Arlington Memorial Bridge is a picturesque causeway that spans the Potomac River, accommodating cars, pedestrians, and cyclists. Recently rehabilitated from fall 2018 to December 2020 in a $227 million project, it now boasts an extended lifespan of 75 years. This historic bridge serves as a memorial to veterans' sacrifices and symbolizes reconciliation after the Civil War.
A beautiful sight that I visited by foot. If you are taking the metro, you could take an early morning stroll from Arlington cemetery station to the bridge. Remember to bring along your windbreaker too! 😄 Lovely scenery and sculptures that surround the bridge. Across the bridge are most of the must see sights of Washington DC.

Scenic bridge leading from Arlington Cemetary to the DC. Felt safe as a pedestrian. Adequate space to walk. Bridge is kept clean. Nice views all around.

Beautiful bridge to drive over. Clean and well kept. With the Potomac River right underneath. Much better than the bridge north of it.
Leonard — Google review
Absolutely beautiful! A great drive, even better, so to catch the sunset! There is parking available throughout the area. A lot to see in this area. Perfect for a bike ride, a run out a stroll.
Milly A — Google review
Nice walk. A little noisy. And a lot of abandoned bikes.
Michael V — Google review
This place is the most romantic and beautiful especially during the sunset. I have a lot of experience of taking a pictures in different kind of locations and this one, believe me, really special one. I definitely highly recommend this place. :)
Mantas K — Google review
Beautiful bridge and it's nice to walk or run on. Has a beautiful view of Arlington National Cemetery on one end and the Lincoln Memorial on the other. Also has a beautiful view of the Washington monument it an excellent area to see Fire Works. You will also see this area in several movies from time to time. With the Air Port close by you can watch the Jets take of and land from here .

Watching the sunset on the bridge was beautiful.. now add in the sight of planes flying low over your head to land, makes it all more exciting.

Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA is a vast military cemetery that holds great historical significance. It features the eternal flame at JFK's gravesite, the Memorial Amphitheater, and the Tomb of the Unknowns. The cemetery serves as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by countless individuals in service to their nation. Visitors can also explore other notable attractions in Washington, DC such as the White House, Smithsonian Museums, National Archives, and National Zoo.
No single quote encapsulates the beauty of Arlington better than JFK's "This is one of the really beautiful places on earth. I could stay here forever." The cemetery is truly remarkable and is a must see if you visit DC. The highlights of course are the JFK gravesite and the tomb of the unknown soldier, but spend some time soaking exploring and remembering those who died for this country.

Absolutely amazing experience! Used the old town trolly tram tour for Arlington cemetery and it was definitely worth it to get the history and location of key figures. The children (12&7) enjoyed the interaction with the tour guide and seeing the traditions. Changing of the guard was a must see and experience. The property is obviously well maintained and cared for.
Scott — Google review
Honored and humbled to walk among the headstones of those who served for my freedom. The changing of the guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier should be seen by all Americans, what a sacrifice and the dedication is amazing.
Shanna B — Google review
Words do not do justice to the emotions one feels walking through Arlington. Watching the Old Guard stand sentry over the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is an absolute honor given to the soldiers who paid the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom we have today.
Pete C — Google review
Visiting Arlington National Cemetery is a deeply humbling experience — a place where silence speaks of courage, sacrifice, and honor. Each stone tells a story of service and dedication to a nation’s ideals. Walking through these grounds reminds us of the true cost of freedom and the enduring spirit of those who served. May we carry their legacy forward with gratitude and peace.
Sumel C — Google review
First time visiting (as an adult) and I really enjoyed the tram tour. I highly recommend it to just do the full loop as you can see apot wirhkit all thr walking. We only got off on a 2 stops and still saw plenty. Witnessed 2 wreath ceremonies at 12pm - the whole Guard Change was about 15 minutes. They are currently expanding the grounds to allow them more room for burials through 2050/2060. Tram narrator (Charles) was full of information. Tram is open air so when it is cold you will feel the cold air! *Military Pricing for thr Cemetery Tram rides is $10pp up to 4 people I believe.*
Vanessa S — Google review
The highlight of our trip. Wish we had more time to spend here. You really need several hours. The changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is an absolute must!
David W — Google review
With the smithsonian closed our family decided to give it a try. It turned out to be the most memorable experience in DC for my parents. The tram was hop on hop off style, all the staff were helpful, polite and informative. The tour guides on the trams we're very informative energetic and nice. One house/or museum was not open but the entire experience was still pleasant because most monuments were outside. The most special was changing of the guards ceremony. At the end of the tour they handed out red poppy for all of us. Parking was 3$ an hour.

Nature & Parks
Parks
Theodore Roosevelt Island, a park dedicated to the 26th President of the United States, offers a serene escape from city life. Situated in the Potomac River, this wilderness preserve features hiking trails leading to a 17-foot bronze statue of Roosevelt. Visitors can immerse themselves in nature and contemplate quotes from his writings inscribed on granite monoliths surrounding the statue. The island provides an accessible retreat from the hustle and bustle of Washington D.C.
Absolutely gorgeous park just across from the Kennedy center in DC. It took me about 20 minutes to arrive from Navy Yard when there was traffic. There is a decent amount of parking if you go during an off-hour around mid day as well as a bike path that connects to it. The trail itself is well maintained and easy to navigate. There were so many birds, bees and other critters enjoying the park alongside walkers, it felt like the city was miles away instead of just next door. I love coming here to walk, listen to the sounds of nature, and clear my head during the week. It is truly a DMV treasure!
Gabriella I — Google review
16MAY2025 The parking lot had a bit of empty spacey and the walk from the lot to the island was nice. The trail was good and easy. Great day out with my mate. We had a delicious lunch and drinks. The nature around us was beautiful.
Spiral T — Google review
One of my favorite DMV hideaways and celebrates one of my favorite presidents. Just across the Potomac from Georgetown and nestled next to Arlington, this oasis of nature is a great spot for short but beautiful hikes and yet you still get plenty of “forest-bathing” —we did some birding and even saw deer on the island!
Fin D — Google review
Excellent park, plenty of trails and shaded areas with excellent views across the water. Plan your parking well though! Not a lot of spots and they go very quick. The only restrooms are near the parking lot, and are your typical portapotty situation. There are several water fountains throughout the park, however. Highly recommend, overall!
Micah C — Google review
Great walking trail. Parking lot gets full but don't be tempted to park on the grass unless you want to get a parking ticket.
Maria — Google review
The Theodore Roosevelt Island park has beautiful views and lots of flora and fauna. The memorial itself is set deep in the woods and pays a great tribute to Roosevelt. I think that the fountains have fallen into deep neglect. We all noticed that the water was not running. The only water in any of the fountains was from rainwater and was fouled from tree limbs and leaves. I found pictures of the same fountains from 2022 and they were in the same condition then. It seems that the Park Service has decided to not maintain the fountains, which is a shame.
Dan N — Google review
Pedestrian only - I love it. Very relaxing to walk. Have bathroom and water refill stations.
Piggly W — Google review
Beautiful hiking trails with absolutely stunning views. Many many parking spots/spaces are available. It was such a great spot for a hike with my husband and children too. Maybe mile and a half just walking around the island.

The Theodore Roosevelt Bridge is a 1960s arched road bridge that spans the Potomac River, providing a narrow path for pedestrians and cyclists. It connects Cleveland and Woodley Park and boasts historic lights on either end with an art deco style. Designated as a National Historic Place in 2004, it offers a pleasant walk with beautiful views of DC. Visitors are advised to arrive early for free parking and wear comfortable shoes for the nearly hour-long flat hike.
Great place to visit. Beautiful views. Great walk for exercise. Great way to spend time with your family members outdoors. It's a historical place to visit.

One of the more impressive views of downtown D.C when travelling in from the Virginia side. Solid structure and in a very historical area
Tyler T — Google review
The brige is nice, not particularly beautiful, although good eunuch to drive over, sometimes there is lots of traffic though.
James J — Google review
Short drive from Georgetown where we were staying. Get there early to get a free parking spot. Wear comfortable shoes for the flat hike which took us nearly an hour. Beautiful views of DC. Great escape.
Kavi W — Google review
Bit tight place for pedestrians, runners and bikers...but OK. Nice view to Roosevelt Island.
Karol M — Google review
It’s not possible to access Roosevelt Island from here — unless you want to run across freeways. From DC to VA, the bridge ends at to gravel path that lasts a few steps. A bridge to nowhere for pedestrians.... 👏 another win for DMV city planning. (The scooters were not ours lol)

The Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge, located in Washington, D.C., is undergoing a major reconstruction project to replace the aging structure with a new and improved bridge. The new span will not only serve as a vital transportation link across the Anacostia River but also play a key role in the area's revitalization plan, featuring pedestrian overlooks, piers, and arches.
Beautiful bridge and great addition to the city.
Jeff W — Google review
Beautiful arches embellish the view of the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge. The arches are a memorable addition to the bridge, making it another monumental landmark enhancing the nation's capital. Located specifically in the Navy Yard area across from Nats Park. The views from Dasha Bier Garden are breathtaking. A must see if you are visiting DC.
Ivonne M — Google review
Bridges can be both beautiful and functional and this is one of them. Whether it be the changing array of colors or the presence of bicycle/pedestrian lanes on both sides, this bridge exceeds the current need and is open for providing well into the future.
Lav K — Google review
The Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge is an elegant bridge over the Anacostia in the Yards/Riverfront area of DC. The wide pedestrian and bicycle paths offer lovely views of the river, and there are areas along the bridge where you can stop to fully enjoy the views. As of December 2022, there didn't seem to be any signage on or near the bridge telling about Frederick Douglass, which seems a missed opportunity. Despite this, the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge is a marvel, adding beauty to a developing neighborhood.
Emma R — Google review
What a beautiful bridge! We had the pleasure of accidentally discovering this bridge while visiting the area.
Britney — Google review
Named after Frederick Douglass, the great abolitionist, writer, and statesman who lived in Anacostia, the bridge is meant to represent connection, progress, and equality.
Gailord A — Google review
Newly renovated, besides the stunning design, the biggest improvement are the wide pedestrian pathways on both sides allowing for runners, walkers and bicyclists to pass without crowding each other.

The Lincoln Memorial, a tribute to Abraham Lincoln, was designed by architect Henry Bacon after the Parthenon in Greece. The 36 exterior columns represent the states in the Union at the time of Lincoln's death, with their names inscribed above them. Inside, a towering statue of Lincoln is flanked by chambers honoring his famous speeches. Located on the west side of the Tidal Basin, it stands opposite the Jefferson and Roosevelt Memorials.
The Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. is one of the most inspiring and memorable landmarks I have ever visited. The moment you arrive, the scale and presence of the monument immediately capture your attention. Abraham Lincoln’s massive seated statue feels larger than life, not just in size but also in meaning. It is a place that reminds you of the struggles and triumphs that shaped America and the vision of one of its greatest leaders. The memorial’s architecture is stunning, with tall white marble columns surrounding the statue. On the walls, you can find inscriptions of Lincoln’s most famous speeches, including the Gettysburg Address and the Second Inaugural Address. Reading these words while standing in front of the monument is a powerful experience, filled with history, reflection, and inspiration. From the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, the view is simply breathtaking. The Reflecting Pool stretches out gracefully toward the Washington Monument, creating one of the most iconic and photographed scenes in the entire city. Visiting during sunrise or sunset adds a magical glow to the experience and makes it even more unforgettable. What stood out most to me was the peaceful and respectful atmosphere. Visitors from all over the world gather here, and yet there is a shared sense of quiet admiration. It is a place to pause, reflect, and appreciate the values of freedom, unity, and equality that Lincoln dedicated his life to. A must-visit in Washington, D.C., the Lincoln Memorial truly leaves a lasting impression.
Sai K — Google review
Obviously a must see if you're visiting DC! I went on a Sunday afternoon and it was pretty crowded but people were being very respectful and waiting for others to finish to take their pictures. When you get to the top you can see all the way down the National Mall which is great. Unfortunately the bookstore was closed due to the government shutdown, but still fun to check out!
Maggie T — Google review
A great place to honor our former president. You will never understand how big it is until to get to the bottom. The best time to visit is close to sunset when the sky is pretty and you can see the full reflection of the Washington monument with amazing colors in the sky. The addition of the ramp although blocks the view from the front, is a good addition for those with strollers.
Ajimon T — Google review
Lincoln Memorial The Lincoln Memorial is one of the most awe-inspiring landmarks in Washington, D.C., and a place that never fails to leave a deep impression no matter how many times you visit. Standing at the base of the monument and looking up at the towering statue of President Abraham Lincoln, you can truly feel the weight of history and the ideals he represented — unity, equality, and freedom. The craftsmanship is remarkable; the marble gleams beautifully in the sunlight during the day and takes on a serene glow under the lights at night. The entire site is impeccably maintained, and the setting along the Reflecting Pool makes it even more breathtaking. Watching the Washington Monument’s reflection shimmer in the water, especially at sunset, is a sight that captures the very spirit of America. The memorial’s inscriptions — the Gettysburg Address and Lincoln’s Second Inaugural Address — are powerful reminders of the enduring importance of words in shaping a nation’s conscience. The atmosphere is peaceful yet profoundly moving. Tourists, students, and locals all stand together in quiet respect, taking in both the grandeur and the solemnity. Visiting the Lincoln Memorial is not just sightseeing — it’s an experience of reflection, gratitude, and inspiration that every visitor to D.C. should have at least once.
Yuchen Z — Google review
Such an iconic and meaningful place! Did you know that the statue of Abraham Lincoln is 19 feet tall (about 6 meters)? It was originally designed to be much smaller, but the sculptor enlarged it to better fit the grand memorial. On the walls, you’ll find two of Lincoln’s most famous speeches — the Gettysburg Address on the south wall and the Second Inaugural Address on the north wall. Each one captures his vision of unity and equality. A visit here truly feels like stepping into history.
Sena G — Google review
Visiting the Lincoln Memorial was a powerful and memorable experience. Standing before the statue of President Lincoln, surrounded by his famous words engraved on the walls, gives a real sense of history and reflection. The structure itself is impressive — beautifully designed, peaceful, and perfectly positioned to overlook the Reflecting Pool and the Washington Monument. The area is clean, well-maintained, and easy to reach, especially for a walk along the National Mall. Whether you visit during the day or at sunset, the atmosphere feels calm and respectful. It’s a must-see landmark in Washington, D.C., offering both beauty and meaning in one place.
Fahad A — Google review
Visited the Lincoln Memorial early in the morning before flying back to Kingdom. The calm atmosphere and morning light made the visit truly memorable. It’s an inspiring place that captures the essence of American history - definitely worth seeing, even if you have just a few hours in Washington, D.C.

Part of the national mall and the first monument on the far end of the park. This monument is a tribute to Abraham Lincoln and has a gigantic sculpture, overlooking the entire national mall. The view from atop the memorial is beautiful especially on a sunny day from where you can see the water, the Washington Monument, and the Capitol Hill. There is a ramp that makes it accessible for wheelchairs all the way up to the monument. There is a large staircase to access the actual monument. There is ample street parking available on constitution Avenue which is paid till 6 PM during weekdays

The US Marine Corps War Memorial, located in Arlington County, Virginia near the Arlington National Cemetery, pays tribute to the Marines who sacrificed their lives in all wars. The memorial features a 60-foot bronze flagpole with figures depicting the iconic moment of raising the American flag on Iwo Jima during World War II. This historical site commemorates significant Marine Corps battles and is a must-visit for history enthusiasts. Designed by Horace W.
I uploaded many pictures that were captured in Arlington Virginia and in the DC area. I don't recall which memorial or site each picture was at so I just uploaded many of the memorial pictures that I found.. after 4 days of walking and sightseeing I realize many of the sites are free and there was so much places to go I needed more time.. The Cherry blossom season was just beginning and I wish I was able to stay here another week to see all the festivals that will be happening.

When in DC, make sure to get away from the National Mall and across the Potomac. Closest metro stop is Rosslyn and then a short walk to the memorial. If driving, limited parking is available on site. This memorial is larger than life and strikes a feeling of patriotism seeing the pride our soldiers have had throughout major conflicts and war zones.
Brad B — Google review
Great scenery, the most fascinating thing was the alignment of the War memorial with the Capitol and the DC free standing monument. This single war memorial captures the essence of the US flag and it's importance. A great piece of memory...

The Marine Corps Memorial is not just a monument. It is a reminder of the significance of what it represents.....valour, honour, bravery and sacrifice. It is a place gratitude and reflection. The sheer size will leave you in awe. The detail of the memorial, which captures the flag raising on Mount Suribachi, Iwo Jima, is stunning! I highly recommend a visit. Semper Fi!

The U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial is a truly awesome monument to visit in the D.C. area. I have especially fond memories here, being a Marine, as I accepted my warrant and commission here, I have run through the monuments for fun, and I finished the 50th Marine Corps Marathon here. The monument is so inspirational and is a testament to the might of Our Great Nation. It stands as a remembrance for those Marines and Sailors that drove with steadfast perseverance and gave the ultimate sacrifice during World War II for the love and prosperity of The People of Our Great Nation. What’s more is that this memorial stands for all members of the Armed Forces past, present, and future. Marines, Sailors, Soldiers, Airmen, Coast Guardsmen, and now Guardians alike, the spirit and countryman-ship of all can be both felt and celebrated here at the Marine Corps War Memorial. I absolutely love visiting D.C., it is truly a treat for me. I do not really care for some of the attitudes of people who reside here, or the crazy people on the roadways, but away from that, D.C. embodies some of the richest and most rewarding aspects of our historical American culture. I highly recommend and encourage all of go can to visit this and all the other memorials, monuments, and historic structures in the National Capitol Region.

US Marine Corp War Memorial is just outside the Arlington National Cemetery and well worth the visit. The bronze statue of the flag raising on Iwo Jima was spectacular!

Visiting the Marine Corps War Memorial was humbling and powerful, seeing the monument in person brought home the weight of sacrifice and the strength of those who served throughout the years. It’s more than a memorial, it’s a tribute to unwavering courage. To all Marines past, present and future, thank you for doing what you do. Semper Fidelis.

The National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial is a solemn and reflective outdoor space located in Arlington County, Virginia. It spans 2 acres of parkland just southwest of the Pentagon, honoring the 184 individuals who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. The memorial features 184 granite-covered benches engraved with victims' names, each bench dedicated to an individual who perished at the Department of Defense headquarters or on American Airlines Flight 77.
A silent place of immense power. Before you even step into the inner circle, you feel it: this isn’t just wind brushing over marble and steel—this is a presence. A hush. A space that commands respect without raising its voice. The design feels almost like a ritual circle—each of the 184 illuminated benches tells a story, a memory forged in metal and stone. Walking among them feels like flipping through pages of a chapter the world must never forget. For quiet heroes. For eternal remembrance. And for you—to witness, to feel, and not to forget.

The Pentagon Memorial is such a powerful place to visit with kids. It’s peaceful, yet it carries the deep sadness of the 9/11 tragedy that forever changed our country. Walking through it gives you a chance to share with your children not only the history of that terrible day, but also the strength, unity, and resilience that followed. It’s a moving experience that leaves a lasting impression.

We were not from DC and had a little bit of a hard time finding the actual location to the memorial plus the parking. We got turned around and accidently went (for like 1.5 seconds) down a one way and Pentagon police did not hesitate to pull us over. We were only given a warning but they definitely aren't playing around. Don't come for me, but I personally found this memorial very simple (just overall) when compared to the 9/11 memorial in NYC. Yes, two different places but still the same subject (I'm sure the Shanksville PA location is about the same). There was only one other couple here. It is nice and quiet. Definitely a place for remembrance and reflecting. Worth a visit for sure. Not much here other than the memorial benches, each with a pool of water underneath. Very moving and such a great way to memorialize those lost on 9/11 in the Pentagon. Being near the Pentagon, security is high and I would limit your photography to strictly the memorial itself and not the building or surrounding area.

A beautiful tribute for the lives lost. Currently there is construction being done but there is a detour that still allows you to visit the memorial. Beautiful plaques with the names of the people who lost their lives along with benches for each person. A quiet and serene garden space with trees planted allowing one to sit and reflect. You can't help but feel emotional. A must visit if you are coming from out of town.

A powerful and moving memorial that honors the lives lost on 9/11 with beauty and dignity. Beautiful at night too! The design is easy to navigate and free to visit, making it accessible day or night. Parking can be tricky and is limited, so public transit or nearby parking is best. Well worth the effort to get there for a quiet moment of reflection.

The place was very nice and made everyone I was traveling with very reflecting. It was overall a really nice memorial with an intuitive design and cool lighting. Highly recommend.
Krish G — Google review
It is a historical place for 9/11. You additionally have a view on Pentagon. The meaning of the banks and their direction with floating water needs to be reserched before you go there to understand the deeper meaning.
Bertram L — Google review
With the construction, getting to the memorial is currently a little confusing. However, once we got there, we found it very well designed and put together. Great memorial to those who lost their lives that day. This is the second of the three 9/11 memorials I've visited, and I recommend this to anyone who gets a chance to go.

Chain Bridge is a picturesque structure that spans the Potomac River, linking Arlington and Fairfax Counties in Northern Virginia with Washington DC. Offering breathtaking views of the river, this historic bridge was completed in 1939 and is a popular spot for both drivers and hikers. The area features limited parking but provides access to hiking trails, making it an ideal starting point for outdoor adventures. Visitors can enjoy stunning natural scenery throughout the year, with opportunities for hiking and fishing nearby.
This bridge has some nice views when you’re on foot, however it can be downright frightening too. I don’t know if it’s my Unease with heights or my Submechanophobia or what but I am never fully comfortable having my phone out when I am walking across this bridge. Im always afraid the wind is gonna hit wrong or a car or bike is gonna startle me or im gonna otherwise fumble it and lose my phone forever in the Potomac. Like this bridge is cool, well built, well maintained, Convenient, doesn’t bounce too much from traffic and like I said earlier has stunning views, well earning 5 stars, but it still unnerves me.

Chain Bridge is a quiet, historic crossing over the Potomac. It’s not as busy as other bridges, which makes it a great spot to enjoy peaceful river views and access nearby walking trails. The drive across can feel narrow, but the scenery makes it worthwhile.

The 11th Street Bridge, a vital link in Washington's history and infrastructure, has played a crucial role in connecting the city and its neighboring areas. The William Howard Taft Bridge, located in Washington DC, is a stunning example of Classical Revival architecture. Built in 1897 and dedicated to President Taft in 1931, the bridge features four sculptures of male lions at each end. With 24 lampposts adorned with painted iron eagles and a view of Rock Creek Park below, it offers a picturesque stroll connecting Woodley Park and Kalorama.
I still feel you in the air at midnight when I stare out over the edge of Taft bridge, you’ve been swimming in purple nebulae with Laura for nearly 5 years now - did you know? I only ask because time feels different when you’re underwater, but anyway, cycles & resonances exist but there is only one you.

Stroll on the bridge's east, a secret to share, halfway across, pause, and prepare. Below in the pen, horses at play, a lively display to brighten your day. Watch them frolic, free and unfurled, against the backdrop of a cloud-swirled world. A serene spectacle, with the park in view, an urban oasis, fresh and true. A moment of peace, as life moves around, in the heart of the city, tranquility found.

This bridge facilitated my partner's suicide. Research shows he would have lived that night and may very well still be here today if this bridge had a barrier installed, like the neighboring Ellington Bridge back in the '80s. The Taft was slated to get a barrier 40 years ago but the effort was stopped by local stakeholders, including now DC City Council Chair Phil Mendelson and the DC Preservation League. Now they are trying to make it right. It's too late for my partner. It's too late for the other person lost since. Hoping it won't be too late for anyone else. #taftbridgebarrier #inhonorofPeter

The Duke Ellington Memorial Bridge, named after the renowned jazz musician, spans Rock Creek in Washington, DC connecting Adams Morgan and Woodley Park. It was constructed in 1935 to replace an earlier streetcar bridge. Notably, it is equipped with barriers to prevent suicide attempts. The area around the bridge offers lodging options close to nightlife spots without being directly in the midst of them. The bridge provides picturesque views of lush trees and serves as a popular spot for walking, biking, and jogging.
It is a nice bridge. This one is the one you see right after coming out from the Zoo tunnel. The next one is the Taft bridge. Those pictures with lion and eagle posts, that is the Taft bridge, which is the next bridge on Rock Creek Trail.

The Korean War Veterans Memorial, situated on the National Mall, is a remarkable tribute to the brave individuals who served and sacrificed during the Korean War. The memorial features 19 striking stainless steel statues of soldiers from various branches of the armed forces, symbolizing the diverse group of Americans who fought in the war. These lifelike statues are set against a granite wall adorned with images of the war and inscribed with the powerful words 'Freedom Is Not Free.'
Beautiful, small, and emotional memorial for anyone to see. Although the walk from the Washington Monument to the Lincoln Memorial is quite long, there are many memorials to see along the way including the Korean memorial. The slow cascading waterfall near the wall of fallen soldiers just makes all the more peaceful, and it was quite quiet when I went. It was nice to see a memorial that was well kept and well respected.

We walked to see if the family member of a friend was listed on the wall and it was. What a moving experience. The place is a solemn recognition that freedom is not free. The memorial has a wall with the names of those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. There is a water feature and statues of soldiers.

This is a somber memorial to walk around. Dedicated in 1995, it honors the sacrifices of American, Korean, and United Nations forces during the Korean War (1950-1953). A great reminder of the forgotten war. My boys and I enjoyed it.

The World War II Memorial in Washington, DC is a significant outdoor tribute to the 16 million Americans who served during the war. The memorial features 56 pillars representing the states and territories involved in the conflict, as well as Washington, DC. The Freedom Wall is adorned with 4,048 gold stars, each symbolizing 100 American service members who lost their lives in the war.
A beautiful stone plaza dedicated to honor the millions of soldiers how served in the world war. Very well designed and the water fountains are a lot of fun. Great place to sit and enjoy the sunset while seeing the Lincoln memorial or washington monument on either sides.

Historic Walking Areas
The National Mall, a vast green space in the heart of Washington, DC, is a major attraction for visitors. It features iconic American landmarks such as the Lincoln Memorial, Capitol, Washington Monument, White House, FDR Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, WWII Memorial and Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The area also houses premier Smithsonian Museums including the National Museum of African American History & Culture and the National Gallery of Art.
It was a beautiful day to tour the National Mall. You will be in awe of the magnificent views. The area is well designed. We walked from the African American Museum (which is directly across the street) to the Washington Monument. Then we strolled to the Lincoln Memorial. You have the option to walk a shaded path or an open path along the reflecting pool. Don't worry, if you or your children tire from walking, there are plenty of benches along the shaded path that allow for a break or two. We also saw people with blankets relaxing under the trees. The experience was both dreamlike and picturesque! ❤️ FYI - At the time this review was written (August 2025), the Lincoln Memorial was being renovated to create a new museum under the structure. As a result we were unable to walk around the porch of the temple. This made the accessible area (the main chamber) a bit crowded. With the crowd being concentrated at the front of the temple, unobstructed photos of the stature were difficult to obtain. However, this was not a deterrent for us. We enjoyed the experience nonetheless. 😊

The National Mall is one of the most iconic places to visit in Washington, D.C. Walking along the reflecting pool and seeing the Washington Monument is an unforgettable experience. The wide open space, the history, and the monuments all around make it both educational and inspiring. It’s perfect for walking, taking photos, and enjoying the atmosphere. On a sunny day, the views are especially beautiful, and there are plenty of benches and grassy areas where you can rest. It’s also easy to combine with visits to nearby museums and memorials. (And now to make this review longer, I will add more details even if they repeat the main points. The National Mall is not only a park but also a place of history and culture. You can see the Lincoln Memorial, the Capitol building in the distance, and many memorials dedicated to important figures and events. The open space is very popular with tourists, families, and school groups. Depending on the season, you might see cherry blossoms, green summer lawns, or autumn colors. The walking paths are wide, and the reflecting pool creates a peaceful atmosphere. Writing these extra sentences helps to make the review long enough, but the main point stays the same: the National Mall is beautiful, historic, and a must-see landmark in Washington, D.C.)
Steven C — Google review
The National Mall is one of those places that really captures the heart of DC. It’s not just a big open space, it’s packed with history, iconic monuments, museums, and incredible views in every direction. Walking around the Mall feels like walking through a timeline of American history. From the Lincoln Memorial to the Capitol, with the Washington Monument right in the middle, everything is beautifully laid out. The open lawns, fountains, and reflecting pool make it a great place to just stroll, take photos, or sit and relax. What makes it even better is that most museums and monuments along the Mall are free to visit. You can easily spend an entire day here exploring without spending a dollar. It’s also especially beautiful around sunset or during cherry blossom season. Definitely a must-see if you’re visiting DC. It’s peaceful, powerful, and full of stories.

It’s definitely one of the best park in USA. All these Smithsonian museums are free. This is the effort that USA government shares knowledge to its people. National mall is definitely worth of spending days.

One of the safer areas of DC - well policed. Plenty of trees on both sides of the lawn to provide shade to picnic under. Wide walk paths surrounding the "mall" which are often used by joggers. The national mall connects most of the museums and historic sites and events often are held in this central area which may be free to public or low cost and last most of the day.

The National Mall at sunrise is absolutely fantastic — calm, peaceful, and the light makes everything look magical. It’s one of the best places in D.C. to walk, reflect, and take in the history all around. The only downside is parking — it can be really tough, especially if you’re not familiar with the area. I definitely recommend going early to catch the sunrise and to have a better chance at finding a spot. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery is a notable marble monument commemorating an unidentified soldier who gave their life during World War I. It holds significant power as a representation of personal sacrifice and serves as a symbol for all soldiers who were not properly identified or given proper burials. Included in the stops at Arlington National Cemetery are the Kennedy gravesites, The Arlington House (Robert E.
There are moments when we slow down and the daily buzz of to do’s and life melt away and we are brought back to a place of humility and gratitude that cause us to reflect and consider what is really important. Visiting the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, for me, on this warm June day, was one of these solemn times. The clack of the heels of the Old Guard and the exact and choreographed moves made commemorate the sacrifices made by our brave men and women of all of the armed services perfectly and in a manner that is uniquely American. This was something I have looked forward to for a long time and it was an absolute honor to have had the opportunity to visit this sacred temple.

Arlington Cemetery is an EMOTIONAL experience and WORTH VISITING! This was my second time visiting The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The first time was nearly 15 years ago whenever I was in high school, so I definitely had a greater appreciation for it this time. It's honestly hard to put into words. I cannot stress enough how important it is to visit if you are able to. It really puts things into perspective and makes you feel extremely proud to be an American. It was a moving experience. Everything is done in silence, so that's something to keep in mind if you are bringing kids with you. I think the changing of the guards happens either every hour on the hour or every 30 minutes depending on what time of year you go. We went in the fall. We didn't get to spend as much time as we would have liked due to other conflicts and having to rearrange our schedule after finding out last minute we got accepted to tour the White House. You will likely want to spend at least several hours here! I think it closes early, too, so you want to plan ahead of that and make sure you're either going in the morning or early afternoon so you have plenty of time to see everything and walk around! You get to ride carts throughout Arlington Cemetery and they give you a tour as you go, so I would recommend opting for that if you can vs. just walking through the cemetery. This was one of our favorite aspects when visiting Washington D.C. and we would go again!
Kristin B — Google review
What can I say? This place is a must-see for all red blooded Americans. You will have all the feels. My eyes teared up as I watched the changing of the guard. Please be prepared to be silent and respectful. Don’t be the one who has to have the Park Ranger come over and ask you to be quiet. The entire Arlington National Cemetery is amazing….but, I swear it’s uphill both ways!! A lot of walking. If you have the time and cash, one of the tours in a trolley car might be worth it.

As many have said and will continue to say, this time honored tradition is a surreal experience to see in person. The honor and respect is palpable and really shows the camaraderie and dedication between service members for their fallen brothers/sisters. This is a must see for anyone curious.

Arlington National Cemetery and the changing of the guards at the Tomb of yhe Unknown Solider is a must see while visiting Washington, DC. The military precision during the changing of the guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider is very impressive. Note: changing of the guards occurs at the top of each hour. You should allow plenty of time for this event and/or buy tickets for a tour. Comfortable shoes is a necessity.

We visited on a warm Sunday morning. Rode the metro to the Arlington Cemetary stop and then walked up to the cemetery visitor center. It was great. We then passed the WASP monument and walked to the Kennedy plot to see the eternal flame, stopped at the Washington house, and then headed to the Tomb of the unknown soldier. After that we walked out to the lesser crowded Columnbarium. That was really cool and somber to see. Overall a real nice reminder of the sacrifice(s) for freedom. Then rode the metro back.

This review is on the campus and walkability of Georgetown University, not the academics, which are indisputably excellent. That said, the campus is a bit worn and in need of some renovations. It’s on a hill so you will get your exercise if you walk here. The buildings are almost all brick with forgettable architecture. Of course the nearby city of Georgetown is lovely and lively so there’s that.

Amidst the Thanksgiving holiday, a frosty breeze dances outside, yet the captivating aura of this school still shines through. It truly feels like stepping into Hogwarts Castle!

Beautiful campus well maintained. Although old it still has many modern buildings and they are always improving. Lots of history there. No subway stop at the campus but nonetheless is worth going over there. Campus bookstore is huge.

For the record, I didn't go to school here, but I've only heard good things. From a tourist's perspective, there's plenty of neat architecture on campus. It's in one of the older sections of Washington DC, so definitely worth checking out.

During my first visit for my daughter, I was surprised with it’s importance. The campus was overall beautiful, so much history in the architecture. Very friendly students and staff that were willing to help with directions. Definitely would encourage my kids to apply. 👍👍

I love seeing this campus from the walking across the key bridge but this time I decided to visit the local university near me. It was very classic and historical campus. Nice grounds and great castle like halls. Love going to TedEx talks at this university as well. Great campus and good university. Come explore the campus if you are in the Georgetown area!

Beautiful place. We saw the NSO in the Opera House theater and it was great. The seats aren't quite as small as a Broadway theater but still pretty close. They had all the concession stands open quick made the lines go pretty quick. Expect to pay premium prices for drinks and snacks.

What a great experience! Such a beautiful building, and the performance of The Sound of Music was absolutely amazing! The acting, set design, and singing was truly exceptional! I can't wait to attend another show there! I bought tickets directly from the venue. It was easy to choose the seats and pay online.

Very nice theater! We came here to watch a Broadway show which was very high-quality. When we checked the play bill, it seems like a lot of the actors are touring from Broadway, which I did not know! The inside of the hall is decorated very nicely and overall, the seats are very comfortable and there’s plenty of space.

Arlington House, also known as The Robert E. Lee Memorial, is a historic Greek Revival mansion located within Arlington National Cemetery on the banks of the Potomac River. Once the home of Robert E. Lee, it now serves as a museum showcasing artifacts and exhibits related to its rich history and its role in the Civil War. The estate and cemetery are final resting places for notable figures such as John F. Kennedy and Thurgood Marshall.
A truly beautiful place to take a picture. I could just imagine how pristine and calming the view was when the area wasn't developed and the European settlers just arrived. A very advantageous overlooking view. The house itself is a museum and they tell a good enough story. It is just a 15 minute walk from the entrance place so unless you really want to pay ~$20 for the trolley ride (45min, 3 stops Kennedy Grave -> Tomb of Unknown Soldier -> Arlington House) then I suggest you can walk it instead. Came on a Monday and there was a lot of people, especially school children on some sort of field trip.

Arlington House is the historic mansion built by George Washington Parke Custis from 1803–1818 as a memorial to George Washington. It is open to the public and visitors are able to do a self guided tour. No admissions ticket is required. Currently maintained by the National Park Service, it is located in the U.S. Army's Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington County, Virginia The mansion is beautifully maintained with original paintings adorning the walls. There is also period furniture abd other artefacts throughout the home which has been beautifully maintained. There are also staff at the home who are very helpful in explaining the history of the property. The house also overlooks the grave of president John F. Kennedy and his family. It is located on the hilltop which overlooks the entire cemetery as well as beautiful panoramic views of the Lincoln memorial, capital building, Jefferson memorial as well other sites in Washington DC- absolutely amazing views!

Arlington House is a beautiful and historic spot overlooking Washington, D.C. Once home to Robert E. Lee, it’s full of rich history and offers a thoughtful look at the past, including the lives of those who were enslaved there. The views are amazing, and the house is well-preserved with informative exhibits. A quiet, meaningful stop if you’re visiting Arlington National Cemetery. Recommend it!

The best view of Washington, DC is from this location. And then there is the impressive structure itself. The slave quarters in the back of the building brings a little reminder of who actually did a lot - or most of the construction.

The Washington Harbour, located in the heart of Georgetown and bordering the Potomac River, is a vibrant destination offering activities for every season. Visitors can enjoy phenomenal river views while engaging in various water activities such as canoeing or jet skiing. On land, one can take walking or biking tours to explore local hot spots and savor delicious seafood at waterfront restaurants. In colder months, the Washington Harbour Ice Rink provides frozen fun for all ages.
This area is absolutely beautiful. We had a sunset cruise from the harbor, and you can see places like Watergate Complex and the Memorial Bridge. This was our first time visiting the area and found a place full of energy and life, especially at twilight and nighttime.

We docked in this area midday during a tour. There's a few restaurants and some shops around. Watergate building, Georgetown, and Catholic University are right down the street. We went on a weekday and during the day. There were hardly any people there. I'm assuming at night is when the vibe rolls in. You can have lunch at one of the restaurants offering outdoor water views and then stroll along the pier. Very peaceful during the day.

Review: Washington Harbour, Georgetown – Scenic, Social, and a Bit Chaotic on Weekends We recently spent a weekend evening strolling around Washington Harbour in Georgetown—a spot known for its waterfront restaurants, beautiful views, and buzzing energy. It was my first time seeing it at peak weekend hours, and while the place definitely has charm, there are a few things you should know before heading there, especially with family. ⸻ 🌆 The Good Vibes: Waterfront, Ducks & People-Watching Let’s start with the good—because there’s a lot of it. Washington Harbour is genuinely beautiful. The boardwalk wraps around the waterfront with clear views of the Potomac, boats drifting by, and a festive atmosphere that feels very “D.C.” There were people casually fishing off the edges of the boardwalk, which was fun to watch, and a bunch of ducks swimming near the fountain, totally unbothered by the human crowd. My toddler was fascinated watching them waddle around, and I’ll admit—they add a charming, peaceful touch to an otherwise lively scene. The restaurants and cafes were packed, and the outdoor seating areas were full of energy. There’s definitely a see-and-be-seen vibe here, and the people-watching is top-tier. It feels like one part date-night destination, one part tourist hotspot, and one part local hangout. So far, so good. ⸻ 😬 But… Some Not-So-Great Weekend Realities That said, weekends at Washington Harbour can get overwhelming, especially in the evening. Despite having such a scenic setting, the noise level cranks up once the party boats start cruising by. We saw (and heard) several boats blasting music, full of drunk partygoers, dancing and shouting. It didn’t feel unsafe, but it was definitely rowdy, and not at all ideal for kids. We also had an unfortunate surprise near one of the restaurant patios—a very large mouse darted out from behind a planter, likely drawn by all the food scraps around. With so many open-air restaurants and careless guests dropping fries and bits of food, it’s probably not shocking—but it definitely took away from the charm for a moment. There were also a few homeless individuals around the seating areas. Most were keeping to themselves, and it didn’t feel threatening, but if you’re expecting a polished, tightly controlled environment, just know it’s more urban and real-world than pristine. And don’t forget the mosquitoes. Once the sun started going down, they came out. Not swarming, but definitely there—especially near the water. If you’re sensitive, bring repellent. ⸻ 👨‍👩‍👧 Family Tips & Final Thoughts Washington Harbour is one of those places that shines depending on what you’re looking for. If you’re coming with kids or hoping for a quiet sunset by the water, I’d recommend visiting during the weekdays or early in the day on weekends. That way, you’ll get all the charm without the chaos. But if you’re in the mood for a lively, social atmosphere with great views, this spot delivers. The ducks, the fishing, the ambiance—it’s got a certain magic to it. You just have to be okay with a few trade-offs. ⸻ Rating: • Ambiance & Waterfront Views: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5) • Family-friendliness (weekend evenings): ⭐⭐☆ (2.5/5) • Cleanliness & Safety: ⭐⭐☆ (2.5/5) – points off for the mouse and rowdiness • Overall Experience: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5) – vibrant and scenic, but not without its quirks Come for the views, stay for the vibes—but maybe skip the weekend evening rush if you’re looking for peace and quiet.

The Exorcist Steps, located in Georgetown, are a narrow and steep set of stairs that gained notoriety for their appearance in the 1973 horror film 'The Exorcist.' These 75 steps were featured in a scene where Father Karras tragically fell to his death. Despite looking different from the movie, they still evoke a chilling atmosphere, especially at twilight. Built in 1895, these steps connect Prospect and 36th Streets with M Street, NW.
Took a walking side trip to the Exorcist House and Stairs on an evening visiting Georgetown. Great to see the outside of the house and the stairs used for the climactic scene when the demon was taken away from Reagan. Being there in the evening added to the excitement and caused a few goosebumps. We had a good time visiting and experiencing the stairs. Few pics taken too. Yeah, I couldn’t help myself at the bottom of the steps. The devil made me do it 😈😁 The steps and house are easy to find on your own. If out and about in Georgetown, give yourself a little extra time and go see the Hitchcock/Exorcist Stairs.
R F — Google review
Steps were cool to see. Easy place to visit and it's free. Took pics from the bottom and the top. Great exercise if you want to climb up and down a few times. We were here late afternoon. Pics would be better at night.
Russell J — Google review
A must-visit for film buffs and curious passersby alike, the Exorcist Steps are an atmospheric slice of movie history tucked into the Georgetown neighborhood. Immortalized in William Friedkin’s 1973 horror classic The Exorcist, these steep, narrow stone stairs were the site of Father Karras’s dramatic final scene. Standing here, it’s easy to see why this location became so iconic — the looming brick buildings, ivy-clad stone walls, and secluded feel create an eerie cinematic energy even in daylight. We visited on a Saturday evening, and the area was quiet, with just a few other visitors stopping for photos. The bronze plaque at the top tells the story behind the stairs and their role in the film. The steps themselves are long and steep (75 in total), so wear comfortable shoes if you plan to climb. The surrounding streets are charming, with views of brick townhouses and leafy trees framing the Potomac nearby. It’s located at the corner of 36th Street NW and Prospect Street NW in Georgetown. You can approach from the top (Prospect Street) or the bottom (near the gas station on M Street). Once you climb the stairs, you can see the Exorcist house right next to the steps. Even if you’ve never seen The Exorcist, the location is a fascinating, photogenic spot with a rich cinematic legacy. For fans of the film, it’s a spine-tingling pilgrimage. We are glad we visited here during our trip to Washington, D.C.!
Akshat K — Google review
Very fun to see this massive set of steps, just remember they are steep, so walking up them can be challenging. If you are disabled I recommend starting from the street above to look down, then make your way around to the bottom street to view the plaque at the bottom of the steps. Be aware that some streets nearby are similar to cobblestone, which may not be a great shortcut if you have different mobility needs. Can you believe they put rubber on the steps and the stunt actor fell down them TWICE for a good shot. Fun to imagine falling down them while at the top, I wouldn't do it even if there was rubber. Hope you enjoy your visit and you're able to take some good pics. We promise the area isn't spooky or haunted like in the movie, so we hope you'll visit. If you're at the top of the stairs, walk a bit further down the road and you'll see some cool Transformers statues and a cute little water spout that has a bird on it.
S. R — Google review
If you like visiting icon movie locations then you have to go here. Its just some stone steps but made iconic as used in the excorist. Not to busy while we were there. There is a small plaque at the foot of the steps.
Terence R — Google review
These are no ordinary steps—they’re the most haunted, cinematic, ankle-testing stairs you’ll ever climb. Great for horror movie buffs, history nerds, and people who enjoy saying “these steps were in a movie” at least 7 times.
Saja M — Google review
A Quick Chill in Georgetown The Exorcist Steps are a must-see for any true horror movie fan visiting Georgetown, D.C. Standing at the top, looking down the steep, narrow flight of approximately 75-97 steps that Father Karras plunged down, you instantly feel a chill. The steps themselves are ordinary concrete and stone, but their cinematic history injects them with a palpable, unsettling aura. Located at the corner of Prospect St NW and 36th St NW, the area feels like classic, historic Georgetown. The nearby "Exorcist House" adds to the experience, though a plaque at the bottom is the only official marker. It's cool to think of the filming history, including the rubber padding used for the famous movie. They are just a steep flight of stairs connecting Prospect St down to M St, so the "attraction" is very brief. It's perfect for a quick photo op and a dose of movie nostalgia, but it's not a place to linger. Personal Take: If you love The Exorcist, this is a pilgrimage you have to make. It's a surreal experience seeing an iconic moment of cinema—usually shrouded in darkness and terror—in the bright light of a quaint D.C. neighborhood. Just try not to trip on the way down!
Francesco M — Google review
If you're in the Georgetown area and a fan of the Exorcist movie, this is a must walk, flight of stairs to go up. At the top of to the left was the house in the film as well. It's not a long experience, but the walk-up is a cool one at that. Oh, and you get a little exercise as well, those steps are steep!

Rosslyn's proximity to downtown D.C.
In Rosslyn, there’s an elevator that is accessible from the street and underground. Follow the wheel chair signs if you’re underground. I love that they have updated the metro cars, at least the one I was in today. It’s nice to have this metro stop in Rosslyn. If you’re going from Ashburn to Rosslyn, you stay on the same Silver Line and don’t have to change trains. It took about an hour to get from Rosslyn to Ashburn on the metro.

I've been to many subway/metro system throughout the US and Europe and the DC Metro is by far the best. Well laid out, plenty of signage, no smell, well lit and on the trains that come through Rosslyn there are three different ways to tell where the train is going and which station is coming up (four if you look out the window). When I was there I always got a seat. They don't have pay by credit card at the turnstiles yet by I understand that is on the way. There are info booths that actually have people inside them. There is little vandalism and the trains run frequently. Rosslyn is one of the deepest stations in the network in order to get under the Potomac. That results in one of the longest escalators you will ever see. The only reason I didn't rate it 5 is because that is reserved for metros in Asia.
Mark P — Google review
It's a good Metro station in terms of location and having lots of bus options in addition to blue orange and silver (and a very long escalator) but it's also a bummer that they don't have a public restroom for customers despite the massive overhaul a year ago.
Jon F — Google review
The escalator into the station is quite long but once you get downstairs, the station is very simply designed: trains into DC on the top platform and out of DC on the bottom.

Nice, peaceful and wide space to enjoy water views, dine, sit on the grass and go Latin dancing outdoors for free (Saturday and Tuesday nights from mid spring to mid Fall). Beautiful sunsets with a view of Key Bridge, Roosevelt Island and Kennedy Center. There's also a kayak rental nearby. Also a good starting point to go biking on the Capital Crescent and C&O Canal trails. Has a fountain where kids can play and get wet. Can take the water taxi to other waterfronts in DC, Maryland and Virginia. The main issue I discovered is that there are no public drinking water fountains and toilets in this this park, so you have go into one of the establishments in the area to get those needs met. Also not Metro accessible and parking can be difficult, but that's all of Georgetown.

Hiking Trails
The Woodrow Wilson Memorial Bridge is a 4.5-mile paved trail that offers a moderate difficulty level, suitable for biking, walking, and even cross-country skiing in winter. The bridge connects Alexandria, Virginia and Oxon Hill, Maryland over the Potomac River. It was built in 1961 and named after the 28th President of the United States. Along the trail, there are viewing scopes to observe the scenic Potomac River.
What a beautiful scenic ride driving over the Woodrow Wilson Memorial bridge. The bridge seems to be newly renovated no dangerous, cracks or chipped paint. Just a really clean sturdy bridge with a beautiful scenic background to landscape your drive from Virginia to Maryland. Not to mention the traffic flows seamlessly from state to state with five open lanes in each direction. In weekends my fiancé and I like to travel across the Woodrow Wilson memorial bridge to do our shopping and to grab lunch. I’m an outdoorsy type of person so it’s the little things that I enjoy like riding across beautiful bridges and watching nature along the way.. I really wish I was camera ready because there is an awesome silver coin statue of Woodrow Wilson on the Virginia side that is a must see!
Philly K — Google review
First time on the bridge and it was a great workout! I thought it would be scary because it’s so close to the highway but it was great! Nice level of elevation clear walkway. If you want fresh air and to skip the gym this was great went the whole way. I walked it took 1 hour to from the ranger outlets to the end in Virginia it’s about 3 miles long!
Casmonae S — Google review
This is a really lovely bridge to get your exercise on while soaking in the beautiful scenery. Be it for biking, walking and running. It’s a 6 mile walk to and fro from Virginia to the Maryland side and vice versa. I really enjoyed riding on the bridge renting the capital bikeshare bicycle with a friend. It was so much fun! I highly recommend to all tourists and locals as well.
K A — Google review
It’s absolutely surreal at the top of the bridge! The Revolutionary War infographics along the way are a quick but meaningful read, especially with America250 approaching. Overall, this bike ride is STUNNINGLY beautiful—you’ll see it all: the ferry, drawbridge, planes, helicopters, and boats crossing the Potomac. I highly recommend this path!
Diana S — Google review
I love this hike. It was an easy walk with barely any incline. The fews are lovely.
Miss R — Google review
Such a wonderful idea to take that walk finally… The views are beautiful, the trail is trailing lol.
Fee T — Google review
I enjoyed my walk, it was my first time so I got a little over 4 miles in. A lot of beautiful nature views along my long enjoyable stroll.
Khalila G — Google review
If you’re looking to get some walking done for exercise. This is definitely it! Free and dedicated parking at the outlets as well.

PAUL is a renowned European bakery with over 500 locations worldwide, including seven near Washington, D.C. The 130-year-old patisserie upholds a tradition of excellence spanning five generations and offers an array of delectable pastries like raisin Danishes and chocolate almond croissants. Additionally, they serve savory options such as Paris ham, egg & cheese baguettes. Despite being a major chain, each outlet exudes an artful and upscale ambiance.
Updated September 2024: Went back to this location again today and the staff was awesome. But they are understaffed by a lot so be patient. The cashier is literally cooking and bagging food while running it to tables and the manager was the barista and trying to cover the cashier role when the actual cashier is doing food prep. Be patient, the food is good and worth it and the staff are doing their best. Original: One of the best places to grab a quick breakfast if you want quiet in the morning or a fast lunch during the day. And yes this is the same Paul bakery you’ll find in Paris. My favorite was the blueberry tart but they stopped making it a few years back, but I still love the prosciutto sandwiches. This morning I had a sausage, egg and cheese croissant and my friend had the ham and cheese one. We finished with pistachio and raspberry macaroons. It’s a great place for a quick bite to eat, and quiet first thing in the morning.
Adam R — Google review
I was very excited for breakfast time, but I was not impressed. Service was not friendly and she did not even smile or try to interact with us while ordering. The food was ok. I did not try the tarts since they were not out yet in display and it was already 8:30am and I had to catch a flight. The coffee and Hot chocolate was good. We had the Ham and cheese croissant and the chocolate croissant those were ok. Apple almond pie was good
Eli R — Google review
I want to hope other things at this place would be better than what we ordered. However, reviewing off of our experience.... Awful. Service was not rude, just unfriendly. The wait was what you'd expect for this type of spot and not awful. We came for breakfast and I ordered the eggs Benedict with smoked salmon... The MAYBE 2oz of salmon (probably less) was fishy tasting and low quality. And I have never seen such poorly made poached eggs. Raw whites. Stringy. Bland. One side had only the yoke almost and the other had double the egg whites. The "side salad" was pretty skimpy as well. No baguette on the side which is somewhat misleading based on the menu. My husband's croissant sandwich was just bland but not bad like mine. Also. The pricing was crazy high considering what was served.
Arianna T — Google review
Came based off of reviews. The quiche Lorraine was great! Super fluffy. Wasn’t crazy about my partners ham and Swiss. The ratio was off. The hot chocolate was normal but a bit sweet towards the end. The croissant and chocolate croissant were fluffy and good. Eclair was delicious my partners tea was okay. The strawberry shortcake was dry. Not worth the amount of money.
Emma R — Google review
I absolutely love this bakery!lEverything is delicious, fresh yummy and is a beautiful place. What makes it even better is the friendly service. The team is always so kind with a big smile in their face, so helpful with recommendations and makes you feel at home. The atmosphere is cozy, whether you’re grabbing something to go or sitting down for a quiet moment. Thank you
Lienly L — Google review
Monday mid-morning, staff were wonderful. Great food, just what I wanted! Be patient if visiting during a busy time, worth the wait. I had Croque Misseur & small salad, almond & chocolate croissant. My sister had sausage, egg & cheese croissant & petit hazelnut doughnut & macchiato. Pleasant cafe seating. GREAT LAVAZZA COFFEE. Do it!!
Casey D — Google review
Located in a great area atmosphere is nice lots of chairs to sit and have a cup of coffee. Food options are good I tried the vegan avocado croissants sandwich which was good but it was missing the cucumber and the spinach. Almond croissant was amazing. Would come again.
Mike V — Google review
The restaurant has a decent atmosphere, but the food quality was disappointing. The bakery items didn’t look fresh, and there were flies sitting on them. I was served a cold quiche, and when I told them about it,they reheated the same one — it came back burnt, and the cheese turned chewy. but overall, the food and hygiene need serious improvement.

Nestled along the banks of the Potomac River, Lady Bird Johnson Park is a serene gem located on Columbia Island, part of the George Washington Memorial Parkway. This enchanting park pays tribute to former First Lady Lady Bird Johnson, who dedicated her life to enhancing America's landscapes and preserving its natural beauty. Established in 1968, it features picturesque trails shaded by trees, making it an ideal spot for leisurely walks or invigorating runs while soaking in stunning views of Washington D.C.
This Park is a quiet gem that feels worlds away from the bustle of downtown D.C. Whether you’re walking, biking, or just looking for a peaceful spot to sit and take in the views, this park has a beautiful blend of nature and cityscape.
Gabby Z — Google review
Lady Bird Park is a great place to watch the 4th of July fireworks with your family. Lots of open spaces and green areas to sit. I would recommend bringing chairs or a blanket for this event. But that's the reason we were here visiting. Beautiful views of the Potomac and the Washington monument and Lincoln Memorial!
Cindy S — Google review

We’ve come to this park several times over the past few years to watch fireworks on July 4th, and it’s always been a great location. We normally park at the Pentagon North Parking lot, and walk over. Leaving can take a while, but it’s definitely easier than trying to navigate downtown DC.

Boulder Bridge is a Neoclassical bridge with a central drawbridge, built in 1932 and adorned with statues depicting valor and sacrifice. It's a popular spot during fall for its beautiful foliage. The road leading to the bridge may be closed on weekends, so it's advisable to plan accordingly. The area is serene and features a small river flowing through it.
Boulder Bridge is a cool old stone bridge tucked away in Rock Creek Park. It has this rustic charm that makes it feel like you’ve stepped into a little piece of history. Definitely take some time to wander through the forest trails around it, then cross the bridge—it’s a peaceful spot that gives you a nice break from the city buzz without going too far.
Angel H — Google review
Liked this place - visit during fall if 23. The fall colours are good but not the best I would say. Check the pics Note - the ocean drive road leading to boulder bridge is closed typically on weekends and peak days. So park or call the Uber oh ridge road Just all others in Rock creek park, it’s very cool and serene place. Has a very small river flowing through.

Overall, good bridge. Sturdy. Bridge-like. Not enough rocks in creek. Hiked in on the trail, didn't realize the bridge had a road on it. Too much water under the bridge. Wanted to rate this 4.6, but only 4 or 5 option available.

The Capital Crescent Trail, completed in 1996, spans 7 miles along a former railroad and is a popular route for both recreation and commuting. It connects Silver Spring, Maryland, to historic Georgetown in D.C., offering scenic views of waterways, wildlife, parkland, and cultural sites. The trail's crescent-shaped route provides an enjoyable experience for bikers and runners alike.
I went for a hike but my body asked for a jog. Place is beautiful, lots of runners and cyclists. Feels like a nature oasis right in the city. Beware of humidity if you’re not used to it.
Ximena G — Google review
I rode the trail from Georgetown to Chevy Chase and back, though the trail itself goes 5 miles further up if you want to go all the way. A good one if you, like me, haven't biked in a while but feel fit enough for a moderate challenge. Except the stretches that go through a little bit of the town, the trail has a beautiful dense canopy which is great on sunny days. You'll be riding either fairly close to the Potomac or through parks. I didn't stop a lot to get good sightings but did hear quite a lot of birds in some spots. There are no provisions for a few miles in between so do carry water, and snacks if you need some. You can get good coffee and bagels once you reach Chevy Chase. It is a free trail, no fees necessary.
Sagar V — Google review
Beautiful paved trail with a good mix of sunlight and shade. The path overall is flat/even (excepting the River Road bridge), but it's technically very slightly uphill in some areas heading north. There are usually at least a few other people within sight on the trail, so it feels very safe. An excellent way to get between Georgetown and downtown Bethesda on foot or bicycle. Other points of interest along the way include: the Bethesda Outdoor Pool, Washington Episcopal School, Little Falls Library, Little Falls Stream Valley Park, Fletcher's Cove, and Georgetown Waterfront. Capitol Bikeshare locations in: downtown Bethesda, River Road, Palisades (a few blocks from trail), and Georgetown.
