire station on the outskirts of Nottingham to this wonderful chapel, I have seen many. The food and drink is the same high standard in all.
Mike W — Google review
Lovely food although they have stopped doing the mixed grill which is a shame. Jakob behind the bar was extremely diligent when I explained that my husband could not have seeds as they made him ill. The There is a screen which shows all ingredients on the various dishes and he checked several times to make sure no seeds were included in the ordered meal. He definitely went above and beyond and is a credit to Wetherspoons.

This is one of wetherspoons finest. It's an old chapel beautifully adapted. PS no parking, but 5 mins walk from seafront with loads of payable room.

One of the best JDW's, lovely place, great English breakfast and friendly, helpful staff - I think her name is Rachel, thank you so much x

Coffee shop
Breakfast restaurant
Nestled in the charming Old High Street, Steep Street Coffee House is a cozy gem perfect for a rainy day. The café offers fresh coffee, homemade cakes, and lunches in a snug setting with old comfy sofas and walls adorned with books. If you're feeling adventurous despite the weather, exploring the quieter beaches and gardens can offer a different perspective under grey skies.
such a wonderful and beautiful coffee shop in folkestone. had a earl grey and raspberry iced tea and the earl grey taste was so yummy. the menu of drinks was so vast and want to try so many things. you must go :)
Gaby M — Google review
Stunning book cafe in a beautiful street in one of the most charming towns in England. Friendly staff and good customer service. However the place is too busy, loud and feels a bit cramped. The coffee was good but the cake was extremely small in size and hugely overpriced. The heart cake was too tough and way too sweet for my liking personally.
Sazzad S — Google review
I really loved this café, super cozy and charming. The croissant was just okay and the jam was a bit basic, but the coffee was very good, and extra points for the salted butter. Overall, the atmosphere is so warm and inviting that it makes the whole experience lovely.
Alejandra G — Google review
Loved this hidden gem in Folkstone.. coming from London wasnt expecting such a chic cafe in here, lovely vibe, lovely cakes and great coffee. Although they dont have many options for food but I guess they focus more on the cakes and coffees. We visited here on a weekend and loved their food vibe so kuch that we came back next day and had some food as well which we did not like. Cakes and coffees were on point. Their coffee menu is so versatile. Highly recommend. Staff is really friendly and welcoming.

Very cutesy! Sat outside with my friends and ordered some drinks! Tasted lovely. Will definitely go again 🍵☕️ I ordered an iced matcha with sugar free vanilla syrups 🧸

I was happy to finally visit the Steep Street Coffee House. I like the decor with all the books around the rooms. Customers can buy books if they find one that interests them. I found the place a bit cramped and it is a busy place. It is a dog friendly establishment but some people might feel uncomfortable if there are too many pets around. We had a lovely hello from one little dog which didn't disturb us. The coffees, chocolate cake and lemoncream croissant were delicious. I certainly would like to try more of the pastries, etc on another visit. The service was good and the staff were friendly and helpful.
Marlene W — Google review
Nice coffee but the "goat's cheese tart" was not good - was just pastry with a bit of dry bubbled egg on top (less than one forkful's worth) and some onion marmalade, not at all what I expected for £6-odd. The quiche was a bit bland but better after adding salt, not worth £8-odd. The brownie was ok but the corner piece they gave me was tiny. Nobody asked if we enjoyed. They were about 60% full. Shame because the vibe is lovely.
Wes G — Google review
The fact that the place is always full and there is a long queue tells you everything you need to know about the quality of drinks/food and service. Suitable for a quick take-away, a study session or a catch-up with friends, the Steep Street Coffee House is a staple in Folkestone and we have been coming here for years. Only a 5min walk away from the sea, 10mins from the bus station and surrounded by craft, clothing and music shops it is a perfect place for a cup of coffe and a bite to eat.

The Lighthouse Champagne Bar, located at Folkestone Harbour Arm, has been sympathetically restored and transformed into a charming champagne bar with stunning views of the seafront, harbor, and coast. Whether you're enjoying a cold glass of champagne and a platter of oysters on a summer's day or bundled up warmly to take in the view on a wintry day, The Lighthouse is an ideal spot for savoring the ambiance.
The staff here is friendly, and the atmosphere is very welcoming. The coffee and food are quite good, with the freshly made crepes being especially delicious and not overly sweet—perfect for breakfast. Additionally, the view is enjoyable and relaxing.
W — Google review
Cozy little place with nice selection of beer and champagne, coffee and hot chocolate are nothing too special. I think they could benefit from making their hot chocolate and coffee just a tad bit better, maybe using a different chocolate powder or learning some simple latte art. It’ll just elevate the feel a little. Friendly staff though! Really nice selection of music which adds to the vibe
Gaayen S — Google review
Arrived Shown to table that had old food residue on it. Given menus to look at the menus had food waste on them. We ordered two crepes, both were ludicrously crispy in texture and the knife wouldn't cut it. Sent back New mediocre pancakes arrived eventually and absolutely nothing offered to dissatisfied customers off the bill. AVOID is my advice

good place for sitting on the harbour and looking back at the town and boats, not for in door but for sunny days. great music and for once the staff are dressed well and smart and look the part. good service for the dark haired girl working thursday 19 june afternoon , just a beer to listen to the music for a bit..

Well, it was Bank Holiday Sunday and Monday, so of course service was a tad slow! But they were friendly so that helps. Note: I went back the next day, so it must have been good. Fabulous venue. A very long comfy bench in the SHADE thank God and rugs and cushions available if needed. I moved into the sun to feel the early evening sun on my back. Bliss. They did a Bucks fizz for £8.50 which I remember being charged for at Kettners in Soho YEARS ago, so very good value. The champagne cocktails were a bit steep at £13. 50, but the peach one was yum - so sip slowly!!!!! And how often anyway do you drink them in the UK, just down the road with sun and sea and free music and a glorious atmosphere. So may be good value at the price, aye? Back to Tuesday with a bump.

The Pilot Beach Bar, located on the western side of the Harbour Arm, offers a refreshing stop after a stroll along Marine Parade and Folkestone's beachfront promenade. Housed in a shipping container, this bar features various craft beer taps including offerings from Kernel and Beavertown. The outdoor area provides a picturesque setting with tables, deckchairs, and seats overlooking the pebbled beach and sea.
Popped in for a quick drink and snacks; the FLOC ale was fantastic, and the cod cheeks and chips were lovely, my daughter couldn't help but pinch one of cod cheeks. Managed to bag seats inside, was pretty busy out in the beer 'garden', with plenty of family's and well behaved dogs too. One of my favourite spots in Folkestone, especially if you're visiting the beach or harbourarm.

I like the concept of the shop, a container turned into a cafe with good views. They also have a recycling scheme more for alcoholic n drinks. In addition, they have old kegs as chair for the indoor seating. There two lads on shift and they were polite and interacted as needed. Can't wait to visit again but more specifically in the summer. Reasonable prices and a very good chilled vibe

Lovely experience being on the sea front & part of "The Arm". Love what they've done with the old fairground ride kit, very ept. Prices however are a bit steep for what it is, a reused shipping container done up. Feedback - would have been nice to have glasses instead of plastic beakers. Wasn't asked if we were going outside, therefore assuming plastic (disposable, non recycled) cups were the only option. I hope they are recycled. Jovial & fun for tourists, prices need to drop & glasses to be offered for us to return though.

Good beach bar. Lots of choices for drinks. It was busy when we went as the sunshine 🌞 was about. However, service was slow as there was only one server.

Stopped by for a quick drink. Love the quirky decor (bumper cars, etc.) on the pebble beach out front. Staff were quick and friendly. Didn't try any food, so I can not comment on that, but for obvious reasons, the drinks are served in plastic cups (not glass). A great sound system gives it a good atmosphere.

Really lovely coffee and hot chocolate, the interior is interesting with a really nice beach vibe. Loving the seating that looks out to the beach and sea. The music they play here works extremely well too. Definitely a place to visit in Folkstone for drinks. Would have been nice to have maybe a selection of cake with the coffees but not a major loss.

Really nice hot chocolate, works well if you’re visiting in winter. Great interior, friendly staff, wonderful view for what it is. It’s quite interesting that it used to be a shipping container. Also the music choices were pretty good, so you enjoy your time there with quality music.
Nuran B — Google review
They don't mix the cocktails so it's a layer of rum followed by sugary ginger beer and finished off with pure lime juice. Still not completely awful thanks to the view and comfy seating. Just ask them to mix the cocktails.

If you're looking for a delightful culinary experience, John Dory Wine Limited is a must-visit. Nestled in the charming area of Sandgate, this venue offers an impressive selection of wines curated by local expert Zeren Wilson. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with friendly staff who are eager to guide you through their concise menu. During my visit, I was particularly impressed by their pasta evening; the food was exceptional and perfectly paired with exquisite wines.
Having heard so much about this place it’s been on my to go list for a long time and finally having the chance to go, it really didn’t disappoint. We had our staff Xmas so here with a bespoke set menu made for us, it was delicious and did not disappoint. If you haven’t been you need to go. Thank you John Dory team everything was delicious and perfect

Wow! We went for the pasta evening and were blown away by the quality of both the food and the wine. The team were incredibly well versed on the wines and found the perfect matches to our dishes. Looking forward to trying their steak frites night next time

My perfect local. Such a beautiful wine shop, and relaxed place to enjoy a glass with friends. The JD team are incredibly knowledgable and have an informed, well selected range of wines to suit most budgets. Brilliant crisps and now Rockfish Tinned fish selection too! Food is great. Simple charcuterie. Feels like being in France. Lots of special foodie nights there too, family and I just enjoyed a brilliant night with celebrity chef Mitch Tonks. Added bonus, right by the sea. A must visit when in Sandgate and Folkestone.

It's really amazing! The atmosphere here is very nice and cozy, giving you a great experience. The wine selection is very diverse and amazing in taste, and the staff is very friendly kind to give you the best according to your choice. The food menu is also very delicious, . If you are looking for a great one, this is a must try. Thank you to amazing team

Possibly the least welcoming wine shop I’ve ever been in and, speaking as a wine lover, let’s face it, it’s a crowded field. Owners sat in the doorway with a sales rep. Stared me down on entry, didn’t say a word and showed very little desire to let me into the shop at all. Really uncomfortable. Didn’t get chance to see the wines but I imagine they favour cold climate.

If you're in Sandgate and haven't been here then you're doing yourself a disservice. Food & wine is epically good. As of writing it's Thursday Pasta nights, first Wednesday of the month is steak nights, and Sunday lunch is French bistro. Occasional pop-up restaurant too. The vibe is spot on. Just back from pasta night, and yeah, can't recommend highly enough.

Came to John Dory after recommendation from a dear pal of mine - this is the real deal Holyfield! I’ve been aching for this kind of swing.., all packed in friendly , knowledgable fashion and the stripped back fafless humanity on display on here. Oh juicy wine too. Love the Burgundy, juice of the juice, big bottles everywhere… superpower comes from the kitchen. Gorgeous food! Churning titanic engine room dealing out whopping plates and nibbles and prices I won’t find anywhere in the county. Honestly let’s keep this a hidden gem. Will definitely come again next time visiting from up north!! Stay out my way , coming through l, toot toot 🚣🏻‍♀️🍷🍷

Space Bar & Kitchen is a quirky and lively bar and dance club located at the top of the Old High Street in Folkestone. It offers a unique experience with silent discos, pop-up food collaborations, and an extensive selection of house and techno music. The venue also boasts a large courtyard at the back and has recently obtained a license extension until 2:30 am. Additionally, Space Bar has expanded its offerings by opening space2stay, providing accommodation for two.
Dan and his team provided a last minute venue, due to the pier being closed because of high winds, for nearly 40 people for my sister in laws 40th b.day, plus still open for members of the public. The whole evening was throughly enjoyable and completely seamless. Huge thank you. 😊 Highly recommend. 👌

This ain't london! £7 for a Hoffmister, proper taking the piss. Your not realising that if you keep it £5.50 - £6.00 people will stay and have a couple at least, but the moment you hear £7 your off. Foolish

My son turned 10 and The Space Bar pizzas are his absolute favs! We were able to book out the whole bar for 30 of us including 13 of my sons friends! To have an hour & half of fun games & delish pizzas! The manager & barmaid were delightful, helping at every opportunity they could! They played a playlist suited to the party & put their disco lights with disco ball on for the whole time too! They made a personalised menu board for the kids & made them feel like grown ups allowing them to order their own pizzas and drinks! They added ice-cream as a desert too. We had a few coeliac guests and one dairy intolerant and these were served the same quality pizzas suiting their needs 😊 If Space Pizzas are a favourite of your family I 100% Recommend getting in touch to book for a special occasion.

This was a lovely place to pass the time on a sizzling spring afternoon. The tunes and vibe reminded me of sunny days in Ibiza. Shame we couldn't hang out longer now that we have a toddler and dog on tow but they also felt very welcome here. Lovely clean toilets too.

This bar has a great, joyful atmosphere! Its very vibey and the noise level is just right. I stayed at the AirBnB room they have attached to the bar - this was also very clean, private, felt super safe, and they provided me with milk for tea/coffee in the morning. It was the perfect space for my solo journey to Folkestone!

For no reason I've walked past this place for too long! Randomly went in to have a look around and stayed for a quick drink! Saw one of the pizzas come out and looked and smelt lovely and will definitely go back to try them. Nice beer selection and one of the best looking garden areas in Folkestone!
Mr K — Google review
I really like this place! It's different, it's quirky, it hits the "this is why Folkestone is a great place to visit " nail, right on the head. Yes the cocktails are expensive, but you tell me a place where they aren't, plus, you don't have to drink cocktails *other drinks are available!" You pay your money and you make your choice. The place has a great atmosphere and caters to all age groups, I've always found a very eclectic crowd in the place and unlike one of the other reviewers, I've always found the staff to be friendly and attentive. Josh, the barman, in particular. He pays attention to his customers and goes out of his way to make sure they're happy - on our last visit he asked us all our names, so we'd no longer be anonymous. That kind of service makes you feel welcome. We really like the place. Oh and in the summer the garden is open too, with music... and the atmosphere extends out there. On another note it used to be a record shop, that I happened to manage for a number of years - there's a commemorate plaque outside on the wall. So it was a great record shop and now it's a great bar..there must be some positive force in the bricks and mortar!

Nestled behind a concealed wall in an antique store, The Potting Shed is a charming speakeasy on the south coast. Owner David Holden crafts classic cocktails like martinis and Sidecars. Reservations are essential due to its small size. Visitors rave about the unique experience of entering through a secret passage after sharing a password and the attentive staff who ensure a delightful time.
What a gem! I visited for the Wednesday wine and cheese evening. I was impressed by the quantity and quality of the cheese boards, with olives, dates, grapes and a variety of crackers, all of which were free, as long as you bought a glass of (excellent) wine and booked in advance. I left a tip to show my appreciation for the cheese. The venue is small and intimate with outstanding service. It's a perfect place to go with a partner or a small group of friends. Highly recommend.

We made our first trip to the Speakeasy last night. Brilliant. Guaranteed it won’t be our last visit. We just loved it. Wonderful on all fronts. David was very welcoming, the ambience is very special. What a gem of a place. Oh and the drinks were great too. 10/10

Hidden behind a door in The Potting Shed on Rendezvous Street is Folkestone’s worst-kept secret (because once you’ve been, you have to tell someone): The Speakeasy Bar. You’ll need the ever-changing password to get in — which only adds to the intrigue. Step inside and you’re in another world: dark walls, low lighting, and cocktails so good you might lose track of time (or even a whole day, I did!). The vibe is effortlessly cool with laid-back but luxe. The mixologists know their craft, whether you fancy a Ginger Daiquiri or a classic Gin Martini. Perfect for date nights, spontaneous catch-ups, or sneaking off after a Quarterhouse gig. Just don’t blame me if you need to write off the next day.

You have to go! What a fantastic, authentic, unique experience with quality and delicious cocktails. I loved the secrecy. You share the password and then walk through the beautiful shop and into a cupboard...a secret thing happens...and you enter the speak easy. It's super cool! We really enjoyed walking along the pier, soaking up the fresh air and peaceful vibe. It feels so charming and full of life at the same time. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Folkestone – it’s ideal for families and for anyone who loves spending time by the sea.

The Folkestone Harbour along with the Lighthouse is an iconic attraction for anyone visiting Folkestone. The place has a long history dating back in the 1900s. The photos along with the valuable information speaks a lot. The Harbour area was quite windy when we visited yesterday but Sun came out later and calmed the environment. There is an entertaining promenade with live music and food cafes along with good seating arrangements. A place worthy to visit in summer.
Khandker Q — Google review
What an amazing place to spend a few hours (or maybe a full day). Absolutely loved what had been done with a disused railway station. There are some great bars eateries, offering exceptional views across the English Channel.
Aluap B — Google review
The harbour arm has been 'done up' and is very nice. There are lots of independent small market shops and places where you can eat and drink, a bit like Christmas Market huts. There is a big outdoor TV screen fir watching sports etc. Not sure whether all this is seasonal abd just maybe weekends out of season? But there are other places such as the very nice bar by the lighthouse, and a small brewery pub that I should imagine stays open more regularly. There is also a few fair rides. The views of folkestone are lovely from here too.

Enjoyed a lovely walk from Lower Leas car park along the promenade & boardwalk to the harbour arm. Here we stopped at the Champagne bar in the old lighthouse. Well worth a visit, nice cocktails and yummy charcuterie.

I adore Folkestone Harbour. The views are absolutely stunning, if you're visiting Folkestone, you simply cannot miss the Harbour Arm. Lovely food. The homemade beef and ale pie was amazing. Nice crust and fantastic chunks of meat. The beef on the bone was also nicely cooked and flavourful. The onion rings pork bites were ample, very crispy and not too oily. The service was friendly and welcoming but could be improved a little - it was slow (wasn’t particularly busy) and the drinks order didn’t go through and we had to reorder at the bar.

Terrific place. With a lovely warm welcome and a terrific can-do attitude. From being introduced to Charlie our waiter to Dan (the owner, we think) suggesting an end of bin red coupled with lovely food made for a super evening. Third time unlucky? This was our third visit here over a couple of years or so. Booked a table for four Sunday lunch, arrived for the table on time. Ordered four roasts but then waited 40 minutes to be told my the manager that he’d chased it and the food was being plated up. About 15 minutes later, still no food and the manager said about the plating up ‘thats clearly not happened’ but did return with one of the roasts. The person with the roast duly sat waiting for the others but they did not come for another 10 minutes, by which time she’d wisely tucked in as it was getting cold. A little over an hour wait for four dinners was poor. Did the waitress lose the order? Don’t know. When the food did turn up, it was swamped in gravy, the lamb was 50% inedible gristle and a small portion. For £25 it was a poor experience, for £25 I’d expect more roast spuds than four halves. We avoided any further contact by paying up and decanted to a coffee shop for pudding and coffee.

My wife & me went to Marleys last night after a lovely sunny day in Folkestone & we are SO glad we did. The staff on arrival were so welcoming & very personable, the atmosphere is very calm & we loved the feel. Our table was cosy & nicely spaced apart for a romantic meal. It's great they support local businesses & the Biddenden's red wine was very quaffable! We both had the Marley's burger & it was the best we have ever had. I've been meaning to come to Marleys for a while, it's been on the list for ages so the anticipation and expectation were high. Finally made it in late Feb25, I was being healthy but my bro was with me to balance it out. Went for pork belly and calamari starters. Man do we love pork belly, it's one of my faves, always a must try if it's on the menu - they didn't disappoint, perfectly cooked, juicy and crunchy, so so good. The Calamari is on every menu these days and shouldn't be hard to nail, but it was chewy/overcooked, coating was tempura light and it didn't keep together - a shame. The mains saved the day and were all round winners, we love them them burgers, bro was very impressed with it. And I was very happy with the duck, cauliflower puree, kale were cooked perfectly and delicious. It was finished with excellent accoutrements (shallots, berries, pomegranate), with tangy shots of flavour complimenting and lifting the other flavours. A nice vibe, and service was nothing short of excellent - nailed the attentive and friendly balance. Expensive, a bit, delicious a lot. Look forward to returning.

Decided to visit after a long hike. We hadn't made a booking but the hostess was professional and welcoming, offering us a table. Service was quick, friendly and flawless. We both had the Pork Belly on creamy mash and it was to die for. Cooked to perfection. Most, if not all, dishes seem to have a gluten free option, which was welcomed. I'm 100% going to visit again to treat my partner. The atmosphere is really intimate and chilled so perfect place for a date night.

Came here last week for a family meal, and was impressed with the quality and amount of food given. So we decided to give it another go but try the value range. We highly recommend this establishment and will be using on a regular basis. Also whilst writing commend our waitress Sharon for her excellent service.

Basically don't bother, we booked for a Sunday roast, the waitress then started to list what they didn't have, no roasts, no fish n chips none of this and none of that, eventually I asked her to list what they did have as that list was shorter. The table next to us had ordered drinks but got up and left them after hearing there was virtually no food, the place was nearly empty, the manager should be sacked for allowing this to happen, no organisation at all, no wonder they keep sending out coupons. I ordered beef cottage pie, you can see from the attached photos what I got, I didn't count the peas 😂🤣

Generally really nice for a traditional pub-attached-to-a- Premier Inn. But just one thing: My wife and I were sat in a lovely quiet alcove that only seated 2 and just as we were about to order food, a waitress seated a family of 6 right on top of us on tables that got joined together to accommodate them all, even though there were loads of big tables free all over the pub. Maybe I'm being a little picky but a review is a review.

Food is average at best. Service very slow. We waited 1 hour for the table to be cleared after our mains, and then only when I asked. Desert took 35 mins to arrive and again only when I chased it. Was cheap, but you can clearly see why. Would not recommend.

We came in for a weekday evening meal and I was impressed with the decor and vibe styling, high-end gastro pub vibes - you can't tell from the outside. We went straight in for the Quattro formaggi (four cheese) burgers that were great, nicely cooked, flavoursome and juicy, really nice. A change from top-line proper burgers like Lucky Chip, but very tasty - variety is the spice. The side were great too, donut sized onion rings and really delicious sweetheart cabbage with green sauce and pomegranate. It wasn't busy, service was great and the vibe was nice - it is a bit pricey but it's worth it. I would like to try more from the menu.

Never judge a book by its cover! You'd never expect such a cosy beautiful interior at first glance. Great staff and delicious food. My only gripe was that I paid a tip twice as I wasn't informed that a "digressionary" charge had already been added to our bill ( 2 people) and I when I increased our bill for our server, he didn't advised me that 10% had already been added. Second time at this place. Last year came here for drinks with friends which was lovely and this time for some food. Had the breakky bao, good stuff. Solid 6/10. Had the steak & eggs, very good stuff. Solid 8,5/10. Really good. Atmosphere is always great, friendly place with friendly staff, lots of dog owners too which makes it more enjoyable. Will definitely return.

Nestled in the heart of Folkestone, The Bouverie Tap stands out as a charming gastropub that perfectly blends traditional pub vibes with a modern twist. This inviting spot is ideal for those seeking refuge from the unpredictable weather while exploring the town. With its hearty meals and refreshing drinks, it offers a cozy atmosphere to unwind after a day of adventures.
The Bouverie Tap is always busy and buzzing when I walk past and I've been meaning to visit. We did so on a Sunday in Feb25 to check out the roast dinners. We made sure we were hungry, having a light breakfast but being hungry when we got there we went for a starter. The whitebait and jackfruit tender/goujons, the fish was great, cooked perfectly crispy and I'm a meat guy but the jackfruit was delicious - the portions were generous i.e. filling. We both had pork belly, and it was great as were the potatoes and yorky, a bit short on veg but not a big deal considering we were stuffed. It was busy, a bit noisy but it's a proper pub so that's expected. The service was prompt and friendly, I recommend and look forward to returning to try more.

Really nice being back (4yrs since last visit). Food good though a bit longer wait. I had mushroom risotto and though hot and very tasty was 'wet'. Deserts took a while but were great when they arrived. Ambience as always was great

Had a fantastic Sunday lunch at The Bouverie Tap. The Sunday roast was cooked to perfection and full of flavour! My partner had the chicken salad which was fresh, vibrant, and delicious. The service was absolutely excellent—attentive and friendly from start to finish. A special mention for the decor, which is stylish and creates a wonderful atmosphere. Highly recommended. Price is £18-£23 per person including drink.

An absolute gem in our neighbourhood. This pub seems unassuming, but the service was friendly, the beers good value and the food outstanding!! We had a scotch egg and the mussels in Thai sauce. The Thai sauce was so flavourful!! Would go back in a heartbeat.

Stumbled across this as it was near our hotel but it was just perfect. Great informal dining for the 3 year old, tasty 10/10 fish n chips and a great selection of ales! If we didn’t live 200 miles away we’d be back a lot!

The Chambers is a celebrated pub in Folkestone that has been a local favorite since it opened its doors in 1998. It offers live music, entertainment, dining, and a great night out for visitors. The pub has become an important pillar in Folkestone's rich music scene by providing a stage for local bands, DJs, and organizing events to support causes.
We went to see Toby Lee play a very intimate gig here. It was epic. The staff, atmosphere and band were excellent - definitely recommend it!

I've heard really good things about this place. And although I've enjoyed my quick visit, it was ruined by something. I have stopped by just for a quick coffee break, and from the space, to the staff, to the atmosphere, everything was fine. Then, the coffee got to the table and that was when everything went wrong. Honestly, it tasted awful. But with a different blend of coffee, this is easily solved. Would say if you are looking for a nice place to have anything other than coffee, this could be the place.

Lovely welcoming pub. Great range of largers, Ales ciders and gins. Food is freshly made. We had the pulled pork enchilada and the foot long chilli dog. Great value for money! Come when they have entertainment.

Friendly staff and a broad mix of custom. Good food, reasonably priced and regular live music at nights. Quiet romantic corner or a vibrant bar that fills with fun loving locals. Upstairs is a great coffee shop and downstairs is a terrific bar.

It's a nice cosy place. I wouldn't complain about the food at all. What we ordered was so tasty. Yummy! It has live music on day other than we visited. I believe this place is buzzing mostly in summers but I took one star away for the menu being a bit expensive. When I say expensive, it's mainly to the ratio of price and portion. Rest if it was reasonable we would have had our dinner there as well. Host was nice, he came over to ask if we liked the food. That I think makes up for everything.

Seafood restaurant
Chummys Seafood Stall is a popular family-run business located in Folkestone, known for serving the best shellfish dishes. The stall offers a mix of modern adaptations like deep-fried chili prawns and traditional favorites such as jellied eels and mussels. While enjoying their freshly cooked cod and chips, visitors can sit under covered tables overlooking the sea with cold beer. The menu includes fresh and affordable shellfish options like dressed lobster and jellied eels.
Highly recommend here for fish and chips, biggest battered fish I’ve ever seen, freshly fried and comes in a cardboard box. I think you could share as a two because there’s a lot of chips in the box, and order some other snack things off menu to try. They have sweet chilli sauce, salt and pepper you can help yourself. The squid tentacles in my opinion was very average, probably pickled and does have a better texture than stir fried, a bit lacking in flavour. I saw scallops bacon baguette from distance, looks very tasty.
Yulin — Google review
Overpriced tourist trap, beware! The worst fish and chips I’ve ever had, soggy batter, tasteless cod, skinny kebab shop fries. The lobster roll tiny and cost £12, it was finished in 2 bites and the lobster was dry.
Tim L — Google review
Fast seafood 😋 and yummy. I wasn't hungry but I couldn't help myself getting oysters which were yummy. I saw nice seafood sandwiches. Fried noddles with king prawns ( really big prawns. King prawns in the supermarkets are much smaller) looked great. If I was hungry they would be my choices.
Meltem K — Google review
The seafood might look good on display but they tasted so blend… Cod was also blend, the batter outweigh the fish. Only good thing here was the chips Squid and lemon and chilli prawn all replied on the seasoning, the squid and prawn themselves have no flavour and not fresh at all Prawn cocktail was up to standard Long queue but truly a big disappointment We waited more than 20 mins for 3 things only. Felt like a tourist trap :(
Chan M — Google review
Very disappointing experience at Chummy's in Folkestone. The staff were arrogant and rude, making the whole visit uncomfortable. The food was no better – the cod and chips were greasy, bland, and seriously overpriced. Worst of all, the oyster was clearly not fresh, which is completely unacceptable from a seafood vendor. There are other seafood options in Folkestone – I strongly recommend trying those instead. If you have a choice, go anywhere else but here. Avoid this place.
Freddie B — Google review
I was to at the beach yesterday and I thought before to come back to London, just to eat a fish and chips. Well fish was extremely oily and disgusting. I ended up with food poisoning by the time I arrived back to London! Never again , and apart of this the price was high as well!

The best seafood I have ever tasted. Clean whelks. Amazing seafood mix. Beautiful batter on the fish. Perfect cockles. And the staff were so friendly, they even sang happy birthday to an elderly man who was with his wife and had travelled there on their anniversary and it had rained so hard. Lovely people and food.

The Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway is a delightful experience for both railway aficionados and families alike. This charming miniature railway spans 14 miles from Hythe to the unique shingle landscape of Dungeness, offering breathtaking views across the Marsh. It's an enchanting journey that not only showcases stunning scenery but also connects visitors to local attractions like the Crafts Fair at the Romney Marsh Visitor Centre in November.
We went yesterday and had a lovely day, we got the train from hythe and went right to the far end and back. The staff are amazing and so helpful and friendly. The kids absolutely loved the train ride. Thank you to all the team for making us feel so welcome
Anthony V — Google review
Good day out, charming little railway with some beautiful steam teams and miniature diesel engines. Found the enclosed carriages slightly difficult to enter and exit, as the low roof and small doors are fairly difficult to access for older adults who wish to enjoy the experience. Some interesting history on show and a brilliant oo scale model railway at New Romney station
Barry B — Google review
An absolutely fantastic day out for railway fans. My daughters loved riding on the train and we all enjoyed the scenic views as we headed towards Dungeness. There is a lovely cafe at Dungeness, and you can climb the lighthouse at weekends.

Lovely railway line. Beautiful trains. I definitely recommend getting the rover pass and hopping on and off at each station. Great fun.
Roberta G — Google review
Brilliant 15 inch gauge railway. We parked at their RHDR Hythe station for the day (£6). We took the train all the way to Dungeness station (approx 1hr), visited the lighthouse (£5 entrance fee and 160 steps to the top, but it does have 2 landings for a rest and information about the lighthouse). Dungeness station has a café with indoor seating and toilets; also parking here is free. The café serves a good variety of food, but you may need to pay by cash as their internet connection for electronic payments isn't very reliable! New Romney station is the main hub of the railway. It has a café with seating. Above the café is a model railway layout with museum exhibits (extra small entrance fee if you didn't buy the all inclusive ticket). The model railway is computer controlled and has buttons to press which activate different features on the layout (great for youngsters). There is also a heritage area near the signal box showing the history of the railway. We'll definitely be visiting again as it is was such an enjoyable day out.

Located in the heart of Folkestone's Creative Quarter on Tontine Street, The Old Buoy is a cozy Belgian bar that offers a downtown vibe distinct from other parts of the city. The venue features oil paintings and warm orange lighting, creating a friendly and inviting atmosphere where patrons can enjoy traditional Flemish dishes such as moules frites, croque monsieurs, and hearty beef stew paired with an excellent selection of Belgian beers.
Absolutely lovely little place packed with character. Service is wonderful Very small menu but inexpensive food comes fast, and is delicious. You can take your dog there too. A real gem Super recommend mussels and chips.

Th old buoy is a hidden gem in Folkestone. We had just visited Brussels and subsequently stumbled upon this special place. We were full of excitement as we walked through the door. It could not have met our expectations better. The atmosphere is lively and gezellig(for any Dutch speakers). The beers couldn't be more authentic and delicious ( there had been special care taken to source the most loved and special Belgian brews). We csnt wait to visit again. Looking forward to trying the food too

Jolson's Party Bar is a hidden gem at the end of Tontine Street, known for its laid-back vibe and local charm. While it may not boast high-end decor or stunning views, it's the perfect spot to wind down after an evening out in Folkestone. With cozy sofas reminiscent of your grandmother's living room and a lively dance floor, this bar attracts a friendly crowd as the night progresses.
Me and Stefan had a very nice time at the party bar. The drinks are cheap, the bar staff are friendly and the music has got some groove to it. The punch bag on the left as you walk in helps to maintain a mild undertone of violence in the main room, just enough to keep you slightly on edge for the whole evening - a perfect balance. We will certainly be returning for more. Warmest Regards, Samuel

Music is good. Staff is friendly. The atmosphere is very bad - drunk kids. Fights. Toilets dirty and definitely need refurbishment/ refresh.
Dace L — Google review
I am extremely disappointed in the service of this establishment. While upon entering I thought this would be a wonderful night filled with laughter and enjoyment. Instead I was met with racial inequality and abuse of power. While attempting to order a drink from the bar staff I was not only ignored but actively psychologically abused and tormented. I am not only now anxious about visiting this establishment again but worried about returning to the local area due to the abusive and inconsiderate attitude of the staff at the party bar. While I understand they have a job to do and a reputation to up hold I find it utterly despicable that the bar staff refused to server us or even speak to me while waiting patiently. We are extremely disappointed in the service and attitude of the staff here.
Aaron R — Google review
So dodgy. Floor is sticky, drinks are bad, bouncers are rude, DJ will promise to play your song and never get round to it, full of old men trying it on with 18 year olds, music so loud that you won't hear for a full day after, lighting effects of a school disco. Also watch yourself as the young guys in here will square up to you just for dancing near them. That being said its pretty much what you expect from a southern club, up north is way better in my experience. Plus it's the only proper club in the town so there's no comparison if you want a night out in Folkestone.
Anon — Google review
First time I have entered this establishment and I have lived in Folkestone 8 years now. £3 entry fee is reasonable considering up-to-date music and a decent size dance floor. Crowd starring getting bigger as the night went on. Everyone was friendly from what I witnessed. And drink prices may not be as cheap as Witherspoon's but large bottle of cider and WKD was £7.90. That's cheaper than many bars in the town. I will be back again, and it will not take 8 years. Overall a place I enjoyed and had a laugh and some fun.
Norman C — Google review
I entered and paid my £5 had 1 drink and left to go and grab a couple of mates. I got back and was told off the door staff I had to pay again even though I had a wrist band on!! Your door staff are quite rude an ain’t very classy. They just like to bully young people! The place is a dump anyway! I’m 41 year from Newcastle visiting Folkstone. Never again!!! And if I could give it zero stars I would!!!

This bustling street-food market has become a cornerstone of Folkestone's gastronomic scene since its revitalization in 2016. Visitors can indulge in mouthwatering dishes like moules frites at Go Dutch or savor hearty sausage rolls at Pork & Co.
The Goods Yard – Folkestone’s answer to summer perfection 🍔🍕🍻 When the sun’s out, this place delivers. Imagine this: A sunny courtyard surrounded by shipping containers dishing out burgers, pizza, Chinese, Greek... A big ol’ screen showing live sport and movies (Tuesdays = film night!) A bar right in the middle so you can sip a cold one while soaking up rays AND it’s all designed to block the wind – genius! The vibe is just brilliant. Clean toilets (thank you 🙏), friendly staff, great energy. I can only imagine what it’s like during the World Cup or Euros… probably electric. The screen’s super bright too – no squinting needed even in full sun. Honestly? Big love for this place. Already planning my next visit.

Shoreline Folkestone is a stunning coastal development that captures the essence of seaside living. Nestled at the end of the beach boardwalk, its unique architecture glimmers in the sunlight, reminiscent of a giant cuttlefish or an otherworldly craft. The views from Shoreline are nothing short of breathtaking, whether you're gazing out to sea or enjoying a meal at nearby venues like Rocksalt and John Dory.
I recently visited Folkestone and discovered Shoreline when I went for a walk on the beach. It is really beautiful and such a cool place to live - under 2 minutes to the water - and lots of nice restaurants and things to do nearby too. I went in and spoke to the sales team who were very welcoming and they gave me a guided tour of some of the apartments and beach houses which are really beautiful. Shoreline is well worth exploring in my opinion if you are looking to relocate and love the sea :)

Buyer beware! These are leasehold traps, sold with ground rent of £500 - they call it "harbour and beach contribution". The government made ground rents illegal for newbuilds so it seems like they found a loophole to charge it. This is a disaster in waiting for the prospective buyer of these leasehold traps. How much will this ground rent increase? Will it double in 5 years? Will the apartments become unsellable? They are looking for fools to buy these. You are guaranteed to lose money if you buy any of these apartments and even worse, you'll end up with court proceedings trying to dispute unfair charges.
