Rock Beach, also known as Pondicherry Beach, Promenade Beach, and Mahatma Gandhi Beach, is a unique coastal stretch in Pondicherry. It features a seawall and a palm tree-lined promenade that makes it popular for watching the sunrise. The 1.5 km long coastline starts at the War Memorial and ends at Dupleix Park on Goubert Avenue.
The Rock Beach in Pondicherry is an absolute gem! 🌊✨ It’s not your typical sandy beach — the rocky shoreline gives it a unique charm, and the sound of the waves crashing against the rocks is both powerful and soothing. The entire Promenade stretch is beautifully maintained, perfect for early morning walks or peaceful evening strolls. Watching the sunrise here is simply mesmerizing, with golden hues reflecting over the sea while the city slowly wakes up. The vibe is calm, refreshing, and full of positive energy. There are plenty of cute cafés, ice-cream stalls, and local vendors around, making it a lively yet relaxed spot. The area is clean, safe, and offers some of the best views of the Bay of Bengal. 🌅 Whether you’re a traveler, a photographer, or just someone looking to unwind by the sea, Rock Beach is a must-visit in Pondicherry — serene, scenic, and unforgettable!
Soumava J — Google review
Rock Beach is a very nice place to visit in Pondicherry. The view of the sea is beautiful, and the sound of the waves is very calming. It’s a great spot for morning or evening walks. The area is clean and has many small food stalls and cafes nearby. You can’t swim here because of the rocks, but you can sit, relax, and enjoy the sea breeze. It gets a bit crowded, especially on weekends, but still feels peaceful. A lovely place to spend some quiet time. I gave 4 stars because of the crowd.
Ananth — Google review
Nothing negative about this place except the accessibility. Many a times Cars are not allowed to nearby area so may be an issue for elderly people. Very nice place where one can spend hours gazing at sea (Bay of Bengal). it is a must visit place whenever you visit Puducherry. Have been here 4-5 times. Walk along the beach is romantic for couples. There are many small small cafés which serve you till late night. Sunrise at 6 o clock attracts a lot of people. Gandhi statue in the middle of 800m beach walk path is also attractive.
Ranvir S — Google review
Rock Beach is one of the most beautiful spots in Pondicherry! 🌅 The view of the sunrise and sunset here is absolutely stunning. Walking along the rocks with the sound of waves hitting the shore is such a peaceful experience. The place is clean, lively, and perfect for photos or just relaxing by the sea. A must-visit when you’re in town!

Very cool place to spend time, fancy restaurants, Heritage buildings. Truly a visual treat. I would recommend to visit in the evenings to night. Alcohol and smoking is strictly prohibited 🚫, I saw police fining the law breakers. The place pedestrian friendly. Clean and beautiful
Mithun N — Google review
Complete 1.5km long rock beach covers the esplanade area except a stretch of about 100 meters of proper sand beach with great views on both sides. Good place to sit and relax, minus the shacks and drinks. And please don't smoke here, it's prohibited to smoke in public areas in whole of pondicherry. At dawn or dusk the beach provides good views and winds.
Sumit G — Google review
Beautiful place to relax and enjoy the sea breeze! 🌊 The view is excellent and very attractive, especially during sunrise and sunset. Peaceful atmosphere, clean walkway, and a perfect spot to unwind by the ocean.

A Scenic Escape with a Touch of French !! Puducherry Beach, or Rock Beach near French colony as the locals call it, is a refreshing break from the chaos of city life. Unlike many other Indian beaches, this one is surprisingly clean—probably because it’s more of a rocky coastline than a sandy stretch. Strolling along the promenade is a highlight, especially in the evening when the whole place comes alive with street performers, vendors, and families out for a walk.

Promenade Beach is a popular rocky shoreline in an urban area, featuring a promenade, war memorial, and nearby park. It spans 1,500 meters and is a major attraction for both locals and tourists. The beach is located near several notable landmarks including the Mahatma Gandhi statue, Monsieur Dupleix statue, New pier, War memorials, and the Puducherry port.
A perfect blend of beauty and peace. The Pondicherry beach is one of the most scenic spots in the city. Stretching along the Bay of Bengal, the walkway offers stunning views of the sea, especially during sunrise. I have been there many a times for the sunrise. The cool breeze, rhythmic sound of the waves, and clean surroundings make it the perfect place for quiet reflection. Whether you’re out for sightseeing, enjoying coffee by the sea, or simply sitting on the rocks soaking in the view, the beach has a charm that instantly puts you at ease. With landmarks like the Gandhi statue and French War Memorial nearby, it also offers a glimpse into Pondicherry’s rich heritage. P.S - first and last photo were taken some 8 years ago.

Promenade Beach, also known as Rock Beach, is one of the most famous attractions in Pondicherry, stretching for about 1.2 kilometers along the Bay of Bengal. It is a lively coastal spot where tourists and locals gather to enjoy the cool sea breeze, morning walks, and evening strolls. The beach is lined with several historic landmarks such as the French War Memorial, Mahatma Gandhi statue, and the Old Lighthouse, reflecting the town’s French colonial heritage. Vehicles are restricted in the promenade stretch during certain hours, making it peaceful and ideal for relaxation. Unlike sandy beaches, Promenade Beach is mostly rocky, offering a unique scenic charm with waves splashing against the stones. It is not suitable for swimming, but it’s a perfect place for photography, leisure, and experiencing the vibrant culture of Pondicherry. The beach is especially beautiful at sunrise and sunset, attracting visitors for its serene and picturesque views.

Srinibas P — Google review
Today visited this beach in the afternoon. We walked from Mothers ashram till Bakers street shop. Dark blue color waters welcomed me. With monsoon to set soon the beach looked calm and composed. Boats were doing trials on this beach. With rocks on both sides, enough space to walk, get down and touch the sea waters this beach is mesmerising. Afternoon with not much harsh sweaty sun, the whole beach looked glittering amidst blue sky and dark clouds. This is my first afternoon time visit to the beach. The promenade is indeed beautiful with coconut trees swaying in breeze. Lighthouse, crafty bazaar, Pondicherry museum, art museum and park are places around to visit. There is a lactation room spot in this beach. Travellers don’t miss visiting this beach when you travel to Pondicherry.

One of the most iconic spots in Pondicherry! Promenade Beach is perfect for a peaceful walk along the coast, especially during early mornings or evenings. The clean, well-paved walkway is lined with charming cafés, French colonial buildings, and historic landmarks like the Gandhi statue and old lighthouse. While swimming isn’t allowed, the sea breeze and coastal views make it a relaxing and scenic place to unwind. A must-visit for anyone exploring the city!
Devassia M — Google review
Promenade Beach is pure serenity with a touch of French charm. The waves are strong and thrilling, perfect for adventure. A visit to Le Café by the beach completes the experience with great food and sea breeze vibes. Don’t miss the majestic Mahatma Gandhi statue, crafted in 1965, and the Aux Combattants des Indes Françaises memorial, honoring French Indian soldiers — a true tribute to valor and sacrifice.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Promenade Beach, Pondicherry is hands down the best nightlife beach I’ve experienced. The long stretch is beautifully lit and always buzzing with energy at night. The cool sea breeze, the sound of waves, and the vibrant crowd make it a perfect spot to unwind after a long day. Street performers, local food stalls, and the lively atmosphere give it a unique charm. Whether you’re taking a peaceful walk, enjoying snacks with friends, or just sitting by the shore, the vibe here is unmatched. It feels safe, lively, and truly captures the spirit of Pondicherry after dark. A must-visit if you want to enjoy the best nightlife by the sea! 🌊✨

The Manakula Vinayagar Temple, located on Manakula Vinayagar Koil Street in White Town, is an ancient and highly revered Ganesha shrine, famous for its magnificent Dravidian architecture, a gold-laminated flag post, and numerous colorful depictions of Lord Ganesha on its inner walls. It is a spiritual landmark with a history predating the French rule and is a must-visit for its divine atmosphere and vibrant artistry.

Manakula Vinayaka Temple is one of the most beautiful and peaceful places I visited in Pondicherry. The temple has a very positive vibe and you can really feel the divine energy as soon as you enter. The architecture is amazing with colorful carvings and detailed artwork on the walls and ceiling. It’s clean and well-maintained, and the priests are polite and helpful. The place gets a bit crowded, especially during morning and evening aarti, but the overall atmosphere is calm and spiritual. I really enjoyed spending some quiet time here. Definitely a must-visit place if you are in Pondicherry. Location - WRPM+8F7, R. Manakkula Vinayagar St, White Town, Puducherry, 605001.

Visiting Arulmigu Manakula Vinayagar Devasthanam was one of the most memorable parts of my trip to Puducherry. This centuries-old temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha is not just a place of worship but also a living piece of heritage. The moment you enter White Town, the temple’s colorful gopuram and intricate sculptures draw you in. The craftsmanship on the walls and ceilings is breathtaking - every corner tells a story from Hindu mythology. Inside, the main sanctum radiates a serene and spiritual energy. The idol of Lord Ganesha is beautifully adorned, and the priests perform the poojas with devotion and discipline. Even though the temple often has a steady flow of devotees, everything is surprisingly well-managed, allowing you to have a peaceful darshan. The temple premises are very clean, with footwear arrangements, drinking water, and space for sitting and observing the rituals. The overall atmosphere is welcoming and inclusive, embracing visitors from all walks of life. The location is perfect for tourists - just a short walk from the beach and surrounded by colonial-era streets. After your visit, you can explore the vibrant local shops selling flowers, prasadam, and small souvenirs. Whether you are a devotee, a history enthusiast, or simply someone looking to experience Puducherry’s cultural blend, this temple offers peace, beauty, and a deep connection to tradition. I left with a sense of joy and calm that stayed with me long after I walked out. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Puducherry.

The Arulmigu Manakula Vinayagar Devasthanam is a historic Ganesha temple located in the heart of Puducherry, known for its rich history and colorful Dravidian architecture. The temple is over 500 years old and is a major pilgrimage site for devotees of Lord Ganesha. History and significance Origin of the name: The name "Manakula" is derived from the Tamil words manal (sand) and kulam (pond), a reference to the sandy pond that surrounded the temple in its early days. Legend of the idol: During the French colonial period in the 17th and 18th centuries, multiple attempts were made to remove the main Ganesha idol. According to legend, each time the idol was thrown into the sea, it miraculously reappeared in its original spot, convincing the colonizers of its divine power. Dravidian architecture: The temple is a beautiful example of traditional Dravidian architecture, featuring a vibrant gopuram (tower) adorned with detailed carvings and stucco figures of various Hindu deities and mythical creatures. Golden chariot: The temple is home to a golden chariot, which is used for ceremonial processions. This chariot was created with donations from devotees and is pulled through the streets during festivals like Vijayadasami.

Coffee shop
Located in Pondicherry, Le Café is a waterfront café with a rich history. Originally built as a Port Office in 1790, it later transformed into a charming café after the destruction of the pier due to a cyclone in 1952. Situated on Rock Beach, this government-operated café operates 24/7 and offers stunning views of the Bay of Bengal.
I visited Le Cafe on a quiet Sunday late afternoon when it was mostly empty, offering a peaceful dining atmosphere. The cafe boasts a spectacular view of the sea, allowing diners to enjoy their meals with the serene backdrop of the ocean right up close. I ordered the chicken sandwich, priced around 300, and a refreshing lime soda for 75. Both items were delightful—flavorful and satisfying. The combination of good food and the tranquil seaside view made for an enjoyable experience. Le Cafe is a great spot for those seeking tasty food in a calm setting with stunning sea views.

Le Café in White Town, Puducherry, is a charming spot that feels like a paradise for anyone who loves to sip coffee by the sea. With the refreshing sea breeze, warm sunlight, and the aroma of freshly brewed coffee filling the air, the ambiance is simply magical. Watching the sunrise with a cup of coffee here is an unforgettable experience. The food and beverages served are of excellent quality. From coffee, pasta, and pastries to delicious sandwiches, everything is prepared to delight the taste buds. The menu beautifully blends local flavors with international standards, making it unique. Adding to this, the friendly staff and their warm hospitality make the visit even more pleasant. What makes Le Café truly special is its natural setting and serene atmosphere. Sitting by the beach, listening to the sound of the waves while enjoying a cup of coffee, offers a rare sense of peace. For both travelers and locals, this café creates memories that are bound to last a lifetime. K.vinothkumar

Visited this cafe in the evening for some good coffee and snacks. The coffee was too good here which was filled pro the brim of the cup. The chicken sandwich too amazing with the sea view but sadly we visited after the sunset and hence could enjoy the sound of waves along the food. The Cold Coffee too was amazing. The apple cart tasted fine. This restaurant is open 24/7 serving food right beside the Gandhi Statue. You can always stroll through the beach. It’s self service here.

Le Café in Pondicherry offers a lovely location right by the beach, perfect for enjoying the sea breeze with a cup of coffee. The view is unbeatable, and it’s a great spot to relax. However, the service could be a bit more attentive, and the food was a little underwhelming for the price. It’s still a nice place to visit, especially for the vibe and the view, but could use some improvements in the overall experience.
Abdul A — Google review
The food is not good. Honestly, the burger tastes like a 50 rs burger. The fries are really bad. The cheesecake is not fresh; it already settled. Check out the image for reference. The mocaccino is not really a mocaccino. People come here to take photos from the roof. The food is really overpriced, and the kitchen hygiene is average. The burger had raw capsicum in it, like cold stuff.

Amazing ambience and unbeatable beachside location! Perfect spot to relax and enjoy the sea view. Food was good, portions decent, and prices quite affordable compared to other beachside cafes. Self-service setup, but overall a great place to chill with friends or family. Definitely worth a visit when in Pondicherry!

The star point for this place is that it is situated just near the beach which attracts the customers. The food is ok. The place works on self service. The Sacred Heart Basilica, a Gothic-style Catholic church in Pondicherry, is a remarkable monument of colonial history and religious establishment. Its stunning stained-glass panels depict events from the life of Jesus Christ. This architectural marvel reflects Pondicherry's cultural integration and attracts visitors with its grandeur and spirituality. The rich pink exterior and French designs make it a top tourist attraction, drawing Christians from India and abroad to pray and admire its beauty.
A Peaceful and Beautiful Church....! visited the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Pondicherry and had a truly peaceful and memorable experience. The church is very beautiful, with red and white Gothic-style architecture that really stands out. It’s over 100 years old and still looks grand and well-maintained. The inside of the church is calm and quiet. The colourful stained glass windows are amazing to look at.. Whether you're a believer or not, the peaceful atmosphere inside makes you feel relaxed and refreshed. The only small issue is parking. Cars are not allowed inside the church compound, and finding a spot nearby can be a bit tricky, especially during busy hours. It’s better to come by auto or be ready to park a little away and walk. Still, this minor inconvenience doesn’t take away from the overall experience. The church is definitely worth a visit if you're in Pondicherry – for its beauty, calmness, and historical value.

This church is truly beautiful and peaceful. The atmosphere is calm and serene, making it a perfect place to sit quietly and pray. The architecture is lovely, and everything is well-maintained. Visiting here gives a sense of positivity and comfort
Radha J — Google review
A beautiful, peaceful basilica with a striking red-and-white façade and tall Gothic arches. The stained-glass panels glow in the morning light, the nave is calm for prayer, and the grounds (grotto, statues, small garden) are tidy and welcoming. It’s an easy stop from White Town/railway side, and staff/volunteers keep things orderly during Mass. Must visit What could be better: Parking on the boulevard is limited and weekends can get crowded. Photography is usually restricted inside—especially during services—so plan your shots outside. Verdict: Come for quiet prayer and architecture; linger a few minutes just to soak in the stained glass and silence.

The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Puducherry is a magnificent Neo-Gothic architectural landmark, built between 1902 and 1907 by French missionaries. It is renowned for its Latin cross plan, 24 massive columns, and vibrant stained glass panels depicting the life of Christ and various saints. When we visited it was closed, but guard allowed us till the door for few minutes, Felt happy.

This beautiful basilica is truly a gem of Pondicherry! The striking red-and-white Gothic-style architecture, paired with the intricate stained-glass windows, makes it a delight for both history lovers and photography enthusiasts. Step inside, and you’ll find a peaceful, serene atmosphere that feels worlds away from the city buzz. Located conveniently opposite the railway station, it’s very easy to reach—perfect to add to your city exploration. The church is well-maintained, and the natural light streaming through the windows makes the interiors feel warm and inviting. There’s also a small church store nearby. While the collection is nice, a touch of friendliness from the staff would make the experience even better. Overall, Sacred Heart Basilica is a calm and soulful place that beautifully blends history, spirituality, and charm. Whether you’re visiting for prayer, photography, or just a quiet moment, this spot is definitely worth adding to your Pondicherry itinerary.

“A must-visit landmark in Pondicherry! The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is truly stunning with its red-and-white Neo-Gothic design and colorful stained glass windows that light up beautifully in the morning. The interiors are peaceful and very well maintained, offering a calm space for prayer and reflection. Conveniently located near the railway station, it’s easy to reach, though parking for cars can be a bit tricky on busy days. Whether you are spiritual or simply appreciate architecture, this church is worth visiting.”

It's a wonderful, quiet place. All are welcome. A unique marriage of Hindu tradition with Christian culture is seen in the installation of "Dhwaja Stambha" (Kodimaram in Tamil) in front of the church. The symbolic pole is seen largely in all Hindu temples in South India. Loved exploring the place.

LA TENDANCE (by LE CLUB) is a restaurant located in an open-air, garden-style dining room at the old French Villa of Hotel De Pondicherry. It claims to be the first restaurant in Pondy to serve French food and offers a cozy and comfortable ambiance. The menu features French, Italian, Indian & Southeast Asian dishes along with seafood and a wide variety of alcoholic cocktails and beverages. The restaurant is known for its Continental, French and North-Indian cuisine.
Best of food , hadn't tasted perfect steak in a long time till I found this place. Seating is very comfortable, best of vibes , amazing location. And the service is all 10. Background music and the ambience is wonderful. Peaceful, refreshing evening's after a long day

Nice ambiance and close to the beach. Felt little expensive. The chicken salad was not good. Chicken fry and chicken pepper was good even though chicken pepper felt like chicken popcorn.
Gagan G — Google review
Tried their beef steak, which wasn't chewy at all. We arrived after 10 pm, almost closing time 11 PM, and felt rushed. The ambience is excellent for a decent dine-in, but the prices are high, which is expected in such a posh location. It's acceptable to charge more, but we hope the food quality improves.

Disappointing Experience at La Tendance Visited La Tendance recently and unfortunately had quite a disappointing experience. We entered around 10:30 PM, and although the restaurant was still open, the service made us feel extremely unwelcome. I ordered a steak, which was oddly served with just some grated cabbage — no mashed potatoes or sautéed veggies, which are usually standard accompaniments. It felt incomplete and lacked both taste and presentation. Worse was the attitude of the waiter. From the moment we sat down, he seemed in a hurry to wrap things up. By 11 PM, he had already placed the bill on our table and brought over the card machine — all without us asking. It was clear he wanted us to leave as soon as possible, which made the whole dining experience very uncomfortable. If the kitchen was about to close, they should have informed us before seating or taking our order. Not the kind of service or quality I expected, and definitely not a place I’d recommend for a late dinner.
Prasanth M — Google review
The seafood barbeque was subpar and over priced. All I could taste was mustard sauce and it cost around Rs.900 for very less quantity. I'm normally easily impressed by different food flavours but this wasn't it. I've given a 1 star review twice in my life and this is the third time. Please taste test your menu again and work on it. The waiter was polite and the ambience was cozy. Food tasted on August 16th

Had been to this place few years back when it was located in its old location and liked the relaxed atmosphere. So had the same expectations. This place is too crammed. So I have given it a lesser rating for the ambiance and setup which they say is temporary. Food was good in general. Except for Veg lasagna and Crème brûlée for dessert which was very much average. Good service.

Golden Fried Prawns , a special and tasty dish here, don't miss when u visit this French restaurant, Tasty food, bit costly
Satish A — Google review
By far the worst cooked pork chops ever. Hard as rubber that the steak knife had a problem cutting into the meat. It was so "well cooked" that the chop bone was as crispy as a potato wafer. The pasta was on a WHOLE different level - if they over did the pork, they seem to have "balanced" it out with the penne pasta in white sause (wash is more appropriate) cos it lacked ANY SORT OF FLAVOUR OR BASIC SEASONING. EVEN THE OLIVE WAS TASTELESS! Paid close to 2500 for incipid food.

History Museums
The Puducherry Museum, located in the heart of the French Quarter, is a quaint museum known for its rare collection of sculptures, including ancient bronze and stone artifacts. Visitors can explore exhibits spanning from prehistoric times to the French Colonial period, featuring coins, fossils, weaponry, and even a transport section showcasing an early style rickshaw. The museum also houses superb collections of sculpture and remains of archaeological findings from the Arikamedu Roman settlement.
I recently visited the Puducherry Museum and found it truly beautiful and enriching. Though photography and videography were not allowed, (the pics attached are from outside parts of museum) , the museum’s exhibits were captivating. The ancient coins, statues, and detailed historical information provided deep insights into our heritage. It’s a well-maintained space that takes you back in time. I highly recommend it, especially for children to learn about India’s rich culture and history. It’s a must-visit spot in Puducherry. The peaceful ambience and neat display made the experience even more special. Each section of the museum tells a unique story, making it a treasure trove for history lovers.
G M — Google review
The place has potential, but it needs better upkeep. While their collection is quite unique, most items seem to be displayed just for the sake of it, without any proper information or context. Some exhibits aren’t even clearly visible. It would be great if they handled things more professionally, especially considering some of the pieces are genuinely rare. Even a brief description for each item would add a lot of value. On the plus side, the entry fee is just ₹10. But note that photography and videography are not allowed inside the museum.
Deepak R — Google review
TN and Pondy people, please stop unnecessary honking and follow basic traffic manners.📣📣🤯🤯🥵🥵 Decent Museum with Good Collection The museum is pretty decent with a nice collection of antique items. I especially loved the idols and sculptures from the Chola era, along with the French historical displays. There’s also an art gallery, which is worth a visit. The ambience inside is very good and peaceful. Entry is ₹10 for Indians and ₹50 for foreigners, and UPI payments are accepted. Parking, however, is quite difficult to find nearby. Overall, a good spot to explore history and art in Pondy.

The Pondicherry Museum is a fascinating place showcasing the region’s rich history and culture. From ancient sculptures and coins to French-era artifacts, every corner tells a story. The colonial architecture adds charm, and the collection is well-maintained. A must-visit for history lovers exploring Pondicherry’s heritage.
Jithesh D — Google review
The Puducherry Museum, located in White Town near Bharathi Park, rock beach, is a rich repository showcasing the region's history, known particularly for its collection of Chola bronze sculptures and artifacts from the French colonial era. It offers a captivating glimpse into the cultural blend of ancient Tamil heritage and French influence.
Mithun N — Google review
If you’re in Pondicherry on a hot afternoon and unsure where to go, the Pondicherry Museum is a great choice to explore some cool, quiet history. The museum houses an interesting collection of weapons, coins, currencies, and relics from the French colonial era, including furniture used by French generals—tables, beds, and various decoratives. You’ll also find ancient Tamil cultural items like old coins, "Impon" (bronze) statues, Mudhumakkal Thazhi (burial urns), pottery, and plates. One highlight is the display of maps and sand/mineral samples that show how Pondicherry looked in the past. Outside, there are old sculptures, and within the same compound, there's a painting gallery you can visit with the same ticket. Key Information: ⏰ Timings: 9 AM to 6 PM (Closed on Mondays) 🎟️ Entry Fee: ₹10 per adult, ₹5 per child (below 10 years), ₹50 for foreigners 📸 Photography & Videography: Strictly prohibited; staff will remind you if you take out your phone 🚱 Amenities: No visible drinking water facility or restrooms 🧼 Cleanliness: Place is fairly clean, but some exhibits are damaged or lack proper protection and restoration 📋 Information: Most items lack clear labels or dates Despite a few drawbacks, the museum is definitely worth a visit for anyone curious about the heritage of Pondicherry and French India. It offers a peaceful and insightful glimpse into the region’s past.
Shiva G — Google review
A small, well maintained lovely Museum, must visit for those Visiting this lovely City. The cost of the ticket is only Rs.10 per head. Videography and Photography are totally prohibited inside the Museum and Art Gallery but allowed outside the Museum where you could find plenty of stone sculptures. I request the authorities to provide Power Back Up Facility for Museum as it poses great difficulties for the visitors and also a security threat. All the displayed artefacts are well organised. The Government should consider providing Air Conditioners for the Museum and increase the ticket fare accordingly.
Simon J — Google review
Not worth the price collected. There's a dialogue in Munnabhai MBBS, bhai ye tho suru hote hi khatam hogaya. You'd just feel the same. Small place and the entry is not fare.

If you want to be woman in power, then empower other women - Nina Shaw. The above quote can be related to this cafe run by a bunch of smiling ladies.. Sweetest serving people.. Way to go.. The place is very neatly maintained.. This is old residence (or bungalow) which has been turned out to be a place of business.. When you enter you will find trinkets, clothes and showpieces for sale and the restaurant is located on the terrace.. Ambience is something to look out for.. We had 'Indian Enchilada' which is a hot chapati filled with lentils and salads with some cheese sprinkled.. We enjoyed the food and ordered some chocolate pan cakes and Vennila icecream.. Pancake was loaded with chocolates and truly homemade.. Though the prices of the food is overpriced I didn't bother to pay for it as we spent a quality one and half hour chatting and enjoying ourselves.. Service time was fairly good.. I'm likely to go back to this place and spend some time..

It's a small place located at the corner of the Surcouf Street in the White Town. The Ground Floor is a boutique and the rooftop is the restaurant. Had an incredible brunch at Asian House! We were hosted by Vasan, who’s clearly a master at his craft. We left our cocktail choices entirely up to him, and every drink he brought out was spot-on — balanced, creative, and perfectly paired with the food. You can tell he really knows his spirits. The food was equally impressive — fresh, flavorful, and beautifully plated. Every dish had that perfect balance of taste and texture that keeps you wanting another bite. All in all, an excellent experience — amazing food, brilliant cocktails, and stellar service. Definitely coming back, and definitely asking for Vasan again!

I went there 8 months ago when the place had recently opened. I believe some work was still left.. The catchy thing about the place when you enter is the BAR. The table is lit and looks fantastic with the shelves fully stocked with fancy bottles... I must give it to the bartender for his skill in making awesome legit drinks and customer handling (friendly but not too chatty). We didn't order any food as we didnt find anything exciting in the menu. Ambience was good enough, given it wasn't fully ready. The Old Lighthouse in Pondicherry, completed in the 1830s, is a city landmark and a popular tourist attraction. It offers limited public visiting hours, allowing visitors to experience its rich history and enjoy breathtaking views of the coast from the top. The lighthouse was constructed by the French rulers and is currently undergoing extensive renovation. Initially lit by oil lamps, it was later upgraded to electrical lamps.
The Old Lighthouse of Pondicherry, built in 1836 by the French, is a historic landmark situated on Goubert Avenue (Beach Road). It was the first lighthouse in the region, designed to guide ships approaching the Pondicherry port. Made of masonry and featuring a cylindrical tower, it once housed a powerful kerosene lamp that illuminated the coastline. The lighthouse was operational until 1979, when a new, modern lighthouse was built nearby. Though no longer in use, the Old Lighthouse remains a popular tourist attraction, offering insights into French maritime history. Easily accessible from the French Quarter, it is best visited while exploring Promenade Beach, the French War Memorial, and other colonial landmarks. The site is well-connected by road from Chennai (150 km away) and can be reached by bus, taxi, or private vehicle. It’s a must-visit for history lovers and photographers.
Indranil B — Google review
This old light house served as a navigation to the Ships approaching the land of Pondicherry. The Light house was constructed in 1835, the region around mât de pavillon. Around the lighthouse. It was erected by L. Guerre, the French engineer. The light house measures 29 meters tall is a fluted surfaced tower, built on a rectangular building base. The light house has three entrances, which serves the exits also. The light from the tower reaches out to over 29 kilometres in radius. The tower was renovated many times and is at present slightly different from whence it was built. In 1931 a rotating light which is of 1000 watt replaced the fixed light in the tower. Later in 1970 another new lighthouse was built Keerapalayam village and this lighthouse was abandoned. From then it came to be known as Old Lighthouse and has become a monument. This monument serves as a museum and is located in front of Gandhi Statue.
Veludharan — Google review
Standing tall along Pondicherry Marina Beach, the Old Lighthouse is a striking reminder of the town’s rich maritime history. Built during the French colonial era, this historic structure once guided ships safely to shore and now serves as a symbolic landmark of the city’s coastal heritage. Its classic cylindrical tower and weathered stonework make it an architectural gem worth photographing, especially against the backdrop of the sea. Though it is no longer functional as a lighthouse, it still holds an undeniable charm, evoking images of a time when Pondicherry was a busy trading port. Visitors can enjoy the scenic views around the lighthouse, particularly during the golden hours of sunrise or sunset. While you can’t climb to the top anymore, simply standing near it and feeling the sea breeze gives a sense of nostalgia and connection to the past. The Old Lighthouse is best visited as part of a walk along Marina Beach, combined with nearby attractions. It’s not a long stop, but it’s a must for history lovers, architecture enthusiasts, and anyone looking to capture a slice of Pondicherry’s unique character.
Bala K — Google review
The old lighthouse is located in the White Town of Pondicherry. It was built in 1836 by a famous engineer Louis Guerre on the orders of the then French rulers. It is located on a rectangular base 29 meters high. It was built to help ensure the safe movement of ships. After a long period of use, it was closed in 1979. In its place, a new lighthouse was built which is taller and has modern facilities. However, even though the old lighthouse was closed, it has not lost its popularity among the common people. It is still at the center of people's attraction. When domestic and foreign tourists from far and wide come to visit Pondicherry, they definitely come to visit it. Although it is not operational, it stands as a historical landmark on the seashore. Looking at it, one can find the remander of the rich history and heritage of this city. When the light falls on it during sunrise and sunset, it looks incredibly beautiful. Standing next to the lighthouse and feeling the cool breeze of the sea gives you a nostalgic feeling. It won't take long to visit this lighthouse. You can visit it right after walking along the beach and seeing other tourist attractions. This establishment will fascinate history lovers and architecture enthusiasts.
