Good Food but Slow Service at Surguru Restaurant.. My dining experience at Surguru Restaurant in Puducherry is of mixed feelings. On one hand, the food was truly delicious and well-prepared. The flavors were delightful, and the presentation was impressive. Each dish we tried was a treat for the taste buds. However, the service left much to be desired. Despite the great food, the slow service dampened our overall experience. We had to wait quite a while for our orders to be taken and then for the food to arrive. It was evident that the staff were overwhelmed and could benefit from better management or additional help. Overall, if you have the patience to endure the wait, the food at Surguru Restaurant is worth trying. I hope they address the service issues to make the dining experience even better.

Great lunch for vegetarian. An old house reformed into a restaurant. Luckily I got the table once I entered and normally it looks like there will be a 10-15 mins waiting time during weekends. Food is delicious and price is above average. I enjoyed the lunch and if you are nearby white town and want to try South Indian veg restaurant you can visit this place

The food was okay. Since it is pure veg restaurant we can go for it. The ambience is good. Can visit for one meal. Quantity was fine even the price was comparatively low than Bangalore.

Good Food. We had breakfast here. Tomato Thokku which they gave for Idly & Dosa is best in the town. Overall a good try. One negative thing is the location - There is a shop in front selling chicken pork mutton and all. You have to cross that shop to enter into Surguru Restaurant.

Very slow service and comparatively very expensive. The cashew pakoda was cold and hardly had any cashews in it. We ordered a pomegranate juice for 140rs (which is normal) but the quantity was very less (pic attached). I wouldn’t recommend if you want to have a quick, tasty and worthy meal.

The food in this place is delicious, I tried several items and all were excellent. The service and staff is very good and efficient with mobile devices to record your order. The alleyway leading to the restaurant is very nice too, I can see why other people have included pictures in their reviews. The room itself is soulless, bland colours on the walls, no atmosphere. It felt a bit sad and beige. Some colours would be great. The tables are arranged like in a school (or prison) canteen. But the food is well worth it.

I had dinner at Rendezvous Café during my Pondicherry trip, and it was a lovely experience. The ambiance was open, breezy, and perfect for a relaxed evening. I ordered prawns, mashed potatoes, French fries, and fried rice—everything was flavorful and well-prepared. I also had some shots, which added to the fun, easygoing vibe. Great Ambience in a beautiful building with a top notch view of the beach was the best lunch I’ve ever had in Pondicherry. The staff was very sweet and he conversed with such passion about his work. The food here was amazing and the Chicken Ala Carte was my favourite !! ( recommended!!)

A classic rooftop restaurant, pasta spaghetti were nice . Of course prices were of Bangalore levels. But for a tourist place probably justified .. dishes one have to serve themselves.. beware lift wasn't functional.

Small cute cafe in the middle of Suffren street white town. We wanted some good English breakfast on Sunday morning and we reached here. The menu was looking attractive , we had one english breakfast and one american breakfast. My English breakfast had a half baked potato and bacon strips were bad. The hash brown 🤧 my god again half cooked and idk what it was made of actually we were wondering if it was cabbage or potato for a second. Taste was okayish not too bad i would say. We had also asked for a Mushroom sandwich which was good 💯 The Ambience was good overall but I am not really sure if i would recommend this place for a good English breakfast sorry 😅

Located near the Promenade and the main beach, in a parallel avenue, this is a hidden gem. This place was recommended to me by many, and I in turn will recommend this place to others for authentic French food. The ambience is nice, there's not much footfall, and the food takes time to arrive, but those are positives, as each dish is masterfully crafted. The waiting staff are courteous and helpful, especially Mr. Prosper.

We checked Google reviews and decided to start our Pondicherry vacation from this place and we are so happy we did. The food was a 10/10 and so was the service. I didn't catch the name of the girl who suggested our meals but she was very helpful and even clicked us some banger pictures at the end. Loved the food and drinks and the service.

It is located in a quiet and picturesque street very close to Promenade beach. The ambience is really amazing with rustic decor and furniture, and renaissance-style paintings. The food is out of this world!! If you like continental food, then this is a must visit place, as they serve mostly European cuisine. They specialise in French cuisine, which we found to be quite authentic and very delicious!! The presentation of the dishes was also top notch.. Kudos to their chef Shanmugam!! Most definitely the No.1 French restaurant in Pondicherry!!

Delicious food. Right near our hotel, and specialises in French and Continental menu. Out of all places in Pondicherry, this has the most reasonable cost and delicious food as well. The Hungarian Stew was what we tried - creamy, delicious but the quantity was less for the price we paid. Beautifully presented. We came back and tried Ratatouille for the first time. It was well made and it was nice to know how it tastes after having seen it in the movies only. Interiors have a lovely charm of old world era. Mr. Prosper suggested us some amazing French cuisine and he had an in-depth knowledge of the cuisine and it was good to chat with him.

The sourdough pizza was another highlight; the crust was perfectly baked, and the toppings were fresh and flavorful. And of course, we couldn’t leave without trying their coffee, which was rich, well-balanced, and a perfect complement to the meal. The cafe is located on roofed on the first floor, light music and the cool breeze made up for a great ambiance. This is Cozy Spot for who loves Continental Food. We ordered below dishes; MOROCCAN CHICKEN TARTINE - Bread with chicken and veggies along with their special sauce. CROISSANT - Croissants were baked to perfection, with the perfect crunch outside and tenderness inside. CAPPUCCINO - It was a perfect cappuccino. SPANISH LATTE - All the items were delicious. What really makes the experience stand out is the staff - welcoming staff with attentive polite nature. I recommend this place for those who are looking for relaxing dining experience with great and calm company.

They have two branches — one in Auroville and one in White Town, Pondicherry. The White Town one has a better vibe, bigger space, and feels like a proper café. Since it’s a tourist spot, you might have to wait around 30 minutes or more, but the service is good and everything’s freshly made. I tried their Tropical Smoothie Bowl — totally worth the hype, super yummy! My friend loved her order too. Overall, a really nice experience.

That said, the food remains excellent in taste , consistently flavorful and fresh. However, the portion sizes feel on the smaller side compared to the price, which could be improved. Service is commendable; even during a busy weekend visit, we didn’t have to wait long for our order, and the staff managed the crowd efficiently. This is a stylish place for a western style breakfast. We enjoyed ours here. The meals were well presented and tasty. The coffee was excellent too. The only downside is their failure to coordinate the arrival of meals at the table. Two times in a row my meal came after my three companions had finished their meals!

This lowkey is a chill place to hangout and grab a couple of beers by the ocean. Even though its not fancy , the location is the highlight , just besides the beach. A fan favorite of the locals in pondy.

If you like quite you will like this place. I have been here 2 days in a row. It's a local bar in an old worn out building. Nothing fancy here but the place has its one vibe. Quite and chill balcony view of rock beach. Best for long conversation with friends and family, with good bar snacks and reasonable liquor prices.

The food was amazing, we ordered prawns and they were fresh🦞🦐 You can just walk through the property and you are right there at the beach. We had a wonderful experience at Theevu Plage! From the moment we arrived, the manager Shiva stood out for being well-informed, courteous and incredibly friendly. He helped us prioritize our itinerary, arranged transportation, negotiated rates on our behalf and checked in daily to ensure we were comfortable. The entire staff was warm and welcoming. The food was an absolute highlight. Every dish we tried was delicious and fresh. The view from our room was just as shown in the pictures, stunning and serene. We especially enjoyed sitting by the window, watching the fishermen head out to sea. It’s also a perfect spot to catch the sunrise or take a refreshing dip in the sea. This lodge offers a perfect blend of hospitality, flavor, and natural beauty. I would definitely recommend it to family and friends!

This is the only recommended seafood place on Serenity Beach and it truly lives up to the name. - They serve only the catch of the day – nothing frozen – and everything tasted super fresh. We ordered Pepper Crabs, Mackerel, and Fish Fillet, all perfectly cooked and full of flavor. -The chefs know their craft, and I also recommend trying the fries, tea, and coffee. The owner, Shiva, is very pleasing and welcoming. Overall, a must-visit for authentic fresh seafood by the beach.

We decided to visit this place after seeing the good reviews and high ratings, excited to try their seafood. Unfortunately, our experience didn’t quite live up to the hype. We started with the crab lollipop, which tasted quite synthetic — a big chunk of deep-fried meat that didn’t really resemble crab in flavor or texture. Not sure if that’s how it’s meant to be, but it wasn’t enjoyable. Next, we tried the fried rice, which turned out to be more of a spicy masala rice — not the simple, flavorful fried rice we expected. The restaurant itself is quite small, and though it’s located near the water, there’s no real view since it’s on the ground level — just a line of boats docked in front. Overall, it was a bit of a letdown considering the reviews, and I probably wouldn’t go back.

We were a group of 12 people and asked them to join tables so we could all sit together. They didn't do that too. Inspite of the restaurant being empty. Would never go again.

The stay at Theevu Plage was a wonderful experience. The property is right in front of the beach.The incharge Mr Siva and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were very clean. We stayed on the 2nd floor room which was Sea facing. The rooms are as they look in the pictures. Every food that we ordered was prepared fresh and tasted excellent- from the simple dal tadka to sea food pasta.Do try the foods made using Auroville produce. Do stay and enjoy the food here. Even if you aren't staying here, do visit the restaurant you will not be disappointed.

One of the worst food experiences I've ever had. As a Telugu person, I strongly advise others from our community not to visit this place. The behavior of the staff is extremely rude, and the food they serve is absolutely substandard—nowhere close to the quality they claim. What’s worse? The prices are as high as those in a star hotel or an authentic restaurant like Paradise, but the experience is nowhere near. If you come here, be ready to lose your temper. Completely disappointing and not worth a single rupee.

There is cooking area in 3rd floor, opposite to wash room, that cooking area looks black everywhere and smells very bad. Dining area is in first and second floors. I had the impression that I was in a Mexican town from the décor, music, and atmosphere. I placed orders for Mexican Churros, Pink Guava Margarita, Chicken Nachos, and Chicken Enchiladas. Overall, I had a great experience. The waiter recommended what I should get, and the combination was excellent. The food was of decent quality, although there were a few instances where I thought it could have been better. If you enjoy eating, you should visit this restaurant. With friends, it will be more enjoyable than dining at a regular restaurant.

Restaurant is very well decorated and atmosphere is really good, service is also quick. We ordered few things along with drinks, would really recommend drinks here. Now coming to food, Would say quite an good effort to create Mexican taste and presentation to make it like Mexican dishes. Thing which we didn’t liked it was use of packaged stuff, all sauces, salsa etc were not freshly made, which was something we were not expecting.

I really liked the way, they present. I loved all those items which I ate, the mango margarita(for sugartooth) , pink guava margarita(a mix of sweet and sour), the Mexican wings, kitchen sink burrito (their signature), lamb taco Mexicana, chicken fajitas. And boy oh boy, that lamb taco was so good that I ordered one more of that. I loved their service too, and I regret that how did I miss this restaurant despite being in Pondicherry.

Loved the mexican spicy flavor and ambiance. Serving took a little longer than i would be happy about. Meals are worth sharing and trying different ones. Soft drinks are good toom but i suggest ordering after you get the food. Else drinks will be served at the start and you might want not be able to arrest the spicy flavour after.

De BlueFin Seafood is located on a busy street and is an excellent seafood restaurant. They serve fresh catch directly from local boat vendors, and every dish is packed with flavor. We tried the lobster, crab, fish, and prawns everything tasted absolutely delicious. If you're a seafood lover visiting Pondicherry, don’t miss this place! Please note: parking is only available on the street, and liquor is not served here. However, there’s a liquor shop nearby. Staff service is very good.

Horrible Experience – Families with Babies, Please Stay Away! I’m still fuming after what happened at this restaurant tonight. We went there around 9:30 PM after spending the evening at Rock Beach with our 1-year-old baby. We were tired and hungry, so we just wanted to sit down, relax, and have a nice dinner. Our baby was sitting on the table, happily playing while we waited for our food (which, by the way, took quite some time to arrive). When the food finally came, she started eating — just a baby being a baby, playing with her spoon and trying to feed herself. Suddenly, the waiter came over and told us to keep her quiet! I was honestly shocked. How can anyone expect a 1-year-old to sit silently like a robot? She wasn’t crying, shouting, or disturbing anyone — just being her cheerful little self. The restaurant was nearly empty, with only two other people there. Still, they made us feel like we’d done something wrong just for letting our child exist. We were so uncomfortable that we asked them to pack everything and left. It completely ruined our evening. We’ve been on a 5-day trip from Kerala and have eaten at several well-known restaurants — never faced anything like this before. It’s heartbreaking and infuriating to see such zero tolerance and no empathy towards families with babies. Do they even understand what parenthood is? Or how a child behaves? If you’re a parent, especially with a baby or toddler, please don’t bother coming here. They clearly don’t know how to treat customers with basic respect. 👎

Best place to have Lobster in Pondicherry. All sea foods are available. Good in quality and taste. Only problem is no parking facility available.

Extremely Disappointed and Frustrated Experience – Never Visit If You Have a Baby! We visited this restaurant around 9:30 PM after spending some time at Rock Beach, along with our 1-year-old baby. We were tired, hungry, and just wanted to have a peaceful dinner. Unfortunately, this turned out to be one of the worst dining experiences ever. Our baby was simply sitting on the table, playing quietly while we waited (since the food was already delayed). Once the food finally arrived, our little one started eating on her own — holding a spoon and enjoying herself. Suddenly, the waiter jumped in and rudely told us to “keep the baby quiet”. Excuse me?! How on earth are we supposed to make a 1-year-old “stay quiet” while eating or playing? She wasn’t crying, screaming, or disturbing anyone. The restaurant was nearly empty — just two other people were dining there. Still, we were treated like we’d done something wrong just for having a baby! We were so shocked and frustrated that we had to ask them to pack up our food and leave. What a horrible attitude! We’ve traveled all the way from Kerala and dined at several reputed restaurants during our trip — but never, ever have we been treated this badly. If this is how they treat families with babies, I honestly don’t know what kind of empathy or manners these people have. Do they expect babies to stay silent like statues? Or do they tape their own kids’ mouths shut at home?! Absolutely not recommended for families, especially if you have a baby or small child. They clearly have no respect, no understanding, and no hospitality. Avoid this place at all costs if you want a pleasant dining experience. 👎

We have been to Sadguru for breakfast along with family. We ordered Dosa varieties and Pongal. The food was tasty but average. Service was good. There was ample parking space. Wash Room area was well maintained. Pls do visit and share your feedback

This restaurant is among the decent ones one can find on this stretch, if looking for vegetarian food with some basic hygiene and for a family. We were 3, and seated immediately. Once order taken, food was served in 10 min flat. Food was very tasty and fresh/hot. The portion sizes of the curry/sabzis could be a little more, but nothing to complain. Quick in & out, fuss free and worry free (quality of food)

If you are looking for authentic local tamil cuisine would highly recommend this place. Went here twice (breakfast & dinner) and it was crowded both the times. Everything we ordered were delicious. Kothu Parota, poori & dosa are must try.

Extremely disappointing experience. The manager, Mr. Prakash, was completely uncooperative and unwilling to understand the issue. We had ordered Reshmi Paneer Tikka from the main course sabji section, but were served it as a starter. When we questioned how a starter could be listed under the main course heading, he kept denying it instead of acknowledging the confusion. Things only got worse: • Salad was served midway through the meal, instead of at the beginning. • When we ordered the main course, no plates or cutlery were provided. The sabji sat on the table for over 5 minutes while we repeatedly requested basic items like plates and spoons. • Only after asking multiple times did we receive spoons, that too without plates. Overall, the service was completely unprofessional, disorganized, and far from what one would expect from a decent restaurant. Definitely not recommended.

Service staff are very good. Expensive, food tastes good, not great. Plenty of parking and a nice place for families or large group to enjoy an all vegetarian menu.

One of the best seafood restaurants in Pondicherry. There's an option to select your fresh catch and request the recipe from their menu. FISH POLLICHATHU, MANGO CURRY AND ALFAHAM are some of the dishes, not to miss here. Avoid Sunday lunch unless you arrive by 12:30; gets very crowded. Basic ambience, a few very good waiters, car parking available.

During our visit we were the first customer for the day. We enjoyed Steam rice with kerala Mango fish curry, crab starter and prawn starer. All the foods are cooked in coconut oil and coconut milk. Loved their kerala parotta. Very soft and tasted so good.

The mango and chicken curry was absolutely delicious! And the Kerala paratha was really soft. Loved it all. But it was too cold and the food got cold quickly. Still- highly recommend.

I recently visited Samak Restaurant in Pondicherry and was thoroughly impressed! The fresh pomfret fish prepared in authentic Kerala style—both thava-fried and in coconut milk gravy—was absolutely excellent. The flavors were rich, traditional, and truly satisfying. I also tried their porota and chilli chicken, and both were cooked to perfection. Every dish was spot-on, and the overall dining experience was fantastic. A must-visit for anyone looking for authentic Kerala cuisine in Pondicherry!

When we hear about Pondicherry, all we go for French cafes, but this restaurant stands apart. After my 3 day stay, I wanted to eat local cuisine. After reading many positive reviews, we decided to go. After entering, the staff and the owner were very courteous. They advised me in detail about the fish and their best dish. Gave my 2 kids paper and colour pen for drawing. The food was super delicious. Enthusiastically we ordered many extra items, and obviously were not able to eat them. The owner was so kind, he removed the items from our bill and did not take any charges. We were very surprised by the gesture. Must try place.

This was my first trip to Pondicherry and I had lunch here on first day. We had mango fish curry which was amazing, it was unique, and also we had prawns coconut fry. Both tasted good

The service is excellent. Great customer care service. They also modified the dish as per the customer's request. North Indian dish was great. The ambience can use a lot of improvement because the place was smelling bad due to non veg cooking. The place needs more cleaning.
