Cave and Basin National Historic Site is a significant landmark in Canada, as it was the birthplace of the country's national parks system. Discovered by railway workers in 1883, this site offers interactive exhibits that showcase Canada's network of protected places. Visitors can take guided tours of the original cave to learn about its history and culture, including lantern tours for an after-dark experience.
Staff is Very Friendly! They invited and showed us how to play hockey games even in the cold weather, and explain the situation of the ecological environment in the Basin. We had a lot of fun there!Thank you! The trail along the site is also recommended! It is a winter wonderland ❤️

The Cave and Basin National Historic Site is an interesting place to visit, especially if you’re into history and learning about the origins of Canada’s national parks. The cave itself is unique, and the bubbling thermal waters are cool to see. However, the site is relatively small, and there isn’t a ton to do after you’ve explored the main features. Worth a visit if you’re nearby.
Abdullah S — Google review
This is a great park and exhibit area. There are some really cool signs before entering the cave inside which was amazing. Beware that you need to duck, and it really smells bad. Walking up to the springs on the hill is also really cool. Another great thing here is the Marsh Trail. This is a well rounded and unique and cool experience.
E B — Google review
It was an amazing experience visiting this place and reading about how the national parks came to be in Canada. So much information is shared in the exhibits. The hot spring cave was pretty amazing to see as well. The exhibits and displays conveyed a great story of how the site was formed and how it was converted to a national historic site. Definitely recommend visiting the place with kids and helping them understand a bit of history of the land these national forests came to be from.
Srivalli Y — Google review
This is worth a visit if you have time. The museum provides interesting information about the local First Nations people, as well as the later discovery of the site by European settlers. The location is stunning, and there are trails you can walk: a short and easy marsh boardwalk with information boards about the local wildlife; a longer marsh trail; and a significantly longer route to Sundance Canyon. Use the marsh trail & loop back on the first part of the Canyon route for a decent circular walk. Use your insect repellant! (Fearsome mosquitoes).
Chris W — Google review
It was neat to see the old cave and pools, but there wasn’t much else there and the admission price is more than triple what it was years ago. There was a short video played on the screens, but not very informative. I will say, though, all the staff were super friendly and very eager to assist. Good people.
I S — Google review
Cave and Basin National Historic Site is a hidden gem in Banff that offers both a beautiful and educational experience. The site is incredibly clean and well-maintained, making it a pleasure to explore. The natural surroundings are stunning, and the historic significance of the area adds an extra layer of interest to the visit. If you’re a new Canadian citizen, don’t miss the opportunity to use the Canoo app to get a free pass to this historic site. It’s a great way to dive into Canada’s rich history without any cost. The site provides a fascinating look into the origins of Canada’s national parks, with informative displays and exhibits that help you understand the importance of this location.
Tarsan A — Google review
It was very impressive. It smelled amazing because it smelled so strong. It seemed like a miracle that there was a creature like a snail here. It was believed that this sulfur hot spring was really good water for healing. If there was a private spa, I would have wanted to experience it, but unfortunately, only public baths existed.

Waterfall
Nature & Parks
Bow Falls is a wide and short waterfall located near The Fairmont Banff Springs, just before the confluence of the Bow and Spray rivers. The Bow River plunges over sloping limestone ledges, creating a local landmark that offers excellent perspectives of crashing gray-green water. Visitors can take in the view from the Bow Falls Trail, which runs along the river and provides benches for relaxation. Across the river at Surprise Corner, there's an ideal spot for capturing picturesque photos of this natural wonder.
Bow Falls is a beautiful spot and definitely worth a visit if you’re in Banff. It is surrounded by stunning mountain views which creates an amazing setting. It’s a great place for a short walk and to sit and enjoy nature. While it’s not a massive waterfall, the scenery and tranquility make up for it.
Nadia O — Google review
Beautiful, cascading falls close to the Banff Springs Hotel. Easy walk from anywhere in town along the Bow River Trail. I highly recommend walking the entire Bow River Trail when you go. It has spectacular scenery of all the surrounding mountains with well done art walk along the way.
Carmen B — Google review
It's nice and neat to see the rock under the water and hotel. You can get good photos from either side of the falls. There are better falls though but good to see if your in Banff for the day.
Lucas F — Google review
Bow Falls is a beautiful and powerful waterfall located just a short walk from downtown Banff. It's an easy and accessible spot, perfect for a quick visit or a peaceful stroll along the nearby trails. The surrounding mountain views add to the charm, especially during sunrise or sunset. While not a very tall waterfall, its width and force make it a must-see attraction in Banff.
JINS L — Google review
So cool to walk along the art walk on our way to the falls! There were tons of people around but nothing ever felt crowded because there’s so much space. A beautiful place you gotta see!
Jen S — Google review
Great parking space. It got chilly and windy but the falls was so far the widest though shortest I’ve seen. The sound of the falls just couldn’t be beat regardless! Great stop!
MC S — Google review
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Bow Falls is an absolute gem that showcases the natural beauty of Banff without requiring a strenuous hike. Located just a short walk from the Banff Springs Hotel, these cascading falls offer stunning views year-round, though they're particularly impressive during spring runoff when the water volume is at its peak. The paved pathway makes it accessible for visitors of all ages and mobility levels, which is wonderful for families. The viewing areas provide excellent photo opportunities, especially with the iconic Banff Springs Hotel creating a dramatic backdrop. The sound of rushing water creates a peaceful atmosphere that's perfect for a moment of reflection. While not as towering as some of the region's other waterfalls, Bow Falls has a charm all its own. The wide, multi-tiered cascade creates beautiful patterns in the rock, and the surrounding forest adds to the scenic appeal. It's an ideal spot for a quick nature break if you're staying in town or exploring the Bow River area. The only minor drawback is that it can get quite busy during peak tourist season, so early morning or late afternoon visits tend to be more peaceful. Despite the crowds, it remains a must-see attraction that captures the essence of the Canadian Rockies in an easily accessible setting.
Ramdas M — Google review
Easy enough walk from & back to Banff Centre. Lovely outdoor art installations by local Bow Valley artists, part of the 'Art in Nature Trail' on display along the trail.

Specialty Museums
The Banff Park Museum National Historic Site, located at 92 Banff Avenue in Alberta, Canada, is a significant landmark that showcases the country's early approach to natural history and conservation. Housed in a rustic log building constructed in 1895, the museum features over 5,000 vintage specimens of plants, minerals, and animals associated with Banff National Park. The collection includes stuffed animals, geological finds, and an extensive library.
This museum turned out to be one of the best places I have visited for anyone interested in nature and wildlife. What makes it special is the way it presents the animals of the region in such a complete and impressive way. The collection includes everything from plants and insects to mammals and birds, all carefully preserved through taxidermy. Walking through the exhibits gives you a real sense of the diversity of life in the area, and seeing the animals in their actual size and form was both educational and fascinating. The wooden interior and overall design of the museum add to the natural atmosphere, making the space feel warm and inviting. It’s not just about displays it feels like a step closer to understanding the environment and the creatures that live in it. Another highlight is that there is no admission fee. Entry is completely free, which makes it very accessible for everyone. At the entrance, the staff were welcoming and helpful, taking the time to explain the basic rules for visitors. This created a positive first impression and made the visit smooth and enjoyable. We really enjoyed spending time here, taking photos, and learning more about the local wildlife. It’s also an excellent spot for children, since they can see animals up close in a way that books or screens can’t offer. Overall, I highly recommend this museum to families, tourists, and anyone curious about the natural world. It was a truly rewarding experience.
Gelareh G — Google review
A small museum near downtown with an interesting variety of local subjects covered. The largest subject seemed to be the local wildlife. It was interesting how they included the animals' environment of a few animals and may have influenced them - a very good idea, which should be expanded. The second subject covered global warming, which had a section just for it. Thought it was very well done, making it interesting without being overly scientific. The building itself was historical. There's not much on museums, but this was nice to see on a local level.
Michael B — Google review
Banff Park Museum is a must-visit gem in Banff National Park! Housed in a beautiful historic log building, this museum offers a fascinating look at Western Canada’s natural history with over 5,000 vintage specimens, from stuffed bears to unique minerals. The interactive exhibits and Xplorers Club activities were a hit with our kids, making it a fun and educational stop. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The only downside was that it felt a bit small, and we wished for more modern displays. Still, a great experience for the price, and we’d definitely return!
Pradip J — Google review
Cute and charming little museum dedicated to stuffed animals and local wildlife. Some of their oldest bird specimens date back to the 1860s, which is amazing to see up close. There’s a small admission fee, but it’s absolutely worth it to help support the local parks and preserve the area’s natural history.
Corina S — Google review
It was an interesting museum. The museum displays the wildlife of Canada and you can see many species that can be difficult to spot in their natural habitat. I liked the owls display. Also the building itself is a lovely building. This place is a great place for kids and those who are interested in animals.
Hooman T — Google review
Has to be seen to be believed. To see specimens of such a huge range of wildlife over 100 years old was incredible. Even the 120 year old display cases were wonderful to look at. Highly recommended.
Darren D — Google review
Wandered in just past 3PM, and was told I had the rare opportunity to have the guided tour at 3:30PM. So I wandered around in the museum, which despite its size has quite a few things on display. It's essentially a taxidermy display of animals that roamed (or at least at some point) the surrounding areas. At 4.50$ for an adult, it isn't exactly pricey and the sign at the entrance said it was actually free for year pass holders, though unfortunately I didn't have it on me. The building is a work of art, both inside and outside and is a rare survivor of its time and style. The guided tour was great, and provided a lot more insight into the history of how the place came to be as well as a minor intro into taxidermy. I was told the tour was only two days per year or so, but all of the staff I talked to were very eager to help answer any question you might have. So don't hesitate to ask stuff. All staff were extremely knowledgeable about a great variety of topics. Things to look out for: - a very chunky beaver - botched avian pedicures - a nearly beheaded pelican - the US custom stamps on some displays - the adorable staff member Claire who made my day
Justin D — Google review
This local museum is definitely worth visiting. I haven't known that there are so many species in Banff habitat. The ticket is cheap. The only thing that I didn't like was that poor light inside. The exhibition requires more light.

Mountain peak
Tunnel Mountain, located in Banff National Park, is the smallest summit in the region and offers a variety of hiking trails suitable for beginners. Despite its easy incline, hikers can enjoy stunning views of the Bow and Spray River valleys, Banff Springs Golf Course, and Banff Hot Springs on Sulphur Mountain. The highway that crosses the mountain provides a scenic drive and serves as the main access route to Banff.
We loved this hike but I wouldn’t say it was “easy.” While we saw many younger people stride by us, the steep switchbacks were very much felt in our knees and the trip down was a lot of strain on our knees but we loved it. The views from the top of this 5,532 ft mountain were spectacular and you can see all of Banff town center, the Fairmont, beautiful Bow River and more. At one point in the trail you are almost parallel to an adjacent mountain and it’s very exciting to be that close. They have two Adirondack chairs at the top. No washrooms so be sure to go before your hike.
Onthegoboomer — Google review
We hiked Tunnel Mountain Summit for the first time and were truly amazed! The views are stunning, and the trail is well-maintained with a pleasant mix of rock and soft pine needles. It’s an easy, enjoyable hike—perfect for burning some calories while soaking in the scenery. The trail can get busy, as it draws visitors from all over, but it’s absolutely worth it. A real hidden gem in Banff, and so conveniently close to the trailer court. We’ll definitely be back. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the area!
Maggie — Google review
This was a terrific hike. We stayed at the Buffalo Mountain Lodge, and walked 15 minutes down the road to the trailhead. The trail is basically a switch back, going back and forth with gentle inclines. This is great for beginners and those who are a little more challenged. Do make sure that you wear decent hiking shoes as there are plenty of loose rocks heading up the hills.
Thomas V — Google review
Great hike today to the Tunnel Mountain summit. Beautiful views of the Bow River Valley looking one way and the town of Banff in the other direction. Only 40 minutes to the summit from the upper parking lot.
Philip T — Google review
Great hike up this mountain. There's a bit of unstable ground (rocks and tree roots) that you'll need to look out for. Make sure you have good hiking shoes (no Crocs/sandals). Lots of active people running up and down the mountain. Parking is limited at the mid-point. Lots of cyclists riding though, so ensure you drive carefully.
Natalie M — Google review
Lovely family-friendly hike that would have been a great warm-up hike for us at the start of our trip (as opposed to Ha Ling Peak, which was a harrowing endeavor in contrast). We had some issues with parking as Tunnel Mountain Drive was closed for Melissa’s Road Race on the day we did our climb but ultimately figured it out and easily made it to the top for sweeping views of the Banff area, Mount Rundle and the Cascade Mountain.
John L — Google review
Tunnel Mountain is one of my favorite spots in Banff! The hike to the summit is relatively easy, making it perfect for all skill levels, including families and casual hikers. The trail winds through beautiful forested areas before opening up to stunning panoramic views of Banff, the Bow Valley, and surrounding peaks like Mount Rundle. I love sitting at the top and just taking in the scenery—it’s peaceful and rejuvenating. The location is very convenient, just a short walk from downtown Banff, so you can enjoy nature without venturing far from town.
Vinh L — Google review
Absolutely beautiful hike that overlooks Banff. Relatively easy depending on fitness. Took about 40mins from the bottom of the hike. However you can start about 1/4 of the way through if you have a car there is a parking spot that misses the first 400metres. Overall it was stunning here and a great free activity to do 🏔️

The Banff Gondola offers a serene ride to the top of Sulphur Mountain, providing breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding peaks. At the summit, visitors can stroll out to a grassy bluff overlooking Banff town and marvel at the majestic mountains. The gondola ascends in just eight minutes, leading to observation decks and boardwalks at the peak. Additionally, guests can enjoy dining at Sky Bistro, an upscale restaurant with stunning mountain vistas.
The Banff Gondola is absolutely worth the ride. The views as you ascend Sulphur Mountain are breathtaking, and once at the top, the panorama of Banff, the Bow Valley, and surrounding peaks is unforgettable. The boardwalk along the ridge is easy and offers different vantage points—every few steps feels like a new postcard shot. The visitor center at the summit is modern and well designed, with interactive exhibits, a rooftop observation deck, and a café/restaurant where you can sit and take in the scenery. It’s family-friendly, and you can spend anywhere from an hour to half a day exploring, depending on how much walking you want to do. If possible, go at sunset—the colors over the mountains are magical. The gondola is a bit pricey, but the experience and views make it worthwhile.

Must Go when in Banff! Great activity with kids!! Super easy hike! I was with my 2 little ones in June. Amazing views all around! May not be wheelchair friendly for the hike but still see the view from the building! Super clean, easy, and safe! If you get lucky you will see some animals!! Highly Recommend for anyone and families!
Nara L — Google review
Loved this! The gondola ride was great. The view from the top is amazing! The actual trails at the top were closed when visited but there was still space and short trail to walk at the top to enjoy the view. There also an outdoor restaurant at the top. Small line to enter the gondola ride but moved quickly. The staff were also really friendly. Would recommend checking ticket prices online and if trails are open prior to going.
Aakash P — Google review
The Banff Gondola is one of the most iconic experiences in the Canadian Rockies, offering breathtaking panoramic views and exceptional opportunities for photography. Located just a short drive from downtown Banff, the gondola takes visitors to the summit of Sulphur Mountain, where six mountain ranges unfold in every direction. The journey itself lasts only a few minutes, but the scenery evolves dramatically as you ascend — from dense evergreen forests to rugged alpine peaks. At the top, photographers will find a series of viewing platforms and the Sulphur Mountain Boardwalk, a scenic trail leading to the Cosmic Ray Station. Every step along this ridge provides a new composition — sweeping valleys, glacial rivers, and the charming town of Banff nestled far below. The light changes quickly at this altitude, making sunrise and sunset particularly magical times to visit. The summit complex, known as the Banff Gondola Upper Terminal, features indoor observation decks, interpretive exhibits, and a rooftop terrace perfect for wide-angle landscape shots. For those who enjoy combining photography with fine dining, the Sky Bistro offers spectacular window views alongside locally inspired cuisine. Winter adds another dimension to the experience: snow-covered peaks, soft golden light, and the contrast of white landscapes against deep blue skies. In summer, the air is crisp and clear, revealing endless layers of the Rockies — a dream setting for both casual photographers and professionals. The Banff Gondola is more than just a ride — it’s an invitation to see the Canadian Rockies from their most majestic angle. Whether you’re capturing vast landscapes, dramatic skies, or intimate mountain details, this location rewards every photographer with unforgettable imagery.

The 2200 foot climb with 2- 4 seat gondola cabins is a must do on any bucket list. There are 3 restaurants at the top. A cafe with plenty of eats and bevies, a buffet style restaurant with an amazing aray of food items and desserts, and the Sky Bistro. The reward at the top are the stunning mountain views. I encourage you to take the boardwalk to the peak. Dress appropriately and proper footwear suggested.
Kerry K — Google review
What a magnificent view and experience when you get up there. We went there when it was snowing so it was wet. Might want to bring a pancho in case it t snow or rains. We bought ticket online and printed out our ticket. We also bought a package for dinner at the Sky Bistro as well highly recommend it. We were here in early November and it was not a lot of people at all. We drove up to their parking area. There are 2 parking area. You will need to pay for the national park pass to park there. You can also take a bus from the city. The gondola ride is pretty easy. Seats 4 per gondola. Before you get to the gondola, you will go through a line and they will take a picture for souvenirs. It is the same as when you come down from the mountain. Trying to sell you the experience. When you get up to the top, there is a four story building with exhibits. There is a theater as well. They only complain is I wish they would have documentary about the history of the mountains and the weather station. The hike to the weather station is pretty easy. It is boardwalk all the way up and downstairs if you go during the snow, make sure to dress appropriately and have good shoes for traction. On the fourth floor, there is an observatory deck which you can sit out, and there was fireplace that you can stand around when it’s cold. There is a Starbucks and gift shop down at the valley where you start your gondola ride. I saw two restaurants and a coffee shop and a gift shop at the top of the mountain. Overall cleanliness of the building is very good. All the staffs that works there are very friendly and nice and helpful. Highly recommend buying a promotional gondola ride and a restaurant experience at the Sky Bistro.
Michael Y — Google review
The Banff Gondola is pure magic — an experience that makes you feel on top of the world (literally). From the moment the gondola lifts off, you’re rising above the trees, watching the valleys and peaks open up below you. The ride is smooth and surprisingly quick, but the views unfold like a movie — every angle more breathtaking than the last. At the top, you’re standing at one of the highest accessible points in Canada, with panoramic views that truly make you feel small in the best way possible. Snow-capped peaks, endless forests, crisp mountain air — it’s nature showing off. Tips for travelers: • Bring layers — it’s much colder and windier at the summit than at the base. • Take your time at the top. There are walking paths and lookout platforms that are worth every step. • Even if you’ve seen photos online, nothing compares to being there in person. This isn’t just a ride; it’s an essential Banff experience. If you want to see the Canadian Rockies in their full glory, the gondola is a must. 📍 Banff Gondola — a ride to the sky, and a memory you’ll never forget. #MichelleGoesGlobal
Michelle S — Google review
The gondola ride was so beautiful to see the views while riding up was amazing! I am afraid of heights so it was a little scary lol but I was so glad I did it! The views were worth it and getting to the top and hiking sulfur mountain was an experience to remember! It was sprinkling and the sun was out there was a rainbow. It was so incredible! When we got to the top of the mtn the rain turned into snow flurries it was so pretty. It didn't take long to hike and seeing the areas we went to the days prior was super cool to see from this view. Once we got back to the Gondola area the views from the skydeck was pretty and there was a station to color a post card, which was a fun experience with my daughter. We then had dinner at the Sky Bistro, which was a must. Def make reservations ahead of time cause you don't want to miss the amazing food! This whole experience is a must if you are visiting Banff National Park!

The venue is known for its comfortable booths for eating and drinking while playing on the bowling lanes.

My partner and I came for dinner and bowling last Friday night. I didn’t get out waitresses name but she was absolutely lovely and she looked after us from dinner over to our bowling. Great food, definitely a loud environment but that’s to be expected. Definitely want to return when we come back! :)

Wanted to go bowling but couldn't due to it being busy 😭, but the staff was very nice and the building looked amazing, I love the retro look
Austin K — Google review
Gave it a 4 because it’s not a place to come if you take bowling seriously. It’s a super fun place to party, dance, drink, play games, but if you’re a bowler this isn’t the place to come if you’re used to curving the ball and going for high scores. The pins are attached to strings. The ball return ramp is too close to the lane, and the lanes probably haven’t had a machine move over them in years. This is a great place to party, get drunk and have a good time but if you come here to specifically bowl then this isn’t the pace for you.

Banff Upper Hot Springs is a historic thermal mineral springs located in Banff National Park, Canada. The hot springs were discovered in the late 1880s and have since become a popular destination for visitors seeking relaxation and rejuvenation. Situated at an elevation of over 5,000ft in the Rocky Mountains, the natural pool offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
We went in early summer in June. It was pretty hot day so we were sitting on the edges. It would be nice if they could have a colder pool to cool off on hot days. The swimsuit drying machine didn’t work which was a bummer. However, its a very cool experience. It is first come first serve so be there early. Gondola is a street down so if you can plan accordingly can go right after. They have a family price for 2 adults and 2 children which was nice and lockers come with the cost. You will need to bring your towels and swimsuit or pay extra. The view is amazing
Nara L — Google review
We really enjoyed the hot springs. The whole family even our little ones said they felt better and their skin felt less dry after spending time in the baths. We did forget to bring our water bottles up and hydration is important when you're sitting in that heat. It was not too full when we visited on a Friday afternoon. The views are amazing all around while you relax in the pool. The only negative was the high cost for a family of 6. We were once again discriminated against for having too many kids. The "family" pass only covered 4 people. Well, we have 4 young kids, so we had to pay over $70 to go sit in the bath. We were given 6 locker tokens though, as if our 7 and 10 year olds needed their own locker. Felt like another globalist led attack against "the family unit". Maybe Parks Canada can look at this and aim for a bit more fairness for families. Also, no Jr Ranger anything available at the NP Historic Site.

Fun place to visit for a few minutes but detractors include an extremely large crowd, limited shade, and it's not a very big pool for the number of visitors that are here. Views are good and the pool is warm. It's best not to bring anything in the pool area as there is extremely limited space to store anything. This includes water bottles, towels, watches, etc. Bring your phone if you want to grab a few pictures.
Victor W — Google review
It was okay, there’s just one pool and it was quite crowded when we went. The day was very hot, so we mostly sat on the sides, and a thunderstorm ended up closing the pool for safety. They did offer rain checks to those who had only just arrived, which was nice. The women’s locker room swimsuit dryer was out of order, but overall the facilities are good. I think it would probably be a much better experience in the winter.
Roseanne — Google review
Went for a muscle soak after walking up Sulphur mountain. Quite expensive as we only stayed about 30 minutes because it was so hot. Had to exit 2 or 3 times and cold shower to cool off (I know that's the whole point). Quite busy, even at midday in high season. Would be lovely early on, or perhaps later in the afternoon, especially if it's cold outside. Great views!
Andrea C — Google review
Opinion seems to be divided on this one! It’s basically a thermal pool with a view. It’s not a spa experience like the Blue Lagoon or the Thermae Spa in Bath so anyone looking for that would be disappointed. I like a soak in a hot pool so really enjoyed it and I liked the retro vibe. I went at about 10.45 on a drizzly Saturday morning. It was busy but no queue to get in. People tend to sit round the edge of the pool but it’s reasonably easy to find a spot and the atmosphere is quite chilled. It’s not expensive. I got a senior rate and paid just over £10 for admission, bus each way from downtown and towel hire. You can bring flip flops for the poolside but I didn’t use them as the floor was clean and non slippy. As other reviewers have said the staff are really nice. There’s a little cafe upstairs - very similar to swimming pool cafes in England.

Just one big hot tub. Beautiful views! Fun experience but not a must do. Full at opening but quieted down around noon. Easy parking and change rooms. Dining inside (did not eat there but nice that there is the ability). Bring your own towels or rent onsite. Swimsuits also available to rent. $17.50 for adult admission is reasonable for the experience.
Evelyn M — Google review
It’s National park service facility. And at 5,200 ft it’s the highest hot springs in Canada. And I’m glad Parks Canada continue to offer it to the public. The facility went through a remodel a few years back and maybe it’s time again. Gotta fix those lockers and shower fixtures. The hot springs is really a shared pool that’s 2 ft at one end and deeper at other. So everyone just pops out of the men/women facility and get in to soak. When you first enter it seems a bit cool but the temperature is about 40C or 108F. Its comfortable but I wished it was hotter. It’s hot enough to make first timers need to sit up after 20 mins soaking. After going there I would suggest wearing slides to the pool and inside the locker to keep your feet clean. Other tips include bring your own towels: a big one for showering and drying off, and a small one that the Japanese use in onsen to plunk down in the hot water and place on the head. It makes a difference comfort wise. And bring a water bottle to refill. The water fountain by the pool doesn’t work but inside the locker room there’s a refill station. During the summer and either elevated UV it’s probably best to bring you sunnies as you sit outside to soak. When you sit poolside you can get a view of the tops Mount Rundle. It’s a bargain for what they charge but you get what you paid for. It can be better. If you come around 7pm it’s likely parking is to be had in P1 only five minutes walk uphill (you roll downhill after). Refreshing !

(Translated by Google) It is located slightly higher in Banff Village, so it has a nice view and it is nice to be able to use an independent room. In my case, 7 people used it, and there were two rooms with a double bed on the first floor, a kitchen and living room on the second floor, and a loft with a double bed on the third floor. The sofa in the living room is a sofa bed, so it can be used as a bed for two. There are also barbecue facilities outside, free coffee and tea in the lobby, and a heated pool to the right of the lobby, which is great for warming up in cold weather. Bodies of Water
Vermilion Lakes, located in the Vermilion Valley near the entrance of Banff National Park, offer a convenient and picturesque setting for outdoor activities. Accessible by car, these lakes are popular among families and beginners looking to enjoy kayaking or canoeing without embarking on long hikes. Surrounded by mountains and trees, the serene lakes provide stunning reflections of the peaks.
I loved my visit to Vermilion Lakes — it’s such a peaceful escape with stunning views of the mountains reflected perfectly in the calm water. It felt like a hidden gem just minutes from downtown Banff. The area has several easy walking trails along the lakeshore that are perfect for a relaxing stroll or wildlife spotting. I saw ducks, geese, and even a few curious deer nearby. It’s great for photography, especially early in the morning or at sunset when the light is magical and the reflections are crystal clear. There are picnic spots too, so it’s a lovely place to bring snacks and just soak in the natural beauty. If you’re into kayaking or canoeing, you might find rentals nearby to explore the lakes from the water. A few tips from my visit: • Bring insect repellent, especially in warmer months — mosquitoes can be pretty active near the water. • Wear comfortable shoes for walking the trails. • The parking lot can fill up quickly on busy days, so try to get there early. • Don’t forget your camera — the views are spectacular from almost every angle. Whether you want a quiet place to relax, a nature walk, or some beautiful photos, Vermilion Lakes is a must-see when you’re in Banff. I’ll definitely be back!

Vermilion Lakes is a peaceful and picturesque spot just minutes from Banff. The views of Mount Rundle reflecting on the water are absolutely stunning, especially at sunrise or sunset. It’s easy to access, with scenic pullouts along the road, and a great place for photography, a quiet walk, or just to sit and enjoy the calm. In winter, the frozen lake is just as magical. The Buffalo Nations Museum, located in Banff, Alberta, is a fort-like museum that houses a diverse collection of artifacts showcasing the history and culture of the indigenous First Nations people who lived in and around the Canadian Rockies. The museum specializes in preserving the rich heritage of Canada with exhibits featuring early Indian civilizations, photography displays, a variety of musical instruments, and seasonal events such as ceremonies, dances, and songs.
Nice small museum..gift shop..staff we're helpful and polite..disabled friendly ramp inside to get to display area...have to pay to get in..lots of items on display..screens with information playing you can sit and watch and listen....can take photos..just don't touch glass displays or exhibits...can get a guide to show you and explain everything you see...do groups as well...

The Buffalo Nations Museum is a charming, medium-sized museum that offers a fascinating glimpse into indigenous history. You can expect to spend up to an hour exploring the exhibits. While the displays are engaging, the museum could benefit from more comprehensive information on indigenous cultures and histories. Despite a slightly higher admission fee compared to previous years, the overall experience was good. One notable disappointment was the removal of the Sun Dance exhibit, which I was eager to share with my children. However, the drum room was a big hit, providing an interactive and enjoyable experience for them. The museum shop also deserves a mention for its delightful selection of animal stuffed toys native to Canada, making it a perfect stop for kids.
Samuel N — Google review
Beautiful artefacts and certainly worth your support. However, the museum struggles to find a red threat and/or guiding red thread throughout all that it has to offer. Also, the lack of a washroom for guests is a minus.
Frank B — Google review
Visiting the Buffalo Nations Museum was one of the most meaningful parts of our trip to Banff. Tucked away near the Bow River, this beautiful museum offers a powerful and immersive glimpse into the lives, culture, and history of the Indigenous peoples of the Northern Plains and Rockies. From the moment we walked in, we were struck by the depth of knowledge and respect shown for Indigenous traditions and ways of life. The exhibits are thoughtfully curated, with incredible displays of traditional regalia, beadwork, hunting tools, tipis, and artifacts that speak to the strength, resilience, and beauty of the cultures represented. What stood out most was how personal and grounded everything felt. There was a real sense of storytelling — not just facts and dates, but the voices and histories of people who have called this land home for thousands of years. It’s a museum that invites reflection, respect, and appreciation for cultures that too often go overlooked. The gift shop is also lovely — small but full of meaningful items, many of them made by Indigenous artisans. Whether you’re looking for a thoughtful souvenir or a gift with cultural significance, it’s definitely worth browsing. The location itself couldn’t be more beautiful — nestled in the picturesque town of Banff with the mountains as a backdrop. It’s a peaceful and inspiring place to spend a few hours, and a must-visit for anyone wanting to better understand the land they’re standing on. If you’re in Banff and looking to connect with the deeper roots of the area, don’t miss this museum. It’s not just history — it’s living culture, and it’s told with care, heart, and authenticity.

Visited this museum on a rainy day in Banff. It took about 40 minutes to walk through. Reading the history and seeing the items on display were so interesting. It was also cool to be able to hit the drum. There are 2 videos playing but it's hard to hear with people talking and the drum being played. The gift shop has a large selection and alot of "Made locally in Canada" items which I appreciated. The staff were super friendly. Definitely recommend checking it out!

Fenland Trailhead is a family-friendly 1.2-mile loop that takes you through a white spruce forest and along the shores of Forty Mile Creek and Vermillion Lakes in Banff. The trail offers opportunities for picnicking by the creek and spotting wildlife like elk, deer, and various birds. It's also part of the Bow River Trail, allowing for extended excursions through downtown Banff.
I did the Fenland Trail in the evening on my way back to Banff town from Vermilion Lakes, and it was the perfect little detour to end the day. It’s an easy, flat loop through beautiful old spruce forest, and you really feel tucked away in nature even though you’re so close to town. I loved how quiet it was in the evening — just the sound of the creek and birds. I took my time crossing the wooden bridges and stopping to watch the light fade through the trees. It’s only about 2 km so it doesn’t take long, maybe 30–40 minutes at a relaxed pace. Some tips from my walk: • If you’re at Vermilion Lakes, it’s really convenient — you can walk or drive a couple of minutes to the Fenland Trail parking lot. • It’s a gravel/dirt path, really easy to follow and suitable for all ages. • Bring bug spray if it’s warm — mosquitoes come out near the water, especially at dusk! • There are benches along the trail if you want to just sit and listen to the creek. • I’d recommend doing it before it’s fully dark — there are no lights on the trail, so plan for daylight or bring a headlamp if you’re late. This was a nice, gentle way to wind down after visiting Vermilion Lakes — peaceful, easy, and you end up right near town. If you want a quiet forest walk without needing to drive far, Fenland is a great choice. I’ll definitely do it again next time I’m in Banff!

Perfect path if you have kids. It's a nice flat trail, definitely not stroller friendly as other reviews have stated, there are many exposed roots. It takes about 45 min to an hour, depending on your pace. With plenty of beautiful scenery along the way. There isn't much parking at the trailhead, but you can drive up the street and park in the arena lot

I bought some Caramallows at this store in March 2025. Our family has purchased these caramel covered marshmallows for years and we have always enjoyed them. However, when we got them this time, we were so disappointed. The caramel stuck to the wrapper and they were impossible to remove from the paper. This has never happened before. Since we live a four hour drive away from Banff, we could not simply return to the store to express our concern. We did not immediately discover the wrapper problem because we didn't try to eat the Caramallows until we got home. Because the Caramallows were expensive and inedible due to the paper sticking to the caramel, I wanted them to be replaced. I reached out to the owner, as well as to the store itself, but, to date, I have not received a reply. Talk about poor customer service. I guess that, once the store has your money, nobody cares about the customer anymore. Buyer beware!

I forgot what I was looking for when I stepped into this Banff Sweet Shoppe! Everything is so colourful! This shop has a wide selections of specialty candies, chocolates, sweets, fudges, toffees, rainbow lollipops, truffles, jellybeans, caramels, nougats, candied nuts, flavoured honey sips, bubblegums & gum balls, fruit chews, chocolate macaroons, maple cream cookies and maple syrup just to name a few. There’s definitely something for everyone with a sweet tooth. Everything is well organized and I love the cute ceiling train! Finally found what I was looking for… maple syrup dark chocolates!!

I asked if I could get two flavours of fudge in the 100g minimum, and was told yes. I even clarified that I didn’t want to go over 100g, but in the end they gave me 200g anyway. Once it was cut, they said it couldn’t be put back, so I was stuck with it. Also, the fudge didn’t taste fresh at all—it felt like it had been sitting there for ages. Definitely wouldn’t recommend.
Behrokh S — Google review
The Banff Sweet Shoppe is a wonderful addition to the strip. They stand out as a purveyor of sweets and decadence. I love the interior decor and how it appropriately fits the olden day sweet shop of movies. There is a huge selection of candies and chocolates not found in the typical big box and grocery stores. A lot of imported goods that you would not find elsewhere. Unfortunately, due to the worldly acquisition of these goods, prices are high. Yet, if you find a chocolate bar from home, I'm sure you will be happy to pay to enjoy it. Definitely drop by and be picky what you want to snack on.

Bear Street Tavern is a rustic and laid-back hangout located on Bear Street in Banff. It's known for serving thin-crust pizza and Canadian pub grub, along with a variety of craft beers on tap. The tavern offers a casual rooftop and street-level patio where visitors can enjoy their meals. Despite not having an extensive pizza menu, the quality of their pizzas is highly praised.
This place is really nice to have a lunch or dinner. I ordered Baked chicken wings and big bird pizza and I literally had best pizza of my entire life. It was so fresh and yummy that we ate 2 and packed 1 for dinner. I also loved their patio set up and they have those little heaters with fire on the table which kept us so warm on a chilly day. Me and my friends spent great time there. Our server was also really good and she had good recommendations for us sadly I don't remember her name now. But overall it was an amazing experience.

Great spot for pizzas and pints. We prefer sitting at the bar to better explore the ample bier offerings w the help of the friendly and knowledgeable bar keeps. The salad I had(see pic) had a delightfully light and zesty dressing, not overdone at all. The pepperoni they use is definitely a spicy blend which I prefer and cuts well w the salty cheesiness. The margherita pizza was nice but I really prefer more of the fresh sweet Italian basil w it to pair w the acidity and spice of the red sauce, but that’s just me. Glad we dropped in once again to enjoy the warm and lively atmosphere.

A very nice eatery in Banff, that has a great patio and as with a lot of restaurants in town, is also pet friendly. The staff was very accommodating and patient with our party of eight plus dog. The pizza and wings were great, though the Cubano was a bit too sauce heavy unfortunately, though still tasty. Overall an excellent experience.

Ended up coming twice during our trip to Banff because the pizza was so delicious and the vibes were perfect for after a long day of hiking. In our two trips we had the pepperoni pizza, elk pizza, and pineapple pizza all of which were fantastic. We also shared a French onion soup and the shrimp Bao; the shrimp Bao were very yummy but portions were a bit tiny for the price. The special beer was a boisenberry variant which had a lovely tang and acidity. Also tried the maple old fashioned which was very much on the sweeter side. Highly recommend!

We were able to eat at the bar with no reservation on a Friday night. Our bartender was super welcoming and offered great suggestions. We had two pizzas, but easily could have shared one. The unique chili oil and honey dipping sauce is amazing!! Great pizza choice if you are in Banff!

The restaurant is modern and beautifully designed, perfectly fitting Banff’s mountain theme. There are several seating areas across multiple floors, both indoors and outdoors. The atmosphere is inviting, relaxed, and full of local character. The service was very friendly and attentive, and the food was delicious, clearly made with quality ingredients. We ordered the elk pizza — creative and well-prepared. Personally, I might choose a different one next time, only because the elk flavor was subtle, more of a hearty protein addition than a distinct taste. Still, it was enjoyable and well-balanced. The French onion soup was outstanding — rich, flavorful, and just right for a cool day in Banff. The mozzarella and toasted bread were perfectly done. Overall, a great experience — wonderful service, good atmosphere, and food that reflects care and craftsmanship. “Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31) Keep doing what you do with excellence and kindness — it truly makes a difference.

Tied for the best meal I had on my two week holiday across Western Canada. And certainly the best lunch by far! We stopped in Banff on our way back to Calgary from Jasper to see the town one last time. We had quite a bit of time so we decided to have lunch and the place we picked wasn’t open until dinner time. The Bear Street Tavern was next-door. What a lucky surprise?! We sat in the courtyard outside and it was charming. The team waiting on us couldn’t be more pleasant or helpful. It’s not a huge menu, which we actually quite liked and I had the Tavern bowl, which was a super tasty kale based vegan salad. I had a chicken because I’m not a vegan, and this salad was incredibly good. The dressing with sublime, the taste and balance of flavour amazing. And it was huge, my husband and I could’ve shared it easily. My husband had the sub sandwich and it was so good really fresh wonderful Italian Chili peppers. I’m originally from New York and that sub sandwich looked really authentic. Did not have big expectations, and I loved this place . I would say it was more lunch than dinner but depends on what mood you’re in and how much food you had all day but you won’t go hungry here and they also do pizza .

Great spot for fresh beers, Ride or Dry was my favorite! The smash burger was goooood. The hot chicken sandwich could have had more seasoning / sauce. It was pretty dry. The servers were friendly, the vibe is great. Would recommend.

I’ve eaten here many times over 14years and usually love the food. But tonight we ordered takeout through an app, and my burger came with this awful rotten piece of lettuce! I don’t mean wilted from being in the box, but yellow & brown patches from it being days or weeks old! It was disgusting to find rotten food in my freshly ordered meal!!!

A little late to review but better late than never! On a weekend trip with my mom and sister I insisted we go to Banff ave brewing as it is a favourite of my husband and I. We previously had a lot of the fancier restaurants booked for dinners. We popped in at opening for lunch and we had such a fantastic meal. My mom ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich with fries and she said it was the best “burger” she has ever had and that the fries were absolutely perfect. I ordered a regular burger and have dietary restrictions, our server Jeremiah was so helpful and just overall a wonderful server. He was attentive, funny and knowledgeable. The nitro pina colada was killer. Thank you for a wonderful time as always.

This is a fun brewpub with an excellent selection of permanent and rotating beers on tap - the tasting selection of 6 beers is the way to go. It was fully packed out when we visited owing to the Melissa’s Road Race crowd but were still well served despite longer than usual waits for drinks and food. A good, convenient and causal pit stop for some drinks and grub on the main drag.

Stopped into Banff Ave Brewing and had the 12-oz Wild Warden (Raspberry Rhubarb Sour 6.2%) which was a really good beer that I would have again. This was a nice brewery with more draft options than the Three Bears Brewery nearby. Unfortunately the 2nd floor seating at the balcony lookong out onto the street had all seats taken, otherwise, that seemed like a really nice spot to enjoy a cold beer on a warm day.

We ate outside and was dog friendly. They have daily specials and we tried the fish and chips with poutine fries and the cauliflower app. Everything was fresh and crispy, super tasty. Tried some various beers they had on tap which were great. Def recommend if you are in town.

Cool place, good staff, accommodating of our baby, tasty beers and food. The reason this isn't a 5 star is everything was good, but I wasn't blown away by anything. Definitely worth a visit.

Surprise Corner Viewpoint is a popular spot in Banff that offers stunning views of the 1888 Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel and Sulphur Mountain. The name 'Surprise Corner' comes from the unexpected and breathtaking vistas that greet visitors as they round the corner. It's a budget-friendly option for travelers, as it's one of the many free things to do in Banff.
Good viewing point for the river and hotel but unfortunately the viewing platform was shut for maintenance when we came in late September 2025. There are still decent views from down the road. Parking is difficult but can free up quickly with people coming and going - please don’t park on blind corners!
John L — Google review
Getting here is ready but there are only 8 parking spots. We went by here several times and there are always about 20 cars trying to park on this blind corner, it's a mess and very dangerous so please tell the tourists to park legally and do not let them block traffic or stop on the road way. The view is only OK. You can see the Fairmont, the mountain and if you walk up the road you can see some of the falls. The road drops off here quickly so be careful walking, 1 rock that move could put you over the side with a 100 meter drop into the icy waters below. Unless you like that kind of adventure. There is no repelling or climbing here but great place to try if you can get parking. The view point is across the street. There are no seats and no wash rooms. You have to climb several steps and a short incline. Give this review a like 👍♥️. Let us know if you get a parking spot, see tourists getting in accidents for being morons. Our get some amazing photos

This was a great viewpoint. It’s a decent walk from downtown and you can pass by many views on the side. Once you get to the actual viewpoint, you get a good view of the hotel and of the river below. We visited in the winter and it was amazing! 🤩 Overall, very cool place!
Ayden — Google review
Named for its spectacular views of the surrounding mountains, Bow Falls and the historic Fairmont Banff Springs hotel from Buffalo Street , Surprise Corner is an excellent place for photos and also to start a hike on the local trail system. The impressive view makes it clear why the Fairmont Banff Springs was built in this exact location in the national park. There is a small parking lot located on the opposite side of the street from the viewing platform from which another hiking trail also leads up to the Hoodos Viewpoint – another great spot for even better views!
Florian M — Google review
This is an excellent place for photos and videos. There’s a small parking lot at the corner and trail access to the Hoodoo trail. Descend down to the river and take a moment to listen to the power of the water rushing down the nearby Bow Falls or following trail and walk to the Hoodoos Viewpoint.

Surprise Corner” truly lives up to its name — it’s one of those magical places that makes you stop, smile, and feel grateful to be there. From the moment I arrived, I was taken by the breathtaking view. It’s the kind of spot that feels both peaceful and powerful, with nature wrapping around you like a gentle embrace. Whether you’re visiting for photos, reflection, or a quiet moment to breathe, this corner captures the heart of what makes travel so special — discovery. The panoramic view of the surrounding landscape is simply unforgettable. You can see winding rivers, majestic mountains, and the charming architecture below. Every direction offers a picture-perfect scene, and the light changes beautifully throughout the day — early morning mist brings a calm, dreamy vibe, while sunset turns the whole place golden and alive. It’s a photographer’s dream and a soul-soothing escape for anyone who loves nature. What makes “Surprise Corner” extra special is the feeling it gives — that little spark of wonder you get when the world suddenly feels bigger and more beautiful than you expected. It’s quiet enough to feel personal, yet open enough to share with others without losing its magic. The area is clean, easy to access, and well-marked, with a few benches to sit and soak in the moment. If you’re visiting nearby attractions or just driving through, make sure to stop here — even for a few minutes. It’s one of those places that remind you how simple moments can become unforgettable memories. I left “Surprise Corner” with a full heart and a smile — truly a five-star experience that proves the best surprises often come when you least expect them.

Stunning view and beautiful at sunset! We randomly decided to stop by on our first night in Banff and are so glad we did! It was around 9:30 pm and there was hardly anyone around!
Rachel M — Google review
Surprise Corner Viewpoint is hands down one of the most spectacular scenic spots in Banff! The panoramic views from here are absolutely breathtaking, featuring the majestic Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel (often called the "Banff Castle") perched dramatically above the picturesque Bow River valley and ravine. The sight of this grand château-style hotel against the rugged Canadian Rockies backdrop is nothing short of magical. What makes this viewpoint even more remarkable is the layered scenery - you can see the Banff Gondola gracefully ascending Sulphur Mountain in the distance behind the castle, creating a perfect composition that captures multiple iconic Banff attractions in one frame. The contrast between the elegant architecture of the historic hotel and the raw natural beauty of the surrounding wilderness is truly captivating. This spot is ideal for photography enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. Whether you're here for sunrise, sunset, or any time of day, the views are consistently spectacular. It's easily accessible and offers ample space for taking photos and simply soaking in the scenery. While the views are incredible, please exercise extreme caution if you're tempted to venture closer to the ravine for a different angle. The area near the edge has loose gravel that can be very slippery, and there's a significant drop-off that could be extremely dangerous. Several visitors have had close calls here, so it's best to enjoy the amazing views from the designated safe viewing areas. Despite the need for caution, this viewpoint is an absolute must-see when visiting Banff. The memories and photos you'll take from here will last a lifetime.

Horseback riding service
Tour operator
Banff Trail Riders - Stables, located in Banff National Park, offers a variety of western clothing and horseback riding adventures. You can explore the mountains by horseback and learn about Banff's western roots. The Sundance Lodge provides a cozy cabin with comfortable rooms, perfect for skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, and horseback riding. Visitors praise the friendly horses and knowledgeable staff who provide enjoyable sleigh rides with hot chocolate or apple cider at the end.
I joined the 1-hour horseback riding tour and had a great experience! Check-in was smooth — they weighed us to make sure the horses wouldn’t be overloaded, and there was free storage for bags and bottles. Before heading out, we got a quick and clear tutorial on how to control the horse using the reins and our legs. The trail goes from the ranch into the forest, with beautiful mountain views and a river running alongside. The horses were calm and well-trained. Mine loved to stop and snack on grass, but the guide was quick to help when needed. The ride was fairly smooth, though there were a few bumpy spots — beginners should stick to the 1-hour option unless you’re confident. Overall, a peaceful and memorable way to enjoy Banff’s nature. Highly recommend!

Well run outfit. Horses were well trained, and responsive. Guides were informative and entertaining. We did the BBQ dinner - our vegetarian even enjoyed her ‘special’ food. 🤭 Highly recommend even if you are not a Cowboy. Felt very safe with them. Photo of their bathroom facilities because I was impressed; they were NOT gross. 😂
Kayli — Google review
Absolutely loved our tour which was 3h in total and included dinner. Also helped that we had beautiful weather... The horses were very well trained (we were absolute beginners) and we felt safe and comfortable throughout. The way to dinner was alongside the river and path, the way back was more adventurous with going uphill and downhill in the forest - very serene! Dinner was great (steak or vegetarian option plus sides) and it was a great setting with lots of space to sit as well as lasso and horseshoe throwing. Would thoroughly recommend and we miss our horses already!

We stopped in today to see the beautiful horses! And because I'm an amateur photographer, I love to take pictures and share them with others! Enjoy! (There was a group of people riding the horses on their way back to the ranch that I videoed today. And if there's a way for me to share one particular video to a friendly woman who waved at me when I was videotaping them, pls let me know!) Thanks! 🥰🐴🐎

The young ladies that escorted our group were great! It was the leader's first guide on her own and you wouldn't have known it! They were experienced and knowledge! I would definitely do it again!
Sean F — Google review
We went for the 1-hr Bow River ride since it was the first trail run for one of our companions. The weather was great and check in was smooth. After fitting the helmet and weighing in we were assigned our horses which are all very beautiful! There were 8 of us in the group and led by Rachel in the front and flanked by a cowboy at the back. Rachel was enthusiastic and pointed out instructions clearly. Horse-riding is inherently an all weather outdoor sports and horses like people have moods and personalities. So we were prepared! The trail runs alongside the Bow River and this ride does not cross the River. It is a natural trail that meanders through some forests, bridges and meadows with muddy areas. Some forested areas have a few lower lying branches so need to push them aside or duck your head. It gives nice views of the Cascade, Rundle and the Tunnel mountains. We even saw a coyote on our way back. Some tips for prospective riders: - this trail may be too straightforward for those who have done trail riding a few times and expect more eg river crossing. - you should be able to understand instructions in English. This is because you should be able to perform simple maneuvers when instructed by the staff when the horse is distracted and not follow the group, like steer the rein left / right/ halt, gently kick the horses belly with your heels if the horse stops or does not follow the horse in front as a single file. Getting on or off the horse is quite ok as they provide platforms. - this trail is suitable for beginners. But for younger kids, I saw some very young looking child riders being led by an adult on horseback, not sure if that’s part of the service or not. A older child in our group had a horse which was feeling playful and distractible, enjoyed munching grass and sometimes not following the group. Also the horse might not know that over hanging tree branches might brush up against the rider - for instance a girl (maybe 7 or 8) in front of us had her head and neck pushed back against a tree branch…..luckily the horse was in slow motion and she did not panic or cry and was able to soldier on and steered the horse away from the trees. The cowboy did make an effort several times to guide the horse. The little girl deserves a big applause for keeping her cool and getting herself out of the woods literally !! - yes the trail is natural and so when the hooves trudges over muddy areas your shoes and pants will get a little bit dirty, that’s horse riding ! Wear something easy to wash. - the staff helped ensuring the saddle and stirrups are fastened and your feet are comfortable. - when taking photos with your phone, tie your phone around your neck with a lanyard ! - do some simple stretching before you ride helps to reduce strains and aches afterwards - plenty of parking at the stables. Washrooms available. No cafe - on a rainy day, I think a poncho might be a good idea Overall we had a great time and highly recommend this !

Banff Trail Rides is a huge horse farm outside the city of Banff. There is a huge parking lot, also easely accessible with RV'S. Banff Trail Rides is one of the biggest horse ranches of Canada. They have 250 horses and 50 more animals on the farm (mules,....) We did a nice 2 hours ride along Bow River in a group of 12 people (+ 2 tourguides). It is a ride suitable also for beginners, so don't expect trotting or galopping, the horses are just walking. Our guide Abby (riding in the front) explained a lot abount the region, the river, wildlife and Sulphur Mountain. Unfortunately, almost the entire trail was very muddy and so it was rather loud when the horses stamped through it. One could barely hear anything if not riding directly behind the guide. I recommend a headset for guide a guest riders, so the guide wouldn't need to yell along the ride and guests could benefit much more from the tour. About the horses... Horses were well nourished and very well behaved. The only thing I didn't like was seeing ä the horses stand in paddocks with deep mud about 7 inch / 18 cm deep). Standiging in deep mud for hours and then riding through deep mud could cause serious infections for horse's fetlock like malanders (grapes). Horse barns usually use rubber drainage mats on their paddocks to keep the horses dry and clean, and I would recommend using these to avoid infections and/or sicknesses. All in all it was a great experience and I hope the paddocks will be maintained better in the future.

Nestled in the heart of Banff, the Banff Pedestrian Bridge is a delightful spot that perfectly captures the essence of this stunning mountain town. While the bridge itself may not be overly ornate, it serves as an ideal vantage point against the breathtaking backdrop of Cascade Mountain. Spanning gracefully over the serene Bow River, this pedestrian-friendly structure invites visitors to immerse themselves in nature's beauty. The surrounding scenery transforms with each season, offering unique perspectives year-round.
Amazing place to walk around and a great view. It is one of the best places for photographers. Also, it's a good place for fishing too....

The Banff Pedestrian Bridge is a lovely spot to pause and soak in the scenery. Stretching over the Bow River, it gives you a perfect view of the turquoise water framed by mountains on all sides. It’s an easy walk from downtown Banff and connects to trails along the river, so it’s great whether you’re just strolling or heading out for a longer walk or bike ride. The bridge itself is wide and well-built, with lots of space for photos, and it’s especially beautiful at sunrise or sunset when the light hits the mountains. It’s not a big attraction like the gondola or Lake Louise, but it’s one of those little gems that adds charm to Banff.

Absolutely Iconic Mountain Views! Crossing the pedestrian bridge over the Bow River in Banff is a highlight of any visit. This is more than just a crossing; it’s an experience and a prime photography location. The beautiful timber arch construction is a work of art that seamlessly blends into the natural surroundings, making it feel perfectly at home in the national park. As you walk, you are treated to stunning, uninterrupted panoramic views of the river's turquoise water, the majestic Cascade Mountain, and the towering Rundle peaks. A must-do for photographers and anyone looking for a moment of peace in the heart of Banff!

Sally Borden Fitness and Recreation Center in Banff, Alberta offers a 25-meter swimming pool with stunning views of Sulphur Mountain. The glass-covered pool area includes a Jacuzzi and a warm wading pool for kids. Visitors can also enjoy the outdoor sun deck on warm days. The facility provides day passes for access to the pool and other amenities. Additionally, it features a well-equipped cardio facility with various equipment, kettlebells, and dumbbells.
So I came here for a visit because I needed to do my LISS training. In terms of gym, this is an alright gym. But if you are into other things such as climbing and swimming, this is a good one. They have good and clean changing room, shower, and spa. Pretty good for a one time visit.
Lily R — Google review
My review is based solely on the climbing gym. What a great climbing area. The room is small, but I was impressed by how much variety of routes they managed to create in the space they had. There was a good selection of lead, top-rope, auto-belay and boulder routes within the room, with good setting. They use their own grading scale but it is easy to follow. What makes this place 5* though is Rennie - she is fantastic! She way very accommodating with beginners showing them around. I am an experienced climber myself but she would still go out of her way to offer advice/beta if stuck, and even belay people who didn't have a partner when possible. If I am back in Banff I will definitely be back.

Staying at the Banff center and my sister and I decided to check out the hot tub and sauna. The hot tub jets were a bit weak but still enjoyable. The sauna was nice although it had an odd smell? Was a bit weird but the sauna was still nice. The locker room was genuinely the nicest one I've ever seen in my whole life, the lockers are very pretty and they had a vanity area and good hairdryers. They had these swimsuit dryers too and I've never seen those before! Was super nice.

I don't quite understand why they would requisition the gym for the g7 event and impact members' healthy lifestyles but here we are. Expect to be inconvenienced by the administration if you sign up here. Not a bad facility otherwise. Keep in mind there are lots of noisy children around.
Karl S — Google review
This is an awesome recreation center with great facilities and an excellent team of staff. The inclusion of facilities such as the gym, climbing wall, sauna and pool in the pass for the low price of $21 was super worth it!!! I have never been this tired from a workout, going from the weights in the gym straight to the climbing wall, then finally to doing laps in the pristine 25-meter pool. The cleanliness of the pool especially stood out and I felt very safe swimming in there especially after seeing how hard the staff work to keep the pool clean. This is by far the most comprehensive and complete recreation center I have been to. Also, a special shout out to the staff Liam and Jacob who did a superb job in helping me out at the front desk, and did a great job of making me feel comfortable and welcome. They went above and beyond to assist me, providing me with a comprehensive tour of the facility and teaching me how to use the wide variety of gym equipment. Their dedication to the craft and their beaming smiles turned my day (which at this point was going south after slipping on a patch of ice) completely upside down and made my day!!! I highly recommend this recreation center for anyone who wants a great place to work out and have fun. <3<3

A great cafe to visit while in Banff! I got espresso, roasted root veg, berry brioche and a banana croissant. Everything was flavorful and delicious. The toasted bread was crisp and fluffy. The berry brioche had just come out so it was warm and soft. Highly recommend!
Jeremy C — Google review
The café was always busy, with a queue of customers waiting to get in. There were seats available inside, on the patio, and in shady spots in the alley. We arrived too late to order a breakfast sandwich, but the smoked sandwich we chose as a substitute was excellent. The homemade sourdough bread was fresh and crispy after being heated, and the meat was juicy and flavorful! For dessert, we ordered the almond croissant. It was flaky and fresh, with a delightful crispy almond topping. Lovely place with friendly staff, highly recommend!
Cami L — Google review
If there‘s a queue, the coffee must be good! This rule of thumb proved to be true once again. The coffee is great and the pastries look amazing. The Almond croissant was out of this world! If you get here and there is no seating available just get in the queue, the turnaround on the tables is quite quick

I saw a lot online about this cafe and it even exceeded my expectations! Perhaps slightly overpriced, but a perfect place for a brunch/light lunch. Excellent coffee. Queue was always long but moved relatively quickly. The GF brownie was amazing! I did not try a pastry but they looked amazing.

Wild Flour is a lovely spot in Banff if you’re craving fresh baked goods and a cozy café vibe. The pastries and breads are excellent – the croissants were buttery and flaky, and the sourdough is worth taking home. Coffee and lattes were good, though not always the most consistent, and prices are on the higher side (pretty normal for Banff). The café does get busy during peak times, so expect a bit of a line, but the staff are generally friendly and efficient. Great place to relax with a coffee or grab something to fuel up before exploring the mountains.
Vishaka P — Google review
We tried the mocha, cinnamon bun, and almond croissant, everything was great, but the almond croissant was truly on another level. The service was good, and the atmosphere was cozy. Overall, a nice place to stop by for coffee and pastries in Banff.

The service is great, the coffee is delicious, the prices are reasonable, and the food is fresh! I only ordered an Americano and chocolate croissant but I saw how delectable all their other pastries and sandwiches looked. If there was anything I could say that would make this place perfect - is I wish there was just a wee bit more chocolate in the chocolate croissant. This is a busy bakery/cafe! Be prepared for a lineup during busy times and possibly needing to grab a seat outside (which is also beautiful).

Evelyn's Coffee Bar is a charming traditional coffee shop that has been a part of the Banff community since 1992. Located on Banff Avenue, it offers a cozy atmosphere and serves an array of espresso drinks, sandwiches, and baked goods. Situated amidst gift shops and jewelers, it provides a convenient stop for grabbing coffee while exploring the area. Additionally, its proximity to Park Distillery makes it an ideal spot to visit after a distillery tour.
An absolute hidden gem in the heart of Banff town centre for great coffee and pastries! My daughter’s name is Evelyn, so this place made her feel really special. The coffee is rich, smooth, and expertly brewed, making it a perfect stop for caffeine lovers. Their pastries are fresh and delicious, pairing beautifully with a latte or cappuccino. The cozy, inviting atmosphere and friendly staff make it an ideal spot to relax, recharge, or grab a quick bite before exploring Banff. Whether you’re after a morning pick-me-up or an afternoon treat, Evelyn’s Coffee Bar is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates quality coffee in a charming setting.

Gowda S — Google review
It’s a vibe that all can get down with. Part hipster, part modern, Evelyn coffee bar has outstanding coffee. So much so we came back twice. We got two medium vanilla lattes and of course they did the little design in it! Be prepared to pay for the atmosphere and outstanding coffee. Honestly the best part about this place was the croissants. We ordered two. She got the chocolate one (more like a desert but it had our taste buds poppin) the chocolate was creamy and smooth without it even being heated up. It was like a paste of chocolate smothered inside a crispy crust that was baked to perfection. Just when you think it can’t get any better, if you want to go nuts like me, order the almond croissant. Perfect ratio of thinly sliced almonds across the top, with that gooey paste within. There was not too much, just enough to have you wanting more. The couches are comfy and casual (love the brown leather vibe) but you can also step outside for the view of my favorite mountain in Banff. As always for the bathrooms: I can’t hold it against them because their bathrooms are through the rear exit in the communal mall. I had to go out and go downstairs so they’re quite a bit away away so don’t drink too much coffee and fear of tingling your pants on the journey. For all my loyal review followers I did make that journey, but the cage was locked at seven in the morning. However, they did have a sign pointing me to a secondary location, but I figured that won’t always be the case so we’re leaving the bathroom review out this time.

I’ve been living in Banff for a year and a half, and Evelyn’s Coffee Bar has become one of my regular spots. The coffee is always great, and the service is top-notch. Shubham, in particular, is fantastic—he consistently anticipates what I need and makes every visit a pleasant one. Highly recommend this place!

We tried the salmon bagel and the bread was stale as a rock, the salmon itself was ok but the bread was not toasted or warm, just cold and dry like prison food, the chicken panini was dry like it was microwaved from the freezer, coffee was mid, the iced matcha latte had huge ice cube chunks, the matcha itself was flavorless. One blonde worker has a staring problem, we are just finding our spot and sitting and shes js staring us down, the only good food was the blackberry cheesecake but the ratio was off, like biting a cube of sugar cheese. Only ate the food cuz it was so overpriced.

The coffee was good - I got a cafe mocha with a French vanilla shot - tasted like Kawartha Icecream moose tracks melted, which was really good. Staff seemed to be arguing when we got there and we had to wait like 10 minutes before one of them took our order - that was kind of a letdown. But once I got the coffee, it was all good.

Had a great time at the gallery. The glacier exhibit of photographs is stunning. The founders' gallery downstairs is a quaint spot to look at paintings. The Banff history exhibits are well done and informative. Book and art shop has a plentiful selection. Good bathrooms. Will have to return for the tour of the site's heritage buildings.

Small, interesting museum in Banff featuring the art of the indigenous people. It also has a heritage section that captures the history related to the local area and its National parks. Entry fee for adults is $15 and the museum can be covered in half an hour.
Ramdas P — Google review
Not sure why people are saying the museum is too small..... if you actually stop and read all the information you can spend at least 2h there! Most people I saw just walk around not reading a single info panel. Absolutely loved it. Learnt so much about the Rockies history! Definitely recommended if you're in the area.

The indigenous art exhibit was amazing, and the tour of the exhibit was led by an enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide. Also enjoyed the historic houses tour. Wonderful gift shop

Ideal for families or anyone to visit..it was free to enter when I went..staff very good and helpful and polite..2 floors of all the stuffed animals...information on all the displays..no lift to second floor so if you have mobility problems and struggle with stairs it could be a problem..I only did the downstairs because I had a walker with me and couldn't get upstairs..but I enjoyed the level I saw...it can get busy at certain times of the day..definitely worth a visit...

A wonderful gallery museum worth the visit when in Banff.

If I could give zero stars, I would. Five years ago, when my in-laws were members, the Whyte Museum was vibrant and engaging. The Heritage Gallery was full of rich history and information. Today, it’s a completely different—and deeply disappointing—experience. The Heritage Gallery is now empty, the atmosphere feels neglected, and shockingly, there wasn’t a single piece of art connected to the founders. For a place that carries their name, this feels misleading at best. What once felt like a cultural gem now feels like a hollow shell. I left feeling scammed rather than inspired.

Nature & Parks
Nestled in the heart of Banff, the Cascade of Time Garden offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle. Since its establishment in 1930, this four-acre terraced park has captivated visitors with its meticulously landscaped pathways, water features, and vibrant flora. Just a short walk from downtown Banff, it provides a perfect vantage point for admiring the surrounding mountains and blooming flowers during the warmer months.
A really lovely place to spend time with family or just relax and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. The gardens are full of beautiful trees and flowers, making it a perfect spot to unwind. The best part is that you don’t need a ticket, it’s free to visit. While you can’t go inside the building, the outdoor areas are more than enough to enjoy. It’s a large, beautiful garden and also a great place to take photos. I definitely recommend this spot to everyone.

Everything about the gardens was so well done.. the stone work, the entire layout, the flower choices, etc. It was bigger than I was expecting and had a lot of places to sit and enjoy the garden. So many little ponds and waterfalls thoughout + the gorgeous views of the mountains beyond.

I recently visited this place and found it to be a wonderful spot for relaxation and enjoying nature. The gardens are beautifully maintained, full of greenery and colorful flowers, with small artificial lakes and charming water fountains that create a peaceful atmosphere. It’s the kind of location where you can easily spend a few hours just walking around, sitting, and enjoying the surroundings. There are plenty of gazebos and seating areas throughout, making it comfortable for visitors to take breaks, have small picnics, or simply sit and take in the view. It’s also an excellent place for group photos or memorable snapshots—almost every corner offers a scenic backdrop with flowers, water, and open spaces. The overall vibe of the garden is very positive, a mix of calmness and liveliness that suits all ages. While entry into the main building wasn’t possible during my visit, the outdoor gardens themselves were more than enough to enjoy. Another great aspect is that there’s no fee or ticket required to access the gardens, which makes it even more appealing. Its location is also convenient, very close to downtown and surrounded by several other museums and attractions. That makes it easy to combine this spot with other sightseeing activities in the area.

Beautifully manicured gardens surround an impressive old stone building. Many tierred plantings with lovely colours and lots of stairs. A pretty place to stroll. We walked around the entire garden in less tgan 30 mins.

Casada Garden is such a beautiful and peaceful spot. The landscaping is gorgeous, with colorful flowers, lush greenery, and plenty of cozy seating areas to relax and take it all in. It’s well maintained and perfect for a quiet stroll or just enjoying nature. A hidden gem that feels calm and refreshing—highly recommend stopping by!

Absolutely breathtaking! Pics don’t do this garden justice! Definitely one of most beautiful gardens we have been to (and we have been to many many gardens including Buchart in Victoria). Free to enter, free parking too! And an easy walk to all the shops and cafes in Banff Village :)

Just another amazing little spot in the town of Banff. Very picturesque location with a nice walking area in the back, full of beautiful flowers, and nice water and lovely plants, and of course the gorgeous views in the background. The front area is also super nice and great for taking some nice pics. Definitely a good place to take a quick stop while in the area!!

Cafe
Whitebark Cafe, nestled in the scenic town of Banff, Alberta, Canada, is a charming mountain retreat that attracts both travelers and locals. This cozy cafe is celebrated for its meticulously prepared espresso drinks and an enticing array of freshly baked pastries. The welcoming ambiance and attentive staff ensure a memorable experience with every visit.
Cute cafe in the middle of Banff national park. It's furnished beautifully and equipped. They have an extensive menu as well as attentive staff. I had a matcha latte here and it was delicious, it was smooth and you can tell the ingredients were high quality! Lots of space both inside and outside the cafe to get some work done. I like how clean the cafe is and the natural beauty of Banff mountains surrounding the cafe itself. This is a wonderful pitstop location right before going into deeper adventure into Banff national park. If your living in the Banff area I do recommend taking a stroll down to this cafe spot.

Early-morning lifesaver! ☕️🍳 Whitebark Café was the perfect start to our day in Banff! Their drip coffee was absolutely delicious, and the frittata was fresh and flavorful—exactly what we needed. We really appreciated their early opening hours, which made it easy to grab a tasty breakfast before catching our early morning bus to Lake Louise.

Whitebark Café is a gem in Banff! I had the Americano misto and it was perfectly balanced—smooth, rich, and just what I needed to start the day. The pork and fennel rolls were a standout—flaky, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. Cozy atmosphere, great vibe, and quality all around. Definitely worth a stop if you’re in town and looking for a solid coffee and bite to eat.

This is one of the most popular cafe in Banff. It opens around 6am and near the high school transit hub. I tried their spinach-feta bite and vegan quinoa-mushroom roll. Both were really tasty.

I ordered a Couscous salad and a hot large latte. The coffee was literally cold, and the salad tasted bland (like no taste at all). It seemed like the salad had been made and kept in display since a long while. Didn’t appear fresh. Would not recommend considering the price they charge for their average food.

Candy store
The Fudgery is a candy store that is located in the Sundance Mall on Banff Avenue. They make delicious treats such as chocolates, truffles, and brittles.
The Fudgery in Banff is a must-visit if you have a sweet tooth! The selection of sweets is immense—fudge, maple treats, candy, and more. You can’t help but be drawn in by the amazing aroma wafting out the door. Everything we tried was rich, flavorful, and clearly made with care. It’s the kind of place that brings out your inner kid. Great spot to pick up a treat for yourself or a gift to take home. Don’t skip it if you’re strolling through Banff Ave!
Ram K — Google review
It was my first time visiting this store and overall, I’d say the experience was good, but with one big downside. I tried their chocolate and nut fudge, and it was honestly really tasty, rich, creamy, and definitely felt like it was made with good quality ingredients. I also went for the green apple dipped in caramel and chocolate, which I’ve had in other stores before, and this one was just as good. Nothing to complain about with the flavors themselves, because they were solid and enjoyable. The part that really disappointed me though was the fact that they don’t offer any samples. For every single flavor, you basically have to buy at least 100 grams just to try it. I get that it’s a business and they want people to buy, but when it’s your first time in the store and you don’t know what the different fudges taste like, it’s kind of a gamble. Honestly, if they had offered even small samples of a few flavors, I would have probably ended up buying three or four more just to try them out. So overall, the taste was really good and I was happy with what I bought, but the lack of samples makes the shopping experience weaker. I hope they change that in the future, because it would make a big difference.
Rouzbeh R — Google review
Stopped by this fudge and chocolate shop and was really impressed! They have a wide variety of flavors — from classic chocolate and maple to more creative options. Everything looked beautifully presented, and you can tell they take pride in what they make. The fudge was a bit sweeter than I expected, but still creamy and rich in texture. The chocolates were fresh and flavorful too. Service was friendly and helpful — the staff were patient while I tried to decide which ones to get. The place itself is cozy, clean, and has that warm, nostalgic candy-shop vibe. Overall, a great spot for anyone with a sweet tooth!
Culinistanbul — Google review
Stepping into The Fudgery in Banff was a real treat! They boast an impressive selection of sweets, from classic fudge (in what felt like endless flavors) to various chocolates and candies, making it tough to pick just a few. While it might be a bit on the pricey side, which is somewhat expected in a tourist town like Banff, the quality definitely shines through. The overall vibe in the shop was wonderfully positive, and there was a nice lady working there who was both friendly and helpful. It's a great spot to indulge your sweet tooth and soak in some good energy.
John J — Google review
Absolutely delicious!! Great place to stop by for a sweet treat. The truffles were amazing.
Mateo — Google review
If you are reading through the reviews don’t bother reading anything that gives the Fudgery anything other than 5⭐️ because they do not understand good chocolate treats, candy apples and fudge. Everything is hand made so mistakes can happen. The employees making the treats wear the proper coverings to make sure your treats are not contaminated. But things happen and they can’t happen very often or it would’ve happen to me by now. On average I go to the Fudgery once a month and buy several items each time for my wife, my daughter and myself. My wife loves the dark chocolate snails and dark chocolate peanut butter cups. The snails are large and sinfully delicious. My daughter always gets the chocolate bear on a stick, milk chocolate peanut butter cups and occasionally a chocolate covered caramel apple. I always get a couple of haystacks, a chocolate coconut cluster, and a piece or two of fudge (I’ve tried them all). Unfortunately we eat our treats and then think we should’ve taken pictures for a review. So instead of putting off doing a review until I take some pictures I’ll just do one and add pics later, maybe. For the sake of my fellow readers of reviews I’ll make the sacrifice and go there this week and buy some more treats to photograph even though I was just there on Saturday.
Sean S — Google review
Amazing amazing salespeople. I got there seconds after they started to close the doors but still were gracious enough to open for a final sale as I knew what items I wanted. Thank you ladies you made my night.

Bodies of Water
Two Jack Lake, nestled in Banff National Park, is a hidden gem often overshadowed by the more famous Lake Louise. Its tranquil emerald green waters and stunning mountain views create a serene atmosphere, perfect for various activities like kayaking, swimming, and stand-up paddleboarding. This picturesque spot also offers breathtaking reflections of Mount Rundle and is an ideal location for capturing starry nights and the Milky Way.
Two Jack Lake is a beautiful and peaceful spot near Banff, with stunning scenery and calm waters. Parking is available along the road, and I noticed picnic tables nearby, which makes it a nice place for a relaxed stop or picnic. Many people were out on the water canoeing and kayaking, bringing their own gear. It’s less crowded than some of the other lakes, and the natural beauty makes it well worth a visit.
Ivy R — Google review
On our drive home from Golden yesterday, we stopped at Two Jack Lake for a late lunch and it was the perfect decision. The views of Mount Rundle in the late afternoon light were absolutely breathtaking.

Perfect Place to watch sunrise and sunset with view of Mount Rundle and its reflection in the lake. Perfect for a picknick or a little stroll along the lakeshore. Also a great spot for kayaking and canoeing 😃
Jens G — Google review
Two Jack Lake is an absolute gem in Banff National Park! The lake is peaceful, with stunning turquoise water and a beautiful mountain backdrop. It’s perfect for a picnic, paddleboarding, or just relaxing by the shore. There’s a calm, quiet vibe here that makes it a great alternative to some of the busier spots in the park. We especially loved catching the sunrise — magical reflections on the water! Easy to access and truly breathtaking. Highly recommended for nature lovers!
Pratik R — Google review
Two Jack Lake is one of those places that feels straight out of a postcard. The water has that classic turquoise glow you find in Banff, but it’s usually much quieter than the bigger, more famous lakes like Louise or Moraine. It’s perfect if you want peaceful views without the crowds. The area is great for a picnic, an easy stroll along the shoreline, or even just sitting with a coffee and soaking in the mountain reflections. If you’re into photography, sunrise and sunset here are absolutely stunning. You’ll often see kayakers or paddleboarders gliding across the calm water, which adds to the beauty. There’s also a campground nearby, so it’s a good spot if you want to stay close to nature but not too far from Banff town. Facilities are simple but convenient. Overall, Two Jack Lake is a hidden gem—calm, scenic, and a perfect place to slow down and enjoy the Rockies.
Vishaka P — Google review
It is a serene, emerald-green lake just a short drive from Banff, offering stunning reflections of Mount Rundle. It's perfect for kayaking, paddleboarding, or enjoying a peaceful lakeside picnic away from the crowds. Arrive early in summer, as parking fills up quickly, but the quiet views are worth it.

Just so you know, the lake is "warm" by Albertan standards, which means you won't freeze in it. But the water feels cold. That said, it's still beautiful spot for photos, a picnic or to hang out.

Hoodoos Viewpoint offers a stunning vantage point of the Bow River Valley and Mount Rundle, with the added bonus of potentially spotting wildlife like elk crossing the river below. The Surprise Corner to Hoodoos Trail is an easy hike that leads to this iconic viewpoint, passing by the Banff Springs Hotel along the way. There are two scenic trails leading to the Hoodoos, which are unique rock formations offering breathtaking views of the surrounding area.
Hoodoos Trail offers a stunning hike with plenty to see along the way. There are at least three different scenic points worth visiting, and I highly recommend making time to explore them all. Each viewpoint provides a unique perspective, whether it's a closer look at the towering hoodoos or a breathtaking bird's-eye view of the lake in the valley below. The natural beauty of the surroundings makes this trail an unforgettable experience. That said, the trail can be a bit challenging, especially if youare hiking with children. The path has several inclines, and it’s not well suited for strollers, so be prepared if you're bringing young kids. There are a few benches and chairs scattered along the trail where you can stop to rest, which is a welcome relief during the steeper sections. We did not hike all the way to the base of the lake, but based on what we saw and the pace of the trail, it would likely take an hour or more to reach it. Even without going all the way down, the views from the upper points are more than worth the effort. Overall, this trail is a rewarding experience for nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts alike.
Yasser J — Google review
A beautiful and easy stop with amazing views. It can get busy with tour buses, but if you walk to the far end, you’ll find a great view of the hoodoos. For an even better view looking back up the valley, head about 300 metres along the road into a small wooded area. Plenty of benches make it a nice spot to sit, relax, and enjoy the scenery.
Judy H — Google review
Nice easy walk. Easy 5 to 10min for the first few viewpoints with the option of going farther and doing a loop. Bonus fun if you leave the trail and go closer to river but be very careful. Heres some photos for those who can't get closer to the hoodoos.
Dustin M — Google review
Nice small hoodoo area. It's about 20 minute walk down to them from the viewpoint. Went at dusk.. gotta party with deers and coyotes. Good fun. No wheelchair access to hoodoos but there is at viewpoint.

Went for a early morning hike and met some friends on the trail! What an awesome experience. Hike, coffee, deer, views ❤️ a bear was active in the area but we ran into deer instead! Great start to the day!

Easy walk. Some parts of the trail are narrow, making it difficult for two people to pass each other. Elderly people were seen to walk the route fine. There are some areas where tripping hazards exist, so be mindful where you walk.

Excellent views! These are such interesting geological features created over thousands of years from wind, rain and snow erosion. It's a short drive from Banff.....only minutes.
Dan T — Google review
A quick stop on our tour, the landscape was beautiful the Bow River was visible below. There were 2 red Adirondack chairs for photos. The path to the view point was paved and the ascent relatively easy for those in shape. The hoodoos were hidden behind the first sign that described them. I found them disappointing compared to Bryce NP hoodoos. But they are a different formation compared to the surrounding mtns and worth seeing for those not familiar with hoodoos.

An Outstanding Guided Hike with Spencer This guided hike was a highlight of our trip to Banff. The scenery around Moraine Lake was absolutely breathtaking, but what made the experience truly special was our guide, Spencer. He was polite, caring, considerate, and patient—always making sure everyone in the group felt comfortable and included. His deep knowledge of the Canadian Rockies’ geology, flora, and fauna brought the landscape to life, and his enthusiasm (even for the small details, like the fascinating wood frogs!) made the hike both educational and fun. Spencer set a perfect pace for the group, taking time to stop, rest, and explain the sights along the way. I felt well cared for the entire time, and the thoughtful balance of activity and learning made the day unforgettable. This tour is very well organized with transport, lunch, and hiking poles included, but the real difference is in the guiding. Spencer turned a beautiful hike into an exceptional experience. Highly recommend!

Toured with Discover Banff twice this week. First was to Lake Louise and Moraine Lake. The second was the Banff City and Wildlife tour. Both were excellent and a good way to see a lot if your time is short. The driver/tour guide (Henry for the first tour and Sam for the second), were both safe and careful chauffeurs as well as being knowledgeable guides. Both offered insight to all that we saw. Climb the rock pile at Moraine Lake and hike along the beach at Lake Minnewanka. The overlooks viewing the historic Banff Springs Hotel and the Hoodoos were terrific. As was the stop viewing Castle Mountain and Mount Temple. These tours were well worth the ticket. The vans were spacious and comfortable and not too big. The groups were about 15 people each tour. I'd tour with them again on my next visit to Banff.

We did the Lake Louise and Moraine Lake tour. During the ride our driver told us a lot of things about Banff and both lakes. At the lakes themselves we had plenty of time to walk around by ourselves. Both lakes are absolutely stunning! As a bonus on the way back we got some Maple Leaf cookies. It's a very convenient way of visiting both lakes, as parking space is very much limited at Lake Louise, and Moraine Lake was not even accessible is you're not part of a tour (at least not when we were there).

We very much enjoyed our tour with Neil whilst here in Banff. He was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable about Banff and its history. Neil was able to change our tour at the last minute due to weather changes closing Lake Moraine and kept us all excited about the new lake location. We did multiple tours whilst in Banff and Neil was by FAR the best guide we had!

My wife and I were visiting Banff from the UK as part of our honeymoon and had two tours booked with Discover Banff in the same day; a wildlife tour, and a tour of Lake Louise and Moraine Lake. Both tours were completed by Henry, who was fantastic throughout. I love hearing anyone talk passionately about anything, and Henry had so much information about the history of Banff, the history of different locations that we visited during the tours and facts about wildlife, all seamlessly delivered with humour and charm throughout. We didn’t see a great deal during the wildlife tour, but that’s just the luck of the draw. I spotted a bull Elk in the distance, from the top of a hill, and he was down by a creek on his own. I was able to get a picture so other people on the tour could see. In the afternoon, the visit to Lake Louise and Moraine Lake was brilliant. Beautiful water and landscape, and plenty of opportunities to explore and take pictures. We learned why the water was so blue, and found this to be a common subject during other tours we went on and were able to impress other guides. Maple cookies and water were provided on both of the tours. The cookies were fantastic and we ended up buying boxes to bring home with us. Would definitely recommend this company for tours in and around Banff. P.s. to Henry: later on our trip, not only did we see a black bear, but we also saw two Moose!!

Thoroughly enjoyed the Consolation Lakes and Moraine Lake tour with Spencer today. He is a masterful storyteller who shared his passion for and vast knowledge of the landscape, animal life and history of Banff and surrounding area. He was able to tailor the hike so that we were all successful despite the varying ages of the tour group. His friendly demeanour and outgoing personality helped to make the day a very memorable one. I am looking forward to 4 more hikes with Discover Banff Tours and highly recommend them.

Excellent tour. Great overview of a number of key locations around the Banff area and our tour guide, Ray, was really informative. He knew the locations most likely to find wildlife and we saw 2 large herds of elk and a lonely long horn sheep. Ray also had a box of show and tell that really topped off the information. Highly recommended.

Eureka Banff Escape Room Adventures offers an exciting and challenging experience for visitors to Banff. Participants are locked in a room with a specific objective that must be solved before they can leave. The escape rooms provide a variety of puzzles and challenges, making it an engaging activity for enthusiasts. Despite the difficulty level, the experience is reasonably priced and highly recommended for those looking for an immersive adventure in Banff.
A whole lot of fun! My friends and I decided to try the Warden's Cabin escape room at the last minute, and were pleasantly surprised that the staff were able to accommodate us on such short notice. The puzzles got harder and more complicated as the game progressed, which we really enjoyed. Unlike some of the other reviews I've read, we didn't find the locks particularly sticky, and everything was in good order before we started. We were able to finish the room in the allotted time, although the staff member told us that this was uncommon. I think that's a good sign that the puzzles are difficult enough to force you to think your way through them. The staff was attentive and kind - we will definitely be going again to try Merv's Diner.

Awesome experience! I loved the retro feel of the Pop Shop, we really had to work together to figure out the bottle things. So much fun! And I got a sweet Iron Maiden shirt from the, unrelated, tee shirt shop when I was done! Everyone was super friendly, and for Banff it was well priced.
Whitney M — Google review
I've done 30 or so escape rooms and this is a good solid one. The story is well done, the theme and decor of the room is nice. Some of the clues are pretty cool. Overall it was good but not exceptional. I was a little disappointed that they charged full price for my 4 year old to be in the room with us. I suggest they pick an age below which children are free as do most escape rooms. The game master was very kind and did a great job.

So fun!! Multi-room experience with clever puzzles. Our hostess was very helpful and friendly. It took three of us (and several hints) to solve all the puzzles but we did it. Unlocked the final puzzle as our timer was going off…whew! We did Marv’s Diner and would recommend.

My mom suggested this outing last time we were in Banff. I found it hard to start with cause I didn’t understand but then I figured out that we were looking for solve “puzzles” and then had the best time ever. Would totally try another room again. Lots of fun.

Went as a work event but OMG—way more fun than expected! We did the Warden’s Cabin, marked as advanced with only a 20% success rate and a 1-hour time limit. The puzzles were tough and super creative—used all five senses and made for great team-building. The storyline was kinda meh, but if you're there for the challenge, it's a blast. Can’t believe 80% of people don’t solve it. Bonus: you get a discount with the ambassador pass!

We challenged Marv’s Diner and were about 30 seconds from making it out. Fun room with some neat puzzles. We got going on a tangent and didn’t get pulled back in until it was too late. The location was good and staff were polite. We’ll definitely go back.

30Bow River Trail

Bow River Trail in Banff offers a stunning and picturesque walk along the river, with well-marked pathways, local information, and benches for resting. The trail starts near the train station and extends about 1.5 km to Bow Falls, showcasing a variety of scenery from mirrorlike river sections to rapids and waterfalls. Along the way, visitors can enjoy nature art displays and may even encounter wildlife such as elk.
On the recommendation of the Banff Visitor's Centre, I spent a wonderful afternoon walking on both sides of the Bow River. The photos below are from my hike on the Bow River Trail, which is located on the northern side of the river closer to downtown Banff. A great trail in a town that is a true green paradise.
James C — Google review
Easy trail, minimal elevation. More like a walk in the park with crazy scenic views.
Joanne C — Google review
An absolute MUST while in Banff. Stunning walk along the river surrounded by mountains in every direction. Runs the entire length of town and will take you to the Bow Falls. Had cute art installations along the way. It is a paved trail and easily accessible.
Carmen B — Google review
The Bow River Trail is exactly what you'd want from a Banff experience without the challenging hikes. This well-maintained path offers stunning mountain vistas and peaceful river views that make it ideal for families, casual walkers, and anyone looking to ease into the Rockies. What I loved most was the versatility - we saw joggers, cyclists, and families with strollers all enjoying the same route. The art installations along the way add unexpected cultural touches that complement the natural scenery beautifully. The trail connects nicely to downtown Banff, making it convenient to grab coffee before or after. The relatively flat terrain makes it accessible for most fitness levels while still delivering that quintessential Canadian Rockies experience. Would definitely recommend as either a gentle introduction to the area or a relaxing way to spend an hour or two along one of Canada's most beautiful rivers.
Ramdas M — Google review
Technically short and easy, but there are a lot of stairs going up and down along the trail, some steep and narrow. Nice to do if you’re already hanging out in Banff town.
Caroline M — Google review
Lovely way to spend your day walking along the Bow River. Easy walk for most all people and families. You can walk to the end to see the Banff Springs Hotel tower over the river. Enjoy the artwork as well.

One of the most fabulous locations on earth! I highly recommended. It’s also practical for a very easy trail walk and accessible

Tunnel Mountain Trail in Banff National Park offers a variety of activities for visitors, from adventurous white water rafting to exploring historic sites. The trail caters to hikers of all physical abilities and provides stunning mountain views within easy reach.
EASY SCENIC TRAIL ⛰️ This is an easy hike with kids and is roughly 45 minutes up and 45 minutes down (~ 1.5 hours). There are two red Adirondack chairs at the summit which is a nice lookout point below. While hiking we also saw a few people jogging up and down; so if you like to run… this trail is a doable for that with some elevation climb. Overall it’s a good hike with good views. Highly Recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Nice place to go for a hike. Has a good elevation gain. Recommend going early lots of people hike this trail.

This is a great hike for the family and friends. It's moderately difficult, but totally manageable with a good pace and rest. It's a free trail and offers spectacular views. I would recommend this trail to my friends and family.

The Parks Canada Operations Compound is a hub of activity for those looking to explore the stunning landscapes of Lake Louise and Moraine Lake. To access the lake parking lot, visitors must obtain a valid Parks Canada Pass, which can be purchased at pay stations upon arrival for $21 per vehicle each day. Unfortunately, free parking options are nonexistent in this area. During my recent visit, I had an enlightening interaction with Ms. Natalie from Parks Canada staff when I needed assistance finding the trail to Lake Louise.
On 6/3/24, I inquired with Parks Canada Staff Ms. Natalie where is the trail to Lake Louise because my sister can’t ride in the shuttle bus due to motion sickness. She immediately asked, “what if we put her on the front seat?” She checked my bus reservation and arranged with Mr. Mike, driver of the Diversified bus (# 2528), to give us the front seats. Ms. Natalie was so understanding and helpful. If not for her, my sister would not have seen Lake Louise and Moraine Lake. Ms. Natalie also told me that for the ride to Moraine Lake then back to the shuttle bus’ base, we should speak to Parks Canada staff. Mr. Mike added “or to the driver”. We did. We also thank Mr. Kevin of Parks Canada and Diversified’s drivers Mr. Roma and Ms. WJ (# 2543). This world is nice when those we cross paths with are kind people🕊️👼🏼❣️

What is with this growing police state? You have a park pass and you turn up at Mt Norquay and face a parks canada blockade with simply faced youth inspect your park pass before allowing you entry into parking lot. That's not acceptable. Get your lazy butts out of the chair and walk around the lot and tag those without passes as was done before.

Euthanizing a bear for being in a neighborhood that is in the middle of the wilderness is a joke. Saying it's "best for the welfare of the animal" is a joke. The animal is dead, how is that best for the animal? You're all sick, I hope karma comes back to the people who made this decision with a vengeance.

Can't find a proper place to compliment one of your employees, so this is hopefully be seen by management. We stayed at Tunnel Mountain campers Village II this week. Wade at the front entrance kiosk was very understanding and helpful when we had issues with our RV, to get out by checkout time. Wade assisted us with helpful information and made allowances for our issue. Just one of the great people working in Banff - you made a difference.

Playground
Central Park Playground is a charming natural play area nestled in the picturesque Central Park at the southwestern end of Banff town. The playground seamlessly blends into its stunning surroundings, featuring slides, climbing walls, fallen trees, and tree stumps for kids to explore. Additionally, there's a faux-mountain structure that children can climb or run underneath. Adjacent to the Bow River, this quaint wooden playground offers ample picnic benches and clean indoor washrooms nearby.
Nice small playground in the central park. Kids can have fun with climbing rocks, slides etc. There are ample picnic benches and rest benches to sit while kids are having fun. There are washroom close by. No free parking though all paid parking. But there is a nice bridge, walking trail along river and pretty close to the downtown walkway. I wish they could invest in slighly bigger playground with more stuff for kids to have fun. Follow for more.

Cute little wooden playground and bouldering block. Clean indoor washrooms and easy parking. Just in front of the walking trails by the Bow River.

Nice little playground in the park, next to the Bow River. You'll find climbing apparatus and a couple slides. Heated bathrooms right behind the park area are cleaned regularly also. Plenty of picnic tables in the area to enjoy a quick break while strolling around Banff.

When exploring the stunning landscapes of Banff National Park, a visit to the Banff Visitor Centre is an essential stop. Nestled in the heart of Banff village on Banff Avenue, this hub is staffed by knowledgeable representatives from various local organizations, including Parks Canada and Friends of Banff. They are eager to assist you with valuable insights about regional hikes, parks, and other activities that will enhance your adventure.
I had a fantastic experience at the Banff Visitor Centre. The staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, going above and beyond to help me plan my trip. They provided detailed information on hiking trails, activities, and local wildlife, making sure I had all the resources I needed. The centre itself is a great one-stop shop, with clean facilities and a wide array of useful maps and brochures. Its central location in the town of Banff is incredibly convenient, making it the perfect starting point for any adventure in the national park. The service here is truly top-notch and a huge asset to anyone visiting the area.

A small center with limited items to purchase, but with a lot of helpful personnel to help with the great variety of things to do in and around the town of Banff. It's actually in a good location, just about in the center of the downtown area. They have free restrooms with many of the local busses with stops within a block or so. A very good place to start out with your visit.

Lots of information for local attractions, hikes and activities. There’s souvenirs you can purchase where. Maps and brochures available here and at local hotels and restaurants around Banff. Clean facilities with washrooms. If you bring your own bottle there’s a water refill station. Staff are friendly and helpful.

OK for a Canada parks location. If you are from Quebec don't go here, nobody really wants you freeloaders. For everybody else it's a good stop to get park info on hikes, and local park info. They have restrooms here if you need them. Not much else here but a gift shop if you need at short or decal. Give this review a like 👍♥️ if you like national parks or if your not from Quebec.

This review is for the town. One of the Prettiest town in the world. Lots of shops and restaurants. Vibe is good. Sometimes, the roads are packed, its best to park the car near cascade gardens or nearby parking area by avoiding banff avenue road. Lots of things to do. Must visit.

Unfortunately the workers seemed uninterested, bored. I understand they are inundated with hoards of confused international travelers. I also understand how challenging it must be to guide visitors willing to spend > $500-$1,000 per day for lodging: food and transportation vs someone on a budget looking for affordable campsites: transportation: food :hike bike opportunities. There was not one single chair to sit down in while trying to figure out the park system.. For a confused/ traveler visiting Canada for the first time it is confusing which services are offered by the park, which by the public transport ( roam bus) and which by predatory private tour companies at 10 times the price . No effort was made to distinguish this . I appreciate they are trying to save paper by only giving maps when asked. Better information was offered at the train station which offers internet and free parking . We did do reasearch before we left buying travel books from Amazon and getting travel maps from AAA , still: its confusing . After a week we figured it out. And will be back to visit this amazing park

Nature & Parks
Central Park is a picturesque green space located at a bend in the river, offering various amenities and attractions for visitors. The park features picnic tables, a playground with natural elements blending into the stunning scenery, and a gazebo used for events. Visitors can start their leisurely stroll near the boat docks and enjoy the riverside walk past Central Park, under Banff's main vehicle bridge, and towards the new award-winning pedestrian bridge.
Beautiful! We visited the market on the day and had a great time. Parking was free for the first 3 hrs. The market was small but had a nice selection of vendors. Some of the food we enjoyed: - Brazilian cheese bread - Grilled cheese sandwich - Bison jerky! You can’t really beat the view at the park either. Perfect for a picnic

Although I don’t deny they could do some updating… our 4 kids loved this waterpark. 3 year old had a small splash park. 7 year old loved the pool. 9 and 10 year olds LOVED the waterslides. The hotel is reasonably priced for what you get. Overall I would say 5-star!!

Hotel was filthy and falling apart. Had an upgraded chalet and previous guests DIRTY WOOL SOCKS were made up into my child's bed. If I could give zero stars I would. Also pictured, I wet and wiped down the bathroom counter. That's what came off on a white towel. I called the front desk, had our stay refund and reported the hotel to the health inspector with detailed photos of our unit.

Looks like cheap motel Before booking, call and ask about the hot tubs and water slides.

Just finished 2 days in the upgraded suite with kitchen. The hotel has a lot of great features water park, gym, and play zone. However the hotel was filthy!!!! Pool change rooms were horrific. Rooms badly need a renovation. Old crumbs and left over items in couch and room. Half the water park was closed. Exterior siding and overall landscaping is falling apart. Sad, the hotel has such potential for a family vacation spot. Won’t be going back.
